Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the Kyle Bailey Show, powered by Victory Chevy Charlotte,
where every month is Truck Month. Victory Chevy Charlotte, Your
Silverado Destination, our.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
Number three emanating live from the Chandler VAULTA Studios, the
Carolinas Personal Injury Lawyers. One call, that's all go to
Cvinjurylaw dot Com. That's Cvinjurylaw dot Com. Kbnsmoke getting set
to take your phone calls. It's a Panther Monday, a
victory Monday. They've won back to back and they've got
the oh to six jets on the horizon. They're three
and three, five hundred for the first time since twenty
(00:42):
twenty one and looking like a much more confident team,
getting the win yesterday with three offensive starters out. Still
no Turk Wharton out there on the field yesterday either,
but those big fellas in the middle, Derek Brown, Bobby
Brown and Ashawn Robinson, who is probably the unsung hero
of that defensive line, not just this year so far,
but even going back to last year. Those three guys
(01:06):
together were fantastic. Still not enough pass rush. If you're
looking for things to be I don't I don't want
to be concerned today. But if you're looking to point
out things that this team still doesn't do well or
flaws that concerned you, I think it's the lack of
pass rush that jumps out immediately. They can't sack the
quarterback they with any regularity at all. They didn't sack
(01:28):
Dak Prescott at all yesterday. Now part of that was
Dak getting the ball out early, and part of that
was their offensive line once again playing pretty well. The
Panthers did pressure him a bit, but they never sacked him.
Bryce only went down once yesterday, which was great to see,
but they didn't get Dak. So lack of pass rush,
but against the run, man they shut down the Cowboys
rushing attack, Javonte Williams finishing with twenty nine yards on
(01:53):
thirteen carries. Like this run defense has been lights out
the last couple of weeks. I mean ever since those
first two weeks, they have been so much better against
the run. And it really started in the second half
against Arizona. So you know, this is something that feels
sustainable that they'll be able to really give opposing rushing
attacks fits and force opposing quarterbacks to throw the football
(02:13):
a lot. And if that's the case, you're not facing
Dak in this offense every week. And it's still kind
of weird to say that, because Dak has a history
that's kind of checkered. He has in the past like
to turn the football over. But this appears to be
the best version of Dak Prescott that we've ever seen,
and he's protecting the football. So yesterday he had to
throw it for them to move the football because the
Panthers defense shut down the run and Dak was good
(02:36):
enough to put points on the board and you know,
keep them in it back and forth. The fair lead
changes all that. But I mean Carolina's defense. We asked
for them to go from dead last historically bad to
middle of a pack smoke, and through six weeks that's
what they've done so far. Absolutely, and especially to run defense,
like run defense looks like top ten level good right now.
The fact that you're not just shouting down average running
(02:57):
backs in the NFL, which I think every solid to
mediocre defense can do. You're doing this against a chan
who's probably a pro bowler. You're doing this against Davonte Williams,
who's had a career resurgence with Dallas after signing on
a cheap deal and kind of fizzling out in Denver.
Speaker 3 (03:14):
It's it just shows you it tore good. Derek Brown
well was his strength. Run defense, Bobby Brown run defense
has always been a strength. A John Robinson run defense
has been a stream. Now you have them all together
at the same time, and boom, they're good.
Speaker 4 (03:26):
Now.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
Pass rusher I think is just gonna be an issue
for out the remainder this year. I think part of
it is just the guys you have starting are not
elite pass rushers or guys that stand out. Either that
or you have a rookies that are trying to figure
themselves out in the NFL with Uman Miellen and Scoreton.
But I think you're gonna get a little bit more
of those moving forward, and sacks will eventually come somewhat
more weekend week out more. As you said, though, Dak
(03:50):
Dak is Unfortunately for him, he's now living in his
full Tony Romo saga where Tony Rome will put up
a lot of gaudy numbers. But then that was the
only chance they had to win because the defense wasn't
get the job done. Now Dak Prescott's living that, I
guess hell, you could call it that if you're a
Cowboys fan. Yeah, just go look at Tony Romo's numbers.
So twenty eleven, twenty thirteen, they're very similar to what
(04:11):
Dak's been doing this year. So yeah, I definitely think
you're gonna have more weeks that where you struggle against
the pass game. Hopefully, I'm knocking on wood this upcoming
week is not the case. But then after that you
got to go against Jordan Love and Josh Allen.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
Here's where things get a little easier for Sunday against
the Jets. And we can talk more about this throughout
the course of the week. But according to ESPN's Rich Samini,
and I'm going to try to get Rich on the
show this week, Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson will not
play against the Panthers on Sunday. Avoided a serious knee
injury during yesterday's lost to the Broncos, but Wilson is
expected to miss some time over the next few weeks.
(04:46):
And so it looks all but a guarantee that Garrett
Wilson will not play against the Panthers coming up on Sunday,
and that is certainly a help. Now their passing game
is a disaster right now.
Speaker 3 (04:56):
Historically talk about the Cowboys defense being historically bad, It's
passing game has been historically bad.
Speaker 5 (05:02):
Horrific, just horrific.
Speaker 2 (05:04):
Battlehawk Nation saying the pass rush is supposed to come
from the linebackers into three to four dot dot dot.
I mean you can call linebackers edge rusher outside linebackers
edge rushers. Yeah, you're right about that. I mean you
want pass rush up the middle. But yeah, the guys
on the outside, Pat Jones and Prince Leumann Miellen, who
I thought was better against the run yesterday, which was nice.
Let's say stop in particular that really he completely beat
(05:25):
brock k Hoffman, who completely whipped on him and was late
to his assignment. Yep Dominate says we need to address
the roughing the passer call against the Panthers that could
have cost us the game. The refs are ridiculous. It
did feel like they had to beat the Zebras two
yesterday at times. Now, some of those calls were legit.
The JC Horn defensive pass interference call earlier in the
game on was it Ferguson er schoonmaker? I forget what Ferguson? Yeah,
(05:46):
he yanked his arm and he didn't need to like.
At first, I was apoplectic like everybody else. I thought
it was a horrendous call, couldn't believe it. Fix was
in And then I saw the replay and I was like, damn,
he jerked his arm and the back line judge was
in the perfect spot to see it happen. So seeing
the replay, yes, now, as far as the pass roughing
the passer goes, you could tell Greg Olsen was trying
to be diplomatic. Shout out to Greg. We were all
(06:09):
in line at the men's room yesterday in the press
box and we all had to let Greg skip the
lines so we could get back to the broadcast move
for the second half.
Speaker 5 (06:15):
He was a legend. No, it was fine.
Speaker 2 (06:17):
We all loved it. So it was a great little
lot of time there. But you could tell Greg wanted
to be diplomatic while also letting it be known he
thought that was a soft ass call. That's me reading
between the lines, but listening to the broadcast, Greg thought
that was a soft ass call on Christian Rose Boom
and I agree.
Speaker 3 (06:31):
And well just that and I texted you to rest
owe us a couple and I'm talking about equity because
I'm still mad over the two thousand and five roughing,
the kicker call that should have never been called because
Julius Peppers tipped that ball. And I'm still mad about
the fumble that was never called a fumble because it
was blown dead when Jeremy Chin clearly recovered a fumble
in Dallas in twenty twenty one. Yeah, so I wanted
some sweat ecic equity, and they also met. I gotta
(06:51):
say thank god Hunter Renfro called that ball and forth
down because the play before that was PI.
Speaker 5 (06:56):
Oh my god, yes, yea, Like did they missed out?
Speaker 3 (06:59):
I'm like, yeah, gum, You're You're trying to help this
team so much and they're never they haven't repaid you
in thirty years, Like, why you keep on helping this team?
Speaker 5 (07:07):
It's unreal?
Speaker 2 (07:07):
No, I mean were There were three terrible calls yesterday
that I thought could could have screwed Carolina, and I
thought that roughing call was terrible.
Speaker 5 (07:14):
I mean just horrible. Seven oh four, five, seven ninety
six to ten. Hit us up. Let's go to the
phone lines.
Speaker 2 (07:20):
Corn Cob Craig gets the first call in the five
o'clock hour, and this one I know he wants to
talk Panthers, But Craig a y'all gotta lose Matt rule
to Penn State. What's going on out there?
Speaker 6 (07:31):
Well, hey, you know you asked where Franklin's going, I'd
say there's going to be a head to head trade
Franklin's Nebraska rule to Penn State.
Speaker 4 (07:41):
Oh god no, but hey, uh, I did listen.
Speaker 6 (07:44):
To better rules press conference. But hey, first and foremost
with me, I gotta say happy, happy victory Monday. And
you know I do have to eat a little and
happy to do it. I have to eat a little
bit of a krow because I called last week kind
of bagging on that empty set but and they didn't
run a ton of it yesterday. But if t Matt
can get a touchdown out of empty setum for it.
(08:06):
So and just to double up on what you said, boy,
that run defense has been absolutely beautiful. And you know,
at the end of the day, in the primal elements,
man run defense is about who eats, who's cabbage, and
who's gonna, you know, set the tone. So it's great
to see that that D line and that front seven
(08:27):
just absolutely dominate. But in terms of rule today he
obviously threw a lot of love at Penn State and Nebraska.
I guess what he didn't say is more important than
what he did say. You know, he didn't he didn't
say he was not interested and was gonna poll his
name out of the Penn State hat.
Speaker 5 (08:47):
No, he didn't shut it down at all.
Speaker 7 (08:50):
No.
Speaker 6 (08:50):
Now, he also said I thought it was interesting. He
said that, you know, Nebraska's kind of been on the
cutting edge of weight training, training, table acade support services.
He did say one thing he once had in Nebraska
is that he'd like them to have elite nil money.
Obviously thirty five to forty million dollars a year for players.
Speaker 5 (09:13):
I'm sure he would.
Speaker 6 (09:14):
Yeah. But hey, the other thing is I didn't realize it,
but that ad at Penn State was the ad at
Temple And apparently Rule and him their families share a
lake home somewhere out and oh.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
Yeah no, and he and Pat Craft are very close, Craig.
I appreciate the phone call, buddy. I mean, it'd be listen.
Matt Rule will never be popular around here. I think
he's a good college football coach. But to go from
James Franklin, who's one in fifteen against top five opponents
to Matt Rule. Who's what two and twenty two against
top ten opponents? I think is that right? I think
that's the right stat I mean, listen, nobody's great against
(09:50):
the best teams in the country record wise, and Kirby
Smart pointed that out recently. But it just it seems
like a lateral move. The poll here, of course, would
be Matt Rule played at Penn State as a walk
on linebacker. He's one of them. I just but if
it's not him, who's it going to be? I mean,
I don't think they're getting Kurt Signetti. He played quarterback
at pitt I don't think that's the job he's looking
to take. Plus, Kurt Signetti seems like the guy that realizes, hey,
(10:12):
these guys took me after so many years where so
many other people had opportunities. And Plus, if he continues
to coach there, guess what, he's gonna have a statue
built outside that stadium. He may already get one based
on what he's done so far. Rod is up next
on the phones. Rod, thank you for holding buddy. What's
on your mind?
Speaker 8 (10:28):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (10:28):
What's happening?
Speaker 1 (10:29):
Hey?
Speaker 9 (10:29):
Man?
Speaker 4 (10:29):
Listen?
Speaker 10 (10:30):
Thinks you know, I figure I'd do the same while
said Dereck Brown. You know, I called her a few
weeks ago and said I'd trade Dereck.
Speaker 4 (10:40):
I'd give him there from Michael Parsons, I don't know, man,
they's just so good. You know, he's just that good.
Speaker 2 (10:48):
Yeah, Buy, You're gonna have to walk that. You're gonna
have to walk that one all the way back. Because
Derek Brown is the answer to what does it look
like if a Grizzly Bear played defensive line?
Speaker 5 (10:56):
That guy is fantastic.
Speaker 11 (10:58):
Absolutely is cla Iff Reverend to death. And and if
you make the run game back like you stop it back, well,
you make a team one dimensional. Our past rush maybe
doesn't have to be as great as we want it
to be because of that guy. You know, he is
(11:19):
just dominant edge row in Gerro Edgiro enjoy your last then,
so I hope you enjoy it. We look great out.
Speaker 4 (11:29):
I really think Tanlis has the offensive coordinative thing going.
Bryce is looking good and I'm glad because our schedule
is pretty tough coming down the stretch, you know, with
who we gotta face, but I think we're up for it.
Also wanted to say everyone talks about our fans and
our fans not this not doing that. We show up
(11:51):
when our teams play well, we cheer when our teams
say well and you saw yesterday, but we're not the
only one in Francisco. The art was a detargy web.
They played three weeks to go into a red sea.
I was watching the Yankees and the Blue Jays last
week the other day, and I kept having a thinking
(12:13):
the damn game against Toronto because every time the Blue
Jays gotta hit, fans were hollering, Donadium, it's not you know,
that happened all over Oh yeah, you know what I mean.
So I just wanted to say that the money man, thank.
Speaker 2 (12:27):
You, Rod, appreciate the phone call. A lot of good
stuff there. Yeah, it does happen all over the place.
I misspoke a second ago. Just to clear that up,
I said Kurt Signette played for quarterback at Pitt.
Speaker 5 (12:36):
It was actually West Virginia. It's my bad big name.
I know.
Speaker 2 (12:41):
That's first of all those two a tied together in
my mind. Be I'm also still thinking about Pitt beating
Florida State over the weekend. But either way, just to
be clear about that, I misspoke a moment ago somebody
else said how many Derek Browns could take the gorilla
three five? I don't know, man, Derek Brown's a monster.
I wanted him out of college at Auburn, loved and
then love him now when healthy. You're not going to
(13:03):
convince me that guy's not a top three defensive tackle
in the NFL.
Speaker 7 (13:05):
He just is.
Speaker 5 (13:06):
He just he is. Period.
Speaker 3 (13:08):
He's the reason why I'm never going to fully take
three could drills death seriously for a detackle ever again?
Speaker 2 (13:13):
Ever again? Uh, Jersey Frank is up next, Jersey Frank.
What's going on, Bubba?
Speaker 6 (13:17):
How about them?
Speaker 8 (13:18):
Wait a minute, I don't want to say that. Let's yesterday, No,
yes today, yesterday. And I hope my brother's listening. I
hope my brother's listening to his little smug ass that
we beat there his cowboy so he could stick it
up his whatever it said. The whole nother story. But
you know, besides boring you with the rest of the minutia,
that you already know, that second touchdown pass to Tetero
(13:39):
was ridiculous, Like he I watched it like five times.
I'm like, how do he move his body?
Speaker 6 (13:45):
Like?
Speaker 8 (13:46):
That reminded me of something that Mahomy would do like
that was that was a great throw. And you know,
I've been the first, one of the first on this
radio show to say how bad he was. I'm not
going to say the P word because I don't want
to say it. But man, they're onto something.
Speaker 7 (14:02):
They're on just they.
Speaker 8 (14:03):
I mean, we were getting love on every national because
we have a little fire stick and we were I
mean they were get in love on every sports show
like especially they all of them are. I mean not
just Bryce, I mean all of them. I mean I
think they're on to something. I don't Again, I don't
want to say playoffs, but yo, I said, I was
(14:23):
gonna ask you this before I got on the phone
Kyle August thirteenth, me and you talking, Hey, Kyle, we're
going to be three and three after Dallas. What would
you have said, Like you'd be.
Speaker 4 (14:34):
Like, oh my god, hell yeah, good cool, Yeah.
Speaker 5 (14:37):
Let's go.
Speaker 4 (14:37):
That's really it.
Speaker 8 (14:38):
So it's exciting time to be a Panther fan.
Speaker 6 (14:41):
It really is.
Speaker 8 (14:42):
It's about time, it really is.
Speaker 2 (14:45):
It is. Thank you, Frank. I appreciate the phone call. Yeah,
I mean, if Frank had had a censor himself right there,
it's just it was this is a great weekend just
to be able to go to Uptown. You knew they
were going to be Cowboys fans everywhere, as many as
I thought there were a lot, And we tend to
get a lot of the visiting fans at the Doghouse
on Sunday mornings because it's kind of a tourist attraction.
(15:07):
It's a big bar right next to the stadium. You know,
people see the radio studio. You're right there. You can
get in line to get in. The line was wrapped
around Mint Street like up Moorhead, Okay, under the bridge
onto Mint Street at eleven o'clock yesterday to get into
the stadium. But the vibes were great. Panthers fans were
out there. They got loud in the stadium. Whoever said
it earlier was right there. Weren't that many Cowboys fans
(15:30):
in the building. Not as many as I thought would
be there yesterday. There were more last year.
Speaker 3 (15:34):
Yeah, And well that's the thing too. It's the first
straight year they've played here too.
Speaker 2 (15:37):
Right, so there may be a little bit of a
less of an appeal to get back to this particular stadium.
But Panthers fans made tip of the cap to them
and truthfully, they've they've been given a reason to show up,
to care, to get loud, to be into the game,
and they made an impact. And I love it. Man,
I just think it's awesome. Seven oh four or five,
seven oh ninety six, ten, let's go back to the
phone lines. Billy and Gastonia is up next. What's up, Billy?
Speaker 7 (15:59):
What's going on?
Speaker 12 (15:59):
Guys?
Speaker 5 (16:00):
How you feeling?
Speaker 13 (16:01):
Oh?
Speaker 9 (16:02):
Man, I tell you it's been a long time coming.
I've been uh at a fan since the ninety five
and and uh I almost had to pinch myself this morning.
This is it's a good feeling. But I wanted to say,
you know, I know Bryce in college played in the
shotgun a lot, and I know that he's personally more
comfortable I think, you know, in the shotgun.
Speaker 7 (16:20):
But dude, his play action is just spot on him.
Speaker 9 (16:23):
He's so good under center. Yeah, and it showed it.
And I know that it comes to, you know, having
a good run game.
Speaker 8 (16:31):
His play action is spot on him.
Speaker 9 (16:32):
Yesterday that last drive, they started putting him in the
shotgun and I'm I'm up there screaming him now, put
him under center, put him on the center, because you
know it just he just he's more I don't know
what it is. He just seems to be more comfortable
under center than than when he's when he's in the shotgun.
And so I'd like to see that a little bit more,
a little bit more of that.
Speaker 4 (16:52):
And I wanted to ask.
Speaker 9 (16:53):
You guys too. I think it was the end a half.
I was a little confused on the pillo, the penalty
for that they picked up and Dallas wanted to take
ten sagas off and Carolina didn't, or it might have been.
Speaker 5 (17:05):
Vice vegas, vice versa.
Speaker 9 (17:06):
Yeah, but can you explain that because the flag was
picked up, there should have been no time taken off,
am am?
Speaker 2 (17:14):
I correct, Well, they put the time back on the
clock they were Originally they said they were going to
take it off, and then they didn't. Dallas, I believe,
called time out to prevent that. And that's where I
go back to what I said earlier. There was a
lot going on there. But I got to applaud Dave
Canalis for the way that he handled that end of
half because he hasn't always done that well. Right, But
you could feel it down seventeen to ten in that situation,
(17:35):
I mean, you can't give Dallas the ball back in
that spot, right, Dallas. And at halftime in the press
box yesterday, our guy a Niche Shraw, voice of the Panthers,
was out. Everybody was grabbing a snack and he and
I were talking about this, and we had the same thought.
Dallas is averaging more points than anybody in the NFL
at the end of half situations, and so Carolina k new,
we get the ball back to start the second half,
(17:56):
we have to get points. Even if it's a field goal,
that's fine. I had a chance to come out and
go ahead in the second half, and that's exactly what happened.
So I appreciate the phone call Billy, Thank you, buddy.
Really well managed by Dave Canalis there at the end
of the first half.
Speaker 3 (18:08):
And I will say, I know Willy p had a
problem with that in the postgame show because he wanted
to go for six at that point, but I was
fine with three. Yeah, I was fine with three at
that point. Now, the only thing that made that situation
to mess was Xavier Lea getting ric o'dowdell's weird concoction
that they came up with to the latter one. I mean,
if it wasn't for that. I don't think there'd be
as much hand rigging over that decision. Plus turned out
(18:29):
to win the game because you got a good kicker, right.
Got to give credit Ryan Fitzgerald. We talked about Rico Dowdell.
He should be Offensive Player to the Week again. Fitzgerald
should be Special Teams Player of the Week. The stay
five yard field goal game winner as time expires. That's
a big moment for a rookie.
Speaker 2 (18:43):
Care If you haven't seen it, you got to go
check out my twitter feed at Kyle Bailey Club. I
talked to Ryan Fitzgerald. I was the first person to
get to his locker yesterday in the locker room, and
I hate putting my phone in people's face. Is It's
very unnatural for me. And you'll hear me at the
beginning of the video, I'm like apologizing to Ryan for
sticking the camera, but I'm talking to him. And this
guy just went and grabbed a coke, a full sugar coke,
(19:03):
just a can of coke after a big win. And
this dude's got ice water in his veins. He's like,
I was like, are you nervous? He's like, why would
I be nervous. It's a great opportunity. It's very exciting.
Speaker 5 (19:12):
This kid.
Speaker 2 (19:12):
I love him, Oh, I love him. All right, we'll
come back. We'll take your phone calls. Who's your bobbies up?
Speaker 14 (19:16):
First?
Speaker 2 (19:17):
We got a full bank to get to And I
have a mea culpa that I have to admit to
on the air next Sports Radio ninety two to seven
WF and Z. So before we resume the football talk, Smoke,
I have to tell you something that I haven't even
told you yet. Today we have you and I've worked
(19:40):
together for years now on this show, and so things
happen throughout the course of the years that we come
to know as like annual milestones, things that we expect
to happen, you know, like any radio relationship. Like every year,
I expect for it to be your birthday.
Speaker 5 (19:52):
Oh please don't take it Today's day, I know.
Speaker 2 (19:55):
And so every year you you try to make it
throughout the entire day without anybody in the building knowing
that it's your birthday.
Speaker 5 (20:01):
This year, by working with Walker, you did.
Speaker 2 (20:03):
And every year James from Maiden sends us a text
when it's Friday Nights, What is not Friday Night Lights?
When it's Duke's Friday Night get to get what's the
damn thing called when Duke plays on Friday night? The scrimmage,
that the Blue and White game. What's it called? You
know you're a Duke fan? What do they call it?
You can't remember?
Speaker 5 (20:19):
Can you? No, I'm just wanting to see you squirrel
a little. What is it called? I don't know, I
can't remember what it's called. It's Midnight Matters. Thank you?
Tell me.
Speaker 3 (20:27):
I forget the exact wording of it, but yeah, it's
it's basically.
Speaker 2 (20:30):
Midnight matter Well, it sounds like you already know what
I'm about to tell you. But this morning is I'm
getting set to leave the house. Uh, my wife and
I are you know we're doing We've got to pay
for something. And I'm telling my wife, hey, I need
you to write a check for this, and she goes,
what's today?
Speaker 5 (20:42):
And I was like, check my watch.
Speaker 2 (20:44):
The thirteenth and she goes, okay, And I turned to
go about my business to get ready for work, and
my heart drops. I'm like, holy crap, it's my wedding anniversary.
Holy crap. And it's for that brief moment where I'm like,
does she know I don't think she knows.
Speaker 5 (21:00):
Does she know?
Speaker 2 (21:01):
And so I turned to her and I'm like And
at this point, I like, I'm busted. If she knows,
I'm already screwed. So I got to come clean, like,
is today our wedding anniversary? She goes, holy crap, is it?
Speaker 9 (21:12):
Ah?
Speaker 2 (21:12):
And I was like yes, And she goes, wait, is
it the twelfth?
Speaker 5 (21:15):
And I was like, I win.
Speaker 2 (21:16):
She doesn't even know what date our anniversary is. I
knew today was our I didn't know until this morning
when I checked my watch. But today is my seventh
wedding anniversary. And for the third consecutive year, third straight year,
neither I nor my wife realized that it was our
wedding anniversary. Three straight years we've done this. Neither of
us realized it was our anniversary until the morning of
(21:37):
our anniversary.
Speaker 5 (21:39):
So for the third.
Speaker 2 (21:40):
Straight year on this show, I get to come on
the air and tell you that for the third straight year,
my wife and I had no idea Panthercliff just said, yo, KB,
you did this bleep last year, right, yeah, and the
year before that too, Like, I mean, heart sinks, yeah,
Rod says, KB, didn't you all do this? A few
years ago, three straight years, man, three straight years. I
checked the watch, I realized what day it is? Look
at my wife? Oh god, is it our wedding anniver?
(22:03):
Oh is it? Oh crap?
Speaker 5 (22:05):
Benefits to having three kids in three years? I guess. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (22:10):
So I survived for the third straight year as a
married man, forgetting my wedding anniversary. And my wife has
to come clean that she had no idea that today
was our anniversary either whatsoever.
Speaker 3 (22:20):
I'll never forget that day because we were. You were
getting married right outside the Walkovia building, dude, the Wakovia building.
Yet I remember, I was like, oh my godness, Walkovia Building. Uh,
let's see. Mac and I had a dance off, and
then every one of your friends and Gruzman. I remember
Dwight Vickers right outside of the restroom watching the Carolina
Virginia Tech game, which you guys all thought was going
to be a blowout. Yep, but then it got very
(22:42):
hairy right at the end, and you guys luckily won.
Speaker 5 (22:44):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (22:45):
Absolutely, third straight year. Neither one of us had any
idea it was our wedding anniversary. So and again she
can't say anything now because her response was, damn is it. Wait,
today's the twelfth, and like even I know it's the
thirteenth of October. That's how I knew. So I'm off
the hook completely, well hopefully for you. She remembers what
November eleventh is. Yeah, she knows my birthday, but she
(23:06):
has no idea. She had no clue that today was
our wedding anniversary. All right, there's my story. Who's your
Bobby's up next on the phone, last to talk Panthers Bobby?
Speaker 5 (23:14):
What's going on?
Speaker 3 (23:14):
Brother?
Speaker 5 (23:14):
How are you?
Speaker 7 (23:16):
I'm good? I'm still laughing about that. I mean, I'm
going to do you a favor. I'm putting it on
my calendar so I can text you next year the morning.
Speaker 5 (23:23):
No, thank you.
Speaker 2 (23:24):
But the worst part is Smoke. As soon as I
started talking, Smoke already knew what I did.
Speaker 5 (23:29):
He hasn't memorized and he didn't text me this morning.
Speaker 7 (23:32):
Yeah, smoke, Come on, You're better than that.
Speaker 5 (23:35):
So what's on your mind when you think about that
win yesterday?
Speaker 4 (23:38):
I loved it.
Speaker 7 (23:39):
Can I get a hell?
Speaker 11 (23:40):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (23:41):
For the Panthers and the Hoosiers?
Speaker 5 (23:43):
Bro, how lucky are you? Like?
Speaker 2 (23:45):
Think about think about what Bobby's been through as a
Panther fan the last several years.
Speaker 5 (23:49):
And who's your football's going to be? A who's your
football fan? In general?
Speaker 2 (23:52):
And y'all just stumble into kurtz signette. Y'all are having
the time of your lives.
Speaker 7 (23:57):
It's crazy. We've ever meant it of it. But to
the Panthers, we're talking about the run game or the
run defense. Uh, smoke, you forgot we slowed down b
John Robinson.
Speaker 5 (24:07):
Also, oh yeah that's true. Yeah, that's true.
Speaker 7 (24:10):
Another another stud. So a couple of things I like
the most. The drive. I think this is our last
touchdown in the second half, if I'm not mistaken. Wasn't
it all run? No pass?
Speaker 15 (24:22):
Uh?
Speaker 5 (24:24):
Did the one that led to led to a field goal?
Speaker 7 (24:27):
Or maybe it was a field goal? Yeah, but it
was all run. And we tuned up eight eight or
so minutes. So you know, the run defense and running
the ball is our identity and I hope they realize
that and stick to it for the rest of the season.
Shout outs. Josh Ny did a great job filling in
for Timo. And then You've talked a lot about Bryce
being clutch, and yesterday the throw to to Renfro was clutch.
(24:50):
And we're starting to see that. Yeah, I mean really clutch,
and we're starting to see that consistently, and I think
what that's going to mean for us is a more
confident team, more team chemistry. So right now my expectations
on Bryce have improved. I still think there's more to learn,
but I'm satisfied compared to where we were sitting a
(25:10):
year ago. Thanks take my.
Speaker 2 (25:11):
Call, Thank you, Bobby. Good to hear from you, buddy.
Seven oh four five, seven ninety six ten, which got
I bet to.
Speaker 3 (25:16):
Remember that last possession which led to the game winning
field goal, at least off the top of my head.
Speaker 5 (25:21):
Three pass plays.
Speaker 3 (25:22):
It was the one where they pretended to run and
quickly got it to the flats of Tommy Tremble.
Speaker 5 (25:26):
That's where he poorly attempted to do a hurdle.
Speaker 3 (25:29):
The fourth down throw to Hunter intro and DP I
called it should have been called a play. Before that,
we all in the press box, every last one of
us knew that Tommy Tremble was about to try to
hurdle somebody. Every opportunity that guy gets to hurdle somebody,
he's going to try. And Mac and I say the
same thing. It's just licensed to karate kick somebody in
the chest legally, and Tommy seems to love doing that.
PSL suckers up next, what's going on, buddy? Howd you
(25:50):
feel about those Panthers yesterday?
Speaker 6 (25:52):
I'll tell you how I'm feeling.
Speaker 7 (25:53):
I'm not feeling like such a sucker anymore.
Speaker 5 (25:56):
Ooh, I'm for.
Speaker 16 (25:58):
The first time of the year.
Speaker 7 (26:01):
I didn't feel like a sucker yesterday.
Speaker 2 (26:03):
We don't have to make any rash decisions here, but like,
at what point do we change your name? Does that
become necessary at some point?
Speaker 6 (26:10):
Well, we've got a.
Speaker 16 (26:11):
Little bit of a schedule coming up, so we'll see
what happens. But you know, like I've been saying, I'm
just grateful for the opportunity to go to a game,
enjoy it and not be fand's that's a new experience
and I'll be grateful for that. My question to you is,
you know, I go to the games, I don't have
the benefit of watching it on TV until later in
(26:31):
the week. And we talked about horn on their best receiver,
and I know we don't do that, but it did
appear to me, and immediately it was towards the end
of the game, so I was a little inebriated, but
didn't Horn get put on pickings at the very end.
And isn't that what I mean? It looked like it
(26:52):
to me. And Dak ended up throwing two running backs.
And my question is, could we possibly start doing that?
And wouldn't that competate for some of the problems we
have rush in the past.
Speaker 2 (27:04):
You're talking about just letting JC travel with the opponent's
best wide receiver.
Speaker 7 (27:08):
Yeah, it seemed like that was happening at the very
end of me. You know, again, I don't know what
they were saying on TV, but it looked like it.
Speaker 4 (27:14):
Uh and uh wouldn't that help your pass rush?
Speaker 16 (27:18):
At least the guy would all likelihood have to go
through his first progression, which once Justin Fields has to
do that, he's hopeless, you would think.
Speaker 2 (27:26):
So, Yeah, you, I mean, I appreciate the phone call,
but it is apparently against is zero Everro's football religion
to allow his top corner to travel with the opposing
top wide receiver he doesn't see. He's been asked about
this multiple times.
Speaker 3 (27:38):
Well, it kind of makes me think when Josh Norman
first got to Washington, that was one of the complaints
A lot of the Washington fan base hadles the fact
that didn't they didn't let Jo travel with Antonio Brown
at first Monday night game. So and I think it
was kind of like that with Sean McDermott. But I
feel like Sewan also let jayn No go with Julio
Jones no matter where he was at, and he was
a little bit more lenient on that. I think some
(28:00):
times you just you gotta let your players make the
big time players make big time plays.
Speaker 2 (28:04):
Well, Jacon Horn did ask Vero to go follow Pickens
yesterday on that final drive.
Speaker 3 (28:07):
On the final drive. Yeah, so you know, it's just
one of those situations. It's just I think we could
look back on this game later on the year and
just think to Heavens that Cedee Lamb wasn't playing in
this game because he could be coming back this week.
Imagine what would have been the problems if I mean
they could have we could have stopped to run, Carolina
could have stopped to run, and then they still had
Cedee Lamb and uh George Pickens for a football down
(28:30):
the field along with Jake Ferguson.
Speaker 5 (28:31):
So that could have been a whole lot worse.
Speaker 2 (28:32):
Yeah, somebody just reminded me of that, but yeah, it's true.
I mean he went to him yesterday and asked to
cover Pickens on the final drive. So maybe that sparks
more of it. I don't know, but I'd like to
see it. Biscuits and gravy. Dan is up next. What's
going on, buddy? How you been?
Speaker 17 (28:47):
Let me tell you one thing, KB. You need to
put the twelfth on your Google calendar or whatever it is,
the way you know the day before thirteenth way, yeah,
I know. But if you put it the day before,
oh yeah, you'll know. But anyway, let's get to the
good part. Carolina Panthers three game home winning streak. I
believe I started that. You know, I don't like to
(29:09):
take credit for anything, but uh yeah, I think I
started that because every game I've been through, every Panthers
game I've been to, even when we played the Raiders,
I went as a Raiders fan, came up, Panthers won.
So I'm eight and oh at home with the Panthers.
So let's just keep it rolling. I want to see
Bryce keep being Bryce's He's starting to be himself. He's
(29:33):
starting to be like, like this is what I tell him.
I know, he can't hear me, but I'm like, Bryce,
you've been doing this your whole life, been playing football
your whole life.
Speaker 8 (29:40):
Just play football.
Speaker 17 (29:40):
And you can see him starting to play football.
Speaker 7 (29:42):
And that's what I like to see the.
Speaker 17 (29:44):
Panthers playing football, stopping to run, running the ball.
Speaker 8 (29:47):
Let's go.
Speaker 17 (29:48):
When Cuba comes back, we're going to jump on that
Cuba that to Q train and we're going to have
double trouble times to two point zero. Let's get it rolling.
Let's go Panthers.
Speaker 8 (30:00):
E G.
Speaker 2 (30:00):
D checking in. Appreciate you, buddy. What I heard right
there is the Panthers need to give you a special
seat in the building. If you're eight no in watching
the Panther. I think we need to get you in
an honorary seat at Bank of America. Somebody give him
a PSL for God's sake, get him in the building
full time until unless something changes.
Speaker 5 (30:16):
Why are you looking like that? What's on your face?
Speaker 8 (30:17):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (30:18):
Preseason I've only been I've been to about fifteen games.
I think my record's like eleven to five, twelve and fours.
Speaker 5 (30:23):
That's not eight.
Speaker 2 (30:24):
No, it's like trying to that's like trying to compare
Lebron's Finals record to MJ's he's eight.
Speaker 5 (30:28):
No, you're not.
Speaker 2 (30:30):
You're not he's eight. No, it's a wedding record. Hey, hey,
why are you comparing me to Lebron? That's Mine's a
wedding record too. What are you talking about?
Speaker 5 (30:37):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (30:37):
He said, ask seven oh four number, says KB said.
Bryce has the clutch gene. He had a perfect QB
rating in the fourth quarter also when they were trailing.
Speaker 5 (30:45):
Yeah, he's clutch. He just is.
Speaker 2 (30:48):
He's not the perfect quarterback, but he's clutch. I realize
he has dug some of these holes himself, but he
is clutch, and it's just a fact at this point.
Speaker 5 (30:58):
Now, he's got to win more games, obviously, but you.
Speaker 2 (31:00):
Know, when he's been given opportunities to win games and
to bring this team back from behind or lead game
winning drives or go ahead drives, he has done it
more often than not. There's a lot to that. There's
a lot to be said for that. By the way,
for those asking for where's Loser Radio today? You missed
it in the three o'clock hour. However, stick around. It'll
be the last thing you hear on today's show. So
(31:21):
if you miss Loser Radio in the three o'clock hour
stick around fifteen minutes from now, as we exit the show,
we will bring back an encore edition of Loser Radio.
Panther t Dog is up next. What's up buddy?
Speaker 4 (31:35):
Hey? Yeah, listen, how about them?
Speaker 15 (31:41):
I'm out, jabriy home outs mo listen, Man, i'dn't been
a forty five sadness m eighty five.
Speaker 4 (31:48):
I can't find him. I wouldn't work.
Speaker 15 (31:50):
People don't called out what a cow Girl fans this?
I can't find him, know what, Gamie, But listen, presinations.
I hope now all see that. Hey when we move again,
because it don't happen.
Speaker 4 (32:04):
We don't even throw everything away every time, y'all junk about.
Speaker 15 (32:08):
Dave Canalys and Dan Morgan. Look who balled yesterday or
the other day.
Speaker 7 (32:13):
Mitchell the tight end.
Speaker 15 (32:15):
She was a draft pick, Jamie Horn right, jump.
Speaker 4 (32:18):
We are developing young players. We only don't get better,
and we're a young team.
Speaker 15 (32:22):
Just be patient, you know what I'm saying, Especially when
I got farly members of Cowboy fans and I asked
in the phone, Oh it's up, beautiful day, it's gonna
be a great Thanksgiving. I ain't want to see him anyway,
you know, what I'm saying. But listen, last thing, KB,
that's true love, man, that's true love when you and
your wife can forget the anniversary.
Speaker 4 (32:41):
Man, you was a happy man. Congratulations KP had the anniversary.
That's the best thing going for you, little boud It.
Speaker 2 (32:46):
You ain't wrong about that, buddy. I appreciate the phone call.
Thank you to you.
Speaker 5 (32:49):
Dog.
Speaker 2 (32:49):
Susan's giving me the business right now. She Susan texted
me and said, KB, you are a grown ass man.
Put it on your calendar, and I said, I'm going to.
But he and I got three toddlers and she doesn't
even know the day. And then Susan clapped back at
me and said, last I checked, you both had three toddlers.
If she doesn't know the date, that speaks volumes as
to how tired she is. Now, listen, you're a female
(33:10):
having a female's back. I respect it, I get it.
But my own wife thinks it's funny, so much so
that she even posted about it this morning, joking about
the fact that we both forgot about it. So she
admitted publicly before I did, that she forgot our anniversary.
I'm not in trouble. I'm not in the doghouse here,
and thank you to dog. I agree, we're too busy
being a happy couple to worry about things like that.
(33:31):
We're too busy building a life and raising kids and
doing all the things that we do. So come on, now,
I understand that I got to do a little bit better.
But she doesn't even know the date, and she thought
it was funny. All right, Andrew's up next, Andrew, what's
going on?
Speaker 12 (33:45):
Hey, Kab, thanks for taking my call. I love hearing
all this optimism and enthusiasm around the Panthers right now.
It was really hard to get through on the phone lines, actually,
so that's a great sign. I wanted to call in
touch on the locker room speech. So it was made
by Canal. It's after the game. Yeah, that honestly answered
a lot of questions for me. I just remember vividly
(34:05):
seeing teams in that spot that were on the rise,
like the Lions in particular, come to mind. I'm not
saying he's the motivator that you know their coach is,
but you know, you see teams in those spots when
they're all together and they're celebrating giving our game balls
and saying giving a shout out to everybody who played
a great game. It seemed like there was a lot
(34:25):
of togetherness and camaraderie that was shared by the team.
And it looks like finally they're gonna play for Dave
Canalis and they're ready to go to war for him.
And that answered a lot of questions for me.
Speaker 2 (34:36):
I appreciate you Andrew a great phone call. I mean,
I think they respect him. I do think that. I
think they like him. I don't think he's ever come
close to losing the locker room, except maybe last year
after the first two weeks of the season when Bryce
was terrible, but I'm not even sure he was really
in danger of it. Then I think they like and
respect the guy. And so I think that was again
you're right obvious yesterday. So hopefully that builds. I mean,
(34:58):
Dave's had to learn on the job and get better
since he took over, and I thought yesterday he and
that coaching staff took a step forward. Dave, in particular,
the game management was much better. Think about the fact
they got the ball with six and a half minutes
letter six minutes left to go in the game and
never gave the football back, never gave it back and
that's on top of a well orchestrated end of the
(35:19):
first half with no mistakes that could have been incredibly costly.
They've had a good game, a really good game yesterday.
Let's go to smoke on the headlines.
Speaker 3 (35:31):
All right, So we've got a couple of updates here. First,
the ALCS is currently ongoing Game two, and it has
been a wild start.
Speaker 5 (35:38):
The Manners got three runs on the board to the top.
Speaker 3 (35:40):
Of the first thanks to a Julio Rodriguez home run,
but then at the bats got hot and along with
an error for the Blue Jays to put two on
the board. It's bottom of the second, no outs into
blue Jays already have a runner in first. And in
tonight's action of Monday Night Football, it's a doubleheader. First,
the Falcons take on the Buffalo Bills, and the notcap
(36:02):
game which staggered start is the Washington Commanders versus the
Chicago Bears. One year after that infamous Hail Mary, you
will be able to hear the Washington Bears game right
here on Sports Radio w f and Z following the
forty nine Ers coaches show here on Sports.
Speaker 5 (36:19):
Radio wf and Z.
Speaker 2 (36:20):
I got a prediction for you Hibby Atlanta wins tonight,
full blown meltdown in Buffalo tomorrow, Washington.
Speaker 5 (36:30):
Ham or Chicago. What do you think I could see that?
Speaker 3 (36:35):
Yeah, yeah, I could see that could be a flat
because guess you know, for as much as we're talking
up the bills, and rightfully so, they have been playing
fire with a couple of these games. Remember if Saints
gave him a tough battle in Buffalo earlier this year.
Speaker 2 (36:46):
All right, and Seattle up three to two on Toronto
right now in the ALCS bottom of the second. This
one's been fun already, lots of runs and errors and
big plays already. And then don't forget eight to oh
eight tonight the NLCS Dodgers at Milwaukee. This one's in Milwaukee,
Game one of the NLCS. We'll come back. If you
missed Loser Radio earlier in the show, our favorite tradition
(37:09):
after a Panthers win, you will hear us. Well, we
won't be doing the mocking, but you will hear Cowboys
fans melting down on their postgame radio show, among other things.
When we return Loser Radio and we wrap up the show.
Next Sports Radio ninety two to seven WFNZ one Final
(37:41):
time Sports Radio ninety two seven wfn ZKB and smoke
with you, wrapping up a fun show. It's nice to
be able to do a couple of these Mondays in
a row, back to back wins, Panthers at five hundred
zero to six, Jets on the horizon, man that be
and just looking ahead a little bit more. Not that
the Panthers should be, but we have the to do
that if you can go beat the Jets in East
(38:03):
rut Thefford on Sunday, and Derek Brown has been today
apparently in the locker room emphasizing we have to overcome
our own demons. We haven't won on the road yet.
We've been bad on the road. We can't sit back
and pretend like anything is gonna come easy to us.
And that's the right messaging. But man, if you go
beat the Jets on Sunday and you can come back
to the Bank four and three with the Bills in town,
(38:24):
I mean, what an atmosphere that's going to be Sunday,
October twenty sixth at Bank of America Stadium.
Speaker 5 (38:29):
It's gonna be awesome.
Speaker 2 (38:30):
So because we end the show today with Loser Radio,
we tip our caps really quickly. Courtesy of our friends
at Neogenics where they help heal joint pain naturally with
no surgery, no medication, no downtime. Go to neogenicstemsales dot com.
Spoke what you got. Unfortunately this is a Cymber one.
I'm gonna tip my cap to Amanda. And I knew
very well Terry Ryan Hart.
Speaker 3 (38:48):
He did a lot of work for high school scene
in radio and Chervil Lincoln.
Speaker 5 (38:52):
He knew he knew almost as much, maybe.
Speaker 3 (38:54):
Just as much when it came to high school football
with as Richard Walker, and unfortunately we lost him so
over the weekend, had a big impact on just Lincoln County,
worked at West Lincoln High School and faltered prayers out
to his family.
Speaker 5 (39:07):
He was a great man.
Speaker 2 (39:07):
Too well said I'll tip my cap to my wife.
Happy anniversary, honey. Sorry, we both keep forgetting it all
right before we go or as we go. It's an
encore presentation of a segment we all love so much.
When the Panthers win, we mock and laugh at, laugh
at and ridicule the feelings and emotions and meltdowns of
the opposing fan base, and especially so when the Panthers
beat the Dallas Cowboys. And here we have it As
(39:29):
we wrap up the show an encore presentation of Loser Radio.
Speaker 18 (39:39):
I was wrong about my Dallas Cowboys. They're obviously not
better than everybody thinks. They're way, way, way worse than
everybody thinks, even me.
Speaker 19 (39:51):
Boy, this really changes the way that you're looking at
this football team.
Speaker 5 (39:55):
After a disappointing road defeat, now Dallas really got with it.
Speaker 19 (39:59):
This this defense is is really historically bad.
Speaker 10 (40:04):
We get close to making a run and trying to
get in the playoffs, they're gonna.
Speaker 4 (40:08):
Have to go on lit evil flew slow. It's no
way you could keep it. Man, his defense is horrible.
Speaker 7 (40:12):
They could not stop nothing.
Speaker 15 (40:14):
It's like being open on Harry Hines in Dallas tics.
Speaker 8 (40:17):
Man, everything was open.
Speaker 6 (40:19):
Man, Well I ain't don alright, Taylors. That was beeniful.
Speaker 12 (40:23):
That was some of the worst things.
Speaker 6 (40:25):
Those defensive players.
Speaker 11 (40:26):
They need to take the stars.
Speaker 9 (40:27):
Off the helmet and put on the picture of a
cow paddy, because that's what they were today.
Speaker 18 (40:31):
There's a lot of individual talent on that defense, but
I watched it quit on Matt eber Fraud, the defensive coordinator.
Speaker 19 (40:39):
Let me tell you that offense, they got the ball
in the road forty six and did nothing with it.
Speaker 5 (40:44):
That's a failure right there. Yes, you're you're a ten.
Speaker 19 (40:46):
Yards Yeah, you're ten yards away from getting your in
the field goal range. When they actually do get a stop,
what do you do? You don't play complimentary football, No,
you pee down your leg.
Speaker 14 (40:59):
Listen to you straight right now, while he's playing the
best he's ever played yet. One or two first round
picks four in paired with the other two extra first
round picks you had, and rebuild this defense bringing Matt
Jones with a great coordinator. You have a Super Bowl
two years guaranteed. I've watched it for fifty years.
Speaker 13 (41:14):
We need co head coaches at this point, the one
to run the defense because Shotty's not.
Speaker 4 (41:19):
Doing a bad job at offense, and.
Speaker 6 (41:21):
Cherry's got the funds to help you and see facilitate.
Speaker 13 (41:24):
The buyout and every big bell over here to run
this defense, you know, I mean, then he opens the
doors to Hey, you now got your hands on Bill
Belichick and what he's got to offer, and he's here
if you decide that shot he's not working and you
want to make him your head coach.
Speaker 3 (41:39):
They made it clear Rico Daddle was gonna be the
