Speaker 2 (00:41):
Victory Chevrolet dot Com wide open five o'clock hour. Your
phone calls always welcome, Your text are gonna come no
matter what. And I appreciate that. A few people texting
in to ask who Prince Lee Yumanmiellen beat to get
to Bryce Young earlier today. I actually don't know the
answer to that question. Does anybody know Flounder? Do you
know who he beat?

Speaker 3 (00:59):
Was it Icky?

Speaker 4 (01:00):
It from a good source, a man that looks like
one of the former coaches of the Carolina Panthers, who
is sitting behind you currently, mister Dennis Cox.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
He who looks like Matt Ruhle, Matt Rule. He told
me it was Ikey. He believes it was Ikey because it.

Speaker 4 (01:15):
Was the first teamers that were out there. One thing
that was also of note opposite of Princey Penceley. Excuse me, Princely,
I can talk there, you go, Uman me Ellen was
Nick Gorton on that rep So the two rookies getting
pressure on the quarterback.

Speaker 3 (01:30):
Dude, I'm stoked. I really am.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
Like I'm trying to I'm trying to temper the excitement
for these because you know, you never want to put
too much expectation on a rookie, you know, certainly a
couple of second round guys, even though you know, I
know Scorton had a first round grade from a lot
of folks, including the Panthers.

Speaker 3 (01:45):
I just I'm so stoked to see what these guys
can do.

Speaker 2 (01:48):
I had, you know, like a lot of folks, I
had assumed that Clowney would be back as part of
the veterans committee to you know, hold down the fort
while the young pups got ready. But I do think
they've got a tremendous amount of confidence and Scoreton's ability
to make an impact right away. Princeley's gonna be a
bit more situational, obviously. I don't think they look at
him yet as a three down edge rusher. If he'll
ever be that, I don't know. But his twitchiness, his

(02:10):
explosiveness is bend off the edge, you know.

Speaker 3 (02:13):
And so when you hear he.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
Beat Ikey, you the he's not a left tackle text
he should have been a guard.

Speaker 3 (02:19):
He's overrated. They can't resign and they can't.

Speaker 2 (02:21):
Okay, camp, everybody just relaxed a little bit UFC pillow fight.
Why doesn't that surprise me? Y'all got to ease up
on Ikey a little bit. Man, Damn well.

Speaker 3 (02:30):
Here's the something.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
Y'all act like he's a scrub and I don't get it.
I said it on the show earlier.

Speaker 4 (02:35):
That's the one rep that they talk about because it
was the one that ended practice.

Speaker 3 (02:40):
What did the other reps look like?

Speaker 4 (02:41):
Right where there are other reps where he got the
best of Princely and this was the one where finally
Princely gets one on him. Guys, it's gonna happen. I've
been to so many prospects camps, Kyle. When you go
to these where kids will get beat and you'll be like, man,
that was bad. It's a bad rep. It's a bad rep.
You come back the next time. You could be perfect
the whole day of practice. That's the one rep where

(03:01):
you mess up and everybody's like, man, he's just terrible. Yeah,
and who Like, I'm not trying to make excuses for anybody,
but if you've been around football, like even if you
even if you just played in high school, right, you
know that especially in fall practice, camp, whatever you want
to call it, guys are drilling certain things, they're working
on certain things. Icky might have had the offensive line
coach in his ear saying, hey, give this a shot.

Speaker 3 (03:21):
Do this.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
You just don't know the context. And I go back
to what who's the LSU tackle at New England?

Speaker 4 (03:27):
Now?

Speaker 3 (03:27):
Will Campbell?

Speaker 2 (03:28):
You know Will Campbell the point that he made about hey,
you know with with I don't know the exact quote,
but he was like, hey, edge rushers, you know you
average a sack of game. You know you're a Hall
of Famer or something along those lines as left tackles.
If we did that, we're working at Amazon. Right, So
those reps where you do get they're highlighted, but you
don't pay near as much attention to the reps where

(03:49):
they win because you're just following the football for the
most part, like unless you're watching offensive linemen specifically, and
a very small percentage of fans are doing that. You know,
if a guy doesn't get beat, you don't know notice
it because you're just watching the football to see what happens.

Speaker 3 (04:02):
So I get it.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
But well, I take that back. I actually don't get
why some people still have the feelings toward Ikey that
they do. If he goes out and stinks it up
this year, we'll have the conversation. But I thought he
had a really nice bounce back here last year, and
what is going to help him tremendously all these guys,
but what's really going to help him too, and would
help any left tackle is running the ball effectively.

Speaker 3 (04:23):
If you go out there and you put.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
Cuba and Dabele to work and you're one of the
better running attacks in the NFL, that is only going
to make their past protection responsibilities that much easier. So
you know, we know that's always been Icky's strength. He's
a road grater. You want to run behind him as
often as possible, and I think I hope the Dave
Canalis is going to do exactly that now. Before I

(04:45):
Chubb in a tub, just as KB did. I miss
the Cam Newton audio yet you did not. We're gonna
play that here in just a couple of minutes. But
I did want to bring this up to pay off
the teas from the previous break. There was reading through
Joe Person's training camp observations from earlier today, and part
of it was pointing out that tight end Tommy Tremble
showed up today wearing, as Joe wrote, ath leisure and

(05:07):
a bucket hat ath leisure. I don't know athletics wins.
I don't know what's ath leisure, A wins suit.

Speaker 3 (05:14):
I don't know. It's a weird one.

Speaker 5 (05:15):
I thought it was just usure. Was just stuff that
you wear that is like leisure, stuff that you do
while you're working out.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
I guess it's like sweatpants basically. Yeah, I would have
just gone with sweatpants or the ath leisure thing threw
me off. But anyway, but he said that Tommy showed
up today wearing ath leisure and a bucket hat, and
quote didn't look like someone close to being ready. He's not,
Canalis said Tremble is in a week to week status
following back surgery in May, adding that three to four
weeks would likely be the earliest that he could return. Uh,

(05:48):
I don't know, smoke like I I'm not sure that
this moment in time, I expect Tommy Tremble to be
their week one.

Speaker 5 (05:54):
Oh No, I don't think so. And that's why I
kind of find it very peculiar. I know that the
signed a tight end yesterday from Seattle, but it wasn't
what I was thinking of, because I feel like Noah
Fan would be a perfect kind of one year guy
to have on this roster while you're still trying to
figure things out. Noah Fense, of course played with Seattle.
Was he was a part of the Russell Westborough h

(06:16):
Russell Wilson trade from Denver, and he he's not been
as good as I think people are expecting because he's
from Iowa, so people thought he's the next guy.

Speaker 3 (06:25):
He's gonna get a thousand yards.

Speaker 5 (06:27):
But he's still a valuable tight end in a sense
that he's a quality guy that can get the job done.
Kind of shock that Carolina hasn't reached out to that,
But as we know now, they got some bigger needs
that they got to fry right now at this point.
And or or as we've talked about Demani Richardson. Maybe
they're just that high on J. T. Sanaders having this
big of a year two no offense.

Speaker 2 (06:48):
Didn't he train and identify Colin Granger, the Coastal Carolina
forward who's already not a Panther anymore.

Speaker 5 (06:54):
Yes, yeah, that's what I thought, all right. So Hoggar's laughing.

Speaker 3 (06:59):
At me right now.

Speaker 4 (07:00):
He said, that's the reason we're not signing you, all right,
Your talent evaluation stinks.

Speaker 2 (07:05):
Yeah, well, I mean Granger was an injury settlement, right smoke,
I remembering that correctly, I believe so.

Speaker 5 (07:10):
Same thing with Musa Mohammad. Second, how'd that guy get
hurt already? By the way, Like how did he get
hurt that quick?

Speaker 2 (07:16):
He so like he had never played football, or at
least not since high school, comes over after playing basketball,
doesn't even get to the point where they put on
full pads and he gets hurt and he's just done,
Like what happened?

Speaker 3 (07:27):
Did he walk into a post?

Speaker 4 (07:29):
Most of them are most of them like previous injuries
that I guess you didn't realize, didn't heal fully or.

Speaker 2 (07:34):
Whatever the end of his knee and they're like, hey,
there's a crack right there, and the could be we
got to cut you loose here, big guy.

Speaker 3 (07:40):
Really okay? All right?

Speaker 2 (07:41):
Anyway, So point being, are you concerned about the tight
end position if if you know Tremble's not ready to
go week one? Because I know, Smoke that you like
your guy Mitchell Evans out of Notre Dame. I like
your guy Mitchell evens out of Notre Dame. I also
know better than to depend on a rookie tight end
early in his rookie season to be a big time
impact player. But I don't know, like I thought Tommy

(08:03):
Tremble closed the season out well last year. I thought
he was really developing some nice chemistry with Bryce. I
know that I think most fans, based on our day
to day conversations about the Panthers, have higher hopes for
Jatavion Sanders. But you know, I was really hoping to
have him both out there as much as possible.

Speaker 5 (08:18):
Yeah, this definitely does kind of sting a little bit,
because while Tommy's not a superstar guy, he's I don't
think at this point he's ever gonna be your number
one tight end on a good team. He's definitely a
good role player that knows what to do, especially when
it comes to run blocking. And you know that was
his role kind of in college too, because he was
never the guy at a Notre Dame in college because

(08:38):
it was either Cole Klement or it was a young
Michael Mayer.

Speaker 3 (08:44):
So he was never d guy when he was at
Notre Dame.

Speaker 5 (08:47):
And I just think he really knows his roles and
knows how to fit into it. And it really felt
like last year he finally figured out his role in
the NFL. And now you're having to worry about a
back issue, which is nothing to sneeze at. Yeah, and
you're probably gonna have to start the season without him.
I just I feel like if there's a guy like
Noah Fan who I think is a quality enough tight end,
especially in July on the free agent market, I feel

(09:10):
like you gotta kick the tires on that.

Speaker 2 (09:12):
Okay, all right, Well, interesting text just came in from
our h our h says, Hey, we haven't had a
tight end since Greg left.

Speaker 3 (09:19):
I think we'll be okay.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
Yeah, But isn't that the argument to the opposite, Like
they haven't had a tight end since Greg left, and
they haven't been okay? Like I think that's I hear
what you're saying. But Greg left and they really haven't
been okah.

Speaker 3 (09:32):
Your bar for okay is very very low, Sarah bar for.

Speaker 5 (09:35):
Okay, if I'm being honest, I mean, it's it's like
what we saw what happened right when Chris Magnum retired
in two after two thousand and five, it was the
tight end group was just like a bunch of guys,
you know, no offense. I mean, Dante Rosario, Rosario, Dawson,
whatever you want to call him. He was here for
a couple of years. Then you had Jeff King. You know,
it was just those guys never really panned out. And

(09:56):
it's kind of in that similar vein right now. In fact,
it lasted longer. Is at least that the whole post
Mangum's walls era last year from two thousand and six
to twenty ten? Did you traded for Greg Olsen and
also signed Jeremy Shockey? Right now? Who's the best tight
end post Greg Olsen?

Speaker 3 (10:15):
Uh?

Speaker 5 (10:17):
Tommy, Chris Mannherts. I think it might be Tommy maybe.

Speaker 2 (10:23):
Like when you said Chris Mangum, I thought you were
gonna thought you were mentioning Chris Mannhertz for a second. No, no, Chris, No, No,
it was not a shot at him. I'm just I
was thinking it doesn't matter. Never buy seven oh four
five seven ninety six ten hit us up on the
fan duel text line, Jack says, what about the basketball
playing tight end? What's he doing or how's he doing that?
We just talked about him. He's done like he I
think they they waved him was that May. I think

(10:44):
they let him go back. And I think I saw
him at the beach last week, Kyle. I think he
was down there hanging out in Conway.

Speaker 3 (10:50):
Yeah, I think I feel like they let him go
in May. Maybe.

Speaker 2 (10:54):
I don't think he lasted a full month. I don't
think he did either. No, he didn't, all right anyway,
So let's play the audio. Somebody said, Dan Arnold, Yes,
Dan Ardold, let's get that's the one.

Speaker 3 (11:05):
That's the one Dan Hardold.

Speaker 5 (11:06):
That was one of the worst moves ever in franchise
in Scott Fitter's history, was giving up Dan Arnold in
a pick for CJ.

Speaker 3 (11:13):
Henderson. Yeah, but that was.

Speaker 2 (11:16):
Also during that era where you know, people were excited
that Scott was in on every deal, and we thought
that was a good thing. It's like, hey, we got
a tight end that's in on every a tight end.
We have a GM that's in on every deal. Man,
this is awesome. And then you look up like a
six months later, like some of those deals should have
been in on man, They should not have been in
on that deal.

Speaker 3 (11:34):
You shouldn't have picked up the phone, Scott.

Speaker 2 (11:36):
So anyway, I tried to steer clear of a lot
of the former athlete pundit stirring up controversy and feuds
for clicks and attention. Stuff Like we've gotten a lot
of that here recently. A lot of it is Cam
Newton related, let's be honest. But also, you know RG
three versus Ryan Clark, not that long ago whatever, but

(11:57):
every once in a while something's interesting to talk about it.
So Cam Newton went after Ryan Clark and Dan Orlovsky
earlier today on his fourth and one podcast, called them
scrubs with opinions. Right, and before we play you what
Cam said about those two gentlemen, I'm gonna give you
the context. Because Cam Newton had given his list of

(12:19):
the top ten quarterbacks in the NFL. Right, no matter
how you feel about Cam, leg it's pertinent he's a
former MVP quarterback. He has a thought or two on
who the best current quarterbacks in the league are.

Speaker 3 (12:29):
So he did his own top ten list.

Speaker 2 (12:31):
It was a list that did not include Jalen Hurts,
reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles starting quarterback, not in
Cam's top ten. And yesterday they were debating that on
ESPN and you're gonna hear that a part of it
and what Ryan Clark had to say about it.

Speaker 3 (12:48):
Check this out.

Speaker 5 (12:50):
Well, now here is what I think.

Speaker 6 (12:51):
If you don't want to call Zalen Hurts in your
top ten, I have one question.

Speaker 3 (12:54):
Holds in the top ten and how do you get there?
And the last thing is this is this, right, Cam Newton,
is you is.

Speaker 6 (13:00):
Excuses to not put jail the Hurts in the top ten.
Excuses are tools of incompetence that build monuments of nothingness,
and those who major in their usage are non achievers.
The ring that Jalen Hurts is walking around with, says
top ten to me, Tell Cam to.

Speaker 3 (13:15):
Show you his wow.

Speaker 2 (13:18):
All right, tell Cam to show you his uh. In
case you forgot Ryan Clark does have a ring. Okay,
he did win a ring with the Steelers with Ben
Roethlisberger when they beat the Cardinals in the Super Bowl.

Speaker 5 (13:31):
Smoke out me out when you're seasons. I knew, yeah
the two thousand that was your Jake had that game.

Speaker 3 (13:38):
Yeah, yeah's that game, Kyle. Would you like to know
what happened on the forty second? Don't get it.

Speaker 5 (13:45):
Don't get him started. We don't have time for that
right now. So that that might have been around the
time of the pick six that.

Speaker 2 (13:50):
You did it anyway, you did it anyway, all right? Anyway,
So Ryan Ryan Clark has a title, He's got a ring.
He's always that's always gonna come out. It's ring culture
hated Love whatever. You know, that stuff's gonna come out.
Ryan Clark's gotta rank. Cam Newton doesn't tell Cam to
show you his rank. Well, this was Cam Newton's response,
if you will on the fourth and one podcast.

Speaker 3 (14:09):
I believe earlier today.

Speaker 1 (14:11):
That we want to attack the messenger, Ryan Clark. Okay,
let's pull up your stats. Second team all SEC. We
cannot relate. Undrafted in two thousand and two, we cannot relate.
Then you have one Pro Bowl in twenty and eleven,
we cannot relate. So if you want to unlock petty
Cam and everything that Cam Newton has ever said on
this fourth and one show has always been backed by
mayor and logic, but in some.

Speaker 3 (14:33):
Way shape form, people keep attacking.

Speaker 1 (14:35):
Cam the person, or why he didn't jump on the fumble,
why he didn't do this, or comparing the contrast. And
so when I compare the contrast, you guys are statistics
and Dan o'loski never mind. But as we keep going
and we keep unlocking and keep poking the bear and
y'all want to play this game.

Speaker 3 (14:56):
Owh was that it? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (14:58):
It cut off pretty it cuts off right there? Oh yeah, yeah?
I mean again, what do you call them scrubs with opinions?
You know, UDFA can't relate one Pro Bowl, can't relate
second round pick, can't relate right, So when it comes
to individual accolades, Cam is right. These two folks are
simply not comparable. I don't know where to go with
this smoke like it is. It is one of those

(15:19):
like ring culture arguments. You know, Ryan Clark gets to say,
look at my Super Bowl ring. He was a part
of the team. I don't think any of us believe that,
you know, Ryan is the reason that they beat the
Cardinals in the Super Bowl necessarily, I don't know, smoke
like a.

Speaker 3 (15:36):
What do you think?

Speaker 5 (15:37):
I I just wish we wouldn't do this when we
talk about the current game and actually break down the
current game and gives the current opinion.

Speaker 3 (15:44):
But the internet's eating this stuff up right now, you
know what I mean?

Speaker 5 (15:46):
And then you know the same people that are eating
this stuff. Upl then complains like, why are we not
talking about the current game. Why don't we have to
compare the contrast. It's like, well, I guess what, guys,
when you keep on doing all this petty craft and
starting doing all this stuff, it's the stuff that gets
to so there you go.

Speaker 2 (16:04):
They all benefit from this, Yeah, they do. Like, let's
let's be real about it. This is the game. I
think most of the audience. Like for the audience out there, guys,
I'm not gonna lie to you. I want you to
click on my podcast. I want you to download it.
I really do we need big numbers. We like big numbers.
We like it's it, you know, it's a sign of success.
These guys beefing and saying, you know, mean things to

(16:26):
one another, lobbing shots, duking it out, it's it's good
for the podcast numbers, it's good for the brand. More
people click on fourth and one, more more people download
the Pivot podcast to hear the responses. So do I
think that it's suddenly on site with Cam and Ryan
Clark when they run into each other at the met

(16:46):
galon next year?

Speaker 3 (16:47):
And probably not. I don't.

Speaker 2 (16:48):
I don't think when they run into each other at
the next NFL event that it's gonna be on site
that they're gonna.

Speaker 3 (16:53):
Have to be separated.

Speaker 2 (16:55):
I think they're both you know, I'm not saying they
cook this whole scheme up behind the scenes. They pre
planned all of it, but it's mutually beneficial, right. And
I also don't like Ryan Clark pulling out that I've
got a Super Bowl ring thing. He's allowed to He's
got the ring. I don't have one, so like he
can do what he wants to with it. But like
there is a difference between Ryan Clark and Cam Newton,

(17:17):
So you can make that you could argue against Cam's list.
You could say Cam leaving Jalen Hurts off. Let me
ask this question, does anybody think that Jalen Hurts isn't
one of the top ten quarterbacks in the NFL today?
How do you say that for a guy who not
only just won a Super Bowl, but played as well
as he did in route to winning a Super Bowl?

Speaker 5 (17:36):
Spoke, I can't personally keep him off the top ten.
I will say this. There might be some personals not
Jalen personally, but I don't know if you've seen there
was a discussion like a month or two ago on lines,
you know, someone put up that Jalen Hurts is a
better quarterback than Cam Newton, and then a lot of
people across not only Panthers fans, but just a lot
of NFL talking hands people that break down film are like,

(17:57):
are you guys idiots or what? I think Cam has
kind of been perturbed by the notion that Jalen Hurts
is better than he is as a quarterback in my opinion,
And I think those people are wrong, and I get it,
but I think maybe that was all.

Speaker 2 (18:11):
Talk about time about how like how wrong do you
think they are because one has a Super Bowl now
and the other one doesn't.

Speaker 4 (18:17):
Right.

Speaker 2 (18:18):
I know I'm stating the obvious, but I just want
to put it out there, like, do you think it's
not even a debate that Cam is the better player?

Speaker 3 (18:24):
Oh not right now?

Speaker 1 (18:25):
No?

Speaker 3 (18:25):
Okay?

Speaker 5 (18:26):
Why plus plus look at the guys that Jalen Hurts
has gotten the throw two, look at the offensive line.

Speaker 3 (18:31):
He's not had those concerns forughout his career.

Speaker 5 (18:33):
Okay, you know, I mean I'm not saying Cam for
to know one because he heard of Greg Olsen. He crew
to Steve Smith for early part of his career.

Speaker 2 (18:39):
And well, let let's do this on a pause on that,
because I want to know people out there listening, like,
is it even like how many people think?

Speaker 3 (18:46):
I want strong opinions.

Speaker 2 (18:47):
I want to know how many people like believe without
a shadow of a doubt that Cam's a better quarterback
than Jalen Hurts.

Speaker 3 (18:53):
Seven oh four five seven ninety six to ten. Just curious.

Speaker 2 (18:56):
Hit me up on the fan duel text line will
come back. We'll talk about it. I got to talk
some horn its too. Sports Radio ninety two seven WFNZ. Oh,

(19:19):
the text line is a blaze Cam Newton versus Jalen Hurts.
It's turned into another off season podcast few that benefits
the guys in their podcast more than anybody else.

Speaker 3 (19:29):
But it's Cam.

Speaker 2 (19:30):
He's always relevant these conversations around here, and he produced
a top ten quarterback list in the NFL Current day,
not all time, and that top ten list did not
include Jalen Hurts on it, despite the fact that Jalen
Hurts just you know, won the Super Bowl and played
very well along the way in doing so. Ryan Clark,
who has a podcast and is an ESPN pundit has

(19:50):
been for a long time, went after Cam threw some shots, said,
ask Cam to show you his ring, because of course
Ryan got one in Pittsburgh. Cam responded, I actually smoke.
Just played the Cam response again real quick for anybody
who missed it in the previous segment. This was Cam's
response to Ryan Clark's criticism of him on ESPN yesterday.

Speaker 1 (20:09):
That we want to attack the messenger, Ryan Clark. Okay,
let's pull up your stats. Second team All SEC. We
cannot relate. Undrafted in two thousand and two, we cannot relate.
Then you have one Pro Bowl in twenty and eleven,
we cannot relate. So if you want to unlock petty
Cam and everything that Cam Newton has ever said on
this fourth or one show has always been backed by
mayor and logic, but in some way shape form. People

(20:32):
keep attacking Cam the person, or why he didn't jump
on the fumble, why he didn't do this, or comparing
the contrast, and so when I compare the contrast, you
guys are statistics and Dan o'loski never mind, never mind.

Speaker 2 (20:48):
We got people on the text line saying why Dani
or Lobsky have to catch strays? They were listen, I
think most people like Dan No I do. I think
most people like that.

Speaker 4 (20:58):
I like that.

Speaker 2 (20:59):
I like Dan's breakdown. I was like, I really like
Dan Rolovsky. Dan is best known for running out of
the back of the end zone. Like that's the thing
that you know Dan Rolobski for. Just a fact he
was good at Yukon. But you know, that's what you
know Dan Orlovsky for.

Speaker 5 (21:11):
And he has a more worse food takes than will
plot it also that that's fair.

Speaker 3 (21:18):
Let me give you a taste of the text lock.

Speaker 2 (21:19):
So what I asked hering it before the break was,
you know how many people feel like smoke that without
a doubt, Cam Newton is the better quarterback than Jalen Hurts,
despite the fact that Jalen has a ring and Cam
of course does not, TC saying prime Cam is better
than Prime Hurts seven oh four number, asking if we
can comp their numbers, Yes, I have that in just
a second. QC Sam saying Nick Foles has a Super

(21:41):
Bowl MVP, so do Eli and Flacco. Jalen is one
thousand percent of product of his environment. Will never sniff
Cam as an individual player and talent. Let's see we
have Eli has two. I'd just like to point that out.

Speaker 1 (21:54):
Thank you.

Speaker 3 (21:55):
Yeah, wait MVP. Yeah, Seed, that's two super Bowl MVPs.
He does have two. That's that's right. You respect the man.

Speaker 2 (22:01):
Respect the man does have to concord Greg sis Cam
was a better quarterback on a worse team Cam Newton
seven oh four number. Cam has an MVP trophy. Jalen
Hurts does not. A lot of folks pointing like Chapel
Hill Billy pointing to hurtz defense that he has the
benefit of playing with John Warren saying there were at
least thirty two quarterbacks better than Cam Newton. Donod the
Bama fan, not surprisingly saying Jalen is better than Cam Newton.

(22:24):
That's the least surprising text on the text on if
I'm being honest, So real quick, let's look at the numbers.

Speaker 3 (22:29):
Oh I like that. I'm sorry I had to read
this one too.

Speaker 2 (22:32):
Aaron from Mallard Creek says Daniel Jones is closer to
Jalen Hurts than Jalen Hurts is to Cam. It's no debate.
Oh stop it. I'm just reading the text, man, stop.
I'm just reading the text. All right, there's a lot
of texts coming in. I'm just reading. I can't say
anything though.

Speaker 4 (22:44):
He's gonna start an indy so yeah, yeah, he's probably yeah,
maybe cow in the world.

Speaker 3 (22:51):
Whatdy Richardson apparently is healthy?

Speaker 5 (22:52):
Someone joke tweet is like one practice of Daniel Jones
and already saying Anthony Richardson, he's healthy enough.

Speaker 2 (22:59):
All right, you're ready. This is the comparison Jalen Hurts
Cam Newton.

Speaker 3 (23:02):
Here we go.

Speaker 2 (23:03):
Cam Newton play has played just under double the amount
of career games that Jalen Hurts has. Put a different way,
Jalen Hurts has played just over half the games that
Cam Newton did in his ten year NFL career. But
he's off too a great start. Now he's not on
pace to match most of Cam's numbers. From being honest
about it, you know, in one hundred and forty eight
career games. Cam Newton has thirty two, three hundred and

(23:26):
eighty two passing yards in roughly half the number of
games Jalen Hurts has fourteen thousand and six to sixty seven.
So you know, Jalen Hurts is behind Cam's pace in
terms of overall career passing yards. Same thing for touchdown passes.
Cam had one hundred and ninety four career touchdown passes.
Jalen Hurts has eighty five so far, right, so you
know he is not on pace to match Cam in
career passing touchdowns. Jalen Hurts has a significantly better career

(23:51):
completion percentage than Cam Newton does. Jalen Hurts has a
sixty four point four percent completion percentage for his career.
Cam's at fiftyfty nine point nine percent. Different eras different offenses,
but still the numbers are the numbers. Cam has a
twenty five hundred yard advantage in career rushing yards.

Speaker 3 (24:12):
That's something that Jalen Hurts probably catches.

Speaker 2 (24:14):
I think, you know, if he stays healthy, right, that's
an area where I think Jalen is ahead of the pace,
and so in rushing touchdowns too. Like, Cam has seventy
five career rushing touchdowns, Jalen Hurts already has fifty five.

Speaker 3 (24:26):
All right, that's gonna have to come up a massive asterisk. Okay,
go ahead and make your point. Push Push has accounted
for how many of those rushings? Don't know?

Speaker 2 (24:33):
You tell me a lot more? Oh no, no, I
need a number, do you know?

Speaker 3 (24:37):
I don't. I don't know, but I know.

Speaker 5 (24:39):
Okay, it's it's way more like this would not be
a conversation if it wasn't for tous Push.

Speaker 3 (24:45):
Okay, I'll be frank.

Speaker 5 (24:47):
Cam Newton had a seventy yard touchdown rushing touchdown in
twenty twelve against the Falcons. I don't think Jalen Hurts
is ever gonna do anything like that. So no, I'm like,
like I do. I'm never gonna put Jalen Hurts one
of a great I just scrambling quarterbacks list because of
this stupid tous Push.

Speaker 2 (25:03):
Okay, you know, listen, I'm not even arguing with you.
I just wanted to pull the numbers, and I've got them,
all right, you ready, or at least something close to accurate.
Jalen Hurts again has fifty five career rushing touchdowns of
those in apparently it again, I've just chat gpted this
all right, so I don't trust AI, but it's pretty
good at grabbing football numbers, so somebody can triple check
me on this.

Speaker 3 (25:24):
The answer I just.

Speaker 2 (25:25):
Got was that of those fifty five career touchdown runs
rushing touchdowns rather at least thirty three of them came
from one yard situations.

Speaker 3 (25:35):
Thank you very much.

Speaker 2 (25:36):
Now, So Smoke's right, Like I wanted to get the
answer before I just co signed that. But if this
is true, that means over sixty percent of his rushing
touchdowns were scored from one yard and in Philly.

Speaker 3 (25:49):
That's the toush push, right.

Speaker 2 (25:51):
So from twenty twenty two to twenty twenty four, Jalen
Hurts sixty nine first downs nice one hundred and sixty
seven yards, twenty eight touchdowns on one hundred and twelve
one yard plays, many being the tush push attempts. So
that's specifically twenty two to twenty four.

Speaker 5 (26:11):
And I'll say Cam Newton he had quite a few
one yard rushing touchdowns, but no one was pussing his
toush so fair.

Speaker 2 (26:16):
So let's just say over half over half of Jalen
Hurt's rushing touchdowns have come from the Toush push, so smoke,
you're right about that congratulation.

Speaker 5 (26:25):
I'm gonna get pssed off when he passes Cam's rushing
touchdown mark because he's idiots from Philly.

Speaker 3 (26:30):
Yeah, oh my god, Like he's the third.

Speaker 5 (26:33):
He's not even the second best scrambling quarterback that team's had.
Donovan McNabb is a better scrambling quarterback than he. What
is all right? I'm not saying he's bad, but like,
of course Randall's always going to be number one in
my opinion.

Speaker 3 (26:44):
Heck, I don't.

Speaker 5 (26:45):
Actually, Michael was not a scrambling quarterback when he's in Philly.
But the point stands, he's not even the second best
scrambling quarterback in Philadelphia Eagles history.

Speaker 3 (26:52):
And the fact that those.

Speaker 5 (26:53):
That fan base, specifically that annoying fan base, is going
to treat him like a god when he passes that
mark is going to annoy Wait the crap out of me.
Because he's a good player. I think he's a top
ten player. But the fact that those people are going
to rewrite history by saying he's better than Cam Newton
makes me sick.

Speaker 3 (27:11):
We can't tell. We definitely didn't know. We had no idea.

Speaker 2 (27:14):
We thought you were riding the fence a little bit there. No,
but seriously, like, yes, to me, Cam is the better quarterback. Okay,
Philly fans, I'm sure would want to fight me. They
do in Philly. Nate, if he's not currently incarcerated somewhere,
probably's cussing me out somewhere, you know, in his car
right now. I'm not sorry at all, but like Cam
is a better quarterback.

Speaker 3 (27:33):
He just is.

Speaker 2 (27:34):
Jalen plays for a better football team. And that's in
large part because you know, Howie Rose has done a
great job up there. I'm sorry, how kid, Lord Howi
Roseman has done a great job up there. So like
they've built an incredible roster around Jalen Hurts, they just
have Wait, who did you say Rose at first? Yeah, tremendous.
What can he not do?

Speaker 3 (27:52):
Well? I don't think he'd beat the best on handshake agreements?

Speaker 2 (27:56):
Oh okay, I mean get it, No, I do, I do,
But like you're yeah, okay, whatever, man, I thought it
was pretty good.

Speaker 3 (28:07):
I don't know. Flounder, you're the Mets fan. Did you
think it was good?

Speaker 1 (28:09):
No?

Speaker 3 (28:09):
You didn't think so not really? Okay? Oh?

Speaker 5 (28:11):
I actually, my bet I got a mixed up with
Howie Mandel. I didn't know where. Yeah, I didn't know
where it was going. I was like, is there a
story about how he rose that?

Speaker 4 (28:21):
I don't know?

Speaker 3 (28:22):
I bet I got my Howies mixed up? Don't I
don't know. Come I don't smoke. Come on, man. Richie
just said, KB, w tf are you doing? Brother?

Speaker 2 (28:30):
I asked myself that every day, every single day of
the week.

Speaker 3 (28:32):
I don't.

Speaker 2 (28:33):
I mean, trust me, nobody's having that internal monologue more
than me. Wtf am I doing?

Speaker 3 (28:38):
I don't know. I'll think about it again tonight when
I get home.

Speaker 5 (28:40):
I'm asking myself that right now after the venomie or
the stupidity I just spewed out on the airways.

Speaker 2 (28:46):
Well, Richie, okay, So Richie just said, shouldn't we be
comparing Ryan Clark to Cam? That's where the beef is. No, Richie,
that's not even a discussion. Yeah, come on, that's not
even a discussion. It's not like Ryan Clark was part
of a Super Bowl team. Cam took a team to
the Super Bowl. He made a Pro Bowl one time. Dude,
you're talking about a guy that won MVP. Sure, come on, man,

(29:07):
he said, ry On, no compare, he said, Ryan flashed
his creds at Camp. Yeah, but he did so on
behalf of Jalen Hurts. Because Jalen Hurts now has a ring.
You see what I'm saying. Come on, Richie, keep up
with us, man, keep up seven oh four, five, seven
ninety six ten, Hit us up. Bryan says, I do.
We had eighteen passing touchdowns last year. That's not good
or impressive. Okay, all right, uh yeah, anyway, like I

(29:34):
want to get into something, but we don't have the time. Well,
we'll try to get back to it as much as
we can, but right now we go to smoke on
the headlines.

Speaker 3 (29:44):
All right, Kyle.

Speaker 5 (29:45):
Not the best day to be a Braves fan, as
they got slacked by the San Francisco Giants by final
score of nine to three. Spencer Strider only got five
innings of work done, but when the bullpen came in everything,
what the hell in the hand basket. Rafael Devers has

(30:05):
had a dominant day. Two home runs for him today
across the majors. I can't believe I'm saying this, but
the Colorado Rockies are blowing out a team in twenty
twenty five.

Speaker 3 (30:15):
It's happening. Yeah, yeah, they're actually just got done.

Speaker 5 (30:18):
Six nothing over the Saint Louis Cardinals, Astros two to
one over the Diamondbacks. The Milwaukee Brewers have put it
on the Mariners ten to two in the eighth fenning.
Milwaukee the hottest team in baseball right now and a
pitcher's duel right now in La between d Twins and
the Dodgers. Do want't let you know. Shoheo Tani has
hit a game hit a home run for a fifth

(30:39):
straight game, tying his largest mark. Greatest baseball player I've
ever seen.

Speaker 2 (30:46):
I don't think that's hyperbole too. No, he's not my
favorite player to watch, but he's he's the best. He's
the greatest baseball player that I've ever seen in my
own saying.

Speaker 4 (30:54):
But I will say, which part that he's not your
favorite player at all, especially with the pitching angle.

Speaker 2 (31:00):
Knows the answer to this. Mookie Betts is my favorite
player to watch. I watching Mookie Bets play baseball just
makes me happy because I love five tool guys who
can play different positions, who do it at a high level.
That's why the Rafael Devers thing pissed me off so
much a couple of months ago. Like, hey, buddy, you
got a three hundred million dollar contract. You get to
play baseball for a living. They're asking you to play

(31:21):
a different position to help your team, and you can't
be bothered to do it. And here's Mookie Betts playing
any position that he's asked to play at the highest
level that he can possibly play it. So I I
just love Mookie. So yeah, I mean he's my favorite.

Speaker 3 (31:34):
You're welcome.

Speaker 2 (31:35):
Yeah, I know, sorry, but I know it hurts smokes
feelings every time I bring it up.

Speaker 5 (31:38):
But tear downs and Alex Verdugo got in a return
with Key k Hernandez were god stupid.

Speaker 2 (31:43):
Trade Jack said that, he said, greatest You've ever seen.
You didn't see Ken Griffy Junior play King Griffy Jr.
Has the greatest swing I've ever seen. Behind He's not
he's not, but but you know, the kid played center
field as well as anybody. But no, he's not the
greatest baseball player I've ever seen one of them. But

(32:04):
as show heo Tony, it just is all right, Well,
come back, we'll wrap up the show Sports Radio ninety
two seven WFNZ. So I've drawn the ire of Ken

(32:27):
Griffy Junior Nation on the text line, which I never
intended to do. Barry Bond's nation as well. I apologize
for nothing on that one. I acknowledge Barry Bond's greatness.
I'm also a Dodger fan, so I am legally obligated
to hate that man with the fire of a thousand suns.
I will occasionally pull back the curtain and let you
know that I do think he's the greatest hitter of
all time. But aside from that, not saying nice things

(32:49):
about Barry Bonds, do I stand by my show. Hey,
O Tani comment the Bagel guy who called me a
Dodger homer. He said, Otani does not play defense. Griffy
was pure five tool yet, but he's one of the
greatest sluggers, and he's a cy young caliber pitcher, something
we've not seen done since Babe Ruth argue with a
wall bagel guy, I'm not even all that emotionally attached

(33:10):
to show. Heyo Tani, all right, this isn't like some
childhood affection I've got for the guy. I'm just acknowledging
greatness that we've not seen since shortly after World War One,
Big guy, that's how long it's been. Anyway, Colin Hauger
did some some numbers crunching on the whole Cam Newton
versus Jalen Hurts debate. If you missed it, I don't
have enough time to catch you up on all of it.
But Ryan Clark Cam Newton, they're feuding over Cam's quarterback list.

(33:34):
I guess I am catching you up. And then it
turned into a ring debate. Then it turned into who's
better Cam or Jalen Hurts. The rushing touchdown thing is
interesting because Cam had seventy five career rushing touchdowns. Jalen
Hurts is behind the pace on Cam Newton on most stats,
certainly in the passing category, but in the rushing category
he is well ahead of Cam Newton's pace for career

(33:56):
rushing touchdowns. However, Smoke rightly declared an imediately that most
of them were because of the tush push. We didn't
fully appreciate the extent to which that was true until
Colin Hoggard, our director of research, got in his teeth
into this. Of Jalen Hurt's fifty five career rushing touchdowns
forty of them, forty of them came from three yards?

(34:17):
Are in three yards or fewer? I mean, that's got
tushpush written all over it.

Speaker 3 (34:21):
Smoke.

Speaker 2 (34:22):
So again, I acknowledge your instinct was like exactly right,
forty of his fifty five career rushing touchdowns inside the
three yard line.

Speaker 5 (34:30):
Never compare that man's scrambling abilities to Steve Young, Michael Vick,
or Cam Newton or even fran Tarkenton.

Speaker 3 (34:37):
Ever, never ever do that. I knew it would upset him. Oh,
it would upset him.

Speaker 5 (34:44):
And the thing is, Jalen Hurts is one of the
most likable guys in all the sports, and oh I
love him.

Speaker 3 (34:49):
Love it.

Speaker 5 (34:50):
Yes, Philly, Philly ruins everything, man, Philly ruins everything except
for the show.

Speaker 3 (34:56):
It's always funny, That's all I got. That's true.

Speaker 2 (35:00):
I can't think of it like other than going to
Philly for like an Army Navy game. I can't think
of any time in my life where I thought, you
know what, I really want to get back to Philly soon. Ever,
I've never said that to myself, Man, I gotta get
back to Philly soon. Never said it once in my life.
So take that for what it's worth. All right, seven
oh four, five, seven oh ninety six to ten. Hit
us up on the fan duel text line, we are
alive from ACC kickoff.

Speaker 3 (35:21):
This show has it's been fun.

Speaker 2 (35:22):
We started with Fran Brown at Syracuse and then Jeff
Bram at Louisville, you know, ghosted us.

Speaker 3 (35:27):
So you know that happened.

Speaker 2 (35:28):
We talked to Michael Strickland, the senior VP of football
for the ACC. That was a fun conversation. Tomorrow though,
real quick look at tomorrow's show, and I tell you
this understanding that more of what we just experienced could happen.
But according to the schedule, we're opening tomorrow's show with
Dabo Sweeney at three o'clock, so make sure to be

(35:51):
here for that. In fact, if you're a Clemson fan,
you may be treated to back to back interviews the
end of West and Walker with Cade Klubnick and their finals,
and then Dabo is scheduled to join me at three
o'clock to start the show. So Dabo, and then beyond that,
I have no idea. I have no idea. What's on
the scheduleh Eric McCain's gonna stop by. We had to

(36:11):
push him back tomorrow, so we have that going on. Well,
I will say with Dabo, I didn't know you were
not here last week. So he apparently admitted that he
got his Brian Kelly's mixed up when he was on vacation.

Speaker 3 (36:21):
I'm sorry what.

Speaker 5 (36:22):
Yeah, he was at a little he was at a
beach somewhere in Florida, and he was at a little
souvenir shop and he found that there was a concert
that said Brian Kelly.

Speaker 3 (36:30):
He's like, oh my gosh, Brian Kelly's a singer. I
did not know that. Who would have fuck it?

Speaker 5 (36:35):
And then he found out that the concert was not
for Brian Kelly, the head coach. It was for Brian
Kelly of Florida Georgia Line. He legitimately fought that Brian Kelly,
Notre da LSU head coach, was a singer into it
a concert.

Speaker 2 (36:48):
Wait, one of the dudes in Florida Georgia Line is
named Brian Kelly.

Speaker 5 (36:51):
Yeah k E L L E Y really yeah.

Speaker 3 (36:58):
Okay, so he got his Kelly's mixed up.

Speaker 5 (37:01):
Okay, Now it has in my head that I wonder
what Brian Kelly sounds like singing.

Speaker 3 (37:06):
That's a scary fault.

Speaker 2 (37:07):
Okay, all right, yeah, we'll we'll have to I don't
want to talk about that anymore. We had uh let's see,
uh six five numbers said, did we talk about you
and C leaving the ACC.

Speaker 3 (37:19):
We did not.

Speaker 2 (37:20):
There I saw there was a report that there's nothing
new about it. Steve Newmark, who we had hoped to
talk to a couple of weeks ago. We had that
all lined up, and then U and C stepped in
and was like, no, Steve's not talking anybody until he
takes the job.

Speaker 3 (37:33):
And I'm like, all right, fine, that's cool. Uh.

Speaker 2 (37:35):
But there's a report out there from inside Carolina, uh
that you know, Steve Newmark's tenure should be starting with
a bang, expected to leave for the the SEC. That's
not really stunning news, I don't think. I mean, obviously
it's it's seismic in terms of what it means for
college athletics, but we've been mulling that possibility for what
two years.

Speaker 5 (37:56):
Yeah, the only big, only shocking thing from that would
be that it's to the SEC and out to Big ten,
because that's what it's always felt like.

Speaker 3 (38:02):
It was a Big ten for North Carolina.

Speaker 2 (38:04):
I didn't think so did you really, I thought that,
like I knew it was on the table of their
academic reputation. But I've the SEC wants to gobble up
as much territory as it can, you know, finish out
the Southern states they want. They want into North Carolina.
The flagship school makes the most sense. And look at
the commitment that Carolina just made the football like, I don't, Yeah,

(38:26):
the SEC made the most sense to me.

Speaker 3 (38:28):
All Right, we're back tomorrow. We'll talk about it all.

Speaker 2 (38:30):
Then day three of the ACC kickoff, Carolina's here. Bill
Belichick will be in the building. I don't know what
that means for this show or anybody else's show, but
they'll be here. Dabo's swayny to kick off the show
tomorrow at three o'clock. Dabo's gonna stop by. I can't
wait for that. Eric McLain emack our Monday buddy on
the show, he's going to stop by, and I think
Brent Priye Virginia Tech as well. I'm sure there will

(38:50):
be more we will find out, but until then, for
Smoke Ludwig and Anthony Flounderpac Nod and Colin Haggard, I'm
Kyle Bailey.

Speaker 3 (38:57):
