Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the Kyle Bailey Show, powered by Victory Chevy Charlotte,
where every month is Truck Month. Victory Chevy Charlotte your
Silverado destination.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
Monday headlines Today Panthers and Texans Tomorrow preseason game number
two at one o'clock. Pregame at twelve, we got countdown
to kickoff. That's what we formerly call it. Myself and
Mac twelve noon. I hear Fitty is back and saddling
up along for the ride. It's only sixty minutes. Make
sure to give us a little bit of time tomorrow
noon to one. We'll get you set for the preseason action.
(00:45):
What a blessing, by the way, you as long as
you don't have anything huge planned, you can probably check
out the first forty minutes of the preseason game mid day,
you know, if you got the time, and then the
rest of the day is yours. If you're a Panthers fan,
I mean you could watch the whole thing if you
want to. I probably will watch a good majority of it.
It's my job, though, But if you're a Panthers fan,
you could probably just watch a couple of series of
(01:07):
the starters and then hit the Farmers Market walk the dog.
Get ready for your Saturday night festivities, whatever those may be.
Speaker 3 (01:14):
What are you doing tomorrow, by the way, watching the game?
Speaker 4 (01:17):
Watch that game, yeah, and then watching the race because
it's on Tomorrow night in Richmond.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
Yeah, the race is actually on tomorrow night. The game
is tomorrow day, which is something that I know I
screwed up a couple of times yesterday. So it's a
big day and we're asking for your Monday headlines today
seven oh four five, seven ninety six ten. And by
big day, I mean big day for those competing for
roster spots, not for you as fans. You know, a
preseason game, it's fun, but it's not a big day
(01:42):
for you. The real games don't start for a couple
of weeks. So tell us what you want to see.
Tell us what your Monday headlines today are. Seven oh
four five, seven ninety six ten. Emanating live from the
Chandler Volta Studio the Carolinas Personal Injury Lawyers. One call
that's all go to CV injury law dot com. Real
big shout out and real quick shout out to the
Charlotte Knights who had us out yesterday. Had a great
(02:05):
time broadcasting live. Girls in Sports night Women in Baseball.
Great celebration and we stuck around. Me and the family
stuck around for the game last night. Really good crowd,
a lot of great young athletes that were represented, female
athletes in particular, a lot of softball, a lot of
softball players, a lot of cheerleaders, women's basketball players. I
(02:25):
believe the Davidson Wildcats Ladies basketball squad was out there
last night celebrating too, So that was really fun to see.
It was a hot, humid night in Charlotte, and you know,
it felt like baseball weather. I was so inspired by
it all last night that I have fully come out
of softball retirement and will be participating in a men's
(02:46):
league doubleheader tonight in a location that will remain undisclosed
because I don't know that I'm ready for an audience
just yet, smoke.
Speaker 3 (02:54):
But I have been asked to.
Speaker 2 (02:57):
Come out tonight, and I was told specifically, Hey, our three,
four and five hitters are all out tonight. We could
use some help. And so I'm going out to play
not just one, but a doubleheader tonight. So I might
be limping into the Chandler Vault of studios tomorrow as
I joined Mac for the pregame show.
Speaker 3 (03:14):
I was going to say, do you have that like
muscle gun at your oh, the farra gun? Yeah, I
got one. I got one.
Speaker 4 (03:19):
I feel like you're gonna be using that a lot
this weekend while you're talking to Mac and watching Bryce Young.
Speaker 3 (03:23):
I might bring it with me tomorrow.
Speaker 5 (03:24):
You might.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
You might hear the hum of that thera gun in
the background during pregame tomorrow. Yeah, Mack, you know, I'm
really looking at the offensive line getting the break right. Hey, Mac,
you can you hit me right here in the trap
that we're going to break? And I need Mac to
hit me with a fair gun tomorrow during the during the.
Speaker 4 (03:38):
If that's the guy you want, but it's it's either
him or Fiddy, so I kind of get to circumstances
you're in.
Speaker 2 (03:43):
Yeah, well, you know it should be a bleep show
either way. I heard the conversation this morning. There are
still people who believe that Fiddy is going to turn
on the Carolina Panthers.
Speaker 3 (03:51):
I do believe he has disavowed the Cowboys. I believe.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
I think he did the thing that he did where
he he tried to do it and then he backed
out of it, in part because the Panthers sucked, but
also in part because there was some real loyalty there.
I think the cowboys he bonded over with was that
his dad, I believe, Yes, Okay, it's what I thought,
So I don't think that was easy for him. But
(04:16):
I do need to point out that our guy Fitty,
despite his updates about his shower activities and his bathroom
activities in general, he has been rocking a lot of
Panthers gear in.
Speaker 3 (04:25):
The hallways this week, last couple of weeks.
Speaker 2 (04:27):
Actually, I mean my man has invested some some real
scratch in a decent collection of Panthers gear. I've never
seen him rock Panthers gear before, and he's doing it
on the near daily right now.
Speaker 4 (04:37):
I will say I did notice him too, because I
came into our little side serto where we cut some
of this audio up. I go in there, he's in like,
he walks in behind me. I'm like, were you watching
highlights of the twenty nine week seventeen game against the Saints.
He's like, ah, that was me. I was kind of
ruminiscent about some of the games from the back end
of that year with Matt Moore. I'm like, really, something
(04:59):
I do not you.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
So you think he's trying to dive headfirst in and
revisit the history and get himself ready with the background
info and you know, just sort of immersing himself in
all things Panthers because that would make it feel real.
Speaker 4 (05:13):
Yeah, you know, he was talking about the Matt Moore
and how because he was according to him, he was
a fan during that time of the Panthers as d team.
Speaker 3 (05:20):
I'll put it like this.
Speaker 4 (05:22):
I'm not one hundred percent sold on him being a
Panthers fan, but I am sold on him disavowing the Cowboys.
Speaker 2 (05:30):
That makes sense, okay, because of why it's become easy
to disavow Jerry Jones and the Cowboys.
Speaker 4 (05:35):
Is that why it's just too much for him, you know,
too much to finally just put up with all this bs,
all the contracts.
Speaker 2 (05:40):
Is there really any better than being I mean, is
it really any better than being a Panthers fan?
Speaker 3 (05:44):
Right now?
Speaker 2 (05:45):
And they're gonna tell you, oh, we've been better than you. No,
we got that understood. But like your quote unquote America's team,
even though you're not really you're under the constant spotlight,
your owners completely content being in being relevant in the
news cycle. You know, as opposed to actually chasing Super
bowls like it is it really a better experience at
this point after thirty years of waiting for another one.
Speaker 4 (06:07):
I was gonna say Carolina has more playoff wins over
the last thirty years than Dallas, including two wins against Dallas,
and Dallas still has not made it to the NFC
Championship Game since winning their last Super Bowl. So you know,
Carolina has had a longer draft, and I know Dallas
has not outside of the Campo years, hasn't been straight
up booty juice for multiple years on enddy juice indeed,
(06:27):
But it's not really that much better. And plus you're
putting yourself in a bad position with generational talents, you
could be letting.
Speaker 3 (06:35):
Them go walk like so, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
I mean, listen again, if you're a Cowboys fan and
you heard me say that, no need to go apoplectic
and steer off the road. Nobody's saying the Panthers have
been better. But I noticed that a lot of you
are generally miserable by about week five of the season
pretty much every single year, not you know, not every year,
but most years Cowboys fans, at some point you reach
a level of misery where it's.
Speaker 3 (06:57):
Like, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
I mean, I don't expect you all to quit the Cowboys,
but is it really that crazy for Fitty to quit
the Cowboys and come back home to the hometown team.
Speaker 4 (07:05):
It's not. And outside of two thousand and seven, have
you guys been legitimate Super Bowl contenders? That was really
the only that in twenty fourteen were the only two
years where it's like, yeah, I can see them winning
a Super Bowl outside of that.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
Now, all right, speaking of contenders, let's talk about the
actual Panthers for a second, and some national media takes
on what's going on. It is interesting from our position here,
as the quote unquote local guys sitting in Charlotte talking
to fans here the Carolinas, you know, to watch the
national media. Many of them not only start to take notice,
but in the case of some of the insiders and
(07:38):
even some of the analysts, they're not at Panthers practice,
they're not at training camp. But word is starting to
get back to NFL headquarters, NFL Network headquarters, ESPN headquarters
that hey, the Panthers might be pretty good, at least offensively.
You know, Bryce Young and company might just be exciting
to watch this year offensively times Ben Sola ESPN. The
(08:01):
first that we're going to play for you to weigh
in on Bryce and his projection, what he's done and
what they think he can do.
Speaker 3 (08:08):
Is this real?
Speaker 6 (08:09):
Tedo McMillan. T mac is going to finish as a
top twenty receiver.
Speaker 5 (08:14):
Te Higgins and Devaud Smith are like top fifteen.
Speaker 7 (08:16):
Yeas, yeah, yeah, right, The twenty is probably too far
you can get.
Speaker 5 (08:20):
I think you can get me like thirty.
Speaker 7 (08:21):
Watching t mac get off the line of scrimmage, watching
him elevate for football, watch him play against NFL caliber
sized corners, it's very clear that he's going to be
able to be the caliber of ball winner, win the
contested catch, win the vertical one on one stuff like
that floor is there. The question with tmac was always
the ceiling, right as okay, what can be as a
rat runner, separator, middle of the field, but thing that
we need you to be good at in your one
You're gonna be good at that for sure.
Speaker 6 (08:42):
The traits that he flashed in this preseason game, body control,
the hands down the sideline are exactly why he was
the eighth overall pick.
Speaker 7 (08:53):
You can see how how good it will be for
Bryce who just to really the thing that unlocking for
Bryce was hey, just shoot, just fired.
Speaker 5 (08:59):
They're gonna be right, Just go go go.
Speaker 6 (09:01):
Seeing t mak reward him for throwing that ball on
the right sideline early on it, I was just like, Yes,
this is going to build the habits, the timing, that's
everything you wanted to see as a Panthers fan. So
I'm feeling good about this group because what I always
felt about tm mac was if he could be true
number one x receiver in this offense, everybody else slots
(09:21):
into their nice, nice spot, and then you're like, ooh,
I really like Suddenly I really like.
Speaker 5 (09:25):
This group as a whole.
Speaker 7 (09:26):
I strongly agree that the thing about this wide receiver
room that I love so much is that if you
can get that from t MAC, then everybody else makes sense.
And it's just it's the window. It'll make it work.
Speaker 2 (09:41):
Whoosh in the background, hush one after the hush. It
was very it was very weird, but it takes themselves.
I like what they said about the offer or the
rather the wide receiver room and about why they took
Teero McMillan right. This is their ex This is the
guy that if he works, if he fits, everybody else
falls into place. Everybody else slots into place in what
they do well. It's continuing with the love that this
(10:02):
wide receiver room is kidding. We played the Ocho Cinco
audio earlier today. Let's actually bring that back real quick
for the folks who might have missed it. Chad o
Cho Senko Nightcap with Shannon Sharp was talking about Bryce
Young's benching last year, how much had benefited him, and
then he pivoted back to his belief that Carolina's wide
receiver room is criminally underrated.
Speaker 8 (10:22):
I think that benching was probably the best thing for him. Yeah,
I think that benching was the best thing for him.
Being bench can be a wake up call to things
that happened. Either can fold under the pressure or you
can ride to the pop. Only two things gonna happen,
and he did just that. He rolled to the top.
He came back from that bench and played extremely well.
He did extremely well. I'm like, well, what.
Speaker 5 (10:44):
Carolina Panthers team is this.
Speaker 8 (10:47):
I think they have one of the most underrated receiving
cores in the NFL, and I'm willing to bet whatever
on him.
Speaker 1 (10:53):
This year.
Speaker 8 (10:54):
Whatever they gonna be, all right, Jimmy Horn, Deelan Brother, Leggett, Yeah, man.
Speaker 3 (11:01):
Come on at all right.
Speaker 2 (11:03):
So he's a fan that's not new by the way,
He's been on this for at least several weeks since
I can recall. So he's another one, all right. And
it's nice to hear the former NFL guys at that
position say, hey, they got some dudes inside that room.
That's validating Albert Breer. This is another interesting national media
take on the Panthers. Albert Breer, he's still MMQB right.
(11:23):
I think Breer' is still with s I MMQB Okay.
So Albert Breer was on his podcast and was talking
about the Panthers and what he's hearing about how much
Bryce Young has grown with the Panthers offense heading into
year three.
Speaker 9 (11:35):
Bryce Young is in a really good place going into
his third year now, and trensh As the quarterback, went
through the benching last year. The rapport between him and
the coaching staff, between him and Dave Canals, between him
and the OC brid Isaac has gotten to a point
now where they're comfortable putting him in front of the
room with the other players and letting him teach concepts
(11:56):
and letting him tell the player the other players what
he likes, and then they're at the point where they
feel like he can push back on them a little
bit like where he's comfortable. Now if there's something that
hey like within this concept, like this a little bit
more like than I like that, he's able to give
them some pushback. And so the communication both between the
quarterback and the coaches and within the offensive line in
(12:20):
a really good place right now. And communication, of course
a huge tenet of what Dave Canalis.
Speaker 1 (12:25):
Is looking to build in Carolina.
Speaker 5 (12:27):
So good signs there, all.
Speaker 2 (12:29):
Right now, that sounds great, right. I love the sound
of that, and you hope that it's all true, obviously.
But my first thought upon hearing Albert Breer say that
earlier today Smoke was didn't we hear something about Frank
Reich and company putting Bryce up in front of the
room at Wawford. Didn't we hear something like that? They
even had it on video for the training camp video.
(12:50):
That's what I thought, So Like, not to be cynical,
but I was like, that sounds great, but hold on,
I think I've heard that before.
Speaker 3 (12:57):
Oh yeah, that's right.
Speaker 2 (12:59):
Frank Reich can come, and they were like, we trust
him with the concepts, we can put him up in
front of the room and he can he can talk
about him and tell everybody else what to do. Well,
that's great, it's good, and I do believe it more
now than I did then. But I don't want to
go crazy with oh my god, can you believe that?
Because we've actually heard a coach kind of say something similar.
Speaker 4 (13:13):
And then we saw how much he struggled with the
twenty thousand concepts that he had to learn between frank
Reich and Thomas Brown during that one his rookie year, which.
Speaker 2 (13:22):
Makes you wonder how you know there could have been
so many given how vanilla that offense was. Remember the
word vanilla and how infuriating that was during that preseason.
Speaker 3 (13:30):
Look at you, Michael bardi Ye.
Speaker 2 (13:32):
All right, last thing real quick, in case you missed him.
Yesterday about this time, Sean Salisbury, former NFL quarterback, ESPN
personality and longtime morning drive host in Houston, he was
there for joint practice yesterday, said he sees a whole
lot of Drew Brees and Bryce Young.
Speaker 10 (13:46):
Tell you, I'm so tired of a nationally turn on
your show, the National and at times it's local too,
in all of our cities. The narrative of too small,
not a strong arm, and well they didn't win a
lot of games. Well that's the team that's been building,
so let's slow our role. They haven't exactly been overloaded
with a talented roster since he's been there. Secondly, you
(14:08):
know all those comments that they're making, you know who
it sounds like. And I'm not comparing them once in
the you know, a Hall of Fame career. The others
is wants to have one is Drew Brees. He's got
to have a strong arm. You know, he's got surgery
on his arm. He doesn't move great, he's really good
in the pocket. And Bryce has got good feat but small.
(14:28):
Can he take a hit?
Speaker 5 (14:29):
Arms?
Speaker 10 (14:30):
Not very strong, but guess what throws it on time
to the right guy and understands covered. I think he's
a football savant when it comes to the football. IQ.
Speaker 3 (14:39):
Football savant when it comes to the football. IQ.
Speaker 2 (14:42):
I mean again, I wanted to play all these clips
because people have high opinions of Bryce. Not everybody. Not
everybody feels the same way. There are a variety of
opinions not just about Bryce but about this team. Smoke
told me earlier, for instance, that Mike Clay has them
with the twenty eighth ranked running back room in the NFL,
which is kind of wild.
Speaker 3 (15:00):
They don't even need to be top ten to me,
but twenty eight, twenty eight kind of it's very wild.
Twenty eight, Like.
Speaker 2 (15:05):
I saw some I thought there was a ranking like yesterday,
they didn't have their offensive line in, like the top
fifteen or something.
Speaker 4 (15:11):
That was probably his Uh well actually wasn't, because this
got released this morning. He has the offensive line ranking
for the Panthers at nineteen.
Speaker 2 (15:19):
Okay, okay, well whatever, man like I don't, I'm not again,
I'm not telling you the top three, but nineteen that
they were better than nineteen last year and they're all back,
So why make that makes sense? Not telling you top three,
but they were much better than nineteen last year and
they're all backs.
Speaker 3 (15:35):
To make that makes sense. Here's a funny thing too.
Speaker 4 (15:37):
The tight end rankings technically headed to a running back
rankings for Carolina by one spot.
Speaker 3 (15:41):
That's wild. That's wild.
Speaker 2 (15:43):
Let me squeeze in a phone called Chip wants to
talk Panthers. Chip, I appreciate you brother, what's going on?
Speaker 11 (15:48):
Hey man? I was never really a Brice fan. However,
I was at the game last year when they played
Tampa and they didn't win the game, but he played
his ass off and he he wasn't I mean, he
didn't lose the game. And not only that, he was
(16:11):
the last one to leave the field, and I mean
he made sure that he shook everybody hand on on
the field. And you know, I that that made me
a believer. You know, I think that the young man is,
you know, he he could be a great leader, and
(16:36):
I believe that he's got something to prove.
Speaker 2 (16:39):
I think he's won the respect of the building, and
I think he's he's slowly, you know, winning the respect
of the rest of the league.
Speaker 3 (16:45):
Would you agree with that?
Speaker 11 (16:47):
I agree on And I think that he is. That
changed my opinion about that young man.
Speaker 2 (16:54):
Yeah, thank you, Chip. Have a great weekend, buddy. I
appreciate that very much.
Speaker 1 (16:58):
To me.
Speaker 2 (16:58):
It also goes back to his durability and the toughness,
and you know, the irony of that being the case
at his size, which was the biggest loudest knock against
him coming out of the NFL, are coming out of
college football, and before you send the text. We know
his overall record, he's got more to prove. We all
get it, we do. But to finish the season the
way that he did, you know, let's call it a
(17:18):
half dozen games where he played at a high level,
and then to come out and have the camp that
he's had so far, it's been really validating and reassuring.
Speaker 3 (17:27):
We'll come back.
Speaker 2 (17:28):
Nate Wimberley, WBTV, longtime sports director sports anchor, back in
studio next Sports Radio ninety two to seven WFNZ Hustling
(17:50):
on a Friday Sports Radio ninety two seven wfn ZKB
Smoke and Nate Wimberley WBTV Sports Director Sports anchor. My
man is fresh off the television set your TV's. He
has loosened the tie just a little bit. Is that
a double windsor what is that?
Speaker 5 (18:07):
Not?
Speaker 3 (18:07):
Right?
Speaker 1 (18:08):
Is it?
Speaker 2 (18:09):
I don't know how to tie one of those. I
can do like a single one. It looks fine, but
like I never could figure out the double windsor.
Speaker 1 (18:15):
It took me a while, but I've mastered it.
Speaker 2 (18:17):
But it's also something that you can't work in TV
if you don't know how to tie the double windsor.
Speaker 1 (18:21):
Right for a while. I was just doing the single. Really,
I'm getting away with it, but you know it looks
a little bit better.
Speaker 2 (18:26):
Oh okay, you just thought it looked a little better.
Did you have to practice hard at it?
Speaker 5 (18:30):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (18:30):
Really?
Speaker 1 (18:31):
But once you get you got it. Okay.
Speaker 3 (18:34):
I'm sure there's a YouTube video, but I could pull up.
Was it really?
Speaker 1 (18:37):
Absolutely?
Speaker 3 (18:38):
Okay? That's pretty cool. Right, well, it's good to have
you back in. Are you were?
Speaker 2 (18:41):
You're not going to go suit it and boot it
out to the high school football jamboree tonight?
Speaker 1 (18:44):
You want to go ahead and throw some shorts on
because it's hot, put on a put on a polo,
and on my head out to East Lincoln, West Lincoln,
East Ruther for North Lincoln, Corvian Lincolnton Bandy's, East Lincoln
Northwest Combaris. I'm coming to see you guys tonight, all
of them. It's you know, it's a jam as everybody
gets an hour on the field. So I'm I don't
think I'm gonna get out there in town for West
(19:05):
Lincoln East Ruther before they started five thirty. I don't
think I'm gonna get down. I really wanted to because
East Ruther is gonna be a team to watch this year.
They had the big upset in the second round of
the playoffs against uh uh Reidsville went up to Reidsville
and knocked them out and put them out the playoffs.
Top seed gone so and they got a lot of
those guys back. So shout out to the East Ruther Cavaliers.
They're gonna be one of the teams to watch this year.
Speaker 5 (19:24):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (19:24):
All right, So have you have you fully wrapped your
head around the eight classifications and who's where and who's doing.
Speaker 1 (19:29):
Watch a little. We had our previous show on Wednesday
went through all of that, and I actually, you know,
the more you think about it, the more I like it.
I mean, like a lot of teams that didn't have
shot at state championships, they're gonna have them. And they've
redrawn a lot of all the conferences basically UH and
some conferences are tough and some are just wide open,
and a lot of teams have a chance to win.
And when you got that chance to win, that that
(19:51):
hope you're gonna work extra hard. So it's an exciting time.
I'm actually loving it. And the fact that the only
way is in North Carolina. North kilind of public schools.
The only way you determine a playoff team is with
your RPI. So you're rewarded for playing tough teams. Uh,
just because you want a conference championship, that doesn't mean
you're gonna make the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (20:12):
Your RPI has to be good. So, Uh, there's asa
By the way, what's the formula? Who is there a committee?
Is there a formula? What's no? No, No, It's all RPI.
So it's calculated on max preps.
Speaker 1 (20:22):
It's forty percent of your win percentage, forty percentage of
forty percent of your opponent's winning percentage, and twenty percent
of the opponent's opponents winning percentage. So this is encouraging
strong scheduling, and we see that in Week one. There's
a bunch of great games in Week one. Uh, Independence, Gaffee,
north Western Spartan Bird that's in South Carolina, Maiden, lincoltn Lewisville,
(20:45):
Central Pagelin that's in South Carolina, Shelby, King's Mountain, Hickory,
South Point, Belmont, Roseville, Mella Creek. And of course, what's
going on at the Bank of America Stadium next Friday
where the keep pounting Classic Huff versus South Point and
Grimsley the number one team is seven eight versus West
Charlotte the number one team at eight.
Speaker 2 (21:05):
And by the way, I'll be on the call for
those games next Friday night with JJ Jansen. Got to
get that plug in for the Keep Pounding Classic. We
are so thrilled to bring the Keep Pounding Classic to
WF and Z where we think it belongs quite frankly,
and we appreciate the folks over there at Teper Sports
and Entertainment for agreeing with us and not to go
off on a soapbox here. But I'm a radio guy
at heart. I love doing TV with you know the
(21:26):
things that I do, and I love all that stuff,
but I came up a radio guy. There's nothing like
high school football on the radio on Friday nights, and
I think a lot of folks in our industry have
forgotten that over the years. And I just am so
excited to bring these games to the airwaves next Friday nights.
Speaker 1 (21:40):
Who absolutely fantastic games. Both of them are gonna be great.
Huff's South Point rock Hill is kind of a forgotten one,
but Mandy amount a d one talent that you're gonna
see out there. Defensive back Samari Matthews from Huff going
to Texas. Huff is breaking in a new quarterback by
Ethan Royal. He's gonna be a new quarter He's been
sitting and waiting behind Trey Blakeney. He's ready to take
his step up. And South South South Point's got two
(22:02):
guys going to South Carolina, Jeesevian Currance and Anthony Baxter.
They got a big quarterback in Camick Milling. So there's
gonna be a lot of talent. And I'm gonna tell
you this, it's gonna be a lot of scoring. So
you know, get ready to be calling a law school.
In that second game, Grimsley West Charlotte man Brandon face
On one to Tennessee and West Charlotte's quarterback Jamoury Nichols.
(22:26):
His stats almost matched up with Brandon Facon last year.
He was a sophomore. He's back at quarterback. They got
Katie Cotton's going to do all it just does. He's
an athlete. He does everything on both defense and offense.
It's gonna be a great Friday of football next Friday
night at Bank of America State.
Speaker 2 (22:43):
I can't wait, all right, so again, we've got that
coming up next Friday night to keep pounding classic. You know, again,
myself JJ Janssen. The double header, we'll have the pregame
kind of coverage, you know, we'll kind of do this
show from three to four next Friday. But from that
point forward, a double header of high school football right
here on Sports Radio ninety two in wfn Z.
Speaker 3 (23:01):
So let's get to the Panthers real quick. Down at Houston.
Speaker 2 (23:04):
Actually, you and I haven't talked since last Friday, and
you were inside the stadium when you did, so let's
start there. You know, Shador Sanders was the biggest story
coming out of the game, and I think he deserved
a lot of the attention. I was a little bit
perturbed because I thought maybe some of the wider football
world should have been also, like, hey, by the way,
Bryce looked good, you know, and the offense look good.
But either way, the starters I think got the job done.
(23:25):
After that, it wasn't the prettiest for Carolina.
Speaker 1 (23:28):
Yeah, the second and third defense, boy, they've got to
show up this weekend. I mean completely, all the defense
needs to show up this weekend. And that's why I said,
when you asked me the question, would you rather see
Bryce and offense go down here and you know work
do their work. Oh, the defense come out. That's why
I picked the defense for this team to take that
next step. And we ain't talking about playoffs. We're talking
about just being better. Seven eight wins. The defense has
(23:52):
got to step up, and you know, and second and
third units are going to have to really play well
because a lot of those guys are gonna be playing
for this defense this year. So that's what I'm watching
once again this weekend is the defense. It's like, can
you guys and some of you rookies, it's time to
show improve It's trying to step up. You know, you
got one week under your belt, all the nerves, all
(24:12):
the jitters, if this's your first time in the system,
if your vet, all of that is done. It's time
to get out there and show improved defensively. Nobody. I'm
not worried about the offense at all. You know, they
can sit them down. I don't worry about that. I'm
not worried about that at all. That defense has gotten
to show that they can play better. And if Houston
decides to run the ball, because Cleveland didn't even try
to really run the ball. They would just showcase this door. Yeah,
(24:34):
Houston's gonna run the ball. Stop to run. Please, I
would love to see it. And apparently the Panthers defense
had had a good day. Yeah, doing that yesterday down
in Houston. Now, most of us weren't there to see it.
We had some folks on that were, but reports out
of joint practice yesterday were that not only did they
have a good day, there was apparently a moment where CJ.
Stroud was really upset because they couldn't run the football.
(24:54):
And yeah, that's awesome.
Speaker 2 (24:56):
Give me more of that, because after what we sat
through last year, I need some drives where you're stopping
the run, Like I need you to get a couple
of stops on third down and four this year.
Speaker 1 (25:04):
Please absolutely. And you know that's the thing. Those are
the things that I'm gonna be watching for primarily defense.
You know, offense, that's just icing on the cake for me.
It's defense. It's all defense, and you've got to show
and prove now. And hopefully Darrick Brown plays tomorrow, we
get to see him out there. That will help that run,
that run defense. But you know the defense, defense, defense,
(25:25):
that's all we really need to see well.
Speaker 2 (25:28):
I think the backups especially need to show something and
uh and more so on the defense though, you would
like to see some backup offensive lineman move holes. I
don't know how much run Rico Doutele. You know we'll
get tomorrow, but we haven't heard a ton from him
in camp so far. You'd like to maybe know that
he's ready to roll, you know, guys like that. And
then of course the ongoing tight or wide receiver battle.
Speaker 1 (25:47):
From what I saw running running the wise last week,
they were running it. I mean they were running it
pretty well, but he just didn't commit to it. In
the first two series they thank you, especially the second
the second drive, it was like, yeah, we're gonna feed
this thing to you know, te Mac will show up
and you know with t Mac, when you're in the
end zone, you get your hands on the ball, please
catch it. I mean like I saw one in the
(26:09):
seven on seven and the joint practice in the seven
or seven he missed it. Then last Friday didn't get
out of his break quick enough and Bam, ghet them
in the hands and they'll get there. It's gonna take
a while for that kind of combination for Bryce to
see something and for Team Mac to see something, for
them to be on the boat on the same page
at the same time. It's gonna take a while, but
you know that needs to start connecting, so, you know,
(26:29):
but you know, run the ball a little bit more. Yeah,
I want to see them committed to running the ball
a little bit more than you know, we know what
Bryce can do. Yeah, let's you know, you talked about
running the ball a lot last year. You talked about
wanting to be physical this year, and teams are not
gonna want to play you. How do you do that?
You you rough them up in the run game, and
you maul them up front with the defensive line.
Speaker 2 (26:50):
Gotta start, by the way, you can't have a great
defense now or at any point in the future if
you cannot run the ball. Absolutely, And that also, I mean,
the schedule has been expanded to seventeen games, it's going
to eighteen. I mean, that's going to continue to be
the truth. And these have always been sort of conventional
truths in football. You need to be able to run
the ball and play defense. But I mean, you get
so many injuries throughout the course of the year. Defenses
(27:11):
get banged and battered up like you're not going to
be able to sustain anything defensively if you cannot run
the football.
Speaker 1 (27:16):
Absolutely, you got to control the clock. He's short in
the game. An imposure will beat up on somebody, make
them not worry about it by the third, middle of
the third, fourth corner life, dude, I'm I'm done. I'm
tired of this team beat people on me. And that's
how you do that. You run the ball and you
stop to run. Make them in Divisional.
Speaker 2 (27:33):
All right, before I let you get out of here.
Basketball news today that I wanted to touch on. Armando
Baycott is a Charlotte Hornet and I actually think he's
got a chance to make this roster given the the
lack of depth in the middle. And you know, we
were talking about his sit down with Shaquille O'Neil on
his on his podcast, and Shaq is like a huge
Armando Baycot fan, and you know, urging him to get
(27:54):
meaner and nastier and play more aggressively. And you look
at his G League numbers, I think he averaged like
eighteen and ten, eighteen and eleven. He slimmed down a
little bit, Like I'm not under no illusion that he's
going to turn into a you know, a top fifty
player of all time or anything. But I think there's
a chance for a world in which he makes the roster.
Speaker 1 (28:12):
This team has got a bunch of wings and guards,
not a lot power forward center.
Speaker 3 (28:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (28:19):
So yeah, I mean like why not try or not?
Why not see if you can get it? So, you know,
from what we saw in college, you know, grab some
rebounds being forced in the middle. I mean, like, why
can't he be?
Speaker 2 (28:31):
I also think he's a perfect fit for one of
the kind the kind of culture guy. Yeah, they're looking for,
you know what I mean, like a four year guy
Carolina dude that's having to earn his way back into
you know, the spotlight. He's hungry, he's motivated. It's clear
they want as many dudes like that inside the building
as possible.
Speaker 1 (28:47):
Perfect fit, perfect fit, And you know, can't he be
like a musta diabatte.
Speaker 3 (28:53):
Yeah I'm with you, Okay, So.
Speaker 2 (28:57):
You decid? I don't know what that sounds worst than
I thought. Hold on, wait a second, I smoke you
sent me this Baycott news. Are they saying that it's
Are they saying it's fake news? You sent me the
link damn it. If you duped me, you got it
from board it's reading. Yeah, they usually tweet out stuff
(29:17):
that they find.
Speaker 3 (29:18):
No, you better not be.
Speaker 2 (29:22):
If smoke my own producer duped me on the Baycott news. Oh,
I'm gonna be hot because I was kind of excited
about that.
Speaker 4 (29:32):
Smoky. You didn't okay, so keeping it? He'll posted an
article about it. And now it's a four o four error.
Speaker 2 (29:39):
Oh no, my own producer got me. I got got
to No, I got got from inside the house and
I got got myself from the internet. Our trust is
irreparably broken now twice today thinking that it was valid
and legitimate news, and now I've got egg all over
(29:59):
my face.
Speaker 1 (30:02):
Yeah, damn man, I was excited about that.
Speaker 2 (30:07):
Wants to back on out of this domestic You gotta
be kidding me, all right, Well, like I can't stay
mad at Smoky, but damn you smoking. They've they've they've
retracted the Baycot report. I think they have okay keeping it.
Heel says the report is false. This was as of
(30:29):
a little while ago. A very good source, though, stated
that he will be signing very soon with someone.
Speaker 3 (30:36):
Huh huh.
Speaker 2 (30:38):
Rev Rodd says that Walker reported reported it on the
Hornets Locked On podcast as well.
Speaker 11 (30:44):
See I was.
Speaker 2 (30:44):
Not the only one to get God, lets the guys
get gott in the internet age. I'm not mad at
you about that, but I mean, how many people got
got by the Baycot story.
Speaker 1 (30:52):
It would be a good signing. Put it that way,
it will be a good I wouldn't hate it. All right, Well,
what a way to end the week. All right, Nate,
good to see you, buddy, Good to see you, guys.
Speaker 2 (31:00):
We again, there you go. Let's go to smoke. If
he's reliable on the headlines, all right.
Speaker 4 (31:09):
If I'm wrong on this one, it's because I followed
a very good, reputable source. When it came to this,
Nada just said it's definitely fake. Does Walker have to
redo his entire Lockdown Hornets podcast?
Speaker 5 (31:20):
Now?
Speaker 1 (31:21):
Oh god, I might have better get him on the phone,
get him on the file.
Speaker 2 (31:28):
Let's sta let's go go ahead. I'm sorry, go ahead anyway.
I hate the internet.
Speaker 4 (31:34):
So we were wondering, why is Michigan trying to appeal
the ruling from d NC double today Nicole hour back.
Now she's wrong. I'm sorry, but she's one of the
best in the business. When it comes to reporting on
this type of stuff. But she says the reason why
is because of the massive amount of money they'd have
to pay with the fine. The previous record high for
nincuaa fine was Tennessee with their Jemmy Pruett situation.
Speaker 3 (31:56):
That was only eight million dollars.
Speaker 4 (31:59):
The fines would incumulate up to over thirty million dollars
for Michigan right now. So what they're essentially trying to
do is say, hey, let's lower to find a little
bit thirty million, considering that the record is only eight
million at this point. So that's essentially why you're doing it. Oh,
they just don't want to pay as much money. Well,
I mean that makes sense everything in life's negotiation. So actually, yeah,
(32:19):
especially when the previous record was like less than triple.
Speaker 3 (32:23):
It is triple.
Speaker 2 (32:24):
It it ain't no thirty Yeah, it ain't. It ain't that,
it's not even ten million. It's a fracture to that.
I'd fight it too if I was Michigan, if I'm
being honest, all right, what else you got?
Speaker 6 (32:34):
Uh?
Speaker 5 (32:34):
That's it?
Speaker 3 (32:34):
Because I don't want to get gott it. I don't
trust you anymore.
Speaker 2 (32:36):
Yeah, No, we'll come back and we're gonna wrap up
this stupid radio show Sports Radio ninety two to seven
wfn Z.
Speaker 5 (32:42):
Are mind do all right?
Speaker 2 (33:04):
So Smoke says he no longer trusts himself to pass
along any news today.
Speaker 3 (33:08):
He's on tilt.
Speaker 2 (33:09):
He's shaken right now because, like multiple people, he bought
the Armando baycot to the Hornet story, passed it along
to me. I've been regurgitating it like a dummy. Brian
in Mississippi says, Mack and Bone talked about it this
morning too. So apparently Mac and Bone did a segment
on it this morning, and our guy Walker Male talked
about it on the Locked On Hornets podcast today, So
(33:31):
our guy Nadas said that the news came from a
guy who's more wrong than right, which sounds accurate given
the way this is all transpired. But apparently there's been
a whole lot of content generated today based on a
completely fake news story. So I guess it's still possible
that it happens. Hornets Ron I think was the one
that sent that in. He said it might be real,
(33:51):
and then he sent me a screenshot. Oh it's the
same thing you sent me. Never mind, it was the
Hornet's Reddit tweet from earlier this morning. Oh, it's not real,
at least not as of right now. But if it
were real, I'd be in favor of it. I would
be happy about it if they gave Armando bay Cut
a shot.
Speaker 3 (34:08):
Are you okay? You look like you have like serious
indigestion right now.
Speaker 4 (34:12):
I feel like a pitcher that was up three nothing
going into the eight inning. It just gave up a
grand slam. So the Mets like the Mets. You feel
like the Mets. I wasn't gonna go a low blow
like that, but yeah, yeah, that's very apropos Yeah, given
how they've pitched this week, two of.
Speaker 2 (34:27):
Three numbers, says new Smoke segment Fake News Friday, that's
actually not a bad idea. We may have to tease
that one out. Maybe a fake News Friday segment with
Smoke Ludwig could be in the works after what went
down here today.
Speaker 4 (34:39):
Yeah, I heard apparently they're signing Marlon McCree Carolina to
add to her safety depth.
Speaker 2 (34:46):
Speaking of the NBA, I am off to Somebody asked
me earlier KB, who you playing with tonight and are
they any good? I've pulled to Kevin Durant, I have
joined the league defending champions in a men's softball league
north to the city, so they are absorbing me into
what is already a powerhouse men's softball team. They're missing
(35:07):
the heart of the order tonight, so they've requested my services.
But yeah, I have joined the reigning champs, so I'm
not here to be the core of a rebuild.
Speaker 3 (35:15):
I will say.
Speaker 4 (35:16):
So softball is different from baseball, but especially when you
were really going almost every single day or week. Yeah, well,
what baseball player would you compare yourself to hitting the ball? Yeah,
especially at the plate, like we talk like, you know,
like batting style, batting stance like that sort of.
Speaker 3 (35:33):
Thing, and how big your power is.
Speaker 2 (35:35):
I'm like I've always said, I'm a hybrid of Jeff
Bagwell and Gary Sheffield. A lot of bat noise, I'm
waggling that bad boy, you know, the stance gets wider
and wider throughout the game. Got a good strong base
and trying to get some lyft on the ball. So
a lot of bat noise, a lot of bat waggle,
and I'm looking to go deep every single time. So
you're definitely in early two thousands.
Speaker 4 (35:56):
So what do you think about the launch angle that
you're going to have to try to get what the exit?
Speaker 3 (36:01):
What do you make about that?
Speaker 2 (36:02):
And I'm just trying not to pull a hammy. Tonight
I've got a double header, and uh yeah, I just
I did the thing where I forgot to tell my
wife last night that I was playing softball tonight. So
I get to work and I'm like, hey, babe, I
didn't bring my stuff. I don't have my glove or
my turfs or really anything that I need to play softball,
(36:23):
So can you can you bring it to me and
meet me at the field, And oh, by the way,
bring the kids because I think they'd enjoy themselves. And
then I just broke it to her an hour ago
that it's actually a double header. So yeah, normally I
think i'd be in trouble, but I've got we got
family photos tomorrow and I haven't said a peep about it,
so I feel like this is the trade off. I
get to play a double header. She drags me out
(36:43):
into some you know, field of wildflowers for family photos
tomorrow night to sweat my nads off.
Speaker 3 (36:48):
So I'm looking forward to that. It's good song picking
wild flyers, But.
Speaker 2 (36:56):
Yeah, that went full Kevin Durant, I'm joining a team
of champions already h seven oz four or five seven
ninety six to ten hit us up. On the FanDuel
text line English, Paul said, great news, KB, great news.
I will be suiting up for Charlotte f C at
the week this weekend as their surprise new box to
box midfielder signing.
Speaker 4 (37:12):
Ha ha, very very very funny. That does you need
to give a shout out though? Speaking of charwd f C,
you know who demanded a match is going to be
Roman Harper, Your boy, Roman Harper. Yeah, he did a
really cool video set up for that is his What
is it on Twitter?
Speaker 3 (37:26):
Is it on FC Twitter?
Speaker 8 (37:27):
What is it?
Speaker 5 (37:27):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (37:27):
Shart FC tweeted it out about two three hours ago.
Speaker 2 (37:30):
Yeah, so if you're going to the match this weekend,
Roman Harper is the man of the match. And Charlotte
f C posted a video of Roman in his SEC
network studios doing a football breakdown that transitions into a
soccer breakdown. And so Roman's gonna be there in the
throne with the fancy crown on and you know, being celebrated,
and I guess what, they don't hoist him up in
(37:50):
the air that's kind of dangerous, right, so that would
be yeah, that would.
Speaker 3 (37:52):
Yeah, but like no, the thrones right beside the supporter sex.
Speaker 2 (37:56):
Right, So yeah, Roman Harper, if you're going to the
match this weekend, it's him. And if you want to
see a really cool video, it's over at the Charlotte
FC Twitter account if you want to check that out.
All right, we got to wrap this thing up again.
Appreciate everybody sending in their Monday headlines today their thoughts
on preseason game number two tomorrow. Don't forget we have
a pregame show tomorrow noon to one. Me and Mack
(38:17):
will be on the air for an hour tomorrow noon
to one from the studio. No doghouse tomorrow. It's a
road pregame show, so do not go to the doghouse tomorrow,
but tune in twelve to one pm tomorrow for countdown
to kickoff ahead of Panthers and Texans kickoff at one o'clock.

Speaker 4 (38:42):
Tip my cap to myself because at least I didn't
fall for a stupid AI video.
Speaker 2 (38:48):
Well got that going for me, I'll tip my cap
to my hamstrings. Please hold up tonight. We're back on Monday.
Looking forward to it. Until then, for smoke LUDBC. I'm
Kyle Bailey, Sports Radio ninety two to seven WFNZ.
Speaker 1 (39:00):
Gonna be dead in a one hundred years anyway, live dangerously
