Silverado destination.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
I got Teams creams potatoes to meet us, lamps freeze
Cheange creams potatoes to meet us.
Speaker 3 (00:27):
Chick Chuck his creak creams potatoes to meet us. Lamp
lamps change.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
Oh, it's the five o'clock anthem on Street. Turkey's Day.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
You know what.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
This is an annual tradition. This is the Home Stretch, folks,
and we are kicking ass and taking names. Sorry for
the if you got kids in the car for saying
a dirty word right there. But I'm fired up, and
it's all because of your your donations, your generosity. We
set a forty thousand dollars goal. That's the baseline. It's
where I wanted to get if we If we get
forty five fifty grand donations, that's great, but I'm always
(01:00):
happy if we get to forty grand and beyond.
Speaker 3 (01:03):
And we are closing in.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
As of the commercial break a minute ago, we are
at about thirty eight thousand dollars raise, probably more than
that right now, but it'll take a few minutes for
us to count the latest donations coming in. Once we
get that updated scoreboard, we'll bring it to you. But
it's the twenty third annual wfn Z Street Turkeys presented
by Ram Pavement taking beans, greens, potatoes, tomatoes, canned goods,
(01:26):
box goods, frozen turkeys. We're gon we're gonna take donations
not only of money, but tens of thousands of pounds
of food here in Uptown Charlotte, the corner of Minton
Moorhead at the WFNZ Doghouse, powered by Jack Daniels, and
we're gonna make a massive difference this holiday season, helping
defeat our neighbors and those in need throughout the community
here this holiday season and beyond. If you can make
(01:48):
a donation, help us tip the scales and get past
that forty thousand dollars threshold by texting your monetary donation
text Street Turkeys all one word to five zero one,
five to five. That is five zero one five five
and whatever you can give five ten dollars donations. I've
been telling you this all afternoon. I tell you every
single year, those donations will get us there. I realize
(02:10):
a lot of you are very charitable, and you're very
generous with your money, and you get hit up for
lots of things throughout the year.
Speaker 3 (02:16):
I understand this one's easy.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
I mean I need four hundred people to make a
five dollars donation. I need two hundred people to make
a ten dollars donation. All right, that's where we are.
I need one hundred people to make a twenty dollars
donation right now, and you will get us to the
forty thousand dollars mark in donations. We will get there
with an hour left to go in the show. We
just need you to help push us over the finish
(02:38):
line here on this Thanksgiving Eve real quick as we
get set to bring in Roman Harper. News breaking out
of Detroit that Frank Ragnow is coming back to play football.
The Lion's posting without comment and image of the longtime
center running out of the tunnel at Ford Field via
Ian Rappaport of the NFL Media. It is real. Frank
(02:59):
Ragnow is coming out of retirement. First round pick in
twenty eighteen. You know, they just they need some help.
Earlier this month, Dan Campbell said the ship had probably
sailed on that well, apparently the ship is sailed on
the ship sailing because Frank Ragnow is coming out of retirement,
which begs a fun question for the five o'clock audience.
If you could pluck one one athlete out of retirement
(03:20):
right now to come back to your favorite team, who
would it be?
Speaker 3 (03:24):
Seven oh four five seven ninety six ten?
Speaker 2 (03:26):
You could pluck one former athlete to come out of
retirement and play for your team? Who are you pulling
out of retirement to come back? Seven oh four five
seven oh ninety six ten? Hit me up on the
FanDuel text line and let me know. Roman Harper is
still in plenty good shape to play. I'm pretty sure
of that, though I'm positive he wants no part of
the NFL anymore. Roman Harper, two time pro Bowler, Super
(03:46):
Bowl champion, SEC Network analyst. Our friend is back with
us here on Thanksgiving Eve. What's going on?
Speaker 3 (03:52):
Brother? Happy Thanksgiving?
Speaker 1 (03:53):
Well it's k B. That's actually a good question you
bring up, like who would you bring back for some
of your favorite teams?
Speaker 3 (03:59):
Who would you do?
Speaker 1 (04:00):
That gives you a question, Well, are they do? They
have to be alive? Is it like?
Speaker 4 (04:04):
How far back? I think that's another thing I'd want
to know well.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
See if part of me is like, you know, let's
keep it within reason. You know, somebody who left the
game in the last ten years, because we don't even
we don't even bring it back. Dick buckus out of retirement,
right right, right, That's.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
What I'm saying, Like, you know, I wanted to see
somebody like Wilt Chamblain because I'm too young.
Speaker 4 (04:22):
I've never seen this guy, you know what I mean, Like,
could I do that for my Lakers?
Speaker 1 (04:26):
You know? But I I agree that's a good question.
I do have to think about it. I don't know
anybody right now off the top of my head.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
You know Smoke Do you know that Smoke is a
conspiracy theorist. He does not believe in Wilt Chamberlain's hundred
point game. He doesn't believe it happened.
Speaker 4 (04:40):
Come boards, you got to stop that. It's the sports
conspiracy people.
Speaker 1 (04:45):
Stop it.
Speaker 4 (04:46):
It's already enough with the other stuff conspiracy. Now you're
bringing conspiracy doings into sports now, I mean, next thing,
you know, you talking about the You know, I'm not
even going down that rabbit hole.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
It's okay, let's go okay, all right, Well, it's good
to have you back. I First of all, what's the
big Harper family Thanksgiving tradition? Are you like pure traditionalist turkey, ham,
cranberry sauce?
Speaker 3 (05:08):
Do you mix it up? What do you do?
Speaker 1 (05:10):
Yeah? I think we're pretty much kind of traditionalist. I
don't think we do anything crazy. I'm a bigger of
a ham guy than I am turkey. My wife makes
great collar greens and I also love macarnin. She those
are like my must halves. She won't let me have
fried pork chops, which if I can break any tradition,
that's what I would do. I would make fried pork
(05:31):
chops a Thanksgiving thing because ultimately it's really just about
eating the food. Everybody loves all these other things, and
you know we're supposed to be thankful.
Speaker 4 (05:39):
Well, I'd be thankful to have my favorite meal with
the fried port chop.
Speaker 1 (05:43):
So if I could bring that aloan to Ham, I'd
be really happy. And then I got to finish off
with sweet State of Pie because my mom has taught
my wife how to make them, and maybe she kind
of mastered it, but it is great. So that's my
other thing.
Speaker 3 (05:58):
Phenomenal. I love it all.
Speaker 2 (06:00):
Right, Let's talk a little college football here before we
do anything else. It's rivalry weekend in college football. I
get sad for this weekend, even though it's arguably, you know,
it's certainly one of the two best weekends of the year,
but it also means college football's regular season is coming
to a close. So big games, big rivalries, but it
means it's almost over. How are you feeling about the
Iron Bowl this year? Obviously Alabama's the much better football team,
(06:22):
but it's still the Iron Bowl.
Speaker 1 (06:24):
Number one is almost it's almost over for a teams
unless you didn't go to bowl games. So from good teams,
you still got a chance.
Speaker 3 (06:31):
That's true.
Speaker 4 (06:31):
I remember when bowl games.
Speaker 1 (06:32):
Actually used to matter, Like we were excited or fired
up to go get some more practice time in with
the team you're with and then go out there and
try and get some bull swag and go win a
bowl game. But I'm gonna get off my soapbox, not
gonna be that guy today. But to the Iron Bowl, Kyle,
I'm fired up for it. I think it's a great opportunity, foul,
but I'm gonna go out there to you know, supplant
(06:54):
themselves and say, no, we are in the college football
playoffs because we got there and win the game, and
then you get into the SEC championship. I like their
champions and all of those things. And to be honest
with you, Auburn hasn't been that good all year. They
did look good versus Vanderbilt. They put up some day,
finally found a way to have some offense, to sustained
(07:16):
offense under Ashton Daniels, a quarterback that's now playing, but
they still lost the game. So and even when you
have good that's what the difference between good teams and
bad teams. Good teams you find ways to win games
even if it's ugly. Bad teams find ways to lose
games even when you play well. So like that has
(07:37):
got to be the difference. Alabama has to make Auburn
feel that way, and then you have to be able
to calm down or get over the Jordan Hair effect,
because if it wasn't, if this thing was at Brian Denny,
nobody would be talking about it that how scary is it?
But the fact that it's in Jordan hair the last
three games, it's their last six games, their last six
(07:59):
Iron Bowls, it's.
Speaker 4 (08:00):
Been split three to three.
Speaker 1 (08:02):
They've scored the exact amount same points as well. So
it is a rivalry that continue to goes down down
the wire, and especially when it's in Jordanair, you just
never know because everybody has seen crazy things happen in
Jordanair Stadium in the Arnble.
Speaker 3 (08:16):
I'm with you now.
Speaker 2 (08:17):
I mean, maybe I'm not going to say the biggest
rivalry game in the SEC this weekend, but in terms
of ranking and stature and implications Vandy at Tennessee. We
were just talking to our mutual buddy Ryan McGee about
this yesterday. He's a Tennessee alum. He's gonna be up there.
First ever ranked matchup between these two, which is absolutely insane.
Vandy fourteenth in the rankings, outside looking in chance for
(08:40):
a top twenty win. But can they get it on
the road? What are you thinking here?
Speaker 1 (08:44):
Man? You know, I heard mcgeewee talked about it yesterday,
talking about, you know, beat the nerds in them back
home type thing. That was hilarious. But it's just so
interesting to see that. You know that this has been
a once in a lifetime or generational fand of teams.
This Vanderbilt team has been different all year long. We've
talked about it and at the beginning of the year.
(09:05):
We actually thought that this Vanderbilt team could only win
if they ran the ball a certain way that you know,
they had to control the time of possession, they had
to win the takeaway turnover battle. But as this team
has progressed and matured and just gotten better, they're throwing
the football all over the ballpark. You know. They Diego
Pop has had what he had, three straight three hundred
(09:27):
yard passing games. Then he just put another four hundred
and four hundred and thirty something or four hundred and
sixty eight yards whatever it was. It broke the Vanderbilt
all time passing single game records. And so now they're
throwing the ball over the ballpark. They don't have to
win how we think they did. I think it's a
great It's gonna be a great game. That's why we're
going SEC Nation. We're going to Knoxville. So I'm really
(09:49):
fired up about this game, just to be able to
go out there and watch two really good teams battle
it out, and a team like Vanderbilt who's been a
team of destiny. Diego Pobbly has this great story and
and you know has a chance to all of a
sudden if he wins is just getting invited. I don't
know if I'm not saying he's gonna win a Heisman,
but getting invited to the Heisman he was the first
(10:09):
person from Vanderbilt to ever do that as well. So
it's like all these things that could happen for Vanderbilt,
Diego Pavia and Eli Stowers and all these other great players,
and Clark Reeve's done an excellent job of humbling himself,
building this program and getting it to where they have
it now. Now it's all about sustaining and bigger goals
and thinking and dreaming is purely really big, Like I
(10:29):
love that about Clark Lee. And then on the other side,
you got Knoxville and you know, with hypol and the
things that he's been able to do hasn't been what
everybody wanted him to be this season, but man, they
can still say who else would they rather play than
Vanderbilt When Vanderbilt's good, and then all of a sudden,
get your big brother to knock you back down and say, no, no, no,
no no, we're still the best team in the state.
(10:52):
You're just Vanderbilt. We're still Tennessee. And so that part of.
Speaker 4 (10:56):
It, in that aspect of it's got to be huge too.
Speaker 1 (10:58):
And when it comes to the field, Kyle, I say
this last point. Tennessee's bigger. They are bigger than them,
so how much? And how does Tennessee run their offense
effectively using two tight ends or multiple tight ends running
the football downhill? They've implemented this more this year than
any other time under Josh Hype Flat Tennessee. They're not
(11:18):
spreading you from corner to corner. They stretch you a
little bit from the wide receivers, but they're using double
tight ends and using them in the run game. And
can they bully Vanderbilt into submission in neland Stadium? It's
going to be a great matchup. And kneland Stadium is
another thing too, right, how loud is it there? It's crazy?
Speaker 2 (11:35):
Oh yeah, no, absolutely? What about this Texas A and
M Texas matchup? It's in Austin, And I don't know, Like,
on the one hand, you got all these Steve Sarkeesian
rumors he shot him down, but people don't believe him.
And you know, archers come on late. But A and
M continues to find a way to win. They've got obviously,
you know, everybody's got implications this time of year with
the postseason. But what's your feeling here about A and
(11:55):
M at Texas?
Speaker 1 (11:57):
I think A and M has been the better team
all year long. Texas is playing well though, they are
playing some of their better football right now, but they're
also going to be missing their best defensive player, Anthony
Hill Junior. I think he's still going to be out
of with an injury with something wrong with his hands.
So that's a huge drop. That's a huge miss for
Texas defensively. He's that good of a player. But Arts
(12:20):
Maning is still in the football downfield, and you know,
he looks really good versus a terrible Arkansas defense. Arkansas
is awful. You know, I had a defensive coordinator, Greg Williams.
They used to say when the defense was bad. He's like,
that defense is setting defenses back fifty years. They're that
fing bad. That is what Arkansas looks like right now.
They are terrible. Sorry to get off on a tangent,
(12:40):
but man, they are very very bad on defense, and
Arts made them look that way. So but TEXAAN and
M is so good on third down. This game is
gonna come down to the little things. Third down execution.
If it goes to Taxa and M's way, then Texan
and m wins this game on the road. But if
Texas can pull it off or go out there and
do they need to do, then Texas could easily win
(13:02):
this game because Texas is a good team and they're talented.
But Sark also versus top five teams, doesn't win at Texas.
I think his records now one in seven. So that's
also another thing that you got your wallet.
Speaker 2 (13:16):
Bet she's got it. She got the wallet for sure.
They don't leave home without the wallet.
Speaker 1 (13:21):
She just told me to shut up. Okay, So I guess.
Speaker 2 (13:25):
All right, Hey, I'm looking at the LSU game this weekend.
Obviously they've fallen completely out of relevance this time of
year at Oklahoma, and it's got me thinking more about
you know, who's going to be there next year. And
I'm looking at the egg Bowl this weekend. Ole miss
number seven in the country. Their ad Keith Carter told
us I guess about a week ago that we'll announce
Lane Kiffin's intentions, and I guess their own after the
(13:47):
Egg Bowl. I'm just stuck on, why are you waiting
to announce that you're staying. If you're staying, like to me,
it's almost a clearcut indicator that he's gone to either
LSU or Florida. And that's what we'll find out after
the Egg Bowl, but maybe not. What's your gut feeling
tell you about this?
Speaker 1 (14:02):
It's exactly what I would say too. It's the same thing,
like I don't understand, Like you know, if you if
you wanted to tell us that you were staying, you
would just do that, right, And so for me, when
I hear all these things, I'm like, Okay, well he's leaving.
And I don't know exactly what Lane wants or what
Lane's looking forward, but Lane is trying to get it,
(14:23):
so it'll be interesting to see. I don't know if
Missippi State's good enough as a team to beat Old
Miss regardless of all the noise around this game. And
this is a game where these fan bases do not
like each other, They really really hate each other. They're
two totally different styles of fan bases. So I'm looking
forward to these game just for everything else. It's Old
(14:47):
Miss able to handle all the noise because you know,
I get I hear trend that Chandler's talking about well
he you know, one game one and no mentality, all
these other things, and you know there's no we're not
paying attention in the outside noise, blah blah blah. Well
he doesn't send those sweets out every other week, so
clearly it's something. So can Ole Miss handle all those things?
(15:11):
That's what I am looking forward to in that game.
And you know, and the rivalry aspect of it is big.
But it's going to be interesting because min City State.
If they win, they get to a bowl game. Ole Miss,
you lose, I think they're still in the playoffs. But
it's just a big dark cloud. And then if your
coach leaves, the playoff committee will have to take that
into consideration as well. So how much further down the
(15:34):
wrong do you drop? I don't know.
Speaker 3 (15:36):
Two quick things will get you out of here. Clemson.
Speaker 2 (15:38):
South Carolina is just about as big a dud as
it could be, especially given pre season expectations. I mean, listen,
we thought South Carolina could be, you know, one of
the biggest focal points of college football this year, given
the preseason hot Well you did not, No, you didn't,
but a lot of people did. And I bought into
it at least partially, but it's the polar opposite of that.
South Carolina's not even going bowling shape. Beamer's going to
(16:00):
be on the hot seat. You've got programs trying to
poach with Leonora Sellers. They've already fired the OC, the
offensive line coach. Like, if you're South Carolina, how do
you approach the offseason going into next year under Shane
Beamer knowing that this year was massively disappointing and next
year there's going to be a lot riding on it.
Speaker 1 (16:17):
I would say, win this game. If you win this game,
everything feels okay. In my opinion about South Carolina. If
they win this game, everything's okay. And I know that
they didn't have the season that they wanted to, that
they were not that good this year, but I didn't
think they would be that good because of how many
players they had to replace on the defensive side of
(16:37):
the football field, and not just replace normal guys, but
first sec well second third round guys close to being
first round guys on that defense, so multiple guys. I
don't think South Colinna's at the place where they can
just plug and replace that easily like some other schools did.
So that was my number one thing on South Carolina.
(16:57):
But I still think this game's interesting because it's a
rivalry Davos Sweeney. I mean the fact that they beat
Louisville last week on a Friday night. I mean it
kind of like this is exactly what Clemson tries to
do and get to back Roland and I ultimately, I
think it does matter to the state of South Carolina
and Clemson in South Carolina. Throw the records out. Neither
(17:20):
one of the teams have been good or successful this
year or where they thought they wanted to be. Clemson
another team move. I had a friend of mine had
him in the National Championship. He looks like, man, this
is an idiot. But you know, nobody saw Clemson struggling
the way that they have this year. Nobody saw that happen.
And ultimately, I think this game for the state of
South Carolina and bragging routes, and also for the University
(17:41):
of South Carolina and Shane Beemer say we're still better
than you, Dabo. I think when South Carolina gets to
say that to Davos Sweeney, they always take a little
pride of that. So I'm not going to discredit that.
Speaker 2 (17:51):
Yeah, all right, last thing. We'll let you go and
get to your holiday. Panthers fell flat on Monday Night football.
You and I talked about this last week. We were
sharing or I guess just enjoying you or Monday Night
football stories, and a lot of us were hopeful that
this team was ready for prime time, but they didn't
seem to be.
Speaker 5 (18:06):
Was it that?
Speaker 2 (18:06):
Did you see a team that simply wasn't ready for
the spotlight, the stage in the moment, or was it
more than that?
Speaker 1 (18:13):
I just didn't think they were. I mean, first of all,
they're not better than San Francisco, that's number one. I
thought the defense competed and played well. It was unfortunate
whatever happened. I barely got to watch the game because
I was at basketball with my daughter, but I heard about,
you know, the struggles offensively and just the up and
(18:34):
down emotions of the opinions of Bryce Shawn. It could
either bring this team together and he ultimately survived this
and they all get better and find a way to
win as a team and have him as your quarterback
going forward, or it will fracture this thing. And I
(18:56):
have no idea when this organization will be able to
win at a higher clip if it doesn't turn out
to be what I just said at the beginning part.
And so I think a lot of outside noise can
start to creep in if you let it. And especially
because so many fans and this is not just Carolina
Panthers fans, this is the Alabama fans who want to
see Kaylin de boor not be successful as well. Sometimes
(19:19):
right every time that Alabama loses, oh he's got to go.
He don't win like this or not like that. They'd
rather be right than actually just root for the best
outcome of your own teams. And so when you're always
trying to spew negative at the first negative turn, like
that wears on people. They're professionals, but they're all young
(19:40):
professionals in this game. It's not a lot of guys
that have been on great winning teams that gnawed to
hunker down mentality and block out the outside noise and
be able to continue to hammer through a season, not
just one or two games in swings, but a season,
because ultimately, that's how do you do it? And playoff
teams are built in November and d Right, if you
(20:01):
just win November December, you got a champ. And you
got to win those games. And they still got a
whole month of December and they can win this division too.
That's the crazy thing, as bad as you want to
say it, I want a division here. Going seven to
eight and one, it was terrible. We went two straight months, Kyle,
without winning the game. I was a miserable so sob
at home miserable. And we still made the playoffs and
(20:25):
won a game in the playoffs. So you have to
continue to not waiver as a player and got to
continue to block out. And you've got to get everybody.
Speaker 4 (20:35):
Got to get everybody's back.
Speaker 1 (20:37):
Because I'm hearing too much outside noise, Kyle, and I
don't like that, and that I'm telling you it has
ruined teams. And once you ruin one season, the team
is never the same again.
Speaker 4 (20:47):
That's the NFL.
Speaker 3 (20:49):
Love it.
Speaker 2 (20:49):
Hey, Buddy, Happy Thanksgiving to you the family. Tell Heather
and the kids. I said the same, thank you for
your time as always, safe travels.
Speaker 1 (20:55):
All right, Oh man, love you guys. Man, Happy Thanksgiving
Man to everybody else out there. Man, get that forty
grand bro I heard you earlier. Get that forty grand
I got congratulations. I'll keep doing well.
Speaker 3 (21:05):
Telko, No, I said, I We'll do there.
Speaker 5 (21:06):
You go.
Speaker 2 (21:06):
Roman Harper, two time pro bowler, Super Bowl champion, SEC
Network analyst with us each and every Wednesday, and on
this day, the twenty third annual wfn Z Street Turkeys
presented by Ram Pavement. We're about to get a scoreboard
update during the break, but as of about twenty minutes ago,
we were about thirty eight thousand dollars raised, two thousand
(21:27):
dollars shy of my personal and I think our overall
forty thousand dollars goal for this event. It's just it's
incredible what you guys are willing to do to help
us make an impact on this day for now twenty
three consecutive years, and we are in the home stretch
of doing it again. I need you to help me
get over the hump here. Okay, five dollars ten dollars
donations that will get us there. I'm getting twenty dollars
(21:50):
donations coming in as well. AJ's going to get us
a scoreboard update. But we are close. Forty thousand dollars
is an unbelievable number. If we can get there, It's
very simple. If you can't drop by and give us food,
All you have to do is text Street Turkeys to
five zero one, five to five.
Speaker 3 (22:05):
That's the phone number.
Speaker 2 (22:06):
Two text five zero one five to five, that's the number,
and text Street Turkeys all one word in the body
of the text. When you hit send, you should get
an automatic response with a link to a secure donation
page where you can donate whatever you're able to give.
Five ten, twenty five, fifty. We've had donations in that
range all day. We've had fifty, we've had seventy five,
(22:27):
we've had two fifty five hundred.
Speaker 3 (22:29):
Big shout out to the Hornets and to.
Speaker 2 (22:31):
Jack Daniels for cutting us some five thousand dollars checks
today on top of everything else. Like, it's just been
an amazing day. So let's close in. Let's get to
the goal. Text Street Turkeys to five zero one, five
to five, and let's hit that forty thousand dollars goal. Well,
come back, a lot of good stuff On the FanDuel
text line, I asked the question, Frank Ragnow is coming
out of retirement to join the Detroit Lions for the
(22:54):
rest of the season. If you could pluck one player
out of retirement right now to return to your favorite team,
who would it be seven oh four, five, seven, ninety
six ten Sports Radio ninety two seven WF and Z.
(23:16):
Hey rocking and rolling from the corner of Minton Moorhead
here in Uptown Charlotte. The sun is setting, the skylines
getting bright, the man, traffic's not slowing down. It's Thanksgiving Eve,
but for our purposes, it's the twenty third annual WF
and Z Street Turkeys presented by Ram Pavement. We are
closing in on forty thousand dollars raised, and I really
(23:36):
need your help. We got to get to forty thousand dollars.
Either way, we're making a massive impact. I was just
told by our guy Ajnelly and Radio one Promotions that
we have taken well over four hundred frozen turkeys donated today.
Speaker 3 (23:48):
That's amazing.
Speaker 2 (23:49):
I mean, for a lot of people, it's just easier
to donate monetarily, and so that's that's special.
Speaker 3 (23:53):
That's amazing.
Speaker 2 (23:54):
But for the people who came up here lugging turkeys
to uptown Charlotte, where there's not a lot of parking
and there's a whole lot of traffic, that speaks to
the dedication to the generosity of the WF and Z listenership,
so thank you for that. They're going to get back
to their facilities and weigh all the food, the boxed
goods and canned goods that have been donated. But it's
going to be, as it always is, in the tens
(24:15):
of thousands of pounds of food that will be distributed
to families in need this holiday season. So just again,
thank you from the bottom of my heart and everybody
here at WFNZ for what you're doing. The last goldo
to get us over the edge is to get to
forty thousand dollars. At last check, we were at about
thirty eight thousand dollars. It's getting to the witching hour.
Folks are headed home to get ready for their own
(24:36):
Thanksgiving celebrations. So we'll get the final numbers at some
point tonight, but in the meantime, we can't let up.
We have to get past the finish line. We've done
so much to get here and to get close to
forty thousand dollars. Tech Street Turkeys to five zero one
five five. I can't stress enough. I need one hundred
people to donate twenty dollars.
Speaker 3 (24:55):
That's all.
Speaker 2 (24:56):
I need one hundred people to donate twenty dollars. I
need two hundred people to donate ten dollars. That gets
us there. I've seen the numbers. I know how many
listeners we have on a daily basis. That's a tiny
minute fraction of our listenership. And I know many of
you have already donated, so thank you. I'm not even
talking to you. But if you're out there and you
haven't and you're thinking about it, man, we are so
(25:17):
close and it's just a five or ten dollars donation.
I promise you if you're sitting there listening to me
right now thinking yeah, I mean, that's awesome. These guys
are raising money. That's a really good cause. But you know,
I don't know. They're pretty close. They can do it
without me. We can't. I promise you we can't. And
it's only going to take a five or ten dollars
donation to get us there. So Tech Street Turkeys to
five zero one five five to donate two street turkeys. Look,
(25:38):
we got a guy walking up with cash in his
hand right now. That's phenomenal. That's so cool. Thank you
all for doing this. But let's get past the forty
thousand dollars mark. And I did get Who's Your Bobby?
First of all, we have a lot of great listeners,
so many great listeners that have names on the text line,
that participate with us in all the things that we
do throughout the year. Who's Your Bobby's already cut a check,
I think, for five hundred dollars of his own money,
(26:01):
on top of spending pretty much all day here at
the WFNZ doghouse. He's been wearing his Panthers Santa hat
and as Who's Your Bobby jersey on the corner of
Minton Moorhead, collecting cash from passers by and cars in
the intersection. But on top of his own five hundred dollars,
he is saying he's calling out WFNZ nation to step
up and over donate him. He's coming back for a
(26:23):
second round. He's starting at twenty five dollars to start
the contest. I don't know if we're going to call
this a winner or the donor of the day, or
or how we frame this, but like Bobby is helping
to try to get us over the edge here man,
he's saying, I'm coming back for a second round. I'll
start my second bid at twenty five, twenty five. Sorry,
Bobby twenty dollars at twenty five dollars. He wants people
(26:43):
to beat that donation here in the witching hour to
get us over forty k.
Speaker 3 (26:48):
So he's starting at twenty five.
Speaker 2 (26:49):
If you can top it, great, If it's five or
ten dollars, that's amazing. We'll take what you got for us.
Seven oh four, five, seven oh ninety six ten.
Speaker 3 (26:56):
Look at this.
Speaker 2 (26:57):
We got a guy pulling up in a box truck
right now. We got a worker train pull it up
in a box truck right now. I think my man's
been working the shift all day and he just rolled
up with bags full of food for WFNZ. I don't
know what his name is. He's he's getting more food
out of his truck right now. Look at this man
he is, I mean turkeys and canned goods, bags of
food that he's donating right now. He's got a whole
(27:17):
truck full of stuff right here. This is Get this
guy's name before he leaves. This is incredible. I want
to make sure we shout him out. He's just pulled up.
I mean, I don't know what.
Speaker 3 (27:27):
Who is this?
Speaker 2 (27:28):
Yeah, come on here, what's his name? Litherario Miller from
Cool Express. I tell you what, man, thank you and
that is what you're doing right there is amazing. Thank
you for that. From the bottom of my heart, thank
you for that. Ten turkeys and canned goods. Litherario Miller
Cool Express, Cool Express LLC. Y'all google this man. My goodness,
(27:49):
what a heart for his community. That's incredible. Man seven
oh four or five seven ninety six to ten, sweet
cheek saying KB, can you verify the number because I'm
not getting the link to donate yet. It's five zero one.
I've had a couple of people say they've had an issue.
I'm not sure if that's an SMS problem. I'm not
an engineer, I'm not a tech specialist.
Speaker 3 (28:07):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (28:08):
But text five zero one, five to five. That's the number,
and just street turkeys, all one word to that number,
five zero one, five to five. And let's get us
over that forty thousand dollars hump, and we can come
in here on Monday and celebrate you and talk about
the incredible impact that you have made. Once again, more
on that in just a couple of minutes. But let's
get past forty thousand dollars.
Speaker 3 (28:29):
Now.
Speaker 2 (28:29):
I did ask people Smoke, who was the one player
they bring out a retirement in honor of Frank Ragnow
coming out of retirement at twenty nine years old to
rejoin the Detroit Lions. I don't know if you've looked
at the text line, I would guess about sixty percent
of the text line says Luke Keigley right now.
Speaker 3 (28:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (28:44):
I mean the last few weeks they have been short
at linebackers, so that does make sense. It's perfect on
multiple levels because he's the arguably Listen, I think Luke
is one of the at least three greatest linebackers of
all time.
Speaker 3 (28:57):
Where do you rank him all time?
Speaker 5 (29:00):
I think, Look, I don't want to disrespect Dick Buck
because the late great, but I think Dick played in
a different time where you know, he was more physical,
but it was also not the game that it turned
into in the eighties or nineties.
Speaker 3 (29:11):
We're talking short list. He's in there with Ray Lewis.
Speaker 5 (29:15):
I think he's kind of on that short list, kind
of a Mike singletary. I also fro Patrick Wilson there
just because they both had short careers and I don't
think Patrick gets enough love compared to Luke, which is
weird because he did play in San fran Yeah for
his career, and they both ended short careers due to health.
I think Luke's was more forced than Patrick Willison was.
But yeah, I put them in a very short list
(29:38):
of guys that are like the greatest linebackers of all time.
Speaker 3 (29:42):
How about that?
Speaker 2 (29:42):
I sorry, I'm gonna pop the mic real quick. My
guy Litherio Miller from Cool Express. This guy just handed us. Wow,
man just handed us one hundred dollars cast donation on
top of ten turkeys and bags full of Foodletherio Miller, Buddy,
I'll tell you what, I'll never forget his name, that's
for sure. This man just pulled up and made a
big difference for his neighbors this holiday season.
Speaker 3 (30:02):
How great is that?
Speaker 2 (30:02):
I'm sorry he walked back in after dropping off ten
turkeys and bags and bags of food and just handed
me an additional one hundred dollars cash for the donation.
Box man. That's so great, That's so awesome. All right,
let's see fandul text line is hopping here. Oh, Brett
farf came in. Didn't expect that. Mint Hill Dan saying
Steve Smith, that was aj and Ellie's answer as well,
(30:23):
a lot of folks want Smitty back on the field.
You're not getting Smitty off the golf course at this point,
but I appreciate the sentiment. Shout out Smitty. Let's see Brad,
says John Casey, since he's the Panthers all time points
leader and we need points. That's a pretty good answer.
I like that. That's pretty good. And then I had
somebody right when I asked the question. Mel from Charlotte said,
you know, half of us are gonna say Cam Newton.
(30:46):
It's not quite half, but there's a lot of Cam
Newton love on the text line, as to be expected.
Let's see a lot of Luke Keithley. We got Darryl
Green from Joe Gibbs Jr. That's a hell of it.
Here's the thing.
Speaker 3 (30:58):
He might actually still could play considering how long his
career went.
Speaker 2 (31:00):
Dude, and I think I saw something not that long ago.
He's still in phenomenal shape too. Yeah, like them think
about it. He played in the early eighties and his
last year was in two thousand and two. Yeah. Yeah,
he played for Washington when Steve Spurrier was to coach
m Okay Jay and Charlotte says, bring Prime Jordan back
so we can show Lebron who the real goat is. Man,
I'd love to see that. Let's see shrimp bride. Bryce says,
(31:24):
bring me Tom Brady to the Panthers. Immediately, Oh, come on,
you can't know. We're not doing that. You got to
bring him back to a team they played on. We
can't bring Brady back from retirement put him on a
team he'd never played for. It's creative. I'll give you
points for that, but that's kind of breaking.
Speaker 3 (31:39):
The rules here. It just sounds wrong too. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (31:42):
Mike from Missouri says, I would bring Jamal Charles out
out of retirement for the Kansas City Chiefs right now.
Speaker 5 (31:47):
That's a really good one. He doesn't get enough credit nowadays.
Dude was fast.
Speaker 2 (31:53):
Derek and Charlotte think. He says, Oh my god, LT.
Lawrence Taylor. I assume is I mean, that's the only
LT that unless it's Ladania Tomlins two lts. Depends on
what era. I'm going, Well, we're in North Carolina, so
I'm going to assume he means Lawrence Taylor. Chicago Style Pizza,
says Thomas Davis Fluke Jukie said who he had too,
Kimba or Larry Johnson. Ooh oo, lots of lots of
(32:14):
Kimba Walker, lots of Kimba Walker on the text line,
I go.
Speaker 5 (32:19):
Ahead is the complete antithesis of Lamela when it comes
to health too.
Speaker 3 (32:23):
Oh yeah, just a straight up iron man.
Speaker 5 (32:25):
I mean there was only one game he missed in
a three year stretch, and that was because there was
a definite family.
Speaker 3 (32:30):
That was it. Yeah, Julius Peppers. A lot of love there.
Speaker 2 (32:34):
Although this one's interesting because we have Panthers fans saying that,
but we also have tar Heels fans who have brought
up Pep multiple times. Somebody said bring I would bring
Oh here it is ninety zero numbers, says I would
bring Julius Oh, he says to Panthers. Okay, I had
a tar Heel fan earlier that said I would bring
Pep back to the tar Heels basketball team to see
how far he could take his basketball career.
Speaker 3 (32:55):
That's an interesting answer.
Speaker 2 (32:57):
That's an interesting answer because I think that Ju'llius Peppers
could have played in the NBA.
Speaker 3 (33:01):
That's that's not a hot take. Folks think that. Do
you think that? Oh yeah, I definitely think that.
Speaker 5 (33:06):
It's just his his peaks would have not been nowhere
near as big as his peaks in the NFL. Like
he would have been a really good rotational player. I
feel like we'd see him, you know, average about ten
points eight rebounds per game for some team. You know,
him him going back to the basket against Charlie Villain
the Wave or something like that. He'd be kind of
like one of those guys you talk about. And unfortunately,
(33:27):
at the school he was at, he would get lost
in the shuffle because it's like, oh, Julius Peppers. Oh yeah,
It's kind of like when people mentioned Joseph Forte. It's
like they you don't hear them mention him that much
because Carolina has so many legends. So that's why I'm
I'm glad he went football, because he's a leg He's
an icon in football. Yeah, there's only a couple of
(33:48):
airdressers that are clearly better than him. That's a very
very small list, and that's probably Bruce Smith and Reggie White.
Speaker 2 (33:55):
All right, all right, well who would you bring out
of retirement? Frank Ragnow is coming out of retirement to
play for the d Detroit Lions at twenty nine years
old coming out of retirement, which sounds weird to come
out of retirement at twenty nine, but that's what he's doing.
Who would you bring out of retirement seven oh four five,
seven oh ninety six ten. While we talk about that,
and speaking of the Lions, that's a massive game to
start the Thanksgiving slate tomorrow as we are all most
(34:17):
of us, I think settling in for Thanksgiving at about
one o'clock normal people, normal people time to eat Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving dinner. That is Packers at Lions Ford Field. One
o'clock on Fox. That's the first game tomorrow, and then
four point thirty on CBS. We've got the six and
five Kansas City Chiefs visiting the five to five and
(34:37):
one Dallas Cowboys at AT and T Stadium in Arlington.
I think the Cowboys are winning that game, smoke. I
take no pride, I take no pleasure in saying that,
but I think the Cowboys are winning that game.
Speaker 3 (34:49):
What do you think?
Speaker 5 (34:50):
I honestly can understand where you're coming from, because the
defense got a lot of big stops. That defense that
they were ranting and raving on saying they wanted the
Eberflues gone. Yeah, you got a lot of key stops
and in Philadelphia on Sunday, So I think that's big.
You know, it sucks that it had to come like this,
but I do think this team kind of got a
spark with the tragic passing of marsh on neland and
(35:12):
I think get trading for Quentin Williams has made an
instant boost of this team that they that Jerry wanted
in the whole long term, Like it took a messed
up way to kind of get there, from Micah Parsons
to Quentin Williams, but I think Quentin Williams is going
to be a spark. And it would make two sparks
in a row during the trade deadline for Dallas because
in twenty eighteen, Dallas was middle of the road to
(35:33):
middle of the pack, and then they traded for a
Marii Cooper from Las Vegas or Oakland at the time,
and that really got the offense going. And here's another thing.
We kind of saw it here. We definitely saw it
here when they were playing Carolina. But George Pickens, like
he basically was what Dan Morgan was wanting to see
last year from Deontae Johnson Steelers wide receiver that was
(35:56):
on his behavior that is bawling out. He's probably not
going to be there after this year. But Kyle, he
already has over a thousand yards receiving. Oh, he's a monster.
No one ever doubted that all pro all Pro potential
this year. Yeah, No, he's an absolute monster. That was
that was never in doubt.
Speaker 2 (36:12):
To your point, it was, you know, would he you
know what, would he settle in would he fall in line,
would he be a good teammate? Would he stay out
of the spotlight for the wrong reason? And so far,
so good. Also real quick, tomorrow night, Bengals and Ravens
from M and T Banks Stadium in Baltimore. This one's
a massive letdown of a game. I mean, obviously this
has been on the schedule for the entire year, and
he can't back out of Thanksgiving yet, No, you can't
(36:34):
back out of that and Bengals Ravens. You can't flex
that one at M and T.
Speaker 3 (36:39):
It does help that Joe Burrow's coming back, it does.
Speaker 2 (36:42):
It does, so you do get to watch Burrow versus Lamar.
But this one should have much bigger implications than it does.
And to be honest, I mean that Baltimore is still
in the playoff hunt. And now, right, that's what I'm saying. Well, yeah,
but it's six. I'm saying it's six and five. They're
still in the playoff hunt. Not the Ravens team you expected,
So I want to be clear about that. Yeah, but
Bengals at three and eight, you know, six to go,
(37:03):
they'd have to win out. I think we all understand
how that works. Not gonna happen. But yeah, Bengals Ravens
tomorrow night. That's the game that unless you have a
big you know, let's say, wager on that game, you
might fall asleep through that one.
Speaker 3 (37:13):
You might.
Speaker 5 (37:14):
But that's understandable. But hey, two games, two games, two
out of three ain't bad. Meet Low Specials. Eric Collins
would like to say the Lions Packers game is going
to be massive, and so is the Cowboys Chiefs game.
Speaker 2 (37:25):
Yeah, yeah, one hundred percent. All right, seven oh four, five,
seven ninety six ten. Hit us up on the fan
duel text line right now, we go to smoke on
the headlines, all right.
Speaker 5 (37:35):
During a locker room meeting with the media earlier today,
Kyle Rico Dawdle says Dave Canalis took ownership at a
team meeting about not running the ball enough versus San Francisco,
and Rico also said he thought they could have had
success running the ball against the forty nine ers because
they were playing with light boxes up front. So it
sounds like Dave Canals has taken full responsibility for the
Mets up on Monday. Good for him, I mean, like,
(38:00):
I think he has to, and I think that should
just like what he said after the Falcons win. A
little easier to swallow after a win, but he said, listen,
I made some mistakes. You guys wouldn't let me screw
it up. I think the players probably appreciated that deeply.
I'm sure they appreciate his honesty and accountability here, But
this one comes in a game that was winnable, and
he got away from the run at a time that
(38:22):
was just inexcusable by football and coaching standards. There was
just no reason for it, and I'm sure that his
bosses probably weren't thrilled about it either.
Speaker 3 (38:30):
Yeah, I'm not saying that.
Speaker 2 (38:31):
You know, Dan Morgan and David Tepper had the same
reaction that FNZ hosts and listeners had.
Speaker 3 (38:36):
I'm not saying that By any stretch.
Speaker 2 (38:37):
But they probably weren't thrilled about that, and I wouldn't
blame them a bit.
Speaker 3 (38:41):
What else you got? All right?
Speaker 5 (38:42):
In under news in the NFC South, Baker Mayfield was
listed as a non participant in today's practice due to
his sprained ac joint. But the Buccaneers looked like they
could be getting Bucky Irvin back, as he was listed
as a full participant. So stat is still up in
the here for Baker for this Sunday. Sound like they're
getting their starting running back back.
Speaker 3 (39:02):
Okay, we'll come back. We'll wrap up the show.
Speaker 2 (39:04):
It's the wfn Z twenty third Annual Street Turkeys, closing
in on forty thousand dollars. I need your help to
get there. We are so close, y'all, thirty eight thousand accounting.
We are gonna get the final scoreboard report coming up
at the end of the show. I don't know where
we are right now, I really don't. I got a
thirty eight thousand dollars update about thirty minutes ago. We
got folks closing down shop, trying to get to their
(39:26):
own Thanksgiving celebrations with family. We're gonna find out the
final number coming up here. In just a little bit,
but there's still time to get a donation in. Please
help me get to forty thousand dollars five ten, twenty
dollars dollars.
Speaker 3 (39:37):
Donations will get us there.
Speaker 2 (39:38):
Justin from Myrtle Beach just sent in a twenty dollars
donation saying, I hope we can get over the goal today.
Speaker 3 (39:44):
KB me too.
Speaker 2 (39:45):
Tech Street Turkeys all one word, there's no space. Tech
Street Turkeys to five zero one, five to five. I
promise you, if you're thinking I have five dollars, it's
not going it's not much.
Speaker 3 (39:56):
It is.
Speaker 2 (39:56):
If a bunch of you donate five and ten dollars
right now, we'll get there. We may already be, I'm
not sure, but just in case, let's get those donations in.
Let's get to forty thousand dollars. Man, it's an exciting day.
Sports Radio ninety two seven w F and Z All right,
(40:36):
Carolina Chilly hit me up on the fan dual text
line and said, send me the donation number again so
I can stop.
Speaker 3 (40:41):
Being a posh.
Speaker 2 (40:43):
Don't be that hard on yourself, he says, Or I'll
wait for a repeat. Hard to really listen while driving
as I stop at text lights well or stop lights.
Speaker 3 (40:50):
Pardon me.
Speaker 2 (40:51):
Yeah, listen, I'm gonna keep throwing it at you until
I'm off the air, all right, I'm gonna keep that.
Speaker 3 (40:55):
I'm gonna keep you know, I'm gonna keep giving it
to you while we're on the air. Okay, I just
I know, man, it's a great day.
Speaker 2 (41:04):
It's our signature giving event of the year, and you
guys make a difference every single year. I'm just proud
to be a part of it, and I'm proud of you.
And I mean that not in some cringy, cheesy way,
but y'all don't have to give your money. You get
hit up all year long for charities and philanthropic events,
and you know you've got money to spend on your
own families and your own kids, and mortgages ain't cheap
and groceries ain't cheap. So the fact that you do
(41:27):
this with us and for our community every single year,
it means the world to me, and it means the
world to Smoke And I think I speak on everybody
on their behalf at wfn Z that it means the
world to all of us. So as we wrap up
this show, but understanding also Hornet's pregame coming up in
about nine minutes, so I'm not going anywhere in terms
of the airwaves. We're trying to get past forty thousand dollars.
(41:48):
This is the time of the day where everybody leaves.
It's me and Dmak up here at the WFNZ doghouse
holding down the fort until I'm out of here after
Hornet's pregame. So we are awaiting the final numbers we
get to this point. I know the last number they
gave me is thirty eight thousand dollars. I know we're there,
and I know we're at more than that because I
have people who are texting in to say they have
(42:08):
donated since that number was put in front of me.
I just don't know where the overall number is right now.
We're gonna find out at some point later tonight. We'll
get the email. If you follow me on x formerly Twitter,
I'll make sure to put it out there as soon
as we get it Instagram as well, because I want
to thank all of you once we get that final number.
But I don't have full verification. I don't know that
we've topped forty thousand dollars. We might have we might
(42:31):
be close. I don't know, but help us get there.
Tech Street turkeys all one word street turkeys plural street
turkeys to five zero one, five to five to make
a monetary donation and see what you can do to
help us get over that forty thousand dollars number. This
is the day that we use the power of the
F and Z airwaves to make a difference. We'll get
back to screaming and ranting about sports and arguing with
each other and popping off hot takes and that sort
(42:53):
of stuff. Actually on Friday, because everybody's off tomorrow for Thanksgiving,
but don't forget on Friday here on FN from eight
am to nude, it's the young Guns. It's the Young
Guns eight am to node on Friday morning. I believe
that's Flounder, Fiddy and Aaron Shropshire Friday morning from A
to nude and then smoke what you and Willie in
the afternoon, right?
Speaker 3 (43:13):
Is that correct? That is correct?
Speaker 5 (43:15):
And it's gonna be very fun because we'll be on
there in the back, you know, the back half of
the egg Bowl between Ole Miss and Mississippi State.
Speaker 3 (43:23):
We get to react to some.
Speaker 5 (43:24):
Of these rivalry games live and I believe three thirties
win Georgia Tech takes on Georgia, So we'll be reacting
to that game live. So that's the fun thing about
being on the Friday after Thanksgiving. It's kind of got
a little bit of a March madness field.
Speaker 3 (43:37):
You know.
Speaker 5 (43:37):
We get to see games live happening in person. Like
right now, I'm watching three games at once. I'm watching
two college games and an NBA Cup game between the
Pistons and the Celtics.
Speaker 3 (43:47):
So that's gonna be fun.
Speaker 5 (43:48):
By the way, tonight's Hornets game is an NBA Cup
game against the New York Knicks yep Horne.
Speaker 3 (43:53):
It's what oh and two in the Cup game, the
NBA Cup game.
Speaker 5 (43:55):
But if they win, it could close the gap because
I believe they don't even have the worst point differential
in their group.
Speaker 2 (44:01):
That's a good point. That's a good point, so we'll
talk about it. Hornets pregame coming up at six o'clock.
Willy Pee will join me live from the Spectrum Center
inside the Bowels in their new radio studio. I'm here
at the wfn Z doghouse. Hornets and Nick's pregame coming
up top of the hour, which means we have to go.
Just a reminder, get us wherever you get your podcasts, Apple, Spotify, Google,

Oh oh, well, I misplayed the wrong one.
Speaker 3 (44:40):
There we go. I'm gonna send my cap to everyone
