Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the Kyle Bailey Show, powered by Victory Chevy Charlotte,
where every month is Truck Month.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
Victory Chevy Charlotte your Silverado Destination Hour number three.

Speaker 3 (00:24):
Sports Radio ninety two seven wfn Z. It's the best
damn sports talk in the Carolinas and it continues top
of the hour with Hornets Pregame six o'clock. I will
saddle up next to my man, the Esteem Travis T
Bone Hancock for one hour of premium Charlotte Hornets pregame coverage.
They are back after a three day break taken on
the Hawks tonight at the Spectrum Center. Tip Off is

(00:46):
at seven o'clock. We've got Lauren Williams of the Atlanta
Journal Constitution stopping by. You'll hear from Skyler Callahan of
Sports Illustrated. Should be a really, really good time. Keep
your text coming in on the FanDuel text line. More
to get to, including a Hornet's conversation come up a
bit later in the hour, and just lots of fun ahead.
But right now we head down to Tampa as we
get set for Tampa on Sunday, and we check in

(01:08):
with the voice of the Panthers, a Niche Shroff, who
is down there. I can only imagine doing some some scouting.
Now he's got the Gasparilla Bowl tomorrow between n C
State and Memphis, and then he's back on Sunday to
call Panthers and Bucks at the bank, and let's welcome
him in a niche It's good to have you. What
have you found out so far? What are you learning
from the Tampa natives since you've been down there.

Speaker 1 (01:28):
Well, what's funny is when I was getting ready to
board my flight from Charlotte, I had my Panthers backpack
and I always forget it's got my name on it.
And so a Panther fan comes up to me and
he goes, hey, you're going on the flight to Tampa.
I go, yep. He goes, you know, you know that
game is in Charlotte this week, and I go, no,
I'm aware, I'm going there for a bowl game. I'm

(01:49):
not that confused, not yet. It's late in the season,
but you know, I just got here. So we got
the bowl game tomorrow Anti State Memphis, and then I'll
get back tomorrow and then as big of a home
game as the Panthers have had in a while on Sunday.

Speaker 2 (02:06):
Yep, no doubt about it.

Speaker 3 (02:06):
Before we actually get to that game, though, let me
ask you less about the game itself. We talked about
that with Corey Smith of Pac Pride a little while ago.
But all this talk recently from guys like Rick Neuheisel
about reorganizing, I guess, getting rid of the ball season
and moving the bowls from the end of the college
football season to the beginning of the college football season.

Speaker 2 (02:25):
What are your thoughts on that.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
I think it's inevitable, I really do. The playoffs should
dominate the conversation in December, and we've now seen it
for a few years. Right. How vested are the players?
How vested are the coaches? You have a situation like Memphis,
for example, their interim head coach is former Panther Reggie Howard,
who had the interception in Super Bowl thirty eight against

(02:50):
Tom Brady, played with Jake the Loman those guys, so
he's the interim coach. He got a new head coach
and Charles Huff who's coming in. All those guys will
get the cursory inner with the new staff, but they're
looking for jobs too, So what's what's the focused level
and with the transfer portal and with player movement. I
think we're lucky that this is an early bowl game

(03:12):
and there's not really many opt outs. But the later
you get in bowl season, guys are looking elsewhere. They're
being distracted. They're getting texts and calls and dms from
other coaches. Hey, hit the portal, come here, come here,
we'll give you this money. I really think at the
end of the season, I think it'd be cool if
you cement the ball matchups for the following August and

(03:34):
maybe you know, the last couple of weeks of August
that was your bowl season. Fans now have time to
kind of plan out where they want to go, and
you can make a week out of it. It's still
in the summer, school hasn't started. I think it could
be an economic boom to those bull cities as well.
In those areas, you get more fans in the seats,
and as a college football fan, you get some really

(03:57):
riveting non conference games.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
To open the season like that, and listen.

Speaker 3 (04:00):
I think these title sponsorships for bowls are becoming increasingly
harder to come by. I've talked to a lot of
boll executives. I think that would spruce things up on
that front as well. So I like the idea. I'm
certainly open to it. But let's talk about what happened
on Sunday. Let's talk about the Panthers. I told the
folks on Monday that I was working all weekend, and
so I listened to you guys on the broadcast driving
home for most of the fourth quarter, and it was

(04:22):
really disappointing the way that game finished out for you,
sitting there in the booth in New Orleans calling it
what was the most I guess disappointing aspect of them
blowing that opportunity and the Saints getting away with the.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
Win seventeen to seven. You got a two score lead
in the second half against the three win team, and
you just kind of felt like, Okay, can they take
that next step and put this away? And that really
did feel deflating. You know, we're in on it. We're
around the players, you're around the coaches, you're on the
team plane. You get to know these guys at a

(04:53):
human level and you feel it. Certainly Jake and Luke
feel it, but you know, Zoke and I we feel
it too, And it was all there, It was all
there for the taking and had you won that game
as big of a game as Sunday is, could you
imagine with a chance to clinch the division at home
against Tampa Bay, knock off the team, all that was

(05:13):
in play and you kind of felt like you were
right there on the doorstep. You were right there. All
you have to do is bust the door open. And
they couldn't finish. Yeah, they got hosed by a couple
of questionable call There were a lot of penalties in
that game, but there were also things that they could
have done. I think where you know, as Dave canalislakes
to say finish and think that they've shown they can

(05:34):
do in the past. It just didn't come through. And
I think the last obstacle Kyle, for this team is
how do you win consistently? Because I think if you
zoom out, you do look at it and say, okay,
like this win one lose one element that they're in.
Now that's part of the trajectory, that's part of the
growth curve. Right two years ago, they were consistent, not
in the way you want them to be consistent, but

(05:56):
they were consistent. So progress has been made. But now
you want to get through point where you can consistently
win these games, consistently finish off your opponents, and kind
of get on that good side. And that's kind of
the last box this team needs to check. And I
think the question is going to be do they do
it this year or does it wait till the offseason
the next year.

Speaker 3 (06:13):
I think you kind of hit on some of this,
but we asked the question earlier in the show, so
I'll stay on it. That lack of consistency, you know,
week to week. Do you attribute that mostly to youth
or is it something else where you look at them
and say, this is the reason why week to week
they're having a hard time essentially being the same football team, Kyle.

Speaker 1 (06:31):
I think it probably goes back to your two and
fifteen two years ago. You win five games next year,
and that jump from two to five now to being
a playoff team, that's a significant jump. I see an
example in my own backyard. My daughter has been playing
lacrosse for a couple of years. So in the beginning
when she started, and she didn't know what she was doing,

(06:53):
and she got a stick, she couldn't throw, she couldn't catch,
You couldn't do any of the things you're supposed to,
and now she's kind of at the point where she's inconsistent.
She has days where she can throw and catch and
she's pretty good, some days not so good. But that's
sort of a plot point right on the growth chart,
and then the goal is to kind of move beyond

(07:14):
that and get to a point where now you can
consistently throw and catch, and then you kind of work
on the finer details. So I think the Panthers, if
you look at the plot lines, right, and if you
look at where they are on the growth chart, they're
trending up. But Kyle, I think both things can be true. Right,
you can say, hey, you've made progress and all this.

(07:34):
I really think you got to beat the Saints. And
that's not speaking out of turn. I think we all
looked at the two games against the Saints going into
the season and thought, yeah, those are the two games
that you have to win, and it stings to have
lost them both.

Speaker 3 (07:49):
Yeah, you're right, Hey, By the way, one dad to another,
you'll appreciate this throwing football with the boy in the
living room. The other day, he takes a football off
the bridge of the nose. Instead of panicking, he looks
at me holds his nose and funky butt lovin as
he takes it off the face. So I haven't been
that proud of him maybe ever, And I thought you'd
appreciate that because I thought it was great.

Speaker 1 (08:09):
I do appreciate that he gets it.

Speaker 3 (08:11):
He gets it, he gets it all right. Has Bryce
Young been good enough this year?

Speaker 1 (08:17):
It's tough. I think he's been good enough at times.
I think he throw of mirrors this season, doesn't he
It's been an ad and a flow and it's been
a little bit of up and down, and he's got
three games now, I think to see if he can
lock in that consistency. The Atlanta game great, we saw
what happened in San Francisco the Rams game, highest passer

(08:38):
rating of his career. I didn't think he was bad
last week. I thought he was okay last week. But
you know, I think with Bryce these next three games, like,
do we see that that leap? And I thought he
took that leap at the end of last year. But
it's been inconsistent, and I think again, when you have
quarterback play that's been a little up and down, that

(09:01):
can be reflected in the arc of your season, which
has been again progress but also up and down an.

Speaker 3 (09:09):
East raw voys of the Panthers hanging out with us
here defensively well, actually know, let me go here the
injury situation. It feels like this team is, you know,
getting healthier again this week. But the icky situation is
obviously concerning Turk Wharton appears that well. First of all,
I didn't practice today, not sure what his status is
for Sunday. Overall, going into a pivotal game, how do

(09:29):
you feel about the health of this football team?

Speaker 1 (09:31):
You know, everybody's beat up, and I know that's a cliche,
but at this point of the year, this team has
been through it. You look at what their situation was
against the Rams and they won that game, and the
Rams if they win tonight, I mean they're in position
to be the potential number one seed in the NFC.
So I think with the offensive line, obviously you want

(09:54):
Ikey in there, but they've been able to withstand a
lot on the offensive line, and Yashna in a couple
of times has come in and stepped up and played
pretty well and played well enough. So the injury thing
can be an excuse for everybody. Listen, the Bucks are
beat up too, right, Their starting guards have been banged up,
Mike Evans missed a big chunk of the season. They

(10:15):
just put one of their top corners on IR. So
you can't just say that's an excuse for the Panthers
because anybody in the NFL at this point the season
can use that.

Speaker 2 (10:24):
So, yeah, absolutely right, I've got it.

Speaker 3 (10:26):
As soon as you came on the air, I had
two people reference the Ted McMillan tentro mcbill in pardon me, catch,
no catch overturned? Call you and I spoke off the
air about that. Give the future perspective on what happened,
what you saw on the replay, and your reaction to
the NFL saying, hey, we got that wrong.

Speaker 1 (10:43):
So I'll tell you kind of what I'll tell the
listeners what I told you. So when we watched it live, right,
it's a catch. Then you kind of watched the replay
and you see tests Tedroro McMillan's hand kind of turns right.
And here's the thing about the ball hitting the ground.
The ball is allowed to hit the ground as long
as you don't use the ground to essentially support the catch.

(11:07):
You can't use it as a third hand. Right, the
ground cannot aid in the catch. The ball can hit
the ground as long as you have control of it.
And the ball hits the ground, it's still a catch.
And when you kind of watch the replay, right, Jake
and Luke both said, Hey, look like the ball might
have moved a little bit because he was only holding
it with one hand right and the ball hits the ground,

(11:29):
And I think that's what led the officials to overturn
the call. But Tteroa McMillan has huge hands, and there
was a very real chance in that situation even though
he's holding the ball with his palm facing down with
one hand and the ball hits the ground, he very
well could have had control. And I think where the
angst stems from is not so much did they get

(11:51):
the call right, but the replay process. So if there's
any doubt on what the call of the field is,
the call has to stand. So if that was incomplete initially, yeah,
probably you're not gonna find enough evidence to overturn it.
If it was called complete. And there's that little bit
of doubt, which I think you could certainly make a

(12:11):
case for, And you know, we're kind of looking at
it like, yeah, it might have been incomplete, not sure
he had full control. But again, if you're in that
gray area and it's not clear and obvious, you then
cannot overturn the call on the field. So watching it
back kind of after the game, I'm going, you know,
he may have had control there, and again, if you're
in that gray area he may have, you can't overturn

(12:34):
that call. So I think that was probably the piece
that the Panthers got, which was the replay review process,
not so much the actual call.

Speaker 2 (12:43):
If that makes sense, Oh, it.

Speaker 3 (12:44):
Does, it does. And last thing, I'll let you get
back to work. You got a really busy weekend coming up,
and you've touched on some of this already as it
relates to Tampa. But just as you've done your prep work,
this is going to be the first time you've seen
them this season, though you're familiar. What informs you about
how you think this game plays out, and maybe more specifically,
what about Tampa right now lead you to believe that

(13:04):
Carolina can win this game?

Speaker 1 (13:06):
Well onan listen, I go back to what Todd Bole
said after that loss against the Falcons that sounded like
a broken team and there was some body language issues
coming off the Field Baker Mayfield, who I think is
gutting it out right now. He looks beat up. He's
not getting a lot of help from his offensive line,
especially on the interior. This is a game where Derek

(13:29):
Brown could go off. I think Derek Brown's got a
chance to go off. They're very weak inside right now.
You've got Tristan Warp's coming off an injury. Now, Mike Evans,
my god, I mean he just burns the Panthers. It
seems every time they play him. He guy misses six weeks,
six to seven games and comes back and looks like
Mike Evans against Atlanta. You almost have to say, Okay,

(13:49):
he's going to get his but can you slow down
the run? And I think, really the biggest thing for
me in this game, I think if the Panthers can
jump on Tampa early, you got a chance to break them.
This to me is kind of a wobbly fighter. And
I look at Tampa as a team where if you
draw this thing into the middle rounds, maybe that confidence

(14:10):
could come back, but you have a chance to deliver
the knockout punch early. One area where Carolina has been great,
Kyle has been the opening script. They've scored nine times
on their opening drive this year, six touchdowns. They did
it again last week. I think if you go score
on your opening drive, field goal, touchdown, maybe go up
ten to nothing, fourteen to nothing. You do that, you

(14:32):
can sow a lot of doubt on Tampa, given where
they are right now, given the state of the franchise,
given that they are in free fall. I almost think
you got to go in with the mentality of knock
him out early. This doesn't need to be a four
quarter game. And I know that's a big ask, but
I think this is a wobbly team that you're getting.
They don't scare me the same way some of the

(14:53):
Tampa teams in the past scared you.

Speaker 3 (14:56):
All right, my man, have a great call tomorrow, Safe
travels home, and I will see you in the press
box on Sunday.

Speaker 1 (15:01):
That's good.

Speaker 3 (15:03):
Anie Rov, voice of the Panthers, on the call tomorrow
for the Gasparilla Bowl between NC State and Memphis on
ESPN Live from Tampa with us here on a Thursday
added to it for old uh seven four five, seven
ninety six to ten. Hit us up on the FanDuel
text line with your thoughts, Big kat Dan says, that's
putting words in their mouths.

Speaker 2 (15:24):
What is that? What is that?

Speaker 3 (15:26):
In response to Dan, I'm curious. Uh, heat Fans says,
it's funny how we always acknowledge Bryce has been inconsistent
without the context of the inconsistencies of everybody around him. Well, listen,
I know you're a big Bryce guy, and I'm a like,
I'm a fan of Bryce the player. I believe Bryce

(15:46):
can play same here. What I've always I hate to
keep saying this over and over again, and I get
it that we have listeners in and out all the time,
and sometimes I probably feel worse than I should about
repeating myself, but I'll say it again. What I wanted
from Bryce this year is consistence. Consistency has evaded this
entire team in twenty twenty five. I mean, their record
is the definition of it. They're seven and seven, so

(16:10):
the consistency has not been there, and you're right, the
only so I think it's fair to say the only
high level wide receiver he has right now is Tedoro McMillan.
Jalen Coker's coming on. But you're talking about a UDFA
from Holy Cross who's had injury issues, body composition issues.
You know who's been on the field and off the
field for lengthy stretches. Excel has not played up to

(16:32):
his potential, and the tight end room has not been
what I hoped it would be in twenty twenty five,
like so much so that here we are toward the
end of the season and a lot of people are
talking about tight end being a priority this offseason for Carolina.

Speaker 4 (16:46):
Yeah, it doesn't look like JT Sanders worked.

Speaker 5 (16:49):
Do you think they're out on him? I think they are,
you do, Yeah, I don't think they'll of course they
won't say it publicly, but like I know what I'm
getting in Mitchell Evan's Tommy Trimble. But the thing is
there's a cap on how good they can be. Sure,
you haven't ever since Greg Olsen's been let go and
he went to Seattle for that one last two ross
season during COVID, they haven't really had a tight end

(17:12):
that could really be a game breaker, and they've been
trying to find it. You know, they've been going after
high athletic guys. I mean, say what you will about
Ian Thomas, but Ian Thomas was viewed as a high
athletic guy. People wanted him. A lot of people wanted JT. Sanders,
but it just I don't know, man, outside of that
short stretch he had last year, it's been a guy

(17:32):
that just doesn't look like like he can catch thevolve
confidence and all that stuff and get hit with confidence
and it's weird. So that's why I think they're likely
to go elsewhere this offseason. Specifically, I think they're likely
to go in free agency free agency for a tightle Okay, yeah, yeah,
I think they're likely to go therea.

Speaker 2 (17:53):
Okay, all right.

Speaker 3 (17:54):
So an interesting question here from fan guy Dave, who says,
is there any scenario where the game against the Seahawks
is meaningless for Seattle after this weekends, then they bench
their starters against the Panthers.

Speaker 2 (18:05):
I don't think so.

Speaker 3 (18:06):
No, But they play tonight, by the way, in case
you forgot, they've got the Rams tonight, pivotal showdown in
that division. Yeah, yeah, in Seattle, Rams are they're both
eleven and three, all right, so they're they're they're battling
for divisional supremacy for playoff seeding, so if they win,
they're trying to protect it. Well that and you know,
the Rams have been in the number one seed for

(18:28):
the most of the year. Right, So not only are
you talking about hey, no, they need to play this
game no matter what next week, right because they're trying
to get the number one seed by that point. If
they win tonight, it's number one seed or bus for them, right,
And they would be the only team that has a
week off. But you know, because this is in the
days where if your top two seed you get in
a double a bye week.

Speaker 5 (18:49):
No, only the top seed. So yeah, they'll be playing
for a lot, especially if they win.

Speaker 4 (18:55):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (18:55):
No, So I think there's no scenario in which you're
getting a rollover game. And that's where it makes Sunday
against the Bucks like a must win because the Bucks
then turn around and play a Miami Dolphins team that
just benched at starting quarterback is out of the playoff race.
And I mean, it's possible that Miami can beat them,
but I'm certainly not going to bet on it.

Speaker 5 (19:14):
And Seattle's like, for as much as people have talked
about Sam Darnold, Jackson Smith and Jigba and all the
weapons they have on offense, defensively, man, they are nasty
and bad to the bone.

Speaker 3 (19:25):
Yes, across the board, absolutely right, We're way over break
we got to come back. We'll continue the conversation. We'll
take your phone call. Sports Radio ninety two to seven
WFNZ taking names and kicking ass on a Thursday here

(19:50):
on Sports Radio ninety two to seven WFNZ emanating live
from the Chandler VAULTA Studios, the Carolinas Personal Injury Lawyers.
One call. That's all go to CV Injury Law dot com.
KB and Smoke having a good time for those of you.
Saying that Smoke's likely to add to the tight end
room went over my head.

Speaker 2 (20:09):
It did not.

Speaker 3 (20:10):
It's the nineteenth time I've heard him say it in
the last twenty four hours. I know he's alluding to
Isaiah Likely in Baltimore, but like people on the text line,
that went over your head, KB, No, it didn't. He
walked into my office and made that joke yesterday at
Liked one forty five PM. So I promise you it's
not the first time I've heard that one.

Speaker 4 (20:27):
I think I made that two weeks ago two.

Speaker 2 (20:29):
That then it might have flown over my head. I'll
grant you that.

Speaker 5 (20:32):
I feel like ever since Mark Andrews signed his deal,
I've been wanting Isaiah Likely.

Speaker 2 (20:36):
That's true.

Speaker 5 (20:36):
You have and I don't. I think you know the
last two years don't show how good of a player
he is. So yes, give me Isaiah likely.

Speaker 2 (20:43):
Yep, yep.

Speaker 3 (20:43):
Absolutely. Also earlier in the show, let me address a
couple of questions here. We have had a few folks
joined into the show saying, KB, have you guys talked
about Greg Biffel today?

Speaker 2 (20:52):
We did.

Speaker 3 (20:53):
We talked about it for about the first thirty minutes
of the show if you missed it. NASCAR legend, one
of the great competitors of this and motorsports in general.
Greg Biffle, who was a hero this time a year
ago and continues to be because of his work and
his part of the relief effort following Hurricane a Lean
last year in the mountains of western North Carolina, unfortunately

(21:14):
died earlier today with his family aboard a Cessna C
five point fifty airplane at Statesfull Regional Airport. That's been
confirmed throughout the afternoon. Our hearts are broken, Greg Biffle.
No one deserves to go out that way, certainly not
after what he did. And we spent a good deal
of time talking about him and his legacy and his impact.
Earlier in the show, and I'll be honest with you,

(21:36):
I'm not sure I can handle doing it a second
time in the end of the show because it's incredibly emotional.
But we are heartbroken for his family and his friends,
and our deepest condolences and sympathy and love and prayers
go out to Greg Biffle, his family and everybody who
loved and knew him. So it's a difficult transition to make.
But we also had some fun earlier in the show
talking about Turk Wharton's freak injury in a walkthrough last

(21:58):
week that may keep him out again this week against
the Tampa Bay Bucks. He reportedly, and according to Dave Canalis,
tripped over the foot of a teammate during walkthrough, tweaked
his hamstring, didn't play against the Saints and did not
practice today, which doesn't bode well for Sunday's game against Tampa.
But we did have some fun with the funniest and
most bizarre freak injuries in sports history, So if you'd

(22:20):
like to send us yours on the text line, we
will certainly take them. What we found was that there
were a whole lot of baseball players that have suffered
freak injuries throughout the course of sports, not only baseball players,
but a lot of baseball players, guys like Sammy Sosas
sneezing too hard back in two thousand and four and
throwing out his back and missing multiple games. Clint Barnes

(22:42):
Rockies two thousand and five slipped on the stairs while
carrying deer meat, broke his collarbone, missed opening day. Joel'
Zuzumaya two thousand and six Detroit Tigers got injured playing
guitar Hero injured, literally injured his wrist playing guitar Hero
placed on the injured list. Lots and lots of baseball
players who got hurt. Plexico Buris, of course, became very

(23:05):
popular on the text line. The accidental nightclub shooting of
himself in two thousand and eight would miss the season
and would later serve jail time. Of course, Vince Young
one I missed earlier, Vince Young injuring his thumb playing
Madden in the locker room in two thousand and eight
while quarterback of the Tennessee Titans. That one got pretty
popular on the text line too. The great Mystery of

(23:27):
Jeff Kent, who is now a Hall of Famer quote unquote,
washing his truck back in two thousand and two, but
most people around the organization knew that he wrecked his motorcycle,
but they were calling it something else altogether.

Speaker 5 (23:40):
By the way, we didn't even mention Steve Sparks in
the phone book. Oh so, I don't know if you
remember this one during spring training in nineteen ninety four.

Speaker 2 (23:49):
That's a good one.

Speaker 5 (23:49):
Sparks attempted to rip a phone book in half. The
only tearing accomplished was further cartilage damage.

Speaker 3 (23:58):
I think what were the local ones that we mentioned,
James Bookknight, Zane Gonzalez, Zane Gonzalez. Yep, the James Booknight
though punching the TV.

Speaker 2 (24:10):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (24:10):
You know they didn't exactly report it that way at
the time, but yeah, he punched a TV and tore
up his hand. I think me even the ligament in
his hand potentially if I remember correctly.

Speaker 2 (24:19):
So.

Speaker 3 (24:19):
There were a couple of Charlotte sports related examples that
came in during that discussion as well. But if you
have a funny or bizarre sports injury from a bygone era,
please send it in seven h four five seven ninety
six to ten, And yes, we did get Bill Grammatica
getting hurt celebrating a field goal, and I think Smoke

(24:40):
was the first person to bring that up. The celebration failed,
but not Martin. We have people texting in Martin Grammatica.
It was Bill Grammatica who got hurt during.

Speaker 4 (24:47):
Martine would get excited.

Speaker 5 (24:48):
Bill just took it to an extreme, Like, I don't
know who is more extreme inder celebrations at that time period,
Bill Gramatica or Koy Dettmer, because cooid Dettmer would have
like the le uh the Legend of Zoro type celebration
where he'd have he swinging his sword. Wait, looked like
the dumbest thing ever. But yeah, you had those two guys.

(25:13):
Oh yeah, of course, I gotta think Sharon Fordley because
you mentioned my probably the best one, Chris Robinson with
the acts Oh yeah, into Jaguars locker room. Yeah, so yeah,
I think that one's definitely up there.

Speaker 3 (25:26):
Oh jose Canseco cleaning his pistol, didn't clear it, shot
his finger off.

Speaker 2 (25:30):
We got to bat one too.

Speaker 5 (25:32):
Oh my gosh, I did not. I forgot about this one.
Padre's picture. Adam Eaton found himself in the wrong end
of a battle with a new DVD case stabbing himself
in the stomach.

Speaker 3 (25:45):
He he stabbed himself in the stomach with a DVD case.

Speaker 5 (25:50):
It's probably giving him trouble, Like you remember those old
DVD cases and all the damn stickers they'd have around
him to make sure you wouldn't open it.

Speaker 4 (25:57):
Like, yeah, I can see that.

Speaker 5 (26:01):
I don't know what part would stab him in, like
what type of DVD case he had, but yeah, yeah,
that's good.

Speaker 3 (26:06):
Four seven zero numbers saying, wasn't it Brian Greasy that
tripped over his dog?

Speaker 2 (26:09):
I think it was.

Speaker 5 (26:11):
Yeah, someone literally just called and said he chipped his tooth.
But that guy said he was drunk when it happened. Well,
still counts though, Yeah, okay, and still of course it counts.

Speaker 1 (26:20):
Oh.

Speaker 3 (26:21):
Jason Pierre Paul blowing his hand off with the fireworks
also came in quite a few times. There're one or
two others. Trevor Bauer cutting his hand while repairing a
drone and missing multiple starts.

Speaker 2 (26:32):
That was a good one too.

Speaker 3 (26:33):
Dustin Johnson falling down the stairs at Augusta injuring his back.
Another funny one likes the paycheck Tony Fenow spraining his
ankle celebrating a hole in one.

Speaker 5 (26:44):
Oh yeah, and then he popped it back into place
on live TV.

Speaker 2 (26:47):
But he dislocated the ankle.

Speaker 5 (26:50):
Yeah, I think that's what. Yeah, he dislocated it. Yeah,
I didn't remember that. No, it was there in a
park three contest. I knew it was the part three
that I thought. I didn't know he dislocated it. I
thought he sprained the ankle. It was pretty it was
either way it was bad.

Speaker 2 (27:02):
Did he pop it back into play good?

Speaker 5 (27:05):
I'll give you a good one. Milton Bradley. Uh, he
towards a c L when he got injected. Yeah he did. Yeah,
he did, which is the most Milton Bradley wait for
him to get hurt. Yeah, I like it all right.

Speaker 3 (27:16):
Let's go to the phone lines real quick. Panther Bow
was up next here on this Thursday. Panther Bow, what's
going on?

Speaker 6 (27:21):
Pick a B doing well? Appreciate you taking my call, Yes, sir,
Hey just wanted to say, and at the risk of
sounding I think what ame Patel called me a like
w F and Z jocksniffing redneck or something like that.

Speaker 1 (27:34):
Whatever, When did that?

Speaker 2 (27:36):
Whoa whoa whoa?

Speaker 3 (27:37):
We cannot have domestic infighting. Well among the w f
Z family. What happened there?

Speaker 6 (27:42):
No, no, no, it's all good. We started squabbling. I
was trying to defend panther Fitti, and uh you know,
he was kind of like, stay out of this, you know,
and I'm like, well, you can get looking at my feet.
You're cussing at my guy. I mean, I gotta tell
you, you know, you know, but it wasn't my saying. That's
you and C on you and C stuff. So it's
all good.

Speaker 3 (27:59):
Okay, all right, listen, listen, me and that have had
our dust ups over the years now, so I'm more
than happy to jump in on your behalf I need to.

Speaker 2 (28:06):
But anyway, Percie, go ahead.

Speaker 6 (28:08):
It all it's all good stuff. I mean, it's you know,
it's the internet, so it's like how much time do
you really have on your hands? And you're going to
have to defend out It is what it is. But
uh no, what I what I was going for and
when I was trying to say, is man, you you
really some of these times when we have these tragedies
KB and I gotta tell you I didn't grow up
a huge NASCAR guy. I called them lately because I

(28:29):
love end of the smoke, and you know you can
get into those sports even later in your life. But
I just knew Biffle from what he did for the
western part of Carolina's and the way you know, the
beginning of the show. Anyone that didn't listen, go back
and listen. I thought that was really well said. Did
you always not just everybody on the show, But I
know you guys have a weak communication skills. You guys
did a great job. But you know, I think you

(28:50):
guys just when these things happen and you really don't
know how to stay it in the words, I think
you guys find it and you put it in a
really good context. So I know this is the time
of year where everyone's looking back and you're kind of
reflecting on the gear, and you know, there's a lot
of things that you've had some ups and downs, and
you know you can be thankful and you know all
that stuff for the things that you do have. But
you know, I just thought that was pretty pretty well said.

(29:13):
And as far as the Panthers actually have a sports
take here, you know, we've seen it. If we're looking
at the season as a whole, you know, with a
crystal ball here or of snow globe if you will,
and you shake it up. You've seen it when it
looks pretty and it looks great, and it looks like
a team that could beat anybody. So it's still there.
I believe it's still in there. So I mean, we

(29:33):
don't know what's going to happen, obviously, but at the
same time, I wouldn't give up the faith yet. I
think they might have something to say by the end
of the season, if not at least for something for
confidence doing in the next year, but you know, for
experience as well. So I'm looking forward to it.

Speaker 2 (29:48):
Appreciate, thank you, Thank you, Bud. I appreciate the phone call.

Speaker 3 (29:50):
I mean, listen, Sundays must win for me and I
think for almost everybody else. You got to win this game.
You got to find a way to win this game
because you you can't count on Tampa losing the next
week to Miami, right, you just can't. You got to
win this game, so you know, that's the bottom line.
You gotta find a way, and I think they can.

(30:12):
Tampa's certainly beatable. They've looked immensely. They have been beaten
multiple times recently. They're not the team we thought they were.
Eight weeks ago. But they've also got talent, and they've
been here before and they've won the division multiple times
now in a row. So you know, to be the champs,
you got to beat the champs and that's the opportunity
in front of them on Sunday at Bank of America Stadium.

Speaker 2 (30:30):
Why are you smirking at me?

Speaker 4 (30:32):
I think I found the dumbest injury of all time.

Speaker 2 (30:35):
What is it?

Speaker 4 (30:36):
Former Diamondbacks pitcher Brian Anderson?

Speaker 2 (30:38):
What do he do?

Speaker 4 (30:40):
Well?

Speaker 5 (30:41):
I don't remember that it was him, and someone just
mentioned it because I think John Smultz did to say
a similar thing. But he picked up the iron, you know,
an ironing machine, and held it to his face close iron. Yeah,
oh I remember that, Okay, and held it who was
faced to feel the heat?

Speaker 2 (31:02):
Oh man? We call that a Darwin Award.

Speaker 3 (31:05):
I'm pretty sure we infirned themselves, as you would expect.
That's a nominee for the Darwin Award for being honest
about things. Seven oh four, five, seven ninety six to
ten seven oh four numbers saying KB, you know, we'll
beat the Bucks and then we'll get our hopes up
and then we'll lose to the Bucks.

Speaker 2 (31:20):
That's the way this goes. Maybe.

Speaker 3 (31:22):
I mean, you know, they they've been going win loss,
win loss, so if that aligns, then they're winning the
division by the same token.

Speaker 5 (31:28):
Somebody, So he's saying they lose the second game, right,
I know, No, they lose the second game to the Bucks.
You made it sound like that they were going to
win both Bucks games and still win a division if
they If they split, they lose a division.

Speaker 2 (31:43):
I know.

Speaker 3 (31:44):
All I'm saying is if you just go with what
they've been doing, that they'll beat the Bucks twice. That's
what I was trying to say. But somebody earlier in
the show said KB, the problem is whenever this team
needs to win a game, they don't win the game, right.
They only win games when they're not supposed to win
the game. When they need to win the game, when
the expectations are theyre going to win the game, they
don't win the game.

Speaker 2 (32:04):
So I don't know, I don't know, I don't know.

Speaker 3 (32:06):
Like, they just got to go play football, and they
got to go play sound, smart football and not commit
eleven penalties and not make stupid decisions and key moments
like they just they have to be that team if
they're going to win this game on Sunday. I know
it's kind of out of left field, but I have
been meaning to talk about this all day and a
bit more yesterday, and somebody just asked us about it

(32:29):
on the text line. They said, have you guys talked
about the possibility of Biff Pogi getting the Michigan job
full time? We mentioned it yesterday. He is lobbying for
that job in n Arbor, and he is very well
liked up there, I mean beloved up there. There are
players that are are vouching for him, that want him
to be the coach. Now, I think it comes down
to what Bryce Underwood wants. Maybe not exclusively that, but

(32:51):
in large part they want to keep Bryce Underwood in
the fold. But if you can't justify that, can they?
How do you justify giving that job to Biff Poge?

Speaker 2 (33:04):
Can you? Because I've been thinking about this.

Speaker 3 (33:07):
He's got it, He's there in a lot of respect
up there, He's beloved, but.

Speaker 5 (33:12):
You know he's not the guy long term, right, It's
the only way you're a Michigan Yeah.

Speaker 4 (33:17):
The only way I.

Speaker 5 (33:18):
Think you can justify it is we don't have We're
probably not gonna have an ad because I think Ward
Manual is going to be gone due to all the
scandals going on at Michigan over the last decade.

Speaker 4 (33:29):
Yeah. Uh, I think the.

Speaker 5 (33:32):
Way you go about it is all right, we're going
to basically just going a year long campaign and he's
essentially taking the road that Frank Reich did last year.

Speaker 2 (33:43):
I don't think you can do that.

Speaker 3 (33:46):
They're Michigan, I know, And I'm not a Michigan fan.
I'm not like upholding the block m and you know
just that that's not me. I don't care about Michigan
like that. But you're Michigan.

Speaker 4 (33:56):
You see.

Speaker 3 (33:57):
Hey, we're just gonna let We're just gonna see what
Biff's got for a you what, Michigan.

Speaker 5 (34:03):
But if he does get the job, they got to
let him breathe at least one game. Oh the cutoff, Yes,
let them breathe. Yeah, I've been thinking about this all day.
That was the worst part about him being the head
coach last time was they they told him, no way,
you're let wearing that cutoff shirt.

Speaker 3 (34:23):
Like, what's he telling them up there? Well, hey, guys,
I know that I was terrible at Charlotte, But that's
all their fault. They don't have any money, and it's
an upstart program and I never stood a chance. How
are you selling them on your tenure in Charlotte if
you're bif Pogi, well that I know I suck there,
But it's because they're broken. They have no tradition, and
you know, I've been here, I know what this place
is like.

Speaker 4 (34:43):
How do you That's probably the only way you go
about it.

Speaker 3 (34:45):
Does Jim Harbaugh go Do they care if Jim Harbaugh
goes to bat for him after what just happened with
Sharon Moore?

Speaker 4 (34:51):
Yeah, because he won him a national title.

Speaker 3 (34:54):
Okay, I mean these are just things that I'm thinking about.
But how on earth could you sell that to that
fan base. I don't think you can. I don't believe
you could sell that to that fan base. Nascar Bral
just said Biff would be the Michigan version of coach Oh,
I don't know about that. All Right, we're out of time.

(35:16):
Let's go to smoke on the headlines.

Speaker 5 (35:20):
All right, we're in We're right in the middle of
ball season right now. Two Bowl games happened last night.
First off, Old Dominion beat South Florida twenty four to ten,
capping off arguably the best year in Monarch's football history,
especially in FBS and the sixty eight Ventures Bowl. Last night,
Delaware defeated the rage in Cajuns twenty to thirteen. Only

(35:43):
one game tonight, Kyle, And it's a game that means
a lot, especially if you're playing in It's this game,
unsurprisingly did not have that many opt outs.

Speaker 4 (35:53):
The Xbox Bowl.

Speaker 5 (35:55):
Gee, I wonder why xboxes galore? And it's between Missouri
State in Arkansas State. Butch Jones, the champion of life, Kyle.
Do you think Butch Jones will win this game?

Speaker 4 (36:09):
I didn't get.

Speaker 5 (36:10):
I have no idea, but you have no idea, no one.
Thanks for sure. He's a champion of life.

Speaker 2 (36:15):
He is that.

Speaker 3 (36:16):
He's a champion of life. Let's see tomorrow we get
the Myrtle Beach Bowl, Kennesau State, Western Michigan.

Speaker 4 (36:23):
Great year for Knnessas State by the.

Speaker 3 (36:24):
Way, Yeah absolutely, Memphis en c State tomorrow in the
gas Parilla Bowl, sorry, the Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl.

Speaker 5 (36:34):
And that'll be on while we're on the year because
tomorrow night's the first playoff game, which I will not
be watching.

Speaker 2 (36:40):
Smoke says he's boycotting the game tomorrow night.

Speaker 4 (36:42):
By the way, as a really boycotting the Alabama game.

Speaker 3 (36:44):
By the way, I don't believe you that you're not
gonna watch the game.

Speaker 5 (36:48):
I'm not gonna watch one second. You won't You want
me to video record myself. No, I'm not gonna know.
I don't want that, I don't need that. I'm not
gonna watch that. I'm a man of my word. If
they make it to the next round, I'm not watching the.

Speaker 3 (36:58):
I'm gonna text your dad. I'm gonna find out if
you want the game. I'm gonna find out. All right,
We'll come back and wrap up the show. Sports Radio

got one more show tomorrow, and then it's the weekend.
We got the Panthers and the Bucks on Sunday. Of course,

(37:49):
just another reminder that we only get so many of
these during the year. We love them. We try to
take full advantage of them. I know you do too.
But countdown to kickoff Sunday morning, ten A at the
wf and Z Doghouse, powered by Jack Daniels, ME and
Mack KB and Mack on a Sunday morning, the only
Panthers pregame coverage you'll ever need. Come out and see us,

(38:09):
Come party with us. The weather should be awesome, especially
for this time of year. Supposed to be low to
mid sixties for the game on Sunday, which you know,
I was good, but I kind of wish it was
colder to make Tampa Bay just a little bit more uncomfortable.
But you know, is what it is. So we'll get
nice weather for the game on Sunday. Ten to one.
Countdown to kickoff. If you can't be there, join us

(38:29):
right here on ninety two to seven wfn Z and
on the stream and speaking of getting pumped on, the
text line says this is all an opportunity for Carolina
to see how they really are if they want to be.
What good is going to the playoffs? If you're good
or think you are, I got gotta reread that. So okay,

(38:53):
So you're basically saying, find out who you really are.
What good is going to the playoffs if you're good
or think you are.

Speaker 2 (39:01):
Okay, maybe I'm.

Speaker 3 (39:02):
Just gon resind that because I thought I liked the
sentiment there, but now I'm confused as to what you're
trying to say.

Speaker 4 (39:09):
They are who we thought they were?

Speaker 2 (39:11):
Is that what you're trying to say?

Speaker 4 (39:12):
And we let them off the hook?

Speaker 3 (39:13):
Like, I don't care what anybody says. Going to the
playoffs is objectively a good thing. I don't care if
there's an accusation of backing in winning a bad division,
I couldn't care less, doesn't matter, shouldn't matter to any
Panthers fan out there.

Speaker 2 (39:26):
Who cares what.

Speaker 3 (39:27):
People think about this division and the team that emerges
from it. It's the NFL. You win the division, you're
the champs. You get a home playoff game, and you
get an opportunity to win a playoff game in advance
and in a one off who knows they got to
get there first. We know, still a bit of an
uphill climb. And really Sunday is everything because if you
win this game, your odds and they're just the odds,

(39:49):
but they jump to like forty five percent of making
the playoffs. If you lose this game, your playoff odds
dropped to like five percent, right, So we know what
it's all about. Everything is on the line on Sunday.
I ca wait to get over there and get in there,
and you know, see what the crowd looks like, see
what the Panthers how they start. I think it was
a niche earlier making the point that Carolina's got believe,
nine opening drive touchdowns was the number he gave us

(40:11):
so far this year. Critical to get off to a
good start. Now we've seen this team score on the
opening drive and still lose games. So it's not all
about the opening drive but both yeah, exactly. But getting
off to a big start will be critical in this
Bucks game, as it always is each and every time.
So ten am countdown to kickoff WFNZ Doghouse powered by
Jack Daniels. It's always a good time. We hope to

(40:32):
see you there, and just a reminder that to get
us wherever you get your podcasts, Apple, Spotify, Google Search,

(40:54):
Today we tip our caps to Greg Biffel, as earlier
today he and his family were killed in a plane
crash at the States Full Regional Airport up in Iredell
County in a tragic scene, a tragic event. Greg Biffle
is the definition and the epitome of an American hero.

(41:15):
You know him for his time in NASCAR and motorsports.
Great competitor, great race car driver, but an even better
family man and humanitarian after what he did as part
of the Hurricane of Lean relief efforts a little over
a year ago in the mountains of western North Carolina.
The cruel twist of irony in this is that he
died at the same airport that he was landing and

(41:36):
taking off from countless times a year ago on rescue missions,
air dropping food and medicine and other supplies to our
fellow North Carolinians who were stranded throughout those mountains following
a devastating storm that wreaked havoc throughout the region. Greg
Biffle was, by all accounts a great man, and we

(41:59):
are heartbroken that this happened to him and to his family,
and our deepest condolences and sympathies and all of our
love and prayers go out to Greg Biffle and his family.
He will be missed greatly. They all will rest in peace.
We know they're in heaven today. We'll talk to you
tomorrow for smoke. I'm KB Sports Radio ninety two seven,
w F and Z Willing, Yeah, Sean Ketslowski trying to willing,

(42:22):
It's not sticking.

Speaker 2 (42:25):
Fraig Michel entered the race second in the championship.

Speaker 1 (42:29):
He leaves with the point lead. Bechel wins at Michigan
at Ketswlowski barely over Kay for a second
