Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the Kyle Bailey Show, powered by Victory Chevy Charlotte,
where every month is Truck Month.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
Victory Chevy Charlotte your Silverado destination.

Speaker 3 (00:22):
Oh, we got some fired up Carolina Panthers fans about
the fifty three man roster, which was brought to us
about an hour and a half ago. Cut down deadline
four pm today. The fifty three man is set for now.
Hunter Renfro, the Clemson legend, did not make the fifty
three man, at least not for now. For those of
you again freaking out about that, it's far from over.

(00:42):
My conversation with Hunter a couple of weeks ago, and
I'm not the only one, indicates that he really only
wants to play here. Now that could change. If you
really want to play football, maybe he'll go somewhere else.
But he's a vested veteran. He doesn't have to clear waivers.
I think there's a world in which he's back in
the next forty eight hours. Maybe maybe not. We shall see.
We come back to that in due time. We'll talk
about the roster. But it's Week one of college football.

(01:05):
We have some great games on the slate, and we
got to talk about them. Right now with our buddy
Danny Canell, CBS Sports, CBS Sports Network, college football analyst,
Sirius XM host and of course, former college and pro
quarterback Danny Canell with us courtesy a bet online. Check
out betonline dot ag for updated college football playoff win totals,
Conference Heisman and college football Week one lines.

Speaker 4 (01:28):
And it's good to have him back on the show.
Danny Canell, how'd you been? Have you been?

Speaker 1 (01:30):
Man?

Speaker 4 (01:30):
Happy football?

Speaker 1 (01:32):
We happy football. Indeed, it's like happy New Year, like
we got a whole new season on the brink. We
had a nice little appetizer last week with Week zero,
a massive, massive Week one slate. It's great to be
honest with you, man, it's been a minute.

Speaker 4 (01:44):
I love it.

Speaker 3 (01:44):
It has been a minute, and I appreciate you doing it.
And look forward to these conversations every year. And I'm
going to start with Monday and work my way back
for a second, because Bill Belichick and the tar Heels,
as you well know, a very hot topic of conversation
here in North Carolina.

Speaker 4 (01:58):
I don't know what to make of them.

Speaker 3 (02:00):
I'm guessing and I'm acknowledging that upfront I could see
this team winning four games or eleven games. I really
don't know. They have a lot of new pieces, a
lot of new players. I do think, Danny, there are
some fans under selling TCU Monday Night. They've got like
sixty percent of their starters back at some key positions.
Sonny Diykes is a good coach. This is a game
that I'm worried about. If I'm a Carolina fan. What

(02:20):
is your take on this game Monday Night?

Speaker 1 (02:23):
So, Kyle, I think you're onto something because I do feel,
for whatever reason, I feel like it's boom or bust
for Carolina. Like when you said four or eleven, I
was thinking kind of four ten like, and I don't
know if there's just a seven or eight win season
in there, you know, like, which is kind of what
they've been under the MATC.

Speaker 4 (02:41):
Brown tenure.

Speaker 1 (02:42):
But I do feel like you could get that upside surprise,
and clearly you could get that disaster. But I really
don't know. Here's the one thing I'll say about the
TCU game, and this is where I think it's a
huge edge for North Carolina. We're talking about one of
the best all time, not only head coaches, but one
of the best defense to minds in the sport of

(03:02):
football that we've seen great the sideline. I'll give you
an example. The last time, my last start in the
NFL was on a Monday night football game. I was
playing with the Denver Broncos. I was into action as
a backup and I started against the New England Patriots.
And I remember Gary Kubiak was our offensive coordinator and
he was getting me ready to face the Bill Belichick defense,

(03:22):
and he said, this is going to be the biggest
task you've got mentally of any game on the schedule,
because Bill is going to throw the kitchen sink at you,
and he's going to throw you something that you've never
seen before. And sure enough he did. He gave a
lot of different looks stuff that we had to game
plan for adjust to on the fly, and it was tough.

(03:42):
And that's the type of mentality where you've got TCU
who likes to throw the ball around. They've got you know,
the Big twelve is littered with really good quarterbacks. Josh
Hoover is one of those really good quarterbacks who put
up great numbers last year. But this is where you've
had extra time to prepare. They've had an entire offseason
to break down Sonny Dyke's the offense to throw some

(04:03):
things that are going to confuse Josh Hoover to make
some big plays while your offense is kind of figuring
its way. So I think this is a game where
you actually should feel pretty good about the edge you
have a coach, because you've had this entire training camp
to prepare specifically for this game. Then I think it'll
get a little bit more challenging because what you want
to do, or with Bill Belichick has always done historically

(04:25):
in the NFL, is really throw a lot of different
looks at you throughout the course of a season. That's
not typically what you see in the college game because
there's not enough time. You don't go from nine o'clock
till six o'clock in the building. You've got to go
to class, Who've got other requirements. You've got to do.
That to me becomes the bigger thing. But I do
think this is a big opportunity and for them to
start off on the right foot against PCU, all.

Speaker 4 (04:46):
Right right there with you.

Speaker 3 (04:47):
Now, let me go to Clemson and LSU coming up
on Saturday night. I think Clemson's the real deal. I
expect them to win this game. I'm not a Brian
Kelly believer. I don't think LSU is going to be
able to run the foot ball this year, and I'm
not sure their defense is that much better, even though
their fans are telling us that's the case. I think
Clemson wins this game by ten plus on Saturday Night?

Speaker 4 (05:08):
What's your read?

Speaker 5 (05:09):
Who?

Speaker 1 (05:10):
I love the optimism, Kyle, because I actually have Clemson
going all the way to the National Championship game. Like
I am a believer in this squad, I find myself
also drawn to Dabbo the way that he's built this
program kind of doing things the quote right way, by
not going to portal heavy on the season and you know,
really developing from within. Here's the one thing. So I'm like,

(05:31):
you're like, you're preaching the choir right now. Like I
love this Clemson team. Here's the one thing that if
we're both wrong, it is wrong on the defensive side
of the ball. So like last year and everybody's talking
about TJ. Parker and Peter Woods, guys that are first
round talent that are on that defensive side of the ball,
they were there last year and this team could not
get off the field versus the run. They were second

(05:53):
to last in the ACC defending the run. LSU is
going to want to run the football. That's the one
one thing that makes me nervous. Now that being said,
they brought in Tom Allen. They cleaned house on the
defensive side of the ball on the staff to bring
in a new defensive coordinator with a new mindset. So like,
they should get better, but they've got to get dramatically
better if they want to obtain their goals. I feel

(06:16):
very confident in cag Plubnick and the offense. The offensive
line brings back a ton of experience. Their receiving corps
might be one of the best collectively as a group
with TJ. Moore, Bryant Westco and Antonio Williams across the board.
And I feel like Kate is one of those more
mature quarterbacks who can trust. But here's the only butt.
They were zero to three against the SEC last year,

(06:36):
so this is a huge opportunity for them to get
that taste out of their mouth and start the season
off on the right foot. I do like Clemson to
win this game. I don't know if I'm quite as
confident as you to go over there and say they
win by double digits. But I do think they get
it done in the real Death Valley.

Speaker 3 (06:50):
I hear you, Danny Canell with us courtesy you bet online,
talking about a massive Week one in college football. Now
Sunday right, I'm headed down to Atlanta for Virginia South Carolina.
There are two games I want to talk about on
Sunday with you. I'll start with that when then we'll
get to the Irish and the Hurricanes. But I as
you know, I mean, I'm a Virginia Tech fan, so
there's a lot of heart involved here. But I do

(07:11):
think that Brent Prying Company are going to go down
and give South Carolina everything they've got. I think these
are there's a chance they win the game. But you know,
I do understand South Carolina overall is considered to be
the better team. What are you looking for in this game?

Speaker 1 (07:25):
I want to see a more consistent Virginia Tech team.
I mean, this is member last year. At this time,
I think I was probably talking about him just like
everybody else was. It was a dark horse contender, in
large part because you want to side from Kyron drones.
The previous year he showed so much potential and then
last year, he's banged up and he's kind of a
little bit more inconsistent, which makes total sense. I want

(07:46):
to see more of a consistent effort from the quarterback,
and I want to see a defense. I mean, you've
got to remember Brent Prior is a defensive minded coach.
I mean, that's where he kind of cut his teeth,
came in well known to be a defensive coordinator. I
want to see a team that is up to the
task defensely, that gets those big stops, and they're going
to have their hands full with the Leonora Sellers, who's
one of these one to many quarterbacks across the country

(08:08):
who we've seen flashes of brilliance. Everybody thinks they're going
to take this huge step forward, but we don't know
for certain if that's going to happen. Now. We saw
him run all over Clemson in that Clemson South Carolina game.
But then in the bowl game, you saw Illinois do
a really good job and it was one of the
reasons they won the game. They did in an outstanding
job containing that quarterback, making them win from within the pocket,

(08:29):
making sure they didn't give up the big plays. I
am sure that is something that Brent Pryce is preaching
to his defense, you cannot let the quarterback get outside
the pocket. Let's force him to beat us from inside
the pocket. And if they do, they could have a
huge opportunity to pull off that upset. And if they do,
that is a massive, massive win for the ACC in
a game that a lot of people aren't giving Virginia

(08:49):
Tech much credit. South Carolina is a trendy team that
people think is going to have a big year this
season for the SEC. That would be huge for the
ACC and as well for Virginia Tech.

Speaker 3 (08:58):
All right, now, speaking of the miam win is something
I know the Conference is really hoping on, maybe even
counting on. On Sunday, the Carson Beck led Hurricanes. I've
always been a Mario Cristobal skeptic, but he certainly got
a loaded roster. And then Marcus Freeman. I mean, I'm
a believer last year's national runner up. They got some questions,
but who doesn't at this time of year? What is
your read on Miami and Notre Dame?

Speaker 1 (09:20):
So this one I think is huge. I think it
means more for Miami. Right Miami's playing at home, even
though they're an underdog. This feels like a game that
could really propel them into a really strong season. Like
if they win this game, you get a feather in
your cap, you get a big win under your belt.
Because remember in the first month of the season, they
play Notre Dame and then they play the Florida Gators

(09:41):
at home, so they have a huge opportunity to get
some big wins. They played Florida's eight in the fifth
game of the season, so it's almost like if they
win this that could propel them, they build confidence. If
they lose it, I do worry. What what conversation about
Miami is, man, they have this opportunity at home, they
came up short, Like, why didn't they win the game?

(10:01):
And the reason I would say, if they don't win
the game, it's because their defense can't get off the
field versus a Notre Dame offense, which is breaking in
a new quarterback in CJ.

Speaker 6 (10:10):
Carr.

Speaker 1 (10:10):
But they do have probably the best running back in
the country in Jeremiah Love, who is a dynamic back.
He's a playmaker, he's tough, he played injured the back
end the last season, and he can put the team
on his back. But if Miami's defense, which was a
FIV Last year, they couldn't stop anybody. It's one of
the reasons they went out, got a bunch of players
in the portal, brought in a new defensive coordinator from

(10:31):
Minnesota who had a top ten defense last year for Minnesota.
That's the big question mark for me. That is supposed
to be the big area of improvement. The defense has
to turn this into a game that's competitive in the
fourth quarter, and if you get the best version of
Carson Beck, that's the formula for success. But that's a
great unknown because they lost six of their top receivers

(10:52):
from last year, They're breaking in a bunch of new
guys in the portal, and Carson Beck's coming back off
of major elbow surgery. So I think there's a at
steak from Miami. I like Notre Dame's pedigree, their ability
to win some of these tough games on the road
last year. They did it against Texas and m early
in the season. I like Notre Dames slightly, but I
think this is going to be one of those games

(11:13):
that comes down of the wire. My favorite playing that
game is the under. I think it's going to be
a defensive blood bath for both those defenses banging on each.

Speaker 3 (11:19):
Other makes sense to me. Two quick things, I'll get
you out of here, State and ECU on Thursday night.
Dave Doran has made no bones about it. He did
not like the way his team conducted themselves against the ECU.
Like literally, the last team they played was ECU in
the Military Bowl. They'll play him again on Thursday night.
They've got CJ. Bailey, Hollywood's Moothers, Noah Rodgers, tight End Jolly.
I mean, they got guys coming back here, but nobody

(11:41):
really seems to believe in NC State.

Speaker 4 (11:43):
What's your take?

Speaker 1 (11:44):
So I think they're flying under the radar. It was
interesting on my Cover three podcast we were doing win totals,
and if you look at the history of Dave Dorian,
last season was more than nominally. The more normal is
that he's eight nine and pushing for, you know, a
double digit win season, so I kind of expected them
to get back on that track. You mentioned CJ. Bailey,
who's a really talented quarterback who's young. They're kind of

(12:05):
just starting to develop him, which I think is the
right move to make. They've got some returning pieces. The defense,
probably for me, is a bigger disappointment. Last season, but
they are one of those teams that historically has been
really physical upfront. And boy, you talk about a must
win game. Because of the way that bowl game unfolded,
because of some of the trash that was talked, it
almost feels like a must win situation for Dave Doring

(12:28):
and the wolf Pack if they want to get back
towards that eight to nine win type of season.

Speaker 3 (12:32):
All right, last thing, Danny, You've known me long enough
to know that I have a lot of respect for
the Florida State football program. I do think Mike Norvel
is a good football coach, and I respect Gus Malazan's career.
But I'm not a Thomas Castellanos believer?

Speaker 4 (12:44):
Are you? And why.

Speaker 1 (12:47):
I am doubtful? Like I have my concerns about Thomas Cottslano's.
I'll tell you why Florida State and this makes sense.
I used to see this all the time in the NFL.
When you play really good against the team that's their
best memory of you, and that kind of sticks in
their head. Thomas Costellano's almost beat Florida State in Boston
College two years ago. Last year he goes into Tallahassee

(13:09):
beats him out right, and he played great in both
of those games. And so if you're Mike Norvella and Cruz,
you're looking at that tape and you remembering what he
did against you and you're thinking, man, this kid's a playmaker.
He is an absolute headache. The problem was there was
a much bigger body of work, right, It was a
little bit more up and down, and he did make
some mistakes in some other games. And the one thing, too, Kyle,

(13:30):
that I've heard a lot, but how many times have
we heard, oh, this is the quarterback that fits Gus
Maleson's system. Like we've heard that a bunch of times before,
going back to his time at UCF. There were other
quarterbacks at Auburn and they didn't always work out great. So,
like I've heard that narrative a bunch, I want to
see it work for once. And I do think one
thing that is a good news for Florida State is

(13:51):
I do think Gus Maleson being able to just focus
on the offense and just be the offensive coordinator kind
of get back to his roots. He doesn't have to
worry about managing the whole team. I think that could
be a good thing for Florida State, and it's one
reason I give him a little bit of a chance
in this Alabama game, where they're, you know, almost a
two touchdown underdog, they better have some scheme stuff that
some misdirections, some stuff that Alabama hasn't seen and been

(14:13):
able to prepare for. Because Alabama definitely has the clear
advantage on the offensive and defensive lines. That's where Florida
State's going to have to kind of pull some tricks
out of their hat to make that game competitive.

Speaker 3 (14:24):
Danny can't wait for the weekend. Thank you as always
for the time.

Speaker 7 (14:27):
Brother.

Speaker 4 (14:27):
Enjoy yourself this weekend. We'll talk to you soon.

Speaker 1 (14:30):
Appreciate it, Kyle, enjoy the games. We'll catch up soon.

Speaker 4 (14:32):
Absolutely.

Speaker 3 (14:33):
Danny Canell, CBS Sports, CBS Sports Network, and of course
you know Florida State, New York Giants quarterback. I had
a text for a minute ago tell me that Danny's
his favorite Seminole of all time and that to refer
to him as seminoles legend Danny Canell. So there you go,
Siminole's legend. Danny Canell with us courtesy of bet Online.
Check out bet online for updated college football playoff win totals,

(14:56):
Conference Heisman and College.

Speaker 4 (14:58):
Football Week one line.

Speaker 3 (15:00):
Big thanks to Danny Canell for stopping by seven oh
four five seven ninety six to ten. Hit us up
on the fan duel text line. I just had a
Gamecock fan named Slapping Cheeks promise me that if the
Hokies beat the game Cocks on Sunday, that he, a
Clemson fan, will financially donate to the Virginia Tech football program.
And I'm keeping receipts, so if that happens, I need

(15:20):
a receipt sent in first thing on Monday morning. Slapping Cheeks,
I appreciate it one dollar. I think there's a minimum
donation beyond that. All right, anyway, back to the Panthers,
and I would love your college football thoughts. We've talked
a lot of college football the last two days, because
of course we are, but so i'd love your thoughts
on that. But Panthers cutdown Day has been the biggest

(15:41):
topic of conversation today, and I know a lot of
folks are tuning in for the first time, and I
don't think anybody cares about anything else other than Hunter
Renfro being cut, at least not to any similar degree.
Nobody cares about anything else, but the text line smoke,
you're nodding over there? Do you see anybody who upset
about anything other than Hunter Renfro being left off this roster?

(16:03):
The only other name that gets mentioned is David Morris, Like,
why don't you keep David more on over Hunter Renfro.

Speaker 4 (16:08):
That's it.

Speaker 8 (16:09):
That's the only Like I remember yesterday when we were
talking about the cuts that we saw throughout Monday, and
I asked, you already have been really shocking to you?

Speaker 4 (16:17):
He said, women a little bit, but no, not really.

Speaker 8 (16:21):
We didn't really have that one shocking cut until the
last cut, which was Hunter Renfro. And that's really been
the most divisive, And I think a lot of it
has to do with the fact that he's a local product.
You know, Murder Beach is not close to here but
five hours, but South Carolina played at Clemson, legend at Clemson.
Clemson has not had a Carolina Panther play for this

(16:42):
team in a while, or at least a notable one.
It's been a long time. Probably have to go back
to Brinson Buckner, the last real Clemson player to really
stick here in Carolina. So you have that and then oh,
By the way, a lot of the players that are
on this team now that have been taken early in
the draft have been South Carolina game Cocks. So I
think all that's just been rolled up into one with

(17:03):
the good story and in boom it froze at you
and that's what you get.

Speaker 4 (17:06):
Sure, Uh text her here.

Speaker 3 (17:07):
A minute ago, somebody asked, who do these people think
Hunter Renfro is in twenty twenty five. I mean, I
think they thought he was good enough to make the team.
I think they've heard J. C. Horn say what he said,
like a seven h four number, just said, ridiculous decision
on cutting Hunter. Your Pro Bowl cornerback said quote, nobody
can cover him end quote, So cutting him makes no sense.

(17:31):
David Moore will not make a difference on our team,
and somebody will pick up Renfro. I mean they might.
But here's the rub, and I keep there's something to this.
Hunter Renfro is about to have another child. Hunter Renfro
has made enough money that he doesn't have to play football.

Speaker 4 (17:52):
Anymore because he got that second contract. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (17:54):
Correct, He told me that to my face and to others.
I don't think he wants to play for anybody, but Carolina.
I could be wrong about that, and if that's been
clearly communicated to the front office, somebody earlier said, well,
he played himself. He overplayed his hand, did he or
did they find a way they could be flexible or

(18:15):
they went to Hunter and said, hey, is this really
the only place you want to play? Because if that's
the case, that allows us to get a little creative,
because you think about it this way, you're still engaged
in trade talks with Minnesota, right well, rostering Adam Thielen
and not Hunter Renfro. That might be perceived as I
don't know, posturing, sending a message of hey, he's in

(18:38):
our plans so much so that we didn't roster his
quote unquote replacement and Hunter Renfro, Now what, You just
don't know what kind of games these front offices are
playing with each other. So if it's true that Hunter
really only wants to play in Carolina or he's done
playing football, then you probably have an assurance that, hey,

(18:58):
if we don't roster you, you but we signed you to
the practice squad and we expect you to play this year.

Speaker 4 (19:06):
Why can't you do that? Right? Yep?

Speaker 3 (19:08):
If he only wants to play in Carolina, you keep
Adam feeling your roster. David Moore, you're keeping seven wide
receivers as we suspected they would.

Speaker 4 (19:18):
Including Taine.

Speaker 3 (19:19):
And if you've been and if Hunter's been honest, because
he was, he told us he wants.

Speaker 4 (19:23):
To be here.

Speaker 3 (19:24):
Well, if you know that, sign him to the practice squad,
then you can elevate him. You can put Bryce and
Tremaine on the practice squad so he can keep developing. Right,
So just throwing that out there, I'm just don't crush
the front office just yet. We don't know how this
turns out. Well, come back, we'll take your phone call.
Sports Radio ninety two seven w fn Z.

Speaker 4 (19:51):
Yeah, it's national.

Speaker 1 (19:52):
The ground, the bounds and not stuff the grounds like
a man. Elefant and said, what back rama tanks.

Speaker 4 (19:56):
You can't stop the train, don't beat them.

Speaker 1 (20:00):
He went out.

Speaker 3 (20:01):
So a three three six number just texted in to say,
why is Colin Hoggard there acting like he's an attorney
on that commercial? The John Acton thing. We've made that
joke for a long time. Here Acton does sound like
Colin Haggard. But the creepy thing was Colin had just
walked in the studio to talk to us. So I
thought somebody had our studio bugged for a second. That
was kind of creepy. That was kind of weird. But
he came in to rag on Smoke about his lack

(20:23):
of geography knowledge. We do think we found smokes one
great weakness and that is geography in a sense of direction.

Speaker 4 (20:31):
What are you mad? You upset?

Speaker 6 (20:33):
Now?

Speaker 4 (20:34):
You know I have to have one weakness.

Speaker 8 (20:35):
And considering the fact that I have never been north
of the Mason Dixon line, yeah, or west of the
Mississippi River, it tracks.

Speaker 3 (20:44):
It tracks, It tracks. Also, I really am starting to
hate Vikings fans. Like watching these people online freak out
about Adam Thielen and the fact that the Panthers won't
just roll over and give him away for a cheese
pizza and a thank you card is wild, Like there's
I just saw one pretty popular Panthers Sorry Vikings podcast

(21:07):
say that the quote Panthers are way overestimating the Adam
Theelen trade market. The Vikings have a very unique circumstance
where they're interested. Not a lot of teams banging down
the door for a thirty five year old wide receiver
with a decent contract third round pick, Get the bleep
out of here. Go ahead and play hardball, Dan Morgan,

(21:27):
and pay the full contract of a wide receiver who
doesn't want to be there, doesn't play special teams, and
is taking snaps away from a young wide receiver Corps.
Vikings will have zero interest when Addison gets back by
the way, So it's not like you can move theeling
at the deadline end quote.

Speaker 4 (21:43):
I haven't.

Speaker 3 (21:44):
I've not embarked on the hatred of a new fan
base in a long time. I'm pretty much settled on
the fan bases.

Speaker 4 (21:50):
That I hate.

Speaker 3 (21:52):
I'm about to add Vikings fans to this list, I
really am. I'm about to add Minnesota fans to the
list of fan bases that I can't stand. And maybe
that it's not fair, maybe that's wrong, but I've seen
enough of them showing their asses on Twitter and social
media the last twenty four hours, talking down about the Panthers,
insulting our dear leader, Captain Morgan, and acting as if

(22:16):
they're entitled to Adam Thielen just because he played there
and you know is from Minnesota. Bro y'all let him
go two years ago. He didn't want to pay him.
He let him walk. He came back to this seaton.
He was going to retire at the end of last year.
He said, he came back this year because he's a
believer in Bryce Young and what the Panthers are trying

(22:37):
to build. The Panthers, aren't We weren't shopping Adam thlen Okay,
they're not trying to offload him to anybody who will
take him.

Speaker 4 (22:44):
In fact, it's quite the opposite.

Speaker 3 (22:46):
Minnesota had an extenuating circumstance with multiple wide receivers and
they have a need at the position, and they thought
they could just call Dan Morgan and say, well, hey, man.

Speaker 9 (22:56):
Like.

Speaker 3 (22:58):
You know, I'll just send him on back. Let's just
send him on back like we could use him. Wouldn't
it be a great story if you sent Adam back
to us so that he could end his career in
Minnesota where he belongs.

Speaker 4 (23:09):
Come on, man, let's do the right thing.

Speaker 3 (23:11):
Let's just do the right thing here, Dan, And I
hope Dan hung up on him, and I hope he's
hung up on him multiple times. I'm so sick of
these people. I don't want to read another Vikings fan post.
You are not entitled to Adam Thielen We want him here,
most of us, not omit the few others, but we
want him here at least for the short term foreseeable future. Now,
if you get to the trade deadline and you know

(23:32):
a deal presents itself, great, do it. Then I'm not
hung up on the when they say, well, if you
wait to the deadline, you're not going to get the
same thing for him. Who cares. I don't care. He's
not going to be here next year. Injuries happen in
the NFL. He's good for Bryce, Yes, absolutely, try to
elevate the young guys. Get more reps for McMillan, for Excel,

(23:53):
for Cocher, no doubt about it. But if you got
to win a game, If this team is in crunch time,
needing to win a game in Jacksonville in the fourth
quarter in Week one and Adam Feelin's on the field,
where do you think that Bryce Young's going with the football?
I can tell you right now he's probably going to
Adam Feeling.

Speaker 4 (24:13):
He's going to be hooked on the feeling.

Speaker 3 (24:14):
Yes, So, Vikings fans, you were on my bleep list.
I've never hated you once in my life, but I'm
on the verge of adding you to the hate list.
Let's go to the phone lines. Will is up first
in this segment. Will what's going on? Call me down?

Speaker 1 (24:30):
Okay, Well, I'm probably going to rally up a little
bit more.

Speaker 2 (24:33):
The Feeling thing is confusing to me because it feels
like it came out of not out of the blue,
but it made sense. He's got connections to Minnesota, but
we're not shopping him, and he's a safety He's a
safety blanket for Bryce, who we love. But it's not

(24:54):
like Bryce has a track record of crushing it. He's
had you know, eleven good games out of his career.
Luckily they're the last eleven. But what I get confused
about right now is it feels like this, well, if
it made sense and they and they overpaid, we'd send
Dealing to Minnesota and it'd be a feel good story.
But you're getting a lot of things like the leaks

(25:16):
to Schefter. It feels now like there's an expectation that
Feeling wants to go to Minnesota. And even if you
look at some of the they've got some folks in
there kind of the circle with a lot of followers,
and they're putting you know, messages out there that, like
you know, they're having a crisis of faith if they've
got to stay in Charlotte, they want to get back

(25:37):
to Minnesota. So it's becoming a weirder thing now, and
I wish whatever the the output is, they can just
get there, whether it's getting something for him and sending
him back or just saying he's saying. But it's getting
weirder now. And I don't know if it affects chemistry
at all, but it is. It is a little odd.

Speaker 4 (25:56):
No, it's weird.

Speaker 3 (25:57):
I appreciate the phone call Will, but what, like I
said earlier, Adam Schefter is also annoying me in this
because Adam Schefter, this stuff that he's tweeting out is
coming straight from agents and Questiadolpha Mensa like that. This
stuff is coming from Feelin's agent and the Vikings. It
just is, And there's a whole lot of regurgitating what

(26:17):
I believe the agent thinks to be true. Do I
think Adam Thelan would be angry about going back to Minnesota.

Speaker 4 (26:21):
No, I don't. He would like it.

Speaker 3 (26:23):
He probably embrace it, but that doesn't mean he also
doesn't want to be here. Reportedly, his family loves it
here again. I stress he could have retired. He chose
to come back to Carolina and expressly said it is
because of what they're building, he wants to be a
part of it, and because he's a believer in Bryce Young.
So I don't really care about the emotional side of it.

(26:44):
Do I think he'd be happy for a homecoming?

Speaker 6 (26:46):
Sure?

Speaker 4 (26:46):
Is he going to be upset about being here?

Speaker 7 (26:48):
No?

Speaker 3 (26:48):
I don't think so. Whatsoever. Robert is up next? Robert,
what's going on?

Speaker 1 (26:53):
What's going on?

Speaker 6 (26:53):
Man?

Speaker 4 (26:54):
What's on your mind?

Speaker 1 (26:55):
Yeah?

Speaker 10 (26:56):
We're not giving a Adam for anything. Uh, you know,
can't be in the little than a third round picker.
But when I give him them away just one of
the touchdowns the Virginia Tech South Carolina game, I'm sorry,
but you guys are gonna get housed.

Speaker 4 (27:14):
Oh please get out of here house. Yeah what you know?

Speaker 10 (27:19):
You know, I tell you I started staying last year.
South Carolina just looks different.

Speaker 1 (27:25):
I think that.

Speaker 10 (27:25):
The first time I saw him playing on TV was
the L s U game. And when I saw them
and I saw their body tights, I saw the speed
that they have. They're just different. And not only has
he you know, he's uh Shane Bemer has plugged in
the the the he's used a transfer portal. But he's

(27:47):
also recruited really well, particularly on the offensive line, because
all those guys that were young last year are going
to plug in on the offensive line. That the running
back that they got from UH, I forget the women
that he's a beast, and you know with the quarterback,

(28:10):
I think, I don't I don't know if it's going
to be a complete blowout, but I definitely think they're
gonna wear him down.

Speaker 3 (28:15):
You realize how many of those guys are now gone
to the NFL from last year.

Speaker 10 (28:18):
Yeah, but but I but I also realize how he
how he's recruited, and he's got a bunch of I've
been watching the recruiting. There's a bunch of four star
guys that come in there, especially in the offensive line,
and and those those guys are those guys are big.

Speaker 1 (28:36):
The other thing is one of that has one.

Speaker 10 (28:37):
Touchdown of the pants and stuff. I'm really happy that
that they finally stopped UH recruiting jockey size whiide receivers.

Speaker 1 (28:47):
I like this side.

Speaker 3 (28:48):
Okay, now, Robert, if you're wrong about that prediction, you
better call me on Monday.

Speaker 4 (28:52):
We're working on Labor Day. You better call it.

Speaker 10 (28:54):
Well, you know, I'm not. Usually it has to be
Thursday because Jim there have to be at work at
three o'clock.

Speaker 4 (29:04):
Well, your phone works done.

Speaker 10 (29:08):
I would definitely call you because I don't have to
be in until no.

Speaker 3 (29:14):
Go, buy a pack of cigarettes, take up smoking and
take a smoke.

Speaker 4 (29:17):
Break your work. Thank you. By I'm hanging up on
you house. Get the hell out of here.

Speaker 3 (29:22):
Let's squat to Nebraska next Corn Cob, Craig, Craig, how's Nebraska?

Speaker 4 (29:25):
What's going on? Are you listening to Matt Rule's podcast?

Speaker 6 (29:29):
Well, no, I you know, I don't.

Speaker 5 (29:31):
I don't know that I'll engage in that.

Speaker 6 (29:33):
I mean Jami and Christmas. Yeah, that's a whole different.

Speaker 5 (29:36):
Conversation than you know, Gosh, he might be the only
guy that can take an eight million dollars a year
paycheck and say the job wasn't good till he got here.
But at any rate, that's a whole different story. And
you know, in terms of the podcast, I think he
really thinks he's onto something in terms of just you know,
really being able to show relatability to kids and some

(29:58):
of the TikTok things he's done. It's been interesting. But
you know, if he puts up the w's, he's going
to be fine. But I would I think he's tightening
the leash a little bit on himself with some of
the things that Jibber Jabber has done recently. But hey,
at any rate, with respect to you know, the cut down,

(30:19):
I guess I kind of like, you know this idea where.

Speaker 6 (30:22):
They eliminated the incremental cut down and I you know,
they go to from ninety to fifty.

Speaker 5 (30:28):
Three all at once, and I guess one.

Speaker 6 (30:30):
Would assume that the reason why they do that and
eliminated the incremental cut down is just to take reps off,
you know, your top two groups legs during pre season.

Speaker 5 (30:43):
But hey, you know what, he had.

Speaker 6 (30:45):
A terrible play at the end of the half. But
the thing about a defensive back, they say that it's
easy to be good when the going's good, but how
you bounce back is one thing. And the kid from
Lincoln did play better in the second half, even got
a got a compliment out of Canalist on the podcast
or in his pressure the other day. So I'm hey,

(31:06):
dark Horse, is it? Giffert to the practice squad thank you.

Speaker 3 (31:10):
Craig Hope you're doing well, buddy, Hope. The the what
did he do? Didn't he wreck his bike on a
banana peel? A couple of weneks ago?

Speaker 5 (31:17):
He did?

Speaker 6 (31:17):
R Damn?

Speaker 4 (31:19):
I should have asked him about that.

Speaker 3 (31:20):
If he's recovering, Craig bah he called us from the hospital,
said he cracked a couple of rigs rigs ribs after
he wrecked his bike on a banana peel.

Speaker 9 (31:29):
Damn.

Speaker 3 (31:29):
I should have asked him about that, Craig, how are
your ribs holding up? Text to show seven O four
five seven ninety six ten. He did say, though, you know,
Matt's kind of tightening the leash on himself.

Speaker 4 (31:39):
How it's the opposite.

Speaker 3 (31:41):
He's going into a pivotal year three and he's starting
a stupid podcast. And I do when I tell you,
like my brain gets hung up on weird stuff, you
and I probably have that in common. When I tell
you that I have thought about the tagline for his
podcast dozens of times in the last week since it
came out. Like when Matt Rule says We're going to
talk about all the things that people care about, college football,

(32:02):
pop culture and young people.

Speaker 8 (32:06):
I just imagine him right now talking about Taylor Swift
and Gage.

Speaker 4 (32:11):
You know, it's very nice to see Taylor Swift getting gaged.
We're wrong, it wasn't a banana peel. Craig wrapped. He right,
wrecked on dog poop. Remember, oh, he wrecked his bike
on dog poop. The text lines reminding us of that.

Speaker 3 (32:24):
He raps his bike on dog poop and broke multiple
ribs out in Nebraska somewhere. That's right, That's what it was.
He wrecked his bicycle on a pilot dog poop, went
over the handlebars and broke multiple ribs that day. What
a bad day for corn Cob Craig. All right, let's
go to smoke on the headlines.

Speaker 8 (32:43):
Well, a former rival of Nebraska has had some news
happen today, and unfortunately it's not the best news. According
to Adam Rittenberg, Colorado has announced that Ralphie six, it's
live buffalo mascot named Imber, is retiring due to and
diffference to running contributed to the decision. The school is
training Ralphie seven for her debut, but the team will

(33:08):
take the field without its live mascot for the time being,
So that means whenever Georgia Tech takes on Colorado this weekend.

Speaker 4 (33:16):
There will be no Ralphie. Oh, George Tech by a million.
Have you got no Ralphie to pump you up?

Speaker 6 (33:23):
No?

Speaker 3 (33:23):
Sheer Sanders that Georgia Tech line is not big enough
now Oh no, has it gone up?

Speaker 4 (33:29):
If you checked? Oh I got it in.

Speaker 3 (33:31):
You know there was some line movement when this news broke.
There had to be right, probably at least half a point.
But I took Georgia Tech or even before that.

Speaker 8 (33:38):
But anyway, Also big news in the NFC South Atlanta Falcons.
Say what you will about them, but their offensive line
has been one of the biggest positives for them over
the last night.

Speaker 4 (33:48):
This is huge. Right tackle Kayleb McCarry is out for
the season.

Speaker 3 (33:53):
And that's the guy protecting Michael Pennix's blindside.

Speaker 10 (33:56):
Y'all.

Speaker 3 (33:57):
He's a left handed, left handed quarterback. So Kayla McGarry,
the right tackle, the man protecting Michael Pennix's blindside, or
he won't be now, is out for the season.

Speaker 8 (34:07):
That's bad, real bad, especially when you're trying to see
what Michael Pennix has this year.

Speaker 4 (34:11):
Real bad, real real bad.

Speaker 3 (34:13):
All right, well, come back, we'll wrap up the show
Sports Radio ninety two to seven WFNZ, Hey one final time,

(34:39):
Sports Radio ninety two seven wfn Z heads up to
forty nine ers and app State Mountaineer fans. Both of
your respected athletic directors will join the show tomorrow. Respective
and respected Mike Hill of Charlotte and Doug Gillen of
app State both will make an appearance on the show
tomorrow ahead of Fridays.

Speaker 4 (34:59):
You know Duke's Mayo Classic. Almost forgot what the game
was called.

Speaker 3 (35:01):
Duke's Mayo Classic Charlotte app State Tomorrow both Doug Gillan
and Mike kill Roman Harper stops by as well, looking
forward to that conversation.

Speaker 8 (35:09):
You want to let people know singing out sending out
the winner to the info of the Duke's Mayo tickets
right now. We will have giveaways again tomorrow and Thursday.
So today wasn't your only chance. He still got multiple opportunities.

Speaker 4 (35:20):
There you go.

Speaker 3 (35:20):
I do want to throw out that. My dad texted
me earlier in the show. He's still around, he's still listening.
He's just busy, and he said Magic Johnson was the
most shocking sports retirement of all time.

Speaker 4 (35:30):
So got to get Dad's taken. There, we'll given the circumstances.

Speaker 3 (35:33):
Yeah, yeah, all right, we got to catch you up
on what you've missed. It's time for the rewind. What's that?

Speaker 4 (35:44):
I accidentally double pressed the button?

Speaker 3 (35:45):
Why'd you do that? When you want to start over?
Just stop it and start over. Nobody wants to listen
to that. There we go, all right. Earlier in the show,
Nick Carbony Televisions, Nick Carbony, NBC Charlotte thinking Hunter Renfro
could still end up a care a lot of panther.

Speaker 4 (36:01):
I think it's.

Speaker 7 (36:02):
Entirely possible, and based on his camp you know, while
it was a nice story and while he looked like
he was getting back to form, you know, he may
not be plucked to somebody else's fifty three if you
try to stash him for a while and then bring
him up as need be, and chances are there will
be and as need be.

Speaker 4 (36:18):
And you're right.

Speaker 5 (36:19):
I mean, he kind of has said that to everybody
like this, this.

Speaker 7 (36:22):
Was kind of my shot and it was gonna be
with Carolina, and everybody seemed to kind of be on
board with it and be you know, supportive of him.

Speaker 4 (36:30):
While he was here.

Speaker 7 (36:31):
So I think he's very comfortable here, not just because
it's close to home, but because of how the last
couple of months since the spring has gone. So I
could absolutely see it. But you know there's enough probably
on that practice state from a week and a half
in comment from even Dave Canalis saying like I'm starting
to see the old hunter rentfro out there that somebody
could take their shot, and we'll just see if he

(36:51):
takes it.

Speaker 3 (36:53):
Later in the show, we checked in with Corey Miller,
the pastor of Pain, who expects a close battle between
the Hokies and the game Cocks on Sunday.

Speaker 4 (37:00):
I think it's going to be.

Speaker 9 (37:01):
A close game, but I think South Carolina Leonois Sellers
in the end will find a way to take a drive,
go down the field and score a touchdown. But I
don't think there'll be a lotside the game. I think
it's going to be a close, very interesting game. So
I'm just fired up about college football, but I think
the game Cocks are going to win. And I just
don't know, and I haven't seen enough of Virginia Tech

(37:23):
to say upset. I know you.

Speaker 3 (37:26):
Later in the show, and finally Danny Knell, CBS Sports
College football analyst and former Florida State quarterback New York
Giants too. Here's Danny Canell on the one concern he
has for Clemson against LSU this weekend.

Speaker 1 (37:38):
It is wrong on the defensive side of the ball.
So like last year, and everybody's talking about TJ. Parker
and Peter Woods, guys that are first round talent that
are on that defensive side of the ball. They were
there last year and this team could not get off
the field versus the run. They were second to last
in the ACC defending the run. LSU is gonna want
to run the football. That's the one thing that makes

(38:00):
me nervous. Now that being said, they brought in Tom Allen,
They cleaned house on the defensive side of the ball
on the staff to bring in a new defensive coordinator
with a new mindset. So like, they should get better,
but they've got to get dramatically better if they want
to obtain their goals.

Speaker 3 (38:16):
That's the rewind and look back into the show each
and every day as we wrap things up. As a

Tip my cap to all fifty three men that made roster,
especially on the back end of the roster.

Speaker 4 (38:42):
They really earned it.

Speaker 8 (38:43):
Guys like Corey Forton specifically definitely earned their key.

Speaker 3 (38:47):
I was gonna tip my cap to James Mitchell. I
got a guy who made the roster. Pretty happy about that.
We are back tomorrow, looking forward to it. Doug Gillan,
Mike Hill, Roman Harper. Who knows who else stops by?
You better be there to find out for Smoke Ludwig.
I'm Kyle Bailey Sports Radio ninety two to seven wfn Z.
