(00:52):
has dominated the news cycle and this show, of course
here in Charlotte the last couple of days, and it
might be all coming to a head. Started the show
with Andrew Jones of tarhel two four to seven reporting
that he heard and is actually knows that the Brass
and Chapel Hill met this morning about potentially moving on
from Bill Belichick and that he himself Andrew Jones, saying

(01:13):
he didn't think it was really all that crazy that
Bill Belichick would be done before the next game, that
he wouldn't coach against Cal coming up Friday, October seventeenth,
and Andrew Jones very credible, been on top of this story,
you know, laid it out in a way that makes
it clear UNC was nearly, you know, is getting close
to being done with Bill Belichick. Well in the last
twenty five minutes. Ollie Connelly, former NFL college football scout

(01:38):
writer for The Guardian, not exactly a heavyweight in the
world of breaking news, at least not in your timelines
all the time. But this was the man who broke
the news less than a year ago that Bill Belichick
was set to become the next head coach at North Carolina.
I won't read the entire thread because it's a little
bit lengthy, but Olli Connolly reporting at four twenty eight
this afternoon, so thirty five minutes ago now quote her

(01:59):
source so is Bill Belichick has discussed buy out options
with North Carolina's hierarchy. Belichick has signaled a willingness to
trigger his own one million dollar buyout if he can
find a soft landing with another team or in the media.
End quote. He goes on to report that Belichick's coaching staff,
many of them, have already spoken to other schools that
might be college football playoff bound. About taking on roles

(02:21):
during the postseason from one coach quote, the rats are
leaving the ship end quote, some staffers believing a change
will come in the next two weeks. There are reports
of serious recruiting violations, according to Ali Condoley, that we've
already talked about that have already been proven by the
school according to multiple sources. And the last quote there

(02:42):
from one UNC defensive assistant quote, what we've done to
these kids is fed up end quote. Also, I want
to throw in there. Belichick's communication with his staff the
last two weeks, according to Connolly, has been described as
weird and distant by multiple members of the coaching staff,
and multiple coaches were unable to get a hold of
the Big Whistle during UNC's bye week, where he apparently

(03:04):
spent the bye week, or at least a portion of
it in Nantucket vacationing with Jordan Hudson. So that's where
we are right now. It appears, according to the reporting
that the Bill Belichick era is nearing its end in
Chapel Hill. It is not official yet, they have not
declared it. There's been no time of death officially from
the university, but according to all recent reporting by tied

(03:26):
in individuals. This appears to be coming to an end
very soon. Let's bring in Roman Harper, two time Pro Bowler,
Super Bowl champion, SEC Network analyst, former Alabama crimson tied
New Orleans Saints in Carolina panther safety. Our buddy Roman
Harper back with us for a Wednesday conversation, Roman, what
do you make of all this? What do you think?

Speaker 2 (03:45):
I didn't want to come in after that intergestion that
I want no part to this. That when this thing
first started popping off, I told you, I think he's
going to be utter failure. I didn't expect anything out
of this. That North Carolina football hadn't been relevant in
four years so in my lifetime, and this is the
biggest thing that has happened for them, and it's totally

(04:06):
blown up. And I don't know. I know that was
a very embarrassing loss to Clemson, knowing that Clemson had struggled,
the fact that everybody was, you know, talking about that
oh ludu. Chris was wanting to perform at a night
game and ended up being like an eleven car twelve
o'clock kickoff, just like all the you know, the latest
and greatest Internet hits of making fun of people. North

(04:28):
Carolina has been a lot of a grunt of a
lot of jokes, and it's tough and college and coaching
college football is nothing like coaching like the NFL. And
for all the same reasons that I thought that this
wasn't going to be great, it literally proved me all
the way right. And I just feel bad that we're
actually kicking people where ore down because Bill Belichick's a
legendary coach that deserves to be able to go out

(04:49):
kind of on his own terms, and if this is
his own terms, it's sometimes it's better to leave on
your own terms, and being fired, well you just don't
want that on your resumes.

Speaker 3 (04:57):
Let me ask you this, though, I don't know that
we're kicking him while he's down. I mean, I'm sure
maybe some people are. But he willingly entered into this
situation having not coached college football in fifty years of
being a coach, like he took this on. And I
do think that that he and Michael Lombardi brought an
NFL arrogance with them that you know, well there you go,
you hear it. So, like you said, you thought this

(05:19):
was going to be a mistake, and I think you
just nailed it. They're the same game. It's still football,
but coaching college versus coaching the pros are vastly different.
So go back to that, What is it about him
that you think was always destined to fail at the
college level?

Speaker 2 (05:32):
Well, Number one, not everybody wants to do it the
Billy Check way. Sure, in the Patriot way. That works
in the NFL because at the end of the day,
you have this one term that keeps players in line.
It's called conduct detrimental that coaches and organizations get to
use to keep players in line and in check to
doing exactly what they want. That you had Tom Brady

(05:53):
for all those years and that you won. So when
you win, everybody's happy and everybody's willing to sappify and
do it best with the team. But when you come
and you're trying to build out an organization, you're dealing
with nineteen eighteen, twenty twenty one, twenty two, and sometimes
twenty three and twenty four year old kids because of
you know, COVID and whatever else we've had in college.
These kids are selfish. They don't care anything about that.

(06:16):
It's all about themselves and everything's transactional and the fact
that you can't just draft guys. You actually have to
recruit guys. The difference when you know in the league,
nobody chooses to go to New England, they draft you.
I didn't choose to go to New Orleans out of college.
I was drafted there. I chose to go to Alabama.

(06:37):
That's the difference. You make the choice in college until
ultimately these kids, these young men still get to make
the choice to be a part of North Carolina's program.
And right now, I think that's the one biggest mistake
that Coach Belichick and Mike Lombardi made was that you
know what, We'll show up and guys will just want
to come to us instead, It's like, no, you still

(06:58):
got to recruit them, and they'll still be recruited by
a lot of other suitors who have better traditions and
don't have just all the Jordan Brandon the cool colors.
But it's also the fact that like, what tradition do
you have in North Carolina besides you and this name
that's supposed to make me excited to be a part
of this program. And that's the part that was ultimately
going to fail. All the time because that's just what

(07:20):
it is. And it's not easy to win games either.
We ain't talk about coaching the game yet. It's everything else,
it is.

Speaker 3 (07:26):
It's everything else. It's the distraction. Yeah, it's everything else.
You're right, all right. We'll come back to the college
stuff in a minute, but I do want to get
you to weigh in. Since we you mentioned Alabama, there
a couple of former Alabama quarterbacks going at at Sunday
at the Bank, Tua and Bryce and Boy. I'll tell
you what. In the beginning, it felt like after the
first couple of turnovers, fumble, interception, boom, they're down seventeen

(07:47):
to nothing. You know, Panthers fans are ready to quit again, right,
I mean many of them are out on Bryce. They
can't believe this is happening again. Another terrible start. But
they fight their way back Rome and they come back
from seventeen down. They tie the largest franchise come back
in history, and they get to win twenty seven to
twenty four. Bryce was really bad in the beginning, but
he made some clutch throws in the second half. Rico

(08:07):
o'dowdell was a monster. The defense appears to be getting better.
What'd you make of it all, Well, I.

Speaker 2 (08:13):
Lost twenty dollars on the game first and place. I'm
sorry they don't told I thought that. I thought that
I thought the patients would lose. I'm not gonna lie.
But it was fine. I was very I was kind
of excited earlier because I had Darren Waller on my
fantasy things, so that's always exciting when he gets onto
a hot start. And then Miami became Miami, and it
kind of showed us that, like, hey, Caroline is a

(08:35):
team and an organization that's still in a place where
they're trying to grow. Miami looks like they're in a
place where they're ready to implode. And so if you
ever think that is worse or thinks to get any worse, yeah,
it can't. And you're that's Miami Dolphins right now. So
you take the positive with the positive, which was the
ability to go to run the football when when Carolina
really wanted to. Rico Donad had a great game, random ball,

(08:56):
extremely hard, and and I take the other positive, which
is IXA really get hitting the box score, you know,
So like you take those positives offensively, got are really
good and you just got to keep building. Look, This
team's a very young team and a very young coaching staff.
With the players and everything, they have to learn how
to win, and right now they're still figuring out how

(09:19):
to not kind of get in their own way. I
think that's another piece of this whole puzzle that not
enough people understand. And so whenever you can get a win,
you celebrate them because they're not easy to come bine
and you got to take the positive with it. It'll be
interesting to see how both of these teams continue to
go forward. It's good that they were actually able to
win a home game in front of a home crowd,

(09:40):
so the crowd can actually be excited about, Hey, even
when we get down, we still have a chance to
go win this game. They did it versus Arizona, but
they couldn't finish it off. Versus Miami, they would have
helped finish this thing off and defensively be able to
get a stop at the end of the game as
well to help steal it. So it wasn't like your
offense just scored the last second touchdown and you walked

(10:02):
off that way. But ultimately, both sides of the football
contributed in a big wig in a big way, and
help them do that. Also, special teams not giving up
any big returns, which is exactly what set them off
in a bad direction versus New England just the week
before that. So you know, you take the positives with that,
just like I always tell you. And I didn't cut
the game off this week, which is a positive like

(10:24):
the week before I cut the game off.

Speaker 3 (10:25):
I did want to tell you nobody offered me a
table to jump through in Buffalo on Sunday. I wasn't
offered to take. You didn't do it, then.

Speaker 2 (10:32):
We all set you, Graham. I'saw your Graham. You look
like you had a good time. The flag football at
halftime looked awesome. And I'm very disappointed that you didn't
jump through a table.

Speaker 3 (10:42):
Well, I mean I was. I was keeping my eyes peeled,
like my head was on a swivel walking through the
tailgate lots. But I didn't see anybody die for a
one like nobody does for one.

Speaker 2 (10:49):
Oh my gosh, Kyle, because you weren't looking. You weren't
looking close enough. You got to go into the outfort,
bro They're not These things aren't just right by the
stadium in the VIP section with the great barkat nobody's
jumped do tables there? You know you you think you're
the princess of Mungar. Oh my god, you're going through

(11:09):
with the rose pedals thinking they open up a table
for you.

Speaker 1 (11:13):
No.

Speaker 4 (11:14):
Yeah, the dude, did you ever go and seek it?

Speaker 3 (11:17):
Did you ever play at Buffalo, by the way, I'm
sure you did. Did you ever play there?

Speaker 2 (11:20):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (11:20):
I did?

Speaker 2 (11:21):
I did.

Speaker 3 (11:21):
We won well, okay, but like I gotta be honest
man like that that. I know. It was Sunday night
football was the Patriots, But that was I mean, that's
one of the best football environments I've ever been in
in my life. It was. It was really true.

Speaker 2 (11:32):
It is. And the first of all, the fans care
a lot about that team is Buffalo and Bill's mafia
fans all over this country, and it's really cool whenever
you see And that's the reason why a team like
Buffalo can survive throughout the weather, throughout It's not a
big market, it's a very small market team, but it
doesn't matter because the fan and the passion that is

(11:54):
there in Buffalo, like they love that team. They ain't
going nowhere. They understand that Buffalo is everything there and
the organization with with Brandon Bean and coach McDermott understand
that as well, because that's why they supply the players
with so many different opportunities and making sure that the
players are well taken care of as far as massage is,
days off, how they practice the hot tub, cold tub,

(12:17):
all the situations within the building that are a super
upper class because they know it's really hard to recruit
players outside of that to the city of Buffalo to
come play football outside of Like, you know, it's not
the prettiest, it's not the most vibrant, but we love
our football team. They treat you right when you get
in the building, and the fans are second to none.

(12:38):
And so I'm glad you got to see that. It's
dead smack in the middle of the neighborhood though it is, yes,
it is.

Speaker 3 (12:45):
Polar opposite of Charlotte. Our stadium is part of the sideline.
Theirs is in the middle of nowhere. And last thing
on this I will say if you if you watch
the NBC broadcast Sunday night, as they're coming back from
break at the end of halftime, they show the highlights
of the flag football game and have time and Tarico's
talking about it and Collinsworth jumps in and he says, man,
these people were into that. They were even chanting USA,

(13:06):
USA there at the end. I got him doing that
Roman as I'm walking out the stadium with a live mic.
I get all seventy thousand people chanting USA in high
Mark Stadium on a Sunday night. It was incredible. So
everybody's welcome for that. That was all me.

Speaker 2 (13:19):
I love the name droppers yourself right there. I love
that right, you know, because I did see that. I
did see that they went to the plaid football game.
That's how I was like, Oh, that's exactly why Kyle
was different for the hot time.

Speaker 3 (13:31):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (13:32):
Then and they talked about the USA chant. I'm glad
that you took credit for it right now, because they
didn't give it to you. So that's all.

Speaker 3 (13:39):
It was a core memory for me, So I really
loved it all right. Let me let me ask you
a question college football related. We were talking earlier about
all the parody in the sport, and I referenced Kirby
Smart after he lost Tobama a couple of weeks ago.
He was telling reporters, Hey, the game's different. It ain't
like it used to be. The rosters aren't as deep
as they used to be. Guys are getting paid to
go elsewhere, this, that, and the other. And some people

(14:00):
didn't want to hear it because he had just lost
to Bama, and he's won and seven against Bama, and
so some people thought that was an excuse. But he's
one hundred percent right, and we were trying to Like,
I asked Smoke, who do you think is the best
team in college football right now? So I'll ask you
any conference, who is the best team? Who are you
picking to win the national championship right now?

Speaker 5 (14:16):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (14:16):
So I don't want to do that. Who will answer
your question? Though? First of all, who did Smoke say?

Speaker 3 (14:23):
I don't think he said Oregon. His answer was Oregon.

Speaker 2 (14:27):
I could see that. I could vibe with that. I
think Oregon is the top five game for sure right now.
The team I've been really, really just most impressed with,
and this the way they play is Miami. I just
love their defense, the way they fly around and hit people.
A key Mesador number three, the D lineman goes inside

(14:47):
outside game wrecker with bain On number four the other
defensive end. Like it's just what they do, travels right
and they're good enough offensively, the old line on that
out of Miami is able to push teams around where
they need to be, able to physical physically push them around.
And you've got a veteran quarterback in Carson Beck that's

(15:07):
throwing the ball and being pretty good at it so
far this year outside of a couple of little rare moments,
but he's played well. And so I like Miami right now.
That's probably my favorite team to watch so far this
year as far as consistency, what they're doing on both
sides of football. Now the amendment, I say that, you
know the moment Miami goes out there and lets one
squeak by. But Miami for me right now seems like

(15:29):
the most complete team with the ability to travel and
ability to host games and be really really a tough out.
So I like Miami so far. Just as far as
outside of my normal footprint, I do like Oregon because
they have a lot of speed, but I'm still a
little bit concerned with their quarterback and lack of experience

(15:51):
in big time moments in games. I just think it's
easy when you're playing games that are you know that
you're not actually to pin going to go win the
game yet, so and Oregon will all that yet to
be determined. Oregon still has one more ranked team to
play in their season, which I think is blowney because
you got teams like Oklahoma wra have five top twenty

(16:12):
five ranked games still left on their schedule, and all
the other conferences are really just wrapping up all their
tough ones unless some other teams will come top twenty
five as the season progresses. But the Big Tim's kind
of got all their stuff out of the way too.
So Ohio State has two games left against top twenty
five oppony. Oregon has one, and they're one great wins
against sim State, which doesn't look that good anymore, So

(16:34):
we'll see. I know they passed the eye test, but
we saw this last year. Kyle was that once you
get to the playoffs, it helps you to play a
tough game. I think it hurt Indiana last year, and
I like the Signetti coach, but you know, I can't
wait to see as Indiana continues to progress and the
rest of the Big Ten what they do as well.

Speaker 3 (16:54):
Love it. Hey, I got about thirty seconds. I just
want to squeeze this in. We'll go harder on the
college stuff. Next week. But you got Tis I'm sent
at Alabama. Really impressive kid.

Speaker 2 (17:03):
You know.

Speaker 3 (17:03):
I'll just talk about this incredible quarterback class coming into
twenty twenty five. Some of these guys have been okay,
others have been complete flops. Do you think Ty Simpsons
an NFL quarterback?

Speaker 2 (17:12):
I do think he's the NFL quarterback. The thing is
is this offseason, Kyle, I set it on the SEC network.
I said Ty Simpsons was going to have the biggest
glow up this season. I saw this happening. It also
helps when you got an NFL ready offensive coordinator that's
really good at calling plays, setting the table for you
very nicely so you can come in there and eat
and be in peace. And so Ty Simpson understands this offense.

(17:34):
They got three legit NFL wide receivers on this roster.
They have a really good offensive line. It's a lot
of really good factors around Tye that's allowing him to
be great. And Ty's paid his dues. Man. I gave
him a hug on the sidelines, quick store. I gave
him a hug on the sidelines last year, and I
told him, I said, man, I see you. Because sometimes
a lot of people just need to be recognized and

(17:54):
told that they're being watched or that they see them.
And so I know it wasn't his turn, but I
told him just to be patient, continue on this road, bro,
and that the future is bright, because I thought he
had really really vastly improved over the last season and
a half of football for him, and so now they
kind of see this whole thing coming to Fruition. It's
been great. He's dominant up and honestly, I think he

(18:15):
should stay in school another year and continue to flourish,
Like don't don't all of a sudden get a little
taste of some good stuff and then all of a sudden,
jet man, do what you gotta do. I understand straight
by the iron pot, but I think what he does
it lasts longer than just one season. Sorry Thoal, You're good, Bro.

Speaker 3 (18:32):
I appreciate you as always. Thank you for the insight.
Thank you for you know, keeping me humble by roasting
me a couple of minutes ago. And we'll do it
again next Wednesday. Thank you, my friend.

Speaker 2 (18:39):
Hey, the only thing that would have been better, Kyle,
if you just say talk to talked about yourself in
third person the way I probably talk about, you know,
Roman Harper, was this next time you see you know,
you know Kyle Bailey did that.

Speaker 3 (18:50):
I'll practice, I'll practice. I'll try to get better at that.

Speaker 2 (18:53):
Yeah, get better at that time.

Speaker 3 (18:54):
Third person, I will thank you, buddy, Roman Harper, two
time pro bowler, super Bowl champion, SEC Network analyst with
us on the hotline. Good really good texts coming in.
We'll come back react, we'll get to some of your text.
But also big report from Ollie Connolly that Bill Belichick
is effectively done at North Carolina. We'll catch you up next.
Sports Radio ninety two seven w F and ZE Last

(19:32):
Sports Radio ninety two seven WF and z KB and
smoke with you here on a Wednesday. Big thanks to
Rome and Harper for stopping in. Always a fun conversation. Smoke,
I have to believe you played that as a joke,
maybe a sarcastic homage to what appears to be the
end of Bill Belichick at North Carolina. You gotta be
careful about that because there's some people who are mad
at us today. Nine A number. I love this. I

(19:55):
love text like this, and I'll explain why. Nine A
number says Kyle. Please remember Bill won three three titles
with an average Brady. Then he won a Super Bowl
over the Rams in a low scoring game when Brady
was a goat. Oh yeah, he won two Super Bowls
with the Giants, crafting Hall of Fame defensive schemes and
beat the fastest offense on turf. Keep crapping on the

(20:16):
greatest NFL coach of all time really shows your football history.
Hold on, hold on. I've already responded on the time.
I couldn't help myself. I told him, I said, this
is all nonsense. No one's crapping on his NFL career.
So I have no idea what you're talking about. The
North Carolina stint has been a disaster. It has no
bearing on his NFL accomplishments, and I've never argued that

(20:38):
it does. In fact, I've twice said today and I
said it yesterday that this really won't hurt his legacy
overall if he just hurries up and moves on. So
you're mad at the wrong guy, he says, KB. The
whole station says, and Roman Harper just said he had Brady.
So is it all Brady or is it coaching? Again?
If you're mad at what Roman Harper said, be mad
at Roman. Harper, don't be mad at me, because I've
said the exact opposite today. I don't really care. I

(21:01):
just sometimes wonder what people are listening to. Like I've
made the argument twice in this show today that if
he just hurries up and moves on, we'll remember this.
We'll remember this, but he'll still be the greatest coach
of all time, arguably even though some people don't think that,
because he has six rings, because he was one of
the authors of one of the great dynasties in NFL history.
I don't know what level of glazing you think is

(21:23):
acceptable for Bill Belichick in this conversation, but I'm probably
not going to meet your standard here. This is an
abject disaster at North Carolina. It's an ugly in to
an otherwise legendary coaching career. That's it. Like he had
never coached college football before he decided to take on
this challenge. He clearly wasn't ready for the challenge, and

(21:44):
that I don't think he was ever mentally really in it.
Now that we have the benefit of hindsight, I don't
think that he truly appreciated the new landscape and culture
of college football with nil and the transfer portal, that
he wouldn't be able to coach college kids the same
way that he coached adult players. It's like, I don't
know what you're looking for, Like you want me to
just glaze this dude endlessly because he was a great
NFL coach, and he was, he absolutely was. I've made

(22:06):
the same same argument you did the first couple of titles.
Brady was fine, it was okay, even sometimes he wasn't
even that good. But those Patriot defenses in the run game,
you know, absolutely carried the day. But then Tom got
better and toward the end, Tom's performances and you know,
Tom's Super Bowl MVPs, and like Tom became the catalyst,
became the driving reason why the coach on the field.

(22:29):
This doesn't have anything to do with that. So, I mean,
I sometimes I just don't know what people are listening to.
That's all. I just there's no way you've listened to
this show in its entirety or even the last couple
of days and reasonably came to that conclusion. That's wild
seven O four five seven ninety six ten hit us
up on the fan duel text line, same number if
you want to give us a call. Phone lines open
for the next ten minutes or so. But I do

(22:51):
want to catch you up for the folks that are
just tuning in on all of this, because it got
real today. I think at about two o'clock when Andrew
Jones of Target two four to seven reported that the
Carolina brass met this morning to discuss possibly moving on
from Bill Belichick. Andrew Jones and his opinion, said he
didn't even think that Bill Belichick would coach against cal

(23:11):
next week. It was his opinion that he wasn't told that,
but based on everything that he said or everything that
he had heard, he didn't think that Bill would even
coach against cal Well. About an hour ago, one hour
and two minutes ago, Olli Connelly, who was the man
who broke the story a year ago that Bill would
become the next coach at North Carolina, Oli Connolly reported

(23:33):
quote per sources, Bill Belichick has discussed buyout options with
North Carolina's hierarchy. Belichick has signaled a willingness to trigger
his own one million dollar buyout if he can find
us off landing with another team or in the media.
Members of Belichick's coaching staff have already spoken to other
schools that are expected to be in college football Playoff
about taking on roles during the postseason. From one coach quote,

(23:56):
the rats are leaving the ship end quote. Some staffers
believe a change will come within two weeks. Reports of
serious recruiting violations remain under investigation at UNC. Recruiting and
practice violations have already been proven by the school. According
to multiple sources, using recruit violations to knock down a
coach's buyout has become a standard practice. If Belichick cannot

(24:17):
find a landing spot to trigger his own buyout, he's
expected to accept a greatly reduced, compromised rate. Belichick's communication
with his staff in the past two weeks has been
described as quote unquote weird and distant by multiple members
of UNC's coaching staff. Multiple coaches were unable to get
a hold of him during un c's bye week. From
one UNC defensive assistant quote, what we've done to these

(24:39):
kids is fed up. End quote That was from Olly
Connolly just an hour ago. The same guy who broke
the news that Bill was taking the job. He's now
reporting that Bill is willing to take a greatly reduced
buyout if he can't find a new job or a
soft landing spot at either a different team or a
media gig. Now, I'd imagine the media gig should be
fairly easy to find if you're Bill Belichick. Like if

(25:02):
ESPN will take him, if Fox will take him, he
should be able to find a new spot like that.

Speaker 6 (25:05):
Everyone will be lining up to try to get him
inside a studio.

Speaker 3 (25:08):
No question, no question about it. So you know that's
the latest, and you know all late reporting, all recent
reporting rather indicates that we are very near the end
of Bill Belichick at North Carolina after a two and
three start and not even being remotely competitive against Power
four opponents. Blown out by TCU, blown out by UCF,

(25:29):
blown out by Clemson, with an ugly win over Charlotte,
and a fairly dominant win over Richmond. So that's what
you got so far. Let's go to the phone lines.
Mark is up first here in this segment, Mark, what's
going on?

Speaker 7 (25:39):
Bud Man? Great show?

Speaker 3 (25:41):
Thank you, hey man.

Speaker 7 (25:43):
All things considered, honestly, I really have.

Speaker 8 (25:45):
Not followed USC football, But you have a one first
time coach in college, first time staff, first time players
play together. So what actually do you really expect.

Speaker 7 (26:00):
I'll check to really achieve versus the bablist teams. And
I've took his time at off the air.

Speaker 3 (26:04):
Oh I expected a hell of a lot more than this. Like,
I'm sorry, Mark, I don't I don't buy that line
of argument, and I never have not since all this started.
I don't buy it. I don't ca it's why the people,
the complainer in chief and the others. I don't know
where he's been the last forty eight hours, by the way,
twenty four hours whatever, Yeah, give it time, got to
be patient for what why the idea was that you
go out on a limb, You take this massive swing

(26:26):
and hire the supposed greatest coach of all time. Okay,
he's going to be this immediate catalyst. Players are going
to want to come play for the Goat, thirty third
NFL team. They're going to run it like a pro
shop where they just developed guys for the NFL. They
got all this money now to spend on nil. Not
only are they playing for the Goat, but everybody's getting
paid now. You should be able to attract a bunch
of talent right away to at least be com Like

(26:47):
that's if Kurt and I'll keep using this example. If
Kurt Signetty can go to a school like Indiana where
they do not care about football historically don't care. They
care more about high school basketball in Indiana, then they
care about who's your football? And Signetty can go to
the playoff and then turn around to reload and maybe
do it again, and he's got the potential Heisman winner
at quarterback again. You mean to tell me that Bill Belichick,

(27:08):
with all his greatness and might, can't compete with USF
under the same conditions. Get the bleep out of here,
like the whole be patient for what he's cooked. He's
a fish out of He's not built for college football.
It was a mistake. I thought he might be able
to come in with the new conditions, paying guys more
professionalized and find a way to win some games. Great

(27:28):
coach x'es and o's, he'd be a factor. Nope, he
hasn't brought any of that with him. He's brought nothing
but distractions, his teeny bopper girlfriend, pardon me, his twenty
four year old girlfriend, you know, a side show on
the field in the headlines for no damn reason, banning
the Patriots from the facility, because well, I'm not welcome
up there. And then Mike Grabel's like, I don't know
what he was talking about. He was just here like
a week ago. I mean, the whole thing's been a joke.

(27:51):
And it's not Carolina fans fault. They were sold a
bill of goods, got it. I feel for Carolina fans.
I know Duke fans and State fans don't, but I'm
not one of those. I feel for Carolina fan who
just wanted a good football team and we're excited about
the university finally investing, and they brought this guy in
and it was unbelievable, pr unbelievable. You couldn't buy this
kind of pr and the dude just was not committed

(28:12):
to it.

Speaker 6 (28:13):
I've also got some potential potential bad news, Kyle on
this front two been more of twenty four to seven
Sports tweeted about a half hour ago, some of y'all
need to oh pablotorya and apology. He just quote tweeted saying, whispers,
my investigation continues. Oooh who So if he finds something else,
what the heck did he find? Well, I guess we'll

(28:34):
find out. Let's go to the phone lines. Donna is
up next, Donna, what's going on?

Speaker 5 (28:39):
Hey, kab Look, you know I am by no means
a Carolina fan. Okay, but what Bill Belichick and his
I love what you said, little teeny Bopper Jordan's has
done to those kids in school is a total disgrace
to the entire state of North Carolina. They do not
need to let him do a soft buyout. They need

(29:02):
to can that chirt class and let him move on
and find a hard hit somewhere with a little miss
teeny Bopper and they can just run off into the sunset.

Speaker 3 (29:13):
Well, she's going to break up with them. In eight months,
she'll be in the headlines for dating somebody new.

Speaker 5 (29:20):
Yeah, yeah, she'll find her another sugar daddy.

Speaker 3 (29:24):
It's ugly, Donna. I bet you feel like good it is.
Go ahead and finish the thought it is.

Speaker 5 (29:29):
And you know, the people who are hurting the most
from this are those players on that field. They're the
ones who people you know, they're the ones that suffering
from this and the all around. I mean, they're out
there wanting the play ball. Thought they was going to
have one of the greatest coaches you know there is
to teach them football and all he's done is teach

(29:52):
them how to go after somebody a quarter of your
age and not give a rat class about anybody else
but them.

Speaker 3 (30:00):
Yeah, now I'm with you, Donna. I appreciate you for
the phone call, Thank you very much. And listen, he
brought that guy I want to bite my tongue. He
brought that guy, Michael Lombardi with him. And apparently Lombardi,
much to the shock of no one, is like the
least liked individual in the Carolina Athletics department who could
have seen that coming. So apparently all of it's bad,
and that's the least surprising part of all of it.

Speaker 6 (30:21):
And I also will say I feel sorry for a
lot of the parents of the kids too, because how
many of us, like I don't have any kids, But
you have kids, Kyle. But if you're let's say your
son was sixteen seventeen, was getting offered by a lot
of schools, or was into transfer a portal and Bill
Belichick comes asking, I mean, wouldn't you want your son
to be coached by Bill Belichick?

Speaker 3 (30:38):
In theory? Yeah?

Speaker 6 (30:39):
Yeah, in fury, And I think a lot of those
people are thinking the fury, Yeah, you're getting coached by
Bill bleeping Belichick.

Speaker 3 (30:44):
He's been coaching long and I've been alive.

Speaker 6 (30:46):
He's one I don't know how many rings he has
knowledge that I have that is in one picking more
than I have my entire body. You think, and now
I'll say it like this, people are just going to
say over the next couple of days and weeks, and
that's been saying, Ah, he's just like he's half ass
in it, Kyle and all honesty. It's being disrespectful to
people that are half ass and stuff. He's not even

(31:07):
half assen, No, he's quarter assing.

Speaker 3 (31:09):
The fact that they even like it's a bye week
your team sucks. Can you imagine Bill Belichick in like
week fifteen of the NFL season, Patriots are struggling a
little bit and he's off to Nantucket for the weekend
and a bye week.

Speaker 6 (31:20):
Players had been ripped for that. Remember when Tony Romo
went to can Kun with Jessica Simpson before.

Speaker 3 (31:25):
The playoff game. Yeah, yeah, players get ripped for that.
But in the Minnesota, then the Minnesota players get ripped
for being on a boat or something too. I'm thinking
of something different on it. You're finking of love vote
with don't worry.

Speaker 6 (31:38):
Fretz Moot knows all too well about that because Tee
Smith burned his ass.

Speaker 3 (31:41):
Yeah, you know what, never mind, let's take a phone call.
Panther Bow was calling in from Dallas. What's going on?

Speaker 1 (31:46):
Bo akab great show as always, thanks for.

Speaker 4 (31:50):
Taking my call. Had to ti him in. You know,
the warning times are there, and I just like you
guys are saying, I feel bad for the for the players,
so bad for the families involved. But you know, the
warning times are there. When there was talks about him
in the spring, lowballing guys in the portal, I know
produced quarterback Ryan Brown transferred there and I probably met
with the great Oz or whatever this.

Speaker 6 (32:10):
I mean.

Speaker 4 (32:11):
You ever listened to Michael Lombardi actually talk on that radio.
He's awful. He just seems like a flying ball. So
it makes sense that Ryan Brown was like, yeah, I'm good,
I'll go back to West off yet I don't even
care if it's a real place or not, and went
back to Purdue. So I don't know where they're gonna got.

Speaker 2 (32:26):
They're gonna probably.

Speaker 4 (32:27):
Fire this guy, but I don't know who they're going
to bring in. What's gonna happen at the end of
the season.

Speaker 2 (32:31):
But for people that just.

Speaker 4 (32:32):
Like, man, it's Bill Belichick, what'd you think was gonna happen?
But at the same time, man, someone that just saw
two years of terrible football for my college, I could understand,
you know, hey, let's go ahead and let's roll the dice.
What what what's the worst that could happen? Well, this
seems like what's the worst that could happen?

Speaker 7 (32:49):
And I gotta tell you, for those boosters that.

Speaker 4 (32:52):
Decided to go above and just kind of put all
that money in there, Oh man, ooh, you could have
donated turf to uh thank of America for that kind
of money. I mean, my goodness, what a way. So yeah,
I had a time to.

Speaker 3 (33:05):
Make KB appreciate you, buddy, Thank you. Bo hope Dallas
is treating you well. I just I keep thinking back
to Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman all
just cackling at the idea of Bill Belichick coaching college kids.
You know what, I just they knew. Those guys knew,
and a lot of a lot of other people did too.

(33:26):
They just cackled like they could not fathom the idea
of this dude. Coaching college kids. I didn't think it
was going to work out. I didn't think it'd be disbad.
Like I said five and seven, heaven in this year.
I just thought he would be maybe hovering around five
hundred a little bit below. For God, that was honestly
best case scenario. If we're looking at it now, and
I know he's not officially been fired, but it's gonna happen.

(33:48):
And now you put yourself in a situation of how
the hell are you actually going to hire your new
head coach because Steve Newmark is still at rals. Finwick Kelowski,
you know, technically the NASCAR season still going for another month,
says he gonna have to get briefings like is he
gonna have to essentially become the ad seven months before?
Because you don't want I know, Bubba's gonna play peacemaker

(34:09):
the best way possible, but you don't want a guy
that's got seven months left on your jobs and they
could just big of a decision. No Steve will be
involved in that, I'm sure, And these are all valid questions,
but the truth is this is the best thing North
Carolina can do. Like, you can't let this fester, You
can't let him finish the season if things are as
bad as they appear to be, so it sucks and
they got egg on their faces, and it's worst case scenario.

(34:29):
But the best thing that Carolina can do now is
what they appear to be doing, and that's just ripped
the band aid off. Give him his buyout money if
you have to, and just send him on his way
and go about trying to fix it. Don't put it
off any longer. Let's go to smoke on the headlines,
all right. This report is brought to you by bet
three six y five. Got ourselves some more postseason baseball updates.

(34:49):
The Tigers bats have come alive here in the latter
half of Game four. They were down three to nothing.
They have scored eight unanswered runs, including a couple of moonshots,
one from a biased really spread the game open. Unless
the manners come back here, and I think they have
three outs left in the game, we're going to be
seeing a Game five and at least one postseason series

(35:10):
in d al and NLDS. Also ongoing right now is
the NLDS Game three between Dcubbies and the Brew Crew.
It is knotted up at actually no d Cubs I
believe I've taken a two or three to one lead
runners at the Corners and Dansby Swampson a Braves legend.
Currently at the play, the Brewers do have a two
to nothing series lead, and later on tonight, the Dodgers

(35:31):
take on the Phillies and Game four of the Alds
between the Yankees and the Blue Jays Yankees Blue Jays
on Fox Sports one and Turner will have the Dodgers Phillies.

Speaker 6 (35:43):
Kyle, do you think both series in tonight or already
Yankees going to force the Game five? And will the
Phillies stay alive?

Speaker 3 (35:50):
Forget another day?

Speaker 6 (35:54):
By the way, while I said that the Cubs pass
ball just got another run across, come across four one cups.

Speaker 3 (36:01):
All right, I'm gonna say the Dodgers go up three
to nothing and the Yankees they extend the series again.
I'm actually kind of rooting for the Yankees to do that.
I don't know why, Like I don't hate the Yankees
that much, but I also don't root for them. Are
you like Kyle's mom, you hate Canada? Yeah? Yeah? Maybe?
All right, we'll come back and wrap up the show.
Sports Radio ninety two to seven wfn Z all right,

(36:32):
don't rewinding today. We want to squeeze in some phone calls.
Bill Belichick appears to be all but fired in Chapel Hill,
or at least moving on, according to all recent reporting.
Get us wherever you get your podcast, Apple, Spotify, Google,
just search the Kyle Bailey Show, download and subscribe. We
sure would appreciate it. Let's take two phone calls and
wrap up the proceedings. Whether Man markets the first call?
What's up?

Speaker 1 (36:51):
Mark?

Speaker 3 (36:51):
How are you?

Speaker 2 (36:53):
Hey Man?

Speaker 9 (36:53):
I never did Hey, kaed Bez, Thanks for taking my call.
I know its late in the shows. Nice talk to
you guys again. I never did like that dude, Bella Check.
I never did like him at all, and I never
knew that I knew that experiment that wasn't gonna work
with him.

Speaker 2 (37:10):
Here is the cheater.

Speaker 9 (37:11):
I never even liked him when he coached for New England.
And the only goat that's ever been a goat. I'm
sorry this is my opinion, I know, but the only
goat that was a New England was Tom Brady and
that's the reason they won those dag on Super Bowls.
That's my opinion. But I'm glad it's about over. He

(37:31):
needs to he needs to move on.

Speaker 2 (37:33):
I never did.

Speaker 9 (37:34):
I couldn't ever stand that news that he was coming
to Carolina. I'm glad they gonna. I'm just hoping New
Journey show you would come out with bricking news that
they'd got rid of him.

Speaker 3 (37:48):
Well, this is I don't think you could get much
closer to that than what we have right now. Mark.
I appreciate the phone call, buddy, hope you're doing well.
It's not official from the university, but multiple people with
ties to the university are reporting pretty clearly that this
thing is close to being over. It sounds to me
like it's a matter of, you know, finding exit locations
for Belichick and his coaches and you know, recruiting violations,

(38:09):
knowing what's true and what's not, and then starting to
move on. Ryan. It's the last phone call of the day.
What's up, Ryan, Hey, cal how's it going.

Speaker 1 (38:18):
I was I was with you, actually, like I thought
for sure he was gonna come to Carolina and went
all So it just shows it shows all of us
that it's you know, a lot a lot of coach,
a lot of football coaches have coached on the college
level and the pro level, and very few you know,
you know, were successful on both. The only two I
can think of right that come to mind that were
successful with both were Jim Harball and Pete Carroll. So

(38:40):
it's very it shows us it's very hard to do,
and it's at a very different level with this whole
thing is a disaster. And I wasn't crazy about him
coming to Carolina, but I thought he would be maybe
the third one that would be cessful of both all.
So it's just a nightmare and a disaster, and you
just don't want to see I'm not a big fan
of his head. If you don't want to see it
go like this for anybody, player or coach, it's just

(39:00):
not it's just not a good It's not a good situation.
This is just terrible for anybody.

Speaker 3 (39:05):
Yeah, I appreciate it, Ryan, I'll be honest with you
one hundred percent, Like I don't care about this. For
Bill Belichick, He'll be fine, don't I don't feel bad
for Bill. I think Bill's the reason that they are
where they are. Bill did not show up with the
level of commitment and focus that I think everybody on campus,
including those who pursued him so hard, expected. This is
on Bill so I don't care about, you know, what
happens to Bill here. I feel bad for the players,

(39:27):
I feel bad for their parents. I feel bad for
the fans who bought into this because Bill sold them
on a vision that he clearly had no real indicator,
real intention of pursuing or of achieving. And this all
ties back to Jordan Hudson for me, all of it.
And people got tired of that story a couple of

(39:47):
months ago, and I got it then, and so we
kind of moved off of it. But I mean, the
first and obvious, most clear red flag was that this
seventy three year old man was parading around with the
twenty four year old girl who he met younger than that,
and we're all supposed to pretend that it's true love
and that it's normal and that, you know, this is
just the way things are. And she's allowed to run
his life and b c seed on the emails and

(40:08):
interject in CBS interviews and force her way in to
dunkin Donuts commercials and be on the field, and like
this all goes back to her. His judgment has been clouded.
Now there are only two things that are undefeated in life,
and we know what they are, and he's being has
been gravely distracted by it. And I don't even think
that's long for this world, this world either, I just don't.
Something tells me there's no fairy tale ending for those two.
