Speaker 2 (00:20):
Our number three Sports Radio ninety two seven wfn Z
emanating live from the Chandler Vaulta Studios, the Carolinas Personal
Injury Lawyers. One call, that's all go to Cvinjurylaw dot com.
That's Cvinjurylaw dot Com. Roman Harper's been pushed back to
(00:40):
five twenty five. We'll check in with him fresh off
the golf course. Coming up in twenty two minutes. We'll
talk first round college football playoff action and we'll get
his thoughts about all things college football and the Panthers
and the Saints and the Buccaneers coming up on Sunday.
Rick Stroud came in here Tampa Bay Buccaneers, longtime beat
reporter and fired people up claim that he doesn't think
(01:01):
Dave Canalis is a very good play caller, and that's
got some people well sending in a lot of texts,
and we're taking your phone calls as well. Seven O
four five, seven ninety six to ten. Would love to
hear from you.
Speaker 3 (01:11):
Right now.
Speaker 2 (01:12):
We go to the phone lines, though, Tyler wants to
talk about the Panthers.
Speaker 3 (01:15):
Tyler, what's going on?
Speaker 4 (01:17):
Yes, sir, good evening, Merry Christmas to you and smoke.
Just a quick analysis I've seen Sadly, I'm a Cowboys fan.
I'm I'm kind of sad to admit that. But why
couldn't they just have a running back get underneath center
instead of just having in three yards in the backfield
and the defense already being back there on him. The
(01:39):
running back could have just took the direct snap. But
I will say this, I think Bryce Young and the
Carolina Panthers are going in the right direction. I do
not think that it's Bryce's fault. I would rather one
hundred times be in that position than what we have
in Dallas right now with Dak. Not saying Dak it's
(02:00):
not a good quarterback, but Dak's had ten years and
he's got maybe one two postseason wins if that so,
I definitely feel like the Panthers is going in the
right direction. And I would much rather have that shoe
on my foot than the one we got currently at Dalla.
And I appreciate your time, No, thank you for the call.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
I appreciate that moving in the right direction overall. I agree,
especially in terms of the roster quality of players. That's
why I think, you know, you want to make the
playoffs this year. You absolutely want to push for that.
There's nothing wrong with looking at seven and seven and
thinking this team should be in the mix and hoping
that they play well, expecting them to continue to play better,
and you know, thinking that, you know, adjusting expectations a
(02:41):
little bit. But you know, I'm looking to twenty twenty six,
another full off season under Dave or Dan's belt here
and thinking, all right, I really want to see him
in twenty twenty six when he has another opportunity to
continue bolstering this rosters. It relates to the running back.
I mean, you don't you don't want a running back
taking a snap under center per se. You know, maybe
rerec shotgun snap. I'll of the wildcat, but we've seen
(03:02):
that not work. Remember exactly right, we've seen that not
work this year.
Speaker 5 (03:05):
They did a wildcat snap against the Bills and it
was very confusing and they messed it up.
Speaker 6 (03:10):
So you got that.
Speaker 5 (03:12):
Plus you've run direct staffs with Christom McCafferty didn't work out.
Just just get Mitchell Evans underneath there and then boom
if you're gonna do that, and if you're hail bent
on Bryce not doing it. So that's my view on it.
By the way, I do want to mention this since
he said he's a Cowboys fan, Kyle. The way things
stand right now, Carolina will be playing Dallas the next
(03:33):
two years, in twenty twenty six and twenty twenty seven,
which means this would mark the longest strick they've played
Dallas ever, because they played him in twenty twenty three,
played him in twenty twenty four, played him this year,
they played him the next two years. They play him
five years in a row. That's never happened. They're the
(03:53):
twenty they could be the twenty twenties version of the Seahawks.
And how we had to schedule Carolina had to schedule
them into twenty tens.
Speaker 6 (04:00):
Just let something I throw out there.
Speaker 3 (04:02):
Yeah, now I hear you.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
I appreciate the phone call Tyler DVR Dave my man
with the maniacal laugh. I love Dave. He's back with us.
There it is, Dave. What's going on?
Speaker 5 (04:12):
What what?
Speaker 7 (04:14):
Sorry?
Speaker 8 (04:15):
I wasn't expecting that.
Speaker 9 (04:16):
I was expecting that from Max.
Speaker 2 (04:17):
But okay, listen. I listened to the Panthers roundtable.
Speaker 8 (04:22):
I hear it, I hear you.
Speaker 7 (04:24):
See.
Speaker 8 (04:24):
I didn't know you woke up that early.
Speaker 3 (04:27):
I'm always listening, Dave.
Speaker 6 (04:28):
I'm always listening, always watching.
Speaker 7 (04:31):
Was asking all right?
Speaker 8 (04:33):
Listen? Here it is in a nutshell.
Speaker 9 (04:36):
You know. Did the loss on Sunday suck?
Speaker 8 (04:39):
Yes? It sucks.
Speaker 9 (04:41):
But here's the thing. Atlanta got swept by Carolina. Atlanta
never had an answer for anything Carolina did. We never
had an answer for anything Tampa did. Okay, I'm sorry,
not Tampa.
Speaker 8 (04:54):
Sorry, sorry New Orleans.
Speaker 9 (04:55):
We never had an answer for anything New Orleans did.
We don't know anything about Tampa yet. I'm not worried
about that. I feel like we're going to go in
and we're gonna beat them Sunday, and then we're gonna
and then I don't care what happens to the Seahawks.
Speaker 8 (05:08):
I care about the next game. I care about.
Speaker 9 (05:11):
Beating Tampa twice and winning the division outright. I think
that's still doable because everybody's got their achilles heel. Like
I said, Atlanta had us, we had New Orleans.
Speaker 6 (05:25):
It's not that big a deal.
Speaker 7 (05:26):
It's annoying, yes, and we need to fix it.
Speaker 8 (05:29):
Yes, but I.
Speaker 9 (05:30):
Still think this season is I still think we.
Speaker 8 (05:32):
Can outright win the division. I'm not worried about it.
We'll see what happens on Sunday.
Speaker 3 (05:38):
All right, thank you, Dave. Appreciate the phone call.
Speaker 2 (05:40):
I did have somebody earlier say, KB, can you give
us a rundown of the potential playoff scenarios?
Speaker 3 (05:47):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (05:48):
Yeah, I mean, you sweep the Bucks, you're in, if
you split with the Bucks, then you need to beat
the Seahawks and hope that the Dolphins can beat the
Buccaneers in.
Speaker 6 (05:58):
Between, which just became a lot harder today since Tua's bench.
Speaker 8 (06:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
So if you're if you're asking how can the Panthers
make the playoffs, which I assume is the core of
your question there, beat Tampa twice and you you're in
or split with Tampa, Beat the Seahawks, and hope that
Tampa loses to the to the Miami Dolphins, who will
now start Quinn yours moving forward as to a talk
of Ilo has been benched.
Speaker 6 (06:20):
So beat Tampa twice. Yeah, that's the way.
Speaker 2 (06:25):
Yeah, absolutely, seven four, five, seven ninety six to ten.
Hit us up on the FanDuel text line.
Speaker 8 (06:30):
J T.
Speaker 3 (06:30):
Is up next on the phones, j T. What's going on?
Speaker 10 (06:34):
Just driving home from Mark. I want to say thank
you for always having a good show on the way
home in the afternoons. You know, talking about this quarterback sneak.
Rico Dawdle was the quarterback in high school and he
took snaps in college at quarterback.
Speaker 4 (06:50):
Why couldn't we use him?
Speaker 3 (06:53):
To use Rico Dawdle.
Speaker 10 (06:55):
Yeah, quarterback sneak. Big enough, done it college level and
in high school. He's a great athlete, so I looked
it up. He I think he scored sixty touchdowns a
quarterback his senior.
Speaker 8 (07:07):
Year in high school.
Speaker 10 (07:09):
I think he can run that quarterback sneak.
Speaker 5 (07:11):
The problem is at a C Reynolds, I think he
was running almost exclusively out of the spread.
Speaker 8 (07:16):
Yeah, but he was still quarterback.
Speaker 3 (07:18):
But you know what I.
Speaker 2 (07:19):
Mean, you said it a second ago, like that out
of the spread wildcat.
Speaker 3 (07:22):
Look.
Speaker 2 (07:22):
I mean, it's been stopped before, so it's no guarantee
that it works. But if you're completely unwilling to run
a quarterback sneak with Bryce, then you have to come
up with something better than what they did.
Speaker 10 (07:32):
Totally agree, they've got to look outside the box in
that instance, because it's happened as several times this year
where we've missed those opportunities that we've had those fourth
and ones and even thirty and ones, we've ran that
and just not gotten it. So we've got to look
somewhere else to take advantage of that. And there's players
there that can do it, not just Rico, but in
(07:52):
thinking of Rico, are other people to play quarterback that
would have been an option.
Speaker 2 (07:56):
So okay, I appreciate it, Thank you, buddy, thank you
for the phone call.
Speaker 3 (08:00):
Listen, whatever your solution is.
Speaker 2 (08:01):
You know, Rico was a quarterback, let him do it,
use a tight end, use the backup court. Would you
hire an offensive minded head coach? The expectation comes with
that that your offensive minded head coach is going to
come up with solutions to issues that you have. Your
personnel might not always be perfect. It certainly wasn't in
Kansas City this year, and you know Andy Reid did
(08:22):
everything he did to you know, masket to figure things out.
But you know, for them it didn't work this year obviously,
and now they're in a pickle with Patrick Mahomes and
the blown up knee and who knows what happens with
Kansas City moving forward. But when you hire an offensive
minded head coach, you expect that offensive minded head coach
to be creative, to come up with solutions to fix things,
(08:43):
to tinker to adjust when things go wrong, when you
lose players to injuries, and sometimes you can only do
so much. But you know, I would have expected that Dave,
the offensive minded guy, would have a better solution for
fourth and inches other than just, hey, we're going to win,
We're going to turn it handed off to the running back.
I don't mind that a lot of the time, but
I mean, watching that play on Sunday, I felt like
(09:04):
they would have had a better chance to convert by
you know, rolling Bryce out and throwing the football or
at least giving him a run pass option there as
opposed to what they did that it turned out to
be completely predictable. Seven oh four five, seven oh ninety
six to ten. Hit us up on the FanDuel text line.
I have got a dude trash trades on the text
line arguing with me to no end about this Sharon
(09:24):
Moore thing. He has incensed that I am of the
opinion that this woman in Michigan is not some out
and out victim of Sharon Moore. Don't I don't get this,
Like I've had two people, but he's the one that
just will not let it go. And I probably should
just ignore the text all together. But he's like, there
is no world in which having a relationship with your
boss isn't sexual harassment. She's one hundred percent the victim here.
(09:45):
She could have what was she supposed to do?
Speaker 3 (09:47):
Say no and destroy her career?
Speaker 2 (09:49):
Yeah, yes, yes. She wasn't hired to blunk the head coach.
She was hired to be the executive assistant.
Speaker 3 (09:56):
To the head coach.
Speaker 2 (09:58):
And so she finally came around to admitting the truth
about Sharon Moore. And I'm completely sensitive to the fact
that maybe he lost it and started stalking her. The
home invasion thing absolutely makes her a victim. But from
start to finish, the idea of this woman is just
a victim.
Speaker 3 (10:11):
She wasn't some.
Speaker 2 (10:12):
Twenty year old Doe eide intern who was coerced by
the head coach. She was a thirty two year old
grown woman engaged in a consensual relationship with the head
coach of Michigan. She even scored a fat rays out
of it. And we're supposed to act like she's just
a victim in all this. That's that's crazy, man. I
don't understand that. I mean, i'd see you nod in
your head. I think we're on the same page about this.
I shouldn't even be acknowledged acknowledging. Holy crap, do we
(10:35):
want anybody to take accountability for anything anymore?
Speaker 3 (10:39):
That's my rant?
Speaker 6 (10:41):
You good?
Speaker 2 (10:42):
You don't want to touch the speed? Yeah, pleust, you
kind of said all that needed to be said. Yeah, God,
I was gonna say.
Speaker 5 (10:48):
I think some people are kind of maybe trying to
equate this to the vincing man thing, But that's a
whole different can of worms.
Speaker 2 (10:53):
She's always a victim because it was her boss. No,
absolutely not. That's ridiculous. Grown people should be held accountable
for the decisions that they make.
Speaker 3 (11:02):
Man, it's nuts.
Speaker 2 (11:04):
Anyway, Moving on seven oh four five seven ninety six
to ten, hit us up on the FanDuel text line.
I also want to somebody asked me earlier KB, if
you guys talked about, you know, whether or not the
oh talked about the Teera McMillan catch incident we did
actually to start the show. If you missed it, the
NFL privately admitted to the Panthers, and I'm using the
phrasing from.
Speaker 7 (11:27):
Who is it?
Speaker 2 (11:28):
I was gonna say, it's not Mike Lombarty, Mike Florio,
Thank you Mike Florio.
Speaker 3 (11:33):
That's uh.
Speaker 6 (11:34):
I know that those two love each other.
Speaker 2 (11:37):
The White Knight on the text lines got me all
turned around. But no, in all seriousness, like Mike Florio
phrased it as the NFL privately told the Panthers that
they should not have overturned the call. And you know,
I heard Mac this morning say that he didn't think
it was a catch. I was listening to it on
(11:58):
the radio at the time, and based on the reactions
of both luked uh say Luke to Cock of Luke
Keikley and Jake deloam.
Speaker 6 (12:06):
Be very interesting.
Speaker 3 (12:07):
That would be an interesting booth.
Speaker 2 (12:08):
Yeah, you know, those guys both seemed to think in
the moment it was not a catch all right. So
then I went back and rewatched it, and I thought, huh,
I get it because it does seem to touch the ground.
Speaker 5 (12:21):
But the ball didn't really move that mucher at all,
and he.
Speaker 2 (12:25):
Seemed to have his right hand firmly palming the football.
The entire way through the barrel roll like, there was
no bobbling or jarring. It's that the hand came out
from underneath the football, initially his left hand, but the
right hand stayed firmly on the football, and so I thought, oh,
that looked kind of smooth. I mean, I can see
why they called it a catch, but all right, upon replay,
(12:46):
it does look like it touched the ground. Well, the
NFL told the Panthers, yeah, there was not enough evidence
on that video replay to have overturned that call. Now
you know again, you know, it didn't cost the Panthers
the game, right, didn't cost the Panthers the game. But
at the same time, it calls into question once again,
(13:08):
does the NFL have really a firm grasp still to
this day of what a catch is?
Speaker 3 (13:12):
And I don't think that they do based on that.
Speaker 2 (13:14):
So I don't know what more to say about it
other than it was it was an odd decision by
the NFL to reach out and say, yeah, you know,
we probably shouldn't have overturned that. I don't know how
the Panthers reacted to that inside the building, you know
what I mean.
Speaker 5 (13:28):
I probably didn't react to it as much because like
he said earlier, the next play you got the first down.
You know, if that was a play that was on
a third down where he didn't get it and then
they were forced to punt it away, I think it'll
be viewed differently, but it was one of those where
it was kind of a broken play didn't work out,
but then the next play to get the first down anyway,
so it kind of renders that whole thing obsolete in
(13:51):
some ways. I think the play that you're looking more
at is, you know, the sack afterwards or the penalties
that got called for Lafe Ransom and Derek Brown. That's
what I think you're probably more frustrated with, if we're
being honest, Yeah, they're not upset at that because honestly
thought when I saw it, they reviewed it, I'm like, hurry, Harry,
because they're gonna overturn this. I didn't think it was
(14:13):
a catch in a moment, and then I saw and
I'm like, maybe you could stay catch because it was
called a catch on the field. I'll give the replay
booth and the rests, you know, the rest that were
awful in that game.
Speaker 2 (14:24):
Yeah, a little bit of leeway on that play. Now
it did cost the Panthers some time. I'll point that out.
Yeah did in the end, Yes, it did cost them
some time. So like there was that we haven't really
debated that aspect of it very much, but just to
call itself, you know, or the decision itself to say, hey,
you know, I know it didn't really matter that much,
but just so you know, they shouldn't have overturned that call.
(14:47):
And it's like, all right, well, if you're the Panthers, like, uh, okay,
I can't imagine they sent the tape in, you know
what I mean. I don't think the Panthers sent the
film in to say, uh, you know, hey, look at this.
The NFL sounds like they just looked at it and said, yeah,
we had a mistake here.
Speaker 6 (15:00):
Oh I bet they sent the tape in.
Speaker 2 (15:02):
On some other calls though, to be a fly on
the wall inside that building this week as it relates
to the Tyler Shuck penalty, especially and like I've told
you multiple times, I've heard some people go after Ikey
for the unsportsmanlike I just can't disagree with.
Speaker 6 (15:16):
That more before he even touched him.
Speaker 2 (15:19):
I mean, he didn't punch Cam Jordan, he didn't knock
him off his feet. He didn't grab him by his
face mask.
Speaker 6 (15:23):
It was a light push.
Speaker 3 (15:25):
He just grabbed a hold of him and said, keep
your hands off my quarterback.
Speaker 5 (15:28):
I'm paraphrasing, yeah right that that should not be a
flag as long as he does that and he doesn't
force him to the ground to push his weight and
go put him onto his seat, kind of like what
we saw between the Seahawks and the Texans earlier this year.
Speaker 6 (15:42):
All right, play all now.
Speaker 5 (15:45):
If it happens again in the same game, yeah, you
float thro flag at that point, but come on, soft.
Speaker 6 (15:52):
Sharma soft, all.
Speaker 2 (15:54):
Right, well, come back, we'll talk some football with Roman Harper.
Stick Around Sports Radio ninety two to seven wfn Z.
Speaker 6 (16:01):
Jackson Man.
Speaker 3 (16:07):
Down with the crime, Up that job Sprimsjaccent Man.
Speaker 8 (16:17):
Down with the up that job time.
Speaker 2 (16:21):
Hey, cruising on a Wednesday, KB and smoke Kevin a
good time.
Speaker 8 (16:25):
You know.
Speaker 2 (16:25):
One thing we haven't talked about yet is that Biff
Pogi who was spoofed by South Park as it relates
to the Michigan skit. You haven't seen this, have you?
You didn't see it? Oh yeah, sooner. Mike sent it
to me earlier. There's a clip from South Park spoofing
the Sharon More Michigan scandal, and they refer the the
fake ad on South Park says We're going to be
coached by Biff Pogarogi uh until he's fired or arrested.
Speaker 3 (16:48):
That that was the line on South Park.
Speaker 2 (16:50):
So I bring that up to say Biff Pogi is
apparently lobbying in ann Arbor to be the full time
permanent head coach of the Michigan Wolverines.
Speaker 9 (16:57):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (16:58):
By the way, that was not actually Southmore. Really that
was Ai. No, man, you can't trust anything that was Sora. Yeah,
you can't trust anything people.
Speaker 5 (17:08):
Created this because I don't know if it was Ai,
but to use templates to basically party South Park. So yeah,
because network hasn't had an episode in the last couple
of weeks.
Speaker 3 (17:17):
Ago, I'm mad.
Speaker 2 (17:18):
But you know what, shame on me because we live
in that time where you can't trust it anything is real.
Speaker 7 (17:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (17:23):
I was going to say South Park hasn't had episode
for a couple of weeks.
Speaker 3 (17:27):
You watch everyone still, No, but I know what their
schedule is. That's weird.
Speaker 2 (17:32):
You know their schedule, but you don't watch the show,
not every week. Okay, we'll come back to that. Yeah,
catlet's let's let's bring in Roman Harp for two time
pro bowler, Super Bowl champion SEC Network candalyst fresh off
the golf course back with us for a Wednesday conversation.
Speaker 3 (17:48):
Roman, how you swing him out there today?
Speaker 8 (17:51):
Dude? First of all, it's cold out here.
Speaker 1 (17:53):
The ball doesn't travel, and playing at Carmel today, you
had to freaking hammer the ball on the on the greens,
which normally is not the case here. Green's very slow today,
it's cold. It's what it was. I had a great
time because I got to play eighteen.
Speaker 8 (18:05):
And tail Smoke.
Speaker 1 (18:07):
Whenever you're watching or like I think Cam Newton said that,
that's what you call a ghost follower where you look
but you don't actually double click. You just like lurking
in the weeds out the Integra. Yeah, you're just out
there lurking. That's what he's doing with South Park. Like
you're saying, we know the schedule, but you're not committed
to watching on a week's week basis.
Speaker 8 (18:27):
You're kind of a ghost follower.
Speaker 2 (18:29):
Okay, Smoke's a lurker. I think that. Yeah, smokes a lot.
He didn't like that, the look on his face when
I say he didn't like that, all right? So yeah, well,
I mean, but real quickly. I mean, I was with
you when you started this golf journey a couple of
years ago, and you really committed to it.
Speaker 3 (18:44):
Has the game improved? What's your handicapped these days?
Speaker 8 (18:46):
The game has improved.
Speaker 1 (18:48):
I'm probably like a I saw the other day. It
was a fifteen to three. But the thing is, like
Kyle hadn't played in over a month. It's been a grind,
and today was definitely a grind. I mean, I hit
the ball pretty good. I stopped losing off balls after
about whole five or six.
Speaker 8 (19:02):
Cool, and like all of a sudden, it was like, okay, I.
Speaker 1 (19:04):
Dial did him for about seven or eight holes and
then I had a part three.
Speaker 8 (19:08):
I put one in the water.
Speaker 6 (19:09):
But other night it was good, good for you.
Speaker 8 (19:11):
It was it was like what I thought it would be.
Not good.
Speaker 1 (19:14):
It's not terrible. I'm way better than I used to be,
and it was fun. I got to play golf for
the first time a long time.
Speaker 6 (19:21):
I like it.
Speaker 2 (19:21):
All right, Cool, let's talk some football here, any thoughts
were talking?
Speaker 1 (19:24):
Charon Moore, Sharon Moore, he will go down as the
dumbest coach maybe of all time. Like seriously, like the
more and more that comes out, I mean, you're following
Instagram models, You're like hit them up on the DMS.
You order him Plan B to the facility, like these
are just all like he had no friends, Like where's
(19:44):
this boy at? That's like, dude, you're being real flagrant
right now, you're tripping like he had, Like where are
those people at? And he will go down the fact
that he it was two or three hundred million dollars
giving away this offseas into coaches that have been fired yep,
and he added zero to the deficit. Lets me know
(20:05):
that you are got to be one. You going down
as one of the dumbest of all time and he
nobody cared that he cheated cal Nobody cares like he
could have had another job out in LA.
Speaker 8 (20:17):
With Harball in like three weeks.
Speaker 6 (20:18):
Yes, but now I don't.
Speaker 1 (20:20):
Know you could come around and coach our young people anymore.
Speaker 8 (20:24):
It like went that far because of the crash out.
Speaker 2 (20:27):
That that's the part, Like I mean I said yesterday,
can you imagine being like nineteen twenty years old being
on that team and you know you're all of a
sudden reading headlines about your head coach offering tickets to
an OnlyFans model for a foursome, Like, I mean, i'd
speaking of golf, but like.
Speaker 8 (20:45):
It's crazy, Like seriously, this will go down as.
Speaker 6 (20:48):
An all timer, is you think?
Speaker 8 (20:50):
You think?
Speaker 1 (20:51):
And it's still kind of creeping out. And not only that,
but shout out to his wife who still showed up
to court with him or something the other day, because
he's strong to that. But I'm telling you he is
underneath the boot, bro. Now, I mean that he'll has
gotten the ten twelve inches now, Like, Bro, he's deep
and it's going to be so interesting how it all
comes out, Like when it's done done, it's not even.
Speaker 6 (21:11):
Close, but got to be the dumbest all time all time.
Speaker 3 (21:15):
I'm with you, brother, I really am.
Speaker 2 (21:17):
Sounds like by the way, your guy Kaylen Debor pretty
much shut down any possibility of him going to Michigan.
I thought he'd be a great fit personally, but sounds
like Kayln de Bor has no interest.
Speaker 1 (21:26):
Well tole, I would say, duh, Like Alabama is a
better job than Michigan. Misigan has a lot of lore.
The Big ten is coaching different than the SEC but
he signed up knowing he came to replace Nick Taban.
Now that's a different agenda in the different mindset. Already,
he talked about how his wife and his kids enjoyed
that area and how much test Salution has embraced him,
(21:48):
and like, the only thing I would say is I
wanted him to kind of flirt with Michigan a little bit,
just to let you know, sometimes it's okay to you know,
sometimes you got to let the one you would know,
like I can still get got, you know. Like I
think it's a happy medium with that at times when
you're in the dating game, especially the way coaching is
(22:09):
and where college sports is right now, the influx of
moving around and things of that nature. So sometimes Alabama
doesn't appreciate what they do have with Kaylyn de Boor.
And sometimes the only way to kind of get to
know that or let other people know that is to.
Speaker 8 (22:23):
Flirt with somebody else.
Speaker 1 (22:24):
And it's interesting and it's great to be wanted at times.
And I appreciate Kaylen the boy because overall he's just.
Speaker 8 (22:30):
A great human being.
Speaker 1 (22:31):
So I've never worried about that because in his mind,
I thought the mission was the mission's not complete. And
he's not quitting until the mission's complete. I think he's
wired that way, and so I've never worried about it.
But it's interesting that his name will continue to come
up for any job, especially in the Midwest, because that's
where he comes from and he has roots there.
Speaker 2 (22:48):
He sure does. Roman Harper hanging out with us here
on the hotline. I was talking to Ryan McGee yesterday
and he referenced something you said as it relates to
the playoffs this weekend. He said, you know, Roman says that, Hey,
people like to talk about Georgia haha having an Alabama problem,
but Alabama seems to have an Oklahoma problem.
Speaker 3 (23:03):
That's our first round.
Speaker 2 (23:04):
Yeah, that's our first round playoff matchup on Friday night.
As an analyst for the conference, but a guy who
knows Alabama really well, like, what's it going to take
and what is it about Oklahoma that seems to frustrate
these guys?
Speaker 8 (23:16):
Well? Number one, Brett Vnables puts out great game plans.
There's a couple of things.
Speaker 1 (23:22):
Let's start with the basics, right, how about you just
don't turn the football over three times? Start there, all, right,
understand what they did to you and that as I
went back and watched the tape again, I'll be honest, Kyle,
Alabama's offensive line didn't play as terrible as I thought
they did. They competed and did some really good things there.
(23:44):
They played worse versus Georgia than they did versus Oklahoma,
even though Oklahoma kind of laid out the blueprint of
what to do versus Alabama. Understand that Brett Venables is
using certain body types and abilities and attributes to put
pressure on you and where the blitzes and things are
coming from despite or don't look at. Don't get so
(24:04):
caught up in the look and the numbers of Okay,
I got four guys on this side of the center,
I got three over here, So let's think about going
that way where the four is no Who's in those
bodies positions matters more. And so when you have number
ten Kip Lewis, he's the guy that was the absolute
game wrecker versus the first time he's blitzing.
Speaker 8 (24:26):
Get the protection to him, Understand where he is at.
Speaker 1 (24:30):
And I had the I'm blessed and fortunate that I
got to work with a quarterback by the name of
Drew Brees that was so good at identifying where pressures
were coming based upon the number that was blitzing. Also
the body language. Right, it would be like okay, Mike
fifty whatever to the right. He say said, h next,
you know, he sees a corner kind of leaning in
(24:51):
doing things that naturally a corner doesn't do when they're
in coverage. As a matter of fact, packard all the
way out to the corner. So like using those identification keys,
I think it's going to be really important for Alabama
and ty Simpson. He has to understand those things and
it sometimes it's such a big advantage when you play
a team for the second time and you kind of
(25:12):
learn what they did the first time that worked versus you,
and so how do you counteract those things? And of
course Oklahoma watches the same film, so they're going to
try some different things too. But I know what I
wouldn't do is lose the same way, and so you'd
have to find a different way to beat me than
what you did the first time. And Oklahoma has success,
so they're going to do a lot of the similar
things and try and disguise it in different ways.
Speaker 8 (25:33):
And they use motion.
Speaker 1 (25:34):
So Alabama motioning, you know, it's not just the indicator
to show ty Simpson what the defense is doing. It's
also an indicator for the defense to know when I
just start to get out of my look and get
ready to blitz or do some other things that we
have disguised. So how do you do those things and
counteract those things. I'm really looking forward to it because
of the way you match up.
Speaker 8 (25:53):
The second time.
Speaker 1 (25:53):
Georgia did a good job versus Alabama the second matchup
of playing less zone, more Manda man, tightening up the
coverages and presenting different looks than what Alabama was expecting
from the first game. That was really good for them.
It'll be interesting to see what happens for Oklahoma as
well in the same type of matchup, not just Alabama's
offense versus Oklahoma's defense, but also what is Oklahoma's offense
(26:16):
do to try and create some plays because they really
struggled as well versus Alabama's defense.
Speaker 2 (26:21):
Roman we on Saturday have both of the G five
teams in David and Goliath type matchups.
Speaker 3 (26:27):
Earlier can pardon me.
Speaker 2 (26:28):
Earlier this year Ole Miss beat up on Tulane forty
five to ten. Jmus going into Oregon, I believe is
a twenty one and a half point favorite. What do
you I mean, who's got the better chance to pull
the upset here? And I'll just give you the floor.
Which team, which matchup is more ripe for an upset
if we get one at all.
Speaker 1 (26:46):
I don't think we get either one. If I was
to say one was more right for the upset, it
would be Tulane versus Ole Miss, just because both coaching
staffs are in influx. You know Lane kipp is no
they head coach at Old Miss. You know how Pete
Golding with Weiss junior the offensive coordinator's come back to
(27:07):
call plays but totally different. And then you also have
John summerl who's double duty in it from Tulane and
at Florida. When I look at JMU, their coaching staff
is leaving as well. But I think Oregon overall is
just too fast, too explosive for JMU to deal with
them for four quarters. I totally could see them being
close in the first half, but I don't know about
(27:29):
four quarter upset thing. Even though I'm not totally impressed
with Oregon, I don't think their downfield passing game is
that good. I think they're just better athletes than who
they've been playing in the Big Ten this year when
they've actually played good teams.
Speaker 8 (27:42):
So I would say Tulane and lean towards that.
Speaker 1 (27:45):
But Tulane, when you go back and I've watched the
tape and I'm football is like all in my mind
right now, Kyle, is that the wide receivers of Tulane
did not create enough separation to really threaten Old Miss
an Old Miss.
Speaker 8 (27:59):
You look the score they won.
Speaker 1 (28:00):
They lost by five touchdowns, but the score was twenty
three to three with two minutes to go in the
third quarter. So it wasn't like just blowout Central the
whole time. It got uglier the longer they played, but
that's what this game kind of expected at what it was.
And Tulane's wide receivers made no plays, and so they
have to continue to make more plays in this game.
(28:21):
They made more plays in the AAC Championship, the All
American Championship game versus North Texas, they made more plays,
and so if they can bring that type of production
over into versus Old Miss.
Speaker 8 (28:34):
It gives them a better chance.
Speaker 1 (28:35):
But that's really hard to say and that they're going
to be able to do because Ole Miss did a
great job of covering guys and challenging wide receivers and
ultimately won the games because of their defense consistency and
also Tulane had a couple turnovers and you can't do
that when you're the underdog. As far as talent and
ability in a game that's.
Speaker 8 (28:55):
On the road, this would be in the more.
Speaker 1 (28:57):
This will still be on the road again for two
but they got to get those things clinged up if
they want to at least make this thing close.
Speaker 2 (29:03):
All right, I'll get you out of here on this
so you can hang in the clubhouse and celebrate that
great round of yours y.
Speaker 3 (29:09):
Yeah, you're welcome.
Speaker 2 (29:10):
Panthers Saints on Sunday, Carolina kind of did the most
Carolina thing they could do. They blow another chance against
the Saints and you know, there's a lot to say
about it. Lots of penalties in this game and lots
of things that Panthers fans are unhappy about. What did
you think about the game? Whatever you saw of it?
And I guess bonus question there, what do you think
of Tyler Shuck?
Speaker 1 (29:30):
You know, I love New Orleans because they're already started
like a Tyler Shuck dance it's been like a song.
Speaker 8 (29:36):
It's kind of like just.
Speaker 1 (29:37):
So New Orleans, right, he's got gold and diamonds in
his mouth, and the pitchers that they're doing the meme.
It's been funny like this is like so new Wardens
in Louisiana. So I love it, especially when we do
this to our white guys, like it's hilarious.
Speaker 8 (29:50):
So, but if you.
Speaker 1 (29:51):
Actually look at the game, cop I actually really enjoyed it.
Number One, the fact that Carolina Panthers have games that
are being flexed late in the season.
Speaker 8 (30:00):
Its you how far this team has come.
Speaker 1 (30:01):
We talked about it early, like how they were terrible,
how they've been good. They've been so up and down.
They don't know how to consistently win at a high basis.
This is going to be a tough game. But look
at the playoff environment that the game felt like.
Speaker 8 (30:15):
It felt like it was a playoff game.
Speaker 1 (30:17):
This is good experience for this Carolina Panthers team. Did
they play good enough to win at times at places?
Yes they did, But how many penalgies did they get
on that game that gave New Orleans first downs not
just a five yard penalty but ten yard hands to
the face penalties that extended drives on the one eleven
minute drive that heard you and You and Smoke talking
(30:40):
about just the other day how disappointing it was when
they went for eleven minutes of a drive, the Panthers
gave them three or four first downs, did not drive along,
and then the last one when it look it's tough
to play football right now, to be a defensive player,
because I want the guys to go full speed, but
it's hard to all of a sudden, all of a
sudden be able to pull up.
Speaker 8 (30:58):
Ransom wants to make a play.
Speaker 1 (31:00):
Tyler Shucks tells it, you know, quarterback back, like they
just killed the guy and you just barely tap them, like,
and you can't be mad at him either, because I
don't want Bryce showing to do the same thing. And
so then you get an extra fifteen and you lose it.
That way, It really showed me that neither one of
these teams are great, but that both of these teams
are young.
Speaker 8 (31:19):
They're learning how to win games.
Speaker 1 (31:20):
And sometimes this will go in another category for the
Panthers up. You have to learn what to do not
to lose a game so much as you have to
learn what to do to win the game, and this
is a great learning experience.
Speaker 8 (31:34):
At the end of the day, you have Tampa for.
Speaker 1 (31:36):
Two out of the last game, two out of the
last three games to be able to clinch the playoffs
and the division, and Tampa's heading in the wrong direction.
You're still a team that's trending up. Tampa's a team
that's trending down, and so hopefully you pass them on
the way, the same way we did in twenty fourteen
where we were seven to eight and one and we
were terrible teams, but we won the last couple of
(31:57):
games and we got hot at the right time, hosted
a playoff home game, and we won that game too.
And it's kind of crazy because, like, you don't have
to be great, you just have to be better than
everybody else in your division. And right now, Carolina still
has a chance to do that. New Orleans just wanted
to play spoiler. Carolina has things to still play for
and this team, it's a season for a reason, and
they still have a lot of things to be able
(32:17):
to accomplish, and this team is building for the future.
But man, I don't think they realize that they can
still win it right now.
Speaker 2 (32:23):
Hey, since you mentioned it, just real quick, based on
what you said, are you in favor of then what
JJ Watt and JJ Jansen are proposing this week, that
we just banned the quarterback baseball slide altogether.
Speaker 1 (32:35):
No, Like you can't just be mad because it didn't
work out for you. It's like when Minnesota all of
a sudden complains.
Speaker 2 (32:43):
JJ Watt's not mad about that. He didn't he doesn't
have a horse in this race. He just thinks they
should ban the quarterback baseball slide all together because these
quarterbacks are exploiting a rule that was intended to protect them.
Speaker 7 (32:54):
Duh, duh.
Speaker 1 (32:55):
Like this has been going on forever, Like, you can't
be mad now, And I don't want to hear anything
from JJ about protecting anybody. This dude's snapper, bro, He's
got ultimate protection and he plays like eight plays a game.
Stop it look nobody cares, like like you have to
get over it.
Speaker 8 (33:10):
It's just part of the business.
Speaker 1 (33:11):
Like there's no the defense has no they don't make
any rule to.
Speaker 8 (33:16):
Benefit the defense.
Speaker 1 (33:17):
It's been that way forever, and you just have to
understand that the only the only advantage defenses used to
have was fear and they've taken that away from you too,
And so quarterbacks throw the ball over the middle of
the field freely without even thinking second hesitation. Instead of like, man,
my dude's about to get blasted, which is what they
used to be. They don't even have that worry anymore
because they want to get the penalty thrown and so like,
(33:38):
it's just part of the game. You have to learn
how to adjust to it. And defensively, you have to
learn how to make teams beat you still, and neither
one of these teams are great, Kyle. It wasn't a
pretty game, but man, you played good enough in some
areas to win it, but it wasn't good enough when
you had to have it. And I tell you this
goes in another bucket of we have to learn what
(34:00):
to do not to lose the game.
Speaker 8 (34:02):
And of course you.
Speaker 1 (34:02):
Love to complain when it doesn't work in your favor,
but if it was on the other shoes on the
other foot, you'd be like, hey, man, you gotta how
to pull up.
Speaker 8 (34:10):
And that's just what it is.
Speaker 1 (34:12):
The same way when we beat Minnesota in the NFC
Championship game, next to you know, now both teams got
to touch the ball instead, we just got the ball,
got a couple first downs, kick the field goal walked
off and everybody was mad at it because Brett Park
didn't have a chance to come back down and try
and score. And so now like all these rules are
meant to benefit the offense, and more rules will continue
to change as people feel like life's not like the
(34:33):
game's not fair, but life's not fair, and all we're
doing is a disservice. And if it benefits you, congratulations,
And when it doesn't, nobody feels sorry for you.
Speaker 2 (34:42):
Ahi, buddy, going enjoy your post Brown, Bruce Kee, we'll
talk to you next week.
Speaker 1 (34:46):
It's actually a bullet bullet bourbon, and thank you Role Tide.
Speaker 8 (34:51):
We got big business this weekend and I'm gonna leave
it at that.
Speaker 1 (34:55):
I'm not gonna talk too much trash, but just know
if they let us in this thing, so.
Speaker 3 (34:59):
Whatever whatever happens, happens.
Speaker 2 (35:01):
Roman Harper, two time pro bowler, Super Bowl champion, SEC
Network analyst with US live from the clubhouse, following around
that we have Texters saying they don't believe Roman played
well today, based on his response of oh I had fun.
Speaker 3 (35:13):
So you know, we'll leave that there let's go to
Smoke on the headlines.
Speaker 6 (35:19):
All right, the Hornets injury report has come out.
Speaker 5 (35:21):
Kyle, Yes, LaMelo Ball is questionable ooh for tomorrow's game
against the Atlanta Hawks, Pat Connotan, Trey Man, Colin Sexton,
and Grant Williams all remain out. But do what also
point out to Trey Young's also questionable as they're playing
the Hawks, and Chris taps Porzingis will be out.
Speaker 6 (35:42):
He's going to be out for the next two to
four weeks, all right, So.
Speaker 5 (35:46):
Yeah, it's actually, honestly, the biggest concern is the fact
that Colin Sexton's still out at this point.
Speaker 3 (35:53):
Yeah, that you're right, that is the biggest He's.
Speaker 5 (35:55):
Still like he's one of those guys that if he's
still out by this point, yeah, it's probably pretty.
Speaker 2 (35:58):
Hard there's something wrong with him. Yeah, yeah, yeh, I'm
with you on that. What else you got anything?
Speaker 8 (36:01):
That's it?
Speaker 2 (36:01):
All right, We'll come back and wrap up the show.
Sports Radio ninety two seven wfn Z Hey one final time,
(36:24):
Sports Radio ninety two seven wf n z KB and
Smoke emanating live from the Chandler Voulta Studios. The Carolinas
Personal Injury Lawyers one call. That's all go to CV
injurylaw dot com. Great show, a lot of fun. We
appreciate you begin with us. We hope to do it
again tomorrow. A Niche Shroff, voice of the Panther stops
by horn its head coach Charles Lee, as well as
(36:46):
they're back in action tomorrow night, and Willie p making
his Thursday appearance. So should be a fun show lined
up for a Thursday. But right now we have to
catch you up on what you've missed. It's time for
the rewind and we go back to our number one,
Seth Greenberg, former two time ACC Coach of the Year
ESPN College Basketball and College Game Day analyst saying, this
(37:09):
Carolina team is a little bit of a throwback.
Speaker 11 (37:12):
Yeah, they're back to the future. I mean that's the
best way for meeting describe. They're back to the future.
They look like Carolina team and they got athleticism, you
know in the front corner Wilson. They've got a dominant
guy that has versatility, and these are you see developing
players across the board. When they get to Trimble back,
they'll have one more dog to add to the lineup.
(37:32):
Who you know, he's the only rotation player that's basically
back with them, and he's got incredible leadership skills. You
can spend multiple positions, you can make enough shots, you
can get to the rim. But while he's been out,
you've seen.
Speaker 12 (37:48):
The development of a Derek Dixon who's now getting more confidence.
Speaker 7 (37:51):
So when he.
Speaker 12 (37:51):
Comes back, he's coming back to and I said, this
is the same thing about Darren Peterson. He's coming back
to a more mature, confident team.
Speaker 2 (38:00):
Later in the show, Rick Stroud longtime beat reporter covering
the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the Tampa Bay Times. Here's
Rick saying that, despite reports, he does not think that
the Buccaneers locker room has quit on head coach Todd Bowles.
Speaker 7 (38:15):
I was in the locker room today. I've been in
it before this week on Monday, and there's nobody, you know,
down in the mouth about Todd Bowles. Do they know
that if they lose and lose big there could be
a change coming. Yeah, they probably figured that out, but
no one's out there making business decisions, you know, waiting
for the next guy to take over. I mean, that
(38:35):
just hasn't happened.
Speaker 2 (38:36):
Later in the same conversation and the bit that really
got listeners fired up today, Here's Rick Stroud, who mind
you covered Dave Canalis when he was there for a
year as the Tampa Bay offensive coordinator. Here's Rick Stroud
with his thoughts on Dave Canalis the play caller.
Speaker 7 (38:51):
I would say this about Dave. His strength is not
playing calling. Okay, now you may not agree with that assessment,
but it's true. And you know, and if you ask
people in this building and players in particular, they will
tell you that. Now, having said all that, I know
he pad stances himself as an offensive call play caller.
(39:14):
When he got here. He hadn't done it since Carson
High School in California. Now, you know, just because you're
in the NFL, and this is what I would do.
All that kick great, but they didn't run. They were
last in the league in rushing, I believe when when
Dave was here, and you know, they didn't have a
lot of answers at the line of scrimmage right for
the quarterback to get out of places. I don't know
(39:34):
if that's changed. I suspect it hadn't changed a whole lot.
But those those things will get you. I always thought
that he would be a better head coach than a
play call, you know, because a lot of the job
of the head coaches to set the tone. I think
he's done that, Carolina.
Speaker 3 (39:51):
That's the rewind.
Speaker 2 (39:52):
I look back into the show each and every day
as we wrap things up as a reminder to get
us wherever you get your podcast, Apple, Spotify, Google just
searched the Kyle Bailey download and subscribe.
Speaker 3 (40:01):
We sure would appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (40:02):
We go tipping our caps courtesy of our friends at
Neogenics where they help heal joint pain naturally with no surgery,
no medication, no downtime. Go to neogenicstem sales dot com.
Smoke what you got.
Speaker 5 (40:13):
Gotta go with John Shire getting to one hundred wins
just quickly at Duke, absolutely incredible and ad beat Vic
Bubis to one under wins, which, by the way, Vic
Bubis does not get enough credit for what he did
as a head coach to do because Duke wasn't nothing
before coach k got there. Vic Bubis was the one
that really established the culture. But anyway, tip the cap
(40:33):
to John Shire.
Speaker 2 (40:34):
I'm gonna tip my cap to our buddy Paul VI
and Cardi and I feel like a jerk for not
bringing this up on Monday. But he got a contract
extension at ESPN which will extend his tenure there beyond
the twenty year mark. And I think Paul is one
of the best people in the business, one of the
best basketball minds in the business. We are incredibly fortunate
to have him on the show every Monday, and he
(40:56):
got a well deserved contract extension a few days ago.
With ESPN hip of the cap to Paul being Cardi
back tomorrow, Anee Shroff, Charles Lee, Willie pe stopping. It
should be a lot of fun until then. For Smoke,
I'm KB at Sports Radio ninety two seven WFNZ.
Speaker 1 (41:10):
You're going to be dead in a one hundred years anyway,
live dangerously
