Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the Kyle Bailey Show, powered by Victory Chevy Charlotte,
where every month is Truck Month. Victory Chevy Charlotte Your
Silverado Destination.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
Adam feel has been traded. Ikyakwanu's got a rupture to
appendix and underwent an appendectomy. On Sunday, two weeks out
before the opener in Jacksonville, the practice squad is set.
Hunter Renfro apparently is still talking to the Panthers about
potentially playing at some point, but he has to decide
what he wants to do. Dave Canalis has been speaking
to the media and we've got some of the audio.

(00:45):
We're going to bring to you in just a little bit,
so stick around because Dave, we haven't heard the audio yet.
I've just seen the clips, or rather quotes of Dave
describing it Kyakuanu's appendect tom Me and talking about Hunter Renfro.
So we'll get to the audio here in the five
o'clock hour quick thirty minute Reminder rather twenty six minute reminder.
Make sure to sign up to win a pair of
tickets to Charlotte and app State in the Duke's Mayo

(01:07):
Classic on Friday at Bank of America. Stadium text the
word app app and only the word app to the
fan duel text line to get in and registered to win.
We're giving away another pair of tickets today on the show.
Both athletic directors from app State and Charlotte have joined
the show thus far today, and I love them both,
but they pale in comparison to our buddy Roman Harper,

(01:28):
two time Pro Bowler, Super Bowl champion, former safety for
the Alabama Crimson Tide, New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers SEC
network analyst with a brand new contract extension at the
Four Letter Network. Roman Harper is back with us for
his Wednesday conversation. Have I hyped you up enough? What's
going on?

Speaker 3 (01:43):
Brother?

Speaker 2 (01:44):
How are you well?

Speaker 1 (01:46):
Yeah? Man, I appreciate that. I'm feeling good. Cown. So
I just cut on the TV and looked at the news.
It's just way too much stuff going on. I should
just not watch TV today.

Speaker 2 (01:53):
Oh yeah, turn turn that off, Just turn on film,
turn on some music, literally anything.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
Elseut it off. Yeah. I cut the team. I was like,
it's way too much going on out there. All right? Yeah, man,
appreciate it though, dog, How you been I'm good?

Speaker 2 (02:05):
Congrats on the extension. By the way, they must like
the work you're doing over there at the SEC network.

Speaker 1 (02:11):
Uh. Yeah, you know, it's kind of like football, you know,
they always want to keep you as long until they
can find somebody to replace you for cheaper or somebody younger,
and so yeah, until that time hits. I guess yeah,
I'm there, Okay, I get it.

Speaker 2 (02:25):
I'll actually uh, I'll stay there for a second. SEC
Nation all the coverage this weekend. Where are you headed?
Where are you guys going to be?

Speaker 1 (02:32):
We will be in Atlanta for Tennessee versus Syracuse in
the Mercedes whatever they call it, the Mercedes Dome. Yeah.
New Orleans is a super dome, so I don't know
what they call Mercedes little thing. So there's not little
but Mercedes in Atlanta. And then we'll also be covering
your boys on Sunday as well as South Carolina versus

(02:54):
Virginia Tech. I would love to know your opinion on
that game as well.

Speaker 4 (02:58):
Well.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
You and I have we have a chat much this week,
so I have not told you I will see you
in Atlanta on Sunday. I will be there, so I'm excited.
Bringing Pops, Me and Dad are going to jump in
the truck and head down Sunday morning. My thoughts are
I've started to get that fan tangling that I think
the Hookies are winning the football game. I've started to
get that fluttering feeling in my heart that it's not

(03:19):
acid reflux or anything like that. I'm starting to get
that feeling that the Hokies are going to win this game.
I think South Carolina's defense can be taking advantage of
early in the season as they rebuild it. And you know,
I think that the new offensive coordinator at Virginia Tech
can help Kyen Drones and company put points on the board.
So there is some heart at play here. I admit

(03:39):
that that's the fan in me, but I believe that
they can go down there and win the game.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
Yeah. I just watching, watching, going back and watching Virginia
Tech last year. They were just so minuscule in the
passing game and not really just always Karen Drones and
lack of ability. It was more like just conconceptually scheme yes,
scheme wise, it was so minuscule, was not really attacking

(04:04):
anybody down the field. And I know they had a
whole bunch of what looked like at times walk on
that wide receiver. They were not deep at that position,
and so yeah, it didn't look great at all. So
I think a change of the guarded offensive coordinator was
big time for Virginia Tech. It's always interesting too, because
the first game, when you haven't seen somebody, what will

(04:25):
it be, right, You kind of got to prepare for
a lot of different things. I'm not mad at that pick.
I thought that game would be a very tight game
for South Carolina early. Then I watched the film and
I was so unimpressed with Virginia Tech. I think, yeah, like,
I like South Carolina a lot more after watching last
year's State. But you did remind me, like, Okay, they
did make the Swinton off of the coordinator, so maybe

(04:47):
I wasn't that wrong on my initial thoughts.

Speaker 2 (04:50):
No, no, no, they went from Tyler Bowen who's now is
now the offensive line coach at Ohio State, to Philip Montgomery,
who's the former Auburn OC and the former head coach
in Tulsa. They're gonna open it up. They're going to
open it up a lot more.

Speaker 5 (05:01):
So.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
I don't know, we'll see. I'm just excited to be there.
I am curious though, your thoughts on the first game
you mentioned just because we do have some, you know,
plenty of upstate New York folks that have made their
way down to the South Syracuse fans in the audience.
I give Syracuse a real chance against Tennessee on Saturday.
What do you think?

Speaker 1 (05:20):
Uh? You know, I said that too two weeks ago,
and then I did a deeper dive into Syracuse. I've
been watching nothing with Syracuse film and you guys called
me an sec homework if you want to, But just
look up the stats. S Syracuse was god awful and
stopping the run last year. Kyle, Okay, you know, here
we go. I'll give you one that I'll use on Saturday.

(05:40):
All right, I won't give you all of them, but
I'll give you this one. Syracuse was allowed five point
six yards per run in the first half of games
last year. That puts them ninth worse in the country
and actually the worst, the number one worst team, dead
last in all Power fourteen in the nation as far

(06:02):
as first shot, first half yards allowed per carry and
the reason why the number goes down the second half
because Syracuse played so much up tempo, throwing the ball
all over the ballpark last year with Kyle mccorr that
the offense. The other offenser said, hey, I'm as well
play fast break offense too, so they would run the
ball less. But I'm telling you they didn't stop anybody

(06:24):
last year. And the way that Tennessee goes about their offense,
they think everybody thinks they want to spread you out
to throw it, but they really spread you out to
get the advantage of the numbers count and the box
in the run, and then they run the ball so effectively.
That's the one thing Tennessee has always done well under
Josh Heipel since he got to Tennessee is run the
football for one hundred and something two hundred yards a game.

(06:46):
I think that will be the advantage for Tennessee. And
I know everybody wants to talk about Joey Aguilar because
we love talking about quarterbacks when we don't know anything.
But you know, if he hits one or two deep throws,
that's great, But it's going to be all about the
running back one game with Tennessee. For me, that gets
Tennessee to win.

Speaker 2 (07:02):
Yeah, and listen, I think that's a fair point. I
still don't trust Aguilar on that stage, but we'll have
to wait on either. Yeah, we'll have to wait and
see what happens. That you're right. I mean, I give
Syracuse a chance, but I think it's still more likely
that Tennessee wins the game. Roman Harper hanging out with
us on the hot line. Now, since you've been in
the film, and I've personally witnessed Roman Harper in his
film study, he is diligent. This man has like multiple

(07:23):
iPads going multiple screens. He's all in the film. What
does the film tell you about LSU and Clemson coming
up on Saturday night?

Speaker 1 (07:33):
That that LSU on paper looks really like a great matchup,
But I still think Clemson is the better team in it.
That Clemson. Brian Kelly, those guys, they haven't been able
to win that first game. I don't think this is
the one for them as well. And that doesn't mean
that they are seasons over if you're LSU. But I

(07:55):
just really I just think Clemson's legit and the one
thing the mismatch that I continue to hear. You know,
when I listened to LSU, all the beat writers and
the people that follow that program day in and day out,
they always talk about whether the offense looks great, the
defense is getting the upper hand. You know, the defense
is getting better. You know nus smire this. But then

(08:17):
the one thing that they always say the problem is
the offensive line. Offensive line has to continue to jail old.
Line needs to do this a little bit better. And
that's the one problem that you cannot have when you
play against Tenny Clemson. All right, they got a kid, TJ. Parker,
who's going to be a first one or two round
defensive lineman, but he led the team in tacks last year.

(08:38):
And they also bring back the other very disruptive kids,
Peter Woods, who is you played defensive end, but naturally
defensive tackle. And now because of they got a little
bit more depth, they're more healthy this year, he's going
to go back inside. I think he's way disruptive, a
much more disruptive player than he has productive as far
as the numbers are concerned. But both really talented guys,

(09:01):
and if you can't block them, then you won't beat Clemson.
And that's one thing that I know about Clemson that
they do really well is get after the quarterback. If
I'm LSU, I'm going four wide receivers, I'm taking advantage
of my fourth wide receiver versus any linebacker or fourth
dB that they bring in versus versus you to try
and cover it, because if he was that good, he'd

(09:21):
be your first cornerback. So I go again, Tim one
on one and I'm spitting the ball out fast, which
means I'm throwing it fast. I can't hold onto the ball.

Speaker 2 (09:29):
Exactly How ugly will Alabama and Florida State be? What's
been your prediction this week to everybody in the office
about how bad Alabama beats up on Florida State.

Speaker 1 (09:40):
I'll be honest with you, Kyle. I'm not gonna sit
up here and tell everybody how great Alabama is this year,
even though I do believe in Alabama and I do
think they win this game pretty handedly. What is handedly
I guess two touchdowns. It's on the road. It's to
be a great environment somewhere Alabama's never been before. In dope, Campbell.
I'm really looking forward to it, at least watch on TV.

(10:01):
But Alabama has to They have to treat Florida State,
and I know you can't treat Florida State like just
another team. But Alabama has bigger goals than beating Florida
State and Florida State this year. They must understand that
Alabama did not lose games last year, Kyle because of
lack of talent. They lost games because they didn't know
how to handle adversity. They didn't know how to handle

(10:21):
success as well, and so whenever those two things matter,
you can't go out there and set the world on fire.
First half versus Georgia, then all of a sudden let
them come back, end up winning it. You beat Georgia
and then you lose the Vanderbilt. Then later on this season,
late in the season, when you got the playoffs right
in front of you, you beat LSU at LSU where
everybody says how hard it is to play there, and

(10:43):
then you go on the road and lose to Oklahoma.
You got to learn had the ebbs and flows of
a football season be more mature and handle that. I
expect them to do that in year two of Kaitlin Debor.
I expect Alabama to look good versus Florida State. But
I also know that losing jam Mintler the running back
in a couple a week or so ago does not help them.

(11:05):
So figuring these things out offensively will be really interesting
to see. I can't wait to watch honestly and defensively,
they should be better in year two under Kane Womack
because Neil Kyle. The thing that I loved about being
in a defense more than one year or more than
one season. It's not like I learned the playbook. More
is that I knew what I could get away with.

(11:25):
More like I know I can cheat on this one.
I know teams are trying to attack the year where
the weakness is at. What am I looking for in
each every kind of play and position that I'm playing
because I know the defense just a little bit more,
not the playbook, but actually what I'm trying to get accomplished.

Speaker 2 (11:40):
Roman, What do you let me pivot to the pro
game for a minute here. The big news today, of course,
in Charlotte is that the Panthers dealt Adam Feeling back
home to the Minnesota Vikings and all that. Yeah. Yeah,
And in terms of like the transaction itself, the trade
value chart, all that stuff, Panthers netted a fourth round pick.
I think it's even Vikings fans are you know, Okay,

(12:01):
Carolina won the trade, they had the leverage. That's fine,
But what does it signal to you about their faith
in Bryce the wide receiver room, which is still otherwise
pretty young. They didn't keep Hunter Renfro on the roster,
by the way, so feeling's gone. No Hunter Renfro and
they're going with the young group out there at wide receiver.
What do you think of that?

Speaker 1 (12:21):
I say that means they got a lot more faith
in Cocher than what you initially thought, because Coker is
going to be the guy that has to do with
Adam fieland did I don't. I'm not gonna say I
love it, And it's probably because I actually got to
meet at him a little bit. He was really really
starting to sink into this community, and so anytime you
had to uproot somebody, you know, after being here like

(12:42):
this and being productive as he was with Bryce last year.
Very very interesting trade. But hey, it's the NFL, right,
so it stands for not for long. So I don't
know if I love it yet. And that's only because,
oh my gosh, what's his name? The wide receiver in
South Carolina?

Speaker 4 (13:01):
Kyle?

Speaker 1 (13:02):
It's my name? Yes, yeah, Exaberly, get sorry. I'm in
college football mode so much exavor, you know, XL Man.
You know, he's the one that has to take the
next step because without Adam feeling, who's the lead dog
in the room, who's the lead dog, and so that
that decision has to be made, And we haven't seen

(13:23):
enough from Teloro McMillan facts he say like, okay, he
is the first round top wide receiver that we exactly
what we drafted him for. I just love a veteran
presence in any in any room, Like I don't think
people understand how good it was to have a player
of you know, Jason Levant's caliber when I was here

(13:47):
at Carolina, or Jericho Contre's caliber, where he's not going
to blow you away with so many things with man,
he's just a great veteran presence in a room, and
guys know how to go about their business, how to
go to work every single day. I think that's another
thing that can be heard. And also just hey, man,
they've been in so many situations where they know how

(14:07):
to get out of it when guys are covering them
this way, what's the thing or a technique that you
can do to get yourself open? Like that's how he's
able to stay open and get open the way he does.
It's because he's just played that much ball and It's
something to be said about just knowing the game when
these young guys they don't know the game yet.

Speaker 2 (14:24):
Before I let you go, you and I have shared
the microphone a lot together over the years, and JJ
Jansen and I have recently shared the mic together a lot.
We called a game on Friday night. So lo and behold.
I open up the old Twitter app or whatever it
is X and I see Kart talk with Roman Harper,
and I got listeners telling me you got to ask
Roman about the conversation with JJ. In particular, what's being

(14:46):
picked up on is that Roman Harper said he did
not love the way the coaching staff handled things in
the week leading up to the Super Bowl? Is that
actual true?

Speaker 1 (14:54):
True?

Speaker 2 (14:55):
Why is that?

Speaker 1 (14:57):
Well, because all of a sudden I wasn't playing on
third downs, they made a change, and that would have
not been the case all year long. And while all
of a sudden, in the biggest game, we're going to
try and make a switch out where now Trey Boston's
playing on third downs versus where I've all played every
third down all year long, unless until I got hurt
in the week before. And we're going to do this

(15:18):
right before the Joe Bowl. Not only that, but you
don't even talk to me about it until the Thursday
before the game. And so my biggest reget is actually
playing in that game, because I told him, I'm like, well,
if you guys want to do it that way, then
you guys should let Trey play the whole game. No
disrespect to trade. It actually had nothing to do with trade.
It's just about how you go about your business and
the way you go about it is all of a sudden,

(15:38):
you want to do something in front of the biggest game.
Why are you trying to make a change. Not only that,
but then it makes Kurt Coleman go play strong safety
where he has just had nine interceptions all that free safety.
So you're moving one of the more productive players you've
had in the secondary to a totally different position in
the biggest game of the year. Who does that? Why

(15:59):
would you do that? It doesn't make any sense to me,
I asked him about it. Look at least Steve Wilks
tried to be I'm not gonna stay begging, but he yeah,
pretty much really royally really wanted me to play in
the game. Because I'm like, if y'all are gonna do this,
then I won't play and we lost the game, and
I think it's all the I mean, the coaches didn't
play by. Coaches didn't help us out. I mean, offensively

(16:21):
we didn't play well, and defensively we could have been
had a couple of different plays, but overall we didn't
do We didn't put our best foot for it, and
I didn't like what the coaches did. I staying on
that two fans too. I've staid on those two feet
all day. And I'm not the only one that feels
that way.

Speaker 3 (16:36):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (16:36):
Did you ever talk to Sean McDermott about it after
the Factor?

Speaker 1 (16:38):
No, what's to talk about? I got a Super Bowl?
He doesn't.

Speaker 2 (16:43):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (16:44):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (16:44):
With all due respect, I love Sean, of course.

Speaker 5 (16:46):
No.

Speaker 1 (16:46):
I get it.

Speaker 4 (16:47):
I get it.

Speaker 2 (16:47):
I get it, all right, buddy, listen. I appreciate you
as always, thank you for your time each and every week.
I will see you in Atlanta this weekend.

Speaker 1 (16:53):
All right, my boy.

Speaker 2 (16:54):
By Robin Harper, two time Pro Bowl or Super Bowl champion,
former Alabama Crimson Todd New Orleans Saints and Carolina Panther
safety SEC Network analyst live with SEC Nation this weekend
from Alabama. A doubleheader for them Tennessee, Syracuse Saturday, Virginia Tech,
South Carolina on Sunday. Wow that last part something else. Huh,
your eyes got big around his dinner plates when he

(17:16):
said that.

Speaker 6 (17:16):
It makes sense too, because he was originally signed to
a four year deal, if I'm not mistaken here in Carolina,
and that was year two of the four year deal
and he got cut after that.

Speaker 2 (17:24):
So yeah, wow, we've got some people coming at Roman.
On the text line, somebody called him a casual. Hohoka
for Shack said, this dude's a casual. Yeah yeah, super
Bowl Champion Hall of Honor inductee in New Orleans played
in the second.

Speaker 3 (17:38):
One because he forgot Xavier's am off the top.

Speaker 6 (17:40):
Of it ruins a lot of things we all are,
but casual really, I mean, the guy watched all of
the Xavier snaps and he's just watched god knows how
many college footballs highlight reels and you know film. He's
probably lost in the sauce trying to break down Arkansas
football for all we know.

Speaker 2 (17:55):
Oh dude, he's always that's his thing, Like he's always
because of it's his job. He is always in sec film.
I'm not kidding. We had somebody else a minute ago said, hey,
when's the Bailey and Harper podcast coming back? I don't
know if it will, hopefully at some point down the road.
It's really hard for us to get together and do this.

Speaker 3 (18:11):
We have a county, all right.

Speaker 2 (18:13):
I know, we have full time jobs, a lot of kids.
It's just hard, you know, we both have a lot
of responsibilities. So maybe we'll do it again at some point.
But every time I went over to his place, usually
he was watching film. He had to stop watching film
to do the do the podcast. So what are you
doing over there? What's happening? What's going on?

Speaker 3 (18:33):
All right? So some good news for you and a
lot of viewers listening to the show.

Speaker 6 (18:39):
According to Team YouTube, Fox and YouTube TV have agreed
to a short term extension while they work through a
new agreement. Okay, just coming just hours before it would
have been blacked out, okay, So it would have been
what tonight at midnight?

Speaker 3 (18:53):
I believe around seven to eight o'clock. Yeah, around that time.

Speaker 2 (18:56):
Okay, So Fox and YouTube TV have come to a
temporary agreement. The carriage dispute is off the table for now.
Actually would have been at five o'clock today, five o'clock. Huh, yeah,
I didn't know that was the time. Wow wow, wow wow.
All right, Well, they got it resolved. We'll come back.
We'll take your phone calls. Now's a good time to
get a phone call in if you want to. We'll

(19:17):
catch you up on the news of the day. We'll
tell it's a busy day. We'll talk about everything. Sports
Radio ninety two to seven WFNZ. Sports Radio ninety two

(19:44):
seven wfn Z Big thanks to Roman Harper, who has
mastered the art of the mic drop on this show
and really everything he does. Lit into the twenty fifteen
Panthers coaching staff blames them for the lead up to
the Super Bowl, and I guess the loss in that
game as well. We talked a ton of SCC. He's
going to be in Atlanta on Saturday and Sunday for
both big games. What are you telling me over there?

Speaker 5 (20:05):
Tell?

Speaker 2 (20:05):
Oh, yeah, tickets to give away? Sorry, real quick text
app app to the FanDuel text line if you want
to win a pair of tickets to app State and
Charlotte on Friday in the Duke's Mayo Classic. I had
to get that in because you have sixty seconds to
text that in if you want to get in to
win those tickets five thirty, the registration will close. So
it smokes right, text app app to the FanDuel text line,

(20:27):
write me out, don't cause a wreck. Okay, don't don't
do it when you're going eighty miles an hour down
seventy seven or eighty five. But text the word app
app right now to get in to win five thirty
at bad Boy shuts off. So before I take some
phone calls here, I had a Texter Peterbilt panther a
minute ago. He kind of I wasn't sure what he meant.
He said, what happened to the quote give them forty

(20:48):
eight hours for renfro KB And I asked him, I said,
what do you mean. I never guaranteed anything. I just said,
wait and see what happens. Dave also said they're still
communicating with on a renfro, to which he responded, I'm
just saying it hasn't in forty eight hours. There's time.
Let's actually start with that one real quick, just to
clear that up. Dave Canalis met with the media earlier today,
just a little while ago. As a matter of fact,

(21:09):
I want to say within the last I don't know
our yeah, our hour, Yeah, about an hour ago, and
was asked, what's the deal with Hunter andfro.

Speaker 3 (21:18):
We've been in.

Speaker 7 (21:19):
Constant communication with Hunters since yesterday. He's talking to his family,
he's talking to his agent, you know, and we're all
just kind of have we have a couple of things
on the table for him, and we're just gonna keep
taking kind of one day at a time and see
where he's at, you know. And I just felt like,
you know, towards the end, like the last stretch of
what I saw, I want to be able to count
on Hunter to be as good as he was the

(21:41):
whole time, and I just saw I just saw some
peaks and then I just saw some dips also in
terms of his performance, and I just felt like, in
fairness to the whole group, in fairness to the team,
I wanted to make sure that he knew I want
to be a part of your future. I don't think
right now is the time initially for this team, and
so we he just kind of said, you know, I
have to think about what I want to do. And

(22:03):
so we're we're in communication right now. We're going to
kind of take it day by day and see where
we're at.

Speaker 2 (22:07):
All, right, that that part he's got. They got multiple
things on the table, got multiple things on the table
for Hunter. Well, what could it be beyond practice squad
at this point? I mean, you're not putting him on
the roster. No, Because if one of those things was, hey,
do you want a spot on the roster, I'm sure
he'd say yes, I'd love a spot on the roster.

(22:28):
So that can't be it. Is it practice squad and
or what? Just stay in shape and we'll probably give
you a call around week three. Because you can't can't
read the future. So I'm just curious what that means.
I think everybody else is too ketchup sucks on the
text line is I can't say what he sent In NASCAR,

(22:49):
Mike says, sounds like he wanted to be released. I
don't know about that. I don't think that was the case,
because Hunter renfro is communicated pretty clearly he wants to
play in carol close to home. He instructed his agent
to call Carolina specifically to come out of retirement from
Myrtle Beach. Still lives there and wanted to play for

(23:12):
the home state team. You know, well, you know what
I mean two states, one team all that. So unless
he's willing to go to Atlanta or Jacksonville or maybe
even DC, I don't know, Like what else could it be.
Does is he unwilling to go to the practice squad?
HJ just said, sounds like they want him on the
practice squad and he's looking to make some team's roster.

(23:33):
That's what I wonder too, Like was it simply hey,
I want to play here and nowhere else or did
he get into camp and feel like, oh, I can
still play. Maybe it doesn't have to be only Carolina.
If they're unwilling to keep me, maybe he is willing
now to go play somewhere else. Maybe the fire has
been re lit.

Speaker 3 (23:52):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (23:53):
A lot of folks have strong thoughts on this now. Also,
real quick before I take some phone calls. If you're
just tuning in, it's bad news. I might have gotten
really sad about it in the beginning and it could
turn out okay. But Ikiakwanu has suffered. Well that's that's
that's about what appendicitis. He had his appendix removed and
appened dec to me on Sunday night. That is the

(24:14):
two week point right, two weeks from this past Sunday
to September seventh against Jacksonville to the day. Here's Dave
Canalis letting us know what's going on with with Ikiakuanu.

Speaker 7 (24:27):
Yes, so Ikey Ikey had appendectomy.

Speaker 3 (24:31):
So he he had appendicidus.

Speaker 7 (24:33):
He wasn't feeling good and then ultimately went to the
hospital and they said, all right, well we gotta we
gotta do surgery here. We have to remove this, and
so he had his appendix removed. He's day to day.
We've seen these things turn around and a little over
a week. They can be longer, you know, just depends
on each individual body, how you respond to the surgery,

(24:55):
how your body heals the right way. So he's going
to be day to day, you know, all the way
up until the game. So that's something that we have
to keep our eye on as we go. That was
Sunday night, so he started to feel sick a little
bit before that and then finally Sunday night he went
in and then was diagnosed with you know, appendicitis and
and so they removed his appendix.

Speaker 2 (25:18):
All right, We've had a lot of people text in,
call in, We've had a few doctors people, well, people
claiming to be doctors. I can't verify any of it.
They did stay at the holiday in life, they did,
and I actually we have one on the line, so
I feel like I should go there real quick. PSL.
Sucker is in fact a medical professional, a surgeon. I believe.
I'll let him correct me if I'm wrong about that. PSL.

(25:39):
Sucker's back on the phone lines. Can you offer some
clarity on this, sir.

Speaker 8 (25:43):
I mean, I'm not a general surgeon.

Speaker 5 (25:45):
I amas surgeon. Bottom line is it's you know, like
all dog here and give me a doctor answer.

Speaker 3 (25:49):
It depends.

Speaker 5 (25:50):
I mean, it depends the degree of inflammation around the appendix.
I'm assuming that it was done labroscopically, that it's very
rarely done open anymore. Be on his you know, either
have paradoniis usually before you do them open. So I
would what I would say is, if this were a
playoff situation, I would expect him back in two weeks.

(26:12):
But I think, you know, given that it's the beginning
of the year, they're probably gonna be cautious with him.
It's conceivably from back in two weeks, but I think
it's more likely he'll be back for the home opener.

Speaker 2 (26:22):
So you think win two is more likely or three.

Speaker 3 (26:24):
I'm sorry, we're likely, but but the week one is
certainly not out of the question.

Speaker 5 (26:28):
You know, it really does depend on how inflamed the
tissue around the appendix was. I would say that's probably the.

Speaker 1 (26:37):
Number one thing.

Speaker 2 (26:38):
Okay, all right now, I don't know if that's why
you called in or not. Do you have anything else
for me?

Speaker 1 (26:41):
No, No, it isn't what I know.

Speaker 4 (26:42):
I called him to complain.

Speaker 9 (26:45):
I'm really really, really disappointed.

Speaker 5 (26:48):
In this trade. It seems to me that's clear indication
that they're not going anywhere this season, nor do they
have any intention of trying to go anywhere this season.
And you know what I'm getting, really, the one unreported
part about this trade is that the Vikings picked up
the seven million dollars that Feeling's owed. Okay, and you

(27:11):
know they cut Clowney to save money to sign a
free agent defensive you know, safety they didn't. They're dumping
the seven million dollars that they owe Feeling them. The
whole idea of bringing in a rookie quarterback is so
that you could surround him with high priced talent other
than the guards.

Speaker 4 (27:31):
They're not doing that.

Speaker 5 (27:33):
So what I me know, is it because they I mean,
is because they're so insular that they overrate their own
their own.

Speaker 1 (27:42):
Judgment, or is it needed?

Speaker 3 (27:44):
The temper is cheap, he's.

Speaker 8 (27:45):
Trying to recruit, the money's lost on coaches.

Speaker 5 (27:47):
I don't know, but but I mean, I will say,
you know, you made a great point earlier event nobody's
been picked up who got cut and that shows you
how poor the Panthers talent about has been. You know,
Morgan was an integral part of that in the last
few years. And I think that this is another example
of it.

Speaker 2 (28:08):
My only and I appreciate the phone call, buddy, thank
you for your expertise and for your take. My only
thing that what I'd push back there is I value
Adam theeln I also haven't. I've tried not to go
over the top in believing that they just cannot live
life without him. Okay, he's provided great veteran leadership, and
he has played very well at times, but he is

(28:28):
thirty five in a vicious collision sport that choose guys
up and spits them out, and he dealt with hamstring
injuries last year. There is no guarantee Adam Thielen stays
healthy on the field this year. I mean, there's just
no guarantee, which is why that conditional seventh could go
to a conditional sixth. That's right, because if he doesn't
play ten games this year from Minnesota, that seventh turns

(28:50):
into a sixth round pick from Carolina. It's a good point.
So they're they're clearly a bit concerned about that too.
They're desperate for wide receiver help. Dan got a fourth
out of a guy who's probably not going to be
playing the year from out, so I can more than
live with the compensation that they got for the trade.
You gotta let the young guys run if you believe
in Jalen Coker, and I think there's reason too. He's
gonna take those snaps that Adam Thelen was gonna get.

(29:12):
All right, bryceon Tremaine has showed out the entire camp.
That guy really turned heads during camp. They believe he
can be a playmaker, you know, Adam Thielen did it
was clearly happy to go back to Minnesota, where he's from.
I think he would have been happy here. But I
just don't think we should pretend like Carolina can't live
life without feeling that seems way too doomsday for me.
Back to the phone lines, Ryan is up next, Ryan,

(29:33):
what's going on?

Speaker 4 (29:35):
Hey, hey, gyle, I'm have two points. That's two points.
I was gonna stay real quick. You actually you actually do,
We're actually on the same phase. I do understand the
season move.

Speaker 3 (29:45):
I'm I'm not.

Speaker 4 (29:46):
I'm not super excited about it because I thought he
we would at least keep him for one more year
than did this receiving corps. They do have a lot
of promise and and they do have to prove themselves.
But I see, I see what they're doing. But I thought,
you know, I thought the Betel leadership for one more
year is definitely was definitely what we what we needed.
And I am excited to have football seasons here, Like

(30:07):
October is the best sportsman by the time October because
for us Panther fans, we're already down the dusk because
we sink so hopefully so right now we're zero and zero,
and this promise right now is going to new season.
I'm gona leave you with this point and I'll take
your in response off airside of Panther point. But it
is football with all the controversy you know, with Aaron
Rodgers and Justin Fields all stuff for them to meet
Week one and Rogers returns to the Jets. If Justin

(30:30):
Fields was to knock off Aaron Rodgers and his home
coming to the Jets, do you think that's a big
story Monday morning or do you think that's one nobody
is gonna really care about.

Speaker 3 (30:39):
I wanted to get your visions.

Speaker 2 (30:40):
If Aaron Rodgers beats the Jets.

Speaker 3 (30:41):
You said no, no, if Justin Fields beat there, justin.

Speaker 2 (30:45):
Okay, I'm sorry, Justin Fields beats Aaron Rodgers. I appreciate
the phone call. I mean, I've heard some pundits predicting
that this is the Justin Fields is about to have
a Gino Smith type of year that he's We're gonna
watch his career resurgence happen in New York this year
on La Gino in Seattle. I don't know, I mean
a big deal if he wins that game. Yeah, absolutely absolutely.

Speaker 6 (31:03):
It feels like everyone just tries to make they want
to see Justin Fields have that pop two years ago
when the Bears, you know, last year starting quarter back
for the Bears.

Speaker 3 (31:13):
It's like, oh, this is gonna be the year it's
gonna be heear.

Speaker 6 (31:14):
I remember, oh gosh, Mike Greenberg said that he could
be an MVP sleeper candidate. It's just like every single
time that he gets a chance, they trying to make
a pop. They trying to make a pop. Last year
in Pittsburgh got benched for an aging Russell Wilson. I
just I got to see it to believe it, and
we haven't seen it in nearly four or five years.

Speaker 2 (31:33):
Sure, so let me get to this real quick. So
Aaron from Charlotte, he says, and I want to know
if people agree with that. It's okay. I promise you
I have thick skin. He says. KB. I'm sorry, but
I don't think you're acting like someone that realizes that
these are the same types of moves the Panthers have
tried in the past and keep end up biting us
in the butt. These aren't winning moves. I get. But

(31:55):
my here's what I'll say one thing to that if
Jalen Cocher as a big year getting the reps that
Adam Feelin would have gotten, which is more than possible
had a great camp. I saw a ton of him
in person, looks the part, He's healthy, he's ready to go.
If that kid has a big year, what have the
Panthers lost out on? I'll give it to you and listen.

(32:16):
You can feel that way if you want to. It's okay.
Maybe I'm wrong. It won't be the first time that
I get something wrong. But when you say I'm acting
like someone that doesn't realize these are the types of
moves that the Panthers have tried in the past but
keep end up biting them a butt. These aren't winning moves.
You gotta let the young guys play. And if Cocher
has a big year, what have they lost? This isn't
like the moods they've made in the past. The moons
they've made in the past have been too reactionary or

(32:39):
just too gung ho feeling. Got hurt in Week four?
Last week in Las Vegas? When did we are Week three?

Speaker 4 (32:43):
Sorry?

Speaker 2 (32:43):
When did we see him again?

Speaker 6 (32:44):
We didn't see him until the trade deadline. Yeah, I
was gonna say right around the time he's thirty five injuries.
I guarantee you he gets hurt this year. I don't
know how badly, but it's football. Dude, can hurt, get hurt.

Speaker 2 (32:55):
But yeah, it's just a matter of the fact that
he was probably gonna miss some games anyway.

Speaker 3 (32:58):
Yeah, and they've been more prudent this time around.

Speaker 6 (33:01):
I don't know if these deals are going to work,
but at least I feel like they've been more prudent
and been more diligent, deliberate.

Speaker 2 (33:08):
Deliberate, thank you very much. I'm not going to pretend
like I didn't want to keep at him around. I
like him, and I would have been completely happy with
him in the wide receiver room, but I'm not going
to act like it's the end. I'm far more despondent
about Ikey's appendectomy than I am about losing a feeling
Right now, I think they can survive without Adam feeling.
I worry about the starting left tackle a hell of
a lot more. All right, let's go to smoke on
the headlines.

Speaker 6 (33:35):
As you mentioned earlier, Geo Lopez officially announced as the
starter forty North Carolina tar Heels as they will take
on TCU on Monday.

Speaker 3 (33:45):
Do want to also given update two? That's what I
said earlier.

Speaker 6 (33:48):
Fox Sports will be on YouTube TV at least for
the time being as they tried to get their TV
contract figured out, and just in case you're tuning in.
They are still trying to do that. So for the
time being, at least you'll have Fox or on your
TV at home. Kyle, there you go, all right, And
of course, the biggest news of the day for you,
Carolina Panthers traded out of a plumber.

Speaker 3 (34:08):
For a hooker. Hendon Hooker is now with the Carolina Panthers.

Speaker 6 (34:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (34:11):
We haven't talked about that as much today as I
thought we might. But I don't really know what else
there is to say. Like he's the third quarterback, he's
gonna run with the practice squad. I still think he's
got potential. I've always loved his work ethic, He's a gamer.
I've always thought he would adapt. But he was not
good in Detroit with Ben Johnson and that worries me.
So maybe he ends up being nothing more than a
practice squad quarterback.

Speaker 6 (34:31):
I just let people know this man tweeted me that
info and then tweeted an emoji out of me.

Speaker 9 (34:36):
Kyle.

Speaker 3 (34:36):
You never it's rare enough that you tweet at me.

Speaker 6 (34:39):
The fact that you're text at me, the fact that
you texted an emoji you, of all people, Yeah, just
shows you how excited you were.

Speaker 2 (34:45):
For this. I like the kid. I'm a big fan.
All Right, we'll come back. We'll wrap up the show.
Sports Radio ninety two to seven wfn Z. The sufficiness

(35:09):
still on the fan duel text line, got a few
dissenters who are letting me know about it. Colossal Beef
just told me KB. All you keep saying is if
it seems like you haven't noticed that these ifs never
work out here, you just finished providing proof as to
how bad this franchise drafts. At some point you would
agree that this is an entertainment business and the Panthers

(35:30):
have to get off the mat and try to win games.
In present day, the fans are sick of waiting for
picks to develop over the past decade, and much of
that I agree with. I do, and I did provide
the proof that they haven't been drafting well lately. But
there's reason to believe they're drafting better now. And this
is the big part for me. Everything is an if
going into this season. Everything if Bryce Young continues the

(35:50):
way he played last year. If the offensive line plays
like it did last year, If Dave Canalis decides to
run the football, if Excel takes a step forward, same
for Jalen Cocher. If the defense can get from dead
last to middle of the pack, and everything about this
season is an if. And if your season hinges on
a thirty five year old wide receiver who missed a
third of the games last year with a hamstring injury already,

(36:13):
then you probably weren't very good to begin with. That's
the only point I'm making. I wanted to keep him.
I also don't think it's the end of the world
that he's gone. That's it. We'll come back and talk
about it more tomorrow. Right now, we catch you up
on what you've missed. It's time for the rewind. By
the way, nobody else but Minnesota was giving them a
fourth round pick for Adam Feeling. Somebody else told me.

(36:35):
Obviously the rest of the league values him. No, Minnesota
values him. They're desperate for wide receivers and it's a
great coming home story and the fans are going to
get excited about it. Nobody valued Adam Feeling across the
rest of the NFL like Minnesota did. That's just a fact.
Right earlier in the show, Doug Gillen ad app state
on try to keep playing against Charlotte the forty nine

(36:56):
Ers in the future after the Duke's Mayo classic.

Speaker 8 (36:58):
Oh yeah, I think it's great potential.

Speaker 9 (37:00):
You know, Mike and I are really close friends, have
a lot of respect for him and with the job
he's done it and done at Charlotte. You know, we're
you know, we played a bunch over the years. We
got a bunch more scheduled over the next couple of years.

Speaker 3 (37:12):
So this is, you know, a matchup we look.

Speaker 9 (37:14):
Forward to every year. Both of our fan bases look
forward to it. I think it's only growing. And you know,
when we talk about economic impact and how can our
universities really affect the economy of our state, is schools
like Charlotte Lake app and other schools in our state
playing each other and keeping you know, commerce in the state.
So I think it's good for everybody and certainly good
for the city of Charlotte this weekend.

Speaker 2 (37:35):
Oh and by the way, Bryce Young started to turn
things around last year with Adam feeling off the field.
All right, that's it, I'm done now. Later in the show,
Mike Hill, Charlotte forty nine Ers athletic director, on what
stood out from working alongside new head coach Tim Albin
thus far.

Speaker 3 (37:49):
You don't want to.

Speaker 8 (37:50):
Gush too much, it doesn't sound real, but he's been
a dream to work with. He's an absolute pro and
somebody who you can tell like he's got every part
of his operation under control. He's been there, done it.

Speaker 1 (38:04):
You know, he's had.

Speaker 8 (38:04):
Success at this level, at the FBF level. You know
he's repeated that success. He's done it in the transfer
portal era. He's won a national championship at the NAI
level as a head coach. You know, he's just he's
he's the real deal, you know, and just a He's
a great human too. I mean, just just a fantastic,
authentic person who has really connected well, I think with

(38:27):
our fan base.

Speaker 4 (38:28):
I think he's a fantastic.

Speaker 8 (38:29):
Fit for our university and for our program. And so
I listen, we are overjoyed. We were overjoyed in December
when he committed to come here, and that enthusiasm has
only grown based on what we've.

Speaker 3 (38:43):
Seen so far.

Speaker 2 (38:44):
Later on the show, Roman Harper, two time pro bowler,
super Bowl champion, SEC Network and list with his thoughts
on the Adam Thielen trade.

Speaker 1 (38:51):
I just love a veteran presence in any in any room, like,
I don't think people understand how good it was have
a player of you know, Jason Levant's caliber when I
was here at Carolina, or Jericho Contre's caliber, where he's
not going to blow you away with so many things. Man,

(39:12):
he's just a great veteran presence in a room and
guys know how to go about their business, how to
go to work every single day. I think that's another
thing that can be heard. And also just hey, man,
they've been in so many situations where they know how
to get out of it. When guys are covering him
this way, what's the thing or a technique that you
can do to like get yourself open. Like that's how

(39:34):
he's able to stay open and get open the way
he does. It's because he's just played that much ball.
And it's something to be said about just knowing the
game when these young guys they don't know the game yet.

Speaker 2 (39:44):
That's the rewind to look back into the show each

Speaker 6 (40:04):
Smoke what you got to my captain, Adam feeling good
way to get for two years and happy for you
to go home, But I don't really care about you now.

Speaker 2 (40:14):
That's how everybody should feel, right, not getting all weepy
others going home with such a big good good luck man.
I hope the Panthers, you know. I hope the Panthers
get the playoff spot that you want. All right, I'll
tip my cap to the listeners. Great stuff on the
text line today, even the people who vehemently disagree about
Adam Thiel and I appreciate you texting into the show.
We'll argue about stuff tomorrow. Looking forward to it until then.
