Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the Kyle Bailey Show, powered by Victory Chevy Charlotte,
where every month is truck Month. Victory Chevy Charlotte your
Silverado Destination.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
Well, the Panthers went down to Jacksonville yesterday and looked
flat out awful. They lost to a first time rookie
head coach with a staff working together for the very
first time in the NFL, and they ran circles around
the Panthers' staff and that was embarrassing. Defensively, well, you
can forget about it. Over two hundred yards rushing allowed
again for the Carolina Panthers defense. That is seven straight

(00:45):
games of getting gashed on the ground, the ninth time
already under Dave Canalis, and yesterday was his eighteenth game
as head coach. Meaning fifty percent of the time they've
given up two hundred yards rushing or more. And the kicker,
Mike Kay of the Charlotte Observer is Yuro of Verro's
defenses have now given up one hundred and twenty yards
or more rushing in twenty six of his thirty five

(01:09):
games as the defensive coordinator. That's not a blip on
the radar, that's not an outlier. That's become their identity.
Bryce Young multiple turnovers, fumbled when he should have slid,
and on fourth down near the end zone, throws the
football away. Just can't do it. Xavier League get looking
more like Xavier Regret. Year two wide out doesn't get

(01:30):
his feet down on a routine play and then, to
compound it and make matters worse, doesn't block on a
short yardage play that could have picked up a critical
first down. And Mark Schlereth lit him up on the
Fox broadcast yesterday asking what are you on the field for,
And it's a more than fair question. I'm officially out.
I think I've got a pretty steady solid reputation at

(01:51):
this point of not being incredibly overreactionary, trying to keep
a calm head about things. Xavier Regret, I'm out on
him until he decides to prove otherwise because that was embarrassing.
It's one thing to make a mistake, and we've seen
plenty of those, but to compound it by not caring
enough to throw a block on a run play when
it's coming to your side of the formation. Bro, I'm out.
You can go sit your ass down. Jala Cocher can't

(02:12):
get back on the field fast enough. And then there's
Dave Canalis said yesterday after the game, he's got to
look at himself and his staff to figure out why
they weren't ready, why they were unprepared, why they were unorganized. Well, translation,
you got out coached by a group working their very
first game together. It's only week one. We all know that.
But the clock's already ticking now on Dave Canalis and

(02:34):
Bryce Young. In the Tepper era, this team is thirty
six and eighty one. It's almost unlike we use the
word unbelievable a lot in sports, that's nearly unbelievable. Thirty
six and eighty one is the Carolina Panthers record. In
the David Tepper era, they would need to win forty
five straight games to get back to five hundred. In

(02:55):
the David Tepper era, forty five straight. They lose the
same way over and over. They looked unprepared, they looked
out coached. Yesterday, players didn't execute. But it all comes
back to culture and leadership, and at least Dave Canalis
had had the guts to admit that yesterday. It's on
them and unless something changes quickly, Panthers fans are in

(03:16):
for another miserable season. Now, I say all that to say,
AJ and Charlotte told me KB a little bit of
optimism would be nice. We're not the worst in the world.
Maybe close to it, but we're not the worst.

Speaker 3 (03:28):
Well.

Speaker 4 (03:29):
J C.

Speaker 2 (03:29):
Horn offered a little bit of optimism after the game yesterday,
saying that they were frustrated too, but it's just one game,
do you like, whatever issues you can identify, are those
things that could be addressed in a.

Speaker 1 (03:40):
Week or two.

Speaker 5 (03:41):
Yeah, yess we win.

Speaker 6 (03:44):
You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 5 (03:45):
I know what it feel like, just because it's been
through the past couple of years.

Speaker 2 (03:49):
It's like the end of the world.

Speaker 5 (03:50):
But it's week win and it's just a lot of
team that's on win. We can't win Super War or
lose a Super Bowl, and we went so we just
got to rally and get back to the drum board,
you know, go ahead of Venison Arizona.

Speaker 2 (04:02):
He's not wrong about that. I mean, there are some
fan bases today that are in bad shape. Down in Miami.
They're already calling it quits on Mike McDaniels. I saw
our buddy Zach and Miami earlier telling me that it
is just armageddon down in Miami today with the Dolphins.
They were blown out by Daniel Jones and the Colts
thirty three to eight. In New England, they're freaking out

(04:23):
second year quarterback Drake May. They muster thirteen points at
home against Pete Carroll's Las Vegas Raiders. They're having a
really bad time, a really bad time. Giants scored six points.
At least they have some hope with Jackson Dart, but
that's about it. Broncos and Titans wasn't exactly a pleasant
game to watch. The Lions looked like garbage yesterday, and

(04:46):
of course the Houston Texans Houston Texans nine points yesterday
in a fourteen to nine loss to the Rams, and CJ.
Stroud did not exactly have a great day either, So
again we know these things to be true Week one.
Around the NFL. There are some very dissatisfied or irate
NFL fan bases, and the Panthers are once again among them.

(05:06):
And misery does love company, but that does not make
Panthers fans feel any better about thirty six and eighty one,
seven straight years with no playoffs and seemingly looking soft,
lost and direction lists again to start the season. Your
thoughts were wide open here in the five o'clock hour
seven oh four, five, seven oh ninety six to ten,
hit us up on the fan duel text line. Laser

(05:28):
prints are pointing out bad snaps galore. It's why I'm
not and I'm not inclined, even though some people want
me to. Today. I'm getting closer by the way with
the turnovers, but I'm not crushing Bryce Young today because
Bryce Young he made to me a lot of good
plays yesterday, but he erased all of it with the turnovers.
But there were also other plays that were screwed up.

(05:48):
Because I don't know what happened with Austin Corbet. I
don't know if he got body snatched yesterday, if one
of his contacts got ripped, like, I don't know what
was going on, but he had a twenty seven passer
grade or pass protection grad yesterday and at least what
four or five errant early snaps that threw off the
timing and rhythm of individual plays Like that stuff matters, guys.
Just because Bryce caught the snap high or low doesn't

(06:10):
mean that the play isn't screwed up at that point.
Because everything they do in the NFL is tied to
the quarterbacks footwork. I mean, if it's a three step,
a five step, a seven step drop, the timing of
these routes are tied to the footwork. And so when
you're getting thrown off right from the jump because of
a bad snap that's hitting the quarterback in the face
or as eight inches above his head or snap back
at his shins, it is going to screw things up offensively.

(06:32):
Bryce made some great throws yesterday, but I am sick
and tired of that guy panicking and pinging down his
leg and coughing up the football. That crap has to
stop or he will not sign a second contract with
the Carolina Panthers, nor should he.

Speaker 7 (06:44):
Yeah, absolutely into you know, we did one turnover didn't
even count Kyle because luckily for him, that turnover that
was a pick six on that fourth down play with
about five minutes left to go in the game was
negated due to a holding ability and that resulted in
the only touchdown in the game for Carolina. Afterwards, it
just when he had a lot of really good froze.
He had a lot of like all right, I see
it there aha moments. Unfortunately some of them were not

(07:06):
taken advantage of by Xavier league Get and by j T.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
Sanders.

Speaker 7 (07:10):
But he also had some dumbfounding plays like the interception
the first one. I honestly think that interception really messed
up his phykey because not only that it was a
bad play. Should have just ran it for one yard,
probably wouldn't be talking nearly as much about him. I
think if it didn't happen, what happened after that interception,
they scored touchdown and then you got to soak in
it and think about it for an hour nineteen minutes

(07:31):
because of the weather delay. That was the last passing
through before the weather delay. Was that stupid interception that
led to the first touchdown of the game. I think
that really really tells the tale of Bryce Young's day.
He had a lot of good froze, but he also
had a lot of some just dumbfoundingly bad plays that
we haven't even seen, like I don't even think Rookie

(07:51):
Brice had some dumbfounding interceptions like that.

Speaker 8 (07:53):
No.

Speaker 2 (07:53):
Now, he threw the ball yesterday a lot better overall
than he did a year ago in the opener, and
that doesn't have to make anybody feel better, nor should it.
He did. But if Xavier leagu Get makes a routine
play toe tap sets him up inside the twenty five
yard line, he's not scrambling and rushing and panicking to
try to pick up a first down on his legs
because other guys aren't making plays. Pardon me, Hunter Renfro
dropped the ball. He's got to catch it. I don't

(08:14):
care what you say about the hit. He's worked the
slot his entire life. That's the job in the slot.
You work the slot, you take hits, you hang on
to the ball. I ain't mad at him, but he's
expected to make the catch.

Speaker 7 (08:23):
Even that wheel route, even though fills underfrone and yeah,
there might have maybe been some DPI underthrown.

Speaker 2 (08:29):
Yeah, but he's still got to come down with that.
It would threw his hands. Yeah, I mean it was
not a great throw, but yeah, sure, j T Sanders
ball hit him in the hands on the sideline. Bro,
you get paid to make that catch. I don't care
if it's tough. That's why you're in the National Football League.
It's why you're there. The Austin Corbett illegal man downfield penalty,
it was tiki tak. I don't like the fact that
that's the rule. Mark Schalaira said the same thing on

(08:50):
the broadcast, But it is what it is. You got
to be aware. And Corbett, the veterans just drifting down
the field on a known pass play. Can't do that right.
These are all plays that were taken away from Bryce
that would have made his numbers look a hell of
a lot better. And then unfourth and one, Well, just
let me take some phone calls, all right, let me
let me get off my soapbox and take some phone calls.
Miguel has been waiting patiently. Miguel, I appreciate you holding brother.

(09:12):
What's on your mind?

Speaker 9 (09:14):
A kab love your show. The Panthers went down to
Jacksonville and got smacked around and called Susan. I feel
like Dave Canalis is a guidance counselor with a clipboard.

Speaker 1 (09:29):
You know, and h Bryce.

Speaker 9 (09:32):
You know, when he gets.

Speaker 1 (09:32):
On the.

Speaker 10 (09:34):
Podium, he sounds like a high school.

Speaker 9 (09:37):
Kid, and he doesn't sound like he can commands an offense.
And and Dave Canalis doesn't sound like he can lead
a team.

Speaker 6 (09:45):
You know, we need a leader.

Speaker 9 (09:46):
We need somebody's fears aggressive. We need a Steve Rogers,
not a mister Rogers and if they really get he
needs to put down them uh raccoon Bergers and pick
up a football ida on their practice steel and get
more time out there with Bryce or something, because I
don't care about his endorsement, the deals or his thing.

Speaker 2 (10:12):
Yeah, I love it, Thank you, Miguel, appreciate the phone call.
They looked like crap. They just did. They looked like crap.
There's no other way to put it. TFB says, what
was with them not breaking the huddle until ten seconds
left on the game clock or play clock until then
you saw Dave talking to him reading the play sheet,
not getting the snap off until under two seconds left. Well,
your head coach is your play caller.

Speaker 1 (10:33):
You know.

Speaker 2 (10:33):
I'm imagining that's playing a factor of some kind. But
either way, the problem is you're running the play clock
down to under three seconds every single time. You're getting
the defense, giving them a chance to get set and
examine your formation to try to figure out what you're doing.
They went no hurry. By my recall, at the end
of the first half, inside of I think sixty seconds
to play at the end of the first half. That

(10:54):
was the Bryce fumble. I'm not mistaken and then again
not until the fourth quarter, about eight minutes left. Second
last tri Let's get up tempo a little bit. Boys,
Why are predictable? Every single play, play's not getting in.
You're running it down to two seconds one second defense
is allowed to get ste How about we speed things
up a little bit, mix things up just a little bit.
Or is it you can't do that because your defense

(11:14):
sucks and you know it. I don't know. I mean this.
They got sixteen weeks to figure this stuff out, or
you know, the acts is going to start to fall
on some of these guys. Soprano Bob is up next.
What's up, Bob? How are you.

Speaker 1 (11:26):
Well?

Speaker 3 (11:26):
Kyle?

Speaker 10 (11:26):
You know I'm rolling in it today.

Speaker 2 (11:29):
After last night, Buddy, I went to bed and I
woke up at four am to see what happened. Congratulations
on the win.

Speaker 11 (11:36):
Well, let me just give you one little better. I
was in bed watching the end of the game, dozed off,
woke up at three checked the score. Could not believe it.
I shook my wife and I said, Laurie, the Bills won.
She said straight up in bed and said.

Speaker 10 (11:55):
Turn the TV on.

Speaker 11 (11:56):
We got to watch the highlights.

Speaker 8 (11:58):
Unbelievable.

Speaker 11 (11:59):
How about how about my boy throwing for two hundred
and fifty two yards in the fourth quarter.

Speaker 2 (12:05):
Josh Allen is incredible. Now, I gotta be honest, though, Bob,
you're not making anybody around here feel any better with
all this Bill's recap. We got to know that well listen,
and I.

Speaker 10 (12:13):
Wasn't gonna I wasn't gonna jump all over the build.

Speaker 6 (12:16):
You know, I know.

Speaker 10 (12:17):
I will just tell you this.

Speaker 11 (12:18):
I know I hear it in your voice. There's room
on the Bills Van Wagon. No, come on, no, no,
I know, no, listen, you know I.

Speaker 6 (12:27):
Love the show.

Speaker 11 (12:29):
The one thing I do want to say, though, is
that's the game we needed to win. Now, maybe we
can get rolling.

Speaker 10 (12:36):
I'm not sure, but we'll see.

Speaker 11 (12:38):
I know we're you know, we're you know we're coming
to Charlotte.

Speaker 2 (12:42):
Oh, I know, I believe me. It's I think it's
the hottest ticket in town, or at least it was
on the radio every season. Rader, Yeah, yeah, okay, all right,
go Bill, Thank you, Bob. Appreciate the phone call. We
got pissed off Panthers fans. Get him off the airwaves.
Are y'all serious? Bill's Bill's talk. It's a phone call. Man,

(13:03):
Bob likes the show. Bob called the show like it
is what it is. I bet Carolina Jay wants to
talk about the Panthers. Jay, what's going on?

Speaker 7 (13:10):
Brother?

Speaker 1 (13:11):
I mean, you know, I definitely want to talk about
the Panthers. I definitely don't want to hear nothing about
no bills. Once the brides maide always a brides made
anybody to worry about no bills. I'm gonna run it
off real quick for you, man, because you know, we
got a lot on our minds as Panther fans. First
of all, I think Dave Canals need to do what
we need to reach out to rum Rivera the same
way rum Rivera reached out to John Madden. I feel

(13:32):
like Dereck Brown, we need we need to trade him
right away, get what we can. For them to pass
for us is non existent. We saw it for what
it was. We saw him in the first game, all right,
beat by the first time Ricky head coach is so unacceptable,
and I believe guys it's the Panther curse. Let's just
be honest. The way Tepa dig Cam Newton, there is

(13:56):
no commercial of Cam Newton on any radio show, no
mention of Cam Newton. Whatever, I'm gonna leave that alone.
The Bryce interception, guys, the first interception I rewounded. I
looked at it. Safety made a great play. If they
were basically double team and Renfro came off of Renfro,
There's no way Bryce could have thought that that. That

(14:18):
was just a great play. Now with Bryce, guys, and
I will say as well, I can no longer protect them. Hey,
we gotta do what we gotta do. And last thing
I'm gonna say, guys, is we have a musty smell
on us.

Speaker 6 (14:31):
That we can't get off.

Speaker 1 (14:32):
And your boy Walker and Mayo they said about two
weeks ago they called the Panthers the p Pats, and
that's our name, guys. I paid the rest off the ear.

Speaker 2 (14:42):
Thank you, Jane, appreciate the phone call. I mean, listen,
everything's on the table today. And what I simply mean
by that is they look the same in the opener
and there are great, you know articles written today. Joe
Person says it, you know, in his particular piece over
at the Athletic like it's just it feels the same
and people were looking for better last year. I'll go

(15:03):
with Bryce for a second. To end the year. Final
three games, Bryce and the team go two and one.
Bryce has ten touchdowns to zero interceptions in the last
three games. You were thinking they could build on that.
They didn't build on that yesterday. Maybe they build on
that in week two. Smoke has predicted a win at
Arizona this week, by the way, he is predicted a

(15:23):
win at Arizona. And we'll do We'll do this, We'll
hit a break, we'll come back, we'll talk about it.
Tanner's up first. I got Michael Seminole, sam Us Marine
Corps Dave phone lines loaded. We'll get to them. Sports
Radio ninety two to seven WF and Z.

Speaker 5 (15:50):
I'm goad.

Speaker 2 (15:55):
FanDuel. Text line has been on fire, as it typically
is on a Panther Monday, but especially so today. Our
guy Jordan Rinaldi, our resident cage fighter, just jumped in
and said, just hopping in the cars. I'm not sure
what you guys are talking about. Oh, we've been breaking
down Bill Belichick's statement about the Patriots scouts not being
allowed on his facilities. Right, nothing about the Panthers, which,
by the way, I do applaud his honesty on that one.

(16:17):
At least, I still don't think it makes sense for
him or his program, but you know he could do
what he wants. I just you know, you're trying to
get guys scouted by the NFL, and I get that
you hate the Patriots, and I appreciate the honesty, But
are we sure that's the best policy for the team?
I don't know, But in all seriousness, he says, do
we need to have a conversation about the defensive schemes
and basics, angle of attack and tackling. I mean, I

(16:38):
like a viro in his demeanor, but something has to
give soft cushion on wideouts, box wide open, awful mistackles. Yeah,
that part that you just mentioned there. First of all,
a lot of folks just crushing the three to four today.
You know, why are we running the three four? If
you want to stop the run, you run the four
to three. And guys, I just I got to remind

(16:58):
you that next year in the NFL, four of the
top five defenses in the NFL were all three four defenses.
So it's not it's not the three to four as
opposed to the fourth three you could have a preference,
but some of the most elite defenses in recent years
in the NFL including most of them last year, were
in fact three four defenses. It's do you have the personnel,

(17:19):
are you healthy? And do you have a defensive coordinator
that knows what he's doing? And yesterday was incredibly frustrating
because you spent all this money on the defensive line
and it produced zero sacks zero I'll say it again,
zero sacks after spending more money than anybody else in
free agency on the defensive line. You brought in Turk Wharton,

(17:40):
you brought in Bobby Brown, you got the brothers Brown
back together, you got Ashn Robinson over there, and that's
what you get out of it. Nothing Nobody hits the quarterback.
Trevor Lawrence had all day to stand back in the
pocket and throw the football. There's a lot wrong with
this defense, but being completely unable to get to the
quarterback is where you start leap out of Nick Scorton yesterday,

(18:02):
prince Ll human miel and I think played like eight
to ten snaps in the game. DJ wantam nowhere to
be found. I mean just the defense was atrocious, absolutely atrocious.
And the linebackers, which we already knew was an issue,
they're terrible. I mean, they played terrible football yesterday slightly
better in the second half, but overall terrible. Let's go
to the phone lines. Tanner, the ranting Panther fan is

(18:22):
back here on the five o'clock hour. What's up, Tanner?

Speaker 1 (18:25):
What's going on?

Speaker 10 (18:26):
KB Man Max said it best this morning.

Speaker 12 (18:29):
Panther Monday has to be the worst day out of
the entire week. There's no worse day than Monday as
a Panther fan. You know, you go into work, everybody
looks at you and laugh. I mean, it's just miserable
the whole day. It absolutely sucks.

Speaker 1 (18:45):
I mean, what can I say?

Speaker 6 (18:46):
Man?

Speaker 10 (18:46):
It is the same hype every year. We're getting the
same garbage. This reminds me of Week one of last year.

Speaker 12 (18:53):
You know, Brice, he's just looking completely lost.

Speaker 11 (18:56):
Out of there.

Speaker 10 (18:57):
Two interceptions in a fumble.

Speaker 12 (18:59):
That's not gonna cut it. But we have got to
see some better play the helmet slam. I mean, I
get it, man, you're frustrated, but you make a throat
like that. I mean, who wouldn't be frustrated?

Speaker 10 (19:09):
That is terrible. This offense is a complete disaster.

Speaker 12 (19:13):
We have got to get xavierly gets head out.

Speaker 1 (19:15):
Of his ass.

Speaker 12 (19:16):
This is not gonna work long term. Ted Roan McMillan
is a rookie out there and making these guys look
like I mean, this is just a joke. Man.

Speaker 1 (19:25):
Our O line was man handled.

Speaker 3 (19:27):
The defense was completely invincible.

Speaker 12 (19:29):
Etn absolutely shredded us on that run.

Speaker 1 (19:33):
When we know he should have gotten tackled.

Speaker 12 (19:35):
Not gonna cut it, Dave, What is it gonna take?
I said it last year. I'm saying it again. What
are we going to do differently because we don't see
a change.

Speaker 1 (19:45):
You don't see a change, man.

Speaker 12 (19:48):
I am fired up.

Speaker 10 (19:49):
We are gonna keep pounding. It's gonna be a long year,
I'm telling you man.

Speaker 3 (19:53):
The weather delay was the.

Speaker 10 (19:54):
Only relief in this game.

Speaker 6 (19:56):
Bad, bad, bad.

Speaker 2 (19:58):
He founding guys appreciate it that that weather break. I
didn't know how to feel about that. It was me
and the boy yesterday at the house smoke, just me
and my three year old son. The girls were off
doing their own thing, and that weather delay hit and
I didn't quite know what to do. And he was like, Daddy,
can we play baseball outside? It's like, hell, yes we can.
I didn't say that, but I was like, hell, yes
we can. So I've got the Commander's Giants game in

(20:19):
my earbud on the phone, waiting for the game to return.
I'm just throwing BP to my son in the front yard,
just waiting for this damn game to come back on,
dreading it because I don't know what we're gonna get
coming out of the game. And it's just more of
the same. It's just more the same at week one
and somebody on the text line a minute ago said,
come on, guys, it's only one game. It is only
one game. We know that, we know that, but it's

(20:41):
been seven years no playoffs started out like it's going
to be eight longest stroup by the way, now in
Francis history, seven straight games of surrendering two hundred plus
yards on the I mean, you're watching a football team
that looks helpless. Fans feel helpless because they know the
defense can't get off the field, the linebacking corp Fiel's
help you. You're watching the offense make repeated mistakes, I mean,
just basic stuff. Can't get the play in, can't get

(21:02):
lined up, burning time outs before the play clock expires.
I know it's weak one, but why did Liam Cohen's
team look better? That man never coached a game before
in the regular season. Why why why? Why?

Speaker 3 (21:15):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (21:15):
Let's go to Simon Ole. Sam next on the phone line, Sam,
what's going on?

Speaker 6 (21:19):
What's going on? All right? Listen, man, I'm missing Cam Newton. Man.
We talked so much tunk about camdw overthrowing passes. At
least he threw balls down a field. He took shot
and guess what, he loved the game. But listen, man, listen,
we need linebackers.

Speaker 11 (21:33):
Man.

Speaker 6 (21:33):
We got to four off to the three year front.
We need linebackers. I missed Tack Thompson right about now.

Speaker 11 (21:38):
Man.

Speaker 6 (21:39):
We talked talk about him too and as well, but
we don't have no linebackers to field on gaps man,
And that's what makestep. It looks bad and you know
No's twenty one. He's trashed. We need to get him
off off the field.

Speaker 3 (21:50):
Man.

Speaker 6 (21:51):
Other than that, Man, I hope we have the six
good season or whatever. But man, right now, we look bad,
but we need linebacker.

Speaker 2 (21:59):
I appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (21:59):
You.

Speaker 2 (21:59):
The linebacker play yesterday was atrocious. Let's go to US
Marine Corps Dave next, Dave, what's going on, Kyle, how's
it going good? Kind of?

Speaker 13 (22:08):
So the positive yesterday man, the Jacksonville fans were super
nice and and and then the kickoff happened and it
just went downhill from there. Has Corvett did he practice
snapping to Bryce Young at all during the off season
in the preseason, because apparently he thought Bryce.

Speaker 8 (22:25):
Young was six to five.

Speaker 1 (22:27):
I mean it was, man, it was bad.

Speaker 6 (22:30):
It was bad.

Speaker 13 (22:31):
The Bryce Young throw to all the Clemson kids, Renfro
for Renfro, Renbro was wide open. It would have been
an easy touchdown. Bryce underthrew him. Rentro had had to
slow up, and then the ball hit the Jacksonville player in.

Speaker 1 (22:48):
The back of the head.

Speaker 13 (22:49):
If he would have threw that ball on time and
the right spot, that was easy touchdown. Everybody's hitting on
Nick Scott. I'll tell you about Nick Scott. I'm sure
you saw it if you didn't watch the replay of
j C. Horn's interception.

Speaker 1 (23:03):
When j C.

Speaker 13 (23:03):
Horn gets up and takes off running, there are two
Jacksonville players coming at him to tackling.

Speaker 4 (23:08):
I saw it.

Speaker 13 (23:09):
Nick Scott runs right in between them and does absolutely
nothing to even slow them down.

Speaker 2 (23:16):
Oh it's so funny, like you just like, which one
do I block?

Speaker 9 (23:18):
You know what?

Speaker 2 (23:19):
Neither one screw it.

Speaker 8 (23:19):
Let keep drawing.

Speaker 6 (23:20):
I'm just gonna run down.

Speaker 1 (23:21):
I'm not even gonna touch either one of them.

Speaker 13 (23:23):
And then the defense, good lord man, one quarterback hit
the whole game. One quarterback hit.

Speaker 2 (23:29):
Pathetic, that's crazy, no pressure whatsoever, pathetic. All I heard
about was an upgraded defensive line and dogs and you know,
getting Derrick Brown back and how big, how big a
difference this was gonna make? And they were soft for
four quarters yesterday.

Speaker 13 (23:43):
I don't know why we brought Evere back. I get it,
there was a lot of injuries last year, but a
historically bad defense that we had. I don't care how
many injuries. Uh, I don't understand why we brought him back.
I don't think Canalis is the guy either. We did
not look organized. Several people said what I think's right.

(24:03):
He is a really good offensive coordinator. A lot of
coordinators don't make good head coaches. And I don't think
he's the guy. As much as I hate to reset it,
but man, I just don't think.

Speaker 1 (24:15):
He's the guy.

Speaker 3 (24:15):
And I know ever ros or not, well, it.

Speaker 2 (24:17):
Ain't time to have that conversation yet. Just in terms
of the timeline, they're gonna get a few more weeks.
Although if if a Varo's defense gives up two hundred
yards again on the ground on Sunday in Arizona, he
might be taking a private flight back to Charlotte. If
they give up two hundred plus on the ground again Sunday,
I'm probably firing him if I'm being honest, and I
bet a lot of folks would jump in behind that

(24:38):
in support. But he gives up two hundred plus on
the ground for the eighth consecutive game. What else you
gonna do? Michael's up next on the phone lines, Michael,
what's going on?

Speaker 3 (24:51):
Hey, I got so much to say. I don't know
where to start, but too previous caller right on, sitting
out in that stadium was like sitting in a oven,
That's what I heard. On top of that, the seventy
two minute delay, it was just painful. Bryce could complete

(25:12):
that pass how we wanted because the end was sitting
in his lap and put.

Speaker 1 (25:16):
Eight seconds get that.

Speaker 2 (25:18):
Yeah, Okay.

Speaker 3 (25:19):
My question to you is this, what is our philosophy?
What's our identity?

Speaker 10 (25:24):
I don't think we know.

Speaker 3 (25:27):
Going into yesterday, I thought we weren't going to win
the game. Because I'm the most optimist defense but I
knew I don't trust the defense right, but I'm like, hey,
your offense is going to be ready when we come out.
It's the most conservative play calling I've ever seen, and
I don't understand why he does not put Bryce under
center more. If you're having problems with the staff and

(25:48):
itables play action boot legs.

Speaker 1 (25:51):
Then you go down.

Speaker 3 (25:52):
It's third and one, you're in the gun. You had
it go right up the middle. Then fourth down when
you should have been under center. Then fourth down you
go empty set. I don't know if cad Als is
the guy or not, but I don't know if he's
pawing the shots. You know, it's very weird, but everything
that is being done starts from the top comes down.
But you got to put your players in the best
positions to win, and that's the most frustrating thing. But

(26:15):
you've not got to adjust but defensively, because we know
what the word blitz mean at all is I'm not
manufacturing pressure with just a regular rush. We've got to
bring people. Now, yes that these are TV's may be vulnerable,
but the last they checked, we've got a top five
pag defensive back in the league that could probably play
man demand. Yeah, Trevor Lawrence was like he knew what

(26:38):
he was doing. But you and I could have played
quarterback yesterday, Kyle, Like, I mean, there was no pressure,
no sense of urgency. Now, Bryce, I thought he'd made
great throws. Sanders take that's a coal that poor guy.
You that one over to the sidelines. Eventually, our guys
have to make plays for our guys, and so anyway,

(27:00):
the I don't know what our identity is until we
know that guys.

Speaker 2 (27:04):
It's just the same to say their identity right now
is unprepared and soft. That's what it is. I appreciate
the phone call, Michael, and I hope that changes. I
really do. I'm sure they're listening up there, and it
meant in morehead right now, rolling their eyes. Listen to
this blow hard. Listen to these angry fans. They don't know.
We get it. Football is a hard game. Everybody works hard,
but you get paid millions of dollars to figure this
stuff out. The rest of the league is, but the

(27:26):
Panthers consistently can't. They can't. Why Carolina chills up next?
What's going on?

Speaker 6 (27:34):
Keilly? How are you not much?

Speaker 10 (27:36):
I hope you guys are doing better than I am,
but I'm gonna try to come from a different angle
because we're all just stating obvious.

Speaker 6 (27:42):
Everybody saw it. We know what's going on.

Speaker 10 (27:45):
But you know the saying throw the baby out with
the bath water, I do, well, we did something similar.

Speaker 6 (27:52):
But what we did we threw, uh.

Speaker 10 (27:56):
We sold the couch, the TV and everything, uh, the
bath tiles in order to pay the rent and get
the light bill pay, you know. So where everybody's going
crazy and can't figure out why, But it goes back
to when we's trying to establish a culture that we

(28:17):
had and we got rid of it to plug in
a quarterback. It's not Bryce's fault, but we thought we
could just drop in a quarterback, but we gave up
everything we had that was good in order to do that.
From more to uh, what was the running backs name
that was running over Deontay Foreman. Regardless of what you

(28:40):
think about Wilkes, he could have been a stop gap
to keep that culture going.

Speaker 9 (28:45):
And we gave all that up and.

Speaker 10 (28:47):
Draft capital to get Bryce to plug him into what
we gave everything away for. So that's why we are
where we are and we're going crazy like, oh, this
should be this should be able to be fixed. We're
trying to We had something. These other franchises that have something,
they go back and get it. We need another keith Lea,

(29:11):
they go and get it. We need another uh Timas
Ludiallo from the Steelers' safety or this or that.

Speaker 1 (29:19):
You go and get that to replace it. You don't
get it.

Speaker 10 (29:22):
We scrubbed even the field, the keep pounding. We scrubbed
it all. That's why we're here. It's not because these
players aren't good. It's because we scrubbed everything.

Speaker 6 (29:36):
Okay, that's all I got.

Speaker 2 (29:37):
I know, I appreciate you. Listen. The truth is, though,
when you decide to go in a different direction, even
if you think it's wrong, if you're trying to execute
a vision, you expect them to execute the vision. They
did what they did. You're right about Wilkes. They had
an identity. They were running the football.

Speaker 1 (29:50):
Hell.

Speaker 2 (29:50):
Just the other day we were talking about how the
single game record for total yards from scrimmage came in
that Panthers game against the Lines on Christmas Eve twenty
twenty two, when Deontay Foreman and Cuba Hoverard each ran
for like one hundred and fifty yards each five seventy
total from scrimmage wasn't pretty. Sam Darneld didn't throw it
especially well that day, but they ran the ball, but
they moved, they went in a different direction, and I

(30:12):
think you can rightfully argue that was wrong. But now
you have to press them on whether or not this
vision they're trying to execute is going anywhere, and as
of yesterday, the answers no. I'm sure there are people
over there who hate the fact that they're getting ripped.
They're calling us idiots today. They think fans know nothing,
and that's fine. But what we do know is that
we've watched a lot of football, a lot of Panthers football,
and this is crap. This product is crap. So fix

(30:35):
it because people are sick and tired of watching lifeless, disorganized, unprepared,
crap football. And that's largely what yesterday was. Again to
start the year, let's go to smoke on the headlines,
all right, No.

Speaker 7 (30:49):
Monday night football double header this week or today, But
we do have an interesting game here, the Chicago Bears
taking on the Minnesota Vikings, the first official start for
JJ mccarfy after missing all of last year due to injury,
and to start of year two for Caleb Williams. But
not only that, Kyle, there was an expose from our
good friend Tyler Dunn own Caleb Williams that' got a

(31:12):
lot of headlines.

Speaker 2 (31:13):
Over the weekend, noted Hornets fan Tyler Dunn. Boy the
cherry on top of this absolutely craptastic weekend would be
to watch Caleb Williams ball out tonight, wouldn't it?

Speaker 1 (31:25):
Why you have to?

Speaker 2 (31:26):
You know, let's just make it as bad as possible.
Caleb Williams ball's out and Adam Thielen catches three touchdowns
in a shootout on Monday night football. How about that?
You just wanted to be bad? No want to be mad?

Speaker 7 (31:36):
Or no, I don't want to be mad? But where
do you think this is going? Given the last seven years?
I can understand why people are thinking of that.

Speaker 2 (31:44):
All right, we'll come back and wrap up the show.
Sports Radio ninety two to seven wfn Z. Wrapping up
the show, The Charlotte forty nine Ers Coaches Show featuring

(32:05):
Tim Albn coming up in about eleven minutes. Top of
the hour stick around. They got some stuff to sort through.
They didn't look good against app State. They certainly didn't
Get looked good against Carolina over the weekend, so we'll
see what they have to say coming up at the
top of the hour real quick. On the text line
these mondays, I love it. I love y'all. We have
such great listeners and you send so many great texts
on the FanDuel text line that it's hard for me

(32:27):
to keep up. So if you sent it in and
I didn't read it, it's not because it was a
bad text or it didn't you know, didn't resonate with us.
They just come in so often that it can be
very hard to keep up. So thank you for all
that keep sending them throughout the week. But seven oh
four numbers said I think I hate it's tough for me.
I'm sorry it's tough for me. Bryce made some elite
throws yesterday and then just made some poor decisions. But

(32:49):
his selling point coming out of college was being a
super processor on the field, and he's getting fooled by
basic coverage. I don't think this is Bryce's fault. It's
hard to win when Xavier League Get has the awareness
of a Goldfish team. Mac ran a wrong route on
fourth down. Sanders can't catch, but Bryce can't fumble or
make that dumb throw to Xavier League. Get That's how
I felt about him in particular. I think Bryce made

(33:10):
some great throws yesterday. Go back and watch the game
a second time.

Speaker 3 (33:13):
Do it like I do.

Speaker 2 (33:14):
You know, do the fifteen second skip between plays right?
Just go play to play to play. You could also
go to YouTube and just watch every single play of
the game. But if you go back, you'll watch Bryce
made some great throws yesterday. But it doesn't matter if
he doesn't take care of the football, If he makes
stupid plays, freaks out, turns the football, it doesn't matter
what he does in between, and he'll have to go.

(33:36):
So that has to stop. I liked what we saw
down that loved what we saw down the stretch last year.
Loved it. But if he can't replicate that and he
keeps turning the football over, then he'll have to go.
The coaching staff has to do a better job of
getting their team ready to play. They weren't. They were unprepared,
they were unorganized on the field. It's indisputable. Then on
top of that, you had certain guys that didn't execute catches,

(33:57):
weren't made. I'm out on Xavier League. Aet he's got
I mean, he's got to prove everybody wrong at this
point that that blocking effort was just I can't say
what I want to say. That was the last straw
for me.

Speaker 3 (34:08):
That was it.

Speaker 2 (34:09):
That was the not dragging the toe was bad enough,
But to not block when there's a running play coming
to your side and it's tight formation and that defensive
back is basically in the box and you just whiff
bro get off the football field. Jalen Coker can't get
back fast enough. Let me squeeze in a phone call
real quick. Ryan is up next?

Speaker 3 (34:28):
Ryan?

Speaker 2 (34:28):
What's going on? I think we lost it?

Speaker 3 (34:32):
Oh? There we go? Ryan?

Speaker 2 (34:33):
What's going on?

Speaker 1 (34:34):
Can can you hear me?

Speaker 6 (34:35):
Now?

Speaker 2 (34:35):
We got you?

Speaker 9 (34:36):
Okay?

Speaker 10 (34:37):
Okay, I'll be I'll be real quick, because I mean.

Speaker 4 (34:40):
My point was pretty much touched on. But all I'm
gonna say. All I'm gonna say is and I'm being
a little bit humorous at this point too. But I'm
at a point now where I almost feel like an
investigation needs to be done into the Carolina Panthers on
what they do in the offseason because because because we
know Dave Canalis has been very vocal about he doesn't
like the pre season. But a lot of teams don't

(35:01):
like the preseason and don't play their players, but they're
but their players still come out there regular season ready
to go. Something something's wrong, you know, you know there's
a problem with us somehow that we're not ready. The
only good thing I think about yesterday was at the
Miami Dophins book first that we did that. That was
that was the only good thing. But we were definitely
not prepared, and we never seem like we are, and

(35:21):
I think it's time to investigate love it.

Speaker 2 (35:23):
Appreciate the phone call office office Bro. So I thought
it was Officer Bro. That would have been great. All right,
office Bro gets the final phone call of the day,
Office Bro, the honor is yours? What's going on?

Speaker 1 (35:35):
All right?

Speaker 11 (35:35):
Yeah?

Speaker 10 (35:35):
I was trying to make this quick.

Speaker 8 (35:37):
So yesterday I was watching the game, and honestly, at
the beginning of the season two, I'll be honest, and
I think everybody should also agree with me, because I mean,
defense was probably not the strong point. I think, if anything,
the strong point of the season was supposed to be
the offense. So I wasn't too mad about the defense
doing bet even though they were pretty trash. I wasn't
more mad about the offense. But honestly, if in one game,

(35:59):
I'm not gonna freak out too much. I will say this,
Remember my name, office Bro. Uh, Carolina beats Arizona, it's
gonna be a blowout.

Speaker 2 (36:08):
Oh office Bro. With the walk off, he smoke has
made the same prediction I didn't. Well, hang on, I
didn't say blowout, no no, but you picked you predicted
a win. Yeah, you think they go out to Arizona
and answer the call against the Cardinals and they improved
a one in one and then next Monday, we're not
ripping them, which would be great because I don't want
to rip them. I don't. I don't like ripping this team.
I like a lot of people at an organization. I

(36:29):
like a lot of these players. But I mean, that
was just craptastic yesterday and there was no excuse for it.
And I hope that coaching staff in particular is looking
themselves in the mirror this week and realizing they're the
reason for it. Yeah, those guys have to execute, but
your team was not ready to play, and a rookie
coaching staff making its debut together in the NFL Regular
season yesterday. They outworked you, they out coached you, and

(36:51):
I hope you take it personally. We're back tomorrow, real quick.
We go tipping our caps courtesy of our friends at Neogenics.
They help heal joint pain naturally with no reo medication,

Just absolutely amazing. I'll tip my cap to Panthers fans.
You're a resilient bunch. We're back tomorrow, Ryan McGee, Nick
