Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the Kyle Bailey Show, powered by Victory Chevy Charlotte,
where every month is Truck Month. Victory Chevy Charlotte, your
Silverado destination.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
Our number three Sports Radio ninety two seven wf n Z.
A lot of news going on today, a lot of
handwringing over the Panthers loss yesterday or last night to
the forty nine Ers on Monday Night Football. It was
a letdown, There's no doubt about that. And I think
a lot of the criticisms are valid. People feeling frustrated today,
completely valid. But I would tell you again, like I

(00:42):
didn't come in here. I was angry during the game
last night at some of the end game stuff. But
I'm not despondent today. It's just the continuation of a
roller coaster ride that I think we all just have to,
you know, take the rest of the way. It's what
it's been, it's what it's going to continue to be now.
I absolutely believe they're losing to the Rams on Sunday
against I mean, I think the Rams are going to
come in here. They might hang forty on Carolina. Like

(01:05):
if jac Horn doesn't come out of the concussion protocol
and with a bye week after that. I don't know
they're going to rush him back, so I don't think
that's gonna happen. Corey Thornton has broken a bone, is
broken his fibula. He's done for the year. Claude and
cheryls is in the concussion protocol as well. Doubt he goes.
Although you could get some relief by way of Trevin
Wallace and or Christian Roseboom this way, So we still

(01:25):
don't know about that. So that's strike four. Right, Let's
see what else are we looking at? Who else got
hurt last night? Oh, Chandlers of Valla got hurt last night?
Who else is hurt? Trying to think who else went
down last night? I mean he's not hurt, but he
suspended as mayor well, treyvon Mehrig, exactly, Sorry, breaking news today,
trayvon Merrig for the old nut punch of Juwan Jennings.
He's going to be suspended for this week's game against

(01:46):
the Rams. You ain't Rick Flair, baby, Yeah, So unless
suddenly this offense decides to wake up again and wants
to win a shootout against the La Rams, I'm gonna
chalk this one up as an l personally. Of course,
we got countdown to kickoff on Sunday, live from the doghouse.
Can't wait to see a lot of you out there.
We'll still have fun, we'll still tailgate, will still do pregame,
and who knows what will happen. I mean a lot
of folks say, yeah, watch them go beat the Rams

(02:07):
this weekend. Well, I'm here for it. I just doubt it.
But I continue to look at this and think, man,
probably gonna lose to La this Sunday, But then you
get a bye to get healthy. You're gonna come out
of that buy largely a lot healthier. I would imagine
it's can well. I doubt Robert hunts back at that point,
but he's I mean it's possible. Okay, the d.

Speaker 3 (02:27):
Injury window could be lifted to the twenty one day
ramp up period.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
Yes, then you come out of that and you go
visit the Saints. They beat you once, they might do
it again, but you come out of the by presumably healthier.
If you can win that game, you're back to seven
and seven with three to go, and two of them
against Tampa. Tampa's beat all to hell. Baker's going to
be playing through injury the rest of the season. I mean,
this division's gonna come down in my mind to the
final three games. I believe that they're going to end

(02:53):
that Saints game seven and seven with three to go
and two against Tampa Bay. And if they do, those
two games will decide who wins this division. It stinks
what happens, what happened last night, but buckle up, man.
This division might still get weird over the next five weeks.
In fact, I would bet you this division gets weird
over the next five weeks seven oh four, five, seven
ninety six ten. Hit us up on the FanDuel text line.

(03:13):
Quick reminder before we take some phone calls here. Tomorrow
is our signature giving event of the year. It's one
of the most special things we do here at wf
and Z, the twenty third annual wfn Z Street Turkeys,
presented by Ram Pavement from the wfn Z Jack Daniel's
Doghouse six am to six pm tomorrow night. And you

(03:34):
know the deal. We are collecting turkeys, frozen turkeys, canned
good and box goods for our neighbors this holiday season.
It's what we do. I say this every year. There
are there are levels to this. You know, all charity
is a good thing for the most part in my mind,
but some better than others. This isn't mittens for kittens.
This is feeding your neighbors every single year around the holidays.

(03:55):
So get it ready tomorrow. If you can drop by
with a frozen turkey, canned goods, box goods, we will
be there collecting all of that all day long, all right,
But we'll also take your monetary donations, and you can
text and make a donation by texting Street Turkeys all
one word to five zero one five five. We're going
to give that to you all day long tomorrow. But
I want to break that forty thousand dollars mark yet

(04:16):
again here in twenty twenty five. So that's the goal tomorrow,
forty thousand dollars raised in a single day on wfn Z.
If we can do that and collect a whole bunch
of food and help our friends and nourish up and
you know, make a big difference this holiday season, that's
what it's all about. So join us tomorrow for the
twenty third annual wfn Z Street Turkeys. I was thinking

(04:37):
about this yesterday doing some prep for it. This will
be my ninth consecutive wfn Z Street Turkeys, not quite
half of them. But it's pretty amazing to be involved
in this event. So I'm excited. I always get pumped
up for this event, and we hope to see you
help us make a difference tomorrow for the twenty third
annual WFNZ Street Turkeys. Now, all that said, let's take
some phone calls. Jersey Frank is up for steering the

(05:00):
five o'clock hour. Frank, what's going.

Speaker 4 (05:01):
On the happy Thanksgiving that the say own family does
a three pm? Oh my god, So because he got
to start early with the pasta and the lasagna, and
then by the time turkey comes, I feel like you're
gonna have a heart attack. So it's just crazy. So
three o'clock too long. It should be twelve o'clock or
one o'clock the latest. So, like you said, so you

(05:22):
can have a little snack later on, but I'm not cooking,
so I just eat.

Speaker 5 (05:27):
So you know that game last night, you know.

Speaker 4 (05:30):
I told her wife, I said, you know, miss Jersey Frank,
they're just competitive. I didn't expect him to win. But
if we're being completely honest with each other and everybody
all the same, that defense in twenty fifteen would have
won the football game.

Speaker 6 (05:47):
Defense was fantastic.

Speaker 4 (05:49):
They didn't really like Listen, mccaffery's gonna get what mccaffery's
gonna get. He's just gonna do it. Kittle's gonna do
what he's gonna do. Even at the fifteen defense, they
would have those plays would have been given up. But
if you just replaced one player last night, Kyle one,
we would have won by two touchdowns.

Speaker 5 (06:09):
We should have had.

Speaker 4 (06:10):
We should have beat them by fourteen. We should have
beat it by fourteen, maybe even twenty one, but we
don't have. We have a quarterback that sort of they say.
Somebody said it on the Facebook today.

Speaker 5 (06:21):
He is not the guy.

Speaker 4 (06:23):
He is the guy in between the guys. And I'm
not saying next year is going to be the guy.
But he's not the long term guy. He's the middle
guy to get us to the next guy. But he's
not the guy. He's just not that. We should have
We should have beat them by fourteen last night. We
should have been And canals are no thing either in
this in all this debacle. And like you said nine times,

(06:46):
we have two of I mean, we're getting national attention
for our running backs and we run the ball nine times. Oh,
by the way, Kyle, one more things. We had three
interceptions before halftime and we were only down instead of nothing,
and we didn't score anything. I just I don't know.
I just don't think he's a guy and he's throw

(07:07):
an interception into double coverage from the one and I
mean everybody, I mean every even non football people like
I just watched the games on television. They were circling
where the players were.

Speaker 7 (07:19):
And there they threw this big any.

Speaker 4 (07:20):
Hole where he could have just he could have walked
it in. I just don't know. I don't know if
you know, if the game is too fast for him.
I don't know if the coaching is leading him in
the right direction. Like Kareem said, I never played professional football,
and every even played college football. I did a lot
of coaching and a lot of coaching, and just yes,
there's a communication problem, Kyle, because someone's either not guiding

(07:44):
him or he's unable to recognize what he's seeing.

Speaker 2 (07:48):
Well, there's no doubt, Yeah, there's no doubt. Freak. I
got to take some other phone calls. Brother, great to
hear from you. Happy Thanksgiving, man, I appreciate you. Buddy,
Bryce went the wrong place with the ball a handful
of times. No one's disputing that at all. But and
I'm gonna go back and watch it again tonight, hopefully
with more of an All twenty two view. There were
other things out there on the field that didn't go

(08:08):
well port like wrong routes, drops, excel getting bullied by
the opposing secondary last night. Didn't love that. And also,
I don't know how in that defense, against that defense,
you don't target the tight ends a bit more in
the passing game, especially off the middle of the field.
I don't know if that was by design or Bryce
just missed a couple of opportunities, which is certainly possible,

(08:29):
but you know nothing about the offensive approach. That's the
maddening thing is that I think both the head coach
and the quarterback were terrible. How do you end up
with only one real deep shot after what you just
did against Atlanta against that San Francisco defense. Was it
Bryce refusing to pull the trigger, because I mean, we
just saw him do it all last week, so I
can't imagine he was afraid to do it. Right. It

(08:51):
wasn't that they were too conservative in the way. They
just ran the football over and over again. The back's
got nine combined carries, Rico got six, and Chuba got three.
So you say you want to be running team, you
don't do that. Okay. People say, well he doesn't trust
his quarterback. Well, he trusted him enough last night to
not run the football and to put it in Bryce's
hands in a close game. They didn't get blown out

(09:11):
last night. That was a one possession game with two
forty one left to play. Even at seventeen to three,
you're not out of it. Rock Purty wasn't looking great
last night. And that's the other thing. Like Rock Party
threw three first half interceptions that Kyle Shanahan did not hesitate,
even though they leaned on Christian McCaffrey, no doubt, he
didn't hesitate to let Rock Party continue to sling the rock.
So it was frustrating to watch the Panthers play offense

(09:33):
last night. Greg is up next, Greg? What's going on? Buddy?
Thank you for holding.

Speaker 6 (09:37):
Hey guys, Yeah, thanks a lot, good analysis, great calls,
real quick, this perspective, and then.

Speaker 5 (09:43):
I got a question. I'll get off the line.

Speaker 6 (09:46):
Look around the league, we can only compare Dave Canalis
to another Dave canalas first year coach, second year coach
type thing. Look what Vrabel's doing in New England with
Drake May. Okay, Now, now Vrabel played the game and
he won the Super Bowl in the game. The guy's
a winner. And then he's got a play caller Josh mcdallas.

(10:09):
He's probably a better play caller than he is a
head coach with his little thing at you know, with
the Raiders. Anyway, real quick, look around the league. That
sky cam is the best thing they've ever come up with.
We look down at the field, there's McCaffrey.

Speaker 5 (10:24):
We look across.

Speaker 6 (10:25):
We can see our defense lining up to defend McCaffrey.
Now it's a mixed direction. Kyle Shanahan's got a complicated offense.

Speaker 5 (10:34):
Right, he'll go right, the whole the whole.

Speaker 6 (10:37):
Line goes right, McCaffrey cuts left. It's it's it's not
hard to defend. We we we It was the Carolina
Panthers against Christian McCaffrey. What is Dave Canalis and these
quarterbacks we've got. And I'm all for him, We're supporting
the team.

Speaker 8 (10:55):
We're all for him.

Speaker 6 (10:56):
But what are they doing with a game film? It
was one guy against the Carolina Panthers and we couldn't
stop him. So I'm asking the question, I think he
needs an offensive coordinator. But I'll let I'll get off
the line. That's too comment.

Speaker 2 (11:11):
Thank you, Yeah, no, I appreciate it. There's been a
lot of talk about that today. Does Dave need to
give up play calling? You know, focus on being a
head coach? All these things come out when you lose,
and I'm starting, I was starting to say that I'm
I'm growing weary. Right, It's really not true. I mean,
we're talking sports, so it's not that bad. But it's

(11:32):
those wild swings in production and looking competent and not
more specifically and having an identity and then getting away
from it the following week. It's just confusing for people
like you were having success in the run game, but
you only run it nine times with your backs and
you weren't getting blown out. Why that makes a whole
lot of sense to me. So I appreciate the phone call.
Tanner's up next, Tanner? What's going on?

Speaker 5 (11:55):
What's going on in KB?

Speaker 8 (11:56):
I want to preface this by saying I had a
blast at Platform last night.

Speaker 5 (12:01):
That was the place to be in Charlotte three dollars beers,
one dollar wings. Up until game time, I had a blast.
But as soon as that game started, man, I really
really got upset. That was That was bad football, guys.
I talked about it before the game. I said, please, please.

Speaker 6 (12:21):
Don't let this be another Pittsburgh.

Speaker 5 (12:23):
Twenty eighteen game where everything just falls apart. That's exactly
what happened. I felt so bad. I almost jinxed the game. Now.
To be honest, guys, that that was really really disappointing.
I mean, starting with the first half turnovers that we
thought that we could convert. We did absolutely nothing with

(12:44):
those three first half picks. Nothing. We had nothing to
show for it. Bright did not play well. He played
like garbage. I'll just come out and say it. He
played awful last night. Those two interceptions, the one at
the goal line. I am so frustrated with Dave Canalis.
He should have owned up to that. He should have said,

(13:04):
you know what, I should have run the ball. I
should have given it a Rico. That would have been
a touchdown because us, as fans, we believed that that
would have been a score. I thought that was ridiculous.
He should have failed his own bluff and he didn't.
Dave Canalis does have to figure it out. This play
calling cannot continue.

Speaker 7 (13:23):
Guys.

Speaker 5 (13:23):
We need to figure out whether or not it's him
or somebody else or he just has to dig deep
because this is not working. It looked so bad last night.
We had no answers, no rhythm. There was no execution
that was crapped by this football team. Guys. Christian McCaffrey
went crazy. He ran all over us, and that just

(13:45):
seems to happen. This team has absolutely no identity. It
seems like week after week we find ourselves wondering, well,
what is this offense gonna do? The defense bails us
out every time. Jacy Horn, you are one of the
best players on this team. Thank goodness we have you, guys.
I don't know what's gonna happen this weekend against the Rams,

(14:08):
but it's going to be ugly. It seems like our
entire team's injured too, so I have no words, honestly,
but Keith Founding.

Speaker 2 (14:15):
Appreciate you. Tanner, Thank you buddy. Again. I keep saying,
there you know Rams are coming to town. Matt Stafford's
thrown twenty five touchdowns to zero interceptions. His last eight games.
They're the best coach team in the NFL, the best
team in the NFC, I think, the best team in
the entire league. Right now, They're about ninety eight percent
going to come in here and win on Sunday. Now,
it's just almost certainly going to happen. I have the
better coach.

Speaker 4 (14:36):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (14:36):
I will say this too because I want to mention this.
Remember when the complaint among fans was that JC Horn
doesn't get interceptions? Yes, how many interceptions does he have
this year?

Speaker 2 (14:48):
Carry the two? Six, five? Five? Okay, five? Yeah, that's
a lot. Yeah, with that many games left.

Speaker 3 (14:55):
Yeah, even if he likely misses this next game, now,
I don't think he's going to get direct, which by
the way, is a random one. The record is still
Doug Evans here in Carolina. I don't know if you
remember that name. We barely, but yeah, yeah, two thousand
and one, he had eight interceptions.

Speaker 2 (15:10):
But that's a lot. That's a lot. But still an
incredible year from j C.

Speaker 3 (15:14):
Horn and hopefully he will be back in time for
at least a Saints game.

Speaker 2 (15:18):
No doubt. All Right, Jesse is up next on the phone. Jesse,
what's going on? Thank you for the phone call.

Speaker 5 (15:23):
What's up, guys.

Speaker 1 (15:24):
I want to say, very disappointed in the game last night,
but you know, I.

Speaker 5 (15:28):
Mean, Kyle Shanahan is a great play caller.

Speaker 1 (15:31):
I remember there were times I was looking back up
and be like, wow, they still have the ball. And
I went back and I looked and they had four
possessions where they had the ball for six minutes or more.

Speaker 5 (15:41):
But you know, you got to give your hat. You
got to keep your.

Speaker 1 (15:43):
Hat off to Avera. I think he called the hell
of a game. And you know, I think if we
had J. C. Horn in the second half, I think
we hold him under twenty. But to kind of piggyback
off some of one of these other guys are saying,
you know, I think Canalis is just flipped lots of
between identities here, and I think it's really throwing the
offense off. You know, I thought very early on when

(16:06):
we had our first possession, I think midfield, it was
fourth and two, I'm thinking, why not why not set
a tone here, why not go for it? And then
he decides to get cute on the one in the
in the end zone and Bryce throws the interception. So
I mean, I think everyone's got this knee jerk reaction
right now. But I guess the million dollar question is

(16:27):
do we want to bring this team to the playoffs?
You know, we're talking about playing the Bucks twice and
the Saints once. You know, do we really want to
see this team win out and and face a real
playoff opponent?

Speaker 2 (16:39):
Oh well, I mean the answer for me is yes.
Like I I, I'm not really concerned about are you
worried about getting their their tails kicked against the you know,
in the first round playoff game, because I'm not that
worried about that. If they get there, that's a massive win.

Speaker 5 (16:54):
Yeah, I mean it.

Speaker 4 (16:55):
Personally, I think this season has been been a great win.

Speaker 1 (16:58):
I think Canals has done a great job, you know,
putting together the right staff and turning a two win
team into a six win team right now. But you know,
just just with all the ups and downs and the
consistencies in consistenies on offense, I mean, it's just a
team we really want to, you know, look forward to
seeing in the playoffs and getting in the national spotlight
again and just getting our tails kicked in you know.

Speaker 2 (17:20):
Sure, Well, listen, I appreciate the phone call. Thank you, Jesse.
I agree with shrimp fried Bryce on the text line,
which will never not be funny. He says, the season
starts after the bye week. Get your guys healthy, hope
you can beat the Bucks twice. This team has no
shot against the Rams with the current injury situation. They
can still make it, but they have to get healthy
and get physical after the bye week. No more playing
cute today. Feels bad last night. I mean again, the

(17:41):
criticism is mostly valid, but like I keep saying, you're
probably gonna lose this week and go to six and seven,
then you get to buy you come out of that hell.
You might go down to New Orleans and lose to
the Saints twice. That would feel really, really bad, but
there's a very good chance they also can go down
there and win. So you do that. You're seven and
seven with three to go, two against the Bucks. You're

(18:03):
not getting a wild card spot in this NFC in
all likelihood, and somebody's got to win the division. So
it's all you mean, Listen, I hate to keep saying
this stuff, but if you get to that point and
you're seven and seven with three to go, and it's
two games against Tampa to decide who goes to the playoffs. Yeah,
sign me up. I'm good. Last night sucked, but I'll
take that all day long. And also, you don't know

(18:24):
what Sam Donald you're getting. That's true too, That's very true.
Let's let's let's hit a break. P mack Andrew will
take some more of your phone calls. We'll catch you
up on the news of the day as well. Sports
Radio ninety two seven WFNZ. Sports Radio ninety two seven

(18:55):
wfn Z. We've had loaded phone lines all day long.
We're gonna keep taking phone calls here in just a second,
lot of text a lot of you know, upset fans.
We do have some people that are trying to play
it cool and even and say, hey, it's just that
kind of year. This is who we are week to week.
We got to settle in and just take it for
what it is. The rest of the way, I did
have Uh, let's see q S. Dave says, it makes

(19:18):
me sick, sick to think that Bryce Young will be
our quarterback going into next year. We have really good
running backs. Honestly, I think our receivers are above average
as a unit, maybe not individually. What Dave, respectfully, what
does that mean though, receivers are above average as a unit,
maybe not individually. Then he says, our defense could use
another guy or two, but is serviceable. Our quarterback has

(19:40):
no chance to bring the best out of this team.
We are wasting pretty good talent with the guy here
and not be able to get it done. Somebody earlier
told me KB that you will lose the fan base
if you bring Bryce Young back for twenty twenty six,
you will lose the fan base. I mean maybe if
you just announced at the end of the year that
he's your start, no matter what, that might be like

(20:02):
dejecting to some people, but I don't. First of all,
we're not there yet. We have to see what the
final five games look like. And I still think you're
bringing in like if Andy Dalton retires, and I suspect
that'll be the case, you're probably looking to bring in
a veteran, not just a veteran backup, but a veteran,
you know, to compete for the starting job if you
don't like the way that Bryce played down the stretch.

(20:23):
So we can we can quibble on some of those
assertions right there. I did earlier, as I said, Hey,
I think they're gonna be seven and seven after the
Saints game with three to go and two against Tampa
that will decide the division. And I think it was
trailer Park Thomas who said, oh great, so we can
end the season, you know, eight and nine and in
draft purgatory, I mean, is that the worst thing? I

(20:47):
think for eight and nine would have always been perceived
as progress. For this organization to go from two and
fifteen to five and twelve to eight and nine, and
more specifically under Dave Canalis, to go from five to
twelve to eight and nine, I think up top and
the tippy top reaches of the organization aka David Tepper
and Nicole, I think that will be perceived as as

(21:07):
progress if that happens.

Speaker 3 (21:10):
Yeah, and you know that draft purgatories where you drafted
a lot of your great players. Thomas Davis was fourteenth
overall pick. Right, Brian Burns you know, say what you will,
but Brian Burns was the top fifteen.

Speaker 2 (21:20):
He was fifteenth.

Speaker 3 (21:21):
Yeah, I mean you used a fourteenth pick in two
and seven to trade back and essentially get Ryan Khalil
and John Beeson.

Speaker 2 (21:30):
So that's not really purgatory. No, I don't think so either,
And I continue to use Detroit as the example here,
one of them, maybe the best one. Dan Campbell's first year,
they go three thirteen and one with Jared Goff as
the quarterback. Mind you, they went three thirteen and one
with Goff as the quarterback. Now, Goff put up better
numbers than Bryce, but not not crazy good. Like the

(21:54):
numbers were, what thirty two hundred yards, nineteen touchdowns eight
in or six? Right, Bryce is kind of on that
pace right now and kind of what it's looking like.
And then hold on real quick. And then the second
year under Dan Campbell, they go nine and eight, So
you're saying eight and nine draft purgatory. Who wants that?
They went nine and eight the next year, missed the playoffs,

(22:15):
finished second in the NFC North. Before that third year
breakout year under Dan Campbell and they were rebuilding the roster.
And I'll point this out too.

Speaker 3 (22:22):
Dan Campbell took over play calling duties in year one
from Anthony Lynn, which I forgot Anthony Lynn was even
an OC in Detroit.

Speaker 2 (22:29):
Good god.

Speaker 3 (22:31):
He didn't give up play calling duties until after his
second season, when he gave it to this young whipper
snapper named Ben Johnson. And that's when the offense really
took off. Yeah, yeah, all right, let's go to the
phone lines. Actually, hold on before we do that, do
you want to rant about the officiating real quick?

Speaker 2 (22:47):
You go and do that. A few people have asked
why we're not harping on the officiating more from last night.
Go go ahead and give him your stats. Go ahead,
all right, Kyle.

Speaker 3 (22:56):
Over the last two games the forty nine ers opponents,
and just coincidentally, the uh coincides with Brock pretty coming
back from his injuries. The last two games against the
Cardinals and yesterday against the Carolina Panthers, how many penalties
were called against the forty nine ers upponents.

Speaker 2 (23:11):
You want to take a guess the last two games? Yes,
total penalties for San Francisco again, for the teams against
San Franciso. Oh, for the teams against San Francisco. Huh
twenty one? Okay, twenty I was gonna say twenty five.

Speaker 3 (23:26):
And only three penalties four to San Francisco forty nine ers.

Speaker 2 (23:31):
Wow, And they did they have four called on him
last night? Not that I thought they had four or no, two,
I'm sorry they had to last night? Right, Carolina had four?

Speaker 4 (23:39):
Right?

Speaker 3 (23:39):
Yeah, Carolina had four, So they only and one only,
no calls on only one call in the offense. But
it was a dead ball delay game. They missed a
lot of holdings on that first drive. They seemed to
go blind about it.

Speaker 2 (23:51):
Oh but Bryce's second pick, there was a clear penalty
that didn't get called.

Speaker 3 (23:54):
Right and even on the holding call against Ike Kwanu,
that's a who gayzy holding call.

Speaker 2 (23:58):
I've ever seen one of you missed where Bryce Young
got hit in the head. You mean to tell me
San Francisco didn't hold once last night.

Speaker 3 (24:04):
And by the way, Kyle, over the last two games,
they have not been called for one live ball action
penalty on offense. They've had one hundred and twenty three
steps and only one penalty. Now, look, maybe I'm getting conspiratorial.
I don't really care, but it coincides with the Rams Seahawks,
and now you put the Niners back into the NFC

(24:25):
West mix. You're trying to get the Niners back into
the mixto where you could have your biggest goose and
the biggest egg beat a top dog yet again, because
let's face it, you don't want the Rams to have
a home playoff games because they won the West, because
you know, their stadium will be taken over by visiting fans.
You don't really want the Seahawks to win it eiver
because they don't have the franchise guy in Sam Darnold.

(24:46):
You might like to promote him, but you don't really
want to promote him as one of your guy guys.
But sanfran that's the biggest West Coast team you have
in the NFC, arguably in the entire NFL.

Speaker 2 (24:57):
You might want to help them out as much.

Speaker 3 (24:59):
And guess who next two games are against the lowly
Browns and the lowly Titans. You think that they're gonna
call more penalties on the forty nine Ers.

Speaker 2 (25:06):
Over the next two weeks. No, probably not.

Speaker 3 (25:09):
They're gonna help that well, they're not gonna fully rig it,
but they're gonna well only give the little side eye
to the ref saying hey, let's make sure we ensure
the forty nine ers wins.

Speaker 2 (25:19):
Hey, that is conspiratorial, not not, it is conspiratory.

Speaker 9 (25:22):
Four.

Speaker 2 (25:22):
I'm just saying, you just keep saying over there, I'm
with you. I mean, the idea that San Francisco didn't
commit more penalties last night is just I've seen the screenshots.
I've seen the steel Frames. I've seen a handful of
instances where they were holding and never got flagged for
it last night. They also want to ensure that there's
only one NFC South team in because they want the
bigger markets of the NFC North and the NFC West

(25:43):
to get into the playoffs. Let's go to the phone lines. P.
Mack is up next, P mac what's going on? Well, guys,
I'm gonna lay it out like this.

Speaker 10 (25:52):
I'm really tired of Dave Canalis. I think it all
falls on him. He's the leader and the coach of
this team, and I'm gonna lay it out just like this,
whether win or loss. Panthers versus jag are Week one.
We scored only ten points against the Patriots and the Panthers.
We scored only thirteen points against the Jets. We scored

(26:13):
only thirteen points against the Bills. We only scored nine
points against the Packers, though it was a win, we
only scored sixteen points. And against the worst offensive team
in the league, we only scored seven points in the Saints.
And here we are sitting last night with only scoring
nine points. Now, you tell me this is not a
this is not just a player issue. This is a

(26:33):
real coaching issue. When you can't score more than thirteen
points in any of these games that I just listed
that we've had in this season, it's Dave Canalist that
it all falls under. And I'm gonna say it like
this too, and then I'll hang up.

Speaker 5 (26:47):
He just simply is.

Speaker 10 (26:48):
Not what we thought he was because we all attributed
him to be some kind of offensive guru.

Speaker 2 (26:53):
Quarterback coach guy.

Speaker 10 (26:55):
The reality is this, Baker Mayfield in Tampa has been
doing way better without Dave Canalis anyway.

Speaker 7 (27:04):
So it was not really a Dave Canalis thing.

Speaker 10 (27:05):
With Baker Mayfield for two seasons in a row, he's
been in MVP conversations and so it's not a Brice thing,
I don't think as much as it is as a
Dave Canalis thing. And that's just the facts are in
the schedule and in the score, and it's just the
fact that we are not scoring points for an offensive
guru type of guy that Tepper brings in and he

(27:26):
can't score more than thirteen points in these games. Come on, now,
it's Dave Canalis guys.

Speaker 2 (27:33):
Okay, pmack, I appreciate the phone call. Those numbers as
you rattle off the total points in those games. It is.
It's alarming, it's eye popping. I agree with that part.
Andrew is up next on the phones. Andrew, what's going on?

Speaker 9 (27:44):
Hey, KB, thanks for taking my call. You asked me
a follow up question. I called in yesterday and he said,
how late am I gonna let my daughter stay up
and watch the panther?

Speaker 5 (27:53):
He said, text me back.

Speaker 9 (27:54):
I hung that on you, my bad. But you said,
how late am I gonna let her stay up? I
texted you guys back, and I said, we're staying of
the sing Sweet Caroline. He's founding, but I reserve the
right the sing Sweet Caroline in the bathtub before the
game and then put the kids to bed after they
go up seven nothing and we look like we're about
to get dog walks. So that's actually the reality of

(28:14):
the story. But she stayed up and I wished her
away to bed, and she said, what's happening, Daddy? I said,
it's just the fans to being the pastors again. But
everybody touched on it night runs. Is it going to
get it done? The game plan seems to be the issue.
The team looks really nervous out there. My question for
U KB what does this team look like next year,
particularly the defense? When EJ is gone and he's the

(28:36):
head coach of another team and we're looking for a.

Speaker 11 (28:38):
New B team.

Speaker 2 (28:39):
Well, I appreciate the phone call. That's a lot right
there to what happens when he's poached away?

Speaker 3 (28:44):
Will he be not this offseason? I don't think. I
think he'll get back into the interview rooms. But I
don't think, yeah I want to hire. He might, but
it takes a little while longer I think for defensive
coaches to get hired. I mean, prime example, look at
Sean McDermott. In no way, she or forms should he
have taken six seven years to get into head thank you,
and get into a head coaching role like he was.

(29:07):
He was a DC here from twenty eleven to twenty sixteen. Yeah,
that was a joke. Took a while.

Speaker 2 (29:12):
Took a while. I mean, listen, I don't think it's
a guarantee that if he goes away, you got to
find a new defensive coordinator. You can do that. Goose
is up next, Goose, what's going on?

Speaker 9 (29:21):
Yo?

Speaker 2 (29:22):
We'll say, I am thank you, Yeah, we got you?

Speaker 8 (29:27):
Okay?

Speaker 4 (29:27):
Cool?

Speaker 8 (29:28):
Yeah?

Speaker 11 (29:28):
I love the Dan Campbell comparison.

Speaker 3 (29:31):
I really hope that we have a similar fortune come
next year.

Speaker 5 (29:36):
And I honestly hope we get our own Ben Johnson
to ookin nice.

Speaker 11 (29:40):
But hey, if Dave Knalys is gonna say that he's
got to run the ball.

Speaker 9 (29:45):
They run the ball.

Speaker 11 (29:47):
It's first and goal on the one or the two.

Speaker 9 (29:52):
Run the ball.

Speaker 11 (29:53):
You've got one of the hottest running backs in the
league right now.

Speaker 2 (29:56):
Run the ball.

Speaker 9 (29:58):
And Bryce Young is the it's first and goal.

Speaker 11 (30:01):
If the throwing wing isn't one hundred percent there, then.

Speaker 4 (30:04):
Throw it away.

Speaker 11 (30:05):
A lot of people are saying that he could have
run it.

Speaker 5 (30:07):
In twenty seven.

Speaker 11 (30:08):
Was there for the interception and to defend.

Speaker 7 (30:11):
That pyelon I don't know.

Speaker 5 (30:13):
I don't know.

Speaker 11 (30:13):
If Bryce would have gotten there, it would.

Speaker 6 (30:14):
Have been tough.

Speaker 11 (30:16):
But I'm not gonna defend Bryce. I'm not gonna blame
him a whole lot either, because this loss is on
Dave Canalis. The defense did their job.

Speaker 5 (30:25):
J C. Horne is a dog dog.

Speaker 11 (30:29):
And Dave Canalis failed us by failed. Bryce Young failed,
The defense failed everybody by calling the game scared timid,
but scared scared that we weren't gonna be able.

Speaker 5 (30:40):
To keep up.

Speaker 11 (30:41):
So he got too cute and got two aggressive in
places that he shouldn't have been, and he wasn't aggressive
in places that he should have been. So I'll take
it off the air for that.

Speaker 12 (30:51):
But that's my thoughts.

Speaker 2 (30:53):
Good night, guys, Thank you buddy. Appreciate the phone call.
I mean, listen, I'm not going to rehash everything. In fact,
I want to squeeze in as many phone calls as
we can. I will say I got a seven oh
four number texting in with an interesting take because some
people are saying it's all on Bryce, are all on
Dave Canalis, as p mack did. Others saying, don't blame
the coach for Bryce's decision making, so on and so forth.
Seven oh four number says, as the announcers pointed out,

(31:14):
the offensive problems were just that we couldn't stay on
the field one for seven on third down. Out of
the Panthers nine possessions, two of them ended with third
down drops by Tedero McMillan. Another before the end of
half was a wrong route by either McMillan or Bryce,
actually flagged for intentional grounding. A few penalties also wiped
out decent gains. Two holding penalties erased gains of nine

(31:34):
and seven, and the Excel step out of bounds was
a fourteen yard pickup. Somehow Excel manages to have a
random penalty like this every single game. The two picks
were devastating and probably two forced, but there were contributors
that led to them. Two tight ends in the same
area on the first DPI on the second pick. It's
so much. It is more layered and nuanced than just

(31:54):
Bryce bad, Dave bad. I thought Dave was. I thought
Dave had his worst night last night. I thought David
really bad night. I thought Bryce made some bad decisions
a couple of times went the wrong way with the football.
But like receivers had bad nights, there were some protection
issues last night. They just weren't ready for the spotlight.
And that's the overall biggest problem. Right now, we go
to smoke on the headlines.

Speaker 3 (32:15):
Well, we can call the Carolina Panthers last night SNL
but not ready for primetime players, that's what they were.
But actually got some good news Kyle in regards to
Charlotte Sports, specifically the Charlotte Hornets.

Speaker 2 (32:28):
Kyle, because the injury report has.

Speaker 3 (32:29):
Come out for some morrow night's game between the Knicks
NBA Cup game, LaMelo Ball, Ryan Kaprinter, and Brendan Miller
are not listed on the injury report.

Speaker 2 (32:40):
Hey, how about that? And that's the big thing.

Speaker 3 (32:42):
With maybe not the biggest thing with the star power,
but the fact that kau Printer is able to come
back after twisting or rolling up his ankle on Friday
or Saturday. Excuse me, that's big that he's not going
to be out for a long time.

Speaker 2 (32:54):
Yeah, we'll come back. We'll grab a couple of phone calls.
We'll wrap up the show. Sports Radio ninety two to
seven WFNZ. One final time, Sports Radio ninety two seven

(33:17):
wfn Z. Please get yourself in the giving spirit for
the next twelve hours as we get set for Street Turkeys,
the twenty third annual wfn Z Street Turkeys presented by
Ram Pavement tomorrow all day long at the WFNZ Doghouse,
powered by Jack Daniels. We hope to see you out there.
You know what we do every year, it's our signature
giving event of the year. We collect food and we

(33:38):
raise money to feed our neighbors in the Charlotte community.
Every single year. It's one of the most impactful things
that we do and that you do as well. We
can't do it without you. Let's break some records tomorrow
at the twenty third annual WFNZ Street Turkeys. Get ready.
Let's take a couple of phone calls from Panthers fans
as we wrap up the show here on a day
after a game. It's what we do when Jersey Mike

(33:59):
is up. First, her'sy Mike, what's going on?

Speaker 10 (34:02):
KB?

Speaker 7 (34:02):
Thanks for taking my call.

Speaker 6 (34:04):
And it was a pleasure.

Speaker 8 (34:05):
To stop by Platform Coffee yesterday and say hello to
you and city on my way to church last night.

Speaker 2 (34:13):
Yeah, it was great to meet you. You're a well
dressed man.

Speaker 5 (34:17):
Hey.

Speaker 6 (34:17):
I just want to close out with two quick things.

Speaker 8 (34:21):
Number one, I really think Panther fans are taking the.

Speaker 4 (34:25):
Loss a little too serious.

Speaker 8 (34:27):
This is actually protocoll for the NFL. The Carolina Panthers
have the same number of wins as the Kansas City
chief the Baltimore Ravens, and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Speaker 5 (34:43):
Those are not trash teams the NFL. This is how
it's built.

Speaker 8 (34:47):
It's up and down. And then the second thing is like, listen,
I'm a Panther fan, win or lose, but when they lose,
life is still good man. I was in church last night,
partying with a big Thanksgiving dinner. I got my two
sons in Charlotte, four grand kids.

Speaker 5 (35:08):
Life is good man.

Speaker 8 (35:10):
I'm a Panther fan, win or lose, but life is good.

Speaker 2 (35:13):
Thanks for taking my call anytime, Mike. I appreciate you, buddy.
I got some people upset on the text line calling
out Panthers fans, you know, bleep These people and all
the couch quarterbacks and couch coaches that think it's so
easy to play and call plays in the NFL, get
the bleep out of here. I asked them just to
go on a bleepy simulation called Madden and play at
the hardest level and tell me if they can call
a better game or make better reads. Y'all need to know.

(35:36):
This game is so much harder than you just wanting
your coaches and players to be better. It is. Sometimes
we lose sight of that. And it's like with the
Bryce thing today, kab what are we gonna do about Bryce?
What you're gonna do is watch him play the next
five games or or don't some to you, but like
that's what you're gonna do, is you're gonna watch him
play the next five games and you'll see how well
he plays and if he falls short, We're having a
big old conversation this offseason about who else is coming

(35:57):
in here to compete. If he plays well and get
them to the playoffs, attitudes change. You just gotta we gotta,
we gotta write it out. We gotta wait to see
Marquise is up next on the phones, Marquise, how you been?

Speaker 7 (36:10):
I've been good?

Speaker 5 (36:11):
Kyle can't complain.

Speaker 12 (36:12):
Man after hollidays, they might be saying, blick me too,
because I'm in here. Just say that this is for
I got a question for all the Brice man say.
Bright is a good guy, but if I'm doing some research,
I'm looking up and seeing that he is twelve and
twenty six as a starter. Of course they gonna try
to blame it on bad play calling. I guess we've

(36:35):
seen what Frank write and him what type of combination
they had. They didn't win a lot of games, and
now I'm seeing it with Dave Canalis.

Speaker 5 (36:43):
I get it.

Speaker 12 (36:43):
Dave Canalis has made some questionable calls. But if I
go compare Bright to a vow Nick or Jade and
Daniels or Drake may or Cayleb Williams. I'm seeing them
guys overcome like certain struggles in like they they look
like they should have been a topic. I mean, I
know Kayler Willims was, but.

Speaker 5 (37:04):
I don't know.

Speaker 12 (37:04):
Bryce is like you're the number.

Speaker 7 (37:05):
One pick man.

Speaker 12 (37:06):
Everything is not gonna be handed to you. Everything is
not gonna be laid out on them flatter flatter to you.
You gotta find some ways to extend plays. And I
know we have some drop passes, but when you when
you have open grass man, you have to take it
to keep the change moving. And I'm not seeing that
from Bryce. He I feel like he gives up on

(37:27):
a lot of plays. We can say that the coaches
are calling checkdowns, how how do we know Bryce is
just throwing the check down and not waiting on players
to develop. And so with that being said, man, I'm
seeing some other quarterbacks out there that's driving and in
their systems and I don't I don't see it with Bryce.
I hate to say it, Like I said, he's a

(37:48):
good guy, but uh, that was just my question for
the fans. It's like, what trait do y'all seeing Bryce
to want to be so gun hole that he is
our franchise quarterback. I just want to know that because
I don't see it.

Speaker 2 (38:00):
I appreciate the phone call. I don't get many people
today saying that in a gung ho that he's absolutely
an elite, future, top five, super Bowl champion, franchise quarterback.
I haven't gotten much of that, but I don't think
it's unfair to say. And listen, all these guys are
open for criticism. We're all open for criticism. Dave Canallis
literally within the last hour, just admitted that he messed
up last night. Says it was a game of missed opportunities,

(38:23):
including from himself not getting the run game going. He
mentioned how good Chuba Dabell and the offensive line are
and said, quote that was a missed opportunity by me,
and I'll do better end quote. Mean, Dave Canalis just
admitted last night what we all just have been saying, Oh,
how do you run the ball nine times with your
running backs? You don't think bryce benefits from that. The
defense benefits from that because you're not putting them on

(38:44):
the field like That's what I'm talking about. You want
to be a balanced offense, then be a balance. Try
to be a balanced offense. Some days it won't work.
But they didn't even try last night to be a
balanced offense. You can't claim that when you run the
ball nine times with your backs. Carolina Mike gets the
last call? Carolina, Mike, what's going on?

Speaker 6 (39:02):
What up?

Speaker 7 (39:02):
Guys?

Speaker 13 (39:03):
Hey, I don't want to beat a dead horse. I mean,
everybody's pretty much said everything I would say. You think
that that Canais would have learned from Pete Carroll and
what happens when you get cute on the goal line.

Speaker 7 (39:18):
But you know, but you know he's he's a young coach.
He's gonna learn.

Speaker 5 (39:22):
But on the bigger picture, what.

Speaker 7 (39:24):
I want to say, and it's kind of last call.

Speaker 13 (39:26):
Stole a little my thunder, But you know, good thought
is you know, when you got quarterbacks like Josh Allen,
Cam Newton, I.

Speaker 7 (39:32):
Mean you can go down the list, Brady.

Speaker 13 (39:34):
Whoever even looks like Drake may Pat Mahomes. Those quarterbacks
they can overcome shortcomings of their team, whether it be
the run game or receivers or whatever the case may be.

Speaker 12 (39:47):
I just don't think and that.

Speaker 6 (39:48):
That's what's gonna take.

Speaker 7 (39:49):
The one in Super Bowl, because no NFL.

Speaker 13 (39:51):
Team is gonna be perfect. And I just don't think
that Bryce has that his bag, that he can elevate
a team. The only scenario that that happens is he's.

Speaker 6 (40:00):
Surrounded by all pros.

Speaker 7 (40:01):
Like at Alabama, I mean, where they're just so much
better across the board than everyone else.

Speaker 13 (40:06):
And and and that is what it's gonna take. So
while he might be a good guy and we might
progress to squeaking into the playoffs and ten wins next year,
whatever the case, isn't our ultimate goal to win a
Super Bowl. And when if that being the goal, you know,
making the playoffs, that doesn't get it done. And I
don't think he has what it takes to overcome that,

(40:29):
to to if we have a receiver go down or
he's got to pull something out that you know, to
that we've seen Josh Allen, Pat Mahomes do, he doesn't
have it. And the goal line problems, I mean, he's
got to throw these lollipops because he's so small he
can't throw down. I mean Aikman picked up on that.
And he's not gonna use his body to.

Speaker 7 (40:49):
Force himself across the goal line.

Speaker 13 (40:51):
So I mean, end of the day, he's a good guy.
He might get us to the playoffs, but I don't
think he'll ever with whatever team get us the super Bowl.
That's just the fact I.

Speaker 2 (41:02):
Appreciate you know it's a take, and you're welcome to it.
You might end up being very right about that. All right,
We got to go get us wherever you get your

Speaker 6 (41:29):
Yes?
