Speaker 1 (00:00):
Let's get into it all right now with Will Polochick,
voice of Charlotte FC, wfn Z host reporter and of
course you'll hear him Sunday with Panthers postgame here on
wfn Z. He's back with us for a Thursday conversation,
Will Pologick. How are you this week?

Speaker 2 (00:15):
I'm good, cal How are you?

Speaker 1 (00:16):
I'm good, I'm good. I'm excited. Man, football is back.
Your crew is scorching hot this week. But who's the
temporary gaffer going to be this weekend? Dean Smith can't
be there an accumulation of yellow cards, So what are
they doing this week? Who's going to step in?

Speaker 3 (00:30):
Well, it'll be it'll be a week from Saturday.

Speaker 1 (00:31):
For I'm sorry, I'm sorry, my bad.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
I apologize. I wanted to be sure I wasn't. No,
it's my apologize. I find it's my fault.

Speaker 3 (00:43):
Miles Joseph, more than like you'll be the acting coach.
There was a potential that he might have actually had
to do so during the League's Cup because, as you
may or may not remember, Dean Smith did go back
to England for the death of his father in law,
and so actually Miles Joseph is the one who ended
up doing all the pre match presser stuff. So if

(01:05):
I had to guess, it's going to be that guy.
Between him and Christian Fuchs, they'll all be kind of
working collectively together. But Miles Joseph Scott head coaching experience.
He was an interim head coach with the Portland Timbers,
so more than Cape full hands.

Speaker 2 (01:20):
I actually don't know.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
Again, we really haven't had a chance to have this
happen what actually Dean can do. Obviously, the very celebrated
inter Miami head coach Tavier Mascherano was seen during the
League's Cup basically on a cell phone, allegedly talking to
a video person, but it looked like he was actually
talking to the guy who was the acting coach after
he was sent offering the League's Cup. So a lot

(01:42):
of those clarifications I'm sure we'll get from the gap
for next week. But it is unfortunate loss for Charlotte
because the fact that not only does Dean bring a
lot of that inspiration of the table, but it seems
like a lot of times during team talks and during
the sub windows he brings the minus touch. So we'll
see just how much of an imprint impact he can
have on the proceedings. We've even made the ask about

(02:04):
whether or not.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
He wants to coming to booth or not too as well.

Speaker 3 (02:06):
So we'll see, if we'll see, if we'll see, if
he'll stop.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
By, if he wants to.

Speaker 1 (02:09):
Oh, that would be cool, that'd be really cool. Now again,
the second longest single season winning streak in MLS history.
It's now up to eight for Charlotte FC, behind only
Seattle's nine game streak back in twenty eighteen. You can
correct me if I'm wrong on that, but obviously off
this week inner Miami the following weekend, just to kind
of look ahead. You know, how realistic is nine straight?

(02:31):
What's it going to take to beat that particular squad?

Speaker 2 (02:34):
It honestly depends on which Miami we get. Do we
get the Miami.

Speaker 3 (02:38):
That you know, put out a first choice squad in
the league's Cup final, or do we get a somewhat
rotated squad. Knowing that number one, they've got a lot
of matchups with games in hand they have to negotiate,
and also the fact that the league's Cup final was
definitely marred in controversy, at least the end of which
was Martin controversy with the their forward Luis Suarez fitting

(03:00):
in the face of an assistant coach and causing a
melee that took place after the contest. Sergey Busketch was
also seen throwing a punch. We've still yet to get
a discipline yet from MLS. In terms of what they're
actually going to do, I do think it's the winnable contest.
Charlotte handled their business pretty well against Inner Miami, aside
from the fact that you know, they went down to

(03:20):
ten men and conceided air pretty unfortunate goal. I do
think though, they can play with Inner Miami, and I
think it's a situation where they are playing about as
well as anybody right now because of how well they've
played defensively and also taking the most of their chances.
Add in the fact they might very well get pet
Biel back in the lineup as well, that could be
very much a big confusion of their offense. And I

(03:41):
think too, you know, when it comes down to it,
I don't think anybody wants to play inside Bank of
America Stadium right now. They've set a single season record
for victories and quite frankly, I expect a pretty raucous
atmosphere a week from Saturday when they come to town,
Because not only when we have the Messi fans, but
I'm sure a lot of Charlotte have Sea fans too
who have been kind of wait and jump on the
bandwacken for this squad will definitely be very much appetizingly

(04:05):
waiting at the opportunity.

Speaker 2 (04:06):
To do so.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
Tim Reim has been recalled back up to the US
men's national team. I think back to when they first
acquired him and some of the excitement, but also some
of the usual Yeah, but he's over the hill. How
much does he have left in the tank? I mean,
how validating is this will he Not that they needed
a ton of validation externally, but the fact that Tim
Reim has been recalled to the US men's national team, well,

(04:28):
I think.

Speaker 3 (04:28):
They've kind of rethought what they wanted to do with
Tim Reim, because initially I think there was the thought
that he could kind of play a left back position
to allow them to get Reim, Milanda and Privot all
on the field together. Now it seems like they liked
him a lot better at that left side center back role.
Alongside of the deals to Milanda, and I think you know,

(04:49):
Andrew Privot can definitely factor in the conversation once Milana
departs for Bornemuth. So from that perspective, I'm sorry for Middlesborough,
not Born. Let's take your part for Middlesborough. But I
do think it's the situation where they definitely have loved
what they've gotten at Tim Raid. He's bought a lot
of defensive stability. His pairing with Milanda has been very,
very good, and I think too, you know, he brings

(05:09):
a lot of leadership too, because when it comes down
to it, they've had a lot of interchanging parts, particularly
that in the full back role next to Tim Raim
and the one on the opposite side of him too,
so he's kind of been that that steadying voice for
a lot of people inside that back line and also
inside that locker room. He's very great with the interconnectedness
too with Ashley West. But he's on the leadership council

(05:31):
and I do think that, you know, like you said,
I think we all had the same concerns about him.
He's going to be thirty eight here in October, but
at the same point in time, he's definitely proven that
he's a depth of the league and the US men's
national team still thinks that he's worthy of their services,
and hopefully we see him on the field for not
only representing cheryln of Stee but also representing the United
States when the World Cup comes here next summer.

Speaker 1 (05:51):
All right, from a veteran to an up and comer,
I saw your tweet yesterday and the news that the
young man with the nineteen year old kid but by
the first name bayol Aali. How do you pronounce the first.

Speaker 2 (06:01):
Name by ye kolibe, by ye Coolabali?

Speaker 1 (06:04):
All right, I don't know a ton about him. I
know he's coming up from Crown Legacy. What are the
expectations for him? How much can he help?

Speaker 3 (06:10):
So he's somebody who has kind of been on this
same track that a lot of very recent members who
have gone to Crown Legacy from overseas.

Speaker 2 (06:18):
And then come up through the ranks have been.

Speaker 3 (06:20):
You know, Nikola Pekeovic took the same route after a
very celebrated three million dollar transfer, eat On Tookloman. He
took the same route as well when he came from
Israel to Crown Legacy and then took a very big
fast track from there to the first team and They've
been a couple of very other more market names that
have come up through the ranks as well. They identified

(06:41):
Kula Bali.

Speaker 2 (06:42):
Very very early.

Speaker 3 (06:42):
There were a couple of European teams that were out
for him to try and potentially get his services when
Crown Legacy made that signing during the offseason.

Speaker 2 (06:50):
If everything goes right, Kyle.

Speaker 3 (06:52):
He's the heir apparent to Ashley Westwood and he's incredibly
a depth on the ball. He's played twenty games for
Crown Legacy this season. I think he'll still probably get
the majority of his action at the Crime Legacy level
for the rest of this campaign, but he's gonna have
an opportunity come January to really make a big imprint
on the squad, maybe even as soon as the stretch
runt of this season.

Speaker 2 (07:12):
Or even the playoffs, because they really like his calmness
on the ball. He can get forward as well.

Speaker 3 (07:18):
I almost feel like, you know, and Dee's even said this,
he's a great mix between Ashley Westwood and Bran Bronicle.
If you could put two players together. He brings a
lot of those characteristics and at only nineteen years old
wise beyond his years.

Speaker 1 (07:31):
Well Pilotchick, voice of Charlotte FC WFNZ host reporter. He's
hanging out with us for a Thursday conversation. Let's turn
our attention to Carolina on Sunday. For those that don't recall,
will typically joins us first on the field during home games.
They're in Jacksonville to start the season, though this weekend, Willie,
what are you given all the things that have happened
over the last week and a half, the shake up

(07:51):
in the wide receiver room, ikey Akwanu's appendectomy, you know,
just anything of that nature, from the start of training
camp now to on the press of the start of
the regular season. How do you feel about this team
going into Week one?

Speaker 3 (08:04):
Well, it definitely is a bit of a shakeup, and
I think that a lot of people who had significant
optimism going in, I think have a definite reason to
feel some pause. The offensive line injuries, I think is
probably the most immediate impact. Whether or not you have
that Ikyakwanu on Sunday or.

Speaker 2 (08:23):
Not is very much a big, big thing you were
hoping to have.

Speaker 3 (08:26):
I know that Dave Canalis said yesterday they're hoping to
get him out to at least run on Friday, and
then we'll see what ends up happening. But I still
think it's a pretty long shot to see him start.
Probably the young man yosh Nyman, who I know a
lot of Panther fans aren't necessarily hoping to see, but
it looks like he's probably the one who'll ends up
getting there. I think the two guard injuries too, are

(08:47):
somewhat concerning as well. I know that you know Lewis
and Hunt have both been limited in practice today, Although
you know Canalis keeps.

Speaker 2 (08:53):
Saying that Lewis remains on track to play.

Speaker 3 (08:56):
I know that Hunt took a bit of a leg
injury during practice on we so from that perspective, that's
definitely something monitor. I don't know if the wide receiver
trade of Adams Feeling is something that has what I
would call as much of an impact as much of anything.
The big big thing, though, is the loss of Jalen Coker.
I think that's something that you know, we maybe underrated

(09:17):
what Cocer could have brought to this offense after the
Feeling trade, And now you're asking a lot on Hunter
Renfro and whether or not he can get through a
full game a conditioning standpoint, that's going to be a
lot to ask for and also a big step up
from Xcel and Cedro McMillan. David Moore is the only
veteran guy on this squad when it comes to the
wide receiver room.

Speaker 2 (09:34):
So it definitely has gone from what it felt like.

Speaker 3 (09:37):
Was an embarrassment Richards for right for Bryce Young to
now you know, you're hoping that these guys step up
and make it happen. But at the end of the day,
it all comes down to whether or not Dave Canalis
puts his money where his mouth is and runs the football.
We've talked a lot about it over the course of
his tenure so far. For the Carolina Panthers, if they
can run the football effectively and often, that takes a

(09:59):
lot of pressure off Bryce Young and hopefully it gets
up to a point where they can be in a
position to win against Jacksonville.

Speaker 1 (10:04):
And again you can hear Willie Sunday following the final
horn on the postgame show here on WFNZ, So make
sure to tune in for that last thing.

Speaker 2 (10:11):
I'll let you go.

Speaker 1 (10:12):
Monday night, Primetime Labor Day All Lies on Chapel Hill.
Incredible pregame scene, great opening drive. The rest was pretty
terrible though, for Tar Hills fans and for Bill Belichick.

Speaker 2 (10:22):
What were your thoughts.

Speaker 3 (10:24):
I found it very jarring and galling, just the fact
that it did seem like that they didn't meet the moment.
Aside from that opening drive, I do think again that
it's somewhere between disaster and no panic. I think that's
kind of where I would sit here from that perspective.

Speaker 2 (10:44):
I think expecting it to have been one.

Speaker 3 (10:46):
Hundred percent up and buttoned up right off the bat
was maybe a little bit ambitious for Tar Hill fans.
I do think there will be moments during this season
where Bill Belichick will show his aptitude of not only
the game, but the college level game as well. I
don't think they're going to be objectly awful. I think
it's a situation where you can still get, you know,
somewhere in between six seven eight wins and find yourself

(11:07):
in a situation where you at least can see the
programs arrow turning up. I understand that folks are gonna
sit there and say, well, you know, if you're Bill Belichick,
you're the grace of all timership. Been able to handle
this league very very quickly. It does seem like, again
that not not just Bill Belichick handling it, but just
getting the roster drill point where it competes with some
of these more national powers. TCU is no slouch. I

(11:30):
I feel like people were looking at TCU and trying
to thumb the those up with them. They're not too
far moved from being in a college football playoff. It's
not necessarily like a you know, powder k came in
and beat them. I think this weekend against Charrette will
be a very interesting test, and I think you'll see
maybe a little bit more of that success come their
way because it does seem like they have a lot
of the guys. They have a lot of the gyms
and Joe's. It's just a matter of whether or not

(11:51):
Billchick can get more of them over the course the
next couple of years.

Speaker 1 (11:54):
All right, well, I appreciate you, buddy. Any thoughts on
Philadelphia and Dallas tonight, your two favorite teams? Who wins
that game?

Speaker 2 (11:59):
In the opener? Could they both lose? Can they both lose?
I t I take Philly, but only begrudgingly. I hear you.

Speaker 1 (12:06):
All Right, buddy, have a good evening.

Speaker 2 (12:07):
We'll talk to you soon Thank you Kaby
