Speaker 2 (00:19):
Happy Black Friday to you and yours. It is the
Kyle Bailey Show Sports Radio ninety two to seven WFNZ,
coming to you from the Chandler Volta Studios and Chandler
Volta Injury Lawyers sponsoring our building. One call that's all
Cvinjurylaw dot Com. That's Cvinjurylaw dot Com. As we get

(00:40):
you all ready for a lot of going on this weekend.
Panthers and Rams are count on the kickoff at ten
o'clock on Sunday for the Panthers and the Rams. Of course,
we also have Hornets basketball tonight on our air six
thirty pre Games, seven thirty tip time as the Hornets
take on the Chicago Bulls final Emirates NBA Cup game.
For the Hornets, who are basically eliminated from coppet or

(01:00):
contention in that competition, will find out when the two
games that they are going to play in place of
any knockout stage games will happen here and occur over here.
Of course, over the next couple of days. But as
we get ready for tonight, team has lost seven in
a row. We'll get the pulse of what's going on
in buzz Nation with our good friend Rod Boon, who

(01:20):
joins us from the Charlott Observer and joins us on
your home for the Hornet Sports Rady on ninety two
seven WFNZ.

Speaker 3 (01:26):
What's going on, Rod, Hope you had a good Thanksgiving?

Speaker 4 (01:28):
What's happened? Well? How are you doing? Man?

Speaker 3 (01:30):
That's good man, everything's good here.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
Unfortunately, nothing over at the hive is going as well
as we thought that would be four and fourteen is
the record. I understand that we all kind of looked
at this as still part of a slow build, but
I guess how much has it looked disfunctional, disconcerting, unappetizing.

Speaker 3 (01:50):
How would you characterize the start for the Hornets?

Speaker 4 (01:53):
I think all of the above you pretty much hit
on all the adjectives trying to describe what's happened with
the team right now, because you go from a two
and one start to as you mentioned, being four and fourteen.
I mean, if you can do the math for those
who are myself like a math minor, that's two and
twelve man excuse me, two, two and thirteen of your
last few games here. So it's not been very advertising

(02:17):
in terms of just thinking that you're going to have
a team that's going to be in contention for we
minimum a playing spot this year. You know, when you
have the NBA's longest playoff drought, that's going to be
a decade at this point, let things change. It just
felt like it was gonna be a little bit of
a different atmosphere this year. But over the last two

(02:38):
weeks just a raveled with injuries. As we've known, the
last couple of years has been the man Anchillies heel
and it just hasn't gone well for them, and it's
been the obviously just disappointing because you figure out this
team has enough talent to compete each night, but when
you go out there and get beat by the digits
in your you know, a cup game leading to Thanksgiving weekend,

(02:59):
it was not a good look for the Honus.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
On Wednesday, they've gotten Brandon and LaMelo back, but both
of them have been on minutes restrictions. Brandon looked good
the other night, LaMelo unfortunately has not looked good. Do
you feel like these things are becoming somewhat limiting for
getting themselves back into a flow. Or do you feel
like it's just kind of this is what the organization

(03:21):
is laid out and they have to deal with it.

Speaker 4 (03:23):
I think the main thing is it's not an excuse
because we know that your professionals. At some point you
have to go out there and just play bet at
least give effort if you don't win games. But when
you look at this roster, essentially for the outside of
the first game and quarter when b Miller was out there,

(03:44):
they haven't really been the whole other than the last
game or two. So that being the case, you have
to have practice time, You have to have time on
the court together figure out who does what best win.
And when the guys like Ben and Miller were out,
the mellow was out, it's like you had a people
step up in their place. But when those guys come

(04:05):
back and know your main stars, you have to figure
out how you know, five guys who essentially can score
the basketball, how can they all share it and be effective?
And until they figure it out, it's going to be
an issue. And right now you have to help, you know,
just just actually see it in game action because they
haven't been able to do it in practice time. At
this point in season, you're cant get much time to

(04:27):
do things off the court, so it's got to either
be in shoot around actually game actually you actually go
out there and improve yourself as so as you can
be a better team moving forward.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
LaMelo Ball has, as I mentioned, not looked the part
really at any point of this season other than very
much early before he got hurt, and then since he's
been back.

Speaker 3 (04:44):
His shooting has been inconsistent.

Speaker 2 (04:45):
He's been turning the basketball over and like we also
said just previously, he's been limited to around twenty six
twenty seven to twenty eight minutes per contest. How concerned
about his productivity are you?

Speaker 4 (04:57):
It's definitely concerning right now because he had a really
good start to the season and then he missed those
five games, came back for a game, said I look
back to back, so he makes six six games and
then a couple of weeks there. So to me, he
hasn't got his rhythm back since I'm not sure, but
there's just a health thing or just not being the
flow because you haven't had the same flow you were

(05:20):
into the preseason and training camp everything, But right now
you have to be concerned because he's, let's be honest,
he's the engine for this team. Whether or not they
win with at him, at sometime it becomes irrelevant because
when he's on the court, you have to win with
him as so as you can actually go out there
be a competitive team and be a playoff team with LaMelo.

(05:41):
So until they can show they can do that, that's
obviously a major problem. And the last five games, six
games or so since he's come back from injury, he
hasn't been himself and he had twenty points at least
just once in that stretch, which we know is about liking.
You mentioned turnovers, and then after the game, when Charles
Lewis asked about a specific you mentioned the teammate overall

(06:02):
is playing better at defense. So I think Dallas can
includes the mellow if you want to see a better
affor for him on that side of the court. Until
you get that going forward from everybody, the Hornets aren't
going to win games.

Speaker 2 (06:12):
And in the seventeen he's played, at least, when it
comes down to it, sixteen games he's played, he's only
had twenty or more in five of his opportunities. So
from that's percent from these eleven games, I should say
he's played. He's only gone over twenty points in those
six opportunities in that regard, so definitely not what we
are used to seeing from LaMelo ball. Start with Rod

(06:34):
Boone from the Charlotte Observer. Of course, we're a week
or move Rod from all the kerfluffles, surrounded by the
kellieco report and obviously the quashing by not only LaMelo
but by Charles Lee of anything involving that report being
somewhat true. But it does happen to at least perpetuate
a larger discussion surrounding Lamelow do you believe that his

(06:56):
future is still tied to the Hornet's long term or
do you feel like they're looking for a way out.

Speaker 4 (07:02):
I don't think anybody has tied for the Honer's long term,
other than maybe a couple of players like maybe Brendan
Miller in some regard. Because LaMelo, the Hornets obviously in him.
I think they wanted it to work. I think the
Melo wants to be here. I don't think he really
wants to go anywhere. I'll be honest with you, I'm
not sure his regard of why he would want to
because you know, I think this market for him is

(07:23):
kind of like what he enjoys, what he likes. So
they have to get to be able to work. And
when you have your highest paid player and he's not
able to get you to the promised land, per se,
you have to be able to have a discussion with
yourself honestly and figure out the best move for both
sides is to move on. So we'll see if it happens.

(07:45):
I think in this business cover as long as I have,
I have never never say never, because even you think
somebody can get traded aka Luca, they still are moved.
So with LaMelo, I don't think they're trying to act
get him out of here tomorrow. But then if things
keep going in this direction, at some point you got
to look at both sides and say, what's the best

(08:05):
long term move for us is to try for one
more year? Was the part ways and until the Wholeness
actually have the team healthy on the court for a
number of games, they don't have the real true answer
about how this team should be built moving forward. If
LaMelo is the guy, you.

Speaker 3 (08:20):
Don't think Charles Lee's in trouble, do you.

Speaker 4 (08:22):
I don't think so, man. I think I see stuff
out there on social media about people saying fired Charles
Lee and he should be out of here. I mean,
you got to really think about that from a perspective.
This new ownership group bought in Jeff Peterson to run
the organization, and they, in concert with Jeff Peterson, bought
in Charles Lee. So you're not just going to all

(08:44):
of a sudden say, after a year and change, hey,
this guy ain't the man for the team anymore. He's
out of here. That's not happening. Man. They as ownership
and as new you know, president of basketball operations, they
essentially saying he's our guy. So so to me, Charles
Lee is not going anywhere. He's at least have been
another year minimum, in my mind, to kind of figure

(09:05):
out how to get it going in the right direction
and then maybe kind of say, okay to get to
the next level. Is he the guy we need leading
our team? But right now I don't see him going
anywhere because these guys are joined at the hit. He's
known Jeff Peterson for a while and they talk about
how they're aligned all the time. I don't see Jeff,
you know Chrunkley being in trouble at all.

Speaker 2 (09:25):
Rob boon CHERLD observed joining us here on Sports Reready
on ninety two seven WFNZ. I want to ask you
about the front court because I think we saw basically
in the game against the next this was a matchup
nightmare for them. They ended up going a lot of
the match up with you know, some of the four
starters and see on look and kind of going without
a big after Musa got foul trouble, and obviously they

(09:48):
didn't want to completely push Kalkbrenner out there, you know,
first game back after the ankle injury, So it was
something where they didn't want to go further into the
bench and tax Mason. Which makes me ask you, you know,
where do you feel like maybe their trust is a
cal Brenner because it seems like after a good start,
it's gotta tapered off a little bit.

Speaker 4 (10:06):
Well, he's a rookie, you gotta remember that. I mean,
just eighty one games and he's still trying to figure
out how to play back to back. So I spoke
to him a couple of days ago just about it,
and just these are the kind of things as a
rookie you trying to figure out when you come from college,
just a really different game. God, the more physical, whether
there's you're when you're college or high school. Maybe you're
just better than a guy who you're guarding up against

(10:28):
and going up against. So if you're better than him,
you're gonna go out there and just dominate without even trying,
maybe as hard as you have to. In the pros,
it's different. Everybody as good as you are, not better,
and nine time out of ten, you're gonna have nights
where you struggle and maybe you're shot or something is
going the right way. You got to figure out how
to still help the team. So I'm not really worried
about Ryan. I still think the long term is fine

(10:49):
for this team. He's just a rookie, man, you gotta
remember that, and he's playing a lot of minutes. He's
also being after a lot of stuff for team. That's
again being banged up. If the team was healthy as normal,
number five option minimum. But when you have to go
out there and do more things because you know you
miss him too, your top guys, that's when you see

(11:11):
rookie mistakes and rookie flaw So I'm not worried about
Ryan whatsoever. The team is still confident in him. I
think anything else, he's just again playing a lot of
minutes and just a rookie.

Speaker 2 (11:20):
I feel like I'm the last person in town who
stands for Miles Bridges on court basketball prowess because more
than you mentioned social media, I feel like people are
wanting Miles Bridges out of town yesterday for various reasons.
Do you feel like his long I went in long
term viability Maybe isn't the right way to phrase this,
but do you feel like he still has a presence

(11:42):
on this team that is valuable?

Speaker 4 (11:44):
I do personally because I'm like you, you know, I
see obviously as well sometime the groundswell of people saying,
you know that Miles isn't this, Miles of this and
Miles of that, and he shouldn't be heated game off
my team. It's like, it's crazy to me because he's
one of a few people I've heard in my eight
years covers team who says repeatedly, I don't want to

(12:08):
go anywhere, like, why would you want to get rid
of somebody who's a consistent? Essentially, it could be a
third or fourth option. We've got to be number one
or two guy on a team. He's gonna struggle because
he's playing a power forward spot against people that usually
are better than him. Not time out of ten, he's
got to regarded our team's best player sometimes. So I
think Miles is fine. To me, he's part of the

(12:31):
people you want here because you want people to actually
again be in a certain spot to show that you
want to get this thing going in the right direction.
So I'm with you. Maybe we're just one of the
last two guys left because we've been on our team
for a while, But I think Miles still has value
on this team. It's just more about again has to

(12:52):
be in the right spot. You can't. I think it's
that one thing about basketball is it's almost in those
sports where you can't have guys move up a seat
all the time a you're going to actually win and
be a good team because the number one, two and
three and four guys are there for a reason. The
number six seven guys gotta be the number one, two
and three and four, you're gonna have problems, man. So

(13:14):
to me, that's part of the thing also with Miles
is if he's in this normal slot, be like the third, fourth,
fifth option out there. He's fine, just don't have him
try to do too much. And that's when it become
a little bit of a there's she read time.

Speaker 2 (13:25):
I'll ask you this one on the way out because
of the fact that I feel like I have to
ask you a continental question that's legally required when it
comes to talking to the Hornets now. But but what
seat do you feel like he occupies and how many
more seats do you feel like he can go up
based on his rookie performance.

Speaker 4 (13:41):
Well, from my perspective, again, I don't have time to
watch everybody play, so I don't have a really good
feel for all the rookies of the entire class, just
from the top few guys I've seen. From what I've
seen obviously from the guys leaving the team and scoring
almost every night, it feels like and that what's not
supposed to be the case. We just talked to about that.
In my mind, his seat is like number two or

(14:04):
three on the team, like at the highest level when
you have Lamello and Brendan Miller out there, So when
those guys are hurt and he's playing the level he
is when Brendon Miller and Lamello can get healthy, maybe
get back to the level they were at the first
three games of the season. If you have come out
there scoring twenty plus points a game, to me, the

(14:26):
guy is rookie of the year, you know. Right now,
I have him as my number one rookie of the
year in terms of the bowling because I just I
get a little bit biased right now. I don't usually
go that route because I see guys all the time,
but from what I've seen from him, he's really really productive.
I think that the Hornts have a really good fine
at him. You know. They sometimes in these drafts you

(14:48):
wish that you got the number one, two, three, four player,
number five, maybebe one of the top three of this
class when it's all said done, if not top two.
So the Hornets have a pretty good gym Konker Nipple,
and it's up to them to make sure that they
just keep having going the right direction in terms of
developing the right way and as sure that he's not
trying to do too much out there in the basketball court.

Speaker 2 (15:08):
Seven thirty to night, Hornets and the Bulls final NBA
Cup game for Charlotte. We are on the air at
six thirty with the coverage there, Rod Boone, I know
you have some family in town. I know you want
to get us some more more time with them. Appreciate
you squeezing it's mints with us, man. Appreciate you. I'll
see you later.

Speaker 4 (15:22):
You gott it will any time, buddy.

Speaker 2 (15:24):
That is Rob Boone joining us here talking hornets, planning
to react to there, which we'll do and also give
you the best audio in sports. Next on what did
you say? This is the Kyle Bailey Show, Sports Readio
ninety two seven WFNZ Sports Radio ninety two to seven WUFN.

(15:50):
See a lot to react to from Rod's discussion, and
already have one from our friend Hermer Photography.

Speaker 3 (15:54):
He says, I.

Speaker 2 (15:55):
Disagree with Rod, believe the trade and LaMelo okay, okay,
Herber photography. Any context behind why I don't think you're
doing it this year because I just think it's gonna
be too hard to move thirty seven million dollars will
and nilly like that.

Speaker 5 (16:12):
I didn't say willy nilly because you're here, but I
it's just a phrasing. But thank you very much, archer.

Speaker 3 (16:19):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (16:20):
But I am of the belief that we're getting closer
and closer to it becoming a formality. I think the
earliest it will happen will be this off season. Is
the off season, and I could see it happening during
the off season. I just don't think at this point
it's going to happen during any time you're playing basketball games.

Speaker 2 (16:37):
The only way I see it happening during the year
is if this is the pace that we're looking at,
if he's still playing like this, and not even not
even him, I'm just saying the team if if I
think we all can be reasonable and say this team
is a better team than a four and fourteen, Like,

(16:59):
if you extrapolate that over the course of a whole
season and they win something in the neighborhood of twenty
games again again, then we're in probably that territory. I
don't I think they are a better team than four
and fourteen. Do I think they are a forty one
and forty one team?

Speaker 3 (17:17):
No?

Speaker 5 (17:18):
Do I think they're a thirty win team at this point.
Now they'd have to get better.

Speaker 2 (17:23):
They have to get significantly better, and you need, like
Grant Williams back tomorrow in order to do that.

Speaker 5 (17:28):
And unfortunately, I think some people have kind of forgotten
because I saw it got posted a week ago, so
like it's been a year now since Williams towards ACL Well.

Speaker 3 (17:36):
The problem is, it wasn't just a torn ac is everything.
It was so the whole thing.

Speaker 5 (17:40):
Yeah, they're not full tear of everything, but it was
like certain other parts had partial tears or stuff like that.

Speaker 2 (17:45):
I saw him at he was an FC game, and
again I'm not trying to give you anything. It's his business,
you know. But I basically came to the realization that
December was going to be the what I would say
it was the most optimistic expectation on him based on

(18:08):
everything that was based on the vibe, if you will.
So I ever won't was saying, oh, he he can
be back on the floor, and I'm like, Nope, not
believing it.

Speaker 5 (18:19):
I will.

Speaker 2 (18:20):
I will believe it when I hear him say that
he is fully cleared in basketball activity.

Speaker 3 (18:25):
Is that he's coming back. Yeah. And here's the thing too.

Speaker 5 (18:28):
While I don't think LaMelo is getting traded dear in
the deadline, I don't think the same could be said
for Miles Well getting traded this deadline. He's the part
of the reason is because the contract very movable.

Speaker 3 (18:41):
Yes.

Speaker 5 (18:42):
Second part of that is all the same problems have
been persisting over the last five to seven years.

Speaker 3 (18:46):
Who's been there the longest.

Speaker 2 (18:49):
The only thing that I would say, and again this
is again I mentioned it was Rod. The reason why
I stand up for Miles is on the court stuff. Again,
I understand people have reservations based on.

Speaker 5 (19:01):
You mean the amount of idiotic shots he's taken in
clutch times, you mean the amount of defensive laps as
he's had, even though he considers himself a good defender.

Speaker 2 (19:07):
I mean the fact that literally everybody on this roster
has found their way out of the injury injury list
except him. He has been out there and there are
times where he has to put up twenty on a
night when nobody else can.

Speaker 5 (19:18):
Just because he does that doesn't mean he's a really
good player that you should still keep not saying that
he's a good player. It's more about, like Rod said,
if he is the fourth option on your starting five,
it's a damn good fourth option. I'm not asking him
to be two, I'm not asking to be three, and
I'm definitely not asking him to be one. And if
he goes anywhere else, he's probably going to be at

(19:41):
that level or lower. But if he is your fourth option,
you can't. You can't get that back in a train.
You're not getting that back end. But he doesn't play
well as a fourth option. He's not as efficient when
he's out there as the fourth option. He's only playing
well when he's the first or second option, and even
then he's not as efficient as you need him to
be in that situation.

Speaker 2 (20:00):
I think that he has not gotten a lot of
opportunity to be that option because his organization has not
been fully healthy for a long enough time to give
you a realistic example size.

Speaker 3 (20:10):
That's personally where I sit.

Speaker 2 (20:12):
And again I'm not saying that he automatically needs to
be here in perpetuity till Kingdom come. But I also
think that a lot of the shade that he gets
is very much like what Rodd said. He's being asked
to do more than they planned on him doing because
of other people not being there. That's the problem, Like honestly,

(20:35):
with them healthy, with with with this entire team healthy,
see nobody's on the injured list.

Speaker 3 (20:40):
I start Grant Williams over him at the four.

Speaker 5 (20:43):
I think that's fair, so great Williams can strictly guard
for us, but Miles is the situation where he's too
small or too is not as quick enough to be
Garden three, but he's also too small to be guarded.

Speaker 2 (20:55):
And you know, we're having this much confronation over somebody
who'd be your six seven man named your rotation. No,
but again, I think that I think it lengthens everybody.
It's it lengthens the rotation. But because of the current
situation being what it is, he's having to play a
role that I think is larger than what they envisioned
him for. It's not for the best audio in sports

(21:16):
with what did you say?

Speaker 3 (21:17):
What did you say? You what? What did you say?
Wait a minute, so may way what I mean by
that is all right, Willie?

Speaker 5 (21:29):
Well, the egg ball has come and past came and went,
and the old miss Rebels one yet again keeping Diegbol trophy.
They went thirty eight nineteen. But that's not what people
are talking about on this rivaly game. It's the fact
that that could have been lank Kiffen's last game could
have been. Yeah, it could have been. And afterwards Taylor
McGregor tried to get the answer of the Year from
Lane this week you had not made up your mind

(21:52):
as to what you would be doing next season at
this point, have you made up your mind?

Speaker 3 (21:57):
No, I haven't.

Speaker 6 (21:57):
I got a lot of praying to do to figure
that out tomorrow. But right now, and I'm just going
to go enjoy these players. I told him last night,
You're going in your eleventh game and all I want
to do is experience joy watching you, and that's what
I'm about to do.

Speaker 4 (22:09):
Are you experiencing that joy right now? I am?

Speaker 3 (22:11):
Thank you, coach.

Speaker 2 (22:16):
So that that was the most meh answer we could
have gotten from Lane Kiffin on That.

Speaker 3 (22:23):
Wasn't boilerplate, but it was right above boilerplate.

Speaker 2 (22:27):
Deflect or, as they say in the government, went in
doubt delay. Although I did see him walk off the
field with his hand wrapped around the chancellor, which has
made people make a lot of conclusions.

Speaker 3 (22:44):
Again, this is also just to update you.

Speaker 2 (22:46):
If you just joining us and have been in a
trip to fanic haze over the last day or so,
we wouldn't blame you for doing so. Florida apparently is
out of this discussion. According to multiple media outlets and reports,
Chris Lowe had it think a bunch of others had
at forty et cetera. It's basically down to stay at
Whole miss or go to LSU. In about ten twelve minutes,

(23:09):
I want to outline to you why I don't think
going to LSU is necessarily the right move for him,
even though I feel like, if you had to, you know,
put a gun into my head, please don't do that.
But if you were to do that, I would say,
probably goes to LSU because more of a personality fit
there for him, I would think.

Speaker 5 (23:28):
Well, now moving on to the coaching carousel, if you
do not get Lane Kiffin Lane Kiffin, one of the
one of the consolation prizes, because a lot of coaches
have already signed new contracts thanks to your new opening,
is Tulane head coach John summer all In recently, just
earlier this week, he was only spill your Guts type
of interview at Hooters in New Orleans. By the way,

(23:51):
Hooter's waitress was interviewing him and this is one of
the most college football things in the South ever into
it and John Thorral got a little TEMI to just
question and answer spill your guts with the Hooters waitress.

Speaker 3 (24:04):
The injury tent.

Speaker 7 (24:06):
They put it up for guys to go in, like
sometimes you go in there to use the bathroom to
take a leak, you know. So I actually had to
do that twenty twenty three. I was coaching the conference
championship game.

Speaker 3 (24:17):
Fourth quarter, we were about to.

Speaker 7 (24:19):
Win the game. I knew I was gonna have to
do a trophy celebration and I turned around to my
ops guy, I'm like, hey, can you get the injury
tent up?

Speaker 3 (24:26):
And he's like, what's up? Only I gotta go to
the bathroom.

Speaker 2 (24:29):
That sounds right, they do they There was somebody somebody
put this up on social media within the last week
or so, with people holding the towel up for guys
to go to the bathroom.

Speaker 5 (24:42):
Did Mark Sanchez have one of those infamous cases one time?

Speaker 3 (24:45):
Or was the kicker for the Jets at the time.

Speaker 2 (24:47):
It was a kicker A well, the thing that happened
with Sanchez and he got caught in the hot dog. Yeah,
he got caught in the hot dog, which again they
have those in the in the locker room for you,
and he just happened to bring it out and people
uh use that to impugne him. I would I would
add parenthetically prematurely. You can definitely get on mark for

(25:08):
what has happened since then, or at least what's happened
here very very recently. But that particular that that particular hubbub.

Speaker 3 (25:17):
Was maybe a little bit too much for him.

Speaker 2 (25:20):
But yeah, I that doesn't shock me that that some
people would do that for the injury.

Speaker 3 (25:25):
Tent wouldn't do that on.

Speaker 5 (25:27):
Turf though, not gonna it's not gonna help the turf
any No, no, it's not.

Speaker 3 (25:36):
Bernalize. I'll leave it at that. I'll leave it at that.

Speaker 5 (25:40):
All right, Well, let's get off this turf conversation and
uh this number one conversation, move on to Dave Canalis
or what in my bootem hopefully he doesn't have to
use Let me get off of it anyway. So the
Panthers are injured, Yeah, the Panthers are injured to helen back, right,
at least you're not asking me about uh, Chicago Bears quarterbacks.

Speaker 3 (25:59):
Yeah, and.

Speaker 2 (26:03):
Eric Kramer if anyway, I was talking about the I
was talking about my slip up with you a couple
of years back.

Speaker 3 (26:10):
Oh yeah, that one, that one, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
it didn't work out. If you know you know, yeah, anyway, So.

Speaker 5 (26:18):
It's going to be a skeleton cur yet again at
offensive line, specifically in the interior. Austin Corbett's going to
be starting at center once again, but it's not going
to be Chandler's of Alla at right guard.

Speaker 3 (26:27):
It's going to be Jake Kerrhan.

Speaker 5 (26:29):
We actually did get to see a little bit during
Monday's loss against the Niners and against the Green Bay
Packers when Carolina won and Chandler's of all I got
hurt on the first drive. And earlier today, Dave Canals
was asked about what Jake Kerhan brings to the table.

Speaker 8 (26:44):
Generally, Jake is a really intelligent guy and understands our schemes,
what we're trying to get done. He's got a lot
of experience, so different fronts, different types of movement, he's
used to those things. And then on top of that,
he's massive. He is a big man, and he's got
great power in the run game. In the past game,
you know, he just he sets tight and uses his hands,

(27:06):
And that's what I've known about Jake for a long
time now, you know, whether it was tackle or guard,
just his ability to process the game and make the
adjustments that are that are required during the middle of
the game. So I trust Jake a lot. I'm glad
he's here and he's got a great opportunity this week.

Speaker 2 (27:22):
Him being a big man is not an exaggeration from
from Canallas six six three sixteen. Well, apparently he was
a He was a tackle, then moved inside based on
his size when he ended up doing so. Obviously started
and played his college football at CAL Seattle, Chicago, Arizona.

(27:46):
Arizona was only practice squad but found his way here
middle of the year. The Green Bay game was I
think the real eye opening opportunity for him because he
came in and really did a job in a game
where the Panther offensive line was very much threadbare as
it is currently. And again, I think a lot of
people were out on Chandler Zavalla over the course of

(28:08):
this season. I hate that it took injury to Savala
to get Kerrhan this opportunity, but I don't think they
lose as much going from Zavala to Kerrhan as they've
had with some of these other situations. I do worry
about Corbett at center because Corbett at center has been
a mixed bag and that's being kind to Austin. It's

(28:29):
been unfortunate. He's he's not looked like the same dude
coming off the injury. He just hasn't even I thought
it was very very telling that at the beginning of
the year, after he got hurt and cade Mays took
that spot. I found it very evident that they did
not give that spot back to Corbett when he got
himself back healthy, because they were that confident in kaid May's.
I think cade May's is the more significant loss than

(28:50):
Zavalla for this game. Granted, it could be something where
the entire loss of both of those guys is felt
in the collective. Because we talked about earlier, it does
feel like the way that Dave Canallys has called plays
has made it very informative that he does not trust
the interior portion of his offensive line at the present.

Speaker 5 (29:09):
All right, and keeping things with Dave Canalsis was a
little bit more lighthearted. This is a game against a
team from around his area, the Los Angeles Rams, and
he was asked by Darren Gant about his childhood and
if he actually grew up a Rams fan.

Speaker 9 (29:24):
I do.

Speaker 8 (29:24):
I was a Rams fan. When you know back in
the day, and so you kind of have to pick.
You're in LA, are you gonna be a Raiders fan
or a Rams fan. I was a Rams fan fan
at the time. That was Jim Everett, you know, and
it was that whole crew. So I remember them leaving
and I remember just being so pissed, and you know,
at the time, Dan Reno was my favorite player. So

(29:44):
once the Rams left LA, you know, I was like,
all right, well, i think I'm a Dolphins fan now
because I'm always following Dan and so there was a
little back and forth. But to get the Rams back
in La mint a lot, I'm sure for the community
and all the people that were still rocking their Rams stuff,
you know, for my whole childhood. So you know, I
don't know that was what that was before Bryce, So
he probably didn't remember that.

Speaker 3 (30:05):
Surprised he didn't say check that Chris Everett. Yeah, I did.

Speaker 5 (30:08):
Took Darren Gain probably everything in his power not to say,
don't you mean don't you mean Chris Everett?

Speaker 3 (30:13):
There? Dave another one.

Speaker 2 (30:18):
That's another one of those, if you know, you know,
that's probably one that for a certain age group, they
don't remember that moment.

Speaker 5 (30:24):
I wasn't even alive when that happened. Really, ninety four
ninety five was when that happened. I keep forgetting how
that was ESPN. Yeah, it was ESPN's that was that
was the old Deuce. Yeah, that was before. That was
even before he it was right when he got picked
up by the Saints, or when he was still with
the Rams, like last year with the Rams.

Speaker 3 (30:44):
What a crazy thing.

Speaker 2 (30:47):
And and again who knew that people actually cared about
the Rams leaving Los Angeles? We found the guy, we
found we found again that whole Rams saga, and.

Speaker 5 (31:00):
I specifically once you get into the eighties onwards. Even
the crazy thing was they actually had good teams.

Speaker 3 (31:05):
M hmm. They were really good.

Speaker 5 (31:06):
They made the NFC Championship game. And again they moved
to Anaheim and that killed ye, that killed them. That
not given Eric the extension, given him to carrot cake
and he's allergic to carrot cake. When he passed Walter
Payton's record or no, was it Walter Payton's record? Yes, yes,
okay it was. And then I of course, you know me,

(31:28):
I know a lot of people from the Saint Louis area.
They have their own thoughts about the Rams. Leaving there
and going out to La about what with what with
what Kronkey did because they obviously could not draw there either.
So it's it's it's been them.

Speaker 2 (31:41):
It's been the most passed around franchise over the course of.

Speaker 5 (31:45):
They went into the most two of the most passed
around cities of all time.

Speaker 3 (31:49):
And it comes to football teams. I mean.

Speaker 2 (31:52):
Happened also with the old Chicago Cardinals and then the
Saint Louis Cardinals, and then and then the Phoenix Cardinals
and they are.

Speaker 5 (31:58):
You even talk about the Saint Louis Cardinals move anymore
or they still is it just it's all it's all
wrapped into the whole collective, okay, fabric of that city
because they they feel aggrieved. Sonny, you said have saying
little Neil Lomax back in the day that was a quarterback.
Oh well, there's one guy. They always used to talk
about him. I'm blanking on who it is, but similar

(32:18):
sim no uh from the old from the old football
Cardinals days. But I'm I'm blanking on the name. And
that is what did you say? Best audio and sports
down time for smoke.

Speaker 3 (32:27):
On the headlines? Who is smoked? Where is smoke? Where
there's smoke, there's fire. Let's go all right.

Speaker 5 (32:37):
Here is your acc college football injury report, brought to
you by the fine folks at the Eugenics were all
you have to lose is the pain. One of the
big games this weekend involves two ranked teams between Miami
and Pitt. David Blade, Junior, a defensive lineman, is questionable
for the Canes. On Pitt's side, Desmond Reid, running back

(32:57):
is questionable. He did not play last week against George.
He didn't need him for that game, but they might
need him for tomorrow's game. And then on the other side,
we have the North Carolina tar.

Speaker 3 (33:07):
Hills taking on NC State.

Speaker 5 (33:09):
Teddy Hoffman, star wide receiver, is questionable for tomorrow's game
for the wolf Pack, that game is in Raleigh, and
with a win, Dave Dorn wins five in a row
against the North Carolina Tar Heels. Willie, do you think
he gets to five in a row?

Speaker 4 (33:25):
Huh?

Speaker 3 (33:26):
This is difficult because.

Speaker 2 (33:29):
As much as I want to think so, I feel
like there's still more of a there's still more of
an upward arrow on what the Tar Hills have done.

Speaker 3 (33:39):
Still more of an upward going with the Tar Hills
after the last two weeks.

Speaker 2 (33:42):
I know, but I think if there is a game
that he could hype them up for, Dorian can make
it happen for this game.

Speaker 3 (33:51):
But I just I don't know.

Speaker 2 (33:53):
Maybe maybe I just hang around too many tar Heels
to have them convinced in me that they're gonna win
that game.

Speaker 5 (33:57):
I think you have been, Yes, I don't. I don't
even think Piddie and Flounder are that confident. Well, I
think they both they both just want to see fire.

Speaker 3 (34:05):
And Brimstone happened. I think too, because that would be
the right decision exactly.

Speaker 5 (34:09):
Dan Dierdorf is always taking oh yeah yeah, and or
Roger Worley because I.

Speaker 3 (34:17):
Thought you were talking about a quarterback. Dan Deirgold didn't
like quarterback.

Speaker 5 (34:20):
I know he didn't. I wasn't talking about a quarterback.
I was just talking about just vibes and Deardorf is
a badass very much.

Speaker 2 (34:28):
So we'll come back and get back into the college
football lay watches on ACC is incredibly intriguing this weekend,
and also get into what's going on in the clean
old fashioned Hate Game and some of the other games
going on across this weekend of college football on Sports
Radio ninety seven w FNZ.

Speaker 9 (34:55):
Sety get on your beat, Hello, good protection. Twelves of
the years, good brow can he.

Speaker 5 (35:07):
Got to the buck. He's gotta go, coming on the
side by side of the canty back to us, running
into the area.

Speaker 3 (35:13):
It'll pass toward Pete.

Speaker 1 (35:16):
Opprights for pelt.

Speaker 2 (35:19):
Down and it's time to tell you who bawled out
courtesy had the biggest ball of all.

Speaker 3 (35:35):
Thomas L.

Speaker 5 (35:36):
Rod of hiph Pformance real Estate. That's Hiphform's real estate
dot com. That's Highforms real Estate dot Com. And he
will see you at the closing table. Well, Willie, you
knew who saw the closing table last night? That was
one Cameron Boozer thirty five points thirteen of eighteen for
in the field, including two three pointers made, nine rebounds
and three assists as that performance helped Duke beat Arkansas

(35:59):
eighty to seven TV one And what was John Shire's
first game coaching in Chicago since becoming head coach at Duke.

Speaker 3 (36:05):
Im gonna go with Joe Burrow.

Speaker 2 (36:07):
Two sixty one, two touchdowns coming back off a turf toe.
That's a tough, tough injury to have to come back from.
Uh I found it interesting too that they were talking
to Alyssa Stark was basically saying how he thought it
was nothing more than a bone bruise. Turf tow is
not fun, folks. I know people who have gone through it.
It's not great, and especially doing it as a quarterback

(36:29):
on your plant leg, not not easy to do. And
he ends up getting back and wins a tough, tough
game on the road to beat a Ravens team inside
the Division thirty two fourteen as they get themselves the
victory on Thanksgiving evening, even though he maybe squirmed a
little bit at the uh at the Crabs and Cincinnati

(36:49):
chili that was offered the him post game because he
didn't get the turculate unfortunately.

Speaker 3 (36:55):
Is it bad that.

Speaker 2 (36:58):
I am I am not going to put myself I'm
not going to step in it right now. But is
it bad that I am getting to the point where
we are adults maybe maybe, just maybe we try something
else other than turkey on Thanksgiving? Is it bad that
I'm getting to that point.

Speaker 3 (37:15):
In my life?

Speaker 5 (37:17):
I Mean, I don't hate people that have that fault process,
but I'm also not fully against turkey, like I'll have
more ham huh. But I don't hate turkey by any
stretch of the imagination. Here's here's my problem with turkey.
It's the work for a mid meat. To get a
mid meat to taste somewhat good.

Speaker 3 (37:36):
I can do it.

Speaker 2 (37:37):
It probably requires more butter and garlic and seasoning than
I'm willing to want to have.

Speaker 3 (37:42):
To go through in a given day, but I can
do it. And we did it. We had been a
very nice turkey yesterday. But I even I even just
for the first times as a thirty eight year old.

Speaker 2 (37:53):
Even Florida this out to my dad yesterday and I said,
you know what, it suck if we just made a
standing rib roast instead or a prime ary. And he's like,
you know, I wouldn't hate it because as the thing,
not only is turkey a lot of work for a
mid meat, but it gets really messy in the kitchen.

(38:13):
Like it even my my wife, who I you know,
very very tolerant when it comes to things. Let's just
let's just say as as as Tom was making the
rounds around the kitchen yesterday, it was it was it
was making a it was having a toll.

Speaker 3 (38:35):
It was having a toll on her.

Speaker 2 (38:36):
So from that perspective, It's like, you know what, I
could very easily just get a standing rib roast, either
throw it in the oven or throw it on the
smoker and be none the wiser. We can do all
the same side. We can do stuff, and we can
do all kinds of can we can do all kinds
of stuff with it. But at the same point in time,
if you're asking me, would I rather have a red
meat or a white meat, unless that white meat is pork,

(38:59):
give me the red all sending me a bad person?
That ain't me a bad American? Kay Town Steve Turkey
is mid. I fried three of them in the deep
fry yesterday at a fried two hole chickens and ate
chicken dexter Goes prime ribbon Jambalaia at my house. Where's
my invite? I love Jambalaya. Dom Capers to pay, Willie p.

(39:21):
You are really really dom Capers to pay?

Speaker 3 (39:25):
Brian Goes. I had cornish game hens for Thanksgiving yesterday.
It was delicious. There you go?

Speaker 9 (39:30):
Uh?

Speaker 5 (39:31):
No, d not Tom. I was talking about Tom Turkey.
Did you see the uh? Did you see the shot?

Speaker 3 (39:38):
A little girl?

Speaker 4 (39:38):
You did?

Speaker 3 (39:39):
You didn't watch? There? Are you a Macy's Parade person?

Speaker 5 (39:41):
Not since I hit puberty. No, that's not nice first off,
but no, I don't care. Al Roker was giving, uh.

Speaker 2 (39:50):
Gave this little girl a golden ticket to see the Rockets,
to see the Radio City Rockets.

Speaker 3 (39:56):
You did see you do you see this?

Speaker 2 (39:58):
And the girl a little we're all innocent cute as
the button says, oh we did that yesterday. Kids say
the darndest things on NBC, and I just said, I'm
just like, we could not have planned that out a
little better producer NBC, and Al took it and stride.

Speaker 3 (40:17):
He's like, well, you get to do it again.

Speaker 5 (40:20):
And as someone who has seen the Radio City Rockets before,
let me tell you you're not going to get more
out of it the second time than you do the
first time.

Speaker 2 (40:28):
Put it in put it that way. Uh oh, this
guy gave me a jumble eye recipe. I've actually this
guy on Facebook Southern Boys does like these big, like
thirty gallon jumble eyes those things.

Speaker 3 (40:44):
That's a little bit a little bit too much for me.

Speaker 2 (40:46):
Uh, Matt gieburro Goes, I've been at that point for years,
have gone with Low Country Boil the last couple of years.

Speaker 3 (40:53):
Now that that's fun, try help Willipee.

Speaker 2 (40:57):
The secret the Great Turkey and Ham Thanksgiving Christmas is
the bron and you got to Brian the me for
twenty four to forty hours. We actually went This is
not a paid ad. We actually went to the New
York butcher shop and they brianed it forrests.

Speaker 3 (41:08):
So there you go.

Speaker 2 (41:09):
And I still put about three sticks of butter on
it with parsley and garlic and stuffed it and all
that stuff. Stuffing came out incredible everything else. Again, Turkey's
has been meat. Final week into the collegeable regular season.

Speaker 3 (41:23):
Again.

Speaker 2 (41:23):
We talked about delayed and stuff earlier. I think he's
going to LSU. I don't want him to go to
LSU if it's me, I stay at Ole miss personally,
because I want those schools to be punished for doing
the thing that they're doing. I found it interesting William
qawkin Bush, who hosts Radio nine CLEMPS and said something

(41:44):
very profound. We are in a point in time in
college football where Indiana, Vanderbilt, and Missouri have all given
them their I've all given their sitting head coaches extensions
in a cycle where LSU, Penn State, Florida, and.

Speaker 3 (42:00):
Auburn are all over are all open.

Speaker 2 (42:01):
I should say, we are not the same college football,
and I think people are realizing you can literally win
anywhere in the nil era of college football if you
have the money and if you have the buy in
from your ethic department.

Speaker 3 (42:19):
So there you go. Well this is interesting.

Speaker 4 (42:23):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (42:23):
Uh this he was walking off the field. You just
sent me something interesting.

Speaker 4 (42:28):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (42:29):
This apparently happened with lang Kiffin walking off the field.
This is in response to what an Old Miss beat
writer wrote about us or said earlier in the week.
Ben Garrett, who covers Old Miss for Awn three Sports,
He referred to just to put it in the sec
friendly way, as a garden, a certain garden equipment that

(42:53):
you use. He called him the male equivalent of a
working person. He called him a working person.

Speaker 2 (42:58):
Yes, and he said, we'll say he well, we'll use
the word friendly. We'll say he's been overly friendly, flirtatious. Well,
and lin Kiffin said, you want to call walk in
and call me a working person. We'll see how it goes.

Speaker 3 (43:15):
Interesting. I mean only in college football, man, I mean,
here's the thing.

Speaker 2 (43:23):
Am I gonna sit here and tell you that I
didn't find it somewhat perturbing that the coach of the
team that I rooted for maybe let this go on
a little bit longer than I wanted to. Yeah, but
if it ended up the way that it did, I'm okay.
But at the same but at the same point in time,
I'm very much like like that guy where it's like, Hey,

(43:44):
if I'm an old miss fan, I kind of feel
like I've been messed around with a little bit.

Speaker 5 (43:47):
Does that?

Speaker 3 (43:47):
Does that not? Does that not jive? Yeah?

Speaker 5 (43:50):
A little bit, especially considering it's happened to the school before,
Like we mentioned Tovererville and in the Box and all
that stuff, and he said he wouldn't leave until at
least he also left in conference too, And even then,
I think this would be bigger than by about ten tenfold.
I know, Tommy, you know they are now claiming the
national title.

Speaker 9 (44:11):
No.

Speaker 4 (44:11):
Four.

Speaker 5 (44:12):
I mean that's that That's a problem to BCS is
that Auburn never got to play for that Natty.

Speaker 3 (44:16):
But they wouldn't have beat USC. I know, I highly
doubt that they would have.

Speaker 5 (44:19):
They would have done better than Oklahoma did. They would
have they would have not won that game, no way.
But yeah, I mean it gets very contentious and who
knows what's going to happen and maybe and here's the
ultimate thing. If this was John Summer, all we were
talking about, that was all miss would be one thing.
But it's a lane leaping Kiffen who we have seen

(44:41):
it has been a part of public eye for the
last twenty years.

Speaker 3 (44:44):
He's not He's not exactly a nobody, no, and he's
definitely a character.

Speaker 5 (44:49):
He's not just some boring Midwestern guy that just talks
and coach speaks the whole entire time. The very few
Oklahoma friends that that I know would say, how dare
you besond March?

Speaker 3 (45:00):
Jason White though for Oklahoma.

Speaker 5 (45:05):
Yeah, as a kid, I didn't give a crap about
Jason White because that was all Adrian Peterson.

Speaker 3 (45:11):
One of the top five college football athletes I've seen
in person in my life. Adrian Peterson. Vince Young is
on that.

Speaker 5 (45:18):
One of the only few guys that could have started
in the NFL after high school, one of only two.

Speaker 3 (45:23):
It's him and uh it's him and herschel.

Speaker 2 (45:26):
So when I was living in Houston, I actually went
to the same gym as he did. Yeah, and it
was jacked.

Speaker 3 (45:35):
Then. You've never felt more inadequate in your life A
couple of times, A couple of times. That was one
of them.

Speaker 2 (45:42):
Seven four five, seven nine six'. Ten willie p in
FOR Kb Nate wimberley is going to talk to us
about what's going on with The panthers and The. Rams,
Also i'll get Some hornets talk as, well and Maybe
i'll ask him what he Thinks lanine's gonna.
