Speaker 2 (00:51):
What's going on, Nate? How are you, Paul?

Speaker 1 (00:52):
I'm good man. I hope everybody had a great Thanksgiving.

Speaker 3 (00:56):
How do you assess this Lane Kiffen conundrum? Because we've
been talking about it during our time here. I think
he goes, but I don't think he should go.

Speaker 1 (01:08):
I actually think he's gonna stay.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
He really does.

Speaker 4 (01:11):
I think he's gonna stay. I hope you're right, I mean,
it's just a weird situation. I mean, like, dude, you're
about to go to the playoffs, like you havn't a
good success there, and dude, find a home, please just
find one home. And he just how long is he
gonna be at LSU? Right, It's like, dude, can we
quit this? Him just hopping around and everybody wants him.

(01:31):
I mean, he's a good coach. He's a great coach
if you don't get your program turned around, but stay somewhere.

Speaker 3 (01:37):
If history is any indicator, he willn't necessarily have any
say on how long he stays at LSU because they
fire everybody.

Speaker 4 (01:45):
Well, hey, if you know, if you're not winning ten eleven,
twelve games and threatening for the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (01:49):
Though they lead the country and buy out money doled out,
I think they're still paying coach though. So I mean
it and the larger, the larger scope of the conversation,
because you know, we had Clarklely today, we had Eli
Drinkwitz yesterday. Indiana obviously extends Signetti is that we're finding
out that a lot of these guys at these ascending

(02:09):
or at least trying to bring their way into the
upper echelon of college football. These places are finding out
in the NIL era, it's becoming easier to win if
you just stay, build continuity and not try to get
it restarted somewhere else. And that's why a lot of
these other programs have not found their.

Speaker 4 (02:27):
Man yet, especially if you're in a power for school.
You know, it's much easier now to just look at Indiana.
Who would have thought that he could do that at Indiana?
I mean, you're a Power four school, you're in a
nice conference. You have a better chance to build something
and sustain something. Nowadays you don't have to do all that.
You don't have to get to the SEC to have
a shot at winning a national championship.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
So yeah, but yeah, you know what, LSU and.

Speaker 4 (02:55):
They deserve each other, and I need to go ahead
and do it, man, go ahead and do it.

Speaker 3 (03:00):
Never in my life would I have thought that my
wife would have the upper hand in a football discussion
with Indiana and Missouri.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
Never. Never in my life, No thought I was getting
the victory there. Nope.

Speaker 5 (03:12):
And she's got basketball too to brag about to because
they were the top twenty five. We're talking with Nate
Wimberley WBTV Panthers and Rams. Obviously, with what we saw
on Monday night, it was a lot of different things
going wrong for the Carolina Panthers. But I think it
just seems like there's a disconnect for me based on

(03:33):
in a singular game. I don't feel like they always
know what they're going to do well in a singular game,
and I think that's what the biggest problem was on
Monday night is that it seemed like Dave Canalis really
tried to make the throw happen and it never really
got going. And you saw the tweet from Rico Dawell.
He's come back out afterwards and said, Hey, you know what,

(03:55):
I messed up. We probably should have ran it more.

Speaker 3 (03:57):
It's not the first time that's happened this year, but
at the same point in time, it makes you wonder
at six and six, how this is going to end up,
at least turning around with five games left to go.

Speaker 4 (04:07):
Once again, they're struggling with their identity and you thought
that they had figured that out as far as you know.
I can always go back to the quote he had,
our coach had before the season, where we're going to
be a physical team. If teams are not gonna want
to play us the way you do that have a
great physical defense, which they do have. But you got
to run the ball. And there are some and Monday
is the prime example. You just get away from it.

(04:29):
The final score is twenty to nine. You never should
have abandoned the run. You were never really out of
this game. Keep running the ball, but he wouldn't do it.
And it's like, to your point, this isn't the first
time we've seen this. We keep going through this and
going through this, and you know, do we give Cuba
more rushes? Do we give Rico more rushes? Then you
figure that out. Then this month, this past money. To me,

(04:49):
it looked like Cuba was on the field a lot
more than you know, I thought he would have been.
So right now now you're back to this position of
who's gonna get the most carries?

Speaker 1 (04:57):
Are we gonna run the ball? And I think they look.

Speaker 4 (05:02):
If you don't run the ball this Sunday, I don't
know what's gonna you know, because you've got to run
the ball. You've got to control the clock. You've got
to keep this offense on this sideline because you're so
beat up on defense. Do not give the rams a
whole bunch of byites on the apple against this secondary
and this defense that is just beat up. So you're
gonna have to run the ball if you're doing anything
other than that this Sunday night or Sunday afternoon, I

(05:24):
don't know what's going on.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
Well, it's all Conklin tells me. They'll be weather involved
on Sunday.

Speaker 1 (05:27):
Even more reason to run the ball.

Speaker 3 (05:29):
This is a team. I'll ask the question this way.
They're six and six.

Speaker 5 (05:34):
Now, let's assume that it's six seven after this week
going into the bye.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
Is there a record that you have.

Speaker 5 (05:44):
That would make you feel disappointed, like if like, if
they don't win another game, are you disappointed?

Speaker 1 (05:50):
No, they shouldn't.

Speaker 4 (05:53):
They shouldn't be in this Nobody would have thought they
would be in this position right now, you know.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
What I mean? Wait, wait, even if they would one
more game.

Speaker 4 (05:58):
Than it did last year, I'm fine with that because
I think that's a step that's growth. I mean, we've
seen this team be a team that can compete for
a playoff spot because they've done it at this point,
and I think that's a step ahead of what you
were last year. So even if they don't win another game. Now,
if you lose to the Saints, and if they can
beat the Saints and then lose the rest of their games,
I'm fine with that.

Speaker 2 (06:19):
That's a step So seven to ten is okay with that, That's.

Speaker 1 (06:21):
I'm fine with that.

Speaker 4 (06:22):
I'm perfectly fine with that because you've taken a step
forward and now you've set you put yourself in a
position where playoffs are reasonable. It's it should be expected
next year, you know, you go out and make the
right moves to to you know, help your stuff at
linebacker and things.

Speaker 1 (06:37):
It is, things of that nature.

Speaker 4 (06:38):
You're gonna be in a position to challenge the Bucks
next year to be a playoff team and a division contender.
So yeah, yeah, they only win one more game the
rest of this year, I'm perfectly fine. If I'm a
fan of the of the Panthers, I'm fine with that.

Speaker 3 (06:51):
Rose, Boom Out, Mays Out, Zavala, Horn, Cherylis, and may Rig.
That's six big parts of their team. I think we
all agree that Horn probably is the biggest loss sol
though maybe even Mayory could he be be part of
that as well because he's been such a great puzzle piece.
Where do you think the Panthers will hurt the most
this week.

Speaker 4 (07:11):
It's at that corner back, that cornerback position. You know,
somebody one of them is gonna have to guard or
you know, Davonte Adams, and they're gonna they're boy, their
eyes are gonna be big come Sunday to take on whoever's.

Speaker 1 (07:25):
The opposite Mike Jack.

Speaker 4 (07:27):
But that safety spot is it is a big one too,
because they do have you know, they've got some tight
ends that can hurt you as well. So, uh look,
it's gonna be a long road to hal for the
Panthers this Sunday. But I actually think it's gonna be
a close game for three quarters.

Speaker 1 (07:41):
I do.

Speaker 4 (07:41):
I mean, nothing in this season has made sense in
the NFL. Once you think you figured it out, somebody
else does something crazy. For the Panthers to beat the
Rams will just kind of fit what this season has
been in the NFL.

Speaker 1 (07:52):
So you know, I think they're gonna play them close.

Speaker 4 (07:54):
You know, if they can, if they run the ball
and they run it effectively, I think they can.

Speaker 1 (07:58):
They can.

Speaker 4 (07:59):
They can gut it out and be there at the end.
But in the end, I just think the Rams got
too much firepower.

Speaker 2 (08:03):
For him and to his point.

Speaker 5 (08:05):
In two thousand and one, the one to fifteen Panthers
played the greatest show on turf to about a nine
or ten point game.

Speaker 3 (08:12):
If the Saints are the most winnable game for this team,
what's the second most winnable game they have left?

Speaker 4 (08:19):
I would probably say one of the back of one
of the Bucks games. It's got to be one of
the Bucks games. I don't think they're going to be Seattle.
Seattle's defense is just just lights out right now. And
you know, I do believe we like the clown say
I'm doing and all that, I think he's gonna be
highly motivated, you know now with Jackson Smith and Jigba
and what he has on that offense side of the
ball to come here and put on a show.

Speaker 3 (08:41):
I do believe that, especially because you don't necessarily know
how limited Baker Mayfield's gonna look. And that's obviously something
that stollmates. We seen ween talking with Nate Wimble WBTV
as we get you ready for this interesting weekend in sports,
pivoting to the Hornets, who have lost seven in a row.
Four and fourteen is the record. I asked this Rod
boone an hour ago, how surprised to you that it's

(09:02):
been this disappointing.

Speaker 1 (09:06):
I don't know if I'm.

Speaker 4 (09:07):
Well, it comes with a caveat because I didn't think
they would be this hurt for that long and now
here we are once again in this position again. So
you know, I'm not really surprised surprised, but I am
surprised because I think this team, this team does half talent,
and you know, you get LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller

(09:29):
back for these first two games, and Wednesday, they just
they just looked all a lot of sorts and that
led to con licking a lot of sorts. So I
just think I said it on the point after earlier
today I said, I think the season is already over
because it's gonna take them a while to figure all
of this out with you know, com playing the way
he's playing, and then now you got to adjust he
has to readjust now to those vets being back in

(09:51):
there again. And then once you get Grant Williams back
in the fold, now you're gonna have to readjust there.
So I just think it's time is not on their
side when it comes to this kind of stuff.

Speaker 3 (09:59):
I'm gonna something that's going to surprise Smoke Ludwig. As
much as I like Miles, I think there are times
where the ball sticks to him too much when we're
talking about where Conkin Nipple is in the hierarchy of options,
because I think they're not used to the fact that
this rookie is probably the second best option when it

(10:23):
comes to scoring, third when you have Lamellow and Brandon Boone.
And I think that's something that's hard for a player
like Miles to adjust to, a player like Colin Sexton
to have to adjust to, because I think a lot
of these guys understand they're playing for their futures when
they have to realize that Conkin Nipple is the president
and the immediate future of this basketball team.

Speaker 1 (10:45):
One hundred percent agreed.

Speaker 4 (10:46):
That's why I'm saying it's going to take a while
for them to figure this thing out, and they're probably
gonna have to move on from Miles Bridges at this point.
I just think, you know, once we get this Pantas
season done and we look back up come January February,
it's not gonna be much better than what it is now.
I just don't think so. And at that point, I
think you're going to start to start to hear the
rumblings of you know, we need to move on and this,

(11:08):
that and the other. Look, I love myles Man, but
I just don't think he's the fit here for this
team right now.

Speaker 3 (11:15):
So with Nate, remember Lee, North Carolina UNC this weekend
is very intriguing, obviously from a local perspective. For whatever reason,
I just have a feel about North Carolina this weekend.

Speaker 2 (11:26):
I don't know what it is.

Speaker 3 (11:27):
It's just it's kind of one of those things that
just I feel like n C State maybe lost a
little bit of their will last weekend. Again, I know
that that North Carolina didn't look great against Duke, but
I think I have more confidence in Belichick getting his
guys up motivated than I do en dora In at
this point. But then again, they could surprise me and

(11:48):
lay an egg against Nancy State as well.

Speaker 1 (11:50):
I just think it's just a ribvaly thing.

Speaker 4 (11:51):
I think the State will be ready to go this week,
and you know, I see them getting a win more
so than North Carolina. I just don't really have a
lot for that, you know. I just think State will
because it's that rock every thing, and they'll be ready
and they'll be up and they'll be ready to go,
and I think they'll just get that win.

Speaker 2 (12:09):
You guys got playoff stuff going on, and oh.

Speaker 4 (12:11):
Yeah, absolutely, we got football Friday night, eleven twenty. The
big game to night is the eight A Western Regional Final.
Whe's Charlotte Huff. It's been the game everybody's been looking
forward to all season long.

Speaker 1 (12:20):
The amount of just.

Speaker 4 (12:21):
Talent on this field is just incredible. They're twelve seniors
between both teams that are committed to D one programs.
Already fourteen underclassmen have D one offers. The amount of
talent on this field is just tremendous. You know, where's Charlotte,
the defended three eight state champions They kind of got
the experience on this side of things because they made
a run all the way to the state championship. Huff
is right back in a position where they've been just

(12:43):
like year in and year out, they have yet to
play in the state championship game. This is their best
shot at getting there. Their twelve to zero coach before
the c or after their first win said, we're the
kings of the Queen City, where Charlotte took a little
fense to that. This game is going to be a
great one to night. You know, it could come down
to the end between these two uh as they decide
who goes to the eight eight state championship game.

Speaker 2 (13:03):
Those are two teams that played at the bank.

Speaker 3 (13:05):
Right, No, they played they yeah, yeah, yeah, one play.

Speaker 1 (13:09):
Earlier today and West Charlotte played at the end.

Speaker 3 (13:11):
And so that was kind of there was a little
bit of a a little bit of a tennis tent
back and forth.

Speaker 4 (13:15):
So coach said that right as West Charlotte was looking
at the tunnel where West Arlotte was gonna come out
with the Kings of the Queen City, and you know,
as West Sharlae is standing there looking at them celebrate
with the trophy, and West Charlotte was like, Okay, we'll
see it.

Speaker 2 (13:28):
Should be a lot of fun tonight.

Speaker 4 (13:29):
Absolute eleven twenty on w BTV Football Friday, and always
good to see it.

Speaker 1 (13:33):
Absolutely y'all have a going Hey.

Speaker 3 (13:34):
Wimberley joining us here on a day after Thanksgiving special
as he usually does here on the coy Bailly Show.
A five o'clock will come back, take our last look
at the Panthers and the Rams. Get ready for this
weekend sports Ready on into seven WFNZ. So I see

(13:59):
all three of the young guy did the Monday and
weekend promos for everybody, and Troppy just drew the short straw.

Speaker 2 (14:04):
I had to do the one for here. I got
to kickoff? Is that it?

Speaker 5 (14:07):
See?

Speaker 2 (14:07):
Why did you have to say it like that?

Speaker 6 (14:09):
Man?

Speaker 2 (14:09):
God? Just that's what That's the way I worked. And yeah,
because I'm doing Kyle's for Monday. So cute, it's very cute.
It's like, oh, you made it sound like countdown to kickofs.
The worst show of them.

Speaker 3 (14:21):
All was just just the I think what ended up
happening was that they basically made him do it. They
being fitty and flounder. They teamed up on him. It's
not fun. It's not fair to dude to my guy shopping.
Bears seventeen Eagles nine. By the way, it's whole forty
nine ago fourth quarter. You say seventeen, I said seventeen. Yes,

(14:41):
they scored a touchdown. They just scored a touchdown. Yes,
Jalen Hurts is eight of sixteen, one oh seven and
a touchdown.

Speaker 2 (14:49):
Yeesh.

Speaker 5 (14:50):
It's almost like he's not as good as Eagles fans
say he is. He's a good quarterback, but he's not
that good, and he's been carried by greater made to
look better by better talent and stupid play that should
have been by years ago.

Speaker 2 (15:01):
But there are a lot of people who.

Speaker 3 (15:05):
Think that that's Bryce's avenue to survival is to be
like Jalen Hurts.

Speaker 5 (15:11):
Well, it can't be, not the same staining plout, but
of the type of echelon. I think it could be possible.

Speaker 3 (15:18):
That's people have people have equated, and not just because
they went to the same school at one point in time,
but it's it's they say that his ability to stay
relevant in the NFL is the Eagles Jalen Hurts formula. Now,
we can talk all we want about the talent disparity
between these two organizations, but it is not too far

(15:41):
long removed from the fact that literally the Panthers where
a Xavier League get touchdown catch that was dropped away.

Speaker 2 (15:48):
Or just a catch period well exactly.

Speaker 3 (15:50):
Basically a catch that would have changed the course of
the game away from beating that team head to head
and again, not to get into the whole you know,
historyonics of whether or not Bryce is good or not,
et cetera, and so on. It just it makes me
wonder if maybe we just get too caught up in

(16:12):
the actual numbers. But the thing about it I keep
coming back to is that from a look standpoint, I
don't feel like they have control over the game as
much as I want them to. Like, it's not even
about Bryce, It's about I don't know if they really
understand what they should be doing in a given game.

(16:33):
I think a lot of times it's like, we sit here,
we do a bunch of stuff, and then all of
a sudden, it ads of, Hey, you know, we have
a chance, we have the ball in our hand with.

Speaker 2 (16:40):
A chance to win late. You know what I'm saying.
I just think they've kind of gotten.

Speaker 5 (16:48):
I'm trying to find the right word to describe this.
I just think they want to do everything everywhere, all
at once, like the movie.

Speaker 2 (16:56):
Yes, but you can't play all you can. You can't
win that way exactly.

Speaker 5 (17:01):
And I just don't think Dave has found fully the
right balance that he wants to do with this team specifically.
I think at this point, you just gotta you can't
think too much and you just got to go what
do you say? What do coaches tell you when you
make a mistake on the field? Specifically when you're playing football,
well flush it. But you also they tell you especially

(17:21):
when you look like you're thinking and you take a
step back, went in the middle of the plays like, dude,
don't think. I'd rather you make a mistake not thinking,
then make a mistake thinking and where you look like
you get off the gas pedal. I think it's one
of those situations. So I ever, go fully with the run,
go fully of the pass, go find your percentage points,
and go there with whatever you want to do with
the offense and stick to it, because I think that's

(17:42):
part of what made that And that's a frustrating thing.
If the offense didn't look like what it did the
last eight games for the most part, outside of the Atlanta.

Speaker 2 (17:49):
Outside of.

Speaker 5 (17:52):
Or of last year, outside of the Dallas game, yes,
I don't think maybe the fan base will be as
frustrated as they are right now. But since the offense
looked like that in the back half the season, well
you have proof of concept, right and now it just
feels like outside of a couple of games, it's not
looked like that, you know, outside of the Dallas, outside
of the Miami and outside of Atlanta, it hasn't looked

(18:12):
like that. And the thing that is most discouraging is
you'd like to think that year over the year you've
upgraded the talent. Now, I understand they've been more injured
on the offensive line and there's something you can't control,
and they championed their depth with the offensive line for
the most part this season. But at the same point
in time, you've not gotten the same productivity from guys

(18:34):
who you've counted on. You've not gotten the productivity out
of Xavier League GET. I think mostly the tight end
position has been a cavernous wasteland. I think you've seen
some flashes from some guys in certain moments, or the Stavion,
Tommy Trempborough Metro Ovens, but I wouldn't co I wouldn't
go out on the limits say any of them has
had an exemplar reseason. I think t Mak has been

(18:55):
the best of a so so bunch. And the problem
with t Mak is he's probably good for one drop
or more a game, and that's, you know, something that
we skewered Xavier League GET for last year. I find
it interesting that t mac has gotten a little bit
more of a pass this year as a result of that,

(19:16):
I think it's more because the productivity numbers outside of
that have been there, but people have I think gloss
over that, which is why I think calling out Bryce
is one thing, but calling out the entire operation, the
passing game operation as a whole, and just the offense
as a whole. That's part of the reason why I
still feel like there's certain disconnect in terms of what

(19:37):
they want to do, almost kind of like you said,
they're trying to be everything for everyone at the same
exact time, and I think it's just Dave Canalis is
putting too much own himself by trying to be head
coach and offense coordinator at the same time.

Speaker 2 (19:49):
Funny you mentioned that. Funny you mentioned that.

Speaker 3 (19:52):
I didn't mean to cut you up, but funny you
mentioned that, because I say that a lot when you
and I do the postgame show together. I feel like
I've said it a lot of times that I don't
think he's good enough at doing both at the same
time to be doing that at this point at least. Yeah,
like I understand that that he got this job mostly

(20:14):
based on his ability to call plays in a very
limited sample size, a very limited sample SiZ I would say,
most of what he did to get this job was
what he does with Bryce. And on a micro level,
that's what I think will make or break his time
with the Carolina Panthers is if you get the most
out of Bryce, regardless of how it looks with the numbers,

(20:37):
regardless of what it looks with wins and losses, If
you turn Bryce into a quarterback that has staying power
in the National Football League, Dave Canalis will control when
he leaves this job. If not, he'll be fired. If
Bryce does not work, he'll be fired. And I don't
think that's a decision that gets made this year earliest.
It gets made this next year, next year exactly.

Speaker 7 (20:58):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (20:59):
So my my point is I think he shouldn't be
the play caller. I think it needs to be Brad Isack.
Why is he on the staff if he can't be
a play caller?

Speaker 2 (21:08):
Right?

Speaker 5 (21:09):
And people saying, well, bringing this guy, bringing you know,
Brian day balls oc, Well, at this point, no, because
you don't know how he's gonna work with.

Speaker 3 (21:17):
He bring in somebody who understands what you are organizationally
and philosophically.

Speaker 5 (21:22):
And let Brad Isack and we talk about the Detroit
lines so we've compared the situations potentially so much to
the Detroit Lions. I think people forget that in year two,
Dan Campbell was the play caller, sure, and you know
they were pretty good at the back end of the year,
but the early portion they didn't have the identity fully
fleshed out, and they were one and six, they were

(21:43):
training away their one of their best offensive weapons, TJ.
Hockinson to a division rifle, and everyone's like, what the
hell are you doing?

Speaker 2 (21:49):
Now?

Speaker 5 (21:49):
It worked out and after year two, you know, they
ended on a high note. And after year two, what
did what did Dan Campbell do? Gave the rings to
Ben Johnson m hm, and we saw how that took
another step because now Dan Campbell is just making decisions
more on a macro level kind of being a CEO type.

Speaker 2 (22:05):
Well, that's the thing.

Speaker 5 (22:06):
And part reason too, is like, why have the Lions
taken a step back this year? Because you know, they
lost Ben Johnson and now we've gotten to the point
where Dan Campbell is calling plays yet again.

Speaker 3 (22:16):
I think we get caught up in the fact that
at the college level a lot of these guys do it,
but even still they get to a point where they say,
you know what, maybe I need to be more detached.
Maybe I need the ability and the bandwidth to make
more of the global decisions in game and around the game.

(22:39):
I don't think Dave Canalis has enough of a feel
of the game because he is so involved in Hey,
how are we going to make each of these things
work offensively? And you know, he doesn't necessarily have a
pulse on the defense. He leaves all that to EJ.
And I don't think he's bashful about saying so. And
I never I never like when that's the case. I'm

(22:59):
not saying that that Dave can Al has to turn
himself into you know, he doesn't turn himself into Steve
Spagnola overnight. But at the same point in time, I'd
like him more involved in the global decisions, and I'd
like the offense turned over to Edzick. I think you'd
see a difference, I really do. I think you do
any other thing too, if you turn that over to Idzick.

(23:23):
I think he can do more one on one with Bryce,
and I think that's what you want. That's more of
what you want. And again, I know that a lot
of that comes down to the quarterback coach and he
doesn't want to step on the quarterback coach's toes. But
it comes down to what the end goal was of
this season. We talked about at the beginning of the season.
The end goal of this season wasn't to win a
certain amount of games or get to the playoffs or

(23:44):
even be in the hunt with to find out whether
or not Bryce could play and Bryce could stay and
Bryce could be a serviceable is not the right word,
but to be serviceable or better in this league.

Speaker 5 (23:57):
And I think you found out enough of Bryce, even
though it's been inconsistent to where you can't fully just
let them walk. It's not like where those situations were like,
oh yeah, we're letting them walk. Oh yeah, we're definitely
paying him. They're going to give him the fifty options.
They're going to give him the fifty option, which is
the prudent way to do business, because if he balls
out next year, you got yourself in a bad situation
because you don't have a buffer year now and you

(24:18):
essentially have to give him the franchise tagging and that
puts you in a yeah, worse situation.

Speaker 3 (24:23):
But for everybody who says that they want to bring
in somebody who's a veteran to compete with him for
the job next year. I I I'm questionable of what's
out there as a backup.

Speaker 5 (24:37):
I'm questionable of what's out there. There is one, but
he's already pretty old and he's not had a good year.
But I think now we've kind of heard a little
bit more of the dirty laundry getting exposed in Las
Vegas with Gino.

Speaker 3 (24:48):
Yeah, Gino is a backup. There's also the back Jones
route that people have.

Speaker 5 (24:56):
I think I can't be at a starting job somewhere,
or at least spots start job, you know, transition year.
You think New York. No, I mean I meant the
Green Ones, not the no no no for either one.
But somewhere someone's gonna take a chance on back I
wouldn't think that. I wouldn't think the Giants because giants
giants have got dark yeah, Dart and plus didn you
still have Jamis for another year, So that's perfect backup

(25:18):
option there.

Speaker 2 (25:20):
He's not the reason he lost Sunday, that's for sure. No, no, no.
But but looking forward.

Speaker 5 (25:26):
To I wouldn't say looking forward to looking ahead to
the rams, because I don't think anybody's looking forward to
the Rams, Scott and Bealmonco. Actually before I would say,
did you not watch the preseason with it with that's
a joke.

Speaker 3 (25:39):
It's his second year. I watched the preseason with Izick
for two.

Speaker 5 (25:46):
Drives own a shoe string essentially a shoe string budget
of an offense. Yes, I don't take preseason from a
guy that doesn't call preseason full time basis when he's
not calling for the starters most of the time. No,
I don't take anything from that. And those are two games,
So no, Yeah, I get if this was like the
mid two thousands and you're calling preseason games and it

(26:08):
looked that.

Speaker 2 (26:08):
Bad when guys when guys are actually playing.

Speaker 5 (26:11):
Yeah, and guys in the mid two thousands actually were
like playing in the preseason games because I went to
a couple of them. But that ain't the case. This
is what the preseason is anymore. We're kind of in
a filling out. The whole preseason is a big gold
fieling out.

Speaker 3 (26:24):
Plas can can I give you a hot take? I
don't even know why we had the preseason anymore.

Speaker 5 (26:29):
It's the way a lot of teams have been delegating
the preseason, yet they have they have said the quiet
part out loud.

Speaker 2 (26:34):
They don't like.

Speaker 5 (26:35):
It, and likely what's gonna happen as by the end
of the decade, there's gonna be a crossroads between the
NFL owners and players Association, and they're gonna come to
a compromise. They'll have joint practices, but they won't have
preseason games anymore, so they can sacrifice that eighteenth game.

Speaker 3 (26:50):
Well, I think what's gonnap. I think what's gonna end
up happening. You're gonna end up having two games. Everybody
will get one preseason game. But I think you're gonna
have more joint practices, like you said, and I think
they will find a way because part of this too
is that these local TV packages, you know Queen City
does the Panthers. I think these local places are gonna
be like, Okay, how are you going to replenish that

(27:10):
opportunity for programming for us? They're going to find a
way to package it, you know, kind of like they
did with the Fan Fast back in the day. They're
going to find a way to package it in a
television special opportunity where I think there'll be a push
pull with every team to say, okay, how much of
this can we actually see.

Speaker 5 (27:25):
I haven't edited a simulcast the Blueprint episodes that they
drop on their YouTube channel exactly.

Speaker 2 (27:30):
That's essentially.

Speaker 5 (27:31):
But yeah, I mean, I'm not going to take that
much from brad Iddick's offensive game planning or offensive play calling. No,
in the preseason, No, I can't take it take that
much from it then, No.

Speaker 3 (27:42):
The avenue to victory for this game is very similar
to the Green Bay game. You need you need the
other team to help you a little bit. Number one,
you need to run the football effectively, and you have
to play mistake free.

Speaker 2 (27:55):
Football, especially in this game.

Speaker 3 (27:57):
Yeah, and even if all those even if all three
of those things happened, there's no guarantee you're even winning
the football game.

Speaker 2 (28:02):
I think it's gonna have to need to be low scoring.
Bryce is not.

Speaker 3 (28:06):
Gonna have Bryce cannot turn the football over, and you're
gonna have to get a takeaway or two. And the
problem is the person who gave you two of your
three takeaways last week is on the shelf.

Speaker 5 (28:17):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (28:18):
Trevent Wallas is gonna have to play big, and it
is big that you're at least getting one year starting linebackers. Correct,
And I'm not. I'm not glossing over that fact as well.
That's a fantastic get back. Have you been as impressed
with the effectiveness of Scorting and Numau me Ellen of
late Scrton definitely Clarton, Yes, Uman me Ellen, he's had

(28:39):
He's dropped off though, But like uman is, I didn't
expect this year to really be a massive year for
this was the project here for Yeah, this is a
project year, and he's shown me enough that I want
to see from a project where he has moments.

Speaker 2 (28:50):
He even has moments on special teams.

Speaker 5 (28:51):
He was the one that calls that fumble against the
Atlanta Falcons, and if I'm not mistaken, didn't he calls
that fumble that got recovered by Sanfrain. So yeah, I'm
I'm while I want to maybe see a little bit
more sacks from both of them. I've seen enough from
Uman Miellen's. It's just like, all right, let's just get
to the end of the year. If you have a
couple of those moments sprinkled in the next five games
and then we'll get into year two. That's the thing

(29:13):
I I I know it probably wasn't gonna happen with
Scordon because he was more of the rundown guy. I
just I did not expect this pass for us to
be still so very diminished, And the fact that they
need to send pressure in order to get actual hurries
on the quarterback is incredible as concerning because we know

(29:35):
that EJ doesn't like to do it.

Speaker 2 (29:38):
He doesn't.

Speaker 3 (29:39):
He doesn't like to do two things that I think
a lot of people want to see more of. He
doesn't like to blitz. He doesn't like to travel. JC
Horn and obviously one of those things is not a
factor this week, and I'd be curious to see with
the kind of drop off you're getting down to Shaw, Smith,
Wade and Caleb Evans, and maybe that means that you
see Mike Jack travel a little bit more, although again,

(30:00):
and it's kind of paid, he doesn't.

Speaker 5 (30:01):
If he doesn't do it with JC, he's not doing
a Mike Jack. And plus you're damned I.

Speaker 2 (30:06):
Pick your poison between Pooka and DeVante exactly.

Speaker 5 (30:09):
So uh yeah, you just basically have to go with
the flow in this situation and just hope for the best.
But I will say there's another aspect of this game.
You know, I complained about it on Tuesday show specifically
how they didn't do anything. But I think the yellow
handkerchief is going to be out there a lot more
this Sunday. Looking at the crew Adrian Hills, a referee,

(30:31):
looking at the amount of penalties that he's had for games. Yeah,
we're talking about anywhere from twelve to fifteen penalties on
average most weeks, So a lot of yellow flags. So
I wouldn't be shocked if we see a lot of
pass interference calls own.

Speaker 2 (30:43):
Some of the guys.

Speaker 3 (30:44):
What I always say about Adrian Hell, he gets paid
by the word on the mic.

Speaker 5 (30:49):
Of course, this is the guy that follows after San
Francisco didn't get penalized except for two times, and one
of them was a delay game.

Speaker 2 (30:57):
Despite all the could we have not.

Speaker 3 (30:59):
A retroactively had him for San Francisco because that would
have been maybe a closer game.

Speaker 5 (31:02):
No, I think there's a reason he didn't get the
sand Frame game because they wanted to make sure that
San fran got all the calls they could so they
can put him firmly back in the NFC West.

Speaker 2 (31:09):
Grace narrative, narrative inspiracy. But I think it's also.

Speaker 5 (31:14):
True it's time for smoke on the headlines last check.
All right, well I reacted. You probably saw my reaction.
A big interception for Georgia against Georgia Tech. They're up
thirteen to three over the Yellow Jackets, and Haines King
threw an interception right there. Very unfortunate there because they

(31:35):
were moving the ball across midfield and that was a
deep shot.

Speaker 2 (31:38):
That was an arm punt anyway.

Speaker 5 (31:40):
And some other news regarding college football right now, North
Texas is on their way to beating Temple, a bad
day for Matt Rule. If you remember, Eric Morris has
signed to become the head coach for Oklahoma State at
the end of this year, and he will be staying
with North Texas if they do make the conference championship
game and or playoffs. But we have a you acc

(32:01):
head coach amongst us. Stanford and Andrew Luck have found
their man, and it's a familiar face for Stanford. It's
former quarterback ta Vita Prichard, who Andrew Luck replaced while
he was at Stanford.

Speaker 2 (32:14):
Prichard was the quarterback for Stanford when they had.

Speaker 5 (32:16):
That massive upset victory over USC back in two thousand
and seven. He had been the quarterbacks coach for the
Washington Commanders for the last three years, and now he
is the newest head coach of the Stanford Cardinals.

Speaker 2 (32:29):
What do you think about that? Really? I find that.

Speaker 3 (32:30):
Interesting because of the symbiotic relationship.

Speaker 2 (32:33):
Between the two of them. Obviously you mentioned his going
of finds at Washington. So sorry, I sorry, got you
you benched. This is my now replacement for you, hopefully
forgive me.

Speaker 3 (32:45):
How about Frank Wright getting an upset victory over cal Well.

Speaker 2 (32:48):
Golf clap for Frank Right.

Speaker 5 (32:49):
I can't believe I'm saying this, but Frank c Reich
did a better job as Stanford interim head coach than
he did here in Carolina.

Speaker 2 (32:56):
He didn't have to do much to be better, but.

Speaker 3 (32:59):
It was honestly not too terribly bad. But four wins
is for four and seven heading into the Notre Dame game.

Speaker 2 (33:07):
Good job by Frank Raig. Golf clap for him.

Speaker 3 (33:09):
By the way, it looks like Chicago is gonna win
twenty four to nine. They lead Philadelphia. I got for
forty four to play in the fourth quarter. It's crazy
because you know what that means. I can't believe I'm
saying this. The NFC East is now up for Grabs
look at that because especially as Dallas has found themselves.

Speaker 5 (33:28):
Right and they're six five and one, that time might
help them like it did with Carolina in twenty fourteen.
And I mean, the NFC North could be well, it's
not over yet, just because you've got the Packers still.

Speaker 3 (33:40):
Yeah, Packers are still having pat Packers will have their say,
have they played Green Bay once or they played once
or they have.

Speaker 2 (33:47):
One more to go? I think they still got one
more to go with green Bay.

Speaker 5 (33:51):
But yeah, I mean, well, if you were told me
seven days ago, I'm like, yeah, NFC East has already designed.

Speaker 2 (33:56):
It's it's a done deal.

Speaker 5 (33:57):
But now the Cowboys are firmly into wild are gone
and they might be in the NFC East high with
this game, right all next game is against the Packers, interesting,
which is going to be massive. But oh they play
They're they're kind of like Tampa Bay and Carolina. So
both the matchups are coming up in the next three
weeks and Packers, oh my gosh, your scheduled to end

(34:20):
the year outside of the last game against the Vikings.

Speaker 2 (34:22):
Well, no, I'm scared. It's not easy.

Speaker 5 (34:24):
They got the Bears sandwiched in between the Bears game,
the Broncos, AH and the Ravens.

Speaker 3 (34:30):
With that incredible not exactly an easy road to to finish.

Speaker 2 (34:38):
Thank you Smoke for the headlines.

Speaker 3 (34:39):
We will come back and close up shop, give you
our last licks well the weekend. Also get you ready
for Hornets and Bowls Tonight Sports Ready ninety two seven WFNZ.

Speaker 7 (34:55):
I don't think any boyas tied for corners long term,
other than maybe a couple of players, maybe Brendan Miller
in se regard because LaMelo the Hornets obviously in him,
I think they wanted it to work. I think Lamello
wants to be here. I don't think he really wants
to go anywhere. I'll be honest with you, I'm not
sure his regard why he would want to because you know,
I think this market for him is kind of like

(35:17):
what he enjoys, what he likes. So they have to
get to be able to work. And when you have
your highest paid player and he's not able to get
you to the promised land, per se, you have to
be able to have a discussion with yourself honestly and
figure out the best move for both sides is to
move on. So we'll see if it happens.

Speaker 2 (35:40):
Ron Boon.

Speaker 3 (35:40):
Earlier today here on the cow Valley Show Sports Radio
ninety two to seven WFNZ, we were talking about the
merits of all the stuff that's surrounding LaMelo Ball and
whether or not it means that the Hornets are at
least actively shopping him, or if there's, you know, any
truth to the rumor involving that stuff that surrounds him.

(36:02):
It's it's hard for me because when he said that
about LaMelo, he also said the same thing about Miles,
and he's like, those guys don't want to go anywhere. Yeah,
because in the eyes of a lot of fans, they're
stealing paychecks. I wouldn't necessarily say that that was the

(36:22):
case in Miles's perspective, but again, there are some things
and I even said it during my conversation with Nay Wimberley.
Whereas I am Bobby, one of the last Miles stands
in the world, it does seem incredibly evident that the
ball sticks to him a lot of times, more so
now than it has previously, because he feels like he
has to take on this hero ball role in an

(36:45):
offense that now at least has some adequate help confutable
being the biggest part of that. And LaMelo just has
not looked consistent at all since coming back, And in
the twenty seven twenty eight minutes that he's been playing,
he's not shooting the ball very well, he's turning the
basketball over and from a body language standpoint, does not

(37:09):
look like he's overly concerned about any of it. Like,
we've not seen frustration. Somebody mentioned on Twitter, Oh, well,
we've not seen a LaMelo crash out yet, and I'm like,
I hope we don't, because that means that things have
gone hardly wrong. And you're sitting at four and fourteen.
I know they're not as bad as that record is

(37:29):
because most of that record is indicative of not having
Brandon and LaMelo for much of the season, Brandon more
so than LaMelo Meloela's best five games. But at the
same point in time, Smoke, you're getting to a point
where the Robbers got to meet the road at some point,
and this has gott to look something of a semblance
of what we saw in opening night. If it never

(37:51):
looks that good, I think people are gonna be very
disappointed in the way the season goes. Yeah, but the
unfortunate truth that is going to have that I think
some fans are going to have to realize is that's
why you can't trade him unless you get absolutely blown
away at the deadline. That's why you at least have
to get through the rest of this year just to
see just to make sure, because trading someone like Lamello

(38:11):
and if it backfires immediately after would be a catastrophic mistake,
you know. And that's why you have to give it
a full season in this situation, to see if he
can play for the injury, if he does get better,
if he does get more healthier, and if he gets
back to being his efficient self.

Speaker 2 (38:27):
That's where it has to be.

Speaker 5 (38:28):
Now, I'm not in pro trade Lamello category right now.

Speaker 2 (38:32):
I'm in I'm kind of indifferent.

Speaker 5 (38:35):
I'm in pro if you get blown away with by
an offer right now, but don't just trade him to
trade him, you know what I mean. I would be
okay with trading him if you got some if you've
got a starter, and by a starter, I mean like
a starter of a certain level back and you get picks. Yeah,
oh well obviously.

Speaker 2 (38:52):
Yeah. So I'm just.

Speaker 3 (38:54):
Saying I wouldn't do it just for a pickhaul and
bad contract.

Speaker 2 (38:57):
But I wouldn't do it.

Speaker 5 (38:58):
Because I just don't think you're getting it right now,
because why would anything No, No, that's what I'm saying
fall over themselves to do that at this point.

Speaker 3 (39:05):
Well, there's a lot of people who have been advocating
for the the mess for mess trades, if you will,
Like Zion is one of those guys. Uh Jah Morant
has been, has been. I'm not saying that I'm the
last person that needs to come here.

Speaker 2 (39:21):
I'm not. I'm not saying that I agree with it.

Speaker 3 (39:24):
I'm just telling you that's kind of what that that's
that's the framework of the the people who are looking
at this and saying, hey, if you've got a player back,
et cetera. According to uh this is from Brett Stiegel
of Clutch Points. He said, both the Kings and the
Tea Wolves we mentioned as possible landing spots for the Mellow,

(39:45):
and another nation just floated around has been the New
Orleans Pelicans. I wouldn't know what a Tea Wolves deal
would look like. I don't think you're getting back anybody
of consequence. Kings you could talk about maybe I wouldn't
hate No, Yes, that means that Colin Sexton's your point guard.

Speaker 2 (40:03):
The rest of the year.

Speaker 5 (40:04):
Well, you're probably going with that anyway, if you trade
the middle of the season. Yeah, exactly, unless unless they
do the Jah thing, which I don't thin they're gonna do.
But I don't think they're gonna go catastrophic. I think
I think we'll see Miles get traded this headline, but
I think that's about as big as you're going, right.

Speaker 2 (40:21):
Yeah, Kings would mean maybe Sibonis.

Speaker 5 (40:23):
I have no idea because their roster is constructed in
such a backwards way. Oh yeah, that I don't know
who you're getting in what and how much you'd actually
they're actually asking for.

Speaker 3 (40:34):
I would need to be blown away for a lamellow
trade on season. I think it's I mean, I don't
want to say in general, I think i'd have to
be blown away if they turn it around, but they
still feel like it's not going to happen, if they
if they feel like there's a certain ceiling with the mellow,
if it's still abjectly awful, if if four and fourteen

(40:56):
is the pace that they sustained throughout the entire season,
and then I would take anything but I think.

Speaker 2 (41:04):
How they do this season informs me with.

Speaker 3 (41:06):
How how well or how good I think the deal
has to be, which is why I thank you.

Speaker 2 (41:11):
Still have to wait for the season.

Speaker 3 (41:12):
If sure decision, Yeah, unless you get unless somebody comes
to you and says, hey, we're gonna give you somebody
who can be a cornerstone player in your organization, which
I don't think three.

Speaker 5 (41:21):
Or four first round picks that are either unprotected or
very lightly protected.

Speaker 2 (41:26):
Lightly protected.

Speaker 5 (41:30):
Cam Newton Post twenty fifteen, lightly protected, lightly protected.

Speaker 3 (41:35):
I had fun today. I hope you guys did. It
is time to tip our caps. We have a sponsor
attached to that, Yes we do. It's twin no no neogenics. Neogenics,
that's what I say, our friends and neogo all you
have to lose to the pain, that's correct. Yeah, you
could lose the pain of worrying about Eli Drinka Witz

(41:55):
his future now because he's staying.

Speaker 5 (41:57):
But I'll tip my cap to two people. I'll tip
my cap to you film In doing a great job here,
thank you. And I'll tip my cap to Queen's head
coach Grant Leonard. Unfortunately Queens is not doing well. They're
playing Virginia what do you expect, But Grant Leonard is
losing in style. He has an ugly Thanksgiving sweater with
a turkey in the middle that says leftovers are for quitters.
That's the Greg Campy way, as you would know from

(42:19):
the old Oakland Head coach. I'll say old, he's still
the Olkland coach.

Speaker 2 (42:23):
Did he retire?

Speaker 3 (42:24):
He's still the Oakland Head coach. But he's a big
fan of the other Christmas Boders whenever they play Michigan State.
I'll tip my cap to the son of the blind Side.
Louisiana Monroe has made a new athletic director higher.

Speaker 5 (42:38):
S J.

Speaker 3 (42:38):
Towey of the blind Side fame aka the step brother
of Michael Orr is the new director of athletics at
University of Louisiana Monroe after being at Central Florida Oral
Roberts and among others across the intercollegiate athletic scene.

Speaker 2 (42:55):
So congratulations to s. J.

Speaker 3 (42:57):
Towoey forgetting his first, big, big job in college athletics.
Stick around WFNZ six thirty. We will have pregame for
the Hornets and the Bulls. T Bone is gonna join
me from here and we will talk to you in
just a moment, remember to count down. A kickoff show
begins at ten o'clock at the WFNZ Doghouse, pounded by
Jack daniels Is. The Panthers take on the Rams, Bailey

Speaker 2 (43:19):
Have you for that.

Speaker 3 (43:20):
I will see you for the postgame on Sunday as well.
Until then we stay so long. On Sports Radio night
to seven WFNZ, enjoy it. Thanksgiving weekend. You're gonna be
dead in one hundred years anyway, Live dangerously.

Speaker 8 (43:34):
Coming up Monday on the wessel Walker Show, the guys
are back in studio to discuss their Thanksgiving holiday and
the Panthers and Rams. Could the Panthers get it done?
