Speaker 2 (00:23):
And a pleasant, good afternoon to you and yours. This
is the Kyle Bailey Show on Sports Radio ninety two
to seven wfn Z. Happy to be with you here
on this twenty third day of December twenty twenty five.
Whether it's Christmas Eve Eve for you, whether it is
Festivus for you, it can be all those things and more,
but hopefully it is a good Tuesday to you here

(00:44):
on the best sports talk in the Carolina Sports Radio
ninety two to seven WFNZ. We've got a pretty stacked menu
for you today. Nick Carbone is going to join us
for as usual Tuesday spot on this program at quarter
before four. We're gonna talk to Carlin Gay, NBA, writer
for Sporting News for twenty five and we're also gonna
get our first look at the Seahawks Ran Nemhauser from

(01:05):
the Hawks Blogger website, which is his outfit hawk Blogger
dot com. He will be joining us at five o'clock.
We'll do a home at home, he'll come on our program.
I'm actually gonna go on his program tomorrow on Christmas
Eve while the bullionnairese is simmering tomorrow for the Christmas Lasagna,
we'll make the sauce day before, etc.

Speaker 3 (01:25):
And so on.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
But while that is simmering, I will join Brian tomorrow morning.
It is a little bit earlier in the Western time zone,
so we'll get a chance to talk about our respective
teams to each other, and we'll get a little bit
of a window into a team we don't see very often,
although some people we know very well, including Sam Donald
and get his thoughts on the matchup coming up. And again,

(01:48):
this is such a weird matchup coming up here, smoke,
because as much as I want to throw all the
enthusiasm I had into this game like I did the
previous contest, I know it almost kind of feels like
an appetizer in a house money type game. Because while

(02:09):
winning this game would be very, very fun for Carolina,
I don't want it to happen from a punitive sense
and that somebody gets hurt. And number two, I have
very little, too very minuscule hopes and faith in the
Miami Dolphins pulling off an upset against Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

(02:30):
The only thing that gives me any hope is that
Tampa Bay has been such a traveling train wreck over
the course in the last couple of weeks that maybe
they played down to an opponent and we see Quinn
yours do something that basically is unforeseen. But I'm not hoping.
I'm not predicting it to happen, even though I'm hoping
for it to happen. I still think, also from Carolina's perspective,

(02:53):
as much as you want to feel like this game
can be a nice litmus test, is obviously a desire.
You'd rather obviously win the Week eight teen contest than
the one this weekend if you had to pick one
of the two, definitely, And that's kind of where you
put yourself in a weird situation.

Speaker 3 (03:07):
This is this whole week.

Speaker 2 (03:09):
It just feels like a week where you're just looking
back to that Saints' loss, both of them, to be
honest and be like, why can you win one of them,
because then it would already be over and this will
just be a house money situation to try and see
if you can get a higher seed. Because technically, Carolina
as of right now, would still have a shot at
the number three seed. You need Philly to lose twice, right, Yeah,
I would need Philly to lose out, which it's gonna be.

(03:31):
Would be a kind of a hard task, but not
the hardest because they go against Buffalo this week and
then they go against Washington.

Speaker 3 (03:36):
A lot of the Washington one's a tough part of that.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
Yeah, But then again, Washington probably is gonna play motivated
after that fight last week. So I mean, you got
that tough notion, but you just kind of realize it's
gonna be slim pickens and it's gonna be very hard
for both things to happen this week that you need
to happen. But I also think, you know, Carolina, they
can't think about that. They just need to go out

(03:59):
there and play. They need to go out there play
and try to win. If you win, great, and then
if the other stuff happens, that's the icing on top.
But if you don't, if they don't win, if Miami
doesn't win, and Tampa doesn't win, guess what that gives
you more of a motivating factor. If you beat the
Seattle Seahawks this weekend, you just beat two NFC West teams,
and you picked the Unfortunately, Carolina had the worst possible

(04:21):
year to get the draw of playing the NFC West
this year, because the NFC West is one of the,
if probably the hardest division in all football. This year,
I already got somebody who's taking shots on the twenty
third with a feet with a h an.

Speaker 3 (04:34):
Airing of grievances.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
With all the respect with you, but you predicted the
Panthers to win ten games last season, So I'm not
really gonna trust you saying Miami won't beat Tampa Tampa Bay.
Uh okay, Well, I don't know what what what one
has to do with the other said ten wins last year?
Did I really did I say ten wins last year?

Speaker 4 (04:51):
Ye?

Speaker 2 (04:51):
I think that was like it was two years ago.
It's two years ago. I thought you were a twelve
win guy. Yeah, I was twelve win guy two years ago.
Did you get the two right?

Speaker 3 (04:58):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (04:59):
Thank you, thank you for that. I appreciate that.

Speaker 5 (05:03):
No.

Speaker 2 (05:03):
I And this year I said between seven and nine,
and we're right there in the middle of that at date.
So you know, if they get to ten and they
go beyond what my prediction was, I'll be happy.

Speaker 3 (05:14):
About it again.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
I love how we great predictions here and for some
reason I am the only one that come back to
to be graded with a fine tooth comb. But at
the same point in time, I'm with you so much
about this upcoming week. Is is a litmus test, and
it is also about the things that probably don't matter
until the following week. But at the same point in time,

(05:39):
it would not hurt my feelings to see them put
back to back games together because they haven't done so
in such a long time, and that's a part of
what I think is ahead of them this week and
could also give you some amout on going towards Week eighteen.
We did get some encouraging news the Panthers today to
give you an idea of their schedule. They were had
their usual Monday instead of going doing their day off

(06:01):
Tuesday like they normally do. Usually the NFL has a
mandated day off on Tuesday, but because of the Christmas
holiday following on Thursday, they will have their day off
b on Thursday. They do a walk through today at
the stadium, and then they will do basically two medium
strength practices on Wednesday and Friday, so that'll be kind

(06:23):
of the way they go about making this week happen. Again,
they are the team that ends up having to not
have to do the travels, so that part of it
also is a little bit easier on them. I'm wondering
if it's a little bit different from Seattle, and we'll
ask Brian Nemhauser of that in terms of the way
they go about this particular part of it. Yeah, Luckily
for Seattle, you know, they probably picked the best possible
week to get a Thursday night game and have an extra,

(06:44):
essentially extra couple of days. So if they played on
Sunday and they were coming over here, I know they
already have to deal with the one o'clock kick East
Coast time, which is a ten o'clock West coast. But
I also think it also helps that they had about
three or four extra days. And Mike McDonald has been very,

(07:05):
very good on the East Coast. I saw somewhere where
it's like twelve and two as a guy who was
a part of a franchises that have gone west to
east like that. So it's been something of it or
falling to at least on the road, but he's been
I think somewhere likeate the neighborhood of like eight and
one or nine to one. It's some other worldly good
number when it comes to playing on the East coast.

Speaker 3 (07:23):
Counterpoint, it was the same thing for Sean McVay. It was.
It definitely was.

Speaker 2 (07:27):
So that could very well be a big part of
that Texter talking about Todd Bowles being a clown. By
the way, we are going to get into what Todd
Bowles said in his Monday missive because he had something
to say about the way they structured their game plan.
He basically said that he was basing the way that

(07:48):
he attacked the Panthers by the way their run defense
looked last year. And it makes you wonder, did Todd
Bowles not watch a single bit of film on the
Panther defense knowing that, hey, maybe the run defense has
actually improved year over year. Maybe having Derek Brown has
improved year over year. Which brings me to the next
point involving Carolina. Jase Horn gets the Pro Bowl, very

(08:11):
good news. We don't want to blow any part of
that out out of a negative. But while he gets
to the Pro Bowl, he should have been joined by
Derek Brown, and I'm sorry to say that he will
not be joined by Derek Brown. Again, the Pro Bowl
is less about the game itself now it's turned into
a flag football event. It's not exactly anything other than
a nice bonus for these guys, but it's always great

(08:32):
to get recognition. But he does not make the Pro
Bowl because of and this is the thing that surprises me.
He was third in the fan vote per Mike Kay
of The Sherald Observer, but does not make the Pro
Bowl because of the coaches and players voting. He was
a lot lower on those lists than he probably should
have been. Again, he only has five sacks, which again

(08:54):
is something that, while is a nice metric, doesn't really
measure the impact that he has. Look at anything you
want to when it comes to the way he plays
in football games. The film Brian Baldinger's Breakdowns, he basically
throws offensive lineman like a rag doll, and for whatever reason,
that doesn't get recognized by his peers enough. And I

(09:15):
would have thought enough offensive lineman had been abused by
Derek Brown for him to get out of the NFL
Pro Bowl, But unfortunately, Evan, it is not that case.

Speaker 3 (09:25):
Yeah, unfortunate.

Speaker 2 (09:27):
Look, I do think part of this got screwed up
by the fact that Quentin Williams got traded to the
NFC in the middle of the year. But I don't get.
The thing that frustrates me is usually when this stuff happens,
it's the fan vote that you know, screws over or
kills any chance of Carolina Panther for getting in. But
this time it's the players and coaches. Jalen Carter, Leonard Williams,

(09:52):
Quentin Williams. Look, I don't mind Jalen Carter being in
there at all. That's probably one of the only guys
I could say that's probably just as good, if better
than Derek Brown. I have no problem with that, But
I don't know about Quentin Williams.

Speaker 3 (10:05):
I'm sorry.

Speaker 2 (10:06):
I love Quinnen Williams to death, but it just didn't
feel like it was his year, and you know, get
traded in the middle of the year. I I'm sorry,
that's too much for me. I'm with you, Baron our
singing Panther pan goes. The mainstream media doesn't watch the Panthers. Again,
this is about the player and coach vote. There's nothing
to do with about the mainstream media. Enough people know

(10:26):
about Derek Brown like he is in his fifth year sixth, sixth,
so he has played every team in the league, with
the exception of the ones that he missed while he
was hurt. I like to think that everyone has seen
what he can do at this point, like him getting

(10:48):
the Pro Bowl should be a period stop baseline. There's
nobody who does what he does better. If there is,
it's a short list, and I think Lendard Williams got
in because of sacks exactly. He got it because he
has seven. Derek Brown has only five, which, by the way,
five sacks for defensive tackles pretty damn good, Pretty darn good. Yeah,
you take that in the heartbeat for most defensive tackles.

(11:10):
I just I don't get it. Then again, this is
the same people. For as much as I don't take
the top one hundred votes seriously at all, but considering
how little a lot of players admitted, they just fill
out their friends and put it on there. When Derek
Brown had one hundred plus tackles two years ago, he
was on the top one hundred, So I don't know.
I think part of it's the position he plays, and
I I'm kind of left stunned. But considering how this

(11:34):
defense for as you know, much as we still gripe
about this defense, it's taking a big step forward in
a large part of that has to do with Derek
Brown being healthy this year, So I don't get it,
and the fact that it's not because of the fans
is what's frustrating, because the fans at least have recognized
a game, recognized the game there. When it comes to
the fans mentioned the Panthers are walking through today, one

(11:56):
of the very good developments is it looks like Ikey
Aquano is back with the squad practicing fully. Will get
a full report on whether or not it's actually full
or limited because it will be a simulated practice update
and status update because they're not doing a full practice today.

Speaker 3 (12:11):
Turk Wharton is still on the side. Again.

Speaker 2 (12:14):
We can get into the merits about whether or not
you want to see Ikey play or not against Seattle
based on how much or how not necessarily important this
game is in terms of the Panther's playoff hopes. Obviously,
the game next week is much more important. The Hornets
lose to the Cavs last night in a game that
quite frankly, I didn't think was going to be as

(12:36):
close as the score indicated.

Speaker 3 (12:38):
Or I'm sorry. It wasn't going to be.

Speaker 2 (12:40):
The score was not going to indicate, in my opinion,
during the fourth quarter how close the game was until
the bench mob basically went on a twenty to eight
run to close the game and end up making it
a seven point contest in a game where they trailed
by nineteen in the fourth quarter. It was a game
that I think Charles Lee kind of took off the
throat a little bit, knowing you had a second nut
of a back to back played the Wizards tonight game

(13:01):
a much more winnable game and uh and one where
after you lost Mason Plumbley, it was gonna be very,
very hard to stand up to the physicality and the
size that Cleveland brings to the table. A little bit
easier contest. They do have Sar, which will be difficult.
Kawk Brenner is questionable. We'll see whether or not that
can get upgrade at the probable and or available by
the end of the evening. I don't think you need

(13:23):
Calk Brenner to play a lot tonight in order to
beat the Wizards. Thinking if you get Musa in, you
can get some small ball medts in. Maybe Calk Brener
plays five to ten minutes and you can negotiate your
way through that. Mason Plumley lost last night to a groinstrain.
But other good injury news Colin Sexton looks like he
is back tonight, and some additional news on potential on
some potestionial rumors I should say, regarding him and potentially

(13:45):
move for Sexton too, a potential playoff for Ready team,
which we'll get into a little bit later. But like
you said, I think this was done more so to
UH protect today as opposed to UH conceding yesterday. Yeah,
and really the only major problem I had with last
night's performance was the turnovers, because they ended with nineteen,
which is not a great number, but like they had

(14:06):
eighteen after three quarters a lot like that's a lot
of turnovers to have in such a short amount of time.
So I think if you just if you played like
you did, you were as efficient as you were last night,
specifically from behind the arc, because everyone, I mean they
were fifty percent from behind the arc twenty one to
forty two. You take that nine times out of ten,
or actually ten times out of ten. LaMelo was efficient.

(14:27):
He was six to ten from behind the arc con
was con you got an efficient night from Brandon for
the most part. If you just play like you did
on offense last night tonight and limited turnovers to let's say,
cut them in half to ten, I think you win.

Speaker 3 (14:42):
Very much so.

Speaker 2 (14:43):
And a game that you make twenty one three pointers
and should be a game you win. But very very
rare scenario for the Hornets there they end up losing
by seven, They fall to nine and twenty on the season. Again,
they have the five win Wizards tonight. We'll get into
that game coming up bit later on. Of course, we'll
talk to Carl and Gay about the Hornets kind of
at large, and also some of the rumors surrounding Colin

(15:06):
Sexton and others. And at what point do you feel
is the breaking point for this season to try and
you see what you have and maybe punt on some
of the guys you might not have Boca Raton balls
going on right now, by the way, Louisville leading Toledo
seven to three with about four minutes ago second quarter
in Florida. The only reason I say that is to

(15:28):
give a shout out to our front nacally stroll line
is doing the game on the sidelines with ESPN, So
you just saw her in Louisville. It's kind of weird
that they're in the Boca Raton Bowl. There's a lot
of rumors about Jeff Brohm. Maybe what could be happening
after this bowl game. Saw something where it could be
announcing a contract extension. We've also seen stuff that he
could be on the radar of Michigan. So this whole

(15:50):
Michigan thing is opened. Everything wide open, and it feels
like they're running for the game at just like Penn State.
Just when we fought Penn State's coaching search was the worst,
Michigan be the worst.

Speaker 3 (16:01):
Dude.

Speaker 2 (16:01):
The fact that they still don't have a coach, I mean,
is is it gonna come down to Biff having to
do this.

Speaker 3 (16:07):
For a year? Honestly? I think it might, and I
think that's what they deserve.

Speaker 2 (16:14):
Well, because the problem is, and we'll get into this more,
but the problem is, what's the confidence level you have
that Ward Manual, the guy that's going to hire you,
is going to be there in the year. Because it
feels like he was covering up some stuff with Sharyl Moore. Well,
that's the thing. We don't have to necessarily go into
who deserves what, et cetera, and so on. But at

(16:34):
the same point in time, it does feel like Michigan
has kind of been feeling like some sort of Karnak
retribution is coming for them. I personally wish that a
little more Carmack rettribution would have came on LSU with
the way that they kind of handled some things at
the end of the Brian Kelly era. They end up
getting their prize in Lane Kiffin. Obviously, this is not
an apples to apples scenario comparing the two. I'm not

(16:56):
trying to, but at the same point in time, I
would like to see some, you know, some some differences involving,
you know, the way that they go about doing those things,
because right now they're trying to pluck some sitting head coaches.
Right now, a lot of these sitting head coaches already
got extensions. That's the part of it I don't like, uh.
And I say that as somebody who's who's head coach

(17:17):
did get an extension and is also part of the
rumor mill involving Michigan. H So from that perspective, it's
kind of like I thought, we already did this song
and dance and they're sitting there and my head coach
continues to get dragged through the drag through the rumor mill.
But at the same point in time, like you said,
might be kind of what they deserve based on just
kind of the things that they were accused of doing
and the cover ups that they were accused of having
when it came to the University of Michigan.

Speaker 3 (17:39):
It is.

Speaker 2 (17:39):
It is the Kyle Bailey Show, Sports for one to
two seven WFNZ. Willipee in for KB today and I'll
also be here on FRAUDA, so we'll have a lot
to get into with you. We'll get our chance to
kind of break down where we sit the last little
bit of the after glow of Sunday and looking ahead
to this upcoming weekend with the Panthers and the Seahawks. Next,
this is Sport Tridion nine to two seven WFNZ Sports

(18:09):
Radio ninety two seven WFNZ. That's very good, very good
from you. It's very very good from you. Heart of Laeve.
That movie is nearly forty years old. Now you're making
me feel very very old. Sorry I'm not quite that old,

(18:33):
but you make me feel old. Yeah, we can't age
all as gracefully as Tom Cruise. Well he let's be real,
he has some help, doesn't Oh yeah, yeah he does.

Speaker 3 (18:44):
He does.

Speaker 2 (18:45):
The both both Tom's are getting a lot of help
in the face. Okay, So who's the other Tom Brady?
Oh yeah, well Brady's. I think he's more noticeable than Cruise. Oh,
I think they're both pretty noticeable. Okay, if you if you,
if you look at Tom Cruise, he's well, I think
it's become more noticeable, well for Tom over the last
eight to ten years. But I'd say given Tom Cruise

(19:09):
at his age, when Brady he was Brady's age, I think.

Speaker 3 (19:12):
It was more noticeable. It's more noticeable for Tom with
his jawline.

Speaker 2 (19:16):
Why did you come back with Top Gun, by the way,
I don't know, just felt like you just wanted to,
just wanted to, Okay, I just I'm not angry about it.

Speaker 3 (19:24):
I just I didn't know if there was a motivation
or if you just I.

Speaker 2 (19:27):
Mean, it's not the most season, it's not really something
you hear daring to see Okay, his Top Gun Chris movie, No, No, Okay,
to be fair, I did walk by to Mix earlier
today and they were playing Kenny Loggins dangers on so
that probably got me. Yeah, I mean Kenny Loggins is
like the ultimate guilty pleasure artist.

Speaker 3 (19:46):
To listen to a couple of things.

Speaker 2 (19:48):
I want to read from the FanDuel text line, King
McQueen goes. Once Derek Brown decleat Sam done all the
way that Clowney did that Michigan quarterback, the NFL will
be put on notice and the ghost will reappear. How
about you know I was a running back by the
way it was. It wasn't a running it was. It
was that was the Outback Bowl, Yes, twenty thirteen Outback Bowl,

(20:11):
and that was the big decision. Has a single college
play made a guy more money and lore than that
play for Jadavian Clowney. No, it's incredible, not even close.
Like once that hit happened, he was number one pick
and the draft wasn't for him until fifteen months later.
People were I actually argued that was the first player
to argued that he should just sit out a year.

Speaker 3 (20:33):
All right, remember that up base card goes.

Speaker 2 (20:37):
While it's important to keep price upright, Ikey well not
great does a better job doing that than yosh Naiman. No,
I'm with you, I'm not Gonna. I'm not going to
say that there isn't a inherent advantage of having Ikey
back this week, But I also think too you could
run the risk of it. I mean, it came down
to and I don't know this one percent for a fact,

(21:00):
but Ikey told us all he was playing on Friday,
and he didn't play on Sunday, So obviously something happened
with a conversation from the head coach and the coaching staff.
I'm not saying that that injury got appreciably worse two
days later. Does he him back there on the practice
field on Tuesday? To me, that tells me there was
a conversation had and saying, you know what, we need

(21:21):
to make sure that you are ready for our most
important game that comes your way, maybe in the in
week eight team, we're going to try to risk it
in Week sixteen by not playing you to make sure
that you're okay to go for a game that's going
to mean everything. So from that perspective, again, I'm all right.
Kicking of the Marlin militia goes well. Robert Hunty back
by Tampa, he was again working on the side again.
I he would be shocked he had that cast that

(21:44):
little like not a cast, but you know where you
put it on top of you on your hand, it looked.

Speaker 3 (21:49):
Like it was tight.

Speaker 2 (21:50):
I am, you're gonna have to make a d playoff
run for me to believe he's actually gonna play Bebop.
Also asking about Grant Williams. Yeah, I know he put
that sweet out the other day. We have not heard
anything definitive yet on on a potential turn to play
for Grant. I would say, you're looking maybe around the
New year at some point, did you get what that

(22:11):
reference was from? DADDI tweeted it was it was from Batman?
Was it Dark Knight Rises?

Speaker 6 (22:16):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (22:16):
There you go your rise. Yeah see, I'm I'm hip
with it.

Speaker 7 (22:22):
Yo.

Speaker 2 (22:24):
I know that's usually your line. Yeah see, I can.
I can do those things too. How do you do,
fellow kids? Mud Studd goes, this is a good shout actually,
Doug Flutie, Boston College, Miami as a play that could
have defined you in the college, to get you a
little bit more low and money. I don't know if

(22:44):
it necessarily got to the point where Clowney did, but
definitely was one you look at and say, Cordell Stewart
Colorado was another one. Not like Jadeveon and Jon's hit
happened at the perfect time too, right because the internet
was really starting to become a big thing.

Speaker 5 (23:00):
Mm hmm.

Speaker 2 (23:01):
Makes me think, who's that wide receiver that caught that
pass against Severn miss at Alabama pro throw? Yeah, like
if that happened about five years later, he would have
probably gotten a lot more money.

Speaker 3 (23:10):
That was that?

Speaker 2 (23:11):
That uh, that was just referenced by somebody because of
the l MBA game the other night, seven four, five, seven, nine,
six ten. Let's go to Baron who wants to check in?
I'm leaving the phone lines open because it's the thirty
third of jit December, and if you're driving around you
want to chit chat, I'm leaving it open. You guys

(23:33):
can do whatever you want. Let's go as long as
you know Chris, Let's what's up, Maren? How are you
merry Christmas?

Speaker 5 (23:39):
Hey?

Speaker 4 (23:39):
Mary Christmas? I appreciate you. I'm driving from Stafsville to
Monroe and back, so woof yeah, I'm just twiddling my
throat thumbs on forty five.

Speaker 3 (23:47):
I got you? What do you got?

Speaker 5 (23:49):
So?

Speaker 4 (23:50):
I want to talk about Bryce Young, the Panthers and
then just the hornets real quick. So in terms of
Bryce Young, if anyone's ever heard me for the last
three years, I'm preaching the same thing. Bryce Young's pocket
presence since he was a rookie to now I think
is a deciding factor. I mean in terms of, you know,

(24:10):
his throwing. I don't know if there's that big of
a change, but his pocket presence. I remember the first
couple really a couple of years before Bryce, but even
his first year, you get any type of pressure and
the quarterback or Bryce would just kind of fold.

Speaker 3 (24:27):
Well, he used to run himself.

Speaker 2 (24:28):
He also used to run himself into sacks too, which
was a very unfortunate part of his early development of knowing, okay,
this is when I can roll, this is how I
can roll. And it was one of the things that also,
you know, Frank Wright, remember the quote from him. I
don't know if it necessarily was attributed directly to him

(24:49):
or if it was a source that attributed it to him,
but he said something to the effect of his footwork
is so bad, we're not even going to mess with
it in the first year.

Speaker 4 (24:57):
Correct, Yeah, I mean, but it's just like when when
you watch the games every week as I'm sure most.

Speaker 5 (25:05):
Of us do, but I do.

Speaker 4 (25:07):
You can just you can see such a difference. I mean,
in year three or year one, I'm a scale of
one to ten, he felt like a three, like he
didn't even deserve to be in the NFL. It was
third and eight and you already knew that we were
going to get a ten yard sack. I mean, it
was obvious. And so what I'm saying now is since

(25:27):
he came back from the benching and even to now
his pocket press, the pocket doesn't look really much better.
It's better, but not much better than it was. But
he's stepping into these lanes. He's finding his rhythm, he's
escaping the pressure. So in my opinion, like I'm on
Bryce's bandwagon because I see the improvement. Yeah, he was

(25:50):
pu poo when he came in the league, but the
improvement is so vast that I imagine three years from
now what he could be and I'm on board.

Speaker 3 (26:00):
I'm I'm with them.

Speaker 4 (26:02):
In terms of the Caroline of Panthers, as a fan
for the last ten years, it's been so frustrating to
watch the games. You got Jonathan and Vilma, you got
Mark Schlair, everyone that calls these games. They're slobbing the
knob for every other team if they if the team
makes a mistake, all it's okay. If the Panthers make

(26:24):
a mistake, you know what, they're just a fopy team.

Speaker 5 (26:28):
It's just it's.

Speaker 4 (26:29):
Hard to watch these games on TV because you know
what you're getting. You're getting a one hundred percent biased commentary.
So in terms of Derek Brown and the rest of
these Panthers, Derek Brown deserves to be up there. This
guy is the anchor, the core, the heart of this
Caroline of Panthers team. You can say, oh, he doesn't
have to taxis that third? There's other ways to affect

(26:50):
the game. And you watch his film and you see
what those other ways are.

Speaker 3 (26:55):
And in terms of the.

Speaker 4 (26:58):
In terms of the Hornets, I mean, I love Conk Nipple.
I love the Hornets. They're fun to watch, but they
don't have that killer aspect. And I mean, you watch
LaMelo ball and he's one of one, but then you
watch his injuries and he's also one of one. So
I don't know what the corn It should do. I mean,
you could trade LaMelo and get some pieces, but long

(27:20):
story short, co Nipple is the truth. Yes, and I'm
excited about what could happen, but I don't know if it.

Speaker 3 (27:29):
Includes LaMelo appreciate it. Baron, thank you so much.

Speaker 2 (27:33):
I wasn't gonna let you go that long just because
I got what out of the guys on here, which
is good. But also just from the standpoint, I'll attack
all three of those things that you said here briefly.
The Brice point very well taken. His elusivity in the
pocket and his ability to scramble is a definite, I
think contributor as to why he's become a lot better
in year number three, and also just the standpoint of

(27:57):
him being able to throw on the run. It's incredible
to a well, it has covered up a lot of
ills from the offensive line. I do also agree with
you that it does seem like there seems to be
this national narrative against the Panthers, although again having Luke
Kickley on London Night Football wasn't It wasn't something that
heard of the Panthers. He is very very good last
down on that alternate cast on ESPN two. Having Greg

(28:20):
Olsen spread the gospel, if you will, has helped as well.
In terms of the Hornets. We can get in a
little bit of this later on. You know, I want
to see it work with a mellow, I really do,
and I think that they at least owe it to
everyone around them. If you can get some kind of
extended run with him involved as your centerpiece, along with Brandon,

(28:40):
along with Kahn and along with some of these other
ancillary pieces, you have to see if it works. And
you know, if you can't get that, maybe you cut bait.
But we'll get into it a little bit later on
as we go throughout the program seven O four, five,
nine to six ten to good Nugget. Who's on the line,
and good Nugget, you're on WFNZ. Mery Christmas, ma' how
are you, Mary Christmas?

Speaker 7 (28:59):
Doing well? This is driving into work. I wanted to
talk to you about your thoughts on scoreboard. Watching this
Sunday with us playing at the same time as Tampa
Bay in Miami. If it looks like Tampa Bay is
running away with it, should we think about resting our
starters and saving them for week eighteen when it's gonna matter.
Because my heart says no, we need to protect you know,

(29:22):
the team has gone, oh, this is our layer.

Speaker 5 (29:24):
Protect it.

Speaker 7 (29:26):
We're doing phenomenal at home this year. I would want
to end our home series on a highlight, you know,
beating a number another number one seed. But at the
same time, I don't want to risk injuries to Icky, Bryce,
t Mac, you know, dB JC. I don't want to
risk injuries to those guys, just so that way we

(29:47):
can say, yeah, we won our home closer, and then
we get dog walked in Tampa Bay because I miss
out on the playoffs because we lost some of some
key pieces.

Speaker 5 (29:57):
I'm just curious your thoughts on it.

Speaker 2 (29:59):
Appreciate good nugget. The aspect of sitting players never sits
right with me, regardless of the circumstance, unless you've already
clinched your spot and there's no way of improving, you know,
or anything like that. I don't even know if I
like it in that sense, because I'm a big momentum guy,
and I just think just the act of do it like,

(30:21):
I'm okay if you like want to pull dudes, It's
very difficult to do that in the NFL because you're
only limited to forty six spots, but and there's eleven
for eight spot and then you basically you barely can
get it don't. You can't get back ups for everybody. Yeah,
but I think there's something to be said for going
through the act of preparation and doing it on the

(30:43):
field and pulling dudes after a certain point, kind of
like a preseason game essentially. Very much, that's kind of
like how you do it. I'd prefer it to be
that as opposed to let's just, you know, make twenty
dudes inactive and make fifteen practice squad elevation and play
again a glorified Week three preseason game. Look, in my opinion,

(31:05):
I kind of go back to what Ron Rivera did
in twenty fifteen, because, believe it or not, Carolina at
fourteen and one still didn't lock up the number one
seed heading into the final week because they had the
way out of the Cardinals and Seahawks game and they
were playing at the same time. So what did Ron
Rivera instruct? No one, and I mean no one was
able to see the score inside the stadium, and they

(31:27):
just they blocked out the noise of anything and they
just played their game. If I'm Dave Canalis, I can't
care about anything. You got to run your race. Also,
I think those dudes want to play, Yeah, at the
end of the day, they think they all want to play.
I don't think anybody wants to sit down and make
that happen. Also, you also remember the fact that your
bye is not too long ago. You got your rest.
I'm okay with it. I'm okay with you playing it out,

(31:50):
is what I meant to say. The Dean, who's on
the line? Dean, you're on WFNZ. How are you, Poe?

Speaker 8 (31:55):
How are you really?

Speaker 3 (31:56):
What's going on?

Speaker 7 (31:57):
Poe? Not that much.

Speaker 6 (31:59):
I just want to say of the Todd Bowles is
an absolute clown. What do you mean to tell me
that you're going.

Speaker 8 (32:05):
For the division, you're trying to eventually lock up a
playoff spot, and you're scouting playing is to look at
last year's football team, a team that had won only
five games, and by the way, the Panthers had already
won two more games than last year, and they still
had three games off the play That is why that
is absolutely filly statement by Todd Bowles.

Speaker 6 (32:28):
He's like, well, we scored this against the Panthers last year.
You're porting against the worst defense in the NFL history,
And the Jack Brown snub is absolutely ridiculous, And I'm
just gonna finish it by saying this.

Speaker 8 (32:41):
In North Carolina, we're always for the crown.

Speaker 2 (32:43):
Appreciate it man, Thank you, Dean. I also love that
for somebody who's named Dean as well. I was gonna
get into this a little bit at four o'clock because
I have a feeling that's going to be one of smokes.
What did you say is but that's an incredibly adine statement,
and I'm not sad that it tappening against us. It's
like a if that is your if that is your
way to plan. Thank you, do it again, Thank you again,

(33:07):
Thank you. Someone keep all the twenty twenty five fell
away from Todd Bowles. Let's go it again to week eighteen.
It's gonna work this time, guys, trust me. Let's go
to smoke on the headlines.

Speaker 3 (33:19):
Who is smoked? Where is smoked? Where there's smoke, there's fire.
Let's go all right.

Speaker 2 (33:27):
Wanted to give a quick bowl update the Boca Ratone
Bowl between Toledo and Louisville. Toledo is trailing Louisville seven
to three, and it still feels weird that Louisville's in
the Boca Ratone Bowl. Also, do you want to mention this,
This is pretty interesting in terms of ACC football. Not
only is Duke gonna get back Dari and Mensa for

(33:48):
next year, but according to Max Olson, Duke has also
re signed wide receiver Cooper Barcade, who they got from Harvard.
And if you didn't remember, if you don't remember, how
good Cooper Barcade was Duke this past year over one
thousand yards receiving from Harvard still seems weird saying that
these guys are re signing in college.

Speaker 3 (34:08):
I mean, it was gonna happen.

Speaker 2 (34:10):
I know, I know it's gonna takes some getting used to,
but it's gonna be the new norm. I hate to be.
I hate to be the old man in the room
when that. When comes to that, we'll come back. Nick
Carboni will join us w C and C Charlott his
usual Tuesday spot. It is a festive a edition Call
Bailey Show Sports rad at ninety two seven w f Z.

Speaker 3 (34:41):
Seven four nine six ten.

Speaker 2 (34:44):
Bright Young with one of the quotes today, when asked
about his twelve game winning drives, he said, it's not
just me out there. It's not like it's tennis, So
that's funny. Also, Babel, guys, already trying to start up
a scrap with me earlier today because I advocated for
bringing pressure and he said, well, Todd Bowles did that

(35:04):
and he got burnt. And I'm like, I think asking
for wide receivers not to play fifteen yards off the
line of scrimmage versus playing and engage eight cover zero defense,
There's there's a lot of wide berth between those two things.
Just saying okay, just saying is in that vein. We

(35:26):
now go to the guest line. We say hello to
our good friend Nick Carboni, who has battled Heaven, Earth
and apparently a very long Christmas shopping line to get
involved with us here today he joins us for a
December twenty third edition of the Kyle Bailey Show.

Speaker 3 (35:38):
What's Up Carboni? How are you Pale?

Speaker 5 (35:41):
Willie p In the words of job from Arrested Development
and many of my favorite Internet gifts and memes, I've
made a huge mistake. Oh no, I come to you
live from the Midtown Target parking garage.

Speaker 3 (35:53):
Ooh days before Christmas.

Speaker 5 (35:54):
I do it to myself and I want I may
need therapy to figure out why.

Speaker 3 (35:59):
I went to the super Target.

Speaker 2 (36:01):
I went to the Super Target in Indian Land today,
thinking that I was going to pick up name tags
and tissue paper and a Christmas card from my wife,
and it was a lot longer of a deal than
I thought it was going to be.

Speaker 5 (36:14):
Yeah, I choose the most. I chose a very local
hot spot as well. Earlier. This is why I texted
you and thought, you know, it might get dicey for
three forty five, but I made it across town and
then I read it a battle at Target after this call.

Speaker 2 (36:29):
So what is what is your sense of because this
is something that's been getting some play here today. The
fact that Dave Canalis is saying, we're not going to
be scoreboard watching this Seattle game. We're treating this like
it's an independent, standalone event. There are some people who
are wondering whether or not the Panthers should sit some
guys who might be iffy because of the fact that
you want to keep everybody healthy for uh uh, for

(36:52):
what's going on in week eighteen.

Speaker 5 (36:56):
One second was see I knew that would happen. Yes,
I totally understand the approach to the beginning of the
game and most of the game they both play at
one o'clock. You have to win. You want to win
at the beginning of the day, no matter what, because
you never know what can happen in Miami. But at

(37:19):
the end of the game, sure, Like if I'm Dave Canalis,
I wanted an over my headset like, hey, Miami's up three, Uh,
maybe we should go for this fourth down and use
it to rally the troops a little bit. So I
think there can be like a healthy inkling of what's
going on in Miami if you catch my drifts. And
but I don't think you go into the weekend like
planning wholesale changes because of that. I think the task

(37:42):
in hand is beat Seattle events. See if the rest
takes care of himself.

Speaker 2 (37:45):
This question I'm going to ask later is one that
I want to ask you. What has been the most
surprising thing about this run for the Panthers.

Speaker 5 (37:55):
That's a great question. I think that the defense has
a lot to do with a lot of the wins,
you know, game ceiling interceptions, game ceiling strip sacks. Obviously
that was not the case last season. It was a
team that couldn't come up with big plays and and
you know, be opportunistic and turn the ball over when

(38:17):
it counted and and obviously couldn't stop the run and
had trouble stopping you know, the pass as well. I
mean to see Mike Evans kind of limited to that
one fantastic touchdown throw and catch, But really that's that's
the biggest amount of damage he in that receiving corps.
Did you know that that speaks values of how the

(38:38):
defense is improved too. And I know there's questions about
the team and as he Guerrero the guy they want
their next year, so they'd be more aggressive in this
than that. But you know, given the personnel, uh you know,
I think they need a little bit more on that
side of the ball. But I think the defense being
able to hold teams to you know, twenty points like
the other day, and and shut out Atlanta and and

(39:00):
come up with with game saving stops against good teams,
uh is has been a huge part of this. And
if you had told me that going into the season,
coming out of last year, I would have kind of
told you to hold your horses it.

Speaker 2 (39:13):
We actually have a Texter right now who said my
wife is currently the Midtown target.

Speaker 5 (39:17):
That's everybody here except you, Willie. I'm pretty sure.

Speaker 2 (39:21):
As when I when I used to live in Uptown.
That Midtown Target became the bane of my existence for
a couple of years, because if you need something over there,
you know, it's no it's it's no less than an hour,
even if you live like five to ten minutes away.

Speaker 5 (39:35):
The parking the parking deck, it needs traffic plays that
would make it better.

Speaker 2 (39:40):
The part the parking deck needs to be reconfigured into
like a party thing, like like could it could this
be Charlotte's next speakeasy the parking deck at the Midtown Target?

Speaker 5 (39:49):
Yeah, there you go.

Speaker 2 (39:51):
I might have just inadvertently backed into a business idea
for somebody.

Speaker 3 (39:55):
Uh n CARBONI, W C and C Charlotte joining us U.

Speaker 2 (40:01):
This part of the question I find incredibly fascinating because
we got to the point in the offseason what we say,
you know what, to heck with the record, to heck
with anything. We need to know whether or not Bryce
Young is the guy by the end of this season.
As we sit two games left in the twenty twenty
five season, I feel like we can say Bryce Young

(40:21):
is the guy for now next season and even also
getting himself a fifth year option. How confident are you
that there is a future for him beyond.

Speaker 5 (40:31):
That, you know, I think that part is still up
in the air. Beyond that fifth year option. I think
he's earned the fifth year option, like you just said,
I think it's you know, for a variety of reasons,
based on the way he's played, based on you know,
some of the highlights this year and the ups have
been higher than the the highlights and the ups in
previous seasons, but they still have come with some.

Speaker 3 (40:52):
Of the downs.

Speaker 5 (40:54):
But you know, I think that he's still got to
play his way into that extension talk, and that's probably know,
with a really good start keyword there, start because of
the way the last couple of seasons have started. You know,
he could play his way into that kind of extension
if Dan Morgan wants to get ahead of the money.
But you know, it just depends on how you qualify

(41:14):
the guy. You kind of did it there, Like he's
definitely done enough to get that fifty year option and
for the Panthers to you know, say, well, we don't
have to step on the quarterback carousel, you know, at
least the next couple of years. And that's a healthy
thing to have for a franchise. So obviously I'm saying
give in for the the I think the pen is
sitting on the paper for the fifth year, just not

(41:36):
no inks to paper until the deadline. But you know,
I still think he's got to play his way into
that that big money, that extension.

Speaker 2 (41:43):
I'm seeing Derek Brown speaking to the media right now
and it wasn't quite expletive written, but there was definitely
some expletives thrown out by Derek Brown for him not
making the Pro Bowl. I just ask you, simply, will
Derek Brown kill somebody in the next two weeks on
the football field?

Speaker 5 (42:01):
You know this, This may be what it takes to
finish this thing off a more pissed off Derek Brown.

Speaker 7 (42:09):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (42:09):
And I just say more because I think that's just
how he plays anyway.

Speaker 4 (42:12):
Sure he's a delight.

Speaker 5 (42:13):
To deal with and speak to, but you know, I
wouldn't be on the wrong side, wouldn't be on the
wrong side of him in mattuh gridirir. But yeah, I mean,
what is the Pro Bowl?

Speaker 1 (42:23):
Like?

Speaker 6 (42:24):
What is it now?

Speaker 5 (42:24):
It's an NFL gill player basically all starting, So like,
let's just call it that and call and still reserve
Pro Bowl like on paper as a pretty good honor.
Not quite all pro but something that you can, you know,
boast on your resume, and he should absolutely be able
to call himself that. It's ridiculous and obviously, uh looks

(42:48):
like no alternates for defensive tackles, so there's no way,
there's no path, which is absurd. I mean Jordan Davis,
Charlotte cad up in Philly, same deal. Yeah, just call
it something else. And I still think to be able
to call somebody a pro bowler means you're one of
the best at your position, not you know you you
kind of fit the roster construction for an All Star
flag football game.

Speaker 2 (43:09):
Dick Carboni WC and see Charlotte. I will uh not
see you Somenday in the press box because I'll be
uh watching with the commoners, but uh, I will see
you at some point in the new year. And appreciate
all you do for us, uh coming on this program
and uh being a great partisan member of the Charlotte media.
We appreciate you as always.

Speaker 5 (43:28):
Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas, buddy, thanks a lot, thanks for
having me.

Speaker 2 (43:32):
That is uh is Nick Carboni joining us here? A
bagel guy goes, I got to go to the Midtown
Target for a Christmas dress for the baby. Yeah, do
not go to the Midtown Target, apparently, because the entire
world is there. You've you've obviously been to the Midtown Target.

Speaker 3 (43:50):
Yes, I have Charlotte, you know, the best buy around
that area too. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (43:55):
M hm.

Speaker 3 (43:55):
That parking deck yet not great, and I can only imagine.

Speaker 2 (44:00):
I'd venture to say at least two years of my
life have been lost because of that parking deck. Two years.
I won't go that far, but I could see it.
I could definitely see it. Weather mag Marcos. I'm so
tired of giving ever All a pass. Look, man, chief

(44:20):
and Vero Basher with my hand raised, this is not
This is not the week to be giving a zero
a Vero any flack. Okay, His defense came up with
the biggest play of the season with Lathan Ransom getting
an interception, and they got off the field twice for
field goals when you absolutely needed them to do so,
this is not the week to be on Everro's behind.
The defense also got massive turnovers against the Rams that

(44:43):
won that game. Mm hmmm, Well again he's reacting I
think more to what happened against New Orleans and and
again there's there's there's definite reasons to be angry about
some parts of it. Again, I'd like to see more
pass rush, as with a lot of people. But at
the same point in time, like I said, this is
the week to be airing your everell grievances. We'll come
back best audio in the world of sports when we return.

(45:06):
Todd Bowles sounds like he's talking out of his behind,
which is good for US Sports twenty nine two seven
