Speaker 2 (00:44):
Juiced to be here.
Speaker 4 (00:45):
Yeah, let's run back the third hour.
Speaker 2 (00:47):
Love that.
Speaker 4 (00:48):
Oh, we're gonna get it popping.
Speaker 3 (00:49):
Absolutely, And there's a lot to get to in our
conversation today, is there? I don't know you tell me, Tony,
what are you thinking about? What do you want to talk?
I'm looking forward to questions.
Speaker 4 (01:00):
Got the readers out right, I can't see anything.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
So for those cheaters the microphone. You're ready, act like
you've been here, you show mean, come on, all right?
Speaker 3 (01:15):
So I saw I'm a two and a half power
guy on the cheaters, one of those like fives.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
No, no, no, they're twos there twos.
Speaker 4 (01:23):
I feel out of place here where you're.
Speaker 3 (01:25):
Like, you don't you don't you have the only only
one not wearing glasses.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
You got fifteen years still about until you got to
worry about it?
Speaker 4 (01:31):
How enjoy it?
Speaker 2 (01:32):
I can? It is coming, It's coming.
Speaker 5 (01:36):
Will I say the same thing about my metabolism. It'll
it'll catch up at some point.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
Speaking of what did you look at me for?
Speaker 3 (01:43):
No?
Speaker 2 (01:43):
What the hell's that about?
Speaker 3 (01:44):
It?
Speaker 2 (01:45):
I mean, I say it, Come on, man, I don't
want to state the obvious.
Speaker 4 (01:49):
Another one of our competitions, right, what.
Speaker 2 (01:52):
Do you mean what?
Speaker 6 (01:53):
I've never seen somebody eat the way James.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
Glads, Oh yeah, you've seen that before. No, and not
gain a single pound the other day. I can't even
describe what he ate, but it was brutal. It was
like thirty minutes of entree, dessert, entree, dessert, entree, dessert.
Speaker 3 (02:18):
Just back to do salad, nothing else, And some days
we'll be go and I'll get to hell. What did
you just said? Multiple desserts a single sitting.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
Yeah, so he goes and go cake, pie, cobbler.
Speaker 6 (02:34):
And then walking and he always grabs cookies or he's
eating cookies. Were walking to the stairs upstairs, We get
to the door to go stairs, he's like, I want
to know cookie, walks back and go get more cookies
to come back.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
So that was that officially, four desserts.
Speaker 4 (02:49):
Two desserts, and that might have been two separate sessions.
Speaker 6 (02:52):
Sessions, but he's unstoppable and the dude does not gain
one pound right that way?
Speaker 3 (02:57):
What was your playing with that?
Speaker 2 (03:02):
Let's go let's go back to the content.
Speaker 5 (03:04):
If it were the listed weight versus the reality weight.
Speaker 4 (03:08):
Yeah, there're two different things.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
Okay.
Speaker 5 (03:10):
Listed weight was probably plus give or take one sixty five.
Speaker 4 (03:15):
A couple playing weight was under one fifty.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
Really, oh yeah, nice.
Speaker 3 (03:20):
So you had the old high school trick, let's inflate
the numbers a little bit.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
Yeah, every number you I mean, when.
Speaker 5 (03:27):
Your dad's the play caller, right, you're talking about truly inflated.
You're getting plugged with the football right as a pass catcher.
So it was definitely inflation.
Speaker 3 (03:36):
All right, so along those lines, I got I got
a question to ask because in front of the sally
is the game board.
Speaker 4 (03:44):
Okay, and uh.
Speaker 3 (03:46):
There's players you know what at school they went to
a year, they're in their height, weight. And the one
thing that I noticed, because I was using my board
from last year and then was making the new one
this year, there was a lot of players on the
Jaguars roster that somehow became shorter, and some of them
might have changed the weight a little bit. But how
(04:09):
do guys get shorter from one year to the next.
Did we finally have a reporting of true height?
Speaker 4 (04:17):
That's an interesting one.
Speaker 2 (04:18):
I have no idea.
Speaker 4 (04:19):
We got a new ruler in the weight room.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
Yeah, maybe we're using the metrics system. I was just wondering.
I would guess once a player is in, you don't
really think about it anymore.
Speaker 6 (04:28):
I'll be completely honest. I don't look at how what
how tall they are. I might look at the weight
to see who's overweight from what they're supposed to be,
But I could not, like unmust James. Maybe he's changing
the right way, but I don't. I couldn't tell you
how kind The only person I know who how tall
he is is Fred Johnson? Because he's the only one
taller than me, so I could tell you how tall
(04:50):
anyone else is looking.
Speaker 3 (04:52):
At By the way, a lot of people may be
wondering what position that that you played?
Speaker 4 (04:57):
I tried playing wide out.
Speaker 2 (04:59):
You didn't try? You did?
Speaker 6 (05:01):
First of all, has anyone ever seen the highlights from
high school with.
Speaker 4 (05:05):
Him Country Scars?
Speaker 2 (05:08):
Dude? They're awesome? Hey play him next week?
Speaker 6 (05:14):
Like what I mean, I can't remember where they were,
but so one of our fans like search the archives
and pulled them out and they are legitimate highlights.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
Is he possession receiver? Is he a good rap big receiver?
Speaker 6 (05:28):
Like hands out of really like if it's touching the hands,
it's caught.
Speaker 2 (05:33):
But also dB both ways.
Speaker 6 (05:37):
Now, he did highlight one thing that I did not
pick up as I was watching these videos.
Speaker 4 (05:41):
See any tack you.
Speaker 2 (05:42):
Notice you saw new tackles A good pointed.
Speaker 5 (05:47):
I was out there on you know, some some known
passing down. But like we say, Tony, don't get fooled
by the playlist, right, you gotta watch the.
Speaker 2 (05:57):
Watch, watch the tape. It's a fun little clip though.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
Well, there will be some tape from this game on
Saturday night the Steelers and the Jaguars coming up. Liam
Cohen today said the Jaguars will play, and he said
that really kind of There was a few guys that
nudged him over that decision, and Hainesy was one of those.
Basically in the locker and the weight room was like, hey,
what are we doing? Like, we need to play. And
(06:22):
that's a good sign when the locker room's telling you
we want to go play and learn both sides of.
Speaker 2 (06:27):
The ball, right, agreed.
Speaker 5 (06:28):
I think this is going to be a great next
step in the process of creating who this team and
their identity is going to be.
Speaker 4 (06:37):
I think this is a telling piece to the puzzle.
Speaker 5 (06:40):
When you got players who were initiating that trigger, we
were entertaining a number of different thoughts in the lead
up to this decision internally, and I think that was
a big part of the why we ended up going
this direction. At the end of the day, we're going
to have to face an opponent who we're unfamiliar with
one week to the next, and this is a great
(07:00):
opportunity for our players, our coaches, and our staff to
get prepared for that.
Speaker 2 (07:04):
You know.
Speaker 3 (07:06):
I was just kind of interesting because when when I
heard what the decision was. First thought kind of goes
back to from a player standpoint is that as a player,
you want to know in advance whether you're going to
play or not and give me an idea just because
mentally you want to get ready for it. Because you
(07:26):
know I was telling JP this earlier, is that you
know they have the old saying that you know your
game face, your your game state of mind, all those
things are real because sometimes it takes you need to
take yourself to a little bit different place sometimes get
ready to play a game.
Speaker 6 (07:42):
Preach well, I think I think it's uh, this year
is a little bit different. I think for everyone in
the building because everything is brand new. We have a
bunch of brand new faces, new system, how operation, how
we're doing things, and expectations. So I think it's important
more than ever. And I think that's where you're also
see guys come in and say, hey, we want to
(08:02):
play like we want to be out there. But I
do agree one hundred percent, Jeff. As you get moved
through the process year after year, and even we go
through this process in the preseason, it's important to communicate
to our players so that they can prepare themselves and
especially for our veterans because listen, I know for me
it's a preseason was a challenge because as a veteran player,
(08:24):
you might be trying to achieve something completely different than
a guy, a young player trying to fight for a
roster spot. Like when you and I are veterans, we're
getting trying to prepare ourselves for the regular season, and
so that's a different mindset. You still have to get
in game mode because it's live and people can get
hurt if you're not playing at your best, no doubt
(08:45):
about us. So you have to get to a level
that's wildly different than a guy who is a rookie
trying to earn a spot or a back end roster
guy who's like he is fighting for his life. And
so they're going into that game much like we would
in a regular season game with that mentality like hey,
it means everything. And so to give our veterans the
(09:06):
opportunity to say, hey, you are playing and this is
like this is the plan, so that they can get
their minds going and prepare for what they're about to
encounter and get in the right headspace. Football is a
dangerous game, and you want to make sure everyone's ready
to go play the game the right way, because when
you don't play it the right way, that's when people
get hurt.
Speaker 2 (09:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (09:26):
The one thing I never liked as a coach would
tell you, hey, look, you know you're going to play
you about twelve to fourteen snaps and in your mind
you got this, that's three, that's four five.
Speaker 2 (09:39):
Tell me you're doing the very thing you shouldn't do.
Why to me? Why to me?
Speaker 3 (09:43):
Just say you're going to probably play thirty snaps and
then take me out after twelve or something like that.
You know, but don't give me a Just.
Speaker 2 (09:50):
Say you're playing the first half, yeah, and then you know,
and then take me out. That's our first quarter. I'm
okay with it. Whatever.
Speaker 3 (09:56):
Just give me something that's bigger than what it's expected.
You know what when this decision came about, I mean,
did the three of you guys sit down together it
kind of come to a consensus on it, or how
did it come to this?
Speaker 5 (10:07):
Ultimately it's going to be Liam's decision. In these types
of instances, we'll provide our perspective and insights. You think
back to where Liam and I both got started in
the NFL.
Speaker 4 (10:17):
We were part of probably the.
Speaker 5 (10:19):
Trend of not having starters and even contributors known contributors
perform in the preseason. We leveraged joint practices when we
were with the La Rams and we had our primary
ones and twos not participate in preseason games. And so
last year he got some exposure to having the offensive
line in particular in Tampa Bay get some preseason ops
(10:42):
because there were some moving parts. Because there were you know,
it was a chance in their eyes to get on
the same page. Because that's a position group in particular
where all five working in conjunction is going to be
far greater than any one individual performing at a high level.
And I think just that game feel and in this
specific team that we're playing this upcoming weekend, it gives
(11:03):
us a different defensive structure to go against versus what
we've been facing on a daily basis here in training camp.
So that even allows for a step, even if it
shows it presents challenges, hurdles things like that to address
now rather than in real time in the season. Those
are things that can be very very helpful and ultimately
lead to major growth opportunities between now and when we
(11:26):
kick off.
Speaker 3 (11:27):
You bring up a great point about Okay, you're a
four to three defense in Pittsburgh Steelers has been three
four forever yep. And here's a chance to see a
different scheme and then also some different body types for
your offense. And that's that's a great opportunity. And on
top of just playing against different players, which is always good.
(11:48):
You know, a different scheme, a different style, a different
body type is always good.
Speaker 2 (11:53):
I like that. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (11:53):
I want to go back to the question you asked
of like how do we come to the decisions? I
think it's important to highlight for our fans get asked
all the time like how do you like whether it
was the draft or free agency or your question there.
It's a great question. I think one of the things
that is really important to James, Liam and I is
understand everyone. All three of us understand each of our
(12:14):
roles and respect that. And so while in this decision
it is one hundred percent Liam Cohen's decision whether our
starters are in play or not. The great thing about
the relationship that we're building and have built to this point,
that's built on trust and so Liam getting input and
takes that input. James gives his perspective of what he believes.
I have a perspective that might be the same or
(12:36):
different coming from a different vantage point. All valuable, not
saying one's better than the other. But I think what
I've found fun is that you have the individual. In
this case, it's Liam his decision to make no difference
in the draft. When we decided trade picks away to
go pick Travis Hunter, that was James's decision. Ultimately he
had to make the final call at the same time
(12:57):
getting input from the group, having that kind of collaboration
and talking through any situation, but then also being comfortable
and all of us being comfortable and respectful to say, hey,
this is Liam's decision, and whatever that decision is, hey,
we're in it together. We're gonna stand by it, and
we're going to march forward based on what you decide.
No different than the draft free agency, very clear, the
(13:21):
roles are clear. But then at the same time, the collaboration.
I think that's important for our fans to understand is
we go through these decisions. Whatever that decision is, it
might be made by an individual who's ultimately responsible, but
it's done in collaboration, with trust and support, and then
we're going to live or die by whatever that decision is,
because we trust Liam as our head coach and he
has the best feel for the team, what's happening on
(13:43):
the practice field. The state of the player is what
he needs to get and his coaches need to get
out of the players to prepare for opening day against Carolina.
Speaker 3 (13:52):
Guys, let's come back in a moment. Let's get into
some highlights of the week. A couple padded practices this week,
some standout players.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
Physical Carnage on the feel. I love it. Oh, we'll
get into that. I love Carnwage. Jump back.
Speaker 3 (14:05):
Who doesn't I enjoy It's a physical game, Tony. Some
have said that it needs to be back in the moment.
It's the Liam Cohen Show on the Jaguars Radio Network.
Speaker 2 (14:20):
Welcome Back.
Speaker 1 (14:21):

Speaker 3 (14:50):
You know, Tony has couch access, He has a private couch.
Speaker 2 (14:54):
He looks directly at Tony. You know, I've not sat
at the couch for three or four years now.
Speaker 3 (14:59):
No, it's not a at the couch. It's I haven't
sat there. There's a plaque out.
Speaker 2 (15:04):
There's no plaque. I've been up to the terrace late
every other week.
Speaker 4 (15:07):
He's like, yeah, I'm going to a concerts.
Speaker 2 (15:08):
Gosh, I hadn't gotten that's an exaggeration. That might be
a little bit of a to go to an event
and take my place. Last night he turned it down.
Let me guess. It wasn't the couch.
Speaker 4 (15:21):
It wasn't. No, it wasn't.
Speaker 2 (15:22):
It was a lovely evening with my wife. Yes it was.
Speaker 4 (15:26):
It was tutorial on.
Speaker 2 (15:31):
We're good, We're just fun.
Speaker 6 (15:33):
But Daily's is a great place to watch concert there's
I literally have not been on the couch for a while.
Speaker 2 (15:39):
I got to get back on the couch. I mean,
you promised it to us like years ago. I know,
but then I lost privileges and I don't know what
I did to lo This.
Speaker 4 (15:45):
Is a lounge area.
Speaker 3 (15:47):
There's like front rollers, right, it's the it's perfect bottom
tier in the back.
Speaker 6 (15:55):
You have these beautiful couches with a perfect view, eye
level view of the stage and it sounds amazing.
Speaker 5 (16:02):
My wife had a chance to go and she she
was raving about it.
Speaker 4 (16:05):
I think it was.
Speaker 2 (16:07):
So she's been and you haven't even been invited.
Speaker 4 (16:10):
I haven't been invited.
Speaker 2 (16:11):
But maybe the next question you should ask James, would
you go if you were invited?
Speaker 4 (16:17):
That's there's layers to that. Yeah, there's layers to that. Response.
Speaker 2 (16:23):
Take a little different here. What what do you mean layers?
Speaker 4 (16:28):
It's not a black and white yes and no default.
Speaker 5 (16:32):
Usually most things on planet Earth there's a little bit
of gray space, and this is.
Speaker 4 (16:36):
One of them.
Speaker 2 (16:37):
So you don't you don't live like live music?
Speaker 5 (16:39):
I do, I'll probably it will It depends on probably
who's the tardist.
Speaker 2 (16:45):
Yeah, actual, simple question. Who I'm going going down the path?
This is a rabbit hole.
Speaker 3 (16:50):
It sounds like the rules we just saw just or
heard just a minute ago off the air.
Speaker 2 (16:54):
Are there rules to a concert going.
Speaker 4 (16:56):
To No, there are no rules, no rules. No, it
is all all open. I'm open to.
Speaker 2 (17:02):
The greatest chore you've ever seen.
Speaker 4 (17:04):
Oh my gosh, do you want to James?
Speaker 2 (17:08):
I the question?
Speaker 4 (17:10):
Ask me about things outside of football.
Speaker 2 (17:14):
Anything that does not have to do with football. If
you ask him, there's no talent we're going to get
as an answer.
Speaker 4 (17:20):
Gosh, No, that's a yeah. Let's not go down there
because I don't have an answer.
Speaker 2 (17:24):
Okay, we're gonna come off that path and go down another.
Speaker 3 (17:27):
Our crack research staff during the break went and found
James Gladstone.
Speaker 2 (17:32):
Highlight.
Speaker 3 (17:34):
If you're watching Jaguars, he's wearing number four and leading
the team out of the tunnel.
Speaker 2 (17:39):
He's a cow. He's playing on defense. Just an interceptions.
Speaker 4 (17:45):
QB was pretty good, made life.
Speaker 2 (17:47):
Easy touchdown and it's two feet in. Who is your quarterback?
Speaker 4 (17:51):
You know what?
Speaker 1 (17:51):
That was?
Speaker 4 (17:52):
It? Guy by the name of Dalton Hewitt.
Speaker 5 (17:54):
He was a freshman when I was a sophomore. He
was actually the reason why I moved to wide receiver.
Speaker 2 (18:03):
Okay, another pick.
Speaker 5 (18:06):
So you were a two way player again, known passing
downs defensively.
Speaker 2 (18:11):
Yeah, so you were Travis Hunter before Travis Hunter.
Speaker 5 (18:13):
No, so this was Yes, I'm thankful that they did
not have the low lights, that's for sure.
Speaker 2 (18:20):
That's awesome staff digging it.
Speaker 4 (18:24):
Out of the depths of YouTube. Let's go.
Speaker 2 (18:27):
Yeah, this is this will be cherished for a long time.
Speaker 6 (18:31):
Yeah, you guys diving in Nothing better than Friday night football.
Speaker 2 (18:36):
In high school.
Speaker 4 (18:37):
That's the truth.
Speaker 2 (18:38):
I'm telling you. I'm being honest. There's nothing better.
Speaker 4 (18:40):
That's the truth.
Speaker 2 (18:41):
Guys.
Speaker 3 (18:42):
Yeah, let's touch on some of the highlights of practice
this week. And Tony you said physical practices too, padded
practice Tuesday Wednesday, and Liam Cohen, Trevor Lawrence, some of
the guys said after it wasn't the best offensive day
Tuesday overall, but that feels like they bounce back on Wednesday.
But take us a little more on the physicality part
(19:02):
of what you liked and saw well.
Speaker 6 (19:04):
I mean, I think, first of all, typically in a
practice and no different than when Jeff and I played,
one side is gonna feel better about that day than
the other. And Tuesday was a day the defense probably
felt a little bit better. They had a good day,
they played well and offensively, probably a little bit of
frustration and when you're head coaches and offensive side of
the ball. I mean, you know, that's the way it goes.
(19:25):
And so there's an emphasis going into the next day
for the offense saying hey, and we have leaders on
that offense that have a lot of pride, guys like
Robert Hainsey, guys who like, hey, this is important Trevor,
like we need to step up. And I think what
was fun for me and especially as an offensive lineman,
watching them come out Wednesday and while our defense was
still very physical, really coming up and step up the game,
(19:48):
being physical in the run game, just all around.
Speaker 2 (19:51):
And we had some plays that were highlighted by.
Speaker 6 (19:53):
Coach in the team meeting room where there were good
learnings and good moments on both sides of the ball
within a single play where you could really see the
physicality to the line of scrimmage, the backs going downhill,
receivers coming up and getting into the run game and
blocking and being physical some great throws by Trevor in
the past game. So I think the only way you
(20:16):
can be a physical team is you have to practice physically.
And I think this team this camp, and I give
Liam and our staff a ton of credit on this
because of the point of emphasis in the offseason. They
talked about it constantly. It was a point of emphasis
at the start of camp of what is expected, what's
the standard, the style of play we want. Liam does
(20:37):
a great job communicating to our players in every setting, team, meeting, field,
and our players have responded and taken ownership of that.
And you don't know until you see it on the grass.
And to see that last week as we got into
pads this week continued guys are tired, it's hot, it's
hard to rise to the occasion and come out and
(20:58):
play that way. I think that's a good sign. And
Saturday night's the next test that Jeff talked about it.
Different bodies, different jerseys, body types, different fronts, three four
structure and seven four to three structure. It's another opportunity
we're going to learn about who we are and ultimately
all building to the climax kicking it off in September
(21:19):
when now we're keeping score and you find out you
have adversity, and you find out who you are as
a team, what's your identity and how do you respond
to every opportunity you have? So these are all building blocks,
but it was fun. It's a good physical football, run game,
getting after it, guys just crushing each other. It was
a lot of fun to watch them.
Speaker 3 (21:38):
I want to go back to Friday Night because the
whole night impressed me. Number one is that you have
a real scrimmage ninety one plays. I mean a lot
of volume, ninety one plays, and it was quality plays.
It wasn't let's do a walk through play here and
do a half tempo play here. This was live tempo,
(22:02):
with the exception of bringing the ball carriers.
Speaker 2 (22:04):
Down to the a couple of plays, guys did take
guys down.
Speaker 3 (22:08):
Yeah, don't say that too much now you'll get in trouble.
But I thought that that that was impressive Number one.
But number two, these were ninety one unscripted plays for
the most part. I'm sure I'm counting a special teams
play in there, but I've never seen a scrimmage to
where a coach goes into it with plays that are unscripted,
(22:29):
to where the offensive staff has a play in mind
that they want to run. The defensive staff just knows.
All they know is the personnel and the down and distance,
and they're making a play call. I thought that was
a great exercise in game day management. Above and beyond. Hey,
let's figure out where we stretch before.
Speaker 4 (22:47):
The game, the mechanics.
Speaker 5 (22:48):
Yeah, now, I think all this and there's not much
to add to what Tony already had articulated with what
we've seen from this week's practices. Really, as we get
into this next phase off the heels of last Friday
Nights mock game, we're hunting up a clean brand of
ball and you see everything that's been articulated from our
(23:08):
coaching staff in the meetings starting to show up on
the grass. Players starting to bring it to life, really
embrace it and body it. And I think as we
get out to Saturday night for kickoff, you're looking for
as the physical demands continue to level up, where does
the mental fortitude find itself? Are we able to maintain
that clean brand of football? Are their penalties? Are their
(23:31):
mental errors? Are they're not?
Speaker 4 (23:33):
Are we able to.
Speaker 5 (23:34):
Operate on a plane that fits the bill for what
we set the standard, the expectations and look forward to
seeing that all unfold here and certainly through failures through
successes over the course of a training camp, you start
to build some version of callus and a little bit
(23:54):
more stability, and hopefully that shows itself when the lights
turn bright.
Speaker 6 (23:58):
So plus we're going to see tackling. Yeah, so that's
another downpoint. So right now we've been in thud and
so you're like, yeah, we think it's a good run
and we're going to get to the second level. But
the guy who got an arm tackle, can he bring
our guy down or does the back run through it?
Another we talk about James talked.
Speaker 3 (24:17):
To there's been a really tony you know this. There's
been a lot of really good tag tacklers, very.
Speaker 6 (24:22):
Good tag tacklers, but Anthony Cappinelli are defense great. It's
been a point of emphasis from day one. They do
a lot of drill work on it. They drill it
over and over about tackling. Well, this is the first
time we're actually gonna see it come to fruition. And
it's another thing. We talk about mental airs, we talk
about penalties. Miss tackles is another thing. That's how you
(24:45):
Sometimes the difference between winning and losing a football game
is how you tackle. It's an opportunity for us to
go out there against other bodies in a real football
game and say how do we perform that task because
we don't know yet at the end of the day.
Speaker 2 (25:00):
We just don't know because we haven't.
Speaker 5 (25:01):
Done it yet, and obviously Saturday night isn't the end
of the story. That's another chance for our players and
coaches to level up, work off of that opportunity, and
continue to grow before ultimately we get to the regular season.
Speaker 3 (25:16):
Let's come back in a moment, final thoughts with the
James Gladstone and Tony Busselli on the Liam Cohen Show
on Jaguars Radio.
Speaker 2 (25:30):
Welcome Back.
Speaker 1 (25:31):
The Liam Cohen Show, presented by Fresh from Florida continues
right now.
Speaker 3 (25:36):
Welcome Back on the Jaguars Radio Network. Final Moments with
James Gladstone and Tony Bisseli, JP Shadick with Jeff Loghman.
The preseason Week one matchup against the Steelers Saturday night,
seven o'clock and it's presented by Wolson Children's, the official
children's hospital of the Jacksonville Jaguars. We'll go through some
of the updated entry points to the stadium for fans
(25:57):
a little bit later in the show. But it's got
to be exciting to finally get under the lights and
some real football. I know, James, you talked about this.
You want to see some real football. You're going to
see it on Saturday night.
Speaker 4 (26:08):
Finally, Yeah, as long as I can find my way
to the field. I know he walked in with you
really minute here?
Speaker 2 (26:16):
Was that your first It might have been one of
your first times in there.
Speaker 5 (26:19):
Ye's right, that's right, Oh yeah, it's it's it's been
enjoyable getting to know the lay of the lands, so
to speak.
Speaker 6 (26:24):
And uh, it's like where should we watch upstairs or
on the field. I'm like, let's watch them stairs. We
see everything. He's like, well, how long is it going
to take us to get down? Like about you don't
want to miss a snap?
Speaker 2 (26:34):
About a minute? Wells working?
Speaker 6 (26:37):
I had to confer elevators working there are everything will
be working Saturday night.
Speaker 3 (26:42):
They didn't work for a little while the other night,
but they got going. They got them going.
Speaker 2 (26:45):
Eventually every entry open here.
Speaker 6 (26:47):
The facilities team did a great job under Chad Johnson.
Speaker 2 (26:50):
They did.
Speaker 6 (26:51):
I mean the amount of work they've done at that
stadium and how they've gotten it ready for our fans
and our players, like hats off. Friday night was an
amazing You mentioned that it was on the field, but
also I want to highlight what our staff did behind
the scenes to make it a good experience for our fans,
but also our players and their families, just first class.
(27:11):
Looking forward to Saturday night. A lot of work has
been done by Chad and his entire team to make
sure the facility is ready for our fans, players, coaches,
and so it was a good test run make sure
all the kinks are out, all the wires are connected,
because a lot of construction's been going on. So looking
forward to Saturday night and looking forward to making sure
(27:34):
the GM gets to the right spot, and.
Speaker 3 (27:37):
Just to heads up for all the people listening out there,
this is going to be an evolving, changing situation throughout
the course of the year with some of.
Speaker 6 (27:44):
The I think prior during preseason, this first game, I
think it will evolve to opening day and you guys
got the details, but I think once we get into
a rhythm and don't expect too many big changes throughout
the season once we get going. But again, you got
to be agile and flexible, flexible once you.
Speaker 2 (28:02):
Get into the stadium, it's gonna be a great experience.
Speaker 3 (28:04):
My next question goes to that point exactly, flexibility.
Speaker 5 (28:07):
It was.
Speaker 3 (28:09):
Fun to watch Friday night and the scrimmage and your
offensive line guys were switching positions, which when you get
into the course of a season, challenges happen with injuries
and everything else. In the best combinations, unless you kind
of are working guys at different positions, you really don't know.
(28:30):
And James as a general manager, the versatility of players
that you acquire for your roster got to be absolutely critical.
Speaker 4 (28:38):
That's right, and especially at the offensive line spot.
Speaker 5 (28:40):
I mean, I think we've done our part in communicating
just how intentional we are about building up the depth
of that unit as a whole.
Speaker 4 (28:47):
And even beyond that.
Speaker 5 (28:49):
Really, what are you you prioritizing most, especially when considering depth,
and that is the versatility. You get Patrick McCarey, who's coming.
Speaker 4 (28:57):
From Baltimore and started at all five spots.
Speaker 5 (29:00):
You get Wyatt Milam in the draft, who's now played
four of the five spots for us, even before he
steps foot in his first preseason game. And so those
those two things, and there's plenty more to discuss, but
those two things really jump out when you talk about
who can be active on game day, because let's just
say you carry ten on a fifty three man roster, Well,
you only got up to forty eight active on game day,
(29:22):
you better have some guys that can flex across multiple
spots should any one or two or three players.
Speaker 4 (29:27):
Actually go down at the position group.
Speaker 5 (29:29):
So that is key and critical and it has been
a big part of our decision making process in which
OL we actually target in particular.
Speaker 6 (29:37):
Yeah, I mean that to James's point was it this
was we were seeing it now and we're seeing the
benefit of guys being able to play multiple positions. But
it was I give James a ton of credit leading
us through the process of when you know, from the
time he got here at the Combine first day to Combine,
through free agency and draft, it was a point of
(29:57):
emphasis led by James and saying this is how we
need to attack it. Liam felt the same way obviously
as an alignment. I was all on board and going
through the process of making sure and James talking to
him and through experiences that he has lived through in
Los Angeles of when you don't have that depth, and
(30:17):
I think all of us as players, Jeff, you and
I Jp've watched a lot of football when you can't
block people up front and you don't have the depth
at OL and you lose guys. You talk about an
offense being crippled and really being ineffective and hard to operate,
just down in and down out. And so I think
one of our thoughts from the beginning, and James highlighted
(30:39):
from day one, is like, hey, we're gonna make sure
we have depth quality depth quality players at OL. It
was a point of emphasis, and we executed and so
far it's going well. A long way to go though,
and we still got to go see it in live action,
but it's been fun to experience it.
Speaker 3 (30:55):
Will start seeing it at Saturday night, Steelers Jaguars coming
up at EverBank Citiuny.
Speaker 2 (31:00):
James, thanks for the time.
Speaker 4 (31:01):
Let's do it again next weeks.
Speaker 2 (31:04):
We have two more weeks of this before you get
the head coach.
Speaker 3 (31:06):
Yeah, we have a regular season. Right before the week
one game, we'll have Liam give.
Speaker 4 (31:11):
The people what they want.
Speaker 6 (31:12):
So you guys a gonna be solo though down and
the last week of preseasons. We'll be in Miami on Thursday.
Speaker 2 (31:20):
Yeah, we'll be there. I'm not sure you're not scared.
You might want to check your outlook schedule.
Speaker 6 (31:24):
Well, you might want to make sure you were invited,
because I'm not sure I've signed off on the triple maybe.
Speaker 4 (31:29):
Not okay, A couple of seats people removed.
Speaker 2 (31:34):
I hope you get milage for that drive. Keep your receipt,
all right, guys, get out of here.
Speaker 3 (31:41):
Tony Paseli, James Gladstone with us Back with Morris The
Liam Cohen Show on the Jaguars Radio Network.
Speaker 2 (31:50):
Welcome Back.
Speaker 1 (31:51):
The Liam Cohen Show, presented by Fresh from Florida, continues
right now.
Speaker 3 (31:56):
And we are on the Jaguars Radio Network, presented by
the University of Florida, number one university in the US News.
Speaker 2 (32:01):
And World Reports, number one state for education.
Speaker 3 (32:04):
J P.
Speaker 2 (32:04):
Shadwick with Jeff Logoman.
Speaker 3 (32:07):
Our thanks as always to Tony Boselli and James Gladstone, EVP.
Speaker 2 (32:12):
And general managers. Winning us live in studio.
Speaker 3 (32:15):
We'll have Liam Cohen the head coach week one of
the regular season and always a pleasure of these two
sitting in here for the last now three weeks straight
and it's it's compelling radio. I'll say that I love
having him in here. And I gotta be honest, I'm
gonna miss Paselli in the booth on game day. I
mean it's you know, we've been together for I don't know.
(32:38):
I have to go back and look how many years
when did he jump in? There?
Speaker 2 (32:41):
Was that right when Tinton got the rights?
Speaker 3 (32:43):
Yeah, I don't remember what you was fourteen, Me and
Brian Secon for many years and then maybe and then
until twenty thirteen was the twenty thirteen was the first
time with him. Yeah, So I mean, heck, it's a
long time together. And then now it's it's he's not
gonna be there. I mean, we're still going to do
a great broadcast. Franksch do a great job, and Bucky
can be involved a little bit more as well.
Speaker 2 (33:03):
But it's going to be different, very different.
Speaker 3 (33:06):
And you know, when I was talking to these guys,
it's a minute ago about that whole flexibility with the
offensive line thing. I remembered a quote that was told
to me a long time ago when I first came
into the NFL, and it was from the head equipment
manager of the New York Jets and his name was
Bill Hampton Sr. I mean, I'm talking top, top tier
(33:27):
type of guy, Okay, level one, awesome guy. And he
always had a saying JP when same thing kind of
goes to the verse tility, he said, young man, the
more you can do, the more you can do. Just
remember that the more you can do, and he was
referring to as a football player, the more you can do,
the more valuable you are. But I think he also
(33:48):
had a little bit of side reason for saying that,
and that's that he wanted some help folding the towels
and doing the laundry, which we used to actually help
him do it sure in the back, you know, I
mean back before the NFL has become what it is today,
and we used to go back and we'd help the
guys in the equipment room do their thing, and they
loved it, you know. But it was reminded me of that.
Speaker 2 (34:11):
Good to hear.
Speaker 3 (34:12):
About the physicality of practices this week about that. I
mentioned that and then during happy hour. I mean it
was impressive to me, not just you know, the practice
or the scrimmage which I said, ninety one plays and
it was physical, it had meaning to it. But you
go back to every every padded practice that has happened
(34:35):
so far has been meaningful contact. It hasn't been oh, well,
you know, we're not going to hit this guy.
Speaker 2 (34:42):
I don't want to hurt myself.
Speaker 3 (34:43):
I mean, it is you can just tell that this
is a group that is focused and is playing football
in its purest form, which requires contact. Let's come back
in a moment. We'll hear from the head coach Liam Cohen.
Starters will play for the Jaguars sat against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Speaker 2 (35:02):
This is the Liam Cohen Show on Jaguars Radio. Welcome Back.
Speaker 1 (35:10):
The Liam Cohen Show presented by Fresh from Florida continues
right now.
Speaker 3 (35:18):
Welcome back to the William Cohen Show presented by Fresh
from Florida.
Speaker 2 (35:22):
J P. Shadwick with Jeff Vlogman and head coach Liam Cohen.
Earlier today.
Speaker 3 (35:27):
Yes, the starters and everybody will play against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Speaker 7 (35:32):
Came in to wait room the other day on the
day off and we talked about it and wanted to play.
A lot of the guys want to play.
Speaker 2 (35:38):
So you know, actually you got.
Speaker 7 (35:42):
Two new systems on both sides of the ball and
the one joint as I mentioned, so it kind of
I'm not saying it ties your hands because you can
do whatever you want, but it just kind of everything
leans that way as probably being the best thing for
our team right now.
Speaker 6 (36:00):
A kind of convention.
Speaker 7 (36:01):
No, No, Hainsey not convinced, but he just came up
the other day in the weight room was just like
what are we doing, you know, and I'm like, I'm
still working on it. We want to play, you know,
and Trevor as well and some of the guys, So yeah,
it'll be good.
Speaker 2 (36:16):
It's Liam Cohen.
Speaker 3 (36:17):
Earlier today, Robert Hainsey, who he's referring to the Air
Jaguars Center, was with the Cohen down in Tampa.
Speaker 2 (36:23):
Of course.
Speaker 3 (36:24):
So when you have that kind of buy in from
some veteran players in the locker room, that's a good
sign about the way things are going.
Speaker 2 (36:33):
It feels like to me.
Speaker 3 (36:34):
Well, first of all, I think it's it's pretty cool
that a veteran guy.
Speaker 2 (36:39):
Wants to get the reps. A lot of times guys like.
Speaker 3 (36:42):
Yeah, you know, I'm good, I'd rather not, you know,
end up having to do the extra work and just
let me go ahead and sit this one out. And
but you know, here's the reality. It's where you are
as an organization. You need to improve, you need to
get better. You have a first year coach, you have
a first year off, you have a first year defense.
You have coaches that haven't called plays before on one
(37:05):
side of the ball. You have a whole new chemistry
building with the coaching staff. On the offensive side of
the ball. You need reps. You need reps. The more
reps that you can get, when I say reps, quality reps,
The more reps that you can get that are good,
the better off you're going to be into the regular season,
and especially to start the regular season. And we all
(37:28):
know that fast starts always lead to good results, and
this team has an opportunity at getting some wins early,
and if you can stack a couple early, it would
do wonders for the psyche of this team and the
culture that you're trying to believe always needs a little
bit of belief. Wins provide belief. Let's return to the
(37:50):
moment Travis Hunter's piece of this equation on Saturday.
Speaker 2 (37:54):
We'll see if you have answer. I can't wait.
Speaker 3 (37:56):
I mean it's literally again, that's the headlines from a
wide standpoint, and we can't forget the headlines. We'll dig
into that when we return. If you still have a microphone,
I might knock it away, but it knocked it away.
It's the Liam Coach Show on the Jaguars Radio Network.
Speaker 1 (38:11):

Florida continues right now.

Speaker 2 (38:40):
That's pretty cool.
Speaker 3 (38:41):
He's uh, he's had a nok camp. I wish he'd
make made some more of the contested catches, but you know,
and some of the guys that have been at camp
have been like, hey, hey.
Speaker 2 (38:52):
How come he's not making those catches.
Speaker 3 (38:54):
I remember last year and watching Brian Thomas junior. Kim Look,
he's been good at camp. He hasn't been and the
superstar that he was last year in the season yet.
But I remember last year in training camp and watching
him and me and Vaselli had this argument because I said,
I think I think he's going to be the best
deep threat here since Jimmy Smith, and he just started
(39:18):
just going, oh, what are you talking? About you can't
and I was like, look, I said, I think this
guy's really specially he's got great speed.
Speaker 2 (39:25):
But I didn't.
Speaker 3 (39:25):
Realize that he was going to be what we saw
last year. I thought that he would be kind of
I don't want to say one trick pony, but somebody
that was had a defined role. But once he got
into the regular season, there was this change in personality.
He goes to game day and he enters that dark
(39:47):
place because he was in Miami and he was one
talking smack Jim Reds on that first quarter and.
Speaker 2 (39:54):
I was going, who's this guy? And I love it.
Speaker 3 (39:58):
You saw a little I mean they go in the
stadium for the scrimmage. You mentioned he hadn't been making
contested catches and there's some things kind of what is.
Speaker 2 (40:07):
Lights come on?
Speaker 3 (40:08):
And the lights came on a night and he's catching
balls all over the field to touchdowns. He's he's not
a morning person. That's why with James and Tonian here
we were talking about the great tag tacklers, and James
after we went to a break said there's some Thursday
all pros and that there are those that and you
(40:30):
never know this until you actually get to the point
of game day when the lights come on. Some have
the ability to elevate their level of play higher than others.
Some they actually take a step down because they start
thinking too much. Others are the exact same. What you
see in practice is what you get. And then you
(40:52):
have those special players like Brian Thomas Junior. Well, when
the lights turn on, he turns on and it's fun
to watch. Those players are the great ones. I'm excited
to see how Travis hundred deals with the same thing here.
An't wait to see College just fine. I can't wait
to see And you know, we were actually talking a
little bit ago about watching him on both sides of
(41:15):
the ball. And I always have said this that the
past is the greatest indicator of the future. Is that
you can get and the Jaguars pr staff I give
him credit. They had a great nugget in the release
for the game this week, and I'm going to read
it because I mean, it's I think it's pretty telling.
If you look over the last two years, Travis Hunter
(41:36):
took two thousand, six hundred and twenty five snaps total,
and that was going all the way back to twenty
three and twenty four. On the offensive side. That was
seven hundred and fourteen of eight hundred and twenty three snaps.
That's that is ay six point eight percent, eighty seven percent.
Speaker 4 (41:56):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (41:57):
On defense, he took seven hundred and forty eight of
nine hundred and two snaps. That's eighty two point nine percent.
So and there's people, I guess that think that he
can't do it at the pro level.
Speaker 2 (42:12):
Well, wait a minute.
Speaker 3 (42:13):
He just took two six hundred and twenty five snaps
in the last two years.
Speaker 2 (42:18):
We'll see how many he gets on Saturday night, both
sides of the ball.
Speaker 3 (42:21):
Well, I'm just looking forward to seeing him elevate his
level of play on game day because there's a different
gear that everybody has, and I know he has one too.
Speaker 2 (42:30):
Let's come back.
Speaker 3 (42:31):
Final thoughts, final moments of The Liam Cohen Show on
Jaguars Radio.
Speaker 2 (42:40):
Welcome Back.
Speaker 1 (42:41):
The Liam Cohen Show, presented by Fresh from Florida continues
right now.
Speaker 3 (42:46):
The final couple of moments of The Liam Cohen Show,
and we'll have the head coach Week one of the
regular season, JP Shadwick with Jeff Logoman Steelers Jaguars seven
o'clock Saturday. Some stadium navigation updates. The Inn Bowl game
dates will remain unchanged. Is your full capacity throughout the season,
but you might have to adjust where you're parking, entering
the stadium and how you make your way to your seats.
(43:08):
The main concourse will be the full circulation around the stadium.
The ground level outside past where you get your ticket
scan no longer connects gate to gate. All gates will
be open. There are additional gates in the South End
by the old Flexfield. Now there's a supergate at Gate
four that gets to the fan entertainment zone, the South
End zone. Dailies place everything down there. East and West
(43:29):
club gate paths direct only ticket holders with club access
to their respective clubs. So all the information is at
Jaguars dot com slash stadium and we'll keep you updated
as the weeks go along. Here of any changes leading
into home games, and it could be some some minor
changes as the weeks go but logs, we're in the
stadium Saturday night, the Steelers are in town.
Speaker 2 (43:51):
It's preseason, yeah, looking forward to that.
Speaker 3 (43:54):
I think there's like three preseason games on tonight in
the NDF, so few I think the culture playing tonight. Yeah,
I don't know if any of them are televised on
the national scale. But yeah, it's that time of year.
Jpace certainly is well done. We'll do this again next week,
blugs looking forward to it. That's Jeff Blogerman. I'm JP Shattercker.
Thanks to David Chow, Brent Reaver, Joe Fortunado, James Gladstone,
(44:15):
Tony Vasselli, and thanks to you for watching and listening.
This has been the Liam Cohen Show on the Jaguars
Radio Network.
