regular season before the Carolina Panthers matchup at EverBank Stadium,
and that's coming.
Speaker 3 (00:52):
Up in a few weeks, a couple of weeks time.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
Coming up tonight, James Gladstone and Tony Biselli slated to
join us here on the Liam going Show in just
a matter of moments. J. P.
Speaker 4 (01:03):
Shadwick with Jeff.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
Lockham and Jaguars analysts here at the CEM Hotel, and hey,
first time the Jaguars have had more than just an
overnight stay away under this regime. And you know, got
in here last night Wednesday night, practice field today, meetings
tonight tomorrow, walked through and then play the game on Saturday,
(01:25):
and here we go. So it's the first time with
a few days out for this screwp.
Speaker 4 (01:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
And I always liked going against other teams, and the
reason why i'man giving example. You know, for example, going
back to ninety five, right, going against Paseli every day,
I mean would take your confidence.
Speaker 4 (01:43):
Away, right, I mean, I'm being dead serious, huh.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
I mean after going against him and one on ones
and everything, I was like, man, I don't know if
I still got it, And so to go against somebody
else was good.
Speaker 4 (01:55):
I mean.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
And then going back even years before that, we used
to go and have practices with the Eagles. We had
some with the Redskins and that was their name at
the time, and it was always good to go against
a different offensive lineman because every offensive lineman is different
and you always wanted to have a different plan of
(02:17):
attack to go against them. You know, some guys were
great with their hands, and they were always the challenge.
The guys that were really good with their feet were
a challenge. Some guys had bad feet. Some guys liked
to punch, some guys liked to give their hands, I mean.
And so going against the different body types also was
I think a great learning experience. And you know, some
(02:39):
guys were physical and other guys were more finesse. You know,
Mike Ken, if he got the practice against him, he
was more finesse, but he could be powerful when he
needed to be when he was younger, you know.
Speaker 4 (02:49):
So always great exposure.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
And then different schemes, you know, different some teams loved
to play a certain position, grouping and grouping and it's
nice to that. So I think it's very valuable. And
then the biggest thing going against another team is that
the intensity has ratcheted up a couple of notches, you know,
because I mean, look, when I'm going against you know, Biselli,
(03:13):
me and him had this saying, and we'll talk about
it when he comes in here. We would two fingers
across the chest, and two fingers across the chest would
mean that make it look rial?
Speaker 4 (03:28):
No, yeah, yeah, But.
Speaker 2 (03:30):
Then when you go on against another team, there was
no two fingers oh man, okay right. Speaking of Tony
Boselli and James Gladstone's winning US, this has been an
epic run of shows, with the EVP and the GMS
winning US each and every week. It's it's been so
popular that fans are clamoring for.
Speaker 4 (03:49):
A Baselli Gladstone podcast.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
I think that could be in the cards, but it's
really up to you two guys.
Speaker 5 (03:55):
Good afternoon, you know, yes, Okay, and hear myself. Come on, Joe,
let's get it going.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
If you all of a sudden lose your hearing, he's
gonna have to wiggle the wires over there.
Speaker 4 (04:06):
Wiggle there we go.
Speaker 5 (04:07):
Now I can hear myself.
Speaker 4 (04:08):
Thank you, Joe. He wiggled the wire so we couldn't
get that done.
Speaker 5 (04:12):
And so, uh here we are and so we're hoping,
uh that does not happen in the future.
Speaker 4 (04:17):
It was out our out of our control.
Speaker 5 (04:20):
The NFL said it was non negotiable. Despite me putting
up a throwing a fit. It did not matter. They
say it it's gonna happen. So it's one of those things.
It was unfortunate, but I think we got great work.
I think Liam and our staff did a great job
of pivoting and making sure we got a lot of
work against each other. But still, Jeff, you're right right,
(04:40):
you know, this is a player and you get tired
of going to gets the same guys to play in
and play out day in and day out. And certain guys,
I mean I look at some of our players. You
can see when there's an opposite color jersey across from them,
it's different. Their play a sense and they pick it up.
And we saw that today out of a couple of guys.
Speaker 2 (04:58):
And it's also the body type, so I mean, you know,
as a as an offensive lineman, or as a defensive lineman,
or as a wide receiver. I mean, you know, example
wide receiver. Some corners like to play press, some like
to play off, some have great feats, some have great hands.
And to be able to go against the different body
types and the different techniques is valuable because I mean,
if you're going against the same guy all the time,
(05:19):
I mean you're not getting any reps and anything different.
Speaker 4 (05:23):
Well, you get used to.
Speaker 5 (05:23):
I mean Jeff and I practiced all the time together
and after a number of weeks it's like, Okay, I
know what Jeff is going to do yeah, and you
know how it's not helping you. You know how I'm
going to set and what I'm going to do, and
then all of a sudden you flip it and you
get a maybe I get it's more of a speed rusher,
a guy who's not going to go power hands, whatever
it is. You get a different looking body as well,
(05:44):
and I think it helps you get better as a
player in experience, especially for young guys. I mean I
remember as a young guy, getting those different looks helps
me a lot in my development because you can kind
of almost like playing against a pitcher same used to
get a fastball every time you can start timing it
up and get it done. So the variety of looks
is really important.
Speaker 3 (06:02):
And James, how important is it too?
Speaker 2 (06:03):
With this practice? You know, before a preseason game and
now you get an opportunity to get reps to a
lot of your key guys, but have it in more
of a controlled environment versus in a game which it's
you know, full speed, wide open.
Speaker 6 (06:18):
In the design right, Liam coaching staff pour a lot
of attention into making sure that specific situations get to
unfold and specific play calls within those situations so that
you can dial it up for player one, two, three,
so on and so forth. And I think that that's
key and critical because in the preseason games, you're obviously
doing stuff in real time and working off of the
(06:41):
scenarios that present themselves at random. So we certainly have
leaned into joint practices in our prior experience. That's Liam
and I knowing that those can be controlled scenarios and
we can make sure we get in the reps that
we feel like we need to get done in the
lead up to a season, Whereas if you're playing in
a preseason game, you can't guarantee that those scenarios will
(07:03):
get wrapped or those plays will get called. Great point,
So I think that's a that's a helpful piece to
joint practices. You can ensure that you can in fact
get work at those plays in those scenarios with the
specific players that you want to try and activate in
those sessions. So that's a helpful piece for sure.
Speaker 2 (07:19):
Let's come back in a moment plenty more ahead the
roster cuts coming up Tuesday at four o'clock. We'll get
into the final reps for some players Saturday night against
the Dolphins as well. This is The Liam Cohen Show
on Jaguars Radio.
Speaker 4 (07:40):
Welcome Back.
Speaker 1 (07:41):
The Liam Cohen Show, presented by Fresh from Florida, continues
right now.
Speaker 2 (07:47):
Welcome back from the Team Hotel in Fort Lauderdale, The
Liam Cohen Show, JP Shadwick, Jeff Logoman, James Gladstone, Tony BUSSELLI.
Speaker 3 (07:54):
For the final time on this program.
Speaker 5 (07:56):
We get the head coach week week one. Yeah, next
week you get to head coach. Or two weeks yeah,
two weeks you get to the head coach. So I'll be
exciting not to get entertaining. He's looking forward to it,
but spend some time with you, guys.
Speaker 3 (08:07):
We're looking forward to be good, are looking forward to me.
Speaker 5 (08:10):
He's great, he's under He does a great job communicating
and with our team, with our fans and kind of
what we're trying to do and the vision of the
of the team and the style play we're gonna have
and uh, you guys have a good time with Liam.
Speaker 2 (08:22):
Coming up Saturday night, the Jaguars and the Dolphins final
preseason game, pre season week three. Liam Cohen said today
that a lot of the starting players will probably not
dress for this game.
Speaker 4 (08:35):
How many roster spots are.
Speaker 2 (08:37):
Really out there James for for guys to show up
on tape on Saturday night and try to claim and
and what do you look for in a game like
this when when you know guys are fighting for spots.
Speaker 6 (08:48):
Yeah, there's still a few spots that are being rounded out.
And I think this is just another oup for guys
to you know, put their performance on tape for for
us to evaluate and determine whether or not it's of
value to our team moving forward. In the early portion
of the scene season, I think a lot of times
what maybe goes unthought of is that guys just in
(09:12):
the immediate it's not just about making the initial that's
great and all, but so many of these guys are
actually also going to play a part at some point
further down the line when attrition comes comes into play, right,
the injuries occur, and these are guys that we may
have to call on at certain points. And even in
the you talk about the longer term developmental lens, right,
(09:34):
that this is the foundation for many of the first
year guys that you know, they're still getting settled in
and figuring it out, and they're gonna now have a
chance to get a longer stretch of plays in a
single game, whereas in you know, the past two weeks,
they've felt more second half, fourth quarter, maybe final drive only.
(09:54):
So now they get to string together drives and that
can present something new that we haven't seen from many
of the people that are going to be on the
grass because they've had reps that have come few and
far between. Knowing that in practice sessions a lot of
those ops go to the first, second, third teams, and
this now includes a lot of the fourth year for
(10:16):
fourth team guys.
Speaker 5 (10:17):
Yeah, and I think the other thing, as James said,
let's call it a handful whatever that number is, have got
spots in the fifty three man there's sixteen practice squad
spots that people are competing for as well, and not
just the sixteen spots that we have. Every team, all
of the thirty one have sixteen spots. So obviously we're
looking across the league and we're going to work and
(10:38):
continue to work. Our pro department's done a great job
of looking at all the players that could be available,
and so don't think about this just as the handful
of spots for the fifty three, these guys are competing
for sixteen spots on our practice squad roster, as well
as all the spots that are around the League's.
Speaker 1 (10:58):
Welcome Back William Cohen Show presented by Fresh from Florida

Speaker 3 (11:36):
Well, we're gonna begin November eighth.
Speaker 4 (11:38):
Come on, I'll tap then let's go. Tony.
Speaker 3 (11:41):
What night of the week it's a Saturday night?
Speaker 5 (11:44):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (11:44):
I think I have been Skinner at home?
Speaker 2 (11:46):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (11:47):
Where they were in at the EverBank.
Speaker 2 (11:48):
Yeah, I saw Savior show is amazing, right, gotta check
them to remember all side. I think it was uh
was it the country band? And opened up for him.
Oh there's Jason Aldan, Kid Rock Marshall Tucker. Now, oh
they all opened up for this.
Speaker 1 (12:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (12:04):
I can't remember who it was, but it was.
Speaker 3 (12:05):
Well, that's who it was, really who I just to
they put on a great show it was.
Speaker 2 (12:10):
That's coming up. Hey, all right, final thoughts here, guys
before we get you out of here. You got more
film to watch and things to do, and hey, roster
cuts coming up fifty. Can you believe it has this
gone fast? This preseason, this whole training camp? Or is it?
I can't believe you're finally at the fifty three? Has
it been a long kind of grind here?
Speaker 4 (12:31):
James?
Speaker 3 (12:31):
What's your feel as you get to the final cut?
Speaker 6 (12:33):
It is it has gone fast? For me, I'd say
it's a I don't know that I've I would label
it as some version of a grind. I get a
ton of fulfillment hourly, daily, weekly in this role. So
for me, it's it's definitely gone by fast, and I
think usually good things do right. So I'm excited to
(12:56):
still see that this team's identity being shaped in real time,
the theme that is presenting itself right from one game
to the next, from one practice to the next and
now a joint practice is physicality is showing up on
every side of the line of the scrimmage and the
back end for our defense, our wide receivers showing a
(13:20):
grit and a level of interest in what they do
for the ball carriers. H It is now a part
of this team. And very happy that that's the case.
I think obviously once we get into real game settings
in the regular season, like for that to show itself there.
But the fact that that's presenting in a real way,
in a consistent way is is something that I'm really
(13:42):
I'm really happy with, all Right.
Speaker 2 (13:44):
So I got to bring something up because I kind
of went on a little bit of a ran earlier.
Speaker 5 (13:47):
Now you never do shocking.
Speaker 2 (13:51):
And and I got to throw you guys some credit
because you know, I walk out on the field today
and this is this is good. And I walk out
on the field today and I see a Jaguars football
team and we're we're in the uniform of the day. Okay,
we got we got our black pants on, we got
our white jerseys on. We look sharp, we look prepared. Okay,
coaches look great, you know, and team apparel, you know,
(14:13):
and I look across the field. I see, you know,
Daisy Duke pants on for for the Dolphins players.
Speaker 4 (14:20):
Some are cut off, some are down high.
Speaker 2 (14:23):
They weren't that high logs, you know, everything was a
little bit different. Then I see a pair of school
bus yellow sneakers on, which the last time I checked,
that's not a team color.
Speaker 4 (14:36):
Just credit.
Speaker 3 (14:38):
When you guys came out, you look like a team.
Speaker 4 (14:41):
Well, I think you know.
Speaker 5 (14:43):
One of the things that we've talked about that James,
Liam and I have talked about a lot, is there's
a standard of what it means to be a Jacksonville Jaguar.
There's a style of play, there's a level of physicality,
approach and what we're going to do. And I think
Liam has set the standard and has communicated that team
in the expectations and that's great. But then you have
(15:07):
to hold the line and be accountable. And I give
our players a ton of credit. They've bought in, they
listened to the coaching staff and what the expectations are
and how we're gonna approach everything we do because everything matters.
And I think you see, like, are we where we
want to be?
Speaker 4 (15:24):
No?
Speaker 5 (15:25):
But are we progressing? Are we making progress? We're getting
better day in and day out, and I think the
little things matter. How you do everything, whether it's at
the facility day in and day out, how we meet,
how we communicate, how the whole staff works. This is
not just about our players. How we operate as an organization.
That's very important. And I think, you know, you look
(15:48):
at the team that came out today.
Speaker 4 (15:50):
Was it perfect?
Speaker 5 (15:52):
Not even close? But James talked about it. We've watched
the tape, We've talked, we're going to go watch more.
The one thing you can't question about the guys in
how they approach it. They're out there and they're physical,
they play hard, they're professional, they're doing what they're asked.
We got to continue to clean things up. We've got
to continue to get better. I think we will, and
(16:13):
our coaching staff has done a great job. James and
the team has done a great job. I think if
you look over the last you know, we talk so
much about free agency in the draft. Of building this team,
it's a never ending process. We've brought guys in that
had to show up in August, our pro scouts, finding
guys get hurt. We have to add, you know, make
sure we have position depth. We've brought in players that
(16:35):
are out there competing and practicing well and do what
we ask so we will continue to grow, continue to evolve.
And and you know, as someone who's been around here, Jeff,
we've been here since the beginning, there's a I think
what it means to be a Jaguar on how you
approach means something to you and I from being here
from day one, what's been a lot of fun for me?
(16:55):
You talk going back to I think JPUS, has it
been a grind? Has gone fast? To me, it's been
a blur in a good way because you got you know,
just start at the top with James and Liam and
I and how we operate in the communication and how
we value each other and work together, our staff, the
people in the building. I think everyone's answered the call,
(17:18):
understands what it means and what we're expecting. And uh,
it's not a grind. I mean, how can it be
a grind when you're doing something you love to do.
We talk about all the time. We get to do this.
We get to be a part of the NFL, We
get to be a Jacksonville Jaguar. We get to show
up every day to work and go compete. And so
when you when you have that approach in that mindset,
(17:40):
I think it changes your entire perspective.
Speaker 4 (17:42):
Of what you're doing.
Speaker 5 (17:43):
And we just need to continue to do that because
we're gonna get it. We're gonna face some adversity. There's
gonna be some tough times. We're gonna have tough decisions
to make. You know, not to break news here. We're
gonna lose a football game probably at some point. And
how we respond and how we face adversity, that's what
I'm looking forward to. Not looking forward to losing, obviously,
but I'm looking forward to what it gets tough. How
(18:05):
do we as an organization dig in and work together
and attack the opportunity that's in front of us, And
so looking forward to that opportunity. Got another opportunity coming up.
At the hard Rock preseason Game three. You talked about
a lot of guys that you know, our starters or
contributors might not play, but man, go watch a bunch
of young guys go compete and try to earn a
(18:26):
spot in the NFL to fulfill their dream.
Speaker 4 (18:29):
How cool is.
Speaker 6 (18:30):
That we haven't talked about the Saints game here in
this session but I think so much. Just to provide
a little bit of perspective, is obviously we're evaluating performance
in those preseason games, but we're also looking at response.
You mentioned the word response, Right, you watch our offense
against the Saints on our first drive, move the ball
(18:51):
fairly well, and then you get down inside the red
zone and there's a negative play that results in a turnover. Well,
the response to that's that's a negative, right, that's not
a good thing to have turned the ball over. But
the response to that is a defensive stop, a special
team's return, an offensive drive that leads to a touchdown. That,
(19:12):
from our perspective is progress. That is a positive sign
to see that that there's not a negative followed by
a negative followed by a negative or a trickle down
effect from that event. Right, that's an unlucky event in
that game that didn't compound. In fact, it was met
with a positive off of it. And that's some momentum
(19:33):
that you can continue to lean into and be excited about,
assuming that we're going to face more stressful scenarios adverse
scenarios along the way.
Speaker 2 (19:43):
Here, all right, just to let me see you guys
wearing school Bushellow Snakers, no comment, Jatan's Gladstone, Tony Missel.
It's been a pleasure for the last five weeks doing this.
Speaker 4 (19:55):
Yeah, five weeks.
Speaker 5 (19:56):
You're not gonna hear from us until we'll hear from James.
We'll be talking next week, so I'll be good. And
then after that, you guys got the coach and our
players will be speaking up and we're looking forward to
it and can't wait to kick it off opening day
ever Bank, I hope everyone's excited. I know we are
to get a chance to go out there and play
the Carolina Panthers, and uh, it's gonna be a lot
(20:18):
of fun.
Speaker 4 (20:18):
It's always better when it's when it's real.
Speaker 5 (20:21):
They're gonna start keeping score. That's right, and everything counts.
But our mentality, in all seriousness, everything we do matters.
From the first time we stepped into this together. Hire
James glads on the first thing we do. We fly
to the combine not knowing each other barely. What we
did that day mattered and every day matters. We we
(20:42):
kind of say in joking but at the same time
very serious. Tomorrow Saturday night, I guess today's Thursday Saturday night.
That's the most important game in franchise history, because it
matters what we do, how we approach it, how we
show up. A lot of these guys might not be
on our roster, but how they go out there and
play the game is a representation of us as an organization,
(21:03):
as a team, So everything matters, and we're going to
attack and compete in everything we do.
Speaker 6 (21:08):
Just like that's there's no way that's the.
Speaker 4 (21:09):
Most Yeah, it's the most important history.
Speaker 3 (21:12):
I've been in those games.
Speaker 4 (21:13):
The best thing is last night I landed with this.
Speaker 5 (21:16):
We're at dinner last night with the wives because this
is the wives trip as well, so all the coaches wives.
Speaker 4 (21:20):
Game, and that's why you guys were late. Yeah, no,
who were not?
Speaker 5 (21:24):
So all the coaches wives came, Our wives came, and
we're just having a little dinner, uh last night and
uh my wife asked, just very innocently asked. James says, James,
what are you trying to get out of the game, Like,
how do you approach this and what's this mean? And
James looks at James looks at our straight face. He says, Angie,
this is the most important game in the history of
the franchise, and she looked at him like, what are
(21:47):
you talking about? And the best is and then we
fast forward and we go to bed and we're ups
theres in the room and Angie looks at me. He's like,
you know, James said that he never really answered my question.
And she asked me again and I said, this is
the most important game in the says it's the next one,
it's the next She just said, I'm going to bed,
good night.
Speaker 3 (22:08):
That's a great way, guys, James Tony, good to see you.
Speaker 4 (22:11):
Appreciate it. Appreciate you, guys with more in a moment.
Speaker 2 (22:14):

some insight to the mindset of the organization, building it
(23:37):
from a GM perspective, Tony and his role, and then really.
Speaker 3 (23:41):
Looking forward to having the head coach in here starting
week one.
Speaker 2 (23:43):
Yeah, I'm looking forward to it because he's a He's
a pleasure to talk to and very very open, very honest.
I don't want to say completely transparent, but as transparent as.
Speaker 4 (23:56):
The coach can be.
Speaker 2 (23:57):
I think that that's going to be exciting for the
fan base to feel to feel Liam and to kind
of really to get to know him. And I think
that's going to be exciting as well. And he's a
very smart man. And you know, he's only been in
the league, I think, only like five years, but when
when I've talked to him, I have gotten the impression
that he's been around for a lot longer than that.
Speaker 4 (24:19):
And that's that has impressed me.
Speaker 2 (24:22):
What impressed you about the joint practice today in terms
of the Jaguar perspective of things?
Speaker 3 (24:27):
What went well? What didn't go so well well?
Speaker 2 (24:31):
I just like the idea of, like we were talking
about earlier, about going against different schemes, different body types,
and then then the intensity level gets ratcheted up and
then sometimes leads to a little too much, you know,
which is some altercation some guy's idea of you know,
thud might be a little more aggressive than the other team, right,
and you get to the point where, you know, you
(24:51):
get a couple of fists thrown here and there, and
it happened, and and that's okay. You know, you just
got to make sure that you don't get carried away
too far. But I think that's what's so valuable about
these practicing with other teams thing. Again, just like we
talked about about how you can expose and Jane brought
up a great point about you can actually manufacture situations
(25:12):
for your team to be in that maybe in a
preseason game you otherwise wouldn't get.
Speaker 4 (25:17):
And that's a great point on his part.
Speaker 2 (25:19):
And the thing that I think might be a little
disappointing about today is that it wasn't as long as
a normal practice would be with another team. The Miami
Dolphins had already done a practice with the Detroit Lions,
They've already done practices with the Chicago Bears, and multi
day practices too, correct and so you know, they were
(25:41):
I think I was kind I was getting kind of
nervous last week that they may call and say, hey,
look we're out, we can't do it and beat up Yeah.
Speaker 4 (25:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (25:49):
And you know, the Jaguars, as Tony talked about him
trying to line up the Atlanta foul because then the
league changing the preseason schedule at the last minute and
it didn't work out. And that's that's unfortunate. I mean,
every coach likes to have as many opportunities to test
a new roster as they can get.
Speaker 4 (26:08):
So I thought today was valuable.
Speaker 2 (26:10):
I just wish it was a little bit more in
depth than what it was. I want to say the
first team guys probably got in the range of twenty reps.
That's not a lot of reps, you know for a practice.
If you go and you look at the number of
reps that Liam Cohn was getting with his team going
to the scrimmage, as it would have been in the
forty to fifty range, you know, so you basically got
(26:30):
about half the work in with the Dolphins as you
might get on your own or if you were doing
a normal practice with another team. Trevor Lawrence spoke after
practice today and he wasn't overall pleased. I think with
the offense. He threw a couple of picks in the practice,
but he knows the process and it's part of the
(26:52):
piece of getting better. But I mean it's going to
be really his last full competitive practice. Sty'll practice times
between now and the regular season. But next time he's
out there is Week one against Carolina. Where does he
stand right and and I think it's a it's a
great question about where he's at right now and to
be honest with you today, I watched a lot of
the defense. I watched like the offense when they were
(27:15):
in one on ones, and then I watched the offensive line,
and then when it went to the team thing, like
James was talking about, if he tried to focus on everything,
then you don't watch anything. So I watched the offense
for the very beginning part, and then after that I
focused in on the defense, and I thought it would
be a really good test for the defense. Just two
has got a really good release, he's quick, Waddle's a
(27:36):
great receiver, and so I was focused on it, and
tonight I'll watch the film.
Speaker 4 (27:41):
But here's the thing.
Speaker 2 (27:43):
By the time we talk next, which is gonna be
in two weeks, okay, nobody's gonna care about Trevor's performance
into Miami. No, not at all, you know, But well,
you know, I'll watch it tonight and see how he did,
because then we can that's really going to be the
last exposure we probably have of Trevor leading into the
opening game against Carolina. And then to the point that
(28:07):
you watched today on the defensive side, how did they
fare against Tuuh and Waddle and the Speedsters and what
they can do what an out there? When what I
like the best, Okay, you got the return of your
two defensive tackles, I think, which is very important big
and Mason Smith and Eric Armstead. I mean having those
two guys back is big.
Speaker 1 (28:26):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (28:27):
And again I said that, I thought that they made
a couple of nice plays and certain instances. But what
I love the best about the defense was their intensity.
You could tell that they were kind of rallying around
each other, you know, because in practice, you know you're
you're tired, you're going against the same guys, but then
when you go against another team, you've got to pull together.
(28:50):
I saw a defense that pulled together today to become one.
And it wasn't about oh, I'm competing against this guy
for time and a roster spot. It was hey, put
an arm around all of you, all of us, and
then say, hey, we're on the same team.
Speaker 4 (29:04):
Let's go.
Speaker 2 (29:05):
And I thought that that was real cool. And here's
the other thing that I think that really impressed me today.
James Campanelli was here in Miami for a couple of years.
Excuse me, Anthony, I was thinking the linebacker of the
Green Bay Packers. I get that name of my stuck
in my head sometimes. But he spent quite a few
years here in Miami, and I know a number of
(29:27):
different people on the Miami Dolphin staff, and from Renzo
Shepherd to the John the equipment guy, to some of
their coaches, everybody that I talked to today all brought
up Campanelli, every one of them and said to me
that you've got a really good guy and a really
good coach. And hearing that from an organization where a
(29:51):
guy spent time at, I mean, to me speaks volumes,
because a lot of times when a coach ends up
going to a place and then he leaves and they're like.
Speaker 4 (29:58):
Yeah, he's a good guy, you know.
Speaker 2 (30:00):
But they were just going on and on about how
high quality of a coach, high quality of a guy
that he is. And that made me feel really good,
because you know, the Jaguars is an organization. Look and
as fans, we're all going into this with a new
defensive coordinator and what you know, it's josh heinz Allen.
(30:21):
Is that goodzil Josh hein Allen said the same things
that I love the man that Anthony Campanelli is. Hearing
that today from the people that work for the Miami
Dolphins made me feel really good about Liam Cohen's decision
to bring in Campanelli as a defensive coordinator. Let's come
back in a moment our final thoughts ahead of pre
season Week three, the Jaguars and the Dolphins coming up
(30:44):
Saturday night. This is the Liam Cohen Show on Jaguars Radio.
Speaker 1 (30:52):
Welcome back. The Liam Cohen Show, presented by Fresh from Florida,
continues right now.
Speaker 2 (30:58):
And we are on the Jaguars Radio Network, presented by
the University of Florida, number one university in the US
News and World Reports, number one state for education. JP
Shadwick with Jeff Logman. We're at the Team Hotel in
Fort Lauderdale after a Jaguars Dolphins joint practice today at
the Dolphins facility. Ahead of preseason Week three Saturday night.
(31:21):
Seven o'clock seven eight the official kickoff time. We'll go
on air on the network at six o'clock with countdown
to kickoff and gets you ready and plenty to I think, well,
there's not gonna be a lot of frontline starting players
that dress for this game. However, there are still some
roster spots to be gained and some younger players guys
(31:42):
who are fighting for those spots, not only here but
the other teams in the league.
Speaker 4 (31:46):
But there's still some things out there. I'll give you
some names. Watch.
Speaker 3 (31:50):
Yeah, I'll give you some names to watch.
Speaker 4 (31:52):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (31:54):
Saal Wormley, the rookie offensive lineman. He's been playing guard
and center from Penn State. Where's number sixty one. I
think he's got a chance of being a pretty good
pro now. Just like they were talking about about opportunities
to make not only just the roster, but practice squad.
I think practice squad is where he may end up being.
He's a guy to watch. Running backs Jaquinnin Jackson thirty eight. Okay,
(32:18):
he's been with the Jaguars all camp, but he's been
very sparse playing time so far. I want to see him.
And then they signed another guy, Kevin Harris. Not that
excited to see him. I think he was brought in
to kind of handle some.
Speaker 4 (32:30):
Load just for this week.
Speaker 2 (32:32):
Chandler bray Boy is a guy the wide receiver that's
got some special team's ability.
Speaker 3 (32:36):
Wears number fifteen. I think is another one to keep
an eye on.
Speaker 2 (32:41):
Eli Pancolls another one I think that's got the size
to play special teams. Where's number ten in the wide
receiving room. I think he's got a chance defensively, so.
Speaker 4 (32:51):
They figured out the safety stuff.
Speaker 2 (32:53):
I think that that's still gonna be I think that's
still gonna be going. Antonio Johnson, I think he's still
got to show some things. Daniel Thomas, Darnell Savage. I
think those guys are kind of all still in the mix.
And see how all of those guys play. I think
it's going to be something to watch for. Does Colin
Saunders play at all to get some reps in a
system that he's just.
Speaker 4 (33:13):
Kind of entered into.
Speaker 2 (33:16):
And the linebackers, I mean, is gonna be must watch
TV to me, uh, just because you're talking about Chad Mooma,
Jack Kaiser, Branson Colmes, Dennis gardeck you, Sir Abdulah. I
mean all these guys. You know, what's the number going
to be at linebacker? Is it going to be six?
You know, some teams go even to seven when you've
(33:36):
got high quality guys that can play in space and
special teams. But that is a position that really I
think needs to be watched. I mean the defensive line,
I think you got a pretty good idea of where
it's going to be. But the two guys to watch
their BJ Green, who is ultra twitchy, the rookie from
Colorado whars number ninety five is the guy that I'm
gonna be watching, and I really thought he had a
(33:58):
really good game against New Orleans. Danny Strigile's a guy
that also has one to watch. He didn't have And
to me, if I had to make a choice between
Strigau and BJ Green right now, I take BJ Green.
He's just a little bit more twitchy. But watch both
of them. Ninety five is BJ Green Danny Strigau number
ninety two. Those two rookie edge players or I think
(34:19):
got the talent to make this team in some way,
shape or form and eventually be good football player. Strigo
six fifty five out of Minnesota and Green sixty one
two seventy out of Colorado six one, two seventy. He's
a hardhead. Yeah, And like I said, JP, he he's twitchy.
There's certain guys that have that that quick twitch power
(34:42):
and that's the thing that impressed me about BJ Green
last week is that he was able to finish plays
because of that quick power that he has and never
stayed blocked, never stayed blocked, And to me that's I
think this is a guy that's going to be an
eventual starter, be a really good one. And then of
course roster cuts come Tuesday at four o'clock that's the
(35:05):
official deadline. Then there's a waiver period and you could
be out seeing what's available after the fact as well.
Speaker 4 (35:12):
Yeah, and who knows.
Speaker 2 (35:13):
I mean, you know, there's been teams in the Jaguars
past where you've seen anywhere from you know, five to
seven different changes on the roster from the outside. I
don't anticipate that, but if I had to put a
number on it, I would say maybe two or three,
you know, being different from what is on this roster currently.
(35:34):
Now I'm talking about the fifty three. Now, if it's
the fifty three, maybe too the practice squad.
Speaker 4 (35:39):
You mean, who knows. You can have a bunch of
different
Speaker 2 (35:41):
Guys being brought in from elsewhere, you know, based on
