They're up there on the square right now, just finishing
up the big breakfast everybody had on the Square. Yes,
they had the big breakfast this morning. I think Cynthia
Booth was the keynote speaker. But uh, yeah, so everything
is good and uh kicking off the Black Family Reunion
weekend yesterday it all kicked off. You had the Uh,
(01:41):
doctor King's daughter in town and she was at the
see I told I said, I.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
Didn't think the statue was there.
Speaker 4 (01:48):
Yeah, everybody thought they was gonna unveil the statue and
I'm like, I.
Speaker 3 (01:54):
Haven't seen anything or anything up.
Speaker 4 (01:57):
There, and so no, they just had the I guess
the pictures of what it will look like when it's finished.
Speaker 3 (02:04):
They had the guy who's doing it.
Speaker 4 (02:07):
And if it's the same guy think it is, it
might be the same guy that did the Ezrat Charles.
Speaker 3 (02:12):
He might have been the same guy that did the
Jill Morgan. I'm not sure, but I hope.
Speaker 4 (02:17):
It's pretty close to what doctor Martin Luther King looks like,
not like down in Florida they did one and it
looks nothing like doctor Martin Luther King, that's for sure.
There's a lot going on around the tri State, the nation,
and the world. Like I said, we're just starting here
(02:40):
at First Financial Bank, and I'll be here till one o'clock.
Speaker 3 (02:43):
People will come in later on.
Speaker 4 (02:44):
Like I say, everybody's up on the square finishing up
with the Black Family Reunion breakfast.
Speaker 3 (02:51):
Yes, And did you go to Corinthian last night to
see the Martin Luther King Yeah, she was there and
let's see.
Speaker 4 (03:07):
Oh, yes, yesterday I gave my I went to as promised.
I went up to the Corinthian to Corinthian Baptist Church.
I Red Cross was having a blood drive and I
gave my blood. And I didn't expect anybody to show up,
but we had some brave souls.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
We Ozzie showed up. Yeah, my man Ozzi.
Speaker 4 (03:30):
See Ozzi talks to talk and a lot of people
don't like the talk that he talks, but he walks
to walk.
Speaker 3 (03:37):
He was there, he gave blood.
Speaker 4 (03:40):
Who else was it of Mississippi James, Mississippi James was there.
Speaker 3 (03:47):
He gave up blood. And there was a couple other
ladies there also.
Speaker 4 (03:50):
I don't know their names, but there was a couple
other ladies that heard me mention it on the air
and they showed up. And I don't know who else
came later on, but uh, thank you for showing up
and giving blood because h a lot of sickle cell
patients will need that blood.
Speaker 3 (04:08):
So thank you for showing up. Yeah, appreciating you.
Speaker 4 (04:13):
You You're not like some of these keyboard terrorists on
Facebook Live that talk a lot of smack, but when
it comes time to showing up.
Speaker 3 (04:22):
They weren't there, just like the ones Iris Rolli's event.
Speaker 4 (04:27):
Yesterday, you know, black men for Iris Roli and Uh.
Speaker 3 (04:32):
I didn't see a lot.
Speaker 4 (04:33):
Of the keyboard terrorists down there either. They talk plenty
of smack. Yeah we were gonna stand up for Iris. Well,
yeah they and I didn't see them. Of course, I
saw some. I saw some some people who called the station.
I did see some of you down there, even saw
(04:56):
some of the women down there. Sister v was there,
Loud Voice Joyce, Julie Johnson was there, and a host
of other females were there.
Speaker 3 (05:08):
Yeah, in support of IRUs Rowley.
Speaker 4 (05:12):
And they had about five speakers, I guess. And this
new guy, I think it's Reverend Hughes from New Jerusalem.
Speaker 6 (05:23):
I like.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
I like that guy.
Speaker 3 (05:24):
He's pretty good. He's pretty good.
Speaker 4 (05:26):
I think he's gonna be a good fit for New
Jerusalem Baptist Church, UH, taking over for Damon Lynch Junior
at New Jerusalem. I hope he stays longer than the
last guy stayed. I don't know what I looked up
to the guy was gone. I don't know, but I
(05:48):
like Reverend Hughes. He seems like a pretty straightforward guy.
He's all right, So I think you did pretty good
in choosing him New Jerusalem. And let's see Damon Lynch spoke,
Jay Rodge spoke, and let's see who else.
Speaker 3 (06:05):
Reverend Brown did the.
Speaker 4 (06:08):
Prayer opening prayer, he tried to sneak a preach in
with his opening prayer. I'm like, okay, how long are
we gonna pray? You know, he tried to sneak a
preacher in. Those preachers will do that on the prayer. Okay,
I'm not gonna.
Speaker 3 (06:24):
Be the speaker. Well, I'll get my sneak.
Speaker 4 (06:27):
I'll sneak my preach in during the prayer. Yeah, but
it was great.
Speaker 3 (06:34):
It was great.
Speaker 4 (06:35):
Somebody said, doctor Richard Hughes is only thirty two years old. Yeah,
he seemed like a young guy. But he seemed like
he's gonna be a good fit over at New Jerusalem. Yeah,
all right, let's see what else is going on. Did
I ever talk about it? And I meant every time
(06:55):
I think about it, I'm not on the air, But
Halle Berry and David Justice, did I bring this up?
Speaker 3 (07:03):
Because you know, she never.
Speaker 4 (07:06):
Did say that he wasn't the one who slapped her
so hard she lost hearing in one ear, and he
was a little upset about that. And plus when he
married her, he thought she was gonna be a woman
to have kids and stay at home and cook and clean.
He thought halle Berry was actually gonna do that stuff,
(07:29):
and so that threw a wrench in their marriage real quick.
But I knew David Justice never hit her. He's not
the type. He comes from a good family in Avondale.
He used to come to the radio station asking for
forty five's at the back window when he was a
little kid. So I remember David Justice and he was
always polite, you know, thank you and this. He was
(07:52):
a pretty good kid, David Justice. And I haven't seen
him in a few years, but I'm trying to get
in touch with him to see if I can get
him on the show. But I don't know if his
parents are still living in this area, if they're even
still living, I'm not sure. But he lived up there
in Avondale, but he went to the school over in Kentucky,
(08:15):
a Catholic school over there. But comes from a great
home and he's a stand up guy. And I could
see him thinking, you know, I'll get married, my wife
is gonna stay at home, cook and clean and have babies.
He's that type of guy, but he married the wrong
person for that, halle Berry staying at home cooking and cleaning.
(08:38):
He said, Man, she didn't cook, she didn't clean. I'm like,
what the heck did I get into?
Speaker 3 (08:45):
Yeah? Oh, oh boy, oh boy.
Speaker 6 (08:49):
Yes.
Speaker 4 (08:50):
So halle Berry was a little upset that he said,
you know about you know she he thought she was
gonna cook and.
Speaker 3 (08:56):
Clean, and she threw a little shade.
Speaker 4 (09:00):
And if she took a picture with her boyfriend and
I think the kids and say.
Speaker 3 (09:05):
Wow, cooking, cleaning, whew, you know. So she hit back
at David Justice a little bit.
Speaker 4 (09:13):
I want to hear from you if you were at
the event in front of city Hall yesterday. People are
still waiting for Scottie Johnson to drop the other shoe.
I ran in people yesterday the twenty four hours up.
So what's gonna happen.
Speaker 3 (09:28):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (09:30):
I don't know what's gonna happen. We'll wait to hear
from Scottie Johnson. And a catch you just heard on
the news here on the station. Victoria Parks resigned from
the Hamilton County Veteran Service Commission. I think I told
you this yesterday that she had resigned so that we
didn't have to have a vote to see where she
(09:51):
was gonna stay or leave. And there was no vote
taken because she resigned. Yes, Avondale Burning Avenue is getting
ready to really move forward.
Speaker 3 (10:05):
Man.
Speaker 4 (10:05):
They're gonna put h three hundred apartments, condos and and
uh all kind of stuff there. And they're gonna have
some low income housing too. Yeah, affordable housing, they'd say, yeah, okay.
Speaker 3 (10:25):
Who can afford affordable housing.
Speaker 4 (10:29):
Yeah, they're gonna have condom in a hotel, short term rentals,
office spaces, and a slew of new retail options.
Speaker 3 (10:39):
So Burning Avenue is getting ready to move along.
Speaker 4 (10:44):
I got boys. Sondra Jones. She hit the ground running,
didn't she. Yeah, she is the president of the Avondale
Community Council. Yes, and let's see what else is going on. Man, five, one, three, seven, four, nine,
twelve thirty. That's my number if you want to jump
on board. Oh yeah, David Justin went to Covington Latin
(11:09):
in Kentucky. Yes, I knew it was some kind of
school in Kentucky. I guess Covington Latin. I think is
that a Catholic school? I guess it is. But anyway,
he was a stand up guy, a good guy, clean cut,
you know, never in any big problems, any trouble, and
(11:29):
always a stand up guy.
Speaker 3 (11:32):
Yes, David stayed next door to my friend on glen Wood.
Speaker 4 (11:37):
Okay, Well, yeah, I knew he stayed right near the
station there because he was always down there. Yeah, always
down there playing around, you know, playing football and the
kids out there. So yeah, five, one, three, seven, four, nine,
twelve thirty. I see Cecil Thomas called me on my
(11:58):
cell phone. Why he called me on my cell phone,
I don't know. Maybe he got the numbers mixed up.
Maybe he's got some news for us. I thought he
was out of town. I thought Cecil was out of
town on vacation, down in Alabama somewhere. I don't know,
but I'm sure over the next day or two we'll
(12:19):
hear something from Scottie Johnson or Cecil Thomas or somebody.
Tonight starts the curfew. Parents, if you don't want a
cop car pulling up to your house with your kid
in the backseat, make sure they're off the streets by eleven,
and if they're downtown or over the Rhine by nine
(12:43):
seventeen and under.
Speaker 3 (12:47):
Oh I didn't know. I didn't know nothing about the curfew.
Speaker 4 (12:50):
Well you didn't, I can hear now there are actually
some parents out there that probably know nothing of the
curfew in the Cincinnati, in Cincinnati, in the city of Cincinnati.
I guarantee you there's somebody out there, some parent that
knows nothing of the curfew.
Speaker 3 (13:11):
That's just how tuned in they are to things that's
going on around the world.
Speaker 4 (13:19):
I can bet you I could walk out of here
right now and walk down through over the Rhine or
somewhere and find a couple of parents and ask them
do you know about the curfew?
Speaker 3 (13:30):
And they wouldn't have any clue.
Speaker 4 (13:34):
Yeah, they wouldn't have any clue. Lantis Timmins says David
Justice gave him five thousand dollars when he was coaching
at Western Hills for.
Speaker 3 (13:46):
His basketball program. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (13:48):
See, David Justice was a stand up guy. He was
a stand up guy. Known him since he was a kid,
and he was a good baby. He was a hell
of a baseball player for the Atlanta Braves. Oh yeah,
heck of a player.
Speaker 3 (14:10):
All right, let's take a break and then we'll come back.
Speaker 4 (14:13):
I am broadcasting live here at First Financial Bank for
the Black Family Reunion. And like I said, they're still
up on the square wrapping up with the breakfast.
Speaker 3 (14:24):
And uh, they'll be in here all day long, in
and out all day long. We'll have food later on.
Speaker 4 (14:30):
I think Nicole what's the name of Nicole's catering service,
she will provide the food down here today and so
they'll be free food, all type of desserts and stuff
like that. So come on down here and check us
out at First Financial the corner of Fourth and Vine.
Speaker 3 (14:52):
Yes, fourth and Vine.
Speaker 4 (14:54):
Let's take a break and then we'll come back twelfth third, Lincoln,
were with you till one o'clock as we broadcast live
here First Financial Bank, corner Fourth and Vine, and it's
the BFR Lounge, and we're honoring Jackie Taggart Boyd in
the BFR Lounge today.
Speaker 3 (15:10):
Yeah, so come on down and it's gonna be great.
It's gonna be a great event. Let's go to the phones.
Speaker 4 (15:18):
Let's go to the crime stopper headquarters and check in
with my good friend, Detective Tiffany Green.
Speaker 3 (15:23):
How you doing.
Speaker 7 (15:24):
I'm good, Good morning, Lincoln.
Speaker 4 (15:25):
How are you.
Speaker 3 (15:26):
I'm hanging in there, hanging in there.
Speaker 7 (15:28):
Yes, right, you sound busy as always.
Speaker 3 (15:31):
Oh yes, oh god, it never stopped, it never, it
never ends.
Speaker 1 (15:35):
I'm telling you, I'll believe you.
Speaker 7 (15:38):
I see you at work, I see the work you
put in.

Speaker 4 (17:01):
Boy that last guy, he was doing some fighting, man, geez,
I tell you now, people calling still calling crime stoppers
giving you tips every.
Speaker 7 (17:10):
Day, so people call in. But honestly, most of our
traction is coming off with Facebook.
Speaker 3 (17:16):
Really really Facebook.
Speaker 4 (17:19):
You know, the young folks, they are into that Facebook
stuff now, you know what I mean? And everything, everything
is on their phones. Everything is on their phones. But
all right, and what's the They can just go to
the crime Stopper Facebook page.
Speaker 7 (17:34):
Yes, so it's Greater Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky Crime Stoppers.
Speaker 4 (17:39):
Okay, all right, And we can also find that signal
ninety nine on Facebook too.
Speaker 3 (17:45):
Have you looked at that? Have you looked at that page?
Speaker 7 (17:48):
I've seen it a few times yes, oh.
Speaker 4 (17:52):
Boy, something else, something else, All right, we will see you.
Maybe you were running to you tomorrow down at the
Black Family Reunion.
Speaker 7 (18:00):
You most definitely will. I'll see you tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (18:02):
All right. That's Detective Tiffany Green who's working at the
Black Family Reunion, and I saw your point. We'll look
for her.
Speaker 4 (18:11):
Look for the people in the pink t shirts during
the parade down Marrying Way. Yes, that's where the parade
will go, down Marrying Way, and I think it'll start
up near the Cincinnati Black Music Walk of Fame.
Speaker 3 (18:26):
I think that's where everything starts. So get ready for that.
Speaker 4 (18:30):
Yes, yes, it all jumps off tomorrow, but everything's going
on now the breakfast Fountain Square.
Speaker 3 (18:39):
This morning, I passed by there.
Speaker 4 (18:41):
On my way here, and I saw a lot of
people sitting at tables and yeah, they got it all
set up, tables on Fountain Square ready for breakfast. Yes,
so that should be pretty good. Cynthia Booth, keynote speaker
this morning. How about that? Yeah, all right, let's go
(19:02):
to the phones. Let's take a well, at least we
can go to one call before we go to break
and let's go to Cecil Thomas. Cecil Thomas and and
then yes, go ahead, cecil.
Speaker 6 (19:12):
Hey Lingoa Mante. I tell you, this is the first
time I'm gonna miss the Black Family reunion and all
this stuff going on. I'm trying to get some rest
and relaxation. I'm hearing Martha's Vineyard.
Speaker 3 (19:23):
Oh, Martha's Vineyard.
Speaker 6 (19:25):
Okay, yeah, man, it's a lot going on up here.
I'll tell you I'm enjoying it now. But you know
what you're talking about, the youth. Last night, I was
on this circuit. That's that's the main you know, script
that you want to go to when you get to
Martha's Vineyards where all of the activities and stuff are
(19:46):
going on, and they were a significant amount of young
people out there milling about. But man, they were so behaved.
You know, I'm saying, what is it we're doing wrong
in Cincinnati.
Speaker 4 (20:00):
Well, I think, Okay, if they're at Martha's Vineyards, they
probably their parents probably make a decent amount of money,
and they probably don't have to want for food or
anything like that. And you know, like Iris always says,
these kids are hungry when they get out the bus.
They're mean, they're mad, they're hungry, and they're just a
(20:22):
recipe for wanting to fight.
Speaker 3 (20:24):
I guess.
Speaker 6 (20:26):
Well, we're gonna have to do some im planning, man,
to bring some of the kids down here to Cincinnati. Help, yes,
show them how to behave in Cincinnati. But anyway, you know,
I watched these stuff last yesterday. I come myself trying
to get away from everything, but I can't. That's why
I'm listening to the Lincoln were sure. I'm feel like
I'm missing something, but I watched the the arrangements yesterday,
(20:53):
and man, I have to agree with Clyde Man. This
is just a stretch, a real stretch to charge those
folks the way they charged him. So that there's a
lot gonna be coming out as a resolved that Scotty's
gonna be calling in. I talked to him today. He's
gonna call with out some new some additional things we're
(21:15):
gonna do. Well, one additional thing we're gonna do first
before we do anything else. Okay, but we're not gonna
let this go Lincoln. Uh, the gentleman that slapped the
individual should have been charged, even if it was just
a spault, he should have been charged. Uh. And if
the individual that he slapped wanted to charge him, they
(21:37):
should have allowed him to charge him. So, uh, that's
but they're getting around that, they're trying to and they're
trying to create a different narrative that uh, black folks
started the whole thing. That doesn't matter if the black
folks started something and it was over when they uh
two people were breaking up, the pushing and shove between
(22:00):
the black guy and the white guy, and the white
guy reach over and snapping that white guy still can
be charged under the under the state of our law.
But anyway, that's just here in the there. But yeah,
we're gonna be doing a lot more, uh and that,
so people can't expect Please be patient, don't don't think
we are doing anything. But it's all coming. And Scott
(22:24):
didn't make an announcement today one of the things we're
gonna be following up on.
Speaker 3 (22:29):
All right, sounds good. I'll wait to hear from Scottie.
Speaker 4 (22:33):
And uh, so you got your airbnb up there or what?
Speaker 6 (22:36):
No? No, no, one of our family members purchased the
home up here. Okay, yeah, okay, so we're all up
here family, A lot of the families up here on
my side of the family. Man, I'll tell you y'all
missing a lot from Cincinnati. I'm sorry, I might not
come back.
Speaker 3 (22:57):
You gotta look for your for sale sign up there
at the house.
Speaker 6 (23:05):
All right, Hey, make sure you let no walking club.
I won't be there, but.
Speaker 4 (23:13):
All right tomorrow, all right, all right, Cecil, thanks for
your god. That's Cecil Thomas. Of course, he's a member
of the Lincoln Wear Walking Club.
Speaker 3 (23:22):
He comes, he shows up too. I haven't seen Curtin lately.
Speaker 4 (23:27):
I haven't seen him out there lately, but I'm sure
he's probably somewhere on a cruise somewhere. Uh, Captain Curdon, Yeah,
I haven't seen him lately. I got an apb out
on him. But yeah, we'll be walking in the parade tomorrow,
so folks, make sure you come on down and wave
us as we walk by a marrying way. Let's take
(23:49):
a break. Twelve thirty The Buzz twelve thirty w dB
Z The Buzz of Cincinnati, your talk station, as we
broadcast live here at First Financial Bank for the BFR
Lounge and Jackie Taggart Boyd being honored this year in
the BFR Lounge. All Right, the last Republican to serve
(24:13):
on Cincinnati City Council. It's considering another run. When is
the deadline for the signatures? Man, she's gotta be cutting
the clothes. My good friend Liz Keating is running for
city council.
Speaker 3 (24:28):
Gonna give it another shot.
Speaker 4 (24:30):
Yeah, And I mean that's There's not too many Republicans
that I can say I like, but Liz Keating is
one of them. I'm telling you, she's a good real
She's what you call a good Republican. Yes, she's a
(24:52):
good Republican. Yes, yeah, you said, You're probably said to yourself,
are there any good Republicans? I never knew that, But yet, Liz,
if they're here's a good Republican. Liz Keating is one
of them, let me tell you. And she's gonna give
another shot another run at city council. And she missed
by just a couple of hundred votes last time. I think, yes,
(25:15):
So we'll see what happens this time, and she may
have a chance because there's gonna be a lot more
Republicans out voting in the council election this year, especially
with Corey Bowman and all that, and black folks might
not want to get up and get out and vote.
Speaker 3 (25:36):
They'll call themselves mad at af tab.
Speaker 4 (25:38):
They'll be mad at af tab and then they'll be
even more mad if Corey Bowman gets in, which I
kind of doubt whether that'll happen. But I'm just saying,
don't stay home, folks. Don't stay home. You're only hurting
yourself if you don't get out and vote this election.
Speaker 3 (25:55):
Then you want to be mad or miserable.
Speaker 4 (25:58):
Yes, yeah, and they'll be miserable if they don't get
out and vote.
Speaker 3 (26:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (26:06):
But like I said, my good friend Liz Keating, and boy,
she's gonna have to get some signatures real fast. But
like I said, those Republicans they got something. You know,
They've got some people designated that they know are are
are registered to vote, and they just get those petitions
to those people and there's no question that they're gonna
(26:28):
be good signatures, and they get them there somehow, they
get them out there, and you can get five hundred
signatures before you.
Speaker 3 (26:36):
Can bat an eye.
Speaker 4 (26:38):
Yeah, they don't have to show up here, show up
there here, and they're trying to get They got this
machine going and they get those signatures like now, so
we'll see. All right, let's get back to the phones.
Five one, three, seven, four, nine, twelve thirty let's go
to uh, let's go to the pharaoah Pharaoh. How how
(27:01):
you doing?
Speaker 3 (27:04):
Yes, yes, I did, I need, I need.
Speaker 4 (27:07):
I talked to the director, the headman of the Cincinnati
Recreation Commission, and he wants to talk to you.
Speaker 3 (27:17):
And I got to get your number again.
Speaker 4 (27:19):
Uh when I when before we go off the air,
I'm gonna put you on hold and you give it
to Terrence. Okay, Yeah, he wants to talk to you.
Speaker 1 (27:28):
Yeah, okay, I hold after I get off there. Okay,
all right, Okay.
Speaker 3 (27:32):
I saw him yesterday.
Speaker 4 (27:33):
He was at the uh uh support Iris Rowley rally.
I saw him yesterday there, so and we talked about you.
He had heard about your problems and he's gonna try
to straighten it out.
Speaker 1 (27:47):
Okay, that could I was, you know, get the number.
I'll hold after speak.
Speaker 3 (27:52):
Okay, all right.
Speaker 1 (27:54):
But Lincoln, Oh what I called about was this whole
situation about this white guy not being charged, Okay, which
I figured as much anyway, because I remember if you
remember Lincoln or read about the Black Colds back in
(28:17):
the eighteen eighties.
Speaker 3 (28:19):
Yes, yes, one of.
Speaker 1 (28:21):
The black Colds said that a slave, a former slave,
you know, couldnot strike a white person, even in self defense.
So that was one of the black coals. Now I'm
asking you a question. I am not arresting this white man.
(28:45):
How far removed do you think white people are from
those days of oak?
Speaker 3 (28:54):
How far removed are we up to that?
Speaker 1 (28:57):
I mean the day from the days of Oak.
Speaker 4 (29:00):
Well, I think if there's clear well, if there is
clear evidence that but the the.
Speaker 3 (29:11):
Well, you could say that because the guy that he hit, the.
Speaker 1 (29:14):
Person that indirectly apply the same principles that they believed
in in the eighteen eighties when the black poles were created. Lincoln,
when black, I mean when fight politicians come into the
black community, who are the first people they go see?
Speaker 3 (29:35):
Church? Folks, the preacher, I would say, black church.
Speaker 1 (29:40):
Why do they come to the black preacher?
Speaker 4 (29:43):
Because they know the preacher has power over over thereat.
Speaker 1 (29:49):
To persuade his people. Yes, what I'm saying is Lincoln.
If you remember, back in nineteen sixty six, Senator up
here in New York, Danuel pack Trick from more in
a hand, Okay, he made a statement that I always
will remember. The statement is that we only understand those
(30:12):
people who we educate. Think about that. That was his statement,
We only understand the people who we educate. So this
is why your white politicians come and go to the
black handkerchief head preachers, because see, we educate you and indoctrinate,
(30:35):
indoctrinate you with our philosophy, our religious theology and everything else. See,
so you have the power over your people. So if
I can get you in my corner and slipping you
a few dollars under the table for your church, see,
you'll persuade your people.
Speaker 3 (30:54):
See yeah, in there that.
Speaker 1 (31:01):
But my thing is Lincoln. First of all, these teachers, reverends,
like reverends like Crazy Smith and Reverend Lynch. I wonder
about a black man with his name Lynch, what we've
been through historically, and you had your last name Lynch.
You are suspecting me, Lincoln. Not only that. Hey, look,
(31:25):
can let me finish.
Speaker 4 (31:26):
What I'm saying, Well, make this statement, But I can't
let you go on without going back.
Speaker 1 (31:32):
Okay, So maybe I know that the.
Speaker 4 (31:35):
Master of the plantation, maybe their last name was Lynch,
and you know, slaves took the master's last night when
they were free, just.
Speaker 1 (31:44):
Like a black person with the last name of Butts
b U Tts. I question people like that. I wonder
about you Lynchburg, Virginia Burgh, Tennessee, And I wonder about
these names back boy, have these names. But Lincoln, I
heard you questioning about Avondale. Yes, you're speaking about what
(32:06):
they were building in Avondale, all these townhouses and condominiums.
What happened? Did not Blacks in Avandale in the sixties, seventies,
eighties did not they want these very same things done.
Speaker 3 (32:24):
Yes, back then they did. And they even say in
the article in the inquiry.
Speaker 4 (32:29):
They said they've been trying to get that Burning Avenue
section built up for a long time, but it's finally coming.
Speaker 1 (32:37):
They wanted this done in the sixties, seventies and eighties,
the black community. But why wasn't it done then?
Speaker 3 (32:45):
I'm not sure. I'm not you why why.
Speaker 1 (32:48):
They wanted to get the blacks out of there? And
they were making blacks paid for the riot sixty seven
sixty Okay, you're making blacks and paid for this is
why they would not build any saying but they're not
building these condominiums for black folks. It's as my father said.
When I was twelve years old, I was riding in
(33:09):
my father's car and he said, I saw construction going on.
Speaker 4 (33:12):
Hey, they're building it for whoever can afford it. That's
some black folks, whether you believe it or not. And
there are black folks in Cincinnati making some good money
can't afford you.
Speaker 1 (33:22):
That is a few. But I'm saying generally speaking. My father,
I asked my father, Daddy, what they're building over there.
My father, he just said, plain and simple, I don't
know what they're building. Whatever it is they're building, it
ain't with.
Speaker 8 (33:36):
You and mine.
Speaker 1 (33:37):
And I never understood that. But when I got older,
I thought about.
Speaker 3 (33:41):
It, and I think.
Speaker 1 (33:43):
We all understand their building. And you don't do this
for Avondale like they're doing in the West End. You know,
black folks in the West didn't want it. All of
what they're doing down there now. They wanted it forty
fifty six years ago, but nobody had the money. Where's
the money gonna come?
Speaker 3 (34:01):
I hear you, and I got to get money. It
is there is there, all right? I gotta go. Thanks
where you came, Thanks where you call. I gotta go.
He won't stop.
Speaker 4 (34:09):
Let's take a break, coming up at eleven o'clock, Coming
up at eleven. Kevin Aldridge from the Inquiry and he's
gonna wrap up all this stuff. He's gonna talk Iris Rowley.
He's gonna talk about the the the perpetrators, and the
the riot they call it.
Speaker 3 (34:24):
I don't know how it was a riot. I thought,
you know what I think of riot.
Speaker 4 (34:27):
I think of fires, people throwing molotov cocktails, running down
the streets, turning over garbage cans, fighting the police.
Speaker 3 (34:35):
That's what I think a riot is.
Speaker 4 (34:36):
I never thought of a little brawl as a riot,
and that's what they're trying to call this a riot.
Speaker 3 (34:42):
Let's take a break. We'll come back twelve thirty.
Speaker 4 (34:45):
The Buzz eleven o'clock Kevin Aldridge from the Cincinnati Inquirer.
Speaker 3 (34:50):
He'll be right here.
Speaker 4 (34:52):
He's at the First Financial Bank. That's where I'm broadcasting
from Fourth and Vine for the BFR Lounge. So come
on down. Lunch will be sir. And they're bringing in
free food. Yeah, all you got to do is stop
down free food. If it's free, it's for me, Yes,
it is all right. Alisha Reese is on. Then we
got the Mississippi James, Elijah mister Wells and Bill Alisha Reese.
Speaker 9 (35:15):
How are you, hey, Lincoln. I'm doing fantastic. First of all,
I want to congratulate congratulate Tracy Artists again on Black
Family Reunion, and I will be stopping by on my
way out of town to celebrate Jackie Tagger Boys, who
will also be celebrated today, and I want to just
(35:37):
congratulate her. And she is now member of my office team,
but she's done so much, so I'm excited. I'm happy
that they are honoring her today. Unfortunately, I've been to
almost every parade, but this one I won't be able
to be here. I've got to leave town this evening
on a family matter. But I certainly know everything will
(35:58):
go well for this weekend, so I'm excited about that.
And then I wanted to remind everyone Lincoln. I want
to tell you you're doing a good job. Lincoln. Last
year we each got an opportunity to appoint someone to
the Veterans Commission, and I couldn't think of a better
person than the proud Marine Lincoln Ware and he's done
a great job. I'm seeing a lot of advertising and
(36:21):
marketing that we didn't have before. We were at odds
a year ago with Veterans Services and veterans and not
enough money and I'm just happy that we have the
largest budget in history, I think over two million dollars
that we've ever had for veterans, and I want to
remind all veterans the people who served in the military.
(36:42):
One of the ideas I had was let's have a
Hamilton County one day veteran event where we bring all
the help to one location. We did it last year
at Great American Ballpark and a free three thousand veterans
showed up. We had entertainment. I said, listen, I want
to have a bank. I want to have some entertainment.
I said, hey, PM Everything Price and All Star band,
(37:05):
and so I just got a I just got a
text from her and she said that they have Riall
re hired her and they're gonna pay her. I said,
that's fantastic, ause you was called to say thank you.
So saw your point. Next Saturday, all veterans and they're
gonna have all the help right there. This is our
second annual, and I'm just so excited that I was
(37:28):
able to go from an idea to something that's really
helping veterans. We did three thousand last year. We want
to do more this year. It's absolutely free there'll be
some free parking if you show you military ID, free
bus rides, if you show you military ID. They're going
to be right on the spot helping people with disability,
signing them up. Bring the entire family, and I understand
(37:51):
they're gonna have everything from housing, the food. Everything is
two o'clock next week, two until ten pm next week.
I courage everyone to get out. The other thing, Lincoln,
I know of you saw it in the paper. You know,
the article about the Bengals lease might now be in
ballot because it didn't have the right paperwork or something legal.
(38:14):
We done vote it on this least three or about
three times, and they're now talking about possibly another vote.
And as you know, Legan, I voted against it because
I said it should go to the ballot. You see
how confusing it is. It needs to go to the
ballot with the voters having a say. You see what's
happening in Hyde Park. When Hyde Park said we're going
(38:35):
to the ballot. Now they're saying, well, we want us
hear what hyde Park got to say. If you don't
take it to the ballot, you don't get to hear
from the people. And the first time they took it
to the ballot. They said, we're gonna give a thirty
percent rebate because they had to give something to the people.
Now we had to fight for it to implement it.
But this deal wrote out the thirty percent. You can't
(38:55):
even get a thirty percent property tax robot. I can't
even introduce it. We the people out because they knew
they never had to come to the people. So this
has been another mess. They claimed that the it's invalid.
I don't know if it is or not. If so,
it'd be our third or fourth vote. Again, I think
it could go. And I heard this legislation, I couldn't
(39:16):
get one to agree. You have to get to to
put it on the ballot so that everybody in Hamilton
County can read it and decipher themselves. So leaguing according
to what they said in the paper, we might be
running with an invalid lease after all, So please stay tuned.
And then lastly, we got I do a back to
(39:38):
school and Hamilton County now for the second year, is
doing our back to school. It's going to be Saturday
in a gayfe ministry ten am to two pm. Free
book bags, haircuts, physicals, all of that and no charge.
So just wanted everybody to know what's going on and
what's available. And I hope to see all veterans a
(40:00):
African Americans that served but never get the services. So
please come out next Saturday at Sawyer point two pm
to ten pm.
Speaker 4 (40:09):
We'll be out there, all right, Alisha Revee, good talking
to you, and uh, all right, you have a good
trip down to Florida.
Speaker 10 (40:19):
Thank you, appreciate it.
Speaker 9 (40:20):
I'm gonna make sure of the family now, so I
got different responsibilities.
Speaker 4 (40:25):
All right, thanks great, Thanks for your call. That's Alisha
Reese and she's laying it out there.
Speaker 3 (40:30):
Boy. We got boy, we got a show coming up. Y'all,
don't want to leave.
Speaker 4 (40:34):
We got Kevin Aldridge from the Inquiry. We got Scottie
Johnson is down here too. Everybody's been calling for Scottie Johnson.
He is here, Yes, he is here. Scottie Johnson is
in the house. Even steph An is here.
Speaker 3 (40:48):
Man.
Speaker 4 (40:48):
I tell you so, y'all, folks, stick around and fasten
your seat belts. Fasten your seat belts, all right, five, one, three,
seven thirty. I think we got time for one call
before eleven and eleven. We're gonna talk to Kevin Aldrich
for a few minutes. Then we got Scottie Johnson. Let's
go to Mississippi James. Mississippi James, and thank you for
showing up yesterday to donate blood for the Red Cross
(41:12):
and for the Black Family Reunion and for the sickle
cell patients.
Speaker 3 (41:16):
Thank you for doing that.
Speaker 10 (41:18):
Yes, sir, mister Lincoln. When I was on the fire department,
we had a contests against the police, So I actually
used to donate every eight weeks. You allow you every
eight weeks so to get that unit up. Now do
this mean I get to call in for the next
month every day?
Speaker 3 (41:38):
Did I say? Did I say that? I think I
did say that?
Speaker 2 (41:42):
Did that?
Speaker 3 (41:43):
What was I drinking? I don't know what was I drinking?
Speaker 10 (41:46):
And you was a friend of some people's calling in?
Well much to say anyway, But what I will say,
sort of pigging back off of Payroh said, you know,
we we we'll sow into religion that it seemed like
we forget about the spirit and religion is man made,
(42:07):
you know, and we'll get we get hyped up on
the music and the preaching and then go back and
do the same thing over again. The good, bad or
the ugly, But we got to have more talks about
what the spirit would do. And I got some ideas
and some examples in my life that I can share.
So maybe over this next month I get a chance
(42:28):
to share some of some of them. But yeah, that
was a good thing. I was also down with Irish rolling.
And then I went to the Bernice Kings at the
church last night.
Speaker 6 (42:39):
Yeah, and that was a.
Speaker 10 (42:40):
Good form they did because she didn't preach. She set
down with Curtis Fuller and it's like they had a
fireside chat.
Speaker 3 (42:48):
Yeah. Yeah, yeah, Okay, were you there. I didn't make it. No,
I didn't make it.
Speaker 10 (42:54):
I mean she revealed some stuff that made you almost
like you was a family member because she brought out
she was five when a dad got assassinated, as she said,
and h you know, she bring out a lot of stuff.
So it was interesting to be there.
Speaker 4 (43:11):
All right, Mississippi James, I'm just about out of time.
I got a run, but uh, we'll talk to you.
I promise if you donated blood, you could call every
day for a month. I did say that. So you
were one of the lucky winners. You and Ozzy are
the only two. And I don't know the other.
Speaker 3 (43:26):
Two ladies who they were.
Speaker 4 (43:29):
But uh yeah, thank you Mississippi James appreciate it.
Speaker 10 (43:34):
Hey, and this is no hope, no hope. All right,
all right, good bye.
Speaker 4 (43:39):
Thanks for your car. Okay, there you go. See all
you had to do was show up and donate blood
and you could call in every day. See there, yes, yeah,
see y'all afraid of those needles. All right, we're gonna
break for news. We're gonna talk to Kevin Aldridge for
a few minutes and then Scottie Johnson here. What he
has to say, say what's coming down the pike. We're
(44:01):
gonna say coming down the pike, not what's not what's
in the in the in the chamber, not what's in
the chamber, what's coming down the pike, right right right.
We'll talk to him about that. Unbelievable how they try
to stretch everything you say, they nitpick.
Speaker 3 (44:19):
Unbelievable. All right, let's break for news. We'll come back
twelve thirty.
Speaker 4 (44:23):
The buzz Ation Lincoln Ware with you till one o'clock
this afternoon. And used to read his articles in the
Inquiry and he always brings the you know.
Speaker 3 (44:34):
He comes up with stuff you don't think about in
those articles.
Speaker 4 (44:38):
Man, we got everybody jam Michelle lemon Kearny is even here, boy,
I tell you this is We're rocking here at the
BFR lounge at the First Financial Bank on the corner
of Fourth and buying Kevin Aldridge. Man, that's been boy,
you've been writing or your hands tired from right your
hands tired from writing all those stories.
Speaker 11 (44:56):
Man, listen, there is so much going on you can't
you know, you can tell it all, you can't write
about it all. I sit back every day and try
to think, like, what is what is the angle? What's
something new that you can bring to the table to
try to answer questions for the people and provide some perspective.
And there's no shortage these days in Cincinnati stuff.
Speaker 3 (45:15):
To talk about. All right, let's start with Iris Rowley.
Speaker 4 (45:18):
Then we'll go to the to the people who were
arrested for they say rioting.
Speaker 3 (45:25):
Let's start with Iris Roly. What do you think is
gonna happen with her?
Speaker 11 (45:28):
Nothing? I think Iris is going to ultimately be fine.
I mean, I think the mayor has kind of made
it somewhat clear that he doesn't think Iris should go anywhere.
And although he left it up to the city manager
to say it was the city manager's decision. My expectation
is is that she'll survive this. I mean, IRIS has
given five years of great and positive service to the
(45:53):
city of Cincinnati. I think a lot of her work
and the work of others who have been involved with
the collaborative, have have led to what is a national
model for policing reform around the country. And so, look,
we can all be critical of, you know, how she
might have handled a situation, or how she might have spoken.
Could she have used different words in a certain situation, Certainly,
(46:17):
you know, reasonable people can disagree on that. But I
think to throwaway twenty five years for what I think
is a political attack, I mean, look, there are some
who have been looking to get rid of Iris for
a long time, and I think, you know, this situation
with the brawl downtown has opened up a Pandora's box
(46:38):
of political attacks and to go after the opponents and
people that you don't like. And I think that's what's
happening here.
Speaker 3 (46:44):
Oh man, okay, so boy, and now they were in
court yesterday.
Speaker 4 (46:48):
I think six of them were in court yesterday, and
I think the seventh when finally came back to Cincinnati.
Speaker 3 (46:55):
So what did you think about what happened in court yesterday? Yeah,
I think so.
Speaker 11 (47:01):
First of all, I've been on the record kind of
saying this that I kind of feel like, you know,
not that people shouldn't be held accountable, but I think
there might be a case of some overcharging here. I mean,
you talked about this notion of what do they call
it aggravated rioting or whatever that is. I don't know
enough about what that charge entails, but it certainly seems
like when they said they were going to throw the
(47:22):
book at these at these individuals, it seems like that's
exactly what they're trying to do. And this could certainly
be a part of, you know, an overall prosecutorial strategy
of trying to get folks to ultimately plead out to
something to something less or we'll see how many how
many of those charges stand up. But that was kind
of my initial reaction was perhaps a bit of a
(47:43):
bit of an overcharging situation there. What about the white
Russian and this is this guy Russian? Or what we
were I mean we I called him the white Russian.
The mayor didn't think we should call him that, But
is he Russian. Who in the hell is this guy?
Speaker 3 (47:57):
Do you know?
Speaker 4 (47:58):
I know you're in the newspaper, you might know, who
in the hell is this guy?
Speaker 11 (48:01):
Yeah, I gotta be careful because again, just in terms
of you know, what's out there on the record and
what we can say responsibly. I mean, I think I'm
safe in saying that I do think that he is Russian.
I do think that that's a that's a fact. But
that matters less to me than the fact that, you know,
when the police chief came out and said in the
(48:23):
wake of this that everybody who laid hands on somebody
or who was involved in the violence was going to
be charged, I think a lot of people took her
at her word in that, and the fact that that
has not yet materialized for whatever reason, has a lot
of people upset. And so my thing is, why did
the police chief say that if that wasn't going to
(48:45):
be the case? And I think she or the police
department at a bare minimum, owe the public and explanation. Look,
if you don't think you have charges that you can
charge with the guy, that they can stick, that you
can't prosecute, or it's not a case that you can win,
then come out and say that. But the public deserves
to have an answer on that. You can't continue to
hide behind this is an ongoing investigation. Look, this thing
(49:07):
has been weeks going on. If you're still investigating, If
your investigation was done enough to charge and indict seven people,
then it should be done enough to make a declaration
on this individual. And so the police chief and the
city police department needs to quit dragging their heels and
deal with whatever the ramifications are of what their decision is.
Speaker 3 (49:27):
I mean, it is what it is.
Speaker 11 (49:28):
If you feel like you don't have a case that
you can win, say that the people deserve it.
Speaker 3 (49:33):
Wow. Okay, Kevin Aldridge, what's coming down to Pike for you?
Speaker 4 (49:36):
Any new articles we should look for in the inquiry
because you pop them in there, you're not expecting them
in Boom.
Speaker 3 (49:42):
There you go.
Speaker 11 (49:43):
Yeah, So I am writing on in fact, what I
just kind of expressed about the need for the police
department to provide because there's a lot of misinformation or
I shouldn't say misinformation or just lack of information where
there are a lot of video circuit lad and around
people are trying to piece together what happened when and whatnot.
(50:04):
I think the police owe a narrative to the people
to help kind of explain how things got started and
how things progressed and what happened when in where, Because
a lot of people are basing their opinions on segments
of videos that might be in order, might be out
of order, We don't know, so there's an obligation to
sort of clear that up. And then going back to
(50:25):
what I said about the charging decisions, the other thing
I really want to write about too, and this is
probably a heavier lift, is just talking about the role
that race played in this whole thing, and how we
are very poor at talking about it and in a
lot of ways dishonest in our conversations about it, and
sort of what we need to do to have a
(50:46):
real conversation and not deny the role that race is
playing in this.
Speaker 3 (50:51):
Now And why do you think this thing?
Speaker 4 (50:54):
I mean, truly, if this had been all black people involved,
a black woman got punched in the face and knocked out,
we saw our eyes open up. We thought she was dead.
With this thing had gone viral.
Speaker 11 (51:08):
You know, everybody has their opinions on that, right. I
think there's no denying that the black white dynamic is
what has fueled and continues to fuel. This is what
I mean about the dishonesty and the conversation and being
upfront because you know, I get perspectives in my role.
I get perspectives from all across the city. And white
folks are saying the same thing. They're saying that you know, hey,
(51:30):
because this is this is white. Like if it were
a white person attacking a black person, like the media would,
the liberal media would be handling it different. So everybody
is coming at it from their racial lens about how
they think things would be shaking out. And that's that's
the kind of conversation that we need to have, like, like,
why when we look at these things through the racial lens,
(51:53):
does it become so distorted that we can't see the
humanity in each other and the equal application of the
law towards each other. And that's that's that's what I'm
trying to get to. That's that's gonna be a tough rite,
but we'll see looking for that.
Speaker 3 (52:08):
And I tell people, you know, a lot of people.
Speaker 4 (52:10):
I don't subscribe to the online inquir but you I'm
really folks, you miss a lot when you don't know
what's going on in your own So you can't just
go by what you see on social media. You gotta
get the story from the people who write the stories
and who are not biased one way or another. They
should subscribe at least just get the online version of
the Inquiry because there's so much going on that you
(52:34):
will miss out on.
Speaker 11 (52:36):
They need to do that, Yes, sir, hey, local journalism
is important because you got to remember that while the
national media is reporting on this and portraying Cincinnati in
a certain way, they are not here on the ground,
writing and reporting this on the day to day asking
the questions, hearing what people in Cincinnati are talking about.
So if you want to get if you want to
(52:57):
get as close to the real as you possibly can get,
it starts with local journalism. It's way more than your
MSNBC's or your Fox News is when it comes to
Cincinnati news and information. And don't always say you know
you will recognize what you don't have when it's gone.
Speaker 4 (53:14):
You know, there you go, there you go. Now you'll
be at the BFR with the Ohio Kings. You guys
have a tent set up and tell us a little
bit about the Ohio Kings before I let you go.
Speaker 11 (53:24):
Yeah, So the Ohio Kings were Cincinnati's professional sports basketball team,
entering six seasons here. That's the longest professional basketball enterprise
in the city of Cincinnati. Maybe outside of the Royals,
anybody else who has attempted it hasn't been around as
long as we have. And so Tracy Artists a few
years ago approached us about, you know, operating the sports
(53:46):
pavilion out there, and we appreciate that opportunity to create
more awareness and be a part of that. So we'll
be out there all weekend. Our players, coaches, general managers
will be in the parade. So come on by, check
us out, shoot a few hoops with some players. I
think we got some contests and prizes going on. So
looking forward to a great, positive weekend to offer a
(54:06):
different side of the narrative than what might be common
about black folks in Cincinnati.
Speaker 4 (54:11):
All right, Kevin Aldrich, always great to talk to you,
and we'll definitely have you back again sometime real soon.
Speaker 11 (54:16):
All right, thanks, Licas.
Speaker 3 (54:17):
All right, that's Kevin aldridg Cincinni Inquirer. You'll see his articles.
Speaker 4 (54:22):
He leaves to have a couple in their week so
watch out for those we're gonna take a break.
Speaker 3 (54:26):
We'll come back.
Speaker 4 (54:27):
Scottie Johnson is here, Scotti and jam Michelle, both of
them are coming in. Okay, all right, so stick around
for that. Everybody's been looking for Scottie Johnson. I was
down there with Iris Rowley, black men standing up for
Iris Rowley. They were asking me the twenty four hours
are up?
Speaker 3 (54:44):
What's up?
Speaker 4 (54:44):
Well, we'll find out in a moment with Scottie Johnson.
So stick around twelve thirty the buzz I'm raere with
you until one o'clock this afternoon as we broadcast live
here at First Financial for the BFR Lounge, and they'll
be here all afternoon. Food to be served later. I
seen the cold back there getting the food ready.
Speaker 3 (55:05):
Free food.
Speaker 4 (55:05):
Come on down here. The breakfast was earlier this morning
up on Fountain Square. I think that's over now. People
are coming down. I see Brother Powell here, Stephan is here,
She Smith is here, and it's a host of others. Yeah, yeah,
Robert Humphries is here in the house.
Speaker 3 (55:22):
So come on down, check us out.
Speaker 4 (55:24):
Scottie Johnson, Boy, your name has been in the news
a lot lately since the press conference the other day,
and we got jam Michelle Liman Kearney here.
Speaker 3 (55:32):
Also, let's start with you, Scottie.
Speaker 4 (55:36):
You said twenty four you mentioned forty eight hours that
time has coming gone.
Speaker 3 (55:41):
What next?
Speaker 8 (55:42):
Well, you know, and actually it wasn't me that said that,
But that's okay, you know, that's okay.
Speaker 5 (55:46):
They lumped me in with everybody else. But here's where we.
Speaker 8 (55:49):
Are, Lincoln, Thursday morning, ten am. I have called for
a special session of Safety and Governance Committee and the
Vice Mayor is on that committee, and Albi's on that committee,
Mark Jeffries. But all council is invited and it's time
to answer questions as to where the investigation is.
Speaker 5 (56:12):
The where and the why.
Speaker 8 (56:15):
I was an investigator for thirteen years and it does
not take a month to look at videos.
Speaker 5 (56:24):
And make a decision.
Speaker 8 (56:26):
I think everybody is frustrated, everybody. But in that frustration,
we deserve answers. The community deserves answers. They elected us
to represent them and from what I'm gathering, and if
you paid any attention, I think it was Monday when
we were at New Prospect. People want answers and they
(56:46):
deserve those answers. So special session Thursday morning, ten am
in Council Chambers, the police chief, the city manager, and
the city solicitor will should be present to respond to
those questions.
Speaker 4 (57:03):
Okay, so you got the chief, city manager and the
city solicitor, because if the charges are not a felony charge,
they would go to the city solicitor.
Speaker 8 (57:14):
Correct, exactly, the city solicitor can handle the misdemeanor charges.
We will extend an invitation to the county prosecutor to
come also. But this is it's just time to put
up or shut up and then allow us as a
(57:35):
community to move forward and heal. This is like I said,
I spent thirteen years as an investigators. I investigated shootings,
aggravated robberies. I was called in to assist in some
homicide cases during that time too. It does not take
a month to look at video and make a decision.
Speaker 4 (57:55):
I just wonder they keep saying it's investigation and it
is taking Yeah, this is the longest investigator. Like you said,
they wrapped up murder investigations quicker than this.
Speaker 5 (58:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (58:05):
Absolutely, So it's just time to get there and it's
open to the public at Thursday morning, ten am.
Speaker 4 (58:13):
Council Chambers, Now, jam Michelle m and Kearney, you just
came in from Montgomery, Alabama and talking about the safety
and how to stop the violence.
Speaker 3 (58:25):
The mayor was on with his presentation. He had the
end of the day.
Speaker 4 (58:30):
So what did did you find out any information on
your trip and can we use any of the information
you've found out? Will it help cut down on violence
here in Cincinnati.
Speaker 12 (58:40):
Yeah, so this was just more training about advanced piece
and so we've talked about that. It's a program we
really need here. People are saying, you know, lies about it.
For example, they just pay criminals one thousand dollars a
month and all of that, and that's not how it works.
I mean, it's about I'll say it again, positive reinforcement
somewhat meets ago. So it's up to their neighborhood change
(59:02):
agent to decide what that reward might be. It might
be five dollars, it might be fifty dollars. I mean,
it's not like people just get money for nothing. I mean,
it's really about changing behavior. And when you see that
this is something we need to do in our city.
If we're really committed to stopping gun violence, we have
to make a serious commitment to it and stop talking
(59:23):
about it. Let's do it and we have a program
that works all across the country. But having said that,
switching back to what you and Scotty are talking about,
Scotty called me and he said, you know, under the
rules of council, we can call a special session if
we have two council members. And so I said, I
support you with that, because I think we have been
we the city have been strung along, and you know,
(59:46):
there's been enough time to do a thorough investigation. So
let's just be honest.
Speaker 3 (59:50):
Are we bringing charges or are we not?
Speaker 12 (59:53):
And so when I look at that videotape, somebody talking
about the N word, you know, putting up their dukes
like hey, come on and fight me, come on and
fight me, and then reaching over and slapping, and then
violence ensues. And if you heard Judge Tracy Hunter's interpretation
of Ohio Revice Code twenty nine to seventeen point oh
one in point oh two, the man who threw that
(01:00:13):
slap to me looked like the proximate cause of that
of that brawl. And so let's bring charges. And what
I'm saying is let the justice system work, but the
special And that's my opinion. And I'm allowed to say
that people like Oh you can't say that. Yes I can,
that is my opinion. But let me just say this.
The special session is so that those in charge can
(01:00:34):
explain to the public what happened, why they made decisions
that they made, so we can get the information out
there and people can stop feeling that they're being disrespected
and strung along, because that's not what we're aiming to do,
all right.
Speaker 4 (01:00:48):
So that's next Thursday morning, ten am. Council Chambers, the
police chief, the city manager, and the city solicitor will
be on the hot seat there to answer questions from
city council.
Speaker 12 (01:01:02):
It might not be the hot seat, Lincoln, come on.
Speaker 3 (01:01:05):
But you know I have to say stuff like that
to make it sound.
Speaker 12 (01:01:08):
You know, let me say, we're not trying to start
a fight. So I think everybody, you know, give the
administration a chance to speak. It's like you all speak
and explain what happened and why. That's what we're saying.
We're not going you know, we're not We're not like
trying to show to throw any shade on the administration.
We're just saying, come on, let's take this opportunity so
(01:01:29):
that the public understands what happens. So that we understand
what happened, because unlike what some people have said on
your show, we don't have any inside information, right, we
don't have infort. So I want to know too what happened,
Why were some charges made in some word?
Speaker 8 (01:01:43):
And then you know, just very quickly, Lincoln. You know,
truth should not be adversarial. Truth should be truth, and
that's what we need to be moving toward the everybody
in this community. Everybody in this community needs to be
treat it with respect and dignity and they and there's
(01:02:04):
a segment of this community that does not feel like
that's taking place. So if I'm representing this community, I'm
gonna do everything in my power to make sure that
everybody feels respected and everybody's treated with uh, treated with respect,
so dignity can arise.
Speaker 3 (01:02:23):
You can't you ask, You can't ask for any more
than that.
Speaker 8 (01:02:25):
It's simple, but you know the let me say this
and I don't know how much more time. What is
really sad, Lincoln, is the amount of hate, the amount
of hate that's being spewed toward myself, other members of council,
Irish Rowley. It's it's dangerous, It really is dangerous to
spew that level of hate when you're asking a question. So,
(01:02:48):
but I'm not I'm not running from it. I'm not
scared about it. But it's really telling what type of
country we live in and unfortunately, what type of city
we're living in where that I'm amount of hate can
be spewed because you ask questions.
Speaker 4 (01:03:03):
And now even Damon Lynch third, He's gonna be on
my TV show Sunday morning. He read some of the
hate mail that he's been getting, not just from Cincinnati,
but from around the world. I mean this thing, he's
getting hate mail from around the world.
Speaker 12 (01:03:15):
Most of these hate phone calls and we answer. You know,
a lot of people's messages get filled up to my office.
I think is answering the majority of the calls that
we're getting the city Hall. But but yeah, most of
them are from out of town. These are not Cincinnati
people who are acting like this. These are out of
town people stirring it up, trying to stir it up.
Speaker 5 (01:03:32):
I hope, I hope you're right, madam. You know you're
my rider died. I really do hope you're right.
Speaker 8 (01:03:37):
But it still sends a real sad signal to where
we are in this country.
Speaker 5 (01:03:43):
It is really pitiful.
Speaker 8 (01:03:45):
If I may, if I ask a question, then I'm
automatically an enemy and I deserve to be killed, and
I'm every type of blankety blank across.
Speaker 5 (01:03:53):
It's just it's ridiculous.
Speaker 12 (01:03:55):
Let me say, we cannot and you know Nelson Mandela
said this, we cannot have reconciliation and how we have truth.
So let's get the truth out there so that we.
Speaker 3 (01:04:02):
Know the facts.
Speaker 12 (01:04:03):
We all understand what happened and why A right.
Speaker 4 (01:04:06):
Scottie Johnson, jan Michelle lemon Kearney. We're looking forward to
the next Thursday ten o'clock council chambers and just be
a question and answer period. Okay, not hot seed, Okay,
I'll tone it down, question and answer period for the
chief city manager and the city solicitor.
Speaker 3 (01:04:23):
How about that.
Speaker 8 (01:04:24):
Don't be part of the problem, be part of the
solution with us. I love this man, but be part
of the solution with us, Lincoln, jam Michelle, Scottie got
him on the hot seat.
Speaker 4 (01:04:36):
It sounds good anyway, that sounds good. It makes for
good radio. Thank you both for Jordan me appreciated. All right,
let's take a break and we'll come back. We're broadcasting
live here First Financial Bank for the BFR Lounge going

Speaker 3 (01:05:29):
And let's see. I think I was the first.
Speaker 4 (01:05:31):
One to be honored here, then Curtis Fuller last year
I think it was. And this year Jackie Taggart Boyd
will be honored here at the BFR Lounge.
Speaker 3 (01:05:43):
Yes, so come on down.
Speaker 4 (01:05:45):
We're at the corner Fourth and Vine at First Financial Bank.
Speaker 3 (01:05:49):
I think the Dukester should be up. Let's go to Dukester.

Speaker 13 (01:05:54):

Speaker 4 (01:07:30):
Lincoln, All right, that's the Dukester right there in the
Summit Plaza on Reading Road and five, one, three, seven,
twelve thirty. Let's get him over here while we can.
Doctor Shockley, Doctor Shockley, the orthopedic man here and the boy.
I see so many men and women limping in Cincinnati.
(01:07:53):
Come on over here and sit right here, Doctor Shockley,
Come on over here. Put the ball heads together. We
got to put those ball heads together. Yes, how you doing?
Speaker 2 (01:08:06):
The life is good, Hello, Cincinnati. Great to be here.
We had a phenomenal, phenomenal event on Fountain Square today
with the Black Family Reunion being highlighted. The thirty seventh
annual Midwest Black Family reunion. I'm talking a time that
the community can be proud of and it's just starting.
Speaker 4 (01:08:26):
We got two guys, all right, he's hyped up, Doctor
Shockley is hyped up. And well, I tell you what
bothers folks, most is it knee?
Speaker 3 (01:08:35):
Are your hips?
Speaker 4 (01:08:36):
I see a lot of hip problems going on, a
lot of knee problems because I had the knee replacement
over at Try Health some years ago.
Speaker 3 (01:08:43):
But what what is the big problems nowadays?
Speaker 2 (01:08:46):
Yeah? So, so with health, number one is if we
want to try to keep you from having we want
to try to keep you from having knee and hip problems. Lincoln,
you know is the beneficiary of what happens when you
get severe arthritis. But our goal is to keep you healthy.
So that's knowing your numbers. So one of the things
(01:09:09):
that's real important relative to keeping your knees and hips
and your body healthy is knowing what your cholesterol is.
Because cholesterol can lead to increase weight, it can increase
heart disease, it can increase your chance of stroke. So
knowing your numbers your cholesterol, we want to keep you
(01:09:32):
exercising so that will keep your joints, your knees, and
your hips in order it'll help keep your cholesterol down.
And when I say exercise Lincoln, when I say exercise,
I say Lincoln Wear Walking Club. Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's
what I'm talking about. So the Lincolnware Walking Club is
a classic example of things that you can do to
(01:09:55):
help take care of your hips and knees and along
those lines. Another very important number is your blood sugar
or H one C that checks for diabetes. So we
want to make sure that we all know what our
A one C is. Now, if you're like me and
you've got that little sweet tooth that yeah, you know
(01:10:15):
that sweet tooth, You got that sweet tooth. Yeah, it's
really very important that sweet tooth or not, that you
check your hemoglobin A one C. And lastly, the one
that I want you to focus on is the blood pressure. Okay,
so blood pressure is really important because in this day
in time, we are all under a level of stress.
(01:10:40):
You know, I say a prayer every night for the
people of Cincinnati. I say a prayer every night for
our public officials like jan Kearney, Michelle Kearney, who is
doing a phenomenal job as well as a mayor Pure Vaal.
But that type of stress that you and we are
(01:11:00):
seeing can raise your blood pressure. All right, So let's
get back to the basics. So what I talked about
a little bit earlier, so simple activities watching what you eat.
That doesn't mean you can't eat what you like, but
eat it in moderation. Then once again, the simple activity
such as walking. You can find a little video that
(01:11:23):
you like and do it at home and the comforts
of your cool home. Stretching pilates all of these burned calories.
Let me underscore the importance of stretching. The more flexible
you are, the better your joints move, you have better
protection to decrease the risk of arthritis. So Lincoln, I
(01:11:46):
could go on and on about the benefits, but the
three things I do want to focus on, just real quickly,
is to know your numbers. Okay. Second thing is prevention
and screening. So this weekend we're gonna do free screening
down at the Health Pavilion. It's saw your point.
Speaker 3 (01:12:06):
Tryal.
Speaker 2 (01:12:06):
There's this big layout, a lot of people in this audience. Man,
this lounge just nice. By the way back at that
back table, you see that table back there, that's the
trial table. So you see tyre Williams. You see Katrina Ruglass,
you see right over here, Kittalina, Oh, Kidalina Mason phenomenal.
I mean, I'm telling you these and others you're gonna
see at our pavilion this weekend, and they're gonna screen
(01:12:30):
those three numbers. I just talked about cholesterol, hypertension, and
A one C. They're gonna be screening that. So our
goal is to decrease your risk of these potential chronic problems.
And most important for ladies is the risk of breast cancer.
(01:12:50):
Breast cancer pro say cancer, much greater risk in the
black population. There's certain simple screening tests. Some of these
things can be done in seconds. I'm talking seconds, not
even minutes, some minutes, but it's a very short amount
of time to be screened these days. So whether you're
getting it done easily this weekend at the pavilion it
(01:13:12):
saw your point between twelve and six, that's twelve noon
and six, or whether you're doing it with your primary
care doctor, you need to have those numbers check. So
the third component of what we're talking about, knowing your
numbers being screened, decreased rise of cancer. Number three. Number
three is connect to a primary care doctor you trust. Now,
(01:13:35):
I know that Lincoln has somebody he trusts. You know
that he's got someone that he can say, you know,
and I've heard him. I've heard him on the radio
talking about x Y or Z Man, you're raising my
blood pressure? Yeah yeah, yoh my goodness. So Lincoln, I
know he has a primary care doctor that is helping
him keeping all his stuff in check. So make sure
(01:13:55):
you come down twelve to six. Let's say thanks to
Tracy Artists when you down there, because it's because of her.
We're all here. It's because of her. I'm here today,
I see I see Curtis Fuller. Make sure you say
thank you to Curtis. You know, our living legend and
all the things that you can do that you can
do very easily. Continue to take care of your health.
(01:14:16):
Thank you.
Speaker 4 (01:14:17):
All right, doctor Shockley, you brody, let me tell you
thank you for stopping by. Good to see you, and
thanks for that plug for the Lincoln We're walking club.
Speaker 3 (01:14:24):
There we go.
Speaker 2 (01:14:25):
Yeah, yeah, make sure that you do it. And the
key is consistency. Don't just go to his walking club
once I'm talking about you need to be there weekly
if you really want to make a difference. Consistency is
the key, Lincoln, keep.
Speaker 4 (01:14:37):
It up, baby, all right, thank you for stop me by,
appreciate it. All right, it's doctor Shockley. Ibout a hand,
but doctor Shockley, Yes, yes, all right. Uh, let's see
we need to take a break, then we'll come back.
I got my man, Jordan Johnson from a Grow Community
he's here.
Speaker 3 (01:14:51):
Got Curtis fully here. We'll talk to him. Sondra Jones.
I see over there, a lot of folks in here
at the lounge. Come on down, check us out.
Speaker 4 (01:14:58):
At the corner of Fourth and Vine, right at the
first Financial Bank building, come on in. Stepan is here
and he's got his votes and he's doing his best.
Speaker 3 (01:15:06):
He's doing his best best.
Speaker 4 (01:15:10):
All right, let's take a break and then we'll come back.
Twelve thirty the buzz urch Yalk Station. Lincoln, we're with you,
and right here next to me, we got Jordan Johnson
with grow Community.
Speaker 3 (01:15:23):
And what's been going on with Grow Community?
Speaker 5 (01:15:26):
Man?
Speaker 3 (01:15:26):
What's going on?
Speaker 2 (01:15:27):
Lincoln?
Speaker 4 (01:15:27):
Man?
Speaker 14 (01:15:27):
It's been great man. We had a great time at
the breakfast this morning. And I want to tell you guys,
and this is great when Lincoln is doing man a legend.
Speaker 3 (01:15:34):
I'm here with a legend right here.
Speaker 4 (01:15:35):
All right, Jordan, you guys part of the Black Family Reunion.
You guys gonna have a tent set up down there. Man,
we are gonna have a tent right in the front,
right up front. I need y'all to stop by. We're
gonna have free t shirts, free bags. Lincoln, can I
tell a quick story?
Speaker 5 (01:15:48):
Real quick?
Speaker 14 (01:15:49):
So, man, I was in win Terrists last week. You know,
I'm servicing one of my clients, and uh, I got
out the car man. These young man they just kicking it, vibing.
I get out the car man. They say, what's going on,
big homie? What you do you coach? You play football?
And before I can even answer that question, one of
the young men that I noticed, I grew up with
his father and Avidel, and his father right now is incarcerated.
(01:16:11):
And it even hit me even harder. The same cycle
happened through our entire childhood. His father was incarcerated. That's
two generations, same cycle. So we're not just providing support
for these individuals. We are breaking these generational curses. We
are trying to get these young men stable. We want
them to have great jobs and families. So that's the
reason why we're doing this, and if you want to
(01:16:32):
help us, please give us a call at five one
three two three three seven eight four seven, or you
can reach us at grow Community on the Facebook and Instagram,
and that's groo community dot org on the internet.
Speaker 4 (01:16:45):
All right, sounds good to me, Jack. Look for them
down at the Black Family Reunion, and don't forget they
need all the help they can get. They need mentors,
they need people. You better stop by get some information
on the grow community.
Speaker 3 (01:16:57):
Hey, holadd as, we love y'all. We see out this weekend.
All right, thank you for stopping by. I appreciate it.
All right, five one three seven four nine, twelve thirty.
Let's get Fifth Third Bank over here.
Speaker 4 (01:17:07):
Fifth Third Bank in Cincinnati, and uh, I mean in Avondale.
This is the bank in Avondale. So have they opened
that up yet? What's going on with that? Hey?
Speaker 3 (01:17:18):
We're not open yet.
Speaker 15 (01:17:19):
We will be officially open for business August twenty sixth.
Speaker 3 (01:17:24):
August twenty sixth, And where will you be located.
Speaker 15 (01:17:26):
We are at the Avondale Town Center, right between Zola's
and our favorite cereal bar.
Speaker 3 (01:17:32):

Speaker 3 (01:18:08):
Absolutely.
Speaker 15 (01:18:09):
So this is a next generation banking center, which means
we have the open floor plan concept. We have a
little bit over two thousand square feet. We have a
tech center, library, you know, our transaction bar. But it's
a really really good flow for the community. We are
really community centered, so it's gonna be a blast.

Speaker 4 (01:19:06):
Bye, guys, All right, thank you for stopping by. All right,
five one, three, seven, nine, twelve thirty. Let's get Curtis
Fuller over here. Curtis Fuller, come on over here. Hall
of Famer, Curtis Fuller, Channel five, Hall of Famer, Curtis
Fuller with the big guys. I mean he's there with
the Paul Dixons and all those people, the Ruth Lions
(01:19:28):
and everybody.
Speaker 3 (01:19:29):
Curtis Fuller, what's going.
Speaker 16 (01:19:31):
On, Oh Lincoln, it is a wonderful day. Last night
we were out at Corinthian Bernice King. I had the
honor really of having a chat with her on stage.
It was wonderful. We were I thought it was going
to be maybe a half hour. We were there for
about an hour. She just really poured out her her
(01:19:52):
feelings on the questions I asked, and then this morning
was just wonderful. It's you know, fortunately we had great weather.
We're kicking off. It's hard to believe. I mean, you
and I remember when it all started nineteen eighty nine,
and so it's number one. It's just good that it's continuing,
(01:20:13):
even in the midst of challenges that we face in
the city. I think we showed that we can still
come together as a city and work together.
Speaker 3 (01:20:26):
Sounds good to me.
Speaker 4 (01:20:27):
It seems like you're well rested now since you've retired,
and you know they got your replacement on Saturdays and
Sundays now.
Speaker 16 (01:20:37):
Yeah, you know.
Speaker 5 (01:20:37):
I have not met him.
Speaker 16 (01:20:39):
It's just the way I'm in and out of the station.
I have not met him, but I've watched and I
think he's doing a good job. And from what I hear,
he's been trying to get out and mingle in the community.
This Hopefully this weekend he will get out to the reunion.
Hopefully he's contacted you. Has he been on your show yet?
Speaker 3 (01:20:59):
Not yet. I got to get him in there for sure.
Speaker 16 (01:21:01):
Yeah, but he seems like a great young man. I
hope that he can settle in here in Cincinnati. It's tough,
you know, when you follow in the footsteps of someone.
I've been here a long time. People know me, and
so that's that's difficult. But I would tell him that
(01:21:21):
just look beyond that, that that's gonna happen. When I
first came to town, you know, it happened to me. You know,
people were talking about other people who had been here,
and I said, oh, that's great, you know. So but
he's doing a good job from what I've seen.
Speaker 4 (01:21:37):
Yeah, he seems like he knows the business. And uh,
you know, he hit the ground running. He wasn't nervous
or anything. It was just like he's been there for
a while. So when they do that, you know there's
some there's some good hope there. You know they're gonna
do all right.
Speaker 16 (01:21:49):
Yeah, absolutely absolutely, And you know they have a good
team over there. The changing faces obviously, but I've told
I've told them that they have a good team.
Speaker 5 (01:22:01):
You know.
Speaker 16 (01:22:02):
Fortunately, our main anchors have been pretty stable. Mike and Shari. Well,
they can't break up.
Speaker 4 (01:22:09):
Right right, They're stuck together. They enjoying together. Yeah, you't
married and on the TV.
Speaker 16 (01:22:16):
They better not break up, and then you know, Ashley
and Chris, they're doing a great job. And then Lindsay,
fortunately I had a chance to work with her a while.
And then the morning team they're doing great stuff.
Speaker 5 (01:22:30):
So it's all good.
Speaker 4 (01:22:31):
Yet at Lindsay start, I think she's dating the Cincinnati
Ridgs picture.
Speaker 16 (01:22:34):
I believe, I think so, I'm scrolling and then I
see her at this fancy event, walking on the red carpet.
Speaker 4 (01:22:42):
With with Lodolo, one of those guys. I can't remember
which one it was.
Speaker 16 (01:22:46):
I can't remember which one, but you know.
Speaker 5 (01:22:50):
I thought I felt out of the loop.
Speaker 16 (01:22:54):
But she she is. She's a great gal and so fun.
Speaker 5 (01:22:58):
We kid each other.
Speaker 16 (01:23:00):
If she was listening to this, she might text me now.
But no, she's a great gal and I'm happy for
I really am happy for.
Speaker 5 (01:23:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:23:09):
All right, Well, you know I've been honored here at
the BFR Lounge.
Speaker 3 (01:23:12):
You've been honored here.
Speaker 4 (01:23:13):
It's a great honor to be honored at the BFR Lounge.
Speaker 16 (01:23:16):
Yeah, and you know, let me tell you a little
bit about Jackie. I have known Jackie for the entire
time I've been here. She and her husband used to
have a catering business called Cuisine catering. And when Frank
Allison would have the NAACP Freedom Fund dinner, he took
(01:23:39):
it out of hotels because he said, well, wait a second,
I want to bring in my own cater and back
then you couldn't.
Speaker 5 (01:23:46):
I probably you still can't.
Speaker 16 (01:23:47):
And so he called on them, and I mean, we
have just been friends the entire time, and you know,
she lost her dad and her her husband back to back,
and so I remember, and I don't think she would
mind me saying this. She was a new mom. Suspencer
(01:24:11):
Spence two, as she calls.
Speaker 3 (01:24:13):
Him, he's in college now, he's out of college.
Speaker 16 (01:24:16):
Out of college, out of college, and taller than both
of us. But she did an amazing job with him.
She would probably say there were she had a lot
of people, family and friends helping encourage him along the way.
Speaker 5 (01:24:30):
But she did an amazing job with him.
Speaker 16 (01:24:32):
And she's just she's one of those people. I've always said,
you need folks like that in your life. They don't
have to be family, blood or blood family, but you
know people who are like family as close as family.
Speaker 5 (01:24:49):
And that's how I consider Jackie.
Speaker 4 (01:24:51):
All Right, Curtis Buller, always great to see you. You're
the man about town and say that's a rap.
Speaker 3 (01:24:58):
Right, Well you get that.
Speaker 4 (01:24:59):
You see the new you see where that news is
coming up.
Speaker 3 (01:25:02):
You know how that is.
Speaker 5 (01:25:03):
I do, I do.
Speaker 3 (01:25:05):
But it's great to see you out and about.
Speaker 16 (01:25:07):
I have the congratulations to you on the Marconi.
Speaker 5 (01:25:12):
Well deserved.
Speaker 3 (01:25:13):
Well, like you been nominated before.
Speaker 4 (01:25:16):
You know, I keep my fingers crossed, and you know
a lot of times you're nominated, but you never take
that next step to get that pride.
Speaker 16 (01:25:23):
Yeah, well, as soon as you receive it, it's due. Now,
please give me a call and let me know, because
this is well deserved. I mean I've said it before, Lincoln.
I mean, what you're doing will never be done again
in this city.
Speaker 3 (01:25:36):
It's same with you' same with you.
Speaker 5 (01:25:38):
Well, maybe we're both blessed.
Speaker 3 (01:25:43):
All right, Curtis is always great to see you.

all all of the above.
Speaker 3 (01:25:52):
Curtis Buller, Yeah, there he is. He is the man.
Speaker 4 (01:25:54):
All right, We've got news coming up and then we'll
come back and I promise you we'll get to the
phones on the other side of the news and talk
to some more people.
Speaker 1 (01:26:02):
Here.
Speaker 4 (01:26:03):
We got step fine, we got brother Powell and uh boy,
how many times will brother Powell say.
Speaker 3 (01:26:07):
Lincoln, where is the key?
Speaker 4 (01:26:09):

minute that he's on the air.
Speaker 3 (01:26:14):
