Though he struggles with anger when provoked, he repents and consistently works toward temperance. Nicholas is pious and devout, exemplified through his prayers, study, and Eucharistic love. He is hopeful and courageous even in the face of imprisonment.
This series contains moments of danger and intensity, including raised voices. It portrays a man slapped in anger during a theological dispute, childhood bullying, a deadly plague, imprisonment, starvation, and torture. The martyrdom and suffering of Christians during this time is depicted with restraint, but not softened.
