Takee was lucky enough to sit down with the one and only Rod Coote, to discuss all things to do with his music and creative journey thus far.
Rod Coote is an Australian singer-songwriter offering a breath of fresh air to the indie-folk scene with his modern blend of acoustic instrumentation and sincere, heartfelt songwriting. Based in Melbourne but originally from a small countryside town in New South Wales, Rod grew up surrounded by mountains and rivers, and those landscapes shaped his sound from the very beginning.
Influenced by artists like Ben Howard, Bon Iver, and Hollow Coves, he built his career from the ground up through busking, releasing music, and touring across Australia, Europe, and the UK. Over the years, Rod has shared stages with the likes of Ziggy Alberts, The Dreggs, Kim Churchill, Morgan Evans, Steph Strings, Mark Wilkinson, Winterbourne, and Kyle Lionhart.
He’s released three acclaimed EPs — The Leap, Where Rivers Meet the Sea, and New England — working with producers such as Garrett Kato, Tim Hart from Boy & Bear, and Jackson Barclay. His latest project, Half Moon Bay, produced by Hayden Calnin, came out in May, and he’s gearing up for the release of his brand-new single If You Only Knew this Friday, October 3rd, as part of his next EP set to drop in early 2026.
