Speaker 1 (00:04):
Hello and welcome back to the tennis game.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
On year end, number one still up for grabs after
Alcarez was stunned in Paris. When we all Mamma Mia,
can Belinda bench break back into the top ten. Now
that cheese a mum and trick or treat the Aussies
knock knock knocking on that door for main draw spots
at AO twenty twenty six. All that more ahead with
me Xavi and Muhleerbark alongside me as always, the lovely
Breece Stewart.
Speaker 3 (00:27):
Hi heio and good thank you look good at green?
Speaker 4 (00:30):
Thank you? No, no, I like green good good. It's
a sack dress. I'm calling it. Oh that's is that
not nice? No, that's fine. Cool across the table, sack
sounds good.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
It's inexpensive sack.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
Now over the desk it's one point Slam media ambassador
and all round nice person.
Speaker 1 (00:48):
Jamie Fallles's welcome.
Speaker 5 (00:49):
I thinks I'm back. Yeah, it was really cool morning.
I went to the AO one point Slam launch which
was at Port Melbourne Tennis Club, so that was really exciting, awesome.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
Well we do want to hear all about that, And now,
ladies and gentlemen, the twenty twenty five Graham Charlton Legend
of Sport himself Luke Saville.
Speaker 6 (01:06):
Yeah, guys, thank you. Yeah, what what's that? Got the
call this week? And yeah, I'm from a little region
called the Riverland in South Australia and every year they
have a legend of the year and after I've retired,
I got the call up for that. So it's quite fluttering.
Quite yeah, a small.
Speaker 2 (01:26):
Region, Like how many times have you received it?
Speaker 1 (01:28):
Is it just you and another person?
Speaker 4 (01:30):
It's small, small, but this joke yesterday and I was like,
oh god, yeah, we laugh.
Speaker 6 (01:37):
Yeah, there's a few awards there, there's a legend me obviously.
Speaker 1 (01:42):
Well it's nice to know it's official.
Speaker 6 (01:44):
No, it's good. Yeah, in November I'll get inducted. Family
around Dash will come back, so looking forward to it.
Speaker 3 (01:49):
That's great. Yeah, thank you Jamie.
Speaker 4 (01:52):
You had your media ambassador had on tell us a
little bit about the one point Slam.
Speaker 5 (01:56):
Yeah, so really cool. So you can register from tomorrow,
so you can register to become a host of the
one point Slam. So at a club or a school
they can put on a draw for a one point
Slam and anyone can compete, no matter if you're an
amateur or haven't picked up a tennis tracker before, and
you pretty much go into the draw, and how it
(02:17):
works is it's pretty much one point. So you start
with paper sciss as rock to decide who serves or receives,
which is actually so much harder than it is.
Speaker 1 (02:24):
Well, do you go on three or after three? Lot
of people have Yeah, so.
Speaker 5 (02:32):
I'll say paper scissors rock, but then some of.
Speaker 6 (02:35):
This today scollop at that time, really for sure?
Speaker 5 (02:39):
Yeah, yeah, but then you get the people that go
paper scissors rock, So then it gets a bit uncomfortable
before you've even started.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
Surely there was some sort of disc or coin that
you could.
Speaker 5 (02:53):
It would be a little bit easier, but no, it's
really cool. So you can choose to serve or steve,
and it's pretty much if you win the point, you
progress the next round, or if you lose the point,
that's your day done and enjoy watching.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
The big pooba that this is all building towards is
at Straight and Open twenty twenty six.
Speaker 5 (03:11):
Yes, so each state will have one winn or territory
will have one winner. Then they will come together and
play off at the Australian Open against a.
Speaker 2 (03:19):
Pro right, so because al Karaz is going to be
in it, So Bob from Brunswick could be playing in
the final with our craze.
Speaker 5 (03:27):
On rla on la, which is the look are you
going to enter?
Speaker 1 (03:32):
Catch mate off?
Speaker 6 (03:33):
Jamie and I were chatting and I thought it'd be
how many clubs are running it on the one day.
Speaker 5 (03:41):
And any club can do it on any day between
a certain period of dates, so you can go enter
at certain at many different.
Speaker 1 (03:48):
Clubs if they run it on out in a week.
Speaker 6 (03:50):
So if I bombed out first round, I could hit
up fifteen clubs in the one day. Yes, probably won't
be the best, look I got to say, but look
us all my door.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
Just think your mortgage because there's a million bucks on
the line.
Speaker 3 (04:05):
There's one million reasons to do this.
Speaker 6 (04:07):
It's a great initiative. Have someone an amateur you know,
gets mill and park plan Rainer. I think it's incredible initiative.
Speaker 4 (04:15):
And ye and more people playing tennis too, Yeah, Australia great.
Speaker 5 (04:20):
And just to be able for US players to give
back to the fans because Australian Open is all about
the fans, so for them to be able to get
insight into how we prepare and play and just to
be is really.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
Cooks and like most people leave the al and go, jeez,
I had a good day, someone's getting I had a
good day and I scored a million bucks.
Speaker 4 (04:35):
Yeah, and I'm even just walking down Champs playing on
Red Labor like we take that for granted.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
Take my mom down there, of you. She loves it.
Speaker 5 (04:44):
And there's also during qualifying week there will be another
draw which you can get your chance to play.
Speaker 1 (04:51):
On our so many chances later there.
Speaker 5 (04:53):
And there's a certain amount of wild cards as well.
Speaker 1 (04:55):
So get on the phone.
Speaker 3 (04:58):
Wow, we'll leave it with you.
Speaker 6 (05:00):
You to just do you serve or receive a lot
of pressure if you're serving. That's the imagine, isn't it
imagine double folding?
Speaker 2 (05:08):
Yeah, well, because you only get one, so no amateurs
get two serves and pros get one one.
Speaker 1 (05:12):
So you what am I you're pro, We'll give you two.
Speaker 2 (05:19):
I've called it now I have no power to do
so all right, Well keep his post on that, Jamie.
I want constant updates and I want to know who's
going to win it in your picks and giggles.
Speaker 1 (05:27):
Don't know what that means never, but.
Speaker 5 (05:29):
Like it will do. And I think over the next
couple of months they'll be announcing who the other pros
are as well.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
I have a feeling it's gonna be some pretty big names.
Now good stuff, Well, thank you much. I think we
should jump straight into what has caught your eye and Bri,
we're gonna kick it off with you names in orange
on my rundown orange skin and your skin and your mum.
Speaker 4 (05:53):
Anyway, that was a fake tan joke for anyone who
isn't watching, but.
Speaker 3 (05:58):
I want to talk about that.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
What are you talking about?
Speaker 3 (06:01):
A nicksitter?
Speaker 4 (06:02):
Is now a chance to overtake ours for year end
number one because Carlos Alcarez was defeated by cam Norri
in Paris and was his first loss before a final
since March. Wow, biggest win of Norri's career and his
first victory over world number one.
Speaker 6 (06:20):
I mean, the seventeen match winning streak is quite extraordinary.
Speaker 2 (06:23):
Really.
Speaker 6 (06:24):
I just find it interesting back end of the year,
some of the upsets that you start seeing and long
year long season, and I think that's what the top guys.
Speaker 7 (06:33):
Do so well.
Speaker 6 (06:33):
They manage their bodies, their minds, the mental side so
well and keep themselves fresh. But even still, I think
there's upsets this week in Paris, and I think Tarim
will be very interesting as well. Obviously such a big
event that one. And we've got our own Alex Debnah
who's going to be featuring there as well. And you know,
he's clocked up three hundred career tour wins, playing so well,
(06:57):
and I think he'd be chomping at the b to
finish the year strong and sort of, yeah, cap off
a great season he's had.
Speaker 2 (07:04):
Yeah, so we're looking at the live rankings here, so
obviously Carlos just ahead of Yannick, but yeah, sticking with demon,
how much movement do you see in this group of
the top ten on the men's side as we get
into the year, Like, is it going to be sort
of just a few little changes here maybe.
Speaker 1 (07:20):
Or could this boardould look very different in a couple
of weeks.
Speaker 6 (07:24):
Yeah, it's quite close, isn't it, Especially six seven, eight
nine there, and you've still got Felix vowing for that
eighth spot and you know, I think he's just under
four hundred points behind Mussetti there, so he's going to
have to probably at least make final I would say
Felix to get that eighth spot, and obviously MUSSETI at
(07:44):
home would be, you know, loving the opportunity to play
there and too in so I don't see too much
movement outside of that possible eight spot at the moment.
Speaker 4 (07:52):
I also wanted to mention I know I'm not supposed
to have two, but I've got two eyes, so I'm
going to go with two.
Speaker 3 (07:57):
What caught my eyes?
Speaker 1 (07:59):
I love it.
Speaker 4 (08:00):
This isn't in the production notes I've got I've gone right, guys.
I wanted to bring up from Secca as well got
in his first one thousand?
Speaker 6 (08:10):
Was it five hundred?
Speaker 3 (08:12):
Five hundred? Winning his first five hundred.
Speaker 4 (08:15):
I know we've spoken a bit about him on the
pod in the recent months, but Luke and Jamie, where
do you see from Seca over this summer?
Speaker 3 (08:23):
Even?
Speaker 4 (08:24):
Like, where do you think he will how do you think.
Speaker 3 (08:27):
He'll go here at the Australian Open. I just want to.
Speaker 5 (08:31):
Ask Luke, like how many top twenty wins has he had,
because I don't think his numbers are as good as
some others. Is that right?
Speaker 6 (08:38):
I think? You know there was a poll going out
start of the year on where people think he'll finish
the year. And you know, in my eyes, I saw
him at Challenges two or three years ago and he
wasn't quite breaking through there. But you saw the game,
you saw the potential, and there's just no surprise whatsoever
to me that he's you know, climb up the ranks
and he's third in the world. Just the weight of
his ball and and I think he got some wild
(09:01):
cards into that South American Swing a few years back
and he wasn't winning, but yeah, it was. It was
quite incredible the ball striking. So I don't know his
record against the top top players. I mean, I think
we forget he's still sort of eighteen nineteen.
Speaker 1 (09:14):
So young. He's got a pretty good runway.
Speaker 2 (09:16):
But you would look at like Jack Draper, I'm always
surprised when he's hovering around in the top ten because
he's a great player, but he's not a consistent performer.
Speaker 6 (09:24):
No, He's had a lot of industry though, so if you.
Speaker 2 (09:27):
Like you look at Seca like it could be a
matter of a few good draws or you know, a
bit of a breakthrown season run word like he could
do something in the next twelve months.
Speaker 6 (09:37):
Man.
Speaker 2 (09:38):
Yeah, And he's true fun guy fung guys.
Speaker 3 (09:43):
Anyway, we can move on there, right, Can we.
Speaker 1 (09:45):
Get back on track now?
Speaker 6 (09:46):
Yes?
Speaker 4 (09:46):
Cool, I just really wanted to touch on one second
like Luke, Yeah, we caught your eye this week.
Speaker 6 (09:53):
What has caught my eye is the Aussie men and
a few of them riddling biceps. Yes as well, Okay,
they're ranking more specifically coming out to the Australian Open.
We have four on the cast just outside top hundred,
and so we've got four of my really good mates
on the cast. Jordan Thompson down twenty nine spots to
(10:17):
one oh three, Chris O'Connell one O four, James Darkworth
won ten and Rinky hit Jakarta one two five. And
for me, these are four guys that are established top
eighty players and have all sort of dealt with injuries
this year, and you know they have the rest of
this week and two more opportunities to make that sort
of top one o two to be saved for the
(10:37):
Australian Open. And you know we've got obviously demon r
Popper and Walton and Vukich already in there. So four
in the top one hundred. A love to touch on
Waltz's Walton's year just an incredible, incredible year for him,
qualifying second round of Indian World's qualifying third round Miami
Semis of Lost Carbos, which is a two point fifty
(10:57):
third round of Cincinnati, beating Medvedev, won a challenger, and
not too surprisingly, played well in North America. You know,
he played college there and a great year, had an
amazing year, And I think the knock on him was
he got a lot of his points at challenges in
the past couple of years and then making that next
step to sort of to a level people wanted to
(11:19):
sort of see if he could back that up. And
he has so incredible job. You know, I think you know,
Jordan Thompson, he needs about forty five to fifty points
six hundred and twenty three points his top one hundred currently,
So Thompson on five eight six, O'Connell five four six, sorry,
Darkworth five five three and rank he a little bit
of work to do it four under and eighty five.
(11:40):
So it'd be good to see maybe at least two
of them push in.
Speaker 2 (11:44):
I mean, he'd imagine if they all get in and
there's like eight Aussies on the men's draw, this place
will be that's pretty cool, just exploding with pride.
Speaker 1 (11:53):
There will be flags everywhere.
Speaker 4 (11:55):
With Jordan, what is he like, what what is he
got planned up ahead that he could make up that
because we know he's had a bad back injury, right,
and I can imagine for a tennis player that's pretty
great bad What does he got up ahead that he
could catch up on some of those points.
Speaker 6 (12:12):
Yeah, I'm not sure if Thompson's going to play these
last couple weeks. I think he just pulled out of
a challenger in the States this week citing a calf injury,
so they can sort of hang around. I'm not sure
if he's going to play anymore. But obviously Thompson hit
Jakarta two great doubles players as well, and yeah, I
think managing the singles and doubles can sometimes be a
(12:32):
little bit difficult as well. Obviously, Rinky has won a
slam in a final Wimbledon. Jordan just a fantastic set
for Us in Davis Cup in singles and doubles. So,
as I said, all four of these guys battled injuries
this year in my eyes, top one hundred caliber players easily,
and hoping they can get healthy and push back inside
top hundred if it's not in the next couple of weeks,
(12:54):
hopefully early next year.
Speaker 2 (12:55):
So do you think any of those who's got the
best chance to kind of potentially go deep in a
twenty six if they got into the straight direct entry.
Speaker 5 (13:04):
That's a good question.
Speaker 6 (13:05):
Now you put him on the spot. All of them,
all of them can? I mean, I just I come
back to Jordan and his last few years, and you know,
I've said it quite a bit. You know, he was
around seventy eighty for quite a few years and tweaked
a few things in his game style. Marinko Matossovich helping
him out, and all of a sudden he's a top
forty player just by playing a little more aggressive, I think.
Speaker 8 (13:25):
So.
Speaker 6 (13:25):
I think Jordan, if he can get healthy, I think
he can have a real cracker at the Aussie summer.
Speaker 5 (13:31):
I feel like they all thrive playing at AO because
some people just don't play well with the conditions. But
I feel like all of them can play quite well here, right.
Speaker 6 (13:39):
Yeah, not for sure? All the had great runs here.
Speaker 2 (13:41):
Nice bit of dry Melbourne heat. Well, Jamie, let's jump
over to you. What caught your eye? Speaking of big
movers for something happening on the WTA side.
Speaker 5 (13:48):
Yeah, I'm going to stick with the ranking situation and
I'm going to go Belinda Benchicch has had an incredible
year since giving birth to her daughter, Bella. Started the
year with the ranking of four to twenty one and
is currently eleven in the world, which has been wow.
Speaker 4 (14:03):
And she came back in January. Was that when she
came back. Did she come back at United Cup?
Speaker 1 (14:08):
Yes?
Speaker 5 (14:08):
United Cup was a tournament this year.
Speaker 3 (14:11):
Last the year before.
Speaker 8 (14:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (14:13):
Yeah, well technically can say last year.
Speaker 1 (14:16):
Because it's still it started it on the.
Speaker 3 (14:18):
Twenty start of the year twenty six.
Speaker 5 (14:22):
So yeah. She had an incredible run last week winning
the WTA title in Tokyo, defeating Noscova six two six
three in the final. And she's had an incredible year
and it's been really nice to see her.
Speaker 1 (14:34):
She does well in Tokyo. Sheok got the Olympic gold
yeaho in Tokyo as well at the twenty twenty it
was actually in twenty twenty one.
Speaker 5 (14:41):
Yeah, And just for her to be able to share
that with her family, I know they travel with her
full time and kind of watching her daughter grow up
is kind of really cool and actually made me think
of Dash because I know there's.
Speaker 3 (14:51):
A let tennis baby.
Speaker 5 (14:54):
There's a list of so many women that have had
babies throughout the year and have just done incredibly well.
Speaker 3 (15:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (15:00):
It creates a pathway for also us women to be
able to go have children and then be able to
come back on the tour and still do what we
want to do. So but she's on the verge of
breaking top ten.
Speaker 3 (15:11):
She's so good.
Speaker 6 (15:12):
From twenty one to eleven in a year, is that's
a base.
Speaker 5 (15:17):
It's incredible. And the amount of tennis that she's played
this year and consistently beating you know, top twenty players,
top ten players.
Speaker 1 (15:25):
It's one to watch in January, that's for sure.
Speaker 8 (15:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (15:28):
Really, I think she's well and truly back and it's
just proving not people wrong, but just proving that women
can do anything.
Speaker 3 (15:35):
Really.
Speaker 6 (15:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (15:36):
Power, Yeah, girl power? Save shall we?
Speaker 6 (15:42):
So?
Speaker 1 (15:42):
I just throwing my fist in the air and solidarity.
Speaker 3 (15:44):
Thank you? You're an ally. Damn right, we'll move over
to you save. Tell me what caught your aree? You've
got a bit of a random way like what I
would normally do.
Speaker 2 (15:53):
Weird, wonderful, wacky tennis time in tennis. So it was
snooping around the ATP website as we normally do, see
what's on Tuesday Tuesday this week, And actually one of
your team pointed something quite strange. It did Fritz, Demona,
and Muzzetti all of their head shots were replaced by puppets.
(16:14):
They were not like an AI generated Oh this will
be funny, but an actual, a real sesame street muppet
show style puppet.
Speaker 1 (16:23):
Got a couple of shots here.
Speaker 2 (16:25):
So for those not playing video at home and just
in their car, you've got Fritz with his trademark upside
down boss headband on his puppet.
Speaker 1 (16:33):
You've got Alex doing an amazing pose here with his puppetself.
Speaker 4 (16:38):
Do you love that Alex's puppet has his Demonore Foundation
badge on it.
Speaker 3 (16:43):
Yeah, they've gone all out with the with the sponsors.
Speaker 1 (16:47):
Yeah, it's it's it's interesting.
Speaker 2 (16:49):
And I was researching and googling and going through Instagram
and X and all.
Speaker 4 (16:53):
You did get a spy, Yeah, to find we had to.
Speaker 2 (16:57):
Actually send someone into the midst of Agrippino.
Speaker 3 (16:59):
It did find out before it launched.
Speaker 1 (17:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (17:01):
Yeah, are doing like a fun content series and it's
all We've got a video kind of summing it up
from Alex, let's have a listen, guys, we love this game,
but god knows, we could spend so much more time
training and the right Taylor.
Speaker 7 (17:23):
So I've got a solution.
Speaker 1 (17:25):
Hey, I know, how about that even work?
Speaker 6 (17:28):
I've got an analog solution though.
Speaker 3 (17:34):
So it's so bad it's good.
Speaker 2 (17:36):
Yeah, Like I was, I wanted to hate it, but
I quite Yeah, it's quite is it.
Speaker 6 (17:42):
I Mean it.
Speaker 2 (17:43):
Doesn't help that Alex a solution at the moment. So
he's a great player, but his acting is a little
I think he could work on it. Yeah, he needs
some acting coaching. But maybe his puffeteering is quite good. Maybe,
But I guess the idea of the thing is that
these players being sent out to do media ops like
you did today, but without having to send the real person.
(18:04):
So we should probably make you a puppet, right, Yeah,
then you can just stay at home and just literally
phone it in.
Speaker 4 (18:10):
I'm not sure whether I love this content series yet
or whether I hate it. We were kind of having
that conversation this morning.
Speaker 1 (18:16):
I wasn't sure, do I hate it or kind of
like it?
Speaker 5 (18:18):
Maybeah, what's the purpose of it?
Speaker 1 (18:20):
You're asking the right question, it's.
Speaker 4 (18:21):
To raise the profiles of Alex Mercetti and Fritz interesting way, yes, okay,
but which is great and I kind of like it.
But at the same time, it's pointing out how much
players hate doing media at times because they've got lots on.
So I don't know, like I'm in two months about
whether I love or hate it. Not offense ATP. I
(18:41):
think you do some great work, but we are here.
Speaker 2 (18:44):
Yeah, especially from our side because where this is our
word westing yea access to players.
Speaker 1 (18:49):
If a friggin puppet turned up like i'd be pissed.
Speaker 3 (18:53):
I'd actually be kind of happy. I don't know. But anyway, well, is.
Speaker 5 (18:57):
It just driving traffic towards the ATP website to go
check their ranking?
Speaker 6 (19:01):
Like the puppets? What's the goal?
Speaker 3 (19:03):
Yeah, what's the goal?
Speaker 6 (19:04):
Like the Popper's just I don't know.
Speaker 3 (19:06):
Do you know what I will do.
Speaker 4 (19:07):
I'm going to reach out to my dear friend Kate
at the ATP and ask her and.
Speaker 3 (19:11):
I'll come back to meet with her last night.
Speaker 1 (19:13):
Can you say HI for me, Kate?
Speaker 3 (19:15):
Sorry now I'm talking about Kate the other case.
Speaker 1 (19:17):
Good.
Speaker 4 (19:17):
Yeah, yeah, anyway, I.
Speaker 3 (19:20):
Will find out and report back next.
Speaker 2 (19:21):
Weak Yeah, we'll watch this space. I want to know
more about this puppet shenanigans. But in the meantime got
me thinking, if I was going to cast this panel
as muppets, who would they be?
Speaker 5 (19:34):
Now?
Speaker 2 (19:35):
Luke probably already knows where I'm going with this one,
but we've got to pick a series of pictures.
Speaker 1 (19:39):
Can we bring up? Luke, there's your muppet self. Oh,
it's not bad, Big Bird.
Speaker 2 (19:43):
I love Big Bird, happy blonde, you know, always hanging
around with a quirky small character in Elmo, which is Dasher,
long neck. Yeah, the weirdly one hand never moves because
you're always doing this.
Speaker 1 (19:58):
It's good your big be I think got Jamie. Next,
you're Zoey from Sesame Street.
Speaker 5 (20:04):
You.
Speaker 3 (20:05):
I definitely think she's so sweet and.
Speaker 1 (20:08):
Nice, always happy, always nothing gets her down.
Speaker 4 (20:11):
She's really helpful. I'm really showing that I really like
Sesame Street.
Speaker 6 (20:16):
Nice necklace, that's cute.
Speaker 1 (20:19):
And now I know you were in green, but you're
not going to be Kermit.
Speaker 3 (20:22):
That's ah.
Speaker 2 (20:23):
I went away from Sesame Street and into the O
G Muppet Show. Janeus the lead singer.
Speaker 6 (20:31):
I know, yeah, got the lips, the style, them lashes,
bang on.
Speaker 3 (20:42):
Have you always stitched me up.
Speaker 6 (20:43):
Well, who are you?
Speaker 1 (20:44):
I can't remember. Picked Animal.
Speaker 2 (20:49):
I would of course be Animal, the crazy drummer and
just around fun guy.
Speaker 1 (20:56):
Guess that was my pick. The hosts look look at
Welcome to the tennis.
Speaker 3 (21:04):
Yeah that is cool.
Speaker 1 (21:06):
An animal just having the time of their lives. What
a duo.
Speaker 2 (21:10):
Oh so that's our muppet Shenanigan's for the week. Really
good good times, good times. Now there's a bit of
other news before we go to a break. The WTA
finals in Riad. Yes, your thoughts, Jamie.
Speaker 5 (21:21):
I think it's exciting. I think the lineup is probably
the best. I know that it's always the best eight players,
but this year it's been incredibly hard to differentiate between
who's going to win each slam, each major tournament. So
it's it's exciting.
Speaker 2 (21:38):
And you know sabal Anca who's won many a Grand Slam,
she's not once had a finals crown in her cabinet.
And you've got Coco GoF defending her title. She's currently
ranked three in the world. A lot of cash on offer,
fifteen a half million dollars in prize money, like it
looks pretty impressive, But Brie, how does it all work?
Speaker 1 (21:56):
And talk us through the group, so each.
Speaker 4 (21:57):
Player plays each other player and they grew. So there's
two groups. One group is Steffi Graff group and the
other one is Serena Williams, with each winning, with each
win worth three points. If two players are tied at
the conclusion of the group stage, the head to head
winner advances. If three players are tired, the group winner
is determined by matches, plates, sets one, and games one.
(22:19):
So we've gotten the Steffi Graf group, Sablenca, Coca Golf, Pagoula, Paulini,
and then Insena's group, got IgA, Anisimova, Rebeccna and Keys.
Speaker 1 (22:31):
Wow, that's what tennis needs.
Speaker 6 (22:33):
Maths, I know, I don't understand how it works.
Speaker 5 (22:37):
I just read it's around Robin. I'm pretty sure the
highest player or the person that wins the most matches
will then progress into quarters, semis and then.
Speaker 6 (22:48):
Finals one verse two.
Speaker 3 (22:51):
Right, Okay, Dennis complicates things at times.
Speaker 1 (22:54):
We do like to do.
Speaker 5 (22:55):
Yeah, just make them more fun, make a bit more spicy, exactly.
Speaker 4 (22:58):
But I saw Sabalanka and Paulini doing practice or training
on Instagram, and yeah.
Speaker 5 (23:07):
There's a lot of the girls that are already there
that have arrived.
Speaker 4 (23:09):
Holly, Yeah, it loot and Pauline was hitting the ball
nice from a spectator point of indoors. Yeah, I think
it has to be.
Speaker 6 (23:19):
The court speed medium.
Speaker 5 (23:21):
I think it's medium and a little bit of bounds.
That's what I air concept to hopefully around twenty three.
Speaker 1 (23:26):
Yeah? Is that optimism?
Speaker 8 (23:28):
Is that?
Speaker 5 (23:29):
Is it twenty two?
Speaker 4 (23:30):
I want to sleep nineteen cranky?
Speaker 2 (23:34):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (23:35):
Does that suit anyone? In your eyes?
Speaker 5 (23:37):
I would have gone Eager or a Samova. I think
they're my top two tips for Yeah, WT fine, But
you know what I'm really excited about. Tell us there
was drama last year with a WTA photo shoot. I
think it was last year, so everyone was white besides Eager.
Speaker 3 (23:54):
She will read.
Speaker 5 (23:55):
So I'm excited to see what the photo shoot looks like.
Speaker 6 (23:57):
This.
Speaker 4 (23:58):
We already we were talking about this, Victor and I
because we were like, remember last year, I can't wait
to see this year's game. Someone's gonna be like those
really awkward photos that so uncomfortable.
Speaker 1 (24:12):
I want them all in red. And then he goes.
Speaker 6 (24:18):
Sabalanka on the indoors as well.
Speaker 1 (24:20):
Yeah, I reckon, you know, I mean, I love sab
so I reckon. This is how you based on.
Speaker 6 (24:25):
Nothing and then Rebarkner coming in at the sixth player.
I think she was out before winning that last event, so.
Speaker 5 (24:31):
She's the last couple of weeks she's done, and.
Speaker 6 (24:36):
I mean she's dangerous on indoors as well, so very
interesting to see.
Speaker 1 (24:39):
All right, Well that's all happening in Reard. It's gonna
be very exciting.
Speaker 2 (24:42):
We're gonna have a quick break now and on the
back of that we'll have a little breeze top five
and some scores draws and nowther Shenigans second.
Speaker 1 (24:50):
Welcome at to the tennis.
Speaker 2 (24:52):
Yes, we'll just have a little chat off there about
the upcoming atp finals.
Speaker 1 (24:57):
Luke talks through it.
Speaker 6 (25:01):
So our boy Alex, Yes, he's in sixth position on
three nine hundred and thirty five points, and we have
Mussetti and Casper at eight or nine who have lost
in Paris. So we've got Felix on three one and
ninety five and it looks like he needs to probably
(25:22):
win it, win the title to overtake Mussetti and Casper
to come into eighth position there.
Speaker 2 (25:29):
Yeah, I mean, don't let your puppet play for you
would be my recommendation. Send out the man. But with
the in Turin. So this is the top eight are in?
Is that how works?
Speaker 6 (25:40):
Yep?
Speaker 1 (25:40):
Great? So currently demons in there.
Speaker 2 (25:42):
You've got the usual suspects at the top end, including
Novak still being the goat that he is.
Speaker 1 (25:48):
It's like he's never going to go away.
Speaker 3 (25:50):
Fritz moving up to fourth. It's good, good too.
Speaker 1 (25:53):
He's got his little headband on the right way there.
Speaker 4 (25:55):
He does no puppet there, no puppet. So is Alex safe,
do you reckon?
Speaker 1 (26:00):
Yes?
Speaker 6 (26:01):
Yes, I think he's good and I mean he's still
going as well, so I think he'll He had a
great win against Diallo overnight and he's currently in the
third round, and I think he would he would know
the situation. I think he keeps a close eye on things,
and I think he'll be just He'll be very hungry
to wrap that up. I'd say probably one more win,
(26:23):
it'd be a guarantee. So excited for Alex. I think
last last year in Turin he was quite injured. I
think it was the hip. The hip nigger wasn't greaty.
He played his three matches but wasn't moving his best
and just was basically there make up the numbers. So
he'd be very motivated and keen to try and do
some damage this year.
Speaker 2 (26:44):
Now back to home, give us a little United Cup
update you no, I.
Speaker 3 (26:47):
Love to talk about.
Speaker 4 (26:50):
But today, just today this morning, what are announced Team
Great Britain with Jack Draper and Emma RADICANU.
Speaker 8 (26:58):
You love.
Speaker 3 (27:00):
I do.
Speaker 4 (27:02):
And then also Team Australia with Alex Demenor and Maya Joint.
Oh that's awesome, yeah, Mayra and fire. Yeah yeah, so
they join Team Poilant.
Speaker 1 (27:14):
They dip Portland, they joined.
Speaker 4 (27:25):
They joined Team Poland which is Eager and Hubbie her catch.
Speaker 6 (27:30):
Yeah that's all back.
Speaker 4 (27:31):
Yeah yeah, so second to eleventh of January twenty twenty sixth.
Speaker 3 (27:36):
Yeah, if that's that's just the beginning.
Speaker 2 (27:38):
So do we can you give us any insight into
any others that might be in the mix. Come give
the listeners an exclusive.
Speaker 4 (27:46):
No, okay no, but you know we hope to have
the top men and women in the rankings based on countries.
So if you look at the rankings, you can see
we're focusing for I just look at pup.
Speaker 3 (28:00):
Yeah fair.
Speaker 5 (28:01):
When does it come out where each team has been?
Speaker 1 (28:03):
When's the draw?
Speaker 3 (28:04):
November seventeenth is the draw, So keep your eyes.
Speaker 1 (28:08):
Planning your travel you're going to be in a team
IZI Groupie.
Speaker 5 (28:10):
No, I'll be on the desk so if they need
I'll be there.
Speaker 4 (28:15):
Joining the house at United Cupper pay trip Yeah yeah.
Speaker 5 (28:21):
Yeah, yeah, I'm going to try. I'm going to be
on the desk, so if you need a restring, come
to me. If people get it wrong, it's not my fault.
Speaker 2 (28:29):
That's it's clever having players doing that role though, because
actually you're talking.
Speaker 4 (28:32):
About Yeah, Luke, where will you be spending Australian summer.
Speaker 6 (28:35):
Philip, I will be not in the Philippines.
Speaker 1 (28:38):
That's rare. You've been there like eight times.
Speaker 6 (28:40):
Yes, it is the second home at the moment. I'll
be the United Cup as well. Actually yeah, so you're
one of Jamie Stringers. Yes, yes, I'm doing some physio
there as well. Great nice eating or actually I'm I'll
be where Australia is, so either Perth or Sydney. Alex
will be running another camp Alex so the new inductees
(29:01):
will be there. I think we'll get there probably a
few days before, watch him prepare and then maybe stay
for a match or two.
Speaker 2 (29:08):
Amazing, so looking forward to it. So, speaking of my
joint Hong Kong, is a two fifty over there and
she's still kicking around with someone called Victoria.
Speaker 5 (29:15):
Yes, she defeated Victoria M sixty one sixty four and
could play benchic in the semi finals. She's again had
an incredible year and continues to impress us. Saul and
I think we have a couple of Aussi's also in
India at the moment, Kim and Storm as well.
Speaker 1 (29:30):
Another friend of the god.
Speaker 4 (29:31):
Yeah so and Storm won her first round match she did.
Speaker 5 (29:34):
Yeah, So the singles comeback is definitely on, which is
awesome to see.
Speaker 2 (29:39):
And good luck to you Maya if you're listening, I
know you are over there in Hong Kong. You're going
to absolutely smash it at the Hong Kong two to fifty. So,
speaking of numbers, from two fifties, five hundreds, one thousands,
let's wheel it down to five. It is, of course
time for Breeze Spooky Top five.
Speaker 4 (29:54):
Why is it speaking because it's just it's pistos Halloween
paranorl oh, because it's Halloween.
Speaker 1 (30:00):
Thank you, I've got new buttons.
Speaker 3 (30:05):
So I'm going to talk about five.
Speaker 4 (30:09):
Paranormal kind of or just bizarre situations that have happened Oh,
that's good.
Speaker 1 (30:16):
This is creepy.
Speaker 3 (30:18):
So we're going to start with I know it's fun.
Speaker 1 (30:22):
I'm having fun. So you're ready for numbers?
Speaker 3 (30:25):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (30:26):
Wrong, one, five, Okay.
Speaker 4 (30:29):
So this one is not really spooky, but it's a
wrong sized court. An embarrassed groundskeeper of the two thousand
and two Abortion rom Championships mistakenly set the dimensions of
the stadium court to be eighteen feet from the net
to the service line instead of twenty one feet. The
mistake was discovered after two players served a total of twenty.
Speaker 3 (30:48):
Nine double faults.
Speaker 4 (30:51):
So I know that isn't that scary, but I had
trouble fun, I mean paranormal.
Speaker 1 (30:56):
That groundskeeper, he was sitting himself.
Speaker 3 (30:58):
He might be dead.
Speaker 1 (30:59):
Yeah, and he's six food under.
Speaker 3 (31:01):
It's quite interesting, quite funny. You're getting that wrongway. We
can move to four.
Speaker 4 (31:07):
Four. So ghost of murder haunts tennis court. So in
February seventh. On February seventh, nineteen eleven, this year, it
was reported in the Hawaiian Gazette that there had been
a murderer who had obviously killed someone and yeah at
this tennis club in Hawaii, And it is reported that
(31:31):
the ghost of the murderer still haunts the tennis club.
Speaker 2 (31:34):
Wow, so killed someone there and then he died and
then now he's still there lingering.
Speaker 3 (31:39):
Yeah, haunting.
Speaker 6 (31:41):
Yeah close my birthday scary.
Speaker 3 (31:44):
Yeah, nineteen eleven. You're looking good.
Speaker 6 (31:50):
Three, So you.
Speaker 4 (31:52):
Guys can let me know if this is right. Some
players at the French Open claimed to have heard faint
whispers during critical moments, which some attribute to past champions.
Speaker 6 (32:04):
I think that's just my clay court demons in that
I'm hearing.
Speaker 1 (32:09):
I haven't heard that one.
Speaker 4 (32:11):
Yeah, I don't know that either. Well, the guys asked
me if I could fact check this talk to my
ghost friends.
Speaker 2 (32:17):
Yeah. I was like, I basically said to Herbert, are
you asking if ghosts are real?
Speaker 1 (32:20):
Because I'm not qualified to work that.
Speaker 2 (32:23):
Like, how do you fact check a ghost story too?
Speaker 4 (32:27):
There's a visual for this, two guys, just of our friend.
So Luke, this is this is actually playing on trophy.
An old school player. So his name was Willoughby Hamilton.
He was Irish and he was an international footballer, cricketer
and the number one tennis player in the world in
eighteen ninety mind you, and he had three of failed
(32:49):
attempts to win Wimbledon and then it killed him at
twenty five. No, he won, Oh he actually won, but
he won and then literally went missing, like you's never
heard of again, never seen obviously it's the eighteen hundreds,
so there wasn't any Instagram to check on what he's
up to.
Speaker 1 (33:08):
No chat maps, but does have only find mine.
Speaker 4 (33:13):
Yeah, but he was called the ghost because it was
very power complexion. I'm assuming it's a redhead being Irish.
But it was reported he died in nineteen forty three
at the age of seventy eight. So even though he
like went missing, there was public record that he died,
but no one knows what happened.
Speaker 3 (33:30):
He won Wimbledon and then disappeared.
Speaker 6 (33:32):
Right, and then he came back just to die.
Speaker 3 (33:35):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, spooky.
Speaker 1 (33:39):
Was that number one?
Speaker 6 (33:40):
Though?
Speaker 2 (33:40):
That was two?
Speaker 3 (33:41):
No, the number one.
Speaker 1 (33:42):
I'm ready ready one.
Speaker 3 (33:45):
This one's also been fact checked by God.
Speaker 4 (33:49):
No, I was talking to the other side the ghost
at Wimbledon, So Wimbledon's ghost. It's a legend that people
see a lady in white on court eighteen.
Speaker 2 (33:58):
I actually see a lot of ladies, Yeah, all of them,
because it's the dress code.
Speaker 4 (34:04):
Oh, maybe they should be fact checked. No, but they
have reported of ghostly sightings. So players are reported seeing
a lady in white around the player's box, the Royal Box.
They've heard whispers as well in that same area. The
sightings and sounds are said to occur primarily during late
evening matches.
Speaker 2 (34:24):
So it's smashing pims all day.
Speaker 4 (34:28):
And the speculation the spirit's identity includes a ghost of
a tennis enthusiasts from a past era.
Speaker 3 (34:36):
Or a former player wanting one last game happy Halloween.
To become dressed up.
Speaker 4 (34:47):
But then I have decided there is nothing scarier than
a girl single in a forty.
Speaker 9 (34:52):
I know, so I'm in costume already. Guys, you're everywhere.
Well that was wh ride before we leave. I mean
that top five is quickly becoming my Ace of the week.
But let's do a quick ace of the week around
the table. Take us all home, Bri, I'm going to
start with you. What's the race of the week.
Speaker 3 (35:11):
I am going to Oasis Yeah night, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (35:14):
That's awesome.
Speaker 2 (35:16):
Oh you're going to get some story morning glory. I
hear it's one of those concerts.
Speaker 6 (35:22):
Do you know what?
Speaker 4 (35:22):
My friend I'm known to sing the wrong lyrics and
things because my friend said, could you please make sure
you've got the right lyrics ready for Oasis?
Speaker 1 (35:31):
They will be super fan.
Speaker 6 (35:32):
It's part of my charm that I.
Speaker 3 (35:33):
Don't sing the right way.
Speaker 5 (35:34):
Do you record and sing at the same time?
Speaker 2 (35:36):
Oh god? Okay, well make sure you put on your
stories times up?
Speaker 1 (35:42):
Yeah, well done?
Speaker 6 (35:42):
Friday or Saturday Friday?
Speaker 1 (35:45):
Are you going? What's your ace of the week?
Speaker 6 (35:48):
Tell me my ace of the week. I'm going to
give my wife a shout out. Daria the stunt woman. Yes,
and cleaner one day and something round or another. But
she's half twenty weeks doing really well. I'm super proud
of her. Starting to show a little bit, but she's
(36:10):
doing well, handled it really well.
Speaker 2 (36:12):
So yeah, she does look great. She looks like a
not in a rope. Yeah, what does that mean?
Speaker 1 (36:19):
She's just a little bump.
Speaker 4 (36:21):
Well I could see the bump last time she was
here last week, you know what I mean?
Speaker 6 (36:27):
I was great.
Speaker 3 (36:28):
She hasn't been.
Speaker 1 (36:29):
Yeah she is.
Speaker 3 (36:30):
How exciting are you both?
Speaker 1 (36:31):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (36:32):
In March here before we know it, starting to you know,
order me around the house a little bit rightly so
than usual, by the way, right, So that's your job upstairs,
off your go down.
Speaker 5 (36:43):
But have you started the baby room a little.
Speaker 6 (36:46):
Bit a little bit, but she's doing well and proud
of her and looking forward to its very exciting.
Speaker 2 (36:51):
That's a good top five. Yeah, keep five. It's the week. Yes,
keep us posted, Jamie. What about yourself? More baby news?
Speaker 1 (36:58):
Well she got too got you can have to get
too Countdowns.
Speaker 5 (37:03):
Friday Night Live. Yes, Mariah Carey Pitbull people so good
Mariah Carey. I thought at one point you needed to
do a welfare check on her.
Speaker 3 (37:14):
Possible agreed.
Speaker 4 (37:17):
She performed lazily, said lazy like. She actually couldn't physically
like move like. It was borderline like do just some
want to check She's okay, but Pitbull was unbelievable.
Speaker 2 (37:27):
Yeah, can't give a good pity down, poor Mariah. And
just before her time to shine Christmas, she.
Speaker 5 (37:33):
Did sing Christian Yeah, which was really cool.
Speaker 1 (37:36):
I was about to try that it's but I can't
get up there, but she.
Speaker 5 (37:40):
Didn't sing that for Brisbane and Sydney.
Speaker 1 (37:42):
Just very special. Now, what's your other one?
Speaker 5 (37:46):
I got ja on Tuesday two weeks just on holiday.
Speaker 2 (37:51):
I love Japan, Yes, I go just for the food
for some ramon It's so good.
Speaker 5 (37:59):
Just Tokyo and soccer.
Speaker 6 (38:02):
Oh my god, with the train.
Speaker 1 (38:04):
Yeah, book that.
Speaker 5 (38:06):
We've pretty much booked everything, so I have.
Speaker 1 (38:09):
A great time, lots of photos.
Speaker 3 (38:10):
Please be going with your family.
Speaker 5 (38:12):
Yeah, with my sister and one of my cousins.
Speaker 6 (38:14):
So perfect.
Speaker 1 (38:15):
Now we'll have a great trip and flight.
Speaker 2 (38:17):
I do love flying you me once again, I've forgotten
to have one because I mean it hasn't been great.
I missed my train this week. You've got your laptop,
my laptop at home. White Card had to get working
on his mobile phone, went straight into a meeting. I
had to present the slides from my phone. So I
think just trying to keep just.
Speaker 1 (38:39):
Keep that an upbeat attitude. My ace of the week.
Speaker 3 (38:42):
Is tomorrow's Friday four day weekend?
Speaker 1 (38:44):
Holy ship?
Speaker 6 (38:45):
How did I forget ye week?
Speaker 1 (38:49):
At Melbourne on Tuesday?
Speaker 2 (38:50):
And I had my whole team, including myself and anyone
else who wants to take Monday off.
Speaker 3 (38:56):
I came to know all of them will just choice.
Speaker 1 (39:01):
Ah yeah, I mean they're busy, but you know, yeah,
so that's me.
Speaker 2 (39:05):
That's you guys. What a great show was it? You
tell us you can decide at home or in your
car whether it was good or not.
Speaker 1 (39:11):
I'm on the fence.
Speaker 2 (39:13):
Luke, you were the best thing about the show along
with Jamie, so thank you both for being here once again.
Speaker 1 (39:19):
Free you were equally great.
