Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the Tim Power Show on your VOCM.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
The views and opinions of this program were not necessarily
those of this station.

Speaker 1 (00:09):
Here's Tim. Hello everybody, It's Halloween Friday, October thirty first.
Good to be with you today. I'm sure many of
you are making your way home to start the Tricker Treating.
It's a fun day. I know. I woke had a boy,
my son, wake up this morning full of energy and excitement,
went to school with his costume on. He's pumped to

(00:32):
go tricker treating. We were so excited this morning. We
even hauled out the inflatable clown. Yep, you've probably seen those.
My mother thinks they're gaudy, awful things. She's not entirely wrong,
mind you. Our inflatable count I think clown. I think
he's about eight feet tall. We had to get him
out for a dry run this morning because it's pouring here,

(00:52):
and had him out six thirty in the morning. Pitch
Black lit the thing up. The two cats in the
house they got spooked and shot off. God only knows
what's gonna happen tonight. But the inflatable clowns ready to go.
So are the rest of the treats, and throughout the show,
we've got some treats, no tricks, but lots of treats
for you, including at the end of the program, Dale Jarvis,

(01:14):
who's gonna join us and Dale is hosting yet again
the Haunted Hotline tonight with Claudett, and he'll tell us
what's on the program and what surprises he may have
in Stow. I'm not sure it's gonna give them all
the way. It's also got to be Halloween, because this
is definitely a trick. I don't know if you heard
this story this morning, but six seven, Oh god, yeah, sorry,

(01:38):
I did it to you. Six seven, not sixty seven.
But the phrase six seven, apparently it's a word, actually
named word of the Year by dictionary dot Com. Now,
if anybody over the age of forty has thought I
have lost the plot and I'm calling this a word,
you're not wrong. I've lost the plot before. Indeed, that
is true. But six seven. Talk to anybody under the

(02:00):
age of forty. They all know about this six' seventh.
Phenomena now dictionary dot com has named six seven On
halloween not a, trick AND i don't know if it's a.
Treat the word of the. Year so just a little
background on six, seven and then we'll get into the.
Show six seven is also written as the number six

(02:23):
and the number, seven or the word six and seven it.
Describes dictionary Dot com describes it as classic brain rot. Slang,
now if you don't know what brain rod, is you
gotta go a little. Lower talk to those under. Twenty
they'll tell you all about brain. ROT i have to
listen to. It, actually my phone case is tongue kung kung,

(02:43):
sohor which is all about brain rod, anyway perfectly nonsensical
and all about being in on the. Absurdity that's six.
Seven what it means could be so so or maybe
this or maybe. That this is How i'm gonna speak
To Greg smith from now, On greg seven six, Seven
and if two kids show up tonight at your door

(03:05):
with a six and the seven and your, bewildered now you.
Know now you know we've done you a public. Service

(04:10):

championship she broke her, foot but she was a first

summer of, course she was a captain Of Canada under
twenty rugby. Team she'll be back on the field. Soon
really really proud of her And Kennedy, stevenson my niece's,
teammate her mom is A newfoundlander And labrador and her

(04:34):

proud to see these women getting recognized as they should. Be,

(04:54):
we got on the. Show, well in a couple of,
minutes we're going to talk to Doctor Jared, Butler president
Of Hockey new And land The, labrador about that AWESOME
u eighteen women's hockey tournament that's starting In Mount pearl
AND cbs on is it tomorrow Or? Sunday let me
See sunday, morning which is great speaking of female. Athletes
you're going to see Future olympians. There we'll talk to

(05:15):
Doctor butler about. That at four thirty we're going to
talk to talk about a real neat thing that's happening
a work place. Assembly it's called The National assembly Of Workplace.
Democracy we're going to have Doctor Rafael gomez on to
tell us about. That at four forty we're going to

(05:38):
go To toronto talk To crosby McWilliam at Our Sister sasan
P New country ninety three point five to talk about
The Blue jays and the hype, there and then of
Course Dale. Jarvis but let's start with something a little,
substantive because we can't forget about that earlier today at

(05:59):
The Prime minister met With chinese. President here is a
clip of The Prime minister after that. Meeting then we'll
have a little talk about. It Here's Prime Minister.

Speaker 3 (06:10):
Carty this meeting today is long. Overdue it has been
eight years since A Canadian prime minister has met with
The president Of. China we now have a turning point
in the, relationship a turning point that creates opportunities For canadian,

(06:35):
families For canadian businesses And canadian, workers and also creates
a path to address current. Issues so very pleased with
the outcome of the, meeting our officials are instructed to
work at pace on issues moving.

Speaker 4 (06:51):
Forward A China Prime, minister you alluded to an, invitation.

Speaker 3 (06:57):
The invitation and has been, extended AND i indicated THAT
i look forward to accepting that.

Speaker 5 (07:03):
Invitation YET.

Speaker 1 (07:08):
I faded off, there and that's important because here A
newfoundland To, labrador and we talked to the premier about this.
Yesterday we're waiting to see if we're going to get
any relief from the tariffs on. Seafood no report of,
that although there is some reporting coming out of the
meeting which happened In. KOREA i Believe South korea that

(07:30):
officials are going to meet on key. Irritants no, timelines
none of that set equally. Important first time A canadian
prime minister has met with The chinese leadership in eight,
Years Justin trudeau was the last one to do that
in twenty. Seventeen Clearly, canada As Prime Minister kearney has,
said trying to forge new relationships With china and. Others

(07:52):
important to note no indication That china has changed its
approach when it comes to security and intelligence gathering about
anyone other than its own nation and the challenges they
provide to national. Security BUT i think Mister, Carney Primeister
karney goes in with his eyes wide open and as

(08:14):
he said in his, clip need to focus on this
given the challenge to the focus on new trade, relationships
given the challenges we are experiencing from The United. States
and that's the craziest thing about all that's happening with
The United, states As america makes it tougher to deal with.
Them we are forging potentially potentially not done yet relationships

(08:37):
with those who were previously thought to be threats to our.
Nation though we have had long standing trade relationships With,
china But china hasn't had hidden its impeerless. Ambitions, anyway
something to think. About, okay move away from the serious
and back to the. Fund tonight It's halloween in the

(08:59):
streets and roads across the province will be filled with
trick or, treaters with the, excitement with excitement the same,
everywhere celebrating rural and smaller communities can come with its
own unique set of safety considerations to help everyone ensure
everyone is safe and. Fun. Tonight OUR cmp media relations

(09:20):
Corporal jesse o'donnag spoke with vio CM's Jerry Lynn macki.
Earlier here's their.

Speaker 6 (09:26):
Conversation what advice do you offer when it comes to
trick or treaters and drivers on the, roads and especially
roads that might not have sidewalks or street.

Speaker 5 (09:35):
Lights our biggest advice today is. Vigilant we want everyone
to be extra vigilant when they're out and. About we
want motorists to be vigilant and aware of those young
trick or treaters that are going.

Speaker 1 (09:48):
From door to.

Speaker 5 (09:48):
Door of, course we want our little ones that are
dressing up in their costumes to be extra cautious as
well as they're walking from house to house and getting.
Treats can't.

Speaker 6 (10:00):
Wait in a lot of, communities, though corporal families drive
from house to. House so what are the most important
safety tips for both drivers and little ones who are
getting out of?

Speaker 5 (10:10):
Vehicles, yeah exactly in these rural parts of our, province
oftentimes families are traveling in between communities as, Well so you,
know making sure that your vehicle is ready for the
roadway is of course very. Important but when your little
trick or treaters get out of that, vehicle we want
to see them getting out on the you, know the

(10:31):
the shoulder side of the roadway where it's safe and
not out of the vehicle into traffic whenever, possible and
that they're you, know going from house to house on
the same side of the street before they cross that
street to the other.

Speaker 6 (10:44):
Side and what about for homeowners ON i guess larger
more remote, properties what can they do to make their
homes safe and welcoming for trick or treaters who might
be walking up that long, driveway.

Speaker 5 (10:56):
Making sure that there's a fair bit of lighting on
YOUR i, know we're all putting a lot of effort
into our decorations and we want it to be, spooky
but we also want it to be safe for the
trick or, Treaters, so you, know lining your driveway with
extra lighting and making sure lights are on at your,
home but also clearing hazards from your, property especially along

(11:17):
the path that the trick or treaters are most likely to.
Travel that could be you, know, hoses, ladders, planters.

Speaker 7 (11:24):
That sort of.

Speaker 5 (11:25):
Thing just clear the walkway so that it's safe for.

Speaker 6 (11:29):
Everyone earlier the, week we spoke WITH Rnc Constable Stephanie,
myers and, she you, know reminded everyone that you shouldn't
be going into houses where you don't know the. People
but does the advice about not entering homes and accepting
homemade treats does that change in a close knit, Community
it can.

Speaker 5 (11:46):
CERTAINLY i, mean obviously we don't want children to be
going into strangers', homes but oftentimes in these small rural,
communities everyone knows, everyone and a lot of the children
know their neighbors very. Well of, course you, know use
your best, judgment follow the advice of your, parents and you,
know if you're getting treats that are are homemade from

(12:09):
a trusted, adults enjoy, them, right, Okay and what's.

Speaker 6 (12:14):
The main message THE rcmp wants to send to all
families Celebrating halloween. Tonight just have a great.

Speaker 5 (12:20):
Time you, know it's it's going to be a wonderful.
Evening hopefully we can all get out and enjoy our
trick or treating before the weather hits and can then
enjoy the baseball game. Afterwards but just enjoy, yourself have,
fun but please be. Safe we want motorists obviously to
be extra vigilant for all of the extra increased pedestrian

(12:42):
traffic that we're expecting to see on all our. Roadways
and just know that there's going to be enhanced patrols
by THE rcmp in all of the communities across the.

Speaker 6 (12:51):
Province and if anyone sees anything that's concerning, tonight like
a driver who's speeding through a, community what's the best
way to report it.

Speaker 5 (12:59):
As much information as you, can and of course call
your LOCAL rcmp detachment and really that information to our.
Dispatchers if it is an, emergency if it's something that
there's a risk to public, safety call nine one.

Speaker 1 (13:12):
One all, right there you, go good. Advice gone are the, days,
eh when we were told to be mindful of the
apples that had the razor blades in them and the
caramels that looked like they weren't properly. WRAPPED i guess
we've gotten better. There just watch out for the giant.
Clowns that's our big concern in our. Neighborhood AND i
am the proprietor of the giant clown all. Right when

(13:34):
we come, back we're going to talk about THE u
Eighteen Women's National Hockey tournaments starting On sunday in The
metro area with Doctor Jared butler From Hockey. Newfoundlands stand

involved and happening in our. Community and what a great

(13:58):

tell your listeners about our national. Event we've been working
really hard as an organization to bring a national championships
To newfoundland And. Labrador the last time we hosted a
big event outside of The Allen cup was in twenty.
Eleven so this is a big event for, us particularly

(14:54):
with the growth and development and the expansion of our
women's game across the.

Speaker 1 (14:58):
Province, yeah and this it's an eight team elite. Tournament
you're going to see the best under eighteen women's players
in the. Country how long does it? Run where can
people go to get? Tickets tell us more about the
bones of the?

Speaker 7 (15:16):

in two.

Speaker 8 (15:21):

Speaker 7 (15:47):
Pearl the gold.

Speaker 8 (15:48):
Medal games And Bronze miil game will be Next, saturday the.
Eighth the bronze medal game was in The glacier and
the gold medal game will be IN.

Speaker 7 (15:57):
Cbas of, course.

Speaker 8 (15:59):
The crossovers will be day before On, friday was qualifying On.
Thursday so, OVERALL i think it's a it's a really
at action packed. Week we got young players from across the.
Country every problem is represented at this tournament AND i
really hope people come out and support this fantastic. Hockey
we've got some homegrown talented players From newfoundland And labrador

(16:20):
On Team atlantic who will be representing us very.

Speaker 7 (16:23):
Proudly at the.

Speaker 8 (16:24):
Event we hope that the young players across the city
and in The avalanche poinsulrom across The island will come
out and see the tournament in the. Games it's really
a once in a lifetime opportunity to be hosting this
prestigious event here In Newfoundland.

Speaker 1 (16:37):
Laboratory, yeah absolutely it. Is and these these these are,
impressive impressive tournaments with elite. Athletes now there isn't A
New foland, team but there's A Team atlantic and there's
four local players on. It what can you tell us
about those, players where they're from and How Team atlantic is?

Speaker 7 (16:54):
Looking, WELL i can tell you now we had a
lot of players try out For atlantic this. Year it's
one thing we've seen In newfoundland.

Speaker 8 (17:03):
And labrador is the growth in the. Game in our women's,
game it's been. Exponential we're doing absolutely fantastic and to
see the number of players that went up to this
tournament and to make this scene was. Outstanding we have
three players from Our problems representing and we have a.
COACH i just hope that people come out and support
the team as a, whole but sharing on our Local newfoundland.

(17:24):
Players it's not very often that you get to see
the nationally talented players come to Our problems and have
our own team represented.

Speaker 7 (17:33):
There this is a big.

Speaker 8 (17:34):
Deal it certainly is a big deal for us here
In newfoundland labor or to have these people on the,
team to have everybody represented from across this problems by
an exceptional group of young. People AND i hope that
they certainly packed the arenas at The glacier AND cbs
coming up over the next.

Speaker 1 (17:52):
Week, YEAH i hope they do. Too look BEFORE i
let you, GO i know there was a little news
what a month ago jared about Our TRIPLE A league
for women In newfoundland having some struggles this. Year but
on the, whole how does how is women's hockey doing
In newfoundland and The Labrador.

Speaker 7 (18:14):
WELL i THINK i wouldn't know IF i classified as, Struggles,
TIM i think classified as a. Realignment we're seeing is.

Speaker 8 (18:20):
Is growth in our, game uh more than any other
area and by. Far just give some stats for the
for the public of all the provinces and members In Hockey,
canada we are number two in growth and the entire.

Speaker 1 (18:34):
Country and, WOW i didn't know.

Speaker 4 (18:36):
That.

Speaker 8 (18:36):
Amazing, okay percentage of membership we we. Are we are
huge when it comes that we're competing WITH pc for
the top slot and percentage of members in the email
game and for the growth our council is doing exceptional
work in that we've seen great work being done by
our council in Their TRIPLE a program or DOUBLE a,
program realigning things to try to broaden our, base change our.

(18:57):
Pyramid but that's also built On, tim by the great work.

Speaker 7 (19:00):
Being dome with The Women's Junior Hockey league and and that.
Group SO i think you're seeing a realignment in our
program and the way things are going for us is
very positive and alone to continue to grow in the.

Speaker 1 (19:10):
Future, yeah AND i, think just so people, Know jared
isn't being cute with that word realignment being involved in
hockey up here In. Ontario getting leagues aligned and getting
the right level of player playing against each other is so.
Important and that is more important than whether you have

(19:30):
four a's in a league or three a's in a
league or two a's in a. League the quality of
play is depending on how well the competition is. Managed all, Right,
Jared i'll leave it. There thank you for making. TIME
i hope this is a smashing success this, week AS
i suspect it will.

Speaker 3 (19:44):
Be thank, You.

Speaker 8 (19:46):
Tim just BEFORE i, Go i'd like to say good
luck to everybody attending the tournament next. WEEK i hope
everybody say it's my trick or treating Goal jay's. Goal
and on top of, that everybody can start chair for the.

Speaker 7 (19:54):
Habs.

Speaker 1 (19:56):
Friend, well, buddy they're playing The senators this, weekend so
there could be some big Old Donnie. Brooke we'll see about,
that all, Right, jered good to talk to. You take.
Care all, right that's Doctor Jared, butler president who fled
The Labrador Hockey new Fleddal. Labrador go to that. Tournament
you are going to see good. Hockey. Okay when we come,

(20:16):
back we're going to talk about The National assembly On
Workplace democracy With Rafael. Gomez back with that in a. Moment,
well hopefully By, monday The Toronto Blue jays will Be
World series champions and On monday evening At Memorial university
there will be a regional form for The National assembly
On Workplace. Democracy let me give you a quick little

(20:39):
bit of. Background last, fall The university Of Toronto's center
For Industrial relations And Human, resources with the support Of
employment And Social Development, canada held a Citizens assembly comprised
of thirty three Everyday canadians from across the country to
establish a set of thirty one policy recommendations to help
business and government bodies affect protections for workers and enable

(21:04):
stronger work worker voice In. Canada to talk to us
about our regional event and about the importance of these.
Events we are joined by The center For Industrial relations
And Human Resources, Director Professor Rafael. Gomez Professor, gomez good
to have. You how are you doing? Today very?

Speaker 7 (21:22):
Good thank you for having.

Speaker 1 (21:23):
Me delighted to have. YOU i, mean our focus On,
toronto as it may be yours is a course on
The Blue. Jays but a, minute for a minute or,
two we'll talk about. This tell, us tell us a
little bit more about this regional form for The National
assembly on workplace democracy and what you're hoping to get
out of.

Speaker 7 (21:43):
It, absolutely but you know, what let's link it back
to The Blue.

Speaker 2 (21:46):
Jays you, know as a, team just as an, organization
you can actually see kind of the seeds of what
we were trying to do in our, assembly, which as
you quite rightly, summarize brought together thirty three quote unquote
ordinary Working, canadians few were retired to our organization and,

(22:10):
sorry just had to drop the line for one. Second
the question of worker, voice which you mentioned at at
at the tail, end there is so. Essential you, know
one of the things that they were describing on the
radio that're between The dodgers and The Blue.

Speaker 7 (22:24):
Jays The dodgers are an assembly of some of the
greatest players ever and The Blue jays are a great,
team and the team seems to be able to talk
to each other and to.

Speaker 2 (22:33):
Management if you guys, remember if you've been watching the,
series that great moment When schurzer was on the mound
and the manager.

Speaker 7 (22:40):
Look like who was coming to? Plowing and we all
know what happened after he stayed on the, mound he
struck out the side and that was a defining moment
for the. Team but apparently there have been other moments
just like, that and so the team has. Voice and
that's what we're getting at in this. Assembly we're trying
to see our workers in power to speak up at
the workplace and what effect does that have and if,

(23:02):
not if they're not in, power they don't feel like
they can speak, up how can we make it possible
for the voices of workers to be? Heard BECAUSE i
think in a, way if you don't have that kind
of agency at, work, well how do you think society
is going to? Work you, know we talk about the
sort of declining and involvement of citizens and the kind
of alienation and the rebirth of autocracy around the. World

(23:24):
but it starts at the workplace in my.

Speaker 1 (23:26):
Opinion, Well i'm involved in numerous businesses AND i couldn't
agree more with you as as an. Owner one of
the things that we have seen is also whether it's, good,
bad or, different it's the reality younger generations of, workers
be they GEN, z even The alphas and to a
certain degree, millennials have expectations of, engagement. Conversation it's not

(23:49):
command and, control and it's important for all of us
to understand. It so what at this regional form At
memorial who's going to be? There will there be more
policy recommendation that will come from this to inform the
national REPORT i gather you're pulling. Together, yeah that's.

Speaker 7 (24:05):
Great you're, right that's a great. Phrase it's from control
to Commitment and that was actually A Harvard Business review
article from the nineteen, eighties if you can believe. It
but it's still Very.

Speaker 2 (24:14):
Germane and at the, assembly what we're going to, have,
sorry at the forum which is going to be held At,
memoora which is our first one across the. Country we're
starting In Saint. John's we're going coast to, coast but
we wanted to start. There we had An assembly member
From Saint. John's they came To toronto last year at
this time a year, ago spent three days In toronto and.

(24:35):
Participated and so we're going to have that person there
on a panel along with experts From Memoria university who study,
work who have done research in the, realm either of you,
know labor unions or from the other, side management and
how empowering workers can get the best out of the
workers but also benefit the. Organization and so that's what

(24:58):
the panel is going to. Be it's a kind of
a missed of someone who, participated quote unquote panel of
experts and then the audience hopefully can be there who's
interested in this. Topic they might not be you, know
researchers or practitioners.

Speaker 7 (25:10):
And human resources or labor, relations but want to just
know more about, work the future. Work those will be
the topics that will be.

Speaker 2 (25:17):
Convening and, yes we'll be disseminating what came out of
that assembly because it was very interesting to bring Together
canadians across the country to talk.

Speaker 7 (25:26):
About work and share their experiences and then come up with.
Ideas they came up with the, ideas not. Us not,
us you, Know Ivory tower. Experts we were just there
to answer questions from the citizens who were assembled a year.

Speaker 1 (25:38):
AGO i know you got a heart out in about two.
Minutes the last question for, you it is. This so
if our audio the audience is, listening of, Course Professor,
gomez if somebody has an interest in, going can they?
Go can they be part of? This tell us about.

Speaker 7 (25:55):
That, yeah there's no ticket prices unlike The Blue jay game,
something but don't think the quality is any.

Speaker 2 (26:02):
Lower it's a free. Event it's been paid for already
by your tax. Dollars actually you Mentioned Employment Skills Development.
Canada they gave us this money and they.

Speaker 7 (26:10):
Entrusted us with it to share our. Findings so this
is a public event being hosted At Memorial. University you're
great university. There and if you go on to The
faculty of The Business administration or even the university's, website
they posted the. Event it's happening at five pm On,
monday and it's open to the. Public we've got plenty of,
room there'll be, food refreshments and A q AND a

(26:31):
with the panel and Our Citizens assembly member who joined
us last. Year so definitely open to the.

Speaker 2 (26:37):
Public we welcome participation from The Saint john's community, absolutely all.

Speaker 1 (26:43):
Right, well appreciate joining, you joining us, today and of
Course Max scherzer will be pitching tomorrow. Night if Unfortunately
jays have to go to a game, seventh it'll be,
great all, Right Professor, gomez thanks for.

Speaker 7 (26:54):
The, Time, well thank you so much for having.

Speaker 1 (26:57):
Me all, right take. Care that Is Professor Raphael. Gomez
he is part of the regional form for The National
assembly And Workplace, democracy Happening, Monday november, third five to
seven pm at The Bruno. CENTER i, believe If i'm
looking at the information, correctly sounds like it will be quite. Fascinating,

(27:18):
well you, know you, know you, know you, know we
had to talk about it because we should be talking about.
It and that's The Blue, jays because after all the
trick or treating has. Done, tonight at least on The
East coast and certainly in our, province it will be
time to watch that. Game and we are delighted to
be joined by one of our, Colleagues crosby. McWilliam he's

(27:41):
The Greg smith Of New country ninety three point. Five
the program Director, Crosby are you going?

Speaker 4 (27:47):
Tonight, no not, Tonight, tim but if it goes, SEVEN
i will be in the. Building so oh you got did? You?

Speaker 1 (27:54):
Man? Oh, wow, Yeah i've got.

Speaker 4 (27:56):
THAT i choose to look at it like it's a win.
Win we win, tonight we, win that's the best we.
Want and if we lose, Tonight i'm going to game.

Speaker 7 (28:03):
Seven so, yeah that's that's a lot to process going
into the Wet.

Speaker 1 (28:10):
And this is so Awesome crosby. THOUGH i, mean we've
had your, Colleage we've Had stu From BOOM fm, On
we've everybody is soaking this. Up it's not just A toronto,
thing but you're In. Toronto and today The Blue, jays
as they've done throughout the playoff, run, surprise, surprise they
held back one hundred and fifty tickets and they had

(28:33):
this giveaway. Today you do you know the story that
you can? Share did you know the? Story?

Speaker 4 (28:38):
NO i hadn't heard this.

Speaker 7 (28:38):
Story this is all?

Speaker 1 (28:39):
Right well, Me, well, so apparently they put the word
out that at nine Am eastern this morning they were
going to sell an additional one hundred and fifty, Tickets
but to get the tickets you had to show up
at the two b defined, location which they gave out

(29:00):
as A Blue jay dressed in your Best halloween costume
for The Blue. Jays SO i don't know what the
ticket prices. WERE i think they were, retail which would
still be. Expensive, Anyway they've done this throughout the, playoffs
AND i thought that how very very very very smart
of them to continue to give people the hope that
they might get into the. Game but how is it there?
NOW i, mean we're what five hours away from first.

(29:23):
Pitch what is the buzz like In toronto?

Speaker 7 (29:25):
Now, Crosby, oh it's so.

Speaker 4 (29:27):
CRAZY i mean this the buzz this whole.

Speaker 9 (29:29):
MONTH i mean going back To game one hundred and
sixty two Against tampa where you, know we clinched The Al.
East like from that moment, on the excitement has, built you,
know with every, win every little bit of.

Speaker 4 (29:43):
Success we've, had every outstanding, performance every home, run and
now it's at the point where you can't turn around
without Seeing Blue jays stuff LIKE i was driving into
work this morning and the woman jogging down the street
with her dogs at The Blue jays cap on you
can see the powder blue Over jersey peeking out from
under a. Windbreaker we go Into. Starbucks everybody's got it

(30:03):
going on up and Down Young. STREET i, mean it's
it's so fun to be here in the city where
we're all focused on. It my wife said to me
yesterday that she saw in the news that After game,
three the eighteen inning all nighter we call, it there
was two hundred thousand TVs in THE.

Speaker 7 (30:22):
Gta they were on at three o'clock in the. MORNING
i don't know how they measure, that but that's.

Speaker 1 (30:27):
Fantastic that is almost that's the equivalent of all of
our city Of Saint john's having their TVs, on and
a little bit. More it's almost all of the all
of Our Avalone. Peninsula WHAT i heard the modest.

Speaker 4 (30:40):
Estimate there had to be. MORE i, mean this city
is all in in a big.

Speaker 1 (30:44):
Way we might have had two hundred thousand beers out
at that time in the morning, too. Celebrating BUT i
gotta ask you, this And i'm sure you've been asked this,
before but what is it about this team that they
connect so, well not just with the people Of, toronto
but the. COUNTRY i, MEAN i Heard John snyder again this,

(31:05):
morning and he's a brilliant. Communicator AND i think it
was from his press conference yesterday and he was talking,
about you, know how jazzed And jack they, Were he
and the players when they saw the video of the
thirty thousand people just in the in The Rogers center
watching the, game and they all, Talk. Sneider the players
all talk very authentically to my mind about their love

(31:28):
of the city and the country that's adopting. Them but
from your, perspective what is it that makes this connection so?
Strong you?

Speaker 4 (31:36):
Know it's, Funny, Tim, like as you're sending that question,
up All i'm thinking, through like easily a half a
dozen or more examples in my head of just the
little things that show you that these guys are real
guys just like, Us LIKE i can look At there
was a video going around the other day Of Ernie
clement walking to the, game like with his backpack on
and fist pumping people as he walks. Up he's not

(31:57):
coming in in a black escalade to some secret parking lot.
Security he walks to work with his backpack on LIKE i.

Speaker 7 (32:03):
Do like you Got.

Speaker 4 (32:05):
Barger sleeping over on On schneyder's couch with his girlfriend
on the night Before game, one like there's there's just
and even things like when ikf got picked up on
waivers and came back here and how incredibly excited he
was to be A Blue jays, again A Blue jay,
Again like there's just there's there's so much pride in the.
Franchise there's so much pride in what they're able to.

Speaker 7 (32:27):
Do and at the end of the, day.

Speaker 4 (32:29):
There's not a guy on the team that isn't super,
likable right down to the. Coach like they had that,
terrible disappointing loss With little pitching Against seattle In game
five of THE, alcs and everybody was like hair on,
fire furious at coach and At little and. Whatever and
Then schneider just sits down and he's takes that press
conference and he answers the hard questions and he doesn't

(32:51):
throw anybody under the, bus and he just, says you,
know he feels, terrible AND i feel, terrible but we
were doing what we do here and tomorrow we're going
to get up and do it. Again and that kind of,
calm cool confidence and belief in what they're capable of
doing it says everything you need to know about why
you can get behind a team like.

Speaker 1 (33:07):
This, well and you know, EQUALLY i love the salty
language you're talking To New Filanda. Labrador we're NOT i
know sometimes In, toronto you guys are a bit sensitive
about THE f. Bombs we're a veritable c OF f
bombs in any given. Day AND i Remember stringer being
interviewed after The tampa series By Hazel may and His

(33:31):
rant And schneider after every one of the wins series
wins that they've had so. Far they speak and act
in a way, that you, know like Your Premier Doug.
Ford even if you don't Like Doug ford's, politics people
seem to relate to. Them what's it going to be like? Tonight?
Halloween All Hallow's eve with The Grim reaper pitching for

(33:55):
for l a, Mystery yamamoto only reference to The Grim
reaper he's taken his toll of Blue. JAYS i, mean
what's it going to be like there?

Speaker 10 (34:04):
TONIGHT i, MEAN i just have to think that after
facing him in game, two they've got a little bit
better idea of what he brings to the mound every,
night AND i know that they would be working on
strategies and coming up with whatever angle they can to
grind him down long.

Speaker 4 (34:22):
Enough to get into that. Bullpen if they, CAN i
mean you can go back to that game against. Him
they had a lot of opportunities in the first couple
dings they, got they got some, hits they got some
runners on they just couldn't cash him, in and then
when he really got, rolling there was no stopping.

Speaker 10 (34:35):
Him if they can do the same thing tonight but
cash those runs, IN i think it changes the momentum
of the game.

Speaker 4 (34:40):
Significantly and anytime they can get into that, bullpen it
feels like if there's a soft underbelly on The, dodgers that's.
It and The Blue jays have shown that if they
can get, there they'll capitalize on. It so anything can.

Speaker 7 (34:52):
Happen it's game.

Speaker 4 (34:52):
Six it could be it could be a pitching, duel
and we could, be you, know watching the ninth inning
with our you, know hands over our, mouths terrified of the.
Outcome or it could be a complete blowout either, way
and then you know that sets the table for the
best the most two most exciting words in. SPORTS a game, Seven.

Speaker 1 (35:12):
Well you know, what if we have our hands over
our mouth, tonight at least we can gorge candy because It's,
halloween so there's there's there's some benefits of. THAT i
gotta ask.

Speaker 4 (35:20):
Youers just a little.

Speaker 1 (35:23):
YEAH i mean there's so many benefits tonight except waking
up tomorrow and, GOD i mean that won't be fun either,
way even if they. WIN i gotta ask you. This
Though raptors went in twenty, nineteen it's a big. Deal
first time A canadian team and the Only canadian team
ever to win THE Nba, championship and there was a
lot of national. Buzz then the leaves you AND i

(35:44):
are too young to remember the last time they, won
but They but we have many Teams canadian teams in
the in THE. Nhl so what is it about this
team that separates them even from The raptors or The stanley,
Pursuit because it really does seem Like Toronto Maple league,
Fans Ottawa senator, fans aren't your All canadian, Fans we're

(36:06):
all in this together for a team From. TORONTO i
almost feel LIKE i need a, Lobotomy, crosby what is going?

Speaker 4 (36:13):
On it felt like the real test of that sort
of national identity came in The seattle, series because then
you've got The West coast, guys AND i grew up
in The, west SO i know that we had like
a geographic loyalty to The. Mariners it was easy to
zip down the safe co and watch a game. There
and there were some teams to get pretty excited, about
lots of great, Players griffy And Randy johnson a rod
at one. Point, yeah so we all liked those. Guys

(36:36):
but when push came to shove and it was our
guys against their, guys, EVERYBODY i, know all my friends
back In vancouver were, like it's let's Go Blue. Jays
so and maybe it's maybe it's the political. Climate maybe
it's just it's there's that that border feels like it's
the line is drawn a little thicker right, now and
our elbows are. Up we're we're all ready to you,
know find something to believe in and this could be the.

Speaker 1 (36:57):
Thing, yeah let's hope it. IS i thank. You you've
summarized that so. Well it's there's so many factors right,
now the composition of the, team the broader political, climate
the fact that it's a little tough out, there that
we're all cheering for multi multi, millionaires one of whom
has a connection To, Canada Laddie, guerrero who are All
american wearing their maple leafs on their chest as if

(37:19):
they were one of. Us but they're they've they've got
the country. Convinced they've got us all by a. String
let's hope they pull it off. Tonight all, Right crosby,
prediction are you going to a game? Seven or is
this thing ending?

Speaker 4 (37:30):
TONIGHT i think they do it. TONIGHT i think they
go in there and they and As ernie said the other,
day they come up with their hair on fire and
they just light it up and then the city goes
bananas and this crazy party all.

Speaker 7 (37:41):
Weekend and if they, don't well then we've always got, tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (37:45):
And, you in particular have tomorrow with your. Ticket great
to talk to, you, Man thank you for making time for.
Us so great to talk to.

Speaker 7 (37:53):
You, Tim Go Blue, Jays Go Blue.

Speaker 1 (37:55):

Halloween. NOW i first pro tip for, you not that
you need, them for. Me Bring claude ed an, oatmeal
an oat. Latte she likes oat. Lattes we have to
look After claude At it's the most important lesson you
will ever. Learn And i'm sure you know that one.
Already all right, NOW i need to know because we're
Talking Blue jays before we get to what you're going

(39:24):
to do. Tonight are there any curses or wishes or
superstitions The Blue jays need to be mindful of On
halloween before they face The Mighty dodgers.

Speaker 7 (39:34):
Tonight just keep doing whatever you've been. DOING i guess you,
know like there's all these great everyone has like a
sports good luck thing that they. Do you, know they
don't change their, jersey or they don't shower or don't.
Shave whatever you're, doing just keep not doing. It that's
that's my advice for.

Speaker 1 (39:50):
Tonight, Well Rogers center will smell all the high heaven
be so those guys haven't showered in a. Month but
never mind, them they're on after. You so what's planned
for this? Evening Dale?

Speaker 7 (40:03):
Tonight we're hopefully going to take a trip around the
province from here a bunch of great creepy stories from all,
over encouraging people to phone. In you, Know i'm Always
i'm always excited for this night BECAUSE i get to
hear stories THAT i haven't heard. Before and you, think
after all these, YEARS i would have heard all the ghost,
stories but every year someone surprises me and comes up with.

(40:25):
ONE i haven't heard, before.

Speaker 1 (40:27):
And lord Knows newfoundlanders And laboradorians are great storytellers and
love telling. Stories, WELL i asked you this this, year
but what's the story that's at the front of your
mind heading into? Tonight BECAUSE i know when we prepare for,
shows we always got something we want to. Tell so
what's the number one story you're going to lead with?

(40:48):
Tonight you don't have to tell it, all don't want
you to ruin your, Show but what are you going
to lead off?

Speaker 4 (40:52):
With?

Speaker 7 (40:53):
Yeah, Well i've been thinking about a friend of mine
who actually recently passed, away and this time of, year
we're coming up On All Souls, night where we remember
those who've gone. Before so my friend Peg moore passed
away a little bit. Ago she was From buckin's and
she had some Great buckin's ghost. Stories So i'm going

(41:15):
to dust off some of those in her, honor AND
i think we'll start off the show tonight with some
Great buckin's creepy.

Speaker 1 (41:21):
Tales that is, awesome all, RIGHT i got to ask you.
This so you may may not have heard the beginning
of the show because you're getting, already but this, morning
my son AND i he loves, Clowns and we bought this, giant,
inflatable haunted looking clown last three years. Ago we blew
it up at six o'clock this. Morning scare the hell
out of the two cats we have in the. House
you got any good clown stories THAT i can tell

(41:44):
him tonight and tell the?

Speaker 10 (41:45):
Cats oh, my you.

Speaker 7 (41:48):
Put me on the. Spot, NO i don't have any,
haunted haunted clown. Stories but, YEAH i know a lot
of people find, them find them very very. Creepy And
i'm sure there'll be a few scary clowns going door
to door.

Speaker 1 (41:58):
Tonight and what ABOUT i was saying this earlier now
that six seven dale six' seven is the word of.
The year do you think we're going to see some
kids at the door dressed as a six and? A
seven what's the best costume you've ever seen when you've
been out and about trick. OR treating.

Speaker 7 (42:16):
I remember, years ago down Down On george street for
one Of the, marti grasroficials it was someone who had this,
amazing costume a giant FISH and i think really, two,
people yeah, two people like a. Giant codfish two people
were inside it and at one point the fish kind
of stopped and coughed up a third person dressed as.

(42:39):
A fisherman i think that was, the best, hands down
The best Halloween costume i've.

Speaker 1 (42:44):
Ever seen, oh well And On, george street the costumes
look even better after a certain certain point in. The
evening so people, can, yeah exactly so people can call,
In tonight you're going to have a. Few stories what
else might? We expect you got any other guests? Lined
up what's the what's the drail? For tonight we got

(43:05):
a few.

Speaker 7 (43:06):
Ringers who are going to be calling in with some.
Ghost Stories my Kiki From tara nova is going to,
call IN and i think My Friend karas Cotter From
western bank is a great uh children's author and collector of.
Ghost stories she's going to. Phone in we've got a
few other special guests, lined up but lots of opportunities
for people to, phone in same line they would for,

(43:26):
