It's the best decision I've ever made.

Every day is now different, different sunrise at a different beach.

Speaker 6 (00:41):
That's just a paradise.

The Van Life Series.

Speaker 8 (01:01):
We almost could get away from each other.

Speaker 5 (01:03):
The fact that you can just at a point on
the map and go, you know what, I'm going to
go check this area out.

Speaker 9 (01:09):
It's those fire nights with you two as well. That's
my favorite part.

Speaker 8 (01:12):
Oh, the things we were chatting around that campfire.

Speaker 3 (01:15):
Oh, Gray's Anatomy for One.

Speaker 6 (01:18):
Disappeared for a while.

Speaker 7 (01:19):
Yeah, a fair few drinks were consumed. I'll just preface though, well, well,
welcome to the Van Life Series podcast. We are Kira
and Connor from CK Travels and we will be chatting
with our special guests Lou and Brandon. We're just going

(01:39):
to briefly talk about ourselves today. As I said before,
we're Connor and Kira from CK Travels. We both met
when we were in high school and we started dating
and pretty soon after high school.

Speaker 8 (01:53):
We did fair bit of traveling.

Speaker 7 (01:55):
We went to Canada for two years, traveled through America, England,
backpack through Central America and really got that travel bug
as most people do. And we decided to come back
to Australia, Western Australia where we were both born and raised,

(02:15):
and we got married and it was that crazy COVID
time where things are a bit weird, so we got
really really lucky being in Western Australia. We were able
to travel a lot locally and do heaps of camping,
and we decided to during that period to get a
set up that would allow us to go off grid

(02:38):
and completely explore the outback of Australia, do beach camping,
do whatever type of camping we wanted.

Speaker 8 (02:46):
We had casual jobs.

Speaker 7 (02:48):
Connor was a surveyor and we basically accrued enough money
in twenty twenty.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
Four that we hit the road. What did we do?

Speaker 6 (02:57):
Connor?

Speaker 4 (02:59):
We Hello, I'm Connor Yard loves a good intro.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
Yeah, we saved up a bunch of money and kitted
out the car and decided to pack up our lives,
sell everything and hit the road.

Speaker 6 (03:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (03:15):
At this point, did we know we were going to
meet Lewin Brandon? No, but here they are. Here's a
quick little intro to them. Hey guys, how you doing?

Speaker 3 (03:24):
Yeah?

Speaker 7 (03:24):
Hello, So Lewin Brandon, do you want to just briefly
tell us your story? You know, how you guys met,
how you got to traveling on the road and doing
almost a full lap of Australia at this point, and
what your setup is.

Speaker 9 (03:40):
Yeah almost, we've only got a little section left.

Speaker 3 (03:44):
Well, me and.

Speaker 9 (03:44):
Brannan have only been together for four and a half years,
but we met about thirteen years ago when we were thirteen,
and we were just friends for about yeah, ten eight
years before.

Speaker 3 (04:00):
We finally got together.

Speaker 9 (04:02):
And then it was actually during around Yeah, that same period,
through COVID and stuff, we just started spending more time
together because we lived so close and you weren't allowed
to see anyone not and then that's how we kind
of got together and then became in a relationship.

Speaker 3 (04:16):
And here we are now still going.

Speaker 4 (04:20):
It's so good. It's crazy. What COVID times do.

Speaker 7 (04:23):
Yeah, and Brando, do you want to kind of explain
your setup and when you guys hit the road and
how that all happened.

Speaker 5 (04:31):
So, I mean it was around that COVID time, me
and Louise, we're just struggling for some fresh air. So
we came up with the plan of all right, where
can we actually go once things all open up?

Speaker 6 (04:44):
And we're like, well, you.

Speaker 5 (04:46):
Know, overseas might be a bit risky at the start,
so we're like, let's just stick to Australia. At that point,
I had a single cab patrol ute and we just
decided let's just pimp our eye and set it up
to go touring. Mind you, my car was getting a
lot of work done, so I had an engine done,
so I didn't have my car.

Speaker 6 (05:06):
For a long period.

Speaker 5 (05:07):
So by the time we got the car back, I
had like two or three weeks to completely change setup
and fit out inside. So I was working day and
night to put in a kitchen, to put in the wardrobe,
to put in you know those extra accessories, rooftop tent.

Speaker 6 (05:23):
Awning, all that.

Speaker 3 (05:25):
Yeah, takes so much time.

Speaker 6 (05:27):
It really does.

Speaker 5 (05:28):
But at the end of the day, I look at
what we achieved in I reckon probably about two and
a half weeks and it's a full setup. So I
was staked.

Speaker 3 (05:38):
Yeah. Yeah.

Speaker 9 (05:38):
It literally went from his working car completely to a
trading vehicle to our house. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (05:44):
Yeah, it comes a little house on wheels, and yeah,
you're good to go, you know, so wild Hey yeah.

Speaker 7 (05:51):
So in a brief kind of story, I'll explain how
we all met. So last year we left Perth and
did a full six months across way Northern Territory and
top of Queensland, and almost what was a week into
our leaving Perth I think I think it.

Speaker 4 (06:13):
Was like one to two weeks after we did the southwest.

Speaker 7 (06:16):
Yeah of WA, and we were Ellendale Pools, which I
highly recommend as a spot.

Speaker 8 (06:23):
And Connor you know, if you ever meet us on.

Speaker 7 (06:26):
The road, it will be Connor that will come find you.

Speaker 3 (06:29):
He lots making new friends.

Speaker 7 (06:32):
He was having a glass or two of red wine
and I was cooking some curry, and he stumbled down
to the water's edge and started chatting with this couple,
and then he stumbled back to me and he was like, yeah,
I've just met.

Speaker 3 (06:45):
Some cool people. Come down and talk to them.

Speaker 7 (06:49):
And so I came down, and honestly, that was We
didn't had no idea at that time, but that was
literally the start of.

Speaker 3 (06:57):
A huge journey. Mat Yeah.

Speaker 7 (07:00):
When these guys ended up being literally our housemates the
whole time. We almost could get away from each other
if we died.

Speaker 3 (07:08):
Literally, it was amazing.

Speaker 7 (07:11):
At some point, I'm going to sit down and figure
out how much of that six months we actually spent together,
but it was probably like eighty percent of that time
at least.

Speaker 3 (07:20):
At least it was a lot.

Speaker 9 (07:21):
Well, we were going in the same direction, so eventually
it wasn't even our do you want to travel together?

Speaker 3 (07:26):
It was just it was like, Oh, you're going there,
I'm going there. Okay, let's just.

Speaker 7 (07:30):
If we split because yeah, hey, we're an hour away
from each other.

Speaker 3 (07:36):
Should we just wait?

Speaker 7 (07:38):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (07:39):
But I felt like it was just like a good natural.

Speaker 3 (07:42):
It just yeah, happened so organically. Yeah, it really did.

Speaker 6 (07:47):
Lucy's our first camp together.

Speaker 4 (07:50):
Yes, we'll get to that.

Speaker 9 (07:51):
Yeah, you guys invited us to Lucy's and we actually weren't.
We wanted to get going and go up. And when
you guys invited us, me and Brennan, I was like
to Brandon, we were talking in the car and I
was like, I want to go.

Speaker 3 (08:04):
I was like, we have not met.

Speaker 9 (08:06):
Such great people on the road because we traveled already
for seven months straight and we'd barely met anyone, Like
it was just a lot of just not as much
as you'd think. And I was like, no, I want
to go. I think we should go even if it
you know, were slowing down.

Speaker 3 (08:22):
And then yeah, it really did work out. We're so lucky.

Speaker 7 (08:26):
So yeah, that's pretty much how we all met during
that period.

Speaker 8 (08:30):
We obviously saw a lot, we did a lot.

Speaker 7 (08:33):
I thought i'd quickly go over some questions for everyone
if we all wanted to to quickly say, what about
our setups and life on the road that we really enjoyed,
or any tips or tricks we had for others.

Speaker 8 (08:47):
Oh away, I think for.

Speaker 7 (08:50):
Like a highlight low light, I think we would all
agree there's two probably main low lights for life on
the road. Health when things go wrong with your health
and you get injured, or you have like ongoing.

Speaker 8 (09:06):
I don't know, some sort of medical thing.

Speaker 7 (09:08):
It's really hard when you're constantly on the road to
keep on top of that, or you know, see a
doctor or a specialist, and you don't really want to
prioritize that sometimes with finances. But also I think we
all had this happened to our setups. Is things going
wrong with your car or your setup. We had some

(09:29):
issues with our tires and we had a point where
we had no idea what was happening with our car.

Speaker 3 (09:35):
We'd left it with someone to get it.

Speaker 4 (09:37):
Fixed or let's know, let's go back, let's go back
a bit.

Speaker 1 (09:40):
First issue was probably we needed to look at the
weight of the car.

Speaker 4 (09:45):
If first, everyone has to deal with it at some stage.

Speaker 1 (09:48):
And yeah, I sort of put it on the back burner,
got up the West coast of Australia and.

Speaker 4 (09:55):
The back of the tray looked a little bit.

Speaker 3 (09:59):
I jeled it.

Speaker 4 (09:59):
Yeah, yeah, that's right. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (10:01):
I decided to make the call and get some airbags
fitted to the cards to help with that extra weight.

Speaker 4 (10:07):
We wire carrying.

Speaker 1 (10:08):
Yeah, I know, it doesn't increase your capacity or anything
like that, but it just sort of helped your components
and things like that. But yeah, we all had to
deal with those weight problems, didn't we.

Speaker 7 (10:19):
Yeah, so we had weight problems and then these guys, boy.

Speaker 3 (10:23):
Boys, did we have weight problems.

Speaker 5 (10:26):
We started traveling in just a U with a touring setup,
but by the time we got to Perth we wanted
to change it up. We decided to build a camper trailer.
So we upgraded our car to something a bit more
reliable dual cabute, and then we built ourselves a little
off road camper.

Speaker 4 (10:47):
What car did you get?

Speaker 6 (10:48):
So we got a Navara and P three hundred.

Speaker 5 (10:51):
Yeah, just wish some decent mods like basic mods, bigger
fuel tank, lift tires, I think, extraordinary. But we did
our own little fit out on that jewel batteries, some
of the fridge lights, and then started working on our
camper trailer.

Speaker 9 (11:10):
And I think that we just got a bit too
excited because we went from just a car canopy to
a trailer.

Speaker 3 (11:17):
And the reason we.

Speaker 9 (11:17):
Did all that was because we obviously we traveled seven
months straight. We learned what we didn't like we wanted
to incorporate the next half of the light what we did,
and we just thought, Oh, the trailer will fit it. Oh,
the trailer will fit it. Oh we have so much room. Now,
let's just add all this stuff and keep adding and
have all these activities. Like how many chairs did we have? Guys,
like how much things did we have for everything? Anything

(11:39):
that someone needed on the road, I probably had it.
And yeah, and we thought it was going to weigh
like one point two ton. We're like, oh, it's so light,
including the build plus all of our things.

Speaker 3 (11:53):
Full of water, full of food.

Speaker 9 (11:54):
It weighed what was it, Brandon one point nine at
the beginning.

Speaker 6 (11:57):
It was one point eight nine.

Speaker 3 (11:59):
Got there you go one point eight nine.

Speaker 9 (12:01):
Sorry, that was I'm so so Banner and our trailers
rated to a one point five.

Speaker 6 (12:07):
Yeah, I mean there's.

Speaker 5 (12:11):
So many things that you don't realize until you leave, correct.
You think you've got everything, but you find yourself every
main town you go, I need.

Speaker 3 (12:19):
To get this, I need to get rid of that.
You get rid of things, so you add things.

Speaker 7 (12:24):
Yeah, for sure, this is always so long pay when
you're on the road.

Speaker 1 (12:28):
Yeah, and getting things on the road as well, that's
another big yeah, drama if you're in remote towns trying
to catch up to postage.

Speaker 9 (12:38):
And especially in wa remote areas, it takes so long.
It says it's going to be a week and then
you get there.

Speaker 3 (12:44):
For a week.

Speaker 9 (12:44):
Like we've all both of us have had to wait
in certain suburbs for too long for postage.

Speaker 3 (12:53):
Yeah, definitely.

Speaker 7 (12:55):
So yeah, so some things that definitely can go wrong
is your set up make.

Speaker 3 (13:01):
Do you know?

Speaker 6 (13:03):
Yeah?

Speaker 7 (13:03):
What part what area of Australia would you guys do again?

Speaker 9 (13:07):
Yeah, like ninety percent all of it? Like it's so
hard because I know that's like, so come on, give
me something better.

Speaker 6 (13:15):
But personal though.

Speaker 9 (13:17):
It's so personal, and it also depends like sometimes we've
been to places and we've thought we.

Speaker 3 (13:22):
Haven't had a good time, but that's just because of
the weather. Yeah, so it's like so weather dependent.

Speaker 9 (13:27):
But if I had to choose just certain sections, I
would like to do their air Peninsula again in South Australia,
Like I'd want to spend so much time there, and
I would honestly do a whole entire Western Australia coast.

Speaker 6 (13:43):
Yeah, West Coast, I love it.

Speaker 3 (13:45):
I just do.

Speaker 9 (13:45):
I would wake up tomorrow and do everything that we did,
just again it's even exactly how we did it, or
even oh even a bit more.

Speaker 3 (13:54):
I would have liked to see Shark Bay a lot more.

Speaker 7 (13:56):
Yeah, even longer, yeah, longer doing it again, agreed.

Speaker 3 (14:00):
What about you guys lap round two?

Speaker 4 (14:03):
Well, we need to finish that, We need to finish
the rest of it.

Speaker 3 (14:06):
Yeah, that's it. There's so much.

Speaker 1 (14:08):
We've sort of in that position right now where you
guys were after seven months of travel, you know, like
get up way across.

Speaker 4 (14:15):
Your money is.

Speaker 1 (14:17):
Sort of running a bit low, and it's time to
top up the bank accounts for a little while, and yeah,
then figure out the next part of the journey. But
the west, the East coast is looking like it's going
to be pretty amazing what I've seen on Instagram and
speaking to other people. We can't wait too But definitely

(14:39):
West coast, oh west is best.

Speaker 9 (14:41):
As they say, well, you haven't done the East coast yet.
Don't don't tell us short yet.

Speaker 4 (14:45):
Guys coming from those East coasters.

Speaker 3 (14:48):
Exactly, it's pretty good. It is good.

Speaker 9 (14:52):
Yeah, we've grown up going up and down this coast
and it's so.

Speaker 3 (14:56):
Much to offer.

Speaker 9 (14:56):
It's a lot of different variety that's I think the difference.

Speaker 1 (14:59):
But yeah, favorite favorite spot too hard, definitely x Arthur's
always a winner.

Speaker 3 (15:07):
Always going to go back to the Ningaloo, no matter what.

Speaker 1 (15:12):
It's you got snorkeling off the coast, beautiful coral, amazing
beach camps, just got a plan and preparemmy.

Speaker 3 (15:23):
Yeah, that kind of thing so well.

Speaker 7 (15:25):
That leads me perfectly into the next one. What do
you think was overrated?

Speaker 9 (15:29):
Like?

Speaker 3 (15:29):
What area, what location is overrated? I think me and
Brendan had a different answer for this.

Speaker 9 (15:36):
I said, like, personally, I think Monkey Mayer was completely overrated,
but I don't know if it's because we just went
in a bad weather day. But I also think even
if it was good for what it was, I would
have much rather not go there at all and spend
way more time in Shark Bay and the Francis Perry

(15:58):
National Park. I thought everyone raves about Monkey Maya. I'm
not entirely sure why.

Speaker 5 (16:03):
I kind of agree with that because you're almost just
paying to enter a car park next to yeah, Aravan Park,
and pretty much on a good day, I reckon that
spot would be fantastic.

Speaker 1 (16:15):
But there's so much other spots that are good, literally
around the corner and yeah, a bit of a full
drive track. I know a lot of van life has
can't really get up that way, but getting to some
of those spots that we went to Blue Lagoon, getting
up there with a full drive is definitely the way
to go.

Speaker 4 (16:33):
That was. We had some of our best sides there,
do we guys.

Speaker 6 (16:36):
Yeah, smooth roads on the entrance.

Speaker 9 (16:38):
And except for those roads, yes, very sarcastic bredden.

Speaker 3 (16:45):
Like that was. That was the time for sure. But yeah,
what was an overrated spot? Brendo. You guys aren't gonna
like this.

Speaker 5 (16:53):
Yeah, look, it's probably a bit controversial, but Broom Broom.

Speaker 6 (16:57):
For me, I it kind of was what I expected. Yeah,
but it also left me wanting more.

Speaker 5 (17:07):
Like I really enjoyed the Dampier region, the Dampier coast
or peninsula, whatever you call it.

Speaker 6 (17:14):
I really enjoyed that region.

Speaker 5 (17:16):
But Broom itself, I think it's just one of those
things that you get expectations best reality and it was
just just a kind of a glorified tourist hot spot.
And I'm just a bit you know, I like to
be a bit more away from people. So for me,
I was like, ah, just a bit not what I'm after.

Speaker 8 (17:36):
Yeah, I love spaces.

Speaker 3 (17:40):
You're like an age.

Speaker 4 (17:40):
Yeah, but that makes sense.

Speaker 7 (17:43):
Yeah, I think for me overrated James Price point was
that the red rock?

Speaker 3 (17:50):
Yeah, James Price Oh my god.

Speaker 8 (17:53):
Okay, so it is beautiful. I'll give it that, but
it's beautiful from above.

Speaker 9 (17:59):
It's just a crazy drive in as well. To not
be able to swim in that water.

Speaker 3 (18:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (18:05):
Yeah, So just a heads up for anyone going there.
Definitely byo toilets and it can get really really hot,
so make sure you have enough shade during the day,
enough water to last year.

Speaker 4 (18:17):
Things like that, the red dirt and the heat.

Speaker 3 (18:20):
Yeah, it was a lot, so just a heads up.

Speaker 6 (18:23):
For that one.

Speaker 4 (18:23):
Luckily we had those tidal pools too.

Speaker 3 (18:26):
Yeah. No, that was nice.

Speaker 4 (18:29):
Do you have a spotlight?

Speaker 3 (18:31):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (18:31):
I'm sort of on the edge between Broom as well,
but I did love Broom for a few other things
and also Darwin. Again, the city was cool. But you
go there for minimum time for.

Speaker 3 (18:48):
luxA and leave, yeah, very much.

Speaker 1 (18:51):
Yeah, I guess we're on the same page again with
trying to find those open spaces.

Speaker 4 (18:55):
But yeah, again with when you go.

Speaker 1 (18:58):
To a city like that and a place like Broom,
your always required to find accommodation and then it affects
your budget.

Speaker 8 (19:12):
Yeah, it's always going to be so much more exciting
in town.

Speaker 9 (19:15):
So I guess that's just yeah, where your priorities kind
of lie sort of thing like is it worth the
hype to go there and obviously spend that extra money
being in the city.

Speaker 4 (19:24):
Yeah, I think going there to stock up and check
it out for a day or two is a good
idea and then head out.

Speaker 6 (19:33):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (19:33):
I think we probably spent a bit more time than
we wanted in the city areas, but yeah, it was
nice to Yeah, to see civilization for a little bit, but.

Speaker 7 (19:43):
Sometimes you need to feel human again as well, like
having a shower and that time to just.

Speaker 3 (19:48):
Relax by pool at a caravan park size.

Speaker 9 (19:51):
I've got to ask if you guys agree with me
on this though, the overratedness. Do you think this springs
in Northern Territory are overrated? Like except berries Madaranka?

Speaker 3 (20:06):
No, not berry? Sorry, is it berry or bitter?

Speaker 9 (20:11):
I don't think he went to all of them, but
Catherine Hot Springs and the Mataranka one, and it was
a bitter springs.

Speaker 8 (20:20):
Bitter berry Madaranka and.

Speaker 4 (20:25):
Catherine.

Speaker 9 (20:26):
There's only one of them that is worth going to,
and it's the one near Lichfield.

Speaker 3 (20:30):
Is that Berry.

Speaker 6 (20:31):
I think Berry's my favorite spring.

Speaker 9 (20:33):
That was insane and incredible. But the other three I
walked in there and I was like, this is so
not what I expected. Everyone raved about all of them,
especially Mataranka and Bitter. I thought Bitter stunk. It was like,
I didn't even go in that water. I was like, oh,
this does not look like what it's supposed to do

(20:54):
what I've seen.

Speaker 7 (20:55):
So it basically is warm water, warm fresh water that
is coated in algae, which is.

Speaker 8 (21:04):
Slimy and all over you and it smells.

Speaker 9 (21:08):
Yeah, and even Catherine Hot Springs like that was nice,
but it was just extremely It's almost like I guess
the locals pool, so there's just a lot of rubbish.
But I thought the springs were overrated except for Berry Springs.

Speaker 3 (21:24):
That was amazing. Like me and Brannan went back three times. Yeah,
I think we went back twice. To me, I loved that. Yeah,
that was good.

Speaker 9 (21:32):
But all the others, I'm like, I tell people, I'm like, oh,
if you drive past, honestly, just talk good.

Speaker 3 (21:38):
Yeah, don't worry about it. Yeah.

Speaker 7 (21:41):
Handy tip for Berry as well, go there early before
any of the tool buses.

Speaker 3 (21:46):
And anyone else, and you get it all to yourself.
We did that in the second time, so.

Speaker 9 (21:51):
Deg we almost everywhere. Yeah, hit it up early always.

Speaker 7 (21:57):
So this is gonna be a really hard question to answer, guys,
but you can, you know, categorize it or narrow it down.
But what's the best parts of living on the road
traveling around Australia.

Speaker 6 (22:08):
Oh, I'd say the freedom.

Speaker 3 (22:11):
Yeah, that is good.

Speaker 4 (22:15):
That's a great one for me.

Speaker 5 (22:17):
It's the fact that you can just look at a
point on the map and go, you know what, I'm
going to go check this area out and it might
be one of your top spots and it might be fantastic,
and you might go, oh, man, I want to spend
three nights here because it's just beautiful and it's exactly
what I want right now.

Speaker 4 (22:36):
That just threw me right back to Karajanie.

Speaker 6 (22:40):
Yeah. Absolutely, you don't really know what you're in for.

Speaker 9 (22:43):
You're right, Brannan, and you've got no one to answer to,
no one to answer to, so.

Speaker 6 (22:47):
You can just really can just do whatever you want
in a sense.

Speaker 5 (22:51):
Yeah, Like it's like you're a little child and you
can just play and run around and do whatever you like.

Speaker 4 (22:57):
Yeah, that is.

Speaker 6 (22:59):
Probably my favorite thing.

Speaker 3 (23:01):
That's beautiful.

Speaker 4 (23:02):
Yeah, that's the best freedom.

Speaker 3 (23:04):
What about you? For me, it's honestly just I never fit.

Speaker 9 (23:10):
I always feel my best because my body is just
in tune with the sun. Like when the sun I
never miss the sunrise. You don't miss the sunset. Like
your body just becomes so in tune with that time.
And there's just something so natural about that, like no alarms,
know nothing. I just wake up to that, I calm
down with it, and I just feel my best in

(23:31):
that sort of sense, appreciating things more like I'm a
different person to when I left, just as far as
appreciation goes. And my favorite things is just to sit
by the fire at night and do nothing like That's
my favorite memory is those fire nights with you guys.

Speaker 3 (23:47):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (23:48):
Yeah, Like when people ask, oh, what's your favorite thing,
I'm like, yeah, I've done the whole whale shark thing,
da da da.

Speaker 3 (23:54):
But when it comes down to it, for me, it's.

Speaker 9 (23:56):
Those fire nights with you two as well as that
like community we had together.

Speaker 3 (24:00):
It was just that's my favorite part.

Speaker 4 (24:03):
Yeah, I really love that well.

Speaker 7 (24:05):
O Golds tear it up a little bit over here,
stop it, they stop it.

Speaker 4 (24:11):
So many good good campfire amazing memories.

Speaker 8 (24:15):
Oh the things we were chatting around that campfire.

Speaker 3 (24:18):
Oh, Gray's anatomy for one.

Speaker 4 (24:21):
Yea disappeared for a while.

Speaker 8 (24:24):
Yeah, yeah, so little of it out for hours and
hours and hours.

Speaker 7 (24:28):
So Connor and Brandon were just like, gosh, here we
go again, Here we go again.

Speaker 4 (24:32):
I think.

Speaker 7 (24:33):
Yeah, for me, exactly the same two things. The freedom
to be able to go to sleep and have no
idea what you're doing tomorrow. For me, who's like a
little organized kind of OCD person that has to have,
you know, the Google calendar, know what's going on, to
just be able to like throw that all away, and yeah,

(24:54):
just have that flexibility and freedom.

Speaker 4 (24:57):
Connor, where are we going tomorrow? Yeah well I don't
actually know. We'll figure it out tomorrow.

Speaker 8 (25:02):
It probably like centered me a little bit more.

Speaker 3 (25:05):
Oh I love that.

Speaker 7 (25:07):
And yeah, the whole just being able to really slow
down and appreciate things more. You really like in tune
with nature, you really see the small things you really like,
appreciate little things.

Speaker 3 (25:22):
A lot more for sure.

Speaker 7 (25:24):
And yeah, one of those little things is the connections
that you meet on the road. So we had no
idea when we started this journey how long it was
going to take, what we're going to do, and even
more so that we're going to meet Lewi Brandon. That
was completely a surprise and that was one under the
best part of the trip. If people asked us what

(25:45):
the highlight was, that was our highlight of the trip
for sure.

Speaker 4 (25:49):
Very thankful.

Speaker 3 (25:50):
We're so grateful for that.

Speaker 1 (25:52):
I mean, you hear a lot about other people and
their travelers on the road and whether or not they
should go and talk to other people.

Speaker 4 (25:59):
And just if you see someone you.

Speaker 1 (26:03):
Feel like you should talk to, just we say go
to it, like one hundred percent. If they've got Instagram
or you see that they're big on Instagram, doesn't matter.
Like we're all there for the same reasons, you know,
like we've got to meet people on the road.

Speaker 4 (26:17):
It's like the way that we connect.

Speaker 3 (26:19):
Yeah, and all ages as well.

Speaker 9 (26:21):
Like it's like nice, Like I've noticed being back in
Victoria because we're seeing family right now. You go to
the beach, you go on walks, no one says hello,
no one says like, hey, how are.

Speaker 3 (26:29):
You going, what are you doing?

Speaker 9 (26:30):
But on the road, everyone has like at the end
of the day, whatever they are and what they're doing,
we're all here for the same purpose, like to see Australia.
And the amount of random conversations I've had, even if
it was just for five seconds. Yeah, never see him again.
It's just so rewarding to have that, like that sense
of community.

Speaker 3 (26:49):
I miss that.

Speaker 8 (26:50):
I know, it's and it's where are you coming from?

Speaker 6 (26:54):
Where are you going?

Speaker 7 (26:55):
You know, where do you originally come from? Where's home?
And what's next? Like all of those conversations with those people,
like those connections.

Speaker 1 (27:03):
And then you get that random can action that you
end up being their housemates.

Speaker 7 (27:08):
Yeah, yeah, exactly. So yeah, always stopping so high on
the road for sure.

Speaker 6 (27:14):
YouTube.

Speaker 9 (27:16):
Yeah, you two both made us think that we should
be much more out there. Me and Brandon was so
closeted when we just had.

Speaker 3 (27:23):
Our car and riptop.

Speaker 1 (27:25):
That leads on to me for the highlight, definitely agree
with all three of you, but definitely the highlight for
me was that first night when we were talking about
Lucy's campground Loo full Moon campfire.

Speaker 3 (27:40):
Was that with the crabs as well? And oh yeah,
oh they were so cool.

Speaker 4 (27:44):
That was definitely the highlight of my trip.

Speaker 3 (27:48):
I love her. That first night wow.

Speaker 1 (27:50):
Yeah, just like figuring out that we knew that we
from that point onwards, we were going to be cooking dinners.

Speaker 4 (27:57):
Yeah, doing silly things.

Speaker 7 (27:59):
A fair a few drinks were consumed. I'll just preface
the bonded well over that campfire and yeah, whatever we
were drinking.

Speaker 3 (28:08):
But it was so much fun.

Speaker 1 (28:10):
But obviously just being on the road as well, like
you said, the freedom not knowing we're going to end
up tomorrow, Yeah, all the day after is so good
and just being able to stop and take it all
in if you want, depending on obviously supplies and things
like that. But yeah, it's just being on the road

(28:30):
and love and life. We can't recommend it highly enough. Yeah,
definitely to anyone wanting to do it.

Speaker 7 (28:39):
Yeah, So any tips you guys want to give others
on the.

Speaker 6 (28:43):
Road, Oh, where do you start?

Speaker 4 (28:46):
I guess I know it's hard, isn't it.

Speaker 9 (28:49):
Be prepared for be prepared to not be prepared.

Speaker 5 (28:54):
Yeah, No matter how much you plan something, yeah, things
will never go to plan and that's okay.

Speaker 9 (29:00):
And just like yeah, and you just gotta as hard
as it is when things do go wrong, just try
if you're traveling with someone, just work as a team.
You're both worried, you're both stressed, but it'll be okay.
And if you're alone, I mean that's it. If something
goes wrong, like, it'll be okay. It's going to happen.

(29:21):
You can't prep yourself enough, but try to and accept
it because it's like, it's all good. This is just
part of it. I wish I knew how much things
were going to go wrong because you stress because that's
your house.

Speaker 3 (29:30):
You're like, oh, like.

Speaker 9 (29:32):
If I just have a blown tire, I don't just
have a blown tire, Like that's my home that's now
tilted or whatever.

Speaker 3 (29:37):
So I think just being prepared for that, and yeah.

Speaker 5 (29:41):
I think also, you can't see everything, I know, that's what. Yeah,
you know, if you have no time limit, you can
see everything at a time day, you'll pick a route
and that'll determine where you go and where you are
at certain times. And don't get hung up, you know,
don't get so focused on what you want to see

(30:03):
that you stop seeing what's right in front of In
a sense, because I think it's really easy to go, okay,
where too next? Where too next? When you're moving around
and sometimes you just go like, look where I am now.

Speaker 7 (30:15):
Yeah, exactly, be really in the moment, because I thought
you've got tomorrow, you're.

Speaker 3 (30:21):
Somewhere near you know.

Speaker 7 (30:22):
Yeah, yeah, I agree, I do agree. And it's so
easy to forget that. That's one thing that I had
to remember a lot. What's next for you guys? What's
next for Lew and Brandon? Do you want to briefly
talk about your troops this year?

Speaker 3 (30:37):
Well, we still want to.

Speaker 9 (30:40):
So we have traveled from Victoria to Sunshine Coast, Queensland,
then down to the whole South Australian coast, whole Western Coast,
all of Norland Territory and out back Australia. So we
still have the top of Queensland to see, but we
are going to take a break and go to Asia
for six to nine months this year.

Speaker 7 (31:01):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (31:03):
So exciting.

Speaker 9 (31:04):
Yeah, just changed it up a little bit.

Speaker 4 (31:07):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (31:08):
So the Navara they've separated their trailer, so the trailer's
going bye bye.

Speaker 3 (31:15):
I don't know if you guys have told it.

Speaker 5 (31:17):
Yet, we know, yeah, and as we've advertised that we're going,
why are we advertising this? Keepople?

Speaker 3 (31:24):
I know we love it so much, but that's it.

Speaker 9 (31:28):
We're just we're apparently we just upgrade every seven months,
go from patrol to Navara to trailer and next to
the caravan.

Speaker 7 (31:36):
So yeah, so maybe when these guys are back, they'll
have a completely different setup and then that's them for
twenty twenty five. And for us personally, we have our Triton.
It's specially Trent and Troy. He we did change our
setup as well. We ended up we started a really
kind of budget setup and we traveled most of Australia

(32:00):
with that.

Speaker 1 (32:01):
And then look, I bought the car and already had
a pretty high job canopy on the back of it.
Nothing to the standards of some of the setup you
cvs days, that's for sure. Yeah, so yeah, I just
wanted to upgrade the back really still do it quite
budget because obviously everyone's trying to do everything fudge it

(32:22):
these days unless you want to get a massive loan
and things like that.

Speaker 4 (32:27):
But yeah, we just I just gutted.

Speaker 1 (32:30):
The whole rear of the canopy and got a bare
box and just started building it myself. Halfway through it
at the moment, just building the false floors and getting
the electrics in. But yeah, I'm due to flight to
site next week, so that's going to be put on
hold for a little while, but yeah, and.

Speaker 4 (32:46):
We'll see what happens with that.

Speaker 7 (32:47):
I think for us it's going to be an ongoing
project because we've just moved to Queensland to yeah, start
generating some income and exploring this state for the immediate future.
So we're going to work on our setup and I
think later this year we're going to try do Cape
York in the dry if we're ready, and maybe a

(33:09):
camping trip down to Brisbane along the coast later this year.
So we have some trips coming up and locally, we'll
do some stuff in between, but not as crazy as
twenty twenty four. But who knows twenty twenty six what's
going to happen.

Speaker 6 (33:24):
We shall see traveling housemates you're not.

Speaker 9 (33:27):
Yeah, maybe yeah again, Well we'll be coming up north,
so we'll pick you up along the way.

Speaker 3 (33:35):
We will re units.

Speaker 4 (33:36):
Yeah, you can jump in your.

Speaker 9 (33:38):
Caravan anytime it's hot, anytime the bugs are annoying us.

Speaker 3 (33:43):
Guys come on in.

Speaker 7 (33:45):
Luin Bred definitely showed us the luxuries of some parts
of camping, Like they're cooking set up and they're multiple
chairs and.

Speaker 1 (33:55):
I guess that's the lights what the difference was between
someone starting completely fresh and yeahs as someone who's been already.

Speaker 3 (34:02):
Doing that's it is.

Speaker 9 (34:04):
We did everything you guys did sort of thing, and
it was also.

Speaker 3 (34:12):
Never a step behind. Ever. Its that's it. Everyone's got
to start somewhere. And it was funny.

Speaker 9 (34:16):
I loved watching you guys because what you guys like,
I saw ourselves like a year ago.

Speaker 3 (34:22):
I was like, yeah, we used to do that. Yep,
we used to fight about that.

Speaker 9 (34:25):
Don't worry, you'll get there, Like, it's just it's all
a process.

Speaker 3 (34:29):
It's so funny, isn't it looking back?

Speaker 7 (34:32):
How much have changed? And then we're probably going to
be that for other people.

Speaker 3 (34:36):
Yeah advanced to hear.

Speaker 8 (34:38):
Guys, Yeah, well we're really not.

Speaker 9 (34:42):
No one's advanced. It's I said, you can't. You can't
be perfect exactly. It's preference And yeah that's it.

Speaker 7 (34:50):
You guys, have you got anything else that you'd like
to add before we sign off?

Speaker 5 (34:54):
I was just wanting to say, just going back to setups,
like you don't have to have you know, at the top,
top for the edge, you know, exactly set up.

Speaker 6 (35:04):
I've seen so many people who have started with just
an escie.

Speaker 3 (35:08):
And I was about to say that, and.

Speaker 6 (35:10):
As getting out there having fun, you'll go.

Speaker 5 (35:12):
You know what, I'm happy to compromise that for more
travel or you know what, I really want a comfortable
chair because I sit in this chair eight hours out
of every two days. I want a nice chair. Yeah, sure,
but I'm happy to compromise that. And that just always
comes down to personal preference.

Speaker 3 (35:32):
Absolutely, Brannon.

Speaker 9 (35:33):
It's like, don't get hung up on exactly having the
better things. You'll learn and you can get them if
you want.

Speaker 3 (35:39):
But like, my.

Speaker 9 (35:39):
Cousin's about to travel around Australia, she's asking us for advice,
and actually so is my friend's brother that I've got
to go meet with him.

Speaker 3 (35:46):
To do it. And I'm just like, choose a start day.

Speaker 9 (35:49):
And just go, Like just go, don't because there's always
going to be a reason as to why you need
to stay, either for someone's event or because you don't
have this for your car. I'm like, if you're willing
to work on the road, you can pick up work
on the road. If you don't have for money, if
you need to buy something, do not bother go away,
or what I'd recommend is actually going away in your

(36:09):
home state for like a month and then figuring out.

Speaker 3 (36:13):
What you need for sure. Yeah, like we didn't get
to but that would be good.

Speaker 9 (36:18):
It's like do it if you can, because a lot
of people don't include their home state is part of
their lap, depending where they're from.

Speaker 3 (36:22):
I guess maybe that's just Victorians. But like a do a.

Speaker 9 (36:25):
Tar run in your state, then you can come back
and decide what you want. Don't buy everything you need,
honestly because you won't need half of it.

Speaker 5 (36:31):
Won't use your overpack for sure. No matter what you do,
you're going to overpack the first time you leave, Yes,
and you'll end up going why do I bring this?

Speaker 6 (36:40):
And you will end up shipping at.

Speaker 3 (36:42):
Home anything else? From you? Louise, No, that's it's see it.
What about you, Connell?

Speaker 4 (36:49):
No, I'm just anyone who is thinking about doing it.

Speaker 1 (36:53):
We we fully recommend just get out there and go
for it, like it's an epic lifestyle. You will burn
through your savings, but money can always be made. Time
is very important, so make the most of it.

Speaker 3 (37:12):
You make memories and that's far more fun.

Speaker 7 (37:16):
We have a beautiful country and it's so sad to
go through life and not explore a little bit of it,
so enjoy it why you can. All right, so we'll
sign off there. Thanks so much for joining Lou and Brandon.
