Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. James 1:19-20

Speaker 1 (00:05):
Good morning. Welcome to a new work week. I hope
you're looking forward to what's in this week for you.
You know, even when we don't know.
Ah, what is waiting for us in the coming week,
we can look forward with hope and even confidence to
the coming week because we know that God is in

(00:27):
it with us. I hope you have a living relationship
with God because what a difference that makes to your life.
The unknown to us is not unknown to God, and
God is working even in the bad circumstances and uh.
The difficult circumstances of life, he's still working to produce

(00:49):
his goodwill for us in our lives, and that is awesome.
So as you go into this week, you know, the
most important thing is your relationship with that God. And
the best way to develop your relationship with Him, if
you have begun that relationship is by taking time with
Him every day and opening your Bible and just saying, God.

(01:12):
Speak to me please, through your word. I want to
hear from you personally, and I want you to be
the leader of my life. And when God becomes the
leader of your life and you pay attention to what
He's saying in your life, that's when your life really
comes into balance and comes into focus as long as
you're responding to what God is saying to you.

(01:35):
Well, this week we want to look at the theme
of anger and see what God has to say to us,
and I want to take us to a simple little
verse in the Book of Proverbs, and you know, the
Book of Proverbs so often just consists of one liner
principles where in just a brief sentence God says something

(01:56):
really profound about life, and here's what he says.
Proverbs chapter 19 verse 19.
A man of great anger will bear the penalty, for
if you rescue him.
You will only have to do it again. Let me
read that one more time. A man of great anger

(02:18):
will bear the penalty, for if you rescue him, you
will only have to do it again.
Well, really,
It's telling us that anger is addictive, isn't it?
We all have that propensity inside of us. If we
don't find a way to nip anger in the bud,

(02:39):
it takes root.
And the intense emotions that come with it take over
our lives, and they begin to even poison our character,
our whole way of reacting to people and circumstances, and
anger spills over from just that one thing that we

(03:00):
are angry about.
Into all the areas of our lives and it ends
up ruining our relationships and just wreaking havoc in our lives.
And the more tragic result is the damage that anger
does to our relationship with God.

(03:22):
Anger, it can become a characteristic of your life. If
you rescue a man of great anger, you will only
have to do it again. It becomes
His way of reacting.
Well,
We need to ask God to reveal anger that's in

(03:42):
our lives that's affecting everything about us and to help us.
And you know something
You often cannot control your anger, can you?
But do you know that God is more powerful than that?
Instinctive response of anger that is in you.

(04:06):
And if you come to God and are willing to say, God,
I will not be the leader of my life, but
you will, and I'm asking you to enable me to
respond to this person or to this situation, to respond
to this anger I feel inside of me, and to

(04:27):
begin to replace it with your love and your peace
and forgiveness.
If you will invite God to do it, what you
cannot do in your own strength, Jesus can do, and
He will do it in you.
When you resort to shouting in conflict, you're just reacting

(04:51):
in your own sinful nature. You've lost control of the
only person you have any hope of controlling, and that's yourself.
And sometimes you don't even have the ability to control yourself,
but you can turn to God and find help from Him.
I'm John North.
