Podcast Episode 001: Time Travel

Hello, my name is Nicholas. I am a 38-year-old man and I have a disability called Autism.

I am making this podcast because I would like to talk about a topic that might have crossed every one’s mind once in a while, or at least one time in their lives.

Time travel!

To fix the bad things in their lives, the mistakes. Or, to stop making those bad decisions that one has regretted to this day.

Also to change the results of sporting outcomes or political elections and referendum results, or to pluck up that courage to ask that one person out on a date.

Let us start with the idea of changing the past.

Changing a historical person’s life and also change history to prevent tragedies includes assassinations, manmade disasters, and attacks to name a few.
So, if this could be done without any side effects… Would that be right or wrong?

I have thought about this topic a fair few time, for example I would have saved Tony Modra from having a knee injury during the first preliminary final between Western Bulldogs and Adelaide at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne on Saturday September 20th 1997,

so he can take part in the Crows’ first Grand Final appearance which they won and had their first premiership a week later in the same year.

Yes, I am Crows supporter, and as Mr Modra was an exceptional player, the outcome, I believe, would have been the same if he was in the premiership team on the field of glory that day. So, time travel with no side effects to my understanding.

Would Tony have been traded to the Fremantle football team if he played with the Crows’ second premiership team a year later?

I don’t think that he would have been traded over, and might have stayed in the Mighty Crows ‘til the day of retirement.
But, the people in the Fremantle team that got to learn from and be inspired by Tony would have not got that opportunity if changing the past could have happened.

Which would bring us to the Butterfly Effect.

My understanding of the Butterfly Effect is what would the present look like and what would be the future if the past had changed as part of the course of history?
They would be different to what they are now, from very slight differences to massive differences, and possibly no change at all; a ripple here could be a title wave there.

A good movie to watch to explain it in Hollywood style would be the movie “The Butterfly Effect”,  which was an Asthon Kutcher movie which came out around twenty years ago.

If I could change one thing in my past -Butterfly Effect free- it would have to be more successful with my plans to become a writer and novelist. Not that I have stopped as I could never give up on my dream; but I would have loved to have seen my novel become a best seller.

Some movies I loved that had some time travel. They were the Back to the Future 1 and 2, but I am not much of a fan of the 3rd movie; The Time Machine, the original movie that came out in 1960. Somewhere in Time is another great time travel movie with Christopher Reeve that come out in 1980, and there is also the movie Peggy Sue Got Married, a general story of when Peggy Sue fainted and collapsed and then woke up in the past and found out she is living in her own past… it came out in 1986!

There is one more movie that had time travel in it that I liked and it was The Final Countdown… that movie come out in 1980. The movie was about a navy carrier being sucked into a time warp and entered into the day before Pearl Harbour in 1941.

I am not much of a horror or thriller movie fan so I have not seen all of The Butt
