Speaker 2 (00:12):
And then there was one has been full time s
Beach remaining for Indy Car in twenty twenty six who
goes Hollinger? As confirmed sting Ray Rob will remain competing
in their lineup. So what options are available for Connor Daily?
As the racing season comes to a close this weekend
F one from Abu Dhabi and here at Circuit of

(00:33):
the America is the World Racing League comes to a finish.

Speaker 3 (00:36):
Hello and welcome.

Speaker 2 (00:37):
It's Trackside ninety three to five, one oh seven five
the Fan in Indianapolis and in Austin, Texas.

Speaker 3 (00:45):
So Kurt I thought.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
We'd go exploring because we're casually employed in the off
season and it's supposed to be warmer in Texas. I
made the trip of Jackson this weekend and it's cole dreary, rainey,
no snowshoveling though, so we got that going for us.

Speaker 3 (00:59):
We'll talk more about that Ian just a little bit.

Speaker 2 (01:02):
We've gotten dues to get to, including Grandpa Cavn.

Speaker 3 (01:08):
Give us the full details you left us with a cliffhanger.

Speaker 1 (01:10):
Last week, well, I left you with a cliffhanger because
contractions started on Monday afternoon, or pretty serious consistent contractions,
and Lucy wasn't born until four thirty am on Wednesday,
so nearly two full days of contractions, too sleepless nights

(01:32):
for my wife. I slept on Monday, but not on Tuesday.
And all is well. Lucy's been home a week and
she's adorable. And I have left photos to my daughter's discretion,
although I have shared him with you and a few others.
But it actually is, you know, I would actually say

(01:56):
it's even better than that. It being your child being
born a little different, but I would say it's better
because at this point in my life, I have more
perspective and I have more you know, I know I
have less responsibilities, if you will, and it's just the
enjoyment of the moment rather than holy cow, I don't

(02:17):
know what I'm going to be doing next. I have
no idea how to raise this child, which is as
you know, where you're at as a first time parent.
You have no idea what's ahead of you. You have
no idea if you're going to break this little child
or you know you figure something is going to go wrong.
You have all those fears and apprehensions as a first

(02:38):
time parent, but as a grandparent you've gone through that
and you know that pretty much the baby is indestructible
to some degree. The human body is an amazing thing.
And I've just been able to enjoy holding her and
looking at her. And the other thing you forget is
and I think this is true when the baby is

(02:59):
connected to you in some way. But baby smell good,
and it's just a It's a nice, pleasant experience, at
least so far, and I'm sure it will be and
it's certainly a special time. We've had a great week
and I'm sure there are many great weeks to come.

Speaker 2 (03:18):
Well, congratulations, very very good news. All right, let's get
to the news that we have to share. So we
kind of had the robodope. This is still being quite intriguing.
The second car for hun goes holloing and racing. Ultimately,
I still think we were accurate to say this is
in question. But I've said all along, I still think

(03:40):
that Stingray is going to end up in the car
because he is going to be their best option. And
that's what I deduced from this, they confirmed that Stingray
Rob will complete their lineup, joining Rena's VK.

Speaker 3 (03:51):
Earlier this week.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
And good on Peter Rothy for taking care of his
client and speaking with confidence throughout that this was just
a matter of time and it was going to be confirmed.
But to me, I still stand with because we had
no comment from anywhere that who goes Hollinger essentially had

(04:14):
to seat open forbid, and they determined once again that
Stingray was their best option. So he gets to race
in that car and in that seat for another season, you.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
Know, and I think the best thing for Stingray. And
we can all look back at results over the last
three three seasons for Stingray and we can say, you know,
assess and critique and so forth. But this will be
the first time he's raced with the same team a
second year, and I think that's that's something to keep

(04:46):
in mind if the results continue to be where they
have been, particularly the last you know, well really all
three years. But I think if he shows pri progress
in year two with the same team, that's positive. And
I think, you know, it's the same thing with athletes

(05:06):
and other sports. You bounce around between different coaches, different
offensive coordinators. Pick your filler, but I think consistency is
something that really helps an athlete. Now, is it the team,
is it the driver, is the combination? It's hard to
say for us on the outside, But I am glad

(05:27):
that StingRay's going to get a legitimate shot with this
second season with the same team. So let's see how
that goes.

Speaker 2 (05:34):
I'm happy for Stingray. I too want to see what
he can do in a second season. I also think
the program is continuing to move forward. I think Connor
daily helped them significantly, especially on the ovals. In the
combination of Connor and Calum Ilot and others in the
last few years, they're going to be better than they
were in twenty four and in twenty five, and we'll

(05:58):
see what they have in six. So that's that's a
super positive situation. Unfortunately for Connor, not so positive about
ten minutes afterward, you know, he kind of put his
resume out there to kind of remind everybody, hey, I've
done pretty well with this and now we wait to
see if there's any option for him. There is one

(06:20):
seat remaining. It's a dale Coin racing seat that we
have no idea what is going to be needed there.
Is it one hundred percent based on budget or is
it a combination? It usually is, And there are quite
a few candidates in play for that, and I would
think Connor is one of them.

Speaker 1 (06:38):
Yeah, I think Connor would be one of them. You know,
he's I think certainly he's going to have a great
seat for the Indy five hundred, or at least a
seat for the Indy five hundred home. And you know,
somebody who wants to do well in the ovals would
be well to think of Connor. You know, Connor and
Dale Coin they know each other, so Dale knows what

(06:58):
what he would be getting with Connor. And and I mean,
I think you'd have to be a strong candidate, but
I also believe that there is probably money out there
that that might even surpass Connors. So we'll have to
see if that. You know, it's always a risk versus reward,
and you know what you the person you know and

(07:20):
the and you know the goods that you're getting, so
to speak. So Dale's a smart guy and I think
Dale will make the right decision for their team. Obviously,
most of us would would like to see Connor continue
to get an opportunity. But if we're being honest, Connor's
had a lot of opportunities. Let's maybe it's time for
somebody else to have that opportunity. I wouldn't blame anybody's

(07:44):
decision for that, and we'll see where it ends up.

Speaker 2 (07:48):
Well, that's the challenge for a driver that has had
some chances before, is that upside no matter the sport.
We're not just talking motorsports, we're talking any sport. It's
why teams will trade someone that is established for a
draft pick, because well, that draft pick is unknown. We
don't know what it might be, and we might turn
out to find Tony Parker drafted twenty seventh by the

(08:09):
San Antonio Spurs or whatever he was, it turns out
to be a Hall of Famer. So that's, you know,
kind of the challenge for someone that has had results
and has a resume.

Speaker 3 (08:21):
But a young driver, a really young driver that.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
Has unknown potential is someone that's that's interesting.

Speaker 3 (08:30):
This is from Michael J. Smith. I know we were
told today, but the Dale.

Speaker 2 (08:34):
Coin specify which year he would make that second driver announcement.

Speaker 3 (08:38):
See promised Calloween and it was Thanksgiving.

Speaker 2 (08:41):
But he did even hedge in that racer story is
that maybe not Thanksgiving but mid December. So we're pushing
mid December. And with dale Coin, you just never know,
because he's not just waiting for the phone to ring
Dale as much as any owner that I talked to,
he knows the lay of the land.

Speaker 3 (09:02):
He knows.

Speaker 2 (09:03):
You know, these drivers that you and I are not
familiar with at all in F two, Dale knows them,
and he's evaluating talent, and you're looking to see.

Speaker 3 (09:13):
Can I find my net.

Speaker 2 (09:14):
Look look at all of the drivers in the IndyCar
that came from F two, and some did not have
exceptional resumes. So they're drivers out there that are realizing
that I'm not getting to F one, but I still
have three four, maybe more million dollars available of budget
and some talent to bring with it. And then the

(09:36):
other name that a lot of people think could be
coming here and are rooting for because he's interesting and
I think we just want to hear the radio transmissions
is Yuki Sonoda, who is notified that he's not coming
back to Red Bull.

Speaker 3 (09:48):
And while I'm.

Speaker 2 (09:50):
Sure that's possible, I don't gather that that is happening,
and I don't think that is in the plans right
now at all one, and he was announced as a
reserve and test driver, so he's going to have conflicts.

Speaker 3 (10:04):
But I don't think that was the plan.

Speaker 2 (10:06):
I think he just learned last week he's out, was
given an option to stay on, and I think he's
still holding out hopes.

Speaker 3 (10:13):
For F one.

Speaker 2 (10:14):
So I will be surprised if Yuki Sanoda is driving
an IndyCar in twenty twenty six.

Speaker 1 (10:20):
I agree with you, there's just too much the dale
Coin influence in here, and if there is, if there's
a surprise to be had, Dale's capable of delivering it.
You know, there's countless examples over the years of drivers
who got started with Dale. Which team owner took a
chance on a guy named Alex Polo, that was dale Coin,

(10:42):
That was dale Coin, and that year his two drivers
in twenty twenty Alex Polo and Santino Ferrucci. Pretty good,
pretty good scouting on behalf of DC.

Speaker 2 (10:55):
I think there still could be a surprise, but I
just don't think it's going to be I think it's
going to be someone that pays close attention, can probably
pinpoint and guests to make. But there's going to be
somebody or at least. I think at this point Dale
knows he has the only seats. You know, he could
sign Connor daily right now. I think Connor is the

(11:16):
best available option that is out there when you combine
talent and available budget. Connor has been great about representing
partners and providing return and raising budget.

Speaker 3 (11:28):
He doesn't have.

Speaker 2 (11:28):
A full I doubt at least a full eight to
ten million dollars the teams would like to have, but
he probably has more than most right now. But other
than he's going to be faced with. For example, what
if Dryan rein Bold is saying, hey, we need to
know if you want this second Andy five hundred seat.
Connor gambled on himself this time last year and said

(11:51):
no thanks and got a full time seat with Junkos Hollinger.

Speaker 3 (11:55):
Is he going to be willing to do that again.
I don't know if he is.

Speaker 2 (11:58):
Their first choice with Ryan Ryan Bold, but it certainly
would make a lot of sense that he would be
who else, you know, Grojan I don't get the sense
that that's likely. I think if that was going to happen,
it probably already would have. Is Jacob Abel still in
play with Dale Coin Racing? He just signed an Asian
Lamont Series deal, which does not conflict with Indy Car.

(12:21):
That's a Winner series, it's a short championship. Nolan Siegel's
also going to run in that championship. There are other
drivers that we know that run that championship. I think
James Rowe Indie next drivers running that championship. You could
do both. What we don't know is did Jacob have
to bring budget to that or was he hired for that.
If he's hired for that, or brought small budget because

(12:43):
of his talent, and I've not heard of either of
his two teammates, so I suspect they're bringing some budget,
you know, maybe he's still in play. I would think
Jacob is definitely still in play for the Indy five
hundred and could still be in play for the coin seat.
And then there are others if they don't need budget,
like Lean it's lunk with Toby Sowary has a little bit.

(13:03):
What if dale Con has budget and he wants to
see what happens with Premo.

Speaker 3 (13:09):
We still don't know what's happening with Prema.

Speaker 2 (13:11):
I've heard that Robert Schwartzman at least was in town
for medical testing this week. So you know that is
optimistic that there's still a chance. But what if that
doesn't happen, and you say, I want Calumilot on my
team next year and I'm just going to hire him.

Speaker 3 (13:30):
So those are some of the questions that I have.

Speaker 1 (13:32):
Still, the only thing I would say about Schwartzman's participation
in the test the physical is that I've heard many
drivers say I want to get that physical. It's a
free physical and you might as well get it. So
you know, that doesn't necessarily tell me that Prema is
one way or the other. Maybe you just go ahead

(13:52):
and do it because it's good for you and it's
it gets you ready just in case. The question I
really have though, I mean, we don't need to go
down the complete rabbit hole. But there aren't a lot
of options, not just for full season seats. There's one
of those available depending on what PREMA does, but there
really is only I can only find a couple other

(14:15):
possibilities for the Indy five hundred. So if if Connor's
his options are slim, the.

Speaker 2 (14:24):
Seats for the Indy five hundred that are available will
be Andretti and that's the big one. And a lot
of us think it's cold and Hurda. But I don't
know that it's cold and Hurda. I have zero sourcing
on that. That's just common sense. But it's possible that
they have said nope, his focus is mostly Formula one.

(14:45):
The reason I think it still makes a lot of
sense because if he's going to do three sports car races,
then I would think you'd be open to him doing
what he's already very comfortable with in the Indy five hundred.

Speaker 3 (14:56):
And I think that's good for the brand, it's good for.

Speaker 2 (15:01):
The team for TWG, and it's good for Cadillac if
they could interest his rookie year whenever that is an
F one as an ND five hundred winner, and and
he has the possibility of doing that with that team.
But what if they said, nope, we're not going to
do that, and we'd also like to collect some budget. Well,
Connor Daily could bring budget to that seat. We still

(15:22):
need to know about Takumisato. Is he back with Ray Hall,
Edterman Lanagan And if not, then I think the only
reason he wouldn't come back is if he is going
to go to Andretti. But we still need that confirmed.
Elio Castroneves has not been confirmed, but I would say
that's ninety nine percent in my mind. So I just
think that's happening from everything I've heard.

Speaker 3 (15:44):
I also was on a list for.

Speaker 2 (15:49):
A charity benefit and they're listing Elio as one of
their three to five hundred drivers. So that's that could
always change. That's not like a confirmation of it, but
I just think that that's going to happen for next year.
So what else has left, Well, we haven't Dryan Rhinbold, right,
it really is Dryan Reinbold again like Elie.

Speaker 1 (16:10):
Oh, I think the other one that we just I
need to hear it. Until I don't hear it is
Ed Carpenter continuing in the five hundred. I assume he
is unless he said it and I missed it. But
I'm still I'd still like to hear Ed say I'm
doing it again.

Speaker 3 (16:28):
Okay, once you text him and ask him.

Speaker 1 (16:29):
I should. He probably listened to the show and he
drive it down the road and keep your hands on
the wheel, Ed. But I send me a text.

Speaker 3 (16:36):
I believe he's doing the D five hundred.

Speaker 2 (16:40):
Now at some point he's not going to be doing
the ND five hundred, and he reserves the right to
change his mind. So I guess you're right that we
always do like shiny announcements for those kind of things.
But I will be very surprised if Ed is not
doing the D five hundred for next year. Ganathy could
run a force And here's where it gets interesting. If

(17:01):
Prema does go away, then Foy needs to run a third,
or Danasi needs to run a fourth, or Cooin needs
to run a third or somebody like that. They would
need to come up with an extra car just to
get to thirty three. In that circumstance, if Premo runs
both of those cars, then I think we would be
at thirty four as the number four next year. So

(17:24):
those are some of the things from where we stand
for next year for Indy Cars. So there aren't many
questions that remain uncertain for the following season. What else
do we want to get into? Oh I mentioned this.
I was happy to see that will Power is now

(17:45):
going to get a chance to do the Rolex twenty four.
He did the test recently. He did a GT three
car at Indy in the eight hour. He is going
to run in a GT three car for the Rolex
twenty four coming up, and he was meant to do that,
and obviously life or life threatening things got in the way.
With his wife Liz in twenty twenty three, she's much

(18:06):
better now, so he gets a chance to kind of
take one of the boxes off here coming up.

Speaker 1 (18:10):
Yeah, I'm excited for him too, and you know, he's
he's so eager to get back in a race car.
And it's pretty clear if he didn't say so, I
believe he said so that he's been, you know, under
Penske employment until the end of the calendar year, so
he can't he couldn't race anything else this month, so

(18:31):
he's eager to drive something and get in the race car.
And you know, I mean he couldn't drive for his
new team, I guess is the way I should say it,
because he obviously did drive in the ndy eight hour.
This is the same team that he drove the ndy
eight hour for, so so good for him.

Speaker 3 (18:49):
Kenny A Bulls team.

Speaker 2 (18:49):
Kenny A Bull is a very he's one of the
great gentleman drivers. He's a bronze driver. He is a
very successful business person from Australia who's driven in NASCAR
a little bit.

Speaker 3 (19:03):
Is a really fast bronze driver.

Speaker 2 (19:05):
And they actually run a pro program, a GTD pro program,
and he's got Kenny as a good AM teammate, and
then two other really fast pro teammates, Chas Mostert, who
just won the Supercar Championship over the weekend, and Mario Ingle,
who's a factory driver for Mercedes. So he'll be in
a Mercedes AMG GT three, which is the same thing

(19:27):
that he drove at the ND eight.

Speaker 1 (19:28):
Hour yep, yep, So good for him. Excited for that.
Gives you another reason to watch that great race.

Speaker 2 (19:35):
I don't know what this means, and it was vague information,
but still on the Prima front, the group that owns
Premo also owns the Iron Dames sports car program and
Iron Links before and they announced that Iron Dames is
not going to be in the entry list for Portia,
but they did not specifically say that they were totally

(19:58):
done running.

Speaker 3 (19:59):
So I don't know what that is and what that means.

Speaker 2 (20:03):
It's kind of a cryptic release that the sports car
world doesn't really know what they're doing. And you know,
if we don't know what's happening, how do the employees feel.
So I hope for the best and I hope they
find a Hail Mary and the budget that can keep
them on the grid to see what they can do,
because they were you win the pole for the night

(20:24):
five hundred and by the second half of the season, Schwartzman.

Speaker 3 (20:28):
And eye Lot were pretty strong.

Speaker 2 (20:30):
They had some pretty good results, especially eye Lot towards
the end of the season. So I'd love to see
them come back for year number two. Interesting personalities, really
talented drivers. So that's one of the things that we
still need to know at this point.

Speaker 1 (20:43):
Yeah, I don't know to make heads or tails of it.
You kind of get the sense that maybe it really
truly is fifty to fifty at this point. But I've
asked a couple of people internally and it seems like
Indie current officials are waiting on the same answers that
were waiting on. So we'll see what happens.

Speaker 2 (21:02):
Well, I'm going to guess the people that are working
there don't know. They're just holding out hope as well.
And it's people above their pay grade, and it's can
we find the budget to run the race cars and
continue on for the foreseeable future. So that's something you know,
we're talking about towards the end of the year.

Speaker 3 (21:21):
What still needs to be.

Speaker 2 (21:24):
Learned, and this kind of goes back to the Yuki
Sanota thing. One reason that I would be super excited
if he were going to run is that would lead
me to believe that Honda is in for the long term.
Right sure, I don't see why he'd be running next
year if Honda was not committed. Now they're going to

(21:45):
be here no matter what in twenty twenty six. So
maybe they are not related. But that's what we still
need to learn. And I really thought we would know
by now one way or the other what is going
to happen. And from everything I understand, you know they're
in Formula One, they're in major sports car racing in

(22:07):
America and IMSA and they will do no more than
one more program. And I think there have been reports
about NASCAR they won't do both. It's possible they do neither,
but they certainly will do not do both. So I
think they're picking and choosing between continuing in IndyCar and

(22:28):
starting a NASCAR program, which is something where you I
think have to start out in the Craftsman Truck Series
and do that for a bit before you can get
into the Cup Series.

Speaker 3 (22:38):
And that's a major, major investment.

Speaker 1 (22:40):
So the question you pose is exactly the question we've
roundtabled about on IndyCar dot com today. And so if
you actually that was yesterday, was that today or yesterday?
I've lost track of my days. I was in a
retreat all day today, a company retreat. I guess that
was yesterday. The point is, the other element that I
think we're all still, at least within the sport eager

(23:01):
to find out, is just what is the structure of
the new officiating regime? You know, what does that look like?
You know how much FIA influence doesn't have, you know,
does it Just what does it look like? And how
does it.

Speaker 3 (23:19):
Ye phil?

Speaker 1 (23:20):
How does it follow what Doug Bowle spoke of of
trying to create that barrier between officiating and competition. So
you know, I know there's been movement on it. The
drivers were in town, as you mentioned this week. They
had a meeting with Indie Car yesterday. I know they
were briefed on the progress. I have not spoke to

(23:41):
any of the drivers too, and I don't know if
they would share it with us about you know, leaking
the information. I think we'll hear about it soon, but
I don't think I don't think there's been a whole
lot of public information yet distributed.

Speaker 2 (23:58):
I feel like I read something month or two ago
from Marshall Prood on racer dot com, so you can
confirm there's been no announcement from IndyCar correct.

Speaker 1 (24:06):
Correct, correct.

Speaker 3 (24:07):
So I thought he.

Speaker 2 (24:08):
I don't know if it was sourcing or if he
had quotes from Doug Bowls, But I thought what I
recall reading out of that, And I think the reason
I didn't bring it up because it didn't really seem
like there was anything super significant. But I thought it
was reported that it would not be outsourced, correct.

Speaker 3 (24:31):
You know, I get the.

Speaker 2 (24:32):
Reporting is so we get it'll need a little more
details on what is going to be different from the
way it has been.

Speaker 1 (24:39):
I think it'll be different. I mean, I've you know,
sat around the water cooler, if you will, and tried
to discern some bit of structure and context and so forth.
I don't think it's going to be FII you know,
operated yeah, you know, that would be totally outsourced. I
don't think that's the way it's going to go. It

(24:59):
probably is a bl end of the situations, but I
do think you'll see a firewall, if you will, between
competition and officiating, and that ultimately, you know, people are
always going to have questions when Team Penski is involved.
I just don't see any other way. People are always

(25:19):
going to ask the question is this pro or con
for helping or hurting Team Penske when it comes to
a decision made off officiating. I just don't see another way.
But you just try to build up enough. Again, A
firewall is the word I can come up with that
would that would help alleviate some of that those questions

(25:44):
that come up.

Speaker 2 (25:46):
Something I just you mentioned something posted on social something else.
It's all posted on social today that I want to see.
And I don't think we ever got into this. When
they were smoothing out the bump and turned who you know,
they went down and looked at some bricks remaining from
nineteen oh nine and nineteen eleven, and they were savvy

(26:09):
on this that hey, let's make sure we have a
video crew out here. And I saw some clips of
Donald Davidson out there talking about, you know, just reliving
that history. So I'm looking forward to seeing that YouTube
special that IMS has produced about the bricks and crushed.

Speaker 3 (26:23):
Hard that we got to look at, you know, literally.

Speaker 2 (26:25):
Over a century of history that they uncovered here in
the last couple of months.

Speaker 1 (26:30):
So that's a four part series. I should have looked
to see what day that starts, but it will be
fascinating to watch. I've not seen it. I've certainly talked
to the people who put it together, and I know
it's good content, great content, stuff that you and I
and our many listeners will really enjoy. It is history.

(26:50):
It is something that you know, no other sports league
or sports venue, let alone a racetrack can have this
kind of moment to dig up something that's really gets
to the essence of what the brickyard is all about.
So it's it's very cool.

Speaker 2 (27:08):
Coming up next, something else I forgot to talk about
last week, as I've had a chance to look at
the new exhibit at the IMS Museum. We'll speak to
that and get to Twitter questions via x. Coming up
at Kevin Lee twenty three at Kurk Cavin. Can you
hear the race cars in the background, Kurt just door
just faintly, so floggably live.

Speaker 3 (27:26):
You'll hear them a little bit louder at this point.

Speaker 2 (27:29):
There's a roller coaster here now at Circle of the
America's multiple roller coasters that they're building at this point,
So we'll maybe get into that before we're done if
we have time. We got the more stuff we got
to cover, we'll do that next On track side, Hi, this.

Speaker 1 (27:43):
Is Rene speak and you're listening to trek Size.

Speaker 2 (27:45):
It's tracks ie ninety three to five, one oh seven
five the fan in Indianapolis. Before I forget, next week's
show is back to Tuesday, so next Tuesday, so we'll
have a short turnaround.

Speaker 3 (27:57):
Still one more, Kurt.

Speaker 2 (27:59):
I feel like all is right in the world because
dale Coin Racing has re established control.

Speaker 3 (28:05):
Of TBA TBD. Correct, that's right. I have that for
a few.

Speaker 1 (28:10):
Years, and there was nobody more excited to get StingRay's
announcement made outside of Stingray and Peter Rossi than dale Coin,
whose value on that seat just went up.

Speaker 2 (28:21):
And the quote I thought of with Stingray as we
all wondered about them putting up a TBA on the
Hukohs Hollinger website and wondering what's going on here at
this point, the Stingray should have just posted Rumors of
my demise were greatly exaggerated, quoting who literary people who.

Speaker 1 (28:41):
Yeah. Yeah, the other thing is.

Speaker 3 (28:43):
About stain Mark Wayne, come on quite along?

Speaker 1 (28:46):
Oh sorry, Yeah. StingRay's such a good guy. He's such
a good spirit, he's he really is somebody to cheer for.
I hope his results in year two earn him a seat,
you know, moving forward, regardless of what's series it's in.
But he's such a good personality and just a person
you could enjoy being around. So if you haven't really

(29:07):
been around him, he's somebody you can root for.

Speaker 2 (29:09):
Oh, by the way, you know, I know I said
this presuming that it was announced as a multi year contract.
So what's going on? So I did a Google search
last week and I couldn't find anything that announced it
last year as a multi year deal. So from that standpoint,

(29:33):
you know this it just depended on who you ask.
And the reason we were speaking about it being a
multi year deal is I think we all that we're kind.

Speaker 3 (29:43):
Of digging into this. We're asking around.

Speaker 2 (29:45):
And when I was doing my silly season list for
Fox in August, I asked Peter Ross. He said, Hey,
I'm making a list of open seats free agent drivers.
Should Stingray be on the list? And he said no,
he has a multi year contract, so that's where information
was from, But the team never did announce at the

(30:05):
end of twenty twenty four that Stingray had agreed to
a multi year contract.

Speaker 3 (30:10):
So what it's really.

Speaker 2 (30:11):
Sounding like is it was probably a multi year contract,
but there are clauses and incentives, and it certainly looks
like it at least was opened up to some extents
and they considered other options and came to the conclusion
Stingray is our best option, all things considered. So we
talked about that at the beginning of the show and

(30:32):
we're happy about that. There's a new exhibit at the
IMS Museum. I had a chance to see last week
because my picture was on the wall and so I
wanted to see that.

Speaker 3 (30:42):
Now.

Speaker 2 (30:42):
Understandably, I am only included in the now Stay Tuned
exhibit because I'm one of the current announcers. I've had
a few questions, Hey, is so and so up there,
so and so.

Speaker 3 (30:52):
No.

Speaker 2 (30:52):
Unfortunately, there are many broadcasters that have much longer and
more impactful careers in Indianapolis five hundred broadcasting than people
like me.

Speaker 3 (31:05):
But there's just too many.

Speaker 2 (31:07):
But I will say this, it's more than I expected,
and that's what Jamie Little and I both said when
we went and visited it together, and Paul Page was there,
Mark James was there, Georgia Henneberry from the Fox crew
was there. We kind of thought this was going to
be like a wall or a closet or something like this,
but this is the same area down below where they

(31:28):
had the four time winners exhibit last year. So this
is what three rooms. It's really cool. It's going to
be up until June. I would highly recommend it.

Speaker 1 (31:40):
I haven't seen it yet, and I'll get over there.
I think I actually saw my photo over there. You
probably didn't notice it, but what I thought was really
cool and I appreciate that they did this. There's a
section on the main level, I believe where they have
newspaper clipping newspaper or front pages of past races and

(32:04):
uh so that was really cool just to see some
different years. I think they were all the Penske years,
perhaps Penske Championship years.

Speaker 2 (32:13):
Yeah, I've seen you and Robbing and any of the
other days. It's just really cool from all of the
Penske winners that's been up there for a year that.

Speaker 1 (32:21):
Yeah, I just didn't know if you had. Oh yeah,
and by the way, I'm not gloating or something. That
was just my job and that's where they put my
Some of my best stories were never on the cover
of those those newspapers. But but I really, you know,
it's such a it did such a good job at
this museum. I mean, this is just a little throwaway

(32:42):
our parts, but it's just really cool what they've done.
I see see Jason, you know, and the team, and
I'm just so so proud of the work they did.
You know, we had I had such high expectations for
what a museum could be. I just never thought they'd
get there. I just didn't know if that, if the
right karmo was going to come together to make it

(33:05):
a great museum. That's a great museum, and so good
on them. And it's more than just a museum. It's
a wonderful entertainment space too, yeah, to do for corporations
to host guests and everything else.

Speaker 2 (33:20):
There's also a I think it's called setting the pace.
There's eight or nine pace cars, historical pace cars that
are down where the NASCAR cars were for the brickyard
four hundred down the basement, so lots of cool stuff.
Both of those exhibits will be there until June. Let's
get to some questions via the xbox. We announced last

(33:42):
week the Burger batches coming back next year, moving to
the weekend Thursday at the USAC Building Thursday of nighty
five hundred week in. Rick Johnson says moving to Thursday
is great, but last time there were no chairs to
fit unlike the ninety six Street Stake Burger setup, so
you had to stand for three or four hours.

Speaker 3 (34:00):
There were only.

Speaker 2 (34:01):
Chairs for wealthy VIPs or locals who could bring chairs.
Will they beat chairs in twenty twenty six? Can somebody
bring Rick a chair? Did we have chairs at ninety
sixth Street? I think Rick might have just sat in
somebody's chair when they got up and they were too
polite to correct him.

Speaker 1 (34:17):
No, we had chairs.

Speaker 3 (34:18):
We had okas, Now we need a chare sponsor.

Speaker 1 (34:21):
Did we have five hundred chairs? I can't remember what
the total was, but we had chairs.

Speaker 2 (34:26):
Okay, we need a chair sponsor so Rick can have
a seat for next year, and just some hoosier says,
I'll only show a cluster truck brings back to Connerberger. Oh,
so that is a negotiation between Cluster Truck and Connor daily,
so we are optimistic for that.

Speaker 3 (34:43):
I can tell you Cluster Truck has.

Speaker 2 (34:45):
Already confirmed they will be involved once again, so that's
very very positive news. Indy car Ken, I think he
asked this a few weeks ago to is a date
for the April twenty twenty six IMS oval test been
announced or someone else did.

Speaker 3 (34:58):
They have not announced it, but we've told you we
think it'll be in late April.

Speaker 2 (35:02):
So they usually don't announce these until March ish something
like that, but somebody.

Speaker 3 (35:08):
Will leak it at some points. Yeah, it we'll be
Kirk Cavin.

Speaker 1 (35:11):
It will not be me. It does start with it two,
so it'll be after Long Beach, but I don't I
actually can't remember the exact date. But it's deep in
the month of April, and you'll have plenty of advanced notice.
It's not like you got to buy a ticket in advance,
so it'll happen.

Speaker 2 (35:28):
Well, unless it's thirty three degrees in raining, then it'll
happen the next day or the day after.

Speaker 1 (35:33):
It will happen after dale Coin announces as second driver.

Speaker 2 (35:38):
Barely leg IV twenty twenty five says or asks chances
of Richmond getting bought by Roger.

Speaker 3 (35:45):
Is there some rumor out there I'm not aware of.

Speaker 1 (35:48):
I've not seen that. I just don't think. I think
there is interest. I know there's interest in getting back
to the eastern part of the country on behalf of
Penske Entertainment. I just don't know if like New Hampshire
and Richmond, I don't know if that's where that's where
it would be some.

Speaker 2 (36:06):
I think all of those things are possible, but chances
of him buying it, I would think are slim to none.
I would think Penske Entertainment has enough going on. I
would be shocked to find out if they are interested
in purchasing a racetrack.

Speaker 1 (36:21):
Yeah, it doesn't seem like they're mo at this point. Yeah,
to be great.

Speaker 2 (36:25):
I'd love it if it happened, that'd be wonderful, but
it would really surprise me. That said, sometimes things happen
that are really surprising. So maybe Doug knows something that
some of the rest of us don't know. At this point,
Lynn asked if the amazing Gary Gerald made the exhibit.
He may have been in there. I didn't notice Gary,

(36:46):
but that was part of There are a lot of
people that don't have specific sections that probably deserve some.

Speaker 3 (36:54):
There are a lot of very.

Speaker 2 (36:57):
Well known and rod casters that made major contributions, and
there's only so much space available. Lynn also wondered where
the picture that I think I posted where were Will
Buxton and Jack Harvey. Will remember Jack Harvey was not
a part of the Indy five hundred broadcast officially. He
was doing cool things like driving in the race, and

(37:18):
Will had his own section, So Will definitely had a
picture up there of himself as just was on the
other side. The Cincy Buckeye says this is probably a
question for Kurt. The whole inside of the front stretch
at IMMS had been basically rebuilt over the last twenty
five years. Are the stands on the outside off limits
or could we see those rebuilt and modernized one day

(37:41):
with better site lines?

Speaker 1 (37:43):
So is the question about the seats on the outside
of the on the racetrack? Is it possible?

Speaker 2 (37:49):
So yeah, like, could they you know, Georgetown Road really
no longer as a road? Could they do something and
move that back? Or I suppose something different with those stamps.

Speaker 1 (38:03):
I suppose they could. I guess I'd be surprised. The
structure is what the structure is. And you know, I
am kind of amazed there's some seats and some of
my closest friends have seats down low right through there,
and I just don't know what the allure of the
seat is. I guess it's seeing pre race and being

(38:24):
close to the action and right by the flag stand,
et cetera, et cetera. But I'd want to set a
little higher, But I don't think. I think that's a
challenge to to kind of rework that.

Speaker 2 (38:35):
It's something, you know, be akin to what Daytona did,
and they did their project whatever it was, ten years ago.
You'd basically be tearing it down and starting over. That
would be a major, major undertaking to do. And I
don't see how you could get something like that done
from one race to the next race, even if you

(38:55):
didn't worry about the brickyard, you know, in eleven months.
I don't see how that gets done agreed. And it
would be massively expensive, and I don't know that it's necessary. Honestly,
you'd have to.

Speaker 1 (39:06):
And the other thing is, because of the dimension of
the racetrack, you would have to do it all because
you there would be parts of the grandstands if they left,
let's say, down there near turn four, you'd have to
take that out too, or your sightline is non existent.

Speaker 3 (39:23):
Yeah, so that would be a big one.

Speaker 2 (39:24):
So yeah, never say never, but I'd be surprised if
anything like that is happening in the near term.

Speaker 1 (39:29):
It's not happening in the near term.

Speaker 2 (39:32):
I can tell you that Cam Soube's fl says, I
hope they're working on this year's Carb Day bands. I
see a lot of them already have posted their tour
schedules for next year.

Speaker 3 (39:41):
I'm sure they're working on that.

Speaker 2 (39:43):
They may already have it kind of narrowed down, they
may already have signed.

Speaker 1 (39:47):
I don't know about signed, but it's certainly that's you know,
filling out the entertainment and the you know, just all
the things that go into a month of May that
that's so far play and out. They're already thinking about
twenty twenty seven and what that looks like. So you know,
keep in mind that people are forethinking all the time.

(40:10):
I heard a lot of great things about IndyCar Weekend
at the Speedway Memorial Day Weekend today during the retreat,
and let me just tell you, it's exciting stuff. I'm
so excited to see Carbon Day. I mean, there's going
to be new elements, and just the energy around the
race weekend is just unbelievable. I just really I really

(40:34):
appreciate being a part of it. You know, this is
thirty nine years to be working the event this year,
next year, and just it's just so cool.

Speaker 2 (40:45):
I like hearing things about the Indianapolis five hundred on
cold December days, That's right. It kind of helps us
get in the holiday.

Speaker 3 (40:51):
Spirit as well.

Speaker 2 (40:53):
All Right, I don't know where we're at on time,
so we're going to break here and then we'll come
back with what we missed in mourning moment. It tracks
I one oh seven. Hi, this is justin Newgarten and
you're listening to trackside. Okay, final segment. What we missed
If we missed it, I'm still missing it because I
just did a quick check of the Twitter machine and

(41:13):
not seeing anything else. So it reconvene coming up again
next Tuesday. Will we have a dale Coin racing announcement?
My guests will be no, but I'm gonna say this,
I think we will have.

Speaker 3 (41:25):
One before we get to Christmas.

Speaker 2 (41:27):
I think Dale will stay true to his word, not
that it really matters. He doesn't owe us anything, but
I think he's going to have things solved.

Speaker 3 (41:35):
The F one season will be over.

Speaker 2 (41:37):
He'll get to kind of go through that landscape as
where everyone is going to land there and find out
where everyone's at.

Speaker 3 (41:45):
And I think they're going to want.

Speaker 2 (41:46):
To know where things are at before we get to January,
because not much happens between about December twentieth until January second,
So he'd like to have everything buttoned up and then
the racing season will cross one those milestones obstacles getting
as closer to IndyCar season.

Speaker 3 (42:04):
After this weekend, F one will be done.

Speaker 2 (42:06):
Looking forward to watching that and see what happens as
far as the championship. And just because I am, as
we like to say, casually employed right now, I came
with Jackson to the season finale for one of his
side projects. It's been fun this year running in a
series called the World Racing League. It's basically a mini

(42:27):
IMSA for different classes of cars, some very talented drivers.
There are a couple of NASCAR drivers that have been
here throughout the year. There are a lot of regular
ims to drivers. We've had IndyCar drivers and he gets
to help engineer the car and coach other drivers and
get to do some fun things, and he's never been
to CODA.

Speaker 3 (42:46):
Before, so kind of tick one off the box.

Speaker 2 (42:48):
So he'll have fifteen hours of racing on Saturday and
Sunday in two races, and we will talk again next
Tuesday about what's happening in IndyCar. Thanks for joining us tonight.
Landing Koon's our studio producer for Kurt.

Speaker 3 (43:01):
I'm Kevin. Thanks for joining us,
