Merkem, 27 november 2004. Een bloedende man vlucht een woning binnen, op de hielen gezeten door een moordenaar. De man overleeft het niet. De dader blijkt een voortvluchtige oplichter. In zijn woning vinden speurders een raadselachtige brief over nóg een verdwenen man. Acht jaar later ontdekken ze het lichaam van de man in de tuin van de oplichter.
