Investeerder Alexander Ribbink van Keen Venture Partners vond jaren geleden al dat er meer geld moest naar defensie. Hij is zelf gaan investeren en hij heeft nu het tij mee.
Keen Venture Partners is bezig om fondsen op te halen om te investeren in defensiebedrijven, vooral in EU-landen en NAVO-landen. Het sentiment is wat dat betreft wel veranderd. Een paar jaar geleden wat investeren in defensie en wapens 'not done', nu wordt het juist gezien als bittere noodzaak.
Toch vindt co-host Monique Ansink het nog ongemakkelijk. Zij maakt zich zorgen om een wapenwedloop en is bang dat juist zwarte bladzijdes uit onze geschiedenis zich zullen herhalen. Amerika heeft een grote wapenindustrie, dus dat land heeft er juist belang bij om iedereen op te roepen om wapens te kopen, vindt zij.
Zuid-Amerika
Onder invloed van de importheffingen van Donald Trump verandert daarnaast de manier waarop we naar de wereld kijken. Nu de VS een handelsoorlog heeft ontketend zouden we ons meer moeten richten op Zuid-Amerika. Dat vindt tenminste een groot deel van de Tweede Kamer.
Er komt steeds meer steun voor het Mercosur-verdrag, een handelsverdrag tussen de Europese Unie en een aantal de Zuid-Amerikaanse landen. Wytske Postma, Kamerlid voor NSC, legt uit waarom haar partij eerst tegen dit verdrag was, maar er nu toch positief tegenover staat.
