Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's the sound you've waited much to hear. It's caused
some of your greatest triumphs.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Studio, the missing and walk raids.

Speaker 1 (00:12):
And your biggest heartbreaks.

Speaker 3 (00:14):
History made by Apple Lachians days they went on precedented
large and strength national championship.

Speaker 1 (00:21):
It's the option at Georgia Tech.

Speaker 4 (00:23):
It's Howard's rock, the smoke in Miami, and every Saturday
you tap that sign and.

Speaker 1 (00:33):
Apple Lachen status done it again. The weight is over.
College football is here?

Speaker 3 (00:44):
Yo.

Speaker 1 (00:44):
All right?

Speaker 5 (00:45):
Dal Loggins in his first season as Appalachian State head coach.

Speaker 1 (00:49):
What will he do?

Speaker 5 (00:50):
According to the West and Walkers Show, Let's get into it.
They start things off as we talked about Saturday neutral site,
Bank of America Stadium, to be exact, versus the Charlotte
forty nine ers. You know, Charlotte placing a lot of guys.
Connor Harrell will start at quarterback. You heard coach Albin
talking about his team.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
The only thing I want to the only reason I
want to cut you off just for a second. It's
presenting this opportunity. All right, do we not pick this
game yet and save it for tomorrow?

Speaker 1 (01:19):
That's how we ball that. I just I'm just asking if.

Speaker 3 (01:22):
You want to say no, I'd like to get this
out of the way, that's fine, But do we know
we can do it? Do we save it for the
grand gesture live at the doghouse? People are going to
be around us.

Speaker 5 (01:31):
It's a little bit game with that, the ceremony I'm
here for.

Speaker 3 (01:34):
If you're here for, we admit it. Yeah, And then Flounder,
you're running the show from back here, right, You're not
gonna be out there.

Speaker 1 (01:42):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
I'm gonna be ceulstration behind me somewhere. I know that
wherever he is, he can be safe.

Speaker 3 (01:47):
But we can either be applauded and embraced by the
fans that are around us, or we can be ridiculed
and criticized by the pick. But I just thought maybe
the grand gesture of picking that game just hit me
in really all right?

Speaker 1 (01:58):
Cool?

Speaker 5 (01:58):
So we will go to up timber Side sixth now
versus Lyndenwood. So then we'll start off with an easy
peasy Okay, lyndon Wood was five and seven last year.
I can't even refront. I had never even heard of Lyndenwood. Okay,
but they lost last year forty eight to three. To Kansas,
and I think this will be more of the same.
APP State gets in easey does.

Speaker 3 (02:20):
Yeah, I'm not going to provide a whole lot more
analysis here. App State gets the win against lynden Wood,
a school that you said you'd never heard of before.

Speaker 2 (02:28):
Linden Wood.

Speaker 4 (02:29):
The fact that they actually, you know, only got beat
by forty five by Kansas makes me wonder if this
game will be a little bit closer.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
But yeah, App State, you.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
Know how that happens. Flounder forty eight to three.

Speaker 5 (02:41):
That means you jump way out on them early and
coach calls off the dogs and say we're gonna run
the ball the rest of the game. That's why you
get forty eight. That's the case for app That's how
you get forty eight to three. And I know that
because the Miami Hurricanes did it to us when we
came down to corl Gables.

Speaker 1 (02:55):
They jumped on us.

Speaker 5 (02:56):
Real good at the beginning and ran the ball the
rest of the game to keep the score respectable. And
I guess they wanted to be respectful in their own
right all right. September thirteenth, at Southern miss former Marshall
head coach Charles Hoff is now the head coach of
Southern Miss. Why is this important because he pretty much

(03:16):
bought the whole damn program with him. Okay, they have
transfers all over this roster from Marshall. App has lost
two of three to Southern Miss in their last three contests.
Southern Miss was one and eleven last year, but they
returned eleven starters. They only scored fifteen points a game
last year and gave up thirty eight. But they're one

(03:37):
of two teams since twenty nineteen with ten more interceptions
than touchdowns last season when you're talking the passing game.
But as I said, coach Charles Huff brought over pretty
much the whole program. Brayln Braxton he brings over from Marshall.
He will start at quarterback. He was eight and one
as the start of nineteen to two touchdown the interception ratio.

(03:57):
Jeffrey Pittman is expected to be one of them the
best running backs in the Sun Belt. They lost their
top three transfers and added five transfers from Marshall and
one from Old Miss. In the receiving corps. One starter
returns on the offensive line for Marshall. Transfers will help
the defensive line. Sophomore Chris Jones leads the linebackers, and
six Marshall transfers will try to boast the defensive backfield.

(04:22):
I think that this will be a much improved Southern
Miss team. Charles Huff I think will light a program
like this program on fire and bring them a spark
that they were missing. And for that reason, I think
that app State loses to Southern Miss.

Speaker 3 (04:38):
I mean, you talk about eight mile in it. You
did just run down the list to some of the
guys coming over.

Speaker 1 (04:43):
But you are right.

Speaker 3 (04:44):
It was the point I was going to make, and
that everything is new. The good news for them is
that everything should be new. Offensively, they were one of
the worst teams at converting on third downs last year.
That's a great tell all stat If you see a
team that is one of the worst in the country
at converting on third down, no matter what level of
football you're discussing, they're probably awful. So they have a
completely revamped offense. They absolutely should. Anytime you do some

(05:07):
research on them, you say their defense wasn't terrible terrible
last year. They were still bad, but they weren't terrible.
I do think that this is going to be a
program on the rise at the same time, they're dealing
with a bunch of new just like app State is.
I think familiarity will be a nice enough advantage against
app State for those types of programs. Southern Miss is
not one of those types of programs right now. The

(05:28):
Mountaineers get the dub.

Speaker 4 (05:30):
Yeah, there's a lot that has to change for Southern
Miss to.

Speaker 2 (05:33):
Go from a one to eleven team to be what.

Speaker 4 (05:36):
Charles Huff and Marshall was last year as a ten
win football team. I think it's gonna take some time.
They will be better this year, but I think sad
I think if you're app State, you catch them at
the right point of the schedule. So I'm going to
go with app State to win this game, but it
could be a pretty close one, especially considering they've lost
to a three to them.

Speaker 5 (05:57):
All right after that got a toughie September twenty seventh.
Off of a bye, they will be at number twenty
five Boise State. These are the two winnings group of
five schools of the last decade. APP is one and
two all time versus the Mountain West. Boise State went
twelve and two last season thirteen starters are back. They're
going to replace Ashton Gent by committee. Maddox Madsen was

(06:20):
third team All Mountain West last year. They're supposed to
have the best offensive line in the Mountain West and
also to the defense should be pretty good as well.
Jaden virgin Morgan was first team All mount West on
the d line. Linebacker is a little bit of concern,
and then they return their top tackler in safety, Todd Benningfield,
and they have experienced and good transfers that will man

(06:43):
the defensive backfield. I say all that to say app
takes a big l in this one and catches.

Speaker 1 (06:49):
A beat down in Noise. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (06:51):
I want to pick App State in games like this
on the road, not a whole lot of people considering
them a real winner. Boise State will play Notre Dame
the following week. That's their first real test. It's South Florida,
Eastern Washington Air Force, then App State. There's some decent
teams in there. South Florida, They're only a five and
a half point favorite on the road against That game

(07:12):
is gonna be ESPN kicked, by the way. I just
feel like there could be some things that help App
State out a little bit. This is not the app
State that I've watched over the last decade, not now.
A lot of stuff is new. Usually, the Mountaineers are
a program that can transition from one coach to the
other quite well. I haven't seen it in a situation

(07:33):
where coach got fired right like, and if they did
get fired, it was because Jerry Moore was at the
tail end of his legendary career. So we haven't seen
it like this. I'm with you, Wes all that to say,
I think Boise State is going.

Speaker 1 (07:46):
To be too much for all the reasons you stated.

Speaker 4 (07:48):
This is a Boise State ass whooping that's coming said
the way of the Mountaineers. I mean, look, you bring
back Maddox Madson at quarterback. He was pretty good last year.
There'll be more on his shoulders this year. You return,
you know, pretty much your entire offensive line from a
year ago. There are some guys that are stepping up
that may even knock out some of the starters that

(08:09):
may have struggled a bit. This team returns plenty from
the defense that got them to help get them to
the College Football Playoff. This is probably a College Football
Playoff team again this year. App State we thought last year,
didn't we say last year we predicted them to go
like eleven to one.

Speaker 1 (08:26):
Or something like that. Yeah, we did.

Speaker 3 (08:29):
He said, you guys a couple of times, but I
can't blame West because we were very wrong and he
doesn't want to be in this pool of wrongness. So
we were though you and I were on the same pace, right.

Speaker 4 (08:39):
I don't think that app State is anywhere near contending
to make the college football playoff. That's where you would
have to be to be Boise. Boise wins this one
by a lot all right.

Speaker 5 (08:50):
After that, they stayed playing another Power for team. October fourth,
they would take on Oregon State. This is their first
meeting and first home game versus a Pac twelve team,
and they will get Oregon State to come to the Rock.
The last ten meetings with Power four teams, APP is
one and nine. Oregon State was five and seven. Last year.
They bring back eleven. Malik Murphy, the former Duke quarterback,

(09:12):
will be their quarterback this year. He went twenty six
touchdowns to twelve picks last year. They'll be decent at
running back. Lost their top two tight ends, but have
good experience a receiver. They've got one starter back on
the O line, and inexperienced transfers are expected to step
up on the defense. Linebacker they're okay, defensive backfield expected
to be improved. With all of that said, I still

(09:34):
think Oregon State would be a little bit more talented
than this version of the Apple out the State Mountaineers,
and so I think for that reason, Oregon State gets
the victory.

Speaker 1 (09:43):
Yeah, I agree with you.

Speaker 3 (09:45):
It's not necessarily like what we saw from them a
couple of years ago. And they go ten to three,
and then they go eight and five. They were five
and seven in twenty twenty four, So when you think
of Oregon State, it's like, hey man, they're on the rise.
They're doing a nice job, except last year they weren't
both eligible. I do think the Beavers are probably going
to be a little too much for app State. Again,
the kind of conditions that would usually have you pointing

(10:07):
towards the Mountaineers and saying this could be an upset
type of game against the bigger school. Not this time.
I have them going zero to two over a two
week span.

Speaker 4 (10:16):
Yeah, I think they probably lose this game as well.
I mean, look, Oregon State's not great. You said they
were a Power Conference school. I mean, I guess technically
considered it, but but my thing is is they don't
have Power Conference talent anymore. Guys are not willing to
play for a team that's independent basically like they are
right now. I mean, I know they got the agreement

(10:37):
with the Mountain West, but it's very similar.

Speaker 2 (10:39):
To what Notre Dame has in the agreement with.

Speaker 4 (10:41):
The ACC, So the talent gap is not nearly as
big as it would be with other Power Conference schools.
That being said, I still think Oregon State has a
little bit more talent. I think they're going to be
a team that's probably going to be going bowling this year,
and I don't think app State is probably So I'll
go with Oregon State.

Speaker 5 (11:00):
We'll sneak in real quick before the break October eleventh,
they will be at Georgia State. Georgia State brings back
nine from a three to nine football team. APP is
eleven and zero versus Georgia State since they joined the
Sun Belt, and I think that they move on to
twelve and zero and get a victory over Georgia State
at Georgia State.

Speaker 3 (11:17):
There's a reason you tried to squeeze this one in
before we went to the Barn. Yeah, eleven eleven and
zero against Georgia State. That would be a pretty bad
loss for dal Logins to lose some school that you
haven't lost to in the last eleven matchups.

Speaker 1 (11:31):
I don't think it happens. I agree with you. I
think app State.

Speaker 4 (11:33):
Georgia State's probably gonna finish last in this division in
the sun Belt. I believe that app State will be
able to take care of them, even though it's on
the road.

Speaker 5 (11:41):
Coastal Carolina is up now for the Appalachian State Mountaineers
October eighteenth.

Speaker 1 (11:47):
They will be home for this.

Speaker 5 (11:48):
App leads to series seven or four, but they've lost
the last three at home at home versus Coastal. They
are six and one, though Coastal was six and seven
last year.

Speaker 1 (11:56):
They bring back nine.

Speaker 5 (11:57):
They lost their top five running backs, but former NC
State quarterback MJ. Morris will be the quarterback apter coming
over from Maryland. Vetsman receiving corps, and offensive line. Three
starters return on defense, but they bought in nineteen former
starters in the portal. This is going to be a
pretty good game. I like this little rivalry that they

(12:18):
have going on. And I have Coastal Carolina taking the
victory on the road.

Speaker 3 (12:25):
I think this win APP State gets back on the
winning side of things.

Speaker 1 (12:28):
Here.

Speaker 3 (12:28):
I haven't beating Georgia State, but of course we all
expect them to beat Georgia State. This is going to
be the first matchup that Dal Loggins has where I
think you have a fifty to fifty proposition that you
can really well. Okay, you have Charlotte in the opener.
We haven't picked Charlotte, so that's going to be an
important game for both of those schools. Lyndon Wood you're
expected to beat. I think Southern miss you're expected to beat,
and then you're probably expected to lose. Poise State. Oregon

(12:51):
State expected to win Georgia State. Okay, here we are
with Coastal This feels like a defining moment for APP
right here, smack dab in the middle of the season.
How are you going to finish the year with couple
of road games against Old Dominion and James Madison. You
have your rival Georgia Southern coming to town November sixth
on a Thursday. That's always a monster game on the rock.
Pivotal moment here, West I think APP State's gonna realize that,

(13:12):
and I think they're gonna turn I don't even know
if they're gonna turn things around. I think what's gonna
happen is they're gonna build off of the win they
had the previous week against Georgia State, with such a
pivotal matchup.

Speaker 1 (13:22):
They beat the Chanticleers, all right.

Speaker 4 (13:24):
I like how much Coastal Carolina is bringing back. I
do like the fact that they are going with MJ.

Speaker 1 (13:29):
Morris.

Speaker 4 (13:30):
I think that's the right quarterback to go with. And
I think Tim Beck's really starting to find his way
here at Coastal Carolina. I think this is going to
be the year where they are gonna finally get to
a or They got to a bowl game last year,
but this will be the year they finally finished over
five hundred under him. And so for that reason, I
will go with Coastal Carolina, even though it's on the road.

(13:52):
I think I will go with Coastal over app State.

Speaker 3 (13:55):
I heard a lot of Jersey mikes in that take
out of Turkey.

Speaker 4 (14:02):
I don't get Turkey, Dad, that's a question a lot ham,
that's ham and persudo.

Speaker 1 (14:07):
Yep, mm okay, fancy lord. So that's a prosudo opinion. Yeah,
all right.

Speaker 5 (14:12):
October twenty fifth, Old Dominion app leads this series four
to one. Apples won and three in their last four games,
though before a bye, Old Dominion has ten guys coming back.
They went five and seven last year. Colton Joseph, a
decent duel threat quarterback, returns for them. In three offensive linemen.
They're expected to be better at the skill positions. They

(14:33):
may have the Sun Belt's best linebacking corps led by
Jason Henderson, and their top sack man, Chris Trinidad is
back in the secondary though they were depleted by departures.
This is where I think Apple Lata State gets back
on the winning side of things and they.

Speaker 3 (14:49):
Get the victory at Old Dominion. Yeah, I agree with you.
You know, they've lost quite a bit. They were a
good football team in some aspects. They ran the football
quite well. I wonder if app State defensive line, if
they are going to be continuing that running prowess going
into the season. Can the app State defense handle it
nearly as well? With all the new coaching regime, all

(15:11):
the players that they have, they just have something that
they can serve as their identity over there with the Monarchs,
and so that would be the interesting thing for me
to watch in this game. But I agree with you.
I think app State is a better football team. They
seem to be more talented coming into this season. I
do have love for Dow Logins. I think that they
continue they're winning ways in my world, and this will
be a three game winning streak for them. So I

(15:33):
have them get into another victory against the Monarchs.

Speaker 2 (15:35):
I have old dominion in this game.

Speaker 4 (15:37):
I think old dominion the extra year of the extra
year for some of those guys, that the skill positions
will allow them to be better. I know they don't
return a lot on the offensive line, but I think
by this point in the season they'll be fine.

Speaker 2 (15:51):
Colton Joseph solid. But you talked about it.

Speaker 4 (15:53):
Their defense really looks like it's going to be one
of the better ones in the Sun Belt. I think
that's going to be a challenge for this app offense,
which I don't think is necessarily going to be that
great no matter which quarterback they go with.

Speaker 2 (16:05):
So give me the.

Speaker 4 (16:06):
Monarchs to take this one, considering it's in their place
over app State.

Speaker 1 (16:10):
Off of the bye.

Speaker 5 (16:11):
November sixth versus Georgia Southern. GSU was eight and five
last year, and they bring back twelve guys. Head coach
Clay Hilton says this is the best offense he feels
like that he has had it Georgia Southern and they
averaged twenty eight points per game last year. Defense returned
seven guys and they gave up twenty eight points per
game last year. But I think that the Appalachis State

(16:32):
Mountaineers do not keep the winning ways going. Georgia Southern
gets the road victory on the Rock.

Speaker 3 (16:39):
I'm with you, and you've seen Georgia Southern. They got
the win last year, they got the win in twenty
twenty two in double overtime. They've been able to score
on app I think Georgia Southern gets the win here
as well. So after the three game winning streak with
app State, I do expect Georgia Southern to get the
victory in boone Disco Rut.

Speaker 4 (16:57):
Yeah, Georgia Southern's been a thorn in the side of
app State from long time, even when Nappe State has
had some of their better teams. So I think this year,
considering that they are probably going to be a little
bit better than they were.

Speaker 2 (17:08):
Last year, This is an offense.

Speaker 4 (17:10):
That's being talked about as possibly being the best that
Clay Helton's had since he's gotten there. And I think
Clay Hilton's a pretty decent coach. I never thought he
was the problem at USC when he was there. I
think Georgia Southern wins this game. This is a tough
one for APT to swallow, considering it's at home, but
Georgia Southern's just too much.

Speaker 5 (17:28):
Then another tough one comes up against a team that
a lot of people think will win the Sunbelt out
right at James Madison. The Dukes bring back nine players
they went nine to four last year. Alonze Barnett, Lounder's
favorite group of five player returns at quarterback after being
a fourth team Sun Belt selection last season. They have

(17:49):
the best running back room in the Sunbelt according to many,
and a good offensive line.

Speaker 1 (17:54):
Horse starters will come.

Speaker 5 (17:55):
Back to help a defense that is expected to be
one of, if not the best, in the Sun Belt. Sorry,
ab State, but I don't feel like you got anything
for the Dukes. You get duked out, see you late.

Speaker 3 (18:06):
On the road too, Like there's just not a whole
lot working for you in this scenario. I do think
app State at this point of the season, they're going
to start to form an identity themselves, and so now
they'll have something to fall back on if things get
a little hairy. But I do expect things to get
a little more than just Harry against the Dukes. App
State they end up losing this one.

Speaker 4 (18:24):
The one thing that's interesting about this game is that
remember last year, towards the end of the year, app
State struggling limps into the game against James Madison, but
finds a way to beat them by fourteen. So I
think this is going to be a close game. But
I think on the road it's just probably a little
too much to ask for app State. Give me James

(18:45):
Madison to win this game, especially because the Linza Barnett's back.

Speaker 5 (18:48):
All right, November twenty second, Marshall comes a calling. They
will come to the rock after going ten and three
last year. But we just talked about it. They have
been depleted after head coach Charles Huff went to Southern Miss.
Only four starters of back offense lost their quarterback to
Southern Miss. They lost their top five running backs, top

(19:09):
four receivers, and top four offensive linemen. Not to mention
sixteen of their top seventeen tacklers are gone, including NFL
draft choice and controversial topic here on Weston Walker, Mike Green.
Even though many transfers will enter the freight to try
to help them out, I feel like Marshall has lost
too much. This is a program that is certainly on

(19:30):
a downward trajectory, and app State gets the victory.

Speaker 3 (19:34):
So you mentioned a lot of the players that they lost.
Just to put it in terms of stat leaders, no
passer on the roster through for a large yard last season,
a bunch of fat they threw for lards. What I said,
no Returney rushed for a yard. Two retornees caught passes
for this team. Those responsible for forty nine of sixty
five offensive line starts are gone. One of eight defensive

(19:58):
linemen with at least fifty snaps returns only one of them.
The total linebacker snaps returning is three three linebacker snaps,
and finally, two of the thirteen defensive backs with at
least thirty snaps return The other thing about this is
life can change fast in the Sun Belt when you
win a championship. The teams that won championships in twenty
twenty one and twenty twenty three in Louisiana and Troy,

(20:20):
who then lost their head coach, won seven fewer games
the following season. A whole lot is lining up for
Marshall to not be very good this year. I think
app State beats the Thundering Herd.

Speaker 4 (20:31):
Yeah, Marshall's gonna suck this year. Let's just put it
out there. They are going to be the worst team
in this conference because of all that they lost, and
they deserve to be the worst team in this conference
because they fired Charles Huff despite doing a great job there.
That's a coaching move that will never make any sense
to me, even though you got Tony Gibson, the guy
that we think could be trending in the right direction

(20:51):
eventually somewhere down the line, when it comes to being
a head coach this year, there's just no hope for
that team. If they finish one in eleven, I wouldn't
be shocked.

Speaker 2 (21:00):
I think Gap State beats him pretty easily.

Speaker 5 (21:02):
Dam So, you said Tony Gibson coming in there and
just looking off.

Speaker 4 (21:06):
I don't think it's Tony Gibson's problem. I think when
you lose that many guys, it's a complete turnover. And
I'm gonna tell you, I don't think Marshall's gonna have
a lot of fans of games because a lot of
their fans were not happy with the choice to get
rid of Charles Up.

Speaker 2 (21:21):
I think if they're in for a bad year.

Speaker 5 (21:22):
Man all right for me and Appalachian State their last
game taking on Arkansas State on November twenty ninth, I
think a bowl game will be on the line because
I've got him at five and six right now. Arkansas
State returns six from an eight and five squad. Jalen
Rayner returns at quarterback. He's one of the better dual
threats in the Sun Belt jquees Cross. He ran for

(21:43):
six hundred and thirty eight yards last year running back.
He did lose for their top five pass catchers from
last season, but wide receiver Corey Rucker returns after going
for over a thousand yards and he was a second
team All Sun Belt selection. One starters back on the
offensive line, defensive line has been depleted. They will be
manned by a bunch of transfers, and they lost all

(22:05):
four starters in the secondary. I think on the rock,
ap State looking to try to get to a bowl
game in dal Login's first season. It's going to be cold,
toles shivering everything and they get the victory.

Speaker 1 (22:20):
Hey get to a bowl game for your boy, all right.

Speaker 3 (22:23):
So I already have them safely in a bowl game
with six wins leading up to this finale against Arkansas State.
You mentioned some of the offensive players that they have,
they should be just fine on that side of the ball.
It really is all about the defense. With that being said,
having replenished a lot of the players because they're gone now,
I do think that there is some talent and it's

(22:43):
actually you start to look at every single player that
they brought in through the portal and pretty solid last year.
I think that they all contributed at their stops the
previous season. I think Arkansas State has enough talent defensively.
It's just all about building that continuity. But you're going
to be playing app State at the end of the year.
You'll have plenty of time to start to get into
a rhythm. I think Arkansas State ends up winning. Good

(23:04):
news for app in my world is that they're already
in a bowl game, but they are going to lose
the finale at home.

Speaker 1 (23:09):
Okay.

Speaker 4 (23:10):
I think they'll win this game, especially at home. I
think there could be a bowl game that could be
on the UH on the play for them.

Speaker 2 (23:19):
I think Arkansas State, they just they.

Speaker 4 (23:22):
Lost a lot last year and I feel like by
this time of the season you should have your answers.

Speaker 2 (23:27):
I think Arkansas State will be solid team.

Speaker 4 (23:29):
I think both teams will probably come in battling to
make it to a bowl game.

Speaker 2 (23:33):
But at home.

Speaker 4 (23:33):
Give me app State figuring it out just enough to
make it to a bowl game when it's all said
and done.

Speaker 3 (23:39):
Now, the other thing is Charlotte. We haven't picked that
game yet, have not, so I still have them with
six victories at least at this point. Okay, independent or
you know, yeah, independent of the Charlotte game.

Speaker 1 (23:52):
So we'll see.

Speaker 3 (23:53):
So I got them safely in and you have them
safely and I guess depending on what happens against Charlotte.

Speaker 5 (23:58):
Yeah, well yeah, depending on what happens and Charlotte, and
I think the last game will be pivotal. So what
do we think, I mean, if they go towards the
level of seven wins, like maybe you guys have them
or six wins like I do. But we'll start with
you guys, like seven wins in his first year. Hypothetically,
do you think app State fans are happy with that?

Speaker 1 (24:16):
At app State?

Speaker 3 (24:18):
I think it's okay to at the bare minimum ask
for a bowl game or even a little bit better.
I don't think they want to be shaken in their
boots on whether they're going to be playing in a
bowl game or not. So potentially in your world that
could be the case. Facing Arkansas State at the end
of the season, I don't think you would love it.
Even if you get bowl eligible, it's okay. I'd like
to be a little bit better. Yeah, And they've earned that,

(24:38):
right man, Like even with you having a different head coach,
even if Dal Logins deserves some grace, nobody's gonna fire
Dal Logins if you win six games. I just think
Mountaineer fans they have high expectations because that's all they know,
and that's okay. Like here I am, as a Charlotte
forty nine er football fan, I would love to be
in that world. I would love to be in that
scenario where I demand you gotta get to a bowl game.

Speaker 1 (25:00):
And that's where they are.

Speaker 3 (25:01):
They've earned that over the course of different coaches, whether
it's Jerry Moore, Scott Saderfield, Eli Drinkwitz, Sean Clark. It
doesn't matter. Those guys win football games. So I think
you would like to be pretty solidly in Bowl eligibly.

Speaker 5 (25:14):
Yeah, I think he will definitely get some grace because
it's the first year he's going to have a new
start at quarterbacks. I think fans will be patient, But
then I think next year will start to ratchet up
just a little bit, especially depending on how the recruiting
class looks, et cetera. And I think, like anything, it
depends on how does it look. How do your losses look?
Are you getting out class by teams that you should

(25:36):
not be? I mean, when you play Boise State, if
you get beat down pretty bad, I mean I'm not sure.
I don't think the fans would be too upset about
that it was a college football playoff team. And then
like maybe in Oregon State, can you hang with them?
Can you battle it out with them? And so I
think that matters. How does it look for them down
the stretch? But flyingal, what say you? How should app

(25:56):
State fans feel if they are able to reach a
B game, maybe safely with seven or barely with six.

Speaker 4 (26:03):
I mean, regardless, I think if you reach a bowl game,
you should feel like this is a successful season. Dal
Logins was not the sexiest higher that you could have made.
If you were app State, you would have thought that
you would be able to go out and get a
bigger name than that, considering the history that app State has.
But this is the guy that they settled on, and
for me, I don't have the loftiest expectations for them.

(26:26):
I mean, look where I have him sitting right now.
I got them with five wins. So everything comes down
to that Charlotte game as to whether or not they're
going to make a bowl game.

Speaker 2 (26:35):
I just there's a lot that has to be overhauled
with this team.

Speaker 4 (26:38):
So to me, if you find a way to get
to a bowl game, you should feel pretty confident because
I don't think, first of all, I don't think your
quarterback play is anywhere near where it needs to be.
In order to feel comfortable about you making a bowl game,
You're gonna have to scrape your way into one, and
I think you should be happy if it happens.

Speaker 3 (26:58):
If we're talking about app stage just a little longer.
Big hire for Doug Gillen because what he did was
go outside the family for a guy that wasn't an
overwhelming favorite. If you're going for Dal Loggins, that's a
little different than going outside the family for a coach
that has the Tim Albin resume. Right, we've made that comparison.

(27:18):
If Appstate hires Tim Albin, then we're like, they're back
black and gold all of that, and we're feeling great
about it. They hired somebody that hasn't had a ton
of success as a head coach.

Speaker 1 (27:29):
We just don't know what it's going to look like.

Speaker 3 (27:30):
They had some success going outside the family before any
lied Drinkuits, but Drinkquits left and used you as a
stepping stone. That's what happened after one year and left
kind of in the night. So I'm interested to see
what happens if Dal Loggins does have success, and if
he does have that success, then what's he going.

Speaker 1 (27:46):
To do with it? Yeah, and they're black and yellow,
not black and gold. Okay, I know they like the
State
