Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, so let's go around the NFL. Let's talk
about it. Some big storylines coming out of this Sunday,
and we will start at first with Drake May Myers
Park High School, straight out of the Queens City. I'm
sure he still loves bo Jangles just as much as
he did when he was living here. Because he became
the first player in NFL history to complete ninety percent

(00:21):
of his passes while throwing for two hundred and fifty
yards and two touchdowns in a single game. They absolutely
eviscerated the New York Jets out there on Sunday. And
Drake May, yes, he has taken his lumps this year,
but this has been a phenomenal year for the New
England Patriots. And he was absolutely electric yesterday. They went

(00:42):
forty two to ten. This game was never a game.
He was absolutely outstanding. Look at Matthew Stafford's numbers this morning.
I know he's forty touchdowns to five interceptions, and I
feel like that he will more than likely get the MVP.
And I think that the biggest reason why. Not only
the numbers are great, but I think that because of
the senior I think people will feel like Drake May
has plenty of time to win MVPs, and I think

(01:04):
that's what we'll keep him from getting it. But I
think that this was his strongest case, even though it
was against the Jets. That's a that's just a performance
that you can't argue with. When you're the first to
do anything as long as the NFL has been around,
is absolutely enough.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
Yeah, I don't know if it was the biggest, but
to see him go for almost a ninety one percent
completion percentage while also throwing downfield, also accumulating five touchdown
passes with no interceptions, it's a great stat line. I
don't really care who you're playing against, but if you
needed a good team to see that kind of performance
to give it real value, then let's just go back

(01:40):
to the week prior when he played against the Baltimore
Ravens and he threw for three hundred yards for the
first time in his loan season or his second season
in the NFL, the first time ever. He became a
part of the three hundred yard club, throwing for three
to eighty and then going for a couple of touchdown passes.
Drake May has been everything and then some. And I
think when people discuss the way that he's performed this year.

(02:01):
I don't know if you look at the lack of competition,
because the strength of schedule is not great for this
team all year long. At the same time, I don't
think you see Drake May and the throws that he's
making downfield, the accuracy, the power, the throw on the move,
the running ability.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
I don't think you look at.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
What Drake May is doing and you say, well, it's
easy to do it against all of these opponents. Hey,
even in the times where he's had to show up,
you split against the Bills, one of the best teams
that you've played so far, the Baltimore Ravens have a
chance to get to the postseason, and you beat the
Baltimore Ravens twenty eight to twenty four largely because of
your performance. And this was on the upswing for Baltimore

(02:37):
when they were playing a lot better. It wasn't like
you got the win against bad Baltimore in the first half.
Can't say enough about how well he's performed. I think
Stafford probably is going to win MVP if they wanted
to give it to Drake May. I should rephrase that
it won't be because they're giving it to him. It
will be because he earned it. Yeah, no doubt about it,
all right.

Speaker 1 (02:56):
Also, last night, the game of the night, one of
the games of the season, forty nine Ers beat the
Chicago Bears forty two to thirty eight. You had Kyle
Shanahan making another case for Coach of the Year, knocking
off Ben Johnson. We're gonna talk about that in a second,
or maybe in the next segment if we run over Finally,
you know what to do. Let's go ahead at this

(03:17):
thing right now, Let's do this. Don't look at this
to see whether this is a flagrant. That was scary.
I don't even I don't even know if I want
to see that again.

Speaker 2 (03:27):
You gotta think that's going to be a flagrant.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
The question is is it a one or two? Let's
see him last night. Was Deebo Samuel out there? No
he was not. Was Brandon Ayuk out there, No he
was not. Was George Kittle out there? Was Trent Williams
out there? No he was not. Let's talk about it.

(03:52):
Brock Purdy last night absolutely outstanding. Coming off of an
outstanding game the week before that, he followed his career
high five touchdown performance by throwing for three scores, running
for two six players since the AFL NFL merger. With
back to back games with at least five touchdowns. He
threw for three to zero three in this game. What

(04:15):
else are you gonna say? Efficiency charts show you that
the man is off the chain. He's been absolutely bonker
since he came back. I heard it this year. Mac
Jones is the reason. He's he's the better player. That's
the guy you need to go with. Rock Party isn't
worth that fifty three million NFL leader in touchdowns per
game this season. He's on a ridiculous pace if he

(04:39):
was to play the entire season. But no crazy defense
as well. We can't leave that out. But he's got
twenty passing touchdowns twenty three total this season, most by
any quarterback with eight or fewer starts since quarterbacks starts
with first track A nineteen fifty. So I don't want
to hear it anymore. The man that's been to a
Super Bowl, be NFC championship games, set all types of records,

(05:03):
ain't gonna be the most aggressive quarterback in the league.
When you talk yards per tempt, sometimes he makes my
cheeks clench with some of the throws that he makes. Wow.
But Brock Purdy last night he danced on you on
the field, he danced off the field. If my homes
Josh Allen had did that play that he did last night,
we'll be talking about it. Oh dadn oh Josh Allen,

(05:23):
He's oh my god. So once again, when you talk
about that receiving quarter he had out there last night,
Ricky Piercehall, who hasn't done much in his forty nine
career thus far, I still got belief in the young
man Jake Tongas, Juwan Jennings, who I love, but DeMarcus Robinson,
Kendrick Bourne Juice and he goes out there and throws

(05:44):
for all those yards. Forty nine ers punter has been
chilling harder than a family on vacation. So I say
all that to say I don't want to hear it anymore.
Brock Party, after the comebacks in the playoffs, after doing
it this year without an all star cast that you
guys love to say, that's the reason he is who
he is. You shut the hold up and get the

(06:05):
hell out of my face. Because Brock Party is a
Masta top five status.

Speaker 2 (06:10):
Let's go okay. Brock Party was excellent last night. So
was Caleb Williams, so was this game. And Brock Party
really was great. I don't really have anything to add,
to be honest with you, because this was a great performance,
and I have nothing to say about what brock Party
did not do because it was really everything that he
did do outside of the pocket making plays with his feet.
The only thing I would criticize was his dancing. It

(06:32):
was quite bad.

Speaker 1 (06:33):
You didn't like the dug You don't like this dug?

Speaker 2 (06:35):
No, it was pretty bad. I liked it, and this
wasn't even any When you go to do the douggie
on the football field, it feels like everybody kind of
knocks it out of the park. It felt like brock
Party wasn't doing it all that well, to be honest
with you, But it doesn't matter because what they're going
to see when they see him dancing on everybody, They're
going to show all of the highlight plays, and there
were plenty of them because Brock was excellent. Now what

(06:57):
you have here, we've got some great football. The Chicago
Bears just followed their epic Sunday. Well, we just see
every single game they play over the last month. It's
been down to the wire. It's been Chicago winning some
it's been them losing some where they made the cheese
greater heads as popular as they are now. They have
this great game last night against San Franz. Some crazy football.

(07:18):
But anyways, yes san fran they look very good. And
if you wanted to talk about bringing this local Dave
Canalis winning Coach of the Year, I don't think he
would deserve it over a guy like Kyle Shanahan with
all the injuries, with performing as well as he has
in terms of a play calling style, with Mac Jones, who,
as much as we can praise Brock Party, I don't
think Mac Jones is guy deserves a.

Speaker 1 (07:38):
Lot of credit though, because the season would not be
ware it is without him. I'm just saying out for
the people that was saying he should be the guy
and Party should be sent out of time. He was great.

Speaker 2 (07:46):
Mac Jones was legitimately he saved the season above starter
level and even like sometimes Pro Bowl level. Good Brock
I think is a better QB, just so we can
get rid of that. But Shanahan Coach of the year,
Who are the candidate? It's Ben Jonson deserves considerations. Mike
McDonald deserves considerations. Mike Vrabel, all the Mike's, the simple names,

(08:08):
the Kyles, the Mikes, the Bens. I think they all
deserve it over another simple name. And Dave over here
in Charlot

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
