Speaker 1 (00:08):
Only on Sports Radio ninety two point seven a half
m we go a ufn Z five.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
He's the Weston Walker Show. Even a crowd knows what's
coming there. Happy Monday, folks, WESN.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
Walker, Sports Radio ninety two to seven wfn Z. It
is finally game week, at least preseason game week, but
it still counts. We get to watch the Carolina Panthers
play a real, kind of real football game at the
end of the week against the Cleveland Browns. We got
joint practice, so we've got a lot of stuff to
get to all week long.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
WESN.
Speaker 1 (00:45):
Walker and the rest of Sports Radio ninety two to
seven wfn Z. This is one of those weeks too
where it's not going to be the real version of
Wes and Walker. Wes is out all week long, decided
to take some hymn time, little meat time, treating the Lifelo,
little TLC. So he's going to be coming back the
week after and then we'll get ready for football season.
(01:08):
We'll get ready for all college football hitting us. Same
thing with the NFL getting into the middle of preseason
at that point, so it's just going to be me
and floundg. We got guests rolling through all week long
as well. Joe Person actually set to join us today
at one twenty to discuss what he saw in FanFest,
what he has seen in the first two weeks in camp.
He actually has seven takeaways that he wrote about a
(01:30):
part of the of his athletic column that he just
dropped at six am this morning, The seven things that
we've learned about the Carolina Panthers in training camp to
this point. So let us know how you're feeling on
the fandual text line. By the way, on this beautiful Monday,
it really is a beautiful Monday. Thank God that we
don't have one hundred degree weather anymore, at least for
(01:51):
the time being, because my body couldn't take it. And
you know what when we had the bad storms rolling
through on Friday, because this is just what our life
is over there in Madison Park. The power lines are
above ground.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
Yep. Ran out of power. Oh very nice. Yep.
Speaker 1 (02:06):
We were out of power on Friday because of the storms.
Came to use the lanterns again, had to use the lanterns.
Paul Revere. Yes, we were carrying abround the house so
I could dress myself and not look completely stupid. Dressing
myself in the dark. Had to bring the lanterns all
over the place. The fish big priority because the filters
don't run if the power's out. Oh you know how
it is floundy your fish, yourself. So we had to
(02:27):
get that air running through circulated.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
Keep my boys going.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
Those are your boys, no doubt about it. Those are
your boys. And so we had to keep things running. There,
had to get some oxygen in the tank, and we
were out like it just fully reveals how spoiled we
are as twenty first century citizens of this earth because
we were out of power for not even twenty four hours.
(02:54):
It was close. It was close for twenty four hours,
I think, like eighteen. Yeah, it's bad over there with
the power lines being above ground. But Olivia cranky just
not having it. In fact, it was a little hot,
thank god, it wasn't one hundred degrees, so at least
it was cooling down over the weekend, but still no,
thank you couldn't sleep because it wasn't And she likes
(03:15):
to sleep with the thermostat at like sixty five or
even lower, which is all I love it.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
Oh yeah, cold sleeping.
Speaker 1 (03:22):
I'm even a little vulnerable to being a little too cold.
I've talked about it before. I'm a little bit of
a temperature goldilocks. I need my temperature at the right spot,
not too hot, not too cold. I need it just right.
And I'm kind of whiny if it's I'm not. You
gotta be self aware. She is a little worse than
I am. And so when it wasn't sixty five and
(03:44):
instead it was like sitting around seventy three, seventy four
and even creeping up a little bit north of that,
oh yeah, it was a little brutal for us. So
she decided, you know what, screw this. We're going to Low's.
We're going to get a power block, we're going to
make sure that we have TV, We're going to make
sure that we have Wi Fi. And thus the Bougie
Walker accusations come in, which really should be reserved for
Bougie Olivia, but instead they're going to be directed at me.
Speaker 2 (04:06):
But I because you're wallet that's spending the money.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
No no, no, no, no, no contrere, oh contrere. She
works in public accounting. I work in radio. If it
was me spending for all, spending all of this money
on all of this stuff, then I'd be might have
to come in here with the same shirt on every
single day because I can't afford clothes anymore. After that
fifty dollars T.
Speaker 2 (04:26):
Shirt, I was gonna say, that's your go to your
shirt right there.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
That's right, that's right. Panther Bo likes the comment you're
a fish yourself.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
Lol.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
Yes, Nascar Brad, Happy Monday guys, Happy Monday to you,
Brian saying three kings? What's good? Just two kings today?
But we also say what's up with you?
Speaker 2 (04:43):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (04:43):
The power being out for eighteen hours? Not gonna lie.
It was not so much brutal for me. But when
you have the girlfriend or the significant other that's just
not here for it, that's when you just need to
be up and ready to go and do whatever she
wants to. And that included buying a power block so
we could at least get something back from the twenty
first hand.
Speaker 2 (05:02):
I can't blame her. I mean, I gotta be honest.
Speaker 3 (05:04):
I'd be lost without my phone, without television, and especially
without AC. I mean that's the big one for me
is you gotta have the air conditioning. So if you
don't have that, then what kind of life are we
living here?
Speaker 1 (05:16):
It's it gets a little hot, like and even for me,
I like it probably seventy one during the day.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
That's not bad. But then we go down.
Speaker 1 (05:25):
I'm here for the sixty five or below sleeping, you know,
cover up with the blankets, get nice and cozy, like
Homer Simpson calling himself a cinnamon roll. Love that. I
love sleeping in that temperature. But we didn't get that
because of the power being out. Anyways, that was my weekend.
We bounced back. We're a resilient bunch over there in
Madison Park. And now I'm ready to talk about some
FanFest which you attended with the rest of Basically, like
(05:50):
I guess eighty.
Speaker 3 (05:51):
Percent of WFNZ, defenc was representing in the stands at
this there was only one man. I'm going to be
in the press like a professional radio man.
Speaker 1 (06:03):
So if you were to point fingers at the bougiest
member of WFNZ, are all of the fingers pointing at Willip?
Speaker 2 (06:11):
Yeah, it's gotta be. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (06:13):
Look, we have the joke about how I used to
have to shop at Walmart, then I shop at Target.
Now maybe I get a couple fingers pointed in my way,
but nobody can really look at me and say I'm
boogier than pe though, no way, right.
Speaker 3 (06:27):
Willie is definitely you shopping Harris Teeter. Gross, I'm shopping
wool Foods, okay, gross, Oh god, I can't even get
that high.
Speaker 1 (06:39):
I'm like the one guy at this everybody else does
a great Willip impression.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
Can't do it. I can't do it. And that's why
he likes you better than the rest.
Speaker 1 (06:46):
Probably, Yeah, you know, if I could do a better
Willip impression, he'd probably hate me a little more. But
I think me and Willy are in good terms and
I just don't make fun of him.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
Twenty four to seven. That probably helps out twenty four
to seven.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
But I mean, in this moment when he said that
he is going, he is going as the professional radio
man while all the rest of us are just hanging
out having a good time. It's like, come on, Willie
win the group?
Speaker 2 (07:09):
All right.
Speaker 1 (07:09):
So Willy was there, but he was in a press box.
Everybody else was there. Kyle was there, and I'll let
him talk about it, obviously, but took just like a
classic father son photo at a sporting event, and I'll
let him describe the photo.
Speaker 3 (07:21):
But he showed me he was very prava birthday to cult.
By the way, he turned three over the weekend.
Speaker 2 (07:25):
Yes a man, Happy birthday, Colt. That's fantastic.
Speaker 1 (07:28):
But just like the old when you think of proud
father son sports moments, Kyle has that captured on his
phone and he showed me down at the fish bowl
and it's like.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
You know, you get a little tarry eye.
Speaker 1 (07:40):
It's you get to think about your own relationship with pops.
Like you're watching the Big Daddy Trial and everybody has
to call their dad because of the sweet moment that
happens in Big Daddy. A little like that when you
see this photo. But cool moment for them. Out of
fan fast, Mac and Boone. We're in attendance. I ran
into a couple people this weekend that were there. People
are excited for pants football season, floundy. People are excited.
(08:02):
You got to see it in person. Let's actually pull
up to the scene, even if we're a little late.
Let's pull up to the scene. Let's open up the doors.
Let's get off the bus.
Speaker 2 (08:11):
We looked good getting off the bus. Hey, let's go
to you.
Speaker 1 (08:20):
Man on the scene, the only one here on the
mic in the studio at this moment, in time. By
the way, the Chandler Volta Studios that is CEV Injury
Law dot com, CV Injury Law dot com.
Speaker 2 (08:30):
One call.
Speaker 1 (08:30):
That's all the Carolina's personal injury lawyers vibes. Feeling mantra,
how are you feeling out there? Well, the fan base
definitely showed up.
Speaker 3 (08:39):
I mean, this was a pretty packed house for a scrimmage,
and that was basically what it was, an inner squad scrimmage.
Did not see them practicing a lot, like going into
the individual position drills and everything like that. This was basically,
as Dave Canalis said, trying to get these guys ready
for what it's going to be like on a game day.
Speaker 2 (08:59):
And I thought, you.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
Know, for the most part, you know, everybody looked pretty good.
I thought offensively, they definitely the offense won the night.
There's no doubt about that. They were able to consistently
move the ball. I think there were two punts the
entire night from Sam Martin. So maybe a little bit
of concern for the defense. But you didn't have Derek
Brown out there. So the run defense, I thought the
(09:21):
first team run defense wasn't exactly great. Didn't see a
lot of Bobby Brown early either he came in later.
So that's a guy that you're expecting to be able
to stop the run. So hopefully that's that's something that
changes here over the next few weeks. But I thought
for the most part, you know, you you saw a
team that is going to be very competitive.
Speaker 2 (09:41):
There were some guys who shined. I mean there were
some guys.
Speaker 3 (09:44):
That we will not talk about probably ever again after preseason,
Bryce and Tremaine at wide receiver, James Mitchell at tight end,
Like these are guys who probably won't factor in the
last Yeah, well, I mean you might mention them again
against the Browns, you might mention in a couple of
preseason games, but I don't think we'll be talking that
much about them. But the guys that really stood out,
(10:06):
Corey Thornton, I think had a really really good practice.
Speaker 2 (10:09):
Love him, man, I mean, he's looking really good.
Speaker 3 (10:11):
That's a really good backup corner I think for them
right now.
Speaker 1 (10:15):
So if we start to talk about some of these
camp battles, just in some of the bullet points that
have on the rundown here, the question being what camp
battles are we starting to see develop a little more?
I would say, is it okay to say Corey Thornton
versus the field at one of those later cornerback spots.
If the hierarchy is J. C. Horn, Mike Jackson, Chow
(10:36):
Smith Wade, who's been excellent in camp too, Big Stock Riser,
is it okay if we put Corey Thornton as that
fourth corner, I would that they've been developing.
Speaker 2 (10:44):
I would for sure I would have him there.
Speaker 3 (10:45):
I mean, Tamar Bartholomew wasn't bad either, Matt Burka, but
I really thought that Corey Thornton made a couple of
nice plays the other night. And then I'm telling you, man,
the guy that really stood out to me the entire
night on defense was Lathan Ransom.
Speaker 2 (10:59):
I thought he looked really good.
Speaker 1 (11:01):
Which is nice because we have not heard a lot
from him in the first two weeks. So if you're
going to show up or at least in a way
that everybody can talk about, FanFest would be the practice
that you would choose in front of everybody, right under
the lights. That's a great performance from Leathan Ransom, who
Joe Person wrote about on his seven Things a column
that he just dropped on the Athletic again at six am.
(11:23):
So the fact that Laythan Ransom played well, that's something
nice to see and really a lot of secondary players.
I look, I'm not saying we have all this cornerback
depth now, but I feel a lot better about corner
right now than I used to. And I'm trying to
hold myself in check because it's training camp you're talking about.
It's a good wide receiver group, so it's not like
(11:45):
they're going against this terrible competition. Wide receivers are looking great.
I think the corners have had their moments also, with
Corey Thornton really doing a nice job against Temac at FanFest,
which had glass half full half empty, depending on how
you want to look at it, is that a t
Mac issue? Is that a Thornton praise plays was bad?
Speaker 3 (12:05):
To be honest with you, the one that he got
taken away that Corey Thornton ended up with a PBu
on I thought was a bad throw by Bryce not bad,
It wasn't horrible, but it was behind him and I
didn't think it was really that bad of a drop.
And then I mean the guy, the guy that had
the biggest drop of the night sexl Yeah, it was.
He had a nice deep ball from Bryce saw in
a free play and just couldn't haul it in.
Speaker 1 (12:27):
Saw some stills of that moment, some still shots. It
did look like the corner got there early. I don't
know who was in coverage.
Speaker 3 (12:33):
Mike Jackson was the guy who was in coverage, and
he said he I won't give it away because he
is going to be on with Mack and.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
Bone tomorrow, but that is a recorded interview.
Speaker 3 (12:43):
He did mention that play in there and said that
he did believe that he got the PBu, so maybe
he got his hands in there, but it did look
like a drop.
Speaker 2 (12:51):
It's one you would want to have back, I think
if you're.
Speaker 1 (12:53):
Excel, which is the issue with XL, especially downfield, because
we know XL can get some separation downfield. This has
been a strong suit for him. It's the whole catching
of it. To deliver on the play. It reminds you
of a nice play on the blacktop, where you might
have a million dollar move and a ten cent finish.
This is what XL has provided us a few times
(13:14):
and I hate seeing that. Hopefully did have a touchdown
though it feels like that was a nice play. It
feels like what XL is doing is giving us some
trick or treats every now and then, and I would
like to not be tricked nearly as much. Just treat
me please XL. But it feels like he's giving us
a fifty to fifty camp, and I'm fine with that.
By the way, I'm not worried about it. I know
(13:36):
Wes and I discussed this a little last week, where
Wes would describe it as a little more quiet than
I would. I would just describe it more as a
mixed bag what we're getting from the former first round pack.
Speaker 2 (13:45):
Yeah, I would agree with that too.
Speaker 3 (13:47):
I don't think it's necessarily been that bad of a
camp for him. I think he's been solid and I
thought the other night that was basically what he was.
He was able to get open on that touchdown. Now,
part of that was that that was just a blown
coverage supposed to be man coverage all across the board.
Mike Jackson tries to pass him off and there's nobody there.
(14:07):
Nick Scott takes a bad angle to the ball. Why
this was my question, Why is Nick Scott playing with
the first team.
Speaker 2 (14:14):
I don't understand it. You know my position on Nick Scott, Well.
Speaker 1 (14:17):
I think we all Yeah, I think most people share
that position given his play last year. The question I
have too, is it's been awfully quiet from Demani Richardson
after the first couple of days of camp where we
all thought he was great, and then you see some
of the stock reports. Mike Ky dropped that on the
Charlotte Observer Demany nowhere to be found. It really has
been a company sor r right all right the other night,
(14:37):
But that's the thing. He wasn't all right early in camp.
He was really good. Yes, he played very well, and
now we're probably slowing our role a little more on Demani.
Doesn't mean that he's not going to start, doesn't mean
that he can't play really well right out of the gates.
It just feels like it's been a little more cool.
I didn't start the other night.
Speaker 3 (14:53):
They started Nick Scott alongside of trayvon marrig, So I
mean we got to monitor that. That's one that I
thought was an interesting choice by the coaching staff to
roll him out there and Turk Wharton starting over. Bobby
Brown I thought was also very interesting. Yeah, that's what
they think about Turk. I think I agree with you.
Speaker 1 (15:10):
I wonder just what I wonder situational stuff for them,
you know, but one hundred percent worth noting. Let's go
rapid fire before we end the segment some of my takeaways,
and then you give me a thumbs up for thumbs down,
except actually do it on the microphone because this is audible.
It's an audible medium. Jimmy Horn Stock's still rising. Thumbs
up for sure, Yes, buddy, Okay, good night for him. Hey,
(15:31):
I wanted to see some actual production with the hype.
Ever since I gave that take last week, that's all
he's been doing so awesome stuff from Jimmy horn Great
to see.
Speaker 3 (15:41):
He's not a great tackler, though. On the fake punt
play okay, Slateston Ransom.
Speaker 2 (15:45):
It was not great.
Speaker 1 (15:46):
We'll live with it. We'll live with it. Tmax Stock
hit a little bit of a speed bump. It didn't
stop them. Just maybe the Stock took a speed bump.
Is that too strong?
Speaker 2 (15:53):
I guess we could go with the thumbs up there.
Speaker 1 (15:56):
Uh, xcel mixed bag. We already went through that. Corey
Thornton getting a lot of my last thing. That's basically it,
the last thing on Corey Thornton. Dan Morgan loves brutes
as football players. Corey Thornton six to one physical corner,
Mike Jackson a bigger corner.
Speaker 4 (16:11):
J C.
Speaker 2 (16:11):
Horn a bigger corner.
Speaker 1 (16:12):
We know what they did in the off season, getting
a whole bunch of bigger guys. Ben Solak mentioned this
during the Panthers offseason. Every addition, they're big, physical dudes.
Even their safety in Merrick is someone that plays closer
to the line of scrimmage. It's clear to see that
Dan Morgan has a philosophy not with just a certain
position group, but with a football team, with every single
(16:34):
position group. He wants you to be big, physical brutes
as a football player, and that's the style that he's
going after. Let's talk about this a little bit more
on the other side. People writing in fandel text line,
keep those texts coming, folks. Seven oh four five seven
ZHO ninety six ten. One question before we go to
break as well, how much does Dan Morgan and Carolina
(16:54):
need t Mac to ball out right away? How much
patience do you have from a receiver? Do you need
to ball out right away or can we take some
time for him to cook. We'll get to that in
just a moment. Ninety two to seven FM leave it
(17:17):
to Fitty to walk into the Chandler Volta studios and
cause me not to please the tease. I need to
explore something that he said he did over the weekend,
and no, that shouldn't scare you. Don't run away from
your radio. We're not going to go into any of
the depths of what you might expect the Josh Fitty
Barlow to do over the weekend. It's all sports related.
But I need to explore this flounder like and you
(17:39):
can help me out. Fans, fandle text line, let us
know how you feel about It's seven oh four five,
seven oh ninety six to ten, so one. I said
I wouldn't dabble in this, but perhaps I'm going back
on that. Immediately, you said that you looked at Bryce
Young this weekend like you did r J Davis.
Speaker 2 (17:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (17:56):
I did not realize it had gotten that special to you,
relationship with Carolina's quarterback, because I mean, you love RJ.
Davis in a way that I can't really describe because
of FCC violations on the show. It's a little stocker
ish I did. But you said, like RJ Davis. I
questioned you on that and you said, no, Bryce is
(18:17):
my sweet little prince.
Speaker 2 (18:18):
Is what you said? What is a drum?
Speaker 1 (18:24):
Right the timestage, He looked at me and he said,
oh yeah, oh yeah, like like I was crazy for
even pushing back on this.
Speaker 2 (18:31):
Oh yeah, Bryce is my sweet little prince. That's right.
Speaker 3 (18:34):
I can speak for Bryce here. I think he is
super uncomfortable in this moment.
Speaker 1 (18:38):
I'm super uncomfortable, but I needed to let people know
about this. So anyways, we can move past that. Probably
should explore it a little bit more, but we can
move past it. But tell the people what you did
this weekend that I want to explore and figure out
if anybody else has ever really done.
Speaker 5 (18:51):
This spend too much money on panther gear, primarily Bryce
Young gear. Friday night, I bought his suersey, which is
you know ye for those of you that don't know
this to T shirt or the jersey and T shirt form.
Speaker 2 (19:05):
I bought it in process blue.
Speaker 5 (19:07):
And then on Saturday, when we met up for dinner,
I saw Bone was wearing a Bryce Young jersey and
then I kind of got tempted to buy one. We
got into the stadium, everyone wanted to go get something
to drink. I walked in the fan shop and bought
a jersey which is now while Bone and I started
the Young Lover's Club, that's what the guys that wear
(19:28):
the h that's creepy, that's what that's for those of
us that wear the Bryce Young jersey on the sun.
Speaker 1 (19:33):
I can't think of any problems that might arise from
the Young Lover's Club.
Speaker 5 (19:36):
Would you rather be in the Young Lover's Club like
Bone and I or in the Shoulders Club like or
Bone and I and the Young Lovers and the Mac
and the and the Shoulders Club.
Speaker 3 (19:45):
Well, the Shoulders won't get you locked up. The Young
Lovers could potentially get you in some hot water.
Speaker 2 (19:50):
Yeah, Young Lovers.
Speaker 1 (19:51):
Sounds that there's a few people in the news right
now that comes to mind with the Young Lover's Club.
I'll refrain for breaking does perhaps political figures to the airways.
I did want to ask you what color is the
jersey that you bought?
Speaker 2 (20:08):
Black? Because I've always been a fan of the black jersey,
So I.
Speaker 1 (20:11):
Will say now I'm a little more on board with it.
If you're a huge Brice Young fan and you got
a processed blue jersey and you got a black jersey,
then the fact that it's a different color, is okay.
The reason I'm asking this, though, is how many people
buy the jersey and the jersey period, let alone within
a twenty four hour period. I have to imagine that
(20:31):
was a tough decision for you to make.
Speaker 2 (20:33):
Probably not many. I'll give you some insight.
Speaker 5 (20:36):
I bought two hundred dogs worth a gear for the
Panthers on Friday because through my American Express credit card,
I had a dea where if I spent two hundred bucks,
I got forty bucks back.
Speaker 2 (20:47):
Yeah, so I went in the car deal six items.
Speaker 5 (20:51):
But because I was, you know, only spending and it
was all on sale items by the way, I mean,
I got great bargain out of what I bought, and
I also got forty And then on Saturday, Like I
knew the jersey thing was going to happen because I
know that I really like Brice. He's outside of Mac
the second biggest influence why I've converted back to being
a Panther fan. I loved him in college. I love
(21:14):
what he stands for off the field. Just think it
was gonna happen on Saturday, I'd go in there and
buy the jersey. I thought it'd be like the first
game my tennant as a fan and it didn't even
waiting get through FanFest and there was one hundred and
sixty bucks down the drain.
Speaker 1 (21:25):
Yeah, that's a lot of money for sure, especially at
Bank of America State. He'd you probably could have gotten
a cheaper online, but instead you decided to purchase the
jersey at Boa. It's only a little more expensive than
my Summer League championship shirt, by the way, but I
did not realize they were different colors, and so now
I feel like it's a little more palatable. I just
don't know how many people have the jersey and the
(21:45):
jersey of the same exact athlete out there, Like I
FANDL text line. If you're one of those people, raise
your hand, there's no judgment. I'm really trying to explore
how many people fit this mold seven oh four five,
seven oh ninety six to ten flounder.
Speaker 2 (21:57):
Do you think it's a little weird, Yeah, a little bit.
I think.
Speaker 3 (22:01):
See the problem is is that we have had this
done before with one of his quote unquote teams, and
he gave up on that team within two months.
Speaker 1 (22:11):
Yeah, this would be like I guess I I Lord
helped me with hockey players. But you when you were
a Rangers fan for what was that? Was that ten days?
You think he lasted an hour.
Speaker 3 (22:20):
He didn't go crazy with that. The one that he
went crazy with was Arsenal.
Speaker 2 (22:24):
That's right.
Speaker 1 (22:24):
And then he had Willie trying to sell all of
his gear on eBay and for some reason that took
like a year to sell all the gear on eBay
or something like that.
Speaker 2 (22:33):
But I got my money's back.
Speaker 5 (22:34):
Here's the thing about the hockey phase and the soccer phase,
Like I don't give a damn.
Speaker 2 (22:39):
About either one of those sports, but you tried, you
tried to, and then it just wasn't for you. Right, No,
he didn't really try. I didn't really try.
Speaker 5 (22:46):
It was just really in the name of making content,
like the Panther thing, Like I know people have their doubt,
it's real. I mean like I've I've shredded everything that
is and was Dallas Cowboys about me, Like I'm back home.
Speaker 1 (22:59):
You've redded it. Yeah, like you or you're saying you
don't own those items anymore.
Speaker 5 (23:04):
They're going to be taken down today and I'm gonna
give them to Mac and may you make them go away? Okay,
I actually I was thinking about this because I have
to burn the Romo jersey. I was thinking about calling
the local fire department and asking them to do a
control burn. I could go there, I just don't lie
down the pole phrasing, and then we could we could
(23:24):
burn everything like. That's how committed I am were I
wanted to seek out the fire department to help us
burn this crowd.
Speaker 2 (23:30):
You do know not to dial nine one one. That's
what I'm concerned about.
Speaker 5 (23:33):
Yeah, that was what mine's follow up is what I mean.
I guess these they have a local number. They have
a number, Yes, they have another number. I just I
can imagine you dialing nine one one and then the
emergency response team just cursing you out when you say, hey,
I got some content ideas.
Speaker 2 (23:51):
Let me know what you think. Nine one one emergency response,
what's your emergency? Well help me out here.
Speaker 1 (23:57):
I was thinking about burning my Cowboys gear, which you
guys think immediately click, hang up turns you out, all right.
I just wanted to explore that a little more. I
didn't know. I think the fact that they're different colors
helps out a little bit, but I'm not I have
a hard time trusting you on a lot of things.
I have a hard time trusting you with your flip
of your fandom. More and more you you gained a
(24:20):
little more of my trust every day. I just little
baby steps, the little inch worm steps, we get to
trust level with your flipped fandom.
Speaker 5 (24:28):
Speaking of Innchworm, how heartbroken were you to see that
smoke get rid of Anita?
Speaker 2 (24:33):
Phrasing speaking of nch worm? How heartbroken were you? Very
very heartbroken?
Speaker 5 (24:38):
I mean we went dumpster dive and I moved like
seven trash bags trying to find poor Nita.
Speaker 2 (24:43):
I didn't know how committed to the pace dismembered.
Speaker 1 (24:46):
I wondered how committed to the bit you were going
to be Because you guys were moving some trash bags there,
and knowing the Mac and Bone show with Josh Fitty
Marlow there, I thought you were going to get the
snorkel that I used to go looking for salamanders and
instead look for Anita.
Speaker 3 (24:59):
To be fair, have we got confirmation that smoke actually
threw her out? Yeah, there's audio of its audio. We
have confirmation there's an audio. Do we have visual confirmation
that he threw it out? Look, we have confirmation that
something happened. I ain't no snitch.
Speaker 1 (25:15):
I'm not going to snitch on him, but we have
confirmation that something happened with said blow up doll. That
was all sorts of scary looking. Rip Anita, because I
don't think she's with us anymore.
Speaker 2 (25:26):
Rip.
Speaker 1 (25:27):
All right, thank you Josh Fitty Marlow for helping us
out as we continue for him to try to convince
us that he really is a Panthers fan. Tomorrow six
to ten. You're going to be back at it Big
show tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (25:37):
Live from Panthers' training camp.
Speaker 5 (25:38):
Bryce Young, Dave Canalis, Dan Morgan, JJ Janssen, just the
name of more.
Speaker 2 (25:42):
Could you want nothing? That's it.
Speaker 1 (25:44):
I'll be tuning in from six to ten. Thanks Fitty,
appreciate the time. All right, let's move on. Let's actually
talk about the teas that I gave everyone. How much
does Dan Morgan slash Carolina need t MAC to ball
out this year? We had somebody right in on the
text line and discuss Excel's effect on tam MAC and
said Bigcat Dan actually and Bryant writing in. Bryant said,
(26:08):
I think the production of t MAC is somewhat dependent
on Xavier le get If EXXL struggles, then we would
need t Mac to ball out. Bigcat, Dan said, I
expect TMAC to hit the ground running. So it's a
huge pressure on Dan when it comes to picking wide receivers.
Those are a couple texts rolling in. Those texts actually
parlay into the Sam Monson sound SoundBite from the Check
(26:29):
the Mic podcast. Here's Sam Monson discussing the improved wide
receiver corps and how all of these wide receivers might
even be connected to a certain degree.
Speaker 6 (26:39):
Xavier lee Get was disappointing year one. They still lent
so heavily on Adam Thielen. Now you add in Tederol
McMillan to that group, you know whether he's wide receiver
one in this draft class or two. If you put
Travis Hunters one, he's one of the most imposing receivers
in this draft class. That buy Xavier le Get some time,
maybe a different role to develop into what he can
(27:01):
be at the NFL level. Maybe he becomes more of
a DK Metcalf, more one dimensional, vertical threat type of player.
But you have Adam Thielen there still. Jalen Cocher was
a surprise package last year. You had Jimmy Horn junior
this year in the draft as well. I'm kind of
excited about what he can do. Also, sneakily, Hunter Renfro
is back in the picture. I han't been like an
insurance salesman or whatever he was. Hunter Renfro is like
(27:24):
one of the most difficult to cover slot receiver right
running players in football.
Speaker 2 (27:28):
If you're adding like big.
Speaker 6 (27:30):
Possession type of receiver in T McMillan, who's dangerous after
the catch, Fieland is really good, Leaguett can be a
big play vertical threat. Renfro is your underneath running, savvy.
Speaker 2 (27:44):
Type of guy.
Speaker 6 (27:45):
This is a lot of skills we're adding to Bryce
Young's ability to get the ball out.
Speaker 1 (27:49):
I like how they all compliment each other as well.
I thought that was a great point from Sam not
to just go down the list of how improved a
wide receiving core is, but to also talk about how
they compliment each other. I'm going to switch it up,
new flounder. Let's play the Steve Polozolo t mac thoughts SoundBite,
because he went on to discuss his thoughts on the
eighth overall selection and how he could help the Panthers
(28:10):
this year.
Speaker 4 (28:10):
We'll see how good McMillan is, though, I think they're
obviously counting on him a lot. I think he's in
that uber possession type of range. He's got a big
catch radius. I think he does everything well, not everything great.
I think he does everything well, gets open good after
the catch. I think he'll be he has the high
volume target potential. I think for Bryce Young, I think
(28:31):
it is important for this front office to see TEMC
pay immediate dividends. If t mac comes in and let's
say he goes for six hundred yards, right, and we
could say at the end of the season, give him time.
Speaker 2 (28:43):
It's fine.
Speaker 1 (28:45):
McMillan talked about the physicality that he has to deal
with at corner, especially with some of the early struggles
in training camp.
Speaker 2 (28:51):
Just give him some time.
Speaker 1 (28:52):
He bounced back from the early struggles in camp to
have one of the best days from any wide receiver
at camp just last week. In fact, there was somewhat
of a but I don't even say I wouldn't even
say slow ramp up, just saw okay, mixed bag day,
pretty good day, oh, pretty good day. Boom like breakout
moment where he was awesome down the sideline. One hand catches,
(29:13):
point of attack type of catches there. Great stuff from him.
Not a great day at FanFest. Not bad, you don't
even love my speed bump word there, but probably not
as good as what he had been showing in the
week prior.
Speaker 2 (29:26):
Fair enough.
Speaker 1 (29:28):
Even all that being said, I don't want to say
that tax is going to be an outright bust if
he doesn't have nine hundred or more yards. I'm not
here to tell you that. It would just be nice
to know immediately we have a guy that could reach
star potential, and I don't think we've had that for
quite some time and in fact flounder. If you go
through the Panthers draft history, some of the guys that
(29:49):
were immediate hits just in my brain.
Speaker 2 (29:55):
J C.
Speaker 1 (29:56):
Horn even had the injury, but the play he was
pretty good, but he had the injury right away. Like
the guy I thought of was Jeremy Chin and he
wasn't even a star right like he hit. He was
second in Defensive Rookie of the Year, voting behind Chase Young.
Both of those guys not living up to what their
rookie year was, but guys that hit just right away
(30:17):
as potential stars that you felt good about. Hey, I'll
actually take the over on half a Pro Bowl appearance
for a future bet. I'll take the over on that.
Who are the guys that hit? It wasn't Bryce, I mean,
with the struggles that he had his rookie season. It
certainly wasn't Ikeyakwanu, who we liked but didn't hit in
that Pro Bowl type of way.
Speaker 2 (30:36):
I think j C.
Speaker 1 (30:37):
Horn looked good when he was on the field, except
he just didn't play nearly as much. It can't be
Derek Brown, who was a healthy scratch at one point.
That was a wild grow up process for Derek Brown,
who now is an absolute beast and we all love him,
but it was not immediate with him. The best rookie
season I think that we've had from any kind of first, second,
(31:00):
third round pick. Is it crazy to say Jeremy Chin
like the most recent one, and even Jeremy Chin didn't blossom.
I just I want to see somebody flounder that right
away I look at and say, oh, oh, okay, yeah,
he's going to be a pro bowler and I feel
damn good about it.
Speaker 6 (31:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (31:17):
I mean, the last one that really comes to mind,
especially from the first round picks, are.
Speaker 2 (31:22):
It's got to be Brian Burns.
Speaker 3 (31:24):
I mean the year that he had seven and a
half sacks, especially the fact that he wasn't a starter.
Speaker 2 (31:29):
But you're probably right.
Speaker 3 (31:30):
The most recent is probably Jeremy Chin and that was
a second round pick that you could even argue maybe
overachieved a slight bit and became a part of what
Carolina was doing. Many people thought he was becoming a star,
and that didn't end up panning out.
Speaker 2 (31:45):
He ended up sort of fading out.
Speaker 3 (31:47):
Now he's you know, trying to gain get himself back
into that type of position.
Speaker 2 (31:52):
But I think it's crucial for you.
Speaker 3 (31:56):
To hit on t Mac. And hitting on t Mac
I think is important. It's important to understand what that means.
If he has a season where he has, you know,
fifty catches, six hundred yards, eight touchdowns, something like that,
that's still a hit to me, that would be a
successful year for him. I think that it really just
(32:18):
depends on how much Bryce relies on a guy like
Adam Thielen. If he's still relying on him as the
go to threat for most of the year, then there's
really nothing you can do about it. As long as
t mac is not having issues getting open. As long
as he's not dropping passes, I think you can live
with whatever he gives you this year, and I feel
pretty confident that he's going to be able to do that.
(32:39):
I mean, you look at last year with Xavier le
Guet and then you look at this year with t
mak Man. Xavier never had that moment last year during
camp where it all clicked for him and we were saying,
oh boy, we're feeling really good about our receiver. We
saw that this past week with Tea Mac where everything
was clicking, he was making the one hand grabs. He
(33:00):
was the guy that was the standout of camp on
a certain day. We didn't see that last year. So
I think you should be feeling somewhat confident as a
Panther fan that Timac will be able to have a
pretty successful season.
Speaker 1 (33:13):
Well, especially because he's having a successful camp. I would say,
even if he has had struggles against press coverage, and
that's something that we knew about coming out of college,
even if he was a bigger wide receiver. Nobody described
him as physical at LOS Like. It was all about
the smooth the fluidity that he runs with on his routes.
Coming back to the football, which is a physical skill trade.
(33:37):
I would say not being afraid of the football and
coming right back for it. I think that's such a
huge thing for Bryce Young slash any quarterback throwing to
him to take advantage of. I think that's a real
quarterback friendly trade to have. But also nobody has mistaken
him for a wrestler. At the line of scrimmage, he
gets beat if cornerbacks get hands on you guess what
(33:57):
you can learn from that. So all that to say,
it doesn't mean that he's going to fail if he
doesn't achieve eight hundred or more yards this year. Like
DJ Moore gave us more than eight hundred yards and
we all felt pretty good about what his career was
going to be. And sometimes you get confused on that
or not confused, but sometimes you're mistaken on that. People
(34:19):
are writing it about Kelvin Benjamin. Kevin Benjamin had a
one thousand yard season and had the injury. Never did
too much after that. In fact, surprisingly so got traded
mid season because Marty Hernie felt Devin Funches and Kelvin
Benjamin were both ex receivers. He didn't want to duplicate.
So you get rid of KB we're all kind of
we're surprised, and then eventually it turned out by far
(34:42):
to be the right move. So all that I just
especially at receiver Flounder. These guys that are Pro bowlers,
they hit very quickly. They show you something in year one,
maybe not the first half of year one, but they
show you something year one. So even if t Maac
he doesn't show you a lot in the first six
weeks of the season, we can still be patient then.
(35:05):
But if he doesn't show you something by the second
half and it's like okay, like six hundred, fine, I
just want to I want to go into next season
knowing for sure that they hit at least a double
with their first round pick, which is it nothing, and
maybe even hit a triple to home run, getting some
of those pro bowlers. Let's move on, we'll come back. Well,
(35:25):
we got plenty more to get too from the Panthers
meal because they gave us a lot during FanFest and
over the first two weeks of training camp. We got
to give you a Mark Spain real estate sports flash
real quickly time now foresaid sports flash with the floundg
about to drop that knowledge on you because of him
being out of fan fest, him collecting all this audio.
Flound dog going to help you out in a big way.
Speaker 2 (35:46):
Hit me. I need the sports flash all right, Walker.
Speaker 3 (35:51):
And over the weekend, the Atlanta Braves d the Cincinnati
Reds of course, played in the Speedway Classic, and on
Saturday night, tried multiple times to get this underway. It
didn't end up working out for Major League Baseball. Still
I think a success though, because they come back on
Sunday and play this game here.
Speaker 2 (36:13):
A three run home run in this game.
Speaker 3 (36:16):
Was the difference for the Braves as they beat the
Cincinnati Reds.
Speaker 2 (36:20):
Four to two.
Speaker 3 (36:22):
This was the Braves I'm trying to see here. Was
it the lone win of the series for the Braves
until they won the first? So yeah, they they didn't
end up winning this series over the Reds. That's a
pretty nice series win over a team that's fighting for
a wildcard spot.
Speaker 2 (36:40):
Five hundred. You'll take it if you're Atlanta.
Speaker 3 (36:41):
Yeah, so I think that's definitely something that you can
build on. Eli White, by the way, the guy with
the three run homer in this game. It did not
did not reach the seats at blich at Bristol Motor Speedway,
though it did land on the track and they had
someone that tried to throw it into the stands.
Speaker 2 (36:57):
Walker was an older man. It did not go No. Yeah,
you hate to see it. That's tough stuff, by the way.
Speaker 1 (37:03):
Also, Austin Riley another stint on the IL, because that's
what Braves do these days. If you're a member of
the starting rotation or if you're just among their better players,
odds are you're going to be either on the sixty
day IL or you're just gonna be on the IL.
Speaker 2 (37:16):
Somewhere down the line.
Speaker 1 (37:18):
It's Winston Walker floundg filling in for Wes as the
co host today. We got plenty more Panthers topics to
get to on the other side. Sports Radio ninety two
Sven WFNZ Ah, nice job from Floundy. We're gonna play
(37:38):
King of the Hill Panthers hot take addition in just
a moment. So I got some wild takes and I
want to pin him against one another, and then we're
going to figure out by the end of the take
list which one has the highest likelihood of happening this
upcoming season. Before we get to that segment, I did
want to read a few text messages about t mac
(38:00):
blah blah. Probably what he hears listening to. That's okay,
we can make some cash, get filthy rich while we
do this segment. Blah blah blah rights in on the
text line, the whole potential thing Charlotte sports fans have
to hear it's I guess he doesn't finish it, but
he's quite tired of it. He's saying guys need to
hit at this point, Chump writes in on the text line,
(38:21):
I predict that t Mac will come out of the
gate strong, but then he'll draw the number one corner
from every team going forward. He'll hit the rookie wall.
Temper your expectations. Todd from Denver, writing in the Jeremy
Chin should have won Rookie of the Year from Chase
Young didn't have all the hype. Yeah, I mean you
could have argued that. I guess. I still think I
would have given it to Chase, but both guys not
(38:42):
living up to the hype that they had after their
first season. Here's one question too. Bagel Guy writes this
in Walker. Can we say that Morgan's job is tied
to T Mac? I actually don't think so. I don't
think it's that I think he needs to hit for
us to not have any questions about Dan Morgan. But
(39:03):
when Bagel Guy says basically, is Dan going to get
fired if t Mac doesn't hit? I don't think that's
necessarily the case. I think that might be a little
too strong. I would say, if Bryce Young and Dave Canalis,
if they can bring you a nice head coach, QB Combo,
plus you still have Theelan who I don't think is
gonna be bad this year. I think that you have
enough young talent at wide receiver to help you out
(39:25):
at least a little bit. Offensive line is going to
be good. I don't think that team Ac not hitting
as a pro bowler means Dan Morgan is going to
get fired real quickly.
Speaker 2 (39:33):
What say you?
Speaker 3 (39:34):
I would say that his job rides more with the
success of Dave Canalis than it does a specific player
that's been drafted so far.
Speaker 2 (39:42):
Now that's so far.
Speaker 3 (39:43):
If he ends up drafting let's say that for some reason,
Bryce is not the guy a quarterback and he has
to go draft a quarterback. That's when you typically say, okay,
this Rod, this is the guy that sort of carries
his job status.
Speaker 2 (39:58):
I think that's tough to really put that all on
t Mac.
Speaker 3 (40:01):
I think I do think that if both wide receivers
him and Xavier League Get are misses, that's that's a
tough look for him.
Speaker 2 (40:09):
There's no doubt about that.
Speaker 3 (40:10):
But I don't think you could say that his career
rides on the success of Team Mac.
Speaker 1 (40:15):
I think that's too strong. Okay, you're ready to play
King of the Hill. Let's do it, Panthers. Take addition,
I've only got a few here, so let's get to him.
Adam Thielen finishes fourth in receiving yards. Basically, this is
how we're going to set it up. What do we
think has the higher likelihood of happening in twenty twenty five.
So Adam Thielen finishes fourth on the team in receiving yards,
presumably behind Tea Mac Jalen Koker. And then maybe take
(40:39):
your pick Xavier League get if you are a huge
believer in Hunter Renfro whatever. But Adam Thielen finishes fourth
in receiving yards or Adam Thielen gets traded at the deadline,
which one of those two do you think has a
higher likelihood of happening?
Speaker 4 (40:51):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (40:51):
I think it's stealing gets traded at the deadline.
Speaker 3 (40:53):
I think that it would be based off of what
you see from Tet. Tet becomes the number one receiver,
really starts looking the part. Maybe Lagett is starting to
sort of hit his stride a little bit, and they say,
you know what, we also maybe kept Hunter Renf for
a round. We've got a guy in the slot that
can create something, can get open. I think we're gonna
move off of Adam Thielen, allow him to go to
(41:15):
a contender, pick up some draft capital, and just kind
of go from there. I could see that scenario happening.
Fourth in receiving yards. I don't see it, man, because
he's still gonna be such a big part of what
they do early in the season. I do like Jalen
Cocher a lot. I noticed Jalen Coker did not play.
I don't think a single snap, or if he did,
it was very few snaps with the first team. While
(41:37):
he was out there the other night at FanFest, it
was typically Temac Feeling and Lee get So I find
it hard to believe that he's gonna be fourth on
the team in receiving and that's that's That's.
Speaker 1 (41:48):
A lot the Coker projection is kind of hard to
figure out. I know Wes is obviously all in. I
know a lot of people are are WR two he's
got h Yeah, well he's got it, and it kind
of even the best future receiver, right, I think.
Speaker 2 (42:02):
He's the best receiver on this team, which I.
Speaker 1 (42:05):
Hey, future, but Coker's good. Coker's good, so it's weird
that he's getting second team reps. But that's all right,
so we'll move on. I agree with you. I think
something important to note there is if THELAN wants to
go chase a ring, because we all think this is
going to be his last season, and I think both
sides would have to agree to it. I think Dan
(42:25):
Morgan is a very player friendly GM, so I think
THELAN would have to say to Dan and company, I
do want to go try to get a super Bowl ring.
Even if Carolina is making nice progress. I don't think
we're going to win a super Bowl this year. So
if you can trade me to a super Bowl contender
and you feel like you're getting fair enough value, cool,
(42:46):
I'll go with it. But other than that, I want
to stay here. All that to say, I think you're right.
I think him getting traded at the deadline has the
higher likelihood of happening. All right, So Adam Thlen gets
traded at the deadline or Princely uman Ellen leads the
team in sacks, what do you think has a better
chance of happening.
Speaker 3 (43:04):
I would still stick with Thilan leading or getting traded.
I think Princely has a chance to really be a
factor off of the edge. We saw him the other night.
He was out there a decent amount at edge rusher.
They do throw a lot of three edge rusher packages
out there, which I thought was very interesting. That's something
(43:25):
that we have not seen from Agio everro before we're
going to see it. I think this year, I find
it hard to believe that a guy like Patrick Jones
isn't going to lead this team in sacks. And I
think with prince Lely, the thing that you worry about
is the level of physicality that he's going to face
at the NFL level.
Speaker 2 (43:42):
If he was a guy that was.
Speaker 3 (43:43):
A little more polished in that area, I think you
would potentially go with that as the King of the
Hill statement here. But I still think thelan because of
the where the wide receiving corps is at and how
much confidence we have in that group continuing to grow
throughout the year.
Speaker 1 (43:58):
I'd still go thling. Okay, I agree with you. Perhaps
I should have put that one last, But I think
Prince of leading the team in sacks is a little rich.
It's like, I don't think it's a dumb take. I
think it's really bold, and sometimes there's a fine line
between bald and dumb. I still think it's in the
bald area. If you really like him, yeah, that's fine.
It's crazy. Last one Trevor Atn, who had some nice
(44:22):
moments the last couple of weeks. Trevor Atn ends up
as the backup running back to Juba Hubbard instead of
Rico Dawddell. Is that a better Does that have a
better chance of happening than feeling getting traded at the
deadline or would you still choose the ladder?
Speaker 2 (44:36):
I would definitely choose the ladder.
Speaker 3 (44:38):
You don't think after the other night, I thought Rico
Daddle looked really good. Okay, in some of the snaps
that he had, I thought he honestly and in the
other night he ran the ball a little bit better
than Cuba did. Now that's not to say that he's
going to start over Tuba or anything like that. But
I really do think you can see why this guy
is a thousand yard back. You can see why he's
(44:58):
a guy that we're looking at and saying could be
involved in the passing game, because we saw that a
little bit the other night. I find it hard to
believe no slight on ETN because I thought ETN had
some good moments the other night. But Rico Daddell, being
a guy that has the history that he has, I
find it hard to see TN overtaking him this year.
Speaker 1 (45:17):
So a theme of the takes that I had on
Panthers takes King of the Hill, it was how much
are you looking towards the future in twenty twenty five
with guys like Feelin getting traded to make room for
your younger receivers, Princely leading the team in sacks right away,
and a rookie in ETN taking over for Rico daddle
