Speaker 1 (00:08):
Only on Sports Radio ninety two point seven A half
m y a ufnzy fine, He's.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
The West and Walker Show. Even a crowd knows what's
coming there.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
Happy No Rules Friday, folks, WESN Walker Sports Radio ninety
two to seven wfn Z, and I can't wait to
experience and celebrate a no Rules Friday with everyone. Let
us know what you're feeling today, what your thoughts are.
Dave Canalis has some interesting comments coming out really right
now having spoken with Kay Adams, who is in attendance

(00:46):
at Panthers training camp today, and Kay Adams does a
great job of getting some really good analysis out of
a Bryce Young out of a Dave Canalis that we've
heard in previous interviews between the two and so okay,
no different here, getting some good stuf on if we'll
see the starters during pre season Wes. We've been asked
that question, I don't know five times this week, so

(01:06):
we're getting some information there. I thought there was an
interesting comment from the head coach on feeling a little
more comfortable with Bryce Young and because of that now
they can be more aggressive offensively, so right off of
the bat, as usually is the case with Panthers' training camp.
We got valuable information coming in as we start the show,
and I'm glad because we're in the content business and

(01:28):
it seems like we're getting content.

Speaker 3 (01:29):
Yep, Panthers practice going down. Kay Adams out there, so
that's a big deal. So we'll have plenty of stuff
to break down and people will get some information and
I think will make them a little happy if you're
a preseason ticket by.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
All right, So really, maybe this is how we do it.
Maybe we just go ahead and address some of the
Kay Adams comments and then we can cut that up,
try to play it on the other side of the
break with some of the other tweets that we're getting.
We can have our second edition of we have the tweets.
We can do that in just a moment as well.
But we got to try to consolidate all of our

(02:00):
information and organize this show with the chaotic energy that
comes in on a no rules Friday. So Kay Adams,
Dave Canalis speaking at Panthers training camp, and it's what
everybody's been asking us here Wes. Dave Canalis confirms that
we will see the starters in the Panthers' first two
preseason games.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
There you go.

Speaker 1 (02:18):
Last year, we didn't see him, and then the Panthers
got off to a horrid, horrific insert terrible adjective in there.
That's what we got the first two games, and it
led to Bryce's benching. A lot of people felt confirmation
bias pointing to preseason when we didn't see a lot
of the starters. I think we only saw him, was
it one series in the third preseason game. Yes, yeah,

(02:41):
we didn't see him a second series because they scored
a touchdown that was a yeah, So we saw him
one series. Dave Canalis confirms and says you will see
the starters in preseason in weeks one, preseason week one,
preseason week two for a series or two, and discusses
the importance of that. Have to imagine as soon and
as they get off to an zero and two start

(03:02):
playing horribly the way they did, have to imagine. That
had a lot of weight in making this decision this year.

Speaker 2 (03:08):
Yeah. I had been.

Speaker 3 (03:09):
Saying it and these teams not playing people, and you
can say, well, you know college football, they come right
in and they play games and you get some sloppy
football and doesn't look as great.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
But I think for the pros too.

Speaker 3 (03:21):
You have to get out there and you have to
play in that game speed to be able to kind
of get sort of a rhythm, because it's like it
would be the equivalent of jogging and then you jog
all the way into the Olympic stadium and then you
have to run in the one hundred meter dash, and
that's what I would liken it too. It's like you're
going from a three quarters job to a full on

(03:43):
sprint when you get into the regular season, and that's
hard for a lot of guys to do. It's hard
to adjust to, it's hard to get that rhythm and
it is going to come out and you don't want
to be the team that your offense isn't in sync.
And a couple of turnovers on your first couple of
jobs because you're just getting used to the speed of
the game, that stuff could cause you to lose. So
I'm with you. I think that it certainly did have

(04:04):
an impact on his thinking.

Speaker 1 (04:05):
I don't know if you could have done this two
years in a row with the way that things started
last year, and it was a huge talking point. So
I think this decision it was made up after Week two,
maybe even after Week one. All right, I'm just gonna
play them next year. Injuries they're scary, and we're actually
gonna have a segment about Panthers injury. Hopefully the Panthers
experience injury regression. They were one of the most injured

(04:27):
teams in all of football last year. San Francisco is
number one, which I'm sure is not a shock to
you at all. Shouldn't be a shock to anybody with
the amount of injuries they had. Panthers are in that
second tier. If San Francisco is in a tier all
by themselves, Panthers are up there as well. So injuries
they do matter. I am one that is usually concerned
about injuries in preseason, but I don't know if Dave

(04:47):
Canal's had a choice. I wonder if even Dave Tepper.
We won't ever know this, but I wonder if even
Dave Tepper said, Hey, Dave, mister coach Canalis, you want
to play those starters in preseason? Huh yes, sir, Okay,
sounds good. I will do it. I will do it
in my second year as head coach. All right, a
little late, but it's okay. Trying to consolidate everything. Let's

(05:08):
pull up to the scene. Let's open up the doors.
Mister bus driver Anthony Flounder, pag nada. Let's get off
the bus.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
We looked good getting off the bus.

Speaker 4 (05:15):
I got.

Speaker 1 (05:16):
Speaking of Kay Adams, she said, here here are the
goods for all of you preseason snap count sickos. One
of us is Kay Adams when it comes to football.
Speaking of being sickos, all you sikos, I imagine watched
the Hall of Fame game last night with the Chargers

(05:38):
winning thirty four to seven over the Detroit Lions. It's
something we didn't even really talk about yesterday. Kind of
snuck up on me, to be honest, definitely did to
me as well.

Speaker 3 (05:48):
When I was getting dressed yesterday, I saw it on
the bottom line and I said, oh, man, Hall of
Fame game. Same, That's exactly how it hit me. Watching
ESPN they discussed it. They were really discussing honoring some
of the members that were to enter the Hall of Fame,
and then of course the Hall of Fame game ensues.
Did you watch it all last night? Take a little
bit went.

Speaker 2 (06:07):
I was watching shows.

Speaker 3 (06:08):
I was binging a show, but then I went to
it and then you know how YouTube has the feature
where you can catch up through key play.

Speaker 2 (06:13):
Yeah, so I was just watching the key plays when the.

Speaker 1 (06:15):
Game really really just kind of tuned in every once
in a while, saw some drives, got my little little
appetizer of football before the main course when I dive
all the way in and become a football glutton during
the regular season.

Speaker 2 (06:28):
Did you watch ya Siico over there?

Speaker 5 (06:31):
Some?

Speaker 2 (06:32):
Okay?

Speaker 4 (06:32):
But I was doing the Charlotte f C games. Oh,
I couldn't be under locked in. I was doing the
football game as opposed to the football games.

Speaker 1 (06:40):
So well, here's a couple of football. Is what you
were doing?

Speaker 5 (06:43):
It not great? Not great last night?

Speaker 2 (06:45):
No it wasn't.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
Yeah, I hated Charlotte FC falls by the way four
to one last night in the League Cup is what
they were playing.

Speaker 5 (06:53):
See Warres took it to them.

Speaker 2 (06:55):
So unfortunate news there. Willie p had you covered.

Speaker 1 (06:57):
And I believe the last hour at least a couple
of seconds on Charlotte Sports today. So I think a
couple of the takeaways from a Hall of Fame game
real quickly.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
One West.

Speaker 1 (07:05):
I know it's not like you're a Panthers fan and
I'd get it, but you were definitely around for everything,
the Kyle Allen experience that happened here in Carolina.

Speaker 2 (07:15):
I thought about that this morning too.

Speaker 1 (07:16):
So Kyle plays last night, and I saw my timeline
light up with the hey, do you remember that time
Kyle played in Carolina won I believe five games, and
went on a stretch where he did not throw an interception.
I just want people to understand during that stretch, that
might have been the most diabolical conversation surrounding a quarterback

(07:40):
situation in Panthers history. Smart football players, smart football people
were discussing how Kyle Allen was a better quarterback for
a Panther system than Cam Newton.

Speaker 2 (07:52):
I do remember that.

Speaker 1 (07:54):
I definitely was Look, sometimes you're on the wrong side
of history. Sometimes you are on the TAKERI history that is.
I am proud to say I was on the one
hundred percent right side of the Kyle Allen mania that
took place here in the Queen City. People were talking crazy.
Do people remember that? I genuinely want to know. Fandal
text line seven oh four five seven oh ninety six ten.

(08:15):
I was transported back to a time where, yes, Lewis Riddick,
who has had great football takes before, called Pat Mahomes
the Ferrari before he became the Ferrari has talked about
Jade and Daniels being the dude. You shared that opinion
as well. Jane Daniels was the dude. It's no hate
for Lewis Riddick, but one of the wildest takes I
heard was when he talked about Kyle Allen being the

(08:37):
guy for the Panthers and being way better in this
system and how they should just move on from Cam
and start Kyle Allen. Oh boy, that was a bad take.
I was transported to that kind of time. So this
was obviously after the MVP season. Of course, I was
trying to remember when that happened. Would have been twenty nineteen,
twenty twenty. Yeah, so with Kyle Allen, Yeah, I.

Speaker 3 (08:56):
Do remember some of that talk, man, But you know
how it goes and spurs the backup comes in plays
really well for a couple of games while the starter's out,
and yeah, you're going to start to get that chat.
Of the hot takes are going to be coming.

Speaker 1 (09:07):
I just I'm trying to think of a bigger mania,
Like I got bit by the PJ Walker bug a
little bit because of the Tampa Bay game. Remember that
the Tampa Bay game was I know, people just want
to say one play.

Speaker 2 (09:19):
He had one play and it was against the Falcons.

Speaker 1 (09:21):
On that seventy yard in the air throw to DJ Moore,
DJ Moore takes his helmet off, we missed the extra point,
we lose the game in devastating fashion. Tough times around
here as a Panthers fan. But the throw by PJ
was unreal. And then also the Tampa Bay Buccaneers game
that he played the whole game, he was great. So
I got bit a little by the bug. No, I

(09:42):
did not want him to be the starting quarterback for
the rest of time. But the Kyle Allen stuff, I
think that's the craziest we got as a fan base.
And we've been pretty damn crazy around these parts. That
Kyle Allen stretch was wild.

Speaker 2 (09:53):
Yeah. I had a couple picks last night though he did.

Speaker 1 (09:56):
He did, and then he threw a ton of picks
after going five six game without throwing one, and then
they just came in bunches and he couldn't help but
throw interceptions.

Speaker 2 (10:04):
It was like he was addicted to throwing interceptions.

Speaker 1 (10:06):
Yeah, people riding in I remember that be at Delvis
the Rock. I remember that bs from Riddick. He was
and is still out of his damn mind, dumb ass
take all right, Yeah, okay.

Speaker 2 (10:19):
I like it. I bet you do.

Speaker 1 (10:22):
Flounder, do not like the Lewis Riddick take here check
from Delvis the Rock. Other people writing in about that
time as well. The other takeaway from the Hall of
Fame game last night virtual measurement starting to.

Speaker 2 (10:33):
Dab on a tennis world.

Speaker 3 (10:35):
Somebody had a funny capture saying, and can't wait to
see a team lose a game by pixel.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
That's gonna happen. It's gonna happen.

Speaker 4 (10:42):
The whole stadium gonna do the same thing. Are they
gonna have like the long view? And then it zooms
in on the football and everybody's gonna be like in tennis.

Speaker 1 (10:49):
Oh yeah, do you miss the chain?

Speaker 2 (10:54):
Gang? Are you? Are you one that once.

Speaker 1 (10:57):
The old guys struggling out there in the third quart
to carry their chains all the way to midfield and
see if the nose of the football is past the
first down mark.

Speaker 3 (11:07):
Saying gang vary nostalgic man. But you know, if you
didn't have teams like the Kansas City Chiefs taking first
downs obvious first downs from people, we wouldn't have this problem,
you know, So I think that's the main thing about it.
I would love to keep the chains guys, but you know,
when they're seem like they're on the take a little bit,
then you got to go to the computers and then
I'll see how they can manipulate that as well.

Speaker 2 (11:27):
Yeah, they're going to do it. Roger Goodell.

Speaker 1 (11:29):
I did see a funny meme of here's how the
virtual measurements are going to work when they're evaluating a
Kansas City first down situation. And it was, of course
a straight line and then it curved around the football
to make sure that they either stopped or the first
down from happening on defense or got the first down
on offense. I just think it makes too much sense.
I understand the nostalgia of the human error. We do

(11:52):
this in baseball more so than we do it in football,
but the chain gain, like, that's pretty nineteen sixties football.
If you're using the same way of measuring a first
down that you did when they were wearing leather helmets,
I feel like that league, with all that money, we
can probably find a better way to measure if there

(12:13):
is a first down and then just not have any controversy,
which I know what's baked in is that we like
the controversy. We liked talking about it. That was a
first down. No it wasn't. It breeds conversation for a
ten minute segment. But it's it's easy. It's so easy
to just be able to put up the hawkeye like
they do in tennis and see if you got the

(12:34):
first down or not. And yet we're still using quote
unquote technology in the form of sixty year olds trotting
out to midfield.

Speaker 2 (12:43):
But what do you see over there, Bob? Do you
need an index card? All right? Does the index card fit?
It does? No first down? We can do better than this.

Speaker 3 (12:52):
Yeah, And the saying is a little nostalgic for me too, man,
because I used to like to in high school on
a Thursday night JV games. I used to love running,
being a part of the chain gang and going out
there on my thing. So but no, anytime you can
use technology for the betterment. Like I said, we've seen
too much human era in the past. It's been fairly effective,
but we've seen our Sheff human era. So now you

(13:14):
can be able to have a more accurate measurement man
to be able to get some of these clutch calls.

Speaker 1 (13:20):
I picture you, Wes as the guy that might have
had a lunch room cookie in your pocket and you
handed it to the chain gang and said, hey, remember
this in the third quarter when we need one from him.

Speaker 2 (13:31):
I picture you as that guy because you were the first.

Speaker 1 (13:33):
One I believe during the duels and the wars that
we would have via draft picks whatever. I think you
were the first one to play dirty by giving Phidias
Snickers bar.

Speaker 2 (13:44):
No, that came after.

Speaker 3 (13:46):
I believe you did something the day before soire.

Speaker 2 (13:49):
With fire you brought.

Speaker 1 (13:51):
Yeah, what I really do think happened, if I'm not mistaken,
was I think I used to sound in a way
and then I was trying to clearly trying to do
something to my advantage, and then you said video, I
got a Snickers bar for you. Come here, Come here, buddy.
You won it, and you won that day. I will
say that was that was a smart move by you.
It was dirty, but it doesn't mean.

Speaker 3 (14:11):
It will happen Joshua, because I could I could swear
that you gave him something first. Well, you did something
to incentivize him before I wouldn't put it past me.
I wouldn't put it past me one bit.

Speaker 1 (14:23):
I do have a question before we move on to
the next break and talk about some of the Panther
Panthers training camp updates rolling in. We will play we
have the meats, but the real question is, with Jared
Allen being honored last night as the next former Panther,
what are the next NFL players to enter the Hall
of Fame? Who have excuse me, what athletes have the

(14:45):
best swan songs here in Charlotte. They could have played
for the Hornets, they could have played for the Panthers.
Just what athletes have had the best swan songs the
writing off into the sunsets, which is exactly what Jared
Allen did in his retirement video. Who are those guys
who are the best examples of those guys that have
played here in the Queen City. Will answer that question,
take in some of your text messages on the other side,

(15:07):
and then give you some Panthers training camp updates. It's
Wes and Walker Sports Radio ninety two to seven WFNZ
westn Walker Bag Sports Radio ninety two seven WFNZ asking

(15:29):
the question before we went to commercial break one of
the best Swan songs, the best I do years in
sports history, the Queen City Sports History seven oh four, five,
seven oh ninety six ten. Real quickly, before I dive
into some of those answers, I try to think of
some Hornets Wes, and there are none that can compete
all of the Swansaw gears in Charlotte Hornet's history. I

(15:52):
don't think there are any that you could put up
against some of the best Panthers right into the Sunset
years that I can't think of any.

Speaker 3 (16:00):
I was trying to think of athletes period around here
of substance that really had great Swan songs. I mean,
I guess maybe Pepper's the Second time Around comes to mind,
But I'm trying to think, like I mean, Thomas Davis
ended up going elsewhere. I guess Greg Olsen ended his
career here. Well, Greg was here for such a long time.
I don't know if he counts.

Speaker 1 (16:19):
I guess my point would be not individual seasons, but
guys that were here in Carolina and it was new
and that was their last year.

Speaker 2 (16:27):
I mean, it's the ton one.

Speaker 4 (16:27):
Who was great somewhere else and they came here and
closed out their career.

Speaker 3 (16:32):
Okay, I thought you were just saying swan song people
who ended their career beautifully here, That's what I was I.

Speaker 2 (16:37):
Was going to say, Coach K. Yeah, Coach K for Carolina.

Speaker 1 (16:40):
He had the best swan song for Carolina fans, no
doubt about that. People writing in a lot of panthers,
I don't. I think we can just neglect the hornets
part of this conversation because it's not Tony Parker, it's
not Robert Parrish, it's not any of Dwight Howard wasn't
even a swan song as he played OL. So it's

(17:01):
a lot of panthers. And I think Al Jefferson no,
because he played with the pacers afterwards. And part of this,
I guess is up for interpretation. Maybe we need to
fine tune the rules on this. But I think for
the most people, for the for the most part, people
have right on the text line. So a lot of
people writing in, you know, Jared Allen having two sacks
and that Super Bowl year. I think the most underrated

(17:24):
final year of football for this type of conversation that
we're having here in Carolina is Charles Tillman, who was
the starting cornerback opposite of Josh Norman, who was great
with the Bears for so long. Plays his final year
of football in twenty fifteen on that Super Bowl run,
has a couple of interceptions, has some passes defended, was
the starter on that defense. I actually think his swansong

(17:46):
year was better than what Jared Allen had. But we
remember Jared Allen Moore because Allen's a Hall of Famer,
kind of a wild guy, fun sack celebration. I think
people remember him a little bit more so, AJ writes
in Roman Harper, which is a good choice along with
Kurt Coleman, except Roman Harper shout out to kb's guy.
Roman Harper actually went back to New Orleans for his

(18:08):
last year in the NFL, So I don't know if
we can count what Roman did.

Speaker 2 (18:12):
Kevin Green. Kevin Green, I think he went somewhere else too.

Speaker 3 (18:15):
No, he came for the last day's back from San Francisco.
Last two centurns in Carolina had double digitus acts.

Speaker 1 (18:21):
That would be that would be an excellent choice. I
think Reggie White is one that people would mention five
and a half sacks here in two thousand with the Panthers.
So Reggie White Kevin Green, some of the later defensive ends.
There are people that wrote in the answer has to
be Sam Mills. Sam Mills would be good if you
wanted to say three year run because he played here

(18:42):
for a little while. And then, yeah, if you're going
to count that, Sam Mills is maybe the most important
figure in Panthers history. So Sam Mills would probably be
that answer. A lot of people writing against Stephen Davis.
Stephen Davis had the fourteen hundred yard year during their
Super Bowl run and oh three, gets injured the next season,
tries to play again, doesn't quite play very well five

(19:05):
hundred rushing yards because of the injury, and then he
actually goes to the Rams and has his last year there.
So Steven Davis, I thought you might be right, But
he actually plays in the NFL a few more seasons
after the Super Bowl run that we had.

Speaker 2 (19:16):
So it has to be a Panther and ain't gonna
be a warning. I agree with you.

Speaker 1 (19:20):
Has to be, and probably the defensive players that we're
looking at. Oh god, somebody said Kurt Rambis. Okay, I
don't think it could be Kurt Rambis. Let's give you
some Panthers training camp updates. We have some sound for you.
Dave Canal is sitting down with Kay Adams. Here's Kay
discussing with Dave if they're going to play the starters
in the first two preseason games or not.

Speaker 2 (19:41):
I'm hoping to see a connection between Bryce Young and
he maybe in the first preseason game against the Browns.

Speaker 5 (19:47):
What is the plan? Will we see him in this
first one?

Speaker 6 (19:49):
Absolutely, My plan is to play a series or two
with the starters for the first two preseason games. So
I'm excited to get them out there. It goes beyond
just the reps in the game. It's the before, it's
the morning of, It's what you eat, it's how you
mentally prepare, it's going through your process of body readiness
going into the games. Those are valuable reps as much
as going out there and actually playing the game. So

(20:13):
I'm excited to kind of throw that at the guys,
especially for some of the younger players, the rookies and
all that, But certainly are starters just playing together and
feeling what that feels like to prep from the night
before all the way going.

Speaker 2 (20:24):
Up to it.

Speaker 1 (20:25):
Dave Canal is confirming that the starters are going to
play in the first two preseason games. Now, we're happy
that they're going to play, but are you okay with
the amount they're going to play because he mentions we'll
play them a series or two in each of the
first two games. Is that enough to suffice for Wes Bryan? Yeah,
I think so.

Speaker 3 (20:40):
I think that's good, especially if you're able to get
two series out of those guys.

Speaker 2 (20:44):
I think the fans want to see it.

Speaker 3 (20:45):
But also two of the players needed to get out
there to get themselves acclimated, because to just be practicing
for as long as they do, with as many things
as they've taken out of practice now not as physical
things that a nature. And then you consider the they
go those two weeks, then the extra week with nothing
and then step right in and play.

Speaker 2 (21:04):
That's pretty tough. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (21:05):
And I'm actually one that doesn't care as much about
playing the starters. I do want to preserve these guys
that think injuries they do happen in the pre like
bubble wrap. I like bubble wrapping the preseason.

Speaker 2 (21:15):
I do.

Speaker 1 (21:17):
In all kidding aside, there are some studies that suggest
it actually doesn't all that much matter, but I don't.
My point against myself is that I don't think Dave
Canalis really had a choice. I guess you could just
say I'm not going to play them and then believe everybody.
I'm the head coach of this football team, and I
don't give a damn. I'm going to decide to do
what I want to do. But I don't know. It

(21:40):
just saves a headache. Play the guys a first series
or two, and I'm not against it. I just am
not all hell, yeah, play them. It's really important. There
are studies to suggest that there isn't and I go
back to it all the time because this is classic
Radio Baby in August, we're going to talk about should
these teams play the starters or not? And then we
see Sean McVeigh who doesn't. It's going to be a

(22:01):
topic on first take, probably especially if they lose the
first couple of weeks. Except we've seen the Rams not
play their starters and then go off on a crazy
run to begin the season. And like there are examples
twofold Dave Canoles wants to play the guys. I think
it is good. I think you have turnover here. I
think you have new wide receivers. You want to get
more game reps, with if you want to play him

(22:21):
a couple series in each of these two games, I'm
all for it.

Speaker 2 (22:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (22:24):
I remember when you brought that up about the Rams too,
and I remember looking that up. If I'm not mistaken,
they did have some tough starts in there here or there.
Because that's one of those things I always question. I'm like, well,
how did the older players do it? Like the old
players would get in there and play Patrick Mahomes, he plays,
Tom Brady would play like a lot of those guys.
They would play, and they would talk about the importance

(22:45):
of getting that rhythm in the preseason so that they
could feel like they could hit the ground running when
they were able to get into a regular season football game.
And I always said, if the best of the best
get out there and do it, why can't everybody else.
And then when you talk about, as I said, you know,
players before, like this just kind of became a thing
I guess maybe four three four years ago something like

(23:06):
that where teams.

Speaker 2 (23:07):
Before and that because McVeigh did it, if.

Speaker 3 (23:09):
People wanted to stop doing that, and I was just like, yo,
like other players have done it, and great players like
to do it and talk about how it benefits them.
So I just think it's stupid to sit the guys
in a preseason It's and that's strong for me. But
to each their own on it. And if Dave Canalis
wants to play them, play them. Last year went horribly wrong.

Speaker 1 (23:30):
I don't know if Bryce Young plays the first two
preseason games that he doesn't throw that first interception. Maybe
it does, maybe it does change the first throw is
an interception.

Speaker 2 (23:39):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (23:40):
But play them now you don't even have to worry
about it, which is nice for them. Right, Like, now
what you get to do is if you do start
off oh and two, now all the hatred your way
is going to be for the way that you coach
in the first two regular season games, and we won't
have anything to go to in the preseason. So at
least in that twisted way, you get a quote unquote win.
Here's more from Dave can He trusts Bryce Young.

Speaker 2 (24:01):
Now.

Speaker 1 (24:02):
I think it's easy to see that he trusts Bryce,
especially with the way that Bryce played after he was
inserted back into the lineup against the Denver Broncos. And
here he is saying that, now I'll call my offense
a little differently with this level of trust.

Speaker 5 (24:14):
What's the biggest change maybe that we'll see from last
year to now.

Speaker 6 (24:17):
Offensively, First of all, we're always going to try to
find a way to run the ball.

Speaker 2 (24:20):
That's just in my DNA.

Speaker 6 (24:22):
But with that, we have a lot of different things
we can throw at defenses, you know, just stretching the field,
being more aggressive on first down. You know, I think
that was kind of one thing coming off of last year.
As I ran the ball a lot, I was trying
to guarantee we got runs. We can be more aggressive
in those situations, especially because of how much I trust Bryce.
The further we got into the season last year, it's like,

(24:44):
call your babies, don't don't leave this game without calling
your favorite sexiest plays that we have.

Speaker 2 (24:49):
Just go for it.

Speaker 6 (24:50):
And that was brad Izach, you know, encouraging me. He's like, hey,
be aggressive, let's not take these plays back into the
locker room after the game.

Speaker 2 (24:57):
And Bryce gives us the confidence to be able to
do that. Player sexy plays, Okay, depth, that's what I
learned here today.

Speaker 1 (25:05):
That's what I've learned too. Okay, that's what I'm learning
to love it. I love that now. I do think
you're gonna see a difference in calling these plays, and
I think you saw it a little bit as the
second part of the season was going on.

Speaker 2 (25:16):
Last year.

Speaker 1 (25:17):
Wes Josh Norris is one to bring up this stat
all the time that Bryce and this Panthers offense they
were attacking downfield a lot.

Speaker 2 (25:26):
Last year. They were doing a bunch of short stuff.

Speaker 1 (25:28):
They'd give tube of the ball, usually twenty times a game,
and then they'd look to attack downfield with excel streaming.
Now you'll have team ac Adam Thielen, I think caught
more patent not. I think I know the stats back
it up. Adam Thielen when healthy caught more passes downfield.

Speaker 2 (25:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (25:43):
I love that you have an aggressive style here that
you're a little more comfortable putting out there against any
of these teams that you're going to be suiting up against.

Speaker 2 (25:53):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (25:54):
I like that philosophy too. Man, get out there and
run some good stuff because you're trying to score. You're
only going to be in there for a couple of drives.
While you're in there, you might as well try to
make the most of it. There's no need to get
in there run it a couple of times up the
middle and throw a short pass and then just say, okay,
let's see what we got. Get in there, try to score.
I'm almost cursed. Yeah, okay, getting saw getting sawd. You

(26:16):
know what's funny, I had a dream the other night
that you cursed on air. I forgot to tell you
about that. Yeah, I don't know why.

Speaker 1 (26:20):
I was dreaming about West and Walker and all the
fun times that we have on this show and catch
a boy lacking. I had a dream that you drop
the F bomb on the microphone, And I also had
a dream though, like into that specific dream, we just
moved on and kept it pushing, and nobody called it.

Speaker 3 (26:35):
So John to think of scenarios and what that would happen,
I probably have to be like brought party throwing for
like three fifty and four touchdowns in the super Bowl,
and then people saying that's because there's supporting cast that
will probably make me drop an F bomb.

Speaker 5 (26:49):
Hey, let's be real here. If if somebody's dropping the
F bomb on this show, it's probably me.

Speaker 1 (26:53):
Oh for s, You're definitely the first one that comes
to mind. Yeah, no doubt. If somebody's gonna curse, you're
the most likely candidate. Holy I've done it before. I
haven't done it much, but I've done it before, and
usually let's not make a habit at him. No, no, no, no,
I definitely, I definitely don't want to make it a habit.
And we're not going to love the aggressive style that

(27:14):
Dave Canal is going to feel little more comfortable Roland
with this year. Let's get to some training camp updates.
We played it earlier in the week. I told you
uh inspired by Arby's. We have the meets, except we
have the tweets on the show hit a Floundy West
and Walker. We have the tweet Let's.

Speaker 2 (27:33):
Go through them.

Speaker 1 (27:33):
We got a bunch of people covering the Panthers over
there at Bank of America Stadium. Here are some of
the training camp updates. Vashti Hurt tweets out that Nick
Gorton was not practicing today. That's something that they were
going to ask Dave after practice. Haven't seen any comments
since then, but we'll take a look at that a
little bit later. Also, Mike Jackson not practicing or excuse me,
he is practicing today, so after I think having a

(27:55):
sore foot something happening, not anything too serious. Mike jack
was out there on the football field once more. I
think some of the biggest takeaways for me. Tight ends
had a day. In fact, that's exactly what Sheena Quick
tweeted out. Tight ends are having an All Caps day.
JT Sanders caught a touchdown pass Mitchell Elevins was getting
targeted in the red zone. In fact, bash Ty Hurt

(28:18):
and Joe Person they were tweeting out that JT did
a nice job adjusting to a ball from Andy Dalton
caught it over at Caleb Evans got into the end zone.
So j T Sanders wes starting to pick up some
momentum heading into this portion of training camp and the
tight ends overall, they were featured quite a bit on
this Friday.

Speaker 2 (28:35):
Yeah, he's a guy that.

Speaker 3 (28:36):
I'm expecting to take another step up as well too.
I mean, we saw some flashes from him last year.
The injuries slowed his momentum because before that he was
starting to become an integral part of that passing game,
and so I'm not surprised to hear that he's starting
to make a little bit of noise as well.

Speaker 1 (28:52):
Yeah, and JT lost weight looks explosive. According to Dave Canalis,
even earlier on in camp, Dave was quick to mention
that he thought he was having a good camp, just
that sometimes you don't get targeted. You have other wide
receivers that you're looking to throw to, your first round pick,
your first round pick from last year, your vet Adam Thielen.
So now JT getting a little more involved. Excel also

(29:14):
tweeted about today had a diving catch on a well
covered route against Mike Jackson in eleven on eleven's Bryce
threw it, oh only where Xcel could get it. So
a nice throw from Bryce to the wide receiver from
last year, j C. Horn, though, had a high point
interception on a fade to Excel. Horn through the ball
back to Bryce. Bryce playfully punted the football. So having

(29:35):
some fun back and forth, but Excel trying to get
him involved a little bit. How would you describe the
camp that you're seeing from last year's first round pick.

Speaker 3 (29:44):
It's been pretty quiet thus far. And I know we're
going to get into the receiver conversation a little bit
more later, but yeah, it's been pretty quiet, man, And
I think that you shouldn't necessarily be alarmed, but I mean, yeah,
you're not hearing a ton you've been hearing a lot
about TEDOROI. You've been hearing more about Jaylen Koca, Jimmy Horna,
You've been hearing about a lot of the top guys

(30:05):
in this receiving corps outside of XAL. Like you hear
about him making some routine plays. You might see a
highlight or two on social media of him making some
routine plays. I mean, I guess it's the sense of
no news is good news. But I would think that
you would like to hear so much about them since
we hear so much about them doing everything else.

Speaker 1 (30:24):
You know, I had to throw that in there. Yeah, yeah,
I can't look. Why are you saving people's lives? And
maybe that was a little strong. Why are you saving
people's four wheelers? Okay, I need you on the jugs machine.

Speaker 2 (30:35):
Yeah. I think a lot of it too.

Speaker 1 (30:37):
If you're on Twitter and you're looking for all these updates,
which is how you get them as quickly as possible, right,
this is where we go for our information on what's
happening over there a training camp, and then after the
fact you start to see the write ups on the
Athletic Carolina Blitz wherever you get a lot of your
Panthers content in the moment, which is what we're breaking
down right now. I think a lot of it is

(30:58):
what algorithms hit you. I think what tweets are hitting you,
because for fans at least, I think for us, we're
trying to do a good job of combing through as
much stuff as possible. Hey, are we seeing every single play?
I think for me it's been a tiny bit of
a mixed bag. Maybe more so I don't see. I'm
not out there, I'm not watching, So it's tough to

(31:19):
have these opinions based on what other people are talking about.
But the vibes seem to be it's a mixed bag,
more so for Xcel than really all the other receivers.
I would say, honestly, Cocher, we had a day or
two with Cocher, not been a long portion of hyping
him up. T Mac, I would say it was quiet,
very very early on. I think Saturday we started to

(31:40):
see him start to turn it up, and then it's
been all gas, no breaks. Jordan Schultz tweeting out, oh
T Mac looks amazing, looks like an all pro receiver, which,
don't get it twisted.

Speaker 2 (31:49):
I want to hear that stuff.

Speaker 1 (31:51):
I just I just got to press the brakes every
once in a night, a little bit, just for my
own good Jordan, you don't understand I'm scratching my neck
for wide receiver tweets all the time. I need to
make sure that I'm holding myself in check. Some sacks
we're mentioned today the via the Panthers beat. Mike Kaye
tweeted out that Turk Wharton had a sack in eleven
on eleven drills, Joe Person saying that there were two

(32:14):
coverage sacks, so different guys getting different moments of shine there.
I didn't see any specific offensive Lineman get beat. Joe
Person again described coverage sacks a couple of these times.
These are also really hard to call because you don't
know if Bryce would escape some of these pressures and
live action. But seeing more sacks reported about today than

(32:37):
we had the previous days in training camp.

Speaker 3 (32:40):
Yeah, and we're starting to hear about a little bit
more of the trenches, which is also something we've been
clamoring for. Still waiting to hear from some specific guys.
I know people want to hear more about the rookies
in here that they're and they're making a little bit
of nooids on maybe want them or Patrick Jones the second,
but either way it goes. Hearing from a Turk Wharton
hearing that he got a sack, I know is encouraging

(33:00):
for people as well.

Speaker 1 (33:01):
Yeah, Trevin Wallace got back there and had again. They're
putting quotes around sack because you're not allowed to hurt
the quarterback. But Trevin Wallace got in the backfield today.
So those are a couple of the tweets, and we'll
continue to provide some of those updates as we hear
from Dave Canalis after practice, and we'll get you sat
for Fan Fast happening tomorrow. Six point thirty is when
it starts over there at Bank of America Stadium. The

(33:22):
gates open at five o'clock for fans. Time now for
a Mark Spain Real Estate sports flash with flound Dog,
which you got floundy.

Speaker 4 (33:31):
All right, guys in this sports last year is brought
to you by Mark Spain Real Estate. Go to Markspain
dot com and get a guaranteed offer on your home
today and start packing the braves. Last night one of
the better offensive games that we've seen in Major League Baseball,
maybe this year. Twelve eleven victory over the Cincinnati Reds
in Cincinnati.

Speaker 5 (33:52):
I it was a game winning.

Speaker 4 (33:54):
Marcelo Zuna sacrifice fly that scored Matt Olson in the
tenth inning.

Speaker 5 (33:59):
That was the day prints the Braves would shut them down.

Speaker 4 (34:02):
Rice eel Iglesias came in shut down the Reds in
the bottom of the tenth inning, and so the Braves
win the first of what is a somewhat exciting series
because look, the Braves aren't great. The Reds are a
team that is fighting for the playoffs. But you have
the game over the weekend that will be at Bristol

(34:24):
Motor Speedway. That will be a spectacle as well, so
that'll be very cool. The team they're about to get underway.
The two teams about to get underway at twelve forty
starting today, So right around now they should be throwing
the first pitch.

Speaker 1 (34:38):
Yeah, twelve almost twelve forty two, So Braves and Reds
should be getting out there on the field. By the way,
I don't know if you mentioned this part. I was
reading some tweets and trying to read some text at
least at the beginning. But wild game last night because
the red scored excuse me, the Braves scored eight runs,
and then in that same inning, the Reds came back
and scored eight runs of their own. Yeah. Actually, you know,

(35:01):
you a bad baseball team and stuff like that happened,
and the Braves still found a way to win. There's
still a bad baseball Yeah. It was just the third
time in Major League history that both teams scored eight
or more runs in the same inning, just the third
time in baseball history, according to the Elias Sports Bureau,
and was also the third time in the expansion era

(35:22):
since nineteen sixty one that two teams combined for sixteen
or more hits in the same inning, with each team
posting eight. Like, that's a wild inning of baseball. If
you got to watch that one last night, then you
were in for a treat. One more segment to go
before we close out the hour. Terry mcclaurin reportedly requested
a trade. Michael Parsons also possibly could be out there.

(35:43):
Things getting a little heated down in Dallas. Dan Morgan,
does he have laser eyes for either one of these guys,
especially Micah Parsons. We'll talk about that on the other side.
Sports Radio ninety two to seven WFZ all right, Panthers Sichos,

(36:08):
do you want Terry McLaurin or do you want Micah
Parsons or do you want both? Let us know on
the Fandel text line seven oh four five, seven oh
ninety six ten. I have to pat myself on the
back west because for the first time ever there was
a good Pro Bowl level receiver out there on the
trade market that was reported on that I did not
immediately look to and say I kind of want them.

(36:30):
What would I be willing to give up for? That
didn't happen with Terry? And I'm a big Terry McLaurin fan.
Of course he's a good wide receiver, so you know
I'm a fan. But I did not immediately go to
the Panthers' roster, look how many draft picks they had,
what specific draft picks they had, and say, Okay, how
can I go get Terry?

Speaker 2 (36:45):
Do I want to give this up? Do I want
to give that up? I was like, I'm actually good.

Speaker 1 (36:50):
I would not advise the Panthers to be in on
the Terry McLaurin sweepstakes. And if you see the favorite
destinations for Terry, the Panthers are not anywhere listed in
the top like ten or twelve or whatever. I think
that's growth from me. I just want to commend myself
because I've been a wide receiver addict and I'm getting
over that. I guess now that they have all the
wide receivers and so I'm good on t MAC despite

(37:12):
because we got our own team act down here in Carolina.

Speaker 3 (37:14):
I was going to ask you and try to tempt you,
you know, being petty like I can be, and I
was gonna say, you know, you wouldn't put together a
package of maybe exl Cocher then maybe a couple of
picks to trade Terry McLaurin on some type of combination
of the young wide house outside of Ted McMillan to
trade Forterry Terry McLaurin.

Speaker 1 (37:36):
Wait, so I'm sending out two and only getting one back.
I want more wide receivers.

Speaker 2 (37:40):
I don't want.

Speaker 1 (37:41):
I don't want to get if you get Terry and
then yeah, yeah that's a joke. Yes, that is a
joke about my addiction. Yes, uh, I think Terry's very good.
I think would be stupid for Washington to trade him
because this is okay, you still have a young QB
that developed a rapport for Terry, poor Terry. Finally it's
a good quarterback, and now the commanders don't want to

(38:02):
pay him, Like what are y'all doing up there?

Speaker 2 (38:05):
But yeah, I let me know. I don't think.

Speaker 1 (38:08):
I didn't see many tweets from Panthers fans about going
after Terry. And I saw a lot about Tea. I
saw a lot about DK and that was before they
used a top ten pick on TMAC. But once, once
you select tedor Roha McMillan, then a lot of that
stuff goes out the window. Man, So I'm good with
just looking past the Terry McLaurin sweepstakes that are happening.

Speaker 2 (38:29):
Yeah, and that's good that you have grown, man, no
doubt about it.

Speaker 3 (38:32):
You know, he is most seasons on the lighter side
of one thousand yards, and for him to ask for
thirty plus million, I could kind of see where Washington's
coming from. But it's gonna be interesting to see how
this plays out. I think at the end of the
day he gets his money. I think he does too.

Speaker 1 (38:46):
But also again, like the close to the lighter side
of one thousand, go look at that commander's QB history.

Speaker 2 (38:52):
It is atrocious.

Speaker 1 (38:53):
Sure, it's just god awful and it changes every single year.
And of course now that he has Jane annuals, he
had what eleven hundred this year, closely to the ninety
six with thirteen to okay, so yeah, thirteen touchdowns as well.
So I think they should pay him. But I'm not
trying to go after him now, Micah Parsons, that's a
little bit more of an interesting conversation for us.

Speaker 3 (39:15):
But I was going to ask you though, really quickly
as we closed out to Terry McLaurin, with the numbers
that he's put up, if the Panthers did trade for him,
would you be comfortable paying him thirty million plus?

Speaker 2 (39:26):
I mean that's the better question.

Speaker 1 (39:28):
I if the Panthers traded for him, like if the
Panthers needed a receiver, would I go after Terry and
pay him thirty because he's twenty nine? Now? Yeah, yeah,
I guess I didn't think about it age nearly as much.
You know, No, there's nobody that is an age just
like Walker May. I think I would feel a little.
I think i'd feel like I would with DK, except

(39:50):
a little, maybe a tiny bit less where I wanted DK.
But I had a limit. I think I stopped it
at like a second round pick. I didn't want to
give up a first for DK Metcalf. I wasn't going
to do anything like that. I was okay paying him
thirty and DK's younger. If I'm not mistaken, I think
DK's like twenty seven. If I'm not mistaken, it would

(40:10):
be one of those where I probably wouldn't do it,
But I also don't think it'd be the worst move
if the Panthers pulled that off. Okay, I'm not going
to go on one side of the fence or the other.
You're right, dkse twenty seven. Yeah, there you go. So
and I think that stuff matters. But thirty million for
Terry maybe I want Washington to do it just because
he's had to catch passes from terrible qbs and now

(40:30):
they finally have a good one.

Speaker 2 (40:32):
And Terry's like, are you kidding me? Now?

Speaker 1 (40:34):
Like that, we look to be competing in the NFC,
and I've been your number one wide out forever despite
all of this terribleness, throwing me the football, now you
don't want to pay me. I just would feel bad
for him. Okay, Micah Parson, let's talk about that one.
Because Diana Rassini of The Athletic tweeted out earlier today,
breaking the Micah Parsons Cowboys relationship has deteriorated to the

(40:56):
point where the star pass rusher is considering drastic measures,
which could include a trade request or even a declaration,
a declaration that he is severing his relationship with the team.
Per multiple league sources familiar with the situation, the two
sides remain far apart heading into the second week of
training camp and are not currently negotiating. And to tweet

(41:18):
from Diana Rassinick, he's declaring possibly severing his relationship with
the Cowboys.

Speaker 2 (41:25):
What do you make of the Michael Parson situation? I
just it just blows my mind.

Speaker 3 (41:30):
How these teams do this over and over and over again,
and Dallas does this all the time, and Jerry Jones
trying to circumvent the system and not talk to his
agent and David Mugiletta, and this is just a ridiculous situation.
And then how can we forget the press conference where
he comes out and says, well, he could get hit
by a car, this could happen, that could happen. It's

(41:51):
just absurd, And this is why Dallas has been in
the position that they've been in. But then you look
around in the league and a lot of teams do this,
and you know people used to get on you know,
different gms around the league. For you know, Marty hearnings
of the world for paying guys straight up, because under
his stewardship, I don't think there were many situations where
he didn't pay guys. There wasn't a lot of waiting

(42:13):
for your money with Marty Hernie in the building.

Speaker 2 (42:16):
Yeah, man, but you know.

Speaker 3 (42:18):
I get it while they try to play hardball to
an extent, but for Dallas, we know this guy's one
of the top two three edges in the game.

Speaker 2 (42:25):
Just go ahead and give them the money. Whatever stipulations
you want to put in put in.

Speaker 3 (42:30):
But as far as if the Panthers would to make
a move for him, yes, that would be substantial. You
put him outside that three to four as an edge.
But man, you are going to have to pay big
time because if TJ. WHTT got forty one and change,
talking about Michael maybe getting forty three, forty four something
like that per year, and the guaranteed money's gonna be
out of this world. But he did say once upon

(42:51):
a time, the Panthers were his favorite team back in
the day, so maybe he could look at that. Roston
tell his agent, Hey, that's one of the places I
wouldn't mind going.

Speaker 2 (42:58):
So two parts of this conversation.

Speaker 1 (43:00):
Should the Cowboys pay Micah one hundred and ten thousand
million percent? Yes, they should. This is very easy in
my opinion. You say, who is the highest paid edge rusher? Okay,
it's TJ.

Speaker 2 (43:10):
Watt.

Speaker 1 (43:10):
Let's give Mikah Parsons a little more than that and
then let's be done with it. Oh, you want guaranteed money. Okay,
let's see how much guaranteed money TJ. Watt is getting
at twenty six years old, at one of the premium
positions in football. You said, top two to three edge rusher.
No disagreement there at all, Wes. If you were to
compile a list of the ten to fifteen most impactful

(43:32):
players period in the game, MICHAEH. Parsons would make that
list unless you just want to put all the importance
on quarterback.

Speaker 3 (43:39):
And that's fine if and it just playoff history leaves
a lot to be desired.

Speaker 1 (43:42):
Yeah, defensive end playoff stuff. Though, like I know, it
doesn't mean that you can just mail it in. But
if you're not getting sacks, we know that nobody averages
a sack a game, right, So if you play a
playoff game and you don't get one sack and then
you lose that playoff game, then you don't get a
chance to make for it like you do in the
regular season. So it's so fickle in that regard. Bottom

(44:04):
line is, if you're talking about if you want to
remove quarterbacks, fine, now we compile a list of the
top ten most impactful players in the game. Micah Parsons
is showing up on that list. From every single NFL pundon,
every single one of the mic is going to be
on it. So pay the man forty million dollars. You're
looking at me like you wouldn't put him on the list.
Why is that?

Speaker 2 (44:21):
Because he didn't show up in the playoffs like their games.

Speaker 3 (44:25):
He's been non existent, and I think that is part
of what's hurting him in this process. Do I think
he's going to get his money eventually, Yes, But I've
watched every Dallas playoff game and he's been a part
of and his name doesn't get called. And I'm not
just talking about getting sacks. I know that's you know,
kind of surface level stuff. I'm like, oh, he should
have a sack or two every playoff game, but when

(44:45):
you watch games, he's just not nearly as disruptive as
he is during regular season games. Now, I'm not saying
that can't change for him. Sure that can change, But
just to this point, I don't know that you know,
I would put him up with some of the.

Speaker 2 (45:00):
Other guys because the playoff production hasn't been there. And okay,
I would say that is a hardcore outlier take. And
you're in top tu.

Speaker 1 (45:09):
I've heard other people say it, but but top ten, Like,
if Mike is making forty million dollars outside of quarterbacks,
that's as much money as anybody's making.

Speaker 2 (45:16):
Right, Yeah, he's gonna.

Speaker 3 (45:17):
Get that, no doubt, because his statistics to this point
that he's compiled, you know, demand that. His age and
his upside demand that. I'm just saying, if you were
to put a knock on him, I don't know that
I would put him as a top twenty impact player
overall just because.

Speaker 2 (45:33):
Of the playoff history. That can change.

Speaker 1 (45:35):
Well, if I disagree, we'll see what happens with the
contract negotiation. Does that mean you're out on trading for
him if you're the Panthers.

Speaker 2 (45:44):
Because it would cost everything.

Speaker 3 (45:46):
No, I will say this for the Carolina Panthers because
I knew we would get to this.

Speaker 2 (45:50):
Yes you would.

Speaker 3 (45:51):
You would go get Michael Parsons me, he would, no
doubt about it, be your cornerstone defensive player with Derek Brown.
If you go out there with Derek Brown, Michael Park
since J C. Horn, now you are cooking with hot,
hot grease. The fish is ready to drop if you
bring a Michael Parson up because, like I said, his
playoff fortunes can change. We've seen many athletes that in
the postseason didn't necessarily get it done in certain portions

(46:14):
of their career and then they came alive. But if
you're talking about just what he would bring to this defense,
the history of the linebackers here in Carolina, if you
had a chance to get him, if you're the Carolina Panthers,
you get him and you pay him, no question about it.

Speaker 1 (46:26):
And I guess you wouldn't do that with a playoff
guy though, right or against the Panthers.

Speaker 3 (46:32):
I'm saying for the Carolina Panthers and non playoff lot
of teams, yeah, but for because Like I said, I'm
not completely closing the door on it. I'm just saying,
as far as the conversation today about most impactful players,
I think that's a knock against him, But I'm just saying,
but as far as what he does a lot of
the other times, you got to take that gamble to say, Okay,
one day the light will come on in the playoffs

(46:53):
and he'll be that player that he is most other times.

Speaker 1 (46:57):
Well, and we know this is how the Cowboys operate
to play this thing out, and eventually they're gonna have
to pay more money than they would have at the beginning.

Speaker 2 (47:04):
Because he was clad.

Speaker 1 (47:04):
They should have taken care of early, and they did.
But this is what they do. This is what they do.
They're eventually going to keep them and they're not going
to trade them anyway. To be honest with you, we
can have this conversation all day long. There's no way
that they're going to trade them, all right, We got
to get to it. Campus ConA team week Noah Fleischman
