sitting here watching football.

with Dal Loggins, I would have to imagine that it's
going to be aj Swan that's going to be starting

at QB for them. But I guess maybe in practice
you can see JJ Cole come out and win that
job all of its gamesmanship though, right like, we only
have experience from one QB that's really in contention for starting,
and so maybe Tim Albyn and Charlotte is leaning that
way in preparation. You don't want to get caught with
your pants down. I think that's a monster, of course,
key to the game when you're talking about the starting quarterback.

had to say to us yesterday, any takeaways on the
vibes of what he's feeling going into this season, the style,
stopping the run, Connor Harrell being starting QB.

What were your thoughts?

And the biggest thing I took away was the fact
that he did hint at the prospect of us seeing
all three quarterbacks during this season, and I thought for
Sean and I said, oh, brother, that's not what they
want to hear coming into the season opener. But it
seemed like he was fairly confident and Connor Harrol until
you know that was said, but other than that, it

was like a god that's very excited. We know that
he is a program builder, and so I think at
the end of the day. Regardless if you do see
all three quarterbacks or not, you have to feel confident
with the track record that he's established as the coaster
he is, and this is going to be a great
game and a great barometer to let you know kind
of where you're at right now.

Yeah, and I think too, if.

You go back and you see some of those teams
constructed the way they were at Ohio, perhaps you got
a little bit of foreshadowing on what kind of quarterback
he wants to play. Duel threat, He cares about running quarterbacks.
He likes the athleticism. We just thought Grayson Loftis was
clearing away the better thrower of the football that it
didn't matter just how much how athletic Connor Harold was.

But it seems like the leadership too. He's done the
whole I'm staying after practice thing. There's been some videos
of him doing that and really exemplifying being a leader.
And so Connor Harold is going to be the starting QB.
I hope that we don't do the three qbs thing
and we don't know who our passer is the whole season.

was not pretty. It came down to a fourth and
one stop by NC State last night and they get
the victory over ECU.

Thoughts watching all of that unfold the way that it
did with just a one score win despite a big
spread coming into US.
Speaker 2 (06:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (06:32):
I thought that in the first half, when East Carolina
was a pure abomination, I thought that NC State broke
the cardinal rule. They were supposed to put East Carolina
away in the first half, and when they didn't do that,
I knew at some point that the levee was going
to break and that East Carolina was going to start
to make plays that were going to start to get
more confident. And so if you're an NC State fan,

you're definitely worried about your pass defense right now. Three
hundred and eighty three yards you give up to East
Carolina a big play after big play.
Speaker 2 (07:01):
I hated that fourth and one play call that they made.
Speaker 4 (07:03):
I knew State was gonna find a way to pull
something out of their keyster on that fourth and one.
I just knew East Carolina was gonna blow it, and
that play call I thought was not great. I thought
maybe they should have tried to run it one more time.
I get it that they didn't get it the first time,
but I thought, maybe you try again and maybe you
break through. At the end of the day, Yes, they
did get the victory, but it was about what I
thought from NC State. I thought it was offense that

was pretty mid as the kids like to say. The
offense really started to ball down as the game went on,
and they got some big plays from their receivers. They
got some chunk plays, which is something that had been
missing from this offense last year. So I think you
can take that and be confident about that one. Wesley
Grimes had the big touchdown catch in the first half.
(07:46):
Hoffman had the big catch down the sideline when they
really needed it, but I thought man and then the
puzzling play call when they run a quarterback power on
third down. I was pretty confused as to why they
called that with the way that CJ. Bailey was throwing
the ball end of the day, this NC State team
looked about what I thought that they would. They only
surrendered thirty rushing yards to East Carolina, so there's that,

but that passing secondary they got lit up, and I
thought the offense, like I said, they really started to
bog down once East Carolina settled in.
Speaker 3 (08:16):
I think the story of this game is twofold. You
either watching it from an NC State lens. You either
look at CJ. Bailey and maybe you disagree with this,
but this was my takeaway. You either watched CJ. Bailey
and for the most part, come away with thinking, oh,
we have an awesome quarterback again, or you come away
from this game thinking, my god, we had this victory

in the bag. Then we allowed ECU to score as
much as they did with that ten point fourth It
was almost a seventeen point fourth quarter, maybe eighteen point
fourth quarter with a two point conversion that they might
have gone for. I think they probably would have had
they ended up tying it. So anyways, you could either
feel great about what CJ. Bailey showed you or you
could feel worse about what you saw as a whole

from NC State almost giving it up to the team
that beat you in a bowl game last year. This
was a game that you were supposed to have so
much pride coming into. Oh they beat us in a
bowl game. We're not gonna let that happen. We ended
up fighting them now, man, we got to put our
foot on their throats and end this thing. And they
didn't do that. In fact, they let them off the
hook in his green style. How do you feel if
you're an NC State fan watching.
Speaker 4 (09:20):
Well after they scored their second touchdown, they went empty
seven out of eight drives.
Speaker 2 (09:24):
And also too, you got to be pretty nervous about.
Speaker 4 (09:27):
That kicking game, okay, because he missed two kicks badly
and they were kicks that a power for college kickers
should make. So, like I said, there were some flaws
exposed in this game.
Speaker 2 (09:38):
CJ. Bailey had a bad.
Speaker 4 (09:39):
Interception, he almost threw one or two more, and some
other parts of this game. So again, East Carolina gave
teams a little bit of a blueprint because they really
did a good job against their run. Hollywood's Mothers had
a couple of nice games, but other than that, East
Carolina kind of dominated them up front when they tried
to run the football on them.

Speaker 4 (09:58):
Bailey had to hit some of those big chunk But again,
seven out of your eight drives were empty after you
scored a second touchdown. And again, you know the special
teams aspect that this is rough too, because you feel
like if you have an offense that kind of is
still trying to work itself into shape. It doesn't help
when you're missing kicks two back to back miss field goals.

All right, we got some people texting in some state

They were about ready to five during last night. You
could feel it, you feeling.

He did say past defense and run blocking that was
horrendous last night. I was talking about it with Flounder

You know, it's interesting. I feel last year watching that
run game be terrible against Western Carolina, I was all
sorts of concerned all across the board. I didn't think
Jordan Waters was very good last year, and I know

a lot of that was because the offensive line was
pretty terrible. I didn't think I saw a whole bunch
from Jordan Waters that made me think, Okay, he can
break a couple of tackles and make the best of this.
I like what Hollywood's Mothers actually showed me last night.
I thought he was fighting. I thought there was some
nice moves on the outside that allowed him to pick
up a couple of extra yards.

And also comparing this close victory against the team that
is beneath you, not Western beneath you, but still supposed
to be supposed to be beneath you, I feel much
better about the quarterback than I did what I saw
last year. With their transfer coming in from a call,
I think that's for me. You can get a little
closer to just brushing this off your shoulder as oh, well,

it's the opener. It's a close game every single one
of these, even good teams, we'll go through these close
victories before they really iron things out the rest of
the way. I'm not as concerned about NC State this
go around. As much as I was last year against Western.

Yeah, and that uh, I don't know, man, because I
think that when you look at him, they had the
makings of a team. I saw some State fans saying
after the game. I saw one comment in particular where
he said, six six win team incoming, just enough to keep.

And when you watch this team last night, that's kind
of the feeling that you got. Because I go off
of how do I feel, man? How do I feel
when I watch you? When I watch your offense? Do
I feel intimidated? When I watch your defense? Do I
see things that make me go oh, man? Like this
team really has got potential, even if you have some snaffoos.
And so for the NC State offense, once again, I
just felt like, Okay, this is the East Carolina defense.

Who knows how good they will be, But I don't
think that they'll be great. They're not going to be
up there as a top twenty twenty five defense.

I don't see that.

So I'm like, Okay, how does this offense project against
a better defensive unit?

I'm not sure how good they will be.

And then defensively, like I said, East Carolina's quarterback was
unconscious down to stretch of that game. I mean he
was hitting third and longs of me. I remember, I
think they got a Lakhauser. And also, to you gotta
look at the fact that, let's be honest here, you
win the game by seven, how many horrible pennes the
East Carolina half. East Carolina had turnovers, they had penalties,

they had a lot of things. That's why I said
that they should have put this game and tucked it
away in the first half.

So I think you have to be alarm by that.
Speaker 4 (13:12):
If you're an East Carolina fan, you're just like, man,
if we just could have gotten a few of those
jobs back and maybe turn the tide on some of
those stupid penalties, this could have been a much different game.
But at the end of the day, you did get
a win. A win is a win, and all you
can do now is move on and be one and
Oh and his coaches love to say go one and
O the next week.

going to be aj Swan that's going to be starting

you can see JJ Cole come out and win that
job all of its gamesmanship though, right like, we only
have experience from one QB that's really in contention for starting,
and so maybe Tim Albyn and Charlotte is leaning that
way in preparation. You don't want to get caught with
your pants down. I think that's a monster, of course,
key to the game when you're talking about the starting quarterback.

And the biggest thing I took away was the fact
that he did hint at the prospect of us seeing
all three quarterbacks during this season, and I thought for
Sean and I said, oh, brother, that's not what they
want to hear coming into the season opener. But it
seemed like he was fairly confident and Connor Harrol until
you know that was said, but other than that, it

was like a god that's very excited. We know that
he is a program builder, and so I think at
the end of the day. Regardless if you do see
all three quarterbacks or not, you have to feel confident
with the track record that he's established as the coaster
he is, and this is going to be a great
game and a great barometer to let you know kind
of where you're at right now.

Yeah, and I think too, if.

You go back and you see some of those teams
constructed the way they were at Ohio, perhaps you got
a little bit of foreshadowing on what kind of quarterback
he wants to play. Duel threat, He cares about running quarterbacks.
He likes the athleticism. We just thought Grayson Loftis was
clearing away the better thrower of the football that it
didn't matter just how much how athletic Connor Harold was.

But it seems like the leadership too. He's done the
whole I'm staying after practice thing. There's been some videos
of him doing that and really exemplifying being a leader.
And so Connor Harold is going to be the starting QB.
I hope that we don't do the three qbs thing
and we don't know who our passer is the whole season.

one stop by NC State last night and they get
the victory over ECU.

Thoughts watching all of that unfold the way that it
did with just a one score win despite a big
spread coming into US.
Speaker 2 (06:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (06:32):
I thought that in the first half, when East Carolina
was a pure abomination, I thought that NC State broke
the cardinal rule. They were supposed to put East Carolina
away in the first half, and when they didn't do that,
I knew at some point that the levee was going
to break and that East Carolina was going to start
to make plays that were going to start to get
more confident. And so if you're an NC State fan,
(06:53):
you're definitely worried about your pass defense right now. Three
hundred and eighty three yards you give up to East
Carolina a big play after big play.
Speaker 2 (07:01):
I hated that fourth and one play call that they made.
Speaker 4 (07:03):
I knew State was gonna find a way to pull
something out of their keyster on that fourth and one.
I just knew East Carolina was gonna blow it, and
that play call I thought was not great. I thought
maybe they should have tried to run it one more time.
I get it that they didn't get it the first time,
but I thought, maybe you try again and maybe you
break through. At the end of the day, Yes, they
did get the victory, but it was about what I
thought from NC State. I thought it was offense that
(07:26):
was pretty mid as the kids like to say. The
offense really started to ball down as the game went on,
and they got some big plays from their receivers. They
got some chunk plays, which is something that had been
missing from this offense last year. So I think you
can take that and be confident about that one. Wesley
Grimes had the big touchdown catch in the first half.
(07:46):
Hoffman had the big catch down the sideline when they
really needed it, but I thought man and then the
puzzling play call when they run a quarterback power on
third down. I was pretty confused as to why they
called that with the way that CJ. Bailey was throwing
the ball end of the day, this NC State team
looked about what I thought that they would. They only
surrendered thirty rushing yards to East Carolina, so there's that,
(08:08):
but that passing secondary they got lit up, and I
thought the offense, like I said, they really started to
bog down once East Carolina settled in.
Speaker 3 (08:16):
I think the story of this game is twofold. You
either watching it from an NC State lens. You either
look at CJ. Bailey and maybe you disagree with this,
but this was my takeaway. You either watched CJ. Bailey
and for the most part, come away with thinking, oh,
we have an awesome quarterback again, or you come away
from this game thinking, my god, we had this victory
(08:39):
in the bag. Then we allowed ECU to score as
much as they did with that ten point fourth It
was almost a seventeen point fourth quarter, maybe eighteen point
fourth quarter with a two point conversion that they might
have gone for. I think they probably would have had
they ended up tying it. So anyways, you could either
feel great about what CJ. Bailey showed you or you
could feel worse about what you saw as a whole
(09:00):
from NC State almost giving it up to the team
that beat you in a bowl game last year. This
was a game that you were supposed to have so
much pride coming into. Oh they beat us in a
bowl game. We're not gonna let that happen. We ended
up fighting them now, man, we got to put our
foot on their throats and end this thing. And they
didn't do that. In fact, they let them off the
hook in his green style. How do you feel if
you're an NC State fan watching.
Speaker 4 (09:20):
Well after they scored their second touchdown, they went empty
seven out of eight drives.
Speaker 2 (09:24):
And also too, you got to be pretty nervous about.
Speaker 4 (09:27):
That kicking game, okay, because he missed two kicks badly
and they were kicks that a power for college kickers
should make. So, like I said, there were some flaws
exposed in this game.
Speaker 2 (09:38):
CJ. Bailey had a bad.
Speaker 4 (09:39):
Interception, he almost threw one or two more, and some
other parts of this game. So again, East Carolina gave
teams a little bit of a blueprint because they really
did a good job against their run. Hollywood's Mothers had
a couple of nice games, but other than that, East
Carolina kind of dominated them up front when they tried
to run the football on them.

Bailey had to hit some of those big chunk But again,
seven out of your eight drives were empty after you
scored a second touchdown. And again, you know the special
teams aspect that this is rough too, because you feel
like if you have an offense that kind of is
still trying to work itself into shape. It doesn't help
when you're missing kicks two back to back miss field goals.

run game be terrible against Western Carolina, I was all
sorts of concerned all across the board. I didn't think
Jordan Waters was very good last year, and I know

a lot of that was because the offensive line was
pretty terrible. I didn't think I saw a whole bunch
from Jordan Waters that made me think, Okay, he can
break a couple of tackles and make the best of this.
I like what Hollywood's Mothers actually showed me last night.
I thought he was fighting. I thought there was some
nice moves on the outside that allowed him to pick
up a couple of extra yards.

And also comparing this close victory against the team that
is beneath you, not Western beneath you, but still supposed
to be supposed to be beneath you, I feel much
better about the quarterback than I did what I saw
last year. With their transfer coming in from a call,
I think that's for me. You can get a little
closer to just brushing this off your shoulder as oh, well,

it's the opener. It's a close game every single one
of these, even good teams, we'll go through these close
victories before they really iron things out the rest of
the way. I'm not as concerned about NC State this
go around. As much as I was last year against Western.

Yeah, and that uh, I don't know, man, because I
think that when you look at him, they had the
makings of a team. I saw some State fans saying
after the game. I saw one comment in particular where
he said, six six win team incoming, just enough to keep.

Dave Dorn's job.

And when you watch this team last night, that's kind
of the feeling that you got. Because I go off
of how do I feel, man? How do I feel
when I watch you? When I watch your offense? Do
I feel intimidated? When I watch your defense? Do I
see things that make me go oh, man? Like this
team really has got potential, even if you have some snaffoos.
And so for the NC State offense, once again, I
just felt like, Okay, this is the East Carolina defense.

Who knows how good they will be, But I don't
think that they'll be great. They're not going to be
up there as a top twenty twenty five defense.

I don't see that.
Speaker 4 (12:38):
So I'm like, Okay, how does this offense project against
a better defensive unit?
Speaker 2 (12:42):
I'm not sure how good they will be.
Speaker 4 (12:43):
And then defensively, like I said, East Carolina's quarterback was
unconscious down to stretch of that game. I mean he
was hitting third and longs of me. I remember, I
think they got a Lakhauser. And also, to you gotta
look at the fact that, let's be honest here, you
win the game by seven, how many horrible pennes the
East Carolina half. East Carolina had turnovers, they had penalties,

they had a lot of things. That's why I said
that they should have put this game and tucked it
away in the first half.

So I think you have to be alarm by that.
Speaker 4 (13:12):
If you're an East Carolina fan, you're just like, man,
if we just could have gotten a few of those
jobs back and maybe turn the tide on some of
those stupid penalties, this could have been a much different game.
But at the end of the day, you did get
a win. A win is a win, and all you
can do now is move on and be one and
Oh and his coaches love to say go one and
O the next week.
