Speaker 1 (00:08):
Only Sports Radio ninety two point seven half m become
a UFNZ.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
Fine, he's the Wesson Walker Show. Even a crowd knows
what's coming there.
Speaker 1 (00:23):
It's a war cry Wednesday, Wes and Walker Sports Radio
ninety two to seven w f NZ. I'm a little
afraid of this war cry Wednesday, I might hear the
whole city of Charlotte Vince.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
Outside.
Speaker 1 (00:36):
Looks like the building is going to be shaking with
the frustration from all the Panthers fans. I do expect
that as soon as we start to warcry. But we're
here with you every single weekday, broadcasting from the Chandler
Volta Studio. CV Injury Law dot com, cvinjurylat dot com.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
One call.
Speaker 1 (00:52):
That's all the Carolinas personal injury lawyers. Michael Chandler Joseph Volta.
Just got to meet both of them in the breakroom.
It was awesome to that break breakroom with the meeting room.
I guess it was awesome to meet them personalized lawyers too.
They want to give you a personalized touch on your case.
If you have a car accident that you feel like
you were in or that you were injured in, make
(01:12):
sure that you give Cvinjurylaw dot Com a visit and
you'll meet a couple of guys that care specifically about
your case. And we appreciate them broadcasting, not only or
them sponsoring the studio we broadcast from, but it was
awesome meeting them just a little while ago. So again
we're broadcasting live from the Chandler Bolt To studios. Make
sure you visit CV Injurylaw dot Com again. Warcry Wednesday.
(01:35):
I imagine there's going to be a lot of frustration out there.
Mac and Bone had their move on Wednesday. Feels like
people were trying to do that yesterday. Wes, Yeah, we did.
You know what I'm saying, like, Ky, this is what
we usually do. We usually have the Monday to vent
and then on the Tuesday. Really, I think people most
people are ready to look ahead. But I think by Wednesday,
(01:59):
for sure, everybody is like, all right, let's get this
thing back on track. I don't know if they're confident
in that, but it does feel like everybody is ready
to move on and at least try.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
To get back on here.
Speaker 3 (02:07):
Yeah, because you just starting to get to the point
and tomorrow the football week pretty much starts again. You've
got packas and commanders in a really good early Thursday
night NFL football game. So I think people, you know,
you start to turn the page, because the NFL itself
has turned the page to the new week. Whether or
not the problems persist or continue, or however you want
to put it, that remains to be seen, because maybe
(02:29):
it could be washed rerens repeat all over again, or
it could be a new beginning.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
All right.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
So not only is it West, not only is it Walker.
We got Shoppy in the Chandler Volta studios today, flounder
not in shoppies ready to war cry? When's the last
time you let out a yell with us on air?
With you guys, it's I can't remember. It's been a
long time. I don't know if I've ever actually done
a war cry Wednesday.
Speaker 2 (02:51):
With you guys. I think you have.
Speaker 4 (02:54):
I don't.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
I'm sure you have specifically, but I'm pretty sure you have.
Did you bring your war crish shoes today? You got
those armors? I brought everything?
Speaker 2 (03:01):
All right.
Speaker 1 (03:02):
We have some people Jack saying I'm gonna throw a
helmet like Bryce during the war cry. Brian says, what's
good on this war cry Wednesday? Salty pirate saying he's
ready to roll with it. So let's not waste any
more time. At the count of three, let's war cry,
let out all that frustration, and then let's pull up
to the scene and then let's get off the bus.
Speaker 2 (03:19):
You know the deal. One, two, three.
Speaker 3 (03:23):
Are getting it in a day with slow I got
this team ready to go.
Speaker 1 (03:30):
Wow, there's a short war cry. Okay, let's do it.
Let's get off the bus, open up the doors.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
Why'd you stop? We look good? How far you can go?
All right?
Speaker 1 (03:43):
We got some people write again about Bryce. I heard
he was the main topic of discussion a lot of
the time on Mac and Bone this morning. And I've
been thinking about what I want Bryce to reach this year?
What kind of goal, what kind of tear do I
want Bryce Young to reach? And I do get a
little scared if we get in this situation where Bryce
Young is just a middle of the road quarterback to
(04:05):
so now we just don't know what to do. That's
the FanDuel question that I want to ask. FanDuel text
line seven oh four, five seven oh ninety six to ten.
How worried are you the Panthers fan? With Bryce Young
possibly being just a middle of the road QB. Are
you cool with that? Is that what you're hoping for
at this point? Are you hoping that he's still a
top five guy? Can we get to that kind of space?
(04:28):
Can we get to top ten? These are the questions
that I have with Bryce.
Speaker 2 (04:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (04:32):
Man, you definitely putting that carrot out there, man, because
at this point, I'm super worried about how his season's
going to turn out as opposed to what I thought
it was going to begin in this thing because I'm
looking at this receiving corps and I'm starting to wonder,
how can he succeed with this quarter? He's going to
be marching out there with every week. I mean, if
he's able to turn in a top five, top ten
caliber season, then he certainly would deserve to be there
(04:55):
because he's going to have to overcome a lot of
obstacles to get there.
Speaker 1 (04:58):
And I don't even want a pigeonhole as if you're
not a top five guy, then you failed. If you're
not a top ten guy, then you've failed. I don't
want to have the conversation in that space. Where I
want to have this conversation is does he do enough
this year? That you feel good enough about this team
with him at quarterback, really competing for a postseason spot
in twenty twenty six, and not even just getting to
(05:20):
the playoffs, but making a big enough jump to where
you feel like you can make some noise. Can you
give us the classic examples for the last two years.
Can you give us a Washington Commander's type of run.
Can you give us a Houston Texans with CJ. Stroud
his rookie season type of run where they win at
least a game? Do they win a couple? Do I
say they even get to the super Bowl? Can we
(05:41):
even know? Do we allow ourselves to get there? I'm
just saying we've seen big time jumps before, but this
is what I want to see from him, him make
a big enough jump this year to where I know
that's a guy I feel real comfortable with in twenty
twenty six taking that kind of leap winning at least
one playoff.
Speaker 2 (06:00):
I guess I will ask you, how do you think
he gets itick?
Speaker 3 (06:02):
Like, how do you think this year with the supporting cast,
how would you perceive him to be able to get
to that point?
Speaker 1 (06:08):
More consistency and more games that I look at saying
they won because of what Bryce Young was able to do.
Like this is this is a wide receiving corps with
Jalen Cocher back, that I think is good enough for
us to evaluate Brunz. He's out four to six. He's
out four to six, he's on IR. He can't come
back until week five at the very minimum. So when
Jalen Cocher is back in the fold with what everybody
(06:29):
thinks about him, as long as he looks the same
way that he did prior to the quad injury. Now
you have Jalen Cocher, you have Tea Mac. There are
worse wide receiving duos out there in the NFL than
a top ten guy and somebody that really came on
strong last year.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
And so if you have JT.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
Sanders, who a lot of other people are high on,
you have a running game with one of the best
running back duos in the NFL with Cuba and Rico Daddle,
and you have a top at least top half I
think top ten offensive line, then that's good enough for
us to be able to evaluate you. If you're truly
able to lead this team to a playoff win in
twenty twenty six, like, that's enough for me to get
(07:09):
some answers on what Bryce Young is going to become.
Speaker 3 (07:11):
Yeah, I think that at this point, once Cocer returns,
and if he does return the form, then I think
you're looking at a group that has the potential that
gives you enough to say, all right, if we keep
continuing to deal with him in twenty twenty six, then
we are making progress. I think that he can make
another step towards solidifying himself as the starter. I don't
know how much further I see it going than that,
(07:33):
but just him just showing you enough to say, well,
I feel good about Bryce Young. We just need more.
That's why I think I would be once Dalen Coca
returns to this lineup.
Speaker 1 (07:42):
Let's go to the text line people are bringing in
some of those answers. WV Thunder says, any chance of
Bryce even having a middle of the road season flew
out the window when we listened to Theland's wife and
let him go.
Speaker 2 (07:54):
Yeah, I disagree with that.
Speaker 1 (07:55):
If your whole season hinged on Adam Thelen's present. Not
to say that he wasn't somewhat of an important factor,
but if you, as a quarterback, allow his absence to
completely derail your season. We said middle of the road
right here, completely derail your season from even becoming average,
then you ain't it And I don't think that's going
to happen with Bryce, just to be clear seven oh
(08:17):
four five, seven oh ninety six to ten. Take Notes
writes this in we need Bryce to keep us in
games and able to give us the occasional performance to
stand up and go win us a game. At the
end of the contest, lack of nu on Sean says,
the truth of the matter is Bryce is our weakest link.
I don't know what he does well on a consistent
basis and can't imagine his teammates are excited to play
(08:39):
with him.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
Man, he got all the way down there. Yeah, that's absurd.
Speaker 1 (08:46):
That's all the eye you got, the eye roll from
West lack of nuance Sean, this is this is what
I don't want to happen because of the one bad
game that we had at Okay, the one bad game
since he made the return to the lineup you have Dallas.
Speaker 2 (09:02):
That was bad.
Speaker 1 (09:03):
But I almost give him a tiny bit of a
pass because the protection was just hoarded in that one.
Denver wasn't amazing. But remember the interception that he had.
Not only was it not his fault, but it was
a dime that XL just couldn't haul in. And then
there were some other big time throws, the one to
Jalen Cocher on the sideline. Really all the other games
that he played, I thought he was quite good. Philadelphia
(09:25):
Kansas City are the teams against big time competition, and
then some division matchups Atlanta at the end of the season,
the celebration before Tommy Tremble actually catches the touchdown pass.
He's shown us some consistency. I do wonder if we
get to a spot where he actually is throwing for
a decent amount of yardage and just looks really good. Yeah,
for a five, six, seven week stretch and the bad
(09:49):
games are few and far between. Yeah, I mean, that
would be ideal for him to be able to do so.
And so I think that this receiver corp is going
to have to improve leaps and bounds over the next
couple of weeks for him to be able to do that.
Speaker 2 (10:01):
And it starts with Arizona.
Speaker 3 (10:03):
As we said, we talked about Will Johnson and how
he did in his first game, but we also talked
about Tetoroa, how is he going to deal with being
the number one guy, drawing the best corner, drawing the
coverage rolling his way, Because when you go to advanced metrics, folks,
the highest graded receiver he had outside of Tetoroa McMillan,
you're talking about Hunter Refro leading the crew at a
(10:23):
sixty and after that it goes down after that And
for those who know you went to school, sixty was
not cutting and you know that that was failing, and
below that was even worse than that. And so that's
the question I would beg is that what do you
guys really expect him to do with this core? And
I mean, as I said, there's only a few quarterbacks
that can do a lot with a little So I
would ask you too, outside of maybe some of the
(10:45):
biggest guns in the league, who do you really think
is going to be able to thrive with this crew?
Speaker 1 (10:49):
Well, but I will say, like that was a conversation
point with him, is that he didn't need any help
and that you didn't need to make these big moves
for wide receivers because he could just spread the ball
around and then hit the open guy. So now I
think It is true with Bryce, just as it is
with all the other quarterbacks outside of your big four.
Everybody needs help to have just a little bit of success.
(11:10):
So it's why David Tepper frustrated the hell out of
me by the initial thinking. All we need to do
is just get Bryce and he'll be a point guard
and spread the ball around. He's an accurate passer. I
think he's accurate. I think he's a great processor. I
still think that's true of him. But help him out still,
And that's why we like the wide receiver room. I
understand the circumstances that led to trading Adam Thielen. I
(11:33):
didn't love it. I thought you got one hundred cents
on the dollar. Cool, you move on. Jalen Kocher getting
hurt the day after that trade was quite terrible. And
now the deep wide receiver room means you're hinging on Temac.
And we were hopeful for Excel, but my god, he
did not answer the bell at all in week one,
so it came crashing down very very quickly. Over the
(11:54):
last couple of weeks. Let's continue to give him some help.
I will say I think he has enough to be
able to perform to a high level. And if he doesn't, well,
I'm not going to feel much more comfortable at the
end of the season if he doesn't reach at least
an average standard.
Speaker 3 (12:06):
Yeah, and I was going to say, you know, to
your point about the whole point guard thing that Temper said,
But to be able to have that type of offense
with guys that aren't necessarily high dollar guys, they have
to be able to get open on a consistent basis.
You guys, remember when the Carolina Panthers the year they
went to the Super Bowl with Cam Newton and they
lost Kelvin Benjamin. Well, he had a lot of receivers
(12:27):
that got opened, and he had a scheme that would
get them open enough, and Cam would dictate things as
well as far as the running and the running game
that they had. That would also help to be able
to scheme guys open as well. But to be able
to be a point guard that can throw the receivers
that aren't necessarily Pro Bowl caliber players, they have to
be able to get open on a regular basis. And
so that's what he's going to need from that crew
if he is going to be able to ascend to
(12:49):
that level.
Speaker 1 (12:50):
So we're going back to the Fandel text line seven
oh four five seven ninety six to ten, Lemon writes
this in Walker, I rock with you normally, thank you,
but you all, but you all have to stop acting
like the loss of thel and being impactful is an
indictment of Bryce. It's an indictment of the wide receiving corps.
This fan base is used to weak wide receiver play
(13:10):
and diluted ourselves into thinking we had obscene depth. I
don't think I ever thought we had obscene depth. I
thought it was pretty deep to the point where I
felt good about that wide receiver room, and then when
they traded out in thelen, it clearly took a hit.
So when we talk about the loss of theling being
impactful is an indictment of Bryce, like I don't. I
don't think it's an indictment of them, so to speak.
(13:33):
But if his whole season hinges on whether theland plays
or not, then that's not necessarily a quarterback that I'm
comfortable with every single season for the next five years.
I think that's fair to say, Yeah, you agree, you're
not so much.
Speaker 3 (13:46):
I think that you know, when you look at it,
worst case scenario happened to the Panthers if Cocher's planned,
and I think we have a different ballgame.
Speaker 2 (13:53):
But I do think that you had a chance. And
I'm not saying they had obscene.
Speaker 3 (13:56):
Depth, but they had a real chance to have a deep,
wide receiver room. And that's why I did not like
the trading of Adam Thieling, because then you could withstand
some injuries if those would have happened. Because we know
this is the NFL, there's a one hundred percent injury rate.
You know that guys are gonna get hurt, and so
you had a chance to march out there and maybe
have yourself.
Speaker 2 (14:15):
In a position to war.
Speaker 3 (14:16):
Think about what you could have had, and we know
we don't want to necessarily go highsight twenty twenty all
the time. But if Exavier leg Get gets demoted, you're
walking out there with Adam Thielen, Croy McMillan, and Jalen Kocher,
three guys who specialize in getting open. Now it's a
completely different ball game. Now you know they're friending things
up for JT. The running game is going to be
(14:37):
a little bit more efficient, and you have guys that
are getting open on a regular basis, so that he
can be that point guard that's going to be able
to dole out the ball to whomever gets open, because
you're gonna have plenty of guys that do that. And
so that's the thing that this Adam Feeling trade is
so glaring because you traded them away and you did
not account for injury, and I feel like you always
(14:57):
need to do that. We talked about yesterday how Brian
Burns that trade, what did that turn into, Jonathan Brooks,
Cam Jackson, and Mitchell Evans. So trading Adam Thielen for
this supposed fourth round pick that's going to be a
Hall of Famer apparently was not the smartest thing to
do because now with the way that this organization draft
in the middle of the late rounds, it's probably gonna
end up being a guy that doesn't make the team,
(15:18):
what doesn't make any impact. And so that's I think
is what the huge impact of this Adam Thlin trade was.
It was a domino effect. You got the worst case
scenario and now here we are.
Speaker 1 (15:28):
We need to make some changes possibly going towards the
future here with Carolina. So what would those changes be
if you had to make them in order the personnel decisions,
deciding who plays on game day, Gero Rivero as defensive coordinator,
Dave Canalis as play caller. We'll get to some of
the changes the Panthers could be looking at if this
team continues to move south. It's Western Walker Sports Radio
(15:50):
ninety two to seven WFNZ, WestEd Walker Back Sports Radio
ninety two to seven WFNZ. Reading a lot of texts
coming in on the FANDUL text line seven oh four
(16:13):
five seven oh ninety six'. TEN i ask a question
about the order of. Operation what should change if this
thing continues to go? South and you guys wrote About
dan needing to go according To bagel, guy, like that's
the order of operation number. ONE i think that's big
time panic. Mode If dan ends up being fired and
that happens Before Jaro rivero is relieved of his, duties
(16:36):
that happens Before Bryce young is changed at, quarterback that
happens Before Lethan ransom. STARTS i, nope we're not even
giving that guy an. Opportunity we're just going to go
ahead and fire THE gm that put it all. TOGETHER
i think that's probably closer to the bottom of the
list than it is the. Top salty pirate SAYS qb
should be the number one. Change quit forcing a circle
into a square. Hole so those are some of the
(16:58):
thoughts coming. In here's HOW i. Order you have the
list in front of, you let me know if you
would change the order of the.
Speaker 2 (17:04):
Totem pol.
Speaker 1 (17:04):
OKAY i think the first thing you do if this
thing continues to go south is make some changes on
who plays on game. Day seems like the talking about end. Season,
yeah it just seems like the logical next. Step for,
instance they just released a depth. Chart people weren't happy
because it's the same depth chart as they released right
before the. Season people wanted to See Nick scott on the.
(17:27):
Sideline they wanted to See Lathan ransom, play, which to be,
Fair Dave canalys might want to See Leathan ransom play
as well when he says he's pushing A Jero averro
to play some of the younger. Guys So Nick, scott
he's still. STARTING i, mean it's not like you Wanted
Trevin wallace to be on the sideline because who else
can you? Play maybe you, do and you just are
saying give anybody else a. Shot But Claude cherillis And
(17:49):
Baam Martin scott are still your second string. Linebackers It's Trevin,
Wallace christian Rose boom, Starting it's still Dj wanham starting at. Edge,
Yep Patrick jones still starting at. Edge so it's still
largely the. Same if you wanted to make some personnel,
CHANGES i think what would be the right call would
Be Cad may's at. CENTER i know you're not a
big fan of. Kid austin can't play like, that So
(18:12):
cad would be the next choice. Offensively, defensively you might
give your younger guys more, snaps as we've talked about
the last couple of, days AND i Think leith And
ransom just straight up starting and getting a lot more
of the snaps Over Nick scott would be something else
THAT i point.
Speaker 4 (18:28):
To.
Speaker 1 (18:28):
NOW i know The Pro Football focus grade didn't look
all that terrible for A nixt, guy But Leathan ransom
just continues to put out good, tape whether it's, preseason
whether we're hearing about him at training, camp whether you
see him for the very very limited sample size of
snaps that he played in this one looked. Decent i'm
ready For Leathan ransom time here In.
Speaker 3 (18:47):
Carolina, YEAH i mean it's tough for, me Because i'm
always up the thought, of all, right if he can't
beat out the guy in front of him to be
able to take the, job then how good could he necessarily?
Be AND i think fans like change for the sake of,
change and sometimes it can. Help sometimes maybe putting them
in a fire could bring something out of them that
maybe they haven't tapped into. Yet BUT i just wonder,
(19:08):
too you, know what will fans say If Lathan ransom
gets beating coverage and if he misses a couple of,
tackles then will they be, like you, know we still
want them out? There Like that's the interesting part about
that IS i always feel, like all, right, well if
the guy's not, starting clearly he hasn't done enough yet
to earn that. Role and so that's the only part
THAT i wrestle. With when you're, like you, KNOW i
(19:29):
want to make.
Speaker 1 (19:29):
Change doesn't it just go To i'd rather be young
and suck and then be old and.
Speaker 3 (19:33):
Suck it, could but then it could be WHERE i
could just suck, real real bad because The ricky has
no clue what to do once he gets out.
Speaker 1 (19:40):
There and so maybe you're. Right maybe If vero feels that,
way then he's not going to.
Speaker 3 (19:46):
Play if it's like fundamental, stuff like if it's something
that you feel like it is one on one fool
proof type of, deal or something that you explicitly tell
them before they go out there on a, series and
maybe they trip up on it once they go out
there in the clubs THAT i, SEE i told, You,
Look i'll say.
Speaker 1 (20:02):
THIS i can understand your, points specifically To Leathan ransom
And Nick. Scott If Austin corbett plays like that, again
Then i'm not hearing.
Speaker 2 (20:09):
IT i just.
Speaker 1 (20:10):
Can't What Kate mays can do is he can go
out there and give you a twenty seven pass block and.
Speaker 2 (20:15):
Grade he can do.
Speaker 1 (20:16):
That so if he does, that then he won't be
any worse than What Austin korbet gave. You if he
has only two high snaps To Bryce young all game,
long that's, bad and that will still be better than
What Austin korbet gave. You So Kate mays is the
number one change That i'm. Making If Bryce young still
sees interior pressure all day long and the guards are
actually pass blocking somewhat, decently so that's the main CHANGE
(20:39):
i would. MAKE i still look to go younger, defensively and,
again If Dave canalis wants you to do, it, yeah
he knows. Football he's in charge of this entire. Operation
so it just depends on if he's going to force
his hand with A varo or. Not and if he,
DOES i think you'll probably See Leathan ransom out. THERE
i do think that's. Changed number, One, okay it's not.
Working we make a change who's playing On. Sunday that
(21:02):
fair number one change you make, this. Okay number two
is when we start to make some big. Changes A
Jaro avero probably gone as defensive. Coordinator if the defense
continues to allow two hundred yard rushing, games then that's the.
POINT i think you make the change AT, dc AND
i don't know who would step in at that. POINT
i don't even know if A vera would fight you on. It,
(21:24):
Finally i'm out Of carolina AND i feel great about.
It but when you Have dave Canal is changing play calling,
Duties Bryce young changing at, Quarterback Dan morgan changing at general,
manager those are the other OPTIONS i have on the.
LIST i think what's next after changing who suits up
On sunday is changing the defensive.
Speaker 2 (21:44):
Coordinator AND i think at this.
Speaker 3 (21:45):
Point we'll get into it again a little bit later,
on BUT i think ever, coaching you, know it's coaching
by the week at this, point BECAUSE i feel like
that any, week any really bad defensive, performance we could
see a change being made. Here and we know that
for coordinators that is way more likely to happen than
a head coaching, Change and SO i think Forever o
Man LIKE i, Said, yeah it's one thing that We've
(22:06):
we felt like that he was coaching for his job
at the beginning of the, season but now it feels
like that he's coaching for his job by the. Week,
yeah it's all about exercising the options you have before
the worst thing. Happens and the worst thing happening is
Not Nick scott being benched Or Austin. Corbett For Dave canalis's,
Sake this at The austin corpor thing has nothing to
do with A vero and MAKING i don't, know wide receiver.
(22:31):
CHANGES i, mean IF xl continues to look the way
that he, does are we just going to throw Out
bryce And? Tremaine that would be a crazy, change considering
he was a first round pick you traded up. For
but it's not so crazy with the way THAT xl
looks right. Now so that's a desperation personnel, move but
then it's leading to somebody losing their. Job that's WHY
i have it next on the. List and you're, right
(22:52):
he was coming in coaching for his. Job we all
understood that coming into this. Season and the first game
looks terrible doesn't mean That i'm ready to fire him.
Now i'd like to give him a month before he
loses his, job but if it looks terrible, again those
demands are going to be right there on that text
line That i'm looking at next, ONE i find one
of the more interesting topics to. Discuss If evera was,
(23:15):
out you've already made that, change but you look to,
offense and the offense just isn't clicking as much as
you would. Like Jalen coker actually has come, back and
T mac is still looking. Good Jalen cocher picked up
where he left off last. Year the offensive line give
me a carbon copy offensive line play last. Year good
in past, protection good at run, blocking not, elite but.
Good Dave canal is changing play calling, duties handing that
(23:39):
responsibility over To Brad. Idzach that's a move that you
see a lot in THE. Nfl i'll tell you, THIS
i would hate to see. THAT i would want to
exhaust every other opportunity before that was the decision they would.
Make the REASON i say THAT i Heard Adam gould
talk about it in an interview With mac And, boone
and it's WHY i have this on the. LIST i
(24:00):
don't Want Dave canalis handing over play calling duties if
that's the very thing that got him promoted to head
coach in the first.
Speaker 1 (24:08):
Place you know how he got this. Job it's because
of the job that he did With tampa in just one,
season Turning Baker mayfield. Around what he did last year
when we Saw bryce's, resurrection returning to the starting, lineup
he tailored the offense to What Bryce young was doing
well in. College changed it from going under center all
(24:29):
the time in the first couple of starts where he
just looked. Terribly he changed the offense so he had the,
adjustments he had the, answers and the offense looked a lot.
Better bryce saved his damn job because of the way
that offense. LOOKED i don't Want Dave canalis we're leaving
play calling DUTIES i can understand what everybody's going to be. Saying,
oh it's really. Hard it's overwhelming for one person to
be in charge of head coaching responsibilities and being the
(24:52):
one to come to.
Speaker 3 (24:52):
RATE i always like to say picking the color data,
ready guess, what that's, Right but guess.
Speaker 1 (24:57):
WHAT i just think that's the first sign to inevitable.
Firing if he hands over play calling, duties he ain't
last And WEST i don't believe. It, YEAH i think
then you lose the advantage of having the, bright young offensive.
Mind now you give it over To Brad. IGICK i
kind of lost a lot of the value That Dave
canallis brings me as being head.
Speaker 3 (25:18):
Coach, yeah And i'm with you there because the thing
is a lot of the coaches that are regarded as,
gurus that are head, coaches they do not surrender those,
duties you know What i'm, saying a lot of those
guys they collaborate with the guys who have the term offensive,
coordinator but they're not.
Speaker 2 (25:32):
Really It's Dave canalis's. Offense we know.
Speaker 3 (25:34):
That and so you feel like that With canalis having enough,
expertise it's kind of like a credibility. Thing if he
has enough expertise to be the head coach and that's
what got him the. Job then you would feel like
That isaac is a step, down which is a fair
way to look at, it because you're, Like, okay how
can you be better than the man that's in the
headchair that got there by calling? Plays and so, yeah
(25:55):
it would not be a great sign For canalis to
be able to do, that AND i did not think
that he should at this.
Speaker 1 (26:00):
Point Yeah kawhi. Laugh, ACTUALLY i think just beat his
own argument that he tried to. Present and did you
try to try that? AGAIN i e that's a Terrible
kawhi laugh. Shopping it's more, like ha, ha we'll play
it and see who does a Better kawhi laugh. Impression
kawhi laugh on the text line, says what do you
mean Turning baker? Around baker was fine and should have
(26:22):
been kept, here but they wanted to pick A. Qb, look,
man all the credit in the world To Baker, Mayfield,
wes you AND i were here when he was playing.
Speaker 2 (26:29):
Football he looked. Terrible i'm sorry he.
Speaker 1 (26:32):
Did he wasn't hitting guys right in front of his
face five yards past the line of. SCRIMMAGE i thought
he was absolutely, atrocious and that's why he had bounced
around to a couple of different teams Before tampa needed
A qb pretty. Desperately and guess. What all the credit
in the world to What baker was able to do In.
Tampa but it was not very, pretty or it wasn't
very consistent for a while until he started playing with The.
(26:54):
Buccaneers and same thing With. Gino Throw baker out of.
IT i Think gino started to figure some things out In,
seattle And Dave canalys gets a lot of credit for.
That listen To, gino who was a huge advocate of
What Dave canalis. Does after that, text he, Says Joe
brady still looks, good but we let him. Go, also
SEE i love that. Point it's always a play. Caller
it's always the, issue, Right it's never anything around. Him
(27:15):
was his quarterback, again that's, Right Teddy bridgewater was the
best one he.
Speaker 2 (27:18):
Had and that's.
Speaker 3 (27:19):
True Teddy bridgwater was the best he, got arguably the
best quarterback in THE. Nfl, right it's always the offensive.
Coordinator never mind That Joe brady was sensational AT, lsu
but he was. Young he was even calling plays which
Isn't it's, true but only to a certain. Extent he
was in charge of third down play calling, duties which
is a big. Deal but, okay, fine he had all
the talent in the.
Speaker 2 (27:38):
World.
Speaker 1 (27:39):
Cool, Yes now what he's doing At buffalo is also
impressive with Helping Josh, allen and that offense looks a
lot different than what it did Under Ken. Dorsey like,
Say Josh allen is. Special he was special With Ken,
dorsey and that offense needed a. Change but it's. Now
it Was Joe brady. Here Joe brady's, fault Which Matt
rule is the one that threw him under the bus.
THERE i just every year the offensive coordinator gets blamed
(28:01):
for all the issues that we. Have we didn't even
Like Mike, shula which you, Know i'm kind of with
you there to a certain, Degree but we didn't Like
Mike shula when they were winning The Super bowl and
had or going to The Super bowl and had the
number one offense in the. LEAGUE i think a lot
of that is happening here With.
Speaker 2 (28:14):
Dave.
Speaker 3 (28:14):
YEAH i think so, too because you come out there
and people are looking for something to. Blame they have
to figure out, something and SO i mean you, know
it's not the, personnel it's not different things that you
can look. AT i don't know if they feel like
that there's a magic elixa that somebody else will come
in and call plays and all of a sudden things
are going to.
Speaker 2 (28:32):
WORK i.
Speaker 3 (28:32):
Mean and also football is very. Situational so that's one
THING i think sometimes that fans have to realize as
well as just how situational things. Are and it's, like you,
know first, down if you get a loss or a short,
game how much that changes the dynamics of how you're
gonna call it and how much it changes how the
defense defends. You and so sometimes when you get out
of rhythm like they Were, sunday it's gonna look really.
Speaker 1 (28:55):
BAD i THINK i might have misplaced the third and fourth.
OPTIONS i THINK i did looking at it, Now but
tell me IF i got this. Wrong SO i Have
Dave canalis changing play calling duties right behind To Jero
avero being relieved as defensive. Coordinator BUT i Have Bryce
young being changed at quarterback right Behind Dave. CANALIS i
might switch that IF i, Thought, okay here are all
(29:16):
the changes that are going to be coming as long
as this thing goes terrible the rest of the. Way personal,
DECISIONS i feel good about. It One aavero being, FIRED
i feel good about.
Speaker 4 (29:25):
It.
Speaker 1 (29:25):
TWO i Think Bryce young being benched is probably there
at number.
Speaker 3 (29:30):
Three how would you? WORRY i would agree with. You,
okay that's WHAT i would. Say would probably be another
domino to. Fall and if that, happens then it's play calling. Duties, yes,
yeah that one's. Tough, Yeah AND i hate both, options
mean because if you get to those, options those are. Doomsday,
oppositely they're like you to know that If Bryce young is,
benched that is absolutely the worst case scenario that we
(29:52):
thought of coming into this.
Speaker 2 (29:54):
Season, yeah it's one hundred.
Speaker 1 (29:55):
PERCENT i would hate to see both of them BECAUSE
i think now, Now, yeah that one's tough because, one
you have to go To Andy. Dalton Andy dalton might
give you two great games and look, incredible and then
it's then it's going to look bad if it's if
it looks anything like it did last, year and and
it also means you're out On bryce. Now, yeah it
can't come back my, Matches, yeah, no you can't do.
(30:18):
That last one on the list Is Dan morgan fired
as general.
Speaker 3 (30:22):
Manager, YEAH i don't think that would happen in season
after just two drafts and two free agent.
Speaker 2 (30:27):
Classes BUT i do Think Dan morgan made a lot of.
Speaker 3 (30:32):
Changes and if you continue to give up two hundred
rushing yards a, game and that means nothing, changed but
the personnel, changed all of it, did but nothing else. Did,
yeah because you start to it's an indictment on your.
Speaker 1 (30:46):
Evaluation, yeah and the twenty twenty four draft class does
not look. Good, no not right, now twenty twenty five draft.
Class maybe we've got one. Game who knows, There that's
HOW i would build the totem. Pole, Yeah, NO i
like the totem pole that you build. There it all
makes sense to.
Speaker 3 (31:01):
Me and that would just, be AS i, said just
a doomsday type of season for The. Panthers and you're
talking about in your scenario if all of these things.
Happen oh, yeah you're talking two to four wins, here.
Buddy oh, yeah. Rugged well, no let's let's suss that
out a little. Bit so what does this season look? Like,
Like let's go to each checkpoint and discuss like, wins
(31:21):
loss record and how the product.
Speaker 2 (31:24):
Looks, yea.
Speaker 1 (31:24):
Yeah If avaro is fired as defensive, COORDINATOR i actually
don't think that's.
Speaker 2 (31:28):
Doomsday, okay it might be helpful.
Speaker 1 (31:32):
This this team might just be better in a different,
scheme different. Philosophy it's hopeful, thinking but it might just be.
Better we talked about the personnel changing putting that much
more pressure on A. VARO i don't think that's. DOOMSDAY
i think doomsday scenario is when you start to get
to play calling changing and quarterback.
Speaker 3 (31:53):
Change, YEAH i think that essentially you can break it
down like quarters in the. SEASON i think personnel changes
could come within the three to four. Games if things
continue to go, awry THEN i think that ever roll
out as a defensive, coordinator you could be looking at
that by mid. Season THEN i think that you, Know
Bryce young being, BENCHED i think could be in that same.
Speaker 2 (32:13):
Timeline you could.
Speaker 3 (32:14):
Be talking about him being benched by mid season, perhaps
and THEN i think the play calling duties would probably
come after a backup is put in and then the
offense is still kind of. Struggling, then like you, said
then we're really headed down a bad path that that,
happens because according to, you you feel like That canalys
is probably getting fired if you give us, up and
(32:37):
so Then Dan morgan IS gm to, me that would
be an end of the season deal to where it
just was completely.
Speaker 1 (32:45):
Disastrous, NO i stand Ten too's down on The Dave.
Canalos i'm with you if he changes play calling duties by.
Speaker 3 (32:50):
Because then it becomes like what are you doing because
you don't look at him as A ceo. Type you
have some coaches that come in THEIR ceo, types and
really in THE, NFL i don't really know much that
that exists anymore because the head coaching position has gotten
so much, younger unless you're a legend Like Andy reid
or somebody like. That but for the most, part these
new head, coaches they're, young they specialize in, something so
(33:12):
you don't really get THE ceo type. Anymore it's such
a cheat code to get Your, shanahan to get your,
McVeigh to get your, read to get Your Ben. Johnson
if it works out For, chicago it's such an. Advantage
NOW i do have to ask this, question AND i
used to do it all the, time BUT i don't
do it as. Much BUT i got to ask you this.
Time you've been smiling and laughing the whole. Segment, yeah
(33:34):
why is? THAT i, mean you can't EVEN i mean
and you, guys you can't say, like oh you hate
and or this, that and THIRD i picked you guys
went eight. GAMES i recalibrated before the. SEASON i went to. Seven,
okay oh you want to go? Down so, Yeah i'm
recalibrated right. BEFORE i REMEMBER i said. SEVEN i, SAID
i went from eight to, seven AND i came down
(33:55):
and with the asking do you want to go down
a floor?
Speaker 2 (33:57):
Again? Okay.
Speaker 3 (33:57):
Yeah but the thing, is you, know you hate the,
laugh but you're, like, goodness, gracious what is it gonna
take to be able to get this franchise on.
Speaker 2 (34:06):
Track that's the. Thing you're laughing almost as a.
Speaker 3 (34:09):
Defense mechanism because you're, like how much worse can you.
Get i'm sitting in that picture of myself eating my
breakfast in the morning BEFORE i start to get ready
for the, day and you're watching THE nfl network Or Sports,
center and you get that flash across the, screen And
i'm just picturing each of these coming across as. Headlines they're, like,
oh The panthers making more changes, Today Dave canals will
(34:30):
surrender play calling, duties and you're just, like good, lord
and you think about what your day's going to be
like coming in here talking to the.
Speaker 2 (34:35):
People so that's the.
Speaker 4 (34:36):
Thing.
Speaker 3 (34:37):
Man it just is funny to me Because i'm, like, goodness, gracious,
man just when you thought you could have some, optimism
it starts to go.
Speaker 1 (34:44):
There, Okay so last thing before we move. On we've
talked about laughing with. Y'all what the headlines would mean
is what we just had that entire segment about the
THINGS i think will. Happen personnel decisions are gonna change
it every, Team every team changes, starters add. Something so
that's going to. Happen it's just a matter of.
Speaker 2 (35:02):
Win.
Speaker 3 (35:03):
AVERO i DON'T i like the guy this time is
coming TO i think it's talking around the. Building, okay
if it, continues, man like you don't have much time a.
Arrow the rape is hanging out in the. Office he
just got him something to drink out of the little mini.
Fridge i'm sure he's got in there and all. THAT
i respect. HIM i do like we've seen good. Defenses
(35:25):
we saw one here in yardage ranked top ten and
at least amount of yards.
Speaker 1 (35:29):
ALLOWED i just can't be two years in a. Row
man can't do that. Again all, right let's look at
every OTHER Nfc south team. Situation have you changed your
expectations on the division as a? Whole wes is going
down the elevator with the win loss record of The panther.
Speaker 2 (35:45):
Mascot i'm not getting on with.
Speaker 1 (35:46):
You i'm shaking my, head just like whoever it was Dou,
scott whoever it was that did NOT i think it
Was John.
Speaker 2 (35:51):
Anderson but, Anyways John, anderson that's.
Speaker 1 (35:54):
ME i do not want to get on the elevator With,
wes even THOUGH i probably. Should are we getting on
that elevator for some of the other teams in the.
Division we'll talk about it coming up. Next Sports radio
ninety two to SEVEN. Wfz yourself and what would you
like people to know about.
Speaker 4 (36:11):
You i'm a fun, guy, OBVIOUSLY i love the game of.
BASKETBALL i, mean it's just more question you have to
ask me in order for me to tell you about.
MYSELF i just can't give you a whole. SPILL i
(36:32):
don't even know where he's, Sitting.
Speaker 3 (36:33):
Natalie it never gets.
Speaker 1 (36:38):
Old we brought That Kawhi leonard laugh up because we
have somebody on The FanDuel text line Named kawhi LAUGH
shrapi tried to imitate. IT i thought it was. TERRIBLE
i tried. It it probably wasn't much. BETTER i would
argue that it was, better but there's nobody that can match.
Speaker 3 (36:54):
That that one is so. Tough do you want to
give it a? Try, Wes, NO i can't get the kawhi.
LAUGH i like to mock a lot of different.
Speaker 2 (37:00):
Things but that pretty, good, dude you. Win that was pretty.
Speaker 5 (37:06):
Good you.
Speaker 1 (37:06):
Win, HONESTLY i don't know why you didn't want. To
that was leaky confidence coming into. It BUT i did like.
It you did win the kawhi lab, okay you do?
Know and that and that was that was very. Good
it's amazing that that happened in twenty. Nineteen, yeah, YEAH
i thought it happened last.
Speaker 3 (37:22):
Year and then immediately you just automatically go to everything
that was preceding, that because WHEN i think, about we
referenced something FROM i think twenty, eighteen twenty, nineteen and
then ALL i think about is twenty twenty.
Speaker 1 (37:32):
And that had eleven million, views, shoppy eleven million views on. YouTube,
YEAH i GUESS i thought it would have had, more
to be, honest but eleven million views for.
Speaker 3 (37:40):
Especially by, now you would have think it crossed into
the maybe nine.
Speaker 1 (37:44):
Figures, yeah maybe Just. Twitter everybody goes To twitter to
go watch. It but and, whatever however long that clip,
is for it to have eleven million views for thirty
six seconds is just. Amazing, kawhi do you think's he's
probably he probably is laughing himself all the way to
the bank with all of this turl surrounding the clippers
he asked.
Speaker 2 (38:03):
FOR i.
Speaker 1 (38:04):
DIDN'T i never made this, connection by the, way but
When Kawhi leonard was, talking he sounds a lot like Bra.
Man the first part of that can you do you
still have it?
Speaker 2 (38:14):
Up you mean one? Second all?
Speaker 1 (38:16):
Right so if you pull that up in just a
moment for That we just talked about Bra man two weeks.
Ago for some, reason the first part of that, clip
he sounds like he's talking To Martin lawrence eating his
sandwiches in his own. Crib you got to pull it, Up, Okay,
sorry give me the thumbs up when you have. It
but he sounded and that's just something you're gonna have
to ask.
Speaker 2 (38:38):
You do. It but speaking of, impressions you doing pretty,
good Bro. Man Bro, man what are you? Doing, yeah
just watching some of my. Stories walk a team about
to drop that.
Speaker 1 (38:48):
Baby let's Hear Kawhi leonard sounds like Brah man.
Speaker 2 (38:53):
Yourself and what would you like people to know about?
Speaker 4 (38:56):
You i'm a fun guys like OBVIOUSLY i love the
game of. BASKETBALL i GOT i, mean it's just more
question you have to ask me in order for me
to tell you about. MYSELF i just can't give you
a whole. SPILL i don't even know where you're sitting in.
Speaker 3 (39:18):
That it definitely got the cadence for. Sure just something
you're gonna have to ask. ME i want to Watched martin, now,
man that's WHAT i want to.
Speaker 1 (39:30):
Do IT'S Wesn walker playing clips from twenty. Nineteen that's
what we've resulted. To sports rated ninety two to SEVEN.
Wfnz people are texting it on The fandal text line
doing it and people like the LAST.
Speaker 2 (39:41):
I appreciate, that, GUYS i appreciate. Them you need more
confidence with.
Speaker 5 (39:45):
That.
Speaker 3 (39:45):
Man you came in not wanting to do. THAT i
had to think about. It it was going through my. HEAD
i was, like CAN i do? It CAN i do?
It and THEN i just cycled how it sounded in
my head and tried to do it as BEST i.
Speaker 1 (39:54):
Could james from seven oh four he's given me some. Compliments,
yeah is. Dope all, Right let's get to some of
THE Nfc south, teams and this is THE Nfc south
bro that they're. In, okay let's start With Tampa. BAY
i think we start with them because they're probably the least,
interesting at least in terms of changing. EXPECTATIONS i think
they're gonna be. GOOD i think we saw In week
(40:14):
one it probably wasn't a well oiled, machine but A
Mecca abuka bails them. Out If Mike evans has, Heard
Chris godwin is hurt And Ameca abuka is just another
crazy weapon that you have down. There the offensive line is,
good even if they're dealing with some. INJURIES i didn't
actually wanted to talk to you about this as.
Speaker 4 (40:33):
Well.
Speaker 1 (40:33):
OKAY i Think Graham barton kicked out to left tackle
from center this week Because Tristan wurfs was, out and
that is rare as.
Speaker 3 (40:41):
Hell, yeah he's capable of because that's what you played At.
Duke can you play both those positions that?
Speaker 4 (40:45):
Do?
Speaker 2 (40:45):
No he.
Speaker 1 (40:45):
Is he was one of my favorite players in the
draft because of that. Versatility BUT i would love to
know how many sinners get kicked out to left tackle
because there's such a dire need out, there and the
only reason he might not play left tackle in the
league now is because you Have Tristan Worf's nobody takes a.
Speaker 2 (40:59):
SHOUT i got right, Here, Lady.
Speaker 3 (41:00):
Christensen he does both because he's listed as a center
as well and a left. TACKLE i guess that's. Fair,
yeah so he does a little. BOTH i guess that's. Fair,
yeah he does.
Speaker 2 (41:08):
Everything.
Speaker 3 (41:08):
YEAH i Value Christian he's not the most valuable lineman
man when they can play multiple. POSITIONS i, Apologize Brady.
CHRISTENSEN i was about to give graand bart and all this.
STUFF i don't change expectations For tampa at all based
off Of week. ONE i know it's hard to do that,
Anyway but WHAT i saw was the defense actually did
a pretty decent job With. Atlanta they did benefit from
(41:29):
a missed field goal By atlanta at the very end
of this. One but did you see anything different that
you were surprised to? Have AND i, mean when you
look at their depth, chart they're mostly. Names i'm not
SAYING i know every single name on, it but they're
names that you feel confident with in their names that ring,
bells like when people were talking about players that were
going to contribute to this team this. Year it's, like
you know who is going to sit or who's going
(41:49):
to get. Replaced, now maybe there might be some guys
and obviously injury is going to change a little bit
of that, Depth, Chot but, No Tampa, bay you feel
pretty solid about what you've got.
Speaker 2 (41:58):
THERE i Think atlanta might.
Speaker 1 (41:59):
Be the team that has my attention the, most just
because defensively they got some pressure With James pearce a little.
Speaker 2 (42:07):
Bit my young BULLS i did getting. It he.
Speaker 1 (42:09):
Was, yeah you looked at some of the pass rush
win rate from, him he Was he didn't get, home
but he provided some pass, rush WHICH i, god you
start phrase on hail well start from ground zero For.
Atlanta just got zero pass rush and very similar to
what we did here In. Carolina Jalen walker not a
lot from. HIM i will, say what's gonna Help atlanta a?
(42:30):
Lot If Xavier watts who balled. OUT i know you
were a big fan of. Him he was like a
Draft twitter, darling why isn't he getting drafted? Higher atlanta
sees the opportunity to get. Him but he had a good.
Game in fact that a Mecho book a touchdown the
first one inches centimeters maybe away from that being A
Xavier watts. Interception Jesse bates And watts in the backfield
(42:52):
or in the defensive, backfield that's a really tough.
Speaker 4 (42:54):
Duay you.
Speaker 3 (42:55):
Know he reminds me Of Jesse bates in that same,
respect because there's something athletically that kept the scouts from
taking him in the first. Round Jesse bates was the
same Way Jesse bates when he was At Wake.
Speaker 2 (43:05):
Force he was a no doubter for. ME i knew
now THAT i see All pro.
Speaker 3 (43:08):
Coming maybe, not but he was a no, doubter, Starter
Pro bowl caliber guy for me WHEN i saw him
At wake all of those. Years AND i feel the
same way About Xavier. Watch, Also Billy bowman got credit
for the way that he came out and. Play So
atlanta looks like that they have hit on a few
of these draft. Picks and so when you do look
at some of the young, guys like A James, pearce
(43:28):
he's sitting behind The Leonard, floyd who's a vet that
seems like he's been playing, forever so it's going to
be hard to get in front of. Him and Obviously
piers has things that he has to. Learn but as
far as the role they wanted him to play in week,
one coming in there just being a hell. Raiser he
did do. That now we'll see if he's able to
capitalize on. That But atlanta looks like right now they
have drafted some good young defensive players to go along
(43:51):
with all of the. SKILL i, mean just look at
what they did On. Sunday they weren't able to run
the ball, well which is one of the reasons WHY
i liked the. Team they weren't able to run the ball.
Well but what did they do with But John robinson
he just almost had one hundred yards, receiving so you Did,
yeah SO i think had, ninety but will double check
ninety has some. Change but still you take away a
strength from them and they go to something else and
(44:12):
they're able to win.
Speaker 2 (44:13):
The YET i almost win the.
Speaker 1 (44:15):
GAME i didn't Watch Michael pennock's, film but listening to
Some NATIONAL nfl, podcasts it felt like they largely liked
what he. Did they felt like he had some issues
in certain, areas but for the most, part he was.
Fine that's A Todd bowles, defense AND i maybe don't
Love Todd bowles as my head coach all the time
when it comes to game manage it game management, specifically
(44:36):
but all the respect in the world as a defensive.
Mastermind and then The, Saints i'm JUST i think there's
