Speaker 2 (01:55):
Dal Loggins in his first season as Appalachian State head
coach coach.

Speaker 1 (02:00):
What will he do?

Speaker 2 (02:01):
According to the West and Walkers Show, Let's get into it.

Speaker 1 (02:04):
They start things off as we talked about.

Speaker 2 (02:06):
Saturday neutral site, Bank of America Stadium, to be exact,
versus the Charlotte forty nine ers. You know, Charlotte placing
a lot of guys. Connor Harrow will start at quarterback.
You heard coach Albin talking about his team.

Speaker 6 (02:19):
Which the only thing I want to the only reason
I want to cut you off just for a second,
is presenting this opportunity. All right, do we not pick
this game yet and save it for tomorrow?

Speaker 1 (02:30):
That's how we ball that.

Speaker 6 (02:31):
But I just I'm just asking if you want to
say no, I'd like to get this out of the way.

Speaker 1 (02:34):
That's fine, But we can do it.

Speaker 6 (02:36):
Do we save it for the grand gesture live at
the doghouse. People are going to be around us. It's
a little bit game with that, the ceremony I'm here for.
If you're here for, we admit it. Yeah, and then Flounder,
you're running the show from back here, right, You're not
gonna be go out there. I don't know. I'm gonna
be custration somewhere. I know that wherever he is, he

(02:57):
can be safe. But we can either be applot embraced
by the fans that are around us, or we can
be ridiculed and criticized by the pick. But I just
thought maybe the grand gesture of picking that game just
hit me in really all right?

Speaker 1 (03:08):
Cool?

Speaker 2 (03:09):
So we will go to September side six now versus
Lyndon Wood. So then we'll start off with an easy,
peasy Okay, Lyndon Wood was five and seven last year.

Speaker 1 (03:18):
I can't even refront. I had never even heard of
Lynden Wood.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
Okay, but they lost last year forty eight to three
to Kansas, And I think this will be more of
the same. App State gets in ease does.

Speaker 6 (03:31):
Yeah, I'm not going to provide a whole lot more
analysis here. App State gets the win against Lynden Wood,
a school that you said you'd never heard of.

Speaker 1 (03:37):
Before, London Wood.

Speaker 5 (03:40):
The fact that they actually, you know, only got beat
by forty five by Kansas makes me wonder if this
game will be a little bit closer.

Speaker 1 (03:47):
But yeah, app State, you know how that happens. Flounder
forty eight to three.

Speaker 2 (03:52):
That means you jump way out on them early, and
coach calls off the dogs and say we're gonna run
the ball the rest of the game. Now you get
forty If that's the case, that's how you get forty
eight to three. And I know that because the Miami
Hurricanes did it to us when we came down to
corl Gables.

Speaker 1 (04:06):
They jumped on us.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
Real good at the beginning and ran the ball the
rest of the game to keep the score respectable. And
I guess they wanted to be respectful in their own
right all right. September thirteenth at Southern Miss, former Marshall
head coach Charles Hoff is now the head coach of
Southern Miss. Why is this important because he pretty much

(04:27):
bought the whole damn program with him. Okay, they have
transfers all over this roster from Marshall. App has lost
two of three to Southern Miss in their last three contests.
Southern Miss was one and eleven last year, but they
returned eleven starters. They only scored fifteen points a game
last year and gave up thirty eight. But they're one

(04:47):
of two teams since twenty nineteen with ten more interceptions
than touchdowns last season when you're talking the passing game.
But as I said, coach Charles Huff brought over pretty
much the whole program. Alynn Braxton he brings over from Marshall.
He will start at quarterback. He was eight and one
as the start of nineteen to two touchdown the interception ratio.

(05:08):
Jeffrey Pittman is expected to be one of the best
running backs in the Sun Belt. They lost their top
three transfers and added five transfers from Marshall and one
from Old Miss. In the receiving corps, one starter returns
on the offensive line. Four Marshall transfers will help the
defensive line. Sophomore Chris Jones leads the linebackers, and six

(05:28):
Marshall transfers will try to boast the defensive backfield. I
think that this will be a much improved Southern Miss
team Charles Huff I think will light a program like
this program on fire and bring them a spark that
they were missing. And for that reason, I think that
app State loses to Southern miss I mean, you.

Speaker 6 (05:50):
Talk about eight mile in it. You did just run
down the list to some of the guys coming over.
But you are right. It was the point I was
going to make, and that everything is new. The good
news for them is that everything should be new. Offensively,
they were one of the worst teams at converting on
third downs last year. That's a great tell all stat
If you see a team that is one of the
worst in the country at converting on third down, no

(06:10):
matter what level of football you're discussing, they're probably awful.
So they have a completely revamped offense. They absolutely should.
Anytime you do some research on them, you say their
defense wasn't terrible terrible last year. They were still bad,
but they weren't terrible. I do think that this is
going to be a program on the rise. At the
same time, they're dealing with a bunch of new just
like App State is. I think familiarity will be a

(06:32):
nice enough advantage against app State for those types of
programs Southern Miss is not one of those types of
programs right now, the Mountaineers get the dub.

Speaker 5 (06:40):
Yeah, there's a lot that has to change for Southern
Miss to go from a one to eleven team to
be what Charles Huff and Marshall was last year as
a ten win football team. I think it's gonna take
some time. They will be better this year, but I
think sad. I think if you're app State, you catch
them at the right point of the schedule. So I'm

(07:02):
gonna go with app State to win this game, but
it could be a pretty close one, especially considering they've
lost to a three to them.

Speaker 2 (07:07):
All right after that, got a toughie September twenty seventh,
off of a bye, they will be at number twenty
five Boise State. These are the two winnings group of
five schools of the last decade. App is one and
two all time versus the Mountain West. Boise State went
twelve and two last season. Thirteen starters are back. They're
going to replace Ashton gent by committee. Maddox Madsen was

(07:31):
third team All Mountain West last year. They're supposed to
have the best offensive line in the Mountain West and
also to The defense should be pretty good as well.
Jaden virgin Morgan was first team All mount West on
the d line linebacker is a little bit of concern.
And then they return their top tackler in safety, Todd Benningfield,
and they have experience and good transfers that will man

(07:53):
the defensive backfield. I say all that to say app
takes a big l in this one and catches a
beat down in Noise.

Speaker 1 (08:01):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (08:01):
I want to pick app State in games like this
on the road, not a whole lot of people considering
them a real winner. Boise State will play Notre Dame
the following week. That's their first real test. It's South Florida,
Eastern Washington Air Force, then App State. There's some decent
teams in there. South Florida, They're only a five and
a half point favorite on the road against That game

(08:22):
is gonna be ESPN kicked, by the way. I just
feel like there could be some things that help App
State out a little bit. This is not the app
State that I've watched over the last decade, not now.

Speaker 1 (08:33):
A lot of stuff is new.

Speaker 6 (08:35):
Usually, the Mountaineers are a program that can transition from
one coach to the other quite well. I haven't seen
it in a situation where coach got fired right like,
and if they did get fired, it was because Jerry
Moore was at the tail end of his legendary career.
So we haven't seen it like this. I'm with you,
Wes all that to say, I think Boise State is

(08:57):
going to be too much for all the reasons you stated.

Speaker 5 (08:59):
This is a Boise ass whooping that's coming. Said the
way of the Mountaineers. I mean, look, you bring back
Maddox Madson at quarterback. He was pretty good last year.
There'll be more on his shoulders this year. You return
you know, pretty much your entire offensive line from a
year ago. There are some guys that are stepping up
that may even knock out some of the starters that

(09:20):
may have struggled a bit. This team returns plenty from
the defense that got them to help get them to
the College Football Playoff. This is probably a college football
playoff team again this year. App State we thought last year,
didn't we say last year we predicted them to go
like eleven and one or.

Speaker 1 (09:37):
Something like that.

Speaker 6 (09:38):
Yeah, he said, you guys a couple of times. But
I can't blame West because we were very wrong. And
he doesn't want to be in this pool of wrongness.
So we were though you and I were on the
same pace, right.

Speaker 5 (09:50):
I don't think that app State is anywhere near contending
to make the college football Playoff. That's where you would
have to be to be Boise. Boise wins this one
by a lot all right.

Speaker 2 (10:00):
After that, they stayed playing another Power for team. October fourth,
they will take on Oregon State. This is their first
meeting and first home game versus a Pac twelve team.
They will get Oregon State to come to the rock.
The last ten meetings with Power four teams, APP is
one and nine. Oregon State was five and seven last year.
They bring back eleven. Malik Murphy, the former duke quarterback,

(10:23):
will be their quarterback this year. He went twenty six
touchdowns to twelve picks last year. He'll be decent at
running back. Lost their top two tight ends, but have
good experience and receiver. They've got one starter back on
the O line and inexperienced transfers are expected to step
up on the defense. Linebacker, They're okay, defensive backfield expected
to be improved. With all of that said, I still

(10:45):
think Oregon State would be a little bit more talented
than this version of the Apple out the State Mountaineers,
and so I think for that reason, Oregon State gets
the victory.

Speaker 6 (10:53):
Yeah, I agree with you. It's not necessarily like what
we saw from them a couple of years ago. And
they go ten to three, and then they go eight
and five. They were five and seven and twenty twenty four.
So when you think Oregon State, it's like, hey man,
they're on the rise. They're doing a nice job, except
last year they weren't Bowl eligible. I do think the
Beavers are probably going to be a little too much
for app State. Again, the kind of conditions that would

(11:16):
usually have you pointing towards the Mountaineers and saying this
could be an upset type of game against the bigger school.
Not this time. I have them going zero to two
over a two week span.

Speaker 5 (11:26):
Yeah, I think they probably lose this game as well.
I mean, look, Oregon State's not great. You said they
were a power conference school. I mean, I guess technically righted,
But but my thing is is they don't have power
conference talent anymore. Guys are not willing to play for
a team that's independent basically like they are right now.
I mean, I know they got the agreement with the

(11:47):
Mountain West, but it's very similar to what Notre Dame
has in the agreement with the ACC, So the talent
gap is not nearly as big as it would be
with other Power Conference schools. That being said, I still
think Oregon State has a little bit more talent. I
think they're going to be a team that's probably going
to be going bowling this year, and I don't think
app State is probably So I'll go with Oregon State.

Speaker 2 (12:10):
All right, We'll sneak in real quick before the break.
October eleventh, they will be at Georgia State. Georgia State
brings back nine from a three to nine football team.
APP is eleven and zero versus Georgia State since they
joined the Sun Belt, and I think that they move
on to twelve and zero and get a victory over
Georgia State at Georgia State.

Speaker 6 (12:27):
There's a reason you tried to squeeze this one in
before we went to the Yeah, eleven eleven.

Speaker 1 (12:34):
And ozerh against Georgia State.

Speaker 6 (12:36):
That would be a pretty bad loss for dal Loggins
to lose some school that you haven't lost to in
the last eleven matchups.

Speaker 1 (12:41):
I don't think it happens. I agree with you.

Speaker 5 (12:43):
I think app State, Georgia State's probably going to finish
last in this division in the sun Belt. I believe
that app State will be able to take care of them,
even though it's on the road.

Speaker 1 (12:52):
All right.

Speaker 2 (12:52):

I think they said that's like sixteen that will be

the socials WFNZ on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. Also you

Underscore seventy two, at Walker Mail, most importantly at Wes
and Walker and fire Fizzle.

Speaker 1 (14:30):
It's coming up next.

Speaker 2 (14:31):
We're going to talk about famous NFL logos in honor
of the Jerry Jones documentary when they talk about putting
a star on the helmet. So we're going to go
through some of the more famous logos an NFL lore.

Speaker 6 (14:44):
I think you kind of had an all timer back
to back category fire Fizzle the last couple of weeks.
People really enjoyed it. I myself really enjoyed the all
time TV neighbors, Yes, and the.

Speaker 1 (14:57):
Like infamous TV Grandma.

Speaker 6 (14:59):
Which is what I love about fire Fizzle now is
that we're starting to get into very very niche categories,
not TV grandmothers, infamous, TV grandmother infamous. Well, we have
subcategories for some of your fire fisicle categories.

Speaker 2 (15:15):
Badranis all right, so let's get back into it, talk
about it. Coastal Carolina is up now for the Appalachian
State Mountaineers October eighteenth. They will be home for this
app leads to series seven or four, but they've lost
the last three at home at home versus Coastal. They
are six and one, though Coastal was six and seven
last year.

Speaker 1 (15:34):
They bring back nine.

Speaker 2 (15:35):
They lost their top five running backs, but former NC
State quarterback MJ. Morris will be the quarterback after coming
over from Maryland Vetsman receiving corps and offensive line.

Speaker 1 (15:46):
Three starters return on defense.

Speaker 2 (15:47):
But they bought in nineteen former starters in the portal.
This is going to be a pretty good game. I
like this little rivalry that they have going on, and
I have Coastal Carolina taking the victory on the road.

Speaker 6 (16:02):
I think this win app State gets back on the
winning side of things here. I haven't beating Georgia State,
but of course we all expect them to beat Georgia State.
This is going to be the first matchup that Dal
Loggins has where I think you have a fifty to
fifty proposition that you can really well. Okay, you have
Charlotte in the opener. We haven't picked Charlotte, so that's
going to be an important game for both of those schools.
Lynden Wood you're expected to beat. I think Southern miss

(16:24):
you're expected to beat, and then you're probably expected to lose.
Poise State. Oregon State expected to win Georgia State. Okay,
here we are with Coastal. This feels like a defining
moment for app right here, smack dab in the middle
of the season. How are you going to finish the
year with a couple of road games against Old Dominion
and James Madison. You have your rival Georgia Southern coming
to town November sixth on a Thursday. That's always a

(16:45):
monster game on the rock. Pivotal moment here, west. I
think app State's going to realize that, and I think
they're gonna turn I don't even know if they're going
to turn things around. I think what's going to happen
is they're gonna build off of the win they had
the previous week against Georgia State, with such a pivotal matchup,
they beat the Chanticleers.

Speaker 1 (17:00):
All right.

Speaker 5 (17:01):
I like how much Coastal Carolina is bringing back. I
do like the fact that they are going with MJ.

Speaker 1 (17:07):
Morris.

Speaker 5 (17:07):
I think that's the right quarterback to go with. And
I think Tim Beck's really starting to find his way
here at Coastal Carolina. I think this is going to
be the year where they are going to finally get
to a or they got to a bowl game last year,
but this will be the year they finally finished over
five hundred under him. And so for that reason, I
will go with Coastal Carolina, even though it's on the road,

(17:29):
I think I will go with Coastal over app State.

Speaker 6 (17:32):
I heard a lot of Jersey bikes in that take
a lot of turkey. I don't get turkey, damnit. That's
a lot of ham. That's ham and perjudo.

Speaker 2 (17:44):
Yeah, m okay, So that's a prosudo opinion.

Speaker 1 (17:49):
Yeah, all right.

Speaker 2 (17:49):
October twenty fifth, Old Dominion app leads this series four
to one. Avas won and three in their last four games,
though before a bye, Old Dominion has.

Speaker 1 (17:59):
Ten guys coming back. They went five and seven last year.

Speaker 2 (18:01):
Colton Joseph, a decent duel threat quarterback, returns for them
and three offensive linemen.

Speaker 1 (18:08):
They're expected to be better at the skill positions.

Speaker 2 (18:10):
They may have the Sun Belt's best linebacking corps led
by Jason Henderson, and their top sack man, Chris Trinidad
is back in the secondary though they were depleted by departures.
This is where I think Apple Lata State gets back
on the winning side of things and they get the
victory at Oh Demean.

Speaker 6 (18:29):
Yeah, I agree with you. You know, they've lost quite
a bit. They were a good football team in some aspects.
They ran the football quite well. I wonder if the
app State defensive line, if they are going to be
continuing that running prowess going into the season. Can the
app State defense handle it nearly as well? With all
the new coaching regime, all the players that they have,

(18:50):
they just have something that they can serve as their
identity over there with the Monarchs, and so that would
be the interesting thing for me to watch in this game.
But I agree with you. I think app State is
a better football team. They seem to be more talented
coming into this season. I do have love for dal Loggins.
I think that they continue They're winning ways in my world,
and this will be a three game winning streak for them.
So I have them get into another victory against the Monarchs.

Speaker 1 (19:12):
I have old dominion in this game.

Speaker 5 (19:14):
I think old dominion the extra year of the extra
year for some of those guys, that the skill positions
will allow them to be better. I know they don't
return a lot on the offensive line, but I think
by this point in the season they'll be fine.

Speaker 1 (19:28):
Colton Joseph solid. But you talked about it.

Speaker 5 (19:30):
Their defense really looks like it's going to be one
of the better ones in the Sunbelt. I think that's
going to be a challenge for this app State offense,
which I don't think is necessarily going to be that
great no matter which quarterback they go with.

Speaker 1 (19:42):
So give me the.

Speaker 5 (19:43):
Monarchs to take this one, considering it's in their place
over app State.

Speaker 2 (19:47):
Off of the buy November sixth versus Georgia Southern DSU
was eight and five last year and they bring back
twelve guys head coach Clay Hilton says this is the
best offense. He feels like that he has had it
George Southern and they averaged twenty eight points per game
last year. Defense returned seven guys and they gave up
twenty eight points per game last year. But I think

(20:08):
that the Appalachis State Mountaineers do not keep the winning
ways going. Georgia Southern gets the road victory on the rock.
I'm with you, and you've seen Georgia Southern. They got
the win last year, they got the win in twenty
twenty two in double overtime. They've been able to score
on app I think Georgia Southern gets the win here
as well. So after the three game winning streak with

(20:29):
APP State, I do expect Georgia Southern to get the
victory in boone Disco Rut.

Speaker 5 (20:34):
Yeah, Georgia Southern's been a thorn in the side of
app State for a long time, even when APP State
has had some of their better teams. So I think
this year, considering that they are probably going to be
a little bit better than they were last year, this is,
you know, an offense that's being talked about as possibly
being the best that Clay Helton's had since he's gotten there,
and I think Clay Helton's a pretty decent coach. I
never thought he was the problem at USC when he

(20:57):
was there. I think Georgia Southern wins this game. This
is a tough one for APP to swallow, considering it's
at home, but Georgia Southern's just too much.

Speaker 2 (21:05):
Then another tough one comes up against a team that
a lot of people think will win the Sunbelt out
right at James Madison. The Dukes bring back nine players
they went nine to four last year. Alonze Barnett, Clounder's
favorite group of five player returns at quarterback after being
a fourth team Sun Belt selection last season. They have

(21:26):
the best running back room in the Sunbelt according to many,
and a good offensive line.

Speaker 1 (21:31):
Horse starters will come.

Speaker 2 (21:32):
Back to help a defense that is expected to be
one of, if not the best, in the Sun Belt.
Sorry app State, but I don't feel like you got
anything for the Dukes. You get duked out. See you
later on.

Speaker 6 (21:44):
The road too, Like there's just not a whole lot
working for you in this scenario.

Speaker 1 (21:48):
I do think APP stayed.

Speaker 6 (21:49):
At this point of the season, they're going to start
to form an identity themselves, and so now they'll have
something to fall back on if things get a little hairy.
But I do expect things to get a little more
than just Harry against the due Duke's app State they
end up losing this one.

Speaker 5 (22:02):
The one thing that's interesting about this game is that
remember last year, towards the end of the year, app
State struggling limps into the game against James Madison, but
finds a way to beat them by fourteen. So I
think this is going to be a close game. But
I think on the road it's just probably a little
too much to ask for app State give me James

(22:22):
Madison to win this game, especially because the Linza Barnett
is back.

Speaker 2 (22:26):
All right, November twenty second Marshall comes to calling, they
will come to the rock after going ten and three
last year. But we just talked about it. They have
been depleted severely after head coach Charles Huff.

Speaker 1 (22:39):
Went to Southern Miss.

Speaker 2 (22:40):
Only four starters of back offense lost their quarterback to
Southern Miss. They lost their top five running backs, top
four receivers, and top four offensive lineman, not to mention
sixteen of their top seventeen tacklers are gone. Including NFL
Draft choice and controversial topic here on Weston Walker Mike Green.
Even though many transfers will enter the freight to try

(23:02):
to help them out, I feel like Marshall has lost
too much. This is a program that is certainly on
a downward trajectory, and Abstate gets the victory.

Speaker 6 (23:12):
So you mentioned a lot of the players that they lost.
Just to put it in terms of stat leaders, no
passer on the roster through for a large yard last season.
A bunch of fat they threw for lard is what
I said. No returney rushed for a yard. Two returnees
caught passes for this team. Those responsible for forty nine
of sixty five offensive line starts are gone. One of

(23:34):
eight defensive linemen with at least fifty snaps returns only
one of them. The total linebacker snaps returning is three
three linebacker snaps, and finally, two of the thirteen defensive
backs with at least thirty snaps return The other thing
about this is life can change fast in the Sun
Belt when you win a championship. The teams that won
championships in twenty twenty one and twenty twenty three in

(23:56):
Louisiana and Troy who then lost their head coach fewer.

Speaker 1 (24:00):
Games the following season.

Speaker 6 (24:02):
A whole lot is lining up for Marshall to not
be very good this year. I think app State beats
the Thundering Hurt.

Speaker 5 (24:08):
Yeah, Marshall's gonna suck this year. Let's just put it
out there. They are gonna be the worst team in
this conference because of all that they lost, and they
deserve to be the worst team in this conference because
they fired Charles Huff despite doing a great job there.
That's a coaching move that will never make any sense
to me, even though you got Tony Gibson, a guy
that we think could be trending in the right direction

(24:28):
eventually somewhere down the line.

Speaker 1 (24:30):
When it comes to being a.

Speaker 5 (24:31):
Head coach this year, there's just no hope for that team.
If they finish one and eleven, I wouldn't be shocked.
I think Gap State beats him pretty easily.

Speaker 2 (24:39):
Dam So you said ton of Gibson coming in and
just looking off.

Speaker 5 (24:43):
I don't think it's Tony Gibson's problem. I think when
you lose that many guys, it's a complete turnover. And
I'm gonna tell you, I don't think Marshall's gonna have
a lot of fans of games because a lot of
their fans were not happy with the choice to get
rid of Charles Huff.

Speaker 1 (24:58):
I think if they're in for a bad year.

Speaker 2 (25:00):
All right for me and Appalachian State their last game
taking on Arkansas State on November twenty ninth, I think
a bowl game will be on the line because I've
got him at five and six right now. Arkansas State
returned six from an eight and five squad.

Speaker 1 (25:15):
Jalen Rayner returns at quarterback.

Speaker 2 (25:17):
He's one of the better dual threats in the Sunbelt
to queses Cross. He ran for six hundred and thirty
eight yards last year running back. He did lose for
their top five pass catchers from last season, but wide
receiver Corey Rucker returns after going for over one thousand
yards and he was a second team All Sun Belt
selection one starters back on the offensive line, the defensive

(25:37):
line has been depleted. They will be manned by a
bunch of transfers, and they lost all four starters in
the secondary. I think on the rock, Abs State looking
to try to get to a bowl game.

Speaker 1 (25:50):
In dal Login's first season.

Speaker 2 (25:52):
It's going to be cold toes shivering everything and they
get the victory.

Speaker 1 (25:58):
Hey get to a bowl game.

Speaker 6 (26:00):
Oh yeah, all right, So I already have them safely
in a bowl game with six wins leading up to
this finale against Arkansas State. You mentioned some of the
offensive players that they have, they should be just fine
on that side of the ball. It really is all
about the defense. With that being said, having replenished a
lot of the players because they're gone now, I do
think that there is some talent and it's actually you

(26:21):
start to look at every single player that they brought
in through the portal and pretty solid last year. I
think that they all contributed at their stops the previous season.
I think Arkansas State has enough talent defensively. It's just
all about building that continuity. But you're going to be
playing app State at the end of the year. You'll
have plenty of time to start to get into a rhythm.
I think Arkansas State ends up winning. Good news for

(26:41):
app in my world is that they're already in a
bowl game, but they are going to lose the finale
at home.

Speaker 5 (26:46):
Okay, I think they'll win this game, especially at home.
I think there could be a bowl game that could
be on the on the play for them. I think
Arkansas State, they just they lost at last year, and
I feel like by this time of the season you
should have your answers. I think Arkansas State will be
solid team. I think both teams will probably come in

(27:08):
battling to make it to a bowl game.

Speaker 1 (27:10):
But at home.

Speaker 5 (27:11):
Give me app State figuring it out just enough to
make it to a bowl game when it's all said
and done.

Speaker 6 (27:17):
Now, the other thing is Charlotte. We haven't picked that
game yet, have not, so I still have them with
six victories at least at this point, Okay, independent or
you know, yeah, independent of the Charlotte game.

Speaker 1 (27:30):
So we'll see.

Speaker 6 (27:30):
So I got them safely in and you have them
safely and I guess depending on what happens against Charlotte.

Speaker 2 (27:35):
Yeah, well yeah, depending on what happens against Charlotte. And
I think the last game will be pivotal. So what
do we think, I mean, if they go towards the
level of seven wins, like maybe you guys have them
or six wins like I do, but we'll start with
you guys, like seven wins in his first year. Hypothetically,
do you think app State fans are happy with that
app State. I think it's okay to.

Speaker 6 (27:56):
At the bare minimum ask for a bowl game or
even a little bit better. I don't think they want
to be shaken in their boots on whether they're going
to be playing in a bowl game or not. So
potentially in your world that could be the case. Facing
Arkansas State at the end of the season. I don't
think you would love it. Even if you get Bowl eligible,
It's okay. I'd like to be a little bit better. Yeah,
And they've earned that, right man, Like, even with you

(28:18):
having a different head coach, even if Dal Logins deserves
some grace, nobody's gonna fire Dal Loggins if you win
six games. I just think Mountaineer fans they have high
expectations because.

Speaker 1 (28:27):
That's all they know. And that's okay.

Speaker 6 (28:29):
Like here, I am, as a Charlotte forty nine er
football fan, I would love to be in that world.
I would love to be in that scenario where I
demand you got to get to a bowl game.

Speaker 1 (28:38):
And that's where they are.

Speaker 6 (28:39):
They've earned that over the course of different coaches, whether
it's Jerry Moore, Scott Saderfield, Eli Drinkwitz, Sean Clark, it
doesn't matter. Those guys win football games, So I think
you would like to be pretty solidly in bowl eligible.

Speaker 2 (28:52):
Yeah, I think he will definitely get some grace because
it's the first year he's going to have a new
started quarterbacks. I think fans will be paid. But then
I think next year will start to ratchet up just
a little bit, especially depending on how the recruiting class looks,
et cetera. And I think, like anything, it depends on
how does it look. How do your losses look? Are
you getting out classed by teams that you should not be?

(29:14):
I mean, when you play Boise State, if you get
beat down pretty bad.

Speaker 1 (29:17):
I mean I'm not sure.

Speaker 2 (29:18):
I don't think the fans would be too upset about
that it was a college football playoff team. And then
like maybe in Oregon State, can you hang with them?
Can you battle it out with them? And so I
think that matters how does it look for them down
the stretch?

Speaker 1 (29:32):
But final, what say you?

Speaker 2 (29:33):
How should app State fans feel if they are able
to reach a bowl game? Maybe safely with seven or
barely with six.

Speaker 5 (29:41):
I mean, regardless, I think if you reach a bowl game,
you should feel like this is a successful season. Dal
Logins was not the sexiest hire that you could have made.
If you were app State, you would have thought that
you would be able to go out and get a
bigger name than that, considering the history.

Speaker 1 (29:56):
That app State has.

Speaker 5 (29:58):
But this is the guy that they settled on, and
for me, I don't have the loftiest expectations for them.
I mean, look where I have him sitting right now.
I got them with five wins. So everything comes down
to that Charlotte game as to whether or not they're
going to make a bowl game.

Speaker 1 (30:12):
I just there's a lot that has to be overhauled
with this team.

Speaker 5 (30:16):
So to me, if you find a way to get
to a bowl game, you should feel pretty confident because
I don't think, first of all, I don't think your
quarterback play is anywhere near where it needs to be.
In order to feel comfortable about you making a bowl game,
You're gonna have to scrape.

Speaker 1 (30:32):
Your way into one, and I think you should be
happy if it happens.

Speaker 6 (30:35):
If we're talking about app stage just a little longer,
big higher for Doug Gillen, because what he did was
go outside the family for a guy that wasn't an
overwhelming favorite. If you're going for dal Loggins, that's a
little different than going outside the family for a coach
that has the Tim Albin resume. Right, we've made that comparison.

(30:55):
If Appstate hires Tim Albin, then we're like, they're back
black and gold all of that, and we're feeling great
about it. They hired somebody that hasn't had a ton
of success.

Speaker 1 (31:05):
As a head coach. We just don't know what it's
gonna look like.

Speaker 6 (31:07):
They had some success going outside the family before any
lied Drinkuts, but drink Wits left and used you as
a stepping stone. That's what happened after one year and
left kind of in the night. So I'm interested to
see what happens if dal Loggins does have success, and
if he does have that success, then what's he gonna
do with it?

Speaker 1 (31:24):
Yeah, and they're black and yellow, not black and gold. Okay,
I know they like the state now now.

Speaker 2 (31:29):
One oh number says on the FANDO text line, at
least eight or nine wins should always be the standard.

Speaker 1 (31:34):
On the mountain. American Chopperty disappointed.

Speaker 2 (31:36):
American Choppers says, no way you pick app Stak Tomorrow
Walker Coaster Charlie says, I just got in a car.
Did you guys have app State, He called him upstate
beating Coast of Carolina or losing.

Speaker 1 (31:48):
I had them losing to Coastal Carolina, sir.

Speaker 2 (31:50):
And lastly, Shaggy says, Charlotte is beating app and Carolina.
Let's go Nineers. Yeah, Walk, I think you're Charlotte for
a fan base definitely counting on you to pick the
forty nine ers tomorrow, even though you won't reveal it now,
but I think they kneel very strong. I mean, I
know how you can get on game the day before
games as well, but you know, I'm going to give

(32:11):
you the benefit of the doubt. How I get on
the game the day before games? Would it? I mean,
you know you you like we talked about yesterday when
we were joking with Kyle about how he was talking
himself into how the tech him beat. Yeah, we start
to get you started to get worked there, and we
are all we all are.

Speaker 1 (32:29):
Victim of it.

Speaker 2 (32:29):
When we have an opponent that people feel like could
be a tough one or something like that, we start
to talk ourselves and that alumni pride or that that
big fandom starts to come through and you start to
work yourself in till I.

Speaker 6 (32:41):
Didn't know what you meant. I raised my hand high
on you. You start to work your way and I
am that.

Speaker 1 (32:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (32:46):
The closer you get to it, you feel the crowd,
the energy, the excitement, and you're like.

Speaker 1 (32:50):
Let's go, baby, we winning. Do I believe in my team?
Is the question you're asking me.

Speaker 6 (32:54):
Yes, I do believe in my team, but maybe not
officially until tomorrow. I could do a he'll turn be
good for the show. Maybe it's all cynical. Maybe I'm just.

Speaker 1 (33:04):
Doing it for the good of the show. I don't know.

Speaker 6 (33:06):
You gotta tune in tomorrow to find out. For what
is largely a Charlotte show. Can you imagine if it
was all Charlotte all day long, and then at the
very end I put on the Mountaineer headgear, man, you.

Speaker 2 (33:16):
Wouldn't be able to go to any more games. You
would get attacked. You'd have to use me a security
all right. When we come back, folks, and on them.
The Jerry Jones documentary Famous NFL logos on fire, Fizzle,
Sport's ready on ninety two seven w f Z.

Speaker 6 (33:41):
My man's been on a heater. We're going away from TV.
We're going to focus on sports. Football. Yeah, football, it's back.
We talked about being on football Island. Let's play football
fire or fizzle, except this time it's really more so
regarding famous NFL logos. This is in honor of the

(34:01):
Jerry Jones Slash Cowboys documentary on Netflix, which, by the way,
we haven't talked a lot about, but it is straight fire.

Speaker 2 (34:08):
As well, and he talked about putting that star on
your helmet and what that means.

Speaker 1 (34:11):
I said, let's do some logos.

Speaker 6 (34:13):
By the way, I just need to mention this real
quickly before we dive in the intro to that documentary.
We've talked about it off air, one of the best
documentary intros I've ever seen. Almost became a Cowboys fan
psych I'm just playing, you know me, I'm a Panthers fan.
Let's go okay, number one stealers only on one side
of the helmet. They're a little unique in that regard.

(34:33):
Fire Fizzle West.

Speaker 2 (34:34):
The Pittsburgh Steelers logo made his debut in nineteen sixty nine,
with the only slight modifications since then. It showcases three diamonds,
which represent materials vital to the city's industrial prowess. Yellow
for coal, red for iron, and blue or steel crap,
which I had never heard of. I thought that was

(34:55):
just some trash talk. The logos meaning goes beyond the
football field. It proudly represent Pittsburgh's identity as a blue
collar city with a rich history of industrial innovation. From
Terry Bradshaw to Frank o'harris to Antonio Brown and Big
Ben Roethlisberger, some of your favorite Steelers. So when you

(35:20):
talk about this Stealer's logo, yellow for coal, red for iron,
blue for steel crap.

Speaker 1 (35:27):
As we start this, fire fizzle.

Speaker 2 (35:29):
I may not have a lot of love for the
Pittsburgh Steelers, but this logo is straight fizzle. What the
hell did you think I was gonna say I hate
the Steelers.

Speaker 6 (35:38):
You could take that terrible towel and you burn it,
That's right. So what Kevin Garnett is telling you to do?
Number two? Interested where this is going? The Green Bay
Packers logo? All right, I know one certain quarterback that
you think is Fizzle, that wore that Packer's logo for
a while.

Speaker 1 (35:55):
It's not like I'll stop. Go ahead, tell me Firefizzle.

Speaker 2 (36:00):
From Bart's Star to Brett Farv to that pompous, arrogant
finger pointer Aaron Rodgers. The Green Bay Packers is stylized
G enclosed with the green oval. Is designed and was
designed in nineteen sixty one by equipment manager Gerald Brisher

(36:22):
and art student John Gordon. The G represents the Green
Bay with simplicity and nothing more, and it's rendered in
the team's official colors, green and gold. Green symbolizes the
football team's name and its association with the natural environment
of Wisconsin, while gold represents excellence and success. The bold

(36:42):
and classic design reflects the teams enduring legacy and the
values of hard work and perseverance. So when you see
that G, that's one of those logos across the world.
It there's no question what team you are cheering for.
They have cheeseheads and other things too to help you
know what time it is. When it comes to the
Green Bay Packers and the G on that helmet, it

(37:03):
is rked fizzle. Let's get you to hell too, Okay,
you burn, get you gone A two fizzle beginning. I
don't know have we seen it, flouns, I have not
seen this to start off with two fizzles.

Speaker 6 (37:15):
We don't see a lot of it. Let's move on,
we I mean the forty nine Ers logo. I think
I think we just took up checking this out. Okay, well,
I'm just gonna say I think we saw our leadoff
Fizzle Streak end too.

Speaker 1 (37:34):
But you can tell me. Maybe you surprise us fire
Fizzle West.

Speaker 2 (37:36):
From Joe Montana to Charlotte's Home, Dwight Clark, Jerry, Rice,
Terall Lowans, you name it. The San Francisco forty nine
is logo integrates a basic red background housing the team's
initials SFN bold white.

Speaker 1 (37:52):
Which stands for San Francisco.

Speaker 2 (37:54):
If you didn't know, within a football shape design with
gold accents at the edges, it didn't include gold until
nineteen ninety six. Forty nine Ers made the clever choice
to incorporate gold to pay homage to San Francisco's gold
Rush heritage, representing the spirit of ambition, exploration, and pursuit
of dreams, and the red equals energy and passion. Walker

(38:19):
mil you said that you feel like that the fiddle
streak has ended right here when you talk to San
Francisco's forty nine ers logo, it's not the most intricate
when you look at it. You know, I'm a very
visual man. I can like the team and not necessarily
like the logo. So when it comes to the San
Francisco forty nine ers logo on the side of that helmet,

(38:39):
it is the.

Speaker 1 (38:40):
Right fighting What the hell did you think it was going?
I get so happy when I see that logo.

Speaker 6 (38:46):
Yeah, it's not cold in here anymore. Stay hydrated with
all that fizzle, it's now starting to heat up.

Speaker 1 (38:52):
You eight fooling. I tryst.

Speaker 6 (38:55):
I tried to throw you off myself. It was a
nice truck. It was a nice attempt. Cowboy logo fifty
to fifty here man, fifty to fifty. Yeah, what you got?
The Dallas Cowboys from EMMITTT. Smith, Troy Ai Back in
the day, to Roger the Dodger Starback and all of
the other famous cowboys the first eighty eight Drew Pearson

(39:17):
and now to Michael Parsons and Dak Prescott and Cede
Lamb and the crew. They became a part of the
league in the year nineteen sixty and they unveiled their
official logo in nineteen sixty four, featuring a simple yet
iconic blue star. Blue represents strength, confidence, and loyalty, while
white represents purity and integrity. It pays tribute to Texas's

(39:40):
nickname the Lone Star State, and had also become a
symbol of America's team, representing the cowboys widespread fan base
and their status as a cultural in sports sensation. There
aren't many logos that you can put on. There aren't
many teams that you could play for and become basically
famous for no reason. It's almost like reality TV. The Yankees,

(40:05):
the Cowboys, the Lakers.

Speaker 2 (40:06):
You put those uniforms on and that is forever a
feather in your cap. And when you talk about the
Dallas Cowboys logo and everything that it represents, uniforms, merchandise
all over the place, and a great documentary that you
can watch on Netflix, the Dallas Cowboys logo is the
right fizzle that cost me too much pain in my lifetime. Okay,

(40:30):
I did not know where that was going to be honest,
with much pain in my life.

Speaker 1 (40:33):
Okay, that was fifty to fifty proposition.

Speaker 6 (40:35):
I thought it might get a crazy fire, wide range
of outcomes there, wide range of outcomes. Okay, we move on.
I think I know where this one's going. I need
to stop trying to guess. I apologize Panthers. Last one, Yes,
the Carolina Panthers' logo. Is it Fire Panther West or
is it Fizzle forty nine ers West.

Speaker 2 (40:54):
The Panthers' logo has been redesigned once in the team's
nearly thirty years three, as well as the uniforms okay
from Steve Burline the man that wore forty extra pounds
of equipment out there, to Jake DeLong, to Steve's Smith,
Julius Pepper's Superman, Cam Newton.

Speaker 1 (41:13):
The original design was.

Speaker 2 (41:15):
Created in the early nineties by NFL Properties, the league's
branding arm, working closely with team ownership. Mark Richardson, the
team president and son of Jered Richardson, had already picked
out Carolina's black, blue, and silver color scheme.

Speaker 1 (41:30):
Those choices they.

Speaker 2 (41:31):
Do criticism from NFL officials when the franchise was announced
in nineteen ninety three, but Richardson's vision emphasized strength, sleekness,
and regional identity. And then many people feel like that
the logo represents the two states in one in a
subtle way, but that has never really been confirmed like that,

(41:51):
and it's up for debate if that is indeed true.
But adding weight to the belief, longtime Panthers radio voice
Mick Mixon told the State in twenty sixteen that the
team's logo is indeed meant to mimic an outline of
the two states, and then the Panthers made some changes
to it.

Speaker 1 (42:09):
They removed the thin black outline.

Speaker 2 (42:11):
They used boulder more dynamic swass of blue to add
definition instead of an outline of blue looks like highlights
hinting of the Panthers fur and the overall effect is
more realistic and fiersome. And the brand also transitioned to
a slightly brighter shade of blue to create more contrasts.
The nose and whiskers were changed from silver to blue,
leaving only the teeth and.

Speaker 1 (42:32):
The eye silver.

Speaker 2 (42:33):
The Carolina Panthers and this logo, what does it mean
as we close out fire or fizzle Queen City?

Speaker 1 (42:42):
Maybe the pride will come through, maybe it won't.

Speaker 2 (42:45):
But for the Caroline of Panthers' logo, it is straight
the hell did y'all think was gonna happen?

Speaker 1 (42:51):
Straight? Fizzle? Man, that's a lot of the music.

Speaker 6 (42:55):
Oh disappointed. I knew it was going to happen. I
don't know why I gased myself out in so.

Speaker 1 (43:00):
Basically every logo in the NFL just suck.

Speaker 6 (43:04):
It's a four fizzle fire fizzle ladies and telemen. We
got four of them. Nobody's logo matters, but that seth Yeah, okay,
all right, I mean just all of them Steelers, Packers, Cowboys,
even the hometown kids. The Panther had to have some fun.
They're all fizzle. Man, we're not having fun. They're sad
around here.

Speaker 1 (43:21):
That'll do it.
