Speaker 1 (00:00):
You were listening to the Wes and Walker Show.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
I will acknowledge that I used to have to go
to Walmart.
Speaker 1 (00:05):
It's Wes, this man saying I have to go to Walmart,
like it's like a place that you got the dollar bottom.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
He's like, I used to have to go and Walker
is as cheap as a gift when I didn't have
any money at all in Colin.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
I mean, honestly, I can see your brain from here.
That's how far your noses up in the air.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
This is unbelievable.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
Only on Sports Radio ninety two point seven FM WFNZ.
I'm not just dropping dollar bills on whatever I want
to get, but.
Speaker 4 (00:35):
Low key welcome back, folks.
Speaker 1 (00:53):
This is the one o'clock hour beginning here on the
west On Walker Show. And I mean, I guess we
can consider it a holiday of sorts. The college football
playoffs begins this weekend. It starts tonight, so let's go
ahead and get into this. We got some more news
as well. I know Duke fans are dancing in the
streets too, so let's get to it. Well out any
(01:15):
further ADU. Oh but I forget it's ball and the falling,
So let me drop the news before we do that,
because this is at the typical carry Conna. There you go,
but Duke quarterback there at Mensa is returning to Duke
for the twenty twenty sixth season, passing on the NFL
Draft one of the best quarterbacks in the country. Yes,
I definitely think he makes Duke an ACC favorite coming
into next year. The conference looks as wide open as
(01:37):
it's ever been. Would say, you, Walker, does this move
make Duke an ACC football favorite? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:42):
I think you have to immediately go to them because
also I think they have what is it, Nate Shepherd
that's also coming back. If I saw that, So now
you have guys that are familiar with the system that
did experience success, even if it wasn't what we wanted
at the top of the ACC. As ACC fans, they
experience what you wanted to do winning an ACC two.
I The last thing I'll say on this is man
(02:02):
Duke has done such a good job of making a
commitment immediately and then sticking with him, throwing all of
the reinforcements and the resources there. It's like, hey, we
want you, like, here's the check, here's the money. We're
not messing around with anybody else. Remember how early Mensa
signed with Duke during the transfer portal just last season.
They had their target, they went out and they got them,
(02:25):
and they didn't waste any time. So I don't think
that that is a coincidence that Mensa hit the ground
running with as much accuracy, with as much production as
he did at the very beginning of the year. It's
a great way to get a leg up on people
now here. We are before we even get to the
college football playoff. They don't have to waste time looking
for other qbs. He's not going to the draft. I
just Duke. The way that they run things, both basketball
(02:47):
and football wise, it's really really impressive.
Speaker 1 (02:50):
I wonder if they have the same access to the
war chest that the basketball can they you know, do
they go to the basketball war chest? The ball a
little money? He got a lot, He got a lot. Hey,
we need a little bit of money. All right, let's
get to a folks CFP going down this weekend. It's
time for bating of falling. How well mean doctor Bearshe.
Speaker 4 (03:12):
You can't see my eyes unless my head has been you.
Speaker 1 (03:24):
Sir, show business. I like some alright tonight, Oklahoma Booma
Sooner and the Alabama Crimson tide not the thin red
line that we talked about yesterday during fire or Fizzle.
So the last time that these two teams played, Oklahoma
(03:45):
won twenty three to twenty one. Oklahoma got special teams plays,
they got defensive plays, Eli Bowen's eighty seven yard picksticks,
among other things to help them get the victory. That
was a muff punt and they were out gained by
Alabama four to twelve. But that was a different Alabama
team because the last two games, Tyd Simpson's total QBR
(04:05):
has been a fifty five point one. But Alabama is
eighth in defensive efficiency and they are only fourteenth in
the SECN rushing, so that's something that they're going to
have to get going. Oklahoma's defense, they're second nationally and
success rate allowed, so they are stingy bunch third, and
stuff rate third, and sack rate fourth in three and
(04:25):
out rate, and fifth in red zone touchdown rate allowed.
So this is a stingy, stingy bunch. Oklahoma has reached
the CFP though, despite an offense that's ranked ninety fifth
in yards per play and eighty ninth in points per drive,
and they are sixteenth though in red zone touchdown rates,
so when they do get down there, they do get
it into the end zone. What do I think about
(04:46):
this game? And for you betters out there, Oklahoma is
a one and a half point favorite, I just think
that it is very hard to go into the home
building of these teams. This will be the first of
a playoff game played at Oklahoma House. Doesn't begin to
describe what Alabama's going to see that night. And even
though they are typically in anytime, anyplace type of team
(05:07):
that was under Nick Saban, this is a different ball
game here. Give me Oklahoma soon, nurse boom of soon
to get the victory, and they will be balling. I
can't help it.
Speaker 2 (05:22):
Every time I see the Curse of A I want
to pick them every single time, just how it is.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
Even if this year they haven't.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
Allowed me to benefit from picking them every single time,
they still are good enough to get to the college
Football Playoff, even with maybe some shenanigans going on. If
you ask some people behind the scenes, why is Alabama here? Look,
Oklahoma's defense is very good, Obviously, nobody trusts their offense.
The one thing I'm looking at is ty Simpson He's
not been very good here recently.
Speaker 1 (05:48):
There's no doubt about that.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
The offensive line is good at pass protecting, So can
Ty Simpson actually be free in the pocket with that
very good Oklahoma defense, even if their pass rush isn't
ranked crazy high compared to some of the other teams
in all of college football.
Speaker 1 (06:03):
I think that's what I'm looking at.
Speaker 2 (06:04):
I think Alabama's offense can do enough against this Oklahoma
defense and stick around with a lackluster Oklahoma offense. It
doesn't mean I think Alabama. I think I'm having a
hard time picking against Alabama here. I don't think I'll
have a hard time picking against him the rest of
the way. It's just my lack of belief in the Sooners.
ZH give me Alabama to win. Alabama's balling.
Speaker 3 (06:26):
Yeah, the Oklahoma defense is tremendous, and you're going up
against an offense that has really struggled down the stretch
of the season. I mean Ty Simpson. You know, we've
seen a guy that was at one time looked at
as potentially a Heisman candidate, was looked at as potentially
the first quarterback going off the board in the draft.
He started to struggle, but John Mattire on the other side,
(06:48):
nowhere near the year anybody thought he was going to
have either those numbers offensively not much better. It's going
to be an ugly game. I think it's going to
come down to the end between these two. But I
like Oklahoma to be balling in this one, probably like
I don't know, seventeen fourteen. Like, it's not gonna be
one you're gonna be telling your friends about.
Speaker 1 (07:08):
All right, we start off Saturday early. We get it
cracking Miami in Texas A and m Miami's offense is
tenth and success rate twentieth in red zone touchdown rate.
They got the great malak Ho Tody, one of the
best freshmen, arguably the best freshmen in the country, hasn't
dropped a single ball all season in four thirty one
miss tackles. But this Miami offense not very explosive this season.
(07:31):
Only six point six percent of their snaps game twenty
plus yards. So they have that. But Miami's defense, they
are disruptive. They forced the highest blown block rate in
the country. I wonder what my blown block rate was
when I was at wake Ford. Can we look that
will access? Yeah, Miami has forts twice as many turnovers
(07:51):
as Texas A and M. That run defense is pretty good.
At Texas A and M. A lot of penalties and
they have only a their sixtieth and third down come
version rate. Marcel Reid, their quarterback, has ten interceptions as well.
But this Texas A and M defense, they get it
done as well, seven point six tackles for lost per game.
They've got the lowest third down conversion rate in the country,
(08:12):
and they also have the highest sack rate in the country.
But a lot of people feel like that this Texas
A and M team has not been tested. Told you
that the only team they played inside of the top
five of the SEC was the Texas Longhorns, and they
lost to them by double digits. I'm not gonna make
or I'm not going to waste much time here acc
(08:33):
all day, But not only because of that, because I
believe in the Miami Hurricanes in this roster. I think
they go on the road and the Miami Hurricanes are
balling despite any residents that want to change the name.
As we talked about, Yes, I'm.
Speaker 2 (08:47):
Trying to think of what I have more faith in
Texas A and M's lack of strength of schedule or
Carson Beck's lack of performing in big time games.
Speaker 1 (08:54):
Gonna rip Carson Beck, which one do I have?
Speaker 3 (08:57):
You know, Morsel Reid also not great big time games.
Speaker 1 (09:00):
You know, I was looking at that as well.
Speaker 2 (09:02):
It's interesting because Carson Beck this year has thrown for
let's see, he's thrown for twenty five touchdown passes and
ten interception. You look at Marcel Reid, He's thrown for
twenty five touchdown passes and ten interceptions. Both guys have
very similar stats seventy seven to nine QBR For Marcel
Reid he can run more than Carson Beck Camp. When
(09:23):
a doubt go against Carson Beck, I'm gonna go with
the Texas A and m Yeah.
Speaker 3 (09:28):
This one's tough, man, because initially when I saw the matchup,
I loved it for Miami because I think, you look
at Texas A and m where were the significant wins
on their schedule? How tested was this team actually? But
then you start factoring in that is probably the biggest
advantage of being at home of anybody in the first
(09:48):
round of the college football Playoff. I get it, man,
Austin Stadium is going to be crazy as well, but
they're playing James Madison. They could play that game at
James Madison and they would win. Just a little preview
of what's coming up. So I mean, Kyle Field's gonna
be off the chain. I mean it's gonna be incredibly
loud it for that matchup. I'm gonna trust Carson Back
(10:10):
because I'm stupid, because I don't trust barsoll Read that
much either. I think there will be some turnovers in
this game for both sides. But give me Miami to
be balling because of the veteran experience of one Carson
Back six.
Speaker 1 (10:25):
And m is a three and a half point favorite
in this game, by the way, and we're gonna come back.
We got Panthers Bucks top ten, and we got a
couple other games to go to as well, So we're
gonna work this out during the break. This is the
West and Walker Show. Fish talk going down here on
(10:52):
the Western Walker Show. During the break, Walker just perked
up when I asked him about flying fish. Hey, I'm
telling you guys right now, I told Wes to do this. You.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
I promise this will not disappoint. Go to YouTube, just
search Google whatever flying fish clips where what happens is
these flying fish they jump out of the water to
avoid I think these big Travali's looking to eat them. Okay,
just a big fish looking to eat these flying fish.
But what happens is when they jump out of the
water and glide for ages, these pelicans come in and
(11:21):
they're just waiting for these fish to jump out of
the water. So it is a crazy game of like
Frogger Super Mario. They're playing it with their life on
the line. So go look it up. It is a
wildly entertaining, like three to four minute clip of one
of the nature shows exost Day Xosadide. Look, I'm a
(11:42):
nerd one hundred thousand percent. I am not so much
of a nerd that I know the scientific names of
these fish. I will tell you that right.
Speaker 1 (11:48):
Yeah, you make sure you yeah, please go your line
from the channel Volta Studio CV Injury Law dot com.
That's CV injurylaw dot com. One called that's all the
Carolina's personal injury lawyer. So I'm I think those fish man,
if they would have had a phone, they probably would
have called Chandler Vaulta to be able to help them
out because they were definitely in danger of getting injured.
Speaker 2 (12:08):
These pelicans look It's one thing to go away from
the big fish that are looking to eat me, but
these pelicans go hunt something rather than just taking the
easy way out.
Speaker 1 (12:15):
Please, Chandler Volta, help me, help me, all right? So
as we continue, now, we've got the two matchups left
on ball and a fall in that. You know, many
people feel like are going to be tremendous blowouts, and
they very well could be number eleven two lane versus
number six old Miss from Oxford seventeen and a half
(12:36):
point favorite Old Miss is. But let's get into the
minutia this thing. Okay. The first time that they played,
Jake Redsloth, he was getting to know his guys. It
was it was a new group together. They were trying
to get their chemistry together. He faced the forty percent
pressure rate and he was five or seventeen for fifty
six yards. However, three games later Army pressured redslof a
(12:56):
similar amount. He went twenty two for twenty nine. So
he made the adjustment so that could bolde well for
him flounder. Okay, now listen, Trinadad Tamlis went through the
same thing. Tulane tried to blitz him and he let
them up. Five completions for thirty plus yards to four
different receivers, plus a forty one yard run. He also
torched a lot of other defenses number five total QBR
(13:18):
ranking Old Miss. They've improved their rushing attack and their
success rate on thirty seven or more is pretty dog
on good thirty eight point one percent that's fourth in
the country. And their receiver corp doesn't have a go
to guy, but five different players have caught between thirty
and forty six passes. And so when you look at
this Old Miss defense as well, you know, this team
(13:40):
that explosive offensively, and so they allowed a lot of
points to Georgia as well. And you look at their
efficiency and it's slightly achieved in four of the past
five games. It's gotten a little bit better. And then
they're pretty solid against the pass as well. But Tulane's
defense during their win streak, they had a run that
(14:01):
included games against Memphis North Texas where they blitzed a
lot less. They deplored more defensive backs on average and
played more safe zone coverage. So they sacrificed the little
signs for speed and it has maximized, you know, or
minimized excuse me catastrophes while also increasing disruption levels. So
(14:21):
all that's important in saying that Tulane is a completely
different team as far as how they approach their business
since the last time the Old Mess saw them. We
know that Lane Kiffin is not there leading this crew.
They've got, you know, most of the coaches that they've
had all year long. But this two lane defense, they
have a different way of going about their business defensively
(14:43):
and offensively. Jake Rutslov is handling the pressure a lot
better than he did the last time. However, that does
not change my opinion. But I do think that this
could be a closer game than people expect. Give me
Old Mess to be balling, but I don't think that
they will cover ball. Dang yeah, So I'm gonna agree
with you. I think Old miss balls and I have
been looking at this game as a potential left set,
(15:04):
but I don't think I can do it. I'm probably
gonna have to see it.
Speaker 2 (15:07):
I'm too chicken to pick the upset before it actually
happens in the College Football Playoff to this magnitude, The
thing that worries me is Jake Reetzlof. He does have
a lot of turnover worthy plays, so he puts the
ball in Harm's way. And the other thing is man
his receivers. They have dropped a ton of passes from him,
thirty drop passes. It's the third most in all of
college football. Guys, you gotta hang on to the football
(15:29):
if Retslof delivers an accurate enough pass. And I think
that's just a recipe for too many missed opportunities. And
I can't put my faith in them to pull off
the upset. If you put the ball in Harm's way,
and when you don't, it still might not be a
completion enough against this type of competition. It's just too
much for me to overcome. Ole Miss ends up balling
even without Lane Kiffin. Yeah, I'm gonna go with Ole
(15:52):
Miss as well.
Speaker 3 (15:52):
I appreciate you trying to sell the game, but I
just don't really know if Tulane has enough. I think
their quarterback might be able to give them some hope
because Retzlov was a guy who is very successful at BYU,
but you talked about it. He puts the ball into
harms way pretty often. You've got a receiving core that
cannot catch the football consistently. You've got to erase all
(16:14):
those mistakes that you've had throughout the season and really
play a perfect game in this one. But I do
think it's interesting first game for Pete Golding as the
head coach. How smooth does the transition go? I think
I think ole Miss kind of backdoor covers on this game.
But it's gonna be one of those games where even
though the lead won't be that significant, you'll feel pretty
confident that ole Miss will be balling for most of
(16:36):
the game.
Speaker 1 (16:37):
All Right, so we move on to James Madison and
Orgon and this is the one. Really people think it's
going to be a big time snoozer Oregon right now,
number twelve JMU, number five Oregon. They are a twenty
and a half point favorite, so it's come down slightly.
And when we talk about the weather, the weather gods
could maybe make this a better game than people think
(16:57):
because one of the biggest concerns is flooding in the
Pacific Northwest. Flood watch alert ends at four pm, right
before kickoff. Their matchup is slated to start at four
thirty pm Pacific time. It's expected to clear up in Eugene,
and so we could have the weather playing effect in
this game. Is gonna be cold and rainy, so we
(17:18):
know in Virginia they get a lot of that, so
they should be ready for it. Now, how can JM
you win this game? Well, for one, put the ball
in the hands of running back Wayne Knight. He has
fifteen carries at twenty plus yards and seven of those
have gone for forty plus yards, a man that Flounder
knows well. Alonze Burnett Barnette the third has the lowest
(17:38):
total QBR in the CFP, sixty fourth, but he's got
some big time complaced completions on passes thrown at least
twenty yards downfield, he averages thirty nine point nine yards
per complete that's some big places when they get down
to the red zone, their top twenty in the country.
They convert forty seven percent of their third downs and
they allow opponents just twenty eight percent of those. They're
(18:00):
aggressive against the pass defensively, their third incompletion rate allowed
and their thirteenth in sack rate. So this is a
crew that likes to get after you and they like
to get aggressive. Oregon's offense their thirtieth in the nation.
Inefficiency the defense though one to twenty nine. When we're
talking about reds on efficiency and against Indiana, Wisconsin and Iowa,
(18:20):
Dante more average just four point two yards per drop
back with three touchdowns excuse me, three interceptions and eight sacks.
Oregon's twenty twenty five performance has been heavily dependent on
staying on schedule. Their first in success rate on standard downs,
but sixty fifth on passing downs. They've got a lot
of receiver injuries, but a lot of their top guys
(18:41):
have been practicing this week. And Oregon's defense ranks just
ninety eighth and stuff rate as far as just stopping
them for little to know gain and forty seventh in
sack rate. So JM. You has some omens that are
pointing their way, and I know that they are going
to be keyed up, but I just think Aughtson is
going to be too hard to win in this thing away.
Some of them may help them stay in it early,
(19:01):
but I do think Oregon ends up winning convincingly. The
Ducks ball man, You're right that James Madison has some
things working in their favor. I will say you consider
the weather being a factor. WES Pro Football Focus, James
Madison is graded as the second best running team in
all of college football run block grade top fifteen yards
(19:22):
per Carrie. Right there at top ten, I go to
the running game overall being second in the country for
James Madison, two bad Organs number one. Literally, the only
team that it might benefit more than James Madison is
the team that they're going to be facing. It's a cruel,
cruel world out there for mid majors in the college
football playoff. Oh and Dante Moore is an NFL draft pick.
(19:45):
Give me Oregon to cover slash ball? All right? All right?
Speaker 3 (19:49):
Who am I to doubt James Madison? Right because my
team got beat by them last year? I'm all in
doubting them. This game ain't even gonna be close. I
think Oregon by fifty.
Speaker 1 (20:02):
All right, there we go. So that is your balling
and falling for the college football playoffs. We'll see how
these matchups turn out. And now it is time to
turn the page for Panthers Buccaneers Top ten. And I
got a feeling this is going to be a spicy one.
As the kids say, walcomell, I believe you started off
the last top ten, so I am going to start
(20:23):
it off this time. And I love when that music
comes in. It just gives me chills when I hear it.
Number ten. For me, it's Baker Mayfield, sixth in the
league and big time throws of twenty four, he's got
twenty two passing touchdowns, it's tied for seventh and all
of the NFL. And he's got seven interceptions this season.
He's fifteenth in QBR and we know that he's got
(20:45):
the ac joint. He's had receivers out a lot this
season as well. So I graded him just a little
bit on a curve. But Baker Mayfield number ten as
we start off this time, here's some foreshadowing.
Speaker 2 (20:56):
I grated him on just a little bit more of
a curve, not a lot more, but a little bit
more of a curve than you did. I have Damian
Lewis come in at number ten. I think that's representative
of just how good the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are on
paper at least. Damian lewis very very well rounded overall
and run blocking and pass protecting. I think you could
afford to lose him, as much as I would hate it,
(21:18):
I think you could afford to lose him more than
the next guy on my list at number nine. It
was very close he's a very good football player. Damian
Lewis comes into ten.
Speaker 1 (21:27):
Okay, all right, number nine for me the rook a
Mecca a book He's time for second in the league
in twenty plus yards receptions. He's got thirty three off
his catches have been for first downs. He's got eight
hundred and seventy yards at fifteen yards a clip. And
he's also twelfth in a league in yak So when
he catches the ball, he knows what to do with it.
A Mecca Booker. Number nine.
Speaker 2 (21:47):
Taylor Moten Number nine, Taylor Moten continue to just be
rock solid, one of the best pass protectors in the league,
even though last game he allowed a few more pressures.
I think at the beginning of the year he was
allowing more pressures than what we had become accustomed to.
Speaker 1 (21:59):
Than really hit his stride in the middle.
Speaker 2 (22:01):
Last game he was responsible for a couple of those pressures.
I think there was a BS flag called on him.
Only one penalty last season, five so far this year,
so a little more undisciplined. Also, if you do care
about the run block grade, that's a lot better than
what we've seen from him in the past. Taylor Moten
really good football player. You know, he's one of my favorites.
He sneaks in right inside the top ten at number.
Speaker 1 (22:22):
Nine, number eight. For me, I've got Tetoroa McMillan fifty
nine catches, that's top twenty five in the league, eight
fifty one receiving yards, fourteen point four per clip, and
he's fit in twenty yard receiving plays in forty seven
of his receptions have been for first downs.
Speaker 2 (22:41):
The rook Tetoroa is number eight, number nine and number
eight Spider Man Meme right tackles. Luke Godkey comes in
at number eight. Their numbers are very similar in terms
of pressures allowed. I will say Taylor Moten's pressure allowed
per snap is better than Godkey, but both of these
guys have the pedigree over just being awesome all in
(23:02):
the last three four. A little bit more for TMO
because he's older, but these guys are the Spider Man mean,
when you look at all the grades, all of the stats,
just Luke Godkey was it was a big deal for
Tampa two when he went out. They didn't have a
great answer when he was injured earlier in the season,
and I just feel like he's had a slightly better
year with what he's graded out as and like you've
(23:25):
had some kind of some uncharacteristic games from Timo this
season in past protection God Keys, number.
Speaker 1 (23:31):
Eight, guard Guards Shaman, Damian Lewis, by the way, we're
good to that love Damiens all right, Number seven from me,
Derek Brown. And you know I went back and forth
with how high or low to put him. We know
about the numbers. He's got twenty five stops on a year,
he's got four sacks. But the last six games, if
you care about PFF, as we like to say, he
(23:51):
has not graded above US sixty five. He's got five
games below sixty and one game graded at a forty one.
And he was once PFF number two rated interior defensive lineman.
He is now seventeenth. Now. The reason why I continue
to put him in this top ten, even though the
last month and change he has not been great, is
(24:12):
because of the fact that I think that the knee
is bothering him more than he is letting on and
so I think that that has affected his play. But
when you just want to go on the surface and
if you take all that away and say, hey, if
you're suiting up, then you shouldn't have any excuses to play.
He's not been that great over the last five or
six games.
Speaker 2 (24:29):
Baker Bayfield, number seven, he was an MVP candidate at
the beginning of the year. That he was it's gone
away a little bit, and I think a lot of
that has to do with all of the injuries that
this team has suffered. Specifically offensively. I hate to say
about your boy over there, Flounder, the North Carolina offensive
lineman who stepped in. I'm forgetting his name, Charlie Heck. Yeah,
(24:51):
one of the worst tackles in the league, and they
had to rely on him for a long time at
least just with the amount of pressures. If you look
at him being on an island and that just continuing
to be a turnstile, it's rough. It's a rough life
for Baker Mayfield, constantly running away from him. Without Tristan Wurfs,
who's on the list, Without Luke Godkey, who's on my list,
Without Mike Evans, who's on the list, And without Chris Godwin,
(25:14):
who I'll just go ahead and say miss the list
because of all of the things that he's dealt with.
I'm ma sure, but Godwin is still a big time absence,
and Baker still is trying his best. I think he
does a good job of picking up first downs with
his legs when they need him to, and he's having
to navigate through all of the injuries. It took me
a while to buy in because of what everything I
(25:35):
saw from him in a Carolina Panther uniform, but I
think he's really battled. I respect his game. Baker Mayfield
comes in at seven, all right, number six for me.
The big fella, Vita Veya.
Speaker 1 (25:46):
He's got four sacks, he's twelfth among interior defensive linemen
and quarterback hits, and he's sixth and pressures. He's got
forty seven pressures. That's impressive for a man as big
as Vita Veya. He's got nineteen stops as well, and
as far as his accomplishments. He's a two time Pro
Bowler and also a member of the NFL Top one hundred,
so the players respect him too as well.
Speaker 2 (26:09):
I've got Tykee Smith. I think the safety tandem. People
are saying that it's the best safety tandem in all
of football with what they have in Tyke and the
other guy that might be on this list. Also, what
he's done has been very impressive. Now, I guess the
Tyke injury stuff here. He played against New Orleans atally,
I don't think he's on the injury report. He did
play against New Orleans. We did not see him play
against Atlanta. I got to check that. So he might
(26:31):
be ineligible to be on this list because he didn't
play the last game. And if that's the case, then
I'll tell you who honorable mention is that slides and
moves everybody up. But he is a very good football player.
And I think because those guys play so well off
of one another, even with rookie corners some of the
injuries that they've had on the outside, I think that
they've relied on both anchline Winfield and Tyke Smith to
(26:52):
really help him out on the back end.
Speaker 3 (26:53):
You're clear he played was a full participant in practice
on Wednesday and Thursday. You'd imagine he'd be a full
participant today.
Speaker 1 (27:00):
This is probably the most the biggest differential that we've
had in Top ten as we go through this, which
is good. I mean, you know, variety is the spice
of life. I think we have a value mad at
me though, because you get mad, you get mad at me.
I thought you were gonna give me a hard time
with Derek Brown. I did think that when I put
that down this morning and.
Speaker 2 (27:16):
I say, yeah, this one setup, It's like, do I
just I know what's coming man, Derek Brown, He's gonna
get slided.
Speaker 1 (27:23):
I'm gonna slide Damien Lewis. How am I all right?
Speaker 2 (27:25):
I'm gonna slight the running back position you're gonna I'm
actually it's a little freaky Friday Is with me putting
a quarterback ahead of you. Usually, if a quarterback is anything,
he's number one.
Speaker 1 (27:37):
All right, number five for me. I'm gonna put the
man in his appropriate spot. Damian Lewis, he has been
good all season long. PFF six rated guard. He's the
third rated past blocker, thirteenth in the run. He's only
allowed one sack, two hits and ten pressures. That's fifth
among guards. And yes, as a tackle, yes, I do
think that we are the glamour position on the offensive line.
(27:58):
But I got to give the guard doing a dirty
work down there in the middle, especially when he's got
to block a big old rascal like Vida Veya all
night long. I'm going to give Damian Lewis. His credit,
he's playing at a pro Bowl level. Damn there, all
pro level if you really want to get technical with it.
So I've got him at number no disrespect. He's so massive.
Yeah maybe I am, I'm I is. I love Jamie
(28:20):
Lewis and that's what I love. He's a fire hydrant.
Speaker 2 (28:23):
He's That's one of my favorite things to bring up
when they signed him is that I think he's in
the fifth percentile heighthwise. Just a shorty out there, but
a whitey if you will, wid e wy, just so
we're clear on the pronunciation, all right. Number six is
Tyke Smith, number five sneaking in there. Anton Winfield Junior
and immediately stepping onto the football field has been one
(28:44):
of the best safeties in all of the NFL. Really
free range guy. I think they use him in a
lot of different ways. I really like the queens on
the chess board type of pieces that played the safety position.
I know we had some reverence from Buddha Baker a
while back when we did the cardinal thing. So give
me Antroon Winfil Junior. One of the best defenders in
all of all right.
Speaker 1 (29:02):
So we'll put a pin at it right here. We're
about halfway through and we got a few more spots
left to go. So when we come back, we'll finish
off the Panthers Buccaneers top ten, some great players to
discuss on the other side. Sports Radio ninety two seven

of the West and Walker Show. Hit us up on

Underscore seventy two, at Walker Mail and most importantly at
West End Walker. We come to your live from the

let's get back into it. As we close out the
one o'clock hour, we will finish up Panthers Buccaneers top
(29:49):
ten and what's turning out to be an interesting ten
players from Walker and I. So I will start things
back up at number four. I've got Jamail d and
he is PFF's number three corner. He's nineteenth in lockdown percentage.
He's forced two fumbles, tops among corners. He's only missed
three tackles this season as well, He's got three picks
(30:12):
and only allowed a passer rating of thirty seven point two,
so he's having a really nice year and pretty consistent
as well. He's normally in that top twenty, but in
a lot of years he's also in that top ten
fifteen as well.
Speaker 3 (30:24):
Well.
Speaker 2 (30:25):
The thing about Jammel Dean is he playing with the
injury report. That was my is you.
Speaker 1 (30:29):
Had the injury report up as I was making this
and he was not on it. Okay, so he is
not there.
Speaker 2 (30:35):
Well, they're starting a couple of outside or they're starting
some rookie corners, so I didn't have Jamal Dean here
because of that. But Jamal Dean was on the list.
I did look at I did do the research, so
that was just a mistake, and I didn't forget about him.
I promise people I didn't forget about him this time.
Jamel Dean deserves to be on this list. So if
that were the case, then sorry, Damon Lewis, I guess
(30:56):
you're outside the top ten. I don't like it, but
I would put Jamal Dean you definitely. I don't even
want to because I love Damian Lewis. I think he's
very good.
Speaker 1 (31:04):
I just I don't know. These just are gone.
Speaker 2 (31:07):
I know it's the some positions, man, I just don't
give a lot of respect to you number four. I
have Derek Brown number four. They're noticed.
Speaker 5 (31:14):
There's somebody else at that position that I haven't put yet,
just letting you know. Okay, So it's it's understandable that
I would have Derek Brown here and not in the
top three. But look, man, I just think that he
has to do so much for this defensive line that
I don't know, if you saw the havoc stat where
it's all about splash plays, Panthers are dead last at
having a havoc play only what it like twenty six
(31:35):
percent of their snaps, which is dead last in the league.
If you're double teaming Derek Brown constantly, and you also
have done a nice job at stopping the run overall
as a team this year, Derek Brown accounts for a
lot of that. I know what the grades say. I
just watch it, and I don't feel like Derek Brown
is getting moved off of his spot getting destroyed by
offensive lineman.
Speaker 1 (31:54):
I don't watch that. Did you see on a touchdown
run by the New Orleans Saints, he was, you know, running.
I'm not going to say gingerly on the line, but
he definitely looked like he wasn't trying to mix up
too much because.
Speaker 2 (32:03):
I think that knee I did. I'm trying to give
him credit because I'm saying his knee well, No, I
saw it as well. They ran away from him, and
then Derek Brown is moving on the other side, and
then he was right there at the goal line because they.
Speaker 1 (32:12):
Run away from him, but that was on his side. No,
I don't if I'm not mistaken, that was on his side.
And then they ran to.
Speaker 2 (32:18):
The right Derek Brown at the line of scrimmage Devin
Neil's touchdown.
Speaker 1 (32:22):
Yeah, that's what I saw.
Speaker 2 (32:23):
I'm just saying he's still a fantastic football player.
Speaker 1 (32:27):
That makes him monster. What would this defense do without
Derek Brown? Be as bad as they've been win like
twenty fifth in yards per play a lap against the run?
Like last year?
Speaker 2 (32:37):
They would be like last year, right, I mean, not
as bad, but I'm just saying last year Derek Brown
didn't play and they were historically the burst. I'm just
you know, let me do this with Baldy. Baldi would
agree with me. He knows about football too, all right,
What do you mean, Fitty? Every time number three for me.
Speaker 1 (32:54):
I've got Antoine Winfield here all Pro and twenty twenty
three eighteenth and stops amongst say, he's got thirteen pressures
as well, speaking to that versatility that you speak on,
he has only missed four tackles and he's got two
interceptions this year as well.
Speaker 2 (33:09):
Vidavea is having a better year and actually a better
year than what we're accustomed to from him. And he's
always just been a rock solid to even very very
good defensive tackle. The thing about him is that he's
mixing it up in the pass rush game. I think
run defense you do get a little wonkye in terms
of grades. What do you agree with grades on and
what is more accurate? Right? I think defensive backs are
(33:30):
often inaccurate. I think run defense is also pretty tough.
With that being said, Videvea just plugging holes constantly on
up front where he's got to count for a lot.
Man klash Kanzi not good against the run. The edge
rushers that you have, the small guys like a Hassan
Reddick not good against the run. It's Vidavea, man, He's
got to do it all and he's getting back in
(33:51):
the backfield. I think Veya is having a better overall
year than Derek Brown. Vidavea comes in at number three.
Speaker 1 (33:56):
Sea. I think defensive backs is is it because once
the boss snap, you can tell what covers darians and
what they're supposed to do because there aren't but so
many coverages. No.
Speaker 2 (34:03):
I think because you're trying to quantify what doesn't happen.
Then we try to figure out what is their fault
and what isn't and what their placement and all of
the field, which is why we've had this debate about
how much JC Horn is that fault with lining up
where he did. If he's pressured, then okay. If he's
lining up closer to a lave, well that goes on
a Varo more than it goes on JC Horn.
Speaker 1 (34:22):
I also think for guard appreciation, I think we should
have you go down to the practice facilities, suit up,
and you know you can block Derek Brown for a
few reps, and then let you go a few rounds
with Vida Veya, and then ask Damien lewis you know
how much should I value?
Speaker 2 (34:35):
Can you imagine how much I would be destroyed if
I did that?
Speaker 1 (34:40):
If I went up? What do you think would be
worse do you.
Speaker 2 (34:44):
Yeah, it'd be blocking more so than it would be
trying to protect than it would be trying to go
at Damian Lewis, although Damian Lewis would pancake me every time.
Speaker 1 (34:50):
Yeah, yeah, no, I'm just saying you would do his job,
and then I would go whisper stuff in Vida Vea
and Derek Brown's. It'll tell them how easy you think
to guard position is, so that they would make sure
to put a little extra stain do that.
Speaker 2 (35:05):
And I'll tell Derek Brown that Wes Bryant used to
not like you because you weren't getting enough sacks, and
now you have enough sacks. Now he doesn't like you
because that knees a little bothered. Show him how bad
your knee is. Show Wes Broyan how bad your nie is.
Speaker 1 (35:16):
Right, they hit that breastplate just right with those those
violent hands, all right. Number two for me. Mike Evans
during Week fourteen, in his first action, says, breaking his
collar bone six catches one hundred and thirty two yards.
But he's got eleven consecutive one thousand yards seasons, so
I'm going to pay him his proper respect. I wanted
to put him number one but because you know the
(35:38):
guy I have at number one, I feel like it's
worthy of being there. And also Mike Evans, you know,
he's had a bit of a full sar, so I
had to give him a little.
Speaker 2 (35:44):
Bit of a de marriage. Got to be a guard.
With all that love you have for guards.
Speaker 1 (35:48):
Right now, I do. I love all my offensive linemen.
Speaker 3 (35:50):
Man.
Speaker 1 (35:50):
Okay, we're all underappreciated, but the tacklers do get the
chip and dip ads more than anybody else.
Speaker 2 (35:57):
Tie goes to the Hall of Famer. Tristan Worf's is
number two. Okay, could have gone either way. I'm not
gonna get mad at you. Tristan Worf's is number two.
He is an excellent football player, one of the crazier
athletes in all of the NFL. Doesn't matter if it's
right tackle or left tackle. When he's out, they are
really really hurting Tristan Worf's. What else can you say?
(36:19):
He'll be in Hall of Famer as long as he
stays on the field as much as he possibly can.
Speaker 1 (36:23):
Tristan Worf's number two. Yeah, he's my number one. Like
I said, he three time All Pro, four time Pro bowler.
This season, he's only allowed two sacks, four hits, and
twenty one pressures. He is the number two rated tackle
in all of Pro football. According to PFL, Mike Evans
is number one.
Speaker 2 (36:39):
It'd be interesting to see how I would have graded
it if I felt like the injuries were really hurting
him in last week's game. But all he did was
show up in the game immediately upon returning from his injury.
It doesn't matter if people are covering him. It doesn't
matter if people are pretty sticky. He's going to go
up and he's going to catch the football over you
because he is a constant one thousand yards even for
(37:01):
somebody that wants Tampa to lose quite frequently. I kind
of like seeing Mike have that clean Pro Football reference
page that he's not going to have this year because
of the injuries.
Speaker 1 (37:11):
Yeah, Mike Evans number one. Uh So, to recap for
you my top ten, Baker Mayfield at ten and make
a book at nine, tele Roy McMillan eight, Derek Brown seven,
Vi to Vea six, Damian Lewis five, Jamel Dean four,
Antoine Winfield Junior three, Mike Evans two, and Tristan Worf's
number one.
Speaker 2 (37:29):
Sorry, Damian Lewis, I love you, But I got Taylor
to Moten at number ten, Luke Godkey at number nine,
Baker Mayfield at number eight, I have Tykee Smith at
number seven. I have Jamel d number six, Antoine Winfield
number five, Derek Brown four, VI Toavea three, Tristan Worf's two,
Mike Evans number one.
Speaker 1 (37:46):
All right, So yeah, man, So that is our top
ten for this week, one of our more differentiating top
tens between the two of us. Did you have any Godkey?
Speaker 4 (37:55):
For me?
Speaker 1 (37:56):
Was the biggest one that I had trouble leaving now
as well. And I originally, you know, because sometimes when
we do this, I go right off the top of
the dominant. I just kind of put down a ten
or twelve players that I think I did have Bryce
youngon at first, but then he ended up getting eliminated
after I went back through and looked at some of
the players and stuff like that. But was there anybody
that you really fought with that you kept out?
Speaker 2 (38:19):
Well, Damien Lewis, he's a top ten worthy player. I
just Tampa Bay's got good players, so that's why he's out.
Uh t Mac, I think he matters and he's not
here neither one.
Speaker 1 (38:29):
And I didn't even pay attention today. You left Tammack out.
Good players, man, I offensive line more than you do.
I put god Key here and I put at alignment.
I know well you think about that Flannel leaving out
Ted Roy McMillan. I'm shocked by that. You wouldn't have
a book in either, did you? I did not. I'm objective, man,
I love team at that completely.
Speaker 3 (38:51):
Would have been on this list.
Speaker 1 (38:52):
T that's right.
Speaker 2 (38:54):
Travion Henderson would have been on, especially after those two
games over one hundred, that's right now. Yeah, I don't
need to pay attention to the first eight weeks, but
the last few weeks, Trevon Henderson would be there. Yeah,
t Ma mac rico'doddell not being on the list, yeah,
dout because I mean you slow down so much?
Speaker 1 (39:11):
Yeah? Is he the guy that the Panthas need to
really break out and have a big game? Because I
mean it feels like Panther fans have been waiting on
him to continue to play well. Because I gotta say,
Panther fans, I got to call y'all out now. When
Tuba Hubb was going through his struggles, y'all wanted him
out of town. You talk about trading him and all
that type of stuff, But now Rico Dade's slowed down
(39:32):
and I'm not hearing that same energy.
Speaker 2 (39:34):
I don't care where it comes from Cuba and Rico.
I don't think Rico needs to have the great game.
I just think both of them need to provide some production.
It just doesn't matter to me. I love a split
back system. I love keeping fresh bodies in there toting
the rock. So as long as they're good at running
the football, which I think they will be, then that's
the only thing that matters to me. I don't care
who's getting all.
Speaker 1 (39:53):
Right, Wall says on the FANDO text on sounds like
the Bucks should be winning going away based off the
top ten. So we'll talk about it little bit of
that on the other side. But we got some college
