Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're listening to the West and Walker Show. You know
what that sounds like? To me? What does it sound like?
Speaker 2 (00:04):
It's West sounds like any artists I did and want
to be artists want to stay and start. Don't have
to worry about the executive producer being all in the videos,
all in the records, dancing come to death Row. That's
what that sounds like to me. And Walker, I take
it by your blank expression. You might not be very
familiar with that quote.
Speaker 1 (00:22):
Wes. I'm not gonna lie to you. I have no
clue what you're talking about. It's one of the most
famous in your hip hop.
Speaker 3 (00:29):

TJ Expo. Let's do it. And you're not gonna do
your noise either. Two two two.
Speaker 4 (01:19):
Production.
Speaker 1 (01:20):
All right, let's get back into it.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
Man, keep that fan do a text line going seven
on four five, seven ninety six ten. We are picking
the schedule for the Charlotte forty nine ers. So far,
we skipped in case you're just tuning in skip the
app State game.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
We're gonna save that for last.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
And we've got Chris Reynolds coming up in the next
segment that will be hanging out with us for the
rest of the hour, former Charlotte quarterback. So far, we've
picked North Carolina that was a universal l across the board,
and then we had a universal w across the board
with Monmo. So let's get into it. Next up September
eighteenth versus Rice. Rice was four and eight last year.
(02:00):
Starters are back on offense. They have switched though to
an option attack. Only Army and Navy run that same
style of offense, and four starters return on defense. Now,
this could be a little bit of a tricky game.
For Charlotte as well, even though they went four and
eight last year. I know from experience we played the
Service academies when I was at wake Forest. When you
(02:20):
play against the option, you need a little bit of
time to prepare, and they're not gonna have a lot
of it. To do that, you have to be very disciplined.
Word to my man, Elma Food, you have to be
vaiy veil we disciplined when you play against the option, okay,
because one false move and you're gonna be looking at
the back of somebody's jersey. With all that said, I'm
gonna give Charlotte the benefit of the doubt. I think
(02:42):
coach Alvin can coach them up. We know that they
had a big time defense last year at Ohio.
Speaker 1 (02:47):
Well that transfer we don't know.
Speaker 2 (02:49):
But I'm gonna give them the benefit of the doubt
and say that they will be able to be disciplined
enough to get the stops that they need to take
care of.
Speaker 1 (02:56):
Rice.
Speaker 3 (02:57):
Yeah, I like some of the write ups here about
the offense that you'll have with the OPWLS. It's one
of the rite ups on ESPN is what you have
in Scott Abel running the offense a shotgun spread option
that looks absolutely almost nothing like what you usually see
at the FBS level. It's so different, and so you
are going to have your work cut out for you
and preparing for something like that. The good news is
(03:20):
Rice is just going through so much new right now, and.
Speaker 1 (03:24):
That's right.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
And I think early on, if both of these coaches
are going to be good, I think you have high
hopes for both of these guys. I do think with
I think we have some talent with Charlotte on the
defensive side. We've talked about it, especially at that linebacking corps,
and I think you have some talent on the back end.
It's the defensive line that's going to be the real
wild card. I think Charlotte ends up getting the victory
here too, So I have them losing to North Carolina,
(03:48):
but then answering that loss with a couple of victories
both at home by the way, Monmouth and Rice.
Speaker 5 (03:53):
It's gonna take Rice some time, I think, to get
used to the system that they're running, too. I don't
think it's going to be nearly as flawless as you
see when you play.
Speaker 4 (04:01):
The Service academies.
Speaker 5 (04:02):
So I think Charlotte ends up getting the win, especially
because they're at home.
Speaker 4 (04:05):
I think their defense does enough gets to win.
Speaker 1 (04:07):
All right. Next up they have South Florida.
Speaker 2 (04:12):
Okay, oh boy, and we saw last night them put
the beats. They put foots on Boise State, a college
football playoff squad. They absolutely dominated them last night.
Speaker 1 (04:26):
They beat them.
Speaker 2 (04:27):
Quarterback Byron Brown, he looked like a star after two
hundred and fifty plus yards of total offense, two rushing scores.
They helped Boise State to four point four yards per
play in six of seventeen on third down. I say
that to say if South Florida's gonna continue through the
rest of the season playing like this, maybe they're not
beaten top twenty five teams every single week, but they
(04:50):
are a rock solid bowl team that's gonna be a
pest for a lot of teams because they have to
play the Kings as well. Give me South Florida to
take the victory over to Charlotte forty nine.
Speaker 3 (05:00):
Of course, in alvins first year, we're gonna have to
have South Florida get their first season with over seven
victories since twenty seventeen. It looks like that's kind of
the program we're looking at. Because if you look at
their win totals from twenty eighteen on, it was seven
four one two one.
Speaker 1 (05:16):
They were real bad.
Speaker 3 (05:17):
For a very long time, and they've answered with two
seven and six seasons. It looks like they're poised to
be better than that with that kind of rompin they
just put on Boise State. Look, this is gonna be
on the road too. You had your two victories against
Monmouth and Rice. I think this one's probably gonna be
an l and Tim Albins first true road game that
you're gonna experience this season.
Speaker 5 (05:37):
You saw how tough it was for Boise State to
go there last night. It's gonna be even tougher. I
think to go there by mid season because I think
they're gonna be in a pretty good form by that point.
Byron Brown, one of the most underrated quarterbacks in the
entire country. I think Charlotte goes in there, puts up
a fight, But I do think that South Florida gets
a pretty significant win.
Speaker 3 (05:56):
Well, especially you mentioned the crowd Friday night game ESPN.
Two people are gonna be ready, even if it's only
quote unquote Charlotte. It's not gonna be Boise State, but
crowd's gonna be ready.
Speaker 1 (06:07):
To cheer, all right.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
Next up, man, the tough ones keep on coming, because
then you are at Army. You can salute, you can
do whatever you need to do, but you're going up
against some dogs. Okay, twelve and two last season, nine
starters are back, Brice and Daily. The legend is gone,
but Dwayne Coleman is the new quarterback for them.
Speaker 1 (06:25):
They had the nation's best offensive line.
Speaker 2 (06:27):
They won the Joe Moore Award last year, but they
did lose three guys off of that. They held opponents
to fifteen and a half points per game last year
and ninety six yards below their average the season ago.
They've got five guys back off of that defense. Army
is legit, no joke, and I think that they take
care of business against the Charlotte forty nine ers. As
(06:48):
soon as my man Chris Reynolds is getting ready to
here walking in, he's good and early. That's a quarterback
right there. Okay, that's the leaders in yere early, first
guy in, last kid to leave. He probably won't like
what we're saying, but I got Army beating down to Charlotte.
Speaker 1 (07:04):
Oh no, don't, why'd you say beat down. I mean,
you know, man, they play defense.
Speaker 3 (07:10):
There is some new with him too, there is some
new I think. I think they've earned the benefit of
the doubt. Yeah, like Army I did have when we
were going through ECU Team week. I did have ECU
upsetting Army. I did think that was gonna happen because
of some of the new that they got going on.
I don't think Charlotte right now, even at that point
in the season. Remember, this is gonna be a second
road game in a row for Charlotte and Army's gonna
(07:30):
be playing at home.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
I've got the Knights winning.
Speaker 4 (07:33):
Yeah, I just I love Jeff Bunkin so much.
Speaker 5 (07:35):
What he's done at Army to turn them into a
consistent winner is amazing. I think that even though they
are losing as much as they do on the offensive line,
and they lose their starting quarterback who was a legend,
I still think they're gonna be good enough by that
time to beat Charlotte. Maybe it's a little bit closer
than some people think, but yeah, give me Army all right.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
Next up, October eighteenth versus Temple. Now, Temple was three
and nine last year. They got a veteran offense, seven
starters return. They have a new offensive coordinator in Montana
State's Tyler Walker, and they also have a new defensive coordinator,
which kind of happens when you go three and nine.
New defensive coordinator and former Rice DC Bryan Smith. They've
(08:15):
only got three starters back over there. I think Charlotte
will kind of get things back together and they get
a victory and take down Temple.
Speaker 1 (08:23):
Yeah, I agree with you.
Speaker 3 (08:24):
I mean the two games in conference that you're hoping
they take care of because Charlotte has.
Speaker 1 (08:30):
A shot to be the favorite.
Speaker 3 (08:32):
I don't think they will based on how Vegas is
gonna evaluate this, but Temple and Rice are the two
games here, not speaking of mon Myth. I think Rice
and Temple are the two games in conference that you
have a shot there. So I do think that you
have to take care of business against Temple. This one
is going to be a home game. I think that
does matter because if you start to be competitive. We
saw last year Charlotte fans are going to show up.
(08:54):
Give me the win over the album.
Speaker 5 (08:55):
Yeah, wasn't a big fan of Temple when we were
talking about them playing East Carolina. I just that program.
You know, you gotta have a special coach to be
able to win there. I just don't feel like they
do right now. At home, Charlotte gets a victim.
Speaker 1 (09:07):
All right, there you go.
Speaker 2 (09:08):
Next up, North Texas comes a knocking. They were six
and seven last year. Reyes Poppenbarger comes over from Albany
at quarterback to help after he had a pretty productive
career there.
Speaker 1 (09:21):
The run game should be better.
Speaker 2 (09:23):
Skyle Cassidy is at defensive coordinator and he brings seven
guys over from Sam Houston to go with nine returning
starters from a defense that gave up thirty four points
per game. So not a lot of resistance you're gonna
get from North Texas. I'm gonna get a forty nine
is the benefit of the doubt. I think that they
will love take out North Texas at home and get
(09:43):
on a little bit.
Speaker 1 (09:44):
Of a streak. Now I feel bad, Well, consecutive wins.
Speaker 3 (09:48):
K can I have them losing a game that you
don't because now.
Speaker 4 (09:53):
It's gonna get it's gonna get worse.
Speaker 1 (09:55):
I mean, this was a ball game last year, So
I'm not super confident in.
Speaker 4 (09:58):
I think they're gonna win this game.
Speaker 5 (10:00):
I think at home, this is what this is where
Alvin settles in there.
Speaker 4 (10:04):
I think Charlotte wins this game.
Speaker 3 (10:05):
I'm just gonna tell you right now, I'm throwing all
my previous analysis out the window. I'm not gonna be
here since I'm not doing every gain I'm not doing.
I'm just telling you right now, Charlotte wins clean sweep.
Speaker 1 (10:15):
Okay, where you go? All right?
Speaker 2 (10:17):
All right, all right, So now East Carolina they gotta
go on the road to the boring place of Greenville.
Speaker 1 (10:24):
Sorry, if you're from me, you don't think it lives
up to the g Vegas hype. Yeah, nah, man, you
know that was one of the reasons I didn't really.
Speaker 4 (10:31):
Tanser apparently offended.
Speaker 5 (10:32):
The Morning Show told me they're offended that they're being
talked about as heavy drinkers.
Speaker 4 (10:36):
I was like, I thought that was a badge of honor.
Speaker 1 (10:38):
Free rise. What happened East Carolina?
Speaker 2 (10:40):
They looked at abysmal at times versus NC State last night.
They only rushed for thirty yards, but kateen Howiser did
pass for three sixty six.
Speaker 1 (10:48):
They gave up four.
Speaker 2 (10:48):
To twenty three to the pack, lost twenty four to seventeen.
We talked about that, but I do think that East
Carolina this will be a very interesting game because it's
Flounder said, I feel like that tim out and at
this point we'll start to have settled in. Maybe they
have the quarterback situation figured out. Regardless of the fact
I think East Carolina is strong enough to take out.
Speaker 1 (11:08):
Charlotte, I'm not having Charlotte lose to easy, Okay.
Speaker 3 (11:11):
I mean, look even the North Texas stuff and call
Shenanigan's on me with that because I did have the
main Green winning at first, and then you guys convinced
me with your arguments that they're gonna win. Okay, just
let me see it before I just go ahead and say,
he see, you got destroyed by Charlotte last year.
Speaker 1 (11:26):
Charlotte beat him the previous season.
Speaker 3 (11:28):
I'm just I'm gonna need to see you get the
victory over Charlotte before I hand over a victory to
the Pirates. Plus, you know that that's the team I
probably hate the most in terms of Charlotte rivals.
Speaker 5 (11:38):
I think I went with ECU when we were going
through their schedule prediction. I think I'm gonna stick with
that because I just love the way that Howser looked
last night. I think he's the real deal at quarterback.
I think he's gonna be able to carry that ECU offense.
I think they're gonna put up points in this game,
and by by this time of the year, I think
they're gonna be one of the better offenses in the
American I think it's close. I think Charlotte Horse because
(12:00):
the rivalry is gonna make it close. Alvin will have
his guys in good form, but I think ECU edges
them out.
Speaker 1 (12:06):
All right.
Speaker 2 (12:06):
November eighth, or excuse me, November fifteenth, they will take
on Texas San Antonio the road run meet me. Okay,
you guys are a couple of very nice that's a
couple of Warner Brothers references I put in here, so
I guess you can tell that I still like watching
the little loony Towns every now and again. Class I
do get some good chuckles out of them, all right.
So Texas San Antonio last year finished seven and six.
(12:28):
Eight guys are back. On offense. They did average thirty
three and they took care of football pretty good. They
were plus one and turnover ratio. But the defense did
give up thirty points per game and only two starters
are back. They lost the bulk of their front seven. However,
Texas San Antonio, they've been a little consistent. When you
talk about in the conference, that one of the teams
that's always in the mix.
Speaker 1 (12:49):
So I think that they take care of the Charlotte
forty nine. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (12:52):
So this is the stretch for Charlotte, like this is brutal.
You look at the last three games, just to give
you a preview of what's gonna happen. We have San Antonio,
we have Georgia, and we have Tulane.
Speaker 2 (13:03):
That's who the last one. Boy, I can't wait to
see how we're divided. A table divided, I mean too
lane to at the end. But yeah, I hear what
you're saying there. I think Texas San Antonio is gonna
be too good this year. You're talking about a team
that is finished, that is picked to finish top three
in the conference. Tulane is picked to finish first, Memphis second,
who is not on Charlotte's schedule. But I think tex
(13:25):
San Antonio gonna be too good.
Speaker 5 (13:27):
Yeah, I think they'll be a little too good as well.
Love Owen McCown. I think that certainly is one of
the guys that's gonna be amongst the top players in
the conference this year.
Speaker 4 (13:36):
I think it's probably just a little bit too much.
Speaker 5 (13:38):
I think this is going to be a really close
game because again, I think by this time you'll start
to feel that album effect.
Speaker 4 (13:44):
But I think it's just a little too much.
Speaker 2 (13:46):
All right, I mean, November twenty second, you take that
trip down and play between the hedges. Chris Reynolds my
man to my left. He can't come back and play
in this game. Okay, I'm sure they would love to
have him, but he can't play in this one, all
right there.
Speaker 1 (14:00):
Georgia this year, they.
Speaker 2 (14:01):
Lost Carson Beck, their top two wide receivers and four
starting offensive lineman. Four draft choices off of that defense,
but six are back for them, and they gave up
twenty one a game last year.
Speaker 1 (14:12):
I mean, it's the Georgia Bulldogs.
Speaker 2 (14:14):
They have puppies that are sitting there waiting and they're
eating the you know, whatever type of food is they
eating the good stuff that we see on those commercials
that have cost you probably about sixty seventy dollars a bag.
Speaker 1 (14:24):
Georgia Bulldogs real big at the crib.
Speaker 3 (14:28):
Yeah, I'm hoping we can create some history down there.
I know a bunch of people, a bunch of Niners
fans that are gonna make that trip down to Athens
just in case something crazy happens.
Speaker 2 (14:37):
Hey, close game against Tennessee, puts it turning on the
TV and it's like twenty four seventeen quarter Georgia Natty.
Speaker 3 (14:46):
I would lose my mind. Oh I got Georgia. I
got Georgia winning.
Speaker 5 (14:49):
We have seen them slow play some games out of
the gate. When they play this game, but I mean,
I don't know what is it going to be like
third quarter, Maybe it's like twenty four to seven and
you're like, oh, you never know.
Speaker 1 (15:00):
But like I said, those d tackles in the middle,
go yeah, I.
Speaker 5 (15:03):
Think that defense is gonna dominate Charlotte up front.
Speaker 4 (15:07):
I just yeah, I can't.
Speaker 1 (15:08):
I can't.
Speaker 2 (15:09):
I can't Charlotte georgiansup Lineman man two seventy. That's lighting
the keister, buddy, it's gonna be you wanna be having
a handle some three thirty three forty fives, you know
what I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (15:18):
That's gonna be a lot to deal with.
Speaker 2 (15:20):
And they closed the season at Tulane, so they got
a couple of tough road matchups to close the year.
Tulane is expected to be an AAC contender. They lost
Darien Mensa start running back Mkay Hughes and their top
five receivers, UH three starters are back on defense, and
they added eight transfers in what was one of the
aac's best defensive units. This is gonna be another tough one,
(15:41):
especially coming off a physical week against Georgia. I'm sure
Georgia will take that pound of flesh from the roster.
Guy's gonna be a little beat up, and I think
Tulane continues that Charlotte ends with a four game losing streak.
Speaker 1 (15:54):
For me, man, it's tough.
Speaker 3 (15:55):
I got him on a losing streak as well, except
it's just a three game losing streak with that victory
against ECU that I have. But yeah, tu Lane, I
mean they've just done so well through the transfer portal,
you know, replacing some of the talented guys that they
did lose through the portal as well. So I do
think two Lane's gonna end up with a victory two
games on the road for Charlotte as well to finish
the season. Three game losing streak for me, including two lane.
Speaker 5 (16:16):
What's interesting about this team is they did bring in
Jake Retzlaw from BYU He. I believe it's just a
guy that's walking on there. Problem is is he might
not be the starting quarterbacks. So that's gonna be really interesting.
Now by this point in the season, I believe he
probably will be the starter.
Speaker 4 (16:31):
They'll be competing to win the AAC.
Speaker 5 (16:33):
So the fact that it's on the road, I think
TWU lane probably gets it done, and probably pretty convincingly.
Speaker 2 (16:39):
All Right, So next up, we're gonna take up break.
We got Chris Renolds. He's waiting, biting at the you know,
he is chomping at the bit to tell us how
bad odd takes were. So we're gonna talk to him
next about everything. Charlotte forty nine and what does he
think about our schedule?
Speaker 1 (16:54):
Pick him?
Speaker 2 (16:54):
What does he think about the game This evening on
Sports Ready on ninety two seven w FNZ.
Speaker 1 (17:08):
Welcome back, folks.
Speaker 2 (17:09):
This is the West and Walker Show Sports Radio ninety
two seven WFNZ, and we now have joining us in
the studio.
Speaker 1 (17:17):
We are at the WFNZ.
Speaker 2 (17:18):
Doghouse powered by Jack Daniels, and we have with us
Charlotte legend. Chris Reynolds, former Charlotte QB great man, here
to take in this big time matchup between app State
and Charlotte, Here to talk to us about all things
forty nine ers. How does he think everything is gonna
go down? And also, don't forget man his CRQB development. Man,
(17:40):
he's breeding these young quarterbacks of the future. Maybe he
will breathe the next great Charlotte quarterback.
Speaker 1 (17:46):
Who knows? But Chris, how's it going? Man? Fellas? It
feels good to be back with the boys talking ball?
All right?
Speaker 3 (17:51):
Man, we are so high off of football right now,
Like you could feel our energy the whole first hour
watching and State ECU drunk football like straight injected into
my veins. I'm ready for it. I see you got
your Charlotte gear now on as well. Can't wait for
today's game.
Speaker 1 (18:08):
And I mean, could he have said that any better?
Speaker 2 (18:11):
Okay, he just sounds like a guy that's ready to
talk to some ball and we are too, man. So
first of all, I mean, what are your thoughts about
this game? And we'll get to your prediction later, we'll
all predict together, But what are your.
Speaker 1 (18:22):
Thoughts on this game? Man?
Speaker 2 (18:24):
How excited are you are you very optimistic on what
this Shaw the forty nine ers team can bring.
Speaker 6 (18:29):
I'm amped, man. First of all, I really like what
coach Alvin's doing. It seems like he's just doing things
the right way. You know, he's getting good people in
the building, driving towards a common goal.
Speaker 1 (18:38):
It's gonna be interesting today. I don't know.
Speaker 6 (18:40):
There's a bunch of turnover on both sides, a bunch
of new faces, a bunch of transfers, and two new
coaches and two new cultures. Because coach Loggins, right, he's
not really an app State guy. They kind of went
out of their bubble a little bit like the day
with drinkuits. So I'm to see how that's gonna turn out.
I know he's got some guys who have been an
app on the coaching staff, so see they can still
install that hard nosed culture app and see what we
can do is you know, building our culture and building
(19:01):
that camaraderie with you guys.
Speaker 2 (19:03):
All right, you can follow him on X at Chris
Reynolds Underscore three and as I said, man, he's out
here training these quarterbacks.
Speaker 1 (19:09):
See our QB development.
Speaker 6 (19:11):
Man.
Speaker 2 (19:12):
Now with Tom House Sports, you want to explain a
little bit of that man how they came to be.
Speaker 1 (19:16):
It's been great man.
Speaker 6 (19:17):
So when I was at Charlotte and I was training,
I trained with Tom house Is. I also trained with
Anthony Boone who played at Duke and we're boys.
Speaker 1 (19:25):
We do things together now.
Speaker 6 (19:26):
But I'm under Tomhouse Sports and Tom House is based
out of San Diego, and you can't he wouldn't want
to be claimed as a quarterback coach.
Speaker 1 (19:33):
Want throwing. He's a throwing coach. And he started with
Nolan Ryan, Greg Maddox, all those guys.
Speaker 6 (19:46):
This is House way, but coach House he h Nolan Ryan,
all those guys. And then when Drew Brees whenever he
was doing that shoulder injury when he was with Miami
and he was or not with Miami, when he was
with San Diego and he was looking to join the Dolphins,
he failed as physical with Nick Saban there, so he'say, okay,
I got to figure something out with my shoulder. Coach
House is known for how can you throw it more velocity?
(20:07):
Can't throw it farther and with less strain on my shoulder,
went out there Sanio and next thing you know, he
breeds the Saints of Drew Brees, the Saints Drew Brees.
So then Tom Brady's like, hey, hey, man, who you've
been working with? The Mahomes gets a hold of them, Hey,
who've been working with? Next thing, you know, he's training
all thirty two starts in the NFL. And I was
grateful enough to get connected. And I was out there
in San Diego for about three weeks each year. But
(20:28):
now after I got done playing in Canada, he coach like,
I love love your work. There's nobody out here on
the East Coast with I mean specifying quarterback. There's a
bunch of pitching coaches under his name, but nobody on quarterback.
He goes, yeah, man, go for it. So it's been
great serio computervelopment partner with Tom House Sports.
Speaker 1 (20:44):
He's the best of the best. Man.
Speaker 6 (20:45):
He's got to pack it about one hundred pages long
of all the scientific data that he's developed.
Speaker 1 (20:49):
Man.
Speaker 2 (20:49):
All right, So if you guys are listening out there,
you got a kid that you want to turn into
a quarterback, man, this is the guy to send them to.
All right, let's get down to it, man. Charlotte forty
nine is what did you think about how their quarterbacks
situation turned out was, Uh, did it go the way
that you thought it was going to.
Speaker 1 (21:05):
I didn't know exactly I was going to go down.
Speaker 6 (21:06):
I mean, I think it depends on what kind of
identity they wanted to do on offense with a coach fish,
but you know, with going with Connor, I think you
going with a more versatile type one. He can get
things done with his legs as well. They can make
something happen. I know, Grayson's a dang good thrower as well,
and he can make things happen. Watching their tape, you
can tell her two different players. It goes to show
they will type out identity coach Fisch once maybe more
(21:28):
Reid option, you know, RPO type stuff. You never know
what could happen though, two quarterbacks just because they claim
a starter, you never know what could happen in the season.
And also Zach Wilke, you know he's another one too,
Juco guy, big arm. He's kind of I feel like
he's more similar he can run a little bit, but
similar to Loft this as well. Yeah, so we'll see,
maybe we get some explosives tonight.
Speaker 3 (21:45):
Yeah, you said you were watching some film on Ohio.
I guess last year with Tim Alboin or just what
they I was watching.
Speaker 6 (21:50):
I was watching Grayson at Duke, and I was watching
Connor Carolina and Zach at Southern Miss.
Speaker 3 (21:54):
All right, so talk to us a little bit about
what they do well in Maybe with a Tim albin
offense might look like what he's going to bring to
the table.
Speaker 1 (22:02):
Just saying, I mean, you look at Ohio last year.
I forgot what the quarterbacks. I think it was the Navarro.
Speaker 6 (22:07):
Yeah that's park Parker Nevrou and he seems like somebody
who's a dual threat guy. I think he like he
multiple games rushing for over one hundred yards a bunch
of games.
Speaker 3 (22:15):
Like, well, you know what that reminds me of, Chris
is when we tapped into that with you, we started winning.
Yeah there's what what what Hey, We'll just have Chris
Reynolds run for ninety yards every single game and we'll
just start winning.
Speaker 1 (22:26):
Like That's what it reminds me of.
Speaker 6 (22:27):
So it goes I mean, I guess that you know,
that's what they're trying to morph it into. That's why
you go with Connor. Watching tape, you can see with
Grayson when he's at Duke. You can see at the
Lion of Scream. He's able to manage a lot identifying pressure,
finding his matchups, giving one on one shots. Not as
much of a runner, you know, can't escaped as well
obviously as Connor. I remember him at playing against Charlotte
last year. I can't go into detail about what exactly
(22:47):
it looked like. I remember him completing some deep balls
right one on one play action shots maybe read option
with the tight end arcing for extra numbers. So it
seems like that's the that's the way coach Fitch is
trying to go, I think with Sean Brown on the
outside giving your one on one shots, and then he
got the guy in the slot forgot what his name
was from Vanderbilt, he can get somebody get a little
shifty in there as well.
Speaker 3 (23:07):
So, just knowing what you know about Tim out and
and I know you talked about how much you are
a believer in what he's preaching. What are some specifics
as to what you'd like about Tim the guy as
the head coach, and also maybe some of the schematics
that you enjoy.
Speaker 1 (23:19):
Well.
Speaker 6 (23:20):
First of all, when he got hired, I was pretty
eager to get back into building. When he shake his hand.
First day's a hey, coach, I know you running around.
He goes, yep, you have a run around and said, i'
Chris Reynolds. Get him in tutake Chris Reynolds. We need
to sit down. We need to sit down. That was
really cool because you know, like I'm not talking about myself,
but all the other guys that spend a lot of
time in that building six years. You know, yes, you
(23:40):
do your practice, your weight room stuff. But then like
guys like me and a Victor Tuctor and the Ashing
Gifts a Hunter, Kelly's like, we're in there from we
get down a practice, you do your thing, and I'm
in there from two to eight pm on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday,
trying to do extra to build this program, to help
build this program and get her keep hitting those milestones.
And to see him kind of recognize that, and then
I see him in Spring Valley, Hey man, like, I
(24:00):
want you to know you guys are always welcome here,
Like you guys help build this. This is your home
and it always will be. And that just means a lot.
He kind of goes to show what he's trying to
insul in his players as well.
Speaker 1 (24:09):
Well, and that matters.
Speaker 3 (24:10):
And you can speak to this too as a former
college football player, Wes. He just seems to get it
on that front. And that's what college football is. It's
all about local rivalries. It's all about being as local
as you possibly can. And we want to celebrate some
of the players that have been successful in this program before.
And look, with Biff Pogi being gone, it is what
it is. The players love playing for him. I got
(24:30):
good things to say about Biff Pogy. That was not
one of his strong suits. Like just straight up, that's
what it was. That's what you would hear around the
program is that it's not like he was closing the
door on everybody. He just wasn't nearly as welcoming. I
don't know if you had the big welcome mat for
everybody to roll in there. And I know we talked
about it a little bit, not to throw you under
the bus, but last year, it just nobody was reaching
(24:51):
out to you like that, right, And Tim Alben seems
to understand and appreciation for alumni and appreciation for embracing
how much people do care about this program. And I
know that's what happens at wake for us too. I
know you've talked about. Yeah, it is nice when people
want to come back and say you've had some success.
I want to make sure you're a part of the
now just like you were in the past.
Speaker 1 (25:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (25:12):
And coach Dickett he's really starting to do that as well,
much more so than kind of coach Clawson did.
Speaker 1 (25:17):
Yeah, but he is starting to do that.
Speaker 2 (25:19):
So, man, I definitely know how you feel that that
is exciting to be able to do that. Now, have
you watched any app tape, Like, have you started breaking
down this matchup any because I know cats like you. Man,
you're a film junk. Yes, I know you're going to
start trying to go and get any little bit of
entail that you can get.
Speaker 1 (25:34):
What I do know is there's as so many transfers.
Speaker 6 (25:36):
I was looking at their depth chart, like sophomore transfer,
junior transfer, senior transfer. I know the defensive coordinator is back,
and I'm pretty sure.
Speaker 1 (25:43):
I played against them.
Speaker 6 (25:44):
From my understanding, I could see them getting into an
odd front, which is a nose, you know, two tackles
and a joker. Yeah, two back of box and really
trying to cram everything inside, don't let you get outside stretch.
Speaker 1 (25:54):
They won't let you stretch your perimeter.
Speaker 6 (25:56):
They like to trust your dbs because I know that
when I was there, they had really good ones.
Speaker 1 (25:59):
Clifton Done, Shawn Jolly, those guys.
Speaker 6 (26:01):
I don't know what those corners look like now, but
if there's anything like that, they can kind of get
back to that identity. I wonder on offensively what they're
gonna do, because Coach Loggins comes from a different tree,
but they've always been traditionally a pistol outside his own team.
Speaker 1 (26:13):
Can I run it down your throat and take my
play action shots?
Speaker 6 (26:15):
I mean Zach Thomas in twenty eighteen when I think
it was seventeen for seventeen against US. Yeah, and that's
e fishing attach But that goes to show they threw
it seventeen times and they knew when they're throwing it
they're gonna get a completion. And that's kind of how
they has always been. And I wonder if they're gonna
be like that again.
Speaker 1 (26:27):
So what are your thoughts on Charlotte as a whole?
Speaker 2 (26:30):
Like I said, I know we'll predict the game A
little bit later, we went through our schedule predictions, and
as it stands right now, I have them at four
and seven before we picked the Charlotte matchup.
Speaker 1 (26:39):
Walk, I think you're I got five same, Yeah, you
got as well. Man.
Speaker 2 (26:43):
So what do you think because you've been out to practices,
you've been checking them out.
Speaker 1 (26:47):
What's the feeling that you get.
Speaker 2 (26:49):
Do you feel like the this squad has enough there
that Alvin could take them potentially to a Bowl game
this year?
Speaker 1 (26:54):
Do you feel like it's gonna take a little bit
of time.
Speaker 6 (26:56):
Well, I will say when I'm out there, it looks
different than when I have been out to the two years.
You know, obviously we were like a run the ball
down your throw type of team. You want to run
and run and run and run until we have to
throw it.
Speaker 3 (27:06):
Now it's more like, okay, let's let's the way he
said that, walk the mail true quarterback.
Speaker 1 (27:12):
Okay, he's rolling his eyes.
Speaker 2 (27:14):
He's like, run yeah, past it because he wants to
spend it.
Speaker 3 (27:18):
Well, okay, look we again, we need to We need
to protect Chris here for a couple of different At
the end.
Speaker 6 (27:24):
Of the day, when you're playing against a defense, let's
take what they give you.
Speaker 1 (27:28):
You know what I mean. If they're gonna load the box,
all right, screw you I went outside.
Speaker 3 (27:32):
What about throwing seven yard passes thirteen times the sideline?
Speaker 6 (27:37):
I don't know, man, Okay, I call plays with a
JV squad a Myers Park.
Speaker 1 (27:42):
You know, I don't know if I'm doing that.
Speaker 3 (27:44):
So I'm sorry we interrupted you. West and you're saying
it feels different out there, Yeah, it does. It just
seems like there was more of a culture. You know,
everybody's on the same page at all times. You know,
you got to lean on your leaders a little bit too,
that have been there as you bring transferred in. You know,
you're Brown's, You're Johnny Kings, You're Reid Willifords. I missing
(28:05):
Henry Rutledge. Spark plug Henry. That's what I want to
talk about. I mean, it's well documented. I'm a huge
fan of Henry Ruttledge. I'm a captain of the Henry
Ruttledge fan Club. You played with you played with him.
Speaker 6 (28:17):
There's the clips of me in the twenty twenty two
conference you say kickoff down in Texas in Arlington, and
I'm like, hey, they're asking me, Okay, who's going to
be the guy that surprises Henry relig He's just one
of those guys when the ball gets in his hand,
you just don't know.
Speaker 1 (28:30):
What's going to happen.
Speaker 3 (28:31):
So okay, it worries me when you're talking about app
state possibly with two backers forcing everything inside not letting
him break into the outside. Like I feel like that's
where Rutledge could really get going, especially with that speed.
Speaker 1 (28:42):
So if they can, then excellent.
Speaker 3 (28:45):
But also does this feel like a It feels like
a bad matchup for Ruttledge to get loose. But here's
my real question. How many touches are going to see
from him?
Speaker 1 (28:54):
Man? I would love to see it.
Speaker 6 (28:55):
I mean, I know that they're I think it's a
little bit running back by committee. But Henry's a type
of guy where it's like okay, like he doesn't have
to just run power or counter or inside zone or duo.
He meaning like interior runs. He's somebody you can put
in the backfield in a two back situation and have
him like run in orbit motion where he kind of
motions behind see if they match numbers to the perimeter
or maybe just throw it out or to them. You
(29:17):
can put them out wide, see if a linebacker matches
up with him for a one on one go ball.
You can put him in the backfield and run mesh
like a wheel route from the boundary. Like that's what
I loved. I said, hey when I was in Charlotte's like, hey,
I'm third downs. Can I please have this man in
the out there and maybe get into empty You'll see
we can get him into the space because if it's third
and six, I want him to get the rock. He'll
make somebody miss and get an extra five. You know,
(29:37):
did they listen to you that much?
Speaker 1 (29:38):
Oh?
Speaker 6 (29:38):
Yeah, he get out there Georgia State twenty twenty two.
I remember vividly, get out there, get we get a turnover,
we come back at their throw wheel next play for explosive.
Speaker 3 (29:47):
Coach man, Look, I love you too, Tim Albyn, Like
I've got all the belief in you in the world.
I'm gonna need to see Henry Rutledge out there way
more than I've seen him the last couple of years.
Speaker 1 (29:55):
And what do you think.
Speaker 2 (29:56):
About coach Alvin's offensive philosophy, because we know he specializes
in developing running backs.
Speaker 1 (30:00):
They were heavy on a run at Ohio.
Speaker 2 (30:02):
When you checked out the tape of Tim Albens offense,
did it make you excited for the potential of what
Charlotte's offensive philosophy.
Speaker 6 (30:09):
It's kind of a It kind of reminds you of
the twenty nineteen offense. You know, like I was saying earlier,
taking what the defense gives you. You know, they're gonna
have some RPOs in there that you have to be
able to run the ball in college football, obviously that's
a priority, but also understanding that the like the perimeter
screens things so that are extension of your run game.
So what I've seen in the past with Ohio, it
seems like it's very similar in that quarterback with his legs,
you know, adding an extra threat. I see it kind
(30:30):
of similar to twenty nineteen from that layout, because if
you were look at the twenty nineteen roster, I mean
you had Benny right me, I was a question mark
at the time. They're like, okay, who's the quarterback? Is
Chris coming back? Who's a walk on twenty eighteen? Is
this who we're relying on? Then outside receiver it was Victor,
but he was still going into his second year, so
it's like, Okay, this is kind of similar in a way.
It lays out, you know, you got your Sean Brown. Obviously,
(30:50):
Henry's that you can't like classify as a Benny Lamay,
but somebody who can be explosive as Benny LeMay quarterback?
Why still question mark offensive line? You know, we had
Camp Clark in twenty nineteen and a couple of returners
that didn't kind of have big names at the time,
so it could play out the same.
Speaker 3 (31:04):
I want to go back to your two games that
you played against app State. First question is what game
that I'm not going to ask you what game was
more painful from a oh my god, you got beat
the hell up standpoint because that was the nine point game.
Speaker 1 (31:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (31:18):
An app State coach came up to me afterwards after
that one and said, that guy is a tough nut
out there. Like he talked about how much you got destroyed.
Did you get injured in that one? In that app
Stated night home.
Speaker 6 (31:30):
Not in eighteen or nineteen twenty. I I got hurt
the first play of the game.
Speaker 1 (31:33):
I don't feel like you were well in that game.
Speaker 3 (31:36):
It didn't seem like you got beat up as much
as you did the first game, right, like you were
running for your life back there. But what one was
the more painful loss? The one where the app State
one convincingly, or was the one twenty nineteen on the
Mountain where twenty nineteen our first year.
Speaker 1 (31:49):
In the Mountain.
Speaker 6 (31:50):
Twenty eighteen was just like my second ever start is
kind of like, okay, I've stay there. You know, they're
at the better team. Twenty nineteen we had them. You know,
it was a high scoring shootout. They kind of beat
us up in the first half. Then we fifty six
forty one to be yeah, and that at one point
it was one touchdown game because I took that on
side kickback to the house with like two minutes lons
and just looked bad. But we were going like we
were kind of scoring at will. That's when we threw
(32:10):
two go balls at Victor Tucker. One was like a
slant and go, the other one was a press go
and Victor came up big on both of those. Michaeleus
Elder was getting loose in the space. Yeah, michallus Elder
for those you know that guy, Yeah, yeah, he was
a spark plug himself. Benny got loose, remember that. I
think it was a six yard touchdown first series or
second series of the game. So we came out there,
we turned some heads and I was like, okay, this
star of the team, like, yeah, they beat Gardner Web
(32:31):
pretty convincingly, and then we kind of stood total show
with Upstate in a packed house and white out and
they're like okay.
Speaker 3 (32:36):
Well it seemed like from what I remember, that was
almost one of my first introductions to analytics on two
point conversion tess, right, because you guys went for it,
and you guys were you were down sixteen and he
went for two or what was it.
Speaker 1 (32:48):
I remember that there was one.
Speaker 6 (32:49):
We got the first one, and that was towards the
field house side, not the hillside, and that was a thing.
It was just a screen to Victor and at worked.
Then we tried to do it again and that didn't work.
Speaker 3 (32:57):
It did not, And I remember you talk about fans
angry at that one because analytics was such a new concept.
Speaker 1 (33:03):
That was like twenty nineteen.
Speaker 3 (33:05):
Now it's the rules of the books might say go
for two in this scenario, so you know whether you
have to go for two on your last drive or not,
and so now that's what it kind of says, but
it wasn't. It was not that information wasn't as readily
available then, and I just remember my part of the
student section Dahl Custin will hear for that decision, and
I was kind of wondering why you would do it,
(33:26):
but again it starts to become commonplace now, like that's
the decision to roll with because of what the numbers.
Speaker 1 (33:31):
Chris.
Speaker 2 (33:31):
I wanted to ask you about the skill talent, man,
because we talked about Jaden McGowan, the guy that they
got from Vanderbilt and Boston College. He's the most seasoned
guy on the roster of four hundred and fifty three
yards of Vandy, three hundred and eighty three and twenty
three there, and then he's got eighty two career receptions. Man,
So what do you think about that, because a lot
can be made. We talked about how much we like
(33:52):
the short jitterbug receivers at five seven, Man, what type
of year do you think he could have.
Speaker 6 (33:57):
I think you have a big year, man, Like I
was saying before, if they want to come in there
and kind of handle the two interior guys with the
quarterback and running back.
Speaker 1 (34:03):
He's somebody who can get loose if you look.
Speaker 6 (34:04):
Back to like a Victor Tucker from twenty nineteen, because
you know if you get if you get that nickel,
that extra linebacker to the field getting answer for the run.
There's a lot of space for the high safety. Now
can you manage that space? Can you catch that five
yard glance when the state with a nickel comes down?
Speaker 1 (34:18):
This is a quarterback time. I love it. I start
getting on a roll. But he can you know, hot bother,
you know what I'm saying. But you need to have
that intir guy.
Speaker 6 (34:28):
You need those outside guys for those one on one shots,
you know, right at those if they get in the
cover four right, you're one on one comebacks, digs, curls.
But you need that guy in space who can manage
it and field space, sit down the ten yard ends,
you know, catch that option route and feel leverage, go
in or go out. So I think that he's got
experience doing that. It looks like he had two great
years of Vanderbilt. I think he's gonna have a great
year this year.
Speaker 2 (34:47):
All right, So what we're gonna do here, We're gonna
put a pin in this conversation. We're gonna come back
and then we're going to ask Chris what he thinks
about the game today. We're gonna pick it and we're
gonna talk a little Michael Parsons, Michael Parsons, Cherry Well,
we're gonna talk a little bit of that because we
know you guys want to hear our thoughts on that
as well. On the other side, this is The West
and Walker Show, Chris Reynolds in studio.
Speaker 1 (35:15):
We return here on.
Speaker 2 (35:16):
The West and Walker Show reminding you to hit us
up on social media WFNZ on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
You can also hit us up at HTB Anthony at
West Bran Underscore seventy two, at Walker mal and I'm
gonna throw Chris Reynolds in there as well at Chris
Reynolds Underscore three and most importantly at West and Walkers.
Who've got Chris Reynolds former Charlotte quarterback great CRQB development
(35:40):
got that all going right there, and we were just
talking about just how many quarterbacks that he is training. Man,
it is unbelievable. So Chris Reynolds is getting a lot
of work. So I guess at this point I told
the listeners, if you've got a kid that's a quarterback,
to send him out there. But man, you're gonna have
to sign up and get in line because he's got
it all going.
Speaker 1 (35:56):
One hundred and thirty quarterbacks, my man, lot of them. Man,
they'll keep me busy, you know.
Speaker 2 (36:01):
Was it a slow grind like to where you started,
like with a couple of kids, and then it just
words started to spread.
Speaker 6 (36:06):
And then well, when I was doing it in the
off season, when I was in the CFL, I was
just doing it like I was doing like ten kids
at a time and under nobody really knew about it.
I didn't market it or anything because I want to
folks on my game. But after you got really sorry,
all right, let's market to see what happens here in
word of mouth social media posts kind of blew up
pretty quick. By the end of last summer, I was
out about fifty forty to fifty different quarterbacks. And then
(36:27):
by the time we went to that fall in this summer,
we've gotten up there to one hundred and thirty. And
I've at the point where were like, all right, you
can only book two weeks out right, you got to
make sure you claim.
Speaker 1 (36:34):
It's probably better to get there big time, babe. Awesome stuff. Man, Hey,
that's that's awesome. That is man, that is great, man.
Speaker 2 (36:40):
And so as I said, kids from all across the country,
you say you got five stars, four stars.
Speaker 1 (36:45):
Man, you got to go on part we got some
good ones.
Speaker 2 (36:47):
Yeah all right, I love it, all right, so real quick,
we hadn't gotten to it yet. The Michael Parsons trade
goes down yesterday, the trade heard around the world. In
my opinion, that's probably the biggest NFL trade that happened
in a little bit.
Speaker 1 (36:59):
I mean, look like it is funny.
Speaker 3 (37:02):
I do love local radio because it's the only medium
where Charlotte forty nine Ers games are gonna lead over
at Micah Parson's trade. But it deserves it. We do
need to get to the Mica stuff though. It probably
has to be like the Tyreek Hill trade. That was
a big one going from Kansas City to Miami. Everything
that you kind of knew that one. This was well,
(37:23):
it did sneak up on us though, like it did
sneak up on us for a little bit. But that
was the best one I could say. Other than that
the two first and Kenny Clark, who is a good
enough player, but only the two first. I thought it
was gonna be a lot more than that.
Speaker 1 (37:37):
Chris.
Speaker 3 (37:37):
If you are the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys and
you see Michah Parsons get traded for two first, that
can't help you this season, but you do see a
defensive tackle. How are you feeling as the signal caller
of that franchise?
Speaker 6 (37:48):
I mean, it's somebody that you gotta play what like
late September Week four, I think it is, I mean,
my son of them.
Speaker 3 (37:53):
And maybe and look, if everything goes right in the postseason,
I mean you have to have that factor as well.
Can you imagine going up against the Green Bay Packers?
And I know Mike has had a shortcoming to the
postseasons a couple of times, but don't let this be
the game that he goes off against it.
Speaker 6 (38:07):
He knows the tackles, he knows the Cowboys offensive line.
Speaker 1 (38:10):
How are you feeling about the trade?
Speaker 2 (38:13):
A lot of people were kind of up in arms,
and I said, to me, from the Cowboys side of it,
I wasn't mad at it. I felt like at the
end of the day that Michael Parsons only has one
sack in four playoff games. And while I said that
that can't improve, but also you're talking about a guy who,
you know, the podcast was a little bit of an issue.
He's talking every week airing out the family business. We'd
(38:35):
heard in the locker room. He wasn't necessarily the most
well liked guy to get two first rounders in a
Pro Bowl. Defensive tackle Ja Jones did say he felt
like they needed to stop the run first and foremost.
But I also felt like, man, that contract that he
got forty seven per I was like, no way, I'm
paying an edge Russia that kind of money. That's quarterback money.
That is insane. I was like, no, I'm not with that.
(38:58):
But as far as on the surface, I thought for
that it might not be the worst move because we
know that this is a franchise that they draft really
well in the first round. Man, they don't really miss
on that first round picks like that. And so, I mean,
the kid that they got this year to guard out
of Alabama, he's already showing up and playing really good.
Speaker 1 (39:15):
I think I forgot what is Tyllas Smith.
Speaker 2 (39:17):
He's already playing really well for the Cowboys and looking
at being that Tyler Booker Tyler Booker so and so yeah, man,
So I think for Dallas it wasn't the worst thing
in the world. Could be an addition by subtraction type
of situation. I mean, you're talking about paying a guy
like I said, that kind of money forty seven million
for an edge rusher. I just don't know if I
would be too thrilled about that for an organization.
Speaker 1 (39:37):
I'm cheering for it.
Speaker 3 (39:38):
Look, if we can get back to college football in
a second, I will say I did hate it. From
a Cowboys standpoint, I think Michael Parsons is a difference
maker at that position. And while maybe he o has
only had one sack and four playoff games, they get
to the postseason four times since he got drafted in
the first round just four years ago. You get there
(40:00):
because of, in part, what he's doing defensively for you,
wreaking havoc on the outside, and so like for a
guy like Trey Hendrickson or who are the best pass rushers,
TJ Watt, Miles Garrett, Like, okay, those guys are also
some of the best pass rushers in the game.
Speaker 1 (40:15):
For sure.
Speaker 3 (40:16):
We have a handful of playoff games to choose from
to criticize Micah. We don't for Trey, right, we don't
for some of these other best edge rushers, And so
they get there in part because Micah is so special
and now they're trading him that defense is gonna be terrible.
That's a big difference when you're losing out on thirteen
to I mean seventeen potential saxually the kind of ability
(40:38):
that he possesses, and you're only getting two first rounders.
I will say they've had an excellent history of drafting,
but it feels like the biggest hit that they've had
in recent memory is Micah. The other picks they've had,
Tyler Smith is good, not amazing. Mazzie Smith is a bust.
Tyler Geiden, Yeah, Tyler Booker. The last four first round picks,
(40:59):
they haven't all the great. The last one that you
had was great. It was Micah and now you're sending
him out the building. So I didn't love it. But anyway,
he's in Green Bay.
Speaker 1 (41:07):
One thing I will say.
Speaker 2 (41:08):
Too, is I never like training guys within the conference
that you're playing in. I'm like, Okay, if you're gonna
be vine to try to get to a super Bowl,
why would you do that to me? You send them
to the AFC, So, I mean, what do you think
about it?
Speaker 1 (41:20):
Chris? From your vanish point, I just think, you know,
it was just so dramatic, you know what I mean?
Speaker 6 (41:25):
I couldn't imagine being a player in that building trying
to get ready for week one and next thing, you know,
I mean this guy, he's sleeping on the training table
during the game.
Speaker 1 (41:31):
You know, Jerry's talking about all day long. It's just exhausting.
Speaker 6 (41:34):
It's like, do you guys just either cut bait or
figure this out because it's hurting everybody at the end
of the day from a player's standpoint, you know, I mean,
at the end of the day, Well, you're playing DAT,
You're paying DAK, you're paying CD, You're paying these guys
a lot of money.
Speaker 1 (41:45):
I don't know who they're paying over there at Green Bell.
Speaker 6 (41:46):
Than Jordan that much money, you know what I mean,
there's other because they got a bunch of young receivers.
Speaker 2 (41:50):
Yeah, they got they got ready to guy here, Alexander,
he was the guy that was making a lot of money.
Speaker 6 (41:54):
So it makes more sense for them to pay that money.
And I could see Jerry be like, I'm not paying this.
Speaker 2 (41:58):
Yeah, and I think so when you look at Green Bay,
like they've got a lot of young guys who are
making a ton of money like that. Yet I'm not
sure when was the last time they pay Rashawn Gary,
But I was the.
Speaker 1 (42:08):
Last time they've really paid somebody in general.
Speaker 3 (42:10):
At a little more palatable for Green Bay, no doubt,
And it's been a little bit, I think probably. I
guess you're right that the names were bringing up Ji year.
Jordan Love is the guy that they paid big time.
But their whole thing is, we have a bunch of
wide receiver twos. We don't have the stud wide receiver one.
Maybe Matthew Golden becomes that, and he's not up for
that kind of contract.
Speaker 1 (42:27):
So here's a question. What you know?
Speaker 3 (42:29):
A lot of people are asking if you're a Carolina
Panthers fan and you see Michael Parsons go for two
first and a aging defensive tackle Pro bowler though yet
still I wouldn't say as a top five, top ten
defensive tackle in the league at this point, should Carolina
have gone in on this?
Speaker 1 (42:46):
And what would you be willing to give up? Yeah?
Speaker 6 (42:48):
I mean defensively who they I mean they got rid
of Burns last year.
Speaker 2 (42:51):
We were saying that you either would had to have
given up brown.
Speaker 1 (42:55):
Or j C. Horn. Yeah, I mean, are you out?
It's tough.
Speaker 3 (43:01):
I think I don't want to give up Derek brown
Man when I trade for Micah, I have visions of
those guys playing on the defensive line at the same time,
so I'm doing everything I can to keep them. I
think Mike has a bigger impact on the game than
Derek Brown does. But I want Derek Brown pretty damn
badly in my franchise. And so if I'm having to
trade somebody and you need a star, it probably has
(43:22):
to be JC. I don't want to trade them, but
if I had to choose between the two.
Speaker 2 (43:26):
That because I said with the pass rush that I'm
gonna get adding a guy like that, I can maybe
afford a slight down grade or corner because my pass
rush is gonna be able to help those guys elevate
that game.
Speaker 1 (43:36):
What's the thing you hated facing most?
Speaker 3 (43:38):
Like, if you can get real footballie, you can get
real vague with us as a starting quarterback. What's the
thing you hated facing the most? Was it a top
tier edge rusher, was it an excellent secondary, a certain
type of coverage? What was something that you hated seeing
on the other side tier edge?
Speaker 2 (43:55):
Yeah, I was gonna say, like big time pass rush
and an average secondary or an average pass rush with
the big time second.
Speaker 6 (44:00):
I have enough confidence in my wide guys and my
ability to play ball where I need to be, Like
with a Grandy Bosolage spenser.
Speaker 1 (44:06):
They I'll take those guys over any corner.
Speaker 6 (44:08):
But if I got an edge guy coming at me
like full speed bul rush on my right tackle, I have.
Speaker 1 (44:12):
No chance, you know what I mean.
Speaker 6 (44:13):
It's so, it's definitely and it's the most exhausting and
lingering thing throughout the run game. Next you know, you're
in second and twelve. Next you know, now they're teeing
off on you. You know, second and twelve and thirty thirteen.
It's a it's a never ending loop.
Speaker 3 (44:26):
Do you hate that more than interior pass rush? In
tior pass rush is also brutal. Yeah, I mean, obviously
you're trying to look through the middle of the field.
These guys are just getting put in your lad and
now you're shoving back next to me. You know, the
left tack right tack are getting beat up. Now, I
mean in Tier, I would say that too. In Tier
is probably the most annoying part.
Speaker 6 (44:42):
Now, if I have like an all American nose or
an all American end, the nose is going to cause
me more issues.
Speaker 2 (44:47):
Yeah, And how much did it speed up your process?
You know, pre snap and post snap, when you knew
you were going up against a top tip pass rush,
when you knew that they had good balance left side,
right side, and the middle they were gonna bring it.
Speaker 1 (44:58):
Like, what is the thought process.
Speaker 6 (45:00):
Thought presses on first and second down? We can't go backwards.
Speaker 1 (45:02):
We can't.
Speaker 6 (45:03):
I need to get to a third and six where
I know good and well, Like, I can do a
few things. I can no quick game. I can take
a shot one on one before game and run the
ball to the boundary or something something where they can't
tee off.
Speaker 3 (45:14):
Last question on this before we go to break and
then we play balling or falling congratulations before we.
Speaker 1 (45:19):
Go the app State game?
Speaker 3 (45:21):
Are we I say at the end of the show, okay,
the grand gesture. We can get his thoughts, Okay, okay, yeah, okay,
I'm trying to game date.
Speaker 1 (45:28):
You're good.
Speaker 3 (45:29):
I'm trying to leek Horso put on that. I'm trying
to do all of it. But with you being a
shorter quarterback. We talked a little bit about this with
Bryce So interior pass rush as a short quarterback, is
it more annoying for you than it is Evan Sheriff
slash Andy Dalton like with some of the other backup
taller qbs, and how do you get around it is
just you have no choice but to flush out of
(45:50):
the pocket.
Speaker 1 (45:50):
I would think so.
Speaker 6 (45:51):
I mean, it's annoying to get me wrong, but if
you know the concept and you understand what the defensive
presenting you, you have an idea of presap where.
Speaker 1 (45:58):
The ball needs to go and at what time.
Speaker 6 (46:00):
Now, the only thing is like when you get both
your garden center both like hipped hip back in your pocket,
that's where it gets your because I don't have a
base now at this point, maybe they can reach over
the top and take care of it. It's not a
matter I can't see. I have to move left right now,
and that's time.
Speaker 3 (46:13):
Well and Party mentioned this where he's like, there's a
lot of throws I can't see, Like, I just have
to know the coverages. I gotta go where my guys
are gonna be, and I'm just gonna hope that they're
there to catch it.
Speaker 1 (46:22):
And a lot of times he's right, Yeah, that's why
I'm partying. Is that's the boy.
Speaker 2 (46:26):
So when we come back the season debut, a ball
and a fall in. Chris Reynolds is going to join us.
I guess he's like our celebrity guest picker all right.
