Speaker 1 (00:15):
Welcome back, folks.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
This is the Weston Walker Show Sports Radio ninety two
seven w FNZ from the Chandler Vote to Studio, CV
Injury Law dot Com.

Speaker 1 (00:23):
That Cvinjurylaw dot Com. One call.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
That's all the Carolina's personal injury lawyers.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
Hey, let's go.

Speaker 3 (00:30):
I did it without the script, Okay, oh yeah, even
the script to be honest. Yeah, that's our guys, by
the way, because we got to repetitions.

Speaker 2 (00:37):
But yes, man, it's gonna be a pretty good college
football weekend. And we start off tonight with NC State
and Wake Forward. So let's not waste any more time.
It's time for balling and balling or falling shopping. Drop
that intro wear.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
Mean, doctor Arshad, you can't see my eyes soles, my
head has been you do.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
So all right, let's get in there, folks. Tonight, m
C State will be at Wake Forest. The teams have
met every season since nineteen ten, making it the longest
continuous rivalry in the ACC and the second longest in

(01:28):
the FBES. Six of the last eight games between n
C State and Wake Forest have been decided by ten
points or less, and five by six points or less.
Wake Forest is averaging over two hundred rushing yards per game,
ranking fourth in the ACC through the first two weeks. Man,
when we did our team week for Wake Forest and
for NC State, I picked the Demon Deacons to win

(01:48):
this game. N C State is a seven and a
half point favorite, but I'm gonna stick with my pick tonight.
Do I feel fantastic about it, No, But I'm still
sticking with my Demon DC to pull it off because
last year the Deeks were supposedly down, and they were,
but they still were able to go in to Riley
and get a victory.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
So let me get the Demon Deeks to be balling.

Speaker 3 (02:10):
N C State perhaps a chance that to get back
tour with the first three games of the season having
beaten ECU. They did beat Virginia in this game, but
really the two get back games were beating the Pirates
to open up the season. Perhaps they do so again
against Wake Forest. I think they will. They open up,
as you mentioned, a seven and a half point favorite
on the road quote unquote in triad on the Road.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
I think CJ. Bailey is awesome.

Speaker 3 (02:34):
I think NC State offensively really clicking right now. So
I think because of the numbers that they're going to
be able to put up. They end up balling against
the Demon Deacon.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
All Right.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
App State only a two and a half point favorite
walker Male over Southern Miss.

Speaker 1 (02:52):
They will be on the road through two games.

Speaker 2 (02:53):
App State, though, ranks in the top twenty nationally and
total offense and total defense. Amongst some of their FBS leaders,
AJ Swan is tied for sixth in the country at
three hundred and thirty one passing yards per game. Rashad
Debinion is number two at one hundred and fifty two
resting yards per game. Southern Miss scored thirty eight points
and it's win over Jackson State last week. It was

(03:15):
the most point since scoring thirty eight against app State
in October of twenty twenty three. I think that this
is going to be a really good game on toald.
I like Southern Miss a little bit more than you do,
because I think the coach is the real deal, and
he brought a lot of his players over there with him.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
But give me app State to be balling. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (03:34):
I mean, they did score seventeen points against Mississippi State.
They did have a nice eighteen point win against Jackson State.
I just think app State is a team that I
trust a little more right now with what they've shown earlier.
You mentioned the offense, and here's another quarterback that I
trust in aj Swan. At least Go Lopez didn't destroy Charlotte.
Aj Swa did so if we're just saying it's Charlotte's defense,

(03:54):
they're terrible, whatever, that is true, but Go Lopez didn't
do what Swan. So I do think think that, especially
with the rushing statistics that you also provided, I think
dal Loggins is starting to earn some respect as a
guy that's able to groom some quarterbacks to be pretty
good and reach their ceiling.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
Give me up State to.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
Be bound and they cannot turn the ball over though
like they did. Appstate has got to get those turnovers
under control. East Carolina heading down to Coastal Carolina going
down to the beach, baby Cayden Howson completing nearly seventy
percent of his throw six hundred and eighty yards, three touchdowns,
no picks. Defensively, East Carolina only giving up thirteen and
a half points per game two hundred and eighty seven

(04:32):
yards per game, and Coastal Carolina their rushing attack. That's
the only positive thing you can point to offensively, and
also their defense giving up twenty four points a game
over three hundred yards per contest. Told Jennis, when Coasta
Carolina's trying to get that passing game in order, Tad Hudson,
I'm not.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
Sure if he's the guy right there.

Speaker 2 (04:53):
So give me East Carolina seven and a half point
favorite to be bawling.

Speaker 3 (04:57):
I hate for this to be such a quarter back
centric balling or falling from yours truly, but these are
the helpless going to be heavy going into these games.
That's how it is. Kate Hauser has been very good
Coastal Carolina. We don't have to be QB centric for them.
They've just not been good period in the first two games.
I don't care if I have been a fan of Virginia.
They got beat down to open up the season. That

(05:18):
did not set a good precedent of things to come.
I think ECU is going to be balling. I just
think they're pretty clearly the better team through this point
in the college football season.

Speaker 2 (05:26):
All Right, the Darien Mencibo Duke would travel to Tulane
when Tulane is the favorite and this one by one
and a half. Duke plays his first road game of
twenty twenty five. Darien Mensa returns to New Orleans, where
he started thirteen games for them last year. He stopped
three hundred yards passing in both games this year and
his fourth nationally with seven hundred and twenty three passing yards.

(05:47):
Quarterback for Tulane. Jack Jake retzlof the BYU transfer one
hundred and seventy seven rushing yards, two touchdowns plus another
two seventy seven through two scores, and the Greenway defense
leaves the nation with seven takeaways. Duke has been turning
the ball over at a high clip. When we picked

(06:07):
this game during team week, I picked the Duke Blue Devils,
But I'm gonna go the other way, and I think
that the Duke Blue Devils will be falling to two lang.

Speaker 3 (06:16):
Yet you don't like what you've seen from Duke so far.
Really the first couple of weeks, I think they aren't
able to run the ball. They turn the ball over a.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
Ton, which puts their defense, which is pretty good in
my opinion, in bad positions. But I just think when
you can't run the football and you turn it over
a lot, I just think that that's just a recipe
for mediocrity.

Speaker 3 (06:37):
Darien Mensa had a bad fumble against Illinois where he
was pretty careless with the football.

Speaker 1 (06:42):
He also had the interception.

Speaker 3 (06:44):
I will say the backbreaking mistakes they go into the
evaluation because it ends scoring drives.

Speaker 1 (06:49):
It was in the red zone.

Speaker 3 (06:50):
I believe where Mensa fumbled this football against Illinois. Can't
do it against the good football team, you're gonna lose. No,
so he had a big part in them losing. I
still like them. I still think he's a good quarter
There were still some really impressive throws reaching over three
hundred yards, especially in the second half against Elon Too
Lane is good. You mentioned their defense. It was against
South Alabama they did allow thirty A lot of the

(07:12):
overall stats for what they did so far, it has
to they just taken half football away well, and it's
because of what they did against Northwestern limiting them to
three points. In South Alabama they did allow thirty one.
I think Duke's offense is going to be good enough.
I think Mensa. I don't think he's a high turnover
prone quarterback. I think he'll get it squared away, especially

(07:34):
with the philosophy of going against your old team.

Speaker 2 (07:36):
Ye give me Duke to be balling all right. A
lot of disagreement Vandy in South Carolina. You talk about
quarterback matchup in this one. The game Cocks have won
each of the last sixteen games against Vanderbilt and twenty
three of the last twenty five between these two schools.
The North sellers off to a sixty and a half
percent completion percentage, three hundred and thirty seven yards passing

(07:57):
two scores, also forty eight yards rush and a score.
But the biggest staft for him he has not turned
the ball over this season. We know about Diego Pavia.
He went into Blacks bird stomping in those big cleats
and got it done. He holds the highest offensive rating
of any quarterback with the ninety three point one grade
through two weeks according to PFF, and also leads all

(08:20):
qualified players with a twelve percent big throw percentage. This
is a tough one. I struggled with this one during
South Carolina's team week. I picked the game Cars this
week with Vandy coming to South Carolina, I will take
the game Cocks to be bowling only because they are
at home. Because the wake force in me. I relate

(08:41):
a lot to Vanderbilt and how they give it up.
They're talking about this is one of the best teams
that they've had, maybe the best ever.

Speaker 1 (08:48):
I like them a lot.

Speaker 2 (08:49):
I would not be shot at all if the Doors
got this win.

Speaker 3 (08:52):
But I'll go to South Carolina. I thought you were
gonna change it. I was this close if you were
to ask me where you think West is going. It
just based off of some of your takes with South Carolina.
And it's not like they've been wildly impressive to open
up the season. I believe in South Carolina's defense. I
did coming into the year. Nothing I've seen has swayed
me from that opinion. They've not played great football teams.

(09:14):
It's been Virginia Tech, where Vanderbilt only allowed them to
score twenty points, and it's been South Carolina State, to
which South Carolina limited to ten points. So this is
the first real competition that they're going to face. If
they keep Vandy in check offensively, then playing off the
ground ready to fly with what the game Cocks can do,
I think they're going to be balling this weekend against

(09:36):
the Commodores. I haven't seen enough to sway my opinion,
but yeah, I'm with you. Vanderbilt doesn't seem like a
one year fluke for the commodoor.

Speaker 2 (09:42):
All right, and then the number twelve Clemson Tigers walk
a mill. This spread has dropped to two and a
half at what was it was nine and a half?

Speaker 1 (09:51):
Yeah? Two?

Speaker 2 (09:52):
As they go to Atlanta to take on the Yellow Jackets.
They have one non straight have the Clemson Tigers. They
came back from a sixteen point halftime deficit against Troy
last week, seventh biggest comeback in program history for Georgia
Tech quarterback and Filow. He earned ACC Rookie of the
Week honors after he threw for three hundred and seventy
three yards in a score versus Gardner Webb in his

(10:14):
first career start. And Georgia Tech leads the ACC in
total offense, yards per play, rushing, in red zone scoring.
Those marks all ranked in the top ten nationally.

Speaker 1 (10:27):
Clemson is underachieving in a major way.

Speaker 2 (10:30):
I thought that this would be a game that they
would come down and get the job done yet again,
because they've won nine straight.

Speaker 1 (10:36):
Who am I gonna pick in this game?

Speaker 2 (10:37):
Because Georgia Tech has me very very worried. I'm gonna
stick with the Clemson Tigers to be balling. But this
is another one of those that if I look down
at the score and see that the Yellow Jackets have
gotten this done, won't bat an eye.

Speaker 3 (10:53):
So Clemson and Georgia Tech, it did not play last year.
They did play in twenty twenty three. King was the
quarterback in that game and they got beat down after
a twenty one points second quarter Clemson had and then
they just turned it on the second half again forty
two to twenty one. It was beat downvote. And that
was when Clemson moved to six and four after that victory.
So it's not like it was a prominent Clemson team.

(11:17):
Haines King looks like he's progressing. That's the big question.
If Haines King doesn't play, then there's no way Georgia
Tech keeps this all that close.

Speaker 2 (11:25):
So you're not a big believe in Filo because he
had flashes last year. He came in and hurt Miami
when they beat Miami last year.

Speaker 3 (11:30):
I just think Haines King is one of the best
quarterbacks in the Aces, and I think it takes that
kind of effort, in that kind of talent to beat
the talent that Clemson has. Even if they haven't looked good,
I'm going Clemson still yeah, I didn't saying you don't
sound confident though I don't.

Speaker 4 (11:46):
Yeah, it doesn't seem like it should be the ballin
if she was like falling.

Speaker 1 (11:49):
Yeah, I think they're Yeah, I don't even know what word.
I don't.

Speaker 3 (11:53):
I can't call it ballin, but I think they're going
to win. If they lose to Georgia Tech or if
this thing is real close, then I think this is where, like,
now we have to have some are they going to
represent the ACC at all kind of conversation?

Speaker 1 (12:10):
Are they going to make it to Charlotte for the
a CEC champions right?

Speaker 2 (12:12):
And then in the ball is ball and I decided
to rename that section where I feel like we will
agree in a consensus fashion a game so Richie in
North Carolina, I think we win. We're not sure how
good they will look, troppy when you look at some
of those spreads the gambling young man that you are,
are there any that you like or really.

Speaker 1 (12:29):
Don't like if you were to look at this board?

Speaker 4 (12:32):
H yeah, as of right now, I actually like State
seven and a half. I would take that. I think
that they're going to beat the doors off awake for
us today.

Speaker 1 (12:40):
Sorry you during the.

Speaker 4 (12:43):
Yeah, I think I think NC State covers seven and
a half, and I would take hm, that's tough. I
would I would take Tulane to cover one and a
half over Duke outright win. Yeah, okay, I.

Speaker 1 (12:58):
Mean pretty much.

Speaker 3 (13:00):
Yeah, I mean but you know the one, Oh, I'm stupid.
I thought it was I'm sorry, I thought it was
too Lane. Was was the other doctor?

Speaker 4 (13:07):
The one I was gonna ask you guys about, is
not here Charlotte and Monmouth.

Speaker 1 (13:12):
I forgot to put Charlotte Monmouth in there too. That's
another Is that a ball of bawling?

Speaker 2 (13:18):
Is that one where we feel a consensus about Charlotte.
I'm gonna go with Sean, but I think this one
could be real. Momon, beooty, game, fathers be balling.

Speaker 1 (13:26):
Walk.

Speaker 2 (13:26):
I think you're gonna be sitting in the fourth quarter
like it'll be all right? Am I gonna be feeling
when this one is over? Okay, okay, knock on wood,
all right, it'll be all good. Baller's balling baby, go Niners,
all right, no doubt about it, folks. When when we
come back, we know you love it. Panthers Cardinals Top
ten is next, looking back, folks, this is the West

(13:57):
and Walker shows What's Ready ONNY two seven w FNZ
on a Thursday. Hold on, baby, Fire of Fizzle is
on the way. We've got great mean athletes, so you're
not going to want to miss that one. Who gave
that suggestion yesterday to do that? The FanDuel take a
bagel guys. It said that, But thanks for the suggestion.
You asked for it, so we're gonna give it to you.

(14:19):
All right, got a lot to get through in this one.
I thought this was one of the tougher top tens
that we will do, but it's only week two. You
gotta do a lot of research, man, because these football
players in this game, it's not like it's just sterling
rosters we're dealing with. So without any further ado, it's
time for the Cardinals and Panthers Top ten. Walker. You
started it off last week. I will start this thing

(14:42):
off this week. And at number ten for Wes Bryant,
I go with Marvin Harrison Junior seventy one yards in
a scoring Week one, including a forty five yard catch.

Speaker 1 (14:53):
He had a seventy seven point seven overall.

Speaker 2 (14:55):
Grade as a Ricky last year, and I think that
Harrison seventy one yards in the bad start. He needs
sixty three in the OER format to get to one thousand,
so he's on pace to have a nice seasons.

Speaker 3 (15:05):
Marvin Harrison number ten as well. Look, yeah, now, if
you were to ask me before he played a single
game his rookie season, where do you think you're gonna
have Yeahson.

Speaker 1 (15:15):
The following season?

Speaker 3 (15:16):
Y yeah, probably would have thought to at least maybe
even number one. I think he was tabbed as that
kind of wide receiver where now you're talking about other
guys being clearly better than he is. Elak Neighbors clearly
had a better rookie season. Brian Thomas junior with Jacksonville,
who I had number one last week, clearly better than
what Marvin Harrison did.

Speaker 1 (15:36):
So I have some hope.

Speaker 3 (15:38):
I wonder if Marvin Harrison is going to be a
good wide receiver that's going to get a thousand yards,
but not the same type of player, but maybe DJ
Moore type production.

Speaker 1 (15:49):
You feel me on that, you think you'll get better?
I think so.

Speaker 2 (15:51):
I think Harrison's gonna be, like you said yesterday, a
really good receiver will be great.

Speaker 1 (15:56):
We'll see.

Speaker 2 (15:56):
They got to build a little bit better around him.
You know what I'm saying to be able to help
him out, because you also got to think. I mean,
when you look at advanced metrics on the guys around him,
it's not great. So he's gonna he's getting all the
coverage and he's getting the best corner every week too.
So but I think he's got still got a lot
of promise. Yeah, and I wasn't super high on him
coming out, not like that. No, I remember, because it

(16:18):
was it was like, oh my god, it was Jeremiah Smith's. Yeah,
feel the same way about Jeremiah Smith. Maserati Marve. He
goes at number ten, all right, number nine. Put him
in here, Walker Mall. You might be a little bit
surprised here, Dicey pick for me. But Derek Brown, I
put him in here. He's got two seasons of eighty
or better when you talk advanced metrics. But you know,
the last couple of games that he's played not great.

Speaker 1 (16:40):
There.

Speaker 2 (16:40):
Can he find his former form once again? Maybe he can,
Maybe he can't. But I got Derek Brown at number nine.

Speaker 1 (16:47):
Yeah, you're not gonna hear his name for a while
on my list. Okay, it's gonna let you know, Tuba
Hubbard coming in at number nine, The disrespect continued. Did
you not have him in last week? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (16:57):
I didn't have him in, and I'm sorry to me too.
To be honest, I don't like it. I really like
Juba Hubbard a lot. I thought he showed up to
play last week as much as possible. It's not like again,
if you want to get into the analytics of it,
which I need to stop saying that, I thought he
was good, and I thought he did as much as

(17:17):
he possibly could to help what was a bad offensive performance.
How about this just a real quick thing, you know
how he doesn't catch long passes at all. Had the
longest reception in the last three years in that Week
one performance against Jacksonville twenty seven yards. It's the longest
one that he's had and it's not like crazy long,
but it is for Cuba Hubbard.

Speaker 1 (17:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (17:36):
I value a lot of what Cuba does. I like
my running backs to be a little bit more well rounded.
But he's worth the contract. I like him on first
and second down. I think he's going to be worth
thirteen fourteen hundred yards this season as long as he
stays healthy.

Speaker 1 (17:48):
I'm a big fan.

Speaker 3 (17:49):
I apologize if nine does not illustrate that, but that's
where you come in on my list.

Speaker 1 (17:53):
I've got number eight, J C.

Speaker 2 (17:55):
Horn thirteenth and run defense twenty first and covers great.
In week one he had an and a pass breakup
as well. So give me the one of the highest
paid cornerbacks in all of football at number eight.

Speaker 1 (18:08):
It's gonna be wild before you hear his name on
this list. Just a little bit.

Speaker 3 (18:12):
I got Kyler Murray number eight. Okay, Maserati marv ten
tub of nine. I got Kyler eight. I'm interested to
see what the text line thinks about Kyler Murray. Let
us know where you think Kyler should be on this
top ten list just based off of phil. You don't
need to do all the research. I just want to
know based off of feel. I'm a Kyler fan. It's
starting to wane a little bit because I have made

(18:35):
a couple of comparisons between Kyler and Bryce based off
of feel. I don't know if Arizona knows truly how
far they want to go with him as their franchise quarterback.
He's clearly good. How good is he like? I clearly
somewhere top half and can give you top ten performances
quite a few weeks in a row. Does have a
playoff appearance with what he did a couple of years back.

(18:57):
The running is a great floor because he's a great run,
sure rocket arm all with that, I've got Kyler Murray eight.

Speaker 1 (19:03):
It felt right to me. I believe in him. It
is starting to win.

Speaker 2 (19:06):
We're not that far off because I have Kyler Murray
at number seventy at two touchdown passes last week and
then win over New Orleans and I was a little surprised,
but he was PFS eleventh highest offensive grade at quarterback
last season. He's got three seasons of eighty or better
during his career. He completed almost seventy percent of his throws.
He was at sixty eight point eight twenty six TDR

(19:28):
to eleven interceptions. I think he's another guy that we've
seen him at his apex when he does have a
pretty decent supporting cast, a playoff caliber supporting cast. But
he's another quarterback that I think if they get him
the proper weapons around him, the offense can really be
hell on wheels because of his running ability. I know
he looks like a three year old that just took

(19:48):
the remote control from you when he runs. But this
is a guy too that I think he needs more
support around him. He's got the tight end, he's got
the number one receiver, but can they put those ancillary
parts around him to bring out the talent, uh that
he's got.

Speaker 3 (20:03):
All right, Taylor Moton, welcome, You're number six on my
list or excuse me seven, Marvin ten, Tuba nine, kyler
A Taylor Moten number seven, uh one hundred percent past
block win rate in this last game against Jacksonville just
didn't allow really any pressures. I saw that unnecessary bluntness,
dunked on demand. Had that tweet, So shout out to
him for that statistical reference. The other thing that's interesting,

(20:26):
he was ninth in run block win rate on ESPN,
ninth among all tackles in the NFL. Yeah, Taylor Moten,
I wanted to put you up a little bit further,
but the sneaky decent players in my opinion, in this game.
So that's why I had Tailor Moton at seven.

Speaker 1 (20:40):
Big walk. Tell me what was this round? Black Gray
real quick from VF.

Speaker 3 (20:43):
I can tell you the one run block win rate.
You know what, you know what you can do with
pff man PFF is great. It's a great reference. I
actually really enjoy it.

Speaker 2 (20:55):
They do use it in NFL contract negotiations as well.

Speaker 1 (20:58):
Did you know that?

Speaker 4 (20:59):
No?

Speaker 3 (20:59):
Yeah, yeah I think they should. I think a general
good rule of thumb is check on the grades, use
it as a nice reference, and then dig into some
of the stats and you get to value it however
you want to, compared to how PFF do, which they
still value. Taylor Moton is the highest graded offensive player
on the Panthers last year, number one over all of them.

Speaker 1 (21:17):
Yeah, I'm just saying, I know that great.

Speaker 2 (21:19):
At number six, I'm going to show the proper respect
to the man that toats the rock, to the man
that had over twelve hundred yards rushing last year. Give
me Chuba Hubbard in there at number six, fifty seven
yards rushing in Week one, coming off a career year
this year right now, especially with the way this passing
game is looking, man, you know he's gonna need some
help if he's going to get back to that twelve

(21:40):
hundred or better. But he's a workhorse. He's a guy
that's tough. And the thing I like about him too,
you know, pretty durable guy.

Speaker 1 (21:45):
Man.

Speaker 2 (21:46):
Like I said, he said out the last couple of
games of last year with a little bit of an injury,
but for the most part, you can count on a
old shoober. I got Paris Johnson. How about a hit
of a draft pick for the Cardinals.

Speaker 1 (21:56):
There.

Speaker 3 (21:56):
I thought he was excellent last year, somebody that can
really protect and run block for the Arizona Cardinals. He
got off to a pretty decent start in Week two,
but really last year he was very well rounded. And
if you're a tackle that is well rounded and is
grading that high and is not allowing nearly as many pressures,
and I'll say this too, I think Kyler Murray is
actually a hard quarterback to block four because he's always

(22:17):
running around. You don't know if you need to block
your guy to where Kyler's stepping up in the pocket
because he's so sure. Yeah, he loves to escape the pocket,
which I'm sure that they have their communication down, but
I would feel like him escaping the pocket is a
little harder to block for him than other qbs. I
gave Paris Johnson a little bit more of a bump
because of that, despite the longer experience with Taylor Moten.

(22:38):
But Paris looks like one of the better young tackles
in the league.

Speaker 2 (22:40):
All right at number five, give me the ageless Wonder
Kalaius Campbell. He's been at eighty or better in each
of the last two seasons, and he has nine seasons
of eighty or better scoring from PFF during his eighteen seasons.
He was a top twenty run of in Week one.

(23:01):
Kalleas Campbell man just a cat that you can plug
in and you know that he is going to be
rock solid. I wondered why or if the Panthers would
have gone after Khalais Campbell.

Speaker 1 (23:11):
Maybe it was the age.

Speaker 2 (23:12):
I'm not sure, but when you talk about a good,
solid run defender that's gonna play fundamentally sound, LEAs Campbell's
a guy.

Speaker 3 (23:21):
He also sounds like the Cookie Monster, and I love
Kalais Campbell's sounding like the cookie Monster coming in at
number five for me. Josh Sweat Josh Wett, I think
was almost a victim of how well he played last
year and how well he played in the postseason. He's
actually just given you above seven sacks every year really

(23:42):
for the last four or five seasons, seven, nine, thirteen, eight.
Just a consistent pass rusher that's also decent against the run,
but really more so a better pass rusher. They went
out and got him because of that. John gannon fit
and he got a lot of money this season for
what he did in Philadelphia last year. I think, just
not a how hold name, but really consistent ed rusher

(24:02):
that we could damn Suore Hughes over here in Carolina.
Longer tenured player than I remembered as well, like I
thought it was like a fifth year player or something.
Josh Sweat comes in in my top five. I've got
Pairs Johnson Junior here. He was a top twelve tackle
last year according to Advanced Metrics, thirteenth highest rated this year,
and the league's third best pass blocker in Week one.

(24:25):
So yeah, big fan of Pairs Johnson Junior, as you
said out there at that left tackle position out of
the Ohio State, really really good young piece for them.

Speaker 1 (24:34):
I have j C.

Speaker 3 (24:35):
Horn number four. How Come every time I look at j. C.
Horn getting targeted, there's just a bad QBR. There's not
many receptions given up, there's not many yards given up,
and I know the grade. I get the grade, and
it was good against Jacksonville, But every time, especially with
a play like that go turn the ball over, man,
that's what you did on what should have been a
touchdown pass. It actually wasn't all that bad of a throw.

(24:57):
Travis Hunter was wide open and he could just taking
it for a touchdown.

Speaker 1 (25:01):
It's just j C.

Speaker 3 (25:02):
Horn saw an opportunity in Rose above got us a
one handed interception athletic.

Speaker 1 (25:07):
It was crazy and the.

Speaker 3 (25:08):
Only reception he gave up was a seven yard reception
to traves Etn out of the backfield. I just I
think j C. Horn is really valuable to this team.
And shout out to Mike Jack, who I toured with
getting in the top ten, but he's just on the outside.

Speaker 2 (25:22):
Jac Horn comes in at number four. I see Jack
on the text line time. My Collais at five, but
Derek Brown and nine. Go check the analytics.

Speaker 1 (25:29):
He's been a.

Speaker 2 (25:29):
Better player over the course of his career and the
last two seasons. I know Derek Brown had some injuries,
all right, So moving on, we are at number three.

Speaker 1 (25:39):
One of my favorite players in the NFL.

Speaker 2 (25:41):
I do like this Guy's not like I sit and
just watch tons and tons of him play, but every
time I do see him play, he plays the game
how you want it to be.

Speaker 1 (25:48):
Played, and that is Buddha Baker.

Speaker 2 (25:50):
He had ten tackles last week with a tackle for
loss and a pass defended in week one. Eleventh highest
pass coverage grade also as well. But this is a
guy that just flies around with reckless abandon He's gonna
hit you, He's going to get back there in coverage.
He's just one of those wild men out there on
a football field.

Speaker 1 (26:07):
So I've got Boodha Banker at number three.

Speaker 3 (26:09):
I don't know who it was that talked about Derek Brown,
but I got you right here. Derek Brown coming in
at number three. Yeah, grade wasn't great for PFF. I
went back and watched it. I watched a lot of
what the trenches did just to get a feel and
on how they were attacking this off to the defensive line. Yeah,
they were running away from him constantly. Now it's not
like he got a lot of penetration on the other side,

(26:31):
but wherever Derek Brown was, a lot of time Travis
Etn was running to the other side. He did have
the second most amount of defensive stops period among all
defensive linemen last week at number four. I forget who
had five, but he was second on that list. The
read and the recognition of understanding a Travis Hunter screen
is coming because they don't block you. Obleep, I need
to go tackle Travis Hunter, who is as fast a

(26:53):
jitterbug as there is. Boom hits his cleats with just
one paw and Travis Hunter gets tackled because of the recognition.
I still think he's an awesome football player. The last
two years that he played in full he was awesome.
Give me Derek Brown at number three, all right, number
two for me.

Speaker 2 (27:09):
James Connor top five in advanced mestrics each of the
last two seasons, and when you want to go to
the raw numbers and you're talking about this guy was
eighty nine and ninety in each of the last two seasons,
over twenty seven hundred yards from scrimmage and eighteen scores
the last two seasons. Even though he's a big back,
he can still get out there and catch the football

(27:30):
and make it happen. ACC legend out of Pitt former
ACC Player of the Year.

Speaker 3 (27:36):
James Connor is my number two guy. I'll be honest
with you. I didn't put him in here and that
was an oversight.

Speaker 1 (27:42):
Oh yeah, it happens. It happens because you know what,
I'm dumping there with you. I won't let you be
out there on that boat.

Speaker 2 (27:47):
I had to go back through because when I reviewed,
because I didn't want to miss anybody, So I went
back through everybody once looked through and I said, oh snap,
I forgot my man, James Connor.

Speaker 1 (27:56):
I forgot James Connor. It's all good. That's disrespect.

Speaker 3 (27:59):
If I were too real just this, I would have
Marvin on his way out. Tuba would be ten. Where
I would put James Connor based off of the read
and reaction that you're seeing right now, m in between
j C. Horn and Josh Webb. He'll be top five,
be the fifth best player. I do respect him, maybe
ahead of JC Horn, but I have to do more research.

Speaker 1 (28:20):
I'm disrespectful, but it's okay.

Speaker 3 (28:22):
Running backs don't matter, you know how to play it.
Buddha Baker is number two. I just I was worried
for a minute if you were going to have Buddha Bacon.
I was like, wow, Now, Buddha Baker, How fun of
a football player is he? Whatever you need, whatever you
need from Buddha Baker, he does at least at replacement level.

(28:44):
He can go anywhere and be average. He can go
anywhere and be elite at different times. Just how do
you want to use Buddha Baker? I think he's an
awesome player. You could put him number one, and I'd
be cool with it just because of like how how
many things he fixes? I would Yeah, I love Buddha,
especially at that You're right a little fireball as well.

(29:04):
Just put them wherever. I think the versatility is massive.
I value that a ton in the NFL. So give
me Budda Baker.

Speaker 2 (29:10):
Yeah, he's a guy too, man that you know this
defense improves and they get better pieces around him too,
He's gonna shine even more. And at number one, even
though I don't love his run block, but Trey McBride
one hundred and eleven catches last season for eleven hundred
and forty six yards, only two touchdowns. But this is
a guy that you know when you talk about in
this game, and with those types of numbers, he's certainly

(29:31):
going to be offensive focus number one for Agio Averro
and this defense that coming off a week where the
Jaguars tight ends were able to eat and feast on
the Carolina Panthers linebackers and safeties. So you already know
that Trey McBride. His eyes got real big, and he
said he is going to channel Tray Kwan so that
he can get out here and get the job done

(29:52):
for the cards.

Speaker 3 (29:52):
I was going to ask it that Trey Kwan is
number one for sure. Yes, I'm just gonna go ahead
and put Trey McBride up here at number one. Also, yeah,
he was the one. And when you start a list
and you just start to put down some of the
names that you feel are going to be at the top,
he's the first name that I wrote down and after
further review, yup, he's just going to stay atop the list.
It's real simple for me. Are you a top two

(30:13):
or three player at your position, then you get the
benefit of the doubt. And Trey McBride is that in
the last couple of years. And maybe isn't as famous
as some of the other tight ends, but he's been
better than Travis Kelsey the last couple of years. With
Kelsey getting older, he's been better in my Yeah, George
Kittle is just an absolute beast. You just injured, but
I love Kittle with talk about versatility. I think he's

(30:33):
just a freaking monster. McBride as a mismatch is hell
to try to cover, and it's going to be hell
in my opinion, and we two for the Panthers to
try it. I think it will be Trey McBride. That's
the reason. Trey Kwan, whatever you want to call him,
he's number one. All right, folks, that was our top ten.

Speaker 2 (30:50):
Let us know what you think on the FanDuel of
text line five to seven, ninety six to ten when
we come back, fire or fizzle. Great main Athletes on
Sports Ready on ninety two seven w FNZ.

Speaker 1 (31:16):
It's hot in here.

Speaker 3 (31:18):
So that DeAngelo we were playing earlier in the show,
got a hose us down. That was a weird intro,
but we moved on. It's Watson Walker Sports Radio ninety
two to seven WFNZ. Who are the greatest meanest athletes
of all time? We were talking about some really angry
men yesterday and we thought, you know what, thanks to

(31:39):
m Dog, who we should give credit to, We'll just
go ahead and give the people what they want. And
coaches slash coaches slash coaches as well. Yeah, just anybody,
just the meanest cusses, you know, and sport we're gonna
be talking about that's right.

Speaker 1 (31:52):
Thanks to m Dog for the suggestion Number.

Speaker 3 (31:54):
One might be the scariest person in sports history. Maybe
Mike Tyson was firefyicle, extraordinary handspeak, raw knockout power, coming
into the ring with the black shorts and boots, never smiling,
giving you that unnerving icy glare.

Speaker 2 (32:14):
His punches when you talk force near eighteen hundred pounds
per square inch one of his first nineteen professional fights
by knockout twelve of them in the first round. What
also makes him means well well biting Evander Holyfield's ear
in a nineteen ninety seven rematch, his wild brawl with

(32:34):
Lennox Lewis's bodyguards at a press conference, and who could forget?
I know some of you are too young to remember
in this room myself included his street fight with Mitch
Green that resulted in a fractured wrist and a swollen
eye for Green. When you talk Mike Tyson coming out
into the ring, simplicity and fear is what he entered

(32:56):
it with, and more than likely your body laying on
the canvas is what he left with. He's built himself
quite a career since then and has become one of
America's most lovable figures, even though you know that that
tiger is still in there somewhere, and he once owned
a tiger when he was getting all that bread. But
Mike Tyson has start this thing off. Greatest mean athletes

(33:19):
coaches in sports history? Mike Tyson, Hey, straight fire, where
did you think this was going?

Speaker 1 (33:25):
He also punched Alan right in the face and dropped
him in the hangover.

Speaker 3 (33:28):
That's right, he sure did. Genuinely one of the scariest
human beings to ever walk the earth, Mike Tyson. We
start off with a fire number two, Draymond Green, Yes,
Draymond mean firefil like that one.

Speaker 2 (33:43):
Well, let's start with his indefinite suspension for striking youself.
Nurkice struck the man in the face while failing his arm.
Flailing his arm during a game led to an unprecedent,
unprecedented indefinite suspension by the NBA, which cited his repeat.

Speaker 1 (34:00):
History of unsportsmen like that.

Speaker 2 (34:02):
Just weeks before that, he was suspended for putting Rudy
Gobert in a headlock when he claims that he was
trying to be a peacemaker. Among his other highlights of
being a mean athlete, knocking out Jordan Poole kicking Lebron
James in the NBA Finals got KD pretty much out
of town by arguing with him and calling him the

(34:22):
word that rhymes with itch. Draymond Green will go down
as a Mount Rushmore NBA bad boy with the likes
of Dennis Rodman, and you can take your pick of
several others Isaiah Thomas, There's so many that can go
on this list, But to me, Draymond Green maybe number one.
When it's all said and done. If we didn't have TMZ,

(34:44):
maybe we never get to see that knockout of Jordan
Poole and practice.

Speaker 1 (34:48):
But who knows.

Speaker 2 (34:49):
We know that MG and several others have attacked some
of their teammates, but Draymond Green nobody does it better
when it comes to NBA bad boy crowd billing.

Speaker 1 (34:59):
Draymond Green fire.

Speaker 3 (35:01):
I love the dumb really thought that was going Fizzle
would have put a lot of money down that you
were gonna go straight physical times you gotta let a
team ain't know what time it is. Raymond Green does
knock him across as the guy that you usually pulled for.
So I was prosed about I'm a dub's gud Man.

Speaker 2 (35:16):
So you know, I like Draymond and then you're talking
to Wes Bryan, a guy who got excited when when
an opponent would try something dirty because that gave me
a free pass in my mind to do it back
to him. So if I played basketball, I wouldn't be
quite like Draymond Green, but I probably would be looked
at as somewhat of an enforcer that could hoop go
and get buckets.

Speaker 3 (35:36):
I would hope that you wouldn't be as illigical as
Draymond Some now as logical, i'd be lit out there. Okay,
two fires. I know where this one is going because
we've talked about this man before.

Speaker 1 (35:48):
Bobby Knight.

Speaker 3 (35:48):
Oh my, So within the sake of just being mean,
I think he's number one on the list.

Speaker 1 (35:54):
He might be fire Fizzle.

Speaker 2 (35:55):
Three NCAA Championships nineteen seventy six, undefeated thirty two no season,
n title, nineteen eighty four, Olympic gold medal. He's one
of only three coaches to achieve the triple crown, winning
the NCAA title, NT title and Olympic goal. But he's
also throwing a chair across the court during the nineteen

(36:15):
eighty five game against Purdue, choked the player during the
nineteen ninety seven practice that was caught on video, and
the two thousand incident where he grabbed a student on campus,
which ultimately led to his firing from Indiana University. There
was also an alleged punch of a policeman at the
nineteen seventy nine pan Am Games.

Speaker 1 (36:33):
You get it.

Speaker 2 (36:34):
Bobby Knight, the press conferences, the things that he has said,
the things that he has done, he might be the
ultimate mean coach.

Speaker 1 (36:41):
Maybe we need to do a mean.

Speaker 2 (36:43):
Coaches segment, but when you talk about mean athlete slash coaches,
there's none meaner than Bobby Knight. And for that reason,
Bobby Knight is straight fizzle. Let's get him to hell
out of here. Yeah, you don't ever put his hands
on me with scrapping.

Speaker 3 (36:57):
There's plenty more incidents with Bobby Knight, one hundred percent
all straight fizzle. Those aren't even fun things that you
just mentioned, right, the Draymond Green stuff, there's comedy.

Speaker 1 (37:05):
Yes, I don't know what the comedy. I get a
good laugh out.

Speaker 2 (37:08):
Of Draymond Green incidents when they put together those compilations
all of the time.

Speaker 1 (37:13):
Number four best name of all time.

Speaker 3 (37:16):
Possibly Dick buckis the name snarling at you just upon
hearing it.

Speaker 2 (37:23):
Yes, fire fizzle, I mean this man was a six
time All Pro, two time NFL Defensive Player of the Year,
an eight time Pro bowler. But then we have events
like during a nineteen sixty nine preseason brawl against the Dolphins,
referee Red Morecraft ejected Buckis, accusing him of biting his finger.
The man bit the referees finger. In another game, Buckers

(37:46):
was accused of biting an opposing center's leg. In a
game against the Detroit Lions, running back Alt Taylor stepped
out of bounds to avoid a hit from Buckers. Buckers
chase Taylor along the sideline and into the stands, and
Taylor told a teammate that man is crazy. In another
game against the Detroit Lions, he had an affinity for

(38:07):
the Lions. He knocked every member of the Lions' I formation, center, quarterback,
four back, and half back out of the game with
his tackles. He once called two timeouts in the final
minute of a game his team was losing to give
himself more chances to take tea cheap shots at an
opposing at a center. That is the best thing you

(38:29):
may have ever said here. He loved to mix it
up with guys after the play. He was the definition
of a dirty football player, but also a baller. He
is the definition of a guy that you would love
to have him on your team, but you would hate
to see this man coming. Dick Buckis when you put
together an NFL linebacker, if you were to dream up
what you want an NFL Mike linebacker to be, it

(38:51):
would be this man rough, tough, and tumble, and he's
going to bring it. Because he was an All Pro
Hall of Famer all of these things. Dick Buckins could
play on my team day of the week. Here is
the great fire all day on.

Speaker 3 (39:03):
Short of learning the history on how chocolate chip cookies
were invented, this fact toid about Dick Budkis calling timeouts
just to inflict further pain at the end of a
game is one of my favorite fact toys you've ever brought.
Fact toys you've ever brought anywhere.

Speaker 1 (39:19):
I like running the guy into the stands.

Speaker 2 (39:20):
Could you imagine that if somebody did that, or a
player being so afraid of a guy that he allowed
him to I'm cutting that running back on the spot
for allowing him to run you into the stands.

Speaker 1 (39:30):
Thank you for that information. I love that. You know
it one more? Uh?

Speaker 3 (39:34):
Oh, you see that in the rear view mirror. Yeah, man,
start shaking in your boot. It's the Intimidator. Yeah, it's
Dale Earnhard. Oh yeah, is he Fireficer?

Speaker 2 (39:42):
You know I had to keep it Carolina up in
here for the last installment of fire Fizzle. That black
number three Chevrolet, the ominous signature black car contributed to
this persona especially for handy driver. I saw it in
their rearview mirrorcar. Winston Cup Championships seventy six race wins,

(40:04):
but among some of his more infamous moments the nineteen
eighty seven pass in the grass trailing Bill Elliott at
the NASCAR All Star Race, when his car slid onto
the infield grass on the final lap. He managed to
keep the car from spinning, using the grass to stay
on the lead lap and ultimately win the race that
earned him the nickname the Intimidator. The nineteen ninety nine

(40:25):
Bristol Knight Race, white flag waving, earn Hart got bumper
to bumper with Terry Labonte and spun him out. Earn
Hart then took the lead and won the race, a
controversial move seen by many as overly aggressive. Well, if
Dale had a middle name, it might be aggressive because
when you talk about one of the true true legends
of the sport, just a nasty, dirty dog as much

(40:49):
as you could be riding in a car, Bill Earnhart,
if we close out this fire, Fizzle Cannaples, you stand up,
hudd up.

Speaker 5 (40:56):
Right now for the intimidator, Bill iron Hart closing.

Speaker 1 (41:01):
This thing out because he has the rape fire.

Speaker 5 (41:04):
Let's get it swappy. Turn to music off before any
of these man come after you. Raise Hail for Dale, Baby,
Raise Hall for Dale. Poor Napolis k Tan, pour out
your son. Drop this one's for you Dale. Already that
was great.

Speaker 3 (41:20):
I loved every bit of that, and I would like
to recap that as soon as we come back.

Speaker 1 (41:24):
Don't go anywhere.

Speaker 3 (41:24):
We got one more hour to go, which Weston Walker
Sports Radio ninety two to seven WFNZ rights out for Dale.

Speaker 1 (41:30):
