Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the Wes and Walker show. This is Wes.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
I mean, seriously, this happened twenty seconds ago, and then
Wes just decides in the distance to give us this
kind of show cry to start off.

Speaker 1 (00:12):
It's Wes, let's go, baby, let's go.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
And Walker out of nowhere. I mean, I looked like
a pansy to be honest with you.

Speaker 3 (00:19):
Only on Sports Radio ninety two point seven FM WFNZ.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
That he said that scared me. I said that scared
the bleep out of me. I Wes and Walker Backsports
Radio ninety two to seven WFNZ. Thanks for joining us

(00:47):
here in the midday. We'll be with you until three pm,
and then Kyle Bailey takes over from three to six o'clock.
We're broadcasting live from the Chandler Vaulta Studios. CV Injury
Law dot Com, CV Injurylaw dot Com. One call. That's
all the Carol A personal injury lawyers. Since we are
visiting the campus corner here. In just a moment, I
thought that we would talk about some of the wilder
bars because of some stuff that I saw on Twitter.

(01:09):
I don't even know how we got on that conversation.
I'm not exactly sure.

Speaker 4 (01:13):
We never know how we get on some of the
g That's.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
Kind of how it is around here, Nascar. Mike said,
Bar Charlotte. Yes, Bar Charlotte used to be pretty wild.
I've been there, I think a couple times, but that
was when I was like barely in college, I mean
a freshman sophomore year, and I think Bar Charlotte was
one of those like eighteen and up, and so I
didn't really do anything and I just was standing uncomfortable
in the corner and not really mixing it up. That

(01:37):
was my experience at Bar Charlotte. But yes, I do
remember it getting kind of wild seven oh four five,
seven oh ninety six ten. What's funny is there are
people talking about how they used to work at some
of these clubs, and that those are the stories I
want to hear, because you know they've seen some things.
Man working at Suite, working at south Side, If you

(01:58):
work security at Bar Charlott, I know you have seen
some things. Because especially if you're talking about working borderline
every weekend, then you just had such a large sample size.
I know you had to throw a bunch of wild
people out. I know you saw a bunch of wild things.
I would love I would read a book of security guards,
security bouncers all coming together, writing a Charlotte Bar experience book.

(02:22):
Just give me a coffee table book like I would.
I would love to read every single story that you
guys had, with all the experiences that you've had in that.

Speaker 4 (02:31):
I would like to live vicariously through other people.

Speaker 1 (02:36):
Okay, because you're not going out as the thing. Yeah yeah, yah, yeah, yeah, we.

Speaker 2 (02:38):
Need We talk about this all the time and it's
just us two and then it feels like somebody's holding
you back. We did go to Sycamore once, That's right,
that did happen, and we have we gotta go back.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
We gotta go back. We do Sycamore. What a great time, man.

Speaker 2 (02:51):
You got noticed a couple of times I'm telling y'all
by by mail listeners. Well, that's kind of the demographic
around here. You don't you don't talk about sports and
expect to have everybody else listen to you and fall
all over themselves to talk with you. Yeah, it's look
the demographic, the target demographic for the most part, men

(03:12):
twenty five through fifty four.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
That's kind of how it is in sports radio.

Speaker 5 (03:16):
So you know, one woman couldn't recognize me well, or
you know, as people like to compliment me on whenever
I order food. This has happened multiple times where I've
ordered food through the drive through and they say, have
you ever thought.

Speaker 4 (03:31):
About being in radio or TV?

Speaker 5 (03:33):
Your voice definitely sounds like it should be, And I'm like,
you know what I am?

Speaker 2 (03:38):
You know, I always get subconscious about that too, because
I'm like, do I am I performing? I don't want
to perform. The thing I do for radio is I
enunciate maybe a little bit more and I speak with
more volume, that's for sure. But I try not to
give you a radio voice compared to my natural voice,
because then it just seems like you're putting on and
I don't want to do that. There are people that
will provide a radio voice, and it's what I said

(04:00):
Walker on Sports Radio ninety two to seven WFNZ, and
now I just said, like I sound like Kent Brockman.
I just want to sound like Walker Mail and not
pulled on a different voice for you. So I don't
know when they say, yeah, you could work in radio,
thank you for the compliment. Also, I hope you don't
think this is performative. Seven oh four, five, seven oh

(04:20):
ninety six ten Dixie's Tavern is getting a lot of love.
Vinnie's is getting some love here on the text line,
if you know, you know, Marquee says they've seen the
drunkest people in their life at Ali Katz Ali Kats
with a Z too. You know it's wild there. You
put a Z for an s. I already know what
time it is, payday all day, says. I used to
do security for the Bank of America Corporate Center, and

(04:43):
when they were building the brand new glass building, I
did security outside of FitzGeralds.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
Yep.

Speaker 2 (04:48):
I saw some drunk people outside the bar and it
was pretty wild every night midnight to six am. Rip
FitzGeralds too, Man, that was a great spot, great spot.
FitzGeralds was all right, let's actually at the campus Kona
rather than some of the bars here around the Queens City.
Hit at Floundy. It's time for the campus count of
wall crowd. Wednesday. I'll give you pretty good. You had

(05:14):
the volume there felt good, It felt good. It felt
much better than yesterday. Monday was better than Tuesday. I
feel like Wednesday has been the best day. We got
two more days to knock it out of the park.
The college football playoff rankings here flound. Just go ahead
and give me your overall thoughts on what you've seen
from what the rankings are acc SEC bias. You have
as many problems as Colin Hoggard does after talking about

(05:36):
it on Charlott's Boys Set do not. I do not
the Miami problem being the biggest issues.

Speaker 5 (05:41):
I almost want to whisper that, Yeah, I mean, the
thing is is that who are you going to put
him in over? I mean, if you look at how
the themes are playing right now, I think that Miami.
You could make the argument for Notre Dame because they
have the win on the field over them. I certainly
think that's the argument that needs to be made.

Speaker 1 (06:03):
But at the.

Speaker 5 (06:04):
Same time, you look at Miami. Who is Miami beaten? Nobody?
Absolutely nobody outside of Notre Dame.

Speaker 1 (06:13):
That's kind of the one though.

Speaker 5 (06:14):
That's kind of the one, right, and that's the reason
that you're you're able to have the argument. But I believe,
based on what I've seen here as the season has
gone along, that if you replayed that game at a
neutral site, even if you played it in Coral Gables,
I think that Notre Dame wins that game.

Speaker 1 (06:32):
Now, that's the thing.

Speaker 5 (06:33):
We're getting into hypotheticals, So that's where people start to
have a little bit of trouble. The one that didn't
make any sense to me is how in the world
did Bama move up to number nine and basically secure
their spot in the College Football Playoff. It's pretty close,
Like I think, even if they lose to Georgia, there's
a chance they actually end up making this field.

Speaker 4 (06:54):
Still, I look, I get it.

Speaker 5 (06:57):
They've got wins over Georgia, who's still ranked, Erbilt, who's
still ranked in Tennessee, who I believe is still ranked.

Speaker 1 (07:03):
If not, they are just on the outside looking in.

Speaker 5 (07:08):
I don't think they should be securely in the College
Football Playoff And the reasoning that they gave last night
was because they put up a spirited effort in the
second half against Auburn.

Speaker 1 (07:19):
Auburn stinks man.

Speaker 5 (07:22):
So to me, that's if you are Miami, the scenario
that you're hoping plays out is that BYU loses to
Texas Tech.

Speaker 1 (07:33):
That's gotta happen.

Speaker 5 (07:34):
BYU wins, both of those teams are going to the
College Football Playoff, because there's no way they're leaving a
team that's currently fourth in Texas Tech out of the
College Football Playoff, Nor should they then you need Georgia
to beat Alabama, because then if Alabama gets knocked out
of the field, then you will be that next team up.

(07:54):
Now Fitty thinks that if they do end up knocking
Alabama out of the field, they might do it for Texas.
That would be when I would take a pretty strong
stance towards the ACC needs to be in.

Speaker 4 (08:09):
We talk about bad losses.

Speaker 5 (08:11):
Miami's losses are not great. Louisville not anywhere near as
good as we thought they were at the time that
that game happened.

Speaker 1 (08:20):
Yeah, SMU not a.

Speaker 5 (08:22):
Great loss really either, especially after they got beat by Cal.
But I think that loss is better than losing to Florida.
Texas loss to Florida, and you're telling me that team
would get a chance to play for a national championship.

Speaker 1 (08:38):
I don't think that's right.

Speaker 5 (08:39):
So hopefully for Miami the situation works out the way
it does and we can get Notre Dame and them
both in the College Football Playoff, because I think they.

Speaker 1 (08:48):
Both deserve to be in there.

Speaker 2 (08:49):
I think my issue is I remember having a conversation
about this with David Hale a few years ago. He
is the ACC writer for ESPN dot com. I believe
David Hale and Andrea Aedelson do the best job. I
think it's the best hand ofment Riders podcast.

Speaker 1 (09:02):
They're so good.

Speaker 2 (09:02):
But anyways, David Hale was talking about when they were
going to implement the twelve team playoff system, how they
were still going to find a way to finagle the
rankings to keep some of these ACC teams and or
group of five teams out of the playoff altogether, except
for allowing maybe just one to sneak into the top twelve.
And the reason I remember it is because a few

(09:24):
years ago. You can help me pinpoint this a little
bit more here Flounder, Carolina. Do you remember when they
finished the season the regular season ranked twelfth and they
would have been the last team in the playoff if
I'm not mistaken. A couple of years ago it was
either that or thirteenth. And I remember talking with him
about it, saying, Hey, is there going to be a
better chance for some of these types of schools to
get into the top twelve and find themselves in the tournament?

(09:46):
He says no, because the committee is going to find
a way to fix the criteria, to force those teams
on the outside looking in and finagle the system, to
implement more SEC squads and to implement some bigger brand
names and find themselves and get those teams into the
Big twelve and so excuse me, into the twelve team playoff.

(10:06):
So now are we doing this again where you have Miami.
Miami has two losses, they have a head to head victory.
The thing to me that's interesting that I haven't fully
felt like this has been addressed.

Speaker 1 (10:20):
It's not like Miami is some small brand.

Speaker 3 (10:23):
Now.

Speaker 2 (10:23):
It's not like Miami is some school that is whatever
low brand you want to talk about. Miami is a
big money making school that is a brand that is
highly recognizable. You would think that even just by that,
that the College Football Playoff would allow them in over
some of these other schools. But it's SEC bias, it's
Notre Dame bias. And now you're talking about Miami. That's

(10:45):
where the argument starts to unfold a little bit more.
Is not having Miami included when Miami is a big brand,
so you think that would be beneficial to having them
in as well. Look, I have been one in previous
years to reluctantly side on the side of the SEC.
But it does get a little walky man when you

(11:07):
have a similar strength to schedule between Notre Dame and
Miami and you're saying that the Week one result doesn't
matter with Miami having beaten Notre Dame and still finding
themselves a couple of spots behind Notre Dame simply because
of the way that it looks. So now, really the
question becomes, do you want to go back to the
computers to where the computers have a system that they
calculate all of this with or do you truly want

(11:28):
some subjectivity? And if that happens, then we're always going
to have these issues every single second.

Speaker 5 (11:34):
I'm look, I'm a guy that when it comes to
the computers, I didn't think the computers were necessarily the
biggest issue. I thought the issue was that the playoff
was not big enough. You had two teams that played
for a national championship. It was that simple. They picked
the two teams that played. You played in a neutral location.

Speaker 4 (11:51):
There you go.

Speaker 5 (11:52):
I didn't think that the computers were necessarily the worst
because you do have to factor in. In my mind,
you really do have to factor in who is playing
the best football at that time. And I think right
now I would lean Notre Dame over Miami. But it's
tough because I don't want to devalue head to head.
But it goes back to who goes into the field

(12:15):
the twelve most deserving teams or the twelve best teams.
I think that's the thing that we have to come
to terms with. And you could say, well, you know,
the group of five teams shouldn't be in there because
they're not one of the best teams. I like the
fact that conference championships matter. That makes this week that's
coming up very intriguing because a team like Virginia could

(12:38):
lock themselves in. Now, I look at Virginia and I
don't say that team doesn't deserve to play for a title.

Speaker 1 (12:44):
I wouldn't care if they played.

Speaker 5 (12:45):
They're gonna I think they're gonna get beat in the
first round anyways. I think ole Miss will probably take
care of them because that's who it's likely that they're
gonna have to play. But I mean, you know, you
never really know, and I think I think with Virginia,
that's a team that's worth putting in. Same thing with
whoever wins the American Like those teams had pretty good seasons,

(13:06):
why would you not have a way for them to
get in? And involves everybody in college football. But yeah,
I mean with the other spots, when it's the at
large spots, I think it's it's the best teams at this.

Speaker 4 (13:20):
Point in the season.

Speaker 5 (13:20):
And I believe that Notre Name is better than Miami
at this point this season.

Speaker 2 (13:24):
All right, it's wesn. Walker Sports Radio ninety two to
seven WFNZ. We'll get back to the professional side of things.
Who are the Panthers that are most deserving of some
awards this year? Comeback Player of the Year, Bryce Shaw,
Derek Brown, Dan Morgan, Executive of the Year Dave Canallis
Coach of the Year. Who deserves it more? Between those two,
we'll tell you our thoughts on the other side of

(13:45):
the break here on Sports Radio ninety two to seven FM,

(14:06):
trying to figure out the college football playoff situation, talking
college basketball here as well on Wes and Walker. No
Wes by the way, I had some people writing in
on the pandul text line, Hey where is Wes? Where's
your co host? If you didn't hear the last couple
of days. He is taking this entire week off. He
is expected back next week. Every single day, just taking
some time off everybody. I know people are worried about him.

(14:29):
I don't feel like I've heard that sound by it
as many times.

Speaker 1 (14:31):
Oh yeah, now.

Speaker 5 (14:32):
We're trying to work this in. We're trying to work
this in a little bit. I know people really like
the classic. Oh hell no, that's a great one, but
this one I think has legs.

Speaker 2 (14:42):
Yeah it does, No, it does. It's when where anybody
is confused. We can play that. I would love to
know when he said that, but he sounds really confused.

Speaker 5 (14:51):
Yes, this is an old SoundBite too, because these have
been in here for a while, so this would have
to I would imagine involve something from Fitty.

Speaker 2 (15:01):
How do you think he's feeling today after watching wake
Forest lose by almost twenty to Oklahoma.

Speaker 5 (15:07):
You know exactly what he would say, You would say, Walker,
this is just what wake Forest does.

Speaker 2 (15:13):
No, you're right, you can let us know too. On
the Fandel text line, what you think he would say.
I know what he would say say, I knew they
were going to do it. Yeah, exactly exactly. This is
what Wes does. Wes will say, with any of his
favorite teams that are about to suffer a pretty painful loss,
he's going to tell you the moment he knew what
was going to happen and that they weren't going to
come back. This is going to happen for Wake Forest

(15:34):
in the second half. As soon as they fell down
four or whatever, or this play happened, he said, I knew,
and then he immediately cuts off emotional ties so he
doesn't hurt himself anymore. And it's a great coping mechanism.
And that's not even sarcasm. It's great coping because he
has to salvage himself some sort of some sort of
decent feeling with the way that Wake loses these types

(15:55):
of games every single year under Steve Forbes. And you
know they're going to be the seventieth team at the
end of the season, and it's gonna be hard because
you had these games that you had the chance, you
had the chance to win. Myron Goodman said it earlier.
Wake Forest might be in trouble. Yeah, they really might.
And I don't want it to happen. I want Wake
to be good. I want Steve Forbes to be good.

(16:17):
I love who the dude is. He's such a fun guy.
Love hearing him talk. I think he's smart. At some point,
you got to make the tournament, and they just don't
seem to be doing so they're laying the groundwork to
miss it again this year.

Speaker 5 (16:31):
This has to be the year, right If he doesn't
make it, I think you've got a look to move
on because you're on the precipice of making it every
single year. So I don't really see how this year
is going to be any different. They went out, they
got some guys out of the transfer portal. I mean, look,
you don't have an Alndas Williams. I have someone that's

(16:54):
just taking over the conference. But you still have good
enough players where you feel like this team should be
competing to potentially make the NCAA tournament.

Speaker 4 (17:02):
So they got to turn it around.

Speaker 5 (17:05):
Man, They're gonna have to find some wins in the
ACC now again. One thing that I do think we
saw last night and hopefully we'll see again tonight, is
that the ACC is gonna provide you with more opportunities
this year. You know you are gonna have a Sarah Hues,
who I think is gonna be better. I think and
I thought this when they made the higher because I

(17:25):
like the Jie Lucas higher.

Speaker 4 (17:27):
I think Miami's gonna be dangerous.

Speaker 5 (17:29):
I think they could be a team if you because
they've had talent the last few years.

Speaker 1 (17:33):
For some reason, it just didn't click with Larynega.

Speaker 5 (17:37):
If it clicks this year, don't be shocked if that's
a team that's right there when it comes bubble time
and we're talking about the ACC teams on the bubble.

Speaker 4 (17:45):
So I mean, for Forbes, it feels important.

Speaker 3 (17:48):
Man.

Speaker 5 (17:48):
You gotta get this thing turned around. And that one
last night really stung.

Speaker 1 (17:52):
Other than Wake, it was a strong night for the ACC.

Speaker 2 (17:54):
Everybody else did what they were expected to do or
even pulling off the upset. In Syracuse's Okay, Syracuse ends
up beating Tennessee. The volunteers were ranked thirteen than the
Orange take care of business at home, winning by just
a couple of points. But a win is a win
is a win, and the ACC that are up six'
three in THE ACC sec challenge more games tonight to

(18:16):
figure out what conference will come out on. Top Deacon,
donna writing in fandal text, line there's a class in
that sport expectation detachment at. Wake, yeah you have to
take it if you're going to be awake for a sports,
fan got to detach from everything as much as possible
to save some of the pain that you might feel
if you didn't take that. Class Deacon donna Wes, Bryant

(18:37):
i'm sure that they are well versed in that class
and all the lessons that come with. It let's talk
about who deserves the most. Awards what awards they deserve
here on The panthers, Roster executive of The, Year coach
of The. Year really it's just who is most deserving
within their. CATEGORY i want to start With Comeback player
of The year BECAUSE i think everybody made a collective
sound When mac mentioned this in the side. Studio max,

(18:59):
said somebody on the text line, Said Derek brown deserves
Comeback player of The.

Speaker 1 (19:03):
YEAR i think all that we, went, oh, yeah.

Speaker 4 (19:06):
Yeah that makes.

Speaker 1 (19:07):
Sense that's. Yeah we all, went h, yeah we. Did.

Speaker 2 (19:10):
Yeah it Was it was in. Symphony it was a
symphony of uh agreeing with whoever said, that and Then
mac bringing that to the side. Studio but he matches the. Criteria,
man if you look at who the comeback player of The,
year is supposed to go. To it's supposed to honor
a player who has demonstrated resilience in the face of
adversity by overcoming, illness physical, injury or other circumstances that

(19:34):
led him to miss playing time the previous, season even
if you don't necessarily have to miss playing time the previous.
Season BECAUSE i go back To Drew brees when he
won it with The, chargers all the way back in
two thousand and, four The, chargers that is, right and
the reason he wanted in two thousand and four was
because he was so much better than what he was

(19:55):
in two thousand and. Three, like it's not because of an.
Injury he played eleven. Games people have been.

Speaker 5 (20:00):
Saying That Daniel jones should potentially win. It what Did
Daniel jones come back? From he came back from. Sucking,
oh that's BUT i don't understand what. That's does that?
Mean that doesn't make. Sense he played as far AS i,
remember he played in every, game, Guys so.

Speaker 2 (20:19):
The Comeback player of The year. Award not to get
stuck on, this but we make it whatever we want.
To it's what The College Football Playoff committee. Is they
get to make the playoffs whatever they want. To they
set the. Criteria it changes every, Week it changes every.
Year Comeback player of The, year it changes almost every. Season,
yes Because Joe, burrow he's won this thing. Twice if
he finishes out this season having led The bengals to the,

(20:42):
Playoffs Joe burrow might have won it three. Times you
can come Back player of The, YEAR i, mean just
BECAUSE i know that he played last. Season BUT i
don't even know can you come back from a devastating
knee injury or tow injury in his season in? SEASON i,
mean we can make this thing whatever we want. To
Steve smith won. It he's the Last Carolina panther to
have won this. Award he had the big time injury

(21:04):
that kept him out in two thousand and. Four he
comes back to win The Triple crown in two thousand and. Five, so,
okay you could Put Bryce young in this convo just
because of how bad it was at the beginning of last.
Year But bryce isn't going to be the guy to
win this Because Bryce young played well when he came

(21:24):
back into the starting, lineup and we're wondering if he's
going to improve based off of. That Derek brown is the. Guy,
man if you wanted to give this award To Derek,
brown that would make a lot of sense to.

Speaker 1 (21:33):
Me the problem, is.

Speaker 2 (21:36):
The last time a defensive player won this Was Eric,
barry and if you'll, Remember Eric barry battled cancer and
came back and played. Well that's what it takes to
win on the defensive side of the. BALL i, mean
the Last greg ellis shout out to a tar heel
he wanted to know. Seven there's not many defensive players
that win this. Thing so that's the.

Speaker 1 (21:55):
Issue.

Speaker 2 (21:55):
MAN i do think the way That Derek brown is
playing that he would be well deserving of. This the
issue is one defensive players don't win. It the other
IS i just is there another player in the league
that would take this away from? Him BECAUSE i don't
think there's an obvious. CANDIDATE i don't think that there

(22:16):
is The Joe burrow type where usually this award goes
to the really good player that missed the season the year.
Prior SO i Think derek has a really good, shot
to be honest with, You and if he doesn't, WIN
i don't know IF i have anybody in line that
has a better. Case SO i do think that he
would be well deserving if he got, It LIKE i
Think Kay adams saying that he would deserve to Win

(22:38):
Defensive player of The. Year as much AS i love
The panthers' homerism that is happening at THE Nfl, Network
Baldy Kay. ADAMS i know she's not WITH Nfl network,
anymore but you get the. IDEA i do love that
they have all this fandom For. Carolina. MAN i can't
Give Derek Brown Defensive player of The year Over Miles.
Garrett that guy has been. Sensational so if we're going
to Give Derek brown any, hardware Comeback player of The

(23:00):
year is the. Thing, YEAH i would Say Pro bowl
appearance because he deserves that. TOO i would say comeback
player of The.

Speaker 5 (23:05):
Year he's definitely in the conversation for because he comes
back from a legitimate. Injury he's putting up some really good.
NUMBERS i, mean even with the down weeks that he's.
Had AND i say that with air, quotes because you,
Know Pro Football focus tells you he hasn't necessarily been
great during this.

Speaker 2 (23:22):
Time, Okay i'm gonna try my back on and, like to,
me maybe he wasn't making as many splash plays but
then he had five pressures Against san fran and then
he had splash plays in a couple of different moments
against the ram.

Speaker 5 (23:36):
THAT i, mean those are splash plays when you're bringing.
PRESSURE i don't understand what more you Want Pro Football
focus explain it to. Me BUT i do think He's
max said. It he still ranks tenth amongst defensive, linemen
so he's right. There he's right near the. Top how
many of those guys are coming back from? Him but
as you, said more than likely they'll go with an offensive.

(23:57):
Player BUT i think he should have a legit to
make case. There and then, yeah For Pro, Bowl, YEAH
i think he should definitely be A Pro.

Speaker 4 (24:05):
Bowler first of, ALL.

Speaker 5 (24:07):
I, mean he's gonna probably get the invitation because even
if he doesn't get the initial, invite there are so
many guys that just, say, Yeah i'm not going to.

Speaker 2 (24:16):
That, well the thing is, NO i mean that's the issue,
though is that he's pretty far down on the. LIST i,
mean if you look at defensive, tackle where everybody is
right now in the. League i'm trying to pull up
the list here with all of the defensive tackles that
have received. Votes Derek brown isn't even anywhere in the top,
ten which is. Wild It's Zach, Allen Byron, Murphy Malik,

(24:40):
Collins Jeffrey, Simmons Kalais, Campbell Eric, Armstead brandon Dor, List Devonte,
Wyatt DeForest, Buckner Chris. Jones So Chris, jones, Really Chris
jones has been pretty good ever since the early.

Speaker 1 (24:57):
Struggles but, like, yeah but that's the thift those early.

Speaker 5 (25:00):
Struggles, SO i, mean, LOOK i think he's a guy
that's capable of being A pro bowler this. Year notice
a name that's not in, There Dexter lawrence has had
a horrible, Year SO i think there is opportunity. There
but IT'S i, mean we know how that. Works you
just you need The panthers fans to vote for him
And Pro.

Speaker 1 (25:20):
Bowls it comes down a lot to.

Speaker 2 (25:22):
Voting, yeah that's WHY i hate taking credit away From
Pro bowl. Appearances but all pros are what? Matter all
pros or what? Matter the problem, Is, yeah it feels
like with the criteria WITH nba players sneaking into The
All Star, game we've gotten better at that because of
the way that we divvy things.

Speaker 1 (25:42):
Up.

Speaker 2 (25:42):
Now it Hurt LaMelo last year because the media vote
was so against. Him but other than, that at least
you do have some coach, votes media, votes and fan
votes all in one to try to spread the wealth
a little. Bit here with The Pro bowl, votes it's
just it's up for, grabs. MAN i you, KNOW i
Thought Derek brown actually did have enough pr to get

(26:06):
into the top, ten BUT i guess. NOT i, mean
they're doing a lot of work for some other defensive
tackles out. There who do you think deserves their award?
Most Between Dave canalis And Dan morgan here Flounder coach
of The year For dave Or executive of The year For.
DAN i would.

Speaker 4 (26:23):
Say executive of The year For.

Speaker 5 (26:25):
Dan and the reason why is BECAUSE i believe, that you,
know With, dan have we really had moments where we've
looked at what he's done and, said there's, moment there
are moments that we didn't really like what he did
in the off.

Speaker 4 (26:38):
Season it's very rare that we've said.

Speaker 5 (26:40):
That for the most, part we've, Said, okay we like
what he did in the, offseason and it's stuck true
for most of the. Year SO i, mean these, Moves
i'm gonna tell, you, man That Adam thielen. Move that's
gonna be something that's gonna help him as, well because
you got something out of an asset that is no.

Speaker 1 (26:58):
Longer with the team that he was traded.

Speaker 5 (27:01):
To now he ends up signing with The, steelers they
picked him up off of. Waivers i'll be interested to
see how much he actually plays. There that'll be. Intriguing
but still you got something out of that. Asset SO
i mean those, moves what he's done with the defensive,
line rebuilding it this, year you could say whatever you.
Want you could, say, well you know how good Is
Turk wharton And Bobby brown really. Been, well they've been

(27:24):
on the field and this run defense has been a lot.
Better SO i would say that he's done a really
good job. There he's still gonna get credit For Mike,
Jackson AND i, mean you look at some of the
draft picks that he made this past.

Speaker 1 (27:37):
Year there are a. Lot there are some guys too like.

Speaker 5 (27:40):
Here SO i would SAY i would Lean Dan executive
of The year mainly BECAUSE i do think there are
other really good candidates For coach of The. Year LIKE i,
Said Ben johnson's gonna be up, There Mike vrabel's gonna
be up. There there are gonna be some guys that
are probably gonna get a little more fanfare than a
guy that is seven and six and a guy that

(28:01):
we have talked about has not had the greatest game
plans at. Times BUT i think both of. Them both
of them are in the running for that this. YEAR
i think that's certainly on the.

Speaker 2 (28:11):
Table we've gone through The coach of The year. CANDIDATES
i would go a different. DIRECTION i Think Ben johnson
has earned it more Than Dave, Canalis mike, McDonald, Big
mike McDonald. GUY i am too that one's. Close, ULTIMATELY
i like rewarding, winning even if you do have a
more talented, roster BECAUSE i think we get a little

(28:32):
too far away from the. OH i didn't think this
team was going to be, good and they. Are therefore
it has to be the coach so they get My
coach of The year. Vote that happens all the time
in every. SPORT i do like rewarding some of the
best coaches in the, game like giving it To Greg
popovitch doesn't win. IT i don't Think Eric spolster has
ever Won coach of The, year AND i got you

(28:54):
know What i'm, saying but it's because of. That it's actually,
unbelievable but it's, right, Right i'm pretty sure that that's.
Accurate but it's because of the case Of, oh they
have just enough. Talent even though we all understand That
spoe is a mad, genius we don't give him the. Award,
ultimately who do you think is most responsible for the
success when in reality both executive and head coach are?

(29:18):
Responsible who deserves it? MORE i go To, Chicago Ben
johnson deserves it more to me compared To Ryan. Pols
when you go To. SEATTLE i Think mike McDonald deserves
it more to me than What John schneider, does even
If schneider has a. Case the signing Of Sam donald
was much, maligned and getting rid Of Geno smith that
was criticized worked out great for.

Speaker 4 (29:38):
That Marcus lawrence want to pick up that's looking.

Speaker 2 (29:41):
Like you, Know Bira murphy is second on the defensive
Tackle Pro bowl vailving, List, LIKE i, mean, So John,
schneider you have a that's a tough one to try
to figure out up there. HERE i think It's dan
AND i Love Dave. Canalis you guys know. ME i
think he's a really good play caller and good head.
COACH i think it's inconsistent with the play, calling but
OVERALL i think he's, very very good at what he.
Does but here are the moves That Dan morgan pulled

(30:04):
off since we go, back go back To. March when
you start signing some of these guys and some of
the on team. Extensions, Right Bryson, tremaine you sign him
to a future contract has played a. Role you RESIGN Jj,
jansen the best move of this, offseason no question about.
It you Resign Andy, dalton, okay and you Release Dan.

(30:24):
Jackson that all happened In. February then you get To.
March you tend to restrict the free Agent Kde, Mays
you agree to terms With Austin. Corbett you hold on
To Tommy, Trimble you SIGN. J. C horn to a contract.
Extension you agree to terms bringing Back Mike. Jackson so
you get credit this year for The Mike jackson, acquisition
and you get credit For Mike jackson Trading Michael barrett

(30:47):
for him the previous. Season So Mike, jackson you can
use that as a piece of evidence as to Why
Dan morgan deserves executive of The. Gear you bring Back Brady,
Christensen you Sign Turk, Wharton Bobby, Brown Patrick, Jones Trayvon.
Merrick even with some of these guys not playing period
because of the, injuries With wharton sometimes And jones right,

(31:07):
now none of those guys have been negatives when they've
been out there on the. Field Rose boom, okay kind
of iffy had played. Better but, linebackers, man they dried
up so. Fast remember when free agency, hit all of
them are, gone, Man like you had. To you had
you prioritize defensive line, play which you should, have and

(31:29):
then you had to go out and you Get Rose.
Boom Rico daddle's a big one on that kind of,
contract monster. Move you get credit for drafting T mac
and everybody else that you. Drafted Mitchell levins is playing
a big role on this. TEAM i mentioned all those
moves and read them all like maybe your eyes kind

(31:49):
of glazed. Over but the REASON i read all of
them is where's the bad move? There that's my POINT i.
UNDERSTAND i went through every single one of those, transactions
like eighty percent of. Them where's the bad?

Speaker 5 (32:02):
Move the worst move that you probably, made and he
wasn't even that. BAD i think you'd have a better pass.
Rush if he was, out there was Probably Pat. JONES i,
mean and even so that's What i'm, saying, Right, SO i,
mean you're really you really have to be. Nitpicking that's
a lot of really great stuff and you're a team

(32:23):
that is ahead of. Schedule this is the, thing and
you can put as much stock into it as you want.
To we just Had Chris rose on. Yesterday he's a
guy that covers the entire. League he doesn't focus On.
Carolina he's out on The west. Coast he, said they're
the biggest surprise in all of. FOOTBALL i find it
hard to believe that there aren't peers throughout THE nfl

(32:46):
that believed the exact same. Thing and if that's, true
then if you have the biggest jump of, anybody THEN i,
Mean Dan morgan's gotta be right in that conversation is
the reason why.

Speaker 2 (32:59):
The last one for, me they did Release clowney felt
Like clowney wanted to go on and play somewhere. ELSE
i don't The clowney thing would help this. Team, yes
if he was still on the, squad didn't have to
get rid of, Him BUT i. Don't that felt like
a quieter version of The Adam delen situation Of clowney
not having his wife go on social media posting about

(33:22):
how much they want to go back. Home it just
felt a lot. Quieter AND i this is all. SPECULATION
i have zero clue what. Happened it just felt Like
clowney maybe wanted to go on somewhere else And carolina
was cool with. It it seemed amicable. Enough and that
would be the one THAT i questioned in terms of
having a, valuableiece Because clowney's had his moments In dallas
and he had his moments with us last.

Speaker 1 (33:41):
Year but that's the point.

Speaker 2 (33:42):
To, me Like Dan morgan deserves his, award maybe more
than anybody else outside Of Derek Brown Comeback player of The,
Year that's WHAT i would.

Speaker 5 (33:50):
Say, YEAH i would agree with. THAT i would agree
with that for.

Speaker 1 (33:54):
Sure dan deserves.

Speaker 2 (33:55):
It coming up, next we will get To Shannon spake
The Charlotte Hornets Sideline. Report she talks about The hornet
season And Conkin nipples appearance On Jimmy Fallon Last Night.
Again coming up next On The Western Walker Show Sports
radio ninety two SEVEN FM Wesn Walker Sports radio ninety

(34:18):
two to SEVEN, wfnz talking about The Charlotte. Hornets they
did lose to The Brooklyn nets their previous game one
sixteen to one oh, three but they have an opportunity
to make up for that In New york again, tonight
playing The knicks at seven point. Thirty who better to
talk more about it Than Shannon, spake The Charlotte hornets sideline,
reporter a part Of FanDuel Sports, network also host of

(34:40):
The Spake Up. Podcast follow her On twitter At Shannon,
spake and go follow the podcast At Spake Up. PODCAST
i already did you have no? Excuse go To twitter right,
Now instagram go follow Her Shannon spake And Spake Up. Podcast,
shannon thank you so much for joining me On wes And.

Speaker 1 (34:56):
Walker how are you.

Speaker 6 (34:56):
Doing i'm, great just spending some time In New York city.
Here we've been here SINCE i Guess sunday afternoon is
when we got here play. Tonight we had yesterday, off
which was. NICE i know everyone was kind of busy
doing their own. THINGS i did not leave the hotel
all day, long which is a beautiful. Thing but, yeah
we've you, know getting ready for, tonight as you, mentioned
AND i think a little bit of the our word

(35:17):
revenge is probably on the minds of a lot of
these players because we know how things went down On.
Wednesday you were on that broadcast with. Me we saw
the disappointment and you know all that good. Stuff so,
YEAH i think everyone's just kind of getting their minds.

Speaker 2 (35:30):
Right, well before we dive into the basketball of it,
all you said you were just hanging out at the,
hotel not a big city, Person, like did you want
to go for a night on the town With dell
And eric and party it. Up that wasn't going to
happen with you.

Speaker 6 (35:40):
Guys SO i have two, kids three, dogs a. Cat,
Okay so WHEN i get a chance to have like
zero like zero people sort of meeting me for pulling
me in different, DIRECTIONS i take that. Opportunity So, NO
i actually lived In New york for three years right
out of, college and So i've seen the. City doun
the city and the inside of my room was nice and,

(36:02):
quiet had something to, eat got a little workout, in
and enjoyed my time.

Speaker 1 (36:07):
Alone all, Right, well THAT'S i guess that's.

Speaker 2 (36:09):
Acceptable SEE i don't have all of the kids and
all of the animals or anything like, that so maybe
it would be different from. ME i will, say it
does look like Conk nipple is living it. Up he
appeared On Jimmy fallon last. NIGHT i will, say like Conk,
nipple because he's been amazing in his rookie. Season the
fact that he's clearly the rookie of the. Year to,
me he Wins Eastern Conference rookie of The month well.

(36:31):
DESERVED i don't think anybody was really all that close
in my, opinion and he's playing like An all. Star
what's been most impressive to, You shannon covering Conk nipple
to the first twenty games or so this, year something
that maybe not enough people are talking, about or just
the overall thing that's.

Speaker 1 (36:46):
Impressed you the.

Speaker 6 (36:46):
MOST i know that like it's so cliche or whatever
to say, everything but, truly it's like some of his
shots when they go, in it's a thing with beauty
and you just go. Wow and Like i'll be sitting
there And i'll look at somebody And i'll be, like holy,
cow and everyone just kind of nods their head and
then you, KNOW i, mean he openly at the beginning
of the season talked about how defensively he wasn't the

(37:06):
most you, know he wasn't the most athletic. PERSON i
think all of that is crap BECAUSE i think like
what we've seen out of him in terms of being
able to use his body and being really smart in
a way that he uses his. BODY i saw an,
ARTICLE i think it Was The Athletic today that says
he only has two offensive bouves all season, long which,
is you, know. Amazing like the way he plays.

Speaker 1 (37:25):
Is just very.

Speaker 6 (37:25):
SMART i also am so impressed with like the person
that he is every single time he sees, Me, Hi,
shannon how are you? Right and, like you, know that's
that's a given for a, lot but like you don't
always get that out of, athletes especially young athletes who
have been in the spotlight for as much time as he.
HAS i think he's a really well rounded. PERSON i

(37:46):
hear him talking about football AND nfl and SO i
think that there's just so much to. HIM i also
love how he's, humbly very. HONEST a lot of players
That i've, COVERED i don't, know like they won't like
they take the. Praise sometimes it sounds like they're you,
know a little too you, know high on, themselves and
they don't take the. Praise you know that they really

(38:07):
are thinking about it and just don't want to talk about.
IT i, think LIKE i just asked him about being
An Eastern Conference player of The month and he's, like
it's really great because you, Know i'm putting in a
lot of work and for us all to get recognized
and for you, know for this, recognition it's. Huge and
he did text With Cooper flag he told, me because
of course they both they both got those. Honors BUT

(38:27):
i just think that the person that he, is a
player that he, is it's not surprising that he's so
well rounded because that's also the type of person that he.
Is so it really is Everything.

Speaker 2 (38:37):
Shannon it feels like the team has responded well to
who he is as a person and who he is
as a. Player Miles bridges said that he had been
the best player all year.

Speaker 1 (38:45):
Long he continues to play like.

Speaker 2 (38:47):
It it feels like teammates have responded to what he
is as a basketball. Player how do you feel the
way that the team is responding to who con is
as a as a player and a.

Speaker 6 (38:56):
Person, WELL i mean you lead by, example, RIGHT I
mean there are guys that get in there and are
very loud and make a lot of noise and then
when you know when it's, time when the when the
lights come, on they don't really back it. Up AND
i think he's not the loudest. Kid you can see
that he leads by. Example he's out, there he's putting
in the. Work never takes a, playoff never takes a.
Playoff if you watch, him even towards the end of the,

(39:16):
game even, when like if the SCORE i don't, remember
maybe it was a home of one of the games last,
WEEK i don't. KNOW i don't think it was the next.
One they all run together at this Point walker AND
i remember watching, him like literally the way that he
played defense in the closing minutes of the, game and
it wasn't one of our. WINS i just was, Like
i've watched a lot of football players who play to the,

(39:40):
very very very last, play and that is very, impressive
especially for a young. Player i'm drawing a blank on
the player At detroit right. NOW i Just i'm so,
in you, know in deep with THE nba defensive. GUY
i just am literally just drawing a blank right. Now
BUT i remember watching him play till the very last,
play regardless of what the score, was and moments like

(40:01):
that that is recognized by not only you know me
and people on the sideline and the, coaches but by
the teammates as well.

Speaker 2 (40:08):
Well And, Shannon, look you've been covering the team for
the last couple of years. Now with what we've seen
from this, squad we had high. Hopes we thought this
would be a fun. Team they still are fun at.
Times they haven't gotten as many, wins and the loss
Against brooklyn that was. Disappointing how would you describe the
morale of the roster as it currently.

Speaker 6 (40:26):
STANDS i think it goes up and, Down, walker AND
i think that you can attest to, that. RIGHT i
think that there are times where and even last, year
where the team really played, very very tough and even
if they, lost they were like. Okay and again there's
no moral victories, here BUT i do think that there
WAS i just think up and, down. RIGHT i think
after that next game you AND i. TALKED i think

(40:46):
that there was a point WHERE i was, like, WOW
i haven't seen this mood and it was AND i
think and you saw what they were able to do
and they kind of came back and got two in a.
ROW i do feel like they're maybe feeling that a
little bit right. Now, NOW i obviously you heard that
you played the comments On i'll give you a drop
on your podcast THAT i lost On Hornets Have More Awesome.
SHANNON i KNOW i listened this morning and you've played

(41:10):
the you, know you talked about the con quote that
he Gave, Rod and SO i do think that there's
a sense of you, know pride that's been hit a little,
bit and tonight'll be a good. TEST i, mean, obviously
The knicks are a great. Team they've got a lot
of veterans who played together for a long. Time and
you not only think about the guys that are on
this team playing, together but the core Of villanova players

(41:32):
who work. Together there is a lot to be said
about how well those guys play. Together they've known each
other for a very very long, time and they're coming
off the back to, back right or a. Game this
is a back to back for, them and it was
a you, know, hey last night was a was the
one that was probably you, know starred for a long,
time you know with The. Celtics Uh so we'll see
how tonight. GOES i think it could really be an

(41:53):
opportunity and a lot of these guys are playing At
Madison Square garden for the first, time which is a bright,
light big city kind of thing where you walk out
there and you, go holy, Crap i'm AT. MSP i
don't care who you. Are that, happens. RIGHT i just
walked by there and on the outside of the, Building
you've Got coach k picture with a quote About Madison Square.
Garden you've Got John caliperry with a quote About Madison Square.

(42:15):
Garden however you cut, it this is a big moment
for a lot of these young.

Speaker 2 (42:20):
Kids how's the arena to be a sideline reporter? In,
like where does that rank among all the? Arenas it's.

Speaker 6 (42:25):
Awesome i've actually covered SO i covered A Saint john's game,
Here Saint John's. KENTUCKY i did a couple of tournaments.
Here there was like an under armour tournament one time
WHEN i was, here so that was really. Cool i'm
trying to think what ELSE i did WHEN i lived
In New York. CITY i actually worked like A vh
One Fashion awards, here AND i did A Hbo Sport

(42:47):
Sugar Shane moseley boxing match back in two thousand or
two thousand and. ONE i was a runner for. THAT
i actually got paid like fifty dollars for twelve, hours
and it was the beast night of my. Life it
was the best side of my. LIFE i sugar say
moldy LIKE i got sweat on me from being so
close to, us you, know to the. Action So Madison
Square garden this place like you walk up and you

(43:08):
try to play it. Cool you try to be, like all,
right it's just another, arena but it's. Not it's a
very cool.

Speaker 2 (43:14):
Place they've seen legends Like Shannon. Spake there on the
Sideline Charlotte, hornet sideline Reporter Shannon, spake joining us from
the Fandual Sports, network host of The Spake up. Podcast
last thing before we get you out of, HERE i
want to plug your, Pod. SHANNON i think it's really.
INTERESTING i caught your episode With Patrick, young who really
brought one back college basketball and, nostalgia but also his
story is very. INTERESTING i just wanted to give you

(43:35):
the platform also to, say what has been your favorite
moment that you've had with this podcast in? Existence what
has it been like a year, now like barely over a.

Speaker 6 (43:43):
Year, yeah six. MONTHS i think one of my favorite
conversations was With Kurt busch because back in the, Day
like in two thousand and, six two thousand and, Seven
kurt was a pretty volatile, person like when he was you,
know racing and he AND i had run INDs AND
i was a very young reporter at the, time and
that those moments were pretty influential in my. Life and

(44:04):
to be able to sit down and talk to him
about those moments that like impacted me and it made me,
stronger is what it. Did and even WHEN i was
able to talk To Tony, stewart that was a big one,
too because, again people like that really taught me how
to handle situations and how to be better at this.
Job but how do you know, that Like john Cal
perry was great Brad. Nessler i've had so many really amazing,

(44:28):
guests and some of them have been for selfish reasons
BECAUSE i think their story is really really. COOL i
actually just dropped one yesterday With Tom, stillow who's the
fifty eight year old who PLAYED i Think division one
at Like Hombe college this past. Season like he, literally you,
know he got into drugs and alcohol when he first
got out of high school and wasn't able to go

(44:48):
to college and wasn't able to, play and he just
kind of like he's been in shape doing like strongman
events and, triathlons and he woke up and he's, Like
i'm going to go back to, college AND i THINK
i wanted to to go out for the football, team
and he. Did he didn't play in a, game but
he was there for all the practices and his story is,
JUST i mean just amazing of like not letting the

(45:11):
right now determine who you're going to, be regardless of
what age you. Are SO i thought that was a
pretty cool story as, well and that one's out right.

Speaker 2 (45:17):
Now, yeah awesome, stuff like a high quality production, content all.

Are You A Charlotte?

Are You A Charlotte?

In 1997, actress Kristin Davis’ life was forever changed when she took on the role of Charlotte York in Sex and the City. As we watched Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte navigate relationships in NYC, the show helped push once unacceptable conversation topics out of the shadows and altered the narrative around women and sex. We all saw ourselves in them as they searched for fulfillment in life, sex and friendships. Now, Kristin Davis wants to connect with you, the fans, and share untold stories and all the behind the scenes. Together, with Kristin and special guests, what will begin with Sex and the City will evolve into talks about themes that are still so relevant today. "Are you a Charlotte?" is much more than just rewatching this beloved show, it brings the past and the present together as we talk with heart, humor and of course some optimism.
