Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the Wesson Walker Show, and a moral lesson
is told at the end of each episode. One notable
episode is one called The Price, in which a boy
buys a drug called spin. He was smoking that spin
It's Wes, becomes addicted to it and dies of an overdose.
We need Walk cartoons like that these days for these
badass and Walker.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
Would these kids die of drugs? Yes, so they can
learn their lesson and know not to do it.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
If somebody fictional dies, they'll learn not to do it
in nonfiction, you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
For that reason.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
Marshall braistaf Tech Text New Texas is straight fire.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
I had to act some figure bracet off, but mamma wouldn't.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
Let me get text hent Only on Sports Radio ninety
two point seven FM wfnzs Oh.
Speaker 2 (00:44):
Come on, mom, why didn't you do this? They said
it was too demonic. Well maybe it's because a kid
died of drugs. One more hour to go On Western
Walker Sports Radio ninety two to seven WFNZ. We're experiencing
(01:06):
something a little abnormal right now. Fire or Fizzle. It
is a staple segment. It is a universally beloved segment.
This is something that every time we're done with the
fandal text line has fire emojis. I love this segment.
It's my favorite thing to listen to all week long.
All we get is a glowing review. It's the first
(01:28):
time that the majority the mass is West. They're not happy. Yeah,
they're calling shenanigans. They're saying this was the most biased
fire fizzle that they've ever heard. That they were a
little too cold in their car with all the fizzles.
They wanted more fire. I've never seen your people turn
against you the way that they have here on the
text line, But make no mistake, they have turned against
(01:49):
you with this addition of fire fidicles.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
Well, you know, I'm a wrestling guy, man, and you
know you can only beat a good guy for so long.
Sometimes you got to give them a little bit of
a taste of the bad, you know, So you know
I'll be back. I'll come back for you guys. But
you know, I know that was going to throw you
guys off. And that was a decision that was made
kind of right when we started. I said, you know
what everybody's getting into. There's a full stept for that
(02:11):
SF full heel. Last Bryant turned full heel and you
hear that evil Yeah, I got Magneto on the T
shirt today. I mean, you guys know I like Michael Meyers,
so you know you had to know it was coming
at some point.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
You are in the villain. It is so funny to see.
What I love about this though, is people they do
love the segment and so they were ready to hear
some fires and they just did not get enough fire
from you at all. Now, perhaps we can play fire
or fizzle extended with some of the jerseys that are
coming out of the NFL. For I guess it's Rivalry Week.
Tell us the story on this West, because I know
(02:45):
that you were looking at it before the show. You're
interested in talking about it. There are to me, there
are some fire unis out there. But what's going on
in the NFL.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
Yeah, there's going to be eight clubs that will have
uniforms that they will wear for the nfls. They're called
the Rivalry Club uniforms that these teams will wear from
the AFC East and the NFC West, and they're going
to wear them when they play against each other in
one game settings this season. And so you know all
(03:12):
the teams you've got the car and those the Patriots.
You guys know the divisions, the NFC West and the
AFC East, but some of them to mixed reviews, but
I like most of them. I think they're pretty good.
If you guys haven't seen them, you should check them out.
But I ranked my top three during the break. I
love Arizona with the paint splatter. To me, it looks
like the Oregon Ducks cookies and cream uniform, and I
(03:33):
love those. Those are one of my favorite uniform combinations
in college football. The Miami Dolphins, you can never go wrong.
I mean, you put black with the aquain one, it's
gonna be dope no matter what you do. And then
I like the Buffalo Bills. It is simple, but I
think it plays very well on their city because they're
all white with the ice blue and the gray, so
it kind of fits with Buffalo being cold and them
(03:55):
playing in those snowy, icy games, so it kind of
reminds me of Stormtroopers.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
I think Josh Allen is a little more accurate than.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
Yeah yeah, So that's kind of what that reminded me
of because he was the model on the picture on
the team page.
Speaker 2 (04:08):
I would put the Buffalo Bill's cold front jersey. They'll
wear that on the field against New England October fifth,
So I don't think we're gonna get snow at that point.
I guess we could October, but it'll be cold as hell.
It will be cold. I just wish that we were
wearing it in December, to wear the snow, I don't
even know if you're allowed to, to be honest, is
then when all see him on the field, Yeah, they
(04:29):
could wear that if they wanted. So, I don't know, man,
is that too much of a competitive advantage? Are you
just gonna blend in with the snow the biggest thing.
Speaker 1 (04:37):
I don't think the NFL will stop them, but I
think for your own team it might mess you up because,
especially if it's heavy snow where you can't see that,
where the visibility is affected, it could throw you off
looking at guys in all white uniforms running around out
there in the snow. So I think for your own
team you might not want to wear those.
Speaker 2 (04:54):
You're gonna have Keon Coleman running wide open and Josh
Allen's not going before saying open. That's my fault, man,
I'm sorry. I couldn't see people mentioned the Rams too,
even though they were on division op. I mean, when
you put.
Speaker 1 (05:05):
Black, you know, with bright colors, I think that really
kind of it's hard to fail when you do that.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
Just thinking about this today because I actually went to
the Charlotte Student store today to go get a shirt
for tomorrow. I don't have many T shirts, got a
lot of Charlotte hoodies, and I didn't want to wear
a hoodie slash long sleep shirt tomorrow. So anyways, I
went to go get a Charlotte forty nine ers shirt
at the bookstore today, and I was thinking about that
as well, just how great the predominant black shirts look
(05:35):
with just a touch of green on it. And I
need more green in my Charlotte wardrobe. But I just
love the way that the predominant black with complimented by
green colors look black.
Speaker 1 (05:46):
Black is a force multiply when you talk about color day,
it really is the lamellow ball, if you will, of
colors Midnight Blue for the Rams.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
I'm with you. Love that jersey that's in my top
three Dolphins is probably my top one. You and I
are stuck thee out of one.
Speaker 1 (06:02):
I like that at first when I saw just the jersey,
but then when I saw it on them, I was like, eh,
you know, it was all right.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
And the Patriots too. I love the Patriots what they did.
The only one that I have anything against really is
the Jets. Jets uncle was talking about how much the Jets.
Speaker 3 (06:18):
Yes, looks absolutely awful.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
I don't like it. It looks a little trash green. Yeah,
it does. Looks like they're normal green, except it sat
out in the sun for a few weeks. It was
just a little off. It feels like it's a moldy
Oscar with a sunburn. I feel like Oscar the Grouch
is about to pop out of that jersey. That's what
it looks like to me. Maybe if they start wearing
(06:40):
trash lids for helmets, then you could be Oscar the
Grouch out there. Although a lot of Jets fans would
just say we should wear those as helmets because our
team is trash constantly. Maybe they could do that as well. Yes,
that's that's the only It's the only jersey that I
don't really love. I do like the Carolina Panthers jerseys.
I like the new logo, despite Wes deeming it fizzle
earlier in the show, we do need to talk about
(07:02):
some of the comments from Dan Morgan and Dave Canalis,
both speaking to media each of the last couple of days.
A pretty big storyline heading into Week one against Jacksonville
something we haven't talked about yet with team week and
all the Adam d Len Hunter Renfro stuff. We might
be without our starting left tackle against Jacksonville West. That's
not good against those two pass rushers on the outside
and Trayvon Walker and what you have in Josh Hines Allen,
(07:27):
not Josh Allen, but Josh Heines Allen. Iki Kwanu suffered
an appendicitis and had his appendix removed. He's now day
to day after going through surgery on Sunday, experiencing pain
in his midsection, so pretty serious injury. He's questionable for
this game against Jacksonville. Dave Canal has had more for
us after speaking to media yesterday.
Speaker 4 (07:47):
Ikey had an appendectomy, so he had appendicidus. He wasn't
feeling good and then ultimately went to the hospital and
they said, all right, well we gotta do surgery here.
We have to remove this, and so he had his
appendix removed. He's day to day. We've seen these things
turn around and a little over a week. They can
(08:07):
be longer. You know, it just depends on each individual body,
how you respond to the surgery, how your body heals
the right way. So he's going to be day to day,
you know, all the way up until the game. So
that's something that we have to keep our eye on
as we go.
Speaker 2 (08:23):
That was surgery.
Speaker 4 (08:24):
That was Sunday night. So he started to feel sick
a little bit before that, and then finally Sunday night
he went in and then was diagnosed with you know, pendicitis,
and and so they removed his appendix.
Speaker 2 (08:35):
All I'm going to ask you to turn over some
sound real quickly with Dan Morgan talking about their belief
in some of the backups. But I don't have much
belief in yosh Nmen. I know that I was happy
about yosh Nyman's acquisition last year around this time because
he had had a pretty good pass protection grade up
with Green Bay and really had a lot of versatility
up front. But Brady Christiansen is the guy that I
(08:57):
would much rather have out there at left tackle. There
go with yas, how do you feel about Iki possibly
missing this? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (09:03):
I mean I think that while you look at this
Jacksonville unit last year, despite having a couple of guys
who are really talented, they were dead last and past
rush win rate in twenty twenty four. So there's something
to make you feel a little bit more comforted. But yeah,
at the end of the day, though, these guys are
still good, and if you have a subpart left tackle
out there, then they're going to exploit that, and he
(09:25):
could end up being a day that they might not
be great rushing the pass all see them long, but
they might be great that day, Okay, And so I
don't think you feel very comfortable with that. Jacksonville certainly
hears that they smelled the blood in the water and
they're going to try their best to exploit that. So
with Yoshneimen or Brady Christiansen, I would not feel super
(09:45):
confident going out there against a couple of pretty good
pass rushers that Jacksonville possesses.
Speaker 2 (09:50):
Here's more from the Panthers GM on the replacements for
Iki Ikwane.
Speaker 5 (09:54):
You know, it's unfortunate, but you know there's the possibility
that he done missed the first week, but hey, we're
in we're in this business, and you know, again going
back to David's question, like, you have to have great
depth in this league for situations like that, because sometimes
things happen that you can't control, and when you have
(10:16):
good depth, you know it can it can cover that
up a little bit. So feel good about Yosh, feel
good about Brady. Two guys that are more than capable
of protecting that left side and making Bryce feel comfortable.
Speaker 6 (10:31):
So yeah, not too concerned.
Speaker 5 (10:32):
We just always got to be ready and expect the unexpected.
Speaker 2 (10:37):
Now, I had faith in Yosh Neimen being a very
good backup tackle in the league coming into last year.
He didn't play up to what I thought he was
going to give us. Brady Christiansen. I would rather start
him in terms of backup tackles, especially with his athleticism.
He had some awesome combine numbers. That's what has kept
(10:58):
him in the league in my opinion, because Lord knows
Matt Ruhle knows short arms. We're not going to play
him at tackle all that much. I do think he's
a valued offensive lineman to have in a pinch, and
it's why they made it a priority to bring him back,
and so they're not wrong. I think their top eight
offensive linemen from last year are back. Yeah, with Yosh,
Brady and Kid May's being the guys outside of the
(11:21):
starting lineup, I'd be okay all things considered, Relatively speaking,
I'd be okay if Christiansen was starting at left tackle.
It's not ideal. I don't love it, but if I
have to lose somebody, it would be Brady for me.
I don't love it with Yosh out there, but these
are some different flavors of pass rushers that you're getting
to with Josh heinz Allen and Trayvon Walker. Walker kind
(11:43):
of a bull, big, strong guy. Most people are going
to remember Aiden Hutchinson being drafted after him. Yeah, bad decision.
Walker's a good player, not amazing, not number one overall pickworthy,
but like flirts with ten sacks that maybe even got
that last year he's had. I think each of us first,
I think he's good. I think he's good. And Josh
Heinz Allen can have these wreck type of games with
(12:05):
his speed off of the edge, and so I just
wonder with that talent that they have on the outside, like,
are you gonna help a lot more with some tight ends?
It alters the game plan just a little bit if
you can't trust your left tackle solely by himself to
pass protect for brut.
Speaker 1 (12:22):
Yeah, and Walker's had double digit sacks each of the
last two seasons. But I will say, too man, how
much they trust them. The game plan will tell you that.
Look for in this game, a lot of chips, a
lot of help over there on that side for the
left tackle to be able to hold it down over there,
and I'll tell you what they're gonna do. So Jacksonville,
I'm sure you know this was not news that the
(12:43):
Panthers wanted to be able to unleash so far out
from the game, because Jacksonville can certainly look at this
and game plan for it.
Speaker 2 (12:51):
I will say, outside of an appendicitis, which is a
wild injury, but outside of an appendicitis, Carolina has been
pretty damn healthy all off season in terms of what
we could realistically ask for. There hasn't been any injuries
that have been season threatening. I'm knocking on wood, you
hear that. I just want to make sure people aren't
(13:11):
gonna accuse me, and i'd mentions afterwards, But we have
been relatively healthy. We haven't suffered any of those types
of injuries. We're almost there, knock on wood, knock on wood.
But for the most part, we've been pretty good. Nothing
else up front, wide receiver room. Had some banged up
guys here and there, but for the most part, we've
been good at that position. Bryce Shung got out unscathed
(13:35):
to this point, and if Icky suffering an appendicitis is
the biggest injury that we've had in terms of a
star player, a starter missing Week one. We're going to
be among the healthier teams going into the season and
that is a monster factor when it comes to winning
football game. Yeah, no doubt about it. So I'm hoping
that they continue to stay healthy as they approach that
(13:56):
Week one matchup against Jacksonville. It's the live wire. We
got plenty of sound coming up next. Sports Radio ninety
two to seven WFZ. We're back on Weston Walker Sports
(14:17):
Radio ninety two to seven WFNZ, broadcasting live from the
Chandler Voltas Studios. CB Injurylaw dot Com, CV injury Law
dot Com. One call. That's all the Carolinas personal injury lawyers.
We're gonna make it our home for one more day
this week before we're out at the doghouse tomorrow from
twelve to three and it's going to be all about
the Charlotte forty nine ers as we get you ready
(14:39):
for the Dukes Mayo Classic. Charlotte takes on app State.
Forty nine ers are looking for their first ever football
victory over the Mountaineers. It's their first game ever at
boa seven o'clock kick. I'm excited as hell for it.
We're gonna give you our game predictions. We actually skipped
over it today despite going through app State schedule because
(15:02):
we wanted the grand reveal of it all. I'm excited
about tomorrow show. Yeah, no doubt about it.
Speaker 1 (15:06):
I mean this will be officially our start to the
football season because we will be amongst the people. We've
been out there to watch them go to those soccer games,
which brought no excitement to us, but now that we
will see two fan bases. And the best part is
it is the beginning of the season, so hope floats
for both teams. They're going to be fans out there
that think that this is the year that they could
(15:27):
do this or do that. In state rivalry, I mean,
it's all going for us, so it should be a
very lively environment out there. The doghouse will come out
there holerrettus, man, come check us out.
Speaker 2 (15:39):
Look really do that, because we're trying to. It would
be a lot of fun to see some Charlotte forty
Niner fans come out and say want some.
Speaker 1 (15:45):
Reactions to what we're saying, and you app State fans.
Speaker 2 (15:48):
It's a love hate rivalry, but it's not even I
hate you hate you probably idea like we.
Speaker 7 (15:56):
Would just lay it, lay it out there plainly for
the stage. West is telling you he hates your school. Okay,
Like I'm in that weird space where I pull for
your school in a lot of other scenarios outside of Charlotte.
I hope that we get to a point where Charlotte
is so successful that I have ground to stand on
to hate you.
Speaker 2 (16:15):
Yeah, I got love though.
Speaker 1 (16:16):
I mean, if you want to come out and do
the stuff that a lot of you guys do it
Wake Forest Games. You want to come to the Wake
Games with your app stuff following and talking about you
the real black and gold and this, that and the third,
you could come out there and do all of that. Man,
it's not a you know, a deep seated hatred where
we're gonna fight. It's a fun sports. But I don't
get it twisted. Yeah, you sports hate them, but you
(16:37):
hate them. Yeah, sports hake for sure. Yeah, sports he
is a real thing. That's what my mom always says about.
For bonus, much cooler than Charlotte in the summers, and
it's nice out there.
Speaker 2 (16:45):
You know. My mom always makes that distinction when she
talks about how much she hates Tom Brady because she
hates him. She's a big Peyton fanning fan. New England
of course not only beat Carolina in the Super Bowl,
but they stop Peyton from winning a few Super Bowls
as well. And she loves her Paiti pies. What was
she called Paiti pie. Yeah, that's a real thing she does.
And she hates Tom Brady and makes about three Facebook
(17:08):
statuses a day talking about how much she hates Tom Brady.
But it's all sports hate. And we'd love to see
you over there at the Doghouse. Not only are we
going to be out there from twelve to three, Kyle
Bailey's going to be out there from three to six
two broadcasting live. Get you set for the game. So
good stuff for WFNZ for the next couple of days.
Speaker 7 (17:24):
I just had to laugh because my dad has an
infamous tweet that I cannot repeat on air about Tom Brady.
Speaker 3 (17:31):
This is when he had his Twitter account.
Speaker 7 (17:35):
He it was I don't even know if I can
say the abbreviations.
Speaker 2 (17:41):
You are scared of that tweet.
Speaker 3 (17:43):
It could get me fired if I was to repeat it.
Speaker 2 (17:46):
Well, we don't want to get you fired. But it
was a fire tweet.
Speaker 7 (17:49):
It is one that still resonates with Fitty every once
in a while where her start just chuckling to himself.
Speaker 3 (17:56):
And remember just how great of a tweet it was.
Speaker 2 (17:59):
Did he delete it?
Speaker 7 (18:00):
No, Twitter deleted it because they deleted his account.
Speaker 2 (18:05):
I don't know what I'm laughing at. Honestly, you could
get me in trouble for just laughing, so I need
to stop laughing. I have no clue what the content is,
and so I won't push you to reveal that on air,
but I will push you to reveal it off air.
I will ask you to say what he said as
long as you can say it. I don't even know
what's going on. Yeah, come by, I say what's up,
and then I'll be out and about Bank of America
Stadium the rest of the day until we walk in,
(18:27):
hopefully seeing a Charlotte forty nine Ers victory to kick
off the season. All right, here's a drinking three oh
one Bruski. It's true. Yeah, you have a Bruski guy.
I'm Bruski. You could.
Speaker 7 (18:41):
I mean, if you wanted to, you could probably start beforehand.
Speaker 3 (18:44):
I mean we just won't tell anybody a little wink wink.
Speaker 2 (18:47):
I don't know what the FCC rules on that are. Yeah,
we can't be snitching like that on the set right now. Yeah,
he's only asking if you wouldn't snitch on I'm just
saying you're not going to do it.
Speaker 7 (18:58):
But I'm just saying if you want to do, if
you got friends here who wouldn't say nothing.
Speaker 2 (19:02):
Yeah, I think I'm trying to remember the FCC rules
on this. I actually think, if I'm not mistaken, you
can drink on air. I don't think you are allowed
to be drunk on air. I think, yeah, that's frowned upon,
clearly frowned upon. I don't know how you legislate that.
If you're the FCC, maybe you call in and then
(19:22):
it's up for debate and whatever.
Speaker 7 (19:24):
I am not going to test those like ESP and
New York guys when they go to the Beach Bash
they partake. Yeah, and I know Philly apparently has a
drunk radio segment. I don't know what the rules are.
I don't know what the rule. I think I would
just test this. I thought that was just regular Philly radio.
I would just test to see where you at.
Speaker 1 (19:39):
I'd ask you how you feel about me each hour
and then as stopping and change as.
Speaker 2 (19:43):
We know, all right, I love you, man? Do I
turn into and I love you guy? Or I started
telling you how.
Speaker 3 (19:53):
There's no way, there's no way you're an angry drunk.
Speaker 2 (19:56):
No, I'm not. I'm happy. I figured DAP and everybody
hanging out, Yeah, for sure, like it's all fun and
games and where I get a little belligerent though, what
is belligerate? My guy?
Speaker 1 (20:10):
One time when I was out for my cousins. Uh,
he went out the night before it's wed. That was
a bad night and a bad morning. No, not necessarily
a bad night, but that was a bad morning. But
like it was Halloween and you know, trying to take
somebody's man, you're walking hot. Yeah, so you want to
test people. See, that's that's dangerous. That's dangerous. No, I mean,
(20:32):
you know I don't do it often, but we were
just out, and that just tells you what type of
night it was.
Speaker 2 (20:36):
I would not do anything like that anymore.
Speaker 7 (20:39):
Please tell me that you tried to do it to
an adult and that you did not try to do
it to a small child.
Speaker 1 (20:44):
Well, I would hope that there were no small children
out at like one o'clock in the morning uptown.
Speaker 2 (20:49):
Sean.
Speaker 7 (20:50):
Specify that you can't just be like you said, I
tried to rip someone's mask off.
Speaker 2 (20:54):
I don't know. I didn't say they're on their third
run and going around and changing into a different costume
getting candy at one o'clock.
Speaker 1 (21:04):
I thought I just saw you. No, that was uh,
I mean I want all the candy. Yeah, they're going
to be out at night.
Speaker 2 (21:09):
I know people that did that. I had some friends
where I swear my my friend's parents would take their
kids out for one round around the neighborhood. They'd come
back home, they'd change costumes, and they'd go right back
around their neighborhood for a second term. I mean they
would have pounds of candy. They would have a lot. Yeah,
parents got to eat too. Man got to look out
(21:31):
for the rents. That's how it goes around Halloween. Can
I call it? Can I call it audible? Just real quickly?
We probably should talk a little about a little about
NC State ECU tonight before we get to the walk off.
It is clearly on tap, but we should probably talk
about that game. When we were going over e CU
team week and then going over NC State, we were
(21:53):
talking about the spread. You thought the spread would be close.
I didn't think it'd be this big. I thought it
would be when I was playing guests the spread, I
was probably like six and a half or seven. I
thought they'd probably be a touchdown favorite. NC State is
a two touchdown favorite? Is it still thirteen and a half?
That's what it was at the last time?
Speaker 3 (22:10):
I believe, so I will take a look here.
Speaker 2 (22:14):
Thoughts on the game. Are you surprised to see NC
State this big of a favorite? And if so, then
is Vegas misguided in putting that line out there?
Speaker 6 (22:23):
Man?
Speaker 1 (22:23):
It's always hard to kind of question what Vegas is
doing because a line like that, especially when it goes
against what your conventional thinking is, then you start to wonder,
what do they know? Okay, but this East Carolina football team,
you know, they weren't the most explosive team, and they
did turn the ball over a ton last season, but
they were able to take care of North Carolina State
(22:44):
in their bowl game. But I guess they figure in
Raleigh State having a little bit of revenge on that side,
or maybe they're like what NC State brings to the table?
To me tonight, it's easy for me, what does this
passing attack look like? Okay, I know what they expect
from Justin Jolly, but from these why receivers, somebody's got
to step up and become the alpha, and then they
need to all fall in line after that. Because you know,
(23:07):
Noel Rogers, with him being a high five star when
he came out of school, what does he look like
Wesley Grimes, I'm not sure that he's gonna ever fulfill
his immense promise.
Speaker 2 (23:16):
Even though they're cappit.
Speaker 1 (23:17):
I mean, even though they're saying that, you know, he
runs what a four to two?
Speaker 2 (23:20):
I think they said, uh.
Speaker 3 (23:22):
You know, even fans were like, yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (23:25):
Yeah, Terrell Anderson, now he's fast, but yeah, I don't
know if he's that fast. But to me, for ins
he State and again just going off of what happened
last year, they started the season and all season long,
they weren't that great upfront on either side of the ball,
and that's been a hallmark of Dave Dorn. So will
they be that much better upfront against the East Carolina team?
You know they run that three three five, So it's
(23:46):
gonna get funky. They can get exotic. But I'm gonna
kind of listen to Vegas a little bit. I think
they know a little something.
Speaker 2 (23:52):
What do you think founder Does Vegas know what they're
talking about with this one?
Speaker 7 (23:56):
I mean, I would like to say no, but it
feels like anytime that you doubt Vegas, they always find
a way to be right. I find it hard to
believe though, that this game is going to be I
see it right now according to the Action Network as
a fourteen point spread.
Speaker 1 (24:13):
Well, it could be one of those deals too. West
States as is up seven in the fourth quarter right
maybe middle of the fourth, late and the fourth and
then they scored that last touchdown to get them over.
Speaker 7 (24:23):
That could be how it Well, it would be even,
it'd be even, it'd be right at it.
Speaker 1 (24:27):
Yeah, But just saying that that did just spread, that
could be how we get there.
Speaker 2 (24:30):
Yeah. ACU has been a thorn in the side of
NC State that's just been true. It was true last
year at the end of the season. We've seen this
happen a couple of times.
Speaker 7 (24:37):
All yeah, true a few years ago to severely beat them.
Speaker 2 (24:40):
So is everything so new now that you just throw
that out the window. I don't necessarily think so. I
do wonder about I know everybody's looking at Blake Carroll
and seeing the spotlight on him being now the full
time head coach, the interim title that is removed. So
now here we are with Blake Carroll going into a
pretty monster season opener against NC State. It'll be back
(25:03):
to back games they played against the wolf Pack, so
already you would think that's probably more of an advantage
for the wolf Pack having lost to ECU the last time.
I will say, when we were doing our research over
ECU team week, you start to look at John David Baker,
the offensive coordinator for the Pirates, and this looks like
the type of guy that would orchestrated offense good enough
(25:25):
with Kayden Howser back after playing as well as he
did last year, and John David Baker could parlay this
season into a head coaching job somewhere. I think he's
that good he's been on some really impressive offenses and
previous stops, and the fact that he was the orchestrator
of what they were able to do last year when
he was in charge and he's back. I think talking
to Jim z Okie about this as well. On the
(25:46):
sideline at Panthers Brown's joint practice, John David Baker might
not be there after this season is over. That's the
kind of respect that he garners and so, okay, you
don't have your defensive coordinator guru Tony Gibson anymore. It's
not like they were amazing last year. But I think
that's the matchup. It's the game of chess between the
(26:07):
defensive coordinator and offensive coordinator in this game for the Pirates,
where if the Pirates win, I think it's gonna be
because they put up points. Yeah, no doubt about it.
Speaker 1 (26:15):
And East Carolina, you know they've had some decent defenses,
but you know they've had some losses as well, and
so this game tonight also is going to be huge
for CJ. Bailey because there are a lot of people
that still question if he is the unquestioned leader of
this NC State football program and the quarterback of the future.
So he's got a lot of questions that he needs
(26:37):
to answer tonight. I feel like I know that Hollywood's
Mothers is going to have an impact on this game
in some form or fashion.
Speaker 2 (26:44):
But like I said, CJ.
Speaker 1 (26:45):
Bailey, this is a big one for him tonight to
try to start to answer those questions and continue on
with the good momentum I felt like he built towards
the end of the year.
Speaker 2 (26:54):
We can give our predictions in the walk off once
we really start to explore what's on tap, but before then,
we got to play at least a little bit of
sound in today's edition of the Live Wire hit at Floundy,
which you got for the people in the West and
the rob Rock and neeg A.
Speaker 7 (27:16):
All right, and we go to the head coach of
the Carolina Panthers. Dave Canal is speaking yesterday talking about
his kicker situation, and oh yeah, man, he is fired
up about Ryan Fitzgerald being the kicker.
Speaker 2 (27:27):
He's our kicker right now.
Speaker 4 (27:28):
But again, we're going to take this thing week to week,
you know, and and look see how he's doing and
kind of just continue to look on look at what's
out there, and and we'll make the right decisions for
the Panthers as we go along with this.
Speaker 6 (27:39):
Thing doesn't sound like a real strong vote of confidence.
Speaker 2 (27:42):
Was there something in preseason that gave you pause?
Speaker 4 (27:45):
I would say the same thing for any other kicker
that was here this year. The performance type of league,
you know, and these opportunities. There are so many guys
out there that want these jobs. There's there's more kickers
than there are spots, you know, on the thirty two teams,
and so again it's that comp petition and this is
a good moment for him to take advantage of this
opportunity that he has.
Speaker 7 (28:05):
All Right, So what do you guys think about this
ringing endorsement of Ryan Fitzgerald as he gets ready for
Week one?
Speaker 6 (28:11):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (28:11):
Man, I mean the Panthers are going to need him,
and you know, he won a battle that many people
still aren't that confident in him coming into this contest.
So I feel like for him, we know that kickers
can get released at the drop of a hat unless
you're just a guy that's a Pro Bowl caliber player
and you make it year in year out. But this guy,
(28:32):
I don't think necessarily that he is safe. And so
we'll see, man, because if he comes out and he's
breaking them against Jacksonville.
Speaker 2 (28:39):
He could be out as soon as he earned a job.
You never want to hear right now when people are
talking about it exactly, They never want to hear that.
Just put a period before the right now, he's our kicker, Okay, cool?
Right now? Immediately good feelings go out the window. I
don't feel good about it anymore if i'm Ryan Fitzgerald,
and honestly you shouldn't. He didn't have a good training camp.
I think what's saved Tom his job, which I guess
(29:01):
isn't a small thing. What saved him his job is
the fifty yarder in the second preseason game, matthew Wright
missing his fifty yard opportunity when they both kicked in
the game preseason game, but when they both kicked in
the game, Fitzgerald was perfect, matthew Wright was not. Also,
I think everything was pointing towards we want the younger
kicker to be our kicker. And if we want it
(29:21):
to happen and you didn't wow us on the other end,
then we're probably just gonna go with the FSU guy
that we had high expectations for. They didn't draft him,
but they brought him in immediately. They clearly zeroed in
on who their kicking target was and they were hoping
for it to happen. Didn't go as well as planned.
I do think that they're gonna live with some bumps
(29:41):
in the road just for a little tiny bit because
they want it so badly to work out. But if
you're a kicker, you don't have much patient. Even the
best kickers in the game. Coaches don't have a lot
of patience for the missing kicks. And we'll see what
happens there with the rookie.
Speaker 7 (29:55):
What you got, ploun Well, what's interesting is on my
way into the studio, Colin told me I'm the producer
of this show for now.
Speaker 3 (30:01):
So now I'm a little concerned.
Speaker 2 (30:03):
I'm not gonna lie. If I'm gonna be honest with you,
that's not a good sign. Just know I didn't put
anything in his ear.
Speaker 7 (30:11):
Okay, okay, I trust I somewhat trust you. I didn't
put anything in his ear. I say, you're our producer, period,
end of story. Right now, I like it all right.
Dan Morgan speaking today, he was talking about the state
of the linebacker position and explains why they did not
make a move after Josie Jewel left the room.
Speaker 5 (30:31):
Yeah, I think, like on the waiver wire, like I
really don't want to make a move just to make
a move, you know.
Speaker 6 (30:37):
And and I like our linebacker core.
Speaker 5 (30:41):
You know, Trevin Wallace, the way that he's developing and
looking out there.
Speaker 6 (30:46):
Rose Boom out there.
Speaker 5 (30:48):
He's everything we thought he'd be, you know, the smart
vettering guy. He's got great instincts. So we feel really
good about our two starters. And then Claude Cherlis. We've
been developing him now for a couple years and he's making.
Speaker 6 (31:01):
Strides out there too.
Speaker 5 (31:04):
And then obviously we kept the young, you know, the
young undrafted rookie out of South Carolina, Bam Martin Scott.
Really talented kid. It will help us on special teams.
He's still us to develop from a defensive standpoint, but
we're really excited about him.
Speaker 2 (31:21):
All right.
Speaker 7 (31:21):
So how confident are you guys in this linebacking corps
that Carolina has put together.
Speaker 1 (31:26):
Not very I need to be able to see something
from him. I'm not saying that I think that they're
not good at all. I just need to see it.
But you know, teams run the ball pretty decent against them.
In the preseason games that they played. Trevor Wallace. I
know that he can be a thumper, and I know
he's got great athleticism, but can he use that athleticism
to become a complete linebacker. We talked about Christen Rosemann
(31:48):
when we know that he's a tackling machine, but can
he show this year that he can consistently be able
to get out there and cover as well? And so
I think that's going to be interesting. And then the
no tackle position for the Carolina Panthers, I'm not sure
how good that's going to be, which also is going
to affect these guys very much. But they do have
some pretty decent protection with Derek Brown up there, he'll
(32:09):
be able to take up a couple of bodies. But
right now, I'm just very, very uncertain about this lineback
and corps.
Speaker 2 (32:15):
It's the group I'm least confident in compared to every
other group offensively and defensively. Cornerbacks, I think they fare
out a little better than what I thought about them
a month ago. Safeties, same thing, especially with the play
of Leathan Ransom. Offensive line, defensive line, every other group
I'm more confident in than the linebacker position. And Josie
Jewele leaving this team, not that when he left, we
(32:36):
thought that it was going to be this monumental absence
that the Panthers could not get over, but underrated storyline.
We addressed it, then we moved on, and I think
I think we did that because again, he's not a
pro bowler. But I would still say if he was
on this roster now, i'd probably call him our best linebacker.
I think so, and I would hope that Trevin Wallace
(32:57):
would take that away from him, But right now, I
would probably call Josie Jewel the best linebacker on the team.
If you're talking about them being successful because of what
the guys in front of them are going to do
and not because of what they're going to do, I
think that says all you need to know about our
feelings about those guys in the middle of the defense.
We've got time for another sound by it. Let's go
(33:18):
ahead and play one. What you got for us?
Speaker 6 (33:19):
Flounder?
Speaker 7 (33:19):
All right, let's hear Drew Brees tell you why the
Saints are going to be great this year.
Speaker 8 (33:24):
Look, I think we're poison ready to make a statement
in the NFC South this year. I mean there's no
dominant team in the NFC South. Yes, the Tampa Bay
Bucks have won the division the last couple of years
in a row. Hearing Baker Mayfield is you know, by
for the most established quarterback and playing really well. The
rest of the teams have young maybe not quite as
(33:45):
established starters, you know, Bryce Young and Carolina who finished
the season really strong last year. You know, I love
his journey in the adversity that he overcame last year.
And they're an up and coming team. But Michael Pennix
kind of starts that era in Atlanta and here we
go Spencer Ratler, you know, getting his opportunity with the Saints,
I think top to bottom of the Saints roster is
really really strong. One of the best offensive lines in football,
(34:07):
one of the most dynamic running backs in Alvin Kamara
who can do everything for you, and then two extremely
explosive receivers in Olave and Shaheed, not to mention a
lot of other pieces of the puzzle. Defensively tons of
great veteran leadership and presence, and Tomorrow Davis cam tons
of younger.
Speaker 2 (34:22):
I had I've had enough. I've had enough.
Speaker 7 (34:26):
Do you believe that the Saints have any chance of
competing in this division this year, And I said competing,
not even winning the division.
Speaker 1 (34:34):
Yeah, I do because I think that when you look
at it again, I always preface it.
Speaker 2 (34:39):
It's the NFL.
Speaker 8 (34:40):
Man.
Speaker 1 (34:40):
You never know what these teams are going to bring it.
So we talked about yesterday how Kevin Banks showed trait
to being an anchor on the offensive line, which has
been something that has been plaguing them. So maybe he
stabilizes that line. But Drew Brees is right about the
receiver position being there. He is right that Alvin Kamara
I don't feel like has lost anything. The defense will
be into to see, but they do have vets and
(35:01):
they do have some young players that they like over
there as well. I think the key to this season
for them obviously is the quarterback position with Spencer Rattler.
How does he play now? If I had to bet
on if I think New Orleans is going to be
a good team, I would probably say no. But they
are a team that I think that there are enough
guys that they can be feisty. Like, I don't think
you're walking into the superdomin this is an easy win.
(35:24):
I don't think they're pulling up to your stadium, and
this is going to be a gimme victory unless Spencer
Ratler straight tracks. Because they do have some players on
that roster, on that depth chart that can hurt you.
Speaker 2 (35:34):
Yeah, I'd be pretty surprised if the Saints are competing.
I think they're going to be a bottom five team
in the NFL. And I do think that they do
have some talent in the receiving room. But Drew Brees
also said they have one of the best offensive lines
in football. That's just not true. What is he talking about. Yeah,
you got Kelvin Banks. Let's just say he's an automatic hit,
which isn't true, but let's just go ahead and say
he's an automatic hit. Now you have Fuaga, who wasn't
(35:57):
in crazy impressive last year. Even if we can maybe
believe in his talent, he wasn't amazing last year. Trevor
Penning I think is not a good pass blocker. That guy. Yeah,
he's sliding in at a guard because of that exactly.
And that's one thing I always think is misguided. It's
like the bad starting pitcher that just goes to being
a relief pitcher and you think, okay, well, now all
(36:17):
of his problems are solved. Okay, sometimes it works and
it's not a foregone conclusion that you're going to have
the next Mackai Becton putting him on the inside. So
Trevor Penning just moving inside? Are you giving up pressure
quickly because you have moved to the inside? And Seesar
Ruiz is somebody that you're not trusting nearly as much?
The best offensive line one of them in football?
Speaker 1 (36:37):
Yeah, he was on PFF has them number twenty two
as we come into the season.
Speaker 2 (36:41):
And they were one of the best worst run blocking
units in all of football last year for Spencer Rattler.
As you're starting QB. I like their skill players, I
really do. I've said as much. I like some of
the defensive pieces. I don't think that they're all Jags.
I think they do have some talent, not enough to compete,
not in my opinion. All right, that'll do it. The
walk off coming up next Sports Radio ninety two to
(37:02):
seven WFNZ.
Speaker 6 (37:13):
You challenge for me to walk off.
Speaker 2 (37:17):
Oh yeah, that's a walk off challenge, my friend. It's
a walk off.
Speaker 6 (37:25):
The walk off.
Speaker 2 (37:26):
You got some football to talk about? What's on tap?
Finally some football action? Got some ball tonight? What's on tappers?
It up by Twin Peaks. Twin Peaks has locations in
Concord and Fort Mill. Twin Peaks is your local sports lodge.
Come in from Made from scratch food and signature twenty
nine degree draft Beers. Two acc teams in action tonight.
Not only is in c State playing ECU, but Duke
(37:49):
will play Elon. Let's go with the latter first. How
many points do you think Duke wins spot?
Speaker 1 (37:54):
I think this will be interesting new quarterback coming in
and we know sometimes it can be some hiccups against
the Phoenix because Duke hasn't been overly impressive in some
of their openers lately against the subpart teams that they
have played. I think that they will be, but I
feel like they'll take it easy, like it'll be like
thirty five seven or something like that, maybe forty two,
(38:16):
maybe they get into the forties.
Speaker 7 (38:18):
I literally said before the show thirty four to seven
as the final score of that game. I'm going to
say that I do not believe that Duke will cover
because I think it's what like thirty three, thirty four,
somewhere in that range. I don't think they cover, but
they will still comfortably win this game. I think Duke
fans will walk out feeling good about where their season
(38:40):
is headed.
Speaker 2 (38:40):
I'm seeing thirty six right now.
Speaker 3 (38:43):
That's way too high for me. That's too high for me.
Speaker 2 (38:45):
They at thirty six, all right, so you're going thirty
five seven, you're going thirty four. Let's get interesting. I'll
go thirty three. Oh see, he gets it right, thirty
three seven. How do you get there? You got four touchdown?
It's gonna be a field goal in safety? All right,
we get a safety in this game. The football game
that most people are excited about tonight around here, it's
NC State ECU. NC State a thirteen and a half
(39:07):
point favorite in this one. We talked about it a
little bit last segment. We did not give our official prediction.
This is the time, Wes, who you're going with? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (39:15):
I think in C State will win, and I think
that they will get a late touchdown to get to
that double digit victory.
Speaker 2 (39:21):
But what is it?
Speaker 1 (39:22):
Fourteen and a half, thirteen and a half, thirteen and
a half. Yeah, I think that they will get a
late squad. I think this will be a tight one
all the way up until and then I think late
in the game, State will get that final touchdown and.
Speaker 2 (39:33):
Not all that unlike the Western Carolina victory that they
had last year, where it was it was very close.
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (39:40):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (39:41):
Better victory though.
Speaker 2 (39:42):
I don't know. Yeah, yeah, yeah, sorry, Smoke, who's in
the studio right now? Come on, even you can admit
that telling Flattery's number one? What you got over there?
Speaker 3 (39:53):
Yeah, I think.
Speaker 2 (39:56):
I like.
Speaker 7 (39:56):
I like State to win the game, but I like
ECU to cover. I think it'll be a close game.
I think it'll probably be within seven points because that's
how these two teams have played each other here recently.
I expect some ugly moments in this game too. There
could be some Dawny brooks.
Speaker 2 (40:12):
Oh, you expect more of it.
Speaker 7 (40:13):
I hey, man, they don't forget about what happened last year.
I know there's gonna be guys that are going to
be suspended to start the game, but I never know, Man,
these two like to mix it up.
Speaker 2 (40:22):
Wes, you mentioned last segment, big game for CJ. Bailey
to just get the ball rolling. I agree with you.
I believe in CJ. Bailey. We talked about Tim Alvin
providing a bar earlier. I forget what he even said.
It's like you got to be he said, calm Breed's calm,
there you go, okay, which is so true. That's that's
your bar from Tim Albin. I had a bar that
I really liked from CJ. Bailey when he said in
(40:44):
the huddle on the final drive against Carolina, don't look left,
don't look right, look at me. M Yeah, okay, I'm
in a leader.
Speaker 6 (40:53):
I'm in.
Speaker 2 (40:54):
I'm in on CJ. Bailey. I think that's a perfect
SoundBite that you played of there, Floundy. That's myself. I
hate this. I know, okay, yeah, I know, I know.
It's probably what you said in response to CJ. Bailey
telling us what he said in that huddle against Carolina.
I think NC State wins, and I think I kind
(41:14):
of feel the same way you do. West. I think
he cu covers I'll say, and I think just barely.
But I think NC State ends up winning. We'll say
by thirteen points. Final score for me, Let's go n
C State thirty one and then give me ECU twenty four. Okay,
(41:35):
I guess there are twenty thirty one, twenty thirty one,
twenty that's where I'll go in okay, eleven.
Speaker 1 (41:41):
If I pick them to win by fourteen. Their games
are a kind of dog fights. I'll go n C
State twenty eight to fourteen. Okay, what you got over there?
Speaker 3 (41:56):
Twenty eight twenty one, Yeah, twenty eight twenty one.
Speaker 2 (41:58):
Okay, so you're going a little closer. You're going still
a little closer at thirty one twenty for me. So yeah,
I guess I'll go eleven point spread, all right. And finally, baseball,
Braves Phillies. I don't even know if anybody wants to
hear this with football back tonight. Sorry Braves fans, Uh,
no one can. Yeah, sixty five first pitch, it's cal quadtrill. Yes,
(42:18):
how I pronounced it. It looks like it's the only
way that you could. But every time I see I'm
sure I would mispronounce it.
Speaker 7 (42:23):
Well, you tried to go with Gusto or Goosto yesterday.
I have no idea, still don't know.
Speaker 2 (42:28):
And quandtroll. That's who I'm going with, cal quandtrill. Maybe
maybe that sounds a little better. He's four and eleven
on the year for the Braves. He's on the bump.
Aaron Nola, I know that one he's on the mound
for the Phillies and uh Man rough go for Aaron
Nola who was once a baller for Philadelphia. I didn't
not realize that.
Speaker 7 (42:45):
Philly's coming off a nice sweep by the Mets. That's
right there, you go suck it.
Speaker 2 (42:50):
Yeah, people are telling you, wow, I hate the Phillies.
We know you. Do You ready for the Kyle Bailey Show.
