Speaker 1 (00:00):
Is the Wesson Walker Show, and a moral lesson is
told at the end of each episode. One notable episode
is one called The Price, in which a boy buys
a drug called spin.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
He was smoking that spin It's Wes.

Speaker 1 (00:12):
Becomes addicted to it and dies of an overdose. We
need Walk cartoons like that these days.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
For these badass and Walker. Would these kids die of drugs? Yes,
so they can learn their lesson and know not to
do it. If somebody fictional dies, they'll learn not to
do it in canon fiction. You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
For that reason, Marshall braistaf Tech Text New Texas is
straight fire. I had to act some think of bracest off,
but Ma, Ma wouldn't let me get text hit only
On Sports Radio ninety two point seven FM wfn Z, Oh.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
Come on, mom, why didn't you do this? They said
it was too demonic. Well maybe it's because a kid
died of drugs. One more hour to go at Sports
Radio ninety two to seven WFNZ. WESN. Walker Flound filling
in for Wes as today and this week's co host
with Wes just taking some time off. Don't got to

(01:06):
worry about Wes Man He's just taken the week off
before he comes back next week from twelve to three
on your favorite midday show on WFNZ ninety two seven FM,
or broadcasting live from the Channel vaulta studio CBE Injury
Law dot Com. CEBE Injury Law dot Com. One call.
That's all the Carolinas personal injury lawyers with Flounderby and

(01:26):
the renaissance man that he is, Bordop producer, co host.
He's also the breaking news anchor when he plays the SoundBite.
He did that a little bit ago and said, Adam
Thelen was waived by Minnesota. Yeah, that's right. Adam Thlen
waved by the Minnesota Vikings today, just one day after
he was a healthy scratch in the team's twenty six
to zhering loss to the Seahawks on Sunday. It was

(01:49):
quite the storyline when he was the healthy scratch, and
now it's quite the storyline the fact that Thelin is
no longer a Minnesota Viking. I went through some of
the stats that he accumulated through the eleven games that
he was active, sixteen targets, eight catches, sixty nine yards.
The big one to me is that he's dropped three passes,

(02:09):
meaning that he has a twenty seven percent drop rate.
Antheling out the shore handed receiver or the producer they
thought he would be when the Vikings gave all of
that up to go get a wide receiver that they
were very familiar with. And when I say all of that,
it's not just the fourth round pick. The Panthers received

(02:30):
a twenty twenty six fifth round pick, a twenty twenty
seven fourth round selection, a twenty twenty six conditional seventh,
and a twenty twenty seven to fifth, So two fifths
in twenty six and twenty seven, a fourth in twenty seven,
and a seventh in twenty six. Unreal, man, you got
all of that for a guy that played in eleven

(02:52):
games and only has eight catches to his name. Here's
the weird part when we really start chronicling everything that
took place from training camp to when we thought Adam
Thlen might be on his way out with some of
these stories. Remember the first time we really ramped the
story up. It was when Kevin O'Connell was on with

(03:12):
Kay Adams on up In Adams and Kay asked Kevin
O'Connell about the Thelin rumors. And he started laughing, and
he started smiling. Oh okay, there's something going on here. Cool.
Sure enough, we see Adam Delen's wife posting on social
media that she wants to go back to Minnesota, the
purple background, all of it. She jumped the gun a
little bit thinking that they were going to go to Minnesota.

(03:34):
Psych not quite yet. Dan Morgan does it like the deal,
it's not one hundred percent of his liking. And then
eventually the Thelans they go back home. Well, we thought
maybe he just wanted to go home and have a
shot to compete. I still think those things are true,
except the competing part seems to matter most. I'm sorry,

(03:55):
the playing part on a competitive team seems to matter most.
Rather going back closer to family. It's the former that
matters most. Because we got Quasia Dofo Mensa saying we're
moving on from Thelen, and then Adam Thlen actually released
something himself in what I find to be an interesting statement,

(04:15):
he says, it's tremendously difficult for me to write and
certainly not how any of us imagined this to go.
As a Minnesota native putting on this uniform over the
years representing the community, both on and off the field.
It's always meant so meant much to me. We moved down.
We moved down. Since this past spring, I knew this
was going to be my last season playing in the NFL,
given that the Vikings allowed the opportunity to go compete

(04:37):
elsewhere for the last few weeks of my career. This
is what's so weird about all of it. You clearly
wanted out of Carolina, the thought of competing in your hometown.
It mattered to you. I'm sure it would matter to
a lot of people. Even Minnesota seemed excited to have you.
This is where it doesn't quite add up to me,
because Minnesota seemed happy they gave up a lot to

(05:01):
go have you produce for them, show up in the
absence of Jordan Addison the first couple of weeks, and
even contribute after the fact, and you have it. He
was a healthy scratch. Kevin O'Connell was giddy to have you.
So off that team that wants it to work out
so badly this year still can't find you an active jersey,

(05:22):
and you want to go be an actual player on
a competitive team. Man, you aren't a player on a
non competitive team. You expect one of these Super Bowl contenders,
a playoff contender to say, yeah, we got a roll
for you, when Minnesota didn't, when they were incentivized to
give you a jersey on game day and they still
didn't want to do it this past weekend. This is

(05:46):
not He's right about this the first sentence. It's not
how any of us imagined this to go. That's true
of me and clearly that's true of the feelings. Yeah,
oh that's one hundred percent true.

Speaker 3 (05:57):
And that's the thing is how big is his market
at actually going to be? Is this basically Deontay Johnson
where he thinks there's going to be this huge market
for him and there really isn't, Or is he going
to go out there and all of a sudden is
he the key to you know, the Chiefs being able
to compete? Is he, you know, an important guy that

(06:18):
the Buccaneers can particular potentially pick up.

Speaker 4 (06:21):
Someone like that.

Speaker 3 (06:22):
Maybe maybe that ends up working out for him, But
if it doesn't, it's just I mean, you're you're gonna
be fluttering out there.

Speaker 4 (06:29):
I mean, your career.

Speaker 3 (06:31):
There is a chance that your career is over right now,
because if you're just hell bent on going to a contender.
I don't know how many contenders are dying to bring
in Adam Thelen At this point.

Speaker 2 (06:43):
I apologize. I want to be clear. I got the
picks wrong. I've got the compensation wrong. It was a
twenty twenty six fifth and a twenty twenty seven to
fourth for Adam Thielen, and the Panthers gave up specifically
that twenty twenty seven fifth. I apologize. I thought that
was weird when I read it from Joe. I read
it wrong. I just want to be clear that they
did not get two fifths right, and well, yes, I

(07:04):
just want to be clear for the people that are listening.
So just to be clear, Panthers received a twenty twenty
six fifth round pick and a twenty twenty seven fourth
round pick for Adam Thielen, a twenty twenty sixth conditional
seventh which will remain a seventh, and a twenty twenty
seven to fifth, which makes it a lot more palatable
for Minnesota. But you do lose net a fourth round

(07:24):
selection for the most part, and that's still not something
that you would have done had theling only given you
this level of production. The point overall, that still stands.
I just was drastically wrong on the back end of that.
Even still, that is a team incentivized to have you produce,
and you just weren't able to do it even if
you had all of these opportunities. So I just wonder what, Yeah,

(07:46):
Like I is this just going to be an unfortunate
crash at the end of the career. And I do
wonder how badly he's affected by that injury that he suffered.
Remember last year when he went to ir Like, is
that something at play or we com lately moved on
from that? Is this good old fashioned father time that's
just settling in in a very rude way and abrupt way.

(08:06):
I have all these questions, even for me, who understood
trading Adam Thlen the way that they did. I thought
it was a smart move. Then I think it's more
than a smart move now. I didn't think it was
going to go this poorly for theling in Minnesota. No,
no one said this.

Speaker 3 (08:21):
I mean, I get it people are saying that we're
trashing him a little bit too much here, but I
mean he has been just downright horrible in Minnesota. He
did not do anything this year, and remember the timing
of when they brought him in was when you had
guys on the shelf to where he was your number one,

(08:41):
number two option early in the season. So, I mean
that's the thing is that he never produced then even now,
you would think that he would be at least the
fourth receiver in the pecking order to get a jersey.
But the thing that you have to wonder was he
scratched because he's not playing well, That certainly is on
the table, or was he scratched because he is making

(09:03):
a deal out of Hey, I want to get out
of here, and that's.

Speaker 2 (09:06):
Fair, but it also doesn't matter. Yeah you got eight catches, man,
it doesn't matter. Bagel Guy says he thinks we're being
a little too hard. As you mentioned, some of the
people thinks they think we're trashing him too much. Look,
I'm not even really trying to trash him. The dude
hasn't been productive. Justin Jefferson stats are down. We know
him to be outrageously good at football. Jordan Addison actually

(09:30):
had some really nice games when he came back from
his suspension where he was getting targeted. He was a
red zone threat. He had I think a few games
in a row where he had a touchdown. It's been
two to three catches a game since then. Quarterback play
is horrible, no doubt about it. But I didn't still
expect this to be what Adam Thielen's last year in
the NFL looked like. And does he still have enough

(09:51):
for another team to say we want him? And it
has to be a competitive team, right, because I can't
imagine you have the Saints who wants some wide receiver.
Hell to let's say improve quarterback play with Tyler Shuck, Hey,
we'll give you another VET receiver out of THELAN doesn't
want to go to that team. So if he goes
to a competitive team New England, this is the funniest one.

(10:11):
I did want to get to this. Somebody wrote in
my God, could you imagine if he went to Tampa Bay?
To me, the reason that's funny one it's a division rival.
THELAN used to play for the Panthers. But also are
the Buccaneers so afraid of the Panthers that they want
every little morsel of information possible they bring in THELAN.

(10:34):
They have two games ahead of Carolina or ahead with Carolina,
THELAN gives them the goods on what it is that
canal Is really likes and Todd Bowles already knows right
like they don't. Todd Bowles hired this guy as his
offensive coordinator. I'm sure THELAN could give them a little
bit more information on all of it, but that would
only further the point that THELAN has had this monster

(10:56):
fall from grace in the eyes of Panthers fans. If
he goes to Tampa and then actually does anything with
Tampa to keep the Panthers from the playoff race, man.

Speaker 3 (11:05):
Oh, he would be I I just he would be
up there amongst the guys that were hated man, like.

Speaker 2 (11:10):
Some of the bigger traders indirectly, Yes, that we could
possibly have, he'd.

Speaker 4 (11:15):
Be right there, probably with like di'angelo man, because.

Speaker 2 (11:17):
He didn't want to play here anymore. That's documented. He
wanted out. Yep, Panthers weren't looking to trade Adam Thlen.
He wanted out. So if he wants out, goes to
Minnesota once out from there, goes to Tampa, helps him
keep Carolina from a postseason appearance, that would be nuts

(11:38):
and would be up there. You're right with some of
the athletes that we disliked the most here, and I
think so, right tell me if I'm off base there
Fandal text line seven oh four five seven ninety six
to ten. We can read some of those text messages
on the other side as well as get into the
live wire. And I do want to talk some Charlotte Hornets.
That's all still to come on Weston Walker, West and

(12:13):
Walker Backsports Radio ninety two seven WFNZ. Thanks for joining
us on a Monday, just about forty more minutes left
to go of Weston Walker before Kyle Bailey takes over
and he talks about all of his thoughts watching the
Carolina Panthers beat the LA Rams thirty one to twenty eight. Unbelievable.
I can't believe they were able to get this done,

(12:34):
but they did, especially with the up and down nature
of the season, the offense looking the way that it
did against San fran and New Orleans. But we knew
they were capable of putting points on the board with
what they did against Atlanta and now LA. Yeah, one
of those touchdowns was a pick six, but all the
other ones they were touchdown passes. The swing route to Cuba,

(12:55):
the fourth down dime to Jalen Cocher and it was
a dime, and so was the t mac throw you
we haven't man, we should look. There's too many things
to get to today. It's wild Bryce Young, the way
that he performed Dave Canalis's play calling, Cuba and Rico
the Chico backfield. They looked fantastic, they looked and Cuba

(13:15):
looked like the best running back between the two. The
fact that he's coming back and returning to form the
way that he looked last year. Now you have a
two headed monster. The supporting cast seems to be getting
better with Jalen Cocher performing the way that he did. Yeah,
not a lot from Xcel even still, but the tight
ends got involved. Dave Canallos really did check off a

(13:35):
lot of boxes that we wanted to see from a
play calling standpoint, and I think we commend him for that.
We're broadcasting live from the Chandeler vaulta studio CV Injury
Law dot Com, CEV Injury Law dot Com. One call.
That's all the Carolina's personal injury lawyers. You ready to
go with the live wire here? Ready to play some sound?

Speaker 3 (13:52):
Ah?

Speaker 2 (13:52):
Yes, all right, time now for the live wire with floundc.

Speaker 5 (13:57):
Hold on.

Speaker 2 (14:00):
Year.

Speaker 4 (14:00):
It agoes took it in a minute.

Speaker 5 (14:02):
They said, the west and the west of North down
live wise guy.

Speaker 3 (14:07):
All right, and let's start with the little hornets here
because we haven't talked about them yet here today. But
Charles Lee was talking after the win on Saturday over
the Toronto Raptors. He was asked about juggling the minute
restrictions while trying to make a comeback in that game.
Of course, the minted restrictions. He's talking about both Lamello
Ball and Brandon Miller. How did he juggle it?

Speaker 5 (14:28):
Yeah, you just have to, I think, keep the process,
the long term vision in mind, even when you're in
these moments. We want to win this game, obviously, every
game we want to win really badly, and I think
that those two guys obviously help you do it. But
we do have really good depth, and so you lean
on that depth in moments like this and the maturity
of those two guys to understand that there is a
bigger picture and trying to maximize their availability. I thought

(14:51):
they did a good job of staying engaged even if
they had to sit out for longer stretches than they're
used to, and then when they come in the game,
they had an impact.

Speaker 2 (14:59):
You know.

Speaker 5 (14:59):
I thought the that was huge for them, and I
look at this box scorn, I'm glad that they're where
they at and we'll see how they recover after their
first back to back in a while. So really happy
with the process and also their approach and maturity to dealing.

Speaker 2 (15:12):
With it well.

Speaker 3 (15:14):
So for the first question is how excited were you
to see that they played in a back to back
both guys were back out there and played in both
of those games. And second, what did you think about
how Charles Lee managed their minutes while trying to make
it come back against the rapt.

Speaker 2 (15:27):
But Buddy, there is a lot a lot to comb
through with what the Hornets experience. We have not done
a show since Street Turkeys last week, and once we
got off of the air, we had to go watch
the Hornets play the Knicks. They got beat down by
the Knicks at home, and what I think was the
most embarrassing loss of the season. I thought LaMelo gave
us the most embarrassing performance that he had given us

(15:48):
all season long, and that was after what I thought
was a terrible performance against Indiana. I thought he was way, way,
way worse against the Knicks. So the minutes restriction, I'll answer. First,
I do like the minister straight. It clearly matters more
to have LaMelo appear in as many games as possible
Brandon Miller to appear in as many games as possible.

(16:09):
So LaMelo playing the twenty nine minutes that he did
against Chicago seven minutes less against Toronto. There is some
conversation about whether he got benched and Charles Lee is
hiding behind the minutes restriction as to why he only
played twenty two minutes. It is the lowest amount that
he's played so far. Remember it's the second night of
a back to back, and Brandon Miller also played seven

(16:29):
less minutes than he did the first time playing against Chicago.
So I think it does line up, even if you
can hide behind it if you want to. LaMelo wasn't
playing well against Toronto. I think the effort was there.
I think he was looking for other guys and getting
them involved. But he's not hitting a bunch of shots
fair enough. I understand why you have the minutes restriction here,
and Brandon Miller really struggled shooting the ball against Toronto

(16:51):
to be fair, one of thirteen from the field, oh
of six from three point land. Not very good yet
this is where we get to the other side, they responded.
In my opinion, after having that terrible loss against the Knicks,
I flounder. That was as frustrated as I've ever been
with LaMelo Ball. I thought he checked out. I didn't

(17:13):
know if the rumors got to him. He just wasn't involved.
He was going to the sideline, not really hearing anything
that Charles Lee had to say. And just to be
crystal clear, that to me is not a typical LaMelo Ball.
I think that he has been misunderstood for really his
entire career here in Charlotte. I think he's young. I
think he likes to have fun. I think he's goofy.

(17:35):
I think people use that as a reason to call
him extremely selfish. I don't believe that to be true
about LaMelo. We even heard Mark stein We saw what
he wrote in his Steinlein report that LaMelo was not
a malcontent off of the court. It's not somebody they
worry about, Okay, it's in report, it's in rumblings. They're
not worried about the way that he behaves off of
the court, nor should they be on the court against

(17:58):
New York. I thought he checked out and everybody that
questioned his effort deserved to you know who else questioned it.
Charles Lee was mad at him, saying, you got to
understand you can affect the basketball game in other ways
outside of scoring. LaMelo answered the bell the ball if
you will. The very next game, I thought LaMelo, despite
not shooting a very good percentage by the way, like

(18:19):
he wasn't efficient against Chicago man he played his tail
off and I thought he was actually a little too
unselfish at times. There are times where I wanted him
to throw that ball up from three point land, and
every once in a while he would give us the
one legged jumper. I don't want him to completely get
rid of that. That's still what makes him special. But
I thought he really answered it well against Chicago. Like

(18:41):
six of nineteen flounder, that's not a good shooting performance.
Even still, he played much better in that game than
he did the previous time out against New York, and
they won the game. They won the game, which goes
a lot into selling the message to your team. If
you're Charles Lee. Back to back wins against two above
average play in Slash playoff teams Chicago and Toronto, who

(19:02):
had been one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference.
I throw all that back at you and say congrats
to the Hornets for answering the way they should have
in the last two games. LaMelo answering the way that
he should have in the last two games. Clearly, the
macro approach is to keep these guys as healthy as possible.
I agree with it. We'll see what happens tonight when
the Hornets take on I need to look this up

(19:23):
because I forget who they play. It is we are scrolling.
We are scrolling some more. The Hornets play Brooklyn, I apologize.

Speaker 3 (19:30):
Oh see what hey, so NBA adjace basically because my god,
that team stinks.

Speaker 2 (19:36):
They are three and sixteen on the year. Please take care.

Speaker 3 (19:38):
Okay, so they see that's the thing, right, yep, Yeah,
You've taken care of business against a couple of teams
that are actually pretty decent. Now lock in against this
team that stinks and find a way to blow them out.
You did it in the first game of the season
against them. Now you got to be able to do
it here in this one. All right, speaking of a
team that's locked in, let's go to Dave ca. He

(20:00):
was talking actually earlier today and was mentioning Cuba Hubbard
and how he's liked what he's done since he's lost
his starting running back role.

Speaker 6 (20:09):
I just love the way Cuba went right back to work,
and that's his mentality. He's going to handle what's right
in front of him, control the controllabules, take care of
his body, get himself back to where he feels great.
He looked amazing yesterday. He looked explosive, and he looked
strong and really brought an attitude to our group and
it really impacted us as a team. On the sideline.
I could feel that just by the way the intentionality

(20:32):
of how he was running the ball and making yards
and just really proud of the way that he's worked
himself back and all he wants to do is win.
All he wants to do is help his teammates. I
love that about him, all right.

Speaker 3 (20:41):
So, what did you think yesterday about the distribution of
carries in the backfield? And is that really one more
of what we were looking for when we talked early
in the season about them using a running back rotation.

Speaker 2 (20:53):
Seventeen carries for Cuba, eighteen for Rico. Cuba ran really
well eighty three yards on seventeen carries. Rico had fifty
eight yards on eighteen carries, not a great yards per carry,
but I thought he still ran hard. It's just that
Cuba showed a lot of that burst that we had
been missing really all season long, and Cuba being not

(21:14):
as healthy as maybe he was letting on when he
came back. When Rico has the breakout games against Dallas
and Miami, Cuba probably does feel the need to return
a little sooner than he should. Cuba even talking about
how the Lord hurt his prayers, he was really going
through something spiritually, trying to figure out how he could
come back and be his best self. Well, he was

(21:35):
his best self and he looked a lot better against
San Francisco. That was some of the issue that we
took with Dave Canalis for not calling more run plays
was not only had Rico been balling all year long,
but Cuba looked better against the forty nine ers. Now
this is the proof of concept for the fan base
saying give Cuba the ball a little bit more, give
Rico the ball a little more. Cuba looked great yesterday

(21:58):
against the Rams, which ultimately I think comes down to
something we know about but maybe don't discuss as much
man playing running back effectively. Oftentimes it does come down
to just how fresh you are. Not a whole lot
of wear and tear on Tuba this season, right, probably
feeling a lot better when Rico was bawling out. Not
a whole lot of wear and tear on Rico, probably
feeling a lot better. Okay, now's the time where you

(22:20):
use both of these running backs quite a bit. If
you want to stick to the run, and you want
to give Rico a little bit more rest, Cuba a
little more arrest, they will be a fresher running back
for you in these last couple of games, two of
them against a division opponent that you need to be
in order to win the NFC South. I think this

(22:41):
is happening at the right time. You get a monster
win over the best team in football, and now you
have two games ahead of you against technically the best
team in your division, and these running backs. You can
give Rico a little bit more of a spell because
Tuba is healthy. Now, it's happening at the right time.
Floundy love what I saw from the running backs yesterday.

Speaker 3 (22:59):
No, it's coming to the other at the right time.
There's no doubt about that. And that's what I think
is if you're looking at what makes this team successful,
what makes this team consistent, it's if you can run
the ball with both of these guys, because there's gonna
be times where Rico doesn't necessarily have it. I mean
there were times yesterday where Rico didn't have it to
have that guy that you can count on in Cuba.

(23:20):
Now that he's fully healthy, you saw that burst. That's
gonna be a difference. That's where when people compare them
and say they're the same running back, I don't think
they are, because there is that little bit of burst
when he's healthy from Chewba Hubbard.

Speaker 2 (23:34):
So the elusivity for Rico, the passing game from Rico,
I think there's a lot that overlaps one another in
the Venn diagram that is Chewba Hubbard and Rico daddle,
but there is still something unique about each of them
when compared to each other on the outside of that diagram.

Speaker 3 (23:48):
All right, let's go to Bryce Young because he was
talking on the stand yesterday and he brought up the
fans and how impactful they were in the victory.

Speaker 7 (23:57):
For sure, for sure, that means means a time, you know,
for the care liners that come and support us. You know,
we take a lot of pride in protecting the bank,
and you know, for us to get that, it's a
huge advantage. You know, it's you know, it means a
lot of your effects the game. So we're super grateful
for the fan base. It was definitely felt like normal,
So yeah, we're all super grateful for that.

Speaker 3 (24:16):
So what did you think about the support of the
fans yesterday? How about middle of an offensive drive, a
key pounding chant literally starts going. Someone said on social media,
can't remember the last time that happened. Really seemed like
a great day from the fans. It really did, especially
with the weather being pretty nasty.

Speaker 2 (24:32):
It was cold. It wasn't unbearably cold, but it was cold,
talk about below fifty, especially with the rain and the
wind chill and all of that. There were people that
needed to come up under the awning in order to
avoid the rain, but it really wasn't that many people,
man Like, there were still a lot of people down
below just dealing with being wet watching the Carolina Panthers

(24:53):
play football and their parkas are soaked, and it couldn't
have been a pleasant experience. From a weather's standpoint, it
was from watching the Panthers like what they did. It
was an entertaining game. I think that's why you saw
a lot of people nationally watching this contest between the
two saying, hey, everybody, if you have Sunday ticket, go
ahead and put it on this Panthers' Rams game because

(25:14):
it's really exciting. It's living up to I don't even
know if it was living up to the hype. It
surpassed the hype. There wasn't much hype about this game,
even from people in this building now who thought the
Rams was going to win going away. But the weather
perhaps it affected the Rams more than it did the
Panthers because the Panthers just ran it constantly. Your MVP
throwing the football a little off on some of those

(25:36):
intermediate throws, to be sure, even just I would say
Pooka Nakua coming up big forum DeVante Adams early in
the game was wide open on some of those throws
from Stafford. And you had turnovers, like the most critical
turnovers that you can force is what happened. Two in
the red area, one close to it, one directly in

(25:57):
the red zone, and another was a pick six. I
would say that themers you could have.

Speaker 4 (26:01):
Here's the thing, you can blame that on.

Speaker 3 (26:03):
The rain really wasn't raining that hard when he for
those two interceptions, So you can't.

Speaker 2 (26:09):
Say that was always weather if you wanted it. I mean,
I guess you could say the fumble like Stafford wasn't
protecting that ball a ton, But like, no, you're right
the interceptions, it was not raining nearly all that much
at that point.

Speaker 3 (26:21):
All right, we move on to Kay Adams because she
just decided, you know what, I'm gonna throw one of
the hottest takes of the NFL season, potentially out earlier
this morning on her show, she says that Bryce has
been the best quarterback from his draft class.

Speaker 4 (26:40):
It's time to have a conversation about Bryce.

Speaker 8 (26:41):
People.

Speaker 4 (26:42):
It is a twenty one game sample size. He returned
from the benching. I don't know what that did, but
it did something.

Speaker 8 (26:51):
They pick up the win over the Saints, and he
has now led these Panthers to a winning record. They
beat the Rams, they beat the Packers, remember that they
beat the Cowboys this year. He has thirty seven touchdowns
and thirteen picks and NFL best nine game winning drives.
So those thirty seven touchdowns top ten over that span,
more than Aaron Rodgers, Jordan Love.

Speaker 4 (27:11):
Drake May.

Speaker 8 (27:12):
I'm going to say it, and CJ. Stroud and I
just want to highlight and CJ.

Speaker 4 (27:17):
Stroud.

Speaker 8 (27:18):
Okay, so Tepper's drafted him, stuck with him, and look
what's happening, and there's a lot of work left to do,
of course, but he now has his team back in
the playoff race. And this is a very significant sample size.
This isn't a couple of games. Okay, He's been the
best quarterback in the twenty twenty three draft class. Question Mark,
you guys tell me yes he has.

Speaker 3 (27:39):
All right, So how hot of a take do you
think that this is from Kay Adams And do you
think at this point, with what we've seen from Bryce
availability part of it as well, do you think he
has surpassed CJ.

Speaker 2 (27:50):
Stroud. That's tough for me to answer, man. I love
what Bryce has done. I don't think it's that hot
of a take. I'll answer that because I do think
it's kind of tough now with what CJ. Stroud has
or has not done eleven touchdowns to six interceptions. The
thing is, I do think this. If Bryce Young had
the same situation that c J Stroud had each of

(28:12):
these last two seasons, I think we would be using
that situation to defend Bryce Jung's poor play, because that
offensive line down there is still quite poor and all
the weapons that you've drafted or signed the last couple
of years, Stefan Diggs gets injured after a while, Nico
Collins is in and out of the lineup, Tank Dell
still isn't playing football. I don't want to give c J.
Stroud excuses so much so that I continue to say

(28:34):
that he's better than Bryce, but I am trying to
be fair with all of this. He did also just
beat an Indianapolis Colts team that was the darling of
the first ten games of the NFL season, and he
threw for two hundred and seventy six yards while doing so,
did have the interception, did get sacked a couple of times,
didn't have any touchdown passes that's fair, but made the

(28:55):
plays they needed him to make when they needed him
when they needed him to do so. Like so all
that to say, it's a win that Bryce has made
this a conversation flat out because CJ was a star
and I need people to understand that after that rookie season,
you couldn't go to any podcast without hearing that host
discuss just how CJ was going to be the future.

Speaker 3 (29:17):
C J.

Speaker 2 (29:18):
Stroud won a playoff game. He's won a couple of
playoff games already, if I'm not mistaken. Did he win
the one last year they got to the postseason? Either way?

Speaker 4 (29:24):
Yeah, I don't remember for sure.

Speaker 2 (29:26):
Either way, what c J. Stroud has done has been impressive,
especially more so just looking at that rookie year and
he was all over the place and he had all
of these fun takes. And now Bryce has closed the
gap to the point where there might not be a
gap between these two guys. So look, if he hasn't
passed CJ, I'll say that he's right there with him.

(29:47):
I'll say that he's right there with him, and that
he has played so much better since getting benched. With
the other thing, I wanted to push back on just
real quickly with what Kay Adams was saying. She said
David Tepper stuck with him and that they deserve a
lot of credit for that. Look, this is coming from
somebody that has given Temper quite a bit of credit
over the last year man. We got to remember, I'm

(30:08):
not sure Bryce comes back if Andy Dalton doesn't get
in the car wreck and injure his wrist. Right, it
was his wrist that he injured when he got in
the car wreck or stuff. Stuff. Excuse me, sorry, yep,
it was his thumb. And you know, if they would
have gotten the right kind of value for a trade,
would they have moved on from Bryce. That's the kind
of thing I'm not so sure I need to give

(30:29):
him or the Panther's all that much credit for. But
they throw him back out there. He's played a lot better,
and now I think he's played well enough if he
keeps it at this level the rest of the season
to at least pick up the fifth year contract or
a fifth year option on this contract. And that's not
a small thing. That's an important thing to have happened
with your first overall selection.

Speaker 3 (30:49):
Yeah, no, I think you're right, by the way, Yes,
CJ Shroud two wins in the playoffs, so that's certainly
something that Bryce is going to have to get to.
The Other thing that's interesting, though, when you have this
conversation about these is look at what CJ's backup was
able to do in that system.

Speaker 4 (31:05):
He was Davis Mills was pretty good.

Speaker 3 (31:08):
So does that sort of take away a little bit
from what CJ did?

Speaker 2 (31:11):
I guess Ade Dalton was too in some moments and
then he wasn't. So like if we just would have
gotten a larger sample size from Davis Mills, would Davis
have shown us why he's a BACKUPQB. CJ. Stroud just
came back quicker than what Bryce did, right, So I
think it's very comparable. I think that's the story to me.

Speaker 3 (31:27):
Yeah, I think honestly, I said it was one of
the hotter takes. I think when you think about it,
it probably is. I don't know if it's a right take,
but it is pretty close to being right.

Speaker 2 (31:41):
Sounds like a first take topic, who's better out of
the class?

Speaker 3 (31:44):
Bryce Young herself, Well, that doesn't that doesn't involve a
Bears quarterback, so they probably won't talk about it or Dallas. Dallas,
Oh yeah, Philly figure.

Speaker 2 (31:54):
Out a way how to put Lebron in there as well.
That'll do it for the Live Wire thanks to Floundery.
We have one more segment to go. It's the walk
Off coming up next. WESN. Walker Sports Radio ninety two
to seven WFNZ.

Speaker 4 (32:12):
Are the challenge for you to walk off?

Speaker 2 (32:16):
Oh yeah, that's a walk off challenge, my friend, it's
a walk off. It's a walk off. One more segments
ago on Western Walker Sports Radio, ninety two to seven
wfn Z. I mean, this is one of those shows
flounder where you can't get to everything. You can't. I

(32:37):
mean we even had this, how much man it even
had this? We had this Adam Thielen story drop in
our laps. I find that story to be really interesting, man,
because of all of the stuff that we had heard
about him wanting to move on, going back home, being
a big part of a team that is supposed to
be a playoff contender, having the nice little bow wrapped

(32:58):
on your career and call to call it a day.
And then we thought maybe you would just want to
play here in Carolina because Bryce s Young and Adam
DeLand had developed quite a nice connection, except they weren't
really showcasing him a whole lot in training camp, like
it was always Temac that was getting all of the targets,
and even Coker had a few nice days. I don't
think there were many days where we left training camp

(33:19):
thinking oh man, Adam Dealan killed it today right now.

Speaker 3 (33:23):
We just chalked it up to a veteran that didn't
necessarily need the ball thrown his way that much.

Speaker 4 (33:30):
Guy that was just kind of going.

Speaker 3 (33:32):
Through the most, just get me to the season because
we knew this was his final year, so we sort
of gave him a pass for that.

Speaker 2 (33:37):
Yeah, it was Jimmy Horn that was impressing. It was
Excel every once in a while, Cocher and then t
Mac that was getting all of the targets. We all
thought it was Joe. Well, this is better and stuff. Anyway,
So he's released by Minnesota in case you missed it
from any of the times that we mentioned it previously
on the show, but Minnesota released him. The story is
that Adam Delen and his representation went to Quasia Dolfo

(33:58):
Mensa and said that he would like to go pursue
a competitive last couple of weeks that isn't going to
happen in Minnesota, and they granted that wish and they
waived him. So he'll sign with a different team. Presumably,
we'll see if that's a competitive team. We'll see if
he's productive for whatever franchise decides. To sign him, but
we know he wanted out of Carolina to go back

(34:19):
home and it didn't really go as planned back at
home in Minnesota. We got to tell you What's on tap.
What's on Tap presented by Twin Peaks. Twin Peaks has
locations in Concord and for it Mil. Twin Peaks is
a local sports lodge come inform made from scratch food
and signature twenty nine degree Draft beers Monday Night Football.
How close to a game do you expect it to

(34:40):
be between the Patriots and the Giants? Like a sneaky
speaky vibes on this one, Yes, because the Giants like
to play every team tough and then in the fourth
quarter fall apart.

Speaker 3 (34:52):
Now, the difference is is that Shane Bowen, the defensive coordinator,
is no longer there, so they have made that change.

Speaker 4 (35:00):
Does that lead to any sort of success?

Speaker 3 (35:02):
If the Giants have a late lead, are they more
aggressive defensively? We'll have to see ultimately what am I
hoping for helping the Giants lose? Because the better draft
pick that you get, the more advantageous position you could
be in. They are taking more than likely a wide receiver.
So if they have the number one pick and someone

(35:23):
wants to trade up, you can get a huge haul
that can help you sort of rebuild this quicker for
whoever your new coach is going to be, because I
don't think they're going with an experienced guy. I want
someone like Mike McCarthy, but I don't think they're going
to do it.

Speaker 2 (35:37):
New England a seven and a half point favorite according
to ESPN. The Giants are zero and a seven. Away
from home, They're two and ten on the year. This
feels like a fun two and ten season though, outside
of Cam and Malie getting hurt.

Speaker 3 (35:49):
Definitely better than what we've seen in years past.

Speaker 2 (35:53):
Yeah, man, to and ten, it doesn't feel If you
were to ask me, I would have expected four. I
was like, yeah, they got four wins, right, No.

Speaker 3 (36:00):
But I'm telling you they lose every game late, Yeah,
they do. Like the worst of it all was against
that Broncos team where you were in control of that
game and you somehow up nineteen to nothing, lost that
game thirty three to thirty two.

Speaker 2 (36:13):
Speaking of the Broncos, I don't I'm sure this is
just recency bias, and I can't think of anybody else
on surface level research has there been a team that
has been luckier than the Denver Broncos this year.

Speaker 4 (36:27):
It doesn't feel like it.

Speaker 2 (36:28):
It doesn't feel like it to me either. And you
could point to Kansas City, except outside of the conspiracies
revolving the refs and Roger Goodell willing Kansas City to
make the Super Bowl.

Speaker 4 (36:37):
We'll take it a week off from that, all right,
come back next week.

Speaker 2 (36:39):
No, hey, no doubt, man. But the thing is, Kansas
City they won all these one score games a year ago,
and this year they're losing all of the one score
games outside of the game that they had against the Colts.
But you can understand, maybe one of the best quarterbacks
of all time, it makes sense that he might win
some of those games. With Denver, they still, somehow, some way,

(37:00):
against every opponent, win in these fourth quarter comebacks, fourth
quarter holding on for dear life type of games. Like
Marcus Martin. By the way, a couple things with Mariota one.
I don't know why we're doing the Mariota thing. Chris Collins,
Oh that yes, yeah, Tea, huh okay.

Speaker 3 (37:21):
I know he must have told them, I guess in
their meeting. This is how I pronounced it.

Speaker 2 (37:25):
I wonder if it's a Hawaiian thing, because it makes
sense to pronounce that a little bit more so that
Marcus Mariota, Okay, fair enough, just shocking. I needed somebody
to warn me about it after ten years of calling
him Mariota, but fair enough, Well Mariota this now he
was excellent. Man, I thought he was great.

Speaker 3 (37:41):
That was probably the best game he's played since coming
in and taking over.

Speaker 2 (37:44):
I don't with Washington, but I don't remember a better
game that he played in Atlanta, Like, I don't remember
him playing that well in quite some time.

Speaker 3 (37:52):
I mean, did he even play that good with the Raiders?
I think that might be the question.

Speaker 2 (37:56):
Anyways, just Denver, you know, he had the bad has
in the two point conversion attempt. But Denver winning all
of these games the way that they have, I can't
wait to pick against them in the AFC playoff picture.

Speaker 3 (38:08):
Yeah, I'm starting to get to that point too. I
really thought they were the team that you could believe
in because of that defense. And I mean you look
at what they did even when Pats or Tam was out,
like they were still really really good. But now when
you look at it, you just asked, do they have
enough offensive firepower. Will this carry over when they get
to the playoffs. Now, the good news is is that

(38:28):
the other teams that are good in the AFC, most
of them don't have playoff experience either, So maybe that
favors them when they get there.

Speaker 4 (38:36):
But we're looking at a situation.

Speaker 3 (38:38):
This is why if Kansas City can make the playoffs,
you get that feeling they can go on.

Speaker 2 (38:45):
I'm gonna pick them.

Speaker 3 (38:45):
And I got to tell you another team that's really interesting.
If the Texans make the playoffs, watch out, man. They've
got more experience than a lot of these other teams.
You never know, man, that ever know that defense. That's
even with c J. Stroup and the conversation we just
had about bryceon CJ. CJ has won a couple of
playoff games, and I do think CJ. Stroud is a

(39:07):
better quarterback than bo Nicks. Even if Bonix, what he's
done with Denver has been impressive enough to get the
job done. I just I'm sorry I feel the way
I feel watching both of those qbs Denver, the way
that they've won, the amount of times that it's happened
that way, it's astonishing, and I hate that it's happening.
It's like the Bucks early in the season and right
the Bucks, it's sort of come. It's come to roost

(39:29):
on them as the season has gone along. At some
point it's gonna bite Denver. Is it gonna happen before
the end of the regular season or is it gonna
happen when they're in the postseason.

Speaker 4 (39:39):
I think that's what's going to be really interesting.

Speaker 2 (39:41):
Also another thing we should talk about just real quickly. Falcons, Buddy,
Could it be going any worse for them? After losing
Michael Pennix for the year? Now you lose to the
Jets and the Jets win on you hate to see
it last second field goal to just further bring yourself
into top ten pick territory, except oh wait, you don't

(40:01):
have your top ten pick. That pick that you're going
to have goes to what we considered it still I think,
I don't know, maybe it changes a little bit, but
to go to the best team in football with the
way that maybe you change your mind after that, I
actually haven't, to be honest with you, I still think
the Rams are the best team in football. I just
think the Panthers played really, really well. All that to
say they're going to get a top ten pick because

(40:23):
Atlanta doesn't own theirs and Atlanta is going to Is
it going to be higher than a top eight, because
right now it's eighth overall. Buddy, it's going bad down South,
It's going bad.

Speaker 4 (40:33):
Did you you just hate to see it for him? Right?

Speaker 3 (40:36):
Such a cordial fan base and everything like that. I mean, yeah,
it's a disaster, man. I mean, to lose to that
Jets team, it's just it's stunning.

Speaker 2 (40:45):
And I get it.

Speaker 3 (40:45):
The Jets have been playing a little bit better. Tyrod
Taylor was clearly the quarterback they should have been going
with earlier in the season. But I mean still, dude,
like Kirk Cousins, you can't out battle Tyrod Taylor. That's
that's tough, man. That's a tough spot to be in
if you're Atlanta.

Speaker 2 (41:04):
All right, One acc game tonight, Stanford hosting Portland? Any
interest in? And yes and going to be so locked in.

Speaker 3 (41:12):
I forget who they beat on a buzzer beater recently,
but they had a key win in whatever holiday tournament
they were playing in, so it could be pretty decent
again this year.

Speaker 2 (41:24):
Maybe real quickly. I need to look at smoke for
this is that Jordan Senn University. Did Jordan Senn go
to Portland? Am I mistaken about that? That wouldn't been
Jacobs right anyways, I don't know why anybody would know.
He's already like, yeah, that's that's the dismount stick of
a little Ben Jacobs mentioned to end a Monday edition
of Wes and Walker. I think it's Jordan Sen though.

(41:44):
If I'm not mistaken, I think he's the guy that
went to Portland. That'll do it for West and Walker.
Good work out of Flounder, man, he's going to be
helping me out all week west out. Just taking some
time off, No need to worry about him just taking
some time off, but Flounder going to be co hosting
all week long from twelve to three here on weston Walker.
And we have a Portland update. You want to give
it to me real quick, smoking Portland State is where

(42:05):
Jordan's Sin went to? Okay, different Portland. I apologize. Did
Julius Thomas go to Portland? Was he a pilot? He
played basketball there? I don't know. We'll give you all
of the Portland. That's what we'll do. The best alums
to ever come out of Portland. That's Tomorrow on Sports,
