Speaker 1 (00:00):
You were listening to the Wes and Walker show. What
purpose does a bull serve on a farm?

Speaker 2 (00:05):
It's Wes Well, I mean you gotta make baby cows
when a daddy bull. So bull okay, and Walker gotta
breaed them? Okay, because at first you said cows like
the bull goes well, a bull is a male cow,
yes only on.

Speaker 1 (00:19):
Sports Radio ninety two point seven FM WFNZ, A cow
is Yeah.

Speaker 3 (00:24):
There you go something every day? Hey man, I forgot
out talking to doctor doulu.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
Where are we going to learn something?

Speaker 2 (00:38):
One more hour to go on Western Walker Sports Radio
ninety two seven wfn Z talking about one bad football
team to another. I guess in the Queen City. It's unfortunate, man.
My Charlotte forty nine ers. It's not been going well
for them. They didn't lose last week, but it's because
they had a bye week and so we got a
reprieve from some of the losing. And I loved him Alban.

(00:58):
I think he's the right man for the Unfortunately, they
have suffered a ton of injuries over there and it
hasn't stopped Hunter Bailey on Twitter, who we have in
just a moment. You can follow him on Twitter at
Hunter Underscore Bailey forty five. He writes for The Charlotte Observer,
just tweeted out that Connor Harrell within the last twenty
four hours, he tweeted out that he's out for the year.
Starting quarterback, Connor Harele he's gone and my guy, our guy,

(01:21):
Henry Rutledge running back out for the season. Unfortunate injuries
for two guys that we're going to be big parts
of this football team. Let's bring that man on again.
Hunter Bailey also host of the Highway forty nine podcast.
Are you able to find some positives in your life
covering the Charlotte forty nine ers the way you do, Hunter?
And if so, where are those positives coming from?

Speaker 4 (01:44):
Looks, man, I'm not gonna lie be any Eagles fan
as hell sometimes, but it's been good lately.

Speaker 5 (01:50):
So that's the biggest one right now. Football related.

Speaker 2 (01:53):
Yeah, it's unfortunate with Connor Hall, who looked good in
the last game that he played and then goes down
with that injury after running out of bounds. What does
the Connor Harrold injury for the season mean for this squad?
And how much belief do you have in Grayson Loftis Hunter.

Speaker 5 (02:10):
Yeah, it's funny.

Speaker 4 (02:11):
So Man, I'll be the first to admit, like before
the season, I said, I thought, I guess I was
shocked that that Connor Harrol beat out Grayson Loftus for
the job, but then kind of seeing Loftus fill in
and garbage time opportunities against North Carolina and then coming
in midway through the second quarter against Rice, you can
see the night and eight difference between Harrold and Loftus,

(02:34):
and I think just Harold's ability to break the pocket
scramble and extend plays. I mean the play he gets
hurt on is third and eighteen to design quarterback run,
good play call from Todd Fitch to OC except nineteen
yards and goes goes down. Man and Tim I've been
woodn't disclosed the specific injury.

Speaker 5 (02:53):
I believe it is Aco, so you could see, I.

Speaker 4 (02:57):
Mean, obviously a huge loss for them Charlotte soft and
basically just disappears in the second half of that game.
They go in to the half, it's fourteen to nine.
In the third quarter, their offenseest five yards. Loftus just
he's been relatively turnover prone through a couple of just
inexcusable passes in the North Carolina game. I thought he
looked a little better against Rice, and I think the

(03:17):
bye week comes out a good time to let him
get those reps. But honestly, when I look at the offense,
now no one you're not getting Henry Rutlis back, Jade
Mcallen's out of the year. You're gonna need these guys
like EJ. Mason, Sean Brown, Jada Nicholas to play out
of their minds because the offensive line play has been
subpart and now you're missing two of those most explosive

(03:38):
players at quarterback and the running back.

Speaker 5 (03:40):
Man, it's a tough spot.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
Yeah, Are we on one win watch at this point
with some of the injuries we've suffered, Yeah.

Speaker 5 (03:47):
I think so.

Speaker 4 (03:48):
And when I look at actually calculated the other day,
like how many games I've covered the wins and loss
over this in the past past three years have been
tough on that front, and I think, I mean, a
one win season would be the worst that I've covered
for the team. When I look at the schedule, Army
feels like a potential winnable game, although it's on the road,

(04:10):
and then Temple is really the only other one I
can see but knowing they're going to South Florida Friday night,
twenty seven point dogs. There, They've got North Texas, one
of the hottest teams in the league.

Speaker 5 (04:21):
In a couple of weeks at home, they're.

Speaker 4 (04:23):
Going to Georgia, They're going to Tulane. I look at
that ECU game, is you know East you looks all
right this year? They probably are the better team, but
Charlotte undefeated against them, so you're hoping that they continue
that streak from Biff Pogi to tim Alvins. So when
I look at it, man, it doesn't look great that
there are some spots where I think that they could
maybe just make the games muddy, like win a low

(04:46):
scoring game. I think that's pretty much the route to
victory right now.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
Wes, I did you see Georgia. Luz like, yeah, there's Hana.

Speaker 3 (04:55):
What are some of the positive that you've taken away
from this team that it's been so much bad? But
I'm any positive that you've seen.

Speaker 5 (05:03):
Yeah, I think.

Speaker 4 (05:04):
I mean, when I look at the roster, I know
this isn't necessarily like the final product Tim Oubn wanted
talent wise, but when you start looking to the future recruiting,
that he's doing in the next year's class. I think,
as Walker Walker said, I mean, I think there's still
belief until Tim Obb and like when you look at
his time at Ohio, even even in his jobs prior,

(05:26):
like it's the first year, has always been a struggle
to turnaround. Happens year two, year three. I think you're
just kind of on the rock, like on that journey
right now. Positives specifically, I think, like I said, the
receiver room kind of gives you some hope. They threw
Sean Brown the ball multiple times in the same game,
which kind of a revelation here this season. I think

(05:47):
they figured out that good things happen when number eight.

Speaker 5 (05:50):
Has the ball.

Speaker 4 (05:51):
I think that's one of the biggest positives. And then man,
I really like Brod Daniel Junior another one of the tailbacks.
He's kind of taken over that spot with c J.
Stokes having fumblin issue. Was Henry Roatich being sideline and
Rod came up a little gampy at the end of
that last game.

Speaker 5 (06:04):
So hoping he's back.

Speaker 4 (06:06):
But I think some of the skill positions there is
talent there. I think it's like I say, the O
line's got to find a way to keep off this
upright Freddit.

Speaker 2 (06:16):
Hunter Bailey joining us here on Weston Walker Sports Radio
ninety two seven WFNZ.

Speaker 1 (06:22):
No, he's back, Hunter Bailey.

Speaker 2 (06:23):
He's still with us again on Weston Walker ninety two
to seven FM. So Hunter here, who we are talking
about all these issues man, and just trying to figure
out exactly where they can get a win some of
the bright spots. What do you think about the coordinator
play this year or the coordinator strategy with what the
Charlotte forty nine ers have done, Like, is there any
way to win on the margins with the talent at

(06:46):
hand or lack thereof? Well, what are some of the
things they can do to maybe manufacture some points?

Speaker 5 (06:51):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (06:51):
When I look at the offense, I think the mondnth game,
you look at it as a tailor going against an
FCS defense that was given up you know already, plus
a game that was a get right game for them.
They score a ton of points, win the game with
forty two. I think washing some of the film from
at State and the North Carolina games, some of the

(07:13):
play calling on offense will literally just make your head hurt.
I think we saw a little bit of it and right.
It was like they were leaning into the idea of
being kind of that dual threat offense with Harold and
he saw him get double digit carries and it's Monmouth.
It was trending that direction and its right. So it
was like the red zone struggles are interesting and you
know that they're spending extended periods of time working on

(07:36):
red zone.

Speaker 5 (07:38):
Like I say, with Todd Fitch, he's been successful in
the past, and.

Speaker 4 (07:41):
I think he's gonna Todd Fitch's ideal offensive scheme is
to have that pro style quarterback. I think Tim Alvin
was more of kind of marrying the run game with
the past.

Speaker 5 (07:50):
With a quarterback. So he's been successful in the pass
at Ohio with dual threat guys running quarterbacks. I'm interested
to see what they do. I want to see more
of this game.

Speaker 4 (08:00):
I mentioned Gainy earlier.

Speaker 5 (08:02):
Stokes.

Speaker 4 (08:03):
Let the tight ends get involved in the screen game
and then get David Nicholas the ball, so they have
some options on the offense.

Speaker 5 (08:10):
The defensive side, then they're going to have to find
ways to stop the bleeding.

Speaker 4 (08:13):
Like right, they've been beaten in interesting ways like Rice
running this odd kind of spread option offense.

Speaker 5 (08:20):
Charlotte was.

Speaker 4 (08:21):
I mean, watching the film, they're in most of these
run gaps. The problem is is Rice is just killing
them with these cutback lanes. They're over pursuing.

Speaker 5 (08:30):
I think you'll hope to get that cleaned up this.

Speaker 4 (08:32):
Week because you know South Florida is going to spread
the field, have their receivers as close to the sideline
as possible, and make Charlotte work.

Speaker 5 (08:39):
So what I've taken for this game specific.

Speaker 4 (08:42):
Byron Brown, tell Florida's quarterback he's not scared to pull
the ball down and run. I think Charlotte will five
wouldn't be shocked if that someone like Shay Taylor at
linebacker and really just having like discipline rushing lanes from
this front foward. We haven't really seen them generate any
pressure nor turnovers. Man, they haven't forced the turnover in
fifteen quarters of football, So that's got to be priority number.

Speaker 5 (09:04):
One for the defense.

Speaker 4 (09:05):
Take the ball away, keep the quarterback in the pocket.

Speaker 5 (09:08):
They can beat you over top.

Speaker 4 (09:09):
So the coordinators definitely can find ways to ease these
margins of talent. But I think it's going to be
tough starting Friday, for sure.

Speaker 3 (09:17):
And so Hannah, I was going to ask you what's
it been looking like at the games as far as
just recruiting for Tim Albin in year one. Are they
on the trail of some guys that you feel like
could help things or have there been plenty of you know,
I guess top level for a Charlotte coming to these games.

Speaker 6 (09:35):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (09:35):
The recruiting section for the home games has been apt.
I think it's sold out.

Speaker 4 (09:40):
For the recruiting section for the three games of Richardson Stadium,
there were a ton at Bank of America with that state.
I think the biggest thing what I mentioned earlier that
matchup with ECU later in the year, is it's gonna
be tough to go zero to three against M state
schools this year and then say, hey, Charlts the place
for you. I mean, honest, first couple games of the season,

(10:02):
that North Carolina not State game. If I'm the recruiting staff,
I'm pointing at every offensive recruit and saying, we need you.

Speaker 5 (10:09):
Here's why I.

Speaker 4 (10:10):
Come help build this program. Alvin has the track record
to get you here, develop you, and then whether that's
developing you for your next top in college or getting
you ready to go to the NFL. I think that's
got to be the mindset for Charlotte moving forward, because
I mean, guys, the American Conference is good this year, Tim,
I haven't said it today. There's a couple of teams

(10:31):
that should be ranked. South Florida, Tulane, North Texas, all
those teams around the schedule. So it's like I say,
it's a gaunlet the rest of the way. But looking forward,
you have to be able to find ways to win
these in state recruiting battles, keep Charlotte guys in Charlotte
and land some of that top talent that's literally right
here in the backyard.

Speaker 3 (10:49):
Yeah, we saw South Florida this year. They've beaten two
ranked teams and they go down. They lose bad to Miami,
But we know that this team. A lot of people
were saying once they get the conference play, they're going
to be a juggernaut. What worries you the most about
this South Florida matchup?

Speaker 4 (11:03):
Yeah, Like I say, their ability to score points baths
and then bunches and taking the ball away. Alex Delsh
is honestly just one of the best minds in the
conference when it comes.

Speaker 5 (11:14):
To a coach.

Speaker 4 (11:15):
Byron Brown, A Raley Kids just stud He's going to
be able to spread the ball out and he can
could take it. He'll run you over to West. He's
not he's not a quarterback that's shining away from Ay.

Speaker 1 (11:28):
He's a big cat too. About two thirty.

Speaker 4 (11:30):
Yeah, and then you're looking in the backfield Cartavius Norton,
former forty nine er. You know he wants wants to
have a big dig against his old school. So when
I look at this game, and it's can you find
ways to steal points on special teams?

Speaker 5 (11:44):
We saw a guy like.

Speaker 4 (11:45):
Derek Ealey have a couple of big kick returns against Mandness.
Can that get going? And can you finish when you
play in plus territory? I mean fifty percent of their
snaps against Rice, We're in plus territory and they have,
you know, seventeen points to show for it. It's can
you finish drives? Can you find ways to win? Because

(12:06):
I gotta say, talent level is going to be evident,
Talent gap is going to be evident Friday night. So
can you find ways to steal points? Make them kick
field goals and find the end zone?

Speaker 2 (12:17):
Last question Hunter Henry Rutledge with him being out for
the year. Does that mean his Charlotte career is over
as well as his college career after that season ending injury.

Speaker 5 (12:27):
I believe.

Speaker 1 (12:28):
So.

Speaker 4 (12:28):
We asked him in the preseason if it was his
last year. He said yeah, And that's tough, man, because
he's one of the all time good guys covering this team,
like he's waited for his opportunity. You guys, I mean
I listened to the interview with Chris Reynolds on the
show like before the season, before the game, he's saying,
get this guy to rock. I mean, it goes back
to twenty twenty two. He's catching touchdowns and I'm checking

(12:50):
my notes, like who is this guy? And now it's
to the point where criminally underused in Mike Miller's offense
under a bit pogi. You're thinking, Okay, this is his
opportunity this year, dealing with this injury. In the preseason
Week two against North Carolina, you see him get in
the game, big run, like his first touch of the year,
and then that's it. And it's like I say, all

(13:12):
time good dude came on our show, friend.

Speaker 5 (13:14):
Of the podcast. He's definitely hurt for someone like him.

Speaker 4 (13:18):
Guys like Johnny King guys like Sean Brown that have
stuck it out for two three coaches here at Charlotte
and like I say, the winning just hasn't been there
for him.

Speaker 2 (13:26):
Yeah, one of the all time ifs of this team,
the biggest if if people just used him correctly, if
he was out there on the field, I think Henry
Rutledge could have left a bigger mark with this team,
but unfortunately is going to be out for the season
after the injury that he suffered and had been dattling
injuries really in this entire year. Hunter Bailey, host of
the Highway forty nine podcast, rights about the Charlotte forty

(13:48):
nine Ers football team before the Charlotte Observer. Follow him
on Twitter at Hunter Underscore Bailey forty five. Hunter, I
hope we're talking about some good stuff next week. I
can't tell you that I'm going to predict it, but
I hope we are many.

Speaker 3 (14:00):
I mean, if they are able to beat South Florida,
it's gonna be a joyous a case.

Speaker 1 (14:04):
You're gonna have to bring out some champagne. We appreciate it, Hunter,
thanks again.

Speaker 5 (14:08):
Yeah, so you did your fellows talk hell soon good.

Speaker 2 (14:10):
Stuff from Hunter Bailey. We'll put that interview on our

that number is seven oh four five seven oh ninety

(14:52):
six ten. We've got a lot of sound bites to
get to, so I don't want to waste any more time.
Let's jump right on in for some sound with flound
hit it.

Speaker 7 (15:03):
He's to the west of the west down wise, all right,
and let's begin with Dave Dorin, not Dave Canalis, the
other Dave that has a little bit of pressure right
now with where his team is at this season. He
was talking yesterday, was asked a question. I would guess
this was from a student reporter. If I had to say,

(15:26):
and he was talking about the pressure, the outside pressure
that he's receiving it now, he really isn't worried about
the outside noise that's going on.

Speaker 8 (15:33):
Other than having to talk to you guys, I don't
know that there's noise. I know that there is because
that's what our world does right now, but I don't
pay attention to any of that. My job is to
stay focused on what's going on inside these walls with
these young men. Externally, besides being a husband and a father,
my job's to recruit. My job's not to listen to

(15:56):
you or the media or anyone else about their opinion
of our program. It's to do everything that I can
to help these guys win the next game. And that's
same thing I'm telling them. And you find out who
your friends are. You know, you guys all go through
tough things too. You'll find out who's loyal and who
isn't during tough times, and you know you got to
block the people out of your life that aren't. That way,

(16:18):
you don't need to read negative things, you don't need
to pay attention to negative things. You control what you
can and you surround yourself with people that want to
do the same. And so, you know, my advice to anybody,
not just our players, is you know, being a circle
of friends that promotes your growth. You don't listen to
things that people tell you that you don't ask for
advice from. And I'm sure they're not getting on social

(16:40):
media asking for advice. So why I pay attention to
what people are saying. And you know, it's one thing
to say you want us to win when we're winning,
and when we lose, to say that you want us
to leave, that's not loyalty. And so we're going to
be loyal to the people that are loyal to us,
and that's these players, that's these coaches. We're gonna fight together,

(17:01):
We're gonna fight hard.

Speaker 7 (17:03):
Oh so, little little bit of a shot at the
fan base there at the end from Dave Doran. Do
you believe him that he is not worried about the
outside talking coming after his job?

Speaker 3 (17:15):
Yeah, no doubt about it. He's been fired. You know,
people say a lot of things. They say, if I
had a penny for every time I drove down this street,
if I had a nickel for every time I heard
somebody say something if I had a dollar for every
State fan that fired Dave Doran.

Speaker 1 (17:31):
I would be uber rich. You wouldn't be here, yep,
I would be uber rich.

Speaker 3 (17:35):
And so that's the thing. Dave Durrn Doran has heard
it all, seen it all. He's not worried about it.
You talk about seven eight plus win seasons, four nine
win seasons. So if he was sitting up there worried
about what State fans were saying, he would have been
quit by now or went and done something else.

Speaker 1 (17:52):
So he is completely unbothered. He goes through this.

Speaker 3 (17:55):
Every loss that NC State takes, he has fired, he
is what is his buyout every single time.

Speaker 2 (18:03):
Yeah, I don't think it's bad advice that he gave.
I do think he cares a little bit about what
people say. Maybe not in the sense of it bothers
him and he loses sleep at night, but he definitely
takes note of it. And I'll always remember the Steve
Smith and Dave dor and back and forth when Steve
Smith said NC State as a basketball school, and he
heard those comments despite shielding himself in a dark room,
not hearing any outside noise. That's some noise that got

(18:24):
through that dark room and he heard that, and then
he had something something he said and Drake May when
he talked about NC State, he had something for Drake May,
and he had something for the North Carolina fan base.
But that's all in good fun as well. I don't
know if Dave Doran is losing any sleep. But these coaches,
they like to tell you they don't hear anything, and
they hear stuff. It's just all about how they choose

(18:44):
to react to it. That's the point I would like
to make. All right, we move on to Rex Ryan.

Speaker 7 (18:50):
He was talking about Shador Sanders and he was very
very critical of the young quarterback for the Browns, saying
how he likes to talk and run his mouth and
that he can't that he is not a starting quarterback
in this league.

Speaker 6 (19:06):
Stefanski is one of the I mean, an outstanding coach,
all right, but why the hell isn't he putting should
or Sanders. We're all waiting to see this Shad or
Sanders be the guy, or Gabriel whatever.

Speaker 1 (19:17):
Something's missing, something's missing with this kid.

Speaker 6 (19:20):
This kid talks, he runs his mouth like he's a
I could be a starting quarterback with his arms crossed
like this. Get your ass in the front row and
study and do all that. If I know, the whole
league knows, quit being an embarrassment that way. You got
the talent to be the quarterback you should be. You
should be embarrassed that you're not the quarterback now.

Speaker 5 (19:39):
All right?

Speaker 7 (19:40):
So do you agree with the criticism that Rex Ryan
has for him. He's basically pointing out that he doesn't
believe that he stands on the sideline where he's supposed
to do. He doesn't believe that he is studying the
playbook the way that he is supposed to do. You
think there's a fair criticism there from Rex Ryan.

Speaker 1 (19:56):
I disagree that.

Speaker 3 (19:56):
I think that Sanders, you know, he just like he said,
talks little bit too much for him to say that
he's better than half the quarterbacks starting in the league
and you aren't even the backup on your own team
for the Cleveland Browns. I think that that is pretty telling.
And yeah, I get confidence, and you need that to
be a great athlete, and you need all the confidence
in the world to be able to step up and
be a starting quarterback in the NFL. It's American royalty. Hell,

(20:20):
it's almost global royalty, for God's sake. But I think
that your door does need to just keep quiet, keep
his nose, you know, saying, just keep it down, keep grinding.
And then when he gets his opportunity, because I think
before the season is over with, I think he may
end up getting a shot at it. But for him
to come out and say some of the things that
he's saying, Like I said, I hate the lack of

(20:41):
self awareness because, as I said, to be able to
say that, yeah, I'm better than half the starting quarterbacks
in this league, but you're not the backup on your team,
that's not a good look.

Speaker 2 (20:51):
It reminds me a lot of when lebron James was
laughing and saying, Bronnie James is better than half of
the NBA players in that league, And Bronnie James is
not better than half of the NBA players that are
in the league right now. I don't think Shador Sanders
is better than half of the quarterbacks in the NFL.

Speaker 5 (21:07):
Now.

Speaker 2 (21:07):
If Shador Sanders does get his shot with the Cleveland Browns,
I really am quite curious as to how that would
look because I think that there is some stuff there.
I don't think Shador is completely talentless. I do think
that the headaches that he brings right now with all
the comments and the way that he feels about himself.
I don't know if teammates don't like him in Cleveland.

Speaker 1 (21:26):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (21:27):
I don't want to speculate, but does seem like Shador
Sanders thinks pretty highly of himself, And if he thinks
he's better than half of the quarterbacks in the league,
I'm sure he doesn't agree with sitting behind Joe Flacco
and sitting behind Dylan Gabriel. And if that's the case,
I can't imagine that that's a beautiful relationship in the
quarterback room with all three of those guys, and it
seems like Shador is the one that's ousting himself. It

(21:49):
just continues to seem to me Wes that he's making
bad decisions all across the board with his entering the NFL.
Once he's in the NFL, he continues to make bad decisions,
and I just don't know if there's anybody telling them contrary.

Speaker 1 (22:02):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (22:03):
And if he's listening to him, if he's listening to
his dad, his dad has gasting him up. He's always
gassed him up, and I just don't know. If that's
the advice that he should be listening to, even though
I don't know if he's going to listen to anything else.

Speaker 7 (22:16):
All right, well we move on to I forgot which
SoundBite we're going to next. Cam Ward, he was talking
about his team. Guys, it could be worse. The Titans
are owing for They just got shut out by the
Houston Texans, a team that isn't necessarily great, and they
are on the verge of firing Brian Callahan. I know
that was your guy Walker at one point during the

(22:37):
coaching church before they landed on Dave Canalis.

Speaker 1 (22:42):
Cam Ward puts it pretty plainly right here.

Speaker 9 (22:45):
I mean, we're keeping a book right now, we ask
so we own fo We have this point. We got
none to lose. We dropped a court of our games
and we've yet to do anything. So we have to
lock in, especially myself on the offensive line, from the
defensive line, from the special teams to all three faces.

Speaker 3 (23:02):
We have to play together.

Speaker 9 (23:03):
We have not played together this year yet.

Speaker 1 (23:06):
All right, So some.

Speaker 7 (23:06):
People have said that this was a little too harsh,
especially coming from a rookie quarterback. But what do you
think about these statements from cam Ward on his own team.

Speaker 1 (23:14):
I hate it. I hate it.

Speaker 5 (23:16):
I hate it.

Speaker 3 (23:16):
When I heard him say it, I immediately cringed Cam Newton.
I mean not Cam Newton. Cam Ward has been cursing
and interviewed since he got into the league. He has
a stop. You got to be more of a professional
on the podium. I get what he's saying. I get
the spirit of a message, but you also got to
understand too, obviously, being the quarterback, the position that you're in,
being an African American quarterback, the position you're in, kids

(23:38):
looking at you as an example as well. I hated
that he got up there and you know, use the
type of language that he did. He could have got
his message across a lot better than that. But you know,
it's indicative of the way that the Titans I'm playing
right now. And again, I get it, he's angry. I
don't know how long after the game this was, or
whatever the case may be, but he's been doing this
kind of since the beginning, since he got in the league.

(24:00):
Through the process. He's got to carry himself better. So
I couldn't stand this press conference from cam Wood.

Speaker 2 (24:06):
Yet it didn't bother me, But I also if he
continued to violate FCC regulations. That would be the big
issue in my opinion, because this one is a word
that we actually use today. So we've used this word today.
I didn't mind it. I also have not seen as
many of the interviews as you've talked about. I've seen
some of the clips with him a Shador Sanders playing

(24:28):
football and he's cursing quite a bit. So if he
continues to do it in interviews, yeah, you probably would
advise him not to if you're Tennessee pr. But what
I would say is just don't use any of the bad,
bad ones. Don't use any of the ones that would
get the NFL in trouble, because when you get the
NFL in trouble, now you're going to start to have
to pay some money. And you don't want to pay
money on your rookie scale deal. Even if you're making

(24:49):
a lot of dell right now, you still don't want
to have to pay a lot of money. If you
start using the F word and you start using other ones,
and then they're going to have to come for that paycheck.
Now it becomes an issue for you, like selfish, don't
say it. It's not because you bring a bad image.
To Tennessee. It's because we're trying to protect your wallet
and maybe a little bit of the Titans.

Speaker 1 (25:07):
So I didn't mind it. I understood what he was
saying here and what I really liked.

Speaker 2 (25:12):
The reason I like it, quite frankly, is because he
did take accountability himself, saying it starts with me, it
starts with the offensive line, it starts with everybody. I
think the bigger issue, especially in the locker room, is
if he would have separated himself rather than talk about
everybody in that arena, including himself. Schador, on the contrary,
seems to be separating himself from the team. It's me

(25:34):
who's better than all of these other quarterbacks were Cam
is very much. We we are an issue. Everybody is
the issue, including myself, and that's what needs to be fixed.
I'm going to do everything that I can to fix
my part. Hopefully everybody does theirs.

Speaker 1 (25:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (25:46):
I think it actually showed some leadership, which is what
you want from your rookie quarterback. The thing is you
bring up a good point in terms of the cursing
and everything like that when you're up doing press conference,
is maybe you don't have to bring those words to it.

Speaker 1 (26:00):
Every single time.

Speaker 2 (26:01):
Alter Nostalgia also says he did say the F word,
and you're not wrong. I forgot about that. So, yes,
the FCC stuff, Yeah, don't do that Game four. I
missed that part. I heard the beat because I forgotten.

Speaker 3 (26:12):
Because I've seen him too, and it hasn't been at
the podium, but I've seen him in interviews after the
draft process once he's been drafted, you know, like when
they'll be like post practice or something like that, and
the reporters will be around him hanging out, and he
gets loose with his language in those things.

Speaker 2 (26:26):
Yeah, and I would say we have this issue with LaMelo.
We have Queen City. Oh no, no, And it's an issue.
I do think, Hey, LaMelo, like even for your money sake,
I don't you got plenty of it, but you don't
have to pay all these fines, man, if you just
tighten it up just a little bit. Unfortunately, I think

(26:46):
that limits all the stuff that he wants to say,
and we don't get very many soundbites. Is what leads
to your star player only having I think a five
minute session up.

Speaker 1 (26:55):
There at the table when he speaks at media day, Yes,
it was five minutes.

Speaker 2 (26:58):
Yeah, So that's all it is with LaMelo, So you're
not wrong, I would say, is there a compromise, Just
don't violate any FCC regulations.

Speaker 3 (27:05):
Hey, he needs somebody to get in his ind tell
him to be a dog on pro because you see
Jack's message on the FANDU text line as well with
how he was talking to media day, so he just
needs to do it.

Speaker 2 (27:15):
I do not, but I'm sure it's more cursing in
things that he's not allowed to say, and I will
and I will listen to that.

Speaker 1 (27:21):
I'm trying to look forward with Will Mellow.

Speaker 7 (27:23):
It's also a little bit different, like I don't know,
have we We've seen Cam do interviews on television before,
and I feel like he's a little bit more. He
takes into account that you are on television. He kind
of knows, okay, probably can't curse on TV. It seems
like the press conferences he's really into the cursing though.
Well yeah, and I think he's trying to do it

(27:45):
because he thinks it fires guys up. But somebody's just
got to tell him, like, dude, you can you can
fire guys up and convey the message.

Speaker 1 (27:51):
Just a little bit differently.

Speaker 2 (27:52):
One other thing about this real quickly, founder correct me
if I'm wrong. Bryce Young speaks to media every single week. Correct, Yeah,
he's to him on Wednesdays. Yeah, that's right. So that's
an NFL rule. Quarterbacks, head coaches, quarterbacks, coordinators, they all
speak to media every single week.

Speaker 7 (28:10):
Unless your quarterback's like questionable, I think then you don't
have to, right, But cam Ward is not questionable.

Speaker 2 (28:15):
He's your starting quarterback. He's the first overall selection. With
a LaMelo type case, you don't have to put him
up at the table or at the lectin or at
the podium wherever he's speaking, so you can dodge some
of those issues.

Speaker 1 (28:27):
If you're Tennessee, cam has to go up there.

Speaker 3 (28:30):
Yeah, And it's just the fact though with LaMelo, he's
the guy, so you you don't have to, but then
you kind of do because he's the guy.

Speaker 1 (28:37):
Yeah. Fair.

Speaker 2 (28:38):
I guess there's no rule stadium every single week, And
maybe that's not true. Maybe it is every week and
we just don't see it every single game because it's
not apples to apples comparing the NFL schedule to the
NBA schedule. But I think that's what's interesting about the
NFL in Tennessee. There's no hiding Cam. He has to
speak every single week. He's got to go up there,
and maybe it won't be with the same kind of

(28:59):
fire after a loss. That's fair, But I imagine Tennessee
pr is talking to him saying, dude, can we chill
just a little bit?

Speaker 1 (29:07):
That would be great.

Speaker 7 (29:08):
Which, all right, let's talk a little bit about LaMelo
balls team. We're not gonna talk about LaMelo specifically, but
yesterday we had a chance to sit down with Brandon
Miller and one of the guys that he was really
fired up to talk about was Colin Sexton, and he
says that the motor is the biggest reason why he's
fired up about him being a part of this team.

Speaker 10 (29:24):
But one thing about Colin, his motor is always going
to be high. You know, every day he walks into
the facility, every day he walks in the building, he's
gonna have a smile on his face talking to everybody,
and then he's gonna, you know, once he stepped into lines,
it's all business. It's gonna be you know, high motor Colin.
And you know, I think that's one thing fans won't
have to worry about. Colin is his motor all right?

Speaker 1 (29:45):
So simple question here.

Speaker 7 (29:46):
But a guy that is looking like he is going
to be the sixth man for the Hornets, is he
the X factor for this season for this team?

Speaker 3 (29:53):
Ooh, X factor for this season? I would say no,
but not by much. But I think he He's going
to pay a lot of dividends on and off the court.
On the court as far as him taking good shots,
getting good shots for his teammates, that's going to be
a huge.

Speaker 1 (30:09):
Beneficial factor of him being out there.

Speaker 3 (30:12):
And also to the way that you know, he can
push LaMelo ball in practice and help him out during
game scenarios, that they can help each other with what
they're seeing and what they're doing. But yeah, I think
that he's going to be big for the Hornets this year,
But I don't know that I would call him the
X factor.

Speaker 1 (30:29):
I think he is.

Speaker 2 (30:31):
I think it might be well, Brandon Miller or Collin Sexton. Okay,
And so we had to do a twenty minute segment
for the Lockdown podcast network. Twenty minute. My god, I
don't know why I said that a minute segment. I
don't know why I said twenty minutes. I don't know
why that number came to mind, But it wasn't that
can I do a twenty minute It happened one minute segment,

(30:54):
one minute segment. I have no clue what's wrong with me.
I had to give a one minute clip, thank you
and send it in to the higher ups at locked On,
and they had us answer the biggest question about each team, right,
all of us had to answer the biggest question about
each team. So the biggest question I had for the
Hornets or whether LaMelo and Brandon would take the type
of leap that would allow you to believe in them

(31:15):
being the duo that leads the squad to the postseason.
And so I think with that, we've already seen LaMelo
make an All Star team. We know that he's capable
of it. We don't know for sure that Brandon Miller
is capable of it. So that's why I might go
with Brandon Miller. The reason I'm going to go with
Colin Sexton is because at the very least, you're going
to get good shooting numbers from a talented basketball player
that we have seen get to twenty points per game

(31:38):
on decent efficiency. You'd like to see that go up
for Brandon. The overall forty field goal percentage is pretty bad.
But Brandon Miller I feel good about him being a
big time contributor. Same thing with LaMelo. With Colin, I
think so much of his X factor is what you
talked about challenging LaMelo in practice every single day, which
is going to have an impact on the team while

(31:58):
also being a guy that can just come off of
the bench or start and maybe give you fifteen points
per game. And is he going to drive to the
basket because we just don't have those types of players.
He gives you something very different in that regard. I
think that's why I would go with Colin Sex, but
Brandon Miller is also very close second to me with
that question.

Speaker 1 (32:16):
What else you got flound all?

Speaker 6 (32:18):
Right?

Speaker 7 (32:18):
Well, we finish up with the head coach of the
Carolina Panthers, Dave Canalis, speaking to media yesterday and they
had to be asked, what was the thought behind the
third and ten choice to run the football?

Speaker 11 (32:32):
Yeah, I thought we had an advantage in some of
the fronts that we were getting, and you thought we'd
had a clean look right there to try to steal
some yards potentially get us into a four down situation
where we can keep the drive going and try to
get a touchdown out of it. So we were kind
of in that zone right there. The run did not
work out. They stopped us right there, so we were
forced to.

Speaker 1 (32:51):
Punt, all right.

Speaker 11 (32:52):
Your initial thought of trying to keep the play going,
like maybe getting fourth down, or was it trying to
get a little closer for a field goal, though both.

Speaker 1 (33:00):
You could accomplish.

Speaker 11 (33:02):
You could accomplish either thing in that situation, and we
thought we had an advantage.

Speaker 1 (33:06):
It didn't work out, all.

Speaker 7 (33:08):
Right, So do you understand now a little bit more
where Dave is coming from or is it still egregious
that he decided to run the ball on third and
ten with a play that eventually pretty much changed the game.

Speaker 6 (33:20):
Man.

Speaker 3 (33:21):
You know, football is so situational, and so when coaches
come out and say stuff like that, play calling is
so tough, and you could disagree with it, obviously, but
I think that sometimes coaches, man, they know that personnel,
they know what they have, and they just feel like
in a situation like that, which I think it does
kind of speak to the fact that he feels terrified

(33:42):
to have to try and get ten yards because he
looked at the passing charge they don't really push the
football down the field like that. So I guess it
felt like in that situation that he thought that it
could end up in a turnover, or he was just
scared to death that maybe it could. But I think
it does speak to some of the points that we
were talking to earlier, just calling an uber conservative game plan,

(34:03):
that he is just petrified of the bad outcomes.

Speaker 2 (34:06):
Scared money don't make none, didn't make any against the
New England Patriots, and you played scared, you called scared.
If ric o'dowdell, let's say that you actually do have
a successful play on that rundown what ended up being
a rundown. So ric o'dowdell goes for seven eight yards,
what are you looking at? A four and five? I
forget the yards. There was it third and fifteen that

(34:27):
he ran? Or was it third and ten?

Speaker 1 (34:29):
Third and ten? Third and ten?

Speaker 2 (34:30):
There was five, So now you're looking at a fourth
and five. It's not the greatest in the world. I'd
like to get an even closer than that to where
maybe then you can run the football. But even still
now you have to pass at some point, I guess
would be my question, because are you going to run
it on third and ten and four and fourth and five,
like at some point you're going to have to pass
the football if you want to get back into this thing,

(34:50):
or you just settle for the field goal. To which
are we talking about three more yards being all the
difference in Ryan Fitzgerald? And if so, then maybe Ryan
Fitzgerald isn't kicker like that. We thought he might be
after the first three after the first three games. But
I didn't like the answer. It speaks to something larger
than just those specific runs, and that he looked like

(35:11):
he was calling that game scared and scared. Money just
doesn't win you any football games, man, And you got
destroyed and this one with even when you were down,
it didn't look like you had a sense of urgency
to get back in that football game. That has to
fall on coaching. That has to fall on coaching. It's
Weston Walker Sports Radio ninety two to seven WFNZ. It's
the walk off coming.

Speaker 5 (35:32):
Up next, a big crown.

Speaker 1 (35:44):
Are the challenge for me to walk off? Oh yeah,
that's a walk off challenge, my friend. It's a walk off.
It's a walk off.

Speaker 2 (35:57):
Wrapping things up on Wesson Walker Sports Radio ninety seven WFNZ.
Let's not waste any time here either. Let's just go
ahead and tell you what is on tap, presented by
Twin Peaks. Twin Peaks has locations in Concord and Fort Mill.
Twin Peaks use a local sports lodge, come in from
Made from Scratch food and signature twenty nine degree Draft
Beers West. The season is finally over. Got baseball to

(36:19):
talk about? Yeah, postseason baseball? Can we say zero games left?
Or do you want me to ask you how many posts?

Speaker 3 (36:27):
Zero games left? And then there's one hundred and one
games to go on the preseason.

Speaker 2 (36:31):
It's a long postseason, long postseason in Major League Baseball.
But we actually have a matchup taking place right now.
It is the AL Wild Card Game one between the
Cleveland Guardians and the Detroit Tigers. It's all tied up
in the top of the seventh actually, so you had Williams.
I'm looking at Gavin Williams pitching for the Guardians to

(36:52):
start things off, and I know it's Schooble, Is it,
Tarik Schooble? Is that how you pronounced his first name, Derek?
I know, I knew it was going to be in
the opposite of whatever I said, And this guy has
been nothing but absolutely amazing the last couple of years.
A monster, Yeah, just an absolute monster. So anyways, this
is a win for the Guardians as far as I'm concerned,
if they're able to be tied with Scooble.

Speaker 7 (37:14):
On the mound going into the last couple the Tigers.
The Tigers have not been playing well here. There's a
reason that the Tigers are not at home. They have
one of the more epic collapses that is only really
the reason why people aren't talking about it is because
the Mets collapse is arguably worse. So I mean, this
is a series where yeah, Scooble, if they can steal

(37:35):
one today, maybe they feel good about their chances to
steal another one. But I think Cleveland probably the favorite
in this series. One of the hottest teams in all
of Major League Baseball coming into this game, I believe
with their final series. I think they came in like
nineteen and three or twenty and two in their last
twenty two games, so.

Speaker 1 (37:56):
They're on fire.

Speaker 2 (37:57):
So whoever wins this well up facing the two seeded
Seattle Mariners, to which West has called his ms quite
frequently over the last I would say week or so.

Speaker 1 (38:10):
I've been. I've been man us from the jump. No,
I've heard my ms a lot more though than all
baseball season. Yeah, I mean they're doing anything. Yeah, for sure.
How do you feel about it? I feel like a
guy who you know, I had watched them that season.

Speaker 3 (38:25):
I mean not only you know they play late as hell,
they out there on the West Coast. But no, I'm
excited for them to be back in postseason play man.
And I know, like I said, over the last couple
of months, they really turned it on. So I'm excited
to watch them in the playoffs. So I will be
watching their games in the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (38:38):
All right.

Speaker 2 (38:39):
Should we ask for West's baseball breakdown at the end
of each Seattle in this game?

Speaker 1 (38:43):
Yep, we could. It's up to you. It's up to you, man,
if you want to give us a baseball.

Speaker 2 (38:48):
I just got to lock in. Well, I know, I
didn't know if you wanted to lock in or not.
You're a busy man, Yeah, you a little uh a
little baseball baseball West. That's happening, all right. We also
have the n A wild Card Game one between the
Cubs and the Padres. It's gonna be at Wrigley Field,
Matthew Boyd on the mound against Nick Pivetta. That's three
pm here, very soon will be first pitch. Red Sox

(39:09):
Yankees smokes in the building. Come on, Red Sox smoke.
Are you feeling okay about your Boston Red Sox against
the New York Yankees in game one of their Wildli Series.

Speaker 12 (39:21):
It definitely helps that you have Garrett Crochet on the
mound for game one. And if there's anyone that's even
been at the level of Trek Scoogle this year, it's
been Garrett Crochet. It's basically a dog fight between those
two to who will win the al Cy Young.

Speaker 1 (39:35):
So definitely gonna be intriguing. I'm just nervous because.

Speaker 12 (39:40):
I don't think Roman Anthony's playing so and that's been
the star player, the young phenom for the Red Sox,
and so you're gonna have to rely on Alex Bregman
getting a lot of hits. Hopefully Yashida continues to, you know,
finish off his strong end of the year. The Faniel
Low you got guys like that. But here's what's also
been one of the biggest things this year is Eraldest

(40:01):
Chapman has finally figured out how to direct pitches. He's
been playing his whole entire career without knowing how to
direct pitches to to mid and what the location is
going to be, and he's had a borderline Hall of
Fame career of cat He finally figured it out this year.
So to have a closer like Chapman finally figure his
stuff out while still throwing over one hundred miles an
hour's big. I would also say keep an eye on

(40:21):
will you'r o bray you for the Red Sox.

Speaker 1 (40:23):
Okay, he's going.

Speaker 2 (40:24):
Excellent breakdown by the way, Eradess Chapman seems like a
Wes Bryant guy. Did you like Eraldest Chapman? Yes, I
felt like you're You're a big star guy, somebody that
we have and I'd same here watching him go for
What was the hardest pitch ever thrown?

Speaker 6 (40:37):
Was it one? Oh?

Speaker 1 (40:38):
Did we get to one?

Speaker 9 (40:38):
Oh?

Speaker 6 (40:39):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (40:40):
Something like that? Five memory? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah.

Speaker 2 (40:45):
That so robust Chapman still being in the game despite
throwing that kind of gas pretty pretty crazy. Max Freed
on the mount, by the way, for the Yankees, So
brace fans, No Max Freed, come on it.

Speaker 1 (40:55):
Sucks.

Speaker 2 (40:57):
Uh and final game NL wild Card game and the
Dodgers Reds series.

Speaker 1 (41:02):
Yeah yeah, sorry about that. Wow, No, no, no, look
I've said it.

Speaker 7 (41:07):
I said it earlier when when Fitty came in here
and got mad about Colin saying about his Reds. You
cannot be mad at the Reds for making the postseason.
You should be mad at the Mets for sucking, because
that's what the Mets did at the end of the year.
They went from twenty one games over five hundred to
missing the playoffs. And guess what, you are the third

(41:28):
team in Major League Baseball history to do that. The
only other teams are the Cleveland Spiders in like nineteen
oh five, who you had to win the AL to
make the World Series, and the Cubs in nineteen seventy seven,
where you had to win your division to make All
you had to do was be a wildcard team, a
team that sucked, by the way, because they were like

(41:49):
four games over five hundred. That's what the Cincinnati Reds
were and you couldn't even do that. Blame yourself, not
the other team.

Speaker 5 (41:58):
I like it.

Speaker 2 (41:59):
Multiple gruns in the ground, well, grunt deserved Dodgers hosting
the Reds, Blake Snell on the mound for La Hunter
Green on the bump for the Reds nine pm.

Speaker 1 (42:10):
First pitch.

Speaker 2 (42:11):
So we'll have some baseball breakdowns for you as the
postseason goes along. And can you give us a recap
of what happened on Monday Night Raw last night? We
were able to check that out. I got to watch
it later.

Speaker 1 (42:24):
Monday Night Raw gets moved to Tuesdays. Okay, we have
a wfn Z podcast if you want me to preview
that for you.

Speaker 2 (42:31):
Is Tuesday Night Raw during football season, Tuesday Night Raw
for West. There's also a Tuesday night episode of Blank
for Flound Dog, He'll tough blog what you got?

Speaker 1 (42:40):
It would be the Four Corners podcast.

Speaker 7 (42:42):
Tonight we're talking the what If series again, closing it
out with the twenty tens, so we'll be talking about
twenty twelve. If you want to see Josh potentially cry.

Speaker 2 (42:54):
So if Cormac Ryan makes you cry, then there's got
to be a lot of things that make you cry.

Speaker 1 (43:00):
There's a lot, you know what.

Speaker 6 (43:01):
You know what.

Speaker 1 (43:02):
One of the topics was that we broached in the
last one.

Speaker 7 (43:04):
We went back to two thousand and six and said,
what if Tyler Hansborough never comes to Carolina. I got
to tell you that was the hardest topic that I've
ever had to talk about, because I don't know what
I would do with myself if I did not have
Tyler Hansbrough.

Speaker 1 (43:18):
A part of Carolina is.

Speaker 2 (43:19):
Who are you battling? Who's Carolina battling for Tyler Hansboro,
Missouri out of his home state? I figured, Yeah, yeah,
Poplar Bluff. What's a wake Forest moment that does make
you cry or almost make you cry watching them move?

Speaker 3 (43:35):
I mean, all the bad losses you want to talk about,
what if you know you have to go to What
if Tim Duncan they don't go to the Bahamas and
find Tim Duncan?

Speaker 1 (43:44):
What if that?

Speaker 3 (43:45):
That would have definitely changed the trajectory and it would
have given us even more postseason regular season disappointment than
we've already had.

Speaker 7 (43:53):
Yeah, it could be a positive what if too, Like,
you know, what if what if Wake four sends up
landing Michael Jordan or something like that?

Speaker 1 (44:04):
Yeah, what if we won our first game in a
ACC tournament?

Speaker 5 (44:07):

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
