Speaker 1 (00:00):
You were listening to the Wes and Walker Show. Are
you telling me, after.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Fifteen years of unanswered prayers, we finally get our rint
protector only for Dorian Finney Smith and Danilo Gallinari. It's
Wes fifty two year old Danilo Gallinari to mess it
all up. Let's go seven games, seven games into the
gear man? Are you telling me I actually miss Cody
(00:26):
Zeller and Walker? Forget o hornet starter jacket. I need
a straight jacket. I'm going crazy. I'm rocking back and
forth in fetal position only on Sports Radio ninety two
point seven AFM WFNZ, longing.
Speaker 3 (00:39):
For the days of Cody Zeller. That's right, we played
that rejoined for a reason. Fifty two year old Danilo Gallinari.
Speaker 4 (01:05):
Well, he's about what probably fifty five year old Danilo
Gallinari now.
Speaker 1 (01:11):
Matach checks out sixteen.
Speaker 4 (01:13):
Years in the NBA. He is calling it a career officially.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
He tweets out today with a heart full of gratitude.
I am announcing my retirement from the career I've always
dreamed of. It's been an incredible journey filled with countless
memories that I will carry with me for the rest
of my life, including beating the Hornets fifty two times.
All right, I might have made that last part. Thank
you from the bottom of my heart. Fifty two year
old Danielo Gallinari. He's retiring from basketball, Thank goodness for me,
(01:43):
just because I'll always think of that SoundBite after the
Hornets lost to the windless Wizards. Basically, I don't even
care where they were. They feel winless, they feel windless
except for the times that they played the Hornets.
Speaker 1 (01:54):
That's right.
Speaker 3 (01:55):
They swept the Hornets last year, beat them every single time,
and it was two years ago. Three Just Danila, I.
Speaker 2 (02:02):
Mean a little bit of a sad day for you,
by any chance, a former Nick draft pick who actually
hit on the value and when you selected him, like Daniela,
was a pretty good basketball player for.
Speaker 5 (02:13):
You, solid, solid player was one of the guys.
Speaker 4 (02:17):
That, of course, was during that stretch where the Knicks
just said, you know what, are you a foreign basketball player?
Speaker 3 (02:24):
Yeah, no doubt, We're taking you, and we're gonna hate you.
The fan base isna fan base.
Speaker 4 (02:29):
Is gonna boo the hell out of you when you
first get up there. They're gonna hate your guts, But
eventually you'll be a solid enough player. The thing that
I always love about him is how could you not?
He's what got you Carmelo Anthony. He was part of
that deal, so you can't be angry at him. I
think that's why I always hold a special place in
(02:49):
my heart for Danilo.
Speaker 5 (02:51):
It would have been cool to see him come.
Speaker 4 (02:52):
Back to the Knicks here recently, maybe close out his
career there or something like that. But really an NBA journeyman,
I mean, and he spends most time in Denver, but
I mean you're talking New York, Denver, La, Oklahoma City, Atlanta, Washington, Detroit,
and Milwaukee. So if you're looking for a sports reference guy, yeah,
(03:15):
if you guys still do the uh immaculate grid, this
is one of your guys right here.
Speaker 3 (03:19):
DANIELO Gallinari, a gifted offensive player. Having played for so long,
was a double digit score all the way up until
really we got to.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
Thirty three year old season in twenty twenty one, twenty two.
Speaker 3 (03:32):
All right, tip of the cap, Danilo Gallinari, and congratulations
on a long and productive we can say that productive
career all right. Time Now for the live Wire with
flound Dog, who has got a hopper full of sound
for you.
Speaker 6 (03:45):
That's right.
Speaker 1 (03:49):
He's in the west.
Speaker 5 (03:50):
West up and off down live wise.
Speaker 4 (03:54):
All right, and let's go with one of our favorites
here on the live wire. How about Brian Baldinger. Well,
he's breaking down a player. It's not Derek Brown. How
about Laithan Ransom. He really likes the way he's playing.
Speaker 7 (04:08):
I like watching the Panthers defense play. Obviously Derek Brown,
but there's a bunch of guys. How about Lathan Ransom, Like,
don't blink, he's a beaby band, Like he just blows
people up. You watch him play off the wide receiver
out here, like keep that outside arm free, like he
was well schooled at Ohio State.
Speaker 1 (04:26):
You watch him come out of the sky right here.
Speaker 7 (04:28):
It's like a meteor crashing to earth, like a fifteen
yard head start, like tell.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
Me just mango.
Speaker 7 (04:34):
Kyron Williams right there, like one play after another. You
watch him like he's just fun, like everything is full speed,
like it's.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
Just full metal jacket. And when he hits you, he
hurts you.
Speaker 7 (04:50):
And then when you want to blitz, like right here,
the old Sam safety blitz right here, you can pick
up one, you can't pick up two. Bam, there's that
media coming to earth right here, take you down Stafford,
Leith and Ransom. I don't blake He's a blur well man.
He will strike you.
Speaker 6 (05:09):
Well.
Speaker 4 (05:10):
One thing, we need to get Brian Baldinger on the
air at some point if possible, because this dude loves
the freaking Carolina Panthers. But how about Leathan Ransom in
his first career start, I believe because I don't remember
him starting earlier in the season. He was in there
for Trayvon Marrig. What did you think about his performance?
And is he one of the guys we should probably
(05:31):
be talking a little bit more about after this win
for the Panthers than we have.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
I think that's fine.
Speaker 3 (05:36):
I think he's an adequate Trayvon Marrigg replacement and somebody
that I have high hopes for the future on. If
you not that you're going to move on from Marrig.
It's the classic coverage thing for Ransom. We knew that
he was much more of a run stuffer coming out
of college than he was great and coverage more of
the strong safety build than he was the free safety build.
But if you subscribe to PFF grades, he's got a
ninety tackling grade like and you can see it. That's
(05:59):
one where you don't just need to have blind faith
in the grades from PFF. You can watch it on film.
Oh that guy tackles pretty damn well. That's why you're
in the blue. That's why it's elite. Same thing with
the run defense eighty five, that's why it's an elite
run defense grade. You can see him boom, just like
Brian Baldinger talked about breaking down the film, you can
see it. A lot of those boxes are checked off.
(06:19):
I think in coverage that's the thing where he's known
to struggle in a little bit more so, so maybe
he gets better at that and then you can use
him in a variety of ways. But when it's close
to the line of scrimmage and it's time to hit you,
as you heard Baldy say, it's a full metal jacket,
and you'd love to see it from somebody like Leithan Ransom.
How about a rookie performing in a big spot against
the Rams being a big part. Having played fifty two
(06:43):
fifty two fifty two total snaps for Lathan Ransom in
this game against the Rams and they won. Labeled as
that free safety spot. So like, yeah, man Lathan Ransom
played real well. We should applaud him for his performance.
Speaker 5 (06:54):
Oh, there's no doubt about that.
Speaker 4 (06:55):
How about another guy that played in the NFL also
to really like the Carolina Panthers as the season has
gone along. We'll go with Chris Canty from unsportsman Like.
He makes the case for the Panthers making a little
bit of a run here down the.
Speaker 8 (07:09):
Stretch after just showing what they're capable of by beating
the team that was in pole position to have the
number one seed in the NFC, why can't the Carolina
Panthers in the final four games of the season get
on a little bit of a role they control their
own destiny because they got two dates with Campbell and
then they've got a roll game against New Orleans and
home against Seattle. I'm just saying that the Carolina Panthers
could be one of those teams that catches lightning in
(07:31):
a bottle.
Speaker 3 (07:32):
Yes, but they're not like you feel like the Texans
are right, They're not like dangerous in that spot.
Speaker 1 (07:37):
They're just we don't know what they are.
Speaker 3 (07:39):
Like you've said, the Texans are that the one team
that no one wants to face.
Speaker 5 (07:44):
Do we feel that way about Carolina?
Speaker 8 (07:46):
Everybody and they Mama trusted the La Rams and called
them the best team in football going into Week thirteen.
I did it, and the Carolina Panthers just whooped the ass.
You tell me the team that the Carolina Panthers can't beat?
Speaker 5 (07:58):
All right?
Speaker 4 (07:59):
So do you think that the Panthers, or maybe the
NFC version of the Texans, that team that at this
point in the season no one wants to play.
Speaker 6 (08:09):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (08:09):
I think people now understand that it's not going to
be an easy time to play Carolina and you better
come correct or you just might lose that football game.
It's why I respect Sean McVay so much. He said
after the game. I refuse to believe that we took
them lightly.
Speaker 1 (08:23):
We didn't.
Speaker 3 (08:24):
We really put a game plan like we would for
anybody else, any other opponent that we respect. It's just
that the Carolina Panthers were the better football team. They
connected on explosive fourth and third down touchdown plays, They
ran the football really effectively, They stuck to their game plan,
and we had a couple of killer turnovers.
Speaker 1 (08:40):
But we did not take them lightly.
Speaker 2 (08:42):
Maybe you can account for the cross country trip the
ten am start.
Speaker 1 (08:46):
I mean, I don't know.
Speaker 5 (08:47):
I spare me.
Speaker 3 (08:48):
Well, if it's at play, like okay, maybe there's just
something we can't see that isn't tangible that might be
at play with both of those caveats, but we always
mentioned at the same time Matthews could have just missed
a couple of throws because it was raining. Does it
matter what time the game starts, how much you travel
if it's a little rainy and you miss a few throws.
(09:09):
I know Bryce didn't on some of those throws downfield.
Maybe Stafford just missed a couple and maybe you just
had the worst timed turnovers that you can possibly have
and a pick six and two, one close to the
red area, one directly in the red area, and Carolina
took advantage of all of it.
Speaker 1 (09:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (09:26):
Man, you're starting to see a bunch of national hosts
adopt the Panthers as their favorite team. You saw that
with Chris Canty. Brian Baldinger seems to love Carolina. It's
funny how we get all. You know, Chris Sims is
now showing them love, even if the Panthers they fight
back against that notion. Hey, Chris Man, stay on that
side after they put out that social media video of
(09:47):
Chris Sims saying that they're going to get destroyed against us.
That's right, Panthers saying, Nope, here's a line of the sand.
You stay on that side, all right. It's an abbreviated
version of the Live Wire because we got to go
to somebody else, a part of national media talk about
the Panthers and maybe the rest of the NFL. Chris Rose,
one of my favorite anchors out there doing it. He
joins us on the other side. Sports Radio ninety two
(10:08):
to seven WFNZ. I always get shivers when I listened
to this instrumental. It's always such a good beat.
Speaker 1 (10:25):
You know, you like it. You kind of like that,
such a good you like some of the dark stuff.
You like the.
Speaker 3 (10:32):
I know it might be we'll get you checked out
over there, all right, talk to me after the show.
It's Wes and Walker Sports Radio ninety two seven WFNZ.
We got to talk after the show because we have
to welcome Chris Rose to the program, a part of
NFL network, and I think Merrett Media actually just dropped
an article about Chris with John Malorie saying that he
believes no one is better than Chris at adding context
and texture to highlight narration. I completely agree. We've had
(10:56):
him on one time before I said it. He's the
guy that brings me back to the old school days
of what highlight narration should be, watching Sports Center and
all of it. I'm happy to have you man, Chris.
Thank you so much for the time. How are you
doing doing great? Appreciate the kind words.
Speaker 6 (11:10):
Thank you. Yeah, we we have a lot of fun
on Sundays. I mean it's I mean you need to
sit and watch football all day and then go out
and scream about it for an hour in a fun
way without like screaming at people, but screaming about football.
It's really fun. So I appreciate that a lot.
Speaker 3 (11:27):
Thank you, and maybe we just set up camp here
for a moment before we dive into some panther stuff.
I mean, again, you had the article written about you
a part of Barrett Media, so maybe this is a
weird question to ask, but how much work do you
put into highlight narration? Because it does seem like you
have that same grip that that old school Sports Center
anchor slash highlight anchors used to have. On me, that
(11:51):
feels to be waiting just a little bit. And that's
not to hate on the new crop of Sports Center
anchors or anything like that. It's just I don't feel
like anybody has that grip on me nearly as much.
Outside of a select few. You are one of them. Like,
what is it? What is the secret to still having
that key element?
Speaker 6 (12:08):
Well, I think it's a few things. I mean, I
grew up in when Sports Center was at its peak, right,
So I grew up watching Berman do Sundays right, And
that's how everybody in my era kind of grew up
wanting to do this. You know, we didn't have the
ability to have Sunday ticket, we didn't have the ability
(12:29):
to watch every game. So at seven o'clock when the
late games before Sunday Night game were coming on, Berman
and Tom Jackson would take you through all of the games,
and sure we got a highlight here and there. When
you're watching let's say the four o'clock Eastern game, you know,
they'd do some highlight to halftime, but it just wasn't.
(12:51):
That wasn't the way it was. And even dating back further,
I mean Monday Night, I'm old enough to remember Howard
Cosell doing the halftime highlights for Monday night football, and
that's what made those games come to life and broad
energy and that's the number one thing I love the NFL.
(13:13):
And so why in the world would you not want
to put every ounce of energy you have into doing
a sixty minute highlight show. You just you owe it
to the viewers. You want to make it fun for
your yourself. I've got an amazing group of researchers and
editors that are putting together every game, and so basically
(13:34):
just kind of peel back the curtain real quick. Let's
say there's seven games of an early kick. I'll go
back and watch those at about five point thirty the
edited version of the games. So they take a three
hour and ten minute game and boil it down to
the three most important minutes, and I'll go back and
get what's called a shot sheet, which is essentially a
(13:54):
play by play, and it's my job to kind of
add the cool statistics that will help put things in person,
effective in context, but also have fun with certain things,
because at the end of the day, it's an entertainment business,
and so you want to bring that to it. And
it's you know, the late games that happen those four
o'clock window games. When I see the highlights for the
(14:15):
first time, You're seeing them for the first time too,
So we kind of do it together and that's what's fun.
Speaker 3 (14:20):
Chris again here, I am just lost an inside broadcast.
But how much of an appetite is there for that still?
Like that form of media, what it is that you do,
is it waning because maybe the skill and or other
formats are just going away from it because they're like,
for lack of a better word, being lazy about it. Like,
how much of an appetite is there still for what
(14:40):
it is that you guys do such a good job at.
Speaker 6 (14:44):
I still think there is, But I mean, you got
to be honest with yourself. Everybody has access to virtually
every highlight. I mean, you know the way that red
zone has has changed the sport. Can see virtually every play.
You're not going to see everyone. You just can't. And
(15:05):
Scotty does his best to bring you. I mean, they
bring you every touchdown, but they don't bring every play
and so maybe you know there's an important drive right
before the half, and that's kind of where we kind
of fill in the gaps. We try and tell the
story of what happened in the game, so that you go, oh, well,
maybe I didn't see that, but that was interesting, And
then they'll give you something else to talk with your
(15:27):
buddies about as to why there was a play that
they didn't see that was super important. I do think
that there's people that can do this, there's no question.
But we now live in an era and a society
where people are gravitating more towards people screaming at each
other and yelling louder and picking about six or seven
(15:48):
different topics and only talking about those. I still think
that there's room for other stuff and providing an entertainment
angle that way.
Speaker 3 (15:57):
I'm not going to yell it, Chris. I appreciate you
uping on with us. I'm not gonna yell at it.
But no, that seems weird. I'm not going to do that.
This isn't first take it. It's Chris Rose.
Speaker 6 (16:07):
Yeah. We can talk about we can talk about seven
different things. Let's see here. We'll talk about the Eagles
offense hating each other. We'll talk about the Cowboys and
why they're still live. We can talk about Patrick Mahomes
and the Chiefs. But we have to mention Taylor Swift.
We can talk about shador standers and why he's getting
screwed by Kevin's the fans. Keep am I missing anything else?
Speaker 1 (16:28):
Mike Tomlin job security.
Speaker 6 (16:30):
That's why Mike Tomlin right, the fans channing for him
to get fired and him agreeing with it. I think
that should probably do it for now, but maybe there's
one or two others.
Speaker 3 (16:43):
All right, I'll get our research team on it. They'll
come up with some more topics for us to discuss. Really,
my question for you, Chris Rose joining us here on
Weston Walker a part of the NFL network. Have the
Panthers become your adopted team like pretty much everybody else
in national media? Have they become your adopted team, a
team that you kind of secretly root for as well?
Speaker 6 (17:02):
Well? I will say this, if you had told me
at the beginning of the year that the Panthers would
have seven wins, I would have said, okay, did they
play thirty five games? Because I didn't think there was
any way that this team is going to be where
it is right now with a little bit more than
a month to go in the season. I actually believe
(17:25):
they're the biggest surprise in the NFL. And I'm not
saying that because I'm on your show. I honestly believe it.
Some people will say the Bears. I'm not shocked by
the Bears. I mean, the fact that they have is
they have a ton of talent, they really do. And
Ben Johnson's done a tremendous job, and Caleb has improved
and he's not taken the sacks, and they are getting
the ball to their playmakers, and they can run the ball,
(17:47):
and Manung guy has given them a great lift in
the backfield, and their defense is living on forcing turnovers.
I don't know how long that lasts, certainly when we
get to the playoffs, but it's been their calling card.
They've been great the Panthers, I particularly along along the
(18:08):
front line on both sides of football. I didn't think
they'd have enough to compete, and somehow they've hung in
here and here we are. They've got two games against
the team trailing by a half game in the standings,
and they're going to have a shot at this thing.
I cannot believe this is where they are, but good
(18:29):
for Dave Canalis and everybody else in that organization that
this is where they are.
Speaker 3 (18:34):
How much is your disbelief saturated with the whole Bryce
young skepticism and how surprised are you to see at
least every other week him give us a good game?
Speaker 6 (18:44):
Yeah? You know, I think that the organizations in kind
of an interesting turning point with him, because you know,
they're going to have to make up a decision at
the end of this year about picking up a fifth
year option, and I think that he has solidified that certainly.
I don't know if he's you know, could he end
up getting like a short ish extension, you know, like
(19:08):
a Baker Mayfield one in Tampa Bay, which is about
to get blown up because Baker's you know, gone past
that mark that that's possible. You know, Here's what I see.
Bryce is really good when he's out of the pocket.
I think he makes good decisions. I think he puts
the ball where he needs to be. I think inside
(19:28):
the pocket he struggles, he really does. They've tried to
get him help, right. They fortified the interior of that
offensive line through free agency, spent a lot of money
on a pair of guards, and I understand all that.
You know, making Tetoroha mcbillin a top ten pick has
been a home run for them. I mean, look, the
(19:49):
guy only catches one pass last week and it's the
game winner. But he has been outstanding. But you know,
with Bryce, he it just feels like he'll never be
better than on his best year, the twelve best quarterback
in the league, right and it is worse. He's going
(20:12):
to be twentieth, you know something like that. Like, I
think he'll be dependable, but I don't know if he'll
ever be great.
Speaker 3 (20:22):
Chris Rose joining us on Weston Walker Sports Radio ninety
two to seven WFNZ. Well, and the weird thing about
the NFL this year is, I know, when you bring
up parody, everybody kind of loses their mind whatever sport
you're discussing.
Speaker 1 (20:34):
But man, I'm.
Speaker 3 (20:35):
Still surprised to see guys like Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson,
Pat Mahomes led teams not only having the gap closed
between them in the middle of the pack, but them
just actually being in the middle of the pack. What
is it about the NFL this season as to why
we're seeing those teams not as good as they used to,
even Detroit out of the playoff picture. What's going on
in the NFL this season as to why we're seeing
(20:57):
so much jumbled up standings.
Speaker 6 (21:01):
I think it's hard when you pick that low, that
long to hit on everybody, It just is, it's really hard.
And that's why Philadelphia has done such an amazing job.
You know. It feels like every year they have guys
fall to them. This year was John Campbell, the year
(21:22):
before it was Nolan Smith. Those are guys that are
good football players that they didn't have to go up
and get. They didn't. How he didn't have to trade
up ten or fifteen spots to go get the guy
he wanted. It fell to those guys and it's worked
out great and in some cases for these teams that
just it hasn't. I mean, Buffalo cannot stop the run
(21:44):
at all, and that's going to be a real problem
when you get to the playoffs because they're going to
go against a couple of really well coached teams. I
think that will say, hey, listen, that's fine, we'll beat
you by running the ball forty times. We don't have
a problem doing that. Just don't give that monster Josh
Allen a chance to beat us late. You know, Mahomes
(22:05):
and the Chiefs. It is weird because they've hit on
so many picks on their defensive side of the football.
It's just offensively, you know. I mean, Rashi Rice has
come back and played great, he really has. You don't
have to like the kid. His decision making is whatever
it is off the field, but we're just talking about
(22:27):
a football player. He's damn good. And it feels like
they should be better than what they are. I think
that Jacksonville lost has kind of hung with them a
little bit, to be honest with you. That's a game
it felt like they dominated and they were about to
go in and then ends up throwing a hundred yard
interception that Devin Lloyd returns and I don't know if
(22:50):
the Chiefs have rebounded from that. That's a game where
I think, if you look back at their season, that's
to me, that's the turning point right there. Not only
that game, but that play has for whatever reason, they
haven't been able to get out of a funk.
Speaker 3 (23:04):
Chris, do you still think that the Rams are the
best team in the NFL despite their loss of the Panthers.
Speaker 6 (23:09):
I do, Yeah, I do. I do because I think
their defense is really really good. You know, when we
talk about Sean mcvayh and his coaching style. We strictly
focus on the offense, and I understand it. I mean,
Matthew Stafford is I think will probably end up winning
his first MVP. He's played great until last week. He's
(23:32):
got two incredible receivers. He's got a bunch of tight
ends that he can now rely on. They fortify that
offensive line for the most part. They have two guys
that can run the ball well. But defensively, that's the
stud defense. I mean, let's remember they were the only
team that gave Philadelphia a tough time last year in
(23:53):
the playoffs. It wasn't Kansas City, I mean, the Super
Bowl sucked. It wasn't the NFC Title Game, Washington was overmatched.
It was that game where if they can get you know,
unfortunately out of whatever, a sixth or seventh round center
in the game and he got blown up on two
(24:13):
consecutive plays in the red zone or else, it's Philadelphia
that's going home and LA's going to end up hosting
the NFC championship game. So they were that close to
maybe in my opinion, winning the whole thing last year.
So I think he'll be the favorite, but it's not
a heavy favorite at all.
Speaker 3 (24:32):
Chris Rose joining us on Weston Walker Sports Rady ninety
two to seven WFNZ. Last thing or a couple things
before we get you out of here. Chris one national
NFL analyst that has adopted the Panthers, we believe at
least as his favorite team. It's been Brian Baldinger. I mean,
we Panthers fans have been obsessed with the Baldi breakdowns.
My question is you, oh, they're They're terrific. We've seen
(24:55):
a lot of Panthers a part of the Baldi breakdowns tomorrow.
A phrase from a co worker of mine like, have
you seen Bob Ross paint before? Have you seen him
in real time go through some of the Baldy breakdowns
and what is that experience like if you have?
Speaker 6 (25:10):
So, I you know, I only see Baldy a couple
times a year. Usually I'll catch him at a camp
in August or something like that. But we're on opposite coast,
so he doesn't come out to La very much. And
this is my home base and where I do my work.
So unfortunately, I have yet to see the sausage being
made or anything. But I know that that guy goes
(25:31):
nuts overthinks and it's so fun because things have got,
you know. I also work in the YouTube world with
John Boy Media where I do my baseball content, and
things look really good on YouTube. They've gotten to the
point where they're sharp, they're well done. You know. Chase
Daniels puts out a great thing each week where he
breaks down quarterbacks and it's easy to follow. It's easy
(25:54):
to see. Baldise looks like it's constructed in something where
you know, Buffalo Bill from Silence to the Lambs would
have it a lap down in a basement or something.
You know, like Baldy's down there Jrumy Berkbar Durham Dog
while he's working on you know, while he's working on
creating these masterpieces. They're shot in such a weird what
(26:19):
was the one movie, the Blair Witch Project.
Speaker 3 (26:23):
Yeah, for sure, it's an amateur camera work going on,
no doubt about it.
Speaker 6 (26:27):
Exactly, Like there's some weird I'm like, Baldy, come on,
mag But that's also that's also like the beautiful charm
of it all.
Speaker 3 (26:35):
It's you're so right, like it's endearing. We're all just
hanging out in that well watching him break down. Derek
Brown throw dudes to the side, and I'm here. I
hope we never get any upgrade in production. I want
to see the weird pixelated images that he puts out.
Just never allow him to upgrade whatever NFL Network gives him.
(26:55):
As far as resources are concerned. Please go to the
higher ups and say never give him any upgraded equipment.
Speaker 6 (27:00):
Yeah, no, no, no, no. I think we're all kind of
in the same boat on that one. It's like the
you could have all the best video games to play
with right now. You could have the coolest headset, you
could have the sharpest monitor, the whole bit. But Baldy's
the guy who goes back and grabs his Atari so
you could go play Pitfall for the next six hours.
Speaker 3 (27:20):
Just give me Tetris. Tetris works. We don't need to
upgrade from that. It's the Tetris breakdowns from Baldi and
we love it. And we love Chris Rose for joining
us here on Wesson Walker. Seriously, I still think the
best out there at Highlight Narration doing the sports anchor
stuff with the highlights, all of it. It's fantastic catch
him on NFL Network. He does a great job. We
appreciate your time, Chris.
Speaker 6 (27:39):
Thanks again, thank you, and good luck to the Panthers
down the stretch. It's been an amazing runch.
Speaker 3 (27:44):
Yeah, man, we appreciate it. We'll put that interview on
our website WFNZ dot com. Just search WESN Walker anywhere
you get your pods and you can go listen to
Chris on the Panthers, on the NFL on Baldi Breakdowns.
There were people that were mad about his takes on
Bryce Young. I guess they were saying, we.
Speaker 1 (28:01):
Need to get him off of the air. How dare
you disrespect Bryce? He said?
Speaker 3 (28:05):
Twelve to twenty is I think that's pretty fair in
terms of how he's performed to this point. I think
the ceiling like against the Rams, that week's performance higher
than twelve, against the Falcons, when he goes for four
point fifty higher than twelve, we've also seen lower than
twenty performances. In my opinion, the wide range of outcomes
(28:26):
force for Bryce. It's still hard for people to get
a grip on what exactly he is as an NFL quarterback,
which is why we asked that very question at the
beginning of the broadcast today.
Speaker 4 (28:37):
The highest I could really see him getting, if we're
being honest, is probably like ninth, right, like I kind
of see him almost as like Dak Prescott, even though
I think Dak is having an amazing year. Are you
gonna put Dak top five in the league amongst quarterbacks.
Probably not. You're probably gonna lean some of the younger guys. So,
(29:02):
I mean, I don't think that's a terrible range, like
twelve to twenty.
Speaker 5 (29:05):
That's still a you.
Speaker 4 (29:06):
Gotta think that's a guy that can consistently make the playoffs.
But I think he's fair right now because the inconsistencies. Yeah,
one week, you think, man, this is a top twelve
quarterback in the league. The next week you think, damn,
this is a bottom tier starter in the league.
Speaker 5 (29:24):
So and it's just that's the thing.
Speaker 3 (29:26):
It's the whole jockeying agenda's stuff. If he has a
bad performance, then a lot of it does fall on Dave.
If that then that's the issue, right And I of
course the right answer is probably a mixture of both.
Speaker 1 (29:39):
So we move on.
Speaker 3 (29:40):
But there were plenty of people that were angry about
what he was saying about Bryce. Honestly, if you got
mad about what Chris Rose is telling you he thinks
Bryce is, you have to be steaming mad at other
people in their thoughts on Bryce just saying that he's
just flat out not in and there were still people
writing in about the twelve to twenty range being too
low of a range for him. We got one more
(30:02):
segment to go coming up next. It's the walk Off
on Sports Radio ninety two to seven w FNZ.
Speaker 1 (30:15):
You a challenge for me to walk off? Oh yeah,
that's a walk off challenge, my friend.
Speaker 6 (30:25):
It's a walk off.
Speaker 1 (30:26):
It's a walk off.
Speaker 3 (30:28):
Just what more segment to go on Western Walker before
we get into what's on tap. I did want to
come back to the highlight anchor conversation because I really
do think Chris Rose, if he's not the best, he's
very close. And I have a three person list for
you as to who I think is still the best
highlight anchor in the game. At least they come to mind.
I could be forgetting about a few. Chris Rose is
(30:50):
up there, bar none. You and I both agree on that.
I think l Duncan is phenomenal at her job at
being a highlight anchor. She's now going to Netflix because
Netflix think so highly of her. But I think at
that specifically, it's the fluidity, it's the jokes. It's the context.
I think she has total control over everything going on.
It's why they made her like the number one anchor
(31:10):
on that six PM Sports Center. Al duncan do we
put SVP still in that category or has he graduated
into something bigger than that?
Speaker 4 (31:19):
Because he's got the bad beats and when he's rolling
through the bad beats, there's no one that describes the game.
I have most of these games, no clue what happened
in these games. Yeah, but you get a feel for
the game because of him.
Speaker 1 (31:30):
Oh No.
Speaker 3 (31:31):
The thing is this is not a is SVP good?
Because SVP could be goat status. If you were to
say you think he's the best sports center anchor to
ever do it, I would say you have a lot
of evidence to point to. I'm just saying, has he
graduated from highlight anchor into something bigger? Because ESPN they
leaned all the way in to SVP at night SVP
(31:52):
Sports Center and it worked, and it worked spectacularly. So
NFL Live they knocked that out of the park. First
while we can't stand it, first take still does pull
a lot of ratings. But SVP, I just don't know
how many people don't like it like that's something I
feel like we can all agree on. So that's my question.
(32:12):
It feels like he's graduated from something to something more
than just highlight anchor. And if that's the case, then
I'm looking at L Duncan, I'm looking at Chris Rose.
I guess Jay Harris is still doing it. I do
like me some Jay Harris. I think there's probably a
gap between Rose and l and then Jay at the bottom.
Heil Everett's gone, Like you know, stan Verrett's doing it
(32:35):
for Fanduels. Stan Verrett's the man. He's with FanDuel now,
though I don't know, man, it's those are the two
names that come to mind.
Speaker 4 (32:41):
Yeah, I mean the other one that would come to
mind a guy who still does it to a certain
extent because he does it on Monday Night Football.
Speaker 5 (32:48):
You still do have Berman that does his little two
minute drill.
Speaker 1 (32:52):
And that's more for the nostalgia piece of it.
Speaker 4 (32:53):
And I guess do they still do their highlight show
on a ESPN plus? I think you can pay for that,
But like, I don't know, man, am I watching that
over NFL Game Day?
Speaker 5 (33:05):
Final?
Speaker 4 (33:06):
NFL Game Day? Just in general? Probably not. I'll probably
go on with.
Speaker 3 (33:10):
Chris Rose, and it's not even any shade to other
people who I think are good at their job.
Speaker 1 (33:14):
I think Matt Berry is good. I think some of
the names that I forget now are good. Who's my God?
Speaker 3 (33:23):
So many Wow, I don't know that well. That's the
thing too, is that there isn't so many man Who's
my guy? That I forget his name. I'll have to
come back to it. But the current Sports Center anchor.
Part of the problem though, is I do feel like
it's somewhat of a dying breed because the art itself
is dying too, because of what Chris was talking about,
and that everybody has their own highlights and you don't
(33:44):
need to go to Sports Center to catch up on
everything that you missed anymore, and so because of that,
there is less of a need for it. But when
you go back to it, who does it well? And
those are the two names that come to mind more
than any of them.
Speaker 5 (33:58):
I tried to look it up. There there are a lot.
Speaker 4 (34:00):
I mean, we've got Sam Accho who pops up when
I look on the ESBM master who I'm talking about it.
He's the guy that just breaks stuff down.
Speaker 3 (34:08):
So John and Cornelius says SVP loves himself. Some SVP
he's kind of a choch. I guess, going back to
Nick Willson, I do not get that at all. And
by the way, anybody that's anybody that's ever worked for him,
it is universal that he is one of the nicest
people that they have ever met.
Speaker 4 (34:26):
I think he's very similar to like Rich Eisen. Like I,
I don't get the sense of an arrogant type of
person like Rich Eison.
Speaker 5 (34:34):
To me, I think if I walked up and.
Speaker 4 (34:36):
Said and said, hey, Rich, my name's Anthony, he would
give me a handshake and pat me on the back
and say how's it going today. Yeah, Like, I feel
like he would be friendly towards me. I think, refuse
me to get away from me.
Speaker 3 (34:48):
SVP less so like SVP seems entirely welcoming and have
only had a good thing from people that worked at ESPN. Again,
it is a universal acceptance of just how good of
a dude that he is seven oh four five, seven
oh ninety six to ten Bagel Guy saying Chris Rose
is somewhere in between twelve and twenty. To me, I
don't think he can get past that window from twelve
(35:10):
to twenty. I see what you did. Kevin de Gandhi. Yeah,
Kevin dec Gandhi's good. I like Kevin Nigani.
Speaker 5 (35:16):
Yeah yeah, yeah, that's what it call.
Speaker 3 (35:18):
But it's why l Duncan and Gandhi were the number
one duos because they were the best at it, and
that's why they were working with one another. Anyways, we
can move on. I love inside radio slash sports media
convo too much. Let's go to what's on tap percent
of by Twin Peaks. Twin Peaks has locations in Concord
and Fort Mill. Twin Peaks is your local sports lodge.
Come in from made from scratch food and signature twenty
(35:39):
nine degree draft beers. All about the acc SEC challenge tonight.
I mean I'm gonna be glued to the television for
college basketball today. I mean, really, you have a bunch
of games happening at seven o'clock, Syracuse, South Carolina hosting
So Okay, Syrahcuse hosting, Tennessee, South Carolina hosting, Virginia Tech,
Wake Forest hosting Oklahoma, Pittsburgh hosting Texas, A and M.
(36:02):
That's your seven o'clock slate, so you can get the
quad box if you care about college basketball enough, you
can get the quad box there. More so than who
you think are going to win all of these games?
Who you think is going to win all of these games.
What's the most important of the seven o'clock slate in
your mind? Is it Syracuse, Tennessee, Wake, Oklahoma something else?
Speaker 1 (36:20):
Take all your fancy.
Speaker 4 (36:22):
H I mean, look, I will say Myron Metcalf sort
of sold me a little bit more on the Syracuse
Tennessee game. I know that they had a difficult slate there. Tennessee,
I think is still a really good basketball team, so
I'll be interested.
Speaker 5 (36:37):
I think the game.
Speaker 4 (36:38):
That you probably look at is probably that one.
Speaker 5 (36:43):
But I will be intrigued by Wake.
Speaker 4 (36:46):
Forest and Oklahoma have to because I think Wake is
right where they've been for the last few years.
Speaker 3 (36:53):
Man.
Speaker 4 (36:54):
I mean, they competed against a couple of teams that
are really good, like that game against Michigan.
Speaker 5 (36:59):
That is not something to scoff at.
Speaker 4 (37:02):
That is a legitimate They played one of the best
teams in the country hard for forty minutes. I think
that's going to certainly be a reason why you can
believe in them. So I'm intrigued by that one. And
then yeah, I mean, well, Duke and Florida in that
time slot, that's probably.
Speaker 3 (37:20):
Well, that's at seven thirty, to be fair. So yeah,
you're right, You're right, it's it's it is in the
time slot.
Speaker 4 (37:26):
I will say I have said I think Duke's gonna
I think Duke's can blow them out. Yeah, so I
don't even know how entertaining that game actually is going
to be. Smoke is not happy. Well to Smoke doesn't
like that. But I mean, Florida has no guard presence.
Speaker 3 (37:41):
So Florida lost their opener to Arizona. They all also
lost by four to TCU. They beat Providence by twelve,
that's the they beat Miami double digits. They only beat
Florida State by two. That was at home against Florida State. Yeah,
so it doesn't look to be the same team that
we saw win the championship last year. Even so, I'd
(38:03):
probably have a little more respect than to just predict
that Duke's gonna blow him out. But yet there is
something within me that thinks they're gonna win by double
digits at home against Florida. I do think that's gonna happen.
So I'm with you on that.
Speaker 6 (38:14):
All right.
Speaker 3 (38:15):
The rest of the slate Ole miss hosting Miami, Florida State, Georgia,
Notre Dame, Missouri, California, Utah, and then the one that
I'll say for last year. At nine point thirty on
ESPN after the Duke Florida game, it is North Carolina
heading to Lexington to take on the eighteenth ranked Kentucky Wildcats.
(38:36):
North Carolina ranked sixteenth at the moment. Let's get your
thoughts Floundy, which guy.
Speaker 4 (38:40):
Yeah, I think this is a big game for Carolina, man.
I think they want to be able to bounce back
from that Fort Myers tip Off Classic game against Michigan State.
This feels like a prime spot against a team that
has struggled in the two Power Conference games they played.
Kentucky's beat up on some bad teams so far, but
when they played in these games, you've seen not a
(39:01):
great defensive team, and I mean they really struggle to
score the ball at times against Michigan State. Can Carolina
defensively do some of the things that frustrated them against
Michigan State and put them in a similar position where
if you keep this game in the seventies, I think
you've got a chance to win this game. It's when
this game starts to get into the eighties the nineties,
(39:24):
that's where it starts to favor a Kentucky team that
wants to get up and down, team that hits a
lot of threes at times.
Speaker 5 (39:30):
That's what you want to avoid if you're Carolina.
Speaker 3 (39:32):
I think you're right, you don't want to trade threes
for twos because you're gonna be able to score on
this team because Kentucky is more offensively focused. But I
think the way you score on them is because you
have such a strong inside presence. If they knock down
their threes and then you're just taking all of the
two point shots that they give you, it's still an
effective shot. You still have to take it. Limit the threes,
and I think North Carolina will be okay because this
(39:53):
team can't play a perimeter game. This bask This Tario
basketball team is a bad perimeter shoot team, at least
from what we've seen so far this year. And fans
got fired up about that when we said that on
the podcast recently.
Speaker 4 (40:07):
But it's the truth, guys. You look at it, who
is really shooting it that great? From beyond the orc
Luca Bogavots, isn't Kyan Evans, isn't Jared Stevenson's not. Nobody
off the bench has really given you anything there. So
who is the guy that you're counting on from beyond
the arc. You don't want to get into that type
of game, man, Let your bigs go to work. So
(40:28):
you need that's the thing. Hold onto the ball and
limit the amount of three point shots.
Speaker 3 (40:33):
We'll be here with you tomorrow to talk all about
it from twelve to three pm. Coming up next it
is The Kyle Bailey Show from three to six alongside
Smoke Ludwig. This is Sports Radio ninety two seven WFNZ.
Speaker 6 (40:46):
Listen to the Wes and Walker Show We Tease from
noon to three only on Sports Radio ninety two point
seven FM UFNZ, the
