Speaker 1 (00:00):
You were listening to the Wes and Walker show. I
remember one recruiting victory that you did get.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
It's Wes.

Speaker 1 (00:05):
I know you remember my quarterback Paul tront and he
and I came up there to East Carolina for a.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Visit in Walker Van's high school.

Speaker 3 (00:14):
Offensive lineman Big Kid eventually went to Florida. Do you
remember Wes Bryant out of Vance High there coach.

Speaker 1 (00:21):
Only on Sports Radio ninety two point seven FM WFNZ.

Speaker 4 (00:25):
If Florida had come.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
Along and that young man told me he wanted.

Speaker 4 (00:28):
To come to East Carolina, I probably wouldn't take him
because I think he was not very bright.

Speaker 1 (00:43):
Westn.

Speaker 3 (00:44):
Walker Sports Radio ninety two to seven WFNZ. Nice job
by Sherlock Flound finding the audio of the top ten
that we did last year ahead of the Panthers Eagles game.
So I remember Wes not putting Lane Johnson in his
top ten, despite Layton Johnson being a member of the
ninety nine Madden Club, one of the seven guys on

(01:06):
the list, if I'm not mistaken, and so the reason
I remember this top ten so well is because I
got ridiculed, I got chastised, I got a beat down,
A whooping for not having a single panther on the
top ten list. My top ten list that week was
Zach Bond, Cooper Dejen, Quinn, Jon Mitchell, Jalen Hurtz, Landon Dickerson,

(01:27):
Lane Johnson, Jordan Mailatta, aj Brown, Jalen Carter, Saquon Barkley
was It was the only list all year long where
I did not have a panther. I feel validated by
a Super Bowl run, by the way, with one of
the most conversation we had talented rosters we've ever seen
in the NFL. Anyways, that was my top ten and

(01:48):
we found out that you did not have Lane Johnson
in your top ten, but we did not hear any
reason for it. I read my stats about Lane and
then we just moved off.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
Yeah, because I remember at the time his rating was
not that great at that point in the season. Because
my top ten, I had Bryce Young because he was
killing it over those last four games. I had Tube Hubbard,
he was six and rushing yards. And I had quing
Ian Mitchell, I mean, Kenyon Mitchell. He was playing really
good football at that time, Devontae Carter, Davonte Smith, Jalen Carter,

(02:19):
Zach Bond, Jalen Hurts, aj Brown Maylia was my two,
and then Stay Queazy was my number one. No, he
I promise you his grave was good at that point.
I promise you remember it being that great at that
point in the season. No, I could be incorrect, No
it was. I was.

Speaker 3 (02:33):
I remember being shocked because I think I joked about
it later on. I was like, here, I am trying
to love on the tackles a little bit and I
got a fellow tackle. Yeah, some tackle on tackle crime
around here.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
But yeah, I know, you know, Lane Johnson is a
boller man. I just was shocked, and then I wanted it.
I had to defend myself because people were coming at
me for not having a panther on there.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
Yeah, and so I needed to defend myself. I was like,
I got to make room for Lane. Somebody's got a
respect offensive linemen around here. My own co host, my
tag team partner, isn't defending offensive line.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
I had a whole line. Number two.

Speaker 1 (03:07):
I think you secretly hate right tackles and you want Admitte.

Speaker 2 (03:09):
No, not at all. I made lot of number one
because you never may number two.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
Well, he's left tackle, so yeah, I know, you know
you love left tackles.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
You played left tackle.

Speaker 3 (03:19):
I think you won't allow yourself to admit that right
tackles are inferior to you.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
Seals that Gad.

Speaker 3 (03:26):
Pinnay seel is, but even Taylor Moten like. You don't
respect Taylor. You don't respect Lane.

Speaker 2 (03:31):
Now you're going far.

Speaker 1 (03:33):
I don't disrespect Taylor Mote. I just say the run
grades leave a lot to be desired, which is facts.

Speaker 3 (03:40):
You don't like right tackles, man, and I don't understand it,
But I'm here to get rid of that. I'm gonna
I'm gonna try to turn you into a right tackle.
Respector the rest of twenty twenty five. As we get
into this NFL season, it's Wes and Walker, the right
tackle hater. Sports Rady ninety two to seven wfn Z.
Let's go to a Bill Barnwell article. He's been helping
us out a lot with the content on ESPN dot com,

(04:03):
and he's been going through every single one of these
teams figuring out how many guys that would want a
first round pick in return via trade, which is the
most valuable of things to trade for, right, So, how
many of those types of guys do the Panthers have
on their roster. The Rams have a ton of them
if you look at it. Puka Nakua, he says, would
call for two first. Jared First, he says, would call

(04:25):
for two first with the way that he played. Braden
Fisk would call for one. You know, we're not in
the Rams era. Same thing with the Eagles. I think
the Panthers have one guy that he thinks would call
for a first round pick in return, and that's Temac
And that's because they just used a first round pick
on them. And of course you could say that about
all Themekiaobuka, same thing. You could say that about all

(04:45):
the rookies. That's it. That's it. Derek Brown, he says,
would not call for a first round pick in a
potential trade, and j C. Horn would not call for
a first round pick in a potential trade. Do you
feel like we have guys on this that are considered
stars to that degree because I think we try to
make Derek Brown one. I'm a huge fan of Derek Brown.

(05:07):
But out of side, out of mind, that's what happened
last year.

Speaker 5 (05:10):
J C.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
Horn.

Speaker 3 (05:12):
There are stats to suggest one side of the argument.
There are stats to suggest other sides of the argument,
and it needs to be a pretty bulletproof plan or
bulletproof argument to have some of these guys in the
ninety nine club and to ask for a first round
pick or more in return. So how far are those
guys off of receiving first and what do you think
about Bryce and.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
All of them?

Speaker 1 (05:32):
Yeah, I don't think that the Panthers have a player
currently that will be worthy of a first round pick.
I mean, I guess tedoroal McMillan because you would look
at it as you know, what is his ceiling the
upside because he's freshly drafted. We haven't seen what he
can do in the NFL yet, so obviously you could
get that type of leverage.

Speaker 2 (05:49):
But other than that, now Bryce Young isn't there yet.

Speaker 1 (05:51):
I think after this season we may be able to
talk about that with the Bryce Young, but we still
have to see it before we can believe it. But
other than that, Derek not quite the balanced interior defensive
linement that you would give up that type of capital for,
and then JC Horn the injuries as well, and then
when you look at some of the analytics, depending on
what you look at, I don't know that you would

(06:13):
surrender that for him either. So no, not one on
the Panthers roster right now defensively, And as I said
with Bryce Young, you could perhaps see it after a
really strong season this year if he indeed does that,
and then tart Roa McMillan kind of by default.

Speaker 3 (06:29):
Yeah, I think t mac all the first round picks
are going to call for that as well. And I
think I'll tell you this, if I'm the Panthers and
I don't know what situation we'd be in to really
start taking calls on our defensive tackle, probably not a
good one. If you're taking calls on Derek Brown looking
to trade him, you're probably not in a very good spot.

(06:51):
I wouldn't trade him for anything less than a first
I wouldn't unless you're talking about like three seconds.

Speaker 1 (06:56):
But you get the idea.

Speaker 3 (06:57):
For the gist of the argument, I'm not trading him
for anything less than a first JC. I can understand
a little of why you wouldn't take why it wouldn't
warrant that for him because of the massive contract that
he signed, and that one's debatable. I think Derek Brown's
on an awesome deal. Like I have no problem with
the amount of money that he's making right now, JC,
I don't I'm making that contract. I don't have any

(07:19):
issues as a Panthers fan, but I can understand why
other teams might have an issue with that. I do
think those are the closest players. I think t Mac
is also there by default. Maybe he lives up to
it by having a great rookie season. More on the
Bryce discussion, you're not looking to trade. If Bryce is
worth a first or more, then that means you're not
trading them. That's why qbs don't. They're not on the

(07:42):
move like that. Even if they demand out, they're not
going to be on the move like that. Do you
feel like Bryce gets there by the end of the
season where oh, okay, yeah, we're not trading him. Essentially,
if we did, then we'd have to ask for a
first and then some Do you think he gets there?

Speaker 1 (07:57):
Yes, I have no doubts about that, and I feel
strongly about him over the last eight games. To me,
as you guys love to hear me talk about on here,
the football character he displayed, I think that's going to
be able to carry him through anything at this point.
I think once he overcame what he did last year.
I'm not sure what else could happen to him to
break this young man at this point. And I think

(08:18):
that he's got requisite weapons and he proved to you
last year that he can make sure that from you know,
with guys out there, unproven veterans, no matter what he
showed you last year, going up against the best of
the best, both of the Super Bowl participants, he came
out there and showed well. So I think for Bryce Shank,
I have no doubts he's going to come out this
year and have a strong season.

Speaker 3 (08:39):
Paco from Charlotte just on why are we talking about
trading our best players? You know, don't panic, like Paco
from Charlotte. We're just having a good time.

Speaker 5 (08:47):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (08:47):
Bill barn Just in case you're just joining us, Bill
Barnwell wrote an article about what every player is worth
on each team in the NFL. How many first round
picks would they warrant in a potential trade, because that
does scream the most value. That screams these are the
guys that are the best players in the NFL. Essentially,
it's just another way to look at it. If we
look at other trade targets, possibly guys that you know,

(09:10):
might be receiving calls, you know, from other teams.

Speaker 1 (09:13):
I can't help but go to Adam Thielen.

Speaker 3 (09:15):
I don't Yeah, not talking about first and second value anymore,
but just talking about guys that would most likely be traded.
If I start with Adam Thielen, how much of a
chance is there to see him traded at the deadline? Wes,
I think for me that scenario would be okay. THELAN
wants to go chase a ring. We have three young

(09:38):
wide receivers that are playing well and progressing well enough
to where we're cool with Theland wanted to go chase
a ring Hunter Renfro, even if this is real from
Hunter Renfro, because we've seen a one thousand yard year
from him before, so maybe he can just step in
as a slot guy. You know, here I am doing
the white receiver for white receiver thing, but you get
the idea. Hunter Renfro has been the star of camp.
Maybe we like Jimmy Horne enough to where to give

(10:00):
him snaps. I want to see if he can stretch
the field. And then some do you feel like THELAN
is I guess put a percentage on it. What percentage
do you feel like would be on a possible feeling
trade scenario this year, trade.

Speaker 2 (10:14):
Like at the deadline or trade during camp, No.

Speaker 1 (10:17):
At the deadline. It's what I say. I put it
at maybe twenty twenty five percent because I think the
Panthers will be decent enough that they're gonna want to
see things through. I think their offense will be good
enough that they're gonna want to see things through. And
I think he's going to be an integral part of that.
At least He's proven as much over the last two seasons.
So I don't really see that changing a whole lot. Yeah,

(10:38):
I think it would just be because he wants to
go chase a ring, right. It would have to be
a handshake type of, Hey, we think we could get
some trade compensation at him. Do you want to go
to one of these teams that's struggling and they want
to either make the playoffs and you would help them,
or they want to make a deeper run in the
postseason because Kansas City they were in this situation last year.

(11:00):
Kansas City gets to the Super Bowl and we thought
Fling might be going to the Chiefs. So who would
that team be next year?

Speaker 3 (11:08):
They give you a call, maybe that would be the case,
but I fully expect Fling to retire.

Speaker 1 (11:12):
Plus, I don't think that he's of the caliber of
a guy that's going to really be a difference maker
on a Super Bowl team. Like when we've seen some
of these moves happen, it's been for guys like a
DeAndre Hopkins or gods that they feel like might still
have some magic left in the tank where they can
be a difference maker for them at that position. I
don't really I think Adam Thln's in a really good

(11:32):
fit here because by default he had to come in
and be the number one guy, and he does still
have it. But you know, I don't know that I
see a lot of championship caliber teams clamoring to get
Adam Thling because they feel like he would be the
missing piece, if that makes any sense.

Speaker 3 (11:47):
Well, and maybe it happens even more so this year,
because there there were a lot of talks. We had
that conversation quite a bit surrounding him. I wonder, I
just wonder what his production's going to look like. Where
do you think THELAN finishes this season? Given this excellent
wide receiver room and all of the excellent praise were
seeing from Camp.

Speaker 1 (12:07):
Well, like I said that the guy that you saw
the most consistency out of was Jalen Coker.

Speaker 2 (12:11):
Excel still has a lot to prove. TETROA.

Speaker 1 (12:14):
McMillan still has a lot to prove in NFL, he
hasn't proven anything. So I would expect, at least from
the early on set that Adam Thielen will continue to
be Bryce's safety net in that receiver room until proven otherwise.
I think he's gonna go a fair shared of thling,
a fair shared to Cocher, and then I think for
sure they're going to try to get Tetroha involved. We'll
see what happens with the Excel, but I think till

(12:36):
some of these guys prove that they are worthy of
getting those targets, Adam Thielen is certainly going to be
a guy that Bryce Young is gonna be looking to
dial up on passing plays.

Speaker 3 (12:45):
Yeah, do you think there's a chance Adam Thielen gets
traded at the deadline this year?

Speaker 1 (12:49):
Let us know.

Speaker 3 (12:49):
In the Fandal text line seven oh four five seven
oh ninety six ten, I saw Dave knal As talking
about the amount of targets that Tim Mack is going
to get this season. He said, they're going to throw
the ball a lot his way. I think you equate
that to what they said about Deontay Johnson. Let's hope
this is where the comparisons end with Deontay. But that
was all the talking, That was all the conversation at

(13:11):
the beginning of last year. It was how much Deontay
Johnson was going to be targeted in the offense.

Speaker 2 (13:17):
He was targeted a lot.

Speaker 3 (13:19):
Now, there were a couple of games that were more
productive than others, but he was targeted a lot. I
don't know if he gets that kind of target share
now with Jalen Coker being in the mix with trying
to you know, get excel, going trying to serve maybe
have this year serve as that launching pad. But I
believe Dave Canalis when he says we're going to target
Temac a lot, and so at that point with these

(13:41):
younger guys that they just do they matter more towards
your future. I really, I really do find it hard
to project what theland is going to do this season
as the default best receiver on the roster still, but
a guy that is going into what people largely believe
to be his last year in the league.

Speaker 1 (13:59):
Yeah, and that could play into it as well, to
where the young players play so well that they end
up phasing him out over time. But I also think too,
with it being his last year, they don't want him
to go out that way. And I think as long
as he's proving that he's still the guy that they're
gonna look him up, because again, he's that vet, he's
done it all, seen at all. I'm sure he knows

(14:20):
this offense like the back of his hand, and that's
going to, you know, ensure that he gets open on
a fairly regular basis. And Bryce Young is not a
quarterback to me that's going to turn down a guy
who's open. If Deland's open, he's going to hit him. Yeah,
I want Yeah, that's a good point. Of course, you're
gonna want to hit the open guy. And plus how

(14:41):
much of this is going to be father time too,
Like at some point it happens to everybody. I don't
expect Adam Thln to be an awesome player at forty
and maybe he's just awesome until he decides to hang
it up.

Speaker 2 (14:49):
Yeah, that could very well happen. I said it a
million times.

Speaker 3 (14:53):
I thought what I saw from theland last year was
actually better than his one thousand yard season the year
prior separation. Was there, winning contested targets downfield. He was
the real deal when healthy. It's just the yards were
hurt because he was hurt. But yeah, man, i'd a
theling really showing you something. Panther Bo is saying one
point one percent chance of trading Adam Thelen, so he

(15:16):
doesn't think it's gonna happen. I do wonder if there
are any other trade candidates that I'm not thinking of
at the deadline, any other guys that you feel like
could be surprised deadline trade candidates with how the season
might go. This upcoming gear you can let us know.

Speaker 2 (16:23):
Real quickly.

Speaker 1 (16:23):
I know we were celebrating National Chicken Wing Day yesterday.
Are you going to celebrate National Cheesecake Day today or not?

Speaker 2 (16:30):
Probably not?

Speaker 1 (16:31):
This is probably one I won't participate. See wings and
cheesecakes and back to back days. They need to help
the boy out because I can't take that because I'm
going to celebrate.

Speaker 2 (16:42):
And here's here's what I love.

Speaker 3 (16:43):
I don't know if everybody else's significant other is like this,
but in my opinion, I think a lot of significant
others or girlfriends or wives they love a theme day
right that it makes sense to me and say, oh
it's taco Tuesday. Hell yeah, let's get you put a
theme on it. I'm in. That's how I feel like

(17:04):
a lot of girlfriends. And by the way, I'm like
this too.

Speaker 1 (17:07):
Yeah, okay, chicken wing every now and again too.

Speaker 2 (17:10):
So where will you go get cheesecake? Cheesecake today?

Speaker 1 (17:13):
I don't even know.

Speaker 2 (17:14):
I just got to cheesecake factory is doing FIfF today?
Oh well, there you go. Yeah, I do know that
your question. There you go.

Speaker 3 (17:25):
Okay, alrighty, there's one not too far away from me.

Speaker 1 (17:30):
I've never I shouldn't say never. I think I haven't
been to a cheesecake factory since I was in high school, though.

Speaker 2 (17:36):
I'm only eating in one like twice. But on a
date there kind of it was. It was a fancy place.
He took the lady.

Speaker 3 (17:45):
I'll tell well, I didn't, so I went with It
was kind of like a double date thing in high school.
It was before a Bobcats game. Yeah, I took this.

Speaker 2 (17:53):
Geez, that boy had that date.

Speaker 3 (17:55):
Go Gerald Wallace game winning tap in game. So we
got to go to ann. I caught a Bobcat's T
shirt thrown into the stands. Look at that now. I
did the gentlemanly thing and I said, here you go.
I felt like a boss. Okay, it's my girlfriend, high
school girlfriend at the time. I get a T shirt
thrown and I catch it. Nice snag if I do

(18:18):
say so myself, and I had it. Here you go, babe,
here's a Bobcat's T shirt and it was too big
for her, so she said, no, it's okay, you have it.

Speaker 2 (18:26):
I was like, oh my gosh, I still win.

Speaker 3 (18:30):
I still have it to this day, complain Jane Gray
Charlotte Bobcat's shirt. But we went to cheesecake factory, and
I do want to know if everybody else has that
same experience that you and I have. I feel like
everybody in the world has been a cheesecake factory, except
not any more than three times in their lives.

Speaker 1 (18:48):
Yeah, that's that'll be something interesting because I have not
gone there that often. The last time was when I
went to the one in South Park. Same I went there,
but yeah, you get half price cheesecake slices today. So
it says for Cheesecake Rewards members who dine in So okay,
wait a second, Yeah, oh they have a peach perfect cheesecakes,

(19:15):
Like that sounds really good. You you tricky tricky a
ballad for up to six slices per table.

Speaker 2 (19:21):
I want to know how many.

Speaker 3 (19:23):
There's no way anybody has gone to the cheesecake factory
more than five times in their lives.

Speaker 2 (19:28):
There, there's just no way.

Speaker 3 (19:29):
I refuse to believe you, honestly, So I want to
know if you are one of those people that I
would consider a unicorn.

Speaker 2 (19:35):
Have you been flounder? No, so ye haven't been one time. No,
I will reveal to you guys, I am not a
cheesecake person. So, yeah, you got the weird food takes
every once in a while. I know that in New
York seascakes.

Speaker 5 (19:47):
Yeah, oh it's it's it's frowned upon. It's frowned upon heavily.
My dad hates my guts for it. So it sounds
like you got some issues with He just doesn't understand it.
He says, how in the world do you not like cheesecake?
You are Italian? You should be all over cheesecake. I'm like,
I just don't like it.

Speaker 1 (20:06):
There has to be Well, this is the same guy
that doesn't like burgers, So there's burgers.

Speaker 3 (20:11):
There has to be more. What are some other Italian
food items that you don't like that your dad hates
you for.

Speaker 5 (20:16):
There's no, there's not many outside of that. I am
big into any type of pasta, Okay, I don't Yeah,
I don't think there's anything else that. My dad is
just like, how in the world do you not like
that burgers?

Speaker 2 (20:31):
He doesn't get that one.

Speaker 3 (20:32):
No, nobody does, Yeah, nobody gets it unless you're a
vegetarian vegan, which you're not.

Speaker 1 (20:37):
I just saw it. Even then, you can still have
a burger and have black bean burger man. Yeah, maybe
you could do something like that, not that you would.
All Right, we got people finally, you know, rolling in
with some of the cheesecake factory text messages. Naylor says, uh,
it takes too long to get a table, no reservations,
so you can't go to cheesecake factory.

Speaker 3 (20:58):
I guess that's his point on it. We're scrolling, we're
scrolling some more.

Speaker 2 (21:02):
Juice.

Speaker 3 (21:03):
Tray says, Unfortunately, unfortunately, my wife loves cheesecake Factory, been
at least ten plus times. All right, you're one of
the few out there.

Speaker 2 (21:12):
No unfortunate to it.

Speaker 1 (21:13):
I just don't feel like I see, well, will.

Speaker 2 (21:15):
It will set you back a pretty penny?

Speaker 3 (21:18):
Kakillac says, are we talking din in because my wife
and daughter are Cereal cheesecake offenders? To go? Okay, well
so to go? Now does that count? I'm talking about
dining in the cheesecake factory. Okay, yeah, then we'll do that.
I mean Joe Montana's arm says. Cheesecake Factory is great.
After dinner you go there desert for dessert. Are you
a two stop guy if you're doing dinner, because I'm

(21:40):
not trying to go eat somewhere for dinner and then
go somewhere else for dessert. I like the idea of
being a two stop guy. I like the idea of
prolonging the date. Okay, Like, I know it.

Speaker 1 (21:50):
Costs money if you just met, no doubt, I get it.

Speaker 2 (21:54):
But you don't want the night to end.

Speaker 3 (21:56):
Maybe you just want to slow play it with some
kind of move for the for the later parts of
the night. Yes, do you want to go to cheesecake
Factory and grab some don't? I don't know how that
plays for the girl listening. You want to go to
cheesecake Factory, I don't know if that hits or not.
But Crave Dessert Bar Uptown Charlotte, maybe you say, yeah,
do you want to go to Crave Uptown and you know,

(22:17):
have a night cap and a little dessert. Then I'm
a fan of a two stop night. But no, I'm
not usually going.

Speaker 1 (22:25):
To too think early on, you know when you just meet,
certainly that's the case, and then you know later on,
after you've been through the thick of it, like, yeah,
you know, I guess some dessert in here.

Speaker 2 (22:36):
Don't get like that.

Speaker 3 (22:37):
Don't get complacent, folks, Okay, act like you've only been
dating for a few weeks.

Speaker 5 (22:43):
Keep keep it fresh, like usually I can't even get
the girl to complete the first part of the date,
to even get to the second part.

Speaker 3 (22:50):
So at that point, what's the advice for flounder here?
If he does go on a date, and he goes
on a dinner date at that point, if that's success full,
do you call it a day, wash your hands and
say we made it to a second or do you
try to push all your chips in and say, do
you want to stop buy cheesecake factory after this and celebrate.

Speaker 1 (23:12):
With a little night Because as she could say, is no,
so you might as well go ahead, and that gives
you an indicator for how the date is going. If
she says yes and wants to go now, she might
be trying to get you, you know, for some extra food,
because you know that is a thing these days where
girls just like to go out with guys to get
free meals.

Speaker 2 (23:27):
But I'm here to be taking advantage of you.

Speaker 1 (23:30):
Say that you gotta get that together they say it
a lot.

Speaker 5 (23:36):
It depends I'm not going to lie to you it
it depends on how hot you are.

Speaker 1 (23:43):
Like at a certain rate, I'm told you about that pedestal. Boy,
he got like, I'm talking to we all have and
we all been there. What's funny is okay, we're all
our real selves. I don't want to act like we're
not genuine, because we are. But Wes went to a
very real place when he forgot he was doing a
show for two seconds. I felt like when I talked
to Brice stuff like that, he for god been Now

(24:06):
we've all made that mistake.

Speaker 3 (24:07):
He looked down at the ground forgot there was a
mic in front of him, and said, you got to
get off that pedestal. That was That was a reaction
more than it was a I know, I know Nascar, Brad.
He's riding in quite a bit. He's saying he's never
been the cheesecake factory, flounder. We need to go out
just to try to look for girls. One of these
nights you do have to get out of the house.
I thought it the cheesecake factory.

Speaker 5 (24:28):
I was like, I don't know if that's necessarily where
you're finding the ladies.

Speaker 3 (24:31):
At Cadillac, writes in Date Night, got to hit him
with the mobile dessert. Grab some ice cream from a
little shop and take a stroll Cacillac nose.

Speaker 2 (24:39):
Oh that's clutch. That's pretty good. No, it's pretty good.
I must say.

Speaker 3 (24:42):
I've done that in University area. You stop by, you
get a milkshake at the boardwalk billies take a little stroll.

Speaker 1 (24:49):
Around the pond that way in a minute. It's been
a long because I know they put a lot of
stuff over it. I know it's a lot different those
same places I stayd at because Lord knows, I should
have a jersey up in the wand.

Speaker 2 (25:02):
Mine needs to be hanged higher.

Speaker 4 (25:04):
Jersey.

Speaker 1 (25:05):
We used to get self conscious. I took so many
women to the wine Vaught. I used to feel bad.
I was like, damn, I said, I know this woman
working hands like, here comes this guy with another girl.

Speaker 3 (25:15):
I would love to that same girl that worked there forever,
the shorter blonde hair. Yes, if you have your jersey
hung there, I need mine.

Speaker 2 (25:23):
Yeah, wessel Walker, we need to have.

Speaker 1 (25:25):
You know, when you go on some of those restaurants
and they have the famous people that have come, they
need to have wessel walker up in there because.

Speaker 2 (25:31):
The Wine Vault was my go to. Boy.

Speaker 1 (25:33):
You couldn't beat the ambiyond. You could not get you
a twenty thirty dollars bottle, you good. The ambiance was
next level. And I'm talking ambionce outside and inside. Now,
if a guy a little packed, then that was frustrating.
But you know, it was never packed. It was never packed.
It was never and even if it was, you could
go outside sit out there as well. But I mean

(25:56):
the wineball and then the little the little one they
had back then to cut the little area they had
that was like the little counts in the chair that
was back That's.

Speaker 3 (26:04):
Where I would always go. That's the spot that I
would go to workshop. My Wine Vault protocol was walk in,
say hello to my girl, who can't be working there anymore.
There's just no way. If you are then the biggest
of hat cap tips. Your daddy's the owner or your
dad's the owner, you're the owner. Yeah, So I would
immediately go to the left and usually I would get

(26:25):
a different beer, but I'm staying on that banana bread
beer that they had. Okay, Constantly me and my buddy
shout out to fits the crazy College friends. Yeah, weekdays
whatever or date nights. Wine Vault was. I was thinking
about that too. Wait, we need to jump in there.
We need some kind of social media video. We do
we have some kind of jersey unveiling ceremony.

Speaker 1 (26:48):
If we walked into the girl, if she's still working
at she probably recognized probably, oh it's you and you
you guys are friend Wait, how do you guys know
you got a friends?

Speaker 3 (26:57):
Oh my god, we didn't even meet here, you know,
it was just that brought us together, all right, Cheesecake
Factory wine Vault. Yes, okay, all right, maybe we can
pick up the dating advice segment in the last segment
of the show today. But we got some sound. We
gotta get to time now for some sound with flound
hit a flound.

Speaker 1 (27:17):
I like that.

Speaker 2 (27:21):
In the West and the West.

Speaker 4 (27:24):
The sound.

Speaker 5 (27:27):
All right, And you know what I just I just
threw this in here because I realized that we had
the audio of it. You want to hear Tim Alvin
talking about UH practice yesterday and how A players compared
to dogs.

Speaker 1 (27:40):
Let's hear it.

Speaker 6 (27:40):
I'll tell you the what excites means these guys just smile, man,
I mean, these guys are they want to be good.

Speaker 2 (27:46):
We got a long way to go.

Speaker 6 (27:47):
But they are eager and I mean they're they're just
like you know a dog, you know, hot hot, but
they are eager to learn and can't wait throw the frisbee.

Speaker 1 (27:57):
They want to go, they want optimism. It's the difference.

Speaker 3 (28:02):
There's a little bit of a I like Tim Albin's
approach on got that dog in them, a little different
than what we're used to seeing with the pit bulls
in the X race.

Speaker 5 (28:10):
All right, So we were talking about this a little
bit earlier on the Young Gun Show. Do you believe
that out of the three group of five schools in
the area we won't include Coastal, do you think that
it is Charlotte that has the brightest future out of
those schools.

Speaker 1 (28:28):
Oh, as much as I would love for it to be,
I would still go AT because of the pedigree that
they have. I mean, APP is never really just trash.
They always have at least a solid team that they
feel but this is, you know, the most pedigreed of
the group of five teams around here.

Speaker 2 (28:44):
So I will go with APP.

Speaker 3 (28:46):
I would go with APP too, but it's solely based
on reputation that matters. APP State They've been very good
at football for a gred make good coaching, highers, et cetera.
I will say, if if Appstate hired Tim Albin, do
you think will you'd feel better about him?

Speaker 5 (29:04):
Yes, even better than you do. But you don't feel
bad about him right now. I think you feel really
good about the Higher. But if it was app State,
they would be raving like this was an amazing I.

Speaker 3 (29:16):
Think in terms of who made the best hire this offseason,
I can't help but look at the resume Tim Albin
brings to the table and say Charlotte made the best
higher while app State they've earned it. Okay, I'm not
here to steal that from them. I'm hoping that we
steal it from August twenty ninth out there at Bank
of America Stadium. But I am not here to steal
the reputation. You can't. They've accomplished too much. But if

(29:38):
app State hired Tim Albin and Charlotte hired Dal Loggins,
I feel like we might have more questions about the
Niners and we'd be ready to go with the Mountaineers
because now you have the rep and you have the
coach that wins ten games the last few seasons. Yeah,
that's what's interesting to me, and that's what gets me excited.
It's okay, you flip the tables, you turn the if

(30:00):
you will, Michael Scott style the turntable, how the turn
tables anyways, if you do that, then yeah, I think
that That's what's interesting to me, is that Charlotte might
be more celebrated.

Speaker 2 (30:12):
All right, well you mentioned it earlier.

Speaker 5 (30:13):
Taylor Moten was asked about his contract earlier today and
got a little bit emotional.

Speaker 7 (30:18):
When it comes from a financial standpoint, I tried, you know,
not to think about it too much. I try to
just take it one day at a time. Right, the
whole financial side of the contract side of it, I'll
leave that up to my agent, Joel believe he's a
tremendous agent. Love working with him. And you know, like
I know you said right towards you control and all that,
but that's it, right. I come out here, I do

(30:40):
my job to the best of my ability and do
what I can to help this team win. And you know,
other than that, we just let the chips fall away
they may and just do I just want to have
a van can to prove my worth of the team.

Speaker 5 (30:51):
So Okay, Well, apparently that wasn't the emotional clip. Shop
just sent me a text and said the other clip
is more emotional.

Speaker 2 (30:57):
I did not see the reads. Go I don't know.

Speaker 5 (31:01):
I don't know which other clip he's talking about. I'm
gonna have to look it up. Maybe we could play
it going into the walk off. But in terms of
the emotion that he did show, what did you think
about that? And should Panther fans be you know, more
more energetic or more apt to give him a long

(31:21):
term contract going into next offseason.

Speaker 1 (31:25):
I don't think that they should be more app to
do so because he gets emotional. It's all gonna come
down NFL as a bottom line business.

Speaker 2 (31:31):
No matter what.

Speaker 1 (31:32):
You can cry, you can sob, you can laugh, you
can do whatever up there, but if you are not
a great player, then they're not going to be interested
in re signing you.

Speaker 2 (31:39):
So to me, it all comes down to what he
does on the field. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (31:45):
So I respect the hell out of Taylor Moten. People
know that because of where I put him in the
top ten. Every single week he's usually somewhere in that
seven to nine range. Just one of the better pass
blocking tackles in all of football, especially at the right side.
Also an iron man for so long for his career,
He's got a thirty million dollar cap hit this season,

(32:05):
and they decided not to divvy that up turn in
terms of giving him an extension. I think if I
had to bet, I would bet on this being Taylor
Motons last year with Carolina. I think the way to
attack this, at least I think the way that they're
going to attack this is by saying we're gonna let
Taylor walk, We're going to see how Ikey does at

(32:27):
left tackle, and then we're going to draft a tackle
in the first round of next year's NFL draft. That's
the way that I would guess that they played this out.

Speaker 2 (32:36):
Now.

Speaker 3 (32:37):
There is an argument to bring Taylor Moton back. Of course,
if they play well this year and they're going all
in on twenty twenty six, like I think they are,
then maybe you don't want to sacrifice a Taylor Molten
who has just been a great protector of whatever quarterback
is back there, and you just decide, Okay, it's still
a lot of money that we're investing in our offensive line,

(32:57):
but it's okay to invest a lot of money offensive line,
like I could see him coming back. But yeah, well
we'll see how negotiations play out. But if I had
to bet, I think I would bet my money on
this being his last year.

Speaker 1 (33:10):
You got something flown.

Speaker 5 (33:11):
Yes, you're board ops an idiot, because it is literally
labeled in the system as emotional about this potentially being
his last season in Carolina, and I somehow overlooked that.

Speaker 2 (33:21):
Best emotional one, the one that says it's emotional.

Speaker 5 (33:24):
Maybe maybe, just maybe, also the question that I prayed
just pour all around.

Speaker 2 (33:29):
Poor effort really honestly need to be better.

Speaker 5 (33:32):
Let's move on to Frank Saravelli, who was on his
podcast This Is I Believe the Open Ice podcast as
part of bleacher Report, and he was talking about the
Carolina Hurricanes and says they are one of the best
teams set up to compete for not only the next
four or five years, but the next ten years.

Speaker 8 (33:52):
The Carolina Hurricanes have their core locked up for the future.
Seth Jarvis, Nikolai Eilers, sebastianajo On Spetchnikov, Logan Stankoven, and
now Jackson Blake all signed for at least the next
four seasons. On the back end, KeAndre Miller, Jacob Slaven
signed for the next eight seasons. You've got your support

(34:14):
pieces Taylor Hall, Jordan Stall, some older vets that certainly
bring presence and help to your lineup. Those guys are
locked up for the next couple seasons.

Speaker 2 (34:25):
The core of.

Speaker 8 (34:26):
The Carolina Hurricanes is intact, and yet they still have
ten million dollars in cap space, and they're gonna have
nearly twenty million dollars in cap space next summer. They've
still got first round picks going back to the Miko
Ranton and trade, although very few other picks in twenty
twenty six, which is interesting when looking at their draft board.

(34:46):
But it's totally fine because the Carolina Hurricanes have tons
of prospects.

Speaker 2 (34:50):
They have one of the deepest and.

Speaker 8 (34:52):
Largest prospect pools in the league. I'd say if we're
looking longview, like next three, four, five seasons, but in
terms of having a combination of able to win now
and the future set up perfectly and all sorts of
flexibility when it comes to cap and prospects, East to

(35:14):
be Carolina, West would be Utah. Those two teams are
in absolutely perfect position to contend for the next ten years,
all right.

Speaker 2 (35:24):
So he is an NHL expert.

Speaker 5 (35:26):
He's as good as it gets when it comes to
his podcast. So how confident does this make you feel?
West When you hear Frank Sarahvelli talking about.

Speaker 1 (35:34):
Super confident man, I love to hear that we know
that they want to catch those Florida Panthers, and with
them setting themselves up for the future, you hear about
the great prospects that they already have, then the players
that they've signed and gone out and gotten difference makers
like Eelers. Now, I'm not going to act like you know,
some hockey officionado, but I know that doubt was a

(35:55):
huge signing for them. With the talent that they already
have here, they've got have money. I mean, it feels
like they're doing a masterful job of keeping this team
a contender for the foreseeable future. And I just feel
like in sports that you keep knocking at the door,
eventually you're gonna knock it down. And the Canes, I think,
will eventually get that elusive Stanley Cup. So this makes

(36:15):
me very excited. I'm gonna get another jersey this year.

Speaker 3 (36:19):
If this course surrounding the Canes going into this upcoming
season sounds a lot like that, and they fail to
make it to the Stanley Cup Finals, how are we
feeling about the team at that point?

Speaker 1 (36:32):
I feel like, yeah, I feel like with what he
just said though, that the Canes are gonna have a
lot of bites at the Apple. We never know what sports.
Things can always happen. Yeah, but it just feels like
that this is a team that's going to even if
they don't knock down the door this year, they're going
to get there eventually, just because of how they're set up.

Speaker 3 (36:48):
It would be a very different approach. And we've seen
both sides of this. We've seen the Canes they have
high expectations and they get to the conference finals. They
never reach the Stanley Cup Finals. We've seen them do that.
We've seen them with low expectations entering the postseason, just
like this past year, this most recent run, not a
lot of people thought that they would make it to
the point that they did, and yet here they were

(37:10):
reaching the conference finals, trying to figure out a way
to get to the Stanley Cup Finals. I'm just interested
in if the discourse sounds like that surrounding this Canes
team and then the Caynes team they win. I don't
know fifty games, fifty five whatever, did the mark of
a number one Sea on the top tier team being
a top tier team, and then we see the same thing.
I don't think that will be as palatable as what

(37:31):
this most recent one was. So IM just interested, Like
I'm excited. That would be awesome to see them actually
have a chance at winning the Stanley Cup title, But
the conversation would be different if we're setting it up
like that. You got some thoughts over there about the team.

Speaker 5 (37:48):
I mean, I think everything that he says I think
is right, except for the fact that you have the
core locked up long term. What is this core won
like no offense. They have gotten to the Eastern Conference fight.
They have one win as a core in the Eastern
Conference final.

Speaker 2 (38:03):
That's it.

Speaker 5 (38:04):
So I get it. It can get you to that point.
But if you want to get over the hump, is
this a corps that can actually do that? You are
locked in with these guys, like it is four years
or longer deals that you have with every one of
these guys that are in place, So I think there's
there's a possibility.

Speaker 2 (38:23):
But they're adding Eelers and the guy from New York.

Speaker 1 (38:25):
That boost, that boost, that core look and gives them
they were missing.

Speaker 5 (38:29):
Right with Elers, I think they overpaid for KeAndre Miller.
Now that's just me because I'm a guy that watched
him nightly and I saw some of the mistakes that
he had.

Speaker 2 (38:38):
Eelers.

Speaker 5 (38:39):
Yes, Eelers I like a lot, and I think he
has a He is definitely a top six forward, There's
no question about that. The cap money is also confusing
to me because you've got so much cap money. But
the thing is is you're not going to go out
and pay bigger players because eventually, if you continue to
pay big players, you're going to have somebody that's going

(38:59):
to be playing on a third line or something like
that that's gonna get frustrated with their role and say,
wait a second, you're paying me like a top six player.
Why am I not playing top six minutes? So it'll
be interesting to see how they balance all that. Biggest
thing for me too, is that we talk about all
the strengths that they have right there. What was one
thing that he did not mention as a strength goaltending.

(39:21):
That's that's another thing that still stands in the way.

Speaker 2 (39:24):
So he wasn't. Yeah, that was very disappointed.

Speaker 1 (39:29):
He was it got it is goaltending?

Speaker 3 (39:31):
Yeah, okay, all right, we can move on ey Or
West and Walker walk off coming up next, last segment
here ninety two seven FM. You're listening to sports radio
wfn Z.

Speaker 2 (39:50):
Are you challenging me to.

Speaker 1 (39:51):
A walk off?

Speaker 4 (39:54):
Oh yeah, that's a walk off challenge, my friend, it's
a walk off.

Speaker 2 (40:02):
It's a walk off.

Speaker 3 (40:05):
Last segment here on Western Walker Sports Radio ninety two
to seven w FNZ. Man, what's going on with podcasters
these days? Everybody's getting trouble first take guys or getting
in trouble. We have the Marcus Morris News. I believe
it was Marcus right, not Marquith. I need to look
it up. Marcus Marcus. So we have the Marcus Morris
News yesterday. And now we have Philip Lewis tweeting out

(40:28):
that ESPN, oh wow, this is coming in as we're
reporting it. So ESPN has cut ties with Shannon Sharp,
okay because of the situation that he was in.

Speaker 1 (40:39):
So that's news.

Speaker 3 (40:40):
And then also Philip Lewis reports that Gilbert Arenas has
been arrested along with five others on a federal indictment
alleging they were part of an illegal gambling business. Okay,
so with the Shannon Sharp stuff, ESPN just officially cuts
ties and says, no, we're good. The Athletic reported that,

(41:01):
and then Gilbert Arenas and five others were arrested on
federal indictment alleging that were part of an illegal gambling
of business.

Speaker 2 (41:08):
That'd be careful if you've got a podcast.

Speaker 1 (41:10):
That includes you over there, Floundy, that includes me, that
includes you doing all sorts of digital network stuff.

Speaker 2 (41:15):
Wes we just I just be careful. I'm just trying
to get viewers, That's all I'm trying to. Yeah, so
I don't get in trouble to go get the viewers.

Speaker 1 (41:26):
Now.

Speaker 3 (41:27):
Yeah, I wonder what happens with Gilbert at this point.
Not a whole lot to talk about, really, I know
Gilbert is one of your podcasts that you enjoy listening to.
Entertaining guy, right, Like, Gilbert Arenas has these bombastic takes,
but also like I think articulates them pretty well and
is a lightning rod for controversy and became a pretty
damn good personality.

Speaker 2 (41:47):
The first take curse.

Speaker 1 (41:49):
Yeah, that's the end of that podcast to me, in
my opinion, And I mean, it's just fusht taking. Can
people just be on the up and it's just so
fusht taking. Every time you look up there's somebody doing something.
They peer in the public one way, and then you
find out they're doing this and they're doing that, and
it's like, my god, Can anybody have some good character

(42:11):
and just be living a normal life? Can you be
like Rashaan mcanson not be invested? Please?

Speaker 2 (42:16):
Oh? I meant to say two, we forgot what class
human to bring back.

Speaker 1 (42:20):
Up that that Terry Rose came back to the surface too, Man,
did I need?

Speaker 2 (42:24):
It came right back up on him too.

Speaker 3 (42:26):
So well well, and I need to look up more
details on that as well as all of the Shannon
stuff just coming in. That's a little more self explanatory.
I believe Shannon settled fifty million with the They never released.

Speaker 1 (42:40):
The amount they settled for. That was just the original
mount that she was stealing.

Speaker 3 (42:44):
Four Okay, So eventually he settled with the woman accusing
him of sexual assault. So Shannon Sharp Now that night
Cap has continued to go.

Speaker 1 (42:53):
Night Camp has continued to go, but it's had a
little bit of issues because he's been going a decent
bitch and has been gone a decent bit.

Speaker 2 (42:59):
So they've been in have been on the ropes as well.

Speaker 3 (43:01):
And so now who knows what's going to happen with
Gilberterenas and the what's the pod name?

Speaker 2 (43:08):
Gil's Arena? Who knows what's gonna happen there?

Speaker 1 (43:10):
That's walkerheat this point, man, we just can't get caught up.
We just can't, you know, let the fame and all
the stuff get to us. You got to stay on
the straight and arrow.

Speaker 3 (43:18):
Now, these these monster midday ratings gonna go right to
my head. About to be out here causing some trouble.
Just be careful. So the first take curse. It's striking
hardcore right now. So in the last couple of days,
the Shannon Sharp incident actually happened, I don't know, a
couple months ago whenever it was. But Shannon Sharp, ESPN Cuts, Ties,

(43:39):
Gilbert Areenas, Marcus Morris, all of them, all of them.

Speaker 1 (43:43):
They're trying to break off First Take.

Speaker 2 (43:45):
Steven A.

Speaker 1 (43:45):
Smith, what's going on? I'm never going on first Take
at this point.

Speaker 3 (43:49):
If they ask me, if they beg me, please be
on the number one sports debate show that currently exists, Nope,
can't do it. I care too much about my well being.
I want to be free.

Speaker 1 (44:01):
I'm not trying to be behind bars.

Speaker 2 (44:03):
Hey Gil's arena. They have big sponsors, underdog spots. Yeah,
I guess that's true. Conspiracy.

Speaker 3 (44:10):
Yeah wow, Okay, what's on tap? This other podcaster was
a right Gilbert Veritas Bett. Now I'm all right. What's
on tap? Presented by Twin Peaks. Twin Peaks has locations
in Concord and Fort Mill. Twin Peaks in your local
sports lodge. Come in from me from Scratch Food and Signature.
Twenty nine degree draft Beers, Braves Royals playing right now.

Speaker 2 (44:33):
It's in Kansas City.

Speaker 3 (44:35):
It's actually a bullpen game, I believe for Kansas City.

Speaker 2 (44:39):
Yeah, Anthony Zurpa started. Who is one of their h
one of their relievers? Yeah, so angelsp is it? I'm
seeing Angel? Is it Angel? Okay?

Speaker 5 (44:49):
Yeah, that's probably right. I thought it was Anthony, but
you know it's okay.

Speaker 3 (44:52):
Angel Surpa started the game for Kansas City. Jonathan Bowland
pitching now for the Braves, and if you look at
or excuse me, for the Kansas City and if you
look at the picture for the Braves, who started Joey
Wentz on the mound. Going through two innings only one
hit allowed. So far it is a zero zero game.
Top of the third two outs.

Speaker 1 (45:09):
I was just going to ask you when you said
they cut ties with Shannon shot, were you reporting what
they are reporting now saying that they have fired him,
Because that's just come down the pike too. I'm reading this.

Speaker 3 (45:18):
From Philip Lewis of the New York Times slash Athletic
saying ESPN cut ties with Shannon. I only read the headline. Yeah,
they've they fired him, So that's official too. Yeah, cut
ties firing. I guess the same thing, right, But.

Speaker 1 (45:30):
I thought you was saying because they had already cut
ties with him when this stuff started, like kind of sworder,
So that's why I was confused.

Speaker 2 (45:36):
It's official.

Speaker 3 (45:36):
Shannon was not appearing during this process on first take.

Speaker 2 (45:40):
But no, it's official. They're done with your task, just fired.
These YouTube streets about to be on fire. I can wait.

Speaker 1 (45:47):
How much YouTube viewing do you think you're going to
be doing from here too? Well, when I go back
up and go to work, you know, for the Digital Network,
I'll be on these YouTube streets heavily. That's when I
get most of my YouTube viewing ins. When I come
in in the morning, I'm working prepping for this show.
I'm going YouTube surfing while I'm doing that, and then
in the afternoons when I work as well.

Speaker 2 (46:07):
So yeah, man, I'll be heavy on the streets.

Speaker 1 (46:09):
Wolftag James says.

Speaker 3 (46:10):
I bet when they offer you ten million to go
on first take, all your morals will go out the window.

Speaker 2 (46:15):
It helps, And it's.

Speaker 1 (46:16):
Kinds I suspected Israeli crime figure as well.

Speaker 3 (46:21):
You know, when you bring in some seems like a
nice guy to work with, You know, when you bring
in international authority figures, it just sounds big, you know, and.

Speaker 1 (46:28):
Give an Arena strikes me as a type of guy
that he will talk. So he's gonna give up. Whatever
I picture Bernie Max going standing up, it's him. Yeah.
I try to talk Arenas all day long. He is
gonna rat so'st prepare. It's him right there. I promise
That's why I was in business.

Speaker 2 (46:45):
Well all right, please let me cants be involved.

Speaker 3 (46:48):
Oh no, Shot, what if for Shot actually becomes the
headliner for that.

Speaker 2 (46:54):
Podcast for Shots Arena?

Speaker 3 (46:57):
I think born to be hated as the pod that's.

Speaker 5 (47:00):
The stupidest podcast known to man, that would be what
that would with his big nailed bat getting the crown
on his head.

Speaker 3 (47:09):
Oh my god, Carolina fans, their head would just combust, boom, explode.

Speaker 2 (47:14):
They would not like it.

Speaker 1 (47:15):
Arena is finished. That'll do it for West and Walker.
And try to be out here in the streets not
doing a damn thing, to be honest with you, just
being on our best behavior.
