Speaker 1 (00:09):
One more hour to go on Weston Walker This No
Rules Friday Sports Radio ninety two to seven WFNZ. We
got everybody hanging out basically Shroppy, he's on the ones
and two. Spitty's been hanging out in the Channel VAULTA
studios for really the entire show. We had Wes on
at twelve forty five, and we got Willie peon right now,
the voice of Charlotte FC, to discuss hopefully a nine
(00:32):
game winning streak after they're done with Miami this weekend.
It's Willie Plasma producing Pelachic joining us here on the
guest line. Willy, are you nervous for giving blood in
just a little bit. I'm not nervous. I'm not giving
I'm having blood drawn, actually blood drawn, Okay, for live purposes, God,
for lab purposes.
Speaker 2 (00:51):
Gotcha?
Speaker 1 (00:52):
See, I thought you were giving plasma like I was like, Willy,
are you a little short on cash?
Speaker 2 (00:55):
My man? I can spot you a little bit. Now.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
This is so only a fact finding mission scenario, not
for the monetary situation.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
How much ice is in my veins?
Speaker 1 (01:06):
Were you that was strappy? By the way, if you
couldn't tell, were you ever strapped for cash? So badly
in college that you and a few buddies ever gave
plasma for like sixty bucks.
Speaker 2 (01:17):
Never never did. But I knew where it was.
Speaker 3 (01:19):
I knew where the blood slash plasma donation place was.
It was actually right near a place where we used
to go and get breakfast, like one of our professor
used to take to get breakfast. It was right next
to the blood plasma place on campus. So I knew
where it was. I knew where dudes. I knew dudes
who used to have to go to that place. But
thankfully I was never in that situation. You said you
(01:41):
would give Bran Bronico your biscuits one time. I did
give Ban Bronico or anybody else your blood if it
meant that they could perform in a Charlotte FC match.
I don't know if they want it, but if they
needed it and I was a match, I would.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
I'd give my blood to any Charlotte FC player.
Speaker 1 (01:58):
That's better than Royd's. Man, I've heard your calls. You
get excited. That's basically decadurabalin running through my veins right there.
The Willie p energy that he brings to the mic
every single time. It's Willy p the voice of Charlotte FC,
joining us on Wes and Walker. All Right, Willie, what's
the pet bl injury update?
Speaker 3 (02:14):
So Pep was in training the last couple of days.
He was in training yesterday, he was in training today.
I think, you know, it's a situation where he'll be
available for selection. Whether he starts or whether he comes
off the bench, I think is still yet to be determined.
I think, if it's me, part of me wants to
maybe not mess with what's been working for Charlotte of
C over the last couple because there is going to
(02:36):
have to be a reacclimation process and not only how
he plays, but how they play around him. They've been
so defensively solid as well. I wonder if you want
to mess that up. And also, last time Pep Bill
had an injury, he ended up needing a couple of
games to get himself reacclimated. He didn't look necessarily his
best when he came back against Columbus. So I'm wondering
whether or not it's something that you bring him back
(02:57):
in and maybe it's something where off the bench. But
also wouldn't be shocked that we see him start on Saturday.
So it's an interesting decision Dean Smith has in fun
of them.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
But what is the bigger deal heading into this matchup?
Is it the pet bl injury or is it Dean
Smith not coaching because of the suspension.
Speaker 3 (03:15):
I mean, Dean Smith, I think will have a bigger
impact than whether or not PEP starts or not, because
I do think that there will be some different things
they have to work through. From what we're told, and
this is told to me by sources close to the team,
is that Dean Smith will have the ability to talk
to coaches, He'll be able to be wired in. From
what he told us, he's going to be sitting in.
(03:36):
He can't sit in the technical booth, so he might
be sitting actually with David Tepper at his box coming
up tomorrow, So it'll be a situation where he's able
to at least talk to coaches, but he can't have
any direct contact with the players from about ninety minutes
up until match days, so at least still all chance
to give them a pregame talk before six o'clock and
then basically the only people he can talk to are
(03:58):
the assistants from the wired instant point. But that's gonna
be something that's a little bit different, but he'll still
be able to have his imprint on the match in
that fashion. Well, did you ever angle at all for
Dean Smith to possibly be in the broadcast booth with you.
Speaker 2 (04:12):
Made the ask?
Speaker 3 (04:12):
We definitely made the ask. I think I think knowing
what the restriction, I think I think it was kind
of dependent on what the restrictions were. That The fact is,
the restrictions are kind of plastic in a way, like, yeah,
he can't coach the match on the sideline, but he's
basically almost the He almost feels like he's an offensive
or defensive coordinator in an NFL game, where you like,
(04:35):
he's up in the booth, he can have a headset,
he can talk to the coaches. It feels kind of
like a bit of a teflong suspension. So in reality,
what actually are you missing from him other than his
screaming voice. And even Nashley Westwood said to me earlier today,
he said it might actually help us because the gafferd
does get afful animated and screaming down there, so it
might actually help them focus a little bit more. But
(04:56):
I think it's a situation where it should not affect
them that much, but it is something that's definitely a
talking point going in.
Speaker 1 (05:03):
All Right, Willie Plastic Po Logic joining us here on
Western Walker Sports Radio ninety two to seven WFNZ. Willie,
how big of a loss is Suarez for Miami?
Speaker 2 (05:12):
Incredible?
Speaker 3 (05:13):
He is kinda they're all everything up top six goals,
ten assists. He hasn't had the same kind of season
he had last year. He's been more of a facilitator
and I think it's it's definitely helped their offense di versify,
but they don't really have a like for like guy.
They can sub in, and they're very shorthanded too. As
it is. They do have some talent beyond him. Obviously,
(05:35):
Lionel Messi is part of that, and they got some
younger players too, to Alasko Segovia and today O Allende.
Allende actually scored the lone goal in the last batch
between these two squads, I'd expect him to start at
the center forward position. They also added Rodrigo de Paul,
who is the latest of the Messi super friends to
come in and join Lionel Messi. So it's not like
there is in talent up front, but he definitely is
(05:57):
a very prime target man still at his a It's
something that they're going to have to really adjust to,
and it's the first game without him. That's the other
thing too, is that despite his age, he's played in
a lot of the contest that Inner Miami has had,
so they're not exactly used to playing without him. So
it's something that they're going to have to figure out.
And also from a short hand a standpoint, they're down him,
(06:18):
they're down a couple of their other key reserves like
David Ruiz and a couple of other forwards as well.
So it is something where a lot of what Miami
has to do is with the guys who start the match.
They're not going to have a lot of pivots they
can turn to off the bench.
Speaker 1 (06:31):
In this one, Willie pivot Pelagic joining us here on
Western Walker Willie. It is cool to go to MLS
dot com and see the headline Charlotte FC chases MLS
history against Inner Miami and then the first paragrapher him
by Justin Rudiman is hosting Inner Miami CF and Lionel
Messi with the chance to secure playoff berth. Regular season
games don't get much bigger than that. My question to you,
(06:52):
is this the biggest regular season game, maybe outside of
the first one in Charlotte FC history that you've called.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
To this point, I'd still put the game decision Day
twenty twenty three is more important, I think, just in
the landscape of things, because clinching that first playoff Berth
was a landmark moment for this squad, but this one's
definitely up there, and particularly because of the fact that
you do have MLS history on your side, the clinching
of the playoff Berth is kind of more of a
(07:20):
fade of complete I think kind of after this little
run of games, people kind of thought, Okay, it's gonna happen.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
They do need a little bit of help too.
Speaker 3 (07:28):
If they win, they also need a Red Bull loss
or draw, which could very well happen. They're playing a
tough opponent of the Red Bulls, so it's not like
that's something that still can't happen. But at the same
point in time, having the stage and really everybody's gonna.
Speaker 2 (07:43):
Be watching this contest.
Speaker 3 (07:44):
Who is not a fan of a singular team because
it's the biggest matchup on the slate. Having Messi involved
obviously turns the temperature up a little bit a little
bit more, but it definitely is up there amongst the
games that we've called and the games that we've seen.
It's at least the second or third biggest regular season
game that we've had at Bank of America Stadium.
Speaker 2 (08:04):
Definitely, Willie.
Speaker 1 (08:05):
I was listening to Charlotte Sports today and I thought
it was interesting that you were talking about Wilford Zaha,
and I forget the exact word you used, but basically
it was how interesting he was as a player, like
one of the more interesting players you've ever covered in
all of sports. What makes him so interesting and how
would you describe the year that he's had so far.
Speaker 3 (08:23):
Well, he's very cerebral, and he will think about what
he wants to say when you ask him a question.
He's incredibly thoughtful and thought provoking. And you would think
with somebody of his stature that it's the greatest mix
of not arrogance, but greatest mix of confidence but also humility.
(08:47):
I think is where it is because he's confident in
his own skin, confident with his own game, but he's
also dedicated to the cause. And I think he probably
is also one of the more misunderstood guys because people
looked at his his brashness and his abrasiveness and made
it out to be a bit of a character concern
and something of a concern in the locker room, when
(09:08):
in reality, people know where he's coming from. He has
a high standard for himself. He has a high stand
for this team, and it's to help the team. He
wants to win, and I think that's something and he's
willing to do whatever he can to win. And I
think he even admitted too that he maybe did a
little bit too much early on and tried to do
too much early on, and now that he's settled into
this role, he's had a very very nice season. Seven goals,
(09:31):
nine assists. There's only ten players in the league who
have had as many goals and assists as he has
in this season, which tells me that he's having the
kind of impact, of that kind of singular impact on
this team that not very many people have. It's not
blowing everything away, it's not challenging for a Golden Boot,
but at the same point in time, he's having a
big impact and I think other people are starting to
(09:54):
notice it. And I even talk with Danny Higginbotham earlier
this week, he has known Zaha since his time in
the Premier League, said look, this is Wilf. This is
the Wilf I expected. It wasn't going to be great
right off the bat, because adjusting to a new league
was always going to be difficult, and also he hadn't
played for the better part of like six to eight
months when he was on low with the leon from
Galatas array, So it was a situation where it was
(10:16):
always going to be an acclimation period. But now that
he's comfortable, now that his teammates know where he's coming from,
and now that he knows the spots is going to
be in, he's having a very big impact.
Speaker 2 (10:25):
And even pet Biel returning should even increase that.
Speaker 1 (10:27):
All right, let's hear from Willie Panther Pelagic real quickly
before we get you out of here. Are you panthering up?
Going into this week two matchup against Arizona.
Speaker 3 (10:34):
I feel confident about them this week, I really am,
just because I think it was never I don't think
it's ever going to look as bad as it did
against Jacksonville. I do think that, you know, I take
into account the feelings of the players and saying that
they are kind of ticked off and they do feel
like maybe their character has been put into question a
little bit here. I expect the response. I don't think
Arizona was a very good team. I think it's pretty
(10:57):
much the same kind of team they're playing a week ago,
with some spots in some areas and some musher spots
in other areas. I think they can run on this
defense they proved so much late last year. I do
think they're going to have to do something that is
to contain their run game and obviously contain the tight
end Trey McBride and contain Marvin Harrison Junior. But I
think if those things, if they win the run game battle,
they win a lone of scrimmage with getting a quantu
(11:19):
back that definitely puts a big feather in their cap,
and obviously also containing mcbrad and Harrison, I think they
win the football game, but they can't do it by
playing the way they did.
Speaker 2 (11:27):
Last week by any stretch of the imagination.
Speaker 1 (11:29):
A possible playoff berth on the line here for Charlotte FC,
or the ability to clinch a playoff berth against Miami
this weekend. This game is tomorrow seven point thirty, but
seven is when coverage begins right here on Sports Radio
ninety two seven WFNZ with Willy on the call. That
is Willy please give PEP PEP talk for us Pelacik
(11:49):
joining us on West and Walker Sports Radio ninety two
to seven FM. Willy appreciate the time as always, my man,
Good luck on the call, my pleasure Walker anytime. Yeah,
good stuff from Willi P if you missed a little
bit of that.
Speaker 2 (12:00):
Man.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
I'm excited for this one. A potential nine game win
streak on the line here for Charlotte FC and to
see them getting so much national love. You mentioned Willie
talking about soccer fans. They're going to tune into this
one as long as the team that they're a fan
of is not playing at the same time. So gonna
be cool to have that kind of attention surrounding Charlotte FC.
It's time for the Live wire coming up next with

don't want to waste any more time shopping. Are you
good in your fifth hour?

Now?
Speaker 1 (13:08):
Like you're about to hit five hours of radio for
the third straight day, do you have enough in you
for two more segments and one more live wire? I'm
good man, I'm gassed up. I'm gassed up. Oh dude,
I can tell I feel the energy. Let's do it.
Time now for the live wire with Shrobdog, the of
the West of.
Speaker 5 (13:28):
The West, Up, Off down, sound down, live wise.
Speaker 4 (13:33):
All right, Well, starting like with yesterday, let's start with
the with the non football piece of audio here, as
we actually have quite an interesting SoundBite here from Bill
Simmons on the on the Bilsimon's podcast as he goes
through and explains that he thinks the Kankain nipple can
make the Olympic team in twenty twenty eight.
Speaker 2 (13:53):
I rarely do this.
Speaker 6 (13:55):
I guarantee this guy is going to actually be on
the team in twenty twenty eight. That's how strongly I
feel about this. Perton Conkin Nipple, Wow, Wow, your flat
you are guaranteeing. I'm guaranteeing he will be one of
the twelve guys in twenty twenty eight. He's perfect, perfect
for international basketball. Can play multiple positions, can switch on defense,
(14:19):
knows where to go and what to do like very
Derek Whitish just kind of knows how to fit in
with other guys and can shoot. And I think I'm
just betting on in three years it will make complete
sense that he's on the team and he's just he
just checks so many boxes for.
Speaker 2 (14:36):
The international thing.
Speaker 6 (14:37):
He won't care if he plays that much. He'll be
ready if you need him. He has insurance at the
swing spots. He can rebound. He's the kind of guy
that would be on like I don't know Serbia or
Lithuania and he'd be like, God, that guy's killing us.
Speaker 2 (14:53):
We can't. How does he have twelve rebounds in four threes?
So he's a must for me.
Speaker 4 (14:58):
He has to be on for it to be a
guarantee as he said that that Nipple will be on
the Olympic team.
Speaker 2 (15:04):
Do you agree or do you think that's a bit
too lofty Ian.
Speaker 1 (15:06):
Yeah, So the argument isn't whether I guarantee it, because
that's clearly a bold take. Can I see it happening?
The way that he sees it happening is by carving
out a Derek White type of role. So one, I
think Derek White defensively is maybe a top five defender,
but certainly a top ten defender in the NBA as
it currently stands. I don't think kN Knipple is going
(15:28):
to reach those heights, but I understand what he's saying
In terms of being a really malleable player. I think
con is a player that you can put into any
system and feel great about what that floor is going
to be. I don't think he goes into really any
system and you see your system or you see your
gameplay go down a peck. I think you can at
least be average, and with the shooting, with all the
(15:49):
attention that he's going to garner, with the secondary play making,
with the physicality that he welcomes, I just think you
can put him in any lineup and you can feel
good about it, whether it's at the two or whether
it's at the three. Of course this is all matchup based,
but that's what he's saying. Can you be just this
ball of clay that can conform and anything we ask
of you, like a Derek White. I think Con Kinnipple
(16:10):
can do that, and that's why we talked about this
on Lockdown Hornets. Doug made the prediction that Con is
going to be the player that every other podcast host
once from our team when they're doing fake trades on
their niche NBA team pod, They're going to create trades
to go get Con and eventually, you know how it
is around here, they're gonna give us like three seconds
(16:31):
for Con and it's going to be ten ten cents
on the dollar, and it's gonna be a deal we
would never do, so I can see it happening from
that standpoint. I do have to point out that Bill
Simmons calling out Con Kinnipple by name is no surprise
because Con did join the Bill Simmons podcast during the
pre draft process. There's so there's some bias there and
(16:54):
the last time I heard Bill Simmons go this hard
in on a player and he's got a great NBA
draft history. There's some YouTube videos of Bill Simmons just
freaking nailing the draft in five ten years after the fact.
So this is not to say Bill Simmons doesn't know ball.
He knows ball. But the last time that I heard
him go so hard for an NBA draft pick, it
(17:16):
was Scoot Henderson. Sounds familiar. I did the same thing.
Scoot Henderson could be very good. Scoot had a good
second year, but he wasn't amazing this past year, and
the first year was a little bit not a train wreck,
but it was certainly underwhelming.
Speaker 2 (17:32):
Those are the two things I would throw out there.
Speaker 1 (17:34):
But I understand where he's getting at with con being
a player that is just a jack of all trades
type of guy and could fit with any twenty twenty
eight Olympic team.
Speaker 4 (17:43):
Well, I think that's that was the main reason as
to why we wanted the Hornets to draft him, is
because he's a guy that you can just plug and play.
Speaker 2 (17:50):
Would you know?
Speaker 4 (17:51):
This thing is that his floor is higher than you know,
a lot of the projects that were around him, And
I think that's that's where he benefits this team. Is that, Yeah,
his ceiling may not be exponentially high, but it's the
fact that, yeah, you can. You can insert him right
now and he'll be able to work with whatever scheme
that you have. So pretty cool to hear him say that.
Hopefully con can live up to that. You know, I
(18:14):
of have to see it to believe it. I'm not
quite that high on Conkinipple, but that'd be definitely awesome
to see.
Speaker 2 (18:19):
A big jump.
Speaker 1 (18:19):
Here we are in twenty twenty five and he's looking
at the twenty twenty eight US Olympic team, so it
would be awesome to see him get there for sure.
Speaker 4 (18:25):
Well, I guess the question I would have based off
that another spin out of the out of Brendan Miller
or Konk Nipple, Which one would you choose? Which one
would you say has a more, you know, more likely
to be on the Olympic roster.
Speaker 2 (18:39):
I would say Brandon Miller.
Speaker 1 (18:41):
I would too, But I understand where Bill is coming
from from conn There's some bias here too, like that
happened right like con even when he joined him on
the pre draft process, Con mentioned how much he is
a historian of the game, and he Bill eats that up.
Speaker 2 (18:55):
He's got the Basketball book.
Speaker 1 (18:56):
So that's right up Bill's alley and he listens to
the Bill Simmons podcast, so there was a lot of
yucking it up going on, which is cool. I would
be really happy to be on the pod if I
was a top five draft pick going into the NBA.
Speaker 2 (19:07):
So there's some of that.
Speaker 1 (19:08):
Brandon Miller also malleable, I think because of the shooting,
which is the most valuable skill set when it comes
to versatility. Just plug and play and you don't really
have to worry about it. The difference between Conn and
Brandon Miller. The vertical athleticism is better for Brandon, but
really gets the height that Brandon being so tall and long.
I think that's a big separation between the two. What
(19:30):
else you got shop? All right, We'll moving on to
some football here.
Speaker 4 (19:32):
Mina Chimes on the Amena Chimes Show featuring Nanny was
talking about the Week one performance for Bryce Young and
was explaining that it really wasn't as bad as the
numbers would.
Speaker 2 (19:43):
Make you believe.
Speaker 7 (19:44):
Bryce Young wasn't as bad as his box car. I
really the Panthers' pass catchers weren't healing me. Outside of
Ti McMillan, our sweet baby it's amazing, healing me xavierly.
Speaker 2 (19:58):
Get he's so frustrating, infuriating.
Speaker 7 (20:04):
They charted them with three drops. According to PFF, I
looked like more. Honestly, there was some pretty bad drops
in key situations in this one. The other thing was
like bright Bracey neck face, the highest quick pressure rate
in the league in this game, the absence of you
know tackle and I mean nigeman and then you know,
(20:26):
one of the interceptions was really really bad decision, but
the other one was tipped.
Speaker 2 (20:31):
He was not good. I'm not lying to you and
saying he was good.
Speaker 3 (20:34):
In this game.
Speaker 7 (20:34):
I just don't think he was quite as bad as
the score says. And I wouldn't be surprised if he
bounces back in this one.
Speaker 4 (20:42):
Brice, please bounce back, man, I got which, So I
think we would agree that he didn't look as bad
as the numbers would say because all the missed opportunities
out there, mainly from his receivers.
Speaker 2 (20:53):
Right, Yeah, I do agree with it.
Speaker 1 (20:55):
When I put out the tweet about him having played
his worst game since he came back to the starting lineup,
it wasn't based off of the box score. It was
based off of one him playing well when he came back.
So there weren't too many games to choose from that
were worse than what you saw against Jacksonville. That is
a part of this. The games that you could point to,
in my opinion, are Dallas, where he had a way
(21:17):
worse grade and he fumbled the ball and turned it
over a couple of times. But I give him more
of a pass in that contest because the offensive line
was terrible. It was the worst game Taylor Moten played
in pass protection. Damian Lewis gave up quick pressure, so
did Robert Hutt. Nobody was good protecting for Bryce Young.
That's going to be really hard to play a good
quarterback in. So then you go to Denver where even
(21:38):
so like that's a great defense. He even had some
downfield throws. There was an interception that should have been
a completion. Twos averly get down the right sideline of
that game. I thought this one was the worst one.
It was the timing of the turnovers, it was the
fumbling at the end of the first half, and then
Jacksonville scoring as soon as they get the football back.
That's a big, big deal. It's what kills you on
(21:59):
your drives that interception I thought was bad. I thought
zaverly Gett could have helped Bryce a little more. But
he's also throwing it while the defendant defensive back is
already planning his foot in the ground and attacking that football.
I don't think he was good, which Mina Kimes recognized
everything she said, couldn't agree with it more. I don't
think that he was as bad as the numbers might suggest.
(22:22):
I think he was bad. I don't think he was good.
I don't think he was the problem overall in this game.
I think the bigger issues were left tackle being a
revolving door, Austin Korbett not snapping it, forgetting how to snap,
zavierly get not dragging his foot or doing anything else really,
and Hudder Renfro not coming down with a couple of
(22:43):
tough catches, which is a little more understandable.
Speaker 2 (22:45):
J T.
Speaker 1 (22:45):
Sanders dropping a pass. There was a lot working against him,
but I thought that was an excellent way of breaking
it down. I thought he was bad, but there were
certainly other problems around him.
Speaker 2 (22:55):
You see this page right here. Yeah, you and I
are on the same way.
Speaker 1 (23:00):
Oh okay, I didn't know that was going, But I
like it all right, gotta be on the same page
with it, all right.
Speaker 4 (23:06):
Uh, the movie on to one of my one of
my favorite names of all time that have played for
the Panthers, Captain Munterland great One on his own on
his own podcast, was talking about Xcel, the guy that
you had mentioned there. He says, football pays the bills
and Xcel needs to start acting like it.
Speaker 8 (23:27):
I'm tired of the excuses or this country stuff, like
all the slang and you know that's cool. What about
lace them up and playing football? No, everybody want to
talk about his accent, how he's talk you know, he's
been in gorilla videos and stuff like that. What about
playing football? That what pays your bill? Playing football pays
(23:47):
your bills? And right now he's not showing us that
he was deserving of a first round pick. I'm just
I'm being honest with you. And he has to pick
his game up, like I hope he listened. And now
over here.
Speaker 2 (24:04):
Have the fans officially turned against Excel? Yeah no they have.
Speaker 1 (24:09):
Well here's what I hate, though, man, about the whole
Excel stuff, because now if we start to go off
of the football field and now we start talking about
his accent. And now we start talking about him being
in the glow rill of music video and me and
West have gotten into it a little bit with the
bad there's bad practice habits, and I know that to
be for sure because of what I've seen him in
(24:29):
some of the other clips on social media.
Speaker 2 (24:31):
Like that's where I just am not going to go
that far.
Speaker 1 (24:35):
I'm just because I've seen him in a music video,
just because everybody wants to market him with him being
this fun personality, it doesn't mean that he's not working hard.
I've seen the workout videos too. They're just not as
attention grabbing, so they don't get nearly as much play.
But I've seen those as well. Nobody says Xcel isn't
working hard. He's not coming in and weighing, he's not
(24:57):
coming in overweight, like Jalen Kocher was like, that's not
something that he's being accused of. But zavierly Get's just
not playing good football. The whole accent stuff, when we're
talking about that's great you have a southern accent, Like, yeah,
I don't care to bring that in, man. I only
care about that because the personality is fun, and that's
okay to say that he's a fun dude. I think
(25:18):
he's genuinely a good guy. I haven't heard anything bad
about the person that he is. What my problem is
is what he does on the football field. Evaluating him
as a football player. He's not been cutting it over
the last eighteen games or whatever that he's played. That's
a real issue. But then when we start to say, oh,
you're in a glow or his music video, Oh everybody
(25:39):
cares about the accent, Why don't you be good at football?
I think he wants to be man. The problem is
he might just not be it. So I saw somebody
earlier in the show say you really think JT. Sanders
has shown more than zaverly Get A couple things. One, yes, absolutely,
I do. I do think he's shown more than zaverly Get.
I think just watching the film you can see that
he's much more fluid. And I have real issues with
(26:01):
le Guet not having improved as much. I don't think
Sanders is somebody I can say has improved. He needs
to catch the football, for sure, but last year he
showed us some nice things, hauling in some fifty to
fifty balls, being a nice outlet for Bryce. He gets
hurt and Tommy Trimble takes over.
Speaker 4 (26:18):
J T.
Speaker 1 (26:18):
Sanders just doesn't ever take that role back. I think
we are seeing j T. Sanders open downfield. He's got
to catch it, but he looks much more fluid to
me zaveryle get. Everything seems like he's laboring. Everything seems hard,
even the pass out to the flats that he had
in this game against Jacksonville. He made a nice couple
of nice moves. There just wasn't anywhere to escape. And
(26:40):
that's about as agile as I've seen him. And he
got like a zero yard game, maybe even lost one.
So the accent stuff, we can leave that alone. Man,
I don't need to bring in the accent. I don't
need to bring in the personality when I evaluate him
as a football player.
Speaker 2 (26:55):
He needs to perform. We all know it. I'm leaving
the personality out of it.
Speaker 4 (26:58):
Yeah, And if anything, his personalities actually, you know, gave
him quite a bit of grace last year with people
willing to give him some you know sometime because he
is such a likable guy, you know.
Speaker 2 (27:10):
On the text line, I had to name this.
Speaker 4 (27:13):
Guy Excel defender because he's been going at it since
ten fifty eight. Today in the morning, he said, damn,
you're blaming XL. Come on, y'all, you know you got
to get a new quarterback all day. I'm serious, or
put him on the bench. And I just I don't
think this is a Bryce issue. I mean, it's a
him not getting his foot down is not a Brice issue.
Speaker 1 (27:32):
I don't know what else you want him to do
if he throws it, if he doesn't throw it where
he does, and he doesn't lead him like he does.
Now Xcel has to stop dead in his tracks on
the route that is taking him to the sideline and
possibly drops it, or Bryce Young throws it behind him.
Speaker 2 (27:47):
It's a tip pass.
Speaker 1 (27:48):
Now you have a ball up in the air in
the defensive backfield and a cornerbacker of safety comes up
with it. He threw it exactly where he needed to
because he probably processed there's enough space for Excel to
get his foot down and there was. That was on Bryce.
What about the other passes to XL. What about the
other games that we've seen. This is not a Bryce issue.
(28:08):
I'm pulling for Xavier league gat like I really really
wanted to work for him because I love the guy
like that. That's one hundred percent of the truth. Do
I believe that he's going to be a worthwhile first
round pick when it's all said and done, I don't.
Speaker 4 (28:23):
I have not.
Speaker 1 (28:24):
I don't think he's earned the benefit of the doubt
in that regard. But make no mistake, I do really
want that for him, and I hope he does show
us that he is worthy of that first round pick. YEP,
I'm rooting for him just the same.
Speaker 4 (28:35):
And the last one I played for you is from
offensive coordinator Brad Idzick yesterday in his press conference, focusing
on the process of getting in and out of the
huddle faster this week.
Speaker 9 (28:47):
The first thing we did this week is a challenge
of guys with three things. Just talking about being urgent
into and out of the huddle, getting to the line
of scrimmage so we can start to digest information as possible,
getting looks in the run game, getting our points right,
and getting the communication echoed out up front. The second
piece is brevity of communication, so coupling the just the
(29:11):
tempo of getting in and out of the huddle, the
temple of getting the play called is not adding fluff
in our communication, So that kind of couples with a
trust that your teammates know what they're doing.
Speaker 2 (29:23):
So it's all kind of tied in together.
Speaker 9 (29:25):
But really urgency and brevity were the two kind of
themes of our pre snap stuff, to just make sure
that we're getting to the line, we're clear in our communication,
and then we're trusting each other to do the right thing.
Speaker 4 (29:37):
Do you think these pre snap issues with the huddle
and all that could have been maybe fixed if whenever
the starters did play in the preseason Canal's actually was
the play caller.
Speaker 2 (29:47):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (29:48):
I don't know if they would have been fixed. What
I do think is going to happen is if there's
one thing that is going to be better in this game,
it's got to be that. Yeah, not just because it
feels that's something that happens where it's all on you.
It's one hundred percent the coach, the center, and the
quarterback's fault either one of them one hundred percent of
(30:10):
the time. It's a thirty three percent split. I don't know.
All I know is that one hundred percent goes to
the Panthers. Sometimes in the run game, it's not one
hundred percent of the Panthers fault. James Connor might make
a hell of a play and beat you that way.
The offensive line might have a great get off. They
have way better leverage than you do. And that does
fall on the defensive line for sure, but at least
(30:30):
somebody is actively fighting you on it. Nobody's fighting you
on the play clock, man, you know exactly what it is.
You got to get the play clock in Austin Corbett
has to call out protections. Ryce Young has to understand
what he sees in front of him, and you got
to snap the ball with hopefully about five seconds left
rather than it going all the way up to one
and then you have to burn a time out. That
is solely a you problem. So if there's anything that
(30:53):
you fix right away as soon as we see you
play against Arizona, I hope it's that, man, because that
speaks more to self disfund than dysfunction overall, where other
people might affect that. Like if it's the run game
that you allow two hundred yards again, James Connor is great.
I do respect what they've built over there. Kyler Murray
is one of the best running quarterbacks in all the NFL.
Cool Like I I hope it doesn't happen, but I
(31:16):
understand it to a certain degree, the pre snap operation.
Nah man, you got to fix that, because that's all you.
It's Western Walker Sports Radio ninety two seven WFNZ. One
more segment to go. It's the walk Off coming up
next on ninety two seven FM.
Speaker 8 (31:34):
Job an you challenge for me to walk off?
Speaker 3 (31:44):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (31:44):
Yeah, that's a walk off challenge, my friend. It's a
walk off, the walkover.
Speaker 1 (31:54):
Wrapping up this no Rules Friday on Weston Walker. Thanks
for listening to us and the midday. We'll be back
with you on Monday. Of course, every weekday from twelve
to three. I'm hoping we're talking about a panther's victory.
The meantime, we'll wrap it up with What's on Tap,
presented by Twin Peaks. Twin Peaks has locations in Concord
and Fort Mill. Twin Peaks is your local sports lodges.
Come in from May from Scratch Food and Signature twenty
(32:15):
nine degree draft beers. What's on tap? We got a
high school football game on tap. Fitty gonna be on
the call. Is it with Floundy or is it with
Kyle Bailey?
Speaker 5 (32:25):
Talk to us, Fitty, it's with Kyle Lyapold Bailey. Tonight,
we'll be on the air from seven to ten, ten thirty.
Speaker 2 (32:33):
All right, talk to us about the game. What do
you expect?
Speaker 5 (32:35):
Hey, we got Providence today and Butler. He got a
chance to call Butler back at the kickoff night a
few weeks ago. Providence Dag Chad Greer. All he does
is win, win, win, no matter what. The Mustangs three
and oh a lot of Division one talent on the
football field tonight.
Speaker 2 (32:51):
So I'm pretty.
Speaker 5 (32:51):
Excited if we get half the game we got last
week thirty five, thirty four, dramatic, you know, down to
the final play. Literally, I'll be I'll be pretty excited
to have that type of game once again.
Speaker 1 (33:02):
How much did you throw your weight around trying to
be play by play oh tonight?
Speaker 2 (33:06):
I mean that's a lot of weight to throw around.
Speaker 5 (33:09):
Nothing man, Cale Bailey's you know, for my money. You
know he may have the best play by play voice
of any wfn Z employee.
Speaker 2 (33:16):
It's not. I don't know who else would be. Really, Oh,
you don't think I got a great voice?
Speaker 5 (33:23):
Guy?
Speaker 2 (33:23):
Wow?
Speaker 1 (33:24):
I guess I was thinking about the show lineup because
I don't think it would be anybody else like Kyle,
cause you know, I.
Speaker 2 (33:30):
Love Willy collin soccer games.
Speaker 1 (33:32):
You know this, I don't think there's anybody that could
do that job better than Willy p I think with
all of the show lineup, because I'm not a play
by play guy. No, you're a good analyst though, when
you do the Queen's games, I do like I like
doing color analysts work.
Speaker 2 (33:46):
I am a fan of that.
Speaker 1 (33:47):
I did some play by play stuff at Queen's and
I enjoyed it, like it's fun. But if I'm being
very self aware of who I am, it was rough
play by play. It always hits different if you say
something about it. Because I'm the one saying, yeah, it
wasn't very good, you could say, yeah, you're right, you
don't know me.
Speaker 2 (34:05):
Yeah, it's what I can only pick on myself.
Speaker 4 (34:07):
No, it was.
Speaker 1 (34:08):
Kyle is very good at play by play, and so
I'm totally with you, which is why I would like
to have a Freaky Friday situation where you do play
by play and he does color and I'd like to
listen to that product.
Speaker 5 (34:18):
So you know, if I had the trail boss that
he drove and I was as confident as he was, Yeah,
and maybe it would have been like, Hey, I got
play by play just to get the reaction. What's funny
is whatever Flounder and I do these games, we're both
more comfortable doing the analyst part.
Speaker 1 (34:33):
Yeah, play by play is hard, man, Like, if you
want to do it well, really, if you want to
do anything well, then you're gonna have such high expectations
for yourself to where you're going to make the job.
You're going to prepare for the job like. It's hard,
and play by play you got to be fluid, You
got to have your mind on top of a whole
bunch of different things. And when you're an analyst, all
(34:54):
you got to do is watch the play and give
your thoughts on the play, and the play by play
announcer has to drive in so many different areas. It's
a damn hard job.
Speaker 2 (35:03):
I mean, and I'm not.
Speaker 5 (35:05):
I know that Wes had a lot of criticisms for
my analysis last week, but I thought I did a
really good job laying out and letting Flown kind of
steal the show because it was his.
Speaker 2 (35:13):
Call, and maybe it would call back Flown by the way.
Speaker 5 (35:16):
I maybe would have respected Wes's opinion more had he
been on the sidelines wearing pants last Saturday, because rumor
has it he's wearing pants tomorrow down in Miami.
Speaker 2 (35:25):
He's not a rumor, he confirmed such.
Speaker 1 (35:27):
A source close to the situation did say that he
was indeed wearing pants this go around, and he did
talk about that possibly on these airwaves while you were
out of the studio.
Speaker 5 (35:36):
My influence has no bounds, See, dude, I should cut
your mica off.
Speaker 1 (35:41):
I was hoping he wasn't listening during that portion because
Bagel Guy even knows he's the one that asked, because
he likes to stir it up. We know what Bagel
Guy is all about. He said, is Wes wearing shorts
this go around? So I did ask him, and I
didn't realize that he was going to say, yeah, I
got told that I can't. Now, I don't know if
he meant that at as the as production telling him
(36:02):
he can't do it, or I mean, I don't know
how else he interpreted. To be honest with you, I
was going to try to give another option, but I
think that's it. I think you got told you can't
wear shorts out there.
Speaker 5 (36:11):
I've even if if it wasn't in the CW, he
would let it be known that it was the CW
because he would never admit that I got inside his head.
Speaker 1 (36:22):
That's true, and to be fair, if I was in
that situation, it would do the same exact thing. I
would rather die than let you know that you were
right and you got in my head and I ended
up buying pants because of what you said. What's on tap?
Also have a baseball game. It's the Atlanta Braves taken
on the Houston Astros. Braves are sixty five and eighty
one on the season. They lost their series to the Cubs,
(36:43):
and that includes the last game. They only lost three
to two, so it was a close game between both.
But Atlanta tries to get off the snide after losing
back to back against Houston. They'll start that series tonight
at seven point fifteen. First pitch. They host the Astros.
By the way, Jaden Murray on the mound for Hugh Hoon.
Hurston Waldrip, one of the funnier names, to be honest
with you, in all of Major League Baseball. He's four
(37:05):
and oh baby, how about a one three to three
for Hurston Waldrip, So shout out to Waldrip. They're pitching
for the Braves smoke is cheering, and it's because Bryce
Young is featured right now on a segment on The Herd.
But it's Jason McIntyre hosting. So I can't tell you
that I have any care in the world as to
what he's saying about the Carolina Panthers. Smoke, What's he
(37:25):
saying about him?
Speaker 2 (37:27):
Headline says Cards Bowl over Carolina Panthers.
Speaker 1 (37:30):
So oh, so you're saying, because he's picking the Cardinals
that we should feel good about the Panthers' chances of winning.
Speaker 2 (37:36):
Yes, because Bruce's a massive idiot, am. This is a
feisty Friday. I don't think you said Brucey he does.
He looks like Bruce.
Speaker 1 (37:47):
I can picture him throwing a football and it comeing
out like a duck ten yards away from his body
Like that's exactly Yeah, I love that. Okay, that really
recall off guard Troppy. Let's go ahead and give our
Panthers predictions.
Speaker 4 (38:00):
Yeah, so I'm going people probably not gonna be happy
with me again after the last week.
Speaker 2 (38:07):
No, that's right, you did already. Get go ahead and
tell the people if they missed it.
Speaker 4 (38:11):
So the scorre in case you missed it, I have
predicted the car the Cardinals to defeat the Panthers by
a score of twenty seven to thirteen. I think Trey
McBride and James Connor just too much for this Panthers
defense to handle.
Speaker 1 (38:24):
Okay, yeah, Cardinals, by the way, will happen on the
road of course. Sunday four oh five kick on CBS. Fitty,
you panthered up this week as well.
Speaker 5 (38:33):
I did a panthered up this morning on the Mac
and Bone Show, Give Me Carolina on the Road twenty
four twenty one.
Speaker 2 (38:40):
In the Desert.
Speaker 1 (38:42):
Panthers went twenty three seventeen. I'm panthering up as well.
I got a little bit of faith left. A lot
of my faith is in Bryce Young not having back
to back bad games. I don't have a lot of
faith in XL. We're at show me mode right now.
I do have some in JT. Sanders, especially with the
way that Juwan Johnson was able to produce against the
(39:03):
Cardinals in Week one, And it didn't really matter who
was on Johnson in coverage, he was able to produce.
And by the way, if you subscribe to this sort
of thing, Johnson didn't have that grade of a grade
on pro football focus despite being the most productive tight
end almost the most productive in Week one, which also
maybe says the defenders didn't do a great job. In
(39:24):
my opinion, I would have to go back and watch
the film. I'll be honest with you. I didn't watch
film on Cardinals Saints all last week. Not that much
of a grinder. But I did watch a lot on
the Panthers, and I do think J. T. Sanders can
get open downfield, and we've seen some of that fifty
to fifty contested catch stuff from him before. I'm hoping
that shows up in a big way and T Mac
produces again. If both of those guys can produce in
(39:45):
the passing game, you give Chewba Hubbard a healthy dose
of carries. Same thing with Rico. Maybe we give him
somewhere between I don't know, six eight carries. He's involved
a little bit more in the passing game. I'm hoping
that they can come out with a victory to hope
You're right, all right, we're panthering up baby, except for Shoppy,
who has turned full heel. That'll do it for Weston Walker.
Thanks for making us your midday listen. Keep it right
(40:07):
here for the Kyle Bailey Show alongside Smoke Ludwig. We'll
be back with you on Monday from twelve to three.
Have a great weekend.
