Speaker 1 (00:00):
Floundy, you ready to roll with the live wire?
Speaker 2 (00:02):
Here?
Speaker 3 (00:02):
You got it all ready to go. Let's do it, baby.
Time now for the live wire of flound dogs in
the West and the West. What you got Flo, We
cannot relate. Cam had to get in there. There you go, Cam.
(00:23):
We we had a couple of other cam sound bites
that we cut, right, never mind, I like that's Dan Orlovsky. Yeah,
Dan Orlovsky, never mind. Yeah, poor Dan. He caught a
straight because he didn't say anything. And then it's a
classic nope. Yeah, that's a great one.
Speaker 1 (00:39):
All right. What else you got there, floun?
Speaker 4 (00:40):
All right, Well, let's go to the head coach of
the Carolina Panthers, Dave Canalis, talking about how many reps
the starters will see on Friday.
Speaker 2 (00:48):
I think a couple of series. My hope is if
you get a good long first drive, we're done there.
You know, if it's a three and out on either side,
I'd love to give him another shot, you know, somewhere
in the if I had a you know, a perfect number,
I'd be probably eight to twelve would be like my
high hope for the group. And again, like we talked about,
it starts the night before. It's the preparation, it's the
(01:11):
morning of, it's what you eat on game day. It's
the body readiness, kind of working through those nerves before
the game and getting yourself into a great space, great
headspace to be able to perform.
Speaker 4 (01:21):
All right, So are you guys all right with the
range that he has eight to twelve snaps that he
wants to see the starters at in this game.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
Eight to twelve is fine with me. I'm one again.
Speaker 3 (01:32):
I've given you my theory on how, depending on the
situation a team is in, you have to figure out
how much preseason snaps actually do matter. I think giving
this team that skews a little younger with Bryce young
is a third year guy like Excel Cocher, second year guys,
t Mac first year guy, I think it does matter
to give those guys just a handful of snaps, which
(01:54):
I'm not too far off from that eight to twelve.
It's not very many. Two series one. It sounds like
it's going to be one series if it's successful. If
it's a failure, three and out, as Dave mentioned, he'd
probably give them another series. Other than that, I think
that's totally fine to go that route. For the first
two preseason games.
Speaker 5 (02:11):
I'm not mad at that either. I think they might
take more of the second.
Speaker 1 (02:14):
I don't know.
Speaker 5 (02:15):
We'll find out about the second preseason game. But listen,
this is Dave Canalis learning from his mistakes. The Panthers
hardly played their starters last year in the preseason, and
they came out and they looked sloppy, and they looked rusty.
And so now he's getting their guys, his guys some
preseason work. One solid series is enough, in my opinion,
(02:35):
for the first preseason game.
Speaker 4 (02:36):
What else you got flound All right, we move on
to the starting quarterback for the team, Bryce Young. He
was talking yesterday and we talked a little about this,
but I want to get vash Tiz's opinion on it too.
On the amount of targets that Ted McMillan received yesterday, I.
Speaker 6 (02:49):
Just wanted to do what we can to take advantage
with the defense gives. I have all the conference in
the world, and him and the rest of their receiving corps.
You know today, you know he probably got a few
more targets. And you know has been practices where it's
been him, it's been Adam a So whatever it may
be all the all the way down. So's I went today.
You know, we want to make sure that we can
do whatever's best for a team. Again, take average of
(03:10):
the defense gave us. So that's just how it happened
to you today.
Speaker 4 (03:13):
So what did we make of the heavy target day
yesterday for Ted McMillan out there with the practice against
the Panthers.
Speaker 3 (03:20):
Yeah, I'll yeah again vash Ti, we were talking about
it yesterday. I didn't know if they were throwing so
much tam Max Way because they're trying to bring him
up to speed quickly as a rookie, or if this
is close to how it's going to look in this
upcoming season. And that was kind of the theme question
of the day. I do think at the end of
the year t mac is going to lead this team
in targets. I think if you look at the other
(03:42):
top ten picks, all those guys usually hit one hundred targets,
whether it's a Roma Duneesay, Marvin Harrison Junior, you go
back a couple of years ago, it does seem to
be one hundred to one hundred and fifteen unless you
just are clearly far and away the best receiver on
your team in a Molik Neighbors type of situation had
a hund seventy team. Mac's not going to get to
one hundred and seventy. I do think of one hundred
(04:03):
to one hundred and fifteen threshold is something to look at,
and I also agree with Bryce. I think both things
are true. Bryce is going to try to find the
open guy. There are plenty of weapons to look at,
and while t mac might lead the team in targets,
it's going to be pretty well spread around. Is that
how you feel?
Speaker 5 (04:20):
Yeah, I think it's going to be pretty balanced. Listen,
there was a lot of red zone work, Yeah, on
the seven on seven to eleven on eleven, and that's
something when you have McMillan who was lined up against
you know, smaller DB's. We saw a lot of fades,
a lot of jump balls, and you know, a couple
of attempt at one handed catch, a lot of back
(04:41):
of the end zone attempts. That's something that you get
a guy like that who has a pretty good catch radius.
Those are the situations you want to put them in
when you're doing a lot of red zone work. You know.
That's why I think that you saw a lot of
him targeted a lot, but from an overall perspective, when
we're seeing them stream together, drives like, yeah, I think
(05:03):
that Canalis is going to spread the ball around. It's
not going to be uh an offense that is completely
surrounded around mc millan.
Speaker 1 (05:11):
Do you think so? You agree though?
Speaker 3 (05:13):
You think t MA is going to be the leader
in targets or is it going to be And is
there much of a difference for the Steven matter all
that much.
Speaker 5 (05:20):
I don't know if it matters. It really just depends
on how productive he is. But I think that I
think that he and Xavier, because listen there, Xavier had
a rough rookie season.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
They're not out on him by any means.
Speaker 5 (05:34):
So I think that they'll be pretty close in in targets.
It just it just depends on how how they're utilized.
I think that I think that Xavier's probably better with
the YAK in the YAK category, he's a strong runner.
But you know, the targets, I don't think. I think
they'll be pretty I think they'll be spread out.
Speaker 3 (05:53):
I'm sure they would love to see it their first
their last two first round picks at wide receiver. Being
your top two receivers. I'm sure they would love to
see that take place. All right, flown, hit me? I
need some more what you got?
Speaker 4 (06:03):
All right, Let's go to upp in Adams yesterday where
she was talking with Lavonte David and he was talking
about the smelling salts being banned now of course they
have changed the specific.
Speaker 1 (06:14):
Ruling on that.
Speaker 4 (06:15):
He talks about how much he uses them during games.
Speaker 7 (06:18):
As a competitive person. Right, you need something to get
you going. Some people like coffee, some people like energy, dreams,
some people like whatever it may be. For me, those
things don't get me going right away. But smelling salts,
they'll wake you up and get you going right away.
Ever since twenty twelve, my very rookie year, I needed
I needed. I had to take a smell of salt
before each drive to this day, thirteen years.
Speaker 1 (06:42):
Was there ever a time that, like you lost it,
couldn't find it, and didn't have it, They come find
me if I forget. That's how bad I needed it.
What are we going to do? I don't know what
we're gonna do.
Speaker 5 (06:52):
You know what was coming?
Speaker 1 (06:53):
The kind of shock that was shocking.
Speaker 7 (06:54):
It's crazy because I was in the pool breaking out
doing my workout, and one of the trainers came in
to say, oh, you're going to be kissed about it.
Speaker 1 (07:01):
You need to sit down, young man.
Speaker 7 (07:05):
Yes, And when they showed me that, I was kind
of like was stuck the whole day and I'm kind
of like research and seeing what's going on while they're
doing it and stuff like that.
Speaker 4 (07:12):
All right, So where do you guys stand on the
whole smelling salts controversy that's going on throughout the league
right now?
Speaker 3 (07:19):
I guess my question is because there was a clarification
that they're not banning them, but now it's bring your
own smelling salts, So now teams are not going to
give these out and instead you got to bring them
from home. Which is this just a money saver? Then
it can't be that much. I know Kyle just said
he got smelling salts for the station, which is hilarious.
By the way, we're going to be trying that. Are
(07:40):
you mad that you're gonna be missing out on that tomorrow?
Speaker 5 (07:42):
Mad? Because I just looked up smelling salts and it
might be a liability thing for the league more than
anything else. Smelling salts primarily work by irritating the nasal
and lung membranes with ammonia fumes turgering a deep inhalation reflex.
The action increases oxygen intake, which can help restore alertness
and wake someone up. So you're basically using ammonia to
(08:07):
hype you up. So from a league standpoint, if there
are long term health risk to these smelling salts, they
don't want to be liable. It's definitely not a costing.
Apparently it costs like fifteen dollars. So the league is
always cya if they're if it comes to if somebody
(08:27):
might sue them because of some type of brain damage
from the smelling salts, they're gonna say, well, you did
that to yourself.
Speaker 1 (08:33):
We don't not on us. No, it's a good point.
Speaker 3 (08:36):
I didn't see it in that small It was only
a quick excerpt though, and that's all I saw.
Speaker 1 (08:41):
But yeah, that's.
Speaker 3 (08:44):
It's hilarious that now they're all requiring these players to
bring them themselves. What do we think about instead of peds,
p e snees for smelling salts?
Speaker 1 (08:53):
Woah, fair enough.
Speaker 3 (08:55):
I the vast hi hates the corn jokes, and so
that's why I had to break it to the airwaves.
Pe he sneeze. George Kittle was the same way. By
the way we played Levonte David SoundBite. Kittle apparently uses
them on every single drug, which makes a lot more sense.
He seems like the type of guy that would be
into him. Do we know do a lot of the
Panthers players use him? I'll ask that question in the
(09:17):
locker room.
Speaker 5 (09:18):
A couple of guys on the text line say smelling
salts can also mask concussions, right, which.
Speaker 3 (09:23):
We talked about to a little bit. When Kyle came
in here. He said that he purchased smelling salts for
the station. So I know Mack and Bone are going
to be trying him out tomorrow as long as we
can get him in on time. Apparently there's a little
issue with the arrival of these smelling salts.
Speaker 1 (09:36):
But you wonder why, ye are they just.
Speaker 5 (09:40):
Go get some ammonia? Apparently it's the same thing.
Speaker 3 (09:43):
Well, did you bring any to clean the studio?
Speaker 1 (09:46):
You need it? You guys need it.
Speaker 3 (09:48):
I can smell the ammonia from Bone's computer screen that
you just wiped down. All right, floundy, what else you
got for us last time? A?
Speaker 5 (09:54):
Right?
Speaker 4 (09:54):
This is one that should be fun on the way
out Dave Rothenberg, who is a radio host in New York.
He is on the morning show Dphrow and Rothenberg for
eight eighty ESPN.
Speaker 1 (10:05):
They were at Giants camp yesterday.
Speaker 4 (10:07):
He sat down with head coach Brian Dable and he
was telling him just how committed of a fan he is.
And I would say, he's pretty committed. Take a listen.
I love the Giants, Like, no, no, I'm not.
Speaker 1 (10:18):
I've heard you're a big fan. I appreciate that from.
Speaker 8 (10:20):
From like the time I'm two years old, walked into
the den my dad was watching. I just I fell
in love with him, like Super Bowl thirty five, took
out a loan to go, like my wedding.
Speaker 9 (10:27):
Ring, said he didn't take his wife to the doctor
because the Giants were playing. Yeah, like six stuff and
then wait, wait a minute, wait a minute, Yeah, yeah,
yeah she You know what, here's the thing, Brian like,
what was it?
Speaker 3 (10:38):
Like?
Speaker 1 (10:38):
Was it, well, here's a broken bone? She had one
hundred and five. He's full of crap. He's a journalist.
This is what he does.
Speaker 8 (10:44):
They kind of make sure, yeah, exactly, okay, So no,
she she early in that morning, did she have one
hundred and five towns. She had like one hundred and two.
She had the one hundred and three was the story
or whatever somewhere in that race. And she and I said,
at like nine o'clock in the morning, I said, listen,
you don't I don't think you're well.
Speaker 1 (10:59):
I don't think you look well.
Speaker 8 (11:00):
You wanted to take it urgent cares, Like, no, no, no,
I think I'm okay, I'll battle twelve fifty. She's like,
I think maybe I should go to urgent cares. Like, listen,
you've missed your window. I'm sorry I can't take you now.
Speaker 9 (11:09):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (11:10):
Yeah, yeah, I love feeling you. I love that.
Speaker 3 (11:14):
Well.
Speaker 8 (11:14):
I think it's appropriate. I think when you're a fan,
this is what you do, right, So I'm here. I'm
here for you.
Speaker 1 (11:21):
I think that I don't know how your wife feels.
I don't think you want to get tying to get divorced.
All right, So what do we make of our radio brethren?
Speaker 4 (11:30):
Dave Rothenberg, saying he would not take his wife to
the hospital because he can't miss the Giants.
Speaker 1 (11:35):
Game, bashed how your face was. He had to pay
up after that something throughout that sound bite he had
to pay up after that one. I think you got
a ring, he got a.
Speaker 5 (11:45):
Vacation, like this is cap because he's not telling the
whole story. Like she had words for him after that,
And I always respect the fandom.
Speaker 1 (11:55):
Hell's comes first.
Speaker 3 (11:57):
Well, he said one oh five. No no, no, no, no, no,
you're telling you your captain. It's one o three one
two one three. So somewhere within that range, Oh you
mean the hospital range? Is what you mean? That's what
you mean. And yet you're refusing to take her to
the hospital. I know that Fiitty is somewhere nodding approvingly,
though I do know that somewhere Fiddy understands this rule.
(12:19):
And Vashti, I'll leave you on this with this segment,
I should say when we had him out at the
golf tournament, not this past year, but two years ago,
we had a long conversation and the topic dominated when
we had something else scheduled. When Fitty said that he
would miss the birth of his child to watch, what
was it, Flounder. Just a normal Carolina basketball game, I believe, so.
(12:41):
I think just a normal regular season probably Power five,
but Carolina playing basketball that I'm sorry if his wife
is going into labor at that time, then he's not
going to see the birth of his kid. The thing
is Vashtaile. I want to believe that. I want to
believe that he doesn't mean it and he's just putting
on for the radio airwaves.
Speaker 1 (13:02):
But I think I believe him, but he's not in
that situation. Well, there's no.
Speaker 5 (13:08):
Way there's something good, But in practice that's what I look.
Speaker 1 (13:14):
We want questioning.
Speaker 5 (13:16):
Next time I see Fiddy, I'm gonna look at him
real judging. You should look, you should always look at him.
I gotta be honest. The only look he knows for me.
He doesn't know any other look.
