Speaker 1 (00:00):
You ready for the live wire. Yes, all right, let's
do it. Let's place it down. What you got for us?
Why connect eight?
Speaker 2 (00:13):
All right, and let's go to the head coach of
the Carolina Panthers, because he was asked an interesting question
yesterday this involving the uh play that Bryce Young got
hurt on?
Speaker 3 (00:24):
Was it a tripping penalty that went uncalled?
Speaker 4 (00:27):
Live?
Speaker 5 (00:27):
It didn't look like it as you as you replayed
and replayed he put his foot out there to get
him down. That could constitute as a foul. But I
just thought live, like you know, it looked like Bryce
was just trying to get away and they kind of
tripped up on each other. So I didn't really see
any malice that way. Yeah, that's that's kind of how
I thought about it.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
Been tripping would have been a call, right, I think?
Speaker 6 (00:46):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (00:46):
I think so.
Speaker 2 (00:47):
All right, So I have seen this from some Panther
fans here is. The week has gone along, they've been
talking about this a little bit more, and I thought
it a little bit on on Sunday when I first
saw it.
Speaker 3 (00:57):
Do you guys think it was a dirty play that
he got hurt on?
Speaker 1 (01:01):
No? I don't think so.
Speaker 3 (01:02):
I mean when I looked at it.
Speaker 7 (01:03):
I didn't see anything in there that I thought could
even be deemed that way.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
But I guess I'll have to look at it, and
you should. You should.
Speaker 7 (01:10):
Okay, So you felt like it was it was tripping, Okay, okay,
all right, So.
Speaker 3 (01:14):
Well he wasn't going to get him stuck in it
was tripping.
Speaker 8 (01:18):
It depends on if you think that he was doing
it to hurt Bryce Young or if you just react
in real time. You can't get a hand on him
and so you stick your foot out there to try
to bring him down. I'm not saying that it's a
crazy dirty play. What I'm saying is there should have
been a flag. Now, to be fair, I didn't see
it real time. I guess I probably looked away from
the instant replay when it was focusing on a close
(01:40):
up there because I didn't see it real time like
you did, Flounder. But to me, when you look at
replays later on, it's pretty simple.
Speaker 7 (01:47):
Are you talking about he took his hand and slapped
the back of his heel.
Speaker 8 (01:50):
That's what you're talking about. Right foot got him with injury.
It looks like it's his foot that got the injury.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
Steps on his right foot and that's what leads to
the injury.
Speaker 8 (02:03):
We can look at the injury a little bit more.
That's what it looked like to me. So yeah, I
thought it should have been a penalty. Okay, yeah, yeah,
I see it.
Speaker 7 (02:10):
No, like I said, even in real time, No, I
didn't think that. I think that it was just kind
of a freakish thing to where when he was running
his stride his foot came down on top of Bryce's foot.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
Yeah, but you're a dirty player sometimes.
Speaker 7 (02:23):
What I was going to add on to that, ad
on to that as if he did, you know, doing
kind of malicious Hey, you know it is what it is.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
Yeah, sure I would have flagged them.
Speaker 7 (02:35):
So yeah, but I really didn't think though looking at it,
I just felt like his stride because if you look
at it, just the way Bryce's leg comes back as
his leg is extending, there's no way he could have
executed that so perfectly if it was going to be
done maliciously, and my humbling.
Speaker 1 (02:51):
Well maliciously right for me.
Speaker 8 (02:53):
I don't think he should be fined all this exorbitant
amount of money. I don't think he should be suspended.
I don't think that this is test perfect out here
trying to hurt players on purpose. I think what happened
is there was a reaction he couldn't get to him.
I don't think that's a natural foot movement. I think
what he tried to do was put his foot out
there for Bryce to trip over and or step on,
and that's how Bryce got hurt. I don't think the
(03:15):
guy meant to injure Bryce. I just think he meant
to trip him, and to be fair to the officials,
I didn't see it real time either, but I think
going back and looking at it, I think there's clearly
intent to try to bring him down, but I don't
know how malicious it was yet.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
In flashbacks, Kyle Philipowski, Oh, here we go, we had
a knockdown draft on the morning show about that?
Speaker 1 (03:36):
Oh you did?
Speaker 3 (03:37):
Oh it was, Oh it was very contentious.
Speaker 2 (03:39):
Oh yes, because eye body stuck his foot out and
tripped the student.
Speaker 1 (03:43):
You and bone Why would you do it? See?
Speaker 3 (03:45):
Yeah, it still hurts to this day.
Speaker 8 (03:47):
How many times do you think Smoke comes in here
and works and then flips us the bird? Every now
and then it's the second bird I've seen him. Yeah,
I don't know he's telling us I don't think he's
telling us we number one.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
I don't think so.
Speaker 8 (04:01):
All right, smokey, you chill out flipping me flipping, all.
Speaker 1 (04:14):
Right, what you got over there for?
Speaker 2 (04:15):
All right, let's move on to brad Izach because he
was talking today about preparing for the possibility that Bryce
Young could be out there on Sunday.
Speaker 6 (04:23):
We're pushing Bryce every day. He's actually pushed himself, so he's, uh,
he's right there alongside of us, you know, when we're
in team periods and all that he's doing the rehab
he needs to do. We're making sure that we're we're
separating those things out so he's not missing the football
the game plan piece. But yeah, absolutely, anytime you deal
with an injury, you want to make sure that the guy, uh,
(04:43):
the potential replacement is getting the physical reps needed, uh,
you know, to hit the ground running when he's he's
ready to go. So I think in a given week two,
when Bryce is the starter, and go back to last
week and then Andy gets thrust into the game, his
engagement with the material all week last week allows him
to come into the game and make some crucial plays
down the stretch to you know, solidify that win for us.
(05:06):
So I don't think there's a change in their mentality
other than they have different problems, different not problems, different
circumstances that they got to kind of handle, all right.
Speaker 2 (05:17):
So this is the perfect moment to update you on
where everything is with Bryce Young because they are out
there at practice today. Joe Person, I believe, was the
first person to tweet about it.
Speaker 3 (05:26):
No pun intended there by the way.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
He said that Bryce, the team as a whole, is
in pads today. Bryce is not, So the belief is
that he's working on the side again. With this new information,
where do you guys stand on Bryce's status for the weekend.
Does it seem more and more like we're going to
be seeing Andy out there?
Speaker 4 (05:45):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (05:45):
Like I said, I feel like that as well, there
could be some gamesmanship at play to have the Bills
have to prepare for both guys that just the thought
of Bryce Young playing occupying a little bit of their thoughts,
maybe a little bit of their game plan. Because coaches,
they know or you know, how they're wired. So if
I tell you that, hey, yeah, he might play, a
coach is never gonna win his team to not be prepared.
(06:07):
So he's going to say, in case Bryce Young plays.
Speaker 1 (06:10):
Then da da da da da da da.
Speaker 7 (06:11):
So it's going to take away from some of their preparation.
And so I think that's what's at play here, because
I just can't see uh an NFL player, especially coming
back after a week from a high ankle swring.
Speaker 8 (06:25):
You know what I did have to laugh at, even
though I understood where he was coming from, Aaron Glenn
saying he didn't want to tell us who was going
to start at QB because he didn't want to give
the other team a competitive advantage. Like, I don't think
you're going to give anybody a competitive advantage.
Speaker 1 (06:41):
Or justin field player. Okay, coach, don't give up all
the secrets. How are we ever going to beat the Jets?
Speaker 8 (06:51):
The fact that they don't have any wins? You know,
I was willing to believe it for I think probably
a few seconds that Bryce Young might suit up, but
I had been operating pretty much the same lines as
you have Wes in terms of him not being able
to play. I don't think. Yeah, I think they drug
it out a little bit longer. They're still doing it.
But gamesmanship is always going to be in question with
this sort of thing. So I do think Andy Dalton's
(07:13):
gonna play. I think we're starting to see a little
more evidence of that. And really every second, every minute,
every day that goes by the likelihood that Bryce ends
up playing, it goes it goes down in terms of
him being on the sideline not getting first team reps.
So yeah, I don't think it's gonna happen for Bryce
as much as I would like it to. I would
also rather have him fully healthy for the games beyond
(07:34):
the Buffalo Bills matchup. What else you got flound all?
Speaker 9 (07:37):
Right?
Speaker 2 (07:37):
Well, you know what, after a huge win last night
for the Hornets, we got to hear from Chuck Lee, right,
what did he.
Speaker 10 (07:43):
Like from the game? Yeah, that was a number one
coming in hot crowd was lit as I was expected.
It was fun to be back in the spectrum, and
it was also just good to have another opportunity to
play a game and try to build some better habits
on both sides of the ball. I think defensively, we
did a lot of really good things and things that
(08:03):
will continue to try to emphasize, and then there's some
areas where we can get better. You know, you have
a thirty seven point third quarter and in the second quarter,
you feel like you put them in the bonus kind
of early. So as good as I thought we were,
we can also again, like I said, get better and
then offensively, I loved the pace that we were able
to pretty much sustain, which was good.
Speaker 9 (08:22):
The ball movement was great. I think it was thirty
three assists on like forty eight made field goals, which
always means that there's a the ball's moving a lot.
And I thought, actually, in the first half, what I think,
we have five turnovers, so we were taking care of
the ball and passing the ball. And then the second
second half they did a good job of I think
turning us over forcing some turnovers. So we got to
continue to just be strong with the ball and value
(08:42):
every possession from the beginning of the game to the
end of the game.
Speaker 2 (08:45):
All right, So a strong performance from the Hornets. You
guys have been talking about it all day. But what
is the thing that surprised you the most about their
performance last night?
Speaker 3 (08:54):
What we saw from that Oh.
Speaker 7 (08:56):
Man, that's a that's a that's a good question. The
way the team has made up. So I won't say
I was completely surprised by the sisce I just go
by a three point percentage of shooting over forty five percent,
and even still, I wasn't super surprised by that, But
I do like the fact that they shot the ball
at such a high clip from three last night.
Speaker 8 (09:16):
Brandon miller drives were nice. That's something we haven't seen
a whole lot of. And the fact that he did
it in game one off of a wrist injury that
kept him out from playing basketball for a long time. Man,
was it January the last game that he played early January?
For him to come out and be aggressive, to not
show any signs of wear and tear on that wrist,
which we saw that from LaMelo for the last five years.
(09:38):
He keeps playing with that rist. He didn't last night,
but we would see it even last year. I remember
had a cleanup procedure, I believe. So that's what I
was worried about with Brandon. How long were we going
to have to wait before he really started to cook?
And I was willing to give him all the grace,
Like I was not about to get on him for
not hitting a high percentage of his three point shots,
which he didn't last night. He was two of nine,
(09:59):
But I thought he really absorbed contact. Well, I thought
that he gave us a little a couple of chicken wings, which, yeah,
don't get called for a foul. I think the officials
could have gotten him a couple of times. But it
does show that you're physical, you're aggressive, you're not shying
away from contact. And I think you had a well
balanced shot profile last night. The balance right out of
the gate from that injury you suffered last year. I
(10:20):
think that would be the most surprising thing I saw,
and it was a pleasant surprise.
Speaker 3 (10:24):
All right.
Speaker 2 (10:25):
Last one, let's go to Eli Drinkowitz, the head coach
of the Missouri Tigers. He was talking about being a
game day site for the game against Vandy this weekend
college game.
Speaker 4 (10:35):
Days coming to him, is your game for the first
time in eleven years, they've only covered miszoos six young
Willie p Right. I'm curious, does that amplify the stage
itself at all or does that change anything in preparation
or make the game even bigger?
Speaker 11 (10:47):
Is it in First Bank Stadium?
Speaker 4 (10:50):
I'm not sure where it is to see.
Speaker 11 (10:52):
That in fact anything. Then for us, we're the road team,
so we'll show up, We'll go to the visitors locker room,
We'll walk out on the field and play the game.
Whatever else they got for their fans there is up
to them, but it doesn't affect us. I don't even
think they want to talk to us.
Speaker 3 (11:07):
By college game Day's coming to Okay.
Speaker 2 (11:09):
I don't know why that Bard was recorded over there
at the end, but the reason that I played this
clip is it had nothing to do with his response there.
It's more about the fact of where game Day has
gone recently. Guy that's sitting right in front of me
right here, Smoke Ludwig. He's taking issue with some of
the spots that college Game Day has gone to this year.
Do you guys really think it's a big deal or
(11:30):
it doesn't really bother you where game Day has been
going to all these SEC sites.
Speaker 3 (11:34):
I remember when a.
Speaker 7 (11:35):
Lot of ACC people had issue with them not going
to Miami and Florida State because they went to what
was it, Alabama I think was playing a big game
that day or there was some huge SEC game the possibly,
yeah they chose to go to, but no, not really.
I don't trip off of it, especially when they go
to some of the places that they don't normally go to.
Them being there for Vanderbilt Missouri. Like, I'm cool with that.
(11:57):
Like I like them hitting up and some of these
schools getting some game they love that they normally would
not because again, you know, it's variety is the spice
of life. So if they're always going to Alabama and
Ohio State and all those places, then it would get
pretty old and stale. So for them to go places
expose us to new traditions and new things about these schools.
Speaker 1 (12:16):
I'm here for that. Yeah.
Speaker 8 (12:17):
I think part of college football that makes it to Charlotte,
come to Charlotte. Yeah, I guess what was.
Speaker 3 (12:22):
It maybe a few years down the line.
Speaker 8 (12:25):
Yeah, don't don't come to Charlotte this year. To be
honest with you, that made me sad. I hope they
come to Charlotte. I mean, I guess they kind of did.
It wasn't college a game day. But we did have
Matt Barry. You got half of Yeah, you got half half.
We did to this. We did too what we had
a couple of halves that makes it a whole right
because we got it last year with Bith Pogie.
Speaker 1 (12:42):
We got it this year.
Speaker 8 (12:42):
So okay, you know what, Thank you guys, Thank you
ESPN for representing Charlotte.
Speaker 1 (12:47):
But no, I like variety myself.
Speaker 8 (12:49):
I think what makes college football and really college sports
great is just one how many schools that you have
participating in athletics. And also I think you get to
see these campuses really get jazzed for game day being
at your school, and that's when you see all of
these great turnouts. It's when hey, they haven't been to
our school since black and then so you get really
(13:10):
jazz to go over there, and then now the crowd
is raucous, and that's exactly the kind of environment. For instance,
going to app State right right. I know Smoke doesn't
agree with that, but going to Abstat they really showed
up for that man. And so I think that as
long as you're mixing it up, as long as you're
going to schools that you know are going to deliver
via the environment, because environment is everything when it comes
(13:31):
to college football, then I'm cool with it. I haven't
had as much of a problem with some of the
destinations and the sites.
Speaker 7 (13:37):
And I was going to lastly add when you do
go to these places that haven't had it in a
long time, I had it. Ever, you know, it's a
guarantee that they're going to deliver on rolling out the
red carpet and giving the viewers and the powers that
be the right experience.
Speaker 8 (13:50):
Yeah, it still feels about the game and the atmosphere
more so than it even feels about the panel, even
with I think it's such a great marriage of the
panel being iconic and also the atmosphere still being the
thing that you tune in to see.
Speaker 1 (14:04):
For the most part. And that's why College Game Day.
Speaker 8 (14:06):
Has worked for so long. Man, it's worked for so long.
They do a good job
