Speaker 1 (00:00):
No padded practice today. It was the first padded practice yesterday.
They will pick it back up tomorrow. Dave Canalis said
it was going to be a longer padded practice, so
giving the guys a little bit, a tiny, tiny bit
of rest as much as you can get during an
NFL practice. To talk more about it, let's talk to
somebody that's covering it quite well.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
In Vashti heard.

Speaker 1 (00:19):
It's the second day that she joins us here on WFNZ,
so when we keep going back to her, but that's
what happens when you're good at your job. Follow her
on Twitter at Miss Carolina Blitz and also check out
Carolina blitz dot com. There is the get to Know
the Rookies series out there, which we'll ask her about
in just a moment. A cool video between vash Tie
and Jimmy Horn about a five six minute video of

(00:41):
a conversation between the two. Vashti, thank you so much
for the time. How are you doing.

Speaker 3 (00:46):
I'm good. I'm trying to pull off this hot out there,
but other than that, I'm doing good.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
I mean, it's got to be ridiculous, Like I know
that they're all practicing, but what was it a was
it one hundred out there again today?

Speaker 2 (00:57):
Vashti? Did it feel like it was one hundred?

Speaker 3 (00:59):
Oh? It absolutely felt like a hundred. I don't think it,
you know, I don't know because with the sunbeaming and
on that on that you know, grass, and part of
it is terf it might it might be a hundred.
But yeah, we just try to stay hydrated, fine, pocket
to shade and you know, do the best that we can. Well.

Speaker 1 (01:19):
Wait, I don't know if I've asked anybody this before.
Have you guys or you specifically, have you gotten to
see the cooling trailer at all? Or is that just
for the players? Oh, you've gotten to see the inside
of it.

Speaker 3 (01:31):
Well, yeah, yeah, we saw the inside of it when
they first got it and they gave us a tour
of it. But as far as being able to utilize
it as media members, absolutely not come. I just stand
sometimes it's it's shaded over there, so sometimes I stand
on the outside and just get a cool breathe. As
folks to going in and out, but that's about it.

(01:54):
We're not We're not privileged enough to go inside.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
All right.

Speaker 4 (01:57):
So, as opposed to what you saw last year, what
are your early impressions of how this team looks so far, It's.

Speaker 3 (02:04):
It's still very early, only one paddent practice. I think offensively,
there seems to be a level of comfortability that Bryce
has and and that's to be expected. You know, finally
has some continuity at coach, continuity with the playbook, and

(02:27):
and he looked and even all of the time this
offseason that he spent with his receivers. So they seem
to have a have a good, you know, a geil
with them. Bryce they throw a pick today to shockness waits,
but that's to be expected. I'm not I'm not you know,

(02:47):
hitting the panic button yet. As far as on the
defensive side of the ball, today specifically was a rest
day for uh Mike Jack and Adam Thaling. I think
tomorrow after tomorrow and that longer padded practice, Canalo said
they'll get more sustained drives in during the team period.

(03:08):
We'll kind of see what it's looking like along that
defensive line and in the trenches. I haven't really had
an opportunity to really look closely at that, but I
think I think we'll find that out pretty quickly with
the more paddent practices that we're able to attend.

Speaker 2 (03:26):
Outside of Bryce Young.

Speaker 4 (03:27):
What's like the number one storyline for you that you're
looking to see that can help you answer some questions.

Speaker 3 (03:34):
Well, you know, everybody's talking about Hunter Renfro. If you
had asked me during OTAs if Hunter Renfro was going
to make the team out, I say, not a chance
at hell. I just wasn't. He looked slow to me.
He looked like he looked like a guy who hadn't
played football in you know, over a years. I don't

(03:54):
know what he did between the end of OTAs and
the starter training camp, but he looks It looks like
he's going to compete with David Moore for that last
spot on the fifty three. That's one of the story
lines that pass rushing duo of Nicked Sport and Prince
Leaton Vanmi Yellen. I like those guys. There seemed to

(04:14):
be a fun group off the field, but I also
think that they are going to be a duo that
produces for the Panthers on the field at a high
level in the next few years.

Speaker 1 (04:27):
Best I heard joining us on Western Walker Sports Radio
ninety two seven w f n Z. Yeah, let's talk
a little bit about Princelely because in the a couple
of practices without pads, we saw that Princelely got to
Bryce Young. We had the swat gate if you will,
you know, film review said, Okay, Princeley maybe wasn't trying
to hurt Bryce as much as he you know, almost did,
but so be it. He got to Bryce Young on

(04:49):
a couple of those reps against Ikeyakwanyu. How much would
we be taking away from what Princelely has done so
far in what you even admitted to being a very
early portion of training.

Speaker 2 (04:58):
Camp fash High.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
Yeah, I think and and even he said it our
our gets to know the rookies with him will drop tomorrow.
I'd asked him about that rep, and you know, it's
no knock against Icky, and I think it's important to
remember they were playing without pads, so that's gonna benefit
your pass rusher anyway, because you know, as an as
an offensive lineman, you're not able to really put your

(05:23):
hands on a guy who doesn't have pads on. So
I he got, he got, and I think it was
he was with second team, he got around the edge
and which on what would have been a sack running
with the second team today against Andy Dalton. He just
has a he has a level of speed to him,
and he has a chip on his shoulder because he

(05:46):
feels like he is a first round talent. But yeah,
I think I think that we'll see more of those
battles as training camp progresses and as we have more
padded practices. Also, I'll be looking to see how he
looks going up against in these dort practices. I mean,
the one with the Browns is just next week, so

(06:06):
I'll be watching those. But but yeah, I mean, from
what I've seen, he has that that speed coming off
the edge that could give tackles a problem.

Speaker 1 (06:17):
Okay, so we need to talk about the teas of
the getting to know the rookies part too, because you
put out a little thirty second clip of your conversation
with Princely, Umamiellen. Princelely talked about growing up with five brothers,
not talking to a whole lot of women in his
life because he didn't have any sisters and he's trying
to get better at it, and so he told you
his same years.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
There you go.

Speaker 1 (06:37):
So he told you in the clip that he's been
listening to R and B to try to talk to
women a little bit better, So he listened to Luther
Van Dross and fash tied when he said he was
listening to Donell Jones, specifically where I Want to Be.

Speaker 2 (06:51):
I just I don't think that's the song.

Speaker 1 (06:54):
Wes and I talked about songs with hilarious premises before,
and if the way that Prince thinks he's going to
speak to women better is by listening to a song
about a guy that wants to go around and mess
with other women a lot more.

Speaker 2 (07:07):
But but no, I'll be back, I'll be back. I
need better song.

Speaker 1 (07:11):
Did you give him some advice at least in this
conversation before you put it out there on key Pulitzen
dot com.

Speaker 3 (07:18):
I really, I really just said, you gotta have more finanse.
He has to work on it, you know, Donelle Jones.
I think obviously Where I Want to Be was his
probably hottest songs, but he has some some other cuts
that are pretty good. Surety want to ride with me?
I don't know if y'all know what I'm talking about
for sure, but there are some other cuts that he

(07:39):
has that you know, if he If Princeley is trying
to be a little smooth Donell Jones, isn't that bad?
I had some I had somebody in my mention to
say that, you know, maybe he needs a little bit
to some Drew Hill, some boys, the men. Those are
all good suggestions as well. And then you know, I
don't know, maybe he needs to talk to some aunties.

(08:01):
Aunties always give good advice about this kind of stuff.

Speaker 2 (08:05):
Well, it's just the song. We've had this conversation about
hilarious presence. It's the one.

Speaker 1 (08:08):
It's he chooses, the one where it's like, hey, I'm
gonna go mess around a lot, yeah, but then I'll
come back and talk.

Speaker 2 (08:15):
I just don't know if that well. So maybe it's.

Speaker 4 (08:17):
Apropos for him being a young NFL player and he
just needs to keep it real with the ladies and say, listen, Babby,
you're not gonna be the only one, okay, And as
long as you can deal with that, we can make
it happen. Because I know there'll be a lot of
women who would be willing to take that type of
role for him. So I think it might not be
a bad song choice for the.

Speaker 3 (08:34):
Young point with that's a good point, Like it is,
it is a song that could show that keeping it
real with the ladies is the best way to avoid drama.

Speaker 4 (08:45):
This is one hundred percent how you have to operate.
I'm too loyal at no doubt about it. All right,
As so I want to know what are your uh
what have you seen so far? How do you see
this wide receiver room shaking out? Because you talked about
how Hunter Renfro has a chance to be that guy
that is the last receiver, and so how do you
see it shaking out in that room?

Speaker 3 (09:06):
The question is, and you know, we've kind of talked
up we've talked about this of course as media members
behind the scenes. You know, do the Panthers key six
wide receivers on the fifty three? Do they keep seven
wide receivers? I don't see them keeping seven wide receivers,
but that that could be the case. But you know

(09:27):
it's I think that you know, you got Xavier, you
got t Max, you have Seeling, those are your lots.
You have Cooker who is pretty much solidified. You have
Jimmy Horn, who I think makes the fifty three because
he adds an element of of just vertical speed. And

(09:49):
then you've got that sixth spot, and you have a
lot of people competing for that spot, and I think,
you know, you got Hunter and Fro, and you got
David Moore. I think a lot of people are penciling
in or have on that line where they would have
to select, and Dave canal Is basically said that those
last few spots are gonna come down to guys who
can contribute on special teams as well. We saw Hunter Renfro,

(10:13):
you know, fielding kickoffs and working on special teams, which
I don't know if he's really had that role on
previous teams in the league. So he's doing whatever he
needs to do to try to make the squad. And
I think it's gonna be a battle between those two
guys that'll probably come down to that last preseason game.

Speaker 2 (10:35):
Are you nervous at all about Deck Brown in his return?

Speaker 3 (10:39):
No? Matter of fact. In his first practice where he
was in practice and we actually talked to him afterwards,
I remember looking at him was like, for us moving
around and I don't know what I've torn my ACL
and I've had like lower body injuries and sometimes it
takes a while just to get the confidence back. He

(11:00):
moving around like he looks fluid in his movement although
he's wearing a knee brace. He looked very fluent, very still,
very explosive. I'm not concerned about him being one hundred
percent and ready by the time the season starts fast.

Speaker 1 (11:16):
I heard joining us here on Western Walker covering Panthers
training camp Sports Radio ninety two seven WFNZ FASHTEI were
seeing a lot of random names pop up in the secondary.
Shamar Bartholomew had a good day today. We heard about
Demini richardson early last week once they started to take
the practice field. Who are some of the names you
feel like are for real or just some of the
names that keep popping up in your mind in terms

(11:37):
of who's performing in the secondary.

Speaker 3 (11:40):
Yeah, I mean those three, those two are. Bartholomew had
a day today and you know he took advantage of
the fact that j. C. Horn and Mike Jack had
rest days. Showfnith Wade is another guy who was looking
another young guy who was looking good in training camps.
So they I think that those those those second stringers

(12:03):
are playing with a real edge to them and it's
and it's gonna benefit them. But those are the names
that that have kind of that have stuck out. Even Thornton,
who got. I posted the one on one between him
and Jalen Poker yesterday and where Coker just burned him.
And then today he makes the play on the ball
where he knocks out what would have been a touchdown

(12:26):
on second teams from Andy Dalton backing coverage in the
end zone. So the the defense and the secondary definitely
won today during those during those team periods without pass,
So those guys that are flashing and making the most
of additional reps that they're getting when the Vets are
having a respage.

Speaker 1 (12:48):
Last question, what's it like out there without fans? Do
you miss him? Is it is it different covering the
team without their presidence? What's it like out there?

Speaker 3 (12:57):
Yeah? I don't like it without fans. This is it
really is just like a it's a regular practice. I
think the fans brought a certain amount of juice, a
certain amount of excitement, even like after play, fans with cheer,
you know, just it's just it was, it's just a
vibe that training camp as with fans that that is meant.

(13:19):
I can't even lie. There aren't even many people outside
trying to get autographs. I thought that there would be
more fans at least trying to catch autographs after practice,
but that hasn't been the case really, So I think
the players missed the fans. I know as a media member,
I missed the juice that the fans bring. So so yeah,

(13:42):
it's weird for sure.

Speaker 1 (13:44):
Okay, I this is really the last question because we
have to play the vash timeline. Of course, we got
to go and look at fash tied Twitter timeline and
see she's been tweeting out here, and so this one's easy.

Speaker 2 (13:57):
Fash Tied.

Speaker 1 (13:58):
You just put UGK the soundtrack to that was just
a couple of days ago. I liked it. We love
UGK around here. I just want to know what was
on the playlist. Were you listening to an album? What
was on the playlist for UGK?

Speaker 3 (14:08):
No, I have a playlist that is basically called just
basically has UGK type music on it. And if you know,
you know, And so it was Sunday, I was going
to be outside and like I was just it was
a heavy on the UGK type thing. You know, what

(14:29):
do we play pimping? Ain't no illusion? Can I say
that on the air?

Speaker 2 (14:33):
You know, I don't know if we've ever attempted it.
You know what you just did. You just did. It's okay,
we didn't drop it.

Speaker 3 (14:39):
Look at me, international players and those type of things.
You know. If you know UGK, you know, you know.

Speaker 1 (14:45):
The vibe we've talked about. We've talked about all time
party songs before mine comes from UGK. If you give
me the OS and I need to play one party song,
just my own personal that don't really care what everybody
else thinks. I need to play it. Mine's get Road.
I'm putting on get thrown and that's my number one.
What's your party song? Let's go around the Let's go

(15:06):
around the table here Wes and then fast type party song?

Speaker 4 (15:10):
No, just anywhere? Oh man, that's tough coming back to
me little bit. You have something that comes to mind.

Speaker 2 (15:16):
I hear you the ox let me on the spot.
I know, I know.

Speaker 1 (15:20):
I'm sorry. It's just it got me. It got me
thinking a little bit about it. I had an easy answer,
and so it probably isn't fair to you guys. I
just wanted to know what songs would come to mind.

Speaker 4 (15:29):
Man, that's tough. I'm cycling circling through the brain. I
froze everybody.

Speaker 2 (15:33):
I'm sorry.

Speaker 4 (15:34):
You definitely did I'm thinking some type of future song
or man, you got me.

Speaker 1 (15:40):
I'm sorry, Man, I didn't. I didn't know it was
you might talk me through it fast high? Can you
talk me through it before we ended today? And any
other song that comes to mind.

Speaker 3 (15:48):
I mean, I'm really a mood based girly, so my
stuff is based on how I'm feeling. I'll probably no,
I can't even give one thing because it depends on
my mood going in.

Speaker 4 (16:02):
Give me, give me the all timers, Okay, give me
salt shake of ying yangs. We're getting a stattic because
that rings off no matter what crowd. Yet, I love
sawt shaking, man, that was my favorite. Get low was dope,
but that's the low hanging for I love thought shaking.

Speaker 1 (16:16):
Those are wedding classics that you just dope. Yeah, those
are getting played.

Speaker 3 (16:20):
I really can't go wrong with.

Speaker 4 (16:23):
Unless they SeaWorld like they were just a couple of
weeks ago, and that was terrible.

Speaker 1 (16:30):
That was off all that cussing and stuff in the
crowd with the baby SeaWorld doing. Somebody covers Shambo's ears.
It's fash I heard joining us here on Weston Walker
Sports Radio ninety two seven.

Speaker 2 (16:41):
W f n Z.

Speaker 1 (16:42):
Go to Carolina blitz dot com and awesome get to
know the Rookie series. Great stuff and Jimmy Horn, I
know it's going to be great with Princell. You man
me yelling if the t's has anything to do with it.
And then of course go follow vash Tie on Twitter,
Miss MZ Carolina Blitz and keep blitzing.

Speaker 2 (16:56):
She does a great job.

Speaker 1 (16:57):
