Speaker 1 (00:09):
Sports Radio ninety two seven wfn Z. Good Friday morning, Charlotte.
You don't hear music for the MACKI and Bone Show.
You don't hear music for Charlotte Sports Today. You will
hear Kyle Bailey's music this afternoon at three pm. You
hear the music of the young guns. We're filling in
today or really just I guess guest hosting today from
(00:29):
eight to twelve Mack and Bone. They're being lazy. They're
taking another day off for the holiday. No Charlotte Sports
Today on from ten to twelve. But Colin Hoggard not
being lazy. He's earned a day off. So that's why
we're here from you, with you from eight up until noon,
four hours of sports talk coming your way. We're gonna
(00:50):
talk a lot of panthers, a lot of college football,
little college basketball. I got a treat for sharp as well.
But we're gonna start with some Thanksgiving Day recap. I'm
your host, Josh Marlow to am, I right, is Anthony Flounder,
pag Nada up on time? Prompt ready to go? And
then behind the board as Aaron Shroppy Shropshire men, Happy Thanksgiving,
(01:15):
Happy belated Thanksgiving, I hope you'all all had a great holiday.
Mine was rather underwhelming.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
I wonder why, well, I mean, you go go ahead
and go go in. I mean, you can just lead
off with we don't even have to talk yet about
the NFL games. You could just lead off with the
reason why your Thanksgiving was underwhelming.
Speaker 1 (01:34):
When you get to Thanksgiving dinner and you're looking at
the spread of food, I think you expect two things
to be on the table.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
Ah, I did not think you would criticize the spread.
Speaker 1 (01:47):
Carolina getting their ass kicked in basketball was a problem,
and it ruined it.
Speaker 3 (01:51):
It only ruined my day.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
But when I go to go make my plate, there's
no deviled X at Thanksgiving dinner?
Speaker 3 (01:59):
What are we doing?
Speaker 2 (02:01):
Like? I could take her? I mean I do not
like deviled eggs. Yeah, that actually wouldn't bother me at all.
Speaker 4 (02:07):
Whenever you said the problem, whenever we were here before the
show started and you said, you know, in the side studio,
the two items that were missing from your Thanksgiving, those
are two items I could totally do with that, the
first one being the deviled eggs and second only pumpkin pie.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
I no, not really know, Okay.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
But whenever you're looking at Thanksgiving a Mealeah, like you
expect that to be on the table for you to
when you put your plate together.
Speaker 3 (02:30):
You don't have to like it, but never once has
been on the table.
Speaker 1 (02:35):
Okay, Thanksgiving, you're you're Italian, y'all do things a little
bit different from a Southerners. Not seeing deviled eggs and
not seeing pumpkin pie. Yeah, was really heartbreaking, really disappointing.
And I should have known then what I was going
to be in for, because from four point thirty to
six forty five, my god, I mean, just an absolute
waste of time. I thought by becoming by not becoming
(02:57):
a cow or not being a cowboy fan anymore, I'd
get to enjoy my holiday.
Speaker 3 (03:01):
Well, you should have been a cowboy fan yesterday.
Speaker 1 (03:04):
Instead, I get to watch my favorite team in sports
just get their ass kicked by a team and a
coach that I hate. So Thanksgiving twenty twenty five, big
old bigma to you.
Speaker 3 (03:15):
I'm am ready for Christmas. Yeah the minutes I've heard
that one. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (03:20):
See, that's why you just really shouldn't let sports affect
you that much, especially on a holiday. Man, That's that's
really not that I mean it's it's Thanksgiving.
Speaker 3 (03:29):
Man.
Speaker 4 (03:29):
What matters is see, I think it's more concerning that
you leave your family to go watch a Carolina basketball
game on Thanksgiving.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
Oh man, wow, okay, but Trump, I don't expect you
to watch the UNC basketball game.
Speaker 3 (03:43):
Yeah I was. I was with my family, so I
did so. Yeah, I was locked in.
Speaker 1 (03:47):
So if they would have played well, would have been
I probably would have been okay. They did not play well,
so man, I was not okay. There was a lot
and I mean a lot of cussing after. You know,
we had a great I had a great time with
my family. We gathered around. We like to sing music together.
(04:08):
We sung a lot of great music. Some of it
was very heartfelt, very touching, and then about an hour
and a half later, a lot of a lot of
four letter words I can't repeat on the radio.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
So, and the music that's being sung, ladies and gentlemen,
is very religious music. So I mean this was just
a complete one eighty I mean just a complete turn
of face.
Speaker 3 (04:30):
So you're not singing my grandma go out run over
by a reindeer and.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
No, we were singing like, how great thou art victory
in Jesus? Oh, wow, and I'm sitting there singing every word,
maybe raising my hand, doing all that type of thing,
and then an.
Speaker 2 (04:44):
Hour later saying, you know what, forgive me God was
reminded why I hate this team, I in fact need
Jesus seven O four five seven ninety six ten.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
We want to hear from you guys on the faint
dual text line. I want to hear how your Thanksgiving
holiday went clutching for girls rights in why didn't you
bring some deviled eggs? You wan grateful? Sob that's you
know what, that's a great point. I was given a
fair point. I brought what I was asked to bring. Okay,
I was asked to bring King Hawaiian's dinner rolls.
Speaker 3 (05:13):
Well, dude, that's contributing a lot.
Speaker 1 (05:15):
Hey, that's what I was told to bring. I tracked
them down. I had to go to three stores on
Wednesday night to find them.
Speaker 3 (05:23):
I found them.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
Well, yeah, because you waited until Wednesday night, that's the problem.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
It was okay, Well, Monday night, Monday night football I was.
I was at the station till eleven o'clock.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
Okay, Tuesday, perfect day, Yeah, Tuesday, I don't go to
the grocery store on Tuesdays. You barely go to the
I don't go to the store on Tuesdays. Why what's
wrong with Tuesdays? Do they not have uh, the special
they don't have the deals?
Speaker 3 (05:45):
Yeah, and then.
Speaker 2 (05:46):
Wednesday, after walking back and forth to the doghouse, I
mean walk inside the stores, but you looked like death.
Speaker 1 (05:55):
The problem was was that we were all given assignments
of what to ring.
Speaker 2 (06:00):
Okay, so who was supposed to bring the deviled eggs?
Nobody what you so go keep? So there you go.
Speaker 3 (06:06):
Yeah, but I wasn't. I wasn't present when the list
I put together.
Speaker 1 (06:10):
Okay, So when when my uncle finally owned up to
one and tell anybody to bring deviled eggs, guess who's
in charge of the list next year for Thanksgiving?
Speaker 2 (06:21):
Oh, have fun with that, because you're gonna forget something
and then people are going to be mad at you.
Speaker 1 (06:25):
Okay, but I can forget the custard pie that my
that my aunt brought, or sweet potato bread pudding that
my other aunt brought, like, ah, that I can do
without that in the name of having deviled eggs. So
I called my dad when I left because they were
doing the diabolical thing and eating Thanksgiving dinner at four
(06:46):
thirty and I told him they're coming on Sunday to
visit family. I said, you gotta bring deviled eggs, you
got to bring pumpkin pie.
Speaker 3 (06:52):
A little fit.
Speaker 2 (06:53):
He must have been fired up about that that they
were eating at four thirty.
Speaker 3 (06:57):
And I don't know.
Speaker 1 (06:57):
I got a victory dance from after the Cowboys win yesterday.
Speaker 3 (07:00):
What Yeah, he told me. If the Cowboys, why is.
Speaker 2 (07:03):
Everybody else dancing but the people that are supposed to
be dancing. I don't understand what's going on here, because
because we had the dance from nine or West early
in the week that was that was shameful, there's no
doubt about that. And then now we've got little Fitty
sending in dance videos.
Speaker 3 (07:22):
Oh boy, oh boy. Rop uh.
Speaker 4 (07:26):
It is a hell of a trend that has started
to where everyone else except the Panthers do it do
a victory dance.
Speaker 3 (07:32):
To be fair, we have dance till Monday. Till Monday.
You really believe that?
Speaker 2 (07:38):
Look at panther flound Yeah no, no, maybe not, maybe not,
I know, probably saving the score prediction for a little
bit later in the show.
Speaker 1 (07:47):
It's yourself. Yeah, yeah, I know. I know you should
do it two hours. You gotta got four hours today.
I know it's a double the time. Hopefully you don't
need a doctor when we're done. Wow, all right, you're
proud of yourself for that one, aren't you. I'm always
proud of myself. Let's talk things given day football, shall we.
Speaker 3 (08:04):
Let's do it.
Speaker 1 (08:05):
Some people were billing it as the greatest slate ever,
just with how a massive the first two games were.
You get Burrow back for the nightcap, and that was
a real big game. Because now you look at it,
the Bengals at four and four and eight, or there's
two games out of first place.
Speaker 3 (08:21):
Oh, I love it. I love it.
Speaker 1 (08:22):
May have a legitimate shot to at least make things
interesting down the stretch. But let's go in chronological order.
Packers meet the Lions to to start the day. Are
the Packers the most difficult team in the NFC to
figure out?
Speaker 2 (08:37):
No?
Speaker 3 (08:37):
No, it's the Panthers, you think so. I think it's
the Packers.
Speaker 2 (08:41):
I mean just in general, like they're an eight three
and one football team and.
Speaker 3 (08:45):
They played yesterday.
Speaker 1 (08:47):
Yeah, if they were to win the if they were
to go to the Super Bowl, wouldn't be surprised because
Jordan Love was the best he's been all year.
Speaker 2 (08:55):
There's your key, right there, is what does Jordan Love
look like every time that they take the field, because
there's no consistency to his game. If he was a
consistent quarterback, then we would be talking about this team
as probably the best in the NFC. But as we
sit here right now, I think based off of what
we've seen this year, and this is not Jordan Love's
(09:18):
fault that you know, Matthew Stafford has decided that he's
turning the clock back and all of a sudden he's
going to put up a career year. But I mean,
I think they would be right there in the conversation
as I look at them. I mean, I don't even
think they're as consistent as Philly, and I don't think
Philly is all that consistent either.
Speaker 3 (09:38):
Yeah, Philly can do two things. But I trust them more.
Speaker 2 (09:42):
And I guess the part of that is because they
you know, of course, won they're coming off a super
Bowl title. But I do think that going into where
you know, if the playoffs started today, you would probably
have the Packers third on the list. But still there
is a chance that if you see the type of
team that you saw yesterday.
Speaker 3 (10:02):
They can beat just about anybody in the NFC.
Speaker 1 (10:04):
Yeah, I just you know, and Trump, maybe you have
a point because you know, we watched the Panthers more closely,
But I mean the Packers play in primetime pretty frequently.
They're playing, you know, in national TV windows and I
don't know which version of Green.
Speaker 3 (10:18):
Bay I'm gonna tune in to watch now.
Speaker 1 (10:21):
And yesterday I watched a team that I was watching
Jordan Love like that that passed the man on fourth
down to effectively end the game and win the game.
Like was just like I think the parts like the
prototypical Jordan Love play where you're sitting there and like
I'm even saying just throw it away because there's nothing there.
Speaker 3 (10:38):
He holds it, he holds it, he holds it.
Speaker 1 (10:40):
That watch here finally gets across the middle of the
field and he makes a play. Like that's a team
that could, you know, first off, win the NFC North,
which because I don't trust the Bears until the Bears
do it, I'm gonna trust Green Bay to do it.
But when they play to that level, shop, I think
they're as good as anyone in the NFC. But as
we've seen against games like against Carolina and others, there's
certainly times they play down of their competition.
Speaker 4 (11:02):
Yeah, I think that's their biggest flaw. I think whenever
they're playing good teams, you're gonna see the Packers at
their best. Whenever they play guys or teams that are
scraping the bottom of the barrel, I think they've shown
you what you're gonna get out of those games.
Speaker 3 (11:14):
So it's a it's a bit weird. I think.
Speaker 4 (11:17):
I do think the Panthers are kind of doing the
same thing this year. Though you look at the one
game we thought they were supposed to win, one of
their worst games, you look at some of the tougher
games on their schedule. You know, all of the Packers game,
it's not you know, record breaking with offensively, but it's
it's still a game that they were able to, you know,
complete their game plan and get the win. So I think,
(11:39):
you know, that's that's been the interesting part about Carolina
is that you know, against the Jets, against the Saints,
they play down to their opponent, but they can also
play up to their opponent as well, And I think
that's exactly what you're seeing out of the Packers this
year is that the games you think they should have
taken care of with with relative ease, you know, I'll
you know, with with the Browns and and Carol on it,
(12:00):
that's the game that they drop. But whenever they're playing
a high caliber, you know, football team, that's when you
look and you say, wow, yeah, this is the Packers
team that we thought we'd see throughout the entire season.
Speaker 1 (12:10):
Two more things on Packers' lines and we'll move on
to Cowboys and Chiefs. I get the same feeling I
think watching Jordan Love I get sometimes with Bryce Young,
where I think sometimes is his inconsistent play as much
as it is him individually. I do think Matt Lafleur,
who's his play caller, sometimes is a big reason why
he looks the way that he looks, you know how
(12:31):
I fear about Dave Canalis and Bryce Young where I
come away more whenever Bryce doesn't play great, and not
always excusing Bryce from it, but thinking that the play
calling was just as big as an issue as why
he wasn't playing up to par.
Speaker 3 (12:45):
Also, Tom Brady's gotten really good at this thing.
Speaker 1 (12:49):
Like I don't know what Bro did in the offseason
but he's quietly become I'm not saying he's the best.
Speaker 3 (12:55):
I prefer Greg Olsen over him. I still think Tony
Romo is.
Speaker 1 (12:59):
Better than him, but he definitely sounded the part as
a big time broadcaster yesterday afternoon.
Speaker 4 (13:05):
About those classes he was wearing pregame though, Yeah, you're
looking pretty fresh. Uh, you know, as much as Tom
Brady might have had a good week this week, little
slip up last week that we will gloss right over.
But oh geez, but yeah, you know, Tom, It's just
it's just like with anything, you know, practice makes perfect.
The more reps he has in the broadcast booth, the
better he's gonna get.
Speaker 3 (13:26):
Well, that's not true.
Speaker 1 (13:27):
There are some people that have been doing it for
quite some time that aren't good at it.
Speaker 3 (13:30):
That's in your opinion, which is a lot of people.
Speaker 4 (13:34):
So I'm just saying in general, the reason he's getting
better is because he's doing it more and more. But yeah,
I definitely think that, you know, should Greg Olsen, to
my opinion, still have the number one spot for for Fox. Yes,
But I understand business wise why you'd want to have
the name Tom Brady on all your quote unquote biggest
games of the year. I think it makes sense and
(13:55):
it's good to see him growing in that in that role.
Speaker 1 (13:59):
By the way, the Lions, I don't think they're going
to make the playoffs. No, I don't think they are either,
because they've.
Speaker 2 (14:04):
Got Cowboys, Rams on the road, Steelers at home, Vikings
on the road, and Bears on the road to close
out the season. And I don't think on the surface
you should be shocked. I mean, this was because you
had a lot of people were picking to make the
Super Bowl that was ignorant.
Speaker 1 (14:22):
You lost both of your coordinators that were a real
big part of what they were, what they built up to.
Speaker 3 (14:27):
Last year being fifteen and two.
Speaker 1 (14:29):
And like Dan Campbell, correct me if I'm wrong, this
is the first time he's ever been a play caller
because what he had tight ends coach for he got
the head coaching job with the Saints or with the Lions.
Speaker 3 (14:39):
I believe. I believe that's right.
Speaker 1 (14:41):
And whenever he was the interim for the Miami Dolphins
back in the day, I don't think he called plays
there either. So you you bring in a new play caller,
but then in the middle of the season he gets
stripped to play calling duties. For Dan Campbell, who I
think is not a good job, but he's just I mean,
he's learning just as much as any went on that
staff in terms of how to be a play caller.
(15:03):
So I hate it because I've I've I've enjoyed Detroit
being good. I think Jared Goff's like second act in
the NFL has been really fun to watch. But that
schedule what suggests are not going to the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (15:15):
Well, and that's the thing too.
Speaker 4 (15:16):
Last year was their window to win and they just
got so unlucky with all the injuries that piled up
at the end of at the end of their season
to where it's just it was just bad luck. Detroit
got a hit with the Detroit curse to where everything
looked like it was going all right finally and then
your team falls apart dude injury and you know, and
(15:36):
then obviously you go fifteen and two, you lose your
two coordinators. I mean, it's gonna be hard to bounce back.
So it feels like it feels like last year was
supposed to be their year if nothing went you know,
wrong on the injury side of things. You know, I
would have loved to have seen the Lions win a
Super Bowl that that franchise and that fan base deserves.
Speaker 3 (15:53):
It.
Speaker 4 (15:54):
Definitely would have preferred to see the Lions went over
the Eagles last year, But here we are, and yeah,
I would I think the Eagles, I mean the Lions
get two more wins. I think over the Steelers and
the Vikings, I think those two they can win. But
other than that, yeah, they're gonna have a tough road
to try to make a playoff.
Speaker 1 (16:12):
Push stat Picker writes in on the fandual text line,
did you'll listen to the broadcast he called plays in
year two?
Speaker 3 (16:19):
Trump?
Speaker 1 (16:20):
If you can double check that, I'd like to know
if that's right or not. I don't remember him being
their play caller, But maybe I don't remember that either.
Maybe it was a situation where kind of, like, you know,
remember when Joe Brady got all the love at LSU
for being the passing game coordinator. Maybe Ben Johnson was
the one that was putting in the game plan.
Speaker 3 (16:39):
I got it? Did he?
Speaker 4 (16:41):
This is not the first time Campbell has made this
change to play caller. He also assumed to play calling
responsibilities during the twenty twenty one season.
Speaker 3 (16:49):
Interesting, ok, okay, he did all right?
Speaker 2 (16:52):
That was with Ben Johnson on staff, or maybe that
was before Ben Johnson got there, and so he yeah, okay,
well that makes a little more sense.
Speaker 1 (17:01):
We'll get the research team on it. While we're in
the commercial break, Whe's drum, which is where we're going
next week. Come back, we'll continue to talk about all
the Thanksgiving Day action. Big win for the Cowboys, big
win for the Bengals, two Tobacco road schools. We're in
action on college basketball, and then we'll turn our attention
to some Panthers news and notes that's coming up next
(17:22):
on the Young Guns. You're listening to Sports Radio ninety
two seven w FNZA. Welcome back to Charlotte or not
Charlotte Sports Today.
Speaker 3 (17:39):
It's the Young Days. There's a part of it.
Speaker 1 (17:41):
There's a part of that show here, baby. Yeah, we
got we got one half of the show, all right.
So we're coming back from break. We gear the rejoining
of Smoke, promoing today's Kyle Bailey Show, which will be
hosted by William Eugene polotchik Oh. Everyone at the station
has a Willie impression. Yeah, where did what do you
(18:02):
think of smokes? Willy p impression?
Speaker 2 (18:04):
Because it's the most inaccurate, but at the same time
maybe the most funny of the impressions. Uh, Willy is
going to be incredibly fired up because now this is
the second straight time that he has come in and
hosted a show where the boardop has done a promo,
and he's done it.
Speaker 3 (18:21):
In his voice. Seriously, exactly.
Speaker 1 (18:24):
You noticed how yesterday we did not get a single
photo from Willie about his Thanksgiving Day spread.
Speaker 2 (18:31):
I'm concerned did he get taken out by this year's Thanksgiving?
Speaker 4 (18:35):
Like?
Speaker 3 (18:36):
Is the man still with us?
Speaker 2 (18:37):
Is?
Speaker 3 (18:38):
I think that the important question?
Speaker 1 (18:40):
Yeah, because I mean I was waiting all day because usually,
like I mean, this is like, this is his holiday man,
Like he used to be in the kitchen.
Speaker 2 (18:48):
He gets to be in there cooking. Oh you know what?
And maybe the turkey was dry? Oh man, and he
didn't want to show it off? Are we thinking it
only thinking like like Clark Riswold type dry.
Speaker 3 (19:04):
Where you're literally I mean, I hope not for his
family's sake.
Speaker 1 (19:09):
Yeah, But I mean then again, this this is Willy
he also, I mean maybe they went like the right
where they went and got like the gym and nick spread,
like they just didn't want to cook this year. He
didn't want to show off someone else's cooking. I mean,
this is a very insecure main when it comes to
his cooking capabilities, no stop it. So but I was
disappointed because usually he's in his little you know, three
(19:31):
quarter zip up and he's got his he's cheesing, and
he's sitting there thinking about how thankful he is for
for Bram Bronico. But we did not get a single
thing from Willie on Thanksgiving, and I was really disappointed
in that. But Smoke's impression wildly inaccurate, wildly hilarious, unlike
(19:52):
his Mac Brown impression, which is both not accurate and
not funny. See, I think I think it's pretty accurate.
I think he he actually has a pretty accurate impression.
Speaker 3 (20:04):
Do I find it funny?
Speaker 2 (20:06):
Not really, But I think that's because I'm a Tarial fan.
If I wasn't, then I think that I would find
it pretty funny as well.
Speaker 3 (20:13):
But I will push back. I think it is pretty accurate,
to be honest with you, all.
Speaker 1 (20:19):
Right, Well, reasonable minds can differ, and that's what we're
gonna do when it comes to smokes impressions. Let's put
the finishing touches up on the Thanksgiving Day Action the
four thirty game, best game of the day. Dallas beats
Kansas City. Cowboys have quietly won three in a row.
They're now above five hundred, and you were mentioning that
you don't think the Lions are going to the postseason.
(20:41):
The Chiefs are five hundred, and their schedule down the
stretch puts them in a situation where they're gonna have
to probably win out. I know Dance and Romo we're
talking after the broadcast, after the game. They don't think
ten and seven gets them in, especially when they don't
have the head to heads against Buffalo. That game against
Jacksonville comes in to play that they lost early on
(21:02):
in the season. And I want to be able to
talk about this and not get you know, theories going
up that I'm still a Dallas fan. I think everyone
wants to put the focus on, like what's wrong with
Kansas City. I just came away from that game looking
at Dallas and thinking if that, if that's the level
of football. Dak's gonna play down the stretch with those
(21:22):
two wide receivers and they still can run it, and
the defense since they added Quentin Williams, it's gotten better
up front. The record would not suggest they're a threat
in the NFC, but I think they put their name
in the hat for one of the teams maybe to
beat as we go down.
Speaker 3 (21:37):
The stretch here.
Speaker 2 (21:38):
Yeah, I don't think it's the craziest thing that this
team could end up making the playoffs. I mean, I
think five and one, you're I mean, you're you're close.
I mean, where are you right now? You are ninth,
So yeah, you're still behind the Lions. You're you're still
behind you know, the two NFC West teams that are
going to probably end up making the playoffs as wild cards.
(22:01):
And then green Bay where that that's the one that
hurts you the most is that you tied that game.
If they had won that game, all of a sudden,
you're sitting at seven and five, You're within a game
of Green Bay.
Speaker 3 (22:14):
You're right there.
Speaker 2 (22:16):
I think that the way that they're playing right now,
you would think that they have a really good chance
down the stretch of the season to be able to
make the playoffs. But I just don't know if the
picture itself is going to sort itself out that way.
But as you mentioned, I mean, the way that that
offense is playing is. I mean, it's amazing right now.
Dak looks like an MVP type of player. I don't
(22:39):
know if because of the team's record, if he's gonna
necessarily be in that conversation, but I mean, the two
wide receivers are playing amazing football, and George Pickens is
going to get a huge contract based off of what
he's doing. He's already come out and said he's looking
for a big contract, and I think there will be
a lot of teams that will be in on that
con track because he looks like he's capable of being
(23:02):
a number one receiver. Javonte Williams having a really good
year running back as well, continues to be steady for them,
so their offense is producing at an incredibly high rate.
And then defensively, You're right, dude, we did not think
that Quinn Williams would mean this much for them, but
he really has, and this team is much better defensively,
(23:23):
and now, I mean, yeah, they're rounding into form. At
the same time, you do have to look at Kansas
City and say, what is what is wrong with Kansas City?
Because they're you know, these are the types of games
where Spagnolo's defenses would usually step up and find ways
to slow down even the most dynamic of offenses, and
(23:45):
it just hasn't happened this year. And now, I mean
you're looking at their schedule the remainder of the season.
Speaker 3 (23:51):
Yeah, it's it's not easy.
Speaker 2 (23:53):
I will say, would it shock me that if they
won every single game?
Speaker 3 (23:59):
It would not shock me?
Speaker 2 (24:00):
Like I think the game against the Texans very winnable.
The Chargers, I don't know what the Chargers are. They
are one of the weirdest teams to try to figure
out right now this season. The Titans, they should win
that game easily. The Broncos, that one's definitely a tough game,
but that game's at home, and then on the road
(24:21):
at the Raiders. You're telling me that that team can't
reel off five in a row. I mean, the way
they're playing right now, maybe not. But I do think
there's a scenario where they do reel off five in
a row and they do end up backing their way
into the playoffs. But I guess that's just the thinking
that it is Kansas City, and it's more based on
what they've done in recent years than what they're doing
(24:43):
this year.
Speaker 1 (24:44):
Yeah, the simple fact of what's wrong with Kansas City?
They're old, yep, they and like Chris Jones isn't the
same Chris Jones, And we all know how important he
is to to that defense.
Speaker 3 (24:57):
Like he he's.
Speaker 1 (24:58):
Kind of like how important Aaron Donald was when he
was playing defensive line for the Rams. Like when he
plays at a high level, that defense is as as
good as anyone in football. When you negate him, they're
back seveny Even though you know McDuffie's been a really
good corner this year, there's there's plays to be had,
and that's definitely what happened yesterday where they just got
feasted on. They had no they had no answer for Lamb,
(25:20):
they had no answer for Pickens, and and Dak was
after that interception. Was was playing at a at a
really high level, so they haven't been able to rush
the quarterback.
Speaker 4 (25:30):
Was that a Thanksgiving pun? By the way, saying that
they got feasted on?
Speaker 3 (25:33):
It was just great?
Speaker 4 (25:35):
That was nice though, But I did want to say
thank goodness, you know. I it's rare that I root
for the Cowboys to win, so happy they beat the Chiefs.
I really hope the Chiefs missed the playoffs. I'm tired
of seeing the dynasty.
Speaker 3 (25:47):
So you don't like watching greatness.
Speaker 4 (25:49):
Uh, I like you for uh for a short period
of time, once it's over extended.
Speaker 3 (25:54):
That's why everyone hated Tom Brady and the Patriots, So
you would have been the guy here they had more
hateable guy. Yes, but also I'm I'm a guy.
Speaker 4 (26:01):
I love the root for underdogs, no matter what sport
it is, unless you know, if they're not playing my team,
I like the root for the underdogs. That's just how
it is. So yeah, I always like when an upset happens,
and yeah, I like whenever the big dog gets defeated.
So but you know, looking at the Cowboys, you know
flynders pointing out their offense. Their offense has been good
(26:22):
all season. Yeah they yeah, I mean it. But it's
the defense that is taking a massive step that's helping
them win.
Speaker 3 (26:29):
And it has been a guy like Quinn Williams.
Speaker 4 (26:31):
I don't know how you guys could think you take
a guy like Quinn Williams and Adam to that defense
and it doesn't help significantly. He's been a massive part
of improving that defense, and I think it's it's all
on the defense to continue the way that they're playing
to determine, you know, if the Cowboys make the playoffs
and have a really good final stretch here the remainder
of the season. And you know, I listen, I'm not
(26:52):
I'm not a big fan of the Cowboys. Rather, you know,
kind of hate them for the most part, mainly because
their fans are annoying. But the NFL playoffs are or
better whenever the Cowboys are involved, especially whenever they get
smoked in the wild card round anyway. So yeah, so
I think the defense and how much they've improved in
a short period of time has been what's been real
(27:13):
surprising for the Cowboys. And you know, also now we've
the as Panthers fans, you've been able to look at
the Chiefs and have the same record as them for
pretty much the entirety of the year.
Speaker 3 (27:23):
Now you can jump to the late game from last
night too.
Speaker 4 (27:25):
If you told Panthers fans after week twelve, they'd have
the same record as the Chiefs and the Ravens, I.
Speaker 3 (27:30):
Think they take that.
Speaker 1 (27:31):
Yeah, and it's probably a sign to quit over freaking
reacting when they lose football games.
Speaker 3 (27:35):
Well, and we'll lets to fire the head coach.
Speaker 4 (27:39):
Hold On The thing is, though, is that whenever they lose,
they lose ugly like that.
Speaker 3 (27:46):
That's the problem.
Speaker 4 (27:47):
I think if if they lost competitive games to where
they looked good, the offense looked good, defense looked good,
they just came up a you know, one drive short,
I think people don't overreact as much.
Speaker 3 (27:57):
It's this whenever you lose.
Speaker 4 (27:59):
Look at the past two long to San fran and
the and the Saints. They have been ugly to where
your offense has regressed so much in week to week,
And I think that's where fans overreact. It's because how
do you go from throwing four hundred and fifty yards
to having twenty eight passing yards at halftime? Like That's
I think where the overreaction quote unquote comes in because
(28:19):
they're so vastly different.
Speaker 1 (28:21):
Yeah, the Panthers are the best example. Look, this is
a week to week league. The Panthers are a week
to week team because they are a young team and
year two of a rebuild that they're still learning, they're
still learning how to win, and they're still learning how
to handle prosperity.
Speaker 3 (28:38):
But because this fan base has.
Speaker 1 (28:39):
Been through hell since you know, twenty sixteen, twenty seventeen.
There's no room to enjoy the highs as much as
the season has given us. We focus more on the
lowst well touch really quickly on the nightcap, and then
we'll get us a panther talk. Joe Burrow comes back,
Joe Burrow has two touchdowns. Joe Borough throws the ball,
(29:01):
it was well over forty times. Joe Burrow beats Baltimore
and the Ravens and the Bengals are sitting here at
at four and eight, and you're talking about, you know,
some blown games in there where they should have beaten
the Jets, and some other games got away with them
because they had the worst defense in football.
Speaker 3 (29:19):
The Bears.
Speaker 1 (29:20):
The Bears, they are two games out of first place,
with maybe now that he's back from injury, the best
and most healthy quarterback in the division. And it's it's
it's why I don't think they panicked. I think that's
why they went and got Joe Flacco was because I
think they knew when they were gonna get Burrow back,
if they could just be in the conversation that Brown Thanksgiving,
(29:42):
this guy was going to give him a chance. And
I mean, did you see how empty that stadium was?
In the middle of the fourth quarter. Yeh, I mean
they just left the game. Even technically over hell, the
Bengals fumbled it when they were trying to put the
game away, but Baltimore fans at audios, we're leaving.
Speaker 3 (29:56):
Also. That was a tough look for Baltimore, man.
Speaker 2 (29:59):
I mean, there's still a team that has a chance
to win this division and they're fans bailing out on
the game in the middle of the fourth quarter. I mean, look,
I get it. The Ravens have not been playing great.
I they had because they had won to like five
in a row. But the thing is is that Lamar
Jackson hadn't been playing great. And I think that's what's
(30:21):
amazing was that they had found a way to win
with Lamar Jackson not playing well. I mean the last
two games, he didn't have a touchdown. Last night, I
don't believe he had a touchdown in the game. So
I mean, yeah, now you're looking at it and you're
saying if you're I don't know if you're crazy for
thinking this. I mean, I'm looking at the path for
(30:44):
the Bengals. I think this weekend really determines if they win.
I think there's a path for them to go on
a run here at the end of the season and
potentially win that division. Now, I think they'd have to
go nine to eight, and so that means they can't
lose the game the rest of the year. But it's
at the Bills, home to the Ravens, at the Dolphins,
(31:06):
Cardinals at home, and then Browns at home. I mean,
all those final three games they should they should be wins.
I would believe that with Joe Burrow in there. I
think the next two games are the ones that really
determine it. And it's not the craziest thing to think
in that division, which has just been i mean just
mediocre football the entire year, I think it's more than
(31:29):
possible that they actually end up making it to the playoffs,
which is crazy to think because three and eight on
Thanksgiving usually means you are done. And yet they are
still somehow. Two games back in the division.
Speaker 1 (31:41):
Pens were three to eight to one, and then they
won four in a row, got a home playoff game,
won a home playoff game.
Speaker 3 (31:47):
That's the fifteen to one season.
Speaker 1 (31:49):
I think what's really interesting when you look at that division,
because the division it's not bad, you just expect more
because of the high profile coaches and quarterbacks that are in.
Speaker 3 (31:58):
There, well the injuries or are why you are where
you're at.
Speaker 1 (32:02):
It does feel like this could be the year where
we get the AFC North like makeover home edition. Like
I think this is the year where maybe Pittsburgh decides
to move on from Mike Tomlin. Maybe Baltimore because you
can argue they've underachieved under Harball with Lamar Jackson. And
then I don't know what the Bengals are gonna do
with with Zach Taylor, but there's a real good shot
(32:23):
where maybe and then Stefanski, I think he's got to
be done in Cleveland. Like there's a scenario depending on
how this all plays out and what these teams do
at the end of the regular season, then once we
get into January, you could have a whole new slate
of head coaches in that division next year.
Speaker 3 (32:38):
And I don't think that's crazy talk.
Speaker 2 (32:40):
Yeah, and one of them could hire Mike Tomlins, so
it could be a guy that goes into Vision and
still stays with, you know, one of those teams. I
think that's crazy. Yeah, it's It's not the wildest thing, man, Stefanski,
I know it's pretty much, you know, he's a dead
man walking at this point there. Zach Taylor, Dak Taylor's
really interesting to me because, yes, the injuries are a
(33:03):
big part of where he's at. His defenses have just
been pathetically bad.
Speaker 3 (33:09):
Yeah, worst defense in football this year.
Speaker 2 (33:10):
Now, I think part of that is that they don't
want to pay anybody on that side of the ball,
So I think that's definitely that's definitely a factor. But
I mean, yeah, it's every year they're putting up one
of the worst defensive defenses in the entire league, and
that's why they can't get back to where they were
when they made the Super Bowl is because of that defense.
Speaker 3 (33:33):
And then yeah, I mean the Ravens.
Speaker 2 (33:35):
Yeah, I wouldn't be shocked if they end up moving
on from John Harbaugh. I think there could be people
that get frustrated enough. I mean that display last night
that shows you that there is clearly a lot of frustration.
So I mean, yeah, it could be a complete makeover because, yeah,
Mike Tomlin, we know Pittsburgh fans have wanted him out
for a long time. And if they fail to make
the playoffs again this year, which I think is more
(33:57):
than possible, then.
Speaker 1 (33:59):
That could give you the Jonathan from Gastonia writes, and
you know we were gonna get this one.
Speaker 3 (34:03):
Can we hire Mike Tomlin? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (34:04):
I mean, look, I don't think Dave Canalis is in
any danger of losing his job. With that being said,
you never know with the way this league operates, and
you never know when your owner might show up and
do the things he's done in the past, which is
stick his nose in football decisions. The interesting thing with
Taylor in Kansas City is your four years have moved
away from the Super Bowl, three years were moved away
(34:26):
from your last appearance in the AFC Championship Game. How
much leeway do you get because of all the injuries
Taylor in Cincinnati. You said Kansas City. I said Cincinnati.
Most definitely said Cincinnati. It's gonna be interesting to see
what does that buy him time or do they decide
to move on because you've got went healthy. I think
(34:46):
a top five quarterback in the National Football League seven
oh four and five ninety six to ten. We want
to hear from you on the fans, will text line
when we come back, will turn our attention to the
Carolina Panthers. We may have been off yesterday, but the
team was not. We'll go for some news and notes
ahead of this week's game against the Rams. You're listening
to Sports Radio ninety two seven wfn Z. All right,
(35:17):
two things we have to address. Welcome back to the
young guns. You're listening to Sports Radio ninety two seven
wfn Z. I may or may not have said Kansas
City when I was talking about Zach Taylor.
Speaker 3 (35:29):
Oh what to? What changed your mind? You know, we've
we've done this a couple of times. Goff is legit ude, dude.
Speaker 1 (35:35):
The scoff is probably like Kevin's Chile from the office.
It's probably the thing I do best because Mac never
knows if I'm literally scoffing or hitting my scoff sound effects.
Speaker 3 (35:46):
Oh yeah, it's consistent. Yeah, it's consistent.
Speaker 1 (35:48):
But Flounder just loves to do this thing where he
just likes to call off people's mistakes.
Speaker 3 (35:52):
I'm not that kind of guy. I was gonna let
it go, but I knew people would get on that.
Did you really just say you're not that kind of guy? Dude? Okay,
look at the guys I work with that mess up.
Speaker 1 (36:02):
Mac usually messes up the first sentence he talks in
the morning, and I just sit there and just let
it happen.
Speaker 3 (36:07):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (36:08):
So I'm not one to call to attention when other
people mess up unless they're Willie p oh my, my
the Robin to my Batman, my best friend of fifteen.
Speaker 2 (36:20):
So you think you're Batman? Oh, I definitely have Batman energy. Okay.
I was about to ask you a real dark question,
but I wasn't going to ask you that. But the
second I mess up, now I'm interested in it. Is
this one that's getting us kicked off the air.
Speaker 1 (36:37):
No, I was just gonna ask you. Were you leaving
a play and your parents got shot? Like, I mean,
that's Batman energy.
Speaker 3 (36:42):
Gosh, that's good.
Speaker 2 (36:43):
You said you have Batman energy. I got the questions.
You don't have Batman energy either. Both of your parents
are still living, yes, but they were divorced and that's
Oh that took a real toll on you.
Speaker 3 (36:56):
Yeah. Oh, okay, I am the.
Speaker 1 (36:58):
Way that I am because mom and daddy, when I
was three years old, wanting to play with my woody doll,
did not want to quit arguing.
Speaker 3 (37:07):
All right, let's move on. Yeah, let's all right. Make
a joke. That's what Jordan Hudson plays with Friday. What else?
What else were you gonna You said you had two things.
First thing was that.
Speaker 1 (37:17):
Shrop comes out and grabs the remote and he's like,
what channels ESP and you on? And we figured out pressure.
I figure out what channel it is, and I asked
him on what are you putting on the television?
Speaker 3 (37:29):
Don't you worry about it?
Speaker 1 (37:31):
And I look up and we are watching Formula one
practice practice.
Speaker 4 (37:39):
Ye.
Speaker 2 (37:40):
The fact that it's on espn U, I think tells
you everything that you need to.
Speaker 4 (37:43):
Now.
Speaker 1 (37:43):
Look, man, qualifying, I'm dude, when it's the summertime and
they were at bleeped to watch, I'll watch, I'll watch
them NASCAR qualifying. Yeah, but Formula one qualifying, dude, truck
Wait is it even qualifying or is it just practice?
Speaker 4 (37:56):
This is practice? Is practice one? They have three practice
sessions and they do the qualifying and then oh my gosh. Yeah,
so we're watching practice right now. They're in Qatar. Uh,
you know this year the season's coming to a close, gentlemen,
and Max for staff and he's on a hell of
a run, shocking both both the McLaren drivers. McLaren already
won the Constructors Championship, but their two drivers are running
(38:19):
away with the driver's standings as well. But McLaren's been
choking and Max for staff but is now tied for
second and he has it has a chance to uh
to make one of the biggest comebacks in Formula One
Championship history to become the champion.
Speaker 3 (38:34):
So is it over? Also decisions shruped. Look, you've got
to So what else is on? At eight forty in
the morning.
Speaker 1 (38:40):
I gave you a ten forty five segment because I
figured by then i'd be ready to go to the
bathroom for you to talk hockey.
Speaker 3 (38:46):
For a minut Yeah, I may have.
Speaker 1 (38:48):
To revoke that because now we're sitting here talking Formula
one practice. I did not wake up at six o'clock
in the morning willingly to come in here and talk
about Formula one.
Speaker 3 (38:59):
Be better the other one that brought it up. Gosh,
we're talking. Can we talk pants?
Speaker 4 (39:02):
You're not even fasing the TV. You don't even see it.
It's but I know that it's there. Just this presence
is just weighing on you, I understand. So, yeah, we
were off yesterday. The rest of the football world was not.
Obviously had three games.
Speaker 1 (39:15):
But the Panthers were back at practice getting ready for
Sunday's game against the Rams, which everyone is pretty much
conceded is going to be a loss, which means coming
out of Sunday, the Panthers will be six seven and
going into the bye week. But some news and notes
since we were last on the air. You know, Trevon
Merrick suspension was upheld, so you know, he did appeal
(39:36):
as it should be to be honest with he did
appeal it, but it was upheld. So the Panthers will
be with out there starting safety on Sunday. Trevin Wallace
back at practice for a second straight day, full participant,
but still no Christian Rose, Boom, Cade Mays, J C. Horn,
Chandler Savalla. We're called in cher lest they all missed practice.
(39:57):
Today is going to be a big day to figure
out kind of where those guys stand going into Sunday.
And I think that's probably the double down effect why
everyone's so down going into this game. It's yes, your
offense looked like ass on Monday night football. You know,
Bryce showing was not good. Dave Canalis did not want
(40:18):
to run the football, God knows why. But then you
just add the injuries and then not having merrig It
finds it. It does open the door for this to
be blowout brigade for the Rams when they visit Charlotte
on Sunday afternoon.
Speaker 3 (40:32):
Yeah, I mean it's possible.
Speaker 2 (40:33):
I think the thing that you would hang your hat
on if you're the Panthers is that whenever they have
suffered a tough loss, they have been able to bounce
back from it. But you are dealing with so many
injuries that I just don't know if you're going to
be able to navigate it. I mean, you're going to
be without your two best secondary players more than likely.
I don't see any way that j. C. Horn is
going to clear concussion protocol, especially with the symptoms that
(40:57):
he had on the sideline, that seems like that's pretty
seat that's probably gonna take some time. So without him
on the field, you know you're not gonna have Corey Thornton.
We already know that he's out. Yeah, So I mean, yeah,
it's Mike, It's Mike Jackson, and I guess it's gonna
be Shaw Smith Wade and Lathan Ransom that's probably gonna
(41:19):
be playing on the outside. Leathan Ransom could potentially play
in the nickel. I mean, we've heard some names that
we really were hoping we would never have to hear
again during this season, and guys like a Caleb Evans
and stuff like that. Those are names that you're hoping
that you wouldn't have to hear. But I mean, yeah,
that's the scariest part is this secondary is going to
(41:40):
be so beat up going up against a Rams wide
receiver group that is as good as just about any
in the league, and you've got a quarterback that's spinning
it as well as anybody that that's gonna be a
really tough matchup for the Panthers in this one, no doubt.
Speaker 4 (41:55):
Well, yeah, that's the biggest thing is that, you know,
contrary to last year, you've had a defense this season
that's kept you in games throughout the entire season.
Speaker 3 (42:02):
You know, they did it last week against the forty
nine ers.
Speaker 4 (42:04):
They gave the offense a chance to go out and
win that game and it just didn't just didn't happen.
So going into this game against the Rams, when you
need your defense to be the healthiest and at its
best is going to be the entire year, you're down
significant pieces. This was already going to be a probably
one of the toughest, if not the toughest games on
(42:25):
the schedule, And now you're sitting here with a very
very depleted defense and a lot is going to be
riding the shoulders of the offense to be able to
play keep up ball, and I just don't know if
they have the firepower to really get that going, especially
against a Rams defense.
Speaker 3 (42:41):
It's really good as well.
Speaker 1 (42:42):
Yeah, we'll put together are our paths to victory a
little bit later on in the show.
Speaker 3 (42:47):
But I mean, I think this is a game.
Speaker 1 (42:50):
If Carolina covers, I think I think Panther fans would
be really really impressed. And I guess satisfied. That's the
line ten those ten points there's not and this is
there's no way there.
Speaker 3 (43:03):
This is the downside. Like I think this team just
needs a bye week.
Speaker 2 (43:06):
Man, Yeah, I think they need to said that last smoke,
said that last week.
Speaker 3 (43:11):
That was a big part of the reason why they're
so banged up.
Speaker 4 (43:13):
Yeah, like they really needed the bye week this week.
Like if you could, you know, having a week what
fourteen bye.
Speaker 3 (43:19):
Week Lakers as as you can get.
Speaker 4 (43:21):
Yeah, that's tough. This team could really obviously with all
the injuries. It's obvious to say it, but they could
really use it this week, plus the extra preparation for
the Rams and coming off a primetime game on Monday night,
this would have been the perfect week to have a
bye week, but just the NFL gods did not shine
brightly upon the Panthers. When when you know giving out
the bye weeks.
Speaker 3 (43:42):
Here Fangel text line is open.
Speaker 1 (43:44):
Panther Boat writes in a six seven jokes, someone get
a mike, My god, is this gonna be the week
that six seven dies in the Charlotte area if the
Panthers lose, because it's.
Speaker 3 (43:54):
Already Foliants are doing a six to seven night.
Speaker 1 (43:57):
I heard that, Yeah, when when Mac and Bone had
I forget what the guy's name was up from the Hornets,
but they're having a six to seven night. I just
feel like, if this team loses and we have to
say six seven for it and it'll be two weeks
because IPEC they's have a bye week, I think this
will be the end that you know of six seven
and it's had a good run.
Speaker 2 (44:18):
Man.
Speaker 1 (44:18):
I don't think for to one ever caught on the
way that the kids were hoping it would. I was
really here for it because how much an annoyed bone.
But I feel like shrup, you're the youngest of the
of the group here. Yeah, I feel like six seven
and it's on his last leg.
Speaker 2 (44:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (44:31):
You know, whenever we were growing up, memes used to
last couple of months, maybe a month fully, and now
it's kind of like the uh, you know, the way
the internet churns things out. It's it's surprising that six
heaven those lasted as long as it has. But it
does feel like it's starting to be on that decline
to where once you get the the older folk and
(44:52):
like really young kids start doing it, that's whatever becomes uncool.
So I feel like we have reached that plateau and
things are now going downhill for the old legendary six.
Speaker 1 (45:01):
Uh Flounder, Have you made a six seven reference at
all to your dad?
Speaker 2 (45:05):
No? No, no, he would have absolutely no clue what
it meant. He would also think that again, like I did,
the hand motions were meant something dirty, probably.
Speaker 1 (45:14):
Just because you know the members of the Floundino crime family,
they've got a knotty mind. Your sister's home for Thanksgiving.
She's a teacher or a teacher assistant.
Speaker 2 (45:24):
Oh, very familiar with very very very very familiar the kids.
Speaker 3 (45:29):
I asked her this question last night.
Speaker 2 (45:30):
The kids very into the six seven, which again she
teaches first graders.
Speaker 3 (45:36):
That means that it's fading out. Yep, yep.
Speaker 2 (45:39):
Und Also, it's here's the other way that you know
that it's fading out. It's made its way to the
sport of hockey. That's when you know that you're you're
really starting to fade out. When they're having six seven
nights at hockey games. That that tells you, yeah, it's
on it's on its last leg.
Speaker 1 (45:55):
Oh, I got a well, I question is if we
can be this open and accepting of sick seven, what's
standing in the way of six nine night?
Speaker 4 (46:03):
All right, let's go why let's go to break? Just
why not just go to break? I thought I'd get
something out of you drop. Nope, I thought I thought
that would at least get a chuckle. No, because there
was so clear and obvious where you're going, And there's
a clear and obvious reason as to why that's not
accepted as a as.
Speaker 2 (46:22):
A shameful way to end a good first hour of
the show. It was a fun first hour. It was
a fast moving first hour. Good news for you. We
got three more hours to go. Here on Sports Radio
ninety two seven wfn Z. We come back. We'll talk
