School District of La Crosse superintendent, Dr. Aaron Engel, joins to discuss financial aid, State Road Elementary additions and the dilemma of retaining and growing the student body amid declining enrollment, a trend driven by falling birthrates.

Before getting to any of that, however, we spoke about the fight over National Guard troops being sent to Portland and Chicago. Engel is a Lieutenant Colonel in the National Guard, as well as the Deputy Commander of the Army Schoolhouse at Fort McCoy.

After that, we recapped Universities of Wisconsin President Jay Rothman visiting Central High School last week and what the district does to help students get financial aid.

We then got into the dilemma of trying to increase the student body, amid declining enrollment due to declining birthrates.

Lastly, we talked about the groundbreaking coming up for State Road Elementary, which was part of last fall's $53.5 million referendum. The school will be updated with nine new classrooms and a new gymnasium, while the Hogan Administrative site will be torn down soon with a farewell tour from 6-7 p.m. Oct. 15.

CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist

CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist

It’s 1996 in rural North Carolina, and an oddball crew makes history when they pull off America’s third largest cash heist. But it’s all downhill from there. Join host Johnny Knoxville as he unspools a wild and woolly tale about a group of regular ‘ol folks who risked it all for a chance at a better life. CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist answers the question: what would you do with 17.3 million dollars? The answer includes diamond rings, mansions, velvet Elvis paintings, plus a run for the border, murder-for-hire-plots, and FBI busts.
